- 2:51Speaker 8: is something that is needed in something that's God sent,
- 2:55Speaker 8: and it's right here. It's the Hustlers super Bowl. Let's
- 3:00Speaker 8: just make some noise for these two brothers right here
- 3:03Speaker 8: for teaching us and showing us.
- 3:04Speaker 2: The way earn your leisure. Nah, this's crazy, man, crazy,
- 3:11Speaker 2: I like it.
- 3:12Speaker 5: I like that.
- 3:13Speaker 6: Let's get into it. Man, we got allowed to talk
- 3:14Speaker 6: about but let's start. Let's start at the beginning. Let's
- 3:17Speaker 6: start at the beginning. So yeah, you know, I want
- 3:20Speaker 6: to know starting bad Boy Records right to me, definitely
- 3:26Speaker 6: top two, top three labels. Ever, when it comes to
- 3:30Speaker 6: hip hop music, right inspired you to have that vision
- 3:34Speaker 6: in the early nineties. It's trendy to have a record
- 3:37Speaker 6: label now, but especially the way you did it as
- 3:39Speaker 6: far as hiring the top producers, making sure you had
- 3:42Speaker 6: the top end house talent. You kind of navigated it
- 3:45Speaker 6: very strategically. What was your thought process when you was
- 3:48Speaker 6: nineteen years old.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Doing that, I.
- 3:50Speaker 8: Would have to say, starting Bad Boy, I had to
- 3:54Speaker 8: tap into the love. You know, I fell in love
- 3:59Speaker 8: with hip hop the first day I heard like this
- 4:02Speaker 8: battle mixtape of the Treacher's Three versus the Funky Four
- 4:06Speaker 8: plus one. Y'all may not know about any of this,
- 4:10Speaker 8: but it was like the upcoming rap groups that weren't
- 4:15Speaker 8: didn't have any other exposure until the Sugarhill Gang came.
- 4:18Speaker 8: And when the Sugarhill Gang record dropped and I heard
- 4:21Speaker 8: it played on the station WBLS, I knew that hip
- 4:24Speaker 8: hop had arrived, and so I started looking at it
- 4:27Speaker 8: as a possible career. But it really came to me
- 4:31Speaker 8: when I was at the Fresh Fest in the late
- 4:34Speaker 8: eighties when I saw a run DMC in Madison Square
- 4:38Speaker 8: Garden hold up tell everybody to hold up their Adidas,
- 4:42Speaker 8: and thirty thousand people, from the sound of this black
- 4:45Speaker 8: man's voice held up some Adidas.
- 4:48Speaker 2: And so I was like, this is.
- 4:49Speaker 8: About to become a billion dollar, multi billion dollar industry,
- 4:53Speaker 8: and I want end.
- 4:54Speaker 2: And so with bad Boy.
- 4:56Speaker 8: Bad Boy was, you know, the representation of how I
- 4:59Speaker 8: saw music and saw music marketing and grooming artists coming
- 5:04Speaker 8: up having studied the greats like Barry Gordy Russell Simmons.
- 5:12Speaker 8: I was able to see the possibility Andre Herrel, who
- 5:15Speaker 8: gave me my chance. I was taught and I was
- 5:18Speaker 8: meant that I was able to see the possibilities.
- 5:20Speaker 2: But with Bad Boy, I wanted to be disruptive. You know.
- 5:23Speaker 2: My whole thing is disruption, disruption, disruption.
- 5:26Speaker 8: You know, I'm trying to trying to go shake up
- 5:29Speaker 8: the system and make sure that we as artists and
- 5:34Speaker 8: we as a people get treated equally. And so for
- 5:38Speaker 8: me with the record company, I had to look bigger
- 5:40Speaker 8: than hip hop at the time because they wasn't letting
- 5:43Speaker 8: hip hop be global. If y'all see that savage video
- 5:46Speaker 8: of me, that's me finally finally getting an ad on MTV.
- 5:51Speaker 2: You know.
- 5:52Speaker 8: So that's how intense and rough it was for black artists,
- 5:55Speaker 8: and you know, I was always fueled by that purpose.
- 5:59Speaker 8: Number one was to make people dance and make people
- 6:02Speaker 8: feel good through my music.
- 6:04Speaker 2: And then number two was ownership.
- 6:06Speaker 8: I wanted to make sure that I owned my own business.
- 6:10Speaker 8: I wanted to own my own label, and I wanted
- 6:12Speaker 8: to be independent. Hold hold on, yo, guys, you can't
- 6:16Speaker 8: stand in front of it. That nobody security. Nobody should
- 6:20Speaker 8: be standing right there. Man, can y'all hear me?
- 6:26Speaker 2: All right out there?
- 6:31Speaker 6: We all excited, but we gotta be respectful. Nobody should
- 6:34Speaker 6: be standing. So let's let's take this moment. Clear this out. Please,
- 6:37Speaker 6: thank you so much.
- 6:43Speaker 3: But you brought up some of the icons.
- 6:45Speaker 4: You brought up Berry Gordy, you said, Russell Simmis obviously,
- 6:49Speaker 4: rest in peace, Andre Herrel. Something that was intricate about
- 6:53Speaker 4: you was that not only did you produce the records,
- 6:56Speaker 4: but you were able to identify, cur rate, nurture, and
- 7:01Speaker 4: help flourish talent. Not the easiest thing to do, right,
- 7:06Speaker 4: Talk about how that was encompassing part of your entrepreneurial journey,
- 7:09Speaker 4: right because it was, Yeah, it's cool.
- 7:10Speaker 3: To start a label.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I definitely.
- 7:12Speaker 8: We talk about the bad Boys story, but that's not
- 7:14Speaker 8: my whole story.
- 7:15Speaker 2: I have to give yall the whole story.
- 7:17Speaker 8: So I thought I was going to be a professional
- 7:20Speaker 8: NFL football player.
- 7:22Speaker 2: I didn't have no plan B.
- 7:25Speaker 6: And then the last year's school I broke my leg
- 7:27Speaker 6: and so my dream was deferred.
- 7:29Speaker 8: I got very depressed. I did not know what I
- 7:32Speaker 8: was going to do. I was lost. I started just
- 7:35Speaker 8: going to the clubs to dance my pain away. And
- 7:39Speaker 8: so through that process of just dancing in the club
- 7:42Speaker 8: and using music to survive, I was able to get
- 7:49Speaker 8: picked up and get seen and got an opportunity with
- 7:54Speaker 8: my talent as like a background dancer. So they received
- 7:58Speaker 8: me dancing in the club and they were like, come on,
- 8:00Speaker 8: you want to be in this video. So then I
- 8:03Speaker 8: would go to the video shoot and I would see
- 8:05Speaker 8: the executives and I would see how they were, how
- 8:08Speaker 8: the artists treated the executives, and I was like, I
- 8:10Speaker 8: don't know what he does, but I know I want
- 8:14Speaker 8: to do that. And I was blessed with this talent
- 8:18Speaker 8: to be able to hear hits, to be able to
- 8:21Speaker 8: create imaging marketing.
- 8:23Speaker 2: I don't know where it came from.
- 8:24Speaker 8: A's a god giving talent, but I knew what to
- 8:27Speaker 8: put on Jo Tosy, what to put on Mary, and
- 8:31Speaker 8: you know it was it was something that was a blessing.
- 8:34Speaker 8: It was something that was a talent to be able
- 8:37Speaker 8: to do that. And so I started from the bottom
- 8:39Speaker 8: and so I was doing everything from the background dances
- 8:41Speaker 8: to the styling to so by the time I got
- 8:44Speaker 8: to bad Boy to an R and by the time,
- 8:46Speaker 8: I got to bad boy and got my chance. And
- 8:48Speaker 8: I only got my chance through a negative situation. So
- 8:53Speaker 8: anybody out there going through a negative situation, you have
- 8:56Speaker 8: to know stay steady in the storm.
- 8:59Speaker 2: I got yeah. So all right, so let's get into
- 9:05Speaker 2: I gotta say, yeah, I got fired.
- 9:07Speaker 8: I got to tell you the whole Andre Herrel fired me,
- 9:11Speaker 8: and so that that adversary adversity kind of pushed me
- 9:16Speaker 8: into my bad boy purpose.
- 9:18Speaker 2: I was scared. I remember I was fired.
- 9:21Speaker 8: I was outside of Andre's house stalking him, crying, wait,
- 9:26Speaker 8: hoping that he would come and I could talk him
- 9:28Speaker 8: into giving me my job back. But as Andre said,
- 9:33Speaker 8: he didn't fire me to hurt me. He fired me
- 9:36Speaker 8: to make me rich, and so he gave me my independence.
- 9:38Speaker 8: And that's the bad Boy story.
- 9:41Speaker 6: So for that, so I want to I want to
- 9:45Speaker 6: So now let's get into this the Agio situation, right,
- 9:52Speaker 6: So I want to talk about the relationship with the Ayo.
- 9:56Speaker 6: So this lawsuit that you brought against them, right, people
- 10:00Speaker 6: might not know, but I think Pharrell was the actually
- 10:02Speaker 6: first one to sue the Agio and it was for
- 10:04Speaker 6: unfair treatment. So you had a historic relationship with them
- 10:07Speaker 6: fifteen years going back.
- 10:09Speaker 2: To Sirak Delion, I.
- 10:12Speaker 6: Not even heard of Sarak until you started doing the
- 10:13Speaker 6: commercials blew without the water. Then you had Deli on
- 10:16Speaker 6: and everything looked like it was on the up and up,
- 10:18Speaker 6: owned by black man and all that. So a lot
- 10:20Speaker 6: of people was confused when the lawsuit came about. You
- 10:23Speaker 6: shared some information with us when we came to your
- 10:25Speaker 6: house that we wasn't aware of. So can you really
- 10:29Speaker 6: talk about that, because I think it's a very interesting
- 10:33Speaker 6: case study for entrepreneurs to understand, definitely.
- 10:38Speaker 8: The situations in the courts now. So I'm gonna share
- 10:40Speaker 8: with y'all what I can. This is all public record,
- 10:43Speaker 8: but basically I was brought I was called to have
- 10:48Speaker 8: a meeting with Dazio and they knew that I was
- 10:52Speaker 8: kind of killing things in the culture and they were
- 10:56Speaker 8: trying to fix their diversity problem, and through that a
- 11:00Speaker 8: meeting was set up and I told them, you know,
- 11:02Speaker 8: I want to be a owner, that I have these
- 11:04Speaker 8: ideas from promoting parties at Howard, just remembering that I
- 11:10Speaker 8: would always get the door and never get the bar,
- 11:13Speaker 8: and so I said, I have aspirations to have black
- 11:16Speaker 8: owned brands owned by black people behind the bar and
- 11:19Speaker 8: a part of your organization that the biggest distributor of
- 11:23Speaker 8: spirits in the world, biggest maker of spirits in the world.
- 11:27Speaker 8: So we get a test project. I'm looking at their
- 11:31Speaker 8: portfolio and they say, we could start something from scratch.
- 11:35Speaker 8: But I'm looking at their portfolio and I remember one
- 11:37Speaker 8: night I was having a great, great.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Time with Sarah. I had some soraki.
- 11:42Speaker 8: It was made by grapes, and I remember, you know,
- 11:45Speaker 8: having just such the greatest time. And so the light
- 11:49Speaker 8: bulb went off in my head. I said, I don't
- 11:50Speaker 8: want to wait and develop nothing. Let me show you
- 11:53Speaker 8: what I could do with Sirak. Let me show you
- 11:56Speaker 8: how I could turn your revenue around. They were losing
- 11:59Speaker 8: forty minision dollars a year, and I went and turned
- 12:02Speaker 8: it around and took it to two point six million
- 12:05Speaker 8: cases from forty thousand cases. Okay, and so this is
- 12:09Speaker 8: something that's never been done, and so and so, fifteen
- 12:18Speaker 8: years later, even though I had that success, I was
- 12:23Speaker 8: always fighting for Sarah not to be pigeonholed, not to
- 12:27Speaker 8: be pigeonholed as a black brand, not to be pigeonholed
- 12:30Speaker 8: as an urban brand. I already went through that I
- 12:33Speaker 8: went through that with Sean John. They put me in
- 12:35Speaker 8: an urban section. I had to go and disrupt the
- 12:38Speaker 8: fashion industry, pull up on Fashion Week and showing what
- 12:41Speaker 8: that black excellent swag is about. And that's what we
- 12:45Speaker 8: did with Sean John, and so with Siroc it was
- 12:49Speaker 8: the same thing.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Get into the spirris industry.
- 12:51Speaker 8: No matter what industry I went into, I always came
- 12:55Speaker 8: up against this ceiling that they just wanted to keep
- 12:59Speaker 8: me in the colored section. I would say for businesses,
- 13:03Speaker 8: you have white only business, just so you have white
- 13:06Speaker 8: only bathrooms back in the days, and you have black
- 13:08Speaker 8: only business. And so my fight is to always make
- 13:12Speaker 8: sure that we could just do business. I want to
- 13:14Speaker 8: be treated equally like anybody else. And so that's what
- 13:17Speaker 8: the fight is about. And it's not me just fighting
- 13:21Speaker 8: for me. I'm fighting for us because whatever bar I set,
- 13:24Speaker 8: y'all have to come behind me on that ball, and
- 13:27Speaker 8: I want to make sure that it's right. So that's
- 13:29Speaker 8: what the fight is about, simply put. And the last
- 13:32Speaker 8: things to make it clear was with Delion, I still
- 13:36Speaker 8: own Delion, Okay.
- 13:38Speaker 2: So with DeLeon, I sent my people before.
- 13:42Speaker 3: You tell the story about that, just talk about the process.
- 13:45Speaker 4: Of getting delely On right because it was yourself with
- 13:47Speaker 4: the Rock and so now this opportunity to create something.
- 13:50Speaker 8: Else, but a lot of First of all, corporate America
- 13:55Speaker 8: is made and built for white men. So when you're
- 13:59Speaker 8: going into corporate America, usually your entry way is to
- 14:03Speaker 8: help them with their diversity problem. But at the end
- 14:08Speaker 8: of the day, you want to be able to open
- 14:10Speaker 8: up doors. Sometimes you gotta take that opportunity and get in.
- 14:14Speaker 8: And so that's what I did with Sarrock. But I
- 14:17Speaker 8: told him I don't work for nobody. Everything in my
- 14:19Speaker 8: portfolio I own. So you guys have to know, my
- 14:23Speaker 8: ultimate dream is a tequila. Since I was a kid,
- 14:26Speaker 8: I remember drinking tequila or being afraid to drink tekilla
- 14:29Speaker 8: at first, since not a kid, a teenager.
- 14:33Speaker 4: Correction please, I mean I was over twenty one, yeah, yea, yeah, yeah,
- 14:37Speaker 4: he was twenty one at Howard, I remember it.
- 14:39Speaker 8: Yeah, but tequila used to have a worm in it,
- 14:41Speaker 8: that's how dangerous they used to like market it. But
- 14:44Speaker 8: I was like, I really love tequila. And this was
- 14:46Speaker 8: before the whole tequila craze. So it's like you make
- 14:49Speaker 8: a deal. You make a deal, like I'm gonna advance
- 14:52Speaker 8: this for you, so then we could be good partners
- 14:55Speaker 8: and you could give me what I want, which is
- 14:57Speaker 8: my opportunity for me to own my brand and to
- 15:00Speaker 8: be able to build generational wealth for my kids and
- 15:03Speaker 8: my people. And I just need the same twenty four
- 15:06Speaker 8: hours as y'all giving everybody else in your portfolio. And
- 15:11Speaker 8: I couldn't get that. I had to send my people
- 15:14Speaker 8: down to Mexico. And this is just to tell you
- 15:18Speaker 8: what the fight is about. They went down to Mexico
- 15:23Speaker 8: and when they got down there, they found out that
- 15:27Speaker 8: there was zero a gove planet for DeLeon. So there
- 15:33Speaker 8: was no plan for us to be successful. It was
- 15:36Speaker 8: no equal treatment the other brands. They had a gave planet.
- 15:42Speaker 8: They had no agave planet for me. And sometimes you
- 15:45Speaker 8: have to go check even your partners to see what's
- 15:47Speaker 8: really going on.
- 15:48Speaker 2: And so when I.
- 15:49Speaker 8: Saw that, I was like, nah, nah, I'm gonna fight
- 15:52Speaker 8: because it's bigger than me. It's about not just me,
- 15:56Speaker 8: it's about we, It's about all of us. So I chose,
- 15:59Speaker 8: I chose my perfect I chose my purpose over profit.
- 16:04Speaker 2: And that's the whole DeLeon situation.
- 16:06Speaker 3: You brought up distribution, you clap it up for that.
- 16:11Speaker 5: You brought up distribution and you come from the music world,
- 16:14Speaker 5: and so distribution.
- 16:15Speaker 8: Is I need to say this. I need y'all still
- 16:17Speaker 8: support Delian. You know we're gonna we're gonna win this
- 16:21Speaker 8: lead on, still support Deli On.
- 16:23Speaker 4: Y'all still owned by blackness, old by black man, black man,
- 16:26Speaker 4: owned by a black man. You come from the music world,
- 16:28Speaker 4: with distribution means one thing. For some of the audience
- 16:31Speaker 4: who may not be familiar. I'm sure they could consume spirits,
- 16:34Speaker 4: but they don't really know what it means to have
- 16:36Speaker 4: distribution inside of that space.
- 16:37Speaker 5: What does that look like when you're building a brand
- 16:40Speaker 5: like Deli on.
- 16:41Speaker 8: The Interrupt, Yeah, supply and distribution is everything. Whether you
- 16:48Speaker 8: came from the streets, we all know that. We learn
- 16:50Speaker 8: that at a very young age. And so no matter
- 16:53Speaker 8: how I market a product, if they just keep me
- 16:56Speaker 8: in black neighborhoods through the distribution, I can never grow.
- 17:00Speaker 8: I can never be as great as I could be,
- 17:03Speaker 8: or as great as we can be, you know what
- 17:05Speaker 8: I'm saying. I had to go from me to we,
- 17:07Speaker 8: and so when I started really looking at every decision
- 17:10Speaker 8: I was making, I was like that this is something
- 17:13Speaker 8: that I have to change. I can't just come and
- 17:15Speaker 8: get this check and not be changing the way the
- 17:18Speaker 8: ecosystem is. So if you want to have a successful brand,
- 17:23Speaker 8: you have to have Number one is you have to
- 17:25Speaker 8: have the supply to meet the demand, and then you
- 17:31Speaker 8: have to have the distribution. And so if people control
- 17:34Speaker 8: your supply and control your distribution, they control your future.
- 17:39Speaker 2: And so that's what I'm fighting for right now. So
- 17:43Speaker 2: let's talk about.
- 17:46Speaker 6: Is that one of the biggest regrets that you made
- 17:48Speaker 6: as far as not having equity in SERAC.
- 17:53Speaker 2: No, it's not a regret.
- 17:54Speaker 8: Everybody has a journey and that's just really how you know,
- 17:58Speaker 8: corporate America works. You gotta pay your dues to get
- 18:02Speaker 8: in and they make us prove ourselves over and over
- 18:05Speaker 8: and over. And I don't have any regrets because the journey.
- 18:10Speaker 8: The journey was the most important. And also I'm not
- 18:13Speaker 8: really letting Sarah go so you know, so I'm going
- 18:17Speaker 8: through this, but it's part of the journey. So I
- 18:20Speaker 8: had to go through that, through this to be able
- 18:22Speaker 8: to get to this point.
- 18:23Speaker 6: But when you spoke to us, it was enlightened because
- 18:25Speaker 6: even if you look at a lot of the billionaires
- 18:26Speaker 6: in our culture, it's because of spirits. When you look
- 18:29Speaker 6: at Jay, you look at yourself. A lot of people
- 18:32Speaker 6: have made their money not so much on the music side,
- 18:35Speaker 6: but on spirit side. Then you look at somebody like
- 18:37Speaker 6: George Clooney, who's one of the greatest actors of all time.
- 18:40Speaker 6: He became a billionaire because of tequila on the low,
- 18:44Speaker 6: Like you know what I mean. So it's like when
- 18:45Speaker 6: you were saying how other brands were put in bars
- 18:51Speaker 6: and put in restaurants and there was marketing dollars behind that.
- 18:54Speaker 2: That's why you heard of these liquors that you never
- 18:56Speaker 2: heard of before.
- 18:58Speaker 6: They weren't putting your liquor and the same places, and
- 19:00Speaker 6: they was actually just relying on your star power, not
- 19:03Speaker 6: giving you the marketing dollar.
- 19:04Speaker 2: It's kind of like fighting with your hands cuffs.
- 19:06Speaker 6: So I think it's great to communicate that because from
- 19:08Speaker 6: the outside in it could be looked at it's like
- 19:10Speaker 6: that's just somebody's richest problems like me.
- 19:12Speaker 2: So like know what I'm saying.
- 19:13Speaker 6: But it's like you said, it's bigger than you, because
- 19:15Speaker 6: it's like, all right, this is a problem that's faced
- 19:18Speaker 6: across the board where black companies get less funding, Black
- 19:22Speaker 6: companies get less promotion, less distribution. If you look at
- 19:25Speaker 6: invest Vest, look how many people is here right now,
- 19:28Speaker 6: there's no reason why we shouldn't have ten million dollars
- 19:30Speaker 6: in corporate sponsorships. Right If we was a white entity
- 19:34Speaker 6: and it was all white people, every single corporation in
- 19:38Speaker 6: America would be sponsoring invest Vest. Right. But these are
- 19:44Speaker 6: the problems that are hard to communicate because it's like
- 19:48Speaker 6: most people, you just you're worried about you know, paycheck
- 19:51Speaker 6: to paycheck, right, so you're not worrying about that, But
- 19:54Speaker 6: it's like on a higher level, these are the there's
- 19:57Speaker 6: different levels of racism.
- 20:00Speaker 2: This is the level of racism that you don't see.
- 20:02Speaker 6: So it looks like, oh, we millionaires and we get
- 20:04Speaker 6: fifteen thousand people, But it's like somebody else can do
- 20:07Speaker 6: a fraction of this and get way more money and
- 20:11Speaker 6: way and beyond CNBC and be on Bloomberg. But when
- 20:14Speaker 6: we get on it's for a diversity or a Black
- 20:17Speaker 6: initiative or a Black History Month. These that's a systemic
- 20:21Speaker 6: problem in this country that's hard to communicate because people
- 20:25Speaker 6: don't fully understand it. And you told me it was
- 20:27Speaker 6: like on your level, the issues that's hard to communicate
- 20:31Speaker 6: because we don't understand it because we're not at the
- 20:33Speaker 6: billionaire level. So I think it's just important to It's
- 20:36Speaker 6: always every level that you go to, there's different hurdles. Yes,
- 20:42Speaker 6: one of the things I've been blessed to see is
- 20:44Speaker 6: having thirty years in corporate America with partnerships, and we
- 20:50Speaker 6: have to come to the reality that nobody is coming
- 20:55Speaker 6: to save us.
- 20:57Speaker 2: No one is coming to save us. Out of all.
- 21:05Speaker 8: The business revenue in America, only one percent.
- 21:11Speaker 2: Goes to black businesses.
- 21:15Speaker 8: But then there's an accountability from us because we have
- 21:19Speaker 8: a one point eight trillion.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Dollar buying power.
- 21:25Speaker 8: And only two percent of that we circulate in our
- 21:28Speaker 8: own communities, so we can't complain.
- 21:34Speaker 2: We know what it is. It's time to change the tone.
- 21:39Speaker 8: We have to unify our dollars else nothing will change.
- 21:44Speaker 8: We have to weaponize the almighty black dollar to save
- 21:47Speaker 8: us because we can't have these.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Festivals and conventions.
- 21:54Speaker 8: But then we leave here and we don't understand the
- 21:58Speaker 8: power of our one point eight trillion dollars spending power
- 22:02Speaker 8: that we only give two percent to ourselves.
- 22:07Speaker 2: So I'm here to speak from love. I'm love self.
- 22:11Speaker 8: Love is making sure that you take care of yourself,
- 22:14Speaker 8: your family, and your people first, and you can't wait
- 22:16Speaker 8: for nobody to come save you.
- 22:18Speaker 2: So there there is a solution.
- 22:21Speaker 8: Things are definitely dismal as far as what's planned for us,
- 22:26Speaker 8: but there's a way out if we unify.
- 22:29Speaker 2: But we got to truly, truly unify.
- 22:32Speaker 8: We have to truly, truly start making decisions that support
- 22:35Speaker 8: our communities.
- 22:36Speaker 2: We can't think that there's a government grant that's gonna
- 22:39Speaker 2: come and just free us all.
- 22:41Speaker 8: We have to get to hustling, working together and changing
- 22:45Speaker 8: the tone.
- 22:46Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a fact.
- 22:50Speaker 2: You know.
- 22:52Speaker 4: One of our other conversations that the word disruption kept
- 22:55Speaker 4: coming up and you were so adamant about it. When
- 22:57Speaker 4: we walked away from it, was like, how can we
- 22:59Speaker 4: be as disrupt And it's interesting because the most disruptive
- 23:02Speaker 4: thing we can do is work together right. It's something
- 23:05Speaker 4: that we haven't done right. And so I know that
- 23:08Speaker 4: you just lost in Power Global. Talk about what that
- 23:11Speaker 4: is and how similar to what we're trying to do.
- 23:13Speaker 4: Give platforms to people in the world of business of
- 23:16Speaker 4: all categories. What's your vision for that Empower Global.
- 23:20Speaker 8: I'm a solutions based person, you know, I don't want
- 23:22Speaker 8: to just come and reiterate the problems that we already
- 23:26Speaker 8: know is going on. So when I'm using my creativity
- 23:32Speaker 8: and folks, first of all, one of the things that
- 23:38Speaker 8: being successful and having money, people kind of get your
- 23:41Speaker 8: purpose messed up.
- 23:43Speaker 2: They get it fucked up.
- 23:44Speaker 8: To be honest, you know what I'm saying, they don't
- 23:46Speaker 8: really know what clowth you cut from, because once they
- 23:50Speaker 8: see you getting money, it turns into something else. But
- 23:54Speaker 8: from day one, you know, for me, my purpose was
- 23:59Speaker 8: always to make sure that I was working to make
- 24:01Speaker 8: life better for my people. So as I looked at
- 24:05Speaker 8: where we're supposed to be as a people in twenty
- 24:09Speaker 8: fifty three, they said we're gonna have zero net wealth
- 24:14Speaker 8: as a people. So I didn't want to sit there
- 24:18Speaker 8: and complain about it. I'm like, what do we have
- 24:19Speaker 8: to do?
- 24:20Speaker 2: What do we have to do? And I remember.
- 24:22Speaker 8: Tulsa, and I was like, Tulsa, Black Wall Street, black
- 24:28Speaker 8: Main Street. And I was like, you know, I'm standing
- 24:33Speaker 8: on the shoulders of my ancestors right now. I said,
- 24:36Speaker 8: I have the mind and creativity to make a global marketplace,
- 24:41Speaker 8: to make the new Black Amazon where we can see
- 24:44Speaker 8: ourselves circulating our dollars.
- 24:46Speaker 2: I don't want to ask nobody for shit. I'm going.
- 24:49Speaker 2: I'm going it's in Power Global.
- 24:51Speaker 8: It's a solution, and it puts accountability back on us.
- 24:55Speaker 8: We cannot leave this room and not have the accountability
- 24:59Speaker 8: to do better, because it's ridiculous that out of one
- 25:03Speaker 8: point eight trillion dollars, we only love ourselves two percent.
- 25:08Speaker 8: And so Empowered Global was created for entrepreneurs of color
- 25:14Speaker 8: all around the world and the whole diaspora to be
- 25:17Speaker 8: able to tap in, to be able to support each other.
- 25:20Speaker 8: And so that right there is the mission. That's one
- 25:23Speaker 8: of the parts of the solution. And I want everybody
- 25:26Speaker 8: to go visit Empowered Global, but not just visit shop
- 25:30Speaker 8: there and know the purpose and the causes is to
- 25:32Speaker 8: provide a solution.
- 25:34Speaker 2: If not, we're just gonna be talking about it.
- 25:36Speaker 8: So my whole thing is, let's get to the solution,
- 25:38Speaker 8: and that's what Empowered Global is. So let's talk about
- 25:45Speaker 8: and they burn TUSA down. They can't burn this down though.
- 25:53Speaker 6: So one of the most important aspects of any society
- 25:57Speaker 6: is media. Right, whoever control the media controls the people.
- 26:01Speaker 6: So we know about you know, propaganda and how that's
- 26:06Speaker 6: been negatively put on us but as nineteen Keys like
- 26:10Speaker 6: to say, that's also positive propaganda, right, So I think
- 26:13Speaker 6: that we are eyo. We provide positive propaganda where this
- 26:17Speaker 6: is good stories and inspirational stories of people doing things.
- 26:22Speaker 6: So you have a platform Revolt, right, which is probably
- 26:26Speaker 6: the biggest black media company out there right now. And
- 26:29Speaker 6: we actually have learned a lot from Revolt because we
- 26:32Speaker 6: work with Revolt.
- 26:33Speaker 2: We have a showing Revolt family.
- 26:36Speaker 6: We've been able to be educated from just observing somebody
- 26:41Speaker 6: doing business at a very high level. What's the importance
- 26:45Speaker 6: of Revolt and talk about the importance of media in
- 26:51Speaker 6: the black community.
- 26:53Speaker 8: Yes, media is the most powerful industry in the world.
- 26:59Speaker 8: If you don't control your narrative, somebody else will control it.
- 27:04Speaker 8: I built Revolt not just as a platform to follow
- 27:09Speaker 8: in the footsteps of BT, which I want to just
- 27:12Speaker 8: give a shot out to Bob Johnson, Kathy Hughes from Radio.
- 27:17Speaker 2: One, all of the Byron Allen, and.
- 27:25Speaker 8: To me, it was so important that we had our
- 27:28Speaker 8: own black free press. I feel information is so valuable
- 27:33Speaker 8: and so crucial. So it wasn't like I wanted Revolt
- 27:37Speaker 8: to come out and we do a bunch of reality shows.
- 27:40Speaker 8: I wanted Revolt to be a base, a foundation of
- 27:43Speaker 8: information that people of other colors have the luxury to have.
- 27:50Speaker 8: When you watch CNN, they don't talk about us, they
- 27:52Speaker 8: don't talk about our problems.
- 27:53Speaker 2: We can't relate to that.
- 27:55Speaker 8: Even MSNBC they talk about a little bit more Fox,
- 27:57Speaker 8: we can't relate to it.
- 27:59Speaker 2: So with Revolt, I had to.
- 28:02Speaker 8: Look at the fact that we did not as a
- 28:04Speaker 8: people have a free press. That means you have no voice,
- 28:08Speaker 8: you can't say what you want to say. Them cats
- 28:10Speaker 8: on CNN, MSNBC, Fox, they can't say what.
- 28:13Speaker 2: They really want to say.
- 28:16Speaker 8: At Revolt, you can say what you really want to say,
- 28:18Speaker 8: and that's freedom. And so that's why it was important
- 28:21Speaker 8: for me to go and really really invest in black media,
- 28:26Speaker 8: to be a leader in black media.
- 28:28Speaker 2: But still their lives.
- 28:30Speaker 8: The problem black media only gets one percent of advertising dollars.
- 28:36Speaker 8: They feel like they negotiated with us and said, okay,
- 28:39Speaker 8: we'll give you two percent. And so it's this constant
- 28:43Speaker 8: struggle of whether it was you know, when I was
- 28:48Speaker 8: doing Sean John or Revolt as somebody having me. I'm
- 28:51Speaker 8: knowing I'm getting into these situations and they're going to
- 28:54Speaker 8: be the obstacles but I want to smoke, you know,
- 29:00Speaker 8: would say good trouble, you know, getting in the good trouble,
- 29:04Speaker 8: and and and and.
- 29:05Speaker 2: That's what revolt is really about.
- 29:07Speaker 8: It's about shaking it up and given given the voices
- 29:11Speaker 8: a platform.
- 29:12Speaker 6: But but talk about that though, because that's something that
- 29:14Speaker 6: once again the average person is not even thinking about.
- 29:17Speaker 6: But we see it as a media company where advertising
- 29:20Speaker 6: dollars right, and that's really how a media company is
- 29:24Speaker 6: able to survive. So the challenges of having to you know,
- 29:31Speaker 6: convince companies and getting less than you know that you
- 29:34Speaker 6: should get, and you know, different corporate initiatives they say
- 29:37Speaker 6: that they're going to give money and they don't give money.
- 29:38Speaker 6: Like these are things that's very critical because it's hard
- 29:41Speaker 6: to survive as a media company for free or free
- 29:44Speaker 6: media company if you're not getting revenue from ads.
- 29:47Speaker 2: Without a doubt.
- 29:49Speaker 8: First of all, they are buying black media to market
- 29:54Speaker 8: to y'all, but they're not buying it from from the
- 29:57Speaker 8: actual black media platforms of companies. If we don't have
- 30:01Speaker 8: the resources, then we don't have the ability to compete.
- 30:06Speaker 8: The money that you make, you put into your programming,
- 30:09Speaker 8: you invest in your talent, you invest in your marketing.
- 30:13Speaker 8: So it's like it's a struggle for black media companies,
- 30:18Speaker 8: but it's an unnecessary struggle because we have the power
- 30:23Speaker 8: to do anything we want to do. We run the world,
- 30:27Speaker 8: we run the culture. But we have to understand how
- 30:30Speaker 8: it works. If they're only giving us one percent and
- 30:34Speaker 8: there's one hundred dollars, what you're gonna do with a
- 30:36Speaker 8: dollar and everybody else got fifty dollars, forty dollars and
- 30:42Speaker 8: you only have a dollar.
- 30:43Speaker 2: And so that's putting it in layman's terms.
- 30:46Speaker 8: But it's such an importance to it's such an importance
- 30:50Speaker 8: to have black media, to have that representation, and so
- 30:54Speaker 8: the fight, the fight continues.
- 30:55Speaker 2: A lot of the.
- 30:56Speaker 8: Stuff they said from you know, George Floyd and trying
- 30:59Speaker 8: to keep everything calm, they haven't done those things. And
- 31:04Speaker 8: so this episode is brought to you by P and
- 31:08Speaker 8: C Bank.

- 32:57Speaker 8: The beauty about it is that we're seeing. We're seeing
- 33:01Speaker 8: what time it is. Today is the sixtieth anniversary of
- 33:06Speaker 8: the March on Washington, and sixty years later, things haven't
- 33:17Speaker 8: changed because we have to change them. We have to
- 33:20Speaker 8: change the tone, and the only tone is through love,
- 33:24Speaker 8: through unity.
- 33:25Speaker 2: If we don't love ourselves.
- 33:27Speaker 8: And really get past that part of us in this room,
- 33:31Speaker 8: forget all the statistics. Everybody else is out there but
- 33:35Speaker 8: us in this room, unifying and being accountable, pulling money together,
- 33:40Speaker 8: pulling resources together.
- 33:43Speaker 2: If we don't do it, we're doomed. You know what
- 33:45Speaker 2: I'm saying. And the time is now, and we could
- 33:48Speaker 2: do it.
- 33:48Speaker 8: We have one of the most powerful entrepreneur generations in
- 33:51Speaker 8: the history.
- 33:52Speaker 2: Of our communities. Look at all these people out here.
- 33:55Speaker 8: We want the information, people want to be able to
- 33:58Speaker 8: be successful, have that appetite, but we got to put
- 34:01Speaker 8: the love in it for ourselves to recognize that we're
- 34:06Speaker 8: not getting what we're supposed to get and that we
- 34:09Speaker 8: have to fight for it.
- 34:12Speaker 3: This is crazy.
- 34:13Speaker 4: So first let me just say thank you, because when
- 34:15Speaker 4: we started Earn You Leisure, it was interesting. One of
- 34:17Speaker 4: the goals that we had was like, can we make
- 34:20Speaker 4: it to Revolt because we saw that you guys had
- 34:23Speaker 4: an eye for young talent that was trying to make
- 34:25Speaker 4: a change. And so we sat down with Derek Ferguson,
- 34:28Speaker 4: who you may know very well, right and he said
- 34:30Speaker 4: something interesting to us. He said, listen, you guys have
- 34:35Speaker 4: created a white flame and we were like, what does
- 34:37Speaker 4: that mean? Derek, he said, I've seen Puff do it
- 34:40Speaker 4: four times. He did it with Bad Boy, he did
- 34:44Speaker 4: it with The Rock, he did it with Revolt, and
- 34:47Speaker 4: he's did it with Sean Jones. So I want to
- 34:49Speaker 4: talk about Sean Jones a little bit because coming up
- 34:52Speaker 4: in the nineties, late nineties by far my favorite clothing brand,
- 34:56Speaker 4: and we show what that did for high level fashion.
- 34:59Speaker 4: I don't want to call it fashion because that would
- 35:01Speaker 4: be labeling. I want to talk about high level fashion
- 35:03Speaker 4: because it was on Fifth Avenue and we were going
- 35:05Speaker 4: to that store.
- 35:06Speaker 3: I know it was.
- 35:07Speaker 4: Sold, but recently you got it back, So talk about
- 35:11Speaker 4: that journey to creating this brand of high level fashion,
- 35:15Speaker 4: high level luxury, selling it and now getting it back
- 35:19Speaker 4: and the purpose for it. Now, what's the vision for it?
- 35:23Speaker 8: Yeah, even though they try to put us in a
- 35:28Speaker 8: box with Sean John, I just didn't let them. Like
- 35:31Speaker 8: my thoughts were, I have to dream bigger than you
- 35:36Speaker 8: know what the reality is played for me. And so
- 35:39Speaker 8: with Sean John as a fashion label, I didn't want
- 35:42Speaker 8: it to be just about street wear. So that's why
- 35:45Speaker 8: you saw the Sean John suits, the fragrance, all the things.
- 35:49Speaker 2: That a major white fashion house would have.
- 35:52Speaker 8: I went and I broke down those doors to make
- 35:54Speaker 8: sure that it happened.
- 35:55Speaker 2: But most importantly, it was just the.
- 36:00Speaker 8: Striking lack of black talent in the world of fashion
- 36:06Speaker 8: when I got into the world of fashion, and I
- 36:08Speaker 8: wanted to change that.
- 36:09Speaker 2: And so the only way I could do that is I.
- 36:11Speaker 8: Had to think past being urban, past being streetwear. And
- 36:16Speaker 8: I was able to go into so many different categories
- 36:18Speaker 8: from kids to luggage, to.
- 36:22Speaker 2: Fragrances, footwear, footwear. And so.
- 36:28Speaker 8: I sold the company, and you know, it didn't it
- 36:34Speaker 8: wasn't the same without me, you know, And so I
- 36:36Speaker 8: got an opportunity to get it back. And so right
- 36:39Speaker 8: now we are in development for the return to Sean
- 36:42Speaker 8: John and.
- 36:43Speaker 2: So I'm very very proud of talk about them.
- 36:49Speaker 8: I want to just say, like the Shawn John journey
- 36:52Speaker 8: was such a positive experience and it has been and
- 36:55Speaker 8: it really broke down doors. So when you see Pharrel
- 36:58Speaker 8: head of e Baton, or you see different cats, you
- 37:02Speaker 8: see fear of God, these opportunities weren't there. And to
- 37:06Speaker 8: know that that we played a part in creating that
- 37:09Speaker 8: opportunity is truly a blessing.
- 37:12Speaker 6: Talk about the process of selling your mind frame and
- 37:15Speaker 6: then your mind frame and buying it back. A lot
- 37:17Speaker 6: of black businesses get criticized when they sell. I don't
- 37:21Speaker 6: think that it's always fair, but that's a different story.
- 37:26Speaker 6: So what's your thought process in that, and then what's
- 37:29Speaker 6: your thought process in buying it back? And was there
- 37:31Speaker 6: hurdles and obstacles and actually able to you know, want
- 37:35Speaker 6: purchasing it back.
- 37:36Speaker 2: I mean I brought it back because I saw there
- 37:38Speaker 2: was an opportunity.
- 37:38Speaker 8: I saw that the operators weren't operating in correctly, and
- 37:43Speaker 8: so you know, I was like, you know, let me
- 37:46Speaker 8: get that back.
- 37:48Speaker 2: You know, I know I know, I know what to
- 37:49Speaker 2: do with that and so. But but as far as selling,
- 37:53Speaker 2: we're here for business. We here to sell things.
- 37:56Speaker 8: Don't be in so personally invested to a point where
- 38:03Speaker 8: you don't know when to get out. That's at another level.
- 38:07Speaker 8: You have to know when to sell when to get out,
- 38:10Speaker 8: because we have to generate wealth. The only way you
- 38:13Speaker 8: could generate wealth is by selling some of your assets
- 38:17Speaker 8: when they are at their highest level of profitability. And
- 38:21Speaker 8: so don't be afraid to build a company and sell
- 38:24Speaker 8: it and buy another company and sell it.
- 38:28Speaker 2: And so that that was my thing.
- 38:30Speaker 8: If these companies that I have, you know, at the
- 38:35Speaker 8: end of the day, their businesses except for like I
- 38:38Speaker 8: would say, revolt, you know, so you know all of
- 38:41Speaker 8: those businesses me as an entrepreneur, that's all on my table.
- 38:43Speaker 8: If I'm at one Hunt twenty fifth Street, that's on
- 38:46Speaker 8: my table right there, you know, Revote. I'm like, no,
- 38:48Speaker 8: I can't let y'all get that.
- 38:49Speaker 2: Data, you know what I'm saying.
- 38:51Speaker 8: So so yeah, I would say at that point, you
- 38:55Speaker 8: know what I'm saying, I was just trying to build
- 38:56Speaker 8: my wealth and I had an opportunity would shown on
- 39:00Speaker 8: John to build some wealth and I was able to
- 39:03Speaker 8: sell it and God bless it to come back to
- 39:05Speaker 8: me full circle.
- 39:06Speaker 2: So that watch out for Seawan John y'all.
- 39:08Speaker 8: The the lawsuits is coming back, but lawsuits definitely coming back.
- 39:13Speaker 2: Thank God.
- 39:14Speaker 3: There's a god somewhere.
- 39:16Speaker 4: So it's interesting when you talk about your portfolio there
- 39:19Speaker 4: and I know you got a strong team. We met
- 39:21Speaker 4: with a lot of the gods brilliant minds, and that's
- 39:22Speaker 4: one of the best things, is like surround yourself with
- 39:24Speaker 4: brilliant minds and you're gonna pick up a lot when
- 39:27Speaker 4: it's time to look at businesses. Is there something that
- 39:30Speaker 4: you look to or philosophy that you have when it's
- 39:33Speaker 4: saying all right, we should go after that one or
- 39:35Speaker 4: maybe this one isn't gonna work. Because I know a
- 39:37Speaker 4: lot of opportunities come away. So how do you say
- 39:40Speaker 4: yes and no to them?
- 39:41Speaker 8: I mean, if you look at what I bet on,
- 39:42Speaker 8: I bet on black I bet on black culture, I
- 39:46Speaker 8: bet on black business, and I really get an opportunity
- 39:55Speaker 8: to see early on like what's really hot and what
- 39:59Speaker 8: I should investing.
- 40:01Speaker 2: Usually the things I'm trying to invest in.
- 40:03Speaker 8: You know, other corporations are not really going in that
- 40:06Speaker 8: direction because they're not trying to support and they're not
- 40:09Speaker 8: trying to hear.
- 40:09Speaker 2: The ideas of black or brown entrepreneurs.
- 40:13Speaker 8: So I take full advantage of that and make sure
- 40:15Speaker 8: that it's in line with my purpose. And as long
- 40:20Speaker 8: as it's in line with my purpose, I'm always looking
- 40:23Speaker 8: for a genius, always looking for somebody to invest in
- 40:27Speaker 8: from my community.
- 40:29Speaker 2: And that has been, you know, something that I've done
- 40:32Speaker 2: all my life. So I want to talk about business structure.
- 40:36Speaker 6: You did something early, I believe in the nineties that
- 40:40Speaker 6: most hip hop labels, no hip hop label I don't
- 40:42Speaker 6: think was doing. It's a traditional business model for hip
- 40:45Speaker 6: hop artists and labels is you have a CPA, you
- 40:48Speaker 6: have a business manager, right, and the business manager gets
- 40:51Speaker 6: a percentage and you end up paying a variety of
- 40:53Speaker 6: different people. And I believe that I have inside information
- 40:57Speaker 6: on this, but I believe you. You fired your businessman,
- 41:00Speaker 6: is you, and you hire a CFO, yeah, Ery Ferguson, right,
- 41:05Speaker 6: put them on salary. So now he's not getting a
- 41:07Speaker 6: percentage of every single thing that's happening. But it's also
- 41:11Speaker 6: a more structured, streamlined situation that's extremely impressive business acumen
- 41:15Speaker 6: to have, especially somebody that's never went to business school,
- 41:18Speaker 6: graduating should what made you want to operate in that
- 41:22Speaker 6: corporate model as opposed to the artist model.
- 41:25Speaker 8: When I was an artist, I was losing so much money,
- 41:29Speaker 8: and I was like, I need somebody to sit here
- 41:31Speaker 8: every day and watch this money, like just literally watch it,
- 41:36Speaker 8: watch it grow, watch it.
- 41:38Speaker 2: If we catch a loss, run in my office and
- 41:40Speaker 2: tell me.
- 41:41Speaker 8: And so that's one of the first people y'all need
- 41:44Speaker 8: to hire is a CFO. You know when you build,
- 41:47Speaker 8: when you finally getting it and building up your organization,
- 41:50Speaker 8: because you want that to be in house. You want
- 41:52Speaker 8: to be able to watch your money, you want to
- 41:54Speaker 8: be able to touch it, you want to be able to
- 41:56Speaker 8: understand what's going on. And so I had to just
- 41:59Speaker 8: learn that from care up in America and really brought
- 42:02Speaker 8: it in and it really leveled everything up for me
- 42:05Speaker 8: as far as the way I was dealing with finances.
- 42:08Speaker 4: One of the things that we see all the time,
- 42:10Speaker 4: we see these these these throwback videos of that that
- 42:14Speaker 4: puff energy and it's infectious, right and so, and shout out.
- 42:20Speaker 3: To Louis back there.
- 42:21Speaker 4: We always get on about the phone incident, but talk
- 42:25Speaker 4: about the message in behind that, right, are you doing.
- 42:28Speaker 3: Obviously it's a passion for you.
- 42:30Speaker 4: But is it because you want to inspire the people
- 42:32Speaker 4: around you to have the same energy or is it
- 42:35Speaker 4: something that's just as natural to you. It's like, you
- 42:37Speaker 4: know what, I'm a hustler. If you're not hustle, get it,
- 42:40Speaker 4: get from around me.
- 42:42Speaker 8: I feel like I'm playing for the team, for a team,
- 42:44Speaker 8: you know, and the team I'm playing for is us.
- 42:48Speaker 8: And so when I'm going in with that intensity, everything
- 42:50Speaker 8: that I do that i'm breaking down, I'm like, yeah,
- 42:53Speaker 8: somebody else could come behind me.
- 42:56Speaker 2: After I was able to break this down, i just
- 42:58Speaker 2: see this.
- 42:58Speaker 8: Hole in the wall and I'm like, come on in,
- 43:00Speaker 8: and y'all and and and so y'all, may y'all remember
- 43:03Speaker 8: that video when I was like, I'm a savage.
- 43:06Speaker 10: I'm a savage. I'm a savage. Whatever I want, I get,
- 43:12Speaker 10: whatever I want I get. Yeah, And that was that
- 43:19Speaker 10: was the change of the tone.
- 43:21Speaker 8: And so when I'm talking y'all today, tonight, move on.
- 43:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 43:33Speaker 8: So that energy is the energy that you need to have.
- 43:37Speaker 8: You know, I'm not gonna lie to you. I had
- 43:40Speaker 8: to switch up my tone because when you are working
- 43:44Speaker 8: with corporate America, you're trying to, you know, just make
- 43:49Speaker 8: sure everything is smooth, nothing's rattled, Everybody keeps their jobs.
- 43:53Speaker 8: And I had to change your tone. I realized that
- 43:56Speaker 8: nobody was gonna give me what I wanted. So even
- 43:59Speaker 8: being on that phone, I was taking what was mine.
- 44:03Speaker 8: So it's that energy, that energy that you have to
- 44:07Speaker 8: go beyond just dreaming about it, beyond talking about it,
- 44:11Speaker 8: writing it in your journal. You have to get your
- 44:13Speaker 8: ass up and go take that, take what's yours. And
- 44:17Speaker 8: I'm not talking about steal from anybody. Don't steal from nobody,
- 44:21Speaker 8: not that way. But it's your dreams. You gotta manifest it,
- 44:24Speaker 8: and you gotta take it with that intense energy.
- 44:27Speaker 6: So, as far as I believe there's like thirteen black
- 44:31Speaker 6: billionaires in America, you're one of them. It's almost an
- 44:35Speaker 6: impossible a feat to accomplish.
- 44:37Speaker 4: Wait, hold on, wait, there's no claps for that.
- 44:45Speaker 3: That should be standing to your faith.
- 44:47Speaker 11: It's a black billionaire, that's crazy.
- 45:00Speaker 2: He's from ya ya.
- 45:04Speaker 6: We can never we can never normalize being a billionaire
- 45:07Speaker 6: everyday thing.
- 45:08Speaker 5: Man.
- 45:09Speaker 6: By the way, we know almost all of them also true.
- 45:13Speaker 6: That's that we'll we'll have another one tomorrow. Yeah, for'sa's
- 45:18Speaker 6: only I want to I want.
- 45:21Speaker 2: To be careful with that. Y'all.
- 45:22Speaker 8: When they talk about us having money and y'all look
- 45:26Speaker 8: at us, it's it's truly an illusion of inclusion. We'll
- 45:31Speaker 8: talk about I can't play a part of the illusion
- 45:33Speaker 8: of inclusion.
- 45:35Speaker 2: So you're looking hair at me like I'm totally included.
- 45:40Speaker 8: No, I'm fighting for the same thing I was fighting
- 45:43Speaker 8: for when I got into the game, but it's at
- 45:46Speaker 8: another level.
- 45:47Speaker 2: And so and so it's very important to understand this
- 45:53Speaker 2: is the truth.
- 45:55Speaker 8: Out of all the billionaires in the world, the world
- 45:58Speaker 8: got almost nine billion people in it, there's only sixteen
- 46:02Speaker 8: black billionaires. So that's the illusion. So every time you know, yeah,
- 46:08Speaker 8: it feels good for one of us to get in,
- 46:10Speaker 8: two to get in, but we gotta stop taking the crumbs.
- 46:14Speaker 2: It's time for way more of us.
- 46:15Speaker 8: Out of a nine billion, I want two billion to
- 46:18Speaker 8: be billionaires. I don't want nothing less for myself or
- 46:23Speaker 8: my people. That's why I was going to ask you.
- 46:25Speaker 6: As far as being such in red space, how does
- 46:29Speaker 6: who do you talk to?
- 46:30Speaker 3: Like?
- 46:30Speaker 6: I know obviously is you and Jay a few other people,
- 46:33Speaker 6: but what's very few people can relate to the challenges,
- 46:38Speaker 6: to the struggles, to the financial different coals, these different
- 46:41Speaker 6: things in that nature that happened at that level.
- 46:44Speaker 2: Somebody said something that was very interesting to us. One time.
- 46:46Speaker 6: We were talking about a person that's extremely successful and
- 46:50Speaker 6: his former friend, and they like, well, you never think
- 46:54Speaker 6: about the winner's perspectives. Everybody always sympathizes with the loser,
- 46:59Speaker 6: But what about the winner? What about things that he
- 47:02Speaker 6: has to go through, the trauma that he has? So
- 47:04Speaker 6: what is that for you? Knowing that you're one of
- 47:08Speaker 6: twelve people in America? Like who do you talk to?
- 47:11Speaker 6: How's that social circle? How is it being in that environment?
- 47:14Speaker 6: What are some of the challenges? Like how does that
- 47:16Speaker 6: actually look for you? I Mean it's definitely lonely. It's
- 47:21Speaker 6: not a lot of people to talk to.
- 47:22Speaker 8: I mean I talked to Jay or some other friends,
- 47:27Speaker 8: but it's I mean when I look at it, I
- 47:32Speaker 8: just know the truth that it's not enough wealth being
- 47:35Speaker 8: spread around, you know. And so I'm at this point
- 47:39Speaker 8: and that's what energizes me. I don't I don't really
- 47:42Speaker 8: look at it, you know, as far as like, Okay,
- 47:45Speaker 8: I'm a billionaire, I'm more like, you know, my people
- 47:47Speaker 8: are not doing good.
- 47:48Speaker 2: Yes, I I'm blessed to be a billionaire.
- 47:51Speaker 8: But at the same time, you know, if my people
- 47:53Speaker 8: aren't doing good, then I can't be settled.
- 47:55Speaker 6: Because we met, We talked to Nas and he was
- 47:58Speaker 6: saying like, you know, we've been doing a lot of
- 48:00Speaker 6: venture capital investing and he's been killing it. And I'm paraphrasing,
- 48:05Speaker 6: but he was like, the higher up he moves, the
- 48:07Speaker 6: more discouraged he gets.
- 48:08Speaker 2: Yeah, because he's.
- 48:10Speaker 6: Into different circles now and he's aware of information and
- 48:12Speaker 6: he's realizing how much money is out there and how
- 48:15Speaker 6: little money we have where he didn't really fully understand
- 48:18Speaker 6: that before. So it's an interesting paradigm, right, the higher
- 48:22Speaker 6: up you move, the more discourage you get, because you're
- 48:25Speaker 6: seeing it from a different pursuit, Like you're seeing it
- 48:27Speaker 6: from the mountain as opposed to seeing it from the street.
- 48:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 48:30Speaker 8: Yeah, So just sitting here, this is thirty years of
- 48:35Speaker 8: experience of seeing things at a level that you know,
- 48:38Speaker 8: most people haven't seen it at.
- 48:40Speaker 2: And so it's important that I tell people the truth.
- 48:43Speaker 8: That's why I say, like the time is now, no
- 48:46Speaker 8: one is coming to save us, because I'm at that
- 48:48Speaker 8: mountain and I'm seeing the oppression that's still at that level.
- 48:53Speaker 8: And because they put us in the media like we're
- 48:56Speaker 8: doing so good, y'all don't feel that that level of.
- 49:02Speaker 2: The stoppage of creating wealth.
- 49:05Speaker 8: So when it gets up to that point and we
- 49:08Speaker 8: talk about generational wealth, we're fighting just to get like
- 49:12Speaker 8: normal wealth.
- 49:13Speaker 2: But we're so so.
- 49:15Speaker 8: Caught up in like, okay, a billionaire or this or that,
- 49:18Speaker 8: that we're not understanding that once you get to that level,
- 49:21Speaker 8: there's even more there's even more obstacles that are ahead
- 49:26Speaker 8: of you. To kind of say my experience in that is,
- 49:31Speaker 8: I want to tell you about this story about me
- 49:33Speaker 8: running the marathon. So I decided to run a marathon,
- 49:38Speaker 8: and I decided like six weeks before the marathon. Yeah,
- 49:42Speaker 8: I was crazy. You usually gotta train eight months. I
- 49:47Speaker 8: only ran like ten days before. You know, I was
- 49:51Speaker 8: partying the days before. And on the tenth mile, I
- 49:56Speaker 8: hit a wall and I felt like I was literally
- 50:01Speaker 8: gonna die and I wanted to stop. I hit that level,
- 50:05Speaker 8: I hit that ceiling in business, but I had to
- 50:09Speaker 8: keep going. So I'm in pain, I'm struggling, but I
- 50:14Speaker 8: had to keep going.
- 50:16Speaker 2: And that's kind.
- 50:18Speaker 8: Of a metaphor, you know, for my life and for
- 50:22Speaker 8: everybody who is in here that's on the road of
- 50:25Speaker 8: being an entrepreneur. It's a marathon, not a sprint. You're
- 50:29Speaker 8: gonna hit these obstacles, and there's different levels, there's different miles,
- 50:34Speaker 8: there's different levels of intensity. And so I was able
- 50:39Speaker 8: to make it and finish the marathon, and I was
- 50:43Speaker 8: able to kind of take that with me and apply
- 50:45Speaker 8: it to business. And so, you know, at this point,
- 50:51Speaker 8: you know, in the position that I'm in, I had
- 50:56Speaker 8: to really look at like, what does you know the
- 50:58Speaker 8: next half of my life look like? And I had
- 51:02Speaker 8: to really really really look at what I wanted to
- 51:05Speaker 8: do and make sure that I finished this marathon the
- 51:09Speaker 8: right way because because me just completing the race, that
- 51:13Speaker 8: ain't what I want to do.
- 51:15Speaker 2: I want to win the race. I want to win
- 51:18Speaker 2: the race. I want us to win the race.
- 51:21Speaker 3: It's interesting.
- 51:22Speaker 4: So it's thirty years of business for yeah, it's fifty
- 51:25Speaker 4: years of hip hop. When we met, you looked at
- 51:29Speaker 4: us and you said, I love y'all brothers, because what
- 51:33Speaker 4: y'all been able to do, we've never been able to
- 51:35Speaker 4: do in hip hop.
- 51:36Speaker 5: And that's make it cool to be educated.
- 51:39Speaker 4: So when I wonder when you look at the landscape
- 51:42Speaker 4: from your perspective right, because you are at a different level,
- 51:46Speaker 4: do you feel encouraged about this movement of financial power,
- 51:51Speaker 4: financial literacy, financial education that you're seeing.
- 51:55Speaker 8: I mean, I love what you guys are doing. I
- 51:57Speaker 8: love what you guys are doing. The beauty about everybody
- 52:02Speaker 8: here is they took that step. Everybody here, y'all took
- 52:06Speaker 8: that step. Y'all took accountability to come here and learn,
- 52:09Speaker 8: give yourselves around the applause. Nobody's hiding the knowledge, just
- 52:19Speaker 8: not like no secret conspiracy that they're hide in the knowledge.
- 52:22Speaker 8: You have to make a decision that you want to
- 52:24Speaker 8: be financially literate.
- 52:26Speaker 2: You have to make that decision.
- 52:27Speaker 8: And so you know, seeing you guys be successful, being
- 52:32Speaker 8: able to support y'all and seeing so many come out,
- 52:34Speaker 8: people come out and changing the narrative to the importance
- 52:38Speaker 8: of being financially literate, it's something that I gotta honestly say,
- 52:42Speaker 8: you guys are responsible for You guys are responsible for
- 52:45Speaker 8: that shift.
- 52:46Speaker 2: So I applaud you on that. Thank you.
- 52:50Speaker 8: I want I want to can I circle back to
- 52:53Speaker 8: something not because I want to make sure I give
- 52:55Speaker 8: you the true answer. So he's talking about levels, and
- 52:58Speaker 8: I kind of just got it right now. Even though
- 53:00Speaker 8: the levels in the marathon it goes together, but there's
- 53:05Speaker 8: a level that you get to and you're successful, and
- 53:10Speaker 8: you get to the point of being successful, and as
- 53:13Speaker 8: a black person, there's this thing that kicks in. There's
- 53:18Speaker 8: this jealousy that kicks in, there's this fear that kicks in.
- 53:22Speaker 8: Then they start to burn things down, Then they start
- 53:26Speaker 8: to take the money out the freedom bank. Then they
- 53:29Speaker 8: go back on the forty acres and the mule. Then
- 53:33Speaker 8: we don't deserve our worth. So even Hole Jay, none
- 53:43Speaker 8: of us are immune to it.
- 53:45Speaker 2: He had to sue.
- 53:46Speaker 8: Bacardi to get his worth, like they make us. At
- 53:52Speaker 8: the next level, you think that you've overcome everything, Oh,
- 53:57Speaker 8: I finally made it, and then there's a whole other
- 54:00Speaker 8: army up there that is there to try to push you.
- 54:03Speaker 2: Down the hill.
- 54:05Speaker 8: And that's why from being at the mountaintop, I could
- 54:09Speaker 8: come back down and tell y'all the only way out
- 54:11Speaker 8: of this is if we can unify and combine our forces.
- 54:18Speaker 9: Because what's waiting for you up there, Yo, that's that's all.
- 54:30Speaker 2: That's pretty insightful. That's actually ill.
- 54:32Speaker 6: That's like a metaphor of like you seeing the opposition
- 54:36Speaker 6: on the other side, and you like reporting back, like
- 54:39Speaker 6: letting you know what's happening, like you can't see it,
- 54:42Speaker 6: but I'm actually seeing it. So to the ground troops,
- 54:45Speaker 6: we gotta you know what I'm saying, Like this is
- 54:47Speaker 6: actually crazy. That's that's that's pretty dope that you said that.
- 54:49Speaker 6: I want to ask you this. It's important. You have
- 54:54Speaker 6: dealt with a lot of criticism, right, A lot of
- 54:57Speaker 6: people have villainized your character. Nobody's immune to feeling certain
- 55:03Speaker 6: ways about how people talk about them on social media.
- 55:05Speaker 6: I'd be ready to lose it when somebody talks about
- 55:07Speaker 6: me on social media, so I know, like you know
- 55:09Speaker 6: what I'm saying. Other people that have way bigger followings
- 55:12Speaker 6: than me. It's difficult. And for people just in the crowd, right,
- 55:16Speaker 6: there's always gonna be somebody that's a hater. It's always
- 55:18Speaker 6: gonna be somebody that has something negative to say about somebody,
- 55:21Speaker 6: or somebody has their own narrative. How you able to
- 55:23Speaker 6: deal with that and still, you know, be able to
- 55:25Speaker 6: just keep tunnel vision.
- 55:27Speaker 8: I'm laser focused on the mission, I'm laser focused on change.
- 55:33Speaker 8: I'm laser focused on my purpose. None of that noise
- 55:36Speaker 8: means anything, and you know, I know my truth. You know,
- 55:40Speaker 8: in order to be a leader, I do have to
- 55:43Speaker 8: in this day and age of social media, I do
- 55:46Speaker 8: have to address all types of things that need to
- 55:49Speaker 8: be cleared up.
- 55:50Speaker 2: But it's not because of my ego or being heard.
- 55:56Speaker 8: It's just more about history and right now, internet and
- 56:00Speaker 8: the way things work.
- 56:02Speaker 2: You could read.
- 56:02Speaker 8: Something about somebody and think it's the truth, and so
- 56:06Speaker 8: it's easy to villainize somebody. But I'm comfortable with my
- 56:10Speaker 8: receipts and I know I know my purpose and I
- 56:14Speaker 8: know that I'm sitting here on God's mission. So knowing that,
- 56:19Speaker 8: I don't even really go into the comments and do
- 56:21Speaker 8: that to myself.
- 56:22Speaker 2: You know.
- 56:23Speaker 8: I hear different things that are negative, you hear things
- 56:27Speaker 8: that are positive, you know, and that's life. I gotta
- 56:31Speaker 8: just stay focused, layser focus. I can't get into none
- 56:34Speaker 8: of that noise. I'm on a mission to shake the world,
- 56:38Speaker 8: you know, for my people.
- 56:40Speaker 2: And that's it.
- 56:45Speaker 6: Before we go, I do want to talk about music.
- 56:47Speaker 6: If your opportunity, I know you got a new product
- 56:49Speaker 6: that you're working on. What made you even want to
- 56:51Speaker 6: do that? Thirty years later and still have a passion
- 56:54Speaker 6: for music.
- 56:54Speaker 3: We started with bad Boy. Let's talk about love records.
- 56:56Speaker 8: Yeah, let's talk about love records. Anybody out there, Miss
- 56:59Speaker 8: True R and B.
- 57:02Speaker 2: Makes some noise on about you want to be lovers?
- 57:07Speaker 8: Yeah, So handling all this business, it kinda kind of
- 57:13Speaker 8: messed up my creativity and I stopped being creative. I
- 57:18Speaker 8: stopped doing what I love to do. And I had
- 57:22Speaker 8: to make a decision like, yeah, I want to I
- 57:24Speaker 8: want to fight this fight. But at the same time,
- 57:26Speaker 8: I want to be happy. And so music is the
- 57:29Speaker 8: thing that makes me happy. Music is the thing that
- 57:32Speaker 8: makes me feel like a child. Music is the thing
- 57:35Speaker 8: that saved my life. And so getting a second chance
- 57:39Speaker 8: when I when I took control of just like, okay,
- 57:42Speaker 8: I'm a really take control of my future. And I said,
- 57:47Speaker 8: I need to do things that I love to do.
- 57:49Speaker 8: I know that I'm successful in business, but these zooms
- 57:52Speaker 8: is killing me, begging, these people are killing me and
- 57:57Speaker 8: all that stuff.
- 57:57Speaker 2: And I was like, man, I got to get back
- 57:59Speaker 2: to my love.
- 58:00Speaker 8: And so I made an album called The Love Album
- 58:03Speaker 8: Off the Grid. It comes out September fifteenth, and it's
- 58:07Speaker 8: really my love story and it's It's performed about me
- 58:12Speaker 8: through some of my favorite through the talents of some
- 58:16Speaker 8: of my favorite artists in the world, from Jasmine Sullivan
- 58:20Speaker 8: to Summer Walker to The Weekend.
- 58:25Speaker 2: And so on and something Mary J. Blige.
- 58:28Speaker 8: It's almost like this it's the super Bowl of R
- 58:30Speaker 8: and B. This is the super Bowl of hustlers. The
- 58:33Speaker 8: Love album is the super Bowl of R and B.
- 58:35Speaker 3: Love love, love, love, love, love, love love.
- 58:40Speaker 2: So this this is invest fast right.
- 58:42Speaker 6: So this is like you know when you go to
- 58:45Speaker 6: like these musical festivals, and big moments happen at these
- 58:49Speaker 6: type of festivals. So I felt like invest Fest, a
- 58:54Speaker 6: big moment has to happen in front of.
- 58:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I got I got a doubtand people. I mean,
- 58:59Speaker 2: it's a super it's just super were throwing.
- 59:03Speaker 8: What we're gonna do is we're gonna move, We're gonna
- 59:06Speaker 8: move with action.
- 59:07Speaker 2: We're gonna change your tone.
- 59:09Speaker 8: We're gonna start to put our money where our mouth
- 59:11Speaker 8: is and start investing in each other and with each other.
- 59:15Speaker 8: Everybody asked a question, why why don't y'all get together
- 59:18Speaker 8: and all do something that's exactly what we have to do.
- 59:21Speaker 8: So I feel like right now is a perfect place
- 59:24Speaker 8: to start to do that, and what you guys have
- 59:27Speaker 8: done for financial literacy, I think it's time that shall
- 59:33Speaker 8: go to the next level.
- 59:35Speaker 2: It's time to go to the next level. So I
- 59:36Speaker 2: got let me, let me get that.
- 59:38Speaker 8: Corey please, got something I want to present to y'all.
- 59:42Speaker 2: Yeah, and Milly.
- 59:45Speaker 4: Yeah, oh boy, yeah, oh boy, yeah yeah.

- 1:00:09Speaker 2: Only Crystal Clay in front of everybody. I'm getting that.
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: Watched that you got No, no, I hear you.
- 1:00:14Speaker 8: Guys always talk about what you want to invest in
- 1:00:16Speaker 8: and what you're doing. And I know you have your
- 1:00:18Speaker 8: own investments, but I wanted to create a fund that
- 1:00:20Speaker 8: was special so you guys can invest and show people
- 1:00:24Speaker 8: through this investment how you're making money. And also all
- 1:00:28Speaker 8: of the proceeds of this are going to go to
- 1:00:33Speaker 8: my schools in New York, Capital Prep.
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: After three schools in.
- 1:00:38Speaker 8: New York, one of the Bronx, one in my neighborhood,
- 1:00:41Speaker 8: Hall and Want in Connecticut. So far, so as partners,
- 1:00:46Speaker 8: my piece is going to the school, and your piece
- 1:00:50Speaker 8: is going to whoever you want.
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: To give it to I would give it. I would
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: give it to myself first. Nah.
- 1:00:57Speaker 6: So what we're going through is like Diddy said, man
- 1:01:00Speaker 6: giving us a million dollars. You watch market mondays all
- 1:01:02Speaker 6: the time, you watch on your liege all the time.
- 1:01:04Speaker 6: You always talk about investing, so you know, put your
- 1:01:06Speaker 6: money where your mouth is, right, So this is gonna
- 1:01:08Speaker 6: be opportunity. We're gonna actually create content around it. We're
- 1:01:11Speaker 6: gonna do different investments. So we're gonna show you, guys
- 1:01:14Speaker 6: how we're actually investing the money. And like he says,
- 1:01:16Speaker 6: the proceeds of that will go to charity, and it's
- 1:01:20Speaker 6: just why not. Man, So Diddy a legend of the game,
- 1:01:23Speaker 6: a million dollars cash.
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: I want to I ain't gonna lie that's kind of
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: ill right here.
- 1:01:40Speaker 8: Yeah, man, Nah, I just want to be clear on
- 1:01:44Speaker 8: the importance of us really unifying, of us not being
- 1:01:49Speaker 8: afraid to invest in each other, of us starting to
- 1:01:52Speaker 8: trust each other. We gotta start trusting each other, we
- 1:01:55Speaker 8: gotta start loving each other, we gotta start supporting each other.
