- 0:10Speaker 1: Winter Insurance that I'm true. I'm a checkup insurance actrue.
- 0:15Speaker 1: That is.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Hey, everybody, this is Adam, host of the podcast you're
- 0:33Speaker 2: about to listen to. Just a heads up that this
- 0:36Speaker 2: episode was originally recorded and released back in February of
- 0:40Speaker 2: this year, but it was behind a paywall for subscribers only.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Now we are releasing it for free to the whole
- 0:48Speaker 2: entire world. The episode covers a documentary that I talk
- 0:52Speaker 2: about all the time called Bad Faith Christian Nationalism's Unholy
- 0:57Speaker 2: War on Democracy. If you're a familiar, Christian Nationalists are
- 1:02Speaker 2: the goons behind Project twenty twenty five who see Trump
- 1:06Speaker 2: as God's chosen president who will carry their Nazi agenda
- 1:11Speaker 2: over the finish line. This documentary is a fascinating and
- 1:15Speaker 2: terrifying insight into how those people think. So it seems
- 1:19Speaker 2: like a good one to let loose for free these days.
- 1:23Speaker 2: We'll be back with new episodes next week. I am
- 1:26Speaker 2: recovering from a pretty gnarly illness that was raging in
- 1:32Speaker 2: my guts for damn near two weeks, so I haven't
- 1:36Speaker 2: been able to work much. Sorry about that. We'll be
- 1:39Speaker 2: back at it soon, and hey, thanks for your support.
- 1:42Speaker 2: We love you. Let's get to the pod. Hey, everybody,
- 1:51Speaker 2: welcome to Conspiracy The Show. I'm your host, Adam Todd
- 1:55Speaker 2: Brown joining me as co host this week. Ooh, my
- 1:58Speaker 2: favorite co host of all no co host, but I
- 2:01Speaker 2: do have a couple of fantastic guest case in point,
- 2:04Speaker 2: Heather Marouli's here, Hello, Hi, Hi, Hello, how are you
- 2:09Speaker 2: well enough? You made a very brave choice to not
- 2:12Speaker 2: get all hopped up on opioids before.
- 2:14Speaker 3: This correct I am four day's post knee surgery and
- 2:18Speaker 3: I did not take opioids before this podcast.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Toughen it out. I appreciate it.
- 2:23Speaker 3: You're welcome.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Also joining us, probably in far less pain and turmoil.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Tom Ryman's here, Hey, how's it going?
- 2:32Speaker 4: Little pain, little turmoil, but you know.
- 2:35Speaker 2: But just like the everyday pain and turmoil, right.
- 2:38Speaker 4: Yeah, just the normal agony of waking up every day.
- 2:41Speaker 4: But beyond that, it's been great.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, who's not great?
- 2:45Speaker 4: M who's not feeling awesome?
- 2:47Speaker 2: What we are covering today, I think probably contributes to
- 2:51Speaker 2: people feeling as awesome as they do right now. That's awesome.
- 2:55Speaker 2: In big old air quotes, we're covering a documentary called
- 2:59Speaker 2: Bad Faith. Christian Nationalism's unholy war on democracy. This is
- 3:05Speaker 2: a twenty twenty four documentary, and it is alarming. What
- 3:10Speaker 2: did everyone think this documentary?
- 3:13Speaker 4: Pretty bad man, Pretty bad thought. It sucked not from
- 3:16Speaker 4: a filmmaking standpoint, but every other possible way. It really sucked.
- 3:20Speaker 4: And I'm very sad that I had to watch this
- 3:22Speaker 4: for you.
- 3:24Speaker 3: You know, not many two surprises here, but I did
- 3:28Speaker 3: like how they linked together the timeline of how we
- 3:31Speaker 3: got to where we are today.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Yeah, there are some interesting facts that come up, especially
- 3:37Speaker 2: about the extreme right in this country, the extreme religious right,
- 3:42Speaker 2: and their motivations. But you're right, there's not a ton
- 3:46Speaker 2: that is super surprising about this. It's just kind of confirming.
- 3:52Speaker 2: I think what a lot of people know is already
- 3:55Speaker 2: come in our way. Yeah. I mean, if they get
- 3:57Speaker 2: their way, it's going to be some Handmaid's Tale shit,
- 4:00Speaker 2: Which that is a comparison they make pretty early on. Yeah,
- 4:06Speaker 2: when they're differentiating between Christianity and Christian nationalism, Handmaid's Tale
- 4:13Speaker 2: is Christian nationalism. That's a very different thing. I know
- 4:18Speaker 2: a lot of people who would count themselves as Christians,
- 4:22Speaker 2: who would in no way, shape or form participating in
- 4:25Speaker 2: storming the capital on Trump's behalf. This is a different thing,
- 4:31Speaker 2: but that is where it starts. The documentary January sixth,
- 4:34Speaker 2: twenty twenty one. That was a lot of God fearing
- 4:38Speaker 2: folks just wanting to set the country right. That's all.
- 4:41Speaker 2: That's all.
- 4:42Speaker 4: They just wanted their voices to be heard. Man, that's
- 4:44Speaker 4: all that was. Yeah, that one of evangelical preachers. I
- 4:47Speaker 4: was there. I was there, but I was just there
- 4:49Speaker 4: to stand. And then we see him at the end
- 4:52Speaker 4: inciting a fucking riot.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:56Speaker 4: Cool guys, cool guys.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Yeah. A lot of the those rioters were Christian nationalists,
- 5:03Speaker 2: and we meet a lot of the people who would
- 5:06Speaker 2: have helped rile them up in the days leading up
- 5:09Speaker 2: to this, and they're kind of all a little terrifying.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Ken Peters from Patriot Church, he's.
- 5:17Speaker 4: Yeah, it's the guy I was talking about.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that guy is a real fucking problem. And
- 5:23Speaker 2: but we also, like, they show Lauren Bobert a bunch
- 5:27Speaker 2: oh him.
- 5:27Speaker 3: I had to pull up a lot of these people
- 5:29Speaker 3: look alike.
- 5:30Speaker 4: So, oh yeah, they there's so many honkeys in this.
- 5:35Speaker 4: I have I have honky face blindness.
- 5:38Speaker 2: I love that Lauren Bobert is in this. So it's like,
- 5:42Speaker 2: oh yeah, Dooper Christian jerk and.
- 5:46Speaker 5: Dudes, this beetlejuice, hand beetlejuice.
- 5:52Speaker 3: That's very christian ate it. Help your neighbor, Help your neighbor.
- 5:56Speaker 4: It's true.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Yeah, it's true. Your neighbors got a little chubb.
- 6:00Speaker 4: Yeah, you stroke that dick, reach in.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Help them out, even if you're at Beetlejuice the musical,
- 6:04Speaker 2: presumably with several kids nearby close enough, you know.
- 6:09Speaker 4: The beetlejuice theme is a good rhythm for a wink.
- 6:13Speaker 2: It really is so Christian nationalism. They define it at
- 6:20Speaker 2: the beginning of this documentary as a political movement that
- 6:23Speaker 2: believes America was founded as a Christian nation, privileging Christianity
- 6:28Speaker 2: above all other faiths. Where would people have gotten that idea,
- 6:32Speaker 2: God bless America. I have no idea.
- 6:34Speaker 4: Yeah, it's in all our money too.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Yeah, it's weird.
- 6:37Speaker 4: How many mantra is not the right word. But there's
- 6:40Speaker 4: a one point in this documentary where it's showing one
- 6:42Speaker 4: of these freak as rallies where they're all reciting like
- 6:45Speaker 4: the seven Things or whatever. They're like seven goals for
- 6:50Speaker 4: christ Land, and it's you know, it reminds me like
- 6:52Speaker 4: the Pledge of allegiance where it's there's we have a
- 6:54Speaker 4: lot of like things where we just droningly repeat things
- 6:58Speaker 4: like in a chorus.
- 7:00Speaker 3: In this country, did you promote the tax books?
- 7:04Speaker 4: I visited. My parents lived in Texas for a bit,
- 7:06Speaker 4: so I visited.
- 7:07Speaker 3: But when I was a kid, I looked there from
- 7:10Speaker 3: kindergarten to kindergarten first grade, and you have to do
- 7:14Speaker 3: the pledge of allegiance and then you have to do
- 7:16Speaker 3: this like pledge to taxes. Sweet, it does mention God
- 7:23Speaker 3: the whole thing, you know.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Yeah, are they still making kids say the pledge of allegiance?
- 7:28Speaker 2: It's got so I don't.
- 7:30Speaker 3: I don't. I think in some states. No, right, I
- 7:32Speaker 3: feel like this was a controversy a few years ago.
- 7:35Speaker 2: It is weird. It's a weird thing to make kids
- 7:38Speaker 2: pledge allegiance to the government.
- 7:40Speaker 4: We pledge allegiance to the flag. It's not even the government. Yeah,
- 7:43Speaker 4: it's to the flag with your hand over your heart.
- 7:47Speaker 4: It's like like that. It occurred to me when I
- 7:51Speaker 4: was a kid, Like it was it was between that
- 7:53Speaker 4: and like when I would go to church with my
- 7:55Speaker 4: dad and you know, you have to like repeat the
- 7:56Speaker 4: Lord's prayer and shit, it was just like the same
- 7:59Speaker 4: thing in this freaking rally or whatever. It's just there's
- 8:02Speaker 4: something that really freaks me out about a room full
- 8:05Speaker 4: of people repeating the same thing and like this droning unison.
- 8:09Speaker 4: It freaks me out, and it's all over this goddamn documentary.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Well, as of twenty twenty two, it's as forty seven
- 8:15Speaker 3: states require kids to recite that It's sweet.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Yeah, so that's progress. Three states have struck it down apparently. Yeah,
- 8:24Speaker 2: that thing where you like the droning and just repeating
- 8:28Speaker 2: of the mantras, the monotone.
- 8:30Speaker 4: Yeah, guess mantra is the right word.
- 8:32Speaker 2: It feels programmy. It feels like, yes, programming a.
- 8:37Speaker 4: Whole lot and feels culty.
- 8:40Speaker 2: I noticed they never bring up Jonestown in this, but
- 8:44Speaker 2: a lot of the evangelical types that they show from
- 8:48Speaker 2: early on, like the evangelical preachers, Man, they got a
- 8:52Speaker 2: lot of Jim Jones energy. Like they look like they
- 8:55Speaker 2: can really move a fucking room.
- 8:57Speaker 4: Paul Irick fucking looks like Jim Jones.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:00Speaker 4: The sunglasses on them, Yeah, it's like reverse Clark Kent,
- 9:03Speaker 4: who's still.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Wearing those shades like that close to Jonestown.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Like the Kented Glass foods.
- 9:09Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like wearing the Hitler stash. It's like, buddy,
- 9:13Speaker 4: they're still bringing those back.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Yeah. Ess for Michael Jordan and a Haines commercial, but
- 9:19Speaker 2: otherwise if he.
- 9:20Speaker 4: Was doing both the mustache and the Jim Jones sunglasses.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Oh, that would have been such a heel turn for MJ.
- 9:30Speaker 4: I was also surprised they didn't get into anything like
- 9:32Speaker 4: Tim McVay Ruby Ridge and that kind of stuff. Yeah.
- 9:36Speaker 3: I feel like that's like a whole other That's a
- 9:39Speaker 3: lot of info it is.
- 9:41Speaker 4: It's all related though, at least that's how I understand it,
- 9:43Speaker 4: like the Turner Diaries that kind of shit. Yeah.
- 9:46Speaker 2: The thing about Ruby Ridge and Waco both is the
- 9:52Speaker 2: groups that they were targeting. One of their core beliefs was, well,
- 9:56Speaker 2: we have to stockpile a bunch of weapons because someday
- 9:59Speaker 2: the govern.
- 10:00Speaker 4: Their doomsday cults, Yeah, go and.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Try to take our weapons. So then the government shows
- 10:05Speaker 2: up to trying to.
- 10:05Speaker 4: Take their weapons. It's like they're going to take our
- 10:08Speaker 4: weapons and kill our children. And the ATF shows up
- 10:12Speaker 4: and guess what they do.
- 10:13Speaker 2: They did exactly that.
- 10:15Speaker 4: They did both of those things both.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Yeah, the Waco documentary rules of engagement is that's yeah.
- 10:24Speaker 4: So I'm like really surprised I didn't bring that up
- 10:26Speaker 4: because that's been such a like like a precedent that
- 10:29Speaker 4: all of these sort of cults used as see, it's
- 10:32Speaker 4: happened before, it's gonna happen to us, like to like
- 10:35Speaker 4: justify it is a bit of a different thing, though,
- 10:38Speaker 4: You're right.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Or did they like pretend it never happened? They're like,
- 10:41Speaker 3: oh my god, was he's not one of us about
- 10:44Speaker 3: one of their things?
- 10:45Speaker 2: Well, I think the problem with identifying with that part
- 10:49Speaker 2: of white nationalism is these people want you to really
- 10:53Speaker 2: really love the government.
- 10:54Speaker 4: Oh yeah, that's.
- 10:55Speaker 3: True, right, this is more about loyalism.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Yeah, and so yeah, those like Ruby Ridge types are
- 11:03Speaker 2: not what this regime is looking for at all. Even
- 11:07Speaker 2: if those Ruby Ridge types are looking for this regime
- 11:10Speaker 2: for some reason, but it's not supposed to make sense.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Thirty eight percent of Americans want Christian nationalism, according to
- 11:17Speaker 2: a survey sided in this documentary. That's one of those
- 11:20Speaker 2: things where it's like, Okay, well at least it's not
- 11:22Speaker 2: a majority, but the majority of people don't vote, like
- 11:26Speaker 2: fifty percent of us vote, So yeah, then that number
- 11:30Speaker 2: becomes a little more alarming. I think they do.
- 11:33Speaker 4: I mean, obviously they do mention voter suppression. I wish
- 11:36Speaker 4: they would have connected it more strongly. When they bring
- 11:39Speaker 4: that statistic up, it's like half the country doesn't vote.
- 11:41Speaker 4: It's like, well, yeah, but let's examine why. It's not
- 11:45Speaker 4: all apathy. It's another part of it's another part of
- 11:47Speaker 4: this movement's strategy is the voter suppression and all that jazz.
- 11:54Speaker 4: And they say it multiple times in the documentary. You know,
- 11:56Speaker 4: they keep saying the things like, well, if we follow
- 11:58Speaker 4: the rules, will never win.
- 11:59Speaker 2: What a fucking insane thing to just say out.
- 12:03Speaker 4: And they do it all the time, Like freaking Lindsey
- 12:05Speaker 4: Graham said it. Yeah, they just say it. They say
- 12:08Speaker 4: all of this stuff in public. It's it trives me
- 12:11Speaker 4: crazy to watch some of these clips. It's like they
- 12:13Speaker 4: just they just write it on the cake. Man. It's
- 12:15Speaker 4: not like you have to solve a mystery here. They're
- 12:18Speaker 4: so open about it.
- 12:20Speaker 2: That's the whole thing about Trump too. If Trump says
- 12:23Speaker 2: he's gonna do something fucking buckle up, no matter how
- 12:26Speaker 2: crazy it sounds, He's probably gonna at least try.
- 12:30Speaker 4: And that is some kind of Meffor like, it would
- 12:33Speaker 4: have taken one person in the room to back him up,
- 12:36Speaker 4: and we would have nuked that hurricane.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Oh for sure.
- 12:38Speaker 4: It would have just taken one person to say like, yeah,
- 12:40Speaker 4: let's try it.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Yeah, let's give it a shot at least. And there's
- 12:45Speaker 2: that audio going around of Justin Trudeau right now. He
- 12:49Speaker 2: got caught on a hot mic talking about Trump wanting
- 12:53Speaker 2: to in a great Canada as the fifty first state,
- 12:56Speaker 2: and he was like, no, he's serious, he really fucking
- 12:59Speaker 2: wants to do that. Which Oh man, that what a
- 13:02Speaker 2: huge state.
- 13:03Speaker 4: That's a gigantic state.
- 13:05Speaker 3: It's not gonna work. It's just not a.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Are we trying to get invaded by the fifty first
- 13:09Speaker 2: state someday?
- 13:10Speaker 4: Like that's massive, way too much up there.
- 13:15Speaker 3: Mixed messages from Republic.
- 13:19Speaker 4: It's almost as though they don't believe in anything.
- 13:22Speaker 3: I know. It's like like, oh, we hate we hate
- 13:24Speaker 3: Canada when we're going to make them the fifty first.
- 13:27Speaker 2: State and yeah, yeah. We covered on the there were
- 13:33Speaker 2: two conspiracy episodes this week, and on the first episode
- 13:36Speaker 2: we covered a documentary called The Grab, which is about
- 13:40Speaker 2: all the ways water is becoming like the most precious resource.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Oh and they pointed out something in that about Russia
- 13:51Speaker 2: which I found really interesting, which is that global warming
- 13:55Speaker 2: is going to mostly help Russia in that it's going
- 13:59Speaker 2: to turn all their frozen areas into like.
- 14:01Speaker 3: The tundra, into lush farmland.
- 14:04Speaker 2: It's gonna yeah, there's like the quote from the documentary
- 14:08Speaker 2: is there's an Iowa under there. So at some point
- 14:12Speaker 2: global warming is gonna make Russia like the driver of
- 14:16Speaker 2: the global food supply. And a Tiff Myers on the
- 14:20Speaker 2: episode about that grab documentary, his thinking was, maybe that's
- 14:24Speaker 2: what the US is after here with Canada and Greenland,
- 14:28Speaker 2: is those are also areas that are so far north
- 14:32Speaker 2: of the equator that when the ice caps.
- 14:34Speaker 3: Are starting to melt them.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Yeah, and there's gonna be minerals. I mean, Trump has
- 14:39Speaker 2: already said he wants Canada because of the minerals they have.
- 14:43Speaker 4: Yeah, and I'm sure there's other considerations, like I don't know,
- 14:46Speaker 4: drilling maybe, And I don't know. I'm not being like cheeky,
- 14:51Speaker 4: I honestly don't know, but it seems like maybe Greenland
- 14:53Speaker 4: and Canada would have some drilling opportunities for sure. Yeah, Yeah,
- 14:58Speaker 4: that's not that far fetched. I mean, he is a
- 15:01Speaker 4: goddamn maniac.
- 15:02Speaker 2: So what do we think about Reverend William Barber the second?
- 15:06Speaker 2: That guy's running for president at some point, right.
- 15:09Speaker 4: I hope so I really liked him.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Yeah, and I feel like that's kind of what democrats
- 15:15Speaker 2: are gonna need. I know, the idea of voting for
- 15:19Speaker 2: someone who is as openly religious as he is isn't
- 15:24Speaker 2: gonna sit super well with people on the left. But
- 15:28Speaker 2: someone needs to be able to reach the people voting
- 15:32Speaker 2: for Trump and like sufficiently drive home the point that
- 15:36Speaker 2: you are being lied to by a fucking devil like
- 15:41Speaker 2: it needs like they need their rhetoric turned on them
- 15:45Speaker 2: and bad hair. Yeah, and these godless Democrats we got
- 15:50Speaker 2: right and we stopped.
- 15:54Speaker 4: We should have never stopped.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Yeah, we stopped calling them.
- 15:57Speaker 4: We we should know no peace. Yeah.
- 16:02Speaker 2: I would be interested to see if this what would
- 16:04Speaker 2: happen if this guy ran for president. He seems like
- 16:07Speaker 2: he can definitely deliver a speech, that's for sure.
- 16:10Speaker 4: Yeah. It was just refreshing to see such a reasonable
- 16:13Speaker 4: voice in the middle of all this madness too.
- 16:15Speaker 2: So Yeah, and it really does drive home the point
- 16:19Speaker 2: that Christianity and Christian nationalism are two different things.
- 16:23Speaker 4: Very Yeah, not at all the same thing. Christian nationalism
- 16:27Speaker 4: is a political movement.
- 16:29Speaker 3: Yeah, but these people they don't say I'm a Christian
- 16:31Speaker 3: Nationalist's like, it's all these people on Twitter, hope just
- 16:34Speaker 3: Christian and their bio. These are scary people. Well you
- 16:38Speaker 3: know they're awful.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Yeah. College sports is getting really really religious. You get
- 16:45Speaker 2: college quarterbacks now in their postgame interviews. It's not just
- 16:50Speaker 2: the same old oh, you know, glory to God for everything,
- 16:53Speaker 2: blah blah. It's like they're giving fucking Charlie Kirk speeches
- 16:56Speaker 2: when they're God talking about when and wrote these plays. Yeah, well,
- 17:02Speaker 2: you know, God just came to me in a vision
- 17:03Speaker 2: last night and told me I should run that out
- 17:05Speaker 2: route there on third nine, and I think that really
- 17:08Speaker 2: sealed the game. So William Barber, he talks about how
- 17:13Speaker 2: this has been happening for a long time in this country,
- 17:16Speaker 2: and that's correct. KKK. For example, we're also Christian nationalists.
- 17:21Speaker 2: They thought America was destined by God to be a
- 17:25Speaker 2: white Christian nation. They railed against immigrants. He can believe that.
- 17:30Speaker 2: They talk about Jerry Folwell in this a bunch. They
- 17:32Speaker 2: also bring up George Wallace Man. That guy's got a
- 17:35Speaker 2: complicated legacy.
- 17:37Speaker 4: He didn't kind of turn around on a lot of
- 17:39Speaker 4: things as it got older.
- 17:41Speaker 2: And I have a video on YouTube. I was pretty
- 17:44Speaker 2: sure Trump was going to try and pull the same
- 17:46Speaker 2: fucking stunt because George Wallace got shot and he was
- 17:50Speaker 2: like a vehement racist up to that point, and he
- 17:53Speaker 2: got shot and was like, okay, fine.
- 17:56Speaker 4: Blasted the hate out of him.
- 17:57Speaker 2: I guess, and he liked them super progressive. Near the
- 18:02Speaker 2: end of his political run, he appointed a bunch of
- 18:05Speaker 2: people of color to the government of Alabama. Like he
- 18:08Speaker 2: delivered on all that shit. And I only know that
- 18:11Speaker 2: because of a drive by Trucker's song where they point
- 18:13Speaker 2: out that he's still going.
- 18:14Speaker 4: To go to hell or well, yeah, you know all
- 18:17Speaker 4: that shit.
- 18:17Speaker 2: He's definitely burning in hell right now. But still, you know,
- 18:21Speaker 2: he turned it around at the end. Good for him.
- 18:23Speaker 4: Maybe it knocked a couple of years off, I don't know.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Yeah, Paul Wyrich is kind of the key figure in this.
- 18:31Speaker 3: Oh boy, I did not like him at all.
- 18:33Speaker 4: I know, I know we don't do Ad Hominem's but
- 18:36Speaker 4: this guy's lips, Yeah, fucking stop it, man.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Yeah, it looks like mister Beast.
- 18:42Speaker 3: Like mister Beast has dead eyes.
- 18:46Speaker 4: He does.
- 18:47Speaker 3: He's a soposiopath. I watched some of his videos like
- 18:50Speaker 3: for research.
- 18:51Speaker 4: He said that it's a fucking rick dis grin, And
- 18:54Speaker 4: every every thumbnail I see of him.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I always catch myself saying, oh, I don't know
- 18:59Speaker 2: why that guy's so popular. It's like, I don't know.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Have I tried giving my followers fifty six million dollars?
- 19:04Speaker 4: Like that should be a tier of yours.
- 19:08Speaker 2: That might back my popularity up a little bit.
- 19:11Speaker 4: It's the fifty seven million dollar tier. I give you
- 19:14Speaker 4: fifty six million dollars.
- 19:17Speaker 2: It's only twenty five million dollars. Crazy, I'm gonna flip
- 19:21Speaker 2: it in the crypto market. So actually, if someone wants
- 19:25Speaker 2: to give me twenty five million to gamble and see
- 19:27Speaker 2: if I can flip it and just that's fine, let's
- 19:30Speaker 2: do it.
- 19:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 19:31Speaker 2: So Paul Wayrick, he's the guy who discovered or realized that, hey,
- 19:36Speaker 2: we could probably be harnessing Christian anger and using it
- 19:41Speaker 2: at the ballot box. And he decides to go to
- 19:46Speaker 2: Jerry Folwell and Pat Robertson, who are the biggest televangelists
- 19:50Speaker 2: at the time, and asks for their lists of supporters,
- 19:54Speaker 2: and they use that list to build what comes to
- 19:57Speaker 2: be known as the moral majority. Means you're an American citizen,
- 20:02Speaker 2: your pro life, you're Christian. That's about it. Oh and white,
- 20:07Speaker 2: I forget.
- 20:07Speaker 4: So you got to be as white as the driven snow.
- 20:10Speaker 3: The white part.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Yeah, you gotta be super duper white you to fit
- 20:15Speaker 2: in too. They preached that Republicans are the party of God,
- 20:19Speaker 2: Democrats are the party of the devil, which I don't know.
- 20:23Speaker 2: You ever listened to a Motley Crue song, Maybe that's all.
- 20:25Speaker 4: Right, Yeah, it's not so bad, it's pretty chill. But yeah,
- 20:32Speaker 4: this is like infamously how Reagan got elected. It's hard
- 20:37Speaker 4: to picture it because it's been this way for my
- 20:40Speaker 4: entire life, and I assume most of the people listening,
- 20:44Speaker 4: But like, the Republican Party was not the party of Christianity.
- 20:49Speaker 4: That's not what it was until like nineteen eighty, Right,
- 20:52Speaker 4: it's so weird that it's that recent, but it was
- 20:55Speaker 4: just that's when it started. And boy, it just has
- 20:58Speaker 4: fucked us up for the past forty years.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Oh yeah, it's been destroying everything.
- 21:03Speaker 4: It's the end of Oppenheimer.
- 21:04Speaker 2: That kind of speaks to one of the really interesting
- 21:08Speaker 2: points they make in this which is when they're talking
- 21:11Speaker 2: about Roe v. Wade, which today we view abortion as
- 21:16Speaker 2: that's what Republicans, that's what really got like the hardcore
- 21:20Speaker 2: Christian conservatives like really up in arms in this country.
- 21:25Speaker 2: And it's not all right.
- 21:26Speaker 3: They said, it was like years before.
- 21:28Speaker 4: That was five years before. Yeah, it was when they
- 21:32Speaker 4: lost all of their private colleges lost funding or accreditation
- 21:36Speaker 4: or something because of they were segregated. They had to
- 21:39Speaker 4: desegregate all their colleges, and they were like, fuck that,
- 21:42Speaker 4: we're going to destroy the country.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Yeah, they lost their tax exempt status.
- 21:48Speaker 4: That's what it was. That's what it was for still.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Supporting segregation, and that is what the moral majority first
- 21:55Speaker 2: rallied around.
- 21:56Speaker 4: It's so fucking funny to see them, like they play
- 21:59Speaker 4: clips of these guys whining about it, like that's the
- 22:01Speaker 4: biggest assault on religious freedom and they're just bitching about
- 22:04Speaker 4: having to pay taxes. Yeah, exactly, so an assault on
- 22:07Speaker 4: religious freedom. It's no, you have a university, you can
- 22:10Speaker 4: pay taxes. Yeah, what he's talking about, man.
- 22:14Speaker 2: And yeah, they just Republicans knew that wasn't going to
- 22:18Speaker 2: be a great thing to get in front of people
- 22:21Speaker 2: and be like no, listen, to sell the gate. Yeah,
- 22:24Speaker 2: so they came up with abortion instead. And it wasn't
- 22:27Speaker 2: un till seventy eight that Jerry Folwell gave his first
- 22:32Speaker 2: sermon on abortion, which that's quite the gap.
- 22:36Speaker 4: I got whiplash when they played the clip of him
- 22:38Speaker 4: blaming nine to eleven on the gays. I remembered seeing
- 22:41Speaker 4: that clip live, but I hadn't seen it in twenty
- 22:43Speaker 4: four years.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Oh yeah, it was just man. Man that takes some
- 22:50Speaker 2: guts to get on TV and say some shit like that.
- 22:53Speaker 4: It was it was like right after too.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Yeah, it was September thirteenth.
- 22:57Speaker 4: He wasted no time.
- 23:00Speaker 2: That's a little soon. I'm gonna I'm gonna just say it.
- 23:03Speaker 2: That's a little soon to be like, ah, the gays
- 23:05Speaker 2: did this, And to be clear, the gays didn't do it.
- 23:08Speaker 2: It just happened because of them, is right The right
- 23:13Speaker 2: wing argument here.
- 23:15Speaker 4: It's so I don't want to say it's funny, Maybe
- 23:18Speaker 4: I guess macabre or grotesque that he's sitting there is. Oh,
- 23:21Speaker 4: it's because of this godless heathenism. When like the September
- 23:25Speaker 4: eleventh attacks were on the World Trade Center, Bass very
- 23:28Speaker 4: specifically attacked on capitalism, like it's anyway, not to split hairs.
- 23:34Speaker 2: But it's just there is a quote in this because
- 23:39Speaker 2: where they're talking about conservative supreme courts throughout history just
- 23:43Speaker 2: do not uphold civil liberties at all. That's just not
- 23:47Speaker 2: a thing they're concerned about. And the quote is, if
- 23:50Speaker 2: your goal is to preserve the white patriarchy, you need
- 23:53Speaker 2: a conservative Supreme Court. And uh, oh, we got that
- 23:57Speaker 2: right now, We we sure got that. That's one of
- 24:01Speaker 2: the things that worries me the most about all the
- 24:04Speaker 2: Shenan against Trump.
- 24:05Speaker 3: Horrible yeah, horrible court, the worst one ever possibly.
- 24:11Speaker 2: And we're getting all these court stepping in to block
- 24:14Speaker 2: the things he's doing. But it's just gonna get kicked
- 24:17Speaker 2: up to the Supreme Court at some point. And what
- 24:20Speaker 2: are they gonna do? Probably side with Trump, Yeah, yes.
- 24:24Speaker 2: And so they talk about Roe v. Wade being overturned.
- 24:27Speaker 2: It sure would have been nice if Biden made that
- 24:29Speaker 2: a law, huh.
- 24:29Speaker 4: Instead of that, it would have been nice. Would have
- 24:31Speaker 4: been nice if he prosecuted Trump for January sixth, Yeah,
- 24:35Speaker 4: prosecuted all of the people involved with that. Yeah, just
- 24:40Speaker 4: seeing all that, seeing the footage of it again as just.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Man, but Biden did prosecute the guy from the Fujis
- 24:47Speaker 2: on espionage charges for setting up a photo op with Obama.
- 24:50Speaker 4: So yeah, well, you know, you got to tackle the
- 24:52Speaker 4: important things.
- 24:53Speaker 2: Yeah, he's keeping our national security intact.
- 24:56Speaker 4: He only had time for a certain number of accomplishments
- 24:59Speaker 4: during his administration. And look, he just didn't get to
- 25:03Speaker 4: codifying Roe v. Wade or prosecuting the only person in
- 25:08Speaker 4: history to refuse the peaceful transition of power in this country.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Those were like right under prosecute prose from the Fujis.
- 25:16Speaker 2: So he just like hat that last one in and
- 25:19Speaker 2: then oh damn it and get these other two. Sorry, Jack,
- 25:22Speaker 2: That was Biden.
- 25:25Speaker 4: Got to squeak in a pardon for my son real quick.
- 25:30Speaker 2: They talk about Sondra Day O'Connor in this She was
- 25:32Speaker 2: appointed by Reagan, but she was pro choice.
- 25:35Speaker 3: And a pesky feminist. They had to yeah, she.
- 25:39Speaker 4: Might be a feminist, Jesus Christ. And it wasn't like
- 25:43Speaker 4: it was just on the news. It was just like
- 25:46Speaker 4: a news anchor saying it, I think, wasn't it. Yeah,
- 25:49Speaker 4: So there's there's concerns she might be an active feminist.
- 25:52Speaker 4: What the fuck are we talking about?
- 25:55Speaker 2: This is the point in history where Paul Wayrich decided
- 25:58Speaker 2: Ronald Reagan isn't conservative Christian enough, which fucking yits what
- 26:05Speaker 2: Reagan that's concerning for sure, And that is the point
- 26:10Speaker 2: in history where he founded the Council for National Policy
- 26:14Speaker 2: in nineteen eighty one. It's a secret network to kind
- 26:17Speaker 2: of spearhead the conservative or the Christian nationalism movement, and
- 26:22Speaker 2: it is now one of the most powerful political groups
- 26:25Speaker 2: in the country. Their vision is rooted in a form
- 26:28Speaker 2: of Calvinism that says God favors some people, and you
- 26:32Speaker 2: can tell who he favors by how wealthy they are.
- 26:36Speaker 3: Is that like that thing like buying indulgences from that
- 26:39Speaker 3: was a Catholic thing, but like when you can buy forgiveness,
- 26:43Speaker 3: buy indulgences.
- 26:45Speaker 4: Yeah, just a little donation of the church.
- 26:47Speaker 3: Little money.
- 26:48Speaker 2: Yeah, it doesn't surprise me.
- 26:51Speaker 4: That peasant you choked last week. Forget about it. It's
- 26:55Speaker 4: all taken care of.
- 26:57Speaker 2: And that is a big thing. The god spoll of prosperity,
- 27:02Speaker 2: I think they call it, where you'll know God's favor
- 27:06Speaker 2: in you when you start fucking brushing the poor people
- 27:09Speaker 2: under your thumb and pocketing the money you would have
- 27:12Speaker 2: spent being nice to him.
- 27:13Speaker 3: Who was the guy that confronted about flying first class
- 27:16Speaker 3: and said like, I won't he flew private, he said
- 27:20Speaker 3: I won't fly and por something like that.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Whot he said, I'm not gonna fly in a tube
- 27:26Speaker 2: full of a tubeful of demons.
- 27:29Speaker 3: That's twupul of demons.
- 27:32Speaker 2: And then he immediately transforms into a demon and is like.
- 27:36Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I love that that. They confront Joel Ostine
- 27:42Speaker 4: with it.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Yeah, they're like, you're the only rich person in this
- 27:47Speaker 2: room right now, Joel Ostein. Yeah, he didn't have shit
- 27:52Speaker 2: to say. I'm sure he said something, but.
- 27:54Speaker 4: Yeah, that's like tied up in sort of the American
- 27:57Speaker 4: idea of virtue. I guess is it's just, oh, this
- 28:01Speaker 4: person has a lot of money, so they must be
- 28:03Speaker 4: brilliant and correct and successful at everything.
- 28:06Speaker 3: They did everything right exactly.
- 28:08Speaker 4: Yeah, so clearly this person is blessed by God because
- 28:11Speaker 4: they have tons of money.
- 28:12Speaker 2: Which would actually speak to why Christian nationalists love Trump
- 28:18Speaker 2: and probably Elon Musk so much, because if you think, well,
- 28:22Speaker 2: the person who's the richest is the most favored by God,
- 28:25Speaker 2: then you're gonna look at Trump and Elon Musk and
- 28:28Speaker 2: be like, well, Elon Musk is the richest man in
- 28:30Speaker 2: the world, and Trump says he is, but he's not right.
- 28:33Speaker 3: Oh, he has gold toilets, so he must be wealthy.
- 28:38Speaker 3: Toilets made of gold.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Why would you want a gold toy?
- 28:41Speaker 4: I don't know all of his man all the pictures
- 28:45Speaker 4: of his pant house. It's just such like a dumb
- 28:47Speaker 4: guy's idea of how rich people live.
- 28:50Speaker 3: Right.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Yeah, his house looks like Master PA's house. I don't
- 28:54Speaker 2: know if anyone saw them TV cribs, Yeah, along kime
- 29:00Speaker 2: Ago where he walks in and goes Can you believe
- 29:02Speaker 2: I'm watching Beverly Hills two thousand? Would you think someone
- 29:05Speaker 2: like me would be watching Beverly Hills two thousand? It's
- 29:08Speaker 2: like it's Beverly Hills nine or two one? Oh sir,
- 29:11Speaker 2: what are you taking?
- 29:14Speaker 4: I didn't know what you were talking about.
- 29:15Speaker 2: It say. Actual moment from Masterpce episode of MTV Cribs,
- 29:20Speaker 2: Sweet look at Me watching Beverly Hills two thousand. Pretty funny, huh. Anyway,
- 29:25Speaker 2: they talk about dominionism, which is the idea that we
- 29:29Speaker 2: need to rebuild this country along religious lines, which means
- 29:32Speaker 2: first burn the country down. Good thing. No one's working
- 29:35Speaker 2: on that right now. That would be bad time.
- 29:38Speaker 4: Yeah, that would be a shame. You know, that'd be
- 29:39Speaker 4: really really frightening if that was happening as we speak.
- 29:42Speaker 4: Glad it's not.
- 29:44Speaker 2: No, No, it's not. I mean I think we would
- 29:45Speaker 2: get sued for saying it was probably probably, Yeah, yeah,
- 29:49Speaker 2: in this political climate.
- 29:50Speaker 4: Serves us right, honestly.
- 29:52Speaker 2: I mean Trump derangement syndrome.
- 29:54Speaker 4: Toom it's true, that's true.
- 29:56Speaker 2: I think. I think that's that's the answer there. I
- 29:59Speaker 2: thought all the stuff about them teaming up with the
- 30:02Speaker 2: oil industry was really interesting because that's another thing that
- 30:08Speaker 2: we identify Republicans with being so anti environment and anti
- 30:14Speaker 2: climate change. That's just like Roe V. Wade. That was
- 30:17Speaker 2: a thing that some fucking political strategist, probably Paul Lyyrick
- 30:22Speaker 2: also was like, yeah, we can, we can rally right
- 30:26Speaker 2: wingers around this. There was a point where George W.
- 30:29Speaker 2: Bush or George HW. Bush sorry, a whole part of
- 30:32Speaker 2: his agenda when he was president was the climate and
- 30:36Speaker 2: global warming, and then Republicans just decided it was a
- 30:40Speaker 2: thing they could rally people around. So they decided they
- 30:44Speaker 2: hate climate change.
- 30:45Speaker 4: Well, well they make too much money. They get so
- 30:47Speaker 4: much money from those industries, right.
- 30:49Speaker 2: Yeah, and so his Council for National Policy agreed to
- 30:54Speaker 2: be a voice for keeping fossil fuels alive. And that's
- 30:58Speaker 2: I'm assuming what led to republic Plicans deciding they hate
- 31:01Speaker 2: climate change.
- 31:02Speaker 4: Now, yeah, you know, it's like Jesus would have.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Exactly, like Jesus would invest heavily in oil. They talked
- 31:08Speaker 2: to a guy who used to work for strom Thurmond.
- 31:11Speaker 4: God damn it, that fucking racist mummy that was in
- 31:15Speaker 4: the Senate for like for seventy years.
- 31:19Speaker 2: Yeah, how did he stay there so long? Like people
- 31:22Speaker 2: just kept voting for that fucking guy. That's crazy.
- 31:26Speaker 4: A lot of these guys end up running unopposed for
- 31:29Speaker 4: like decades.
- 31:31Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I guess that that is true. And you're
- 31:34Speaker 2: not gonna believe this, But this guy gets to working
- 31:37Speaker 2: for strom Thurmond because strom Thurman was talking about, you know,
- 31:40Speaker 2: God all the time and being super religious, and then
- 31:42Speaker 2: he gets behind the scenes and uh, oh, Stroman's not
- 31:45Speaker 2: religious at all.
- 31:47Speaker 4: Oh no, he's just a racist.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Whoops. It's like, dude, you didn't need to work for
- 31:54Speaker 2: him to know that.
- 31:55Speaker 4: Figure that out. Ye. Now. Strom Thurman was the most
- 31:59Speaker 4: vocally vehemently racist member of Congress for many many years,
- 32:03Speaker 4: but then he decided to embrace religion, so I went
- 32:06Speaker 4: to work for him, but it turned out he was
- 32:09Speaker 4: still just a racist.
- 32:10Speaker 2: It's like, no, kidd, and that guy didn't look old,
- 32:15Speaker 2: this guy that used to work for strom Thurman. So
- 32:18Speaker 2: how long ago are we thinking he worked for strom Thurman?
- 32:21Speaker 4: Like two thousands probably?
- 32:23Speaker 3: Yeah, Well he died in Structhan died in two thousan three.
- 32:27Speaker 2: Oh okay, it could.
- 32:28Speaker 4: Have been late nineties, early odds because he said he
- 32:30Speaker 4: was born like a couple of days after Reagan took office,
- 32:34Speaker 4: so that means he was born in eighties. That makes
- 32:36Speaker 4: him like forty Scott.
- 32:38Speaker 3: He had like dark hair and a beard.
- 32:40Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, and yeah he eventually meets William Barber
- 32:45Speaker 2: and gets back on track. But yeah, I just thought
- 32:49Speaker 2: it was funny that someone would go to work for
- 32:53Speaker 2: strom Thurman, like actually thinking he is a religious and
- 32:57Speaker 2: righteous man. It's like, you fucking fool. Yeah. They show
- 33:02Speaker 2: that clip nine to eleven caused by the gaze. It
- 33:04Speaker 2: would be DEI today, right, Oh yeah, probably either that
- 33:09Speaker 2: are transgender hijackers or a combination of both, you know.
- 33:14Speaker 4: Or in the airport security that let them get through DEI.
- 33:18Speaker 3: Well, they didn't have that much security back then.
- 33:21Speaker 4: Nope.
- 33:21Speaker 3: Remember when you could go to the gate. I barely
- 33:25Speaker 3: on the Turma in some place.
- 33:29Speaker 2: Up until the seventies, you could pay for your ticket
- 33:32Speaker 2: while you were on the plane.
- 33:34Speaker 4: What it's nuts. I didn't know that.
- 33:37Speaker 3: Did they have the credit card machine where they like
- 33:39Speaker 3: do this? But it's a like that thing.
- 33:43Speaker 4: They've probably caught. The plane tickets probably cost like thirteen
- 33:46Speaker 4: dollars back then. Yeah, Hey, everybody paid cash for it.
- 33:51Speaker 2: What happens if you get up there and you don't
- 33:52Speaker 2: have the cash?
- 33:53Speaker 4: They just chuck you out, kick you out. They turned
- 33:56Speaker 4: the plane around. We gotta drop this dead beat off.
- 34:00Speaker 4: Everybody glares at you the whole time. It's like a
- 34:02Speaker 4: full metal jacket sitch. They beat you with soap when
- 34:06Speaker 4: they land.
- 34:09Speaker 2: Oh my favorite thing about that movie is how it
- 34:11Speaker 2: kind of sucks right after that moment.
- 34:13Speaker 4: It's great. You always forget the stuff after boot camp.
- 34:16Speaker 2: Yeah, it's so good building up to that, and then
- 34:19Speaker 2: they leave boot camp and it's like, all right, I'm
- 34:21Speaker 2: over this.
- 34:22Speaker 4: It's not very good after that.
- 34:23Speaker 2: But are they going to win this war? Beating someone
- 34:26Speaker 2: with bars of soap? Because that I would watch, but
- 34:30Speaker 2: never shakes out that way.
- 34:31Speaker 4: Rambo should have brought that with him in a First
- 34:34Speaker 4: Blood part too.
- 34:36Speaker 2: I kind of want to read Paul Wyrick's manifesto, depending
- 34:39Speaker 2: on how many words it is, how many pages.
- 34:42Speaker 4: He just melted he man looking as us.
- 34:46Speaker 2: He wrote a manifesto that is basically about how Christian
- 34:52Speaker 2: nationalism is going to take over by violence if need be,
- 34:56Speaker 2: calls for the destruction of American government and institutions, which
- 35:00Speaker 2: uh uh oh they talk about the seven pillars.
- 35:04Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I screenshot at this because I liked that.
- 35:09Speaker 2: The seven pillars are the things that Christian nationalists feel
- 35:12Speaker 2: like they need to take over to effectively rule the land.
- 35:17Speaker 2: They kind of imply in this documentary that they've already
- 35:19Speaker 2: taken over entertainment.
- 35:21Speaker 4: Oh my god, I do not make.
- 35:24Speaker 3: Last clips of horrible Christian movie.
- 35:28Speaker 4: All their fucking faith based and all the entertainment is
- 35:31Speaker 4: one of the pillars. Yeah, yeah, they're showing these daily
- 35:35Speaker 4: Wire assmen.
- 35:35Speaker 3: Did kind of remind me of do you remember Jim
- 35:38Speaker 3: cabizl And in the early two thousands, he was in
- 35:42Speaker 3: that Count of Monte Christian movie and then he like
- 35:44Speaker 3: got like weird hard right Christian right and then he
- 35:48Speaker 3: like the past. Was he in?
- 35:50Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 35:50Speaker 3: He was he in the Passion of the Christ? Or
- 35:51Speaker 3: did he direct it? Did he direct it? Also?
- 35:54Speaker 4: No mel Gibson direct he yes, okay, yeah, nous.
- 36:01Speaker 3: Well I never saw it, my dad. I remember my
- 36:04Speaker 3: dad saw it and he comes home and goes, that
- 36:06Speaker 3: was a good movie.
- 36:08Speaker 4: I mean.
- 36:10Speaker 3: My dad actually before he you know, got married, he
- 36:15Speaker 3: was studying to be a priest, so he loved the Bible,
- 36:20Speaker 3: Catholic Bible.
- 36:22Speaker 2: There was a it might still be, but when I
- 36:26Speaker 2: lived in South Dakota, there was a Christian music festival
- 36:32Speaker 2: every year that was the I believe, the biggest Christian
- 36:35Speaker 2: music festival in the nation. And me and my friend
- 36:38Speaker 2: Doug would go every year and just get so drunk
- 36:43Speaker 2: and just like chain smoke and be conscious drunk in
- 36:47Speaker 2: that crowd. And it was so fun and like especially
- 36:51Speaker 2: the part where you'd get like a twelve year old
- 36:52Speaker 2: calling you a baby killer. That was great. But one
- 36:56Speaker 2: year we went it was the year Passion of the
- 36:58Speaker 2: Christ came out. There was a guy in full military fatigues.
- 37:02Speaker 2: I shit you not with about I'd say fifty to
- 37:05Speaker 2: seventy five Passion of the Christ. Buttons just all over.
- 37:09Speaker 2: It's too many, Like it was fucking armor. It was
- 37:11Speaker 2: so so bizarre and kind of alarming.
- 37:15Speaker 4: It's only acceptable to wear that many buttons if they
- 37:17Speaker 4: have mister T on them. I would agree with that. Yeah,
- 37:22Speaker 4: then it really is armor.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Are either of you familiar with the Trump prophecy, the
- 37:27Speaker 2: movie that they point to as proof that Christian nationalist.
- 37:32Speaker 3: I don't know, but I'm sure that my friend's mom
- 37:35Speaker 3: probably texted me that when she was having like delusions,
- 37:37Speaker 3: So yeah, sweet, Like what if my friend's bomb. She's
- 37:41Speaker 3: like constantly text me like these conspiracies related to Trump.
- 37:45Speaker 3: I just like stopped responding.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Well, it's funny you bring up delusions because we covered
- 37:51Speaker 2: the Trump prophecy on an episode of this podcast, also one.
- 37:56Speaker 2: It's based on a true story, which that alone is nuts.
- 38:00Speaker 2: But that true story is that this guy had a
- 38:04Speaker 2: vision after watching an interview with Donald Trump. God told
- 38:09Speaker 2: him Donald Trump was going to be the next president.
- 38:13Speaker 2: And this guy goes to his psychiatrist and tells them this.
- 38:18Speaker 2: In the psychiatrist, instead of being like, Okay, let's maybe
- 38:21Speaker 2: up your meds a little bit or something, this guy's
- 38:24Speaker 2: psychiatrist decides instead to commit some medical malpractice and is like, oh,
- 38:29Speaker 2: you should talk to my wife. She is an organizer
- 38:33Speaker 2: for Christian right wing types. And you know, if what
- 38:37Speaker 2: you're saying is true, we got to get the word out.
- 38:41Speaker 2: This guy's wife starts this daily phone call, a daily
- 38:45Speaker 2: prayer phone call where people just get on the phone
- 38:48Speaker 2: and pray for Trump to get elected. And by the
- 38:52Speaker 2: end of the twenty sixteen election, there were like one
- 38:55Speaker 2: hundred and fifty thousand people on that call every day.
- 38:59Speaker 4: That would freak me the fuck out. One hundred fifty
- 39:02Speaker 4: thousand people saying the same prayer at the same time.
- 39:05Speaker 2: Yeah, and can they all hear each other? I hope not.
- 39:08Speaker 4: I hope So I hope it's a big party line
- 39:10Speaker 4: with one hundred thousand people.
- 39:12Speaker 2: Like, that's got a sound like God, you have one
- 39:14Speaker 2: hundred thousand people just saying the same shit at once.
- 39:19Speaker 4: Fucking Pink Floyd album.
- 39:22Speaker 2: But that's what that movie is about, and that when
- 39:24Speaker 2: people are like, no, Trump is God's chosen candidate, that's
- 39:29Speaker 2: kind of shit they're referring to.
- 39:30Speaker 4: Yeah, that's Cyrus stuff too. Yeah, made a lot of sense.
- 39:35Speaker 4: Oh yeah, because I just thought it was all bad faith,
- 39:37Speaker 4: not you know, I'm not really intended people supporting Trump
- 39:41Speaker 4: as like the candidate of Christianity because it's like so
- 39:44Speaker 4: ridiculous on its face, but them sort of casting him
- 39:49Speaker 4: as a Cyrus type figure, it's like, ah, fuck, all right.
- 39:53Speaker 2: Yeah, he's who God sent to destroy the institutions that
- 39:57Speaker 2: need to be destroyed basically, and when you think of
- 40:01Speaker 2: it that way, Christian's level.
- 40:03Speaker 4: And it's like a former sinner who's been redeemed by
- 40:06Speaker 4: God to be his instrument.
- 40:07Speaker 3: Because there was that woman who talks about like, oh,
- 40:09Speaker 3: this guy with this like weird, immoral past. It's like, okay,
- 40:14Speaker 3: so they latched on. I didn't know that. They were like, oh,
- 40:18Speaker 3: he can be redeemed, you know, through the power of
- 40:21Speaker 3: Christ sort of things. So I guess it now it
- 40:23Speaker 3: makes sense in retrospects. But everything he does they're like,
- 40:27Speaker 3: oh no, it's okay, the same shit always.
- 40:30Speaker 2: And it's like, yeah, maybe he can be, but he's
- 40:32Speaker 2: not gonna be. That's got it.
- 40:37Speaker 4: At this rate, there's going to be lines to piss
- 40:40Speaker 4: on his grave.
- 40:40Speaker 2: The two thousand and eight election, let's talk about it.
- 40:43Speaker 2: Right wingers weren't happy.
- 40:44Speaker 4: They sure weren't. Man, I wonder why.
- 40:46Speaker 2: I don't know. What it was about Obama that the
- 40:49Speaker 2: right wingers hated so much.
- 40:50Speaker 4: Something about Obama and his family being up there on stage.
- 40:54Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, we'll have to we'll look into it more.
- 40:57Speaker 2: But there was something about Obama that really set right
- 41:00Speaker 2: wingers off.
- 41:01Speaker 4: It's I don't remember who it was who blueskided it.
- 41:05Speaker 4: Whatever we call those skeet skeets. I don't remember who's
- 41:08Speaker 4: skeeted it, so I apologize, but somebody skeate it earlier today.
- 41:11Speaker 4: It's that it's in response like a lot of the
- 41:15Speaker 4: reactions to the super Bowl halftime show. It's it's like that,
- 41:17Speaker 4: it's we just sort of expect conservatives to freak out
- 41:20Speaker 4: anytime black people are on television, which is like, of
- 41:23Speaker 4: course the conservatives are going to freak out. It's like,
- 41:25Speaker 4: but we really need to like stop and reckon with
- 41:28Speaker 4: how fucking weird that is.
- 41:31Speaker 3: It is so weird.
- 41:32Speaker 4: I shouldn't normalize that. It's like, oh, they're going to
- 41:35Speaker 4: freak out because there's black people on televisions, Like why
- 41:38Speaker 4: is what It's like At.
- 41:41Speaker 3: This point, it's like so tiresome, and it's like the
- 41:44Speaker 3: same grift over and over, Like I like, I saw
- 41:47Speaker 3: so many tweets to today and last night they were like,
- 41:49Speaker 3: DEI halftime show, I know what, didn't understand what a
- 41:54Speaker 3: word he was saying. I'm like, okay, it's English, so
- 42:00Speaker 3: you know, just like the whole like anti rap thing.
- 42:02Speaker 3: Also still it's still watching onto that, you know, fuck.
- 42:07Speaker 4: Forty year old argument, and it really is.
- 42:10Speaker 2: I mean, I'm sure it's not the case for everyone,
- 42:12Speaker 2: but there are some of these motherfuckers really are just
- 42:14Speaker 2: it's like, oh shit, there's a black person. Everything's different.
- 42:18Speaker 4: Now.
- 42:18Speaker 2: It's like all hands on deck until this threat has passed.
- 42:21Speaker 4: That's why we're in this mess.
- 42:24Speaker 2: The example that always comes to mind for me, I
- 42:27Speaker 2: was at a fucking San Diego Padres game and this
- 42:30Speaker 2: fucking bro comes and sits in our section and is
- 42:34Speaker 2: just being so loud and so obnoxious. And then a
- 42:39Speaker 2: black kid shows up who he could not have been
- 42:42Speaker 2: more than sixteen, and that dude's entire fucking demeanor changed.
- 42:48Speaker 2: You could tell he was so unhappy that a black
- 42:52Speaker 2: person sat that close to him, and it was it
- 42:56Speaker 2: was palpable, and I just like the kid was just
- 42:59Speaker 2: watching the game, making jokes with his friends, and this
- 43:03Speaker 2: guy was like it, like fucked with his worldview a
- 43:07Speaker 2: little bit that everyone in these good seats weren't white.
- 43:10Speaker 2: I don't know if that was what it was or what,
- 43:12Speaker 2: but it just like shut him down, which that part
- 43:16Speaker 2: I appreciated, Like he completely shut the fuck up.
- 43:19Speaker 4: But for once I was glad for his racism.
- 43:24Speaker 2: Yeah, but you could just tell, like just seeing a
- 43:26Speaker 2: black person, he was like, Nope, nope, this isn't good,
- 43:29Speaker 2: This isn't good.
- 43:30Speaker 4: Man. So goddamn weird that we just are like, yeah,
- 43:34Speaker 4: you know, if they're gonna freak out when they see
- 43:36Speaker 4: people of color on TV, we're not going to talk
- 43:38Speaker 4: about that, maybe we should, Maybe we should sit down
- 43:41Speaker 4: and really dissect this.
- 43:44Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's the thing. It's like, what is there
- 43:46Speaker 2: to dissect, Like, just fucking bunch of fucking racists.
- 43:51Speaker 4: Yeah, man, man, it's and what an indictment of America?
- 43:57Speaker 2: And so they bring up two thousand and eight and
- 43:59Speaker 2: a obamba because that's when the Tea Party started.
- 44:03Speaker 4: Which had nothing at all to do with race.
- 44:05Speaker 2: No, No, it was just unhappiness with the government.
- 44:09Speaker 4: Is all taxed enough already?
- 44:11Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just taxes. It was just taxes. And also
- 44:15Speaker 2: the president was black, and it seemed like they didn't like.
- 44:17Speaker 5: That, mostly that, but also but also the financial crisis, right, yeah,
- 44:21Speaker 5: you know, which was caused because our president was black obviously,
- 44:26Speaker 5: and so yeah, the tea party movement rises up, and yeah,
- 44:30Speaker 5: this is where we should have knit this in the bud.
- 44:32Speaker 4: Right, Yes, this gave us like freaking Marco Rubio and
- 44:35Speaker 4: Ted Cruz.
- 44:37Speaker 5: Yeah, maniers, I'm so offended that I have to keep
- 44:45Speaker 5: seeing Ted Cruz.
- 44:46Speaker 4: Oh he's the biggest wiener, he really is. He just
- 44:51Speaker 4: embodies that word.
- 44:53Speaker 2: There's a documentary about Cambridge Analytica out there outfit that
- 44:57Speaker 2: helped Brexit pass in England, and one of their first
- 45:01Speaker 2: campaigns was Ted Cruz, and their literal sales pitch was,
- 45:06Speaker 2: we got this fucking guy elected. You think we can't
- 45:09Speaker 2: get whatever you want done done.
- 45:11Speaker 4: Of course they've had their fingers in a lot of pies.
- 45:15Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, they're they're a shady outfit, that's for sure.
- 45:19Speaker 2: They helped start genocides too. It's great, it's great, Koch brothers,
- 45:23Speaker 2: they started fucking a lot of the team came from them.
- 45:30Speaker 2: They started going out and trying to primary regular ass
- 45:33Speaker 2: Republicans who were like, guys, we're racist too, I promise
- 45:37Speaker 2: they're like, you're not racist enough, and it works, like
- 45:41Speaker 2: Obama gets elected again, but Republicans just kind of get stronger. Yeah,
- 45:48Speaker 2: and that's actually a thing you see all around the
- 45:53Speaker 2: world where a country that has a little bit of
- 45:57Speaker 2: a conservative underbelly. I guess I don't know if that's
- 46:00Speaker 2: the right word for it, but in this case of this,
- 46:03Speaker 2: if a liberal leaning official gets elected, there's about eight
- 46:09Speaker 2: years where the conservatives just like seethe and boil, and
- 46:15Speaker 2: eventually it around the eight year point, a Trump type
- 46:19Speaker 2: will pop up and fucking make that country great again,
- 46:24Speaker 2: so to speak. Happened in Hungary with Victor Orbon He
- 46:27Speaker 2: was like one of the earliest. But there's so many
- 46:31Speaker 2: countries around the world right now where that's the thing.
- 46:36Speaker 2: They had all these years of liberalism and the religious
- 46:39Speaker 2: part of the country did not like it, and eventually
- 46:43Speaker 2: enough people agree and they elect some fucking tyrant And
- 46:47Speaker 2: that's where we're at. Also, remember when we thought we
- 46:50Speaker 2: were gonna have to it would be like another January
- 46:53Speaker 2: sixth thing if Trump was gonna become president again, like
- 46:58Speaker 2: we just voted for him instead. That's awesome.
- 47:00Speaker 4: Yeah, So.
- 47:03Speaker 2: They talk a lot about Trump being like this perfect
- 47:07Speaker 2: vessel for what Paul Wyrick and the Christian nationalists want
- 47:12Speaker 2: to do, which is destroy government institutions and rebuild them
- 47:16Speaker 2: in their image.
- 47:18Speaker 4: Man, how often do people have occasion to call Donald
- 47:21Speaker 4: Trump a perfect vessel? Oh?
- 47:24Speaker 2: So insane? That's got to be like a first unless
- 47:29Speaker 2: you were like, is there anyone in this room that's
- 47:31Speaker 2: willing to say the N word right now?
- 47:33Speaker 4: Oh?
- 47:34Speaker 2: Trump, there, he is perfect.
- 47:35Speaker 4: Then he was already saying yeah.
- 47:38Speaker 2: He was saying it as someone was asking.
- 47:40Speaker 4: Yeah, he didn't hear the question because he was saying
- 47:42Speaker 4: the N word too loud.
- 47:43Speaker 2: And this is actually kind of how Trump ends up
- 47:48Speaker 2: appointing all these right leaning judges is this same group
- 47:53Speaker 2: comes to Trump and they're like, if you will promote
- 47:57Speaker 2: your campaign, if you just like appoint the judge, we
- 48:00Speaker 2: want you to a point, and so they make this
- 48:03Speaker 2: unholy alliance sets up one of my favorite Trump videos
- 48:07Speaker 2: ever where these dummies actually ask him what his favorite
- 48:10Speaker 2: Bible versus Oh my god, this may all of them
- 48:14Speaker 2: something like that.
- 48:15Speaker 4: He said, I don't like to get specific. I don't
- 48:18Speaker 4: need to get specific. Old Testam New Testament equals equal.
- 48:24Speaker 2: I would read them both at the same time. Actually,
- 48:26Speaker 2: I have one big Bible. Yeah, they should have asked
- 48:29Speaker 2: his favorite Hitler speech. He'd have been like, well, thirty
- 48:33Speaker 2: eight holand let me tell you about that one. But yeah,
- 48:36Speaker 2: he he can't name a Bible verse. And in my defense,
- 48:39Speaker 2: I don't have a favorite Bible verse either, but I'm
- 48:41Speaker 2: not God's chosen candidate for president, so I don't have
- 48:45Speaker 2: to have one.
- 48:46Speaker 4: Yeah, I didn't make out with the Bible for a
- 48:48Speaker 4: photo up. That's another thing. Everybody hugged the American flag
- 48:55Speaker 4: like a kid meeting Sanna, like me when I met
- 48:58Speaker 4: RoboCop at the auto show.
- 49:00Speaker 2: And he held the Bible upside down when he had he.
- 49:02Speaker 4: Did yep down in front of that church, him behind
- 49:05Speaker 4: the wheel of that fire truck. We let way too
- 49:07Speaker 4: much go in this country.
- 49:08Speaker 3: A fire truck. There's just so many things that happened,
- 49:13Speaker 3: but you, like, you forget about the and then there's
- 49:16Speaker 3: the next crazy one and the next crazy one, and
- 49:19Speaker 3: you're like, wait, that talked the other thing, and shocking.
- 49:23Speaker 2: I thought there was a really interesting moment right near
- 49:26Speaker 2: the end of this where they're talking to I didn't
- 49:29Speaker 2: write his name down, but they're talking to some guy.
- 49:31Speaker 2: He's an older guy, he's got glasses, got a beard.
- 49:33Speaker 2: It's a Christian nationalist type. And they're talking about what
- 49:37Speaker 2: it's going to take to like unify the country again,
- 49:41Speaker 2: and he's like, good can't unify with evil. It has
- 49:45Speaker 2: to be defeated, which I don't know, like if can
- 49:48Speaker 2: we get that in writing, Like can we get that
- 49:50Speaker 2: written down that that is the stated goal is just
- 49:54Speaker 2: like kill everyone who opposes them, because I don't know,
- 49:59Speaker 2: let's get it started. I guess like, if that's what
- 50:02Speaker 2: it's I have to come down to, let's fucking do this.
- 50:05Speaker 2: But I thought that was pretty alarming that he was like,
- 50:07Speaker 2: there is no fucking unifying. We just got to kill everybody.
- 50:11Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, I mean it's it's been clear, but it's yeah,
- 50:16Speaker 4: it's still a huge bummer to just have him just
- 50:19Speaker 4: so openly state it.
- 50:21Speaker 2: Yeah. And one thing I found really interesting about this
- 50:24Speaker 2: documentary is that it's super timely but also a little
- 50:28Speaker 2: too early, because they're pointing to all these things Trump
- 50:32Speaker 2: did during his first term that are like, see, he's
- 50:35Speaker 2: fucking running rough shot over the government, but it's all
- 50:38Speaker 2: with this tone of so we better not let him
- 50:42Speaker 2: get in off the back. Yeah, and now he's back
- 50:45Speaker 2: in office and the things he's doing now compared to
- 50:48Speaker 2: what's in this documentary. Oh yeah, fucking clown shoes gets
- 50:52Speaker 2: nothing compared to what he's Yeah.
- 50:54Speaker 4: We're sprinting into crystal fascism right now.
- 50:57Speaker 2: Yeah, like that William Carve, It's like, yeah, he probably
- 51:02Speaker 2: should run for president. He's gonna get murdered by a
- 51:05Speaker 2: fucking Maga type, but give it a shot at least, Like,
- 51:09Speaker 2: I don't know, I don't know, we should see, let's
- 51:12Speaker 2: move to another country.
- 51:13Speaker 4: Yeah, let's get out of here.
- 51:15Speaker 2: It's go to Canada.
- 51:16Speaker 3: I'm eligible for Italian citizenship.
- 51:18Speaker 2: So yeah, I don't think I am eligible anywhere. I
- 51:23Speaker 2: don't have to go to Korea with my wife. Yeah,
- 51:28Speaker 2: go to Korea. That's not the United States of Asia
- 51:30Speaker 2: at all, different from the United States. They don't even
- 51:35Speaker 2: have a CIA, Yeah they do. So do we have
- 51:39Speaker 2: any final thoughts on Christian nationalism? This all ends with
- 51:44Speaker 2: just a bunch of January sixth stuff, which, yeah, seeing
- 51:48Speaker 2: it again, it's alarming.
- 51:49Speaker 4: Yeah you really forget how I'm not forget, but it's
- 51:53Speaker 4: just being reminded how violent it actually was. After four
- 51:56Speaker 4: years of these ghouls just trying to downplay and minimalize it, like, no,
- 52:00Speaker 4: it really was a riot. It was an attempt to
- 52:03Speaker 4: overthrow the government.
- 52:04Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a basic how people don't take that seriously?
- 52:09Speaker 4: Yep, it's so.
- 52:10Speaker 3: It's how you know they're liars and hypocrites. They don't
- 52:14Speaker 3: really care about this country at all.
- 52:15Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, I mean yeah, and that's obvious just because
- 52:19Speaker 2: from their stated mission, which is to tear the country
- 52:23Speaker 2: down and rebuild it along religious lines, which I hope
- 52:28Speaker 2: not I hope that's hope that's not what happens, but
- 52:31Speaker 2: it feels like that's what we're.
- 52:34Speaker 4: It is currently happening. But maybe it'll stop.
- 52:36Speaker 2: Yeah. Maybe the Democrats are going to be the resistance someday.
- 52:40Speaker 4: Yeah if we if we keep calling them, they'll consider
- 52:43Speaker 4: taking action.
- 52:44Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, maybe we should send some faxes. Maybe that's it.
- 52:48Speaker 4: We should go to the polls to make our voices heard.
- 52:52Speaker 2: That vote always works. So I think that's our episode.
- 52:56Speaker 2: Tom Heather, thank you both so much for doing the pod.
- 53:00Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 53:01Speaker 3: Thanks.
- 53:02Speaker 2: What do we have to plug before we get out
- 53:04Speaker 2: of here? Besides the erosion of democracy? For the love
- 53:08Speaker 2: of God, follow me on Blue Sky, Adam Todd Brown
- 53:10Speaker 2: Dot whatever the rest of it. Is bsky dot social.
- 53:13Speaker 2: We'll just go to blue Sky and search my name

- 53:23Speaker 2: Heather, what do you got to plug?
- 53:25Speaker 3: Also on blue Sky Unruly Marule, which is different from
- 53:28Speaker 3: my other handles a little bit. So yeah, I'm on
- 53:31Speaker 3: blue Sky. I'm on the other ones, but I won't say.
- 53:36Speaker 3: And then also, I have a substock where I write
- 53:41Speaker 3: essays and it's called Hateful True and please subscribe.
