- 0:07Speaker 1: thank god, and into Atlanta. And guess who is with
- 0:09Speaker 1: us today? None other than Make You Dance, Dance, Dance.
- 0:13Speaker 1: I'm not y'all. Wow. I'm so happy to have you
- 0:23Speaker 1: here today, Thank you so much. So we were on
- 0:26Speaker 1: the phone, we were chatting. I was like, what are
- 0:28Speaker 1: you gonna make us? What are you what are you
- 0:30Speaker 1: cooking for us? What are you feeding me today? Um? Turkey,
- 0:33Speaker 1: We're gonna do a little turkey and meat. We're gonna
- 0:35Speaker 1: do some nice little jazz rice. I'm gonna chop it
- 0:38Speaker 1: up with a lot black beings on the side. You know,
- 0:40Speaker 1: you know that's my little one too, a little one
- 0:42Speaker 1: too quickly, Yes, quick. And it was a completely affordable.
- 0:46Speaker 1: I went into Walmart. The only thing is that pretty
- 0:48Speaker 1: View wanted the salt and vinegar chips. And I felt
- 0:52Speaker 1: so bad because she asked me, you know about the
- 0:54Speaker 1: salt in vinegar chips? And I did look. I was all.
- 0:59Speaker 1: First of all, I didn't know what I was looking for.
- 1:01Speaker 1: I looked at sour cream chips and I didn't know
- 1:03Speaker 1: what exa I've heard of them, but I didn't know
- 1:06Speaker 1: what bag they came in. So okay, okay, So now
- 1:10Speaker 1: okay is always in the hood, you gotta have a
- 1:14Speaker 1: soft if you broke you know what s because that
- 1:19Speaker 1: was twenty five since and min when I grew up.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Now it's probably a dollar act, your little local corner
- 1:23Speaker 1: storep you in New York. You gotta godega. That's just
- 1:26Speaker 1: what it is. But you gotta know what. I didn't
- 1:28Speaker 1: know what they are, and I've definitely had them before,
- 1:30Speaker 1: but I haven't seen them enough to be like, oh,
- 1:32Speaker 1: that's the But I did. I searched, and I was
- 1:35Speaker 1: telling me, like I searched, I'm down here in Atlanta's
- 1:38Speaker 1: my first time. It was a whole experience. Okay. Liveing
- 1:40Speaker 1: in l A, we don't see as many black people.
- 1:42Speaker 1: I was just like, oh my gosh, it's black people everywhere.
- 1:45Speaker 1: This is amazing. But I won't say the Walmart was
- 1:47Speaker 1: like bone dry. It was. It was like every shelf
- 1:50Speaker 1: was like half empty. Like it was since I told
- 1:54Speaker 1: you to go slide to the our gas station and
- 1:56Speaker 1: get you a que If I said man to due,
- 2:00Speaker 1: we said gets to get medic chips. You could put
- 2:02Speaker 1: it we should put we would have put some hot
- 2:04Speaker 1: sauce in there, and we put the hot sauceae and
- 2:06Speaker 1: that's when you see pork. We eat hot sauceas and
- 2:08Speaker 1: to crushing, the crushing, the crushing up. I used to
- 2:10Speaker 1: have song men get chips hot sauce, and we said that, um,
- 2:14Speaker 1: hot sausage. But you would put the sausage where in
- 2:18Speaker 1: the bag and crunch it up. You put the chips
- 2:21Speaker 1: in the bag with the hottuce, and then the hot
- 2:23Speaker 1: sausages in the hot sausages and but then how would
- 2:27Speaker 1: you eat it? Gop it up? Why did we eat
- 2:32Speaker 1: that today? Because I couldn't find sol in vinegars and
- 2:34Speaker 1: I don't eat pork, so that's okay. You could have
- 2:37Speaker 1: done a turkey sausage. All right, Well, why don't you
- 2:41Speaker 1: get us started on this and then hit the same alright,
- 2:44Speaker 1: so y'all, this is what time we on. We got
- 2:48Speaker 1: this turkey, so the meat okay, um, we are not
- 2:53Speaker 1: going to use all of this right, so we're just
- 2:55Speaker 1: gonna take a quick glob is the stove on? What
- 2:58Speaker 1: are we doing? Stuff has to be blood plots on?
- 3:02Speaker 1: So the comedian pan it's so well, I gotta take
- 3:06Speaker 1: the local spool or I gotta goupe like this, as
- 3:08Speaker 1: you guys could see the accent to go ahead. You know,
- 3:14Speaker 1: I'm definitely cooking this for my girl Coco. So nowadays,
- 3:18Speaker 1: are you cooking at home or you uber eats and
- 3:22Speaker 1: um eating? Now I'm cooking, but I'm definitely going out
- 3:28Speaker 1: to eat. And my mom lives like fifteen minutes away
- 3:30Speaker 1: from me, so I have the best of both worlds.
- 3:33Speaker 1: You should say, food is ready, I'm there, speedy Gunzales.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Oh you're not late because you know it's there. Well,
- 3:40Speaker 1: I'm late. But then when I know I'm hungry and
- 3:41Speaker 1: I just want my mom company, I'm there. You know,
- 3:43Speaker 1: my mom is a pastor too, so sometimes I need
- 3:45Speaker 1: to he got good up, good up word. So I
- 3:48Speaker 1: like to just go and sitwhere and then when it's
- 3:50Speaker 1: food involved, hilarious, are you good to go? So what
- 3:57Speaker 1: we're gonna do? You guys? We have a turkey meet
- 3:59Speaker 1: in the hot right now. And again, like I said,
- 4:01Speaker 1: this is my meal while I was broke. I mean,
- 4:05Speaker 1: so for some people, a mazing my great, that's a
- 4:07Speaker 1: regular meal I eat on the day. But babey, I
- 4:09Speaker 1: was eating this swinty four seven of my day coming
- 4:12Speaker 1: home from work. I used to work at the Film
- 4:14Speaker 1: Fair Marriott. I used to work for the Baby. I
- 4:17Speaker 1: used to work for somebody. Did you say I used
- 4:20Speaker 1: to work for the Baby, Yes, I was doing his
- 4:23Speaker 1: admin work. I was working for South Because Music, the
- 4:25Speaker 1: group with Honor Teller, and um, I was doing like
- 4:28Speaker 1: radio plays. And I started off doing radio. I wanted
- 4:31Speaker 1: to do radio so bad. I looked up to Art
- 4:33Speaker 1: Angie Martinez still do La La the Ludicrous is Wendy Williams,
- 4:37Speaker 1: everybody like in that field, and I wanted to do that.
- 4:40Speaker 1: You know. I didn't want to be in front of
- 4:42Speaker 1: the camera at first. Um, but I just knew because
- 4:45Speaker 1: I could do different voices and different things and different characters.
- 4:47Speaker 1: I was like, I could do this, Um. But it
- 4:50Speaker 1: didn't pop off of me like that. But I didn't
- 4:51Speaker 1: have my own radio show in college called the uh
- 4:54Speaker 1: Lounge twenty two. And then I moved to Charlotte and
- 4:56Speaker 1: I had my own show called the v XL Show. So, um,
- 5:00Speaker 1: I was, so, you've been moving around, You've been around
- 5:03Speaker 1: in the industry. Yeah. And then I was working at
- 5:05Speaker 1: phil Firm Maria, and I was so tired of it.
- 5:07Speaker 1: So I used to go into this building and I
- 5:09Speaker 1: always hear music, like what is that? And I'm like, God,
- 5:12Speaker 1: I just want to be in some form of this industry.
- 5:14Speaker 1: I don't know which part you have for me, but
- 5:16Speaker 1: I know it's there. Um and Donald Taylor told me, Hey,
- 5:21Speaker 1: I have a job open for you. Want to be
- 5:22Speaker 1: my assistant, my admin? And I said yeah. And from
- 5:25Speaker 1: there he had an artist called Baby Jesus now the
- 5:28Speaker 1: Baby and there was this was two thousand and seventeen,
- 5:36Speaker 1: sixteen seventeen. Yeah, so you're working for them, You're are you?
- 5:41Speaker 1: Are you? Would you say you were struggling or were
- 5:43Speaker 1: you just like paycheck to paycheck? Because you're also doing
- 5:45Speaker 1: where you working in the Marriott? And yes, I was
- 5:48Speaker 1: working the Marriott, And well I got fired from the Marriott,
- 5:50Speaker 1: and then I went to South Coast Music Group and
- 5:53Speaker 1: I was actually working on my craft and working on
- 5:55Speaker 1: South Coast. I didn't forget the comedy, like I was
- 5:58Speaker 1: still doing skits on Instagram. So you were doing your
- 6:00Speaker 1: comedy and in working it, but you're not in radio
- 6:04Speaker 1: at all. I'm not in radio at all. I mean
- 6:05Speaker 1: I had my own show at a station, but I
- 6:08Speaker 1: stopped doing that because of some some conflicts I haven't had,
- 6:13Speaker 1: but um, I was still like, you know what, I'm
- 6:15Speaker 1: gonna still do this comedy theme my cousin, you know,
- 6:18Speaker 1: I was like, Yo, you need to show the warrior
- 6:20Speaker 1: talent on Instagram and that from that, that's when I
- 6:24Speaker 1: created Peanut Mom, Sharon and all my characters from there.
- 6:28Speaker 1: So were you doing stand up comedy at all before
- 6:31Speaker 1: the skits? Yes, I did. I. Um, I went on
- 6:33Speaker 1: the road with Jess Hilarious and some other comics and
- 6:36Speaker 1: they were the first one to bring me on the road. Um,
- 6:39Speaker 1: and I was doing that too, and I was still
- 6:41Speaker 1: like trying to figure it out. You know. That's when
- 6:44Speaker 1: I auditioned for a while and out around that time too.
- 6:46Speaker 1: I didn't make it at that that year in two
- 6:49Speaker 1: thousand eight nineteen is when they called me back to
- 6:52Speaker 1: to be on the show. And it's been my seventh season. Now,
- 6:55Speaker 1: that's amazing. Yeah. So I've been all over the places
- 6:58Speaker 1: you have been, and seems like you pivot a lot
- 7:01Speaker 1: throughout your whole career. Yeah, now I do notice. So
- 7:06Speaker 1: you dance very well. Is that like just natural or
- 7:10Speaker 1: was there any passion in the dance. Definitely, It's still
- 7:12Speaker 1: passion in the dance world. I really want to look
- 7:14Speaker 1: up at ballet U, a ballet Um studio out here
- 7:18Speaker 1: in Atlanta because I used to dance for seven years
- 7:21Speaker 1: doing ballet and I stopped doing that, and then I
- 7:24Speaker 1: used to Me and my cousin Deja used to dance
- 7:27Speaker 1: for the Miami Heat but we used to do Junior
- 7:28Speaker 1: League tries to come out halftime. So yeah, dance, ballet
- 7:35Speaker 1: is my thing. I love ballet, ballet in I could
- 7:38Speaker 1: do tap, yeah, but in being Jamaican, you grew up
- 7:43Speaker 1: around your family with this or anything they do is dancing.
- 7:46Speaker 1: So I grewup around people on their head top, split
- 7:48Speaker 1: in and winding up like all over the place. And
- 7:51Speaker 1: that's just me. Wow. Yeah, I love dancing. It's just
- 7:55Speaker 1: it keeps you youthful. When when did you say would
- 7:59Speaker 1: you say like was a pivotal moment where you were like,
- 8:01Speaker 1: I think I'm onto something, because if you were, you
- 8:04Speaker 1: went from you know, you were doing radio, you were
- 8:07Speaker 1: pursuing radio. Then you ended up getting ah your own
- 8:12Speaker 1: radio show. But then it seems like you went to
- 8:14Speaker 1: work for the Marriott then you ended up becoming admin.
- 8:18Speaker 1: When along that journey where you like, I think I'm
- 8:21Speaker 1: onto something here. When Arnold Taylor fired me and told
- 8:25Speaker 1: me to go kick rocks and you need to focus
- 8:28Speaker 1: on your comedy. Yeah, shout out to Arnold Taylor. And
- 8:31Speaker 1: the baby called me that same maybe like two days later.
- 8:33Speaker 1: I was like, man, you're too funny. Do your ship.
- 8:36Speaker 1: So that year was the year I was like, I'm
- 8:38Speaker 1: onto something, Jesus. And that year was about faith. It
- 8:41Speaker 1: was about movement for me and knowing that I have
- 8:43Speaker 1: a call and a purpose of my life. So why
- 8:45Speaker 1: not take take this step in from there? Um, I
- 8:50Speaker 1: haven't stopped since. So when you got fired, where you
- 8:54Speaker 1: at all taken back or where you like I knew
- 8:57Speaker 1: when he said he fired you because you had higher purpose.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Yeah that's kind of bitter sweet, I would imagine. Yeah,
- 9:03Speaker 1: But it was more of, you know, I didn't have
- 9:07Speaker 1: my faith a kicking heavy now. You know. It wasn't
- 9:10Speaker 1: like I could go back and work and and do
- 9:13Speaker 1: this and and and you know, get my job back.
- 9:16Speaker 1: He was he said what he said, like, I gotta
- 9:18Speaker 1: let you go, and I need you to focus on
- 9:19Speaker 1: what you need to focus on. But they didn't know
- 9:21Speaker 1: I didn't have a backup. I didn't have no backup,
- 9:23Speaker 1: but Jesus, so how are you making them? To meet? Um?
- 9:26Speaker 1: I got viral off Instagram and then I was making
- 9:28Speaker 1: five in allars of month. And then from there me
- 9:31Speaker 1: and my sister was putting the bills. Wow, yeah, y'all,
- 9:34Speaker 1: we're putting this. We just finished putting this pepper on it.
- 9:36Speaker 1: We brought the salt Arairea on the air. I was,
- 9:39Speaker 1: it's looking good as it get a little dark. You
- 9:41Speaker 1: got the black beans wrong. We got the black beans
- 9:43Speaker 1: all hot up the hood. Put some water on in
- 9:50Speaker 1: that baby too loud. Let's let's put a little sick
- 9:54Speaker 1: and sick and sack and sack act. Okay, all right?
- 10:01Speaker 1: Did I did I burn? Did we burn the pot? Yeah?
- 10:05Speaker 1: Okay you burn? They pop? Okay, So look we're gonna
- 10:12Speaker 1: hold on. We need like a little here, we have
- 10:14Speaker 1: more tools. What do you have more tools? Okay? Yeah,
- 10:16Speaker 1: we need a little stir. Okay, do you need me
- 10:18Speaker 1: to stir the beans while I please please make yourself
- 10:21Speaker 1: at home? I will, I will, I will. I'm so
- 10:24Speaker 1: sorry the beans put it down for all of you listeners.
- 10:28Speaker 1: I have never made beans before outside of on this show.
- 10:34Speaker 1: So this is my first time experiencing black beans. I
- 10:37Speaker 1: thought they just come like ready made, like baked beans,
- 10:40Speaker 1: but they don't. Um. But back to you being viral,
- 10:44Speaker 1: So your video, at what point did you realize, Okay,
- 10:49Speaker 1: I'm viral because now you have like almost six million
- 10:51Speaker 1: followers on Instagram. But was there a point where you
- 10:54Speaker 1: were like whoa, um, when I was firing myself in
- 10:58Speaker 1: the street, when you was when I spotting myself in
- 11:00Speaker 1: the street, and I was like, that was my first
- 11:03Speaker 1: view that went okay, okay, okay, and then from there
- 11:06Speaker 1: I was like, all right, I'm virable. What's next? Did
- 11:09Speaker 1: you feel pressure to keep it up? Definitely? That's when
- 11:13Speaker 1: the creativity came, like all right now at this point
- 11:17Speaker 1: besides like the no, it was the baby as big
- 11:20Speaker 1: then or were No, he wasn't had more funtwers him
- 11:23Speaker 1: at the time, so he was trying to get his
- 11:25Speaker 1: music out and all that. And what's so crazy is
- 11:27Speaker 1: I used to always come down to Atlanta and to
- 11:29Speaker 1: help the Simone to do a song with this guy.
- 11:31Speaker 1: I was like, do a song with this guy. He's upcoming,
- 11:33Speaker 1: He's so dope. She was like okay, and never did
- 11:36Speaker 1: Now she run around somebody that's her boyfriend, you know,
- 11:39Speaker 1: at that time something like she's like, I know since
- 11:42Speaker 1: so the world works in mysterious ways. But yeah, we
- 11:44Speaker 1: was definitely uh locked in when it came down to
- 11:48Speaker 1: us promoting each other because I used to do skips
- 11:50Speaker 1: with the baby we I got. I still got skips
- 11:52Speaker 1: on my page. I sent to him. I sent him
- 11:54Speaker 1: some skits the other day that was hilarious. So now
- 11:59Speaker 1: you're going from we're just trying. I'm trying to catch
- 12:01Speaker 1: your evolution journey. Now, so you wanna be am I
- 12:05Speaker 1: doing a bad job. And I just want to make
- 12:07Speaker 1: sure these beans is cooked, cooked, cooked correctly. So I
- 12:11Speaker 1: see you season the meat. It looks all good and tasting. No,
- 12:19Speaker 1: it's definitely soft. Now we're gonna see these beans. Ah,
- 12:22Speaker 1: we season the beans. Okay o my allergies. So when
- 12:27Speaker 1: it comes to the influencers that you hang out with,
- 12:30Speaker 1: you guys were all you guys? How did that like
- 12:33Speaker 1: collaboration come about? Like how did you guys all become friends?
- 12:37Speaker 1: Just the connection like you know, one do a video,
- 12:39Speaker 1: the other other one tells them about the energy. You
- 12:42Speaker 1: know that we always because I don't hang are a
- 12:45Speaker 1: lot of people we are actually dumping this meat. Okay,
- 12:49Speaker 1: I don't hang are a lot of people. You are
- 12:51Speaker 1: asso sweet. So for all y'all listeners, I tried to
- 12:56Speaker 1: you know, of course, I was trying to get pretty
- 12:58Speaker 1: V for a long time. We had gone back and forth,
- 13:01Speaker 1: uh at Black Effect, trying to get pretty V and uh,
- 13:06Speaker 1: I can't even tell you how sweet she is off camera?
- 13:11Speaker 1: Thank you? So like the personality that makes you go, oh,
- 13:15Speaker 1: we're friends, but you know you instay connection, that's how
- 13:18Speaker 1: your vibe and even on the phone. Yeah, I was
- 13:21Speaker 1: like I didn't want to get the phone. I was like,
- 13:22Speaker 1: she was so sweet immediately, like we're asking each other
- 13:25Speaker 1: questions like I'm just making you make it? So how's
- 13:28Speaker 1: that like? So yeah, but back to back to our interview.
- 13:35Speaker 1: So you're going viral, You're you're at this point, you're
- 13:39Speaker 1: making good money. I would assume, right, Um, which one
- 13:42Speaker 1: which part? No? Because when I first got by, I
- 13:44Speaker 1: was making no money like that probately all was a
- 13:46Speaker 1: month ain't no money? No, But at what point do
- 13:48Speaker 1: you start to elevate? When I got wailing out Nick Cannon,
- 13:53Speaker 1: when Nick Cannon gave me an opportunity to showcase my
- 13:55Speaker 1: talent on that show because when I start seeing, okay,
- 13:58Speaker 1: this is gonna help me, and I'm able to move
- 14:00Speaker 1: outside of Charlotte. And that's why I'm him in here
- 14:03Speaker 1: in Atlanta. That's what made me move. Wow, it wasn't
- 14:06Speaker 1: the Nick Cannon at it again? Yeah, Nick again? And
- 14:11Speaker 1: I would say out of thirty episodes, and Nick Cannon
- 14:13Speaker 1: plays a pivotal role and at least ten of those thirty,
- 14:16Speaker 1: oh my god, he plays a role. He plays a role.
- 14:18Speaker 1: He's like the silent role player. He's like, oh my god.
- 14:20Speaker 1: And that's what we as levers because I'm a libra, right,
- 14:23Speaker 1: so we don't have to showcase what we do for people.
- 14:26Speaker 1: We don't have to do that. When your heart speaks,
- 14:27Speaker 1: you just move, you know. And I think Nick definitely
- 14:31Speaker 1: has cheer lead me on on that show for seven seasons.
- 14:34Speaker 1: And that's why I was able to buy my first house.
- 14:37Speaker 1: I was thank you in Atlanta and here Ina, I
- 14:42Speaker 1: was gonna ask you, Yeah, I just bought my first house. Um,
- 14:47Speaker 1: literally just closed on my mom's house. You watch your mom, then,
- 14:51Speaker 1: God is amazing, that's amazing. What an accomplishment. Yeah, well
- 14:55Speaker 1: God could said God did that? God by her house,
- 14:58Speaker 1: you know, because it was it was um, it was
- 15:01Speaker 1: it needed to happen. But I just also feel like,
- 15:04Speaker 1: you know, at the end of the day, you know,
- 15:07Speaker 1: he's just been amazing and I just want to see
- 15:09Speaker 1: what else he has in store for me. That knows
- 15:11Speaker 1: big things happening. So you guys, we are actually done
- 15:14Speaker 1: with the turkey meat. Oh night, you've been you started
- 15:17Speaker 1: up really well, and we're actually done with the black beats.
- 15:19Speaker 1: See the black beads don't take too and then we
- 15:22Speaker 1: finished the jazz and rice. Okay, so what do we
- 15:24Speaker 1: have to do now? So now do you want to
- 15:26Speaker 1: taste before we throw it on your plate? I trust
- 15:28Speaker 1: my food, your food, okay. First of all, I'm hungry
- 15:32Speaker 1: and I'm an eater, okay, so period, this is yours,
- 15:43Speaker 1: So digg in first. Here we're gonna make we put
- 15:46Speaker 1: the meat in first, or the rest of the turkey first,
- 15:49Speaker 1: like this, so that just in the middle extra Look
- 15:54Speaker 1: all right, now I'm gonna get some rice, alright, Sam,
- 15:57Speaker 1: school you're fine, all right? And this is full me up,
- 16:05Speaker 1: y'all When I tell you I can't even afford the
- 16:08Speaker 1: cheeseburger with the extra chold sauce on the side. You
- 16:10Speaker 1: are one of those dollar burger meal. I was definitely
- 16:13Speaker 1: dollar very girl cheeseburger, Yes I was. And then we're
- 16:17Speaker 1: gonna give you some black beans. Say, oh yeah, all right,
- 16:23Speaker 1: black beans. Oh it looks good, It looks, it looks
- 16:28Speaker 1: looks looks le Look, there's a couple of flowers, and
- 16:33Speaker 1: we're good to go. Okay, so let me switch sides,
- 16:35Speaker 1: which is just hoping the camera work. Okay, but we're
- 16:39Speaker 1: just messing. I feel bad for the editing crew. So
- 16:42Speaker 1: we're gonna throw a little rice on here. It's very
- 16:44Speaker 1: well seasoned. So you know, my sister actually cooked this
- 16:48Speaker 1: morning me for me, and because I was so lazy,
- 16:51Speaker 1: were cooking food? Ain't doing that? I think because I'm
- 16:55Speaker 1: the last child and my mom. The whole time you're
- 16:57Speaker 1: pursuing entertainment, are your parents are hundred percent in support?
- 17:02Speaker 1: My father at first wasn't because he was like, what
- 17:04Speaker 1: that you need? We're gonna find a job. He was like,
- 17:07Speaker 1: IM a comedian, you need to go work, and I lie, y'all,
- 17:10Speaker 1: he needs to be a realistic John's And I said
- 17:12Speaker 1: that that's not what my heart is at. And what
- 17:14Speaker 1: did he say? Now He's like, oh, I see you
- 17:16Speaker 1: in time score on two Street. Okay, that's my daughter.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Wo turn up. You know. So my mom was also
- 17:22Speaker 1: for my mom as a pastor, so for her, she's
- 17:24Speaker 1: so in tuned. So she was like, Oh, you're gonna
- 17:26Speaker 1: be the arts. Before I got you, I was in
- 17:29Speaker 1: middle school when she said that. He said, you're gonna
- 17:31Speaker 1: be the arts and continue to trust God. And I've
- 17:35Speaker 1: trusted him and I'm still trusting him because I also
- 17:37Speaker 1: feel like my job is not done. I still have
- 17:39Speaker 1: so much more to accomplish. I have so much more
- 17:42Speaker 1: to accomplish, and I'm so ready. So my dad was
- 17:46Speaker 1: at first he was he was a little shaky and
- 17:48Speaker 1: then he grew on him. How long did it take
- 17:50Speaker 1: for him to get over the shakiness, Um, I were
- 17:53Speaker 1: like two years. He was still like, Oh, we need
- 17:57Speaker 1: to try what you are doing because you need to
- 17:59Speaker 1: make my local money. So your comedia know, y'all are
- 18:01Speaker 1: krown foolishness crazy y'all. You do a perfect accent, you know,
- 18:07Speaker 1: perfect perfect. It's so funny because you go in and out.
- 18:09Speaker 1: So does your mom talk with an accent? My mom
- 18:13Speaker 1: does only when she's like talking to the family, and
- 18:17Speaker 1: you know when we were around that Miami family. My
- 18:19Speaker 1: dad straight like my dad has. Of course he had
- 18:22Speaker 1: throw the accent in there, but it's like you could
- 18:24Speaker 1: see here it okay nice. Yeah, my mom does it
- 18:27Speaker 1: when she's mad, when she's about to whoop our asks.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Oh yeah yeah, yeah, this is his death alright, you
- 18:35Speaker 1: got I try to plaint my extra special, you know,
- 18:39Speaker 1: trying to Okay, here we go, This looks delicious, comfortable,
- 18:43Speaker 1: and we got sweetie and we have sweetie. And sweet
- 18:46Speaker 1: tea was definitely given very much when I was broken
- 18:50Speaker 1: enough to say, you can't drink it now. But I
- 18:52Speaker 1: don't drink juice like that. So now I'm like, you
- 18:54Speaker 1: know what, just bring me back to my place of
- 18:57Speaker 1: really you know, my humble vibes. And I'm still a
- 18:59Speaker 1: humble beast. But now it's time to sit on some
- 19:02Speaker 1: sweet sweet tea. I love it. I love any excuse
- 19:05Speaker 1: to drink anything sweet. Oh. I remember when where I
- 19:09Speaker 1: was at when I drink a sweet tea. I was
- 19:13Speaker 1: trying to figure it out. Now I'm won't feed you.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Here we are, we're eating. So now you're successful, your viral,
- 19:21Speaker 1: you're a comedian, you're on willing out and now we're
- 19:24Speaker 1: going back to you eating a dish that you ate
- 19:28Speaker 1: when you were broke. They're not crazy to think that
- 19:32Speaker 1: I could eat make this today, though, But when was
- 19:34Speaker 1: the last thing you ate this? Oh? Baby? Two wow? Alright,
- 19:38Speaker 1: well let's take a let's take a bite into two thousands. Now,
- 19:40Speaker 1: if you gotta run to the bathroom after this is
- 19:42Speaker 1: I understand? Okay, she goes, I got another shoot, But no,
- 19:47Speaker 1: we have to pray before we Yeah, sorry, Father God,
- 19:50Speaker 1: that's is food, little God. And I just asked that
- 19:52Speaker 1: you take away anything that I threw in here that's
- 19:55Speaker 1: not going to agree with cocoa body. And if we
- 19:58Speaker 1: have to rush to the restaurant feeling I actaid, I
- 20:01Speaker 1: will go first. In the name of Jesus Amen. That
- 20:06Speaker 1: was the best prayer of all time. God, Please forgive
- 20:09Speaker 1: me for laughing during that list. See you know what
- 20:14Speaker 1: the meat is same as a season. So well, this
- 20:18Speaker 1: is fine. Look at that. This is fire. Let me
- 20:22Speaker 1: tell you something I'm saying. I don't even know if
- 20:24Speaker 1: this dish, never heard of it. Look, you got your
- 20:27Speaker 1: robe on and you're just watching baby Boy on TV
- 20:29Speaker 1: and love a basketball and you just eating you got
- 20:31Speaker 1: doing eating this, but you just eat because you don't
- 20:33Speaker 1: know what'sn't it? Did you come up with us or
- 20:38Speaker 1: someone in your house? Then my sister did. First of all,
- 20:41Speaker 1: this is amazing, it's amazing. It's totally affordable. This meal
- 20:46Speaker 1: was super cheap. I'm mad that I didn't bring the
- 20:48Speaker 1: salt and vinegar chips. Next time I see you, I
- 20:50Speaker 1: promised you love a case of salt vinegar chips. Just
- 20:52Speaker 1: waiting the good old days. So what does it feel
- 20:57Speaker 1: like eating this dish looking back at like like where
- 21:01Speaker 1: you are today? You just bought your house, you bought
- 21:03Speaker 1: your your mom as a house. Now you're wiling out.
- 21:08Speaker 1: You're super viral. And the great thing about what I
- 21:11Speaker 1: think it's amazing about their story is your viral being you.
- 21:15Speaker 1: You're You're you, You're not a character. But what does
- 21:20Speaker 1: it feel like eating this dish sitting in the seat
- 21:23Speaker 1: you are today? It's definitely humble beginnings, you know, but
- 21:28Speaker 1: it's also I've I've learned you to always sent to
- 21:31Speaker 1: yourself and always be humble. So I think for me
- 21:34Speaker 1: eating this food is just like you know, just you
- 21:36Speaker 1: know where you just came from, you know, and it's
- 21:38Speaker 1: a place where I would never go back. But I
- 21:40Speaker 1: would not deter this meal though, because I was still eating,
- 21:43Speaker 1: you know, I was still cook some turkey with some
- 21:45Speaker 1: brown um, some brown rice and some black beans. You know.
- 21:48Speaker 1: But it just it just shows you like you've came
- 21:50Speaker 1: so far, because I promise you I didn't think about
- 21:53Speaker 1: this meal until we was on the phone and I
- 21:54Speaker 1: was like, oh, I gotta move that I used to
- 21:56Speaker 1: eat back in the day. So it's just really at
- 21:58Speaker 1: my humble beginnings where I started and just know, like
- 22:01Speaker 1: me my sister was actually sharing a two bed room
- 22:04Speaker 1: apartment in Charlotte, just trying to figure it out. You know.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Was there ever a point in your career and I
- 22:09Speaker 1: know you're very faith driven where you were like a
- 22:11Speaker 1: little shaken where you're like maybe maybe I meantually just settle.
- 22:16Speaker 1: I mean, those moments came through my mind, but I
- 22:18Speaker 1: just knew I had a bigger purpose and I just
- 22:20Speaker 1: knew if I could turn that frown into a smile,
- 22:24Speaker 1: I know I have a purpose and not seen it.
- 22:26Speaker 1: So could you tell me an exact point where you
- 22:29Speaker 1: were like, uh, I don't know, Um, I just maybe
- 22:35Speaker 1: felt like like where someone like maybe made you question,
- 22:39Speaker 1: Like I know, even with our show eating while broke.
- 22:41Speaker 1: I always have those moments where I'm like, oh my god,
- 22:44Speaker 1: I must be crazy. You know. Did you ever have
- 22:47Speaker 1: those moments where you like, maybe I'm just especially especially
- 22:50Speaker 1: if your dad was also like you know, if you
- 22:52Speaker 1: have one, I'm not saying it was a naysayer, but
- 22:55Speaker 1: someone that was like I mean, as influencers always trying
- 22:57Speaker 1: to figure out what's next. So even you any you're
- 23:00Speaker 1: always just trying to forget you know, how far I'm
- 23:02Speaker 1: going to get into what I'm doing. But I always
- 23:05Speaker 1: live by longevity. My favorite meeting is Jim actor of
- 23:09Speaker 1: Jim Carrey. So I just always lived by like I
- 23:12Speaker 1: want my name to be with besides him, beside his name,
- 23:15Speaker 1: you know. So I think when my father used to
- 23:17Speaker 1: always say they ain't this or this ain't that. I
- 23:21Speaker 1: just remember like I gotta keep going. You know. It
- 23:24Speaker 1: was some moments where I was like, you know, like okay,
- 23:27Speaker 1: but I just never thought of going back where I
- 23:29Speaker 1: came from. I always try to look ahead, so I
- 23:31Speaker 1: never had a moment where I'm gonna do this. In
- 23:34Speaker 1: my mind is always picture myself like I'm not here
- 23:36Speaker 1: where else I would be, you know, But I don't
- 23:39Speaker 1: know because this is where I called to do it.
- 23:42Speaker 1: So there was never a backup plan. Ever, never a
- 23:44Speaker 1: backup plan. This is what I would be wanting to do.
- 23:46Speaker 1: Was always say I want to be a lawyer. But
- 23:48Speaker 1: ch'all no. Every time I talked to a lawyer of
- 23:51Speaker 1: one of my best friends as a lawyer, oh they
- 23:54Speaker 1: it's a horrible job. It's just like good on TV.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Yeah no. So this was always my plan A plan B, B, plans, C, D, E, F, G,
- 24:02Speaker 1: and whatever the alphabets after that. So when you were
- 24:05Speaker 1: working at the Marriott, you were just doing that to
- 24:09Speaker 1: like survive, and you know, my mom tis ever, they
- 24:15Speaker 1: will find a job. So I was trying to show
- 24:17Speaker 1: up a little bit, like all right, I'm gonna go.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Do you remember where exactly you were when you shot
- 24:22Speaker 1: your first video. I was at my best friend's apartment.
- 24:26Speaker 1: There's somebody outside into it, and where you shy uploading it?
- 24:30Speaker 1: I get shot. Sometimes I'll be like, uh, I love that.
- 24:34Speaker 1: I don't know that thing, girl, yeahs ship that. What
- 24:40Speaker 1: the hell we did upload that? Kid? I love that.
- 24:44Speaker 1: I was excited. I wandered, I don't see what the
- 24:46Speaker 1: views was. And then I've seen Missy Elliot under that
- 24:49Speaker 1: Monica all these famous people. I'm like, oh, we lit
- 24:53Speaker 1: and it was funny. I was like, bitch, so what's
- 24:54Speaker 1: the next kip? Yeah, and I was like I don't know,
- 25:00Speaker 1: So I had to really dig deep in my mind
- 25:01Speaker 1: to create something. So yeah, yeah, I love your I
- 25:05Speaker 1: love how real you are on your page. So when
- 25:09Speaker 1: you get the call for walling out, like where are you?
- 25:12Speaker 1: What are you doing? When it's like, okay, we want
- 25:15Speaker 1: you to join wale, I was at my own girl
- 25:16Speaker 1: house when they call me because I like to get
- 25:19Speaker 1: on willing out the audition, I said. I told him
- 25:21Speaker 1: I was like DC Young Plock cousin, and they were like, bit,
- 25:24Speaker 1: all right, you're not did you even know him? No,
- 25:28Speaker 1: I didn't know him at all. So you said that,
- 25:32Speaker 1: but obviously I didn't play a role in your getting
- 25:34Speaker 1: I was like, I'm DC Young if I look cousin,
- 25:36Speaker 1: and Colins Miller is my uncle on the tape on
- 25:41Speaker 1: the day and so then the back and then what happens.
- 25:45Speaker 1: My home girl was like my m was like, you
- 25:47Speaker 1: need to um, you know, you need to say that,
- 25:50Speaker 1: say somebody your cousin on there. That's how I got
- 25:52Speaker 1: the audition and then when I go, that's how you
- 25:54Speaker 1: got the audition? Okay, so you get that. Flew to
- 25:57Speaker 1: New York. I brewed to New York, y'all, and um,
- 26:03Speaker 1: I went up in that room and I seen Dolly.
- 26:06Speaker 1: I see Nia, I've seen everybody from VITICM. And I
- 26:10Speaker 1: was like, ship, well, here we go. He said do this,
- 26:12Speaker 1: do that, and I was like okay. Dolly was like, oh,
- 26:15Speaker 1: that's the girl from Instagram. Dolly had Dolly had a
- 26:18Speaker 1: little poofball and she was just like, um oh, I
- 26:22Speaker 1: know that girl. She's the group from Instagram. And I performed,
- 26:25Speaker 1: but I didn't make it. Was there that day just hilarious.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Was in that day? They all made it but me.
- 26:31Speaker 1: So they told you right there on the spot that
- 26:33Speaker 1: you made if you made it or not. No, they
- 26:35Speaker 1: just say next play games and then they call you
- 26:37Speaker 1: back after you leave. And I didn't get a call back.
- 26:41Speaker 1: How do you know they got the call back? Um,
- 26:44Speaker 1: because I don't. I don't know be someone never told me.
- 26:46Speaker 1: I watched your YouTube and found out that she had
- 26:49Speaker 1: got a call back. Oh gosh, how did that make
- 26:51Speaker 1: you feel at the moment, like damn? Which I wanted
- 26:54Speaker 1: to make it? Do but it's fine. I was trying
- 26:56Speaker 1: to do it all my time. So then where are
- 26:59Speaker 1: you when you get that show call that you got it?
- 27:01Speaker 1: I was at my home ground. Wait, how many backs?
- 27:03Speaker 1: How many times did you audition? Audition once? I hadn't
- 27:07Speaker 1: want to keep going on JEP moves, So I was
- 27:09Speaker 1: the first time. That's what we at that So but
- 27:12Speaker 1: I was it was still part where I was still
- 27:14Speaker 1: late because I was hosting Lala Carmelos Lala Anthony's uh
- 27:20Speaker 1: um Um charity giveaway in New York two years in
- 27:24Speaker 1: a row, you know, and I just like that was
- 27:26Speaker 1: a blessing, you know, for me around those times. So
- 27:29Speaker 1: when while they called me back, I had something to do,
- 27:31Speaker 1: you know, so um, and you're already viral, You're already
- 27:36Speaker 1: so so this sounds like it was an option, but
- 27:39Speaker 1: you really wanted it. Yeah, the finances needed to just
- 27:41Speaker 1: upgrade a little bit. Yeah, yeah, that's what we were
- 27:43Speaker 1: looking at. Um. But but yeah, and then two seasons later,
- 27:48Speaker 1: that's when they called me and says says, you want
- 27:49Speaker 1: to come on the show. I'm like hell yeah. And
- 27:52Speaker 1: then did you have to audition that second time when
- 27:53Speaker 1: they called you again? Or no? I just want to
- 27:55Speaker 1: trade into workshops. What so okay, Now tell me where
- 27:59Speaker 1: were you that? What was going on? Yeah? I just
- 28:02Speaker 1: went straight into work shots and I was we was
- 28:07Speaker 1: in New York. Then for me back to where I
- 28:10Speaker 1: lied to go, excuse me a little messy. I went
- 28:16Speaker 1: right back to New York where I lied to the audition,
- 28:19Speaker 1: and then that's it. We're and I've been on the
- 28:23Speaker 1: show for seven seasons broken now and so funny. Everyone
- 28:34Speaker 1: you mentioned I've known since I was like twenty one.
- 28:37Speaker 1: I know now very well. Now now did an episode
- 28:40Speaker 1: of beating Will broke with like eggs and tacos. Yeah,
- 28:45Speaker 1: it was actually pretty good because he used real butter.
- 28:47Speaker 1: I didn't have never used real butter until now. It's delicious,
- 28:52Speaker 1: he said, Ill, no, it's good. It was really good.
- 28:55Speaker 1: I was surprised, I promise you. I don't know if
- 28:58Speaker 1: it was as good as this dish though, Oh yeah,
- 29:00Speaker 1: nothing's as good as this. This is this is what
- 29:02Speaker 1: got me think back in the day. So, can you
- 29:04Speaker 1: tell us anything behind the scenes of walling out that
- 29:06Speaker 1: would be juicy? Um? Ain't just like, ain't not really juicy.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Everything goes on on stage, well, they do the workshops
- 29:15Speaker 1: there's no like free. Nobody spills the tea on what
- 29:18Speaker 1: they're gonna say about anybody else before people close to
- 29:22Speaker 1: the best yep. And then when it's sound that yeah,
- 29:25Speaker 1: we h, So who's your favorite cash member? Do you see? Really?
- 29:32Speaker 1: No favorite? Hands down? Why is because it's funny or
- 29:36Speaker 1: is it? It's like off cameras just like me, Like
- 29:39Speaker 1: we're the same working person, his physical comedy, him just
- 29:44Speaker 1: being bold and daring, don't give two ships about what
- 29:47Speaker 1: somebody says about him. That's me. So when we link
- 29:50Speaker 1: and we talked outside of wailing out gets it. He's
- 29:53Speaker 1: like my little person in the mind like yeah, so
- 29:56Speaker 1: we're just fun. It's just fun. What advice would you
- 29:58Speaker 1: give to someone that's for suing comedy that's pursuing because
- 30:02Speaker 1: even pursuing being an influencer or pursuing being a mainstream
- 30:08Speaker 1: on television, your journey wasn't short at all. It seemed
- 30:12Speaker 1: like it was a a a roller coaster a little bit.
- 30:18Speaker 1: My advice I would give to any upcoming comedian or
- 30:21Speaker 1: any actor actress, Um, don't give up. You know, you
- 30:24Speaker 1: gotta be consistent and you gotta go with the punches.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Everything is not gonna always go so smooth. It's gonna
- 30:31Speaker 1: be obstacles in a way. It's gonna be tunnels, it's
- 30:33Speaker 1: gonna be roller coaster. This is gonna be I always say,
- 30:36Speaker 1: if I don't need five and seventy and eighty five,
- 30:39Speaker 1: whatever it is, it's just so crowded, take those back roads.
- 30:43Speaker 1: Because sometimes when you take those back roads, you could listen,
- 30:45Speaker 1: you could hear, you could focus, and your blessing is right, dear,
- 30:48Speaker 1: you just gotta keep going. We like to go off
- 30:49Speaker 1: those exits and we like to go to quick trip
- 30:51Speaker 1: and sit out and vibe out. No, sometimes God want
- 30:54Speaker 1: you to keep going, so don't give up. You know,
- 30:56Speaker 1: just wow, you never made traffics sound so good, Like
- 31:00Speaker 1: traffing just sounded amazing to me. I'm like, it doesn't
- 31:03Speaker 1: sound that. So we just want to go where anybody
- 31:05Speaker 1: who's going, and sometimes okay to go take those back roads.
- 31:08Speaker 1: I grew up in South Carolina too, so when I
- 31:10Speaker 1: used to see all those back roads, sometimes blue back
- 31:12Speaker 1: roads was just you and God, you know, you speaking
- 31:15Speaker 1: and you're trying to tell him what you want. Its
- 31:17Speaker 1: crowding you. On five, did you ever put a cap
- 31:21Speaker 1: in your career? Like if I don't make it in
- 31:22Speaker 1: five years or ten years or three years, I'm gonna
- 31:26Speaker 1: become a lawyer or something. I've never put anything anywhere.
- 31:29Speaker 1: I just let God leave because you know, I'm supposed
- 31:31Speaker 1: to be here no else. And then when you transitioned
- 31:34Speaker 1: out of work, when you got fired and you're now
- 31:39Speaker 1: making five dollars a month on Instagram, did you cut
- 31:42Speaker 1: your overhead so you can focus on pursuing your craft
- 31:46Speaker 1: or like, how did you survive during that time because
- 31:48Speaker 1: obviously Instagram wasn't paying you that much. Um, it was
- 31:52Speaker 1: more of just me, just that's all I had. Of course,
- 31:55Speaker 1: you have your parents who help you, and you know, um, guys,
- 31:59Speaker 1: who I that's like Hella two and it all. It
- 32:02Speaker 1: was three own and all the spell of light, yell
- 32:04Speaker 1: of Phombio. But it was more for me, just like
- 32:07Speaker 1: I don't have no fair familiar yott. I got fired
- 32:09Speaker 1: from that. I got fired from every job going up McDonald's,
- 32:12Speaker 1: GJ Max, Dollar Tree, Southcos Music Group, TJ Max, I
- 32:16Speaker 1: mean everywhere you can think about in the black hell. Um,
- 32:20Speaker 1: So for me, I'm like I didn't got fired for
- 32:22Speaker 1: so many jobs. I know I was worth for nobody
- 32:24Speaker 1: but myself you know. So I think for me it
- 32:27Speaker 1: was more of just like I don't care if its
- 32:29Speaker 1: found at all, you're gonna slit that, we're gonna flip that,
- 32:31Speaker 1: and then I'm gonna keep being consistent. And after that,
- 32:34Speaker 1: Fancy carn and they were like, hey, I need to
- 32:36Speaker 1: come to l A. I'm do that for Rihanna, you know.
- 32:39Speaker 1: You know. So it's things that started happening out of nowhere,
