- 0:51Speaker 1: computer by subscribing wherever you get your podcasts. It's the
- 0:55Speaker 1: greatest thing since Mike Turco. A couple of weeks ago,
- 1:00Speaker 1: the NBC sportscaster called his first Super Bowl, then immediately
- 1:05Speaker 1: went down on the field and hosted primetime coverage of
- 1:09Speaker 1: the Olympics. After a quick trip to his hotel to
- 1:12Speaker 1: pick up his stuff, Mike then traveled six thousand miles
- 1:16Speaker 1: to Italy, a ten and a half hour flight to
- 1:19Speaker 1: continue hosting Olympic coverage on location the following night. I've
- 1:25Speaker 1: known Mike since he was a teenager. We were classmates
- 1:28Speaker 1: together at Syracuse University, and I knew then that he
- 1:31Speaker 1: was going to be a huge success. But it's still
- 1:34Speaker 1: a little bit crazy to see one of your college
- 1:37Speaker 1: buddies become one of the best sports broadcasters in history.
- 1:41Speaker 1: When it comes to combining hosting skills with play by playability, Mike,
- 1:47Speaker 1: Bob Costas, and Jim Nantz are at the top of
- 1:50Speaker 1: the pyramid. Now let's get to football. The NFL Draft
- 1:55Speaker 1: is a little more than two months away, but I
- 1:58Speaker 1: know that many of you have already zeroed in on
- 2:01Speaker 1: the player you are hoping the Bengals select with the
- 2:04Speaker 1: tenth overall pick. On this episode of the pod, I'm
- 2:07Speaker 1: going to focus on eight players who have been connected
- 2:11Speaker 1: to Cincinnati on mock drafts and talk to experts who
- 2:14Speaker 1: have watched them play. My Elite eight includes three Ohio
- 2:19Speaker 1: State Buckeyes who are all expected to be first round picks.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Six three three hundred twenty six pound defensive tackle Caden
- 2:26Speaker 1: McDonald six two hundred and forty three pound linebacker Sonny
- 2:30Speaker 1: Styles and six feet two hundred five pound safety Caleb Downs,
- 2:35Speaker 1: the players selected by the Bengals in more mock drafts
- 2:38Speaker 1: than any other. We are joined by Ohio State radio
- 2:43Speaker 1: analyst and former NFL Pro Bowl offensive lineman Jim Leche.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Jim.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Let's start with safety Caleb Downs. One scouting report that
- 2:50Speaker 1: I read referred to him as a generational talent at
- 2:54Speaker 1: the safety position. Do you think he's that good?
- 2:59Speaker 3: You know, I've had the good fortunately watching a lot
- 3:01Speaker 3: of great safeties, you know, come through Ohio State in
- 3:04Speaker 3: my last twenty nine years of doing the Buckeye games.
- 3:07Speaker 3: You know, Mike DAWs comes to the forefront, Malie Cooker,
- 3:10Speaker 3: Dante Whittner, Von Bell, Damon Moore, and then I heard
- 3:15Speaker 3: a lot of great stories about Mike Sensenball and of
- 3:18Speaker 3: course you can't leave out Jack Tatum.
- 3:20Speaker 2: But I think Caleb is a little bit of all
- 3:22Speaker 2: those guys. You know.
- 3:24Speaker 3: We came to Ohio State obviously from Alabama, and from
- 3:28Speaker 3: day one, he fit right into the program. Very mature athlete,
- 3:33Speaker 3: does what he has to do off the field.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Zero issues. He's a leader of the team.
- 3:38Speaker 3: He was a leader from really the first day that
- 3:40Speaker 3: he got here, and then you got to look at production.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Right at Alabama, he had one hundred tackles his freshman year,
- 3:47Speaker 3: came here to Ohio.
- 3:48Speaker 2: State, you know, ended up with two hundred and fifty.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Seven tackles for his career, one hundred and forty nine
- 3:53Speaker 3: at Ohio State. You know, just was an all purpose
- 3:56Speaker 3: type player. You know, he's kind of teased about not
- 4:00Speaker 3: get enough interceptions. He had four interceptions here the ohis
- 4:03Speaker 3: of State, six in his career.
- 4:04Speaker 2: But he's a guy that it was.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Dependable, you know, didn't have any injury problems, very durable athlete.
- 4:11Speaker 3: But you know, just again off the field, there were
- 4:14Speaker 3: zero issues with this guy. Just a great person, a
- 4:16Speaker 3: good guy, you know, good family guy, and you know
- 4:20Speaker 3: he comes from a good family of athletes, with his
- 4:22Speaker 3: dad playing gary and his brother obviously playing wide receiver
- 4:26Speaker 3: with the Colts. But they came here, fit right into
- 4:29Speaker 3: the program. You know, went through two different coordinators, which
- 4:32Speaker 3: with Jim Knowles and then Matt Patricia his final year,
- 4:36Speaker 3: and you know, picked up everything in a hurry and
- 4:39Speaker 3: not only picked it up, but you know, got everybody
- 4:41Speaker 3: else coached up and where they needed to be so
- 4:44Speaker 3: it's this one of those guys that you didn't have
- 4:45Speaker 3: to worry about that position. And it's so important to have,
- 4:49Speaker 3: you know, veteran type guys in that secondary understand what
- 4:51Speaker 3: they need to do, understand what really everybody needs to do.
- 4:55Speaker 3: And then you go out and you watch him play right,
- 4:57Speaker 3: I mean, you know, very good in coverage, very good
- 5:01Speaker 3: at run support.
- 5:02Speaker 2: You know his ability.
- 5:05Speaker 3: I guess last year or two years ago in the
- 5:07Speaker 3: National Championship year twenty four where they had him, you know,
- 5:11Speaker 3: playing a little bit close to the line of scrimmage
- 5:13Speaker 3: almost you know, kind of backing up the linebackers near
- 5:16Speaker 3: the line of scrimmage for.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Him to see him recognize.
- 5:20Speaker 3: You know, the offense what they're doing, the hole where
- 5:22Speaker 3: the backs getting the ball and then knife in there
- 5:24Speaker 3: to get you know, go through blockers. Was impressive to
- 5:27Speaker 3: seeing this sure tackler, you know, a guy that done
- 5:29Speaker 3: miss tackles and also has ability.
- 5:32Speaker 2: To you know, play on special teams.
- 5:33Speaker 3: I think everybody remembers his you know, big part of
- 5:36Speaker 3: returning against Indiana in twenty twenty four that helped kind
- 5:39Speaker 3: of turn that ball game and get the momentum of
- 5:41Speaker 3: Ohio Stadium behind him. But just a fabulous guy and
- 5:44Speaker 3: a fableous athlete, and he's got all the measurables. You know,
- 5:46Speaker 3: he's big, you know, big enough for a safety. He's fast,
- 5:51Speaker 3: he's strong, and again the most important thing, he played
- 5:54Speaker 3: every ball game. So it's a guy that you can
- 5:55Speaker 3: count on to be back there and make plays.
- 5:58Speaker 1: He was a captain at Ohio State. You reference the
- 6:01Speaker 1: fact that his dad played in the NFL. He's got
- 6:03Speaker 1: a brother that's currently playing in the NFL, So it
- 6:06Speaker 1: sounds like the intangibles are extremely high in your view.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Does that help make the case that he's worthy of
- 6:14Speaker 1: being a top ten pick because safeties generally are not
- 6:17Speaker 1: taken in the top ten.
- 6:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:20Speaker 3: I think when you look at some of the safeties
- 6:22Speaker 3: that recently has success, they were lower round draft choices
- 6:25Speaker 3: who just kind of picked it up. But I think,
- 6:27Speaker 3: you know, this is a guy's of generational type talents,
- 6:30Speaker 3: you know, because again of all the whole package, you know,
- 6:33Speaker 3: he's got the he's got the gene pool, so to
- 6:36Speaker 3: speak with his family.
- 6:38Speaker 2: You know, this guy, his dad, his brother playing in.
- 6:40Speaker 3: The NFL, the way he can diagnose things, just the
- 6:44Speaker 3: way he is.
- 6:45Speaker 2: On and off the field.
- 6:47Speaker 3: You know, there's just not many times you get a
- 6:48Speaker 3: guy like Keyaale Downs and you know, he's the guy
- 6:51Speaker 3: that I think that once you have him on your
- 6:53Speaker 3: team as physician, you don't have to worry about for
- 6:55Speaker 3: ten years. I mean, this guy's going to go out
- 6:57Speaker 3: and make plays. He's going to do the things on
- 6:59Speaker 3: and off the two what you need to do great leaders.
- 7:02Speaker 3: You mentioned being a captain for Ohio State. You know,
- 7:05Speaker 3: he came in here and just everybody kind of looked
- 7:07Speaker 3: up to him. And the really the only time that
- 7:10Speaker 3: you know he asked off for a practice or it
- 7:13Speaker 3: wasn't his choice, it was kind of a load management
- 7:16Speaker 3: through US spring ball, right, He's like, hey man, you
- 7:18Speaker 3: played a thousand stamps for you don't need to go today.
- 7:21Speaker 3: But watching those practices, he would be standing.
- 7:23Speaker 2: On the sideline Coach and everybody, uh, you know, just
- 7:26Speaker 2: inching to.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Get out there there and make plays. So he's the
- 7:29Speaker 3: guy that loves football. He loves practice, he loves the preparation,
- 7:33Speaker 3: and certainly that shows up on game day.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Jim, Let's turn to Sonny Styles because he's an interesting
- 7:39Speaker 1: case where the Bengals are concerned. They drafted two linebackers
- 7:42Speaker 1: last year. Those two guys started at rookies, but they
- 7:46Speaker 1: were very inconsistent. So drafting another linebacker isn't out of
- 7:50Speaker 1: the question. What do you think of Sonny as an
- 7:53Speaker 1: NFL prospect?
- 7:55Speaker 2: Great coverage. I mean, he's a guy that you know,
- 7:57Speaker 2: started as a safety here at Ohio State.
- 7:59Speaker 3: You know this, this is the guy that I've known
- 8:01Speaker 3: really since he's been in like sixth seventh grade. You know,
- 8:04Speaker 3: he would play basketball against my son Luke and AAU
- 8:09Speaker 3: and just to see how athletic he was on the
- 8:11Speaker 3: basketball court, he knew it would translate.
- 8:14Speaker 2: And then when he got to you know.
- 8:15Speaker 3: The football field, he's playing safety, was a big safety
- 8:18Speaker 3: back there, long arms, could reach, great coverage. Then they
- 8:22Speaker 3: moved him down in the box, and I go, okay,
- 8:24Speaker 3: now you got to play against offensive guards and centers
- 8:26Speaker 3: and tackles and you know, take on tiends blocks, and
- 8:30Speaker 3: you know, I think at first he had to kind
- 8:32Speaker 3: of work his way through that.
- 8:34Speaker 2: But once he developed, he gets stronger.
- 8:36Speaker 3: He got up to two hundred and forty some pounds
- 8:37Speaker 3: you know, from the two twenty range.
- 8:39Speaker 2: It didn't slow him down one bit.
- 8:41Speaker 3: It showed he showed he had all that ability. And
- 8:43Speaker 3: again it was a very productive guy. Just twenty one
- 8:46Speaker 3: years old, right, I mean he's he'll be twenty two
- 8:48Speaker 3: in his running.
- 8:49Speaker 2: You know, in November of his rookie year in the NFL.
- 8:52Speaker 3: There's there's not many guys that have that much football
- 8:54Speaker 3: underneath their belt.
- 8:55Speaker 2: That you know.
- 8:57Speaker 3: Came to Ohio State, which should have been his senior
- 8:59Speaker 3: year in high school, was on the field, contributing on
- 9:02Speaker 3: special teams, got a chance to play, and then was
- 9:05Speaker 3: a starter, you know, pretty much the rest of the
- 9:07Speaker 3: time out and you know, showed up and.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Got it down. You know, I kid it, Sonny. He
- 9:11Speaker 2: only had one interception at Ohio State. We were like, wow,
- 9:15Speaker 2: you fin he can catch. He finally got his hands
- 9:17Speaker 2: on football. We you know, gave him a hard time
- 9:19Speaker 2: about that a little bit. But just a humble guy. Again,
- 9:22Speaker 2: comes from good.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Fam I know his father, Lorenzo, you know, in his
- 9:26Speaker 3: time here at Ohio State, and got to know him
- 9:29Speaker 3: in the last couple of years on standing on the
- 9:31Speaker 3: sidelines again and watching practice and watching these guys work, just.
- 9:34Speaker 2: You know, an all American type guy that you.
- 9:36Speaker 3: Know, worked really hard, had forty three starts underneath his belt.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Here another guy that's.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Been durable's been able to you know, make make every game,
- 9:45Speaker 3: every practice. You know, it works extremely hard and loves
- 9:49Speaker 3: the game of football. And you know, when you draft
- 9:51Speaker 3: a guy in the first round, you got to make
- 9:52Speaker 3: sure they love football, because there's some guys you draft
- 9:54Speaker 3: early that just you know, wants a paycheck, right, I mean,
- 9:57Speaker 3: you know, football come becomes secondary. I don't think that's
- 10:01Speaker 3: the issue with a guy like Sonny Styles because again
- 10:03Speaker 3: on and off the field, just a great guy, does
- 10:06Speaker 3: great things in the community.
- 10:08Speaker 2: You know, along with his brother Lorenzo Styles Junior.
- 10:11Speaker 3: Both those guys have been great assets to a hot
- 10:13Speaker 3: state football program.
- 10:15Speaker 2: And then has.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Developed that strength where he can take on offensive line
- 10:19Speaker 3: and you saw him, especially in the Michigan game, fighting
- 10:21Speaker 3: off a lot of different guys, a lot of different
- 10:23Speaker 3: blocks and making tackles. I mean, when the games wh
- 10:26Speaker 3: it's a big time game, he figures out a way
- 10:28Speaker 3: to stand out.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Again, that's another quality that he has.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Jin the linebackers they took last year were second and
- 10:35Speaker 1: fourth round picks, So if they dip into the draft
- 10:37Speaker 1: again for another linebacker, especially tenth overall, he would have
- 10:41Speaker 1: to have Pro Bowl potential. Do you think Sonny has
- 10:44Speaker 1: that kind of ceiling.
- 10:46Speaker 3: I think he does again just because of his range,
- 10:49Speaker 3: you know, being six' four two hundred and forty, pounds
- 10:52Speaker 3: he can.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Run you, know he can make plays.
- 10:55Speaker 3: NOW i think early on this year you saw Rl
- 10:58Speaker 3: rees another great, linebacker high, stay kind of flash and
- 11:01Speaker 3: make all those type of. Plays you're, like where's this?
- 11:03Speaker 3: Guy you, know Where's? Arvel where's he? Been What sonny?
- 11:06Speaker 3: Did he continued to do it all year. LONG i
- 11:09Speaker 3: Think arvel might have a little drop off towards the
- 11:11Speaker 3: end of the. Year, again people got film on him
- 11:13Speaker 3: and understood what he could, do SO i wanted to
- 11:15Speaker 3: make sure they took Out. Arville sonny picked up the.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Slack so he's the guy that doesn't need to be the.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Guy he's still going to go out there and do his.
- 11:22Speaker 3: Job and then towards the end of the, year he
- 11:25Speaker 3: was one of our most dependable linebackers out there in the. Field,
- 11:28Speaker 3: again very knowledgeable because he cause you, know he's played
- 11:30Speaker 3: in the back. End he understands what the defensive line can,
- 11:34Speaker 3: do can rush your pasture if need, be you, know
- 11:37Speaker 3: from that outside linebacker, position and then he can nail
- 11:40Speaker 3: things down. Inside and he's showing the physicality that he
- 11:43Speaker 3: needs to play.
- 11:44Speaker 2: LINEBACKER i think in THE.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Nfl, finally there's defensive Tackle cayden. McDonald he is typically
- 11:50Speaker 1: listed as a later first round, pick so if The
- 11:52Speaker 1: bengals wind up with, him it might be in a
- 11:54Speaker 1: trade back. Scenario what will a team get that Selects Cayden, WELL.
- 12:00Speaker 2: I think he really came.
- 12:01Speaker 3: On you, know he's just a three year, guy, right
- 12:03Speaker 3: so he's had a freshman.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Year we kind of got on the field just a little.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Bit his sophomore.
- 12:09Speaker 3: YEAR i guess his breakout game would probably be That
- 12:12Speaker 3: Penn state.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Game Penn state had a first in goal For mike.
- 12:15Speaker 3: The three or four yard, line and they put him
- 12:18Speaker 3: over the center and he was jacked up.
- 12:20Speaker 2: That center each and every time and led the negative
- 12:22Speaker 2: plays a couple of.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Times buckey's got a four down stop there on fourth
- 12:26Speaker 3: down and you, know ended up driving out the offense
- 12:29Speaker 3: coming in the field to drive at the. Clock but
- 12:30Speaker 3: that was the first time That kate McDonald really stepped
- 12:34Speaker 3: up there and, dominated you, know playing behind.
- 12:37Speaker 2: You, know a couple of really good football.
- 12:39Speaker 3: Players ahead of, Him Tylee williams being, one that he
- 12:42Speaker 3: was able to come up there and you, know get
- 12:44Speaker 3: his opportunity and, again off the, field just a great.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Kid we've interviewed him several times on a, radio got
- 12:51Speaker 3: a chance to talk to him. Practice just a nice
- 12:54Speaker 3: guy that you, know really works.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Hard but kind of turns that switch when.
- 12:57Speaker 3: He gets on the. Field it becomes a violent. Guy you,
- 13:00Speaker 3: know he'll not get guard two feet back in the.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Backfield he'll knock the center. Back you, know he's got
- 13:05Speaker 3: some ability on pass rush and just a good. Job
- 13:08Speaker 3: does a great. JOB i think of defeating, blocks you,
- 13:11Speaker 3: know whether it's double, teams it's backside. Blocks he's able
- 13:14Speaker 3: to get underneath that pressure and has the strength that he,
- 13:17Speaker 3: can you, know again push other people, backwards and that's
- 13:19Speaker 3: what you want out of defensive. Tackle on just you,
- 13:22Speaker 3: know limited playing. Time you, know he's a guy that
- 13:25Speaker 3: again really just came on this. Year we saw flashes
- 13:29Speaker 3: his sophomore, year this junior. Year he owned, it you,
- 13:32Speaker 3: know one of the best in the. Country you, know
- 13:34Speaker 3: ended up being An All american and had a terrific.
- 13:36Speaker 2: CAREER i loved to have him back here a lot
- 13:38Speaker 2: of things for another. Year BUT i think he's got
- 13:41Speaker 2: big things that you know for him in the.
- 13:43Speaker 3: Future in THE nfl and the guy that can you,
- 13:45Speaker 3: know makes a lot of, plays you, know throughout the
- 13:48Speaker 3: course of his, career and, again just a guy that
- 13:51Speaker 3: you would like to have on your team because the type.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Of person he.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Is let me follow up on pass, rush because The
- 13:57Speaker 1: bengals desperately need somebody who can give them an interior.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Push most of the Stuff i've read says more of
- 14:05Speaker 1: a run stopper than a pass. Rusher but you alluded
- 14:08Speaker 1: to the fact that he showed some potential there how.
- 14:11Speaker 3: Much, WELL i think that's one area of game that
- 14:14Speaker 3: he's got to continue to work, on you, know because
- 14:16Speaker 3: we had two pretty good edge players That Ohio, State
- 14:19Speaker 3: Katie curry And Kenyatta.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Jackson that was able to get some pressure. INSIDE i
- 14:23Speaker 2: think he's a guy that can.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Do well in the stunt, game so that they run
- 14:27Speaker 3: a te sun or an ety, Stunt he's going to
- 14:30Speaker 3: be the guy that blows up to free somebody up
- 14:33Speaker 3: and then have the build to slip off of make you,
- 14:35Speaker 3: Know mayson Plays mason tackle just three sacks.
- 14:38Speaker 2: You know this.
- 14:39Speaker 3: Year you, know for a defensive, tackle it's probably on
- 14:41Speaker 3: the low. END i think he's got the, ability you,
- 14:44Speaker 3: know as he continues to, mature just again another young football,
- 14:47Speaker 3: player he continues to have a little bit more tools
- 14:50Speaker 3: in his, toolbox and pass rush would be one of
- 14:53Speaker 3: those things that he's going to continue to improve.
- 14:55Speaker 1: On, jim you are a walking encyclopedia where The buckeyes
- 14:59Speaker 1: are can. EARNED i love listening to you And Paul
- 15:01Speaker 1: keels On, saturdays AND i appreciate your time.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Today thanks so. Much oh, damn no. PROBLEM i just
- 15:06Speaker 2: try to stay out Of paul's.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Way When Duke tobin met with The cincinnati media after the,
- 15:13Speaker 1: season he made it clear that improving the pass rush
- 15:16Speaker 1: is a. Priority duke used the expression pass rush is.
- 15:20Speaker 1: KING i did not Ask Jim lache About Ohio state
- 15:24Speaker 1: linebacker and edge Rusher Rvel reese because nearly every mock
- 15:29Speaker 1: draft has him going in the top. Five but the
- 15:32Speaker 1: other top pass rushers in this year's class are worth,
- 15:35Speaker 1: discussing beginning With Ruben, bain the six,' three two hundred
- 15:40Speaker 1: and seventy pounds defensive end who led the nation in
- 15:43Speaker 1: total pressures According To Pro football focus and had nine
- 15:47Speaker 1: and a half sacks this year For The. Miami hurricanes
- 15:51Speaker 1: we are joined By the voice Of The. Miami Hurricanes, Joe,
- 15:54Speaker 1: ZAGAKI joe i have a hard time Believing The ruben
- 15:57Speaker 1: bain will be there at. Number ten Butespn's field yates
- 16:01Speaker 1: recently Had the Bengals taking rubin in, that SPOT so
- 16:05Speaker 1: i suppose it's at. Least possible he Won The Ted
- 16:08Speaker 1: hendricks award as the nation's top defensive end. This year
- 16:11Speaker 1: how do You Describe.
- 16:12Speaker 4: Ruben bain he's just a, great player, great character. Great
- 16:19Speaker 4: person there's nothing Negative About. Ruben BAIN and.
- 16:22Speaker 2: I know as we get closer to, the.
- 16:25Speaker 4: Draft everybody will try to shoot holes in his game
- 16:28Speaker 4: or his size or this, or that but he is
- 16:31Speaker 4: one of the classiest individuals that's ever played For the University.
- 16:36Speaker 4: Of miami, great family tremendous leadership in.
- 16:39Speaker 2: That family he.
- 16:41Speaker 4: Never takes his eye off, the BALL and i just
- 16:44Speaker 4: think he's going to be a LONG time nfl player
- 16:48Speaker 4: because he wants to.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Be great it's important.
- 16:50Speaker 4: To him it's important him to be a, tremendous teammate
- 16:54Speaker 4: and he likes to. Be, Coached, there dan there is
- 16:57Speaker 4: nothing negative to Say about Ruben, Ban.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Well joe as, you noted the combine is, coming up
- 17:03Speaker 1: so this is the point of time where we are
- 17:06Speaker 1: going to try to find, the warts if there. ARE
- 17:08Speaker 1: any i guess the one thing that people say is
- 17:11Speaker 1: that he. Isn't tall he doesn't have. LONG arms nfl
- 17:15Speaker 1: teams love to find that when. They can do you
- 17:18Speaker 1: think his lack of length could be an issue at the.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Next, LEVEL no, i Don't but i'm NOT an nfl.
- 17:26Speaker 4: Defensive mind it's funny arm lengthd all of a sudden
- 17:31Speaker 4: popped up.
- 17:31Speaker 2: This year and HERE'S what i Say About. Reuben bain
- 17:35Speaker 2: if that's.
- 17:36Speaker 4: His, biggest problem then he's going to figure out how
- 17:38Speaker 4: to work.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Around it he, is powerful.
- 17:41Speaker 4: He plays, with energy he plays with, great leverage, he
- 17:46Speaker 4: studies he has an array, of MOVES and i just
- 17:50Speaker 4: think he's one of those players that's not going to.
- 17:53Speaker 4: Be denied his freshman season. Was sensational he got heard
- 17:57Speaker 4: his sophomore season the second play of. The game but
- 18:01Speaker 4: This season white impressed me about him, This year AND
- 18:04Speaker 4: what i would take away from this, season is, you
- 18:07Speaker 4: know you can look at, the numbers the forty, six
- 18:09Speaker 4: tackles thirteen, for losses the.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Nine sacks.
- 18:15Speaker 4: But a lot OF players, i, think well at least
- 18:18Speaker 4: At the University of mind me recently.
- 18:20Speaker 2: They would get to their junior year and they, Would,
- 18:22Speaker 2: Say okay, I'm good we're gonna go TO. The nfl i'm.
- 18:25Speaker 4: Just going to get past. The, season No Not. Ruin
- 18:27Speaker 4: bain he wanted to. Be great he wanted to lift his,
- 18:30Speaker 4: team up put his team on. His shoulders he wanted to.
- 18:33Speaker 4: Be great he wanted to be remembered for doing something that.
- 18:37Speaker 4: Was great he took his team to. The championship he
- 18:40Speaker 4: Was An All American Ted hendricks. Award winner he's not
- 18:44Speaker 4: a player or a person in, The.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Settles joe what's his, motor like whether it's a run or. A, pass.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Yeah, non.
- 18:52Speaker 4: STOP NonStop i think he's really good against. The run
- 18:57Speaker 4: you can play, him inside you can play. Him outside
- 19:00Speaker 4: don't have to take him off. The field he can
- 19:01Speaker 4: play all three Downs. From miami, you know he was
- 19:07Speaker 4: used on the edge.
- 19:08Speaker 2: This season he Came.
- 19:10Speaker 4: To miami to put, him inside so we can play
- 19:12Speaker 4: inside if he. Has to he's the guy, that studies
- 19:16Speaker 4: so no one is ever going to Say that he's
- 19:20Speaker 4: not going to absorb the information or study the tape
- 19:23Speaker 4: or study. The information he just wants to get better all.
- 19:26Speaker 5: The time that.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Great Coaching.
- 19:28Speaker 4: JASON taylor I thought i did a wonderful job with
- 19:31Speaker 4: him the last two years.
- 19:32Speaker 2: He's around, you know think about that every single day
- 19:36Speaker 2: Around a Hall of fame player.
- 19:38Speaker 4: Who many said the same Thing About, Jason taylor jason,
- 19:42Speaker 4: you know, different size longer lean it wasn't a first
- 19:46Speaker 4: round pick all but he said, Was Well, jason taylor
- 19:50Speaker 4: he's not gonna be. Strong, enough well he's IN The
- 19:51Speaker 4: nfl Hall.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Of fame and he used that Wisdom Coach ruben bain
- 19:57Speaker 2: who took.
- 19:57Speaker 4: That coaching, in addition then every day practice he Went
- 20:01Speaker 4: Against francis malignoa every single day for the last.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Three years malinoa is scheduled to be a first.
- 20:07Speaker 4: Round pick those guys went head to head knows and
- 20:11Speaker 4: o's every day in practice and enjoyed the battle and.
- 20:16Speaker 2: They made each. Other better and THAT'S why i think.
- 20:18Speaker 4: All these things add up that he's going to be
- 20:21Speaker 4: a REALLY good.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Nfl, player joe you've Been doing miami games for a couple.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Of Decades al golden was the head coach for a
- 20:29Speaker 1: while during. Your tenure how's That Match al Golden And.
- 20:33Speaker 4: RUBEN bain I Think, al golden if He Gets ruben
- 20:36Speaker 4: bain is going to.
- 20:37Speaker 2: LOVE him I.
- 20:38Speaker 4: Think al goldan is going, to, say damn where were
- 20:41Speaker 4: YOU when i was the.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Head coach.
- 20:45Speaker 4: Al knew the significance of having great, defensive linemen and
- 20:50Speaker 4: he also.
- 20:50Speaker 2: Knew IT wasn't i did not get away from him how.
- 20:54Speaker 4: Significant great defensive linemen are For the University of miami
- 20:58Speaker 4: and were for the Universe. OF miami a lot of
- 21:01Speaker 4: People Said rubyen bain reminds Them Of, reggie white whether
- 21:05Speaker 4: or not that's true. OR not I Think al goldan
- 21:08Speaker 4: is a really. Smart Guy rubin bain is a really,
- 21:11Speaker 4: smart KID and i think it's going to be a
- 21:14Speaker 4: good match because they.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Both, love Football And al goldan. Knows this IN, the
- 21:20Speaker 2: nfl not only do you have to get to, the
- 21:22Speaker 2: quarterback you've got to get him on.
- 21:24Speaker 4: The, ground Well When ruben bain has him, within sight within,
- 21:27Speaker 4: his sight he, gets there and then he gets him on,
- 21:30Speaker 4: the ground he finishes.
- 21:31Speaker 1: THE job i have my fingers crossed that he will
- 21:35Speaker 1: be there at. Number ten he is number one on.
- 21:38Speaker 1: My board for what, That's, WORTH jill i really appreciate.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Your time thanks so.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Much anytime thanks for having me Up.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Next Texas Texts, david bailey who led the nation with
- 21:48Speaker 1: fourteen and a. Half sacks he's, six three two hundred
- 21:52Speaker 1: and fifty pounds and gets to the quarterback with his
- 21:55Speaker 1: incredible quickness. And agility we are joined by the voice
- 21:59Speaker 1: Of The Texas Tech, Red Raiders. Brian, jensen brian You
- 22:03Speaker 1: Watch david bailey for one season after he spent three Years.
- 22:06Speaker 1: At stanford what jumped out?
- 22:08Speaker 5: To, you well he.
- 22:09Speaker 6: Is probably the most effective defensive end outside linebacker at
- 22:16Speaker 6: rushing the Passer that i've seen in the twenty six
- 22:19Speaker 6: Years that i've been calling. College football it had a
- 22:22Speaker 6: lot to do with just his ability to get off
- 22:24Speaker 6: the line in such a quick first step and then
- 22:27Speaker 6: get around the tackle or do whatever move he does
- 22:30Speaker 6: to get inside to get to the quarterback and does
- 22:33Speaker 6: it just. So quickly and then his arm strength is also.
- 22:38Speaker 6: Very impressive he can grab on with one hand and
- 22:40Speaker 6: hang on and you not only take care of the
- 22:44Speaker 6: sack or stop a running back coming.
- 22:46Speaker 5: Through, a hole or whatever the case. Might be he's very.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Dynamic Player the bengals are likely looking for somebody to
- 22:52Speaker 1: fill the Role That trey hendrickson has filled for them
- 22:54Speaker 1: for the past, few seasons and one of the Things
- 22:57Speaker 1: that trey did was serve as A close when they
- 23:00Speaker 1: needed a sack on third down late in, the game he.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Often Delivered Was david bailey?
- 23:06Speaker 3: Like that?
- 23:07Speaker 6: Oh yeah in eleven of the fourteen games he had
- 23:10Speaker 6: at least.
- 23:11Speaker 5: A sack so and it was exactly what.
- 23:14Speaker 6: You're describing if it was a situation where there was
- 23:17Speaker 6: a big, third down the quarterbacks knew he was coming
- 23:21Speaker 6: and they thought they knew where he's. Coming from but
- 23:24Speaker 6: typically he would get. There anyway and That was another
- 23:27Speaker 6: thing that has been very impressive with him is the
- 23:30Speaker 6: number of pressures he's put. On quarterbacks it's seventy six
- 23:34Speaker 6: total pressures during the regular Season for bailey this.
- 23:39Speaker 2: PAST year, i mean that's just think about.
- 23:40Speaker 5: THAT number.
- 23:43Speaker 1: I am agree about. That number he had twenty nine
- 23:46Speaker 1: sacks in his. College career he also forced ten fumbles turnovers.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Win games as we, all know did he have that
- 23:54Speaker 1: nose for?
- 23:54Speaker 6: The, ball yes absolutely was able to do the same
- 23:57Speaker 6: thing with tech and typically when he would get, in
- 24:01Speaker 6: there if he didn't force, the fumble he turned the
- 24:05Speaker 6: quarterback in a direction where another defensive lineman or another
- 24:08Speaker 6: defensive player would be, right there, you know to punch
- 24:11Speaker 6: it out or do something of.
- 24:12Speaker 2: That nature so chaos is is the best WORD that i.
- 24:16Speaker 6: Could Describe When david bailey comes after, a quarterback he,
- 24:19Speaker 6: creates it whether it's him actually making the hit or
- 24:22Speaker 6: just forcing the quarterback to do something crazy because he knows.
- 24:25Speaker 1: He's, coming brian he earned his degree in less than
- 24:28Speaker 1: four Years. AT stanford i assume he's a. Smart Kid
- 24:31Speaker 1: Describe david bailey off, the field, great leader.
- 24:36Speaker 6: You know not the kind of guy that's going to
- 24:38Speaker 6: be jumping up and down in your, face verbal but
- 24:40Speaker 6: the kind of guy that when he, says something.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Everybody Listens the bengals have the tenth pick in. The
- 24:47Speaker 1: draft he pops up frequently as somebody who's been mock Drafted,
- 24:52Speaker 1: to CINCINNATI but i would say more often, than not
- 24:55Speaker 1: he's no longer there at. Number ten do you have
- 24:57Speaker 1: a feel. For that do you get the sense that
- 25:00Speaker 1: he's going to be one of the guys taken at
- 25:02Speaker 1: the very top of.
- 25:02Speaker 6: This, DRAFT well i have a feeling that when he Performs,
- 25:06Speaker 6: at combine depending on how much he, performs there.
- 25:11Speaker 2: He.
- 25:11Speaker 7: Could jump he could.
- 25:12Speaker 6: Jump up the number a little bit, because again some
- 25:17Speaker 6: of the things that, he possesses, you know it shows,
- 25:20Speaker 6: on film and it shows on. The field but when
- 25:23Speaker 6: you can show what those things are like with the
- 25:26Speaker 6: stopwatches and, you know and the measurements and all the
- 25:29Speaker 6: other things THAT the, nfl LOVES he i think is
- 25:32Speaker 6: going to set a new bar in.
- 25:34Speaker 5: Some Of those is there any?
- 25:36Speaker 1: Versatility there is he strictly an.
- 25:38Speaker 6: Edge, guy no there's versatility in that he can drop.
- 25:42Speaker 6: Back in he did this several Times for tech their
- 25:45Speaker 6: defensive scheme when the quarterbacks were dual. Threat quarterbacks if
- 25:49Speaker 6: you look back at, text season dual threat quarterbacks at
- 25:54Speaker 6: a very difficult time Succeeding against, tech defense and a
- 25:57Speaker 6: lot of the reason was because they Could Take dave
- 26:00Speaker 6: Bailey And, romelo Hype But david bailey for, you know
- 26:03Speaker 6: number one on, the list and they could drop him
- 26:05Speaker 6: back if they.
- 26:06Speaker 5: Needed to so they would make it look like he's.
- 26:08Speaker 6: Coming at the quarterback and then he would peel back
- 26:11Speaker 6: and either drop off into a zone or he would
- 26:13Speaker 6: drop off on a specific player and could cover, them well,
- 26:18Speaker 6: you know up. The FIELD so i would say that
- 26:21Speaker 6: he's the kind of guy IN the nfl that could
- 26:23Speaker 6: do those types. Of things doesn't have to always just
- 26:26Speaker 6: be a flat out. Pass rusher he can drop back
- 26:29Speaker 6: and do, some things you know in.
- 26:30Speaker 5: The zones we will.
- 26:32Speaker 1: Be watching him closely at the Combine. In, INDIANAPOLIS brian
- 26:35Speaker 1: i appreciate, the intel thanks.
- 26:37Speaker 5: So much absolutely. Good luck there's.
- 26:40Speaker 1: One more edge rusher on, the list and in every
- 26:43Speaker 1: mock Draft that i've, looked at he's available with a tenth.
- 26:46Speaker 1: Overall Pick keldric Falk. Of auburn he's, six six two
- 26:51Speaker 1: hundred and eighty. Eight POUNDS in Nfl dot com compares
- 26:55Speaker 1: Him To. Carlos Dunlap the bengals would gladly sign up,
- 26:59Speaker 1: for that but he's also been Compared To shamar stewart
- 27:02Speaker 1: because he didn't have the college stats to match. His
- 27:06Speaker 1: potential we are joined by the voice Of The, Auburn Tigers,
- 27:10Speaker 1: andy bircham to discuss Edge Rusher. Keldric, falk andy he
- 27:16Speaker 1: looks the part six six nearly two hundred and. Ninety
- 27:19Speaker 1: pounds how would you describe?
- 27:21Speaker 8: His, play well he is a, guy That from, auburn's
- 27:24Speaker 8: standpoint was a Highly recruited auburn felt really good about
- 27:30Speaker 8: getting him.
- 27:31Speaker 9: Here From, Highland, home alabama and he was. A starter
- 27:36Speaker 9: he was a contributor from, day one On the.
- 27:39Speaker 8: Auburn campus as you mentioned, six' six he ended the
- 27:42Speaker 8: year at, two Eighty five and i'm guessing since then
- 27:46Speaker 8: has probably added some more muscle as he Trains for
- 27:49Speaker 8: the combine and TRAINS For. The nfl draft and just
- 27:53Speaker 8: was a guy that was a Key contributor for auburn
- 27:57Speaker 8: from Day one for auburt.
- 27:59Speaker 9: And not just.
- 27:59Speaker 8: AS edge rusher i was really impressed by the complete
- 28:04Speaker 8: football player, that he was and it was, from day
- 28:07Speaker 8: one and he was.
- 28:08Speaker 2: A leader for auburn.
- 28:10Speaker 9: FOR day, one, i mean.
- 28:11Speaker 8: Listen he comes in and and didn't play on.
- 28:13Speaker 9: Great, teams at auburn but every.
- 28:16Speaker 8: Time you would listen to an opposing coach Talk about,
- 28:19Speaker 8: the auburn defense, you.
- 28:22Speaker 9: Would hear, especially this year you would, Hear.
- 28:24Speaker 8: Two names xavier atkins at linebacker Who, returns For Auburn
- 28:28Speaker 8: and keldric falk off the edge and a Guy that
- 28:32Speaker 8: led auburn.
- 28:32Speaker 9: In quarterback hurries. On the season just he will be
- 28:37Speaker 9: sorely Missed from.
- 28:38Speaker 8: This AUBURN team But i know auburn wishes him nothing
- 28:40Speaker 8: but the best as he gets READY For.
- 28:42Speaker 2: The nfl draft and he let me ask you.
- 28:45Speaker 1: About his productivity he had seven sacks a couple, of
- 28:49Speaker 1: years ago but only. Two this year his pressures were
- 28:53Speaker 1: down a little. Bit as well why do you think that?
- 28:55Speaker 8: Was, THE case well i think this, he you know
- 28:58Speaker 8: for a, couple of years he was Basically it for
- 29:00Speaker 8: auburn on.
- 29:01Speaker 9: Off the edge he Was everything.
- 29:02Speaker 8: That auburn had auburn was, MORE balanced defensively i, think.
- 29:06Speaker 9: This year and it didn't have to Just Be the.
- 29:08Speaker 9: Calbert FOLK show and I.
- 29:11Speaker 3: Thought he i thought in spite of the fact that his.
- 29:15Speaker 8: Sack, NUMBERS went down i thought he was a more
- 29:18Speaker 8: well Rounded defender for. Auburn this season you didn't see
- 29:22Speaker 8: him get out of, his, Rush LANE uh and i
- 29:26Speaker 8: thought he was More disciplined for auburn coming off the Edge.
- 29:30Speaker 8: For THE tigers and i think that's one of the
- 29:31Speaker 8: reasons that it resulted in the fact.
- 29:34Speaker 9: That he didn't have as many sacks This.
- 29:36Speaker 2: Year FOR auburn and i.
- 29:37Speaker 8: ALSO think, this i mean he was he was the
- 29:41Speaker 8: most highly Publicized of The auburn sh rudger edge, rushers.
- 29:47Speaker 9: AS well and i think teams probably doubled.
- 29:49Speaker 2: On him more than they had.
- 29:51Speaker 8: In THE past and i think that that also had
- 29:53Speaker 8: something to. Do WITH it but i thought he was
- 29:55Speaker 8: a more well rounded, defender this season even though his
- 29:59Speaker 8: numbers weren't nearly as high as they had been.
- 30:01Speaker 2: In the past keldric.
- 30:03Speaker 1: Is twenty One he's leaving auburn. After three seasons do
- 30:07Speaker 1: you think it's going to take him a little bit
- 30:09Speaker 1: of time to have a big CONTRIBUTION at the nfl
- 30:12Speaker 1: level or do you think he's ready to? Contribute, right away.
- 30:15Speaker 8: Well if you just judge from what He did at
- 30:18Speaker 8: auburn and did as, A true freshman.
- 30:20Speaker 9: I'm not sure it's going to take a. Lot of
- 30:21Speaker 9: TIME i'm not i.
- 30:24Speaker 8: Certainly don't have the insight with REGARD to THE nfl.
- 30:28Speaker 2: As i do on the collegiate level And, here at.
- 30:31Speaker 8: Auburn but he was a contributor from from day one as.
- 30:35Speaker 8: A true freshman i think he will. Be a contributor it.
- 30:39Speaker 9: May not be to that in the level that he
- 30:41Speaker 9: was on, the COLLEGE level but i think he has
- 30:44Speaker 9: everything needed to.
- 30:45Speaker 8: Become a very productive defensive end, or edge rusher, regardless
- 30:51Speaker 8: you know whether he's in, the you know on.
- 30:53Speaker 9: A three point stantary he's coming. OFF the edge i
- 30:56Speaker 9: think this guy can.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Do it all you mentioned his character, and his leadership
- 31:00Speaker 1: what were your personal Interactions, Like, with keldrick.
- 31:04Speaker 9: Well every time we got a chance to be around
- 31:06Speaker 9: him and. Talk to him he's, very well spoken one
- 31:09Speaker 9: thoughtful in.
- 31:10Speaker 8: What he DOES and, as i, mentioned and listen in this,
- 31:14Speaker 8: day and age it's not just it's not just a
- 31:16Speaker 8: given that your best players are going to be. Your
- 31:19Speaker 8: team leaders but that was The Case from keldrick fault.
- 31:22Speaker 8: From day one he was a team leader as a
- 31:24Speaker 8: freshman and continue to be a team leader through his Junior.
- 31:27Speaker 8: Year at auburn that's one of the things that Impressed
- 31:30Speaker 8: Me about calbric faulk.
- 31:32Speaker 9: Was just how well he Led on, that.
- 31:35Speaker 8: Auburn defense and that Was a good auburn, defense this
- 31:38Speaker 8: season And he was he was one of THE Leaders
- 31:40Speaker 8: that dj jurkin.
- 31:41Speaker 9: Looked to game in.
- 31:42Speaker 8: And, game, OUT now listen i have no idea how
- 31:45Speaker 8: he's going to Test, at THE combine but i won't
- 31:48Speaker 8: be shocked if he doesn't come out of there and
- 31:50Speaker 8: HAS impressed the nfl, scouts coming Out.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Including, THE bengals andy i appreciate the. Intel very much thanks,
- 31:57Speaker 1: to your.
- 31:57Speaker 9: Time my pleasure dan have. A great guy we'll.
- 32:01Speaker 1: Turn our attention to a. Defensive Tackle, next but first
- 32:04Speaker 1: here's a quick Reminder That the bengals booth podcast is

- 32:29Speaker 1: the bengals are also in the market, for defensive tackles
- 32:32Speaker 1: especially if they have. Pass rushing potential the top rated
- 32:37Speaker 1: interior lineman on most big boards this year is, six
- 32:41Speaker 1: foot three three hundred And Ten pound Peter, woods, from
- 32:44Speaker 1: clemson Who Along with Ohio State's, safety caleb downs is
- 32:48Speaker 1: probably the player most frequently Going to the bengals. In
- 32:52Speaker 1: mock drafts we are joined by the Voice Of, The Clemson,
- 32:55Speaker 1: tigers don munson to Discuss Defensive. Tackle Peter woods don
- 32:59Speaker 1: peter where it was a very. Highly touted recruit it
- 33:02Speaker 1: was a big deal when He. Signed with clemson he
- 33:04Speaker 1: watched him play. For three years did he live up?
- 33:07Speaker 1: TO the hype i think that.
- 33:08Speaker 10: He did live up to the hype and be perfectly, Honest.
- 33:10Speaker 11: With you daniel people may go and take a look,
- 33:13Speaker 11: at the, analytics you know of his playing particularly they go,
- 33:16Speaker 11: look at, numbers tackle, numbers sack numbers that, kind of stuff, and, they,
- 33:20Speaker 11: say no. No HE didn't but i think that, he did,
- 33:22Speaker 11: it you know because he drew. So much attention a lot,
- 33:25Speaker 11: of double teams a lot of offensive coordinators believe the
- 33:28Speaker 11: were planning around ways to Try To. Control peter woods
- 33:32Speaker 11: he had that one year where he played a defensive
- 33:34Speaker 11: end and then moved back into defensive tackle, this past year,
- 33:38Speaker 11: so you know he would tackle in. Back into tackles
- 33:41Speaker 11: so He is a he's a multifaceted kind. Of DEFENSIVE
- 33:45Speaker 11: lineman and i think it's gonna be a really good.
- 33:47Speaker 1: Fit for somebody i'm glad, you said That because the
- 33:50Speaker 1: bengals need. Inside pass rushers he had two sacks this
- 33:54Speaker 1: year and three. The year before but it sounds like
- 33:57Speaker 1: he got a lot of attention and that might help
- 34:00Speaker 1: explain why he didn't.
- 34:01Speaker 2: Have.
- 34:01Speaker 11: BIGGER numbers yeah i think that that's exactly why is
- 34:06Speaker 11: is is he did draw a. LOT of, attention i
- 34:09Speaker 11: mean because he was he was THE focal, point i
- 34:11Speaker 11: mean he was a he was a guy that, even
- 34:14Speaker 11: you know preseason magazines are.
- 34:15Speaker 10: Coming, out talking, about you know this guy.
- 34:17Speaker 11: Could be the, possible you know acc defensive player, of
- 34:20Speaker 11: the year a lot of that. Kind of talk but
- 34:23Speaker 11: he's been the he's been the, very you know the
- 34:27Speaker 11: very typical kind of defensive lineman that has been Coming
- 34:29Speaker 11: out of clemson now for basically the last gosh.
- 34:33Speaker 10: TEN fifteen, years i mean go back AND Talk.
- 34:35Speaker 11: About dj, Reader you know reader was obviously they're with
- 34:38Speaker 11: you all is for a While, they're In cincinnati and
- 34:41Speaker 11: reader was a guy who, just you know kept getting.
- 34:44Speaker 10: Better AND better and i think that's the Other. THING
- 34:45Speaker 10: about peter i think that.
- 34:47Speaker 11: As, age goes along and that as he strives and
- 34:50Speaker 11: goes to get to his mid twenties, TO late twenties
- 34:53Speaker 11: i think it's those are the times where he's really
- 34:55Speaker 11: going to be at.
- 34:56Speaker 10: His peak performance.
- 34:58Speaker 1: He is one of the youngest players. In the draft
- 35:00Speaker 1: he hasn't turned. Twenty one yet do you think he
- 35:03Speaker 1: is going to be a big contributor from day one
- 35:06Speaker 1: or do you think it's going to.
- 35:07Speaker 11: TAKE some time i think it depends upon the pieces
- 35:09Speaker 11: of the puzzle that are kind, of around him perfectly, Honest,
- 35:12Speaker 11: With YOU dan and i THINK that's but i think
- 35:14Speaker 11: that's the case with basically ninety five PERCENT of, all
- 35:19Speaker 11: nfl players is that there is that rare five percent
- 35:22Speaker 11: that no matter, who's around him they are going.
- 35:24Speaker 10: To stand out but a lot of.
- 35:26Speaker 11: All pros are all pros because of the people around
- 35:30Speaker 11: them as well and the scheme that they're involved. In
- 35:33Speaker 11: AS well and i think that that's Another thing for
- 35:35Speaker 11: peter is that he needs to go to a place
- 35:38Speaker 11: where he's, got some good good folks around him on
- 35:40Speaker 11: the defensive line at linebacker that can help free him
- 35:44Speaker 11: up a little bit so he's not always drawing. All
- 35:46Speaker 11: the attention but then how are they Going to go
- 35:48Speaker 11: how is the team going to go? About using him
- 35:51Speaker 11: he can cause problems right. Up the gut where does
- 35:54Speaker 11: the quarterback hate to get pressure right?
- 35:56Speaker 10: Up the gut but he.
- 35:57Speaker 11: Can do that he can, bull rush people he can
- 35:59Speaker 11: go right, over top People, and he's yeah he is a.
- 36:02Speaker 11: STRONG human being i can tell you. That right now
- 36:04Speaker 11: he has a strong human being and he's going.
- 36:07Speaker 1: To get stronger he's listed at six. Three three ten
- 36:11Speaker 1: most Of the stuff i've read about him talks about his.
- 36:13Speaker 1: First step quickness what do you consider to be. HIS
- 36:16Speaker 1: greatest strengths i think that's probably.
- 36:18Speaker 11: It he had he is explosive, off the line and
- 36:22Speaker 11: if you can if you can be explosive in that
- 36:24Speaker 11: first in.
- 36:25Speaker 10: That first step he also plays with really.
- 36:27Speaker 11: GOOD pad, level i mean he is a guy that
- 36:30Speaker 11: believes that low pad wins and he can absolutely do
- 36:33Speaker 11: that when he. Gets to combine the thing that's going
- 36:36Speaker 11: to probably be the knock against him is going to be.
- 36:38Speaker 10: His ARM length and i understand, that ALL right but
- 36:41Speaker 10: i think that.
- 36:42Speaker 11: Way you're, in tight quarters the way that he is going,
- 36:45Speaker 11: to be operating he knows how to. Use his hands
- 36:48Speaker 11: there's a little bit of wrestling in his in his,
- 36:50Speaker 11: background as well so he he knows how to use
- 36:53Speaker 11: his hands and to get.
- 36:54Speaker 10: Leverage on guys.
- 36:55Speaker 1: Dodd he actually carried the ball Eight times at clemson
- 36:58Speaker 1: and ran for a. Couple of touchdowns how did, That,
- 37:00Speaker 1: come about.
- 37:01Speaker 5: Well it came about.
- 37:03Speaker 11: BECAUSE jumbo package i think that really the p curser
- 37:08Speaker 11: To Him, was christian wilkins who obviously missed this past
- 37:13Speaker 11: year in THE in the nfl because of.
- 37:14Speaker 10: A Foot injury but christian.
- 37:16Speaker 11: Was one that kind Of started That peter great and
- 37:19Speaker 11: that's the kind of athlete though, that he is is
- 37:22Speaker 11: that he can. Go out there but when in, today's collegiate,
- 37:26Speaker 11: game in particular so many times you're going forward on
- 37:28Speaker 11: fourth down or maybe even. Third and short it's particularly
- 37:31Speaker 11: when that ball's inside the two yard line in. A
- 37:34Speaker 11: scoring situation was kind of where they like, to use
- 37:37Speaker 11: him and he made the most of it and he
- 37:40Speaker 11: enjoyed getting in.
- 37:40Speaker 10: THE end zone i can guarantee you.
- 37:41Speaker 1: THAT You, reference dj, reader great leader. Great culture guy
- 37:46Speaker 1: he had a lot to Do with the bengals going
- 37:48Speaker 1: To the super bowl in. Twenty twenty one we'd sign
- 37:51Speaker 1: UP For another. DJ reader tomorrow i can promise you
- 37:54Speaker 1: that does he have some. Of those, qualities.
- 37:56Speaker 11: Oh yeah absolutely one of THE things that i Guarantee
- 37:58Speaker 11: You with peter woods is that.
- 38:00Speaker 10: There's not going to be any off field.
- 38:02Speaker 11: PROBLEMS with him i guarantee he whoever gets him Is
- 38:05Speaker 11: going to he's gonna be. A pr dream he's going
- 38:08Speaker 11: to do all. The right things he's going to say all.
- 38:10Speaker 11: The right things he's going to be. A team guy
- 38:12Speaker 11: he is going to be a voice inside. The, locker
- 38:15Speaker 11: room now it's going to take a while.
- 38:16Speaker 10: And will heave you a voice. As a, rookie probably
- 38:19Speaker 10: not but he at some, point in time he is
- 38:22Speaker 10: going to be that voice in.
- 38:23Speaker 11: That locker room, very well spoken, very kind of very,
- 38:27Speaker 11: polite young man and he's all the things.
- 38:30Speaker 10: That you want he's not going to cause problems.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Off The field the bengals have drafted A lot of tigers,
- 38:36Speaker 1: In Recent, Years Te, Higgins Miles, murphy barrett CARTER We.
- 38:39Speaker 1: Referenced dj reader they picked him up as. A free
- 38:42Speaker 1: agent at least a couple of those guys have been
- 38:44Speaker 1: highly SUCCESSFUL. In the nfl it sounds Like You think
- 38:48Speaker 1: peter woods will be SUCCESSFUL. In, THE nfl yeah i think.
- 38:52Speaker 10: That you Add HIM to and i think that.
- 38:54Speaker 11: Was another thing That could help peter is that a
- 38:56Speaker 11: lot of those guys that you just mentioned He played
- 38:58Speaker 11: with so's he would have the opportunity to go, to
- 39:03Speaker 11: a Place have some clemson folks around him and get
- 39:07Speaker 11: them to put the lay of the land out. There
- 39:09Speaker 11: FOR him but I think that peter would be an
- 39:12Speaker 11: excellent Addition to what cincinnati wants to do and as
- 39:16Speaker 11: they start, to move forward also trying to make a
- 39:18Speaker 11: move to get to the playoffs and once you, get the.
- 39:21Speaker 10: Playoffs Anything's possible don this.
- 39:23Speaker 1: Has been great really appreciate your time. And the information.
- 39:26Speaker 1: Thanks so much.
- 39:28Speaker 10: Appreciate you Having me on dan, and As. Always go
- 39:30Speaker 10: tigers there's.
- 39:32Speaker 1: One player left and it's at a position that doesn't
- 39:35Speaker 1: appear to be a Major need for. Cincinnati outside cornerback
- 39:39Speaker 1: but if you believe in the best player available concept
- 39:43Speaker 1: and have an opportunity to draft, an elite corner then
- 39:46Speaker 1: you have to at Least consider LSU's. Monsieur de layne he's,
- 39:51Speaker 1: six feet tall one hundred and ninety pounds, with long
- 39:54Speaker 1: arms And According To, pro football focus did not allow
- 39:58Speaker 1: a touchdown. PASS this year i often talk with the
- 40:02Speaker 1: VOICE Of the lsu tigers this, time Of Year and
- 40:04Speaker 1: chris blair has certainly given. Us Great Intel i'm Joe
- 40:08Speaker 1: Burrow and jamar chase. In the past today we Are Discussing,
- 40:12Speaker 1: cornerback monsieur delaine who typically has listed as the number
- 40:17Speaker 1: one corner in. This year's class what stood out to
- 40:19Speaker 1: you watching him? Play, This, year chris.
- 40:22Speaker 12: Well it's interesting you bring up those other TWO names
- 40:25Speaker 12: because i think you know both have translated well obviously
- 40:28Speaker 12: from from the college RANKS, To the nfl, AND you
- 40:32Speaker 12: know I think when i when, people ask, me you
- 40:34Speaker 12: know years Ago about Both, JOE and jamar i always talked.
- 40:37Speaker 13: About their, their work ethic their kind of.
- 40:39Speaker 12: Approach to a professional, life of football even in. The
- 40:42Speaker 12: college ranks, and interestingly enough when You bring, up monsieur's name.
- 40:48Speaker 7: That's the other thing that stands.
- 40:50Speaker 12: Out about him, and you know he transferred in obviously,
- 40:53Speaker 12: in the summer getting to see him a little bit
- 40:55Speaker 12: in fall camp leading up, to the season, and you
- 40:59Speaker 12: know also being told by The coaching staff dan that
- 41:03Speaker 12: this is. The real deal this guy is going to
- 41:05Speaker 12: be ABLE, to take lsu which had been struggling against
- 41:08Speaker 12: the pass for the. Previous two seasons it was suddenly
- 41:11Speaker 12: GOING to bring DBU.
- 41:13Speaker 7: Back TO lsu, and i thought that's a lot of
- 41:16Speaker 7: high praise.
- 41:16Speaker 12: For one individual but it was pretty evident early on
- 41:20Speaker 12: teams just stopped, throwing his way and, when they did
- 41:23Speaker 12: it almost seemed like.
- 41:25Speaker 7: They never won and he always came up with a
- 41:28Speaker 7: pick or.
- 41:28Speaker 12: A big, deflection so again he stands out to me
- 41:31Speaker 12: as a pro playing in college football just the way,
- 41:35Speaker 12: he approached things and that's kind of the way the
- 41:36Speaker 12: coaching staff referred to him as this guy comes in.
- 41:40Speaker 13: And he takes away, half the field and for most
- 41:42Speaker 13: of the season.
- 41:43Speaker 1: He, did THAT chris did lsu typically put him on
- 41:46Speaker 1: the other team's best receiver or did he stay?
- 41:49Speaker 11: On?
- 41:49Speaker 1: One side yeah.
- 41:51Speaker 12: Typically he, would in fact most of the opponents, that
- 41:54Speaker 12: we saw especially as the, season went on would constantly
- 41:57Speaker 12: move guys you would expect to their GUY at. The
- 42:01Speaker 12: z position suddenly he'd, be you KNOW at the x
- 42:04Speaker 12: just to try to, move him around just simply because
- 42:07Speaker 12: when there was a guy that needed, to be covered
- 42:09Speaker 12: that's who. They went TO that's who lsu Went to
- 42:12Speaker 12: in monts. Who, were delaying now it also.
- 42:14Speaker 13: Helped he had some pretty good safety help, over the
- 42:16Speaker 13: top so.
- 42:16Speaker 12: It, allowed him again there were MANY times where i
- 42:20Speaker 12: saw him just make plays that when you saw pre
- 42:23Speaker 12: snap or immediately, at the snap, you think, they you
- 42:26Speaker 12: know the the offense. Had their number but his ability
- 42:30Speaker 12: to to make up for lost speed or maybe even
- 42:34Speaker 12: a bad angle initially puts him in an elite group
- 42:38Speaker 12: As far. As i'm concerned based on THE cornerbacks, that
- 42:41Speaker 12: i saw you KNOW in the, sec Last season.
- 42:43Speaker 1: The bengals have good OUTSIDE Corners and Dj Turner And
- 42:47Speaker 1: dax hill dax has played. In the slot how Much versatility?
- 42:52Speaker 1: Does monsoeur have he pay, had a.
- 42:54Speaker 12: Lot you know and it's interesting because you can go back,
- 42:57Speaker 12: and Watch plays and i'm sure fans have as the
- 42:59Speaker 12: draft kids closer and watch him at times Be, able
- 43:03Speaker 12: to again most, of the time he didn't have to make.
- 43:07Speaker 13: Spectacular plays in the sense that he was.
- 43:09Speaker 12: OUT of position i think that's why teams very rarely
- 43:13Speaker 12: started to throw his way because very rarely just based,
- 43:16Speaker 12: on the fundamentals based on what he read at, the
- 43:18Speaker 12: receiver position regardless of what guy he was on and
- 43:21Speaker 12: where he was, on the.
- 43:22Speaker 7: Field whether he was the outside boundary or.
- 43:25Speaker 12: The closed boundary he just rarely ever was, out of
- 43:28Speaker 12: position which again is why quarterbacks would immediately look his
- 43:32Speaker 12: receiver off because, he's you know he's there and they're
- 43:37Speaker 12: not going to be able to shake him in.
- 43:38Speaker 7: The, next you know half.
- 43:39Speaker 12: Second TWO seconds so i think that's what was also
- 43:42Speaker 12: good About the way monsouver plays is that he does
- 43:45Speaker 12: a lot, of his, work you know well before they get.
- 43:47Speaker 12: To the field he understands what, his assignment is he,
- 43:50Speaker 12: understands the strengths he understands where maybe he can't match
- 43:54Speaker 12: up his, knee as well but he certainly puts himself
- 43:58Speaker 12: in the position to. Make the play rarely does a
- 44:01Speaker 12: guy get a huge step or a huge.
- 44:03Speaker 7: Gap.
- 44:03Speaker 1: On him chris he spent ONE year at lsu After Three,
- 44:06Speaker 1: at virginia tech so he had to adapt and get
- 44:10Speaker 1: to know teammates quickly like he WILL. In the nfl
- 44:13Speaker 1: did he become a leader or was he more of,
- 44:15Speaker 1: a you know put his nose down and just do
- 44:18Speaker 1: his thing?
- 44:18Speaker 2: Kind of?
- 44:19Speaker 1: GUY you know i.
- 44:20Speaker 12: Think he was more of a quiet, kind of kid
- 44:23Speaker 12: at least from my interactions with him again during the
- 44:25Speaker 12: press junkets during the week and just. Traveling with him
- 44:28Speaker 12: he never, seemed to, be you know the loudest, of,
- 44:30Speaker 12: the group which as, you will know doesn't necessarily always translate.
- 44:34Speaker 12: INTO good leadership i would put him in the file,
- 44:37Speaker 12: a little, more you know a Little more like jamar
- 44:40Speaker 12: when HE. Was at lsu joe was. A different Animal
- 44:43Speaker 12: joe would he didn't, have a, problem you know talking
- 44:46Speaker 12: to the linebackers much less the defensive edge or. HIS running,
- 44:51Speaker 12: backs i mean he had no problem taking control.
- 44:53Speaker 2: OF the Room i think jamar was more of.
- 44:55Speaker 13: A, guy who said just GO watch what i do go, watch.
- 44:57Speaker 12: My practice To watch how i'm, ready to go and there's,
- 44:59Speaker 12: no WASTED moments AND i Think i put monsour.
- 45:03Speaker 7: In there now.
- 45:04Speaker 12: He, enjoys himself well you got some great tape and
- 45:06Speaker 12: great video of him. After SOME celebrations but i think,
- 45:09Speaker 12: as a rule he's a, guy that says if you
- 45:11Speaker 12: want to compete and you want to be at, the
- 45:13Speaker 12: highest level when you want the coaches to put their,
- 45:15Speaker 12: trust in you this is.
- 45:16Speaker 7: What you have to do.
- 45:17Speaker 12: Every single day AND that's why i think it's going
- 45:19Speaker 12: to translate well for him to a PROFESSIONAL ranks because
- 45:22Speaker 12: i think he already approaches the game.
- 45:24Speaker 1: In That manner the tigers have been Good. To the
- 45:27Speaker 1: bengals we'll see if.
- 45:28Speaker 9: It.
