- 0:01SPEAKER_00: Romans six dead to sin but alive in Christ.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: So do you think we should continue sinning so that God will give us more and more grace?
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Of course not.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Our old sinful life ended.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: It's dead.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: So how can we continue living in sin?
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Did you forget that all of us became part of Christ Jesus when we were baptized?
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: In our baptism we shared in his death.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: So we were baptized, we were buried with Christ and took part in his death.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: And just as Christ was raised from death by the wonderful power of the Father, so we can now live a new life.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Christ died and we have been joined with him by dying too.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: So we will also be joined with him by rising from the death as he did.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: We know that our old life was put to death on the cross with Christ.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: This happened so that our sinful selves would have no power over us, then we would not be slaves to sin.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: Anyone who has died is made free from sin's control.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: If we died with Christ, we know that we will also live with him.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Christ was raised from death, and we know that he cannot die again.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Death has no power over him now.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Yes, when Christ died, he died to defeat the power of sin one time enough for all time.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: He now has a new life, and his new life is with God.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: In the same way you should see yourselves as being dead to the power of sin and alive for God through Jesus Christ.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: But don't let sin control your life here on earth.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: You must not be ruled by the things your sinful self makes you want to do.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Don't offer the parts of your body to serve sin.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Don't use your bodies to do evil, but offer yourselves up to God as people who have died and now live.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: Offer the parts of your body to God to be used for doing good.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: Sin will not be your master because you are not under law.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: You now live under God's grace.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: Slaves of goodness.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: So what should we do?
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: Should we sin because we are under grace and not under law?
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Certainly not.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Surely you know that you have become the slaves of whatever you give yourselves to.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: Anything or anyone you follow will be your master.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: You can follow sin or you can obey God.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: Following sin brings spiritual death, but obeying God makes you right with him.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: In the past you were slaves to sin, sin controlled you, but thank God you fully obeyed what you were taught.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: You are made free from sin and now you are slaves to what is right.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: I use this example from everyday life because you will need help in understanding spiritual truths.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: In the past you offered the parts of your body to be slaves to your immoral and sinful thoughts.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: The result was that you lived only for sin.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: In the same way, you must now offer yourselves to be slaves to what is right.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: Then you will live only for God.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: In the past you were slaves to sin and you did not even think about doing right.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: You did evil things, and now you are ashamed of what you did.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: Did those things help you?
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: No, they only brought death, but now you are free from sin, you have become slaves of God, and the result that you live only for God.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: This will bring you eternal life.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: When people sin, they earn what sin pays death, but God gives his people a free gift, eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
