- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Dutch with Fexingo. Luna: Hey Lucas, good to be here. I'm ready for something new. Lucas: Perfect. Today we're keeping it super simple. We're going to count. Luna: Oh, counting. That sounds... foundational. Lucas: Exactly. And we'll start with just the first five numbers. Nice and small. Luna: I like small. Let's do it. Lucas: Great. So, number one. In Dutch, that's 'een'. Luna: 'Een'. Lucas: Yeah. It sounds like the English 'a' or 'an', but it means 'one'. 'Een'. Luna: 'Een'. Got it. Lucas: Number two is 'twee'. Luna: 'Twee'. Like... 'twee'? Lucas: Right. 'Twee'. It rhymes with 'way', but with a 't' sound at the start. 'Twee'. Luna: 'Twee'. Okay. Lucas: Number three is 'drie'. Luna: 'Drie'. That one sounds familiar. Lucas: It does, right? 'Drie'. Like 'three' but with a 'd'. 'Drie'. Luna: 'Drie'. I think I can manage that. Lucas: Number four is 'vier'. Luna: 'Vier'. Vee-er? Lucas: Close. It's one syllable. 'Vier'. The 'v' is soft, almost like an 'f'. 'Vier'. Luna: 'Vier'. Oh, that's tricky. Lucas: You'll get it. And number five is 'vijf'. Luna: 'Vijf'. That looks wild. Lucas: It does. It's pronounced 'vijf'. The 'ij' makes an 'eye' sound. 'Vijf'. Luna: 'Vijf'. Wow. Okay. Lucas: Let's run through them slowly. 'Een'. Luna: 'Een'. Lucas: 'Twee'. Luna: 'Twee'. Lucas: 'Drie'. Luna: 'Drie'. Lucas: 'Vier'. Luna: 'Vier'. Lucas: 'Vijf'. Luna: 'Vijf'. Lucas: Good. Now a little faster. 'Een, twee, drie, vier, vijf'. Luna: 'Een, twee, drie, vier, vijf'. Oh, that feels good. Lucas: It does. Let's use them. Imagine we're at a bakery, like in episode three. Luna: Oh, I remember that. Goedemorgen and all that. Lucas: Exactly. So, you see some pastries. You point and count them. 'Een appelgebak'. Luna: 'Een appelgebak'. One apple pastry. Lucas: Right. 'Twee chocoladebroodjes'. Luna: 'Twee chocoladebroodjes'. Two chocolate rolls. Lucas: 'Drie croissantjes'. Luna: 'Drie croissantjes'. Three little croissants. Lucas: 'Vier koekjes'. Luna: 'Vier koekjes'. Four cookies. Lucas: And 'vijf donuts'. Luna: 'Vijf donuts'. That's a lot of sugar. Lucas: For sure. But good for counting. Your turn. Count with me. 'Een'. Luna: 'Een'. Lucas: 'Twee'. Luna: 'Twee'. Lucas: 'Drie'. Luna: 'Drie'. Lucas: 'Vier'. Luna: 'Vier'. Lucas: 'Vijf'. Luna: 'Vijf'. There we go. Lucas: Nice. Another tiny scene. You're meeting people, like in episode eight on the bus. Luna: Right. Hallo, mijn naam is Luna, aangenaam. Lucas: Perfect. So you see a group. 'Ik zie een persoon'. Luna: 'Ik zie een persoon'. I see one person. Lucas: 'Ik zie twee personen'. Luna: 'Ik zie twee personen'. Lucas: 'Ik zie drie personen'. Luna: 'Ik zie drie personen'. Lucas: 'Ik zie vier personen'. Luna: 'Ik zie vier personen'. Lucas: 'Ik zie vijf personen'. Luna: 'Ik zie vijf personen'. That's a full bus. Lucas: Totally. Let's do a quick recap. I'll say the number in English, you say it in Dutch. Ready? Luna: Ready. Lucas: One. Luna: 'Een'. Lucas: Two. Luna: 'Twee'. Lucas: Three. Luna: 'Drie'. Lucas: Four. Luna: 'Vier'. Lucas: Five. Luna: 'Vijf'. Lucas: Excellent. Now count from one to five in Dutch. Luna: 'Een, twee, drie, vier, vijf'. Lucas: Ahh, yes! Nailed it. You did it. Luna: Oh that's so good. I love that. Lucas: Me too. So, today we learned 'een, twee, drie, vier, vijf'. Numbers one through five. Luna: Right. Simple but super useful. Lucas: Absolutely. Practice these, count things around you—chairs, cups, whatever. Luna: I will. Thanks Lucas. Lucas: Of course. And thank you for learning with us here at Fexingo. We'll see you next time for more Dutch. Luna: Tot ziens! Lucas: Tot ziens!
