TIFF kicks off its 51st year with a powerful biopic, Being Heumann, starring Ruth Madeley as disability rights icon Judy Heumann — and it’s the first film from director Siân Heder to open the fest, making her the fourth woman ever to do so. Also premiering: Cynthia Erivo’s gripping Prima Facie and the tense political thriller Assassin(s). The festival runs Sept 10–20, with the full lineup dropping Aug 11.
