- 1:42on Friday night. Thankfully no one injured, but a family lost their home.
- 1:48And there's a bigger story here as it pertains to the lack of working
- 1:52fire hydrants in the area. And Jeff Jenkins has been following that story closely.

- 3:00Monday. We bring a different mayor from somewhere in the region on the
- 3:02show to tell us, just to update us someone what's going on there town.
- 3:06In this case, it's a village. It's it's Chris Tatum from the
- 3:09village of Barbara's Ville. Chris, good morning, how are you? Mayor?
- 3:13Dave? Good morning, sir, how are you? I am fine.
- 3:15I may have asked you this question before when you were on, because
- 3:17I this is I think the second time you've done the same way. How
- 3:21exactly is it the barber Barbarasville is a village and not a town or a
- 3:23city. You know, I'm not sure. I think it's just the charm.
- 3:27I guess I think population wise, we actually meet the definition of being
- 3:30a city. But I think I think people just like the like the name.
- 3:35It's a small town feel, you know, there's a but there's a
- 3:38lot going on here, which we're very fortunate for. There's you know,
- 3:42I think it's just the charm. Honestly, and when we're gonna get into
- 3:45some of those things that are going on there. I want to talk for
- 3:47a moment about this thing about home rule. Now we hear this term.
- 3:52I guess it first developed, you know, nice five or ten years.
- 3:54So a lot of cities around to say doing this term or doing this thing
- 3:59called home rule. Um, exactly what is home rule? Explain it?
- 4:03And why has it seemingly been such a success for a lot of towns or
- 4:08villages in your case, including Barbersville. Well, home rule allows allows cities
- 4:13to collect a one percent sales tax that goes directly directly to their to their
- 4:16citytown, village, and uh for for us, you know, we why
- 4:20it's been so successful for us is because we are a retail hub and the
- 4:25sales the sales tax puts additional revenues into our pocket, but it also contributes
- 4:30to quality of life. So that one percent sales tax or all the area
- 4:34that we we encapsule barbarsols, city limits and capsules. Also also tasting situation,
- 4:40the mall, Tannard Station, Target Center, Merri Creek Farm, our
- 4:44shopping venues, and our our city populations around for four thousand people, five
- 4:49thousand people. So if we relied on those four or five thousand people to
- 4:54you know, take care of our paying our bills, so to speak.
- 4:57Then we would have we would have v structure that we don't current we have.
- 5:00So it was long we long relied upon business occupation tax and that was
- 5:06what the legislature said, here's how you collect your revenue. And then you
- 5:10know, those the malls are malls are I would not say a thing of
- 5:14the past for us, because our mall continues to flourish. But you know,
- 5:16the retail, the retail and restaurant industries changed over the years, and
- 5:23your revenues based just solely off of BINGO taxes. As we've not raised our
- 5:27bingo tax, so that kind of leveled out. Will the expenses for all
- 5:31of our employees, refuse, pick up, first response and all the things
- 5:34that cities take care for their residents continue the incline while our BINGO tax is
- 5:39kind of leveled out. So we're looking for a creative way to do collect
- 5:43additional revenue streams. And this model was used elsewhere around the country, and
- 5:46I think that it was something that we all kind of latched onto and sorry,
- 5:49we want to leave things better than we found it. This is a
- 5:51way to do that and sustainable. And you know, this is not a
- 5:55this is not a tax on businesses. It's and it's a minute tax on
- 6:00on residents a penny per dollars. So and I'm happy to pay it myself
- 6:02to continue the things that we're able to do for our residents. We don't
- 6:05have user fees. We do not have a stormwater fee, we don't have
- 6:09a refuse to fee. There's not a recycling fee, um. And there's
- 6:12not a municipal fee either. Um. So we try to stay in the
- 6:16pockets of our residents as much as we can. And you add all those
- 6:19things up, I would I would venture to say that for the people living
- 6:21here, it's it's far less on the on the penny tax and what's what
- 6:26we call home rule, and it would be to add that those five fee
- 6:29structures that most other cities have. Yeah, we're talking with the mayor Chris
- 6:33Tatum of Barbarsville here on five eighty live, you know, and I'll say
- 6:38this about them all that we'll move on to something else. Anybody that thinks
- 6:40that malls are a thing of the past. I was at the honey Ta
- 6:44Mall. A couple of weeks ago. Uh, it was like I guess
- 6:47two weeks ago or we could go Saturday. Man, it was thriving,
- 6:49it was bumping just like now. You know, was it what it was
- 6:53in you know, nineteen eighty nine? Possibly not. But if the malls
- 6:59are dying, I wouldn't know it by looking at the Huntington Mall. I'll
- 7:00say that. Yeah, I would agree with that. And we were closely
- 7:03with the Cafaro company, who who owns that property. And there's actually some
- 7:08announcements coming in the very near future which do nondisclosure agreements. I can't say
- 7:12a whole lot, but it will. It will change the face of that
- 7:15of that property. There are a couple announcements will change the face of that
- 7:17property. And not like you said, it's not nineteen eighty nine when you
- 7:21and I were hanging out at the mall, around the phone bank, or
- 7:25at the movies or whatnot. But they are busy. But this will whistle
- 7:28redefine the face of that mall again. They've they've been so good at doing
- 7:31that, and this will redefine the face of that mall again. And it
- 7:34will it already is a destination. This will make it more of a destination
- 7:39than it is now. Any live is presented in part by Meeks Realty Group.
- 7:42Area's most beautiful properties deserve the finest Realtoris Meeks Realty Group visit of mindline
- 7:46Meeks dot us are called three or four or four four zero one one zero
- 7:49one. Mari Tatum, I was actually in your town Friday. Not the
- 7:53happiest occasions. I had to attend a funeral when I was in a town.
- 7:57But I noticed some signs that were up saying keep Barbarasville a village.
- 8:01Now, I know you have an election coming up, and when you're up
- 8:03for reelection, you hear all kinds of things and see all kinds of sides
- 8:05and things of that nature. But what exactly is meant by that to keep
- 8:09it a village? I mean, well, I'm not I'm actually really not
- 8:13sure because that's not that's not my campaign slogan that I'm using. And I'll
- 8:18tell you this, um, we we're building community skyscrapers. You know,
- 8:22the fact that the matter is is that thirty years ago, twenty years ago,
- 8:26even our storefronts and even even as little as twelve years ago, our
- 8:30storefronts in our downtown area were empty we have local people investing local money for
- 8:35quality of life things in the village. I mean every business is opened in
- 8:39the in what we call our downtown proper and most people say with the malls
- 8:43downtown and in bart Mineau when the mall is not downtown on the I was
- 8:46I was downtown Friday. That's that's an actual downtown area. Yeah, so
- 8:50you've got we've got walking traveling now and all those businesses that are on those
- 8:52and those storefronts and the ones that are opening up now are local people investing
- 8:56local money for quality of life for our residents. So, like I said,
- 9:00we're not building skyscrapers, we're building community and we're given you know,
- 9:03they're walking traffic downtown. And this is not anything that's any different than what
- 9:07Barbarisil realized. You know, fifty years ago you had Brady Hardware, there's
- 9:11an appliance store. I mean, you had the the same what you would
- 9:13call Americana downtown that everyone that everyone kind of gravitated towards. Then we're just
- 9:18we're rebuilding that and we're when we have people that want to be a part
- 9:22of that, we want to do that. So you know, I don't
- 9:24I don't think there anybody has a desire to go away from from the being
- 9:28the village um and that's not my desire. You know, like I said,
- 9:33we're we're building community and not skyscrapers. So these quality of life places
- 9:37that are moving in and you know, we're not building dive bars and hunting.
- 9:41You know, these these people are not investing in dive bars. These
- 9:43these are nice places to go, sit, have a meal with your family,
- 9:46sit, have a drink with your friends, um and and the downtown
- 9:50areas become reinvigorated. So I don't I don't know the answer that question.
- 9:54I can just say this, Barbara Zil has always been Barbarisila will always be
- 9:56Barbara Zila, and our sense of community is I would say. Matched talking
- 10:01to Christatum again, the mayor of Barbarsville here on mayor Monday, it's nine
- 10:03seventeen. I want to talk for a moment Mayor about business and recreational development
- 10:07in town, but specifically I want to get to the business of travel sports.
- 10:13You're a town is one, if any that's reaped the benefits of travel
- 10:16sports. We talk about this all the time. You know, I don't
- 10:20have kids, but I know my friends that did well at my age.
- 10:22Now they all have grandkids, you know, they're grandparents now. But the
- 10:26huge business that is travel sports, and I know Barbersville has really been reap
- 10:31into benefits of this and it's only going to get bigger. Well, and
- 10:35you know, we've been doing this for a while since before I was a
- 10:37mayor. The USU Soccer organization became interested in the property that we had and
- 10:43because of the ability to host a tournament in a single location. And now
- 10:46they've grown and as you know, we we wek co op I guess or
- 10:52or work with Shawnee when those tournaments come to town because they've grown so big.
- 10:56But youth sports tourism is a multi billion dollar industry and we've started capturing
- 11:01at as it kind of hit hit the upswing, you know with USU Soccer,
- 11:05and we knew that to continue those tourism dollars rolling in, we needed
- 11:09to not keep up with the joneses, if you will, but to keep
- 11:13you know, to keep up with the times and have facilities that kept these
- 11:16teams and tournaments and organizations wanting to come back here. And we and we've
- 11:20done that. We've invested four million dollars in a in a multi use sports
- 11:24complex that has synthetic turf, concession stands, restrooms, press box. I
- 11:31mean, everything that you would need to host a large scale tournament is right
- 11:33there in barsl Park. And that seven almost eight hundred acres of ground that
- 11:37we've taken a small portion of and dedicated specifically to use sports tourism. And
- 11:41that also gives our little league football a home. It gives our little league
- 11:46use of baseball and softball places to practice. And you know, we understand
- 11:50what type of remedy you glean from that you get twenty you know, the
- 11:54big tournament that comes between here and the Kanal Valley puts twenty two million dollars
- 11:58in the local economy, and we want our fair share of that. And
- 12:01we having in our fair share of that when we realize how important it is
- 12:03for our revenue to keep doing the things that we do for our residence and
- 12:07that's what helps us pay our bills. So that if that be the diet's
- 12:11cast that keeps us churning and keeps people coming to town and keeps people in
- 12:15our restaurants, hotels and surrounding businesses, then we want to get a part
- 12:18of that. And you know it always um, I always have laugh laugh
- 12:22a little bit when they talk about these sports storism things. I know we
- 12:24have one that's on the table here in Charles. There's a lot of questions
- 12:26to be answered about the sports facility in Charleston, and I get that.
- 12:31But people say, well, why exactly do we need this or why do
- 12:33we need to have more hotels? This is why you're talking about twenty two
- 12:37million dollars in the local economy. That comes in when you have just just
- 12:41pick any of these tournaments, may or just any of them off the top
- 12:45of your head. How many people are we talking That comes in for well,
- 12:48for one of these soccer tournaments, for example, I mean the for
- 12:50the USU soccer tournament. I mean you're talking about eight ten thousand kids and
- 12:54their families between here and Charleston. I mean, that's a big deal.
- 12:58And the larger ones have more more people than that. I mean, and
- 13:01that's I think that's coles come numbers. But anyway, long story short,
- 13:03you're putting thousands of people in your area, thousands of people that are going
- 13:07to spend money in your restaurants. They're going to spend money in your in
- 13:11your malls and in your retail outlet. Then you know where the in your
- 13:13hotels. So yeah, I means visitors are super important. I mean we
- 13:18like to roll out the red carpet when when those tournaments come to town.
- 13:22And when I say that, I mean everything from the people at Rotary,
- 13:24Lions Clubs and everyone else who volunteers to park cars, who volunteers are running
- 13:28water for officials and all that. We want them to come back and keep
- 13:31spending their money here because we liked we like to show our town off.
- 13:35We also liked it. We also like to have a very nice town in
- 13:39a very safe town, and that's one of the things that we pride ourselves
- 13:41on. So absolutely we're gonna keep We're gonna keep trying to attract those people.
- 13:46Mayor, it's always pleasure to talk to you. Keep the village churning
- 13:50there in the in Cabol County. May Or Christatum Barbar's will I appreciate you

- 18:12How are you, sir? Thank you for being on the show. I'm
- 18:15doing well. And you've been on the show before, so welcome back.
- 18:18And I know that since last time we had you on, Congressman Alex Mooney
- 18:22and Governor Jim Justice have made a deficial that they are in the race,
- 18:26but it seems that no one's talking about Chris Rose. And but do you
- 18:30want to let what people know that you are in this thing? Man?
- 18:33Yeah, absolutely so. As a first time you candidate and the political outsider,
- 18:37you do have that lack of name recognition that you do have to overcome.
- 18:40And when people do learn about us, we actually do quite well with
- 18:42them. You know, a lot of people like the fact that I'm a
- 18:45fourth generation West Virginia coal minor, political outsider, not a career politician.
- 18:48I didn't flit political parties for self political gain, nor did I move three
- 18:52to four states away shopping for a higher office. And you know, the
- 18:56lifelong West Virginia and the blue car are conservative really resonates with those that know.
- 19:00But you're is absolutely right. We have a huge lack of name recognition
- 19:03that we're trying to overcome. And actually you're on the news organization's pole that
- 19:07was actually pointing out to me. In the pockets where we're known, we
- 19:10do quite well. We're actually winning one of your polls right now. It
- 19:11was fifty one the vote and almost thirteen hundred people are in that. Hopefully
- 19:15it's a thing as signs that come statewide. But we know, like I
- 19:18said, the pockets that we're known, we're doing very well, and that's
- 19:21why we started so early to get our name out there. You know,
- 19:23I was listening to a talk line last week with Dave Wilson. He's in
- 19:26for Hoppy last week and also this week as well. Hoppy's on vacation,
- 19:30and I think it was maybe Thursday, maybe it was, I'm not really
- 19:33sure, but I was traveling I was listening to it. He was doing
- 19:36a bit of an informal survey asking people who they were supporting for that Senate
- 19:41race Governor Justice, Congressman Mooney on one side, or Senator Joe Manchon if
- 19:45he runs on the other side. There was a lot of people that said
- 19:48that called up. Now, it could have been orchestrated. Maybe it wasn't,
- 19:51I don't know, but there were a lot of people that called or
- 19:52texted on Dave's show or on Hoppy show that Dave was hosting last week,
- 19:57getting your name out there, and I appreciate that, and then they definitely
- 20:02wasn't orgestrated on my end. But I just think there's a lot of conservatives
- 20:04that you know, they're not happy with the two mainstream named choices they have,
- 20:08and you know, once they learn about us, they're pretty committed to
- 20:11helping get in selected. And I appreciate their enthusiasm, passion, and support,
- 20:15and we need to continue to get that out there because it'll be honest
- 20:18with you, there is baggage of both of the two considered front runners,
- 20:22and you could argue that either one of them early fit for Washington. They
- 20:25both have conflict of interest. Jim Justice was over three hundred and thirty million,
- 20:29and unsettled debts and lawsuits are impending and piling up on him daily and
- 20:33you know, we all know that. And while he just did a tax
- 20:34cut, before he was four tax cuts, he was for the largest tax
- 20:37increase. We also know he shut down our state and there's a lot of
- 20:40other controversial stuff about him. And then you look at Alex Mooney, who
- 20:42is under two investigations of campaign finance fraud. He took FCX contributions from Ukraine.
- 20:48And when people learn these things about the two the right was there another
- 20:51conservative in the race? And that's the key thing. We have to let
- 20:52people know that there is a lifelong West Virginian and conservative in this race does
- 20:57not have the baggage of the other two. Give us some of your background.
- 21:00I mean, you mentioned that you're a coal miner. Give us your
- 21:03your hometown and why you decided to get into this. But but give us
- 21:06the quick BUYO one Chris Rose. Okay, Well, um, like you
- 21:08said, I'm a fourth generation coal miner, was born in mcdell County,
- 21:11and and they grew up in the unincorporated town of Joel. It's Jolo and
- 21:17it was affected deeply by the War on Coal and the warrant American energy.
- 21:19I've lifted firsthand and my family was experienced it, and I see the representation
- 21:23in Washington has done very little to fight back against that. Our representation should
- 21:27be fighting tooth and nail for our coal jobs. And you see people like
- 21:30Joe Manchin, who was one of the authors of the Inflation Expansion Act,
- 21:34and now that he's having buyer's remorse and now that it's election season, he's
- 21:37trying to flip flop. Well, you know, I've lifted that Warren cale.
- 21:41I've had to move several times, keep my family and you fed and
- 21:44stay employed. And you know, no one can fight better for our West
- 21:47Virginia jobs. And someone who's lived through that warran American Energy and truly knows
- 21:51how it impacts West Virginians. A little bit more about myself. I was
- 21:53a Tea Party member. I was the founding member and the first chair of
- 21:56the Blue Flow State College Republicans. I've helped other candidates get elected throughout the
- 22:00state and you know, legislative races. The first time I put my own
- 22:03name on the ballot. And also I volunteered for President Trump twenty sixteen to
- 22:08twenty twenty. And I can tell you this right now, I'm not gonna
- 22:11take all the credit, but I was part of the grassroots movement that flipped
- 22:15our state from blue to red after eighty four straight years of Democrat party control.
- 22:18And I'm now ready to take that same determination, passion, and grit
- 22:22for our state and apply it to Washington, because we need that true voice
- 22:26and a true certifire brand that our state keeps voting for and keeps not getting
- 22:30talking with Chris Rose again as a Republican candidate for US Senate. Here on
- 22:33to five eighty Live. Five eighty Live brought to you part by the Charleston
- 22:37Dirty Birds, your hometown baseball team up any nights for the Birds tomorrow night,
- 22:40and of course on the show tomorrow, we'll have a manager, Billy
- 22:42Horn, maybe some players. Eating Douglas and the crew from the Dirty Birds
- 22:45will be in studio with us tomorrow. I need more information about them,
- 22:48check out the social media visit dirty Bridge baseball dot com. Do you think
- 22:52that Senator Mansion will run for reelection Chris Well, that's definitely the million dollar
- 22:56question. I don't think he will. Actually, I think I was to
- 23:00place my bets on it. I think he's gonna run for governor, because
- 23:03really, let's be on it. Yeah, I do, because I tell
- 23:04you why, Because if you look at a lot of the polling, a
- 23:07lot of people like don't think they want Joe Manson back in Washington anymore.
- 23:11They're tired of Washington Joe, and a lot of the concerns that they have
- 23:15with him the necessarily the polling data suggest they kind of lose it when he
- 23:18runs for a statewide office where he stays in Charleston. A lot of people
- 23:21like Joe Menation as far as the person, not so much the politics,
- 23:23but the person. Joe is a likable person if you meet him in person.
- 23:27And I think that if he did run for governor, he'd be a
- 23:30formidable challenge for whoever wins the Republican primary. Now is that being said,
- 23:36He's not going to win the race for US Senate. There's gonna be so
- 23:38much money come in this race against him. For whoever the Republican primary winner
- 23:41is. It's gonna be a little different in twenty eighteen. You know,
- 23:45the demographics has changed. There's two hundred and twenty thousand new Republican wrestaurant voters.
- 23:48It's a presidential year unlike last time, and President Trump will be on
- 23:52the ticket, and whoever he endorses will get a lot of extra support compared
- 23:56to twenty eighteen. And I just don't think Manson can win that again.
- 23:59And I think that that's why it's not announced. It's it's interesting that you
- 24:02mentioned that, because, I mean, I started hearing rumors a couple of
- 24:04years ago, Chris that Senator Mansion was not going to run for reelection,
- 24:07he was going to come back and run for governor. And then those those
- 24:11rumors, I guess just kind of died down, but I'm starting to hear
- 24:15that again. I mean, and let's face it, whoever is I mean,
- 24:18I don't know who the Democrats are going to put up there to run.
- 24:22And I know you're not here to talk about the governors race. You're
- 24:23talking about your race, but I do want to put this, get this
- 24:26in there. I don't know who the Democrats are going to put up there.
- 24:27I've heard that Honey Ta mayor Steve Williams may be their candidate. We've
- 24:30heard some other names like you know, possibly been Silango Kanackandy commissioner that ran
- 24:34last time. But it is interesting, and I've heard those rumors too that
- 24:40a lot of people think that maybe Hey, Joeys changed his mind. He's
- 24:41gonna and he's gonna come back and run for governor. Who knows. Let's
- 24:45get back to your race. Uh, you're you know, you're a smart
- 24:48guy, Chris, obviously, and so you know it's going to be more
- 24:53than an uphill climb to get you to where you want to be in twenty
- 24:56twenty four. Oh you know, anyone who would interest race in my position
- 25:02and doesn't think that the lack of name recognition or lack of funds compared to
- 25:04the other two is not enough hill of battles. They're kidding themselves. I
- 25:07mean, you just can't walk into this thing and say, hey me and
- 25:10that's enough. Now you're gonna for us to counteract their money and their name
- 25:14recognition, we have to have the strongest ground game, and I mean by
- 25:17far. And that's one thing we have been working on. We have over
- 25:18three hundred volunteers. Y're working with us statewide. They're already doing door knocking
- 25:22and I'm doing it with them, and we know we're taking it to the
- 25:25voter. We're sitting on the front porch with them, We're sending up their
- 25:27dinner table with them and asking them voting for these career politicians and these as
- 25:30stassment candidates. How's that worked out for West Virginia the last enterred years.
- 25:34You know, how would you like to have one of your own, someone
- 25:37from the working class have to give us a seated table with Washington, and
- 25:40that does very well. We just gotta continue to do that and also expand
- 25:42our ground game because we're not going to have the money of the other ones.
- 25:45We're being out spent ten thousand to one. Necessary reality, But as
- 25:48long as we continue to work, we're hard on our ground game and get
- 25:52our message out, we do have a puncher's chance. But we also know
- 25:55it is an uphill battle. But West Virginia is worth that fight. So
- 25:59you know, this idle on the Republican side, as I mentioned before,
- 26:02between Congressman Mooney and Jim Justice, is going to be nasty and already.
- 26:06I mean, you know, the governor made his official announce but everybody knew
- 26:07it was coming a couple of weeks ago on a Thursday night. I got
- 26:11up the next morning, got a couple of coffee, flipped on the television,
- 26:14and I see an Alex Mooney commercial at like five fifteen in the morning,
- 26:17they already had it in the can and already ready to go. You
- 26:21know, I was talking to somebody yesterday that said that they were just so
- 26:26tired of politics right now. And this is going to be make no mistake
- 26:30about it. We're only Chris in May of twenty twenty three. We're a
- 26:33year away from the primary, and this state is going to be flooded with
- 26:38info. I mean, when things coming in pro Alex Mooney, anti Alex
- 26:42Mooney, pro Governor Justice anti jo you very well could be the guy just
- 26:47kind of setting on the sidelines with the popcorn, saying, let the chips
- 26:49fall where they may. Yeah, absolutely, let them, let them throw
- 26:52them mud at each other. Because West Virginians. I meanwhile, I mentioned
- 26:56a few things that are wrong with them. Also, I want to talk
- 26:57about the solutions. You know, West Virginians don't want to hear all this
- 27:00campaign MUDs being sling back and forth. They want to hear, Okay,
- 27:03well what are you going to do for me to get elected? And that's
- 27:06what we try to. You know, ninety nine percent of the times they
- 27:07met just on you know, when someone asked me what separates me from Moony
- 27:11and Justice, I'll definitely be more happy to answer that. I'm more interested
- 27:14in what can Chris Rose do see houth West Virginia more so than getting into
- 27:18that little political phrase. They're going to let them spend their millions of dollars
- 27:21throwing that dirt at each other. I'll continue to go around a state and
- 27:23work hard, shrek convince West Virginians, and I'm ready to go to Washington
- 27:27fight for them. And you know what, that positive message and that positive
- 27:32vision resonates so much better than the negative attack adds to those who are wasting
- 27:34millions of dollars on What are some of those things if you are elected,
- 27:37Chris, when you get to watch it, to give us an example of
- 27:41a couple of things that are going to be on your agenda for in the
- 27:44first thirty days or so. Well, obviously, the push to repel the
- 27:48Inflation Expansion Act, to get those production taxes that we're added on calling gas
- 27:52back off of them, and to expand federal leases on the federal ground and
- 27:56get some energy production back out so we can get our oil prices down.
- 28:00When you look at the inflation and Americans are suffering, it started with the
- 28:03energy prices, you know, obviously, we're printing money that we don't have.
- 28:07But on top of that, when we capped our own energy and start
- 28:10buying it from foreign nations, that's what's back this inflation and started getting it
- 28:14going out of control. And we need to get the EPA, you know,
- 28:18and control as well. And we need to have more legislative oversight over
- 28:22them because they are tribes to pass laws and policies without going through Congress,
- 28:25which is quite frankly unconstitutional. And I'm not saying I don't care about the
- 28:27environment, but we also don't need, you know, some through lettered agency
- 28:30running a rogue and attacking our energy jobs here in our state. And some
- 28:34other things that we need to do is continue the teriffs against China. We
- 28:38are in a trade war, whether anyone wants admit that or not. And
- 28:41we need to get our manufacturing independence from China. And we need to put
- 28:45some policies in place that entice companies that have left this nation due to other
- 28:49physical policy rather be taxes, regulations, or whatever, we need to put
- 28:52some enticing measures back in place they get those jobs back in America. Now,
- 28:56what I would really like to do is work with Charleston to get those
- 29:00jobs to West Virginia because I want West Virginia to lead America's way back to
- 29:03prosperity, and I think we can do that. Twenty four minutes away from
- 29:07Tim. Before we let you go, Chris, You've made no secret in
- 29:11your early campaigning as to your loyalty to former President Trump. We know that
- 29:15Governor Justice as a friend of the Trump family. We know the Congressman Alex
- 29:18Mooney had the endorsement a former President Trump and his race against David McKinley a
- 29:22rate that Mooney dominated. Is there enough Trump love to go around in your
- 29:26opinion? Is there a chance that? I mean, you know, if
- 29:27you look at your picture and I posted your picture, you know, as
- 29:30a preview to the show today, I mean, you've got to make America
- 29:33grade again, had On. Is there enough Trump love to go around for
- 29:36everybody? Oh? Sure? I mean, this is arguably the greatest president
- 29:40in American history. He's definitely in the conversation, he's definitely the greatest one
- 29:42in my lifetime. And it's okay that they both commands of them as well.
- 29:45I'm actually happy that they are. And you know, we know some
- 29:48people in the Trump organization as well, and the endorsement for eating one of
- 29:51those two. I can go ahead and throw this out there. It's not
- 29:52a guarantee for eating one of them. They're going to have to work for
- 29:55it, and I'm promising that we're going to get it. But I know
- 29:57it's not a guarantee for either one of them. And I mean, I
- 30:00can tell them this. While they were anti never Trumpers, when when the
- 30:03Gym Justice was running for governor and working with Hillary Clinton, I was working
- 30:07with President Trump. When Alex Mooney was working with the establishment and have the
- 30:11whole never Trump movement going on. I stood with President Trump. And that's
- 30:15been noticed, That's been duly noted, and we'll see how that shakes out.
- 30:18But no, I think most Republicans erning instead of West Virginia. If
- 30:21you're going to see him, support President Trump. I'll give you like the
- 30:26final thirty forty five seconds here to put your case out there. I mean,
- 30:30I mean, we know how much support there's going to be for Mooney,
- 30:33we know how much support there's going to be for Justice. People are
- 30:36going to be picking sides here. Why should somebody go with the alternative here
- 30:40in Chris Rose, Well, if you're tired of career politicians that over promise
- 30:45and under deliver and only served them once and needs of lobbyist, special interest
- 30:48groups and foreign nations. Other than that, we the people than ever campaign
- 30:52to Look. I'm not a career politician. I don't have big Megan owners.
- 30:55I'm not beholding to any political establishment or you know, lobbyist or interest
- 30:59groups. I'm here truly because I love our state and i love our country.
- 31:02And when I say I'm a blue car Conservativists, not a gimmick.
- 31:04I do work a full time job. I am one of you. And
- 31:07it's time that we, the people, the working class of West Virginia,
- 31:10had a seat at the table in Washington. And if you're interested in learning

- 31:52The federal government had to put up money to buy an abandon Cole site

- 35:54us Jeff, good morning. Always a tragedy when the family loses everything and
- 36:00the fire as we saw Friday night at the Chester Road area of Edgewood but
- 36:02this one is really raising some eyebrows. Thankfully no one was injured. We
- 36:07have the story with pictures posts to wv metronews dot com. What exactly is
- 36:10the story here? Well, the story, I mean, there's a fire
- 36:14obviously as you as you mentioned, and city firefighters had a difficult time finding
- 36:19a hydrant that worked. I mean, that's the long and short of it.
- 36:22I mean, they hooked up so this is in the Edgewood community,
- 36:24So they hooked up to the closest hydrant, did not get sufficient water level
- 36:30there. They went to a second hydrant which was a little further away,
- 36:35did not get sufficient water there, and so they had to eventually go down
- 36:39to Edgewood Drive, which was about sixteen hundred feet away, to try to
- 36:45get some water all the time. So when they arrived on the scene,
- 36:47this is key. When they arrived on the scene, it was smoke showing,
- 36:51really wasn't any flames showing, not significantly. And then they were able
- 36:55to battle with what they have on their trucks. You know, they need
- 37:00other water, you know, to put out fires, especially if they're large
- 37:02fires or potential to be large fires, and they just didn't get it.
- 37:07They called in tanker trucks like from Sissonville and from the Army National Guard Fire
- 37:13department up at Yeager and I think one other place, um to get some
- 37:16tank water there. I think one of the telling photos. You can see
- 37:20one of the photos and it's basically some firefighters standing around. They didn't have
- 37:25a lot of water too, you know. And I say that with up
- 37:30respect to firefighters, but but you know, but but they didn't have the
- 37:34water there. So the city put out a release, uh Saturday afternoon and
- 37:39Mayor Goodwin uh and in the chief of the fire department saying, you know,
- 37:45we didn't have addic water supply, and Mayor Goodwe called it unacceptable and
- 37:49that they would be getting in touch with West Virginia American Water Company. Not
- 37:53heard from the water company on this. Uh. We're reaching out today for
- 37:58the you know, try to get comment from the water company and from the
- 38:00mayor's office. So our hope is to be able to do a follow up
- 38:04story on this. But you know, you hear all kinds of things.
- 38:07I mean, I don't have any of this. You know that there's been
- 38:12sounding concern about water level in that area of town. Anyway, I'm not
- 38:15I'm not sure. I haven't been able to confirm that if that's the truth
- 38:19or not. But obviously there weren't fire. Hydrants weren't at the point of
- 38:24pressure to be able to battle house fire. And so you said, we're
- 38:30expecting, hopefully we'll get some sort of a statement release STUF. Well,
- 38:34I mean we're trying, we hope, we hope hope to get I mean,
- 38:36obviously it deserves a follow up story. Yeah, I mean, when
- 38:37the mayor puts out that kind of release and she's not happy choine, so,
- 38:43you know, so that's what we're trying to do today, to see
- 38:45what the status is and who's responsible. Obviously from the mayor's comments, it's
- 38:51a water company responsible for the water level, and I know the fire department
- 38:53does some things with the hydrants too, so there's probably some city responsibility there
- 38:58also just about you know, just you know, you know, I don't
- 39:02know a lot about who checks the hydrants and and but I would imagine water
- 39:07companies responsible for the water pressure. So we'll see what they say and quickly
- 39:12before we'll let you go. Um, there's also another story on the website
- 39:15about two mausoleums. Then we're damaged by a fire Saturday evening. Yeah,
- 39:17I understand that it was electrical and nature. It's up at the Canall Valley
- 39:21Gardens which is in Glasgow, you know, right across from the old power
- 39:23plant there in Glasgow and years about sixty so there was an electrical issue there
- 39:29and damaged a couple of mausoleums there. Again, that's another follow up today
- 39:35to see how significant that is. And of course it's significant for anybody who
- 39:38has a loved one buried there or in the mausoleum there remains, so and
- 39:44we'll follow up there too. Unusual, but if it's electrical nature that kind
- 39:47of would, I mean, that could happen obviously, so we'll try to
- 39:51We'll try to get a follow up there and get more information about the extent
- 39:53of the damage. All right, Jeff, I appreciate it, man.
- 39:55Thanks going all right, Jeff Jenkins from the news room. Five Any Line

- 40:27don't think that's what we need. But you don't need somebody else that doesn't
- 40:30have any idea what they're doing running for governor. All right, all right,
- 40:32before we get to what I got, I got something I gotta say
- 40:36here. We need some big news to get to. We're gonna pat ourselves

- 41:45lot of our colleagues across the TV and radio, so it's nice to celebrate
- 41:50what we do here. And it's nice to see so many people in one
- 41:52place. You know, I didn't get a chance to go to Morgantown last
- 41:54year, so it was nice just to see everybody again. It had been
- 41:57a while since I'd seen everybody in that circumstance, And yeah, I'm really
- 42:00proud of of our cluster here. Steve has done a great job over on

- 42:30program director of CHS. But CHS your show, the news show. That
- 42:36is really where the sausage has made. You heard all the awards that the
- 42:38news folks win, That's where CHS comes from. That's where we butter our
- 42:42bread. I've won this award ten straight years. I mean, that's that's
- 42:45their award, man, I mean that's ten years of news excellence and what
- 42:49we do here. And then for Hotline Man again ten years. This is
- 42:52our first time winning it. Uh, some stiff competition in the network category.
- 42:55Very happy with that. It's it's really thank you and Dave do a
- 43:00great job with that. Also, I want to give a shout out to
- 43:00the great Mark Martin. Yeah, Man, Mark was great. Mark picked
- 43:04up the Dale Miller Award for Distinguished Broadcaster for the year. That's pretty much,
- 43:07you know, along with the going into the Hall of Fame, that's
- 43:08pretty much the highest award a West Virginia broadcaster can get. Yeah, agreed.
- 43:15And Mark had a great speech. If this is online, if you
- 43:17have a chance to go back and watch it, and and you've known Mark
- 43:20for any amount of time, his speech was really great. He does a
- 43:22great job with those things. It was a good time, all right.
