- 0:07Speaker 1: Hello everybody, and welcome to another edition of Cardinal Territory.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Jim Hayes, along with Lance Lynn Kyle Gibson, is talking
- 0:15Speaker 1: to his title guy. Now, look he's building a house.
- 0:19Speaker 1: I get it. You gotta take time with the title guy. Look,
- 0:23Speaker 1: I want to make fun of him because he said,
- 0:25Speaker 1: I'm still with the title guy. Have you ever taken
- 0:28Speaker 1: time with your title guy? Lancem just curious. Uh yeah,
- 0:33Speaker 1: drinking beers. That's about it. We had a title guy,
- 0:38Speaker 1: I would say to my wife, you want the gray
- 0:40Speaker 1: or the white? Okay, now we'll move on to the
- 0:42Speaker 1: next thing. But let's talk a little Cardinal baseball. Right now,
- 0:45Speaker 1: Cardinals playing the fifth game against the Reds in Cincinnati.
- 0:50Speaker 1: They're two over five hundred. They're three games back on
- 0:54Speaker 1: the wild card. I wanted to get two things from
- 0:57Speaker 1: lance Lynn to start, because I'm coming up with topics
- 1:00Speaker 1: that I think are interesting. Two things about this ball
- 1:04Speaker 1: club that maybe you weren't sold on in the beginning.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Could be a player, it could be an aspect of
- 1:10Speaker 1: the team that now you're a believer. So I'm going
- 1:13Speaker 1: to give you a second to think about it. Because
- 1:15Speaker 1: even though I put it out in a group text,
- 1:17Speaker 1: sometimes we don't look at those things. But again it's
- 1:22Speaker 1: you're looking at some of the team could be a player,
- 1:24Speaker 1: could be an aspect of the team, a part of
- 1:27Speaker 1: the ball club that you were like, and now you're
- 1:30Speaker 1: a believer. What do you got?
- 1:32Speaker 2: So I wouldn't say it wasn't a believer, but I
- 1:35Speaker 2: will say that it's been a pleasantly surprised on how
- 1:39Speaker 2: well the starting pitching is held up throughout the year,
- 1:42Speaker 2: if that makes sense. I think as a group, all
- 1:45Speaker 2: of them have done what we hope they would do.
- 1:49Speaker 2: So that makes you a believer. I think in the
- 1:52Speaker 2: in the grand scheme of things, you didn't know what
- 1:54Speaker 2: this group was going to be. You saw some upside,
- 1:57Speaker 2: you saw potential, you saw some pitchability. Now they're able
- 2:01Speaker 2: to do it and they're doing it for the long haul.
- 2:03Speaker 2: I mean you look at you know, Polonte last year
- 2:06Speaker 2: had his ups and downs. McGreevy was in tripa a
- 2:09Speaker 2: most of the year. Ley was in the bullpen, so
- 2:12Speaker 2: I think and even when they had what's the name
- 2:17Speaker 2: before they trade him, you didn't know what he was
- 2:19Speaker 2: going to be because he had a great year before
- 2:20Speaker 2: that in Dustin May. But you know he wasn't healthy
- 2:23Speaker 2: and stuff like that. So they've all stayed healthy, and
- 2:25Speaker 2: they've all made their starts, and they're putting together a
- 2:28Speaker 2: pretty good season. Libby is the one that is there
- 2:32Speaker 2: is a little bit higher than you wanted to but
- 2:35Speaker 2: I would say majority of his starts have been pretty good,
- 2:38Speaker 2: as Kyle's mentioned over some podcasts. So all in all,
- 2:41Speaker 2: that's been the pleasant surprise. And I don't think it's
- 2:44Speaker 2: a surprise, but I also think it is because you
- 2:46Speaker 2: didn't expect them to stay healthy and do this all
- 2:49Speaker 2: season like they have.
- 2:51Speaker 1: All Right, that's one I'm gonna that's what I had too,
- 2:54Speaker 1: And I think it's smart because he had so many
- 2:56Speaker 1: guys that hadn't put together a full season of starting
- 3:00Speaker 1: in the major leagues, and for like a guy like
- 3:03Speaker 1: Laya who's actually getting better, we're talking tour runs or
- 3:07Speaker 1: less in ten straight games. You couldn't have seen that coming,
- 3:10Speaker 1: even if you believed in Leahy and what happens with
- 3:14Speaker 1: every major league starting rotation, injuries, we haven't seen that.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Kudos to Dusty and Ali for spacing these guys out.
- 3:22Speaker 1: I'm with you. I'm gonna give you one other guy.
- 3:25Speaker 1: This is my second maybe you have a second. When
- 3:28Speaker 1: we first saw Guskaloom come up, I thought, all right,
- 3:32Speaker 1: I heard this guy's got a good change up. Let's
- 3:34Speaker 1: see what he's got. He got hammered. And the more
- 3:37Speaker 1: you see him, the more you believe. Because I think
- 3:40Speaker 1: he had a problem with how to set up the
- 3:43Speaker 1: change up, how to set up the sweeper. I think
- 3:45Speaker 1: you guys call it pitch sequencing. But he's certainly been
- 3:49Speaker 1: really really good of late. And I'm looking at this
- 3:51Speaker 1: guy and I go, kudos to them for seeing that
- 3:54Speaker 1: they had something there. What are your thoughts on that?
- 3:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I think with anybody, you up and you got
- 4:00Speaker 2: to see how your stuff works. You got to get
- 4:02Speaker 2: some confidence right when you kind of don't have a
- 4:04Speaker 2: game plan or the maybe the catchers are trying to
- 4:07Speaker 2: learn how you tick, what makes you comfortable, and then
- 4:10Speaker 2: at bat right he's lefties and stuff like that. It
- 4:12Speaker 2: takes a minute. So I think you're seeing a guy
- 4:15Speaker 2: that has the ability to get out at a high level,
- 4:19Speaker 2: and he's starting to get comfortable and he's starting to
- 4:21Speaker 2: realize when to use what and how to use it,
- 4:23Speaker 2: and the catchers are on the same page, and even
- 4:25Speaker 2: the even the coaching staff. It probably has a nice
- 4:29Speaker 2: breakdown for the catchers as they go. So relievers when
- 4:32Speaker 2: they first come up and stuff, it's like, hey, I
- 4:35Speaker 2: can do this in Triple A, but how can I
- 4:37Speaker 2: do in the big leagues. Sometimes you just got to
- 4:39Speaker 2: trust your best stuff and go with it and then
- 4:41Speaker 2: mix and match when you need to and then go
- 4:44Speaker 2: from there. So I think all in all relievers takes
- 4:47Speaker 2: a minute unless they just have absolute devastating fastball and
- 4:51Speaker 2: breaking ball combo or something like that that you can
- 4:55Speaker 2: just outpower people change ups. Usually those guys usually take
- 4:59Speaker 2: a minute to get a feel no one to do it.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Have the catcher's trust that this guy can throw anything
- 5:04Speaker 2: at any time that he wants to, and stuff like that.
- 5:06Speaker 2: So I see where you're going with this one, and
- 5:09Speaker 2: I like it. He's got this stuff to get outs
- 5:11Speaker 2: and he's getting comfortable and they're putting them in situations
- 5:14Speaker 2: to succeed, and that's what it's all about.
- 5:16Speaker 1: You talk about confidence too, like Rightley O'Brien when he's
- 5:20Speaker 1: healthy and he's had some injuries. Right there was a
- 5:23Speaker 1: guy who I think didn't really trust his stuff, and
- 5:27Speaker 1: the Cardinals nurtured him and helped him work through the
- 5:29Speaker 1: rough spots, and now when he goes out there, you're like, Okay, that'
- 5:33Speaker 1: save is going right in the bank because he looks
- 5:36Speaker 1: like a different guy in terms of body language and confidence.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Yeah, and it comes with success, right, Confidence in body
- 5:45Speaker 2: language go hand in hand. When you have success, you're
- 5:47Speaker 2: going to get both of those. He knows that his
- 5:50Speaker 2: stuff's good, and he knows that he can throw anything
- 5:52Speaker 2: he wants at any time, and he's not scared of
- 5:54Speaker 2: the strike zone. So I think that's the main thing
- 5:57Speaker 2: with relievers. And I think with Riley or On when
- 6:00Speaker 2: I was with him, when we got him, when he
- 6:02Speaker 2: when they rule five to you mind, know if he's
- 6:03Speaker 2: a real five. They just got him in a minor
- 6:04Speaker 2: league trade. It's almost he was given away. So it's
- 6:08Speaker 2: a good job by the front office to get him,
- 6:10Speaker 2: and then they realize, hey, we just need to teach
- 6:12Speaker 2: this guy to throw strikes.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Be okay with.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Throwing the ball on the strike zone. I think at
- 6:16Speaker 2: times he was trying to overdo things, make his stuff
- 6:19Speaker 2: nastier than it need to be, because it's nasty on
- 6:21Speaker 2: its own. And I think that's the main thing with
- 6:24Speaker 2: most pitchers is trust your stuff. Go get outs and
- 6:26Speaker 2: do your things. So he's learned to do that, and
- 6:29Speaker 2: they've been able to give him that time over the
- 6:30Speaker 2: last you know, year and a half two years to
- 6:33Speaker 2: get healthy and use his stuff the way he's capable of.
- 6:36Speaker 2: And you're seeing that in this. You know, he's striking
- 6:38Speaker 2: out over you know, nine per nine, and you know
- 6:41Speaker 2: walks are he's keeping them low enough to where they're
- 6:44Speaker 2: not hurting. And so I think he's in a good spot,
- 6:46Speaker 2: especially with the stuff he has.
- 6:49Speaker 1: So last night Leby was pitching pitch well gave up
- 6:52Speaker 1: a three run homer to sell Stuart. Now, Stuart, as
- 6:57Speaker 1: you know, is one of the guys that could win
- 6:59Speaker 1: Nationale Rookie of the Year. JJ weatherhold in Saint Louis,
- 7:03Speaker 1: we think this guy deserves a look. The Reds broadcasters
- 7:06Speaker 1: are pretty harsh in their assessment of the two, saying
- 7:10Speaker 1: that Stuart should get it. But if you look at
- 7:12Speaker 1: Stewart's numbers, right, I mean, give this guy his dude,
- 7:16Speaker 1: twenty seven homers, ninety four ribbies, eight ten ops. Right,
- 7:23Speaker 1: if you're looking, if you're looking at Rookie of the
- 7:25Speaker 1: Year and you're being fair, JJ does a lot of
- 7:28Speaker 1: other things. Certainly defensively, it's night and day. JJ weatherhold
- 7:32Speaker 1: has that. But when you look at this race, if
- 7:35Speaker 1: you are being honest, and you're always honest, maybe too
- 7:38Speaker 1: much lance, who do you think has the edge right now?
- 7:42Speaker 2: I think when you look at thirty home runs in
- 7:45Speaker 2: one hundred RBIs as a rookie, that's gonna be hard
- 7:48Speaker 2: to beat. Now, if JJ gets himself in a category
- 7:53Speaker 2: where we can get a gold glove and see what
- 7:57Speaker 2: the last month looks like offensive, you know, make make
- 8:01Speaker 2: up some ground and certain things. Second base with a
- 8:04Speaker 2: gold glove and let's say a good home run total,
- 8:08Speaker 2: you know he's not gonna have the RBIs because he's
- 8:10Speaker 2: leading off right, so you can't hold him. Let's say
- 8:13Speaker 2: if he gets to two fifty with twenty, I mean
- 8:17Speaker 2: he's gonna have to get to He's gonna have to
- 8:19Speaker 2: get over twenty for sure, So I don't like his chances.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Let's be honest, because of thirty and one hundred is good.
- 8:27Speaker 2: There really is no other way to say that. But
- 8:30Speaker 2: if JJ gets himself a gold glove or gets in
- 8:33Speaker 2: that category, which it's really hard to win a gold
- 8:35Speaker 2: glove your first year, that make you earn it a
- 8:37Speaker 2: little bit. So if you were to win a Gold
- 8:40Speaker 2: Glove and hit twenty five home runs, I would say
- 8:43Speaker 2: he would win it. But I don't think he's going
- 8:45Speaker 2: to do either. But he's had a really good first
- 8:48Speaker 2: year and he can't you know, he can't be mad
- 8:49Speaker 2: in lops is. You know, you'd like to be over
- 8:52Speaker 2: eight hundred and all that. So he's kind of lacking
- 8:54Speaker 2: in every category that he needs to to catch to
- 8:58Speaker 2: catch him. But he's had a really good for yere.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Yeah, another year, he'd probably be definitely nationally Rookie of
- 9:05Speaker 1: the Year. And you can't take.
- 9:06Speaker 2: The defense Cincinnati Ballmart helps the home run total, I
- 9:09Speaker 2: will tell you.
- 9:10Speaker 1: That right, no question, JJ has more runs. But as
- 9:15Speaker 1: the broadcasters for the Reds put it, we're terrible. How
- 9:19Speaker 1: bad would we be without Al Stewart in the lone.
- 9:23Speaker 2: We're not talking about MVP. We're not talking about MVP race.
- 9:26Speaker 2: You know, it's like MVPs. What matters how terrible will
- 9:29Speaker 2: we be or how good will we be if if
- 9:30Speaker 2: we didn't have this guy. So you'd be really terrible
- 9:33Speaker 2: if you didn't have a Rookie of the Year. Not
- 9:35Speaker 2: and he's not even in the MVP race. So that's
- 9:37Speaker 2: tough for them.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Yeah, there's no question about it. All right, we're gonna
- 9:41Speaker 1: take a break here. You're watching Cardinal Territory on the
- 9:44Speaker 1: foul Territory network.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Hey, for those of you that are on your phone,
- 9:49Speaker 3: it's very often, or even if you don't use it much,
- 9:52Speaker 3: you should check out your wireless bill and make sure
- 9:54Speaker 3: that it is treating you well in summertime. You're feeling good, right, aj,
- 9:58Speaker 3: But are you spending too much on your wireless bill?
- 10:01Speaker 3: And should mintmobile get involved?
- 10:03Speaker 1: Now?
- 10:03Speaker 4: Some of them has two college aged kids, Scott. They're
- 10:06Speaker 4: always on their phone, whether it's they're checking their snap,
- 10:08Speaker 4: they're checking their DMS, they're checking their Twitter. I need
- 10:12Speaker 4: fifteen dollars a month because I need unlimited quality coverage
- 10:15Speaker 4: that mintmobile provides.
- 10:16Speaker 3: They get that new wireless plan for just fifteen bucks

- 10:38Speaker 3: only greater than fifty gigabytes may slow when network is busy.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Includes up to twenty gigabyte hotspot capable device required availability,
- 10:44Speaker 3: speed and coverage varies ce mintmobile dot Com.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Cardinal territory. So the Cardinals as
- 10:50Speaker 1: they play this out, still have a decent shot at
- 10:54Speaker 1: getting that third wild card, but they're still trying to
- 10:56Speaker 1: answer some questions, and one of the questions is who's
- 11:00Speaker 1: a third Blaze Jordan to me, has shown really well
- 11:04Speaker 1: in his limited time at third base. He had a
- 11:08Speaker 1: base running issue because he's not that fast when they
- 11:11Speaker 1: tried to have him score, and he's had some fielding
- 11:15Speaker 1: issues not bad. I think he's solid at third base,
- 11:18Speaker 1: but I don't know if he's in the running for
- 11:20Speaker 1: Gold Glove. What impresses me about Blaze He hasn't tapped
- 11:24Speaker 1: in to his power yet, but he gives you a
- 11:27Speaker 1: good ad pat and he uses the whole field. Like
- 11:30Speaker 1: to me, he doesn't look like a guy who's swinging
- 11:33Speaker 1: for the fences every time, but I know based on
- 11:36Speaker 1: his minor league stats. The power is there, he just
- 11:39Speaker 1: hasn't tapped in. So when I look at Blaze Jordan,
- 11:42Speaker 1: I think quite possibly he could be the guy at
- 11:45Speaker 1: third base. Where are you on Blaze?
- 11:48Speaker 2: So my question to you, if you think he's quite pussy,
- 11:51Speaker 2: is he Jed Jerco ish?
- 11:54Speaker 1: No, I think he's I think he's more. Look, I
- 11:57Speaker 1: love Jed Jerco, but Jed Jerko hit twenty homers and
- 12:01Speaker 1: give you forty RBIs maybe sometimes thirty five, said the
- 12:07Speaker 1: king of the solo home run in the eighth inning. Eight. Yeah,
- 12:10Speaker 1: and I love it, and I'll and i'll great tap
- 12:14Speaker 1: great clubhouse, love, love love. I think Blaize Jordan uses
- 12:19Speaker 1: a whole field on more than than Jed ever did.
- 12:22Speaker 1: And I think the power isn't going to be like
- 12:25Speaker 1: more all or nothing like it was with Jed. And
- 12:28Speaker 1: he impresses me with the way he can handle batting
- 12:32Speaker 1: with two strikes. Look, it's his first taste in the
- 12:34Speaker 1: big leagues, right, So I get it there's gonna be
- 12:37Speaker 1: an adjustment period. But when I look at him, I
- 12:40Speaker 1: think there's a guy who will be a major league hitter,
- 12:43Speaker 1: and not just because he has some thump because we
- 12:46Speaker 1: haven't even seen that yet.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Well, so you answer my question, if you think he
- 12:50Speaker 2: can be better than Jed Jerko, then yes, he can
- 12:52Speaker 2: be an everyday third basement for you. And that's there's
- 12:55Speaker 2: really no other way to say it. The power is
- 12:57Speaker 2: going to come for guys as they get there and
- 13:00Speaker 2: get at bats and get some stuff on pitchers and
- 13:03Speaker 2: get an idea of when to go for it and
- 13:05Speaker 2: when not right now, it's like, hey, he's trying to
- 13:07Speaker 2: make sure he does his thing and all that. You know,
- 13:09Speaker 2: maybe he's I think he's serviceable at third Defensively, I
- 13:13Speaker 2: think he's going to add more to the play as
- 13:17Speaker 2: he goes here. So yes, he could be the answer
- 13:22Speaker 2: at third base, especially if if we can get him
- 13:24Speaker 2: to hit two fifty with the ability to maybe maybe
- 13:27Speaker 2: hit more in the twenty home run range, then yeah,
- 13:30Speaker 2: then we've got something that. You know, obviously numbers aren't
- 13:33Speaker 2: as high as you would like a third baseman to
- 13:35Speaker 2: be him right now, but he's also you know, look
- 13:37Speaker 2: where he's adding is at bats and stuff. So far,
- 13:40Speaker 2: he's you know, he's like a one hundred and sixty
- 13:41Speaker 2: six at bats so far in the big league. So
- 13:44Speaker 2: I think you got a let him play. I like
- 13:46Speaker 2: I said, like I said with the Jed Erco, Jed
- 13:47Speaker 2: Jerco is a was a good major league player? Could
- 13:50Speaker 2: he you know, could we have you know, could he
- 13:53Speaker 2: could Jordan be better him?
- 13:55Speaker 1: Yes?
- 13:55Speaker 2: I think so. So that gives him that I think
- 13:57Speaker 2: he could be the answer. So that was why I
- 13:59Speaker 2: asked the Jed Jerco question, because Jed was a twenty
- 14:01Speaker 2: home run plus guy, you know, and he played serviceable
- 14:05Speaker 2: infield when he had to play the infield. And I
- 14:07Speaker 2: think it's the same thing with Blaze, with maybe even
- 14:10Speaker 2: more upside.
- 14:12Speaker 1: And Jed was fun in the clubhouse. Blaze seems like
- 14:15Speaker 1: a nice guy, but Jed was more of a character.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Let's talk about guys who's come the character. The character
- 14:21Speaker 1: comes more confidence, you get more home runs, you.
- 14:23Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:25Speaker 1: I just don't know if anyone like Jed Jerko was
- 14:27Speaker 1: a unique dude, right. I love that about him. He
- 14:31Speaker 1: was like you, He'd challenge it, he'd come after you
- 14:34Speaker 1: and everything like that. I think Blaze might be more polite,
- 14:37Speaker 1: but maybe we can bring that out of him. Here's hoping,
- 14:40Speaker 1: because the more guys, to me want to have a
- 14:43Speaker 1: back and forth, the better it is for the media
- 14:46Speaker 1: because it's more fun. I want to ask you about
- 14:49Speaker 1: Quinn Matthews. Two starts, nine innings, ten k's six walks,
- 14:54Speaker 1: three ear in runs, So if you take that as
- 14:56Speaker 1: one start, you're in right. The walks weren't pro problem.
- 15:00Speaker 1: But I also think too, based on the fact we're
- 15:03Speaker 1: talking two major league starts. You're brought up, you start
- 15:07Speaker 1: a lot of pressure, a lot of stuff on his shoulders.
- 15:10Speaker 1: I think he's shown, well, where are you with Quinn? Yeah?
- 15:14Speaker 2: No, he's shown some promise, right, there's some The strikeouts
- 15:17Speaker 2: are there. He's not giving up a whole lot of hits.
- 15:21Speaker 2: He's walking too many guys, which I think comes with
- 15:24Speaker 2: what we expect from him with his minor league numbers.
- 15:26Speaker 2: He's going to walk probably to a game, give or take.
- 15:30Speaker 2: So if he can make sure that those two walks
- 15:33Speaker 2: a game come when he's not giving up any hits
- 15:35Speaker 2: and he's got the ability to strike someone out, then
- 15:37Speaker 2: so be it. I think the stuff plays if we
- 15:40Speaker 2: can hone it in not walk more than two in
- 15:42Speaker 2: a game. He's got the ability to strike enough people
- 15:44Speaker 2: out to get himself out of trouble. So yes, I
- 15:48Speaker 2: think there is some upside there. Moving forward. Now, the
- 15:53Speaker 2: question is is where can we get him enough starts
- 15:55Speaker 2: down the stretch here to make it worth his while
- 15:59Speaker 2: in their while to take that next step going into
- 16:02Speaker 2: next year. He's got to get starts on a routine
- 16:07Speaker 2: with the pitching coach. They're throwing bullpens so they can
- 16:11Speaker 2: actually work on the things they need to do at
- 16:13Speaker 2: the big league level to be ready to make big
- 16:15Speaker 2: league starts. I think that's the next step for him,
- 16:18Speaker 2: and that's what I've been kind of advocating. With the
- 16:20Speaker 2: six man rotation in September, he has to make a
- 16:24Speaker 2: start every five or six days, just like the rest
- 16:27Speaker 2: of them in the rotation, so they can all finish strong,
- 16:31Speaker 2: finish healthy, but also get that taste of what a
- 16:34Speaker 2: full season looks like. But for him, he's going to
- 16:37Speaker 2: be with Dusty, He's going to be with the pitching
- 16:38Speaker 2: coaches in the big leagues to actually get better at
- 16:41Speaker 2: the end here because he's done what he needs to
- 16:43Speaker 2: do in the minor leagues, come to the big leagues,
- 16:45Speaker 2: know what a five day, six day rotation looks like
- 16:48Speaker 2: and what you can be and then hopefully the walks
- 16:50Speaker 2: go down because he's not It's not fast for him
- 16:53Speaker 2: because he's been there all week, been talking, been going
- 16:55Speaker 2: over game plans, been watching these teams that he's facing
- 16:58Speaker 2: instead of just showing up and pitch that day. So
- 17:01Speaker 2: that's what I think is going to be the best
- 17:03Speaker 2: for him going forward, is Hey, we need five or
- 17:06Speaker 2: six starts in a row where you're here, you're doing
- 17:09Speaker 2: the things, You're a big league here, You're not on
- 17:11Speaker 2: a shuttle.
- 17:13Speaker 1: I think this this kid too. He's got moxie, and
- 17:17Speaker 1: he's already felt the pressure, like everyone's already wanted to
- 17:21Speaker 1: see him, every Cardinal fan.
- 17:22Speaker 2: You never feel the pressure, Jim, until you're until you're
- 17:25Speaker 2: trying to win a division and trying to make a
- 17:27Speaker 2: playoff push. So he hasn't felt any pressure. He showed
- 17:31Speaker 2: up for a team that was that was rebuilding. They're
- 17:34Speaker 2: retooling this year. That's what you show up. So no
- 17:37Speaker 2: one's felt the pressure yet, none of them technically.
- 17:41Speaker 1: But there you know. But no, that's a fair point.
- 17:45Speaker 1: You got to go through the gauntlet before you're a
- 17:47Speaker 1: season starting pitcher in Major League base.
- 17:50Speaker 2: We got the first two starts out of the way.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Now let's see what he can do for four or
- 17:55Speaker 2: five six starts in a row where they know he's coming,
- 17:58Speaker 2: and he knows they're coming, and would see who's ready
- 18:01Speaker 2: for who, and who can make the adjustments fair enough.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Another quick break. You're watching Cardinal Territory on the Foul

- 19:10Speaker 1: We talk a lot about Major League Baseball, as we should.
- 19:12Speaker 1: It is cardinal territory. But a lot of folks watching,
- 19:15Speaker 1: a lot of dads, a lot of moms have kids
- 19:18Speaker 1: playing youth baseball, maybe youth softball, and lets you were
- 19:23Speaker 1: a major league player who had a lot of fire
- 19:26Speaker 1: in the belly, but you're also a parent, tell me
- 19:29Speaker 1: something that can help parents of youngsters be better youth baseball,
- 19:37Speaker 1: softball sports parents.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Oh man, I always went by. The thing is let
- 19:44Speaker 2: them be themselves, let them learn to play the game.
- 19:47Speaker 2: And if you are coaching them from the stands and
- 19:51Speaker 2: their coaches coaching them from the dugout, there's a lot
- 19:54Speaker 2: of voices coming into their head at one time where
- 19:56Speaker 2: they could get a little scrambled and not concentrate on
- 19:59Speaker 2: what they're doing. As a youth person or a youth player.
- 20:03Speaker 2: We're about having fun, we're about learning the game, and
- 20:06Speaker 2: we're learning to compete. And then nothing really matters until
- 20:09Speaker 2: you get into high school when it comes to winning
- 20:12Speaker 2: state championships and things of that nature. So learn the game,
- 20:15Speaker 2: have fun with it, learn how to compete, so it's
- 20:18Speaker 2: actually time to compete, you're ready, and you actually enjoy
- 20:21Speaker 2: playing the game. Because the more you make it too much,
- 20:23Speaker 2: or the more you make it more than it is
- 20:26Speaker 2: when they're younger, the less they're going to want to
- 20:29Speaker 2: do it, and the less they're going to enjoy it
- 20:30Speaker 2: later in life. So that's my little tidbit.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Yeah, listen to your coaches. I think that's fair too.
- 20:38Speaker 1: But as someone with a professional background with your kids,
- 20:42Speaker 1: do you feel that sometimes your knowledge might be maybe
- 20:47Speaker 1: more steeped in the experience than say the youth coaches
- 20:51Speaker 1: or do you just step aside let coaches have act it.
- 20:56Speaker 2: You know, I teach them what I think they need
- 20:57Speaker 2: to be taught at home. They go whatever their coaches
- 21:00Speaker 2: plays or whatever it might be, or what they're going
- 21:03Speaker 2: to do on their team. I think my issue right
- 21:06Speaker 2: now is if when I help out at coach and
- 21:07Speaker 2: I got a parent yell out of the stands opposite
- 21:10Speaker 2: or what I tell them to do, That's where I
- 21:12Speaker 2: get my my uh. I wouldn't say my feelings are.
- 21:15Speaker 2: That's where I get my I get kind of wowed
- 21:19Speaker 2: at somebody where you know it's like, okay, you do
- 21:22Speaker 2: you then I guess. So my goal is to let
- 21:26Speaker 2: my kids have fun with if I'm not helping out,
- 21:28Speaker 2: and if I am helping out, I try to teach
- 21:29Speaker 2: them the game, and I try to teach them to
- 21:31Speaker 2: have fun and do things the right way, and you know,
- 21:34Speaker 2: go from there. So it's hard to tell me what
- 21:37Speaker 2: that is.
- 21:38Speaker 1: You tell me, please tell me what someone was yelling.
- 21:43Speaker 1: You were saying do this, and apparently please tell me
- 21:46Speaker 1: what that was.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Well, it's like, hey, you know, two outs, you know,
- 21:50Speaker 2: plays at this and then someone's like, hey, there's runners
- 21:52Speaker 2: on first and third. Get the out at third or
- 21:54Speaker 2: first and second, get the out at third. I go again,
- 21:57Speaker 2: there are two outs, easiest base, but most likely the
- 22:00Speaker 2: plays at first. You're not trying to get the lead
- 22:02Speaker 2: runner at third with two outs, So you know, I
- 22:07Speaker 2: shot to shut your mouth stare to the stands, but
- 22:11Speaker 2: I try to keep my mouth shut.
- 22:13Speaker 1: That's awesome, Lance Lendon, the Parent of Youth Sports, I
- 22:17Speaker 1: like that. All right, that's gonna do it for this
- 22:19Speaker 1: edition of Cardinal Tear It Tour We'll see you next
- 22:22Speaker 1: time for the next episode. Hopefully that one won't suck.
