- 0:08Speaker 1: will join us today from the Inside of the Birds podcast,
- 0:11Speaker 1: which you can check out on all podcasting platforms. Will
- 0:14Speaker 1: join us in just a couple of moments. Here a
- 0:17Speaker 1: bunch of stuff we want to get into quickly. Matt
- 0:21Speaker 1: Nagy has interviewed for the Eagles offensive coordinator job. He
- 0:25Speaker 1: was thirty four wins in thirty one losses as a
- 0:28Speaker 1: head coach with the Chicago Bears. He has been in
- 0:32Speaker 1: Kansas City the last couple of years there his contract expired.
- 0:37Speaker 1: They really thought he was going to get a head
- 0:39Speaker 1: coaching job or another job, so they didn't renew the contract.
- 0:42Speaker 1: They have since brought back Eric b Enemy, but it
- 0:45Speaker 1: doesn't appear that he is the front runner for any
- 0:49Speaker 1: of these head coaching jobs. So now he turns his
- 0:52Speaker 1: attention to potentially a offensive coordinator job, and maybe one
- 0:58Speaker 1: here in Philadelphia. Mattnaggy has been interviewed today. That is
- 1:02Speaker 1: the latest there. What is the latest on the search, Well,
- 1:06Speaker 1: let's bring in Jeff Moscher from the Inside of the
- 1:07Speaker 1: Birds podcast Inside the Birds dot Com and don't forget everybody.
- 1:11Speaker 1: You can watch Football at four and the rest of
- 1:14Speaker 1: the show on the ninety seven to three ESPN YouTube channel.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Make sure you like and subscribe and watch the show
- 1:21Speaker 1: each and every day, including there's Jeff Moscher if you're
- 1:25Speaker 1: watching on the YouTube channel, everybody, and hello to all
- 1:28Speaker 1: our Football at four friends and the Inside the Birds
- 1:31Speaker 1: people out there that tune in each and every day
- 1:33Speaker 1: for Football at four. And we just got a new
- 1:35Speaker 1: name right before you jumped on here, Jeff Moscher. Matt
- 1:38Speaker 1: Naggy interesting, former head coach, ap Coach of the Year,
- 1:43Speaker 1: got the Bears to twelve and four, somehow got Mitchell
- 1:46Speaker 1: Trubisky to the playoffs. Should we be excited about Matt
- 1:50Speaker 1: Naggy talking to the Philadelphia Eagles? What say you?
- 1:54Speaker 2: Exciting is an interesting word, you know. I guess it
- 1:58Speaker 2: depends on your finition of what's exciting. He's a guy
- 2:03Speaker 2: who's been a head coach, guy been offensive coordinator. He's
- 2:07Speaker 2: worked with a lot of different quarterbacks. He's worked obviously
- 2:10Speaker 2: under Andy Reid. He's from Central Pennsylvania. He was a
- 2:14Speaker 2: coach here in Philadelphia under Andy Reid. He had a
- 2:17Speaker 2: wild day at training camp one day when the Eagles
- 2:19Speaker 2: were short of quarterbacks because of injuries, and they tried
- 2:23Speaker 2: to sign him to play quarterback for a practice in camp.
- 2:26Speaker 2: I was there, and then the NFL reminded the Eagles
- 2:29Speaker 2: of a rule that coaches cannot sign quarterbacks to that
- 2:34Speaker 2: teams cannot sign their current coaches to play positions in practice.
- 2:39Speaker 2: So that was a fun day. And so I don't know,
- 2:42Speaker 2: you know, he's I listen, he's obviously West Coast offense oriented,
- 2:46Speaker 2: and he's been around Andy for Andy's sort of second
- 2:50Speaker 2: I guess generation of a modern football coach. And he
- 2:54Speaker 2: made a lot of changes when he went to Kansas
- 2:57Speaker 2: City schematically, philosophically, and Matt Nakey was able to see
- 3:02Speaker 2: that there along with what he did in Philadelphia. So
- 3:06Speaker 2: there's some adaptability. But I mean that that's just you're
- 3:08Speaker 2: not who coached you. That's just your influence. He's familiar
- 3:13Speaker 2: with the NFL's personnel. Again, he's been a play caller,
- 3:16Speaker 2: although that's a little rocky Mike. I mean, he was
- 3:19Speaker 2: a play caller in Chicago for two years first two years,
- 3:23Speaker 2: then he gave it to his offensive coordinator.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Then he took it back, then he gave it back.
- 3:27Speaker 2: So kind of like Dable and Mike Kafka, there's just
- 3:30Speaker 2: not a whole lot of consistency there. But as far
- 3:33Speaker 2: as having a guy who knows the league and has
- 3:35Speaker 2: called plays before, he fits that criteria.
- 3:38Speaker 1: So where are we with this? I mean, there's this
- 3:40Speaker 1: big debate on how attractive this job seems to be.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Is it? Hey, Jalen Hurts is a problem and I
- 3:47Speaker 1: don't want to go there? Is it? I don't want
- 3:49Speaker 1: to call Nick Sirianni's plays? Is it?
- 3:52Speaker 2: Hey?
- 3:52Speaker 1: A lot of irrational instability? They fire these guys after
- 3:56Speaker 1: one year? Why do we think that a job of
- 3:59Speaker 1: a team that just went to the Super Bowl? Hey,
- 4:01Speaker 1: look they won eleven games this year. I know the
- 4:03Speaker 1: offense was a problem. There's a lot of talent here.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Why would people not be more excited about this what's happening?
- 4:09Speaker 2: Why would people not be more excited about the Eagles job?
- 4:12Speaker 2: I don't know that people aren't just because two guys
- 4:16Speaker 2: in Dabel and McDaniel, have looked elsewhere and one of
- 4:19Speaker 2: them might be a head coach. So you can understand
- 4:21Speaker 2: why anybody would want to be a head coach, although
- 4:25Speaker 2: it's pretty clear Dabele is going to go if he
- 4:27Speaker 2: doesn't get the Bills job to Tennessee. So why would
- 4:29Speaker 2: somebody do that? And that's a good question. Everybody's got
- 4:32Speaker 2: different reasons. I know with Mike McDaniel, they talk about
- 4:35Speaker 2: his wife being from California. I think that there's a
- 4:39Speaker 2: decent amount of job stability when you go out to
- 4:42Speaker 2: a place like la which has lesser expectations. They haven't
- 4:45Speaker 2: won a playoff game under Justin Herbert, it's only you
- 4:47Speaker 2: win one playoff game, you are amazing.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Right.
- 4:51Speaker 2: If you make the playoffs with the Eagles as the
- 4:53Speaker 2: play caller and don't win a game, you're gonna get fired.
- 4:56Speaker 2: So there's a little bit of difference there, and a
- 5:00Speaker 2: so you can argue that two coaches, you don't have
- 5:02Speaker 2: to argue it. It's a fact two coaches who have
- 5:05Speaker 2: six who have done well have gone on to head
- 5:07Speaker 2: coaching jobs. Two other coaches have gotten fired after one year.
- 5:10Speaker 2: So it's sort of a fifty to fifty proposition. And
- 5:13Speaker 2: then some of the things we talked about last week.
- 5:15Speaker 2: I think factor in Mike, do even if the Eagles
- 5:18Speaker 2: give you full autonomy, do you feel like your offense
- 5:21Speaker 2: fits what they've been doing for the last four or
- 5:23Speaker 2: five years, or do you think it's going to take
- 5:25Speaker 2: a while before they will The offense is currently constructed
- 5:30Speaker 2: will adapt to what you want to do, even if
- 5:32Speaker 2: you have full autonomy, and you don't have a while
- 5:35Speaker 2: because the GM said this is a win now search
- 5:38Speaker 2: that they're going for. So there's a lot of different factors.
- 5:41Speaker 2: And then the last thing I would say is this
- 5:43Speaker 2: because I keep hearing this and it's fair to say,
- 5:45Speaker 2: but if you look deeper into it, it's a little
- 5:47Speaker 2: bit different. I'm sure you've heard people say or text
- 5:50Speaker 2: to you, or maybe you've said to yourself that, look
- 5:53Speaker 2: at the Eagles offensive personnel, what a great situation to
- 5:56Speaker 2: walk into.
- 5:57Speaker 3: And if you take a little microscope to it.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Is it because you have no idea about your best
- 6:03Speaker 2: offensive lineman's health right now, right tackle Lane Johnson, You
- 6:07Speaker 2: clearly don't know if your center and left guard are
- 6:09Speaker 2: going to come back and be what they were. You
- 6:12Speaker 2: might be trading AJ Brown And we all know what
- 6:15Speaker 2: this offense looks like already, and when you take Aj
- 6:18Speaker 2: Brown away from it, it looks a lot different as well.
- 6:21Speaker 3: So those are some.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Pretty big cornerstone type, your offensive line and your best
- 6:26Speaker 2: wide receiver being question marks right now probably do factor
- 6:30Speaker 2: into how people they Probably in any interview you get
- 6:34Speaker 2: asked questions, but then you also ask questions, and I'm
- 6:38Speaker 2: sure questions are being asked, will I have aj Brown?
- 6:41Speaker 2: How is this cornerstone Hall of fame? Right tackle doing?
- 6:45Speaker 2: What's going on with the center and the left guard?
- 6:47Speaker 2: How about the quarterback? Is he coachable?
- 6:50Speaker 1: You know?
- 6:50Speaker 3: Is what's the new?
- 6:51Speaker 2: And plus these guys are also doing their own investigation
- 6:55Speaker 2: as to what they think the eagle situation is, are
- 6:57Speaker 2: you allowing me autonomy?
- 6:59Speaker 3: Does that maintain?
- 7:01Speaker 2: If we start off four and four and the city
- 7:03Speaker 2: hates everything about it? Are you gonna reclaim that autonomy?
- 7:07Speaker 2: Or are you telling us do when things the old way?
- 7:09Speaker 2: I think all these things factor are.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Some reports that you know, Mike McDaniel, Brian Dable were
- 7:13Speaker 1: kind of assured that they would get autonomy in the
- 7:15Speaker 1: playbook and to call their own plays and put in
- 7:18Speaker 1: whatever they want that has in spade. How about the
- 7:20Speaker 1: stuff outside? You get your house egged if you're not
- 7:24Speaker 1: doing well? I mean all of those things. How much
- 7:27Speaker 1: do you think some of these guys specifically, I got
- 7:29Speaker 1: like Mike McDaniel. It seems like I kind of a
- 7:30Speaker 1: laid back guy. Feels like, Hey, California seems a whole
- 7:34Speaker 1: lot better. I mean, anytime you saw the Dolphins play
- 7:36Speaker 1: in the Northeast, he looked miserable. Uh so, you know
- 7:39Speaker 1: that kind of situation. But how much did the the
- 7:42Speaker 1: that stuff, but also the fact that Kevin Batoula got
- 7:47Speaker 1: fired after one try at this, Brian Johnson got fired
- 7:50Speaker 1: after one try at this. How much does that factory
- 7:53Speaker 1: into some of these guys decisions when there's so many
- 7:56Speaker 1: other options.
- 7:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I think it varies.
- 7:59Speaker 2: I'm sure for some got like Bobby Slowick, right, he
- 8:02Speaker 2: was fired after a bad He had a good year
- 8:04Speaker 2: with the Texans, then a bad year, and he got
- 8:07Speaker 2: fired after a year. So you guarantee that guy might
- 8:10Speaker 2: be a little bit more selective if he's happy where
- 8:13Speaker 2: he's at now.
- 8:13Speaker 3: I think I forget who he's with. I think the
- 8:15Speaker 3: Dolphins maybe, But as.
- 8:16Speaker 1: The past game coordinator in Miami, he was anyway with
- 8:20Speaker 1: Well Daniel.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Right right now, he might be looking for something.
- 8:24Speaker 2: He might not want to go from Houston to Miami
- 8:26Speaker 2: to Philly and then somewhere else. So if somebody who
- 8:29Speaker 2: he's more familiar with he's from, I believe the Shanahanrey
- 8:32Speaker 2: welcomes him back as past game coordinator or something.
- 8:35Speaker 3: That might be more appealing.
- 8:37Speaker 2: I did hear Ross Tucker today on Philadelphia Sports Talk Radio.
- 8:42Speaker 3: You know he does.
- 8:42Speaker 2: He calls not only Eagles preseason games, but he calls
- 8:45Speaker 2: games for Westwood one and CBS, and he's around the
- 8:48Speaker 2: league quite a bit, and he said that in you know,
- 8:51Speaker 2: traveling around league, he's heard concerns from coaches about a
- 8:57Speaker 2: place like Philadelphia. Where As you just mentioned, you're house
- 9:00Speaker 2: can get egged if you don't do a great job.
- 9:02Speaker 3: Now we can all have so what your house's egment.
- 9:04Speaker 2: People don't want their families, their wives, their children exposed
- 9:08Speaker 2: to that kind of thing. And that's not like that everywhere.
- 9:11Speaker 2: So it's some people are fine with it, some people
- 9:14Speaker 2: can handle it. I'm not trying to make it out
- 9:16Speaker 2: like Philadelphia is not a good destination. I wrote this
- 9:18Speaker 2: in the story. You know, Bryce Harper signed here for
- 9:20Speaker 2: thirteen years. Paul George left La his hometown where he
- 9:24Speaker 2: wanted to go back to to come here. So it's
- 9:26Speaker 2: not like people can't come here and appreciate the culture.
- 9:31Speaker 3: They can.
- 9:32Speaker 2: But I'm you're asking if some people might be turned away,
- 9:36Speaker 2: And Ross said, look, people know about a the house
- 9:40Speaker 2: hagging and be the weight of the expectation. You can't
- 9:43Speaker 2: come here and do just an adequate job, or else
- 9:46Speaker 2: your job will be on the line very quickly, so
- 9:49Speaker 2: that for some will resonate.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, and I do can't understand that. I
- 9:54Speaker 1: also feel that coaches, maybe the ones that you want anyway,
- 9:58Speaker 1: there's that notion of you draft a guy, you know,
- 10:02Speaker 1: top ten pick, and he's not good. The coach always
- 10:05Speaker 1: feels that he can get the most out of that guy.
- 10:08Speaker 1: I also feel the good coach feels like I should
- 10:12Speaker 1: be able to succeed with the personnel that I have here.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Yes, right, I agree. Most coaches have that ego about them.
- 10:19Speaker 2: They can fix this guy, they can coach this guy.
- 10:21Speaker 2: I mean, man, there were it doesn't it just doesn't
- 10:25Speaker 2: even go to coaching, right. I remember at times when
- 10:28Speaker 2: this would be years ago, when the Eagles had some
- 10:30Speaker 2: instability in their front office, and I would talk to
- 10:33Speaker 2: people around the league who might be for other teams,
- 10:36Speaker 2: and they were on the rise in their current front office,
- 10:40Speaker 2: or whatever front office they were in, and they would
- 10:42Speaker 2: they would say, I feel like I'm the kind of
- 10:45Speaker 2: guy who can handle being working alongside Howie Roseman. Like Okay, well,
- 10:50Speaker 2: I feel like I've heard that from a lot of
- 10:51Speaker 2: people until you're hitting the exits and then you're blaming
- 10:54Speaker 2: Howie Roseman.
- 10:55Speaker 3: So you know how it is.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Positive, he also could be a negative sometimes. I mean.
- 11:01Speaker 1: The positive is you know, they're gonna do everything they
- 11:04Speaker 1: can to get you the most talent possible for the
- 11:06Speaker 1: most part, but they also want things kind of done
- 11:10Speaker 1: their way.
- 11:11Speaker 3: Of course.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you know, I've I've I've talked to
- 11:14Speaker 2: people who have worked in the Eagles front office before
- 11:17Speaker 2: who have said to me they really did not like
- 11:20Speaker 2: working with Howie, but they learned so much and respect
- 11:23Speaker 2: the crab.
- 11:25Speaker 1: It's a real dynamic, yes, I mean, and there's things like, listen,
- 11:29Speaker 1: what you do at inside the Birds. You created your
- 11:33Speaker 1: own company so that you didn't have someone telling you
- 11:36Speaker 1: how to do things. People that work in this industry
- 11:40Speaker 1: sometimes get very frustrated because you have a corporate structure
- 11:44Speaker 1: and a lot of times you got being in a
- 11:47Speaker 1: corporate environment is not conducive to being very creative. Therefore
- 11:51Speaker 1: you branch off into your own thing, similar to the Eagles,
- 11:54Speaker 1: Like you want to be a creative play caller, but
- 11:57Speaker 1: I may have to go up the corporate life and
- 12:01Speaker 1: that could hurt my creativity.
- 12:03Speaker 3: One hundred percent, you know. And that is a very
- 12:06Speaker 3: good analogy.
- 12:06Speaker 2: I've sat in front of program directors at radio stations
- 12:09Speaker 2: and said, I'm really gonna spend a lot of time
- 12:11Speaker 2: talking x's and o's and really educating people on what
- 12:14Speaker 2: goes on on the football field, and they're like great,
- 12:16Speaker 2: And then you get a call that can you take
- 12:18Speaker 2: some calls and can you sort of play the hits.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Here and talk about the quarterback? Like but I told
- 12:22Speaker 3: you I was doing it, you know, and you let it.
- 12:25Speaker 3: But that's the way it goes.
- 12:26Speaker 2: And certainly working with Howie and just also this, I
- 12:29Speaker 2: don't want to put this on Howie or make it
- 12:30Speaker 2: steam at all, like this is a negative job. But
- 12:33Speaker 2: you have Nick Nick Sirianni, who you've every coordinator has
- 12:38Speaker 2: run a version of the offense that has basically been
- 12:41Speaker 2: the same under Nick Sirianni. And Nick Sirianni will not
- 12:45Speaker 2: call plays himself, which you could see as a positive,
- 12:47Speaker 2: Like this guy will never call plays.
- 12:50Speaker 3: But you could see the other side and saying, if
- 12:52Speaker 3: we just.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Struggle a little bit to adapt to what I want
- 12:54Speaker 2: to do, he's gonna make us go back to the
- 12:56Speaker 2: old Eagles offense that they set out to destroy but
- 13:02Speaker 2: want to lean back on because that's been their formula
- 13:05Speaker 2: for success.
- 13:05Speaker 1: All right, Jeff Bosher from the Inside of the Birds podcast,
- 13:08Speaker 1: And of course one of the things you guys, I'm
- 13:10Speaker 1: sure will be breaking down in addition to the offensive coordinator,
- 13:14Speaker 1: Matt and Aggie the latest to report to an interview.
- 13:17Speaker 1: I should say it looks like Bribby Dabele could end
- 13:19Speaker 1: up in Tennessee. Mike McDaniel, it's looking like he's going
- 13:23Speaker 1: to end up in with the charge. I know everybody
- 13:25Speaker 1: said that was a done deal, Acam. Apparently he's not
- 13:27Speaker 1: finished yet, but there's still a lot of openings and
- 13:30Speaker 1: a lot of candidates still hanging around. Do you think
- 13:34Speaker 1: this is something that they just kind of wait patiently,
- 13:39Speaker 1: like they've done in the past when they hired Nick Sirianni,
- 13:42Speaker 1: or do they want to jump out in front and
- 13:43Speaker 1: get their guy.
- 13:46Speaker 2: They are typically a patient franchise and when they really
- 13:50Speaker 2: find the guy or person that they identify that they want.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Then they become aggressive when they need to be. So
- 13:58Speaker 2: I imagine that they will continue to talk to more people.
- 14:02Speaker 2: I don't think this is gonna be It's funny because
- 14:04Speaker 2: me and Andrew had this discussion to check out yesterday.
- 14:06Speaker 2: I said, do you think by next this time, next week,
- 14:09Speaker 2: next Tuesday? So I found an offensive coordinator and he
- 14:12Speaker 2: said no, And that was I was floored by it,
- 14:15Speaker 2: because when you get to you know, we're already at
- 14:18Speaker 2: January twenty first. Nick Siria Nick Sirianni was hired on
- 14:21Speaker 2: I believe January thirteenth, and Chip Kelly was hired January sixteenth,
- 14:26Speaker 2: which that felt like forever and an eternity because remember
- 14:30Speaker 2: he was he spurned the Eagles at first, and then
- 14:33Speaker 2: they went on a search and then they finally, you know,
- 14:36Speaker 2: agreed to terms with him on the sixteenth, and now
- 14:38Speaker 2: on the twenty first.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Sirianni got hired on my birthday, which is January twenty fourth.
- 14:46Speaker 3: I thought it was the seventeenth. He guy sixteenth or seventeen.
- 14:48Speaker 1: He got January twenty fourth. He was hired.
- 14:52Speaker 3: Google failed me when I wrote what they was Nick
- 14:55Speaker 3: Siriani hired on but.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Either January twenty fourth, two thousand and one. I remember
- 15:00Speaker 1: it was my birthday.
- 15:01Speaker 3: And that's a head coaching job. This is a coordinator job.
- 15:05Speaker 2: So and you already have the head coach in place,
- 15:07Speaker 2: so it theoretically shouldn't take that long, but they're going
- 15:10Speaker 2: to be patient with it.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Let me get your thoughts on the Scotland thing here.
- 15:15Speaker 1: I don't know that's been talked about or played up
- 15:17Speaker 1: a whole heck of a lot here. But how much
- 15:19Speaker 1: does he kind of enter the conversation when looking for
- 15:23Speaker 1: this position.
- 15:25Speaker 3: I think it's part of the conversation for sure. You know,
- 15:30Speaker 3: he is the run game designer.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Now, if the Eagles are telling coordinators that they will
- 15:36Speaker 2: have full autonomy, then you wonder what that means if
- 15:41Speaker 2: the coordinator wants to create different run design schemes, and
- 15:46Speaker 2: that doesn't mean Jeff can't be a part of that
- 15:48Speaker 2: process and.
- 15:49Speaker 3: And kind of learn what the guy wants to do
- 15:51Speaker 3: and then do it. There's not three million running plays.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Okay, so it's it's I don't want to call it
- 15:57Speaker 2: uberly restrictive, but it's certainly factors in because the way
- 16:02Speaker 2: the Eagles have done it with Jeff Stealtwin over the
- 16:05Speaker 2: last few years has been a specific way and a
- 16:08Speaker 2: coordinator may have a totally new way to do it.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Yeah, because I listen, I'm not ready to say like
- 16:15Speaker 1: that he's the problem or they got to move on
- 16:17Speaker 1: from him. I mean they have been a elite running
- 16:19Speaker 1: team in this league twenty twenty one, twenty twenty two,
- 16:21Speaker 1: twenty twenty three, and even before when he got here
- 16:24Speaker 1: with Chip Kelly, they were a very good running team
- 16:26Speaker 1: with Doug all the way through. I think that they
- 16:29Speaker 1: had a bad year this year and doing large part
- 16:31Speaker 1: because of the offensive lines issues. But did he have
- 16:34Speaker 1: a big part in the offensive lines issues?
- 16:38Speaker 3: Well, I mean he's not. He's not in control over
- 16:41Speaker 3: the injuries.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Right, and I think that that I think that is
- 16:44Speaker 2: predominantly a big reason.
- 16:46Speaker 3: Now I do.
- 16:48Speaker 2: I have this talk with Jordan Malatta and he did
- 16:50Speaker 2: say I think during the locker clean out that defenses
- 16:54Speaker 2: were doing different things to them that they didn't see before.
- 16:58Speaker 3: And that's what happens when you're a champion, when you
- 17:00Speaker 3: have that kind of track record for success.
- 17:02Speaker 2: So, if you want to ding Staltlin a little bit
- 17:04Speaker 2: for not having his team adjust, the adjustment enough, that's fair.
- 17:09Speaker 3: I mean I think that that's fine.
- 17:11Speaker 2: But I really do believe the injuries were more when
- 17:14Speaker 2: you just see guys unable to make blocks that they
- 17:16Speaker 2: normally make, or Fred Johnson, who's more of a he's
- 17:20Speaker 2: a good pass protector, not a great like run blocking
- 17:23Speaker 2: lineman than you.
- 17:24Speaker 3: You really see what the main reason was.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Let me get your opinion then on the big picture.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Can you foresee now they have gone down the road
- 17:37Speaker 1: of the unknown guy. Nick Sirianni's as unknown as they come.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Andy Reid was a complete unknown. Doug was somewhat of
- 17:45Speaker 1: an unknown. I mean, nobody else was hiring him. Can
- 17:49Speaker 1: you imagine them going down that road for this position
- 17:53Speaker 1: this time?
- 17:55Speaker 2: Well, I hate with the Eagles to say never, because
- 17:58Speaker 2: live learned with them than never say never.
- 18:00Speaker 3: But like I said, how.
- 18:02Speaker 2: He came out and said, we are in an urgent
- 18:04Speaker 2: mode to win now. We need a coordinator to come
- 18:06Speaker 2: help us win now. So if you hire Trollie wise
- 18:10Speaker 2: junior from the college ranks who has never called plays
- 18:13Speaker 2: at the NFL level, is that consistent where.
- 18:16Speaker 3: You may love it?
- 18:17Speaker 2: I mean, he may think this guy is the brightest,
- 18:19Speaker 2: most innovative guy in the world.
- 18:21Speaker 3: But Howie will have no idea, Nikol have no idea.
- 18:24Speaker 2: If the offense is gonna take if they're going to
- 18:26Speaker 2: respect the young kid like that. So I would be very,
- 18:30Speaker 2: very surprised if they hire someone who is not an
- 18:33Speaker 2: experienced NFL play caller.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Right, I would be pretty surprised there as well. But
- 18:37Speaker 1: they always are, like, you know, it always sticks in
- 18:40Speaker 1: my head, Jeffery Little being five years ahead and them
- 18:43Speaker 1: finding that guy that they think is like this new
- 18:46Speaker 1: innovative play caller and you know, going down that directly
- 18:51Speaker 1: because you know, Matt Naggie, let's bring goods, come back
- 18:54Speaker 1: to the you know where we started this conversation here.
- 18:57Speaker 1: He had more success as a head coach than Brian
- 19:00Speaker 1: Dable did.
- 19:02Speaker 2: I almost think that's kind of the same, right, playoffs
- 19:04Speaker 2: first year and then by the last year, you want
- 19:07Speaker 2: a new quarterback.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Had a winning record.
- 19:10Speaker 3: At least actually Dable won a playoff game.
- 19:15Speaker 1: They were twelve and now they lost to the Eagles
- 19:18Speaker 1: in the division round, so they back then there wasn't
- 19:20Speaker 1: the extra wildcard, so they didn't have to play in
- 19:22Speaker 1: the wildcard, but they were twelve and four. He was
- 19:25Speaker 1: the coach of the Year. He got to the playoffs
- 19:27Speaker 1: with Mitch Trabisky. By the way, he ended up with
- 19:30Speaker 1: a winning record in Chicago, Dable was twenty and forty.
- 19:34Speaker 1: I mean, other than the first year, they were pretty
- 19:36Speaker 1: terrible there. So now he actually has a better head
- 19:41Speaker 1: coaching resume. I don't know about your offensive coordinator resume.
- 19:45Speaker 1: He had Josh Allen, he has Mahomes. I don't know
- 19:48Speaker 1: that he calls all the Mahomes plays or not, so
- 19:51Speaker 1: that's kind of up in the air. But do they
- 19:54Speaker 1: just say, you know what, we cannot go with an
- 19:56Speaker 1: unknown guy. We're gonna go with a guy who's got
- 19:59Speaker 1: some But Naggi doesn't feel like that guy. That's my point.
- 20:03Speaker 3: I think the guy that like, if you're looking for
- 20:05Speaker 3: the fuels like.
- 20:06Speaker 2: That guy, guy would be James Robert Couter because he's
- 20:11Speaker 2: been with the Eagles. He was there in twenty twenty one.
- 20:14Speaker 2: He's Nick Sirianni. He's sort of guy right, and you know,
- 20:18Speaker 2: he was the offensive coordinator with Stike in the last
- 20:20Speaker 2: few years, even though he wasn't. I don't believe he
- 20:23Speaker 2: was calling play Stiking was, but he has called plays
- 20:25Speaker 2: before other places.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Yeah, if you sold the job in Philadelphia, do you
- 20:31Speaker 1: have to like go by Jim Cooter, Jim Robert Cooter.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Like you can't be Jim Bob Cooter in Philadelphia, right.
- 20:39Speaker 2: I'd recommend JBC, but that's just me. But that didn't
- 20:44Speaker 2: really work out for Gannon, who wanted to be called JG.
- 20:46Speaker 3: So I don't know.
- 20:48Speaker 1: By the way, John Gannon interviewing with the Dallas Cowboys,
- 20:51Speaker 1: I think he had an interview with the Commanders for
- 20:53Speaker 1: their defensive coordinator job. Christian Parker also interviewing for Dallas
- 20:58Speaker 1: Green Bay. That would be a pretty big loss. It's
- 21:01Speaker 1: not being discussed a lot.
- 21:02Speaker 3: No, it's really not.
- 21:03Speaker 2: I wrote about this yesterday about some of the things
- 21:06Speaker 2: the non offensive coordinator issues facing the Eagles, and that's
- 21:09Speaker 2: one of them, the fact that they could not only
- 21:11Speaker 2: lose Christian Parker to a defensive coordinator job, but in
- 21:15Speaker 2: their own division or in their own conference.
- 21:18Speaker 3: And he's a really respected coach.
- 21:20Speaker 1: All right, Well, you know we have our eyes on this.
- 21:23Speaker 1: When news happens, we have you at Football at four,
- 21:25Speaker 1: the Inside of the Birds podcast, Phillyvoice dot com. Make
- 21:28Speaker 1: sure you check out Jeff's work over there as well.
- 21:31Speaker 1: He's got a good piece today Philly Voice dot com
- 21:34Speaker 1: about the attractiveness of this job and why the fans
- 21:39Speaker 1: might be a little bit of a problem hiring this
- 21:41Speaker 1: offensive coordinator, and of course football at four tomorrow right
- 21:45Speaker 1: here on the Sports Bash. All right, man, we'll talk
- 21:49Speaker 1: to you next week.
