- 0:04Speaker 1: You're tuned to The Sean O'Connell Show for the Murdoch
- 0:07Speaker 1: Chevrolet Studio of ESPN 700 and 92.1 FM. Welcome back
- 0:28Speaker 1: to the Sean O'Connell Show. Welcome in the number one
- 0:30Speaker 1: handicapper in the business, Lee Sterling, Paramount Sports, friend of
- 0:34Speaker 1: the show to give us picks for the weekend.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Lee, welcome back. How are you, sir?
- 0:40Speaker 3: I'm great. Can't complain.
- 0:41Speaker 4: I'm close to you.
- 0:42Speaker 3: I'm in Park City for the weekend.
- 0:44Speaker 4: My niece is getting married.
- 0:46Speaker 3: In Salt Lake City, so why not come out here
- 0:49Speaker 3: and play a little golf and get relaxed and.
- 0:54Speaker 4: Take in, I might even take in that Utah State game.
- 0:57Speaker 2: On Saturday night. Love it.
- 0:58Speaker 1: It's a beautiful day, as I'm sure you're aware, and
- 1:01Speaker 1: hopefully it stays that way for the weekend.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Let's get right to it. You just mentioned Utah State.
- 1:06Speaker 1: The Aggies coming off a blanking by the University of Utah,
- 1:10Speaker 1: but they are three-point favorites against Troy.
- 1:13Speaker 2: How does it play out?
- 1:15Speaker 3: Well, you better like defense.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Cause I don't, I don't think you're going to see
- 1:18Speaker 4: much scoring Troy. They just don't have any playmakers.
- 1:21Speaker 3: I mean, they were winning the war at the line
- 1:23Speaker 3: of scrimmage, believe it or not against Missouri, but penalties
- 1:26Speaker 3: hurt them. They just couldn't come up with that one play,
- 1:30Speaker 3: you know, when, when they were within the touchdown, Utah state,
- 1:34Speaker 3: we know about their struggles. Quarterback play hasn't been good.
- 1:37Speaker 3: But I think jumping down in class, it's like when
- 1:40Speaker 3: you go to a horse race and you steer a horse,
- 1:43Speaker 3: it's been losing, but he's been going up against the
- 1:45Speaker 3: top horses. Then he comes back down.
- 1:47Speaker 4: He might be able to do the job and win.
- 1:50Speaker 3: It's not going to be pretty defensive struggle.
- 1:53Speaker 4: I like Utah state here, 10, six.
- 1:57Speaker 2: A big game.
- 1:57Speaker 1: We were just talking about this, you know, potential communications
- 2:00Speaker 1: interruption while the president is moving in or out of
- 2:02Speaker 1: the stadium and Texas and Tennessee are both going to
- 2:05Speaker 1: have to prepare for it.
- 2:06Speaker 2: You got game day, the whole.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Shebang, the big circus, Texas, obviously they've, they've already tested
- 2:12Speaker 1: themselves against the elite competition. Once this year, victory against
- 2:15Speaker 1: Ohio state, they are five and a half point favorites
- 2:18Speaker 1: at Neyland stadium. That's a lot to cover in a
- 2:22Speaker 1: tough environment.
- 2:24Speaker 3: It is. And I was originally thinking Texas might be
- 2:28Speaker 3: the play. They got talent galore.
- 2:30Speaker 4: But let's look at what they do on the road.
- 2:32Speaker 3: They go to Ohio State last year, lose 14-7. Okay,
- 2:35Speaker 3: not the worst loss. Then they go to Florida, who
- 2:38Speaker 3: was bad last year, lost 29-21 and got dominated. They
- 2:42Speaker 3: get blown out at Georgia 35, 10. And then the
- 2:47Speaker 3: last two games they're playing sec bottom feeders on the road,
- 2:51Speaker 3: Mississippi state and Kentucky, they had to force overtime and
- 2:55Speaker 3: win the game in overtime. Five straight bad performances on
- 3:00Speaker 3: the road here. I know they came back against Ohio State,
- 3:02Speaker 3: but maybe Ohio State was a little overrated. I watched
- 3:06Speaker 3: a tape on Tennessee, and I think their offensive.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Line is stout.
- 3:11Speaker 3: They got some big boys that like to mix it up,
- 3:13Speaker 3: and you got to move some big boys on the
- 3:15Speaker 3: Texas defensive line. And they got some Ed Rushers who
- 3:19Speaker 3: they brought in through.
- 3:20Speaker 4: The portal who I think are good here.
- 3:22Speaker 3: I think the wrong team is favored. Tennessee has not
- 3:24Speaker 3: beaten a number one team since 1985.
- 3:27Speaker 4: They're going to do it again.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Tennessee straight up 28, 27.
- 3:32Speaker 1: That would be an upset. That'll throw college football on
- 3:35Speaker 1: its head.
- 3:35Speaker 2: I love that.
- 3:36Speaker 1: We need a little chaos this weekend and all these
- 3:39Speaker 1: ranked versus ranked matchups. Another one near and dear to
- 3:42Speaker 1: the former PAC 12 fans hearts. Oregon is three point
- 3:47Speaker 1: favorites against USC. I'm actually going to Southern California this
- 3:52Speaker 1: This weekend, I'm debating on whether or not I want
- 3:54Speaker 1: to make the trip to the Coliseum and watch this
- 3:57Speaker 1: one in person. The Ducks, obviously, they've had their warts.
- 4:00Speaker 1: They've had their problems and a loss to Oklahoma State.
- 4:03Speaker 1: USC has looked better than a lot of people gave
- 4:05Speaker 1: them credit for, but still, Oregon is a favorite.
- 4:08Speaker 2: How do you see it?
- 4:09Speaker 3: Yep.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Yeah, Oregon's underperformed. Let's just be honest.
- 4:12Speaker 4: They got a bunch of four and five stars. Got
- 4:15Speaker 4: to play better. I think most of it's because.
- 4:16Speaker 3: They have new coordinators. Sometimes it takes half a season,
- 4:20Speaker 3: a season for everyone to figure out their roles. All
- 4:23Speaker 3: it takes is one guy to make a mess up.
- 4:25Speaker 3: And that's what's happening right now, both on offense and
- 4:28Speaker 3: defense for Oregon with new coordinators. So I think they're
- 4:31Speaker 3: going to get closer and closer to being a top team,
- 4:34Speaker 3: but they got to do it quick. They lose here
- 4:36Speaker 3: and they're out. USC's offense is scary good. Ducks have
- 4:41Speaker 3: already faced a quarterback probably that's going to go in
- 4:43Speaker 3: the first round, a Drew Mestemaker from Oklahoma State. The
- 4:48Speaker 3: problem and usually your weakest link is what costs you
- 4:50Speaker 3: the game.
- 4:51Speaker 4: And I think that's the USC defense.
- 4:53Speaker 3: They give up 30 points to Louisiana Lafayette, 35 points
- 4:58Speaker 3: and 460 yards to Rutgers, and.
- 5:01Speaker 4: 26 points to San Jose State here.
- 5:03Speaker 3: I think it's a Ducks call here. Ducks here, 38-28.
- 5:07Speaker 1: All right, we'll save the best for last with this
- 5:09Speaker 1: Utah-Iowa State game. Jumping into the NFL, the Saints are
- 5:13Speaker 1: three-point favorites against a surprise 2-0 Raiders team.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Can Shuck beat Cousins?
- 5:21Speaker 3: He can, but remember this Kirk cousins faces defense twice
- 5:25Speaker 3: last year. So he knows what they're going to, they're
- 5:27Speaker 3: going to come up with. And I think that's an
- 5:29Speaker 3: advantage here. I think the saints are gonna have to
- 5:32Speaker 3: run the ball better if they want to have a
- 5:33Speaker 3: chance you see with a better coach. I mean, the
- 5:36Speaker 3: coaching for the Raiders has been horrific for the last decade.
- 5:39Speaker 3: I think they found their guy here. I think they're
- 5:41Speaker 3: going to get the run game going. Even special teams
- 5:44Speaker 3: might be an advantage. I think the wrong team's favorite
- 5:46Speaker 3: here too. Raiders here Win straight up here, 24-20.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Your game of the week is Seahawks, who, of course,
- 5:55Speaker 1: are going to be playing a backup against the Commanders,
- 5:57Speaker 1: whose starting quarterback dislocated his elbow. So not the premier
- 6:01Speaker 1: matchup that the fans of either of these teams probably
- 6:04Speaker 1: expected when they saw this one on the schedule. The
- 6:07Speaker 1: defending Super Bowl champs are seven-point favorites in your game
- 6:10Speaker 1: of the week.
- 6:12Speaker 3: Yeah, and if they want to get it for free,
- 6:13Speaker 3: just call 800-400-9741. I think there's a clear right side.
- 6:17Speaker 3: So will the Seahawks blow them out, or can Marcus
- 6:20Speaker 3: Mariota keep it close or maybe pull off the shocker?
- 6:24Speaker 3: First five callers get it for free. Just call 800-400-9741
- 6:28Speaker 3: to get it for free. And what a role we've
- 6:31Speaker 3: been on here. Four straight winning weeks for our clients.
- 6:34Speaker 3: My biggest play of the year goes on Saturday. It's
- 6:37Speaker 3: a game no one's looking at. I think the line's
- 6:39Speaker 3: off by two or three touchdowns. So we've been waiting
- 6:43Speaker 3: for this game. Everything looks perfect.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Weather, the matchup, the injuries.
- 6:48Speaker 3: We're 74 and 32 on our 40 to 50 unit
- 6:51Speaker 3: max wager. So you want to get involved, check out
- 6:53Speaker 3: all the different options, paramountsports.com.
- 6:56Speaker 1: All right, we'll close it out with, of course, the Utes.
- 7:00Speaker 1: This line moved a little bit, started off big. It's
- 7:04Speaker 1: now gone down seven and a half, settled at eight.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Utes are eight-point favorites on the road at Iowa State.
- 7:10Speaker 1: We've got all those newcomers, a new coach. It might
- 7:13Speaker 1: be a little bit rainy, and we just had Bill Riley,
- 7:16Speaker 1: voice of the Utes, on. He's been told that the
- 7:17Speaker 1: field is in bad shape. I don't know how much
- 7:19Speaker 1: that really changes anything. But Utah, more than a touchdown
- 7:23Speaker 1: favorite in their first road game of the year, Lee.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Well, I think it does favor Iowa state a little bit.
- 7:29Speaker 3: They're going to try to muck this game up. They want,
- 7:31Speaker 3: they want to shorten the game. They want to run
- 7:34Speaker 3: the football and you know, you, you got a great
- 7:38Speaker 3: quarterback in Utah. They can run the football and you
- 7:41Speaker 3: slow him down a little bit.
- 7:42Speaker 4: Certainly helps you out here.
- 7:43Speaker 3: I would say, I thought it was going to take
- 7:45Speaker 3: them until mid season till they be competitive. But boy,
- 7:49Speaker 3: was I wrong? They went into Iowa, almost won the game,
- 7:52Speaker 3: held this Iowa offense. which has improved to just 284
- 7:56Speaker 3: total yards here. You know, we know that Iowa was
- 7:59Speaker 3: ranked 21. Utah's not that much higher at 15. And
- 8:04Speaker 3: like I said, the running game for Iowa State, pretty
- 8:06Speaker 3: good also. Special teams are solid here. I think the
- 8:10Speaker 3: line's a little high, and I think the public and
- 8:12Speaker 3: also the Sharps figured it out and moved it down
- 8:14Speaker 3: from over double digits to eight points here. I think
- 8:18Speaker 3: Utah wins the game, 26-23, but I think eight points
- 8:21Speaker 3: is probably the right side here in taking Iowa State.
- 8:24Speaker 1: All right, so Utah wins, but Iowa State covers. If
- 8:28Speaker 1: you're playing for fun, you care about the line. If
- 8:31Speaker 1: you're playing or you're watching because you're a fan, all
- 8:34Speaker 1: you care about is that win. So everybody can go
- 8:36Speaker 1: home happy, and Lee Sterling does that for you with
- 8:39Speaker 1: Paramount Sports.
- 8:40Speaker 2: 800-400-9741.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Lee, I'm bummed out. If I had known you were
- 8:45Speaker 1: in town and I was staying in town, I don't know,
- 8:48Speaker 1: gone golfing with you or taking you to breakfast or something,
- 8:50Speaker 1: but we'll have to catch up next time.
- 8:53Speaker 4: We will. It's a short trip.
- 8:54Speaker 3: I had to come in Wednesday night. My niece is
- 8:56Speaker 3: getting married. My, my nieces and nephews know the rule.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Don't get married during football season, but they wanted to
- 9:04Speaker 3: do it.
- 9:05Speaker 4: And she has a special place in my heart.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Unfortunately, my younger sister died 14 years.
- 9:10Speaker 4: Ago and she's had a rough time. So I got
- 9:13Speaker 4: to be here for her.
- 9:14Speaker 3: So got to do what you got to do, but
- 9:16Speaker 3: I'll be back for a couple of weeks during the summer.
- 9:18Speaker 3: We'll play some golf and we'll certainly hit a couple
- 9:22Speaker 3: of top restaurants.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Lee, you're the man. Enjoy the family weekend. Thanks for
- 9:26Speaker 2: your time.
- 9:27Speaker 4: You too, buddy.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Take care. 800-400-9741. He says Iowa State will cover, but
- 9:30Speaker 2: Utah will win.
