- 0:00Hello there. My name is Tyler Griffin and
- 0:03this is Scripture Study Insights by Scripture Central.
- 0:06Today, Easter as we contemplate this most important week of all
- 0:14weeks in the history of eternity.
- 0:16As far as as our salvation is concerned, there are 1,000,000
- 0:21directions we could we could take our study insights.
- 0:28I wanted to focus in today on a couple of things #1 amplifying
- 0:35what the scriptures say about the Infinite Atonement of Jesus
- 0:39Christ, specifically the Book of Mormon because of this year's
- 0:44Come Follow Me curriculum. And secondly, to amplify what
- 0:49our prophets, our modern prophets, have said about the
- 0:53Infinite Atonement of Jesus Christ.
- 0:56There are a lot of theories, there are a lot of ideas
- 1:00circulating out there about different aspects of what Jesus
- 1:05Christ accomplished through His infinite Atonement.
- 1:08But it's important to stay rooted in what the Lord has said
- 1:13through prophets, both both ancient as well as modern.
- 1:19To to illustrate that section one of the Doctrine and
- 1:23Covenants, the the preface to the whole Doctrine and
- 1:26Covenants. Listen to these words in verse
- 1:2814 The Savior said, and the arm of the Lord shall be revealed.
- 1:33And the day cometh that they who will not hear the voice of the
- 1:37Lord, neither the voice of His servants, neither give heed to
- 1:42the words of the prophets and apostles, shall be cut off from
- 1:47among the people. And then towards the end of
- 1:50section One He gives that famous statement.
- 1:52What I, the Lord, have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not
- 1:55myself. And though the heavens and the
- 1:57earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be
- 2:01fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of My
- 2:04servants. It is the same.
- 2:07So it's this, this beautiful invitation for us to not just
- 2:11see the prophetic voice as another option in a sea of
- 2:17people, in a chorus of many voices telling us what to think
- 2:21or how to believe or how to worship, but rather amplifying
- 2:25that voice of the prophets and the apostles that God has chosen
- 2:30for our day. So that's what we're going to to
- 2:34do as we explore some principles to study this week of Easter.
- 2:42Now, initially we need to talk about the the word itself, the
- 2:50Atonement of Jesus Christ. It's many of you have already
- 2:56seen this. You already understand this, but
- 2:59making sure we're all on the same page in English, When you
- 3:03put MENT as a suffix to a word, the dictionary definition of of
- 3:11MENT is the process or product of whatever came before.
- 3:22So in this case it was William Tyndale who is credited with
- 3:26coining this new word when he he comes to the Greek word
- 3:31cataloguay. And most of the time in English
- 3:35it got translated as reconciliation.
- 3:38But I love the fact that William Tyndale took it one step further
- 3:42and created this brand new word from 2 English words at 1.
- 3:48So it's the process or product whereby we come to be at one
- 3:55with God, with Jesus Christ and ultimately with our loved ones
- 4:01with each other. He is all about this.
- 4:05Root word of of the word atonement is 1.
- 4:10William Tyndale probably wouldn't have pronounced this
- 4:13atonement. It would have been at onement
- 4:15for him because it's all about unity and oneness and coming
- 4:20together and unifying. So today, as we open up the
- 4:23scriptures in the Book of Mormon and look for what?
- 4:28What can we gain from a deeper understanding and appreciation
- 4:34for the infinite Atonement of Jesus Christ, and what
- 4:38difference will that make in our life moving forward?
- 4:41That's the question we want to keep at the forefront.
- 4:45And it's important to remember President Nelson has emphasized
- 4:49this We don't talk about the Atonement as if it's this
- 4:55isolated entity unto itself. The Atonement doesn't heal
- 5:02anyone. The Atonement doesn't forgive.
- 5:05The Atonement doesn't save. The Atonement is the infinite
- 5:12sacrifice that Jesus Christ performed for us.
- 5:17Thus, it's Jesus Christ who saves through the power of His
- 5:22Atonement. It's Jesus Christ who heals, who
- 5:25delivers, who redeems through the means of performing His
- 5:32infinite Atonement. So it's important to remember as
- 5:36we hearken to the words of our living prophets that we amplify
- 5:40the fact that it is the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
- 5:45It's never an isolated entity unto itself.
- 5:50Now the other thing to mention before we dive into some
- 5:53scriptures is the reality that sometimes we overlook the
- 5:59significance of Easter. In April 2023 General
- 6:04Conference, there were multiple general authorities and leaders
- 6:08of the church who talked about the significance of Easter
- 6:13regarding our our worship and our understanding of the gospel.
- 6:19NT Wright, a New Testament scholar was quoted a couple of
- 6:23times talking about the significance of those chapters
- 6:29in the Bible that refer to the week of the atoning sacrifice.
- 6:34And his point is, is beautifully taken that sometimes in
- 6:38Christianity we put so much emphasis on Christmas and then
- 6:42Easter is just this little minor holiday in the spring when in
- 6:47reality he said if you take away Christmas you only lose 4
- 6:53chapters, Matthew one and two, and Luke 1:00 and 2:00.
- 6:57But if you take away the week of the atoning sacrifice, you lose
- 7:0235 to 40% of your New Testament Gospels.
- 7:08In in the Gospel of John you've got 7-8 chapters that are
- 7:15focused on the last 24 hours of Jesus Christ and his suffering
- 7:21and then his his ultimate resurrection.
- 7:25It is. It is the the main event of
- 7:29Christ's life, the miracles, the parables and His teachings, even
- 7:35going back to His baptism, his temptations, and then going all
- 7:38the way back to His birth and all of his experiences there.
- 7:42All of those are pointing forward to the significance of
- 7:48why He was born on this earth, and it was to make intercession
- 7:55or to make His infinite atonement for us.
- 7:59So that's important to remember as you, you celebrate this week
- 8:02that this, this should be more glorious, this should be more
- 8:06triumphant than any other time of the year for us this Easter
- 8:12season because of what Jesus Christ overcame for us through
- 8:17the events of His atoning sacrifice.
- 8:20And with that, let's dive in. So instead of doing a a lesson
- 8:26on the Infinite Atonement, instead of covering concepts
- 8:30that other people have have shared regarding the Infinite
- 8:35Atonement, I wanted to do something a little different.
- 8:39Following the example of President Dallon H Oakes, when
- 8:44he gave his great talk that we believe the words of Christ and
- 8:48then he read a whole bunch of scriptures, I want to do that
- 8:54scriptures from the Book of Mormon that add beautiful
- 8:58insight and depth to what the Bible teaches regarding the
- 9:04infinite Atonement of Jesus Christ.
- 9:07So we begin in second Nephi Chapter 9 that incredible talk
- 9:14given by Jacob to the people after he had read to them two
- 9:18chapters from Isaiah. He says this.
- 9:22Yeah, I know that ye know that in the body he shall show
- 9:26himself unto those at Jerusalem from whence we came.
- 9:29For it is expedient that it should be among them.
- 9:34For it behooveth the great Creator, that he suffereth
- 9:36himself to become subject unto man in the flesh and die for all
- 9:43men, that all men might become subject unto him.
- 9:49Then moving on, in verse seven he says, Wherefore it must needs
- 9:52be and infinite atonement, save it should be an infinite
- 9:57atonement. This corruption could not put on
- 10:00incorruption. Wherefore the first judgement
- 10:03which came upon man must needs have remained to an endless
- 10:06duration, And if so, this flesh must have laid down to rot and
- 10:11to crumble to its mother earth, to rise no more.
- 10:15And then he goes on to say, well, if your flesh will rise no
- 10:19more than what happens to your spirit?
- 10:21And he tells us in verse 8 that our spirit would become subject
- 10:25to that Angel who fell from before the presence of the
- 10:28eternal God, and become the devil to rise no more.
- 10:34Hence our absolute need for an infinite atonement to help us
- 10:39overcome the most important things that make us separated
- 10:44from God, our physical and our spiritual death.
- 10:47Jacob describes that in verse 10.
- 10:49Oh how great the goodness of our God who prepareth away for our
- 10:53escape from the grasp of this awful monster.
- 10:56Yeah, that monster. Death and hell, which I call the
- 11:00death of the body and also the death of the spirit.
- 11:03But there's more he goes on in describing in verse 21.
- 11:07And he cometh into the world that he may save all men if they
- 11:12will hearken unto his voice. Here we go again.
- 11:17He's saying salvation is is hinged on our ability and
- 11:24willingness and using our agency to hearken to his voice the
- 11:29things that he teaches us personally, directly as well as
- 11:34through his prophets, through his chosen servants.
- 11:38So going on, he says, for behold, he suffereth the pains
- 11:43of all men. Yeah, the pains of every living
- 11:48creature, both men, women and children, who belong to the
- 11:53family of Adam. And he suffereth this, that the
- 11:57resurrection might pass upon all men, that all might stand before
- 12:02him at the Great and Judgement Day.
- 12:05Now this is a this is a beautiful place to pause and and
- 12:11reflect on the significance of mortal life, the significance of
- 12:15our physical bodies, the significance of the the creation
- 12:20of the earth, and the fall that brought about these conditions
- 12:23in which we live, which then leads to the need for an
- 12:26infinite atonement. Referring back to NT Wright,
- 12:32this New Testament scholar who has been quoted in General
- 12:35Conference multiple times, he wrote a book called Surprised by
- 12:40Hope. And in that book he teaches this
- 12:44beautiful doctrine that aligns beautifully with the teachings
- 12:49of the prophets in the Book of Mormon as well as the Prophet
- 12:53Joseph Smith and our modern prophets.
- 12:56He talks about this concept of often in in Christianity as a
- 13:00whole, people refer to the the resurrection as this event where
- 13:08Jesus Christ overcomes death and then he goes off to heaven and
- 13:12someday he'll take us from this fallen earth and take us to
- 13:18heaven to live with him there and NT Wright says that that
- 13:23goes against everything the New Testament is teaching about the
- 13:27mission of Jesus Christ. Even in his His the Lord's
- 13:32Prayer in the Sermon on the Mount he talks about the Kingdom
- 13:36coming to this earth. The the beautiful point of the
- 13:43resurrection of Jesus Christ is that it matters what we do in
- 13:50our physical bodies in this fallen mortal world, because God
- 13:56is not intending to one day take us away from this earth and ship
- 14:02us off to heaven to live with Him there.
- 14:06God is bringing heaven here. He is going to make Earth an
- 14:12outpost of the Divine for those who will fully embrace and
- 14:18accept the Savior's Infinite Atonement for us.
- 14:24God is coming here. This will become heavenly.
- 14:29Consequently, as as you celebrate Easter this week, pay
- 14:34attention to the people around you, pay attention to the
- 14:38beautiful creation around you, and remember that the glorious
- 14:43promise of the resurrection of Jesus Christ is a reassurance
- 14:48that all of these things actually matter, that we're
- 14:52engaging with and experiencing here in mortality.
- 14:55And Christ will perfect this earth, just like Christ will
- 15:01perfect our bodies, our minds, our souls, He He will perfect
- 15:08all unrighteousness and impurity and make us clean and make us
- 15:15heavenly. That's what the covenant path is
- 15:19all about, isn't just trying to get somewhere to get to heaven.
- 15:25The covenant path is about building this relationship with
- 15:29Jesus Christ and walking with Him as He helps us become more
- 15:33like him until that glorious day when He will bring us into the
- 15:38presence of the Father to be judged gratefully by the Savior
- 15:43himself. And then we become one with
- 15:48them, as Jesus talks about in his intercessory prayer that as
- 15:52they are one, we can become one with each other and with them.
- 15:57It's this beautiful promise of the coming glory of heaven to
- 16:03the earth for all of us in resurrected bodies, so that we
- 16:07don't have to go down to the grave to rise no more, or have
- 16:12our spirits become subject to the devil to rise no more.
- 16:17The next one that directly refers to it.
- 16:19Mosiah, chapter 3, verse seven. And lo, he shall suffer
- 16:24temptations and pain of body, hunger, thirst, and fatigue,
- 16:28even more than man can suffer, except it be unto death.
- 16:33For behold, blood cometh from every poor, so great shall be
- 16:38his anguish for the wickedness and abominations of his people.
- 16:42So you see that sometimes we refer to the infinite Atonement
- 16:46of Jesus Christ is only helping us overcome death and hell, that
- 16:52awful monster. But there's so much more
- 16:54involved beyond the those most important two elements that he
- 17:01he suffered temptations. In other words, when you're
- 17:06suffering temptation, don't assume that that the Savior is
- 17:10up in heaven saying, oh, I I hope that you do OK with that.
- 17:15I'm going to help you with your death and overcoming sin and
- 17:20hell, but I can't help you with temptation.
- 17:23That is not the God we worship. The God we worship knows how to
- 17:28help us, how to run to us or sucker to us in whatever it is
- 17:33that we're experiencing as an effect of the fall of Adam and
- 17:37Eve. And Temptations is one of those.
- 17:41What an amazing power it is, brothers and sisters, when
- 17:44you're in the face of temptation, to not be a victim
- 17:47of that temptation, but to rather call upon the power of
- 17:52the Savior's infinite grace that is offered to us through by way
- 17:58of His infinite atonement in our behalf.
- 18:01To call upon His name, to use His name in the moment of
- 18:06temptation and to plead for deliverance.
- 18:09There is a power there that we don't need to just look at it as
- 18:14a solution to our problems. It can be a help to prevent sin
- 18:20as we're going through temptation.
- 18:22Same thing with pain of body, hunger, thirst and fatigue.
- 18:26All of these these mortal elements that we experience as
- 18:31the effects of the fall of Adam and Eve.
- 18:33He's able to succor us and help us, which doesn't mean he always
- 18:38takes it away. Often it means he strengthens us
- 18:42so that as we are experiencing those things, we don't just go
- 18:46through them. We don't just endure them and
- 18:48survive them, but we actually grow through them.
- 18:53We actually learn more empathy, more compassion for others so
- 19:00that we can become more like Jesus Christ in the way we treat
- 19:04each other and the way we treat even ourselves with with more
- 19:09kindness as we go through these these adversities and
- 19:12afflictions. In chapter 5, verse seven at the
- 19:17end of King Benjamin's speech, I love how he talks about the
- 19:21outcome, the fruit of the infinite atonement.
- 19:25Because keep in mind there's three things, 3 levels you could
- 19:29look at, kind of like scripture study.
- 19:32There's the underlying foundation that which undergirds
- 19:37the Infinite Atonement, the the need for it, the historical
- 19:40setting, all of the the rationale for why we even need
- 19:47Jesus Christ to come and be born and live a perfect life and
- 19:50perform the Infinite Atonement in the 1st place.
- 19:53And then the second layer is the actual events of the Atonement
- 19:58itself. What did Jesus do?
- 20:02What did he experience? What?
- 20:04What elements of his suffering occurred?
- 20:08And then the third level is therefore what?
- 20:15What are the fruits that that come from his suffering?
- 20:20How is it that Isaiah could say by his stripes we are healed?
- 20:27How does that work? I don't know.
- 20:31I I know this. I know it works.
- 20:36I know that we are benefited because of Christ's suffering.
- 20:40I don't know all of the mechanics and all of the the
- 20:43eternal implications of why it works or even how it works.
- 20:49But I know it works from words of the prophets in the
- 20:52scriptures and from living prophets today.
- 20:56We see the fruits of His suffering everywhere we look.
- 21:00So here's one of the the major fruits that flow from his
- 21:06infinite suffering. Mosiah 5 verse seven.
- 21:09And now because of the covenant which you have made, you shall
- 21:12be called the children of Christ.
- 21:16You're now a child of the covenant, a child of Christ, his
- 21:22sons and his daughters. For behold this day he hath
- 21:27spiritually begotten you. For you see that your hearts are
- 21:32changed through faith on his name.
- 21:33Therefore you are born of him, and have become his sons and his
- 21:38daughters. And as any child who's given a
- 21:41new life and born into a family, that that child takes upon him
- 21:48or herself the name of the family.
- 21:51As we're born into the covenant, we also take upon us the name of
- 21:56Christ. We don't just take His name upon
- 22:00us, but we have the capacity now to grow up to become like Him
- 22:05through the power of His infinite Atonement.
- 22:08And you'll notice it's a process as well as a product.
- 22:15Jesus Christ works with us through this long process to
- 22:20create an at one product. In the end, that's the that's
- 22:27the end goal. Skipping over to Alma 34, verse
- 22:318 is where we'll start here and now.
- 22:35Behold, I will testify unto you of myself that these things are
- 22:38true. Behold, I say to you that I do
- 22:41know that Christ shall come among the children of men to
- 22:45take upon him the transgressions of his people.
- 22:48Did you catch that? Christ will come.
- 22:50So the the beauty of his birth is amazing.
- 22:54We're not trying to take away anything from Christmas.
- 22:57Keep loving Christmas with all that it that it brings of of joy
- 23:03and light and love into the world that is wonderful.
- 23:06Keep all of that there. The point being, then let's add
- 23:10to it this glorious culmination of why he was even born in the
- 23:171st place. He came into the world among the
- 23:21children of men. Why to take upon him the
- 23:25transgressions of his people, that he shall atone for the sins
- 23:30of the world? For the Lord God hath spoken it.
- 23:33For it is expedient that an atonement should be made, for
- 23:36according to the great plan of the eternal God there must be an
- 23:39atonement made, or else all all mankind must unavoidably perish.
- 23:43Yeah, all are hardened, all are fallen, and are lost, and must
- 23:48must perish, except to be through the atonement.
- 23:52Which is it is expedient, should be made.
- 23:56So it's it's again, you can't get very far in the Book of
- 23:59Mormon before it reminds you of our absolute and utter
- 24:04dependence upon Jesus Christ, our need for access to His
- 24:09infinite atonement in our behalf.
- 24:11If you turn the page over, verse 15 says, And thus he shall bring
- 24:15salvation to all those who shall believe on His name, this being
- 24:19the intent of this last sacrifice, to bring about the
- 24:23bowels of mercy which overpowers justice, and then down to verse
- 24:2616 And thus mercy can satisfy the demands of justice and
- 24:30encircles them in the arms of safety.
- 24:34It's my prayer that we will all put more emphasis on what Jesus
- 24:41Christ did for us as we go through this week of the atoning
- 24:46sacrifice this year that will focus on the mercy of God, the
- 24:51arms of of His safety that He offers to encircle us in.
- 24:59Because he went through that infinite atonement all alone, we
- 25:05don't ever have to be isolated or left alone in any of the
- 25:10mortal conditions, whether it be pain, sickness, affliction or
- 25:13temptation or sin needing to be forgiven or death needing to be
- 25:19resurrected. Ultimately, then we jump over to
- 25:233rd Nephi, where Jesus Christ himself is talking about what he
- 25:32accomplished in 3rd Nephi 27. When he gives his description of
- 25:39what the gospel of Jesus Christ is from his own perspective,
- 25:44nobody's interpreting it for us. It's Jesus telling us This is my
- 25:47gospel, and here's what he says. Chapter 27 verse 13 Behold, I
- 25:52have given unto you my gospel, and this is the gospel which I
- 25:56have given unto you, that I came into the world.
- 26:01There's the glorious birth to do the will of my Father, because
- 26:07my Father sent me, and my Father sent me, that I might be lifted
- 26:11up upon the cross. And after that I had been lifted
- 26:14up upon the cross, that I might draw all men unto me.
- 26:19That as I have been lifted up by men, Even so should men be
- 26:22lifted up by the Father to stand before me, to be judged of their
- 26:27works, whether they be good or whether they be evil.
- 26:31The incredible reality here is Jesus Christ was already judged
- 26:36of your works and of my works, and He was found guilty and He
- 26:41was punished to the full extent of the law for us.
- 26:43He who had done no wrong, He who deserves 0 punishment, suffers
- 26:48infinite punishment, and if infinite agonies for us.
- 26:54So those are just a handful of beautiful scriptures in the Book
- 27:01of Mormon that teach us, give us more depth, more breadth, more
- 27:06angles to look at the Savior's infinite atonement in our behalf
- 27:12that it doesn't take away from or compete with what we read in
- 27:16the Bible. The Book of Mormon is there to
- 27:19complement and to uphold and to be a joint witness.
- 27:23If to become at 1:00, if you will, there there's an AT
- 27:29onement here between the Book of Mormon and the Bible.
- 27:32And then we would add the Doctrine and Covenants in the
- 27:34Pearl of Great Price. They're all one in our hand to
- 27:38testify of these eternal truths. Now I mentioned at the beginning
- 27:44that I have two scripture study perspectives I wanted to really
- 27:50focus, focus on for this particular set of concepts.
- 27:56The first being to look at what the scriptures say about
- 28:00teachings and the second was to amplify and magnify what are
- 28:05living prophets have said about the Infinite Atonement of Jesus
- 28:09Christ. And there are thousands of
- 28:13quotes from General Conference and in books and in other talks
- 28:18given by by leaders of the Church, especially by prophets
- 28:23and apostles. I wanted to share a couple of
- 28:27insights from our First Presidency and from President
- 28:33Holland, our current prophets and apostles, on things that
- 28:37they have shared regarding this attribute of the Savior's
- 28:42infinite atonement of His ability and His empathy for us
- 28:49in not just overcoming sin and death, which we've said is the
- 28:53biggest part that the awful monster, death and hell, but in
- 28:58some of those often overlooked and forgotten parts of His
- 29:03suffering that have a huge impact on our life regarding our
- 29:07pains, our sicknesses, our afflictions.
- 29:10So the first one I want to share comes from our prophet,
- 29:13President Russell M Nelson shared in the Christmas
- 29:19devotional 2023 called Come, Let Us adore Him, Listen to these
- 29:27beautiful words. During the past few months, I
- 29:30have learned a lot more about pain and it's refining
- 29:34influence. My heart has been drawn out to
- 29:39our Savior as I have tried to imagine the extent of His
- 29:45suffering. My mortal mind simply cannot
- 29:50comprehend how He took upon himself all the pains, all the
- 29:56sins, all the anguish, and all the afflictions of everyone who
- 30:02has ever lived. We Revere the babe of Bethlehem
- 30:06precisely because he later offered the incomprehensible
- 30:12infinite sacrifice in the Garden of Gethsemane and on the cross
- 30:17of Calvary. This offering redeems each of
- 30:23us, as we choose, to repent and follow him.
- 30:30Then, as his crowning act on earth, he rose from the tomb on
- 30:35the third day, granting each one of us the unprecedented blessing
- 30:43of resurrection and life. After death next.
- 30:50This comes from the talk by President Dylan H Oakes.
- 30:55Most scriptural accounts of the Atonement concern the Saviours
- 30:59breaking the bands of death and suffering for our sins.
- 31:05In his sermon, recorded in the Book of Mormon, Alma taught
- 31:09these fundamentals. But he also provided our
- 31:14clearest scriptural assurances that the Savior also experienced
- 31:19the pains and sicknesses and infirmities of his people.
- 31:27Alma described this part of the Savior's Atonement, And he shall
- 31:32go forth, suffering pains, and afflictions, and temptations of
- 31:38every kind, and this that the Word might be fulfilled, which
- 31:43saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his
- 31:49people. Think of it In the Savior's
- 31:54Atonement he suffered pains and afflictions and temptations of
- 32:01every kind. As President Boyd K Packer
- 32:05explained quote, he had no debt to pay.
- 32:10He had committed no wrong. Nevertheless, an accumulation of
- 32:15all of the guilt, the grief and sorrow, the pain and
- 32:19humiliation, all of the mental, emotional and physical torments
- 32:25known to man, he experienced them all.
- 32:30End of quote. This next quote from President
- 32:33Henry B Eyring. It will comfort us when we must
- 32:36wait in distress for the Savior's promise, relief that he
- 32:41knows from experience how to heal and help us.
- 32:48The Book of Mormon gives us the certain assurance of His power
- 32:53to comfort, and faith in that power will give us patience as
- 32:59we pray and work and wait for help.
- 33:06The Savior could have known how to succor us simply by
- 33:09revelation, but He chose to learn by His own personal
- 33:15experience. And finally, President Jeffrey R
- 33:19Holland. Now I speak very carefully, even
- 33:24reverently, of what may have been the most difficult moment
- 33:29in all of this solitary journey to atonement.
- 33:35I speak of those final moments for which Jesus must have been
- 33:41prepared intellectually and physically, but which he may not
- 33:46have fully anticipated emotionally and spiritually,
- 33:53that concluding descent into the paralyzing despair of divine
- 34:01withdrawal when he cries in ultimate loneliness.
- 34:08My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
- 34:19The loss of mortal support he had anticipated, But surely he
- 34:26had not apparently comprehended this, had he not said to his
- 34:32disciples, Behold, the hour has now come, that you shall be
- 34:37scattered every man to his own, and leave me alone.
- 34:43And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
- 34:48The Father hath not left me alone, for I do always those
- 34:53things that please Him. Indeed, it is my personal belief
- 34:59that in all of Christ's mortal ministry the Father may never
- 35:04have been closer to His Son than in these agonizing final moments
- 35:10of suffering. Nevertheless, that the supreme
- 35:15sacrifice of his Son might be as complete as it was voluntary and
- 35:22solitary, the Father briefly withdrew from Jesus the comfort
- 35:29of His Spirit, the support of His personal presence.
- 35:35It was required. Indeed, it was central to the
- 35:40significance of the Atonement that this perfect Son, who had
- 35:47never spoken I'll nor done wrong, nor touched an unclean
- 35:55thing. He had to know how the rest of
- 36:01humankind would feel us, the rest of us, when we did commit
- 36:07such sins. For his atonement to be infinite
- 36:13and eternal, he had to feel what it was like to die not only
- 36:19physically but spiritually, to sense what it was like to have
- 36:27the divine Spirit withdraw, leaving one feeling totally,
- 36:35abjectly, hopelessly alone. Why?
- 36:42So that you and I would never need to be left alone.
- 36:47We would always have His power to turn to and draw upon and
- 36:52access. There have been so many
- 36:55prophetic voices, so many prophetic visions of what Jesus
- 37:02Christ accomplished and what comes from His infinite
- 37:05suffering and his His atonement, that we have a veritable sea of
- 37:10witnesses, a flood of witnesses out there.
- 37:14And it's my hope that this week, as you individually or
- 37:20collectively prepare to celebrate Easter and that
- 37:23glorious resurrection, that you won't have it be just a little
- 37:29holiday with treats on Sunday morning.
- 37:32But rather that it will be a week where you immerse yourself
- 37:36in the scriptures and the words and the testimonies of God's
- 37:41prophets, testifying of these incredible events in King
- 37:47Benjamin's words. How knoweth a man the master
- 37:52whom he has not served, and who is a stranger unto him, and who
- 37:58is far from the thoughts and the intents of his heart?
- 38:01Hopefully this week the Lord Jesus Christ will not be a
- 38:06stranger to any of us, nor far from the thoughts and the
- 38:10intents of our heart. Hopefully this week of all the
- 38:14weeks of the calendar year, we can be thinking of him every day
- 38:20and pondering what he was going through, leading up to his
- 38:26infinite atonement that He offered to us in Gethsemane
- 38:31through the trials and onto the cross of Calvary and into the
- 38:36tomb, to then be gloriously resurrected on Easter morning
- 38:43and closing. I want to add my testimony to
- 38:48that sea of witnesses that exists.
- 38:53I know that Jesus Christ was born, that He lived a perfect
- 38:58life, that He taught, He healed everything in His life, pointed
- 39:04people, and us forward to His great and last sacrifice.
- 39:09I know that He took upon himself my sins, my death, my mortal
- 39:17weaknesses, all of the effects of the fall that I experience
- 39:22and that you experience. And I know that He rose
- 39:26triumphant from the grave on that first Easter morn.
- 39:30And He sits enthroned in Yonder heavens on the right hand of the
- 39:34Father. And He is still guiding His
- 39:39church and leading people who are willing to listen to Him,
- 39:45both collectively through the voices of His prophets and
- 39:49individually through revelation that we're willing and able to
- 39:53receive. And I know that He's doing this
- 39:57because of His infinite love for us that came because of His
- 40:03infinite suffering for us. I love him with all my heart,
- 40:11and I leave that with you. In the name of Jesus Christ,
- 40:14Amen. Know that you're loved.
