Speaker 1: mean for a guy that doesn't even lift anymore, you
• 0:10
Speaker 1: got a nice try try.
• 0:11
  Speaker 2: I lift a little bit. I left a little bit.
• 0:13
  Speaker 3: Now.
• 0:13
Speaker 1: You said you're just doing peloton, but you're not like
• 0:15
  Speaker 1: curling iron.
• 0:16
Speaker 2: Oh no, I got a couple of weights that I
• 0:18
Speaker 2: curl every now and then, just to you know, keep
• 0:20
  Speaker 2: my shit quick.
• 0:21
Speaker 1: Oh. I just thought you were doing you were you
• 0:23
Speaker 1: were on a quarantine trip where you were just like
• 0:25
  Speaker 1: Cardio nothing else.
• 0:26
Speaker 2: No, I thought you were about to say carbs and
• 0:28
Speaker 2: nothing else. Yeah, I'm doing that too though.
• 0:32
Speaker 1: By the way, A lot of love, A lot of
• 0:34
Speaker 1: love for the first animation we put out.
• 0:37
  Speaker 2: I love it.
• 0:38
Speaker 1: I love it, and it's so funny. It's only thirty seconds,
• 0:41
Speaker 1: but I've watched it like nine hundred times.
• 0:43
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like when we first heard the uh, when
• 0:46
Speaker 2: we first heard the theme song. I remember how crazy
• 0:48
Speaker 2: we were going for the theme song when we first
• 0:50
  Speaker 2: heard it.
• 0:51
Speaker 1: For those of you who don't know this company, Cartooner
• 0:54
Speaker 1: Radio is an animation company in Brooklyn, and they did
• 0:58
Speaker 1: an animation of Moment of Donald and my podcast of
• 1:02
Speaker 1: this podcast, and they just you know, tagged us on
• 1:06
Speaker 1: Instagram and we thought it was so funny. We hit
• 1:09
Speaker 1: them up and said, you know, can we work out
• 1:11
Speaker 1: a situation where we'll obviously pay you, but will you
• 1:15
Speaker 1: do like some quick little thirty second moments from the podcast.
• 1:18
Speaker 1: And they thought that was awesome, and so now we
• 1:21
Speaker 1: we're starting to roll some of them out. In the
• 1:22
Speaker 1: first one we just put on our Instagram today, although
• 1:26
Speaker 1: this was this was this was this will be like
• 1:28
Speaker 1: a week, this will be a this will be like
• 1:29
Speaker 1: a week later. But anyway, they did the moment with
• 1:31
Speaker 1: Donald giving Jeff Zucker and noogies, and the animation is
• 1:34
Speaker 1: so funny. Dude, your eyes are all.
• 1:36
Speaker 2: Fucked bloodshot, dude, Like they knew I smoked that ship
• 1:40
Speaker 2: and they knew I drank that ship that night.
• 1:44
Speaker 1: Well, we did talk about how fuck uff we were, yeah.
• 1:47
Speaker 2: But I didn't talk about how I smoked that ship.
• 1:49
Speaker 2: Like when you when you drink, your eyes don't get
• 1:51
  Speaker 2: red like.
• 1:51
Speaker 1: That hot pink. But what they got, you, you know what
• 1:56
Speaker 1: they got. Maybe they're listening and they got because another
• 1:58
Speaker 1: episode I mentioned how when you're hammered you like this this.
• 2:01
Speaker 1: What do you call this?
• 2:01
Speaker 2: When you do this? It's a high step. I got
• 2:04
Speaker 2: that shit from you, though, dude.
• 2:05
Speaker 1: Right anyway, just a drunk high step. And then when
• 2:08
Speaker 1: they in the animation, when you're headed over to Zuker,
• 2:10
Speaker 1: you're like, get over that. Shit's hilarious. It's funny out
• 2:15
Speaker 1: loud and what I love about on Instagram. I'm sure
• 2:17
Speaker 1: they're doing it on yours too. People are like saying, Oh,
• 2:19
Speaker 1: you got to do this moment, Oh you gotta do
• 2:21
Speaker 1: the washcloth to be you gotta do this.
• 2:23
Speaker 2: They are doing that. What's crazy is that I think
• 2:25
Speaker 2: you need to tell each and every one of your
• 2:27
Speaker 2: followers that you demand that they follow me or fuck off, because.
• 2:33
  Speaker 1: I would never followers don't.
• 2:35
Speaker 2: I don't listen. I look at what your numbers are,
• 2:38
Speaker 2: and I look at what my numbers are on Instagram,
• 2:41
Speaker 2: and I gotta be honest with you, I'm a little jealous. Dude.
• 2:45
Speaker 1: You're assuming that they're all scrubs folks. They might be
• 2:47
Speaker 1: some people that love Garden State and uh.
• 2:50
Speaker 2: And so where are my clueless people at? Huh? Where
• 2:52
Speaker 2: am I remember the Titans people at? Where my motherfucking
• 2:56
Speaker 2: I'm telling you right now, where my motherfucking waiting to
• 2:59
Speaker 2: exhale people at where my parents ransome people at, where
• 3:02
Speaker 2: my tripping people at, where my listen. I'm gonna put
• 3:06
Speaker 2: it out there, man, because where they at they need
• 3:08
  Speaker 2: to represent.
• 3:09
Speaker 1: Where your Homie Spamoni people wear them.
• 3:11
Speaker 2: Homie Spamoni, where my next day people at? Yo? Come
• 3:14
  Speaker 2: on now.
• 3:15
Speaker 1: Homie Spamoni is a film that Donald made. It's basically
• 3:18
Speaker 1: the plot of The Jerk, except instead of a white
• 3:21
Speaker 1: baby being dropped off at a black family's home, Donald's
• 3:24
Speaker 1: a black baby that's dropped off at an Italian family's home.
• 3:27
  Speaker 3: Right.
• 3:27
Speaker 2: No, no, no, I'm not even dropped off. They literally kidnapped
• 3:31
  Speaker 2: me pretty much.
• 3:32
Speaker 1: Oh they kidnap you.
• 3:33
Speaker 2: Yeah. They find me floating in the river in Italy
• 3:38
Speaker 2: and the mom kidnaps me like like Moses. Uh, well yeah,
• 3:44
Speaker 2: I guess so. But Moses was you know.
• 3:47
Speaker 1: Wasn't Moses put in a basket.
• 3:48
Speaker 2: And yeah, trying to escape?
• 3:50

• 3:54
Speaker 1: put Moses? Who the wife?
• 3:57
Speaker 2: Yeah? No, Moses, and then Pharaoh's wife found her, found
• 4:00
  Speaker 2: him out.

  Speaker 1: Oh that's a compliment because it was a compliment. I
• 4:50
  Speaker 1: think she's a Jersey girl, is she? I don't know.
• 4:53
Speaker 2: They got a lot of Italians in Jersey.
• 4:55
Speaker 1: Listen, I gotta tell you something. I've never seen that movie.
• 4:58

• 10:14
Speaker 2: to talk a little bit more than you and I did.
• 10:17
Speaker 2: But I remember, I mean, and then I read the

Speaker 2: essay and you made it seem like you were like
• 10:21
Speaker 2: all crazy, like holy shit, holy shit, you got a
• 10:25
Speaker 2: little bit cooler than that.
• 10:26

• 10:30
Speaker 5: my head. There's only been a few times in my
• 10:32
Speaker 5: life I was Starstruck.
• 10:33
Speaker 2: But it was me, Denzel Washington and Michael Jordan.
• 10:35
  Speaker 5: I know, I know, I know, I know, I'm watching
• 10:38
Speaker 5: you walk in that room. I don't know if it's
• 10:39
Speaker 5: because I was surprised or because I had just finished,
• 10:42
Speaker 5: Like I was already working on the Scrubs thing, so
• 10:44
Speaker 5: I had gone through the whole series again, whatever it was.

Speaker 2: You took you were there for You were there for
• 10:55
Speaker 2: a book, right, You were there for another book, but
• 10:57
Speaker 2: it was it wasn't the rap book. It was the
• 10:59
Speaker 2: basketball book right now?
• 11:00
Speaker 5: Was the basketball one? Came out in twenty seventeen, October
• 11:04
Speaker 5: of last year. I did movies and other things, movies,
• 11:07
Speaker 5: and so that's when I was in I was in

Speaker 5: New York, you know, doing all the press stuff.
• 11:12
Speaker 2: Okay, Rich, I'm sorry before we.
• 11:14
Speaker 1: Talk, little word in Edgeway. See, this is what's gonna happen.
• 11:17
Speaker 1: This is my nightmare, right Joelle. They just suddenly they
• 11:20
Speaker 1: turned my mic down and they just go off.
• 11:22
Speaker 2: Well, I just wanted to get into the basketball thing,
• 11:25
Speaker 2: get into you said, you think my game would be
• 11:27
Speaker 2: more like, like you imagine my game being like PJ. Tucker.
• 11:30
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm gonna agree with that.
• 11:32
Speaker 2: I'm gonna agree I knew it.
• 11:34
Speaker 5: I'm gonna agree with that. I'd watched enough.
• 11:36
Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, a lot of jump shots, some defense,
• 11:40
Speaker 2: very competitive and talks a lot of shit. Yeah that's me.
• 11:43
  Speaker 5: That's about right.
• 11:45
Speaker 2: I wish I had a little bit of a you know,
• 11:47
Speaker 2: a silkier game. I wish my game was more like
• 11:49
Speaker 2: Klay Thompson. But PJ. Tucker was spot on. Man, he's
• 11:53
  Speaker 2: a he's a great uh. I don't even know if
• 11:55
Speaker 2: you would consider him a role player. He's just like
• 11:57
Speaker 2: a glue guy, right.
• 11:59
Speaker 5: Yeah, he's in a sin player on that Rocket team.
• 12:01
Speaker 5: I lived in lerrman, I lived in Houston for fourteen years,
• 12:04
Speaker 5: so we were there like when he showed up. And
• 12:06
Speaker 5: then he's one of those guys who, like, if you
• 12:08
Speaker 5: go to the city where he's playing, everybody there just
• 12:11
Speaker 5: fucking loves him. Yeah, because all the stuff he does.
• 12:13
Speaker 1: Yeah, Now, Shaye, I have a question, do you know,
• 12:16
Speaker 1: do you have your book? Like could Donald about your
• 12:18
Speaker 1: wrap book? And Shaye is everything he writes becomes a
• 12:22
Speaker 1: best seller, including the Rap Yearbook the most Important rap
• 12:27
Speaker 1: song from every year since nineteen seventy nine, discussed, debated,
• 12:30
Speaker 1: and deconstructed. Billboard said this was one of the best
• 12:34
Speaker 1: one hundred best music books of all time, which, holy shit, man,
• 12:38
Speaker 1: congratulations on an accomplishment like that.
• 12:41
Speaker 2: Round of thunderous applause.
• 12:42
Speaker 1: Yeah, Dan, please put in some thunder's applause. You won't
• 12:46
Speaker 1: hear it, Shay, so just imagine it. It's just it's
• 12:48
Speaker 1: like a stadium. You listen to the podcast, right, Shaye.
• 12:51
Speaker 1: I've seen you on so you know you know how
• 12:54
Speaker 1: Dan really brings the thunderous applause. Now, Shay, if Donald
• 12:58
Speaker 1: were to say, because Donald loves rap, if you were
• 13:00
Speaker 1: to like mention a year, you don't have this memorize, right,
• 13:03
Speaker 1: or do you? If he would just say, like if
• 13:05
Speaker 1: Donald were to be like, all right, ninety seven, would
• 13:07
Speaker 1: you be like, oh, this is what I wrote about that.
• 13:10
Speaker 5: I believe, so ninety seven is puff daddy. If I'm
• 13:13
Speaker 5: not mistaken, which one I want to say, you.
• 13:17
Speaker 2: Can look it up.
• 13:18
Speaker 1: It's so good as sad as I am about how
• 13:21
Speaker 1: much how well you guys are hitting it off. I
• 13:22
Speaker 1: just feel like once this rap conversation starts, It'll be
• 13:25
Speaker 1: Donald's favorite conversation in the world because he really really
• 13:28
Speaker 1: loves rap, like as long as I've known him.
• 13:31
Speaker 5: Yeah, it's the best music in the world. It was
• 13:33
Speaker 5: a can't Nobody Hold Me Down?
• 13:35
Speaker 2: Can't know okay with him and Mace, with him and.
• 13:38
Speaker 5: Mace, Yeah, Okay, that was that one because because that
• 13:40
Speaker 5: was when when when rap had like they were doing
• 13:45
Speaker 5: the whole shiny suit thing. It was like it became
• 13:47
Speaker 5: all about opulence and.
• 13:48
Speaker 1: High bullium and the high Williams of Mint music videos, right.
• 13:51
Speaker 5: That those ones came a little bit. Yeah, so right
• 13:53
Speaker 5: right around then, I remember.
• 13:54
Speaker 1: Around ninety seven, I just picked ninety seven.
• 13:56
  Speaker 2: Can't Nobody Hold Me Down? Was a wasn't a HiPE
• 13:58
  Speaker 2: william Yeah, I'm.
• 13:59
Speaker 1: Miss saying because I was when I was peeing fresh
• 14:01
Speaker 1: out of college. I was peeing on rap videos in
• 14:04
Speaker 1: New York and I don't really know the music that well,
• 14:07
Speaker 1: but I remember like HiPE Williams was a god at
• 14:09
Speaker 1: the time. And that's just right around the time all
• 14:10
Speaker 1: those Mace Puffy videos were coming out.
• 14:12
Speaker 2: That was the one where they went in the desert,
• 14:14
Speaker 2: right And isn't j Lo in it too?
• 14:17
Speaker 5: Yeah, she's in that one.
• 14:18
Speaker 2: Yeah, yea, yeah, yeah, all.
• 14:19
Speaker 1: Right, Donald, do you want to pick a year now
• 14:20
Speaker 1: that he's got it up, just pick sure?
• 14:22
  Speaker 2: I mean, but I mean, okay, ninety two, that's a
• 14:25
  Speaker 2: hard one.
• 14:26
  Speaker 5: Nineteen ninety two, Oh, like I don't have I don't
• 14:29
Speaker 5: have the book up. I was looking at the song
• 14:32
Speaker 5: I wanted to me to put you on I didn't
• 14:33
Speaker 5: mean to put you on the spot. I just wondered
• 14:36
Speaker 5: that you knew, ye that's no voice. But I will
• 14:38
Speaker 5: say I know, like I know. Ninety two was nothing
• 14:41
  Speaker 5: but a g thing.
• 14:42
  Speaker 1: That was wow.
• 14:43
Speaker 2: Yeah, there was a right, that's a great, great record, man, right,
• 14:46
Speaker 2: record that was really really good. That Chronic was one
• 14:49
Speaker 2: of oh my gosh, man, there were a lot of
• 14:51
Speaker 2: great albums that came out, though. I feel like in
• 14:54
Speaker 2: ninety two, you know what I mean, that was it. Yeah,
• 14:56
Speaker 2: I graduated, I think from high school.
• 14:58
Speaker 1: I'm pretty I liked that song rolling down the street
• 15:01
Speaker 1: smoking and sipping on gin and juice.
• 15:06
Speaker 5: That was so that's not the Doggie style album. And
• 15:09
Speaker 5: there's like there's like a constant debate between which is
• 15:11
Speaker 5: a better G funk album, between between the Chronic and
• 15:14
  Speaker 5: Doggi style.
• 15:15
Speaker 2: Both the dope man.
• 15:17
Speaker 5: Pick one, Pick one? Which one do you want to
• 15:19
Speaker 5: listen to right now?
• 15:22
Speaker 2: Ship man? Well, because no, because what happened is with.
• 15:27
  Speaker 1: To do it.
• 15:28
Speaker 2: What happened is it's hard, man, because Doggie Style, Nate Dogg,
• 15:31
Speaker 2: all these cats are on that record. Man on this
• 15:37
Speaker 2: it's hard because you know what, I take it back,
• 15:40
Speaker 2: I go chronic. But just because of Deep Cover, I
• 15:43
  Speaker 2: could feel it.
• 15:45
Speaker 5: I heard that ship.
• 15:46
Speaker 2: I remember when Deep Cover of the movie came out
• 15:48
Speaker 2: and that song was on the deep Cover soundtrack, and
• 15:51
Speaker 2: my boy played me that ship and we listened to
• 15:53
Speaker 2: that ship over. We listened to that song over and
• 15:56
Speaker 2: over and over again. And this is before the beef
• 15:58
Speaker 2: with East Coast West Coast stuff, and it was just like, Yo,
• 16:01
Speaker 2: this is the this is the dopest thing I ever
• 16:04
Speaker 2: heard in my life.
• 16:05
Speaker 5: Yes, it's one of the one of those moments where
• 16:06
Speaker 5: you like, I've never heard something like this, Yeah you're
• 16:10
Speaker 5: snoop sort of lollygagging out into song like who yeah
• 16:12
  Speaker 5: is this guy?
• 16:14
Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah that and the beat was fucking fire and
• 16:16
Speaker 2: fucking and then the cook was yeah, and you don't
• 16:20
Speaker 2: stop because it's one eight seven on an undercover cop was.
• 16:25
Speaker 1: Still ever make a documentary about this because I read
• 16:27
Speaker 1: that there was talk of it.
• 16:28
Speaker 5: Did they ever make it a documentary about you?
• 16:31
  Speaker 1: Of your book?
• 16:31
Speaker 5: Oh? Yeah, yeah yeah. So what happened is a production
• 16:35
Speaker 5: company got the rights for it, and then we signed
• 16:37
Speaker 5: up with the Roots. They became like executive producers on it,
• 16:40
Speaker 5: and then they sold it to We sold this series
• 16:42
Speaker 5: to AMC and they did a six episode thing where
• 16:45
Speaker 5: it was like six episodes. Each episode was about one
• 16:47
Speaker 5: particular song. They're an hour long, and so it became
• 16:51
Speaker 5: like a videover. It was really cool. I got to
• 16:52
Speaker 5: go out to New York. They did like a concert,
• 16:55
Speaker 5: The Roost did a concert before that, and then they
• 16:58
Speaker 5: showed the the one of the episodes is the one
• 17:01
Speaker 5: that they did on on Jesus Walks, and it was
• 17:04
Speaker 5: it was really really cool to.
• 17:05
Speaker 1: What It's so cool because as I'm listening to you
• 17:07
Speaker 1: talk about it, I mean, I just think it would
• 17:08
Speaker 1: be such an amazing I can understand why it be
• 17:10
Speaker 1: amazing series. I wouldn't check that out.
• 17:11
Speaker 5: I definitely yeah, it was great, you know what as
• 17:13
Speaker 5: neat is. So they we got all signed up and
• 17:16
Speaker 5: they like, we sold the series and they started working
• 17:18
Speaker 5: on it and they gave me a phone call and
• 17:20
Speaker 5: they're like, hey, do you want to call in, and
• 17:21
Speaker 5: like we're brainstorming and helping out doing whatever, and I
• 17:23
Speaker 5: was like, oh yeah, yeah, like that'll be cool because
• 17:25
  Speaker 5: I like I know a lot about REP. We're doing
• 17:27
Speaker 5: this whole thing. And I called in and Black Thought
• 17:30
Speaker 5: and quest Lever both in there and like everything that
• 17:33
Speaker 5: somebody brought up, like I had like a third hand story,
• 17:36
Speaker 5: like oh yeah, I heard a story about a party
• 17:38
Speaker 5: that happened at this thing, and no matter what it was,
• 17:40
Speaker 5: Quest Lever Black Thought, they were like, oh yeah, I
• 17:42
Speaker 5: was at that party. I rode to I was like, okay,
• 17:46
  Speaker 5: I don't want to I don't want to help anymore.
• 17:48
Speaker 5: Like yeah, guys, clearly you got this. I was gonna
• 17:50
  Speaker 5: fall back.
• 17:50
  Speaker 1: That's amazing.
• 17:52
Speaker 2: Yeah. You know, I've been at some places like where
• 17:56
Speaker 2: crazy things happened, like and I was just I just
• 17:59
Speaker 2: happened to be there when the things happened, like you
• 18:01
Speaker 2: know what I mean, Like I was at the party
• 18:03
Speaker 2: where Biggie got killed. You know what? Yeah shit, yeah,
• 18:07
  Speaker 2: yeah yeah.
• 18:07
Speaker 1: Did you did you did you hear like.
• 18:10
Speaker 2: The yeah, I heard I heard gun I was outside,
• 18:12
Speaker 2: so I heard the gunshots. I also I spoke to
• 18:15
Speaker 2: him before all of it happened.
• 18:17
Speaker 1: Oh shit, you never told me this. You saved this
• 18:19
  Speaker 1: for Shay. Dude.
• 18:21
  Speaker 2: You're not a hip hop You're not a hip hop.
• 18:23
  Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not a hip hop dude, but I'm
• 18:25
Speaker 1: a pop culture fan. You could have told me you
• 18:26
Speaker 1: were at that fucking event.
• 18:27
Speaker 2: Yeah, dude, I was at that event event and I
• 18:30
Speaker 2: spoke to him, and then the next morning I found
• 18:33
Speaker 2: out he was there. I actually found out that night
• 18:34
Speaker 2: that he had gotten shot. Somebody came around the corner
• 18:37
Speaker 2: and told me, you know, yo, they just fucking got big,
• 18:40
Speaker 2: and I was like, get the fuck out of here.
• 18:41
Speaker 2: And I remember telling Ricky Bell from Bell Bib Devaux
• 18:44
Speaker 2: and he was like, shut the fuck up, dude, you
• 18:46
Speaker 2: don't know what you're talking about. And then the next morning,
• 18:48
Speaker 2: my boy Dion Richmond called me up on the phone
• 18:50
Speaker 2: and was like, Yo, they killed big last night. And
• 18:53
Speaker 2: I was like holy and and I was like, holy shit,
• 18:55
Speaker 2: I was there, dude, I was. I spoke to him
• 18:58
Speaker 2: right before, you know what I mean, I've did this
• 19:00
Speaker 2: couple of instances, like I was at Nell's the night
• 19:03
Speaker 2: all that shit went down with Tupac and the girl
• 19:05
Speaker 2: on the dance floor and stuff like that. Like I
• 19:07
Speaker 2: was at the I was at the club hanging out
• 19:09
Speaker 2: with my friends and stuff like that, and I was
• 19:12
Speaker 2: there like just a bunch of things. Man, it's weird.
• 19:14
Speaker 2: It's it's my connection to hip hop runs deep.
• 19:17
  Speaker 3: Man.
• 19:17
Speaker 2: I love I love it so much. And when I was,
• 19:19
Speaker 2: when I was younger, I would be You would frequently
• 19:22
Speaker 2: find me at some of these events that were considered
• 19:26
Speaker 2: you know, later on that were considered iconic or pivotal
• 19:30
Speaker 2: moments in artists careers, especially in Tupac's and bigs. Those
• 19:34
Speaker 2: were two big moments. One one was the death of
• 19:36
Speaker 2: one and one was where everybody started looking at somebody
• 19:39
Speaker 2: as a true troublemaker, which was bullshit, but that was
• 19:42
Speaker 2: that was what. From that moment on, Tupac's lane shifted
• 19:46
Speaker 2: from you know, actor rapper to activists to you know,
• 19:51
Speaker 2: his whole run with death Row and the whole East Coast,
• 19:54
Speaker 2: West Coast Beef and all of that stuff. A lot
• 19:57
Speaker 2: of it stemmed from that moment.
• 19:59
Speaker 1: He wasn't even do you think anything.
• 20:00
  Speaker 2: I wasn't that, I wasn't I don't know right right, you.
• 20:05
Speaker 1: Know, like that butterfly effect thing when one thing happens
• 20:07
Speaker 1: and then it causes everything to happen.
• 20:09
Speaker 2: If I take myself out of the equation, everyone would
• 20:12
Speaker 2: have got everybody would have got Donald.
• 20:14
Speaker 1: Donald like bumped into some waiter who then got into
• 20:16
Speaker 1: bad mood and was rude to Tupac, and all of
• 20:18
  Speaker 1: a sudden.
• 20:18
Speaker 5: All this shit happened because Donald did do either of
• 20:21
Speaker 5: y'all follow a writer named Cheo Hadari Coker. No, Okay,
• 20:27
Speaker 5: so he he like works on a ton of stuff,
• 20:29
Speaker 5: but he like worked on the biggie movie Low Riders,
• 20:33
Speaker 5: creed to like a bunch of the stuff that I like.
• 20:34
Speaker 5: So I started following him. But just today he was
• 20:36
Speaker 5: talking about, uh, I think it was today, Maybe might
• 20:39
Speaker 5: have been last night or yesterday, but he was talking
• 20:41
Speaker 5: about when when Tupac did Juice, And he was saying,
• 20:46
Speaker 5: like when he got the role of Bishop, which is
• 20:48
Speaker 5: like the guy who causes all the trouble in it,
• 20:51
Speaker 5: Like that was the beginning of his like gangster rapper,
• 20:54
Speaker 5: Like it's set him on that path, right, Like that's
• 20:56
Speaker 5: just crazy to think about, Like a little thing like that,
• 20:59
Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying.
• 21:00
Speaker 2: Yeah, I was in Juice. I had a really tiny
• 21:03
Speaker 2: role in that movie. And the one thing I remember
• 21:06
Speaker 2: the most about that movie was the premiere and after
• 21:10
Speaker 2: seeing it, and you know, Tupac walking into the it
• 21:15
Speaker 2: was like a Lows on forty second Street or something
• 21:18
Speaker 2: like that. It was in Times Square, I remember that.
• 21:20
Speaker 2: And he walked into the area where everybody was being
• 21:23
Speaker 2: let out of the movie, and it felt like he
• 21:25
Speaker 2: had like the glow around, like the Bruce Leroy glow
• 21:27
Speaker 2: around him, man, because you just knew at that moment
• 21:30
Speaker 2: he was out of here. Man, Yeah, he was just
• 21:33
Speaker 2: out of here. That's when I became a fan of his,
• 21:36
Speaker 2: you know what I mean, Like as an actor, I
• 21:38
Speaker 2: you know, checked on his stuff all the time, all
• 21:40
Speaker 2: of the movies he made and stuff like that. When
• 21:43
  Speaker 2: I was younger, I remember thinking he's a better actor
• 21:45
Speaker 2: than he is a rapper, dude.
• 21:46
Speaker 5: I remember thinking that's like an argument you could honestly,
• 21:50
Speaker 5: legitimately make like he was unbelievable as an actor.
• 21:53
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, he was a very good actor.
• 21:56
Speaker 1: So she tell us like how you came to Scrubs
• 21:58
Speaker 1: and this this book, because I just I was so
• 22:04
Speaker 1: moved by a lot of that. I mean, it's funny
• 22:06
Speaker 1: your book, but also there's moments I was reading and
• 22:09
Speaker 1: that they would give me goosebumps, cause you articulate moments
• 22:12
Speaker 1: in Scrubs. Sometimes I think better than moments and Scrubs
• 22:15
Speaker 1: even were we right? And no, I mean and I
• 22:18
Speaker 1: appreciate that. We love what a fan you are. And
• 22:21
Speaker 1: I was reading something you wrote about the episode we're
• 22:25
Speaker 1: going to talk about today, my occurrence, and I got
• 22:28
Speaker 1: goosebumps when you wrote it. It was about it was
• 22:30
Speaker 1: about when I find out that Brent Fraser's character has
• 22:33
Speaker 1: leukemia and Judy's standing there, and I'm not bullshitting you.
• 22:36
Speaker 1: When I rewatched the episode today, it was even more
• 22:39
Speaker 1: moving than me. It was really unique. It was a
• 22:40
Speaker 1: really unique experience because I don't even remember the moment
• 22:43
Speaker 1: And then I read your essay in his book where
• 22:46
Speaker 1: do you Think We Are? And it gave me goosebumps.
• 22:48
Speaker 1: And then I rewatched the moment today and I was
• 22:50
Speaker 1: so much more moved by it because I had your backstory.
• 22:52
Speaker 1: So so I encourage you, if you're a Scrubs fan,
• 22:55
Speaker 1: to get this book. But anyway, I just wanted to know.
• 22:58
Speaker 1: It's a long question, but how did you come to Scrubs?
• 23:00
Speaker 1: And then how did you come to write this book?
• 23:02
Speaker 5: I came to Scrubs late. This was this was back
• 23:05
Speaker 5: when it was on Netflix, so it's a few you know,
• 23:08
  Speaker 5: several years ago. I didn't. I had never really I
• 23:10
Speaker 5: didn't watch it when it was like on ABC or
• 23:12
Speaker 5: NBC or anything like that. But I started catching it
• 23:15
Speaker 5: when I think it showed up I got a Comedy Central,
• 23:18
Speaker 5: you know, on one of those like cable channels. I
• 23:20
Speaker 5: was like, this is this is like a cool show,
• 23:22
Speaker 5: but there was no way to like rewatch the whole thing.
• 23:24
Speaker 5: You just catch whatever episode you can. And then it
• 23:26
Speaker 5: popped up on Netflix, and Laramie, my wife, she also
• 23:30
Speaker 5: likes to shows, were like, oh, let's like I haven't
• 23:32
Speaker 5: seen like the first four seasons or something. Let's sit
• 23:34
Speaker 5: down and watch it. And so you like, that's how
• 23:37
Speaker 5: it started. It was a few years ago, and then
• 23:38
Speaker 5: it just became one of those shows that we watched
• 23:41
Speaker 5: our whole way through it. We we like fell in
• 23:42
Speaker 5: love with everybody on there. And it was one of
• 23:45
Speaker 5: the ones where it was like, it's been a long
• 23:46
Speaker 5: day and I needed to like unwind and relax and
• 23:49
Speaker 5: I need to like feel some emotions of some sort.
• 23:51
Speaker 5: So let me put put this one on because I
• 23:53
Speaker 5: think and I wrote this in a thing, but I
• 23:56
Speaker 5: think Scrubs is the best TV show ever at like
• 24:00
Speaker 5: balancing between those two worlds. You'll talk about it a
• 24:02
Speaker 5: lot of the time, like how hard of a transition
• 24:04
Speaker 5: that is to make from going from something like totally
• 24:09
Speaker 5: silly and like ridiculous immediately into something just outlandish or
• 24:15
Speaker 5: you know, like crazy serious. So that's how we started
• 24:19
Speaker 5: watching that show, and it just became like like a ritual.
• 24:23
Speaker 5: Every so often we're like, we're going to restart Scrubs again,
• 24:25
Speaker 5: We're gonna watch it, and then that's gonna be like
• 24:27
  Speaker 5: what we do.
• 24:28
  Speaker 2: Right.
• 24:29
Speaker 1: I love it And you and your wife getting debates
• 24:31
Speaker 1: about the show. I saw, and part of the book
• 24:32
Speaker 1: is an email conversation you have about whether or not
• 24:36
Speaker 1: she likes JD or not. And I really appreciated your
• 24:39
Speaker 1: point of view more than Larmer because Laramie, Laramie loves
• 24:45
Speaker 1: the show, but it's JD's not her favorite character. And
• 24:48
Speaker 1: I appreciated Shay debating why he should.
• 24:51
Speaker 5: Be Yeah, yeah, that's like yeah. So that we started
• 24:55
Speaker 5: watching the show, and I realized, like you watch a
• 24:57
Speaker 5: show and depending on like who you are the type
• 24:59
Speaker 5: of person you are. Just watched it a little bit
• 25:00
Speaker 5: different than everybody else, and I realized at some point
• 25:03
Speaker 5: that we were very much watching the show differently. I
• 25:06
Speaker 5: was watching it waiting for like the JD moment to happen,
• 25:09
Speaker 5: when you like make your eyes water or you like
• 25:11
Speaker 5: say a thing real seriously, and she was watching it
• 25:13
Speaker 5: for like for like a Turk and Carlo situation or
• 25:17
Speaker 5: or a doctor Cox situation or whatever, and so like,
• 25:19
Speaker 5: we should let you know, let's talk about this a
• 25:21
  Speaker 5: little bit.
• 25:22
Speaker 1: And that was my.
• 25:23
Speaker 2: Favorite, my favorite. I was skimming through the book because
• 25:26
Speaker 2: you know, I'm not but.
• 25:28
Speaker 1: You don't take it personally. He skimmed through the scripts
• 25:30
Speaker 1: for the episode one.
• 25:33
Speaker 2: I'm not a great reader, and my attentions, my my
• 25:36
Speaker 2: attention focused on to if j D and Turk were
• 25:42
Speaker 2: to ever do a buddy cop movie, what would it be?
• 25:44
Speaker 2: And you go through a bunch of a bunch of
• 25:47
Speaker 2: lists of what movies and I immediately went for Running
• 25:50
Speaker 2: Scared with Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines, Like that's the
• 25:53
Speaker 2: immediate one I went to. And I was like, I
• 25:55
Speaker 2: bet you he doesn't have that on the list, And
• 25:57
Speaker 2: sure enough, it's right there. On list.
• 26:01
Speaker 1: We always over the years, we've always talked about it's
• 26:04
Speaker 1: never happened so far, but we've always talked about wanting
• 26:07
Speaker 1: to do a buddy cop or buddy movie of some
• 26:09
Speaker 1: kind together. I was obsessed with trying to do like
• 26:12
Speaker 1: a Spies Like Us thing, because I thought Donald and
• 26:15
Speaker 1: I could really do. We both love playing guy way
• 26:19
Speaker 1: in over his head and the idea, and like, I mean,
• 26:22
Speaker 1: I don't want to. I would never dare to attempt
• 26:24
Speaker 1: to remake Spies Like Us because I love that movie.
• 26:26
Speaker 1: But the premise of that, like two spies that are
• 26:29
Speaker 1: are fuck ups that get in way over their head,
• 26:30
Speaker 1: I thought Donald and I would be really funny at
• 26:32
Speaker 1: But but it's funny that you wrote a section of
• 26:35
Speaker 1: the book about that, because Donald and I always talked
• 26:36
Speaker 1: about wanting to do something like that.
• 26:38
Speaker 5: Yeah, but like, yeah, go ahead, man, oh, I was
• 26:40
Speaker 5: gonna say. That's how you could tell. I was like,
• 26:42
Speaker 5: I had just finished up the movie book at the
• 26:44
Speaker 5: same time I was doing the Scrubs thing, and I
• 26:46
Speaker 5: had rewatched all of like Buddy Cop movies, and I
• 26:49
Speaker 5: was like, oh, this is like this makes too much sense.
• 26:51
  Speaker 1: She didn't work.
• 26:53
Speaker 2: It does make sense, man, I think Turk and JD
• 26:55
Speaker 2: would and and it really comes through Zach on the episode,
• 27:00
Speaker 2: first episode that you directed, where we're doing the whole
• 27:03
Speaker 2: heathogram thing. It really comes through there, like that's a
• 27:06
Speaker 2: buddy cop movie or a buddy comedy in itself, right there,
• 27:10
Speaker 2: these two dudes going to adventure and it's a silly
• 27:14
Speaker 2: one too, so his boy can get some ass, you
• 27:16
Speaker 2: know what I mean.
• 27:17
Speaker 1: With a letter from Elia. Actually, Shay, you wrote that
• 27:20
Speaker 1: in the in the book a little bit too, because
• 27:21
Speaker 1: you're talking about Molly Shannon's character in that episode. And
• 27:24
Speaker 1: that's one of my favorite episodes ever. I Uh, we
• 27:27
Speaker 1: bring it up a lot because it was a pivotal
• 27:28
Speaker 1: moment for me because it was the first one I
• 27:30
Speaker 1: got to direct, and it was it was epic and
• 27:33
Speaker 1: Donald and I went on a quest that all took
• 27:35
Speaker 1: place over in one night. You know it for budget,
• 27:37
Speaker 1: most of the time, we would you know, be confined
• 27:39
Speaker 1: to the hospital with with going out a little bit
• 27:41
Speaker 1: here or there. But you know, it's very expensive to
• 27:44
Speaker 1: bring a full film crew out into the real world.
• 27:46
Speaker 1: And and sometimes what Bill would do is he'd sort
• 27:48
Speaker 1: of save up so we'd have episodes that were mostly
• 27:51
Speaker 1: contained to the world of the hospital and then he'd
• 27:54
Speaker 1: use the budget money he'd saved. Then we'd do like
• 27:56
Speaker 1: a big ass one. That's why they'd be like the
• 27:58
Speaker 1: Wision of Oz or the medieval times or this one
• 28:01
Speaker 1: with Heather where we were, you know, out all night long. Yeah,
• 28:05
Speaker 1: I wanted to ask you, Shay, how I wanted to say,
• 28:08
Speaker 1: just before we get into the episode. I really am
• 28:11
Speaker 1: impressed by how hard you hustle and work. And you know,
• 28:15
Speaker 1: we're both on Twitter. We're all on Twitter, and I
• 28:17
Speaker 1: always see a lot of writers asking you for advice
• 28:19
Speaker 1: and how do I do it. I'm just so impressed
• 28:22
Speaker 1: with how hard you work. You write your ass off.
• 28:27
Speaker 1: You then go off and you really talk to your
• 28:31
Speaker 1: followers and say, hey, support the cause. I'm here working
• 28:34
Speaker 1: my ass off and I made a thing I think
• 28:37
  Speaker 1: you're gonna like. And I don't know, I just I've
• 28:39
Speaker 1: always been impressed by how hard you work. And I
• 28:41
Speaker 1: wonder if you, if you wanted to, could speak to
• 28:43
Speaker 1: that for I don't know for anyone. It could be
• 28:45
Speaker 1: about anyone trying to go after their dream, but you
• 28:48
Speaker 1: you particularly do it with your writing.
• 28:50
Speaker 5: Yeah, well, I think that's that's probably like an extension
• 28:53
Speaker 5: of several different things. We grew up, like we live
• 28:56
Speaker 5: in San Antonio now that I grew up like on
• 28:57
Speaker 5: the other side of town, we were like real poor.
• 29:02
Speaker 5: Nobody was like finishing school or anything like that. So
• 29:04
Speaker 5: like that's always in the back of my head, like
• 29:06
Speaker 5: if shit goes wrong or if I make like a
• 29:08
Speaker 5: few mistakes, we could fall all the way back there.
• 29:11
Speaker 5: So that's that's part of it. But also like in
• 29:14
Speaker 5: the in the case of the the Scrubs thing, like
• 29:18
Speaker 5: this was a thing that I was publishing independently. That is,
• 29:21
Speaker 5: you weren't going to find it in bookstores. The only
• 29:23
Speaker 5: way anybody was going to find out about it was
• 29:25
Speaker 5: directly through me at the at the start of it,
• 29:27
Speaker 5: you know. So like I'm not gonna just sit there
• 29:30
Speaker 5: and cross my fingers and hope somebody like bats their
• 29:32
Speaker 5: way into it. Yeah, it's not you know, I'm trying
• 29:34
Speaker 5: to be like the guys at the at the fucking
• 29:36
Speaker 5: mall that comes spraying you with perfume, you know what
• 29:40
Speaker 5: I'm saying, Like I'm gonna be that. I'm gonna be
• 29:43
Speaker 5: that kind of salesperson.
• 29:44
Speaker 1: Or the guys in New York with the rap album
• 29:46
Speaker 1: they always trying to get you to buy there.
• 29:48
Speaker 2: There strong dude. That's the strongest hustle level, because there's
• 29:50
Speaker 2: a part of that hustle is also like strong arming
• 29:54
  Speaker 2: you too.
• 29:54
Speaker 5: Yeah, I know, I always do it.
• 29:56
Speaker 1: I always do it because I feel so bad. By
• 29:57
Speaker 1: the time you've walked two blocks with them, you're like, dude,
• 29:59
  Speaker 1: I'm okay, okay.
• 30:01
Speaker 5: You there, slick. They're say they're smart. They're like, hey,
• 30:04
Speaker 5: hold this for me real quick. And then you hold
• 30:05
Speaker 5: it and they're like, all right, that's seven dollars. Like
• 30:07
  Speaker 5: what the fuck?
• 30:09
  Speaker 2: Even I wasn't. I wasn't even I wasn't even trying
• 30:14
Speaker 2: to buy it, dude, I was.
• 30:15
Speaker 1: But they're the best salesman, those guys, because by the
• 30:17
Speaker 1: time you've walked a block of them, you're like, yeah, ye,
• 30:19
Speaker 1: I do need to hear this. You're right, that does
• 30:20
  Speaker 1: sound good.
• 30:23
Speaker 2: Sometimes sometimes it's like, dog, okay, just give me that ship.
• 30:28
Speaker 1: But then they're like, Donald, come on, Donald, keep it real. Donald.
• 30:31
  Speaker 1: I seen.
• 30:31
Speaker 2: This is what I hate because I get a lot
• 30:33
Speaker 2: of this. I've seen you in the movies. Dog, don't
• 30:35
Speaker 2: let me. Don't fucking let me down. Now I didn't
• 30:40
Speaker 2: let you down. Don't let me down.
• 30:42
Speaker 1: All right, Well, I always think, you know, in my career,
• 30:47
Speaker 1: the things I've done that you know, you have to
• 30:50
Speaker 1: put yourself out there. You have to really you know,
• 30:52
Speaker 1: I've write my own stuff. You get turned down a
• 30:56
Speaker 1: hundred times, and you just got to keep going and
• 30:58
Speaker 1: keep fighting for it and keep believing yourself. And I
• 31:00
Speaker 1: think that's one of the reasons I really like what
• 31:02
Speaker 1: you say and do on on Twitter, because you do
• 31:04
Speaker 1: a lot of philanthropic things as well, but you're also
• 31:06
Speaker 1: someone who's just like, I'm gonna do this on my own.
• 31:08
Speaker 1: Sometimes sometimes a publisher will publish it. Sometimes I'll publish it,
• 31:12
Speaker 1: but like I'm always going to be doing my own hustle,
• 31:14
Speaker 1: which I really appreciate.
• 31:15
Speaker 5: Yeah, thank you, Thank you very much.
• 31:17
Speaker 1: So guys, we're getting the episode. But go buy Shay's book.
• 31:21
Speaker 1: It's called go to the website Sacred Heart Gang dot com. Correct,
• 31:27
Speaker 1: if you go to sacred If you go to Sacred
• 31:29
Speaker 1: Heart gang dot com, you can buy the book. It's
• 31:32
Speaker 1: a PDF you can download. It's twenty bucks. It's really
• 31:35
Speaker 1: worth it. It's amazing. I've seen some people on online
• 31:38
Speaker 1: or are printing it out and kind of making their
• 31:39
Speaker 1: own their own book. Out of it, but support independent writers.
• 31:44
Speaker 1: He self published this with amazing illustrations by Arturo Torres,
• 31:49
  Speaker 1: and I can't I really recommend it if you're a
• 31:52
Speaker 1: Scrubs fan. It's it's very, very entertaining and even the
• 31:56
  Speaker 1: parts Donald skimmed.
• 31:58
Speaker 2: Can we talk about the illustrations real quick illustration. They
• 32:01
Speaker 2: they kind of look like the New York Times. I'm
• 32:03
Speaker 2: not the New York Times the Wall Street Journal. When
• 32:06
Speaker 2: they draw the pictures like they look like when somebody
• 32:10
Speaker 2: sits in front of you and poses and stuff like that,
• 32:12
Speaker 2: they're very they're very lifelike, almost.
• 32:14
Speaker 1: Like like a portrait.
• 32:16
Speaker 2: Yeah, kind of kind of like a portrait. Yeah, absolutely, yes,
• 32:19
Speaker 2: especially the one with Brendan Fraser on the for the
• 32:22
Speaker 2: title of the book. You know what I mean with
• 32:24
Speaker 2: the inside, when you get to that moment and you
• 32:27
Speaker 2: even say at that moment, I didn't want to talk
• 32:28
Speaker 2: about the you know, I hate talking about this, and
• 32:31
Speaker 2: Zach you before we get into the store, I wanted
• 32:33
Speaker 2: to say this. Also it made also me watching the
• 32:37
Speaker 2: episode again, it made it more impactful for me because one,
• 32:41
Speaker 2: I knew how it was going to work out the
• 32:43
Speaker 2: way you laid it out in the book. I knew
• 32:47
Speaker 2: how it was going to end up, not only because
• 32:49
Speaker 2: I was in it, but because of that. But but
• 32:54
Speaker 2: but it made it more impactful because what the way
• 32:57
Speaker 2: you described all of what was happening, Uh, you really
• 33:02
Speaker 2: told the story. Well my point, you know, well.
• 33:04
  Speaker 1: That's good writing when you're like when he's he's he's
• 33:07
Speaker 1: writing his thoughts on something we were a part of.
• 33:10
Speaker 1: And I never had this experience before. I mean, I
• 33:13
Speaker 1: guess occasionally when someone writes a good review of something
• 33:16
Speaker 1: you've done, maybe it's similar. But you're writing his thoughts
• 33:19
Speaker 1: on this moment, and it made the moment for me
• 33:22
Speaker 1: as a part of it more impactful. I thought that
• 33:24
  Speaker 1: was really good.
• 33:25
Speaker 2: And then even where and then even where it stems from,
• 33:27
Speaker 2: how you bring it back to the episode where we
• 33:30
Speaker 2: lose you know, where one in three patients die when
• 33:33
Speaker 2: they go into the hospital and everything like that, how
• 33:35
Speaker 2: you connect the This is how Scrubs fucks you up.
• 33:38
Speaker 2: They fuck you up by making you think you know
• 33:41
Speaker 2: everything's all right, everything's all right, everything's all right, and
• 33:43
Speaker 2: then just when you're feel like you're out of the
• 33:46
Speaker 2: woods and you're safe, they drop the fucking hammer on you.
• 33:48
Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
• 33:49
Speaker 1: And by the way, this is how good Shaye's writing is.
• 33:52
Speaker 1: He preempted Brendan Fraser being on this podcast. So I
• 33:57
Speaker 1: want you to know, Shay that we and I'm telling
• 34:00
Speaker 1: bouncing to the fans right here and now, that the
• 34:02
Speaker 1: next episode will have Brendan Fraser on this podcast.
• 34:05
  Speaker 5: That's perfect. That's perfect.
• 34:07
Speaker 1: So we want Shay's gonna come on and we're gonna
• 34:09
Speaker 1: talk through Brennan Fraser's first episode. Then the next episode
• 34:13
Speaker 1: we're gonna have Brennan Fraser come on and uh and
• 34:16
Speaker 1: talk about it and then uh, well eventually I guess
• 34:19
Speaker 1: it's season three, we'll get to uh, the big one.
• 34:22
Speaker 1: That's a lot of people's favorite episode of all time.
• 34:25
Speaker 1: This also when Brendan spoiler alert dies.
• 34:29
Speaker 2: This also is kind of a it's precursor the right
• 34:33
Speaker 2: word to that episode. Like this whole episode pretty much
• 34:37
Speaker 2: is a dream, dude.
• 34:38
Speaker 1: That I didn't even remember that by the way, you know.
• 34:40
Speaker 2: What I mean foreshadowing, Yeah, a lot of foreshadowing, right
• 34:44
  Speaker 2: I I I didn't remember that either. And I've truly
• 34:48
Speaker 2: went on this journey with JD through this whole episode
• 34:52
Speaker 2: of him trying to, you know, rationalize why this oh
• 34:56
Speaker 2: this is a false positive test. This test isn't it's
• 34:59
Speaker 2: not to code. They're fucking up all day.
• 35:01
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 35:02
Speaker 2: I even made a note, and I even made a note, Wow,
• 35:04
Speaker 2: Sacred Heart is making a lot of mistakes. Yeah.
• 35:07
Speaker 1: Yeah. And also, by the way, first of all, I
• 35:10
Speaker 1: was so fucking uncomfortable with Judy hitting on me, and
• 35:12
Speaker 1: I didn't remember that at all, but because Donald's my
• 35:16
Speaker 1: best friend in the world, I was nervous that his
• 35:18
Speaker 1: TV wife was hitting me. I was like, my stomach
• 35:22
Speaker 1: was getting uncomfortable. And then I noticed a very subtle thing.
• 35:25
Speaker 1: I don't know if you guys noticed this, because I'm
• 35:27
Speaker 1: just very aware of the cinematography. I don't know if
• 35:29
Speaker 1: it was Larry Trilling who directed by We mentioned that
• 35:31
Speaker 1: Bill Laurance wrote this one and Larry Trilling, one of
• 35:34
Speaker 1: our favorite directors, directed it. And there was this weird
• 35:38
Speaker 1: sort of a very subtle filter on the camera for
• 35:41
Speaker 1: that fantasy, that long dream sequence, and I didn't remember
• 35:45
Speaker 1: that it was a dream sequence. I remember, like Jesus,
• 35:47
Speaker 1: why is this. It's usually a filter you would reserve
• 35:50
Speaker 1: for a close up of a woman of a certain
• 35:53
Speaker 1: age where you wanted to maybe soften her wrinkles, a
• 35:55
Speaker 1: little bit or her eyes. But if you go back
• 35:57
Speaker 1: and look, it's on that whole sequence. And I was
• 36:00
Speaker 1: kind of like, why is why is this filter on?
• 36:02
Speaker 1: Like what? And then I was like does this just
• 36:04
Speaker 1: look weird on my computer? Like what's going on? And
• 36:06
Speaker 1: then when it was revealed that the whole thing is
• 36:08
Speaker 1: a is a fantasy, I was like, Oh, that was
• 36:11
Speaker 1: like a little subtle thing.
• 36:12
  Speaker 5: You know.
• 36:12
Speaker 1: There's lots of little subtle things either, but that's one
• 36:14
Speaker 1: thing I noticed with the cinematography.
• 36:16
Speaker 2: It makes you want to go back and watch it again.
• 36:20
  Speaker 5: It's a good show.
• 36:21
Speaker 1: Show Thank you, thank you.
• 36:23
  Speaker 5: Well.
• 36:23
Speaker 1: I'm telling you when you get chased, when you guys
• 36:25
Speaker 1: get Shay's book, you're gonna want to when you read
• 36:28
Speaker 1: his essays, then you want to go back and go, Okay,
• 36:30
Speaker 1: now I got to rewatch that episode with this with
• 36:33
Speaker 1: this essay in mine. All right, we're gonna go to
• 36:35
Speaker 1: break and we'll be right back.
• 36:44
Speaker 2: And back. We're back.
• 36:46
Speaker 1: All right, we're gonna go into this episode.
• 36:48
Speaker 2: Guys, all right, I got one thing to say when
• 36:50
Speaker 2: we start off, What the fuck? How do why do
• 36:52
Speaker 2: we have like a cheese plate with a meat cheese
• 36:55
Speaker 2: meat plate the size of like when you go to
• 36:58
  Speaker 2: a party, you know what I mean, Like, it's it's
• 37:02
Speaker 2: our cheese and and and we and we got like
• 37:05
Speaker 2: the rous version of cheese and meat. Like it's only cheddar.
• 37:10
Speaker 2: It's only cheddar and American and white white cheddar, yellow
• 37:15
Speaker 2: cheddar and American cheese.
• 37:16
Speaker 1: And then it's the worst cheese, proast, beef turkey. It's
• 37:22
Speaker 1: cold cuts, rolled up what kind of that?
• 37:27
Speaker 2: And we're drinking wine with that, And this is our
• 37:30
Speaker 2: and this is our night out from the hospital.
• 37:32
Speaker 1: It's our big fancy night. And Judy and Carla says
• 37:36
Speaker 1: she got a nice bottle of wine. And then Donald's right,
• 37:38
Speaker 1: if you freeze frame at five seconds on the plate
• 37:41
Speaker 1: we're talking about, it's basically cubes of cheddar and rolled
• 37:44
Speaker 1: up cold cuts. Well, maybe maybe the rationalization was that
• 37:51
Speaker 1: we didn't know we were just we were like, we
• 37:53
Speaker 1: were so busy being doctors. None of us are cooks,
• 37:54
Speaker 1: and we're like, oh, we're gonna have like an adult night.
• 37:56
Speaker 1: That's what we do. They have.
• 37:58
Speaker 5: So this is a good example of like one of
• 38:00
Speaker 5: the one of the reasons I like to rewatch the
• 38:02
Speaker 5: show so much, because every time you rewatch it, you're
• 38:04
Speaker 5: gonna find like another little neat thing in there. So
• 38:07
Speaker 5: I noticed that she's saying same same as y'all did
• 38:09
Speaker 5: when I rewatched it yesterday, and I was like, the
• 38:12
Speaker 5: only person in this room who is upset about the
• 38:15
Speaker 5: situation or the setup is Carla, which makes sense because
• 38:20
Speaker 5: she for that whole first season, second season, she's like
• 38:23
Speaker 5: the adult in the room. Yeah, and the other and
• 38:25
Speaker 5: and the other three are just sort of pretending to
• 38:27
Speaker 5: be adults, so they think like, this is what is
• 38:30
Speaker 5: supposed to look like.
• 38:30
Speaker 1: And probably Shaye, probably Turk and and UH and JD
• 38:36
Speaker 1: were probably tasked with getting a nice cheese place. We
• 38:41
Speaker 1: went to fucking the supermarket. We're like got one of
• 38:43
Speaker 1: those round jobs. Meanwhile, she went to the liquor store
• 38:48
  Speaker 1: and bottle expensive.
• 38:50
Speaker 2: Right, and then we still fucked it up for how about?
• 38:53
Speaker 1: I mean, I feel bad talking like JD knowing so
• 38:57
Speaker 1: much about what celebrities are are naked and what move movies,
• 39:00
Speaker 1: But it was pretty funny when he's like frontal and touchus.
• 39:06
Speaker 2: They have something like that on the playboard. I mean,
• 39:09
  Speaker 2: never mind, this.
• 39:12
Speaker 1: Is obviously before a website has existed, so it does
• 39:14
Speaker 1: come up in the episode, But I don't think we
• 39:16
  Speaker 1: should actively advertise.
• 39:18
Speaker 2: Them unless you want to hear it. Let us know.
• 39:20
Speaker 1: Okay, hit up Donald on his Instagram on hit.
• 39:24
Speaker 2: Me up on my Instagram, but you gotta find only
• 39:28
Speaker 2: I will only respond if you follow.
• 39:30
Speaker 1: But make sure you follow him because he's very upset
• 39:32
Speaker 1: about his follower count. But uh, if you really, if
• 39:35
Speaker 1: you don't want to take the time to google it,
• 39:36
Speaker 1: just ask Donald on Instagram.
• 39:38
Speaker 2: Share you want some of this, man, We could we
• 39:39
Speaker 2: can hijack we can hijack some of Zach's followers, man,
• 39:42
Speaker 2: and get them on.
• 39:43
Speaker 1: On my followers. He's blowing up.
• 39:46
Speaker 2: What did Shay share some of yours with me? Brother?
• 39:48
Speaker 1: Yeah? All right, one day one twelve, I was kind
• 39:53
Speaker 1: of taken, and I think this comes up in your essay.
• 39:55
Speaker 1: Say if I'm not mistaken. But we finally see Cox
• 39:58
  Speaker 1: like someone.
• 40:00
  Speaker 2: Yeah right.
• 40:00
Speaker 1: It seems that he seems to never like anybody or
• 40:04
Speaker 1: at least be snarky with anyone and everyone. This is
• 40:07
Speaker 1: this is sort of the first time that he's really uh,
• 40:11
Speaker 1: we see how much he genuinely is no bullshit has
• 40:13
  Speaker 1: a friend.
• 40:15
Speaker 5: Yeah, that's really It's really like an interesting creation of
• 40:17
Speaker 5: a character is to put somebody in in his Orbit
• 40:21
Speaker 5: who just sort of takes away all of his like
• 40:24
Speaker 5: protective armor immediately, like he has another friend. Later on
• 40:27
Speaker 5: the show, Michael Boltman's character Ron when he shows up
• 40:31
Speaker 5: and they're like clearly close friends, but but at the
• 40:33
Speaker 5: same time they're like poking each other in the eye
• 40:35
Speaker 5: every once in a while with something. But Brendan Fraser's
• 40:37
Speaker 5: character Ben is the only time we see him where
• 40:39
Speaker 5: he is just wide open and like just having a
• 40:42
Speaker 5: good old time and he loves Yeah.
• 40:44
Speaker 1: It really mirrors the JAD And it's like his Turk
• 40:48
Speaker 1: in a way, just solely in the fact that like
• 40:52
  Speaker 1: they're on you know, they're hugging, and they're and they're
• 40:54
Speaker 1: joking about hugging and and they're just very they're being
• 40:59
Speaker 1: playing silly games, the thing with the card on their head,
• 41:01
Speaker 1: and they're just like they're unabashedly themselves.
• 41:04
Speaker 5: Yeah, all of the things that doctor Cox says annoys
• 41:07
Speaker 5: him about JD. Yeah, the things that Brent like he
• 41:10
Speaker 5: talks in the voices, he's very affectionate, and I'm saying
• 41:13
Speaker 5: like like, oh, this is like you begin to understand,
• 41:16
Speaker 5: this is like why he has such a fondness for
• 41:19
Speaker 5: JD is because he reminds him of this camera.
• 41:21
Speaker 1: That's great, Shay. I really love that analysis. And I
• 41:24
Speaker 1: didn't see it, but it's funny. I was watching Brendan
• 41:27
Speaker 1: Fraser's choice in this character for the first time in
• 41:30
Speaker 1: twenty years, and he is playing it very goofy and silly,
• 41:33
Speaker 1: and it's very JD like. And it's funny that you
• 41:36
Speaker 1: say that that I never thought of it like that.
• 41:39
Speaker 1: It's like you're seeing even though Cox has to keep
• 41:42
Speaker 1: it down because he has to be Cox to JD,
• 41:46
Speaker 1: there is the there must be some aspect of JD
• 41:50
Speaker 1: that reminds him of his good buddy.
• 41:51
Speaker 5: You know, there's no question about it, There's no question.
• 41:55
Speaker 1: I like when I go at the bar one twenty three,
• 41:57
Speaker 1: when I go neat Hug. Yeah, what a fucking tool,
• 42:03
  Speaker 1: Neat Hug.
• 42:05
Speaker 2: This is something that kind of bugged me the whole
• 42:09
Speaker 2: time we made this show, but later on hindsight, being
• 42:12
Speaker 2: twenty twenty nowadays, it's I wish, I'm so happy that
• 42:17
Speaker 2: this happened. But Brendan Fraser brings a camera into the
• 42:20
Speaker 2: episode and it's a polaroid camera, old school polaroid, old
• 42:25
Speaker 2: school polaroid camera, and I'm not sure if we were
• 42:29
Speaker 2: doing this before or if this is where it started,
• 42:33
Speaker 2: but because of this moment right here, it's like I
• 42:36
Speaker 2: have polaroids from you know what I mean.
• 42:39
  Speaker 1: I can't answer this.
• 42:40
  Speaker 2: Okay, let's let's let's get into it, because I I
• 42:45
Speaker 2: was wondering, we have all of these memories on celluloid
• 42:49
Speaker 2: because because of someone bringing a camera and then it
• 42:53
  Speaker 2: became an.
• 42:54
Speaker 1: All began with this.
• 42:55
Speaker 2: Is this where it began?
• 42:56
Speaker 1: Yeah, So here's the thing. Krista Miller and I are
• 42:58
Speaker 1: both photographers our hobby, and we both are camera geeks.
• 43:02
Speaker 1: We love new cameras, we love old cameras, will like
• 43:04
Speaker 1: send each other eBay listings of cameras. She's a really
• 43:08
Speaker 1: talented photographer and I like to think I'm not too
• 43:10
Speaker 1: bad myself. When Brendan Fraser came in, this was his
• 43:14
Speaker 1: real hobby, shooting with these old school polaroids. As you
• 43:17
Speaker 1: guys see in the movie, the kind of polaroid film
• 43:21
Speaker 1: not that just comes out automatically. You pull it out
• 43:23
Speaker 1: and then you got it's like shake it like a
• 43:24
Speaker 1: poloraroid picture. These you actually did have to wait for
• 43:26
Speaker 1: a minute for them to cook, and then you'd peel
• 43:29
Speaker 1: it off and then'd be a beautiful a shot. And
• 43:31
Speaker 1: this camera that he's shooting with was actually Brendan's and
• 43:35
Speaker 1: he brought it in and of course, and he was
• 43:38
Speaker 1: taking pictures. All the pictures you see at the end
• 43:40
Speaker 1: of the episode in that tin that he has, we're
• 43:43
Speaker 1: all shot by him over the course of his week
• 43:46
Speaker 1: hanging out with us. And then Christa and I got,
• 43:49
Speaker 1: of course, got so into it. We're like, oh my god,
• 43:51
Speaker 1: we got to get one of those. Where do we
• 43:52
Speaker 1: buy them? And then over the years, Donald that you
• 43:56
Speaker 1: have a lot of polaroid pictures because I have a
• 43:58
Speaker 1: bunch of these cameras now right, And I'm sure I'm
• 44:01
Speaker 1: sure Chris has given you some too, because she does too,
• 44:04
Speaker 1: but the bulk of the ones you have, I'm sure.
• 44:06
Speaker 1: I got super into it, and I was going on
• 44:08
Speaker 1: eBay and buying all these old cameras. That's why. That's
• 44:10
Speaker 1: that's it all started with this.
• 44:12
Speaker 2: Okay, So all right, that's what I was, That's what
• 44:14
Speaker 2: I was running because it got ridiculous too at some point.
• 44:16
Speaker 2: At some point, it was like a battle between everybody
• 44:20
Speaker 2: who took pictures on the fucking show to bring in
• 44:22
Speaker 2: their new toy. You know what, I mean, whether it
• 44:25
Speaker 2: was a lika or a cannon, or a fucking or
• 44:28
Speaker 2: a point this is the This is the Rolls Royce
• 44:31
Speaker 2: of point and shoot, or this is the.
• 44:35
Speaker 1: How do you think I feel when you're talking about
• 44:37
Speaker 1: your new animation gadget? But listen, I it.
• 44:40
  Speaker 2: Wasn't I don't go to you, dude, Man, I just
• 44:43
  Speaker 2: fucking got a c stand. Man, I'm really excited. I
• 44:46
Speaker 2: don't hit you up and do that ship.
• 44:48
Speaker 1: No, But on your Instagram you post shit like I'm doing.
• 44:50
Speaker 1: All this is on the ones and I just got
• 44:52
Speaker 1: this new gadget called l R two five nine. You
• 44:57
Speaker 1: think I give a funk how you're animating? Just showed
• 45:02
Speaker 1: me to show me to finish product.
• 45:07
  Speaker 2: Now.
• 45:07
Speaker 1: But He's right. In addition to Christ and I, there's
• 45:09
Speaker 1: also a huge camera department and and uh and with
• 45:12
Speaker 1: also you know, everyone in the camera department loves cameras.
• 45:15
Speaker 1: So yeah, there was a lot of camera talk on
• 45:16
Speaker 1: the side. I'm sorry we annoyed you with that.
• 45:19
Speaker 2: It wasn't annoying. I look back at it now and
• 45:21
Speaker 2: I'm so grateful for it because I have all of
• 45:23
  Speaker 2: these memories captured.
• 45:24
Speaker 1: Yes, now I want to know why JD. Who's we've
• 45:27
Speaker 1: established as a very good doctor, all beit young is
• 45:29
Speaker 1: passing out at a nail in someone's hand. I mean,
• 45:32
Speaker 1: hasn't he seen far with things?
• 45:34
Speaker 2: That ship is gross s though, no matter how you
• 45:36
Speaker 2: look at it, man, really how you for some reason he's.
• 45:40
Speaker 1: He's fucking cleaned out people's rectums.
• 45:43
Speaker 2: Yeah, but when the ship's still in you, that's scary, man,
• 45:45
Speaker 2: because it has to come out. And when it comes
• 45:48
Speaker 2: Look you see in the movies, all right, you ready, one, two, three,
• 45:52
Speaker 2: and then they pull it and the person it's like
• 45:58
Speaker 2: that was the first thing I thought about, Like they
• 46:00
Speaker 2: got to take that shit out.
• 46:01
Speaker 1: It didn't cross your It didn't cross your mind. Well
• 46:03
Speaker 1: as I understand it. Being a fake doctor, you don't
• 46:06
Speaker 1: want to pull it out before you get to the er,
• 46:08
Speaker 1: because then that's what that thing is, stopping the blood
• 46:10
  Speaker 1: from coming out.
• 46:11
Speaker 2: In some cases, yes, in some cases.
• 46:14
Speaker 1: By the way, I'm gonna take this as medical. Please google,
• 46:17
Speaker 1: Please google the right thing to do.
• 46:18
Speaker 2: Listen, because in some movies when dude gets shot with
• 46:21
Speaker 2: the bow and arrow or something like that, or or
• 46:24
Speaker 2: or or get stabbed with a knife. Yeah, and they
• 46:26
Speaker 2: got to make the escape there, you know, it's the
• 46:29
Speaker 2: eye cont it's the close eye contact and everything. They're
• 46:32
Speaker 2: looking face to face and they're like, all right, you ready,
• 46:36
Speaker 2: I'm ready on three, one, two, you shut on three.
• 46:46
Speaker 1: That's true. Well, anyway, I thought it was surprising that
• 46:50
Speaker 1: there's the episode begins with j D passing out at
• 46:53
Speaker 1: a nail in someone's hand, like he literally faints. He
• 46:56
Speaker 1: literally faints like a like a person in old movies
• 46:59
Speaker 1: faints right, like be still, yeah, like like yeah, back
• 47:04
  Speaker 1: of hand.
• 47:05
  Speaker 2: The vapis.
• 47:09
Speaker 1: Now there's a real thing in hospitals, you know, mix
• 47:11
Speaker 1: ups are are I mean, they've they've taken all these
• 47:13
Speaker 1: steps in the intervening years between this show and twenty
• 47:17
Speaker 1: twenty to make sure that fuck ups are very, very
• 47:22
Speaker 1: very rare. I just started watching this show on Netflix's
• 47:26
Speaker 1: a documentary show if you're into real doctor situations called
• 47:29
Speaker 1: Lenox Hill, where they're following around real doctors, and I
• 47:31
Speaker 1: just noticed that they go in to do brain surgery
• 47:33
Speaker 1: on someone and there's those whole process where they're like,
• 47:36
Speaker 1: they're like, we'll be doing this on the right side
• 47:39
Speaker 1: of the brain. Does anyone hear right? Raise your hand
• 47:40
Speaker 1: if you heard right, And there's this whole system in
• 47:42
Speaker 1: place now where the nurses are like, I heard right,
• 47:45
Speaker 1: I heard right, I heard right, and they're like sign
• 47:47
Speaker 1: he signs his name on the woman's skull before the surgery.
• 47:50
Speaker 1: Like my point is everyone in the medical community who
• 47:54
Speaker 1: listens to the show is laughing at me because I'm
• 47:55
Speaker 1: explaining it so horribly. But it made me think of
• 47:58
Speaker 1: that because there's so many systems in place now to
• 48:00
Speaker 1: make sure fuck ups happen less because it is a
• 48:02
  Speaker 1: thing in hospitals.
• 48:04
Speaker 2: But it's also really funny how they figure out the
• 48:06
Speaker 2: mess up was happening, you know what I mean, Wait
• 48:08
Speaker 2: a second, I imagine that this guy is Jewish, Yeah,
• 48:12
Speaker 2: of course he is. Then why isn't his penis circumcised?
• 48:15
Speaker 2: And then Todd runs in, Hey, doctor Wynn wants to
• 48:19
Speaker 2: know if there's some sort of mix up because our
• 48:21
Speaker 2: appendix surgery doesn't have an appendix. And then he walks
• 48:25
Speaker 2: into the room and he's like, can you believe what
• 48:27
Speaker 2: the whoa it's going on here? That shit made me
• 48:32
  Speaker 2: laugh so.
• 48:34
Speaker 1: By the way, I laughed so hard, But I did
• 48:37
Speaker 1: it understand something? I mean, I laughed so hard that
• 48:39
Speaker 1: But isn't it just an uncircumcised phoenis? Why is Todd.
• 48:43
Speaker 1: Why is Todd so freaked out by uncircumcised?
• 48:45
Speaker 2: He's he's not freaked out by it. But what it
• 48:48
Speaker 2: is is, it's it's you know, the person's covered in
• 48:51
Speaker 2: a complete uh cheat, right, and it's covering their whole
• 48:55
Speaker 2: body and the only thing sticking out and there's a
• 48:56
Speaker 2: big light shining on it. Obviously is this dude's I
• 49:00
Speaker 2: can't and his balls and his balls? Yeah.
• 49:04
Speaker 1: But by the way, Donald, if you if you fans
• 49:06
Speaker 1: are listening, go back. You can see when when Rob
• 49:08
Speaker 1: comes in and says, WHOA, what is going on here?
• 49:11
Speaker 1: You can see Donald under his mask start to laugh
• 49:15
Speaker 1: and like, Donald, I can see you biting your fucking cheek.
• 49:22
Speaker 1: That ship was hilarious.
• 49:23
Speaker 2: He's fucking dude. Man. I forgot how I say this
• 49:27
Speaker 2: over and over again, Robert Macio, Holy shit, I forgot
• 49:32
Speaker 2: how funny he is. Man. And we used to we
• 49:36
Speaker 2: used to fucking fuck with him all the time and oh,
• 49:38
Speaker 2: let's go run line and everything. But he fucking crushes
• 49:41
Speaker 2: it every time. Every time.
• 49:44
Speaker 1: Dude, that's the funniest line on the show. WHOA, what
• 49:47
Speaker 1: is going on? Here?
• 49:48
Speaker 2: Is going on here?
• 49:49
Speaker 1: Even in my brain I was thinking, like, well, why
• 49:51
Speaker 1: is he so surprised to see PTUs? But Donald?
• 49:55
  Speaker 2: Oh Man.
• 49:55
Speaker 1: Then I looked at Donald and I know that look
• 49:57
Speaker 1: better than anyone. That You're lucky that he's like he's
• 50:02
Speaker 1: like his face is like strutched up like this.
• 50:09
Speaker 2: Nicole Sullivan's back, Krista Miller's back on this episode.
• 50:13
  Speaker 1: Yeah, Christ's back.
• 50:15
Speaker 2: Yeah, then Nicole Sullivan's story you know, uh, Shay, you
• 50:20
Speaker 2: can speak on this also. This was one of those
• 50:22
Speaker 2: things where you throw her in there just so you can,
• 50:26
Speaker 2: just so the audience remembers. Okay, there's this character, and
• 50:30
Speaker 2: we have plans for her later on and to make
• 50:33
Speaker 2: this connection, to make to make what happens to her,
• 50:36
Speaker 2: to make you feel it more. We're gonna introduce her
• 50:39
Speaker 2: on some silly shit just so you're comfortable, like, oh,
• 50:42
Speaker 2: this is just somebody who comes into the space, into
• 50:44
Speaker 2: the universe for Elliott to make funny jokes with, and
• 50:48
Speaker 2: you kind of don't realize. Okay, at the end of this,
• 50:51
Speaker 2: something's bad's gonna happen, even though we're laying out the crumbs,
• 50:54
Speaker 2: you know what I mean, something's you know.
• 50:56
Speaker 1: Yeah, she talks about that in his book actually with
• 50:59
Speaker 1: with the Brendan ar of it all about how Bill
• 51:01
Speaker 1: wasn't was totally not afraid to play the long game
• 51:04
Speaker 1: with these people, right say, like like they laid the
• 51:07
Speaker 1: foundation from Brennan and then that episode is now until
• 51:09
  Speaker 1: two years later.
• 51:11
Speaker 5: You know, So that's the like, the one question I
• 51:13
Speaker 5: wanted to make sure I asked when I came on
• 51:15
Speaker 5: here was when y'all are doing that stuff with with
• 51:18
Speaker 5: with the d Coole Sullivan character or with the renin
• 51:21
Speaker 5: Frage character, do you know ahead of time? Like okay,
• 51:24
Speaker 5: and in fucking three years, this is when we're gonna
• 51:27
Speaker 5: get rid of no of you just sort of.
• 51:29
Speaker 2: Well, we should throw it to Bill. Let's throw that.
• 51:31
Speaker 1: Yeah, well let's let's throw the Brennan one to Bill,
• 51:34
Speaker 1: because that's what I was thinking about doing that as well. Bill,
• 51:37
Speaker 1: When you had Brendan on in season one for these
• 51:40
Speaker 1: two awesome episodes, we have Shae Soronald here, and of
• 51:43
Speaker 1: course Bill knows who you are, Shay, because he wanted
• 51:45
Speaker 1: to I see him hitting you up on Twitter as well. Bill,
• 51:50
Speaker 1: was was it your intention that you would kind of
• 51:52
Speaker 1: play the long game and then bring Brennan back in
• 51:55
Speaker 1: season three for the episode Everybody Loves at the funeral
• 51:59
Speaker 1: was that on your are this far out and because
• 52:01
Speaker 1: we're because you know, we're talking about also Nicole Sullivan
• 52:05
Speaker 1: character and how one of the things you did really
• 52:06
Speaker 1: well and Scrubs was not be afraid to play the
• 52:09
Speaker 1: long game with these characters. But first, well, Bill, please
• 52:11
  Speaker 1: don't don't don't, please.
• 52:13
Speaker 2: Don't do the six seven eight.
• 52:15
Speaker 6: Hey, guys, I guess we'll just continue this relationship in
• 52:19
Speaker 6: which you only reach out to me when you need me.
• 52:23
Speaker 6: And I'm supposed to feel good about that.
• 52:27
Speaker 1: No, I do feel good.
• 52:28
Speaker 6: Look, Brendan, he's an old family friend, a good friend
• 52:32
Speaker 6: of Christ's. And when we brought him on, initially we thought, wow,
• 52:37
Speaker 6: that's back when we kind of bring guest stars on,
• 52:39
Speaker 6: get to know him and kill him. But we thought
• 52:41
Speaker 6: it was kind of a good enough thing to give him,
• 52:45
Speaker 6: uh leukemia and you know, kind of see doctor Cox
• 52:50
Speaker 6: rise to the occasion and deal with it. The first
• 52:52
Speaker 6: episode is based on a short story called Occurrence at
• 52:54
Speaker 6: al Creek Bridge by Ambrose Beers. If anybody wanted to
• 52:57
Speaker 6: look that up. Second episode, it's just cool excuse to
• 53:01
Speaker 6: use the worthless peons. Ted's band and all you guys
• 53:05
Speaker 6: and Brennan was so good when he agreed to come back. Uh,
• 53:09
Speaker 6: it was perfect because we were able to do you
• 53:12
Speaker 6: know that sixth sense homage. So we always knew we
• 53:16
Speaker 6: wanted to kill him, but we hadn't planned. Uh we
• 53:19
Speaker 6: had hoped, but hadn't planned for him to come back,
• 53:21
Speaker 6: and when that happened, it's one of our favorite episodes ever.
• 53:24
Speaker 1: All Right, we were we have a fan that we're
• 53:26
Speaker 1: gonna take new commercial and then we come back.
• 53:30
Speaker 2: Do we ever go to fan and then go to
• 53:31
Speaker 2: commercial after the fan? How come we always got to
• 53:34
Speaker 2: go to commercial before the fan? Is this?
• 53:36
  Speaker 3: Like?
• 53:36
Speaker 2: Is it because and it's a seg it's a segment thing.
• 53:40
  Speaker 2: I got it, it's a segment thing.
• 53:42
Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean there's when Joel we first started making
• 53:44
Speaker 1: the show, Joel had a very organized list of the
• 53:47
Speaker 1: way the show would go, and since all we do
• 53:49
Speaker 1: is ramble all over the fucking place, we just occasionally
• 53:52
Speaker 1: asked her if we should commerce.
• 53:53
  Speaker 2: I know, but it's always like, it's always a tease
• 53:56
Speaker 2: though for the it's always a tease for the people
• 53:58
Speaker 2: listening to the podcast. Oh we've got a listener here,
• 54:01
Speaker 2: let's you know what, we should probably go to fucking commercial.
• 54:04
Speaker 1: But I think that. I think that. You know, on
• 54:06
Speaker 1: real TV shows and radio shows, you want to you
• 54:09
Speaker 1: want the audience to stay on the line, right on,
• 54:11
Speaker 1: right on the fishing line. When we come back, we're
• 54:14
Speaker 1: gonna have an exciting caller.
• 54:16
Speaker 2: But we don't do it that way. We never do
• 54:18
  Speaker 2: it that way.
• 54:18
Speaker 1: We always try it that way. Let's try and sell
• 54:20
Speaker 1: it this way. Do you want to try and sell
• 54:21
Speaker 1: it like pretendant? They might change the channel or switch to.
• 54:24
Speaker 2: The No, no, no, no, no, no, no no no.
• 54:26
Speaker 2: Don't you touch that down. When we come back, we'll
• 54:28
  Speaker 2: have a caller.
• 54:29
Speaker 1: Don't you touch that down. We're back in two and two. Oh, hi, guys,
• 54:42
Speaker 1: what's up? Gentlemen? It's Dylan and who else is Dylan?
• 54:47
Speaker 1: And came there's your official Oprah voice. Guys. That's the
• 54:51
Speaker 1: price you get for making it on the show. You
• 54:53
Speaker 1: get an Oprah voice intro.
• 54:55
Speaker 2: Dylan and Cam. Where are you guys at It looks
• 54:58
Speaker 2: like you're like in a bunker underground.
• 55:00
Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, we have a little bar area in our basement.
• 55:04
Speaker 3: We're kind of hunkered down right here, but we're in
• 55:06
Speaker 3: a lacrosse with gods.
• 55:08
Speaker 2: Okay, Wisconsin in the house.
• 55:10
Speaker 1: Noise, Well, welcome guys to the show. We we we
• 55:13
Speaker 1: have Shae Serrano joining us, who's written an awesome book
• 55:16
Speaker 1: on Scrubs and incredible, uh best selling author, and he
• 55:20
Speaker 1: probably knows more about Scrubs than Donald and I. But
• 55:23
Speaker 1: so definitely you can well that's because Donald smokes a
• 55:26
Speaker 1: lot of weed. But you can ask us any question
• 55:28
Speaker 1: or maybe you're off. Are you off this hour? Though?
• 55:31
Speaker 2: Do you mean did I smoke today?
• 55:32
Speaker 1: No, because there was a couple of podcasts ago you
• 55:34
Speaker 1: said you were taking a break from weed, and I
• 55:36
Speaker 1: wonder if that's stuck.
• 55:38
  Speaker 2: No, that didn't didn't take.
• 55:40
Speaker 1: Didn't take that night.
• 55:43
Speaker 2: That night I went back to the well.
• 55:46
  Speaker 4: Uh.
• 55:46
Speaker 1: He always tries to brag Shay. He's like, yeah, I'm
• 55:49
Speaker 1: off weed. I'm like for how long? He's like an
• 55:50
  Speaker 1: hour starts that?
• 55:53
Speaker 5: How it starts one step at a.
• 55:54
Speaker 2: Time, One step at a time.
• 55:56
Speaker 1: All right, Dylan and Cam, what's up? What's your question? Guys? Welcome?
• 56:00
Speaker 3: Yeah, good to be here. Man, really big fans and
• 56:02
Speaker 3: a really huge fan of too Well.
• 56:07
Speaker 2: Yeah, great, you guys.
• 56:09
Speaker 1: Have do you guys up the printed it out for
• 56:14
Speaker 1: you for you listeners. They held up Shay's book on
• 56:18
Speaker 1: the office. Uh, and they had printed it out and
• 56:20
Speaker 1: binded it. So these guys are real fans.
• 56:22
Speaker 3: Oh I love Yeah, I love she probably my favorite author.
• 56:26
Speaker 1: Yeah that's all right, thank you? Oh wow, nice Shay.
• 56:31
Speaker 1: All right, A question for I guess it's probably gonna
• 56:33
Speaker 1: be for Shaw, But Donald and I are here too.
• 56:37
Speaker 3: So I guess it's you guys going to hop in
• 56:39
Speaker 3: with this too. But for Shay. So you've written obviously,
• 56:42
Speaker 3: Conference five Minutes, for the Office, you've written where do
• 56:46
Speaker 3: you think we are? For Scrubs? Is there another show
• 56:49
Speaker 3: that you've been thinking about or is there maybe one
• 56:51
Speaker 3: that maybe Donald or Dak would really like to kind
• 56:54
Speaker 3: of see from you as well?
• 56:56
Speaker 1: Oh that's good. I like I like my part, But
• 56:57
Speaker 1: you go for a show.
• 56:59
Speaker 5: There hasn't been one that I thought of yet. Usually
• 57:01
Speaker 5: whenever I'm working on one of these, people will like
• 57:03
Speaker 5: start tweeting me, Oh, do the wire do arrested development?
• 57:07
Speaker 5: Do you Sons of Anarchy or Madmen or whatever? But
• 57:11
Speaker 5: most of these things just sort of happen organically, Like
• 57:13
Speaker 5: I've been I've been watching Scrubs for so long. I've
• 57:16
Speaker 5: seen it so many times. It was like, well, you know,
• 57:19
Speaker 5: let me let me do something with all of the
• 57:22
Speaker 5: times I've watched it, and then it becomes like, oh,
• 57:24
Speaker 5: I was actually just working hard all of that time
• 57:26
Speaker 5: instead of just sitting around watching TV. You know what
• 57:28
  Speaker 5: I'm saying.
• 57:28
Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a nice way to spend it. You're like,
• 57:30
  Speaker 1: You're like, I wasn't wasting those hours. I was writing
• 57:33
  Speaker 1: a book.
• 57:34
Speaker 5: Yeah exactly. I mean there's like one hundred and eighty
• 57:36
Speaker 5: something episodes of the show you watch point ninety hours
• 57:39
Speaker 5: of TV that you've seen four or five times all
• 57:42
Speaker 5: the way through. But yeah, usually just if a show
• 57:46
Speaker 5: will grab a hold of me, then I then I'll
• 57:48
  Speaker 5: write about it. But I haven't. I don't have any
• 57:49
Speaker 5: plans right now to do to do another.
• 57:51
Speaker 2: One, all right, I have a nice Which one do
• 57:53
Speaker 2: you want? Which one do you want him to do?
• 57:54
Speaker 1: I was just well, the whole time he was talking,
• 57:56
Speaker 1: I was half listening and half thinking. I think. I think.
• 58:00
Speaker 1: I don't know if you watch the show, Shay Donald,
• 58:02
Speaker 1: I don't think watches it. But I really loved Atlanta. Oh,
• 58:05
Speaker 1: Atlanta's great, and I think it's ripe for analysis because
• 58:09
Speaker 1: it's got so many trippy storylines and so much social commentary,
• 58:13
Speaker 1: and I just I just think it's incredibly done.
• 58:17
  Speaker 5: Yeah, that's a really that's a really good one. But
• 58:19
Speaker 5: they're not done yet. It doesn't till they're done. Yeah,
• 58:22
Speaker 5: you gotta wait till you get Now, The Wire, A.
• 58:23
Speaker 1: Lot of people say The Wire is I have to
• 58:25
Speaker 1: admit I only watched season one, so please don't yell
• 58:28
Speaker 1: at me. But a lot of people think that's the
• 58:30
Speaker 1: greatest TV show of all time? Is that? Is that
• 58:32
Speaker 1: on the top of your list?
• 58:34
Speaker 5: Yeah, that's absolutely on there, The Wire, Breaking Bad Soprano, Like,
• 58:37
Speaker 5: you know, all of the all of the main ones.
• 58:39
Speaker 2: Right, I've never seen any of these shows.
• 58:42
  Speaker 1: You haven't.
• 58:43
Speaker 5: No, you've never seen You've never seen Breaking Bad.
• 58:45
Speaker 1: No, No, you only watched wat We only watched the finale.
• 58:48
Speaker 1: It's the only episode you ever saw.
• 58:50
  Speaker 2: So here's my thing. Here's my thing. I have a
• 58:53
Speaker 2: hard time investing in shows because what happens is either
• 58:56
Speaker 2: they get canceled or they disappoint you in the end. Right,
• 58:59
Speaker 2: that's my that's my issue with things. I hate when
• 59:03
Speaker 2: you know something, there's a cliffhanger at the end of
• 59:05
Speaker 2: the season, and then the show gets canceled and you
• 59:09
Speaker 2: don't get to finish, you know, and then.
• 59:11
  Speaker 1: Surely there's a series. What's a series that you watched
• 59:14
Speaker 1: like that, you just loved all of it?
• 59:16
  Speaker 2: The Clone Wars.
• 59:19
Speaker 1: It's got to be Star Wars. It's only Star Wars. Yeah,
• 59:21
  Speaker 1: I mean.
• 59:22
Speaker 2: That that that well, yeah, you know that was.
• 59:27
Speaker 1: Anything non Star Wars. No.
• 59:30
Speaker 2: No, Like you know, Bill Lawrence used to say it
• 59:34
Speaker 2: all the time, and it's so true. You you tell
• 59:37
Speaker 2: people when you when people meet you and they say,
• 59:40
Speaker 2: I'm such a huge fan of your show, not out
• 59:43
Speaker 2: of the ten times, they've only seen it like a
• 59:45
Speaker 2: handful of times, you know what I mean, and haven't
• 59:47
Speaker 2: seen it more than that, And so I fall in
• 59:53
Speaker 2: that category. If I were to see Brian and Aaron,
• 59:58
Speaker 2: it would be like, I'm such a huge I was
• 1:00:00
Speaker 2: such a huge fan of Breaking Bad. I only saw
• 1:00:02
  Speaker 2: the final episode.
• 1:00:05
Speaker 1: I wouldn't let you admit that.
• 1:00:06
Speaker 2: I already told them it's all over the air now
• 1:00:08
Speaker 2: that somebody's gonna come back to him and say that
• 1:00:10
Speaker 2: shit now, But you know what I mean, Like, like
• 1:00:13
Speaker 2: I watch every now and then I'll check out a
• 1:00:16
Speaker 2: CW show, right, Like I love superhero movies, right, so
• 1:00:19
Speaker 2: I'll check out The Flash, or I'll check out Legends
• 1:00:23
Speaker 2: of Tomorrow or I'll check out, you know, Arrow, and
• 1:00:29
Speaker 2: I've only seen, like, you know, out of all of them,
• 1:00:32
Speaker 2: I've seen maybe you know, thirty of them total, like
• 1:00:38
Speaker 2: of all of the show's total. But when I see
• 1:00:41
Speaker 2: the actors and stuff in it, I genuinely do love
• 1:00:44
Speaker 2: what I have seen. So I'll be like, I'm such
• 1:00:46
Speaker 2: a fan of your show, even though I've only seen
• 1:00:49
  Speaker 2: each show.
• 1:00:50
Speaker 1: So the message for all those actors is that Donald
• 1:00:52
Speaker 1: is totally bullshitting you when.
• 1:00:55
Speaker 2: I'm telling the honest to goodness truth. I like a Supergirl,
• 1:00:59
Speaker 2: I have seen that time you like it?
• 1:01:01
Speaker 1: What about about Smallville?
• 1:01:03
Speaker 2: I only saw that show a couple of times also,
• 1:01:06
Speaker 2: And I'd like, you know, because Angel, which one was
• 1:01:11
  Speaker 2: dark Angel?
• 1:01:12
Speaker 5: This one with Jessica album, I didn't watch that one.
• 1:01:14
  Speaker 2: I didn't watch and I never do.
• 1:01:16
Speaker 1: You also used, didn't you used to watch? There was
• 1:01:18
Speaker 1: a sci fi show you Battlestar Galactica.
• 1:01:21
Speaker 2: I take it back, if you do Battlestar, Yeah, you
• 1:01:23
Speaker 2: should do Battlestar galact Yeah.
• 1:01:26
Speaker 1: I ever watched Battlestar Galactica.
• 1:01:29
Speaker 2: There we go, Thank you, Zach, thank you. I remember,
• 1:01:32
  Speaker 2: I remember, I got, I got.
• 1:01:33
Speaker 1: I was searching my brain for you I was like,
• 1:01:35
Speaker 1: I know, there was one sci fi show you actually watched.
• 1:01:37
Speaker 1: There wasn't a fucking Star Wars animated cartoon.
• 1:01:39
Speaker 2: I remember I got into an argument with my uh
• 1:01:43
Speaker 2: girlfriend at the time because I thought she uh taped
• 1:01:47
Speaker 2: over my Battlestar Galactica episode.
• 1:01:50
Speaker 1: I remember, did you watch that one? Shaw?
• 1:01:57
Speaker 5: I did not watch Battlestar.
• 1:01:58
Speaker 1: You guys, Dylan cam did you watch a Star Yeah? Yeah,
• 1:02:02
Speaker 1: Well do you guys like it?
• 1:02:04
Speaker 3: Yeah? I might. Super big and like sci fi by
• 1:02:07
Speaker 3: that one, I was pretty I think as.
• 1:02:09
Speaker 1: Far as like sci fi shows that people have liked,
• 1:02:13
Speaker 1: that's one of those ones everyone says was canceled too soon,
• 1:02:16
  Speaker 1: and people.
• 1:02:17
Speaker 2: Katie Saccoff is a She's a g if you ask me,
• 1:02:20
Speaker 2: you know what I mean. Like, she's one of those
• 1:02:22
Speaker 2: action heroes that is a good Like she's straight up
• 1:02:25
Speaker 2: as a true action star who deserves the opportunity to
• 1:02:29
Speaker 2: carry some project. They say she's going to be in
• 1:02:32
Speaker 2: The Mandalorian this upcoming season as a Bocatan, which would
• 1:02:37
Speaker 2: be really fucking dope.
• 1:02:39
Speaker 1: My grandmother used to live in book Rattan.
• 1:02:41
Speaker 2: Right, Well, these characters, these these characters all travel from.
• 1:02:46
Speaker 1: Does it take place at an old Jewish community.
• 1:02:48
Speaker 2: Center and can eat an ass.
• 1:02:51
Speaker 1: Joel, do you watch Battlestar Galactica because you like the
• 1:02:55
  Speaker 1: sci fi stuff?
• 1:02:56
  Speaker 2: Yeah?
• 1:02:57
Speaker 4: I came very very late to Battle Star Galactica, currently
• 1:03:00
Speaker 4: in the middle of season one, but really loving it.
• 1:03:03
  Speaker 4: It's amazing, It's excellent, good writing. If you're a Star
• 1:03:06
Speaker 4: Trek and or Star Wars fan, you'll probably find something
• 1:03:08
Speaker 4: like in Battlestar Galactica.
• 1:03:10
Speaker 1: All right, So guys, to finish that question off, do
• 1:03:14
Speaker 1: you have a show that that like you would love
• 1:03:17
Speaker 1: Shay to one day do a book about.
• 1:03:20
Speaker 2: Each We're gonna ask both of you each each.
• 1:03:23
Speaker 3: Yeah. First, okay, I would love Breaking Bad personally. Breaking
• 1:03:27
Speaker 3: That would be really sick. I think it's a really
• 1:03:29
Speaker 3: really good show. Yeah, that would probably be my top tooice.
• 1:03:34
Speaker 3: Maybe Parks and Rock would kind of be a more
• 1:03:36
Speaker 3: fun one. I'm more lighthearted, but I would probably say
• 1:03:39
Speaker 3: Breaking That would be a really cool one.
• 1:03:41
Speaker 1: All right, how about you.
• 1:03:43
Speaker 3: I'm always been a Jewish fan of the show Dexter.
• 1:03:46
Speaker 7: I would love to see you do that in my opinion,
• 1:03:48
Speaker 7: and born in the show start and then kind of
• 1:03:52
Speaker 7: drop cop right to finish where I think Breaking Bad
• 1:03:55
Speaker 7: is better in the series, But I think that's best
• 1:03:57
  Speaker 7: is better?
• 1:03:58
  Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I think that's that's I kind of
• 1:04:00
Speaker 3: fall in line with Donald of kind of a slight
• 1:04:03
Speaker 3: disaployment at the very end.
• 1:04:04
Speaker 2: But yeah, I was gonna say that's one. That's another
• 1:04:07
Speaker 2: show where I only watched the last episode and I
• 1:04:09
Speaker 2: was like, what the.
• 1:04:12
  Speaker 5: I've heard?
• 1:04:18
Speaker 2: That's bullshit shady When Harry Matselly.
• 1:04:20
  Speaker 1: That's a totally different example.
• 1:04:21
Speaker 2: Do you remember when Billy Crystal when she's asking when
• 1:04:25
Speaker 2: when she when he tells her how how dark he is,
• 1:04:29
Speaker 2: and he's like, I read the end of the book
• 1:04:30
Speaker 2: before I start. That's me with movies. That's me with
• 1:04:33
Speaker 2: television shows that everybody's train But that's me with television
• 1:04:37
Speaker 2: shows that everybody's like, you should watch this, you know
• 1:04:39
Speaker 2: what show you would like, you would like this show now.
• 1:04:42
Speaker 5: But you missed, you missed like the whole build up
• 1:04:45
Speaker 5: of everything, like you can't. Okay, we're talking about Nicole
• 1:04:48
Speaker 5: Sullivan character. Yeah, yes, in the in the season eight finale,
• 1:04:53
Speaker 5: when JD is doing the walk down the hallway and
• 1:04:55
Speaker 5: she pops up out of the out of the thing
• 1:04:57
Speaker 5: and she's like, there you are, and you get so
• 1:05:00
Speaker 5: fucking excite, Like there's like a real jolt of joy
• 1:05:04
Speaker 5: in your body when you see that. If you haven't
• 1:05:06
Speaker 5: watched all the other episodes, you don't understand what that.
• 1:05:09
Speaker 5: You think this is just a person who happens to
• 1:05:11
Speaker 5: be you can't just watch.
• 1:05:13
Speaker 2: So then that makes episode is the final episode of
• 1:05:15
Speaker 2: Scrubs a good episode.
• 1:05:17
  Speaker 5: It's a great, fantastic because.
• 1:05:21
Speaker 2: The Breaking Bad, the Breaking Bad finale is a fucking movie.
• 1:05:25
Speaker 2: All I needed to know was that this dude, Walter White,
• 1:05:28
  Speaker 2: was this freak.
• 1:05:29
Speaker 1: I'm gonna let the super.
• 1:05:31
  Speaker 2: Why why why?
• 1:05:34
Speaker 1: Because you you you will get so I mean, let's
• 1:05:37
Speaker 1: just take Breaking back because I feel like it's a
• 1:05:39
Speaker 1: show that everyone listening to this problem.
• 1:05:41
Speaker 2: That last that last right, But that last episode is
• 1:05:44
  Speaker 2: a movie. It's a fucking movie, a movie like like
• 1:05:48
Speaker 2: it's just like the twenty sixth hour with Edward Norton
• 1:05:51
Speaker 2: where he finally where he's a board. I forget the
• 1:05:54
Speaker 2: name of the damn movie.
• 1:05:55
Speaker 1: But you forget how many hours. There's a lot of them.
• 1:05:57
Speaker 2: There's a lot of them. But he he fucking uh,
• 1:06:00
Speaker 2: he's a drug dealer who goes to jail. You don't
• 1:06:03
Speaker 2: need to know everything that goes on before the movie.
• 1:06:06
Speaker 2: With the movie starts, you're invested the minute he gets
• 1:06:09
Speaker 2: caught out there after you know what I mean, and
• 1:06:12
Speaker 2: is going to jail, and it's the end of the story.
• 1:06:14
  Speaker 2: It's his run.
• 1:06:15
Speaker 5: But you can watch that movie and understand all of
• 1:06:18
Speaker 5: the parts by the time you get to the end
• 1:06:19
Speaker 5: of it. If you only watch the finale of Breaking Bad,
• 1:06:21
Speaker 5: like you kind of you don't understand why it's so
• 1:06:24
Speaker 5: important that he saves Jesse in that moment, You're like,
• 1:06:27
Speaker 5: I don't get it. Why did he save this one
• 1:06:28
Speaker 5: kid and kill everybody else. I don't understand why he
• 1:06:31
Speaker 5: had to walk through the meth lab the last time.
• 1:06:32
Speaker 5: I don't understand why they played this particular song. Like,
• 1:06:34
Speaker 5: you're missing so much of this thing that you gotta watch.
• 1:06:37
Speaker 1: The rest of the episode. You gotta watch it, all right, Wait,
• 1:06:40
Speaker 1: let's ask the guys if they have another question. Go ahead, guys,
• 1:06:42
Speaker 1: do you have another one?
• 1:06:44
Speaker 3: So you guys have mentioned earlier in the podcast series
• 1:06:48
Speaker 3: that you guys just beat roommates, right, Yes.
• 1:06:50
Speaker 2: We were roommates for a year, I mean for half
• 1:06:52
Speaker 2: for summer, for summer, summer for a summer.
• 1:06:54
Speaker 3: So maybe I'm kind of stirring the pod a little
• 1:06:56
Speaker 3: bit here, but what was some of your biggest pet
• 1:06:59
Speaker 3: peeves living with you?
• 1:07:00
Speaker 1: So I got to the loft first. We rented this
• 1:07:02
Speaker 1: loft for the summer. And the loft it was enormous.
• 1:07:06
Speaker 1: It was like your dream loft in terms of size,
• 1:07:08
Speaker 1: but it didn't wasn't really that set up in terms
• 1:07:10
Speaker 1: of like two nice bedrooms, two nice bathrooms. So I
• 1:07:13
Speaker 1: claimed the nice bedroom because you know, I got there first, right,
• 1:07:16
Speaker 1: that's what you do.
• 1:07:18
  Speaker 2: Right.
• 1:07:18
Speaker 1: Then I gave Donald what was technically the second bedroom,
• 1:07:22
Speaker 1: but it had a washer and drying in it, and
• 1:07:25
Speaker 1: he goes, who do you think I am? Benson? And
• 1:07:29
Speaker 1: for you guys are young, you don't know, but Benson
• 1:07:32
Speaker 1: was a show where Benson.
• 1:07:36
Speaker 2: Benson was a show. Robert Gione played Benson, and he
• 1:07:39
Speaker 2: was he worked for the mayor. He was an assistant
• 1:07:41
  Speaker 2: to the mayor.
• 1:07:42
Speaker 1: He was saying like pretty much like who do you think?
• 1:07:43
Speaker 1: I worked for him?
• 1:07:44
Speaker 2: And Benson was the one that pretty much ran the
• 1:07:47
Speaker 2: country while because the mayor was this you know, bumbling
• 1:07:52
Speaker 2: uh well, he wasn't a bumbling mayor, but he was.
• 1:07:54
Speaker 2: Benson was the one that handled everything right. He handled
• 1:07:57
Speaker 2: the house, He handled everything uh. And for some reason, Uh,
• 1:08:03
Speaker 2: to me, that ship was kind of fucked up that.
• 1:08:06
Speaker 1: You can never like Benson should be the mayor.
• 1:08:08
Speaker 2: Benson should have been the mayor, and the mayor should
• 1:08:10
Speaker 2: not have been the mayor. But that's not why I
• 1:08:12
Speaker 2: was pissed up. I was pissed off because it was like, Yo,
• 1:08:15
Speaker 2: you're gonna put me in the fucking room with the
• 1:08:17
Speaker 2: washer and drying of all the wrong look. It was
• 1:08:23
Speaker 2: either that or like a law. It was like a
• 1:08:26
Speaker 2: There was a cot right outside of his room and
• 1:08:28
Speaker 2: I was not taking the cot. Take the fucking cot.
• 1:08:31
Speaker 1: Yeah, And then I didn't really have a door. So
• 1:08:33
Speaker 1: we we we were very open with each other that summer.
• 1:08:35
Speaker 2: We were very very open with the We touched tips no, no, no,
• 1:08:39
Speaker 2: we didn't. We did doc did we donc And we
• 1:08:41
  Speaker 2: never docked.
• 1:08:42
Speaker 1: We never docked. Tok. That was the midst of the dream.
• 1:08:45
Speaker 2: This is all gone, this is oh boy.
• 1:08:47
Speaker 1: Now we're not cutting this out. Listen. This is what
• 1:08:50
Speaker 1: always happens on the show. We say something like that
• 1:08:52
Speaker 1: and then Donnag goes, we're cutting this out, and then
• 1:08:54
Speaker 1: we almost never cut it out. We used to play
• 1:08:57
Speaker 1: ping pong in in our box.
• 1:08:59
Speaker 2: In our underwear do. We had a lot of great times.
• 1:09:01
Speaker 1: I remember I think the writer Amy Tan. Is that
• 1:09:05
  Speaker 1: a famous writer?
• 1:09:06
  Speaker 3: Uh?
• 1:09:06
Speaker 1: Joelle? Okay, as I understand it. The writer Amy Tan
• 1:09:10
Speaker 1: lived beneath us, and she was not happy that two
• 1:09:13
Speaker 1: guys partying all summer were in the loft above her.
• 1:09:17
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 1:09:17
Speaker 1: And we would get a note like, we would get
• 1:09:19
Speaker 1: notes like Amy Tan is furious, you guys need a
• 1:09:22
  Speaker 1: fucking quiet down.
• 1:09:24
Speaker 2: She was like, she would write notes like do you
• 1:09:25
Speaker 2: guys have fucking elephants upstairs in apartment?
• 1:09:29
  Speaker 1: Yeah?
• 1:09:30
Speaker 2: Because the banging. I can only imagine. She would write
• 1:09:33
Speaker 2: some pretty unique notes though she.
• 1:09:34
Speaker 1: Was a written well, she was a good writer. They
• 1:09:36
  Speaker 1: were beautifully written.
• 1:09:38
Speaker 2: She wrote the joy Luck Club. Holy shit, we were
• 1:09:40
Speaker 2: fucking with the lady who wrote the joy Luck We.
• 1:09:42
Speaker 1: Were fun whether we were just having fun. And I
• 1:09:44
Speaker 1: remember her very well worded angry letters.
• 1:09:47
Speaker 2: Yeah. I wish you still had them.
• 1:09:50
Speaker 1: Yeah. She pulled out the thesaurus for some of those.
• 1:09:56
Speaker 1: We could probably sell them on eBay. Those are worth something.
• 1:09:58
Speaker 1: Amy Tan's angry letters. All right, we gotta keep going.
• 1:10:07
Speaker 1: Thank you guys for coming on, Donald, thank you.
• 1:10:11
Speaker 2: Hey, thank you guys.
• 1:10:13
  Speaker 3: I appreciate it.
• 1:10:14
Speaker 2: What is that on your shirt? Summer League?
• 1:10:16
Speaker 3: Yeah, Vegas Summer League. So probably know about Summer League, yeah,
• 1:10:20
Speaker 3: NBA yeah Basketballak, you probably don't know too much.
• 1:10:22
Speaker 1: About what Donald Donald?
• 1:10:25
  Speaker 2: Are you?
• 1:10:25
Speaker 3: But no, we're big Bucks fans.
• 1:10:28
Speaker 2: Bucks fans And okay, right on, how long do you
• 1:10:30
Speaker 2: think you can hold at too there?
• 1:10:32
Speaker 3: For he's resigning? You heard it? Yeah, you believe he's
• 1:10:40
Speaker 3: not coming to San Antonio show.
• 1:10:43
Speaker 2: I mean, look, here's the thing. Do they come out
• 1:10:46
Speaker 2: of the world. I mean, there is no East this
• 1:10:48
Speaker 2: year or West for the for this bubble round that
• 1:10:51
Speaker 2: they're talking about at Disney, right, it's just a bunch
• 1:10:53
Speaker 2: of teams thrown into a pot.
• 1:10:54
Speaker 3: Is that I think? I think they are still doing
• 1:10:56
Speaker 3: the East West. It's something weird though. It's kind of
• 1:10:58
Speaker 3: weird how they set out.
• 1:11:00
Speaker 2: It would be nice if they just threw teams into
• 1:11:02
Speaker 2: a pot so you could get you know, first rounds
• 1:11:05
Speaker 2: with like Houston versus Milwaukee or Houston vers you know, Washington.
• 1:11:10
Speaker 2: That'd be really cool.
• 1:11:11
Speaker 1: But what's his name again? I wanted to try and
• 1:11:13
Speaker 1: use it, Jansa Joo. Yes, well, I gotta tell you,
• 1:11:28
Speaker 1: he's a really great player. And what I like about
• 1:11:30
Speaker 1: him is he's always in the paint.
• 1:11:36
Speaker 5: That's actually true actually, and he reminds me.
• 1:11:39
Speaker 1: Of Rodman because he's always getting those rebounds.
• 1:11:42
Speaker 2: Wow, not bad, not bad, not bad, not basketball.
• 1:11:49
Speaker 3: Kind of a quick little share story. We uh, I
• 1:11:52
Speaker 3: think back to the episode where I don't think it
• 1:11:55
Speaker 3: was the standards. There's like a flashback to where you
• 1:11:57
Speaker 3: guys got to go seet Michael Jordan's yea, when we
• 1:12:05
Speaker 3: were in high school. I want tickets to buck Lakers
• 1:12:08
Speaker 3: game and shout out rest in peace Kobe Bryant. But
• 1:12:12
Speaker 3: we got to see Kobe Bryant playing. We rolled up
• 1:12:14
Speaker 3: and that's we're doing. Don't see Kobe Bryant.
• 1:12:18
Speaker 1: And I take ticket unlike unlike Jad and Turk. You
• 1:12:23
Speaker 1: guys remember the tickets. I take it right?
• 1:12:26
  Speaker 3: Yeah?
• 1:12:32
  Speaker 2: Is it?
• 1:12:32
  Speaker 3: That?
• 1:12:32
Speaker 1: Is that like in Scrubs? Lord Donald? Is that how
• 1:12:35
Speaker 1: you began to lose your hair? You first started pulling
• 1:12:37
  Speaker 1: it out, And.
• 1:12:38
  Speaker 3: I don't know how.
• 1:12:38
Speaker 2: I began to I don't know how Turk started to
• 1:12:41
Speaker 2: lose his hair, but that.
• 1:12:42
Speaker 1: Was the first moment.
• 1:12:43
Speaker 2: That's one of the first moments.
• 1:12:46
Speaker 1: All right, guys, thank you so much for coming on.
• 1:12:47
Speaker 1: I really appreciate it.
• 1:12:48
  Speaker 2: Appreciate Hey, for.
• 1:12:49
Speaker 3: Everyone Wisconsin, come play tennis with the Zach for tennis
• 1:12:52
  Speaker 3: coaches too.
• 1:12:53
Speaker 1: Oh really, right on? I love it. I love it.
• 1:12:56
Speaker 1: I'll find you guys. All right, guys. You know, I
• 1:13:01
Speaker 1: appreciate that they knew how to tap into the one
• 1:13:03
Speaker 1: sport that I could talk about, and there they were.
• 1:13:06
Speaker 1: They were very good guests. I like that.
• 1:13:09
Speaker 2: Uh, MASSI is back in yeah, which is great. He
• 1:13:15
Speaker 2: went on to become a time traveling hero. That was
• 1:13:17
Speaker 2: another show I watched, Shay Heroes. I watched that all
• 1:13:20
  Speaker 2: the way through.
• 1:13:21
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 1:13:22
Speaker 1: Yeah, by the way, a couple of goose I had
• 1:13:24
Speaker 1: goosebumps multiple times in this episode. The first was nine
• 1:13:27
Speaker 1: fifty six when they're playing pool in the bar and
• 1:13:31
Speaker 1: Ben's hand is still bleeding and the look Cox gives
• 1:13:34
Speaker 1: to JD. It really moved me because first it's my
• 1:13:38
Speaker 1: even because I was reading your essays and now was
• 1:13:40
Speaker 1: all emotional, Shay, but I went My first reaction was
• 1:13:44
Speaker 1: Cox can't hide the fact that he respects JD is
• 1:13:47
Speaker 1: a doctor to know that he'll know what that could mean.
• 1:13:50
Speaker 5: Yeah, immediately, do you know what I mean?
• 1:13:52
Speaker 1: It was like, you know, Cox is always fronting like, oh,
• 1:13:55
Speaker 1: your girl's name and JD, you sucking but obviously under
• 1:13:57
Speaker 1: undercurrent trying to build him up. But that was a
• 1:14:00
Speaker 1: moment of shock where he looked to it as a peer,
• 1:14:03
Speaker 1: as a peer and when you know what that could.
• 1:14:05
Speaker 5: Mean, Yeah, that's like it. So you see you see
• 1:14:08
Speaker 5: him do it in the in the pilot, it was
• 1:14:10
Speaker 5: like the first time he expresses some sort of like
• 1:14:14
Speaker 5: not admiration, but like you know, I'm gonna grab a
• 1:14:16
Speaker 5: hold of you and take take care of you. And
• 1:14:18
Speaker 5: then this time was the first time when he he
• 1:14:20
Speaker 5: doesn't say anything. There's no words at all. He just
• 1:14:24
Speaker 5: looks and he knows, and JD knows, and the only
• 1:14:27
Speaker 5: person who doesn't know in that moment is Ben. He's like, oh,
• 1:14:30
  Speaker 5: it's about it.
• 1:14:31
Speaker 1: I was really inspected by the respect that he's I mean,
• 1:14:35
Speaker 1: obviously in his mind wasn't I'm gonna now respect this person.
• 1:14:37
Speaker 1: It was just it didn't he didn't have a moment
• 1:14:39
Speaker 1: to put on his airs, if you will, He didn't
• 1:14:42
Speaker 1: have a moment to put on his front. He just
• 1:14:44
Speaker 1: had an instant reaction to a fellow doctor and went, oh, fuck,
• 1:14:47
Speaker 1: you know what this could mean.
• 1:14:48
Speaker 5: It's totally It's totally different than when you see him
• 1:14:51
Speaker 5: at the very beginning of the next episode when he
• 1:14:54
Speaker 5: walks into the room and JD and and Jordan and
• 1:14:58
Speaker 5: Benn are in there, and JD's doing the thing about
• 1:15:00
Speaker 5: like we knew, you know, you don't need a we
• 1:15:02
Speaker 5: don't need a resident, we need like a hero. And
• 1:15:05
Speaker 5: then he comes walking in and now now he's prepared
• 1:15:07
Speaker 5: for the situation and doing the whole thing. But yeah,
• 1:15:09
Speaker 5: you're exactly right in that moment and.
• 1:15:12
Speaker 1: Then and the second time. First of all, I just
• 1:15:15
Speaker 1: want to say at ten or five, there was a
• 1:15:16
Speaker 1: really cool transition moment that Larry Trilling did from I
• 1:15:19
Speaker 1: love how they went from the bar right to the
• 1:15:20
Speaker 1: exam room. That was cool.
• 1:15:22
Speaker 2: Awesome. Man, before we before we moved before, before we
• 1:15:25
Speaker 2: move forward with that. You know, he says, I've never
• 1:15:27
Speaker 2: asked you out for a beer before, but he had
• 1:15:30
Speaker 2: asked you out for a beer before, And that was
• 1:15:32
Speaker 2: when he lost his ship and tore up the lab
• 1:15:38
Speaker 2: that day, and he was having his worst day and
• 1:15:42
Speaker 2: you got caught up in it. He does invite you
• 1:15:44
Speaker 2: out for a beer. You guys go to a bar
• 1:15:46
Speaker 2: and you drink beer. You drink together. Actually, so that
• 1:15:51
Speaker 2: was very weird that he was like, you know, I've
• 1:15:52
Speaker 2: never asked you out.
• 1:15:53
Speaker 1: Maybe he've blocked it out.
• 1:15:55
  Speaker 2: Whatever.
• 1:15:56
Speaker 1: I'm just you know, you're just trying to show off
• 1:15:58
Speaker 1: that you're like the Scrubs Wiki guy. By the mean,
• 1:16:01
Speaker 1: a lot of laughter on my Insta comments about Scrubs
• 1:16:04
Speaker 1: Wiki guys. They were like someone was like that guy
• 1:16:07
Speaker 1: pulled a total Dorian and people were just laughing about
• 1:16:13
Speaker 1: how No, friends, Trevor, we we got you. Now you're
• 1:16:16
Speaker 1: gonna be our Scrubs Wiki guy, right, Donald.
• 1:16:20
Speaker 2: I mean he doesn't necessarily want him.
• 1:16:22
Speaker 1: No, but I kind of like that about his character. No,
• 1:16:24
Speaker 1: but I kind of liked that about his character in
• 1:16:26
Speaker 1: the show. He's like a reluctant. He like a reluctant.
• 1:16:30
  Speaker 1: He's reluctant.
• 1:16:31
Speaker 2: So, yeah, that's what you do. Think of it as
• 1:16:33
Speaker 2: like the hero's journey. In the beginning, you don't really
• 1:16:36
Speaker 2: want to do it. Yeah, once you get on board,
• 1:16:39
Speaker 2: you're off to an adventure, that adventure of a lifetime.
• 1:16:43
Speaker 1: Yeah, Trevor, by the time we do one hundred and
• 1:16:45
Speaker 1: eighty two episodes, you'll be happy that you came along
• 1:16:48
Speaker 1: on the journey. And the other moment and the other
• 1:16:51
Speaker 1: moment we got goo goosebumps. As I said earlier, that's
• 1:16:54
Speaker 1: that Shaye writes about in his essay was when Jad
• 1:16:59
Speaker 1: reads the chart and sees that Ben has leukemia, and
• 1:17:02
Speaker 1: Carla comes up and she says, are you okay? And
• 1:17:05
Speaker 1: I just say no. And it was just really, really
• 1:17:09
Speaker 1: powerful because it was one of those moments that she's
• 1:17:11
Speaker 1: talking about where there had just been a silly moment
• 1:17:14
Speaker 1: of of the fantasy of what happens in that in
• 1:17:16
Speaker 1: that blood test guy's office, and and and and and
• 1:17:20
Speaker 1: Doug being you know Doug, and then all of a sudden, bam,
• 1:17:23
Speaker 1: we just drop in with, Hey, this guy we just
• 1:17:26
Speaker 1: made you fall in love with he's got leukemia.
• 1:17:28
Speaker 5: She's so good in like every single moment, like she
• 1:17:31
Speaker 5: has this like a her player efficiency rating has got
• 1:17:35
Speaker 5: to be fucking outrageous, Yeah, which is like you know
• 1:17:38
  Speaker 5: what I'm.
• 1:17:38
Speaker 2: Saying, Yeah, she's if you were playing if you were
• 1:17:41
Speaker 2: playing NBA two K, she's like ninety six ninety seven,
• 1:17:47
Speaker 2: Like she was like just straight up like she's glitch
• 1:17:50
Speaker 2: mode man at that time. Yeah.
• 1:17:55
Speaker 1: I think that she is an incredible actress and in
• 1:17:57
Speaker 1: the show, she was the perfect tool to use for
• 1:18:00
Speaker 1: moments like this because she was the heart, you know,
• 1:18:02
Speaker 1: she was the heart of She was the conscience and
• 1:18:04
Speaker 1: the heart for everybody.
• 1:18:06
Speaker 2: At least the first two seasons. I think as the
• 1:18:08
Speaker 2: show went on, she you know, she became as much
• 1:18:11
Speaker 2: of us a character as we you know, as all
• 1:18:14
Speaker 2: of us did. But in the first two seasons, she
• 1:18:16
Speaker 2: was definitely the grounding factor to all of the you
• 1:18:19
Speaker 2: know what I mean to everything m hm.
• 1:18:21
Speaker 1: So then we go into this fantasy that we don't
• 1:18:24
Speaker 1: know is a fantasy delivery end of the show, and
• 1:18:27
Speaker 1: all of this happens in Jady's Magination, which which again
• 1:18:30
Speaker 1: we talked about it earlier in this podcast, but you
• 1:18:33
Speaker 1: know that totally foreshadows the giant mislead we do in
• 1:18:38
Speaker 1: season three with with Johnny not knowing that that that
• 1:18:42
Speaker 1: Ben's gone. So it's just really interesting that that bill
• 1:18:47
Speaker 1: not only introduced Ben for for the long haul, but
• 1:18:50
Speaker 1: then mirrored that sort of wacky fantasy structure.
• 1:18:54
Speaker 5: Well, so when when when you reached out and asked
• 1:18:57
Speaker 5: which episode I wanted to be, like, if I could,
• 1:19:00
Speaker 5: if I wanted to be on a thing, that that
• 1:19:03
Speaker 5: was the whole reason that I ended up picking this
• 1:19:05
Speaker 5: one because I think this episode in season one, especially
• 1:19:08
Speaker 5: it's like the one episode where we see the most
• 1:19:11
Speaker 5: amount of tricks that Scrubs is able to pull off
• 1:19:14
Speaker 5: that maybe a lot of shows aren't. So so if
• 1:19:17
Speaker 5: we have if we put a list together, you have
• 1:19:19
Speaker 5: that great scene where Elliott makes yourself cry to get
• 1:19:23
Speaker 5: the to redo the thing right. So this is like
• 1:19:26
Speaker 5: her being very silly in this situation. But to do
• 1:19:29
Speaker 5: that as an actor, I imagine, is incredibly tricky, just
• 1:19:34
Speaker 5: like pull that out of you. So you have her
• 1:19:37
Speaker 5: doing that. You have Carla with JD in the hallway
• 1:19:40
Speaker 5: and Carla's doing her quick missile strike right here where
• 1:19:42
Speaker 5: she just like get a pump, a scene full of emotion.
• 1:19:44
Speaker 5: You have the thing where they're playing with timelines, which
• 1:19:47
Speaker 5: they use to even greater effect later on. You have
• 1:19:50
Speaker 5: the gag with we we find out that the janitor
• 1:19:53
Speaker 5: is in like the background of all of these pictures.
• 1:19:58
Speaker 5: There's so much we have. We have doctor Cox using
• 1:20:01
Speaker 5: his serious voice. He doesn't do it very often, but
• 1:20:04
Speaker 5: when he does it, you feel it. And he tells JD, like,
• 1:20:07
Speaker 5: your only job today is you get these test results back.
• 1:20:10
Speaker 5: Like you love to see him drop everything do that.
• 1:20:11
Speaker 5: You have Turt sticking up for JD. You have Brendan
• 1:20:14
Speaker 5: Fraser swooping in and being just like the perfect cameo
• 1:20:17
Speaker 5: character where you have to be able to tell a
• 1:20:19
Speaker 5: joke but you also have to be able to stick
• 1:20:21
Speaker 5: this landing. Yeah, there's just so much stuff going on.
• 1:20:24
Speaker 5: This one episode's perfect.
• 1:20:26
Speaker 1: By the way, Shay, you just made me think of
• 1:20:28
Speaker 1: something else, which was Sarah's a bit which he really
• 1:20:32
Speaker 1: did live on camera obviously, which which actors often have
• 1:20:37
Speaker 1: to do and can always do, but Sarah does literally
• 1:20:40
Speaker 1: live on camera. Here is get themselves in a headspace
• 1:20:42
Speaker 1: where they can produce tears, and that moment really encapsulates
• 1:20:48
Speaker 1: exactly what you're talking about in Scrubbs being able to
• 1:20:51
Speaker 1: dance between comedy and drama, because what Sarah's doing is
• 1:20:54
Speaker 1: very funny, but if you look at the words she's
• 1:20:56
Speaker 1: saying to get herself to cry, it's very seriously it's
• 1:21:00
Speaker 1: the painful stuff from her life and trying to impress
• 1:21:02
Speaker 1: her father and whatever whatever she was saying. But it
• 1:21:05
Speaker 1: was like happening simultaneously, is this thing you're laughing at,
• 1:21:09
Speaker 1: but what the woman is saying is is so sad,
• 1:21:13
Speaker 1: you know, and then it ends with her with tears
• 1:21:15
Speaker 1: streaming got her face if it was a really great acting.
• 1:21:17
Speaker 2: Woman for Sarah, she's amazing.
• 1:21:21
Speaker 1: What about Chop Chop Nancy Rapido.
• 1:21:24
Speaker 2: Raio, I remember that, dude, I remember that day. I remember.
• 1:21:29
Speaker 2: I think that was one of the first times where
• 1:21:31
Speaker 2: I was having a hard time with lines.
• 1:21:32
Speaker 1: I remember Chop Chop Nancy.
• 1:21:36
Speaker 2: No, I had the whole thing where it was like,
• 1:21:38
Speaker 2: you're gonna go back there and you're gonna do this
• 1:21:39
Speaker 2: and blah blah blah. I think that was one of
• 1:21:41
Speaker 2: the first times where I was like, I didn't study this.
• 1:21:43
Speaker 2: Oh shit. Leonard makes an appearance.
• 1:21:49
Speaker 1: Here without a hook arm, though without.
• 1:21:51
Speaker 2: A hook on his hand. So what is the story.
• 1:21:54
Speaker 1: I read on scrubs Wiki that the guy wrote perhaps
• 1:21:58
Speaker 1: this episode is before his ice machine accident.
• 1:22:01
Speaker 2: I think it is.
• 1:22:03
Speaker 1: I didn't remember that that Leonard had lost his arm
• 1:22:07
Speaker 1: in an ice machine accident. Did you need that?
• 1:22:09
Speaker 2: I did not either, But I love that.
• 1:22:10
Speaker 1: I love that on scrumbs Wiki it's like this may
• 1:22:12
Speaker 1: have occurred before Ard ice.
• 1:22:15
Speaker 2: Machine, but I didn't have to because he had a hand.
• 1:22:20
Speaker 1: So for those of you who don't remember, that's Randall Winston,
• 1:22:22
Speaker 1: our line producer who not only played death but also
• 1:22:25
Speaker 1: played Leonard. This is his first appearance in his wig and.
• 1:22:30
Speaker 2: The afro isn't that big yet either.
• 1:22:31
Speaker 1: It's like he was he was keeping his throat tighter, right,
• 1:22:39
Speaker 1: but he does he does not yet have a hook hand.
• 1:22:41
Speaker 1: This might be I believe, the only appearance of Leonard
• 1:22:43
Speaker 1: without his hook hands, so the ice machine. But then again, sorry,
• 1:22:46
Speaker 1: I'm going all over the place. But this was a fantasy.
• 1:22:49
Speaker 1: So maybe in JD's weird daydream, Leonard didn't have to
• 1:22:53
  Speaker 1: hook yet.
• 1:22:54
Speaker 2: He didn't recognize Leonard had a hook yet he had.
• 1:22:59
Speaker 1: I hadn't noticed it. Leonard had a hook hit.
• 1:23:01
Speaker 5: So when I had a fantasy, Shane, that seems like
• 1:23:04
Speaker 5: something you would notice, though, I just want to that
• 1:23:08
Speaker 5: you've probably noticed that.
• 1:23:12
Speaker 1: So it took me a moment because I've forgotten well,
• 1:23:15
Speaker 1: I wanted to just mention in eighteen thirty six again,
• 1:23:17
Speaker 1: Brennan took all those pictures and they're pretty great, uh pictures,
• 1:23:20
Speaker 1: I believe christ this still save a bunch of them.
• 1:23:24
Speaker 1: And then JD. Yeah, So then I was kind of
• 1:23:29
Speaker 1: surprised by that reveal. You know, again, I've watched these
• 1:23:32
Speaker 1: in twenty years. I thought it was cool to see this,
• 1:23:34
Speaker 1: you know, and Bill was smart directorially and writing wise.
• 1:23:38
Speaker 1: You needed something very specific to make the audience go,
• 1:23:41
Speaker 1: this is the exact same moment. You need a device
• 1:23:44
Speaker 1: because the audience is going to centerally track it. Keep
• 1:23:46
Speaker 1: in mind, when people watching these they had commercial breaks
• 1:23:48
Speaker 1: in and everything, so that you need the audience to
• 1:23:50
Speaker 1: make sure they tracked that whole run. And he came
• 1:23:52
Speaker 1: up with the device of the exact playing cards on
• 1:23:55
  Speaker 1: their foreheads.
• 1:23:56
Speaker 2: Right. But here's the thing. He also made it seem
• 1:23:58
Speaker 2: like it was a curveball. That's you know, not only
• 1:24:02
Speaker 2: did it curve, but the ship was a change up too,
• 1:24:05
Speaker 2: you know what I mean, Like because you don't think
• 1:24:07
Speaker 2: that the whole thing is a daydream. You think, just
• 1:24:12
Speaker 2: when he gets the the paper the second time and
• 1:24:16
Speaker 2: he meets uh, Brendan Fraser outside, Yeah, you think that's
• 1:24:23
Speaker 2: all the fan that's just the fantasy. I'm gonna go
• 1:24:26
Speaker 2: out there and hey man, it's just leukemia. It's not leukemia.
• 1:24:29
  Speaker 2: You're you're fine. I was wrong. I was wrong. And
• 1:24:32
Speaker 2: you know, the circle comes around and it's got this
• 1:24:34
Speaker 2: weird You think, Okay, so this part's the fantasy. And
• 1:24:37
Speaker 2: I expected you to be at the door of the
• 1:24:40
Speaker 2: exit telling him, No, dude, here's what I think you
• 1:24:43
Speaker 2: need to You need to come back inside. Actually, and
• 1:24:46
Speaker 2: it doesn't even do that. It jumps all the way
• 1:24:48
Speaker 2: back to the moment. And so it was like a
• 1:24:52
Speaker 2: It was like a not It wasn't just one pump fake.
• 1:24:54
Speaker 2: It was like he was under the rim giving you
• 1:24:56
Speaker 2: the dream shake, you know what I mean? Like and
• 1:25:01
Speaker 2: then you know what I mean.
• 1:25:02
Speaker 1: You know what's funny about that fantasy?
• 1:25:05
  Speaker 5: You know?
• 1:25:05
Speaker 1: It's the writing is such that it's supposed to be. Oh,
• 1:25:08
Speaker 1: Ben says he doesn't like post pictures. You'll know it's
• 1:25:11
Speaker 1: a fantasy because here we are taking a post picture.
• 1:25:13
Speaker 1: But what what tipped it off even more from me
• 1:25:15
Speaker 1: was that Kelso's happily getting in a picture with everyone.
• 1:25:18
Speaker 1: I was like, ELSA would never want to do with these. Yeah,
• 1:25:23
Speaker 1: I think that's it, guys. I think we did the
• 1:25:25
Speaker 1: whole We did the whole episode.
• 1:25:27
  Speaker 2: Yeah, we did.
• 1:25:28
Speaker 1: Chande, did you have fun? Are you glad you did this?
• 1:25:31
Speaker 5: I'm really glad this was like a you know, part
• 1:25:33
Speaker 5: of me is like, these are two guys who I
• 1:25:35
Speaker 5: have been watching for so long. I'm kind of nervous
• 1:25:38
Speaker 5: to meet him. I don't really like to meet the
• 1:25:39
Speaker 5: people who I admire, because what if it turns out
• 1:25:42
Speaker 5: their dicks? So I had that in my head, But no,
• 1:25:45
  Speaker 5: y'are cool. Hold, I hope you're better than I was.
• 1:25:49
Speaker 2: Will you come back on?
• 1:25:51
Speaker 1: Yeah? Will you come back on?
• 1:25:52
Speaker 5: Yeah? I'll come back on later on after y'all do
• 1:25:54
Speaker 5: all of the other stuff for sure.
• 1:25:56
Speaker 1: Because I have a feeling what's going to happen on
• 1:25:58
Speaker 1: all of our social media is every one's gonna say
• 1:26:00
Speaker 1: Shaye was the best. Guess you need to have shade
• 1:26:02
Speaker 1: back all the time. Carol mal Bear.
• 1:26:05
  Speaker 5: Definitely hashtag Carl.
• 1:26:14
Speaker 2: Whatever happened to We don't know. He freaking we went
• 1:26:18
Speaker 2: into the party and he got he got jumped or
• 1:26:20
  Speaker 2: something like that.
• 1:26:21
Speaker 5: Yeah, he definitely died on the show. In real life
• 1:26:25
Speaker 5: he's still working, but on the show.
• 1:26:26
Speaker 2: You know he has a twin brother, right, yeah, yeah,
• 1:26:30
Speaker 2: And I remember one night we were out and his
• 1:26:32
Speaker 2: twin brother. Everybody thought his twin brother was him, and
• 1:26:35
Speaker 2: they were coming up to him going pedro.
• 1:26:37
Speaker 1: Pedro, and as I recall, the twin brother was rolling with.
• 1:26:40
Speaker 2: It, rolling with it, loving it, and he was like,
• 1:26:44
Speaker 2: don't tell anybody. I was like, I'm not gonna say
• 1:26:46
Speaker 2: ship dude, I thought that I thought you were the
• 1:26:49
  Speaker 2: other one.
• 1:26:53
Speaker 1: Oh I I had people telling me that. I'm always
• 1:26:56
Speaker 1: say that's funny, like Mandy Moore's character does on the show,
• 1:27:00
Speaker 1: and then I need to stop saying that. Donald. I
• 1:27:02
Speaker 1: had someone write that to me.
• 1:27:03
Speaker 2: You guys did date. Maybe that rubbed off on you.
• 1:27:06
Speaker 1: Well, I don't know if that's the case, but all right, guys,
• 1:27:11
Speaker 1: I want to get out. I want to know you.
• 1:27:13
  Speaker 2: Can leave it.
• 1:27:15
Speaker 1: Listen Shay's handle on Twitter at Shae Serrano s h
• 1:27:21
  Speaker 1: e A s E r r A n O follow
• 1:27:25
Speaker 1: him on there. He is one of the most popular
• 1:27:27
Speaker 1: fellows on Twitter. He does a lot of amazing I
• 1:27:30
Speaker 1: just talk for a second, shape before we go about
• 1:27:33
Speaker 1: this cool thing you do with the f O h Army,
• 1:27:36
Speaker 1: tell us people what that is. Shaye will have like
• 1:27:39
Speaker 1: drives for people that need help. He'll be like, all right,
• 1:27:42
Speaker 1: whose bills are we paying this week? And then he'll
• 1:27:44
Speaker 1: like just venmo them cash. So just talk about it
• 1:27:48
  Speaker 1: for a second.
• 1:27:49
Speaker 5: Yeah, that's like the silly little sort of gorilla philanthropy
• 1:27:52
Speaker 5: thing we started a couple of years ago where it
• 1:27:54
Speaker 5: was like, after we had enough people following me on Twitter,
• 1:27:58
Speaker 5: we were all grouped up together. If we got get
• 1:28:00
Speaker 5: one hundred, two hundred three hundred thousand people following, we
• 1:28:03
Speaker 5: could raise a lot of money real fast if everybody
• 1:28:05
Speaker 5: sends like a dollar or two dollars or whatever. And
• 1:28:08
Speaker 5: so you know, we started doing that and then yeah,
• 1:28:11
Speaker 5: when the coronavirus stuff hit, when the Black Lives Matter
• 1:28:14
Speaker 5: movement started up after the George Floyd's murder, we're like,
• 1:28:19
Speaker 5: you know, we're gonna try to help out in any
• 1:28:21
Speaker 5: situation we can. So like people will send stuff to
• 1:28:24
Speaker 5: me and we're like, all right, cool, we're gonna fund this.
• 1:28:25
Speaker 5: We're gonna send some money out. So yeah, I think
• 1:28:28
Speaker 5: like since March twelve, it's been you know, two hundred
• 1:28:30
Speaker 5: and fifty two hundred and forty thousand dollars up, just
• 1:28:33
Speaker 5: like straight cash. We've given two places of people.
• 1:28:36
Speaker 1: And do people give you I think just from following
• 1:28:38
Speaker 1: you do. Some people who can afford it give you
• 1:28:40
Speaker 1: like large sums and hey say hey, Shay, distribute this.
• 1:28:43
Speaker 5: Every once in a while, somebody will hit me up
• 1:28:45
Speaker 5: like and my DMS and be like, hey, I don't
• 1:28:47
Speaker 5: want you to like say where this came from, but
• 1:28:49
Speaker 5: like here's five thousand dollars. Can you pay bills for
• 1:28:52
Speaker 5: people until this is gone? Like that happens every once
• 1:28:54
Speaker 5: in a while. Mostly though, it's like we're all gonna
• 1:28:56
Speaker 5: chip in five bucks, ten bucks and see what happens.
• 1:28:59
Speaker 1: That's really awesome, man, that that's really aw and he's
• 1:29:01
Speaker 1: so sweet about it. People will write him things like, oh,
• 1:29:03
Speaker 1: thank you so much, Shay, I'm having trouble with my
• 1:29:05
Speaker 1: bills and he's like, fuck that noise, and he'll send
• 1:29:07
Speaker 1: them money. That's awesome, awesome, all right, everybody, that's the
• 1:29:12
Speaker 1: episode I want to thank, We want to thank on
• 1:29:14
Speaker 1: behalf of my co host and I sh Shay, you
• 1:29:17

• 1:32:03
Speaker 2: favorite player. Why Tim Duncan?
• 1:32:06
Speaker 5: Okay, let me tell you that there's a very personal
• 1:32:09
Speaker 5: connection that Tim Duncan has with San Antonio and that
• 1:32:13
Speaker 5: he showed up and all of a sudden a city
• 1:32:16
Speaker 5: that had an inferiority complex, you know, we're not as
• 1:32:19
Speaker 5: hip as Austin, We're not as cool as as Houston
• 1:32:23
Speaker 5: or whatever. They beat us in the playoffs. Blah blah blah.
• 1:32:25
Speaker 5: He shows up and all of a sudden, we have
• 1:32:27
Speaker 5: the guy on our team that everybody's afraid of, and
• 1:32:31
Speaker 5: he's going to war and he's not backing down. You
• 1:32:34
Speaker 5: gotta fucking kill this guy in the playoffs if you
• 1:32:36
Speaker 5: want to beat him. He shows up, he delivers five
• 1:32:39
Speaker 5: championships for us. All of a sudden, we have that
• 1:32:43
Speaker 5: we I think he's the fifth or sixth greatest basketball
• 1:32:45
Speaker 5: player of all time. We have him on our team.
• 1:32:48
Speaker 5: He allows you, in your chest to feel like a winner,
• 1:32:51
Speaker 5: to feel like a champan. You know how it feels
• 1:32:52
Speaker 5: when the team that you love wins a thing and
• 1:32:54
Speaker 5: you feel like you're a part of it.
• 1:32:56
Speaker 2: It's like Jeter to New York Man, exactly know exactly
• 1:32:58

Speaker 2: Genobilie and Tony Parker.
• 1:33:21
Speaker 5: Uh, those guys were those guys were great, but those
• 1:33:24
Speaker 5: were not players you could take and put on other teams.
• 1:33:26
Speaker 2: And they maybe Janobili Janobli maybe you know, maybe Tony
• 1:33:32
Speaker 2: in his in his younger years anyway, but.
