Transcript
- 0:00Good morning , everyone !
- 0:02It is 5 am on Tuesday , February 10th , 2026 , in the Pacific time zone .
- 0:08I am your host , Sunny Sideup , and you are listening to Spy Trader , your frequent update on everything moving the markets .
- 0:17We are starting our day with a sense of cautious optimism after a truly historic Monday .
- 0:23If you missed the headlines yesterday , the Dow Jones Industrial Average finally did it — it crossed the 50,000 threshold for the first time ever , hitting an intraday high of 50,219 before closing right around 50,135 .
- 0:41It feels like a celebration , but today the market is taking a bit of a breather to see what comes next .
- 0:48Right now , the S&P 500 is hovering near 6,965 , while the Nasdaq100 is leading the charge at 23,238 .
- 0:59We are seeing a major leadership battle between highgrowth tech and cyclical value sectors .
- 1:04On the tech side , the big story is AI infrastructure .
- 1:08Oracle jumped nearly 10 percent yesterday after an AIdriven upgrade , and we are seeing renewed strength in NVIDIA and Broadcom .
- 1:17It seems the market is shifting from just talking about AI to actually building it out , fueled by massive spending from companies like Amazon and Meta .
- 1:26In the energy sector , things are getting spicy .
- 1:29Transocean just announced a 5.8 billion dollar deal to buy Valaris .
- 1:34That news sent Valaris stock soaring 34 percent and signals a big consolidation wave in energy services .
- 1:42With oil prices near 64 dollars , we are seeing a lot of interest in energy and materials .
- 1:49Looking at the bigger picture , the macro narrative is a bit of a rollercoaster .
- 1:54We have some uncertainty at the Federal Reserve with Kevin Warsh nominated as the next Chair , which has investors wondering if we are headed for a more unpredictable path .
- 2:04Plus , we are dealing with some delayed homework .
- 2:07Because of the partial government shutdown earlier this year , we are getting the January Jobs Report tomorrow and the CPI inflation data this Friday .
- 2:18With inflation staying stubborn near 3 percent and the 10year Treasury yield steady at 4.18 percent , everyone is waiting to see if the Fed will actually cut rates .
- 2:29Today is also a big day for earnings .
- 2:31We are watching CocaCola to see if consumers are still spending despite economic shifts , and Ford is expected to give us the scoop on their EV profitability .
- 2:41So , how should we be trading this ?
- 2:43Here are my top picks based on what we are seeing .
- 2:47First , I really like the valuation catchup play .
- 2:50While the big names are trading at high prices , smallcap stocks are sitting at a 13 percent discount .
- 2:57I would look at the iShares Russell 2000 ETF , ticker IWM , or the Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF , VTI , to catch that rotation .
- 3:08Second , stick with the AI infrastructure buildout .
- 3:12The Technology Select Sector SPDR , XLK , or a specific player like Broadcom , ticker AVGO , are great ways to play the networking and silicon demand .
- 3:23Third , we need to talk about gold .
- 3:26It recently surged above 5,000 dollars an ounce .
- 3:29Between the Fed transition and global tensions , gold is the preferred safe haven right now .
- 3:35I recommend being overweight in SPDR Gold Shares , GLD , as a hedge .
- 3:42Finally , for some stability , check out the iShares Core U.S.
- 3:45Aggregate Bond ETF , ticker AGG .
- 3:48With yields near 4.2 percent , it provides a nice buffer against any volatility we might see from Friday’s inflation report .
- 3:56In summary , keep a core position in broad funds like VOO , but lean into smallcaps for value and gold for protection .
- 4:04It is a great time to be an investor , but stay sharp !
- 4:08I am Sunny Sideup , and this has been Spy Trader .
