Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_03: On this episode of the Tailgate podcast, we are proud to announce our new sponsor, Def Charts, the most innovative site to track player movements, ratings, where those NFL players stack up on their own teams.
- 0:14SPEAKER_03: And they also have some pretty awesome custom team merch.
- 0:18SPEAKER_03: I like to think of it as a PFF meeting our lads, but with a little bit more depth.
- 0:23SPEAKER_03: Check them out at death charts dot com or death underscore charts on Twitter and Instagram.
- 1:16SPEAKER_03: So starting in the WNBA with the game twos of the first round, Caitlin Clark recorded a 27.15 assist double-double to force a decisive game three against the Las Vegas Aces on Thursday, October 1st.
- 1:34SPEAKER_03: There was also some controversy in this game with Asia Wilson at the end getting into an altercation with a fan.
- 1:42SPEAKER_03: The fan was not even escorted out of the game, so not really sure what to make of that whole situation, but we will see a decisive game three between the Fever and the Aces, two of the most entertaining and star-studded teams in the W on Thursday.
- 1:58SPEAKER_03: The New York Liberty also defeated the Minnesota Lynx and Olivia Miles and sent them home packing.
- 2:05SPEAKER_03: The New York Liberty and Sabrina Ionescu and Brianna Stewart advanced to the next round.
- 2:12SPEAKER_03: The Atlanta Dream also defeated the Mystics in game two, 93-75 to eliminate them and move on.
- 2:19SPEAKER_03: And then finally, in game two between Dallas and Golden State, Dallas forced overtime with a late three in regulation, right?
- 2:28SPEAKER_03: As time was about to expire, and then finished the comeback off and forced a decisive game three as well.
- 2:34SPEAKER_03: So two game threes forced and two sweeps.
- 2:38SPEAKER_03: The Liberty and the Dream Advance, the Fever and the Aces will play game three.
- 2:44SPEAKER_03: The Wings and the Valkyrie will play game three as well.
- 2:49SPEAKER_03: Some updates from NHL's opening night and second night of action on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.
- 2:57SPEAKER_03: Five games took place on Tuesday, including the reigning champs Carolina, who lost one to nothing to the Florida Panthers in overtime after raising their Stanley Cup banner.
- 3:08SPEAKER_03: William Neilander scored two goals for Toronto, but that was not enough to get past the Canadians.
- 3:13SPEAKER_03: They were, however, the first team to play a back-to-back.
- 3:17SPEAKER_03: They played Tuesday and Wednesday.
- 3:19SPEAKER_03: The Maple Leafs got off to a quick start on Wednesday night.
- 3:22SPEAKER_03: They scored two quick goals in the first period, and that was all they needed as they were able to defeat the Islanders 2-1.
- 3:30SPEAKER_03: The Bruins, led by goalie Jeremy Swayman, shut out the New York Rangers and get their first win of the season 3-0.
- 3:38SPEAKER_03: The Canucks and the Oilers played a tremendous game, and Vancouver ended up taking that first two-point edge in an overtime win six to five.
- 3:49SPEAKER_03: The Vegas Gold Knights opened their home schedule with a 5-2 defeat of the Chicago Blackhawks, routing the Blackhawks and Connor Bedard.
- 4:01SPEAKER_03: Other places on Wednesday, the Penguins and the Flyers renewed their uh cross-state Pennsylvania rivalry.
- 4:08SPEAKER_03: Pittsburgh started hot, stayed hot, finished hot.
- 4:12SPEAKER_03: They beat the Flyers 7-0 in their cross-state rivalry.
- 4:17SPEAKER_03: And then Colorado and the Kings, they played a really exciting game Wednesday night.
- 4:21SPEAKER_03: Colorado scored four goals in the first two periods before ending up getting that win.
- 4:27SPEAKER_03: We will be giving hockey updates every week on the Tailgate podcast until the Stanley Cup playoffs when we will dive in further.
- 4:36SPEAKER_03: Some MLB wild card updates.
- 4:43SPEAKER_03: That NL East race was back and forth.
- 4:46SPEAKER_03: It was uh, you know, very contentious most of the season.
- 4:49SPEAKER_03: The Braves held that division for most of the year.
- 4:53SPEAKER_03: Um, in game one, we saw Austin Riley smash an eighth run, eighth inning three-run bomb to help Atlanta defeat the Phillies in game one, but Philly responded.
- 5:04SPEAKER_03: Uh, but right after Bryce Harper uh made a pretty bad read on a ball hit to the right field wall.
- 5:12SPEAKER_03: Uh, right in the next inning in the eighth inning, hit a game time two-run home run to force extra innings, where Philly ultimately won the game to force a game three on Thursday, October 1st.
- 5:26SPEAKER_03: The White Sox, they continue to swing hot bats that they were swinging coming into the playoffs.
- 5:32SPEAKER_03: They score seven runs in game two and eliminate the Astros after routing them in game one.
- 5:39SPEAKER_03: Hot bats keep swinging away for the Chicago White Sox.
- 5:43SPEAKER_03: Uh, the Padres and the Cubs game two is still actually going on.
- 5:47SPEAKER_03: The the Padres are currently up four to one.
- 5:51SPEAKER_03: Um, the Padres beat the beat the Cubs in game one.
- 5:55SPEAKER_03: So already my World Series pick of the Cubs and the Yankees is not looking great on the NL side.
- 6:02SPEAKER_03: Still some time there for the Cubs to maybe muster a comeback.
- 6:06SPEAKER_03: But after the Padres, like I said, won that first game.
- 6:10SPEAKER_03: Um, they they won it in pretty decisive fashion, um, eight to zero after winning that first game and now being down four to one with two outs in the top of the six, not looking great for the Chicago Cubs.
- 6:25SPEAKER_03: You know who it did look great for in this wild card round?
- 6:29SPEAKER_03: Well, it certainly wasn't the Boston Red Sox.
- 6:32SPEAKER_03: That's right, because the Boston Kids in game one, Cam Schlittler and Ben Rice dominate.
- 6:37SPEAKER_03: Cam Schlittler pitches 6.1 shutout innings, six and a third of dominant pitching performance from Cam Schlittler.
- 6:47SPEAKER_03: Ben Rice goes four for five with six RBIs, two home runs, including a grand slam.
- 6:53SPEAKER_03: And what does he say after the game?
- 6:55SPEAKER_03: Well, at least we saved the bullpen.
- 6:57SPEAKER_03: That guy is a team player, he is a stud.
- 7:01SPEAKER_03: What a performance in game one from the Yankees before ultimately blowing the game open again in the sixth inning in game two.
- 7:08SPEAKER_03: Uh, capped off by a Cody Bellinger three-run home run to really extend the lead to eight to two and or eight to one, excuse me, the the Red Sox did score a second run in the inning afterwards on a solo home run.
- 7:22SPEAKER_03: Um, but on a night where Cody Bellinger's dad threw out the first pitch, a former MLB player himself, Clay Bellinger.
- 7:30SPEAKER_03: Really awesome that Cody was able to put such an emphasis on the end of the series.
- 7:35SPEAKER_03: And for the second year in a row, the Yankees get the Red Sox all the way up out of here.
- 7:42SPEAKER_03: Have fun enjoying the Beach Boston Red Sox and the Yankees move on.
- 7:48SPEAKER_03: Well, coming up next, I will break down all of the biggest games from the NFL in week three, and then we will welcome in a new guest coming into the tailgate.
- 7:58SPEAKER_03: Stick around now.
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: The tailgate picks and our week four preview with our guest, we have to recap the biggest results from week three in the NFL season.
- 8:21SPEAKER_03: Uh, I'm gonna start with the Chargers and the Bills.
- 8:25SPEAKER_03: The Bills defeated the Chargers uh despite committing five turnovers.
- 8:29SPEAKER_03: And now the Chargers are 0-3 and they are staring down the barrel of a very, very long season.
- 8:37SPEAKER_03: Lot of concerns mounting for the Chargers, even for the Bills, like to have played as poorly as they did and to still come out and not only win the game, but they covered the seven and a half is atrocious if you are a chargers fan.
- 8:53SPEAKER_03: Um, the the Justin Herbert defenders are nowhere to be found.
- 8:59SPEAKER_03: It it is alarming what is going on with the Chargers, who were my AFC West pick to win that division, and it couldn't look more wrong three weeks into the season.
- 9:11SPEAKER_03: The Chiefs took on the Dolphins in Miami.
- 9:14SPEAKER_03: The Chiefs continued to find ways to win.
- 9:17SPEAKER_03: Um's went 20 of 24 here with two more touchdowns.
- 9:21SPEAKER_03: Kenneth Walker had another really good game.
- 9:23SPEAKER_03: Um, the Dolphins continued to struggle a little bit on offense, um, but there were some signs of life here despite the fact that Devon A.
- 9:31SPEAKER_03: Chain tore his ACL and is out for the season.
- 9:35SPEAKER_03: Um, Chris Bell is a receiver that I really liked coming out of Louisville that has looked very good so far in early stretches for the uh Dolphins, but nonetheless, they fall to 0-3 while the Chiefs move to 3-0.
- 9:50SPEAKER_03: Speaking of 0-3, the Texans and the Colts matched up for an 0-2 AFC West or AFC South, excuse me, showdown in Indianapolis.
- 10:01SPEAKER_03: And it came down to the wire.
- 10:02SPEAKER_03: It was a low-scoring game.
- 10:04SPEAKER_03: We actually gave out the under and the tail, the tailgate picks last week and the under cashed with only 36 points being scored in this game, and the Texans fall to 0-3.
- 10:16SPEAKER_03: And yet again, their defense lets them down.
- 10:19SPEAKER_03: They gave up a game-winning drive to the Colts at the end of the fourth quarter, similar to how they lost in week one against the Bills.
- 10:28SPEAKER_03: And time and time again, the pressure mounts on this defense because this offense is not reliable enough.
- 10:34SPEAKER_03: I know you can make excuses and say that Nico Collins has not been available for the last two games, but it does it doesn't really change much to me.
- 10:43SPEAKER_03: If one receiver changes your offense that much and it's not Jamar Chase or JSN or somebody of that ilk, I'm not buying that Nico Collins makes that big of an impact on what the Texans do.
- 10:58SPEAKER_03: Staying in the AFC South, my Jags got a dominant win over the New England Patriots, 35 to 6.
- 11:06SPEAKER_03: This game was not really in contest.
- 11:08SPEAKER_03: After about halfway through the second quarter, the Jags got up 14-3, and then it became the Drake May, maybe turnover machine.
- 11:17SPEAKER_03: Um, don't really know what to make of that right now.
- 11:21SPEAKER_03: Um, some some inexcusable fumbles.
- 11:25SPEAKER_03: I also think that the scheme that they are trying to work without AJ Brown is not um complementary to the players that they have.
- 11:33SPEAKER_03: And then on the Jag side of things, Trevor just continues to play so well.
- 11:38SPEAKER_03: Um, I just really like where this offense is that it is so multiple, they line up in so many different personnel formations with multiple tight ends, multiple running backs on the field at the same time, or even you know, multiple wide receivers spread out in empty formation.
- 11:54SPEAKER_03: It's just it's very dynamic, very hard to defend, and this defense continues to force turnovers at a high clip.
- 12:01SPEAKER_03: Very, very exciting takeaway there for my Jaguars.
- 12:05SPEAKER_03: The Ravens and the Cowboys faced off in Brazil in what was one of the more exciting games of the week.
- 12:12SPEAKER_03: The Cowboys were able to tie the game late before ultimately allowing some heroic magic to Tyler Loop and Lamar Jackson as the Ravens were able to walk off with a game-winning field goal there.
- 12:25SPEAKER_03: Um, not a lot of takeaways there on the Cowboys side of things.
- 12:29SPEAKER_03: Honestly, I I picked the Ravens in this matchup and I felt good about how their offense especially matched up against the Cowboys defense.
- 12:39SPEAKER_03: But I thought this was going to be kind of a game like this: like high scoring, back and forth, very close, could have gone either way, probably should have gone to overtime if the Cowboys safety isn't about 65 yards down the field on that second to last play that set up the field goal.
- 12:55SPEAKER_03: That being said, not super high concern right now for the Cowboys, and the Ravens continue to play well despite dropping that game against the Saints in week two.
- 13:05SPEAKER_03: Um, very, very entertaining game ultimately.
- 13:10SPEAKER_03: Another really exciting game was a matchup between the one and one Saints and the or excuse me, the two and oh Saints and the 2-0 Raiders.
- 13:20SPEAKER_03: And the Raiders are sitting at 3-0.
- 13:23SPEAKER_03: I thought this was one of the more underrated games of the week.
- 13:26SPEAKER_03: I really liked what the Saints are doing on offense.
- 13:29SPEAKER_03: I am in love with Tyler Shuck.
- 13:31SPEAKER_03: This is a Camario Taylor on college football and a Tyler Shuck podcast from this moment forward.
- 13:38SPEAKER_03: I am all in on the Saints as an offense, maybe not necessarily as a team, but this passing attack is so much fun to watch.
- 13:47SPEAKER_03: Um, but the Raiders, they continue to get good, good quarterback play out of Kirk Cousins, and they set up a big, big matchup this week between them and the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 14:00SPEAKER_03: On Sunday night football last week, the Rams and the Broncos met up.
- 14:04SPEAKER_03: The Rams jumped out to a 16 to nothing lead at Mile High Stadium at halftime.
- 14:11SPEAKER_03: All to be said, the Broncos erased that lead just in the third quarter before ultimately finishing off the comeback effort and winning 30 to 26.
- 14:22SPEAKER_03: I'm still not at the panic point with the Rams.
- 14:25SPEAKER_03: I do think that they have a tough schedule.
- 14:28SPEAKER_03: Obviously, not having Miles Garrett right now is not what you want this early on in the season.
- 14:35SPEAKER_03: But the Rams are playing the long game here.
- 14:37SPEAKER_03: Um, but the the issue is the NFL season is only so long.
- 14:41SPEAKER_03: If you continue to stack losses, it is hard to dig yourself out of that.
- 14:45SPEAKER_03: We see it year after year with teams like the Bengals, teams like the Chargers, where you just run out of weeks where you can't make up the ground and and catch up.
- 14:54SPEAKER_03: So um the Rams need to start winning games.
- 14:57SPEAKER_03: And on the Broncos side of things, they continue to be second half Warriors, they continue to play good late football and and be able to come back in some of these games.
- 15:07SPEAKER_03: Um, and ultimately a very good display from the Broncos offense in the second half there on Sunday night football.
- 15:15SPEAKER_03: The Eagles and the Bears faced off.
- 15:18SPEAKER_03: No Caleb Williams, no Tyson Bajent on Monday night football.
- 15:22SPEAKER_03: Didn't matter.
- 15:23SPEAKER_03: Case Keenum been there, done that.
- 15:26SPEAKER_03: He's one of the all-time most productive quarterbacks in college at his days at the University of Houston, and he looked like he was a slinging, running coup on Monday night.
- 15:37SPEAKER_03: He had a rushing touchdown, two more passing touchdowns, one of them to Mizzou, Tiger, Luther Burden.
- 15:44SPEAKER_03: And the Bears were able to run away with this game.
- 15:47SPEAKER_03: Um, the Eagles' offense looked terrible.
- 15:50SPEAKER_03: Um, the the alarm bells are also going off in Philadelphia, which sets up an incredibly interesting game, which we will talk about with our new guest here shortly.
- 16:01SPEAKER_03: Um, the Rams and the Eagles in Philadelphia in week four.
- 16:05SPEAKER_03: Nonetheless, an astounding result uh without Caleb Williams, without Tyson Bajent, for the Bears to be able to put that kind of win on the Eagles.
- 16:17SPEAKER_03: A few other notable results to point out the Bucks fall to 0-3 and they lose their quarterback, Baker Mayfield.
- 16:25SPEAKER_03: Um, and now the Vikings are 3-0.
- 16:28SPEAKER_03: I was pretty adamantly against the Vikings.
- 16:30SPEAKER_03: I will continue to stand by that.
- 16:32SPEAKER_03: I do not trust this team.
- 16:34SPEAKER_03: I am not a Vikings believer, but the Bucks now sit at 0-3, another team that I was um kind of banging the table against before the season, and they looked like they are in disarray.
- 16:46SPEAKER_03: Um, Todd Bowles is on the hot seat, and now their quarterback is hurt to add to it.
- 16:52SPEAKER_03: So um on the flip side of things, the 49ers, they're 3-0.
- 16:57SPEAKER_03: Um, they got by the Cardinals last week in a tough game.
- 17:00SPEAKER_03: Brock Purdy continues to play some very elite quarterback every week.
- 17:04SPEAKER_03: He threw four more touchdowns in week three, and that's a major reason the 49ers are sitting at 3-0 right now.
- 17:11SPEAKER_03: Um, the Seahawks, their their arch rival, traveled all the way across the country to take on the Washington Commanders without Jaden Daniels.
- 17:22SPEAKER_03: And Marcus Mariota said it's my time to shine, and he certainly did.
- 17:26SPEAKER_03: He played very, very well in this game.
- 17:29SPEAKER_03: Sam Darnold also played very well.
- 17:31SPEAKER_03: Um it, but ultimately the commanders were able to take this one 33 to 31 to get their first win of the season, a much needed win before they go off to London to face the Colts in week four.
- 17:45SPEAKER_03: Um, coming up next, we will have our new guest join the podcast for our week four picks and preview plus our weekly tail the tailgate segment.
- 17:57SPEAKER_03: Stick around.
- 18:09SPEAKER_03: The Tailgate Cam podcast is excited to welcome in a new guest into the Tailgate, one that I know very well.
- 18:18SPEAKER_03: I happen to live with her.
- 18:20SPEAKER_03: It's my wife.
- 18:22SPEAKER_03: She has said numerous times, I know just as much about football as you and all of your guests.
- 18:30SPEAKER_03: I want to come into the tailgate and make picks and talk about football.
- 18:34SPEAKER_03: So that's exactly what we're gonna do.
- 18:37SPEAKER_03: I just recapped all the games from week three.
- 18:40SPEAKER_03: Now, Caitlin, it is time for you to introduce yourself to the tailgate.
- 18:45SPEAKER_03: Tell the tailgate something about yourself, maybe your favorite sports team, your favorite sport to watch, or just a fun fact about you.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: I like to watch whatever sport is on one of your three TVs in our man cave.
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: Um, no, I like uh I'm a recruited Jaguars fan.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: How long have I been a Jaguars fan now?
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: Four years?
- 19:08SPEAKER_03: Your whole life since birth.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: No, I used to be a Rams fan, and then they left me, and so then I was a free agent, as I like to call it, and you recruited me to be uh Jags fan.
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: Um, but other than that, still a St.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: Louis Blues fan, St.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: Louis Cardinals fan, St.
- 19:27SPEAKER_01: Louis Battlehawks fan.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: That's been fun.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: Um what else?
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: I don't I love all the sports, all all the camp sports.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: Since you since you started this podcast, we've talked a lot less about sports because you you have this outlet now.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: So that's why I wanted that's that's why I wanted to be on the podcast.
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: I was having FOMO from all your sports talk.
- 19:50SPEAKER_03: Well, we're gonna get some now.
- 19:52SPEAKER_03: We're gonna get into NFL week four.
- 19:55SPEAKER_03: Uh, we're gonna start off with the Thursday night game, which features an AFC North clash between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns.
- 20:04SPEAKER_03: We just gotta start with the elephant in the room.
- 20:07SPEAKER_03: If you had to be a fan of one of these two quarterbacks, conspiracy anti-vax, Aaron Rodgers, or Deshaun Watson and everything that he does.
- 20:20SPEAKER_03: Who would you who would you go with?
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: Shidori Sanders.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: I would pick the backup quarterback.
- 20:29SPEAKER_03: I guess so.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: I don't think I'm not picking either of them.
- 20:33SPEAKER_03: Well, that's fair.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm for sure not picking Shawn Watson.
- 20:36SPEAKER_03: So we saw the Browns together in person in week one.
- 20:41SPEAKER_03: Um what were your thoughts about them that day?
- 20:43SPEAKER_03: Obviously, they didn't play very well, but they've won both of their games since they left Jacksonville.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: Um I think that they didn't look super great, but um they obviously look good enough, I guess, to win two more games after that, so they're not terrible.
- 21:01SPEAKER_03: The Steelers, they they are coming off a pretty big upset win over the Bengals, and obviously the Browns, like we just said, they're two and oh since leaving Jacksonville.
- 21:11SPEAKER_03: They won on a late touchdown versus Carolina.
- 21:15SPEAKER_03: Who is somebody that you pay attention to between the Steelers and the Browns?
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: That's a great question.
- 21:25SPEAKER_01: Um I don't I don't know.
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: I don't have anybody on either of those teams, I think, on my fantasy football.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: And that's where I really pay attention to individual players.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: That's fair.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because I wasn't drafting any of their players, I don't think, because they're not very good.
- 21:44unknown: Yeah.
- 21:48SPEAKER_03: Well, Pittsburgh is able to get two and a half points on the betting lines heading into this game, even though they're traveling to Cleveland.
- 21:56SPEAKER_03: The total is pretty low, which does reflect a little bit of what.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: You're saying that maybe these aren't the most exciting teams to watch, especially on a Thursday night short week primetime game, the total is set at 38 and a half.
- 22:11SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna take the Browns.
- 22:12SPEAKER_03: I honestly I feel like they they have more that I like on their team, a lot more compared to the Steelers.
- 22:20SPEAKER_03: I like Denzel Boston, I like Quinshawn Judkins, Harold Fannon.
- 22:24SPEAKER_03: I mean, for a first or second year running back wide receiver tight end combination, that's pretty good.
- 22:32SPEAKER_03: And Deshaun Watson, for all the hoopla about those weird comments he made in the preseason, he's actually been away game.
- 22:43SPEAKER_03: He's been pretty good since he left Jacksonville, and they are obviously 2-0 in large part because of him.
- 22:50SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna take the Browns at home.
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm gonna take the Steelers because I don't like Deshaun Watson.
- 22:59SPEAKER_03: That is a fair reason to pick against the Browns.
- 23:02SPEAKER_03: So I'm on the Browns.
- 23:04SPEAKER_01: Sometimes my picks today will be, you know, based off what I really think is gonna happen if I was pacing like a bet, you know, whatever.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: And then some of my picks today will just be personal choices, and this is one of them.
- 23:17SPEAKER_03: If you talk to a real gambler, they will tell you that every bet is a personal choice.
- 23:22SPEAKER_03: So uh as Cal she says on all their ads, if you want to sponsor the Tailgate podcast, Cal she uh they are not responsible for predictions and risk associated with prediction markets.
- 23:34SPEAKER_03: So you're the tailgate camp podcast is not responsible for your picks and responsibility with Caitlin's picks that you want to tail.
- 23:42SPEAKER_03: So you are on the Steelers, I am on the Browns.
- 23:45SPEAKER_03: The next game we are going to discuss is the Rams and the Eagles.
- 23:50SPEAKER_03: Both teams coming off pretty heartbreaking losses.
- 23:54SPEAKER_03: The Eagles couldn't slow down 38-year-old Case Keenum, the Rams couldn't slow, the Rams couldn't slow down Bo Knicks, and the big thing here is Puka seemingly it's also not going to play for the third straight game, um, hasn't really slowed down Devontae Adams.
- 24:10SPEAKER_03: He's currently third in the NFL with 358 receiving yards.
- 24:15SPEAKER_03: My question here: the Rams were the Super Bowl favorites heading into the season.
- 24:19SPEAKER_03: They got Miles Garrett in the offseason, they were one of the best teams in the NFL last year.
- 24:26SPEAKER_03: The Eagles, uh, with all of their locker room drama, jettisoning AJ Brown away to the Patriots in the offseason and all of the Jalen Hurts, Nick Siriani drama that always seems to follow that team.
- 24:42SPEAKER_03: From your eyes, which of these two teams is under more pressure to win this season?
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: Um, probably the Rams.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: Just because I feel like there's a lot of hype around Sean McVeigh's coach and a lot of those players.
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: Shout out to Devontae Adams, who is on my fantasy football league and is killing it.
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: Uh I just think around them, um, also I have friends, I guess, or family that are Rams fans and they have high pressure on them to win.
- 25:14SPEAKER_01: Um, and I feel like the Eagles won the Super Bowl recently enough.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: If you're an Eagles fan, you gotta just let up on them a little bit.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 25:21SPEAKER_03: That's fair.
- 25:23SPEAKER_01: Um But every year everybody wants to win.
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: So I don't, you know, what do I know?
- 25:27SPEAKER_03: That is also fair.
- 25:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think it's pretty close.
- 25:31SPEAKER_03: Um, I would say like from a season-long perspective, it's probably the Rams, but I think their their fans, for the most part, understand that they are playing the long game.
- 25:41SPEAKER_03: You know, like they'll wait until the end of the season to see how the playoffs shake out.
- 25:46SPEAKER_03: I think from a week-to-week perspective, the the Eagles are one of the most scrutinized teams in the NFL right now.
- 25:54SPEAKER_03: Um and especially after they just let a 38-year-old that's been retired beat them on Monday night football.
- 26:00SPEAKER_03: Never good.
- 26:03SPEAKER_03: It was extremely entertaining, including uh Case Keenum's post-game video where he he was in the locker room and he was like addressing the team after Ben Johnson gave him the game ball, and he goes, Well, I may not be a cowboy, but I know how to play in a fucking rodeo, and it was awesome.
- 26:22SPEAKER_03: So I'm I'm here for Case Keenum.
- 26:25SPEAKER_03: But that being said, I am gonna pick the Eagles.
- 26:28SPEAKER_03: I think that this is like the most classic bounce back spot for the Eagles.
- 26:33SPEAKER_03: Um, when everybody starts to write them off to their highest degree, is usually when they play their best.
- 26:39SPEAKER_03: Um, they are three-point home underdogs.
- 26:42SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna take the Eagles.
- 26:43SPEAKER_03: What about you?
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: Um, well, like you said, uh they bounce back when they're being written off to the highest degree.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: I think when we were watching this game, I said, Do you remember like whatever it was two years ago when they were like, we're gonna fire Nick Seriani next week, and then they won the Super Bowl?
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: So makes sense.
- 27:00SPEAKER_01: Um, I'll be picking the Eagles though, because the Rams left me and I hate Stan Cronky.
- 27:05SPEAKER_01: So another person's being made.
- 27:08SPEAKER_03: As much as I said that the Rams fans are patient, I will say and add to that, some extra context.
- 27:14SPEAKER_03: If they lose this game, which we are both picking the Eagles, and they are one and three after four games, the noise might get pretty loud over there.
- 27:23SPEAKER_03: So uh will be a big game to watch.
- 27:26SPEAKER_03: Um, another game, local matchup between two teams that occupy the state of Texas together, the Cowboys and the Texans, but they both gave up late field goals to lose in week three.
- 27:37SPEAKER_03: The Texans giving up a late field goal to the Colts and the Cowboys a late miraculous field goal to the Ravens.
- 27:44SPEAKER_03: The Texans continue to not be able to run the ball or slow down any opponent's passing attack, and the Texans teams have combined for just one win so far this season.
- 27:55SPEAKER_03: They say everything's bigger in Texas.
- 27:57SPEAKER_03: So in this matchup, who do you feel like shows up bigger?
- 28:01SPEAKER_03: The Texans defense that everybody says is the best, or the Cowboys offense that everybody loves in fantasy?
- 28:09SPEAKER_01: I think that the Texans defense is overrated.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: So uh, and I also think that the Cowboys it was I was watching that game.
- 28:19SPEAKER_01: The the I I don't know, I thought it was going to overtime, and then I looked back and the game was over and it was embarrassing.
- 28:26SPEAKER_01: And I was very confused.
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: Um, so I don't think they'll let that happen again.
- 28:31SPEAKER_01: Um so I don't know.
- 28:34SPEAKER_01: I think the Cowboys have have a better offense too, and the the Texans defense is weak, so that's that's my hot take.
- 28:44SPEAKER_03: I'm also gonna pick the Cowboys here.
- 28:47SPEAKER_03: Um, this is probably like the by lowest of low spots on the Texans.
- 28:53SPEAKER_03: They are 0-3.
- 28:54SPEAKER_03: They should be playing with the utmost desperation.
- 28:58SPEAKER_03: I just don't think that they're better than the Cowboys, so I'm just gonna pick the Cowboys and roll with that.
- 29:04SPEAKER_03: Um, so we are both on the Cowboys, and now it is time to pick.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: Also, my personal choice for picking the Cowboys is that uh shout out to Brandon.
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: I'll pick his team also because I'm very heavily rooting against the Cubs in the World Series, and I feel bad about that because he loves the Cubs, but I hate them.
- 29:22SPEAKER_03: Well, by the time this episode comes out, the Cubs may or may not still be alive in the MLB playoffs, so we will see.
- 29:31SPEAKER_03: Uh moving over to a team that both of us know very well, the Jaguars travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals 1 p.m.
- 29:40SPEAKER_03: Eastern time on Sunday.
- 29:42SPEAKER_03: The Bengals are two and a half point home favorites, short favorites, and the total is set at 51 and a half.
- 29:49SPEAKER_03: The Jaguars five straight games away from Everbank Stadium as they are about to play two games in London after this Bengals matchup.
- 30:00SPEAKER_03: Honestly, I just continue to be so impressed by Trevor Lawrence every single week.
- 30:04SPEAKER_03: It feels like there's three or four plays every game that he's making some of the best throws of the whole week.
- 30:11SPEAKER_03: And it's just starting to get taken for granted, which is usually when a guy has really taken a step up.
- 30:17SPEAKER_03: Um the Bengals and the Jaguars, though, they're both cats.
- 30:21SPEAKER_03: This is a feline matchup.
- 30:24SPEAKER_03: So my question to you who are the coolest cats on the Bengals and the Jaguars?
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: This is this is a great this is great investigative journalism that you're doing here.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: Um the coolest cat on the Bengals is probably Jamar Chase, because he's pretty sweet.
- 30:42SPEAKER_02: He is pretty sweet.
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: And then the coolest cat on the Jaguars.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: Probably the man on your shirt, Parker Washington.
- 30:49SPEAKER_01: He's doing it.
- 30:50SPEAKER_03: Parker Washington!
- 30:52SPEAKER_01: I hope he gets his bag soon.
- 30:53SPEAKER_01: Every week that goes by, he's just racking up how much money we're gonna have to pay him.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: Um pretty much.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: I think that you know, the Jags, they're our team, they're doing really good this year.
- 31:04SPEAKER_01: I think they're about to go on a hot streak of being good Road Warriors.
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: I don't think away games scare them.
- 31:11SPEAKER_01: Um, but I do love a home game.
- 31:13SPEAKER_01: And I think there's a reason that what is it, the spread is two and a half points, and it's such a high, you know, the over is what 51 and a half?
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: It's not gonna be a high scoring game, high volume.
- 31:24SPEAKER_01: Maybe we'll score all 50 points, you know.
- 31:26SPEAKER_01: I don't know, but we're doing pretty good.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: And I think that the the Jags are gonna run away with it.
- 31:33SPEAKER_03: Oh, so you're taking the Jags?
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, obviously, and uh start a hot streak.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: But that you know what, that's objective.
- 31:40SPEAKER_01: That is has no personal actually um in it.
- 31:44SPEAKER_03: And I really cam podcast.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: No bias.
- 31:49SPEAKER_03: I I am also actually taking the Jaguars.
- 31:52SPEAKER_03: Um, I I think one, when you think about how you one of the most important things you have to look at look at when you look at who is going to win a game is how the end of the last week went.
- 32:03SPEAKER_03: And the Bengals were in a very close, very competitive division rivalry game that they lost to the Steelers.
- 32:09SPEAKER_03: Meanwhile, the Jags didn't even play their starters in most of the fourth quarter against the Patriots because they were up by so much, and that does really matter.
- 32:18SPEAKER_03: Um, both teams um also come into this game.
- 32:21SPEAKER_03: The Bengals have some issues on their secondary.
- 32:24SPEAKER_03: The Jaguars have um had some issues with their pass defense so far this year, specifically against the Broncos in the second half of that game.
- 32:33SPEAKER_03: Um, but I I just think that the Jaguars are harder for the Bengals to defend than the Bengals are for the Jaguars to defend.
- 32:41SPEAKER_03: And from that perspective, I just trust Trevor.
- 32:44SPEAKER_03: Um historically, though, the Joe Burrow Trevor Lawrence matchups have not gone in Trevor's favor, um, even dating back to college when Joe was at LSU and Trevor was at Clemson.
- 32:56SPEAKER_03: But I think Trevor finally has gotten to the point where he can really exact some of these demons from early on in his career.
- 33:05SPEAKER_03: I'm also taking the Jags here.
- 33:07SPEAKER_01: So that takes us to the Well, I think Trevor's being well coached now, too.
- 33:12SPEAKER_01: Is that he's matured, he's in whatever year we're in.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: Dad mode.
- 33:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's in dad mode.
- 33:19SPEAKER_01: He's about to go on the road before his little baby is born.
- 33:23SPEAKER_01: He's doing great.
- 33:24SPEAKER_01: And I just think, yeah, having good coaches behind him too has really been a difference maker.
- 33:29SPEAKER_01: So he's ready.
- 33:32SPEAKER_03: That takes us to the team that the Jaguars just defeated last week, the New England Patriots, who now travel up to upstate New York to take on the Bills in high mark stadium, where the Bills are six and a half point favorites and the total is set at 48.5.
- 33:48SPEAKER_03: A very important AFC East game as the Bills are 3-0, and the rest of the AFC East has one or zero wins.
- 33:56SPEAKER_03: So this is really an opportunity where the Bills can either stamp down this division or the Patriots can really claw their way back in it very quickly.
- 34:05SPEAKER_03: Um, Drake May has just one touchdown through three games this year and six interceptions.
- 34:12SPEAKER_03: When we saw the Patriots on Sunday, what did you feel like their biggest issue was?
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: They had a lot of issues.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 34:22SPEAKER_01: He couldn't make anything happen.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: His I don't think his offensive line was helping him out really either.
- 34:28SPEAKER_01: Um but he just he didn't he didn't look confident.
- 34:33SPEAKER_01: I don't know, and it really stinks because he's my fantasy football quarterback in one of my leagues, and he ended the game with 0.7 points, so I'm not a fan of Drake May right now.
- 34:44SPEAKER_01: Um but it was fun seeing Tommy DeVito in the fourth quarter.
- 34:50SPEAKER_01: We did see the Italian DeVito and it was cracking everybody up around us.
- 34:54SPEAKER_03: We we did see the Italian stallion, Tommy DeVito, take the role.
- 34:58SPEAKER_01: I was here for all the all the hype when he was on was it the Giants and he was doing the whole hometown New York.
- 35:05SPEAKER_01: Oh, that was great.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: So when we were sitting there and I was like, is that DeVito?
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: And you were like, Oh, it's Danny DeVito playing.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: This is amazing.
- 35:13SPEAKER_01: People thought you were messing around, you're like, Oh no, I just couldn't remember his name.
- 35:16SPEAKER_01: Oops.
- 35:17SPEAKER_01: Um that is awesome.
- 35:19SPEAKER_01: But yeah, the Patriots didn't look very good.
- 35:21SPEAKER_01: I don't, I'm not buying much stock in the Patriots right now.
- 35:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:26SPEAKER_03: This I do think that the Patriots have the ability to kind of muck this game up and make this much closer than the experts will anticipate.
- 35:36SPEAKER_03: Uh ultimately, I am still gonna pick the Bills, really, just because they're at home in this situation.
- 35:42SPEAKER_03: Um, and they kind of got the stink out of them last week, having five turnovers and still beating the Chargers, who are now 0-3.
- 35:50SPEAKER_03: Um, but I'm gonna pick the Bills.
- 35:52SPEAKER_03: Are you on the Bills or the Patriots?
- 35:55SPEAKER_01: I am on the Bills.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 35:57SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 35:57SPEAKER_03: So, and blue team.
- 36:00SPEAKER_03: That then takes us to an AFC West matchup between two 3-0 rivals.
- 36:06SPEAKER_03: The Kansas City Chiefs travel out to Vegas for a 425 Eastern kickoff.
- 36:12SPEAKER_03: The Chiefs are four and a half point road favorites.
- 36:15SPEAKER_03: The total is set at 47 and a half.
- 36:18SPEAKER_03: Honestly, both of these quarterbacks have been very good to start this season.
- 36:22SPEAKER_03: Um, obviously, that tends to be the case when you're three-0, but Kirk Cousins has nine passing touchdowns.
- 36:28SPEAKER_03: Um, Patrick Mahomes has seven already early on in the season.
- 36:32SPEAKER_03: And the Chiefs also have the leading rusher in the NFL and Kenneth Walker, the third.
- 36:37SPEAKER_03: He already has 360 rushing yards.
- 36:40SPEAKER_03: And Brock Bowers made his return last week to the Raiders lineup.
- 36:44SPEAKER_03: He had 10 catches for 116 yards and a touchdown fresh off of the injury report.
- 36:51SPEAKER_03: My question here: does being a Taylor Swift fan make you root for the Chiefs and Travis Kelsey?
- 36:57SPEAKER_01: Um, no, I don't think so, but I do like Taylor Swift, and I like that she goes to the games and she's hyped up about it and she wears her cute merch and all that stuff, but I don't think it makes me like want to bandwagon as a Chiefs fan.
- 37:12SPEAKER_03: When she's like holding up her wedding ring and she's like, that's and are you like yes, that is her husband.
- 37:20SPEAKER_03: I love him, or you don't care.
- 37:24SPEAKER_01: Um I I I don't know, I like it.
- 37:27SPEAKER_01: Like, I think it's fun, but it doesn't make me be like wanting to, I don't know, draft Travis Kelsey in my fantasy football league.
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: Does that make sense?
- 37:36SPEAKER_03: Yes, it does.
- 37:37SPEAKER_01: I think I I think he's you know at the tail end of his career.
- 37:41SPEAKER_01: I thought he was gonna retire like three years ago, so I don't know.
- 37:47SPEAKER_03: On the field, these two teams match up in a in a pretty interesting way.
- 37:51SPEAKER_03: New head coach Clint Kubiak on the Raiders side versus longtime Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.
- 37:58SPEAKER_03: In this situation, though, on the road, after the Chiefs have played so well, and this is a lot of travel, the Chiefs were just in Miami on Sunday, and now they're going all the way back to the West Coast to play in Vegas.
- 38:10SPEAKER_03: I like the Raiders in this spot, which is insane to say, but I think the Raiders actually have been playing some pretty good football.
- 38:18SPEAKER_03: I like their head coach a lot, and I think Kirk Cousins, as long as their offensive line continues to play as well as they have, and they have Brock Bowers back now, I'm gonna take the Raiders here.
- 38:31SPEAKER_03: Who do you have?
- 38:32SPEAKER_01: Um Brock Bowers is is pretty strong.
- 38:36SPEAKER_01: Our cat and dog, by the way, fighting in the background.
- 38:39SPEAKER_01: So sorry if you can hear that.
- 38:40SPEAKER_01: Um uh you never know.
- 38:44SPEAKER_01: Um I pick the Chiefs just because they usually find a way to win.
- 38:48SPEAKER_01: And if the Raiders beat the Chiefs, that'd be pretty crazy.
- 38:51SPEAKER_01: And I don't know how they're 3-0.
- 38:53SPEAKER_01: Um I'm still wondering why Fernando Mendoz is not playing and they picked it.
- 38:58SPEAKER_01: I I know I know over the whatever three weeks Kirk Hudson has performed well.
- 39:03SPEAKER_01: I'm just confused why they didn't start him.
- 39:08SPEAKER_01: You want to mansplain that to me?
- 39:10SPEAKER_03: Well, I think and I think initially the the when this kind of situation happens, typically there's a short, short leash that is given to the aging veteran.
- 39:23SPEAKER_03: Um, in most cases, like two to maybe on the very long extent of it.
- 39:28SPEAKER_03: Like when the Jaguars drafted Blake Bortles, I think he came in for Chad Henney after like eight or nine games, or not Blake Bortles, Blaine Gabbard, like eight or nine games into the season.
- 39:39SPEAKER_03: Um, so that's kind of like on the long extent of it.
- 39:42SPEAKER_03: But the fact that they're playing well, there's really no you can't keep the rest of their team motivated by taking out the guy that's playing well.
- 39:50SPEAKER_01: So no, I know, yeah.
- 39:52SPEAKER_01: I'm not saying they should do that.
- 39:53SPEAKER_03: I'm saying they're they're committed to Kirk Cousins right now until there's several consecutive weeks of bad football that happen.
- 40:02SPEAKER_03: Kirk Cousins is the quarterback and he's been good.
- 40:04SPEAKER_03: So, like, I don't I don't really know where the change comes from until maybe next year, um, which obviously is going to shock people if that continues to happen.
- 40:15SPEAKER_03: But I also don't think that Kirk Cousins is gonna keep this up the whole season.
- 40:19SPEAKER_00: So Yeah.
- 40:20SPEAKER_03: That's that's the other part of it.
- 40:21SPEAKER_03: So you are start.
- 40:23SPEAKER_03: You are on the Chiefs, though.
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, just because they always they always they always they find a way to win.
- 40:29SPEAKER_01: They don't often lose.
- 40:30SPEAKER_01: And I think I don't know.
- 40:34SPEAKER_03: They just they definitely don't often lose AFC West games, especially when Mahomes is playing.
- 40:40SPEAKER_03: But I I just think times are changing.
- 40:43SPEAKER_03: Times are changing.
- 40:45SPEAKER_03: Um, speaking of the AFC West and a team that the Jags just played a couple weeks ago, the Denver Broncos fresh off their comeback, their second straight comeback, beating the LA Rams.
- 40:57SPEAKER_03: They now travel to a different NFC West Fo in San Francisco for a 425 Eastern kickoff.
- 41:03SPEAKER_03: The 49ers are three-point home favorites.
- 41:07SPEAKER_03: The total is set at 47 and a half, two very good defenses, two very good offensive-minded head coaches and Kyle Shanahan and Sean Payton.
- 41:17SPEAKER_03: Um, but great defensive coordinators, Raheem Morris, Vance Joseph on the Broncos side.
- 41:22SPEAKER_03: Um, the really interesting matchup here for a lot of reasons.
- 41:26SPEAKER_03: Two quarterbacks that kind of get joked about a lot between Brock Purdy and Bo Nicks.
- 41:31SPEAKER_03: Um, I have two questions about this game.
- 41:35SPEAKER_03: Is it time to retire the Brock Purdy jokes?
- 41:41SPEAKER_00: I mean maybe.
- 41:45SPEAKER_00: What do you think?
- 41:46SPEAKER_00: Do you think so?
- 41:47SPEAKER_03: I think I think the way that he's played so far this year, it's just it's been long enough that we've seen him play at a high level that I don't think that he's like in danger of suddenly falling off a cliff.
- 42:04SPEAKER_03: I I just think that he's a very good quarterback.
- 42:07SPEAKER_03: I wouldn't say that he's a system quarterback, as as uh who called him that?
- 42:13SPEAKER_03: I do think he's a system quarterback, but I think that could be said for a lot of people.
- 42:17SPEAKER_03: Right now, I would say the same thing about Trevor Lawrence.
- 42:19SPEAKER_03: Like, look at the difference between Trevor with Liam Cohen and tr and Baker Mayfield without Liam Cohen.
- 42:26SPEAKER_03: I mean, Baker Mayfield's been terrible since Liam Cohen left Tampa Bay.
- 42:30SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think to some extent, like with I think that Trevor's talented and thrives better under good leadership and good people around him.
- 42:40SPEAKER_03: Sounds like a system quarterback.
- 42:42SPEAKER_01: That's not what that means.
- 42:45SPEAKER_01: And then I think a system quarterback, perhaps like Brock Purdy, is good only good if he's set up for success with good people around him and whatever, but he's not like a standout star making stuff happen.
- 43:03SPEAKER_03: Hmm.
- 43:04SPEAKER_03: Interesting.
- 43:05SPEAKER_03: The other side of this is the Bonex debate.
- 43:08SPEAKER_03: And do you feel like we obviously watched the Broncos beat our Jags last weekend?
- 43:14SPEAKER_03: Do you feel like the Broncos obviously their defense is spectacular?
- 43:18SPEAKER_03: They played really, really well against the Jags in that second half.
- 43:22SPEAKER_03: Do you feel like the Broncos have what it takes on offense to win a Super Bowl?
- 43:28SPEAKER_01: No.
- 43:29SPEAKER_03: Cut and dry.
- 43:31SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 43:32SPEAKER_03: Uh that being said, we have to pick a winner for this very interesting game.
- 43:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'm gonna take the Broncos to get a win on the road.
- 43:40SPEAKER_03: I like what their defense can do, I like their secondary matching up against the 49ers in this spot.
- 43:47SPEAKER_03: And I also just think that there's some letdown here for the 49ers.
- 43:51SPEAKER_03: They've they're three and oh, and I like the Broncos here in this spot on the road.
- 43:56SPEAKER_03: Who do you have?
- 43:58SPEAKER_01: Um, the 49ers because I Mad at the Broncos for beating us.
- 44:02SPEAKER_03: Also, fair reasoning.
- 44:04SPEAKER_03: Um, and that takes us to our last game that we will break down in detail.
- 44:08SPEAKER_03: The Lions traveled to Carolina to take on the Panthers for Sunday night football.
- 44:13SPEAKER_03: Well, as soon as I saw that this was Sunday night football, I had to go back and look this up.
- 44:19SPEAKER_03: The last time the Panthers hosted a Sunday night football game was December 4th, 2016.
- 44:28unknown: Wow.
- 44:29SPEAKER_03: 10 years.
- 44:30SPEAKER_03: I knew it had to have been a while.
- 44:32SPEAKER_03: I didn't realize it was that long, but their last time they hosted a game on Sunday night football, Cam Newton was their quarterback.
- 44:41SPEAKER_03: And that is crazy to me because they've had several quarterbacks since then.
- 44:46SPEAKER_03: Um what is the best thing about an NFL night game?
- 44:53SPEAKER_01: Um when you're there in person, not a lot because there's a lot of TV breaks and you get tired.
- 45:01SPEAKER_01: That comes from me.
- 45:02SPEAKER_01: I'm old.
- 45:02SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 45:03SPEAKER_01: And when you're watching it at home, it's great because there's no other games on.
- 45:07SPEAKER_01: You can watch, you know, your game, go get a snack.
- 45:11SPEAKER_01: You're not like, I gotta be worried that I'm gonna miss something else in one of these other games.
- 45:16SPEAKER_01: Um nighttime vibes are high.
- 45:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't know.
- 45:21SPEAKER_01: I love in a good night game.
- 45:23SPEAKER_01: This is also when I'm watching it from my TV.
- 45:26SPEAKER_03: So you're not a fan of in-person late nights, so I don't know.
- 45:31SPEAKER_01: We went to what what we went to a Monday night game, the Chiefs Jags Monday night game last year.
- 45:36SPEAKER_01: Well, the game was awesome, like the game was incredible, the game was awesome, yeah.
- 45:39SPEAKER_01: Like vibes were high, and it was cool knowing that, like, oh, everybody's watching this game that we're at and we're rocking it.
- 45:46SPEAKER_03: But it sounds like you're convincing yourself.
- 45:49SPEAKER_01: It was so I was so tired at the end of the game.
- 45:52SPEAKER_01: I was like, I just want to go home.
- 45:54SPEAKER_03: It sounds like you're convincing yourself that night games are the supreme venue for a football game.
- 46:00SPEAKER_01: It's not as hot, it's great.
- 46:02SPEAKER_01: We did go to that Chiefs, was it a Sunday night game?
- 46:05SPEAKER_01: Um at Arrowhead, yeah, and uh, you know, tailgating's elite there at Arrowhead.
- 46:11SPEAKER_01: That was pretty fun.
- 46:12SPEAKER_01: I had a great time.
- 46:14SPEAKER_03: My last question about this while we are talking about the second feline feud of the weekend.
- 46:21SPEAKER_03: The first being the Jags and the Bengals.
- 46:23SPEAKER_03: This is now the Lions and the Panthers.
- 46:26SPEAKER_03: Do you think that there's any way that Jameer Gibbs could be considered underrated?
- 46:32SPEAKER_01: Um, I don't know if I'm the best person to answer this question because like I usually hear like headline stuff, you know, I'm not as in depth with conversations about everything.
- 46:44SPEAKER_01: So it seems to me like he perhaps I'm I'm not gonna call him overrated, but I feel like he's talked about a lot.
- 46:50SPEAKER_01: Like he's the first pick of everyone's fantasy football drafts.
- 46:53SPEAKER_03: He was the first pick of the draft.
- 46:56SPEAKER_01: I think I picked him, he's doing great.
- 46:58SPEAKER_01: He got like 40 something points the other whenever that was.
- 47:01SPEAKER_03: He's been tremendous to start the season.
- 47:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, my reasoning for asking is because I don't think that people give him the credit for how good he is as a receiver, as much as he really is.
- 47:13SPEAKER_03: Not it, and it's not even just like he's getting dump off passes out of the backfield, they line him up at receiver and he beats NFL defensive backs as a running back, which there's not that many that happens all the time in college.
- 47:26SPEAKER_03: Not that many NFL running backs can do that.
- 47:29SPEAKER_03: Um, so I do think there is like a little bit of an argument to be made that he doesn't even get all the respect he deserves.
- 47:35SPEAKER_03: He's so elite and dynamic.
- 47:37SPEAKER_03: That being said, I'm taking the Lions on the road.
- 47:40SPEAKER_03: I don't, I am not a fan of this Panthers team other than Devin Lloyd.
- 47:45SPEAKER_03: Shout out to Devin Lloyd.
- 47:47SPEAKER_03: Um, I am picking the Detroit Lions to get a road win, and as they are road favorites in this game, who do you have?
- 47:56SPEAKER_01: Um, the Lions, because go Jameer Kipps, and I need him to score another 40 points.
- 48:02SPEAKER_03: There you go.
- 48:03SPEAKER_01: Well, I wait, one more question though, about him being underrated.
- 48:06SPEAKER_01: Do you feel like that's because last year he was like a running back duo with Montgomery and they would like take turns, and they both got a lot of credit for what are people calling them?
- 48:16SPEAKER_01: Sonic and um Sonic and Knuckles.
- 48:19SPEAKER_01: Knuckles.
- 48:20SPEAKER_01: Like, do you think that could be I think that's probably part of it?
- 48:24SPEAKER_01: And now he's not and now Montgomery's not there, so it's kind of like, oh, is this guy as good as I mean, I do, I think he's great, but I think some of that was like kind of already baked into like the expectation this year.
- 48:35SPEAKER_03: That's why he was the first pick in most fantasy drafts.
- 48:38SPEAKER_03: Um, I just mean like the way that people like think about him as a player, like they think about him as like an explosive running back, and they don't even really consider all the things that he is great at.
- 48:49SPEAKER_03: Um that I think could make him be underrated.
- 48:53SPEAKER_03: So that being said, now we are going to go through the rest of the other eight games uh in kind of ping-pong style.
- 49:00SPEAKER_03: So first up, the Colts go to London to face the Washington Commanders and Marcus Maragota.
- 49:08SPEAKER_03: I did see a video that Jaden Daniels has a brace on his left arm and didn't practice yesterday, but they didn't rule him out for the game yet, which is wild to me.
- 49:19SPEAKER_03: Um, the Colts are three and a half point favorites.
- 49:22SPEAKER_03: Sadly, I am taking the Colts here.
- 49:24SPEAKER_03: Who are you taking?
- 49:26SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm taking the the Commanders because um Go Mariota loved that for him, and uh your family really likes the commander, so shout out to Josh and um granddad.
- 49:39SPEAKER_01: And also we can't root for the Colts because that's just wrong.
- 49:44SPEAKER_03: That's very fair.
- 49:45SPEAKER_03: I never said I was rooting for the Colts, but I am picking them to win the Oh, this is another uh, you know, personal choice.
- 49:51SPEAKER_03: Objective versus subjective.
- 49:53SPEAKER_01: Um I like to be subjective or whatever.
- 49:56SPEAKER_03: The Jets traveled to Chicago to probably take on Tyson Bajent and uh the Chicago Bears.
- 50:04SPEAKER_03: We got our fun with Case Keenum on Monday night.
- 50:07SPEAKER_03: I have been on the Jets as a live dog all season.
- 50:10SPEAKER_03: I'm taking the Jets.
- 50:12SPEAKER_03: Who do you got?
- 50:14SPEAKER_01: Um the Bears, because I have uh uh Luther Burnham and Colson Loveland on my team.
- 50:19SPEAKER_01: And I had Caleb Williams, so I'm gonna need those two receivers to uh receive the ball.
- 50:25SPEAKER_03: The Cardinals travel to New York to take on the Giants with the second game with Jameis Winston.
- 50:31SPEAKER_03: Um, they also just acquired JJ McCarthy from the Minnesota Vikings.
- 50:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 50:36SPEAKER_03: Um the memes about that have been hilarious that Cam Scataboo can't recognize the difference between the two of them.
- 50:43SPEAKER_01: I saw this really funny skit with that guy from uh what was that show we watched where they didn't know where they were in the world?
- 50:50SPEAKER_01: Uh the X Destination X.
- 50:53SPEAKER_01: There was that guy on there that does like sports betting sports skits.
- 50:58SPEAKER_01: What was his name?
- 50:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he was funny.
- 51:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 51:01SPEAKER_01: I saw one by him today where yeah, he was Cam, he made Cam Scattaboot eat a crayon and was like, he was like, Jackson?
- 51:08SPEAKER_01: And he's like, No, I'm JJ.
- 51:10SPEAKER_01: It was really funny.
- 51:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 51:11SPEAKER_03: I'm taking the Cardinals here.
- 51:13SPEAKER_03: I again I've kind of banged the drum on this all all season that the Cardinals are more live dogs than people want to give them credit for.
- 51:21SPEAKER_03: They obviously beat the Chargers, they covered against the 49ers.
- 51:25SPEAKER_03: I like the Cardinals here.
- 51:26SPEAKER_03: Who do you have?
- 51:27SPEAKER_01: Um, the Cardinals.
- 51:30SPEAKER_03: That takes us to the 0-3 Baker Mayfield Les Buccaneers, um, who are going to be starting rookie quarterback out of uh lowercase K Kansas University, um, Jalen Daniels, um, against the one and two, fresh off of an embarrassing loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night football last week, the Green Bay Packers.
- 51:54SPEAKER_03: The Packers are three and a half point road favorites.
- 51:57SPEAKER_03: Don't think it matters.
- 51:58SPEAKER_03: I am taking the Packers for sure.
- 52:03SPEAKER_01: Um, I don't think I realized that Baker Mayfield was hurt.
- 52:06SPEAKER_01: Did he hurt his shoulder?
- 52:08SPEAKER_03: I feel like I uh it was either his shoulder or his arm.
- 52:11SPEAKER_01: I remember him walking off.
- 52:14SPEAKER_01: Didn't realize he was actually hurt, so that stinks.
- 52:17SPEAKER_01: But I did pick the bucks.
- 52:18SPEAKER_01: Now maybe thinking about that, but yeah, stick with your gut.
- 52:24SPEAKER_03: So you're on the bucks.
- 52:25SPEAKER_01: I like Baker Mayfield, that's why I picked the buttons.
- 52:26SPEAKER_01: That was my personal choice.
- 52:28SPEAKER_03: But so you're on the bucks.
- 52:33SPEAKER_03: Uh that takes us to the 0-3 Titans that are traveling to Baltimore, where the Ravens are 11 and a half point favorites.
- 52:42SPEAKER_03: I'm taking the Ravens.
- 52:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the Titans, the Titans stink, they're so bad.
- 52:48SPEAKER_03: And some of the things that I keep saying that Robert Sala says about Cam Ward are just like alarm bell, alarm bell, alarm bell.
- 52:57SPEAKER_03: Like, this is all bad.
- 52:59SPEAKER_03: It's just it reminds me so much of, and I know I hate the Titans, but I'm getting to the point where I don't even think about them anymore because like they're so irrelevant.
- 53:11SPEAKER_03: It reminds me so much of the Jaguars from like 2012 until like 2016 when it was just everything was bad, like that we didn't have good anything, and that's how it feels like it's going for them right now.
- 53:25SPEAKER_03: They are constantly non-competitive, and if they do win a game, it's like the other team has to play as bad as possible.
- 53:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'm all over the Ravens here.
- 53:35SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, and that also moves us to the Dolphins, who are also 0-3 traveling to the 3-0 Minnesota Vikings.
- 53:44SPEAKER_03: I'm taking the upset here.
- 53:46SPEAKER_03: I'm taking the Dolphins on the road against the Vikings.
- 53:49SPEAKER_03: I do not trust the Vikings, haven't trusted them all offseason.
- 53:52SPEAKER_03: I'm on Miami.
- 53:55SPEAKER_01: Um, I picked the Vikings.
- 53:58SPEAKER_03: And speaking of 0-3, we're on a heater right now.
- 54:02SPEAKER_03: The Chargers, who are also 0-3, they travel up to Seattle fresh off of a terrible loss for both of these teams.
- 54:11SPEAKER_03: I'm taking the I'm taking the Seahawks.
- 54:13SPEAKER_03: It's in Seattle that both of these teams just lost on the road last week.
- 54:19SPEAKER_03: The Chargers stink.
- 54:20SPEAKER_03: Herbert stinks.
- 54:22SPEAKER_01: They might both lose.
- 54:23SPEAKER_01: No, I'm just kidding.
- 54:24SPEAKER_01: Uh I pick the Chargers just because I think it'll be I don't know.
- 54:29SPEAKER_01: It's hard to go 0-4, and I think maybe they'll just pull something out and then it'll just change up the conversation.
- 54:36SPEAKER_01: I feel like it'll be boring to just be like oh and four Chargers, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 54:40SPEAKER_03: So well, I certainly feel justified on the AF on the Tailgate Camp podcast because on our AFC West show, I picked the Chargers to win the AFC West.
- 54:51SPEAKER_03: So I'm just stick, I'm sticking it to them right now.
- 54:54SPEAKER_03: I'm picking against them every week.
- 54:55SPEAKER_03: So I'm picking the Seahawks.
- 54:57SPEAKER_03: Um, and our last game of the week is the Falcons at the Saints for Monday night football.
- 55:03SPEAKER_03: It is the 20th anniversary of the return home from the Hurricane Katrina game, and so it should be a very emotional game.
- 55:12SPEAKER_03: And I love the Saints, but I'm picking the Falcons.
- 55:17SPEAKER_01: I'm picking the Saints.
- 55:19SPEAKER_03: I love, I love that.
- 55:20SPEAKER_03: Little household fight, never hurt anybody.
- 55:24SPEAKER_03: And speaking of fights, it is time to tail the tailgate.
- 55:29SPEAKER_03: That is right.
- 55:30SPEAKER_03: We are tailing the tailgate, ping-pong style, eight picks for me and Caitlin.
- 55:36SPEAKER_03: On the year, my record is 14 and 10.
- 55:39SPEAKER_03: I am up 2.55 units.
- 55:42SPEAKER_03: Last week I was four and four down just under a little bit on the juice, point negative 0.6 units.
- 55:49SPEAKER_03: So this week, I already talked about it.
- 55:51SPEAKER_03: I am on the Raiders in that spot that they are in at home against the Chiefs.
- 55:56SPEAKER_03: I'm taking the Raiders plus four and a half for my first pick.
- 56:00SPEAKER_03: What is your first pick?
- 56:02SPEAKER_01: Oh, mine's a Trevor Lawrence anytime touchdown because he owes the people.
- 56:08SPEAKER_03: That would be glorious for Twitter if that happens.
- 56:12SPEAKER_01: I do think he'll he will.
- 56:13SPEAKER_01: I genuinely believe he will have a rushing touchdown for sure.
- 56:17SPEAKER_03: Uh in the first game, it was it wasn't the first game of his career.
- 56:20SPEAKER_03: I think it was like the third game they played in Cincinnati, and he had two rushing touchdowns.
- 56:25SPEAKER_03: So it's not like he's never run for touchdowns in pay court stadium.
- 56:29SPEAKER_01: And Maj is, I mean, it could be a quarterback sneak.
- 56:31SPEAKER_01: I'm not saying he's gonna run 20 yards to get a touchdown.
- 56:35SPEAKER_03: Which he's capable of.
- 56:36SPEAKER_01: Which he's capable of.
- 56:37SPEAKER_01: Um, but I he he will be crossing the goal line with the ball.
- 56:42SPEAKER_01: Not taking a knee.
- 56:44SPEAKER_03: We both did pick the bills, yeah.
- 56:47SPEAKER_03: But I do think this is a major, major comeback spot for the Patriots.
- 56:52SPEAKER_03: I'm on the Patriots plus six and a half.
- 56:55SPEAKER_03: What is your second pick?
- 56:58SPEAKER_01: Mine's the Bills mine is six and a half because Josh Allen.
- 57:04SPEAKER_03: And I love I love a good fight.
- 57:06SPEAKER_01: I watch the Patriots, they stink.
- 57:08SPEAKER_03: I love I love a good fight, and one of us has to win that because of the hook.
- 57:13SPEAKER_03: There will be no push in that in that fight at all.
- 57:17SPEAKER_03: So I'm on the Patriots, you are on the Bills.
- 57:19SPEAKER_03: My third pick is again a game we just talked about, the Cardinals taking on the Giants.
- 57:25SPEAKER_03: I'm taking the Cardinals straight up on the money line.
- 57:27SPEAKER_03: I like the Cardinals' offense better than I like the Giants.
- 57:30SPEAKER_03: I also said this last week when I was on the podcast with Taylor Burke.
- 57:35SPEAKER_03: Shout out to Mr.
- 57:36SPEAKER_03: Burke.
- 57:36SPEAKER_03: But whenever you see a backup quarterback come in and play very well, typically the week after that doesn't go so well.
- 57:43SPEAKER_03: I'm on the Cardinals.
- 57:45SPEAKER_03: What is your third pick?
- 57:47SPEAKER_01: Um, mine's that the commanders and the Colts are under 47 and a half because I don't think this is gonna be a high-scoring game.
- 57:55SPEAKER_03: And it's in London.
- 57:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it's well, it's not really for them, but you know, it's early for me.
- 58:02SPEAKER_01: So it feels like morning vibes where it's like they're not quite awake yet.
- 58:06SPEAKER_01: They're not gonna score a bunch of points.
- 58:08SPEAKER_01: That doesn't really translate because it's not morning there, but might as well be.
- 58:13SPEAKER_01: And I'll be in the games.
- 58:14SPEAKER_03: So Might as well be.
- 58:16SPEAKER_01: I love the morning games in London.
- 58:18SPEAKER_03: My fourth pick, really going against the vibes that will be in the building, is Monday night football.
- 58:23SPEAKER_03: I'm taking the Falcons plus two and a half.
- 58:27SPEAKER_03: What is your fourth pick?
- 58:30SPEAKER_01: Um, this is where I'm gonna get my string of player props because I got I'm bored of the money lines.
- 58:35SPEAKER_01: Um mine is at Gibbs.
- 58:38SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm not gonna say it right.
- 58:40SPEAKER_01: Um, his receiving yards will be over 35 and a half.
- 58:43SPEAKER_01: Um, because I think he had like 60-something receiving yards last week.
- 58:47SPEAKER_01: And maybe as we mentioned earlier, he's underrated as a pass catcher.
- 58:51SPEAKER_01: So I like that.
- 58:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 58:54SPEAKER_03: Um my next pick is coming from the Eagles and the Rams game, two teams that are very, very desperate for a win, two teams that have not played extremely well.
- 59:06SPEAKER_03: I think that typically leads to a lot of like feeling each other out and like slow process of the game.
- 59:12SPEAKER_03: Um, I thought about taking just the first half under, but I'm gonna take the full game under 43 and a half for the Eagles and the Rams.
- 59:19SPEAKER_03: What is your next pick?
- 59:22SPEAKER_01: Um, as much as I wanted to pick here uh a Jags uh touchdown player prop for Josh Cameron, number 19.
- 59:31SPEAKER_01: Um, because what how many cat has he only had this three catches still, or do you have a fourth catch?
- 59:37SPEAKER_01: He has three catches, three catches, two of them being touchdowns, and I thought, why not run it back, do that?
- 59:43SPEAKER_01: Um, but I don't even maybe there weren't even odds in there for that.
- 59:46SPEAKER_01: So I went with Brendan Strange um plus 260 to score because I think he is overdue.
- 59:52SPEAKER_01: Um, but I will say, I will be buying you a Josh Cameron jersey if he does score another touchdown, especially in this next game.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_01: That would be insane.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_01: Send that guy my check.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_03: That's exciting.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_03: A number 19 Josh Cameron jersey could be.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_01: I just think you would be elite walking around with a jersey that says Cameron on it.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_03: There we go.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_01: You wouldn't you would love that.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_03: I'll I'll stay in Cincinnati actually with my next pick.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_03: Um I'm gonna take the Jags plus two and a half.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_03: We talked about this as well.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_03: I like the way our offense has been playing, even in that slow second half against the Broncos.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_03: I was never really that worried, it never really felt clunky or bad.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm taking the Jags plus two and a half.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_03: I think the short line on the road indicates that the Jags are live dogs here.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_03: Give me the Jaggies where you at?
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_01: I have the same thing.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_01: Jags plus two and a half because the nice.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_03: Um we also talked about this game.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_03: I like the underdog spot here with the Dolphins.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_03: I think there's gonna be some major regression for the Vikings offense.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_03: Give me the under 38 and a half in Minnesota and Miami.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_03: What is your next pick?
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_01: Um, mine is for Mizzou alum Luther Burden to score, um, get a touchdown because I need it for my fantasy football game.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_01: So might as well double up my rooting interests.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_03: You hey, you're gonna be learning to say Tyson Bajent's name over and over again on Sunday.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_03: Tyson Bajent.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_03: Um my last pick, we talked about the lowercase K University alum Jalen Daniels, who will be starting for the Tampa Bay Bucks in place of Baker Mayfield.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_03: I'm taking their team total under 17 and a half.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_03: It's not happening.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_03: I know the the Packers stink, but it's not happening.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_03: I'm under under the team total for the Bucks.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_03: So, what is your last pick?
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_01: Um, mine is for Josh Allen to rush more than 31 and a half uh yards because that man's got legs and he's gonna use them.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_03: He's got some legs and sometimes they move real quick.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_03: Um so to recap our picks, I am on Raiders plus four and a half, Patriots plus six and a half, Cardinals money line, Falcons plus two and a half, Eagles, Rams under 43 and a half, Jags plus two and a half, Vikings, Dolphins under 38 and a half, Bucks team total under 17.5, Caitlin's got Trevor anytime touchdown.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_03: Bills minus six and a half, commanders, Colts under 47 and a half, Jameer Gibbs over 35 and a half receiving Brenton Strange anytime touchdown, Luther Burden anytime touchdown, Josh Allen over 31 and a half rushing yards, and Jags plus two and a half because why the hell not do ball?
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_03: The last question that I always ask everybody that comes into the tailgate: did you enjoy your time in the hot seat?
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_01: Um, it did feel like a hot seat.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_01: I was very nervous.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_01: I like was giving you so much shit for not asking me to be on your podcast, um, especially when you started having repeat guests, and then you were like, uh, fine, you want to be hey, you're gonna be on it on Wednesday.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_01: And I was like, what?
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_01: And so then I got real nervous, so it did feel like a hot seat, but nonetheless, I did enjoy myself.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_03: Well, the tailgate enjoyed having you in the pod.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_03: Um thank you so much.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_01: You're welcome.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_01: I'll see you later.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_01: See you for dinner.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_03: Well, that was awesome.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_03: Getting to go through our tail the tailgate picks with my wife, Caitlin Clark.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_03: And now it is time to wrap the show up with our gold star of the week.
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_03: And we actually have two.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_03: One coming from Monday Night Football, the quarterback of the Bears on Monday night.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_03: We talked about it in our recap of week three.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_03: But Case Keenum, 38-year-old Case Keenum, who hadn't played in an NFL game for over a thousand days, had two passing touchdowns, had a really nice rushing touchdown, and was the real reason the Bears won that game against the Eagles on Monday night.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_03: But our second gold star of the week has to go to Yankees first base in DH, Ben Rice.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_03: He was four for five in game one.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_03: And in these short wildcard series that are best two out of three, those game ones almost feel like a quasi-elimination game.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_03: So for him to really stamp down and and put the the Yankees in such a dominant position with that grand slam, he had two home runs, a grand slam, six RBIs.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_03: He had a single uh and a double in the first inning.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_03: He was just locked in all night.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_03: Gotta give a gold star to Ben Rice there as well as Case Keenum.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_03: What to watch this weekend?
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_03: A game that we talked about on the Tailgate podcast yesterday.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_03: Mizo's homecoming.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_03: They are hosting the eighth-ranked Florida Gator.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_03: Should be an awesome game.
