- 0:00Speaker 1: The Mark Simone Show, live from the WOR LifeVac studios.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Hey, let's take some calls. Let's go to Kira Bethpage. Kira,
- 0:11Speaker 2: how are you doing?
- 0:12Speaker 1: Good, how are you?
- 0:14Speaker 2: Good.
- 0:15Speaker 3: I have two questions. Do you think the daylight savings
- 0:21Speaker 3: time is going to stick? Because they were talking about it,
- 0:24Speaker 3: and then they stopped talking about it. And then Trump
- 0:28Speaker 3: keeps pushing it, but nobody's talking about it.
- 0:30Speaker 2: No, it didn't pass this time. It will not be
- 0:33Speaker 2: here in time for this year, but next year, hopefully
- 0:36Speaker 2: you get it. The senator, I'm blanking out his name,
- 0:39Speaker 2: from Arizona was the one that voted against it and
- 0:42Speaker 2: stopped it.
- 0:44Speaker 3: So one senator.
- 0:47Speaker 2: The vote was that close that, yeah, they lost his vote. Arizona, no,
- 0:51Speaker 2: it's Arkansas. Arkansas doesn't want it because they're right on
- 0:54Speaker 2: the cusp of a time zone. which means almost an
- 0:58Speaker 2: hour difference. So it would have been dark out in
- 1:01Speaker 2: Arkansas until about 8.30, and they didn't want to do that.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Okay, and my other question is, did Trump know that
- 1:14Speaker 3: they probably won't get the House, but he offered the
- 1:17Speaker 3: $ 5, 000 to everybody? Was that a ploy?
- 1:21Speaker 2: A ploy from Donald Trump. Trump doing a ploy. Why?
- 1:25Speaker 2: I can't imagine such a thing. I can't imagine.
- 1:28Speaker 4: Oh, my gosh.
- 1:28Speaker 3: You don't think so?
- 1:30Speaker 2: Well, it looks very good for the Senate, for Republicans,
- 1:33Speaker 2: and the House is pretty much could go either way
- 1:35Speaker 2: right now. Yes, it's a ploy. Obviously, it's a ploy.
- 1:39Speaker 2: It's like Oprah Winfrey with you get a car, you
- 1:41Speaker 2: get a car. That's what ploys are. It's like Biden
- 1:44Speaker 2: with the Biden phone or the Obama phone or Biden
- 1:47Speaker 2: with I'll forgive your student loans. That's what politics is,
- 1:50Speaker 2: a series of ploys. That's what a campaign is. But
- 1:53Speaker 2: thanks for calling, Kira. Good call. Let's go to Barney
- 1:57Speaker 2: in New Jersey. Barney, how you doing?
- 2:01Speaker 5: Hi, Mark.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Yes.
- 2:03Speaker 5: Bernie, the dinosaur. I'm announcing I'm throwing my hat in
- 2:07Speaker 5: the ring as a Democrat candidate for president.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Oh, great, great.
- 2:13Speaker 5: The Democrats have been running dinosaurs for years. There was
- 2:16Speaker 5: Hillary and Bernie and Biden. They need a dinosaur this year.
- 2:22Speaker 2: All right, great. This is really funny. What a great call. Good. Anyway,
- 2:30Speaker 2: let's go to John in Ronkonkoma. John, how are you doing?
- 2:36Speaker 1: Hey, I'm doing good, Mark.
- 2:37Speaker 4: I'm taking the call. I've got a couple of things.
- 2:38Speaker 5: I've got to follow that call.
- 2:40Speaker 6: Anyway, why do we.
- 2:41Speaker 4: Need these pop-up bagels in New York when you can
- 2:44Speaker 4: get bagels at any deli, get great bagels? You've got
- 2:46Speaker 4: bagel shops on every corner.
- 2:47Speaker 2: I'm telling you, they're pretty good. It must not just
- 2:49Speaker 2: be me. They're catching on. Have you had one? Have
- 2:53Speaker 2: you had one? Have you had one?
- 2:55Speaker 5: I have not yet.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Okay. Don't say anything.
- 2:58Speaker 4: Are they all in Long Island yet? I haven't seen them.
- 3:00Speaker 2: There's one in Garden City. There's about to be one in, uh, honey,
- 3:04Speaker 2: go to the website, pop up bagels, look it up.
- 3:06Speaker 2: I'm sure they're got a few in Long Island. Just
- 3:08Speaker 2: try it.
- 3:09Speaker 5: I'll have to check it out.
- 3:10Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 3:10Speaker 5: All right.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Take care. They're softer, fluffier. Uh, they're absolutely delicious. Listen,
- 3:18Speaker 2: I was opposed to them at first. They kind of
- 3:21Speaker 2: won me over and, uh, Every morning I come in,
- 3:24Speaker 2: I always walk down there by Elvis Duran's Z100 because
- 3:27Speaker 2: very often there's a pop-up bagel buffet there. It wasn't today,
- 3:30Speaker 2: but let's go to Phil in Suffolk County. Phil, how
- 3:34Speaker 2: you doing?
- 3:35Speaker 1: Yes, hello, Mark.
- 3:37Speaker 5: Greta Thunberg.
- 3:38Speaker 2: What, are you rolled up inside a rug? We can
- 3:41Speaker 2: barely hear you.
- 3:42Speaker 5: I'm sorry.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Greta Thunberg, the sweetheart of climate change.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Greta Thunberg, yeah.
- 3:51Speaker 4: Turned.
- 3:52Speaker 5: Turned Gaza sympathizer.
- 3:54Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 3:55Speaker 5: And now she's inserting herself in the French riots.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I'm sorry the sound quality is bad, but maybe you
- 4:02Speaker 1: could comment.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Well, there's nothing to comment on. She's a crazy lunatic,
- 4:05Speaker 2: always on the wrong side of everything. She's a radical lunatic,
- 4:09Speaker 2: chaos-creating radical. How old is she now? Probably 58 now.
- 4:13Speaker 2: She was with that climate change nonsense. What was she,
- 4:17Speaker 2: like 15 then? How long ago was that? So she's
- 4:20Speaker 2: got to be like 30 now. Greta Thunberg, the most ineffective,
- 4:25Speaker 2: useless agitator ever. She got a lot of attention for
- 4:28Speaker 2: five minutes, then everybody forgot about her. What did you say? Oh, 23. Oh,
- 4:34Speaker 2: so maybe she was 13 back then. Or maybe it
- 4:36Speaker 2: wasn't as long ago as I thought. Let's go to
- 4:39Speaker 2: Mike in Ulster. Mike, how you doing?
- 4:42Speaker 1: Good morning, Mark. I'd just like to comment on the
- 4:45Speaker 1: gubernatorial election that's coming up.
- 4:48Speaker 5: Go ahead.
- 4:49Speaker 1: I found it strange that Adrienne Adams had been picked
- 4:53Speaker 1: as Hochul's running mate. I think that Hochul had nothing
- 4:57Speaker 1: to do with that. I think the party picked her,
- 4:59Speaker 1: and God forbid Hochul gets reelected, I think they've already
- 5:02Speaker 1: got plans to oust her and elevate Adrienne Adams to
- 5:06Speaker 1: the governorship.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Yeah, you're right. They should have made more out of
- 5:09Speaker 2: this in the election. Her running mate is a lunatic, radical,
- 5:12Speaker 2: left-wing kook, Adrienne Adams. Hockel's from upstate New York, so
- 5:16Speaker 2: you always have to balance the ticket with somebody from
- 5:18Speaker 2: the New York City area. Adrienne Adams, a kooky, left-wing,
- 5:22Speaker 2: dangerous radical. That's her running mate. Let's go to John
- 5:28Speaker 2: in Long Island. John, how are you doing?
- 5:31Speaker 4: Hey, Mark. I'm doing great.
- 5:32Speaker 6: Thanks for taking the call. I wanted to touch base
- 5:34Speaker 6: on something that you talked about yesterday about the.
- 5:35Speaker 5: Credit card fees.
- 5:36Speaker 4: People are asking why.
- 5:37Speaker 6: I own a couple of small businesses. Before, they used
- 5:42Speaker 6: to be all cash businesses. But now with the credit cards,
- 5:45Speaker 6: instead of charging somebody a dollar, I'm charging somebody $ 1. 75.
- 5:47Speaker 6: Because not only is the credit card company taking money,
- 5:51Speaker 6: but also the taxes. I used to pay a quarterly
- 5:54Speaker 6: tax of about $ 3, 000. Now, because everything's showing, I'm paying.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Quarterly taxes of about $ 25, 000 per store.
- 5:59Speaker 5: Okay, but wait.
- 6:00Speaker 4: If I hand you $ 10 to your business, you got $ 10.
- 6:01Speaker 2: If I pay with my credit card $ 10, how much
- 6:03Speaker 2: do you end up with from that?
- 6:11Speaker 4: I'm getting about $ 875. Wait, you're telling me the credit
- 6:14Speaker 4: card company takes $ 1.
- 6:15Speaker 2: 25 out of $ 10? Well, the credit card company takes
- 6:17Speaker 2: it two ways, coming and going.
- 6:25Speaker 4: Plus, you have the cash register fee. They're taking money,
- 6:30Speaker 4: plus the bank's taking money. Plus, I get taxed on
- 6:33Speaker 4: top of all that stuff, too.
- 6:34Speaker 2: All right, wait a minute. When you use your credit card,
- 6:36Speaker 2: you pay like whatever little 3% for the credit card company.
- 6:39Speaker 2: So now the machine that you use to run the
- 6:41Speaker 2: credit card, they take a percentage of it?
- 6:44Speaker 4: They get either 1% or 2%, right? Then the bank
- 6:48Speaker 4: takes money. Right, for their fees. And then the tax
- 6:52Speaker 4: man comes along and he takes it.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Oh, okay. So I didn't realize. I forgot that machine
- 6:57Speaker 2: you run it through.
- 6:58Speaker 4: Yeah, just as Vincent from Brooklyn. I'm sure he knows
- 7:01Speaker 4: about cash.
- 7:02Speaker 2: He's based cash. But no, it's a good point. Excellent point.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Thanks for calling. Hey, when we come back, Bill O'Reilly.
- 7:08Speaker 2: We'll talk to him next about the midterms and a
- 7:10Speaker 2: lot of other stuff coming up on 710WOR.
