- 0:00SPEAKER_00: well today i want to talk about the f-word no not the one you hear on social media
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: and cable television or some podcast i'm talking about another f-word
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: a word that's become so common most of us don't even notice it anymore
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: in fact i hear it almost every day almost hourly
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: and i'll ask someone how they're doing
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: and they'll respond fine just fine not grateful
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: not hopeful not excited not growing just fine and the more I hear that word
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: the more I wonder if we've accepted emotional mediocrity as normal what
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: if fine is one of the most dangerous words in the marketplace but nobody changes
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: the world by being fine nobody builds great relationships by being fine
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: nobody adds significance to others by settling for fine today i want to challenge us
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: to replace fine with something much more powerful life hope and gratitude
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: and maybe just maybe discover that our words are shaping more than our of our future
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: than we realize
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: welcome to marketplace proverbs and coffee with ernie where a proverb
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: a day keeps stinking thinking at bay i'm ernie lansford after more than 60 years
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: in sales and leadership i've learned that biblical wisdom is
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: the most valuable asset we can carry into
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: the marketplace each time i read proverbs scripture
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: this scripture reveals practical insight for leadership service
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: and building relationships that far outlast the last transaction so pour yourself
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: a cup of your favorite brew and let's explore today's proverb together today we are
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: in proverbs 18 verse 21 quote death and life are the power of
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: the tongue end quote let's reflect on that scripture
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: our words hold incredible power our words shape our environment our words influence
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: our relationships and frankly our words reinforce our beliefs and
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: with nearly 60 years of experience in business i've come to realize
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: that sometimes we might unintentionally
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: talk ourselves into emotional mediocrity little by little one fine at
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: a time now you're probably thinking ernie i get
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: with it you know people genuinely struggle and sometimes accept just fine
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: because they want to reveal their true state of mind well i totally get
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: that i understand
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: but this isn't about denying pain or putting on fake positivity it's not
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: about pretending life is perfect when it's not hey i've faced tough times i've gone
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: through grief and unseen and unspoken burdens and exhaustion and even
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: then you know i have a choice i've always had the choice all of us have the choice
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: in how we frame
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: our mindset i remember my mentor dan miller used to say when faced with
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: a really difficult challenge or anything different
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: or unexpected just ask well what does this make possible that's a framing of
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: a positive mindset or looking
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: at things differently you know we can't deny reality there's
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: a meaningful distinction though
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: between being honest and giving up hope and sometimes we accept mediocrity
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: without realizing it through phrases like fine or same old stuff just surviving
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: or getting by which those phrases and words gradually shape what we're expecting
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: from life
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: now proverbs 18 21 reminds us that life and death are in the power of the tongue
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: so our words attitudes
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: and expectations truly matter now this truth is especially important in
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: the marketplace where our energy whether positive
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: or negative projects hope gratitude discouragement or cynicism
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: we set the tone from within influencing the environment around us this isn't
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: about faking enthusiasm or like overly energetic motivational speakers it's
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: about embodying a spirit of life instead of a spirit of resignation over
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: the years i've met some remarkable people who despite not being the most talented
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: or eloquent
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: they brought a vibrant energy to any room exuding encouragement hope belief
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: and possibility all because they chose to live with vitality not exhaustion why
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: because no one wants to be around
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: an emotional burnout that's why attitude plays such a key role in leadership
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: and customer success
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: our emotional outlook impacts our families colleagues customers culture
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: and our relationships a discouraged leader a discouraged salesperson drains energy
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: but a grateful hopeful leader and salesperson can uplift and transform
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: an entire organization's atmosphere
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: this is truly truly powerful sadly some of us accept fine
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: because our culture conditions us to lower expectations urging us not to dream
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: or hope too much just to survive proverbs 18 21 calls us
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: toward growth purpose joy encouragement and hope
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: and the very opposite of mere survival frankly
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: and also cross-referencing proverbs 15 13 quote a merry heart makes
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: a cheerful countenance showing how inner joy naturally shines outward zig ziglar
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: famously responded to how are you with super good but i'll get better
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: and ironize that when i'm greeted i usually say well i'm having the time
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: of my life now i'm not pretending life's perfect
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: but choosing gratitude amid reality is my mindset and that shift
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: in perspective can change energy and influence others for the better
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: in today's world where many feel emotionally drained
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: i believe that sharing genuine hope and encouragement not hype is one of
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: the greatest gifts we can offer in the marketplace
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: a single encouraging word can brighten someone's entire day so i challenge you today
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: to replace fine with words of life gratitude hope and encouragement and
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: the next time someone asks you how you're doing
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: you just might want to say well i'm having a time of my life and see how
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: the conversation unfolds with
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: that positive change today's customer success code people rarely rise above
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: the expectations they repeatedly speak
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: over their lives today's action points action point number one is let's pay
