- Robin Axline: Welcome, dear listeners, to the episode where we each bring a petty story we found on the internet and compete to find the pettiest story. Do we always get it right? No. Does our rating system make any sense? Also, probably not. So, do we find this massively entertaining? I'd say that's a resounding yes. Tita Lors: Yes, absolutely. Yes. Robin Axline: And so we hope you do too. So let's the battle commence. Tita Lors: Ha ha ha. Robin Axline: So we start these episodes with a prediction of who will win based on the titles. So I suppose we should do that first. Tita Lors: Yes. Okay, quick tangent. So I was listening to you talk and I was like reminded of these reels that I keep seeing of the California accent. Robin Axline: Let's go. Tita Lors: And apparently sometimes us Californians don't always say the T's in words. For instance, as you look at the screen, how would you say the word? I'm gonna type it out. you see it? Robin Axline: yes, yes, yes. Internet. Tita Lors: That's not what you said. Robin Axline: I didn't what did I say internet? Tita Lors: No. Yep. Robin Axline: Internet. Internet. Tita Lors: Internet Mountains Robin Axline: Mountains. Tita Lors: Santa Monica. Robin Axline: Santa Monica. man. That's crazy. Tita Lors: Yep. she started saying a whole bunch of other words and I'm like, nah. Other people say it that way too. Right? Pretty sure. no, apparently it's pretty localized. Robin Axline: Huh. It's it's funny 'cause I got rid of a lot of that I think in my college days. I had to take like a voice and speech class and everything was like enunciated so I was a little more hard on the T's. But I Tita Lors: Mm. Robin Axline: think I've some of that went away. I just said Tita Lors: Ha ha. Robin Axline: went away, not went away. Tita Lors: See? Robin Axline: Jeez got me. As California girls gotta stick together. well Tita Lors: I know, seriously. You could take the girl out of California, but you can't take the California out of the girl. Robin Axline: Yeah. okay. Now here's one for you. Tita Lors: Okay. Robin Axline: where yeah, okay, so I'm gonna type right here. Okay. Tita Lors: Both. Both of us. And sometimes Robin Axline: Okay. All right. Okay. Yeah. Tita Lors: both. Robin Axline: Yeah, so yeah, that's my Tita Lors: Depends on who I'm talking to and what side of me is coming out because sometimes it's both. It's a B O F F, not a B O T H. Yeah. How do you say it? What is it for you? Robin Axline: both. Whoa. So my niece was having a fit. My six year old niece. Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. Robin Axline: She was like, I was saying like the both of us or something. And she's like, you say that really, really weird. And I was like, what are you talking about? What do you mean? And she's like, it's supposed to be both. And I was like, I thought that's what I was saying, both. But Tita Lors: Both. Yeah. Yeah. Robin Axline: then she's like You say both. And so I was like, I guess they kind of do say that sometimes. B the both of us. Tita Lors: Yeah, the both of us. Robin Axline: Instead of both. Like very Yeah. And I was like, why are you Tita Lors: Ennunciated. Robin Axline: picking on me? And then she's like, I'll teach you how to say it, right? I'm like, okay. Alright, teacher. Tita Lors: Thanks. That's so funny because my little right now, she's saying all of the letters in some words, especially when it's like a there's an L in it. So can you help me? Milk I need help. Can you give me milk? Milk? Robin Axline: That's so cute. Millic. Tita Lors: Yeah, and I'm trying to remember what the other words are, but it's a lot of like there's an L and then one consonant after that and she's saying all the letters. Robin Axline: I remember when I was a kid my mom would tell me that I said milk instead of milk. Tita Lors: Milk. Milk. I say milk. Robin Axline: Alright. And Tita Lors: Ha ha ha. Robin Axline: my mom would be like, why do you say like that? I was like, I don't know. Milk Tita Lors: It's not bad. I don't know what to tell you. Robin Axline: and then also pillow. Sometimes instead of pillow, I'll just be like, Yeah, it's my pillow. Tita Lors: Wait, wait. Pullo. Robin Axline: My pillow. Tita Lors: Yeah. Robin Axline: But I think sometimes I would do it more like the milk of it all and make Tita Lors: The E. Yeah. Robin Axline: my pillow. Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. Robin Axline: So I'd be like darn it, I said it again. Tita Lors: Ha ha ha. Robin Axline: So I'm I'm I'm a lot more conscious of it now, but still sometimes it comes out when I'm not thinking. Yeah. But I I'm pretty sure it does have some California nest to it. Tita Lors: Probably. Yeah. and my big right now is saying properly. Not probably. Probably. Robin Axline: That's so cute, it's a big word. Probably. I'm gonna start saying that now. Tita Lors: It is. Probably. Uh-huh. Man. Okay, okay, okay. But yes, our predictions. Okay. So what's your title? Robin Axline: Yeah. So my title is new manager. That's all it's called. Tita Lors: That's it? Okay. Robin Axline: Yeah, it's not very cool. Tita Lors: Okay, mine is A-I-T-A for telling my husband he can't use my good kitchen knife. Robin Axline: Hmm. Ooh. I'd say that that one's I mean, mine does not have any context, so I'm gonna go with yours. Tita Lors: You know I can't I'm gonna go with mine too, 'cause I don't know. Like also who's gonna be who's gonna be petty? The manager or the OP? Or is the OP the manager? I don't know. Robin Axline: Find out. Yeah. Tita Lors: Okay. So we both think mine. We both think that it's Emma the hassle for telling my husband he can't use my good kitchen knife. Robin Axline: Yeah, that sounds pretty petty to me. Well, unless he's like a real Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. I guess we'll see. Let's get some contacts and have you go first. Robin Axline: Yeah. boy. Okay. So new manager. This is under Reddit Petty Revenge and the OP is hot initial one one eight. Okay. Tita Lors: Ha ha ha. Robin Axline: So this happened a long time ago, but I just remembered the story as I was talking to friends who used to be in the wine industry. Back then it wasn't common for there to be one female in an entire sales force, and that happened to be me. I let my I know. Tita Lors: This is kinda like you. Robin Axline: I used to work in the wine industry. Funny. Funny you should say that. No. Tita Lors: You did. Uhhuh. Robin Axline: It's one reason it kinda piqued my interest, but yeah. except this is more in Tita Lors: Okay, continue. Robin Axline: like the traveling salesperson part of it. But still. Okay, I left I let management know that I was interested in becoming a sales manager rather than just a salesperson, but never received much of a response. One of the much less experienced salesmen was promoted over me to sales manager and told me he wanted to go out on the road with me one day to see my accounts and increase my sales. This guy didn't know squat about sales, wine, or talking to people in a way that will get them to purchase more. The thing about sales, it's much more about the connection with a person than the product you're selling. If you can connect, they will buy. At the time I was driving a Volvo. my gosh, just like me. Sounds kind of like. Tita Lors: Robin, did you write this? Robin Axline: okay. At the time I was driving a Volvo and it was one of the first cars with heated seats. That is wild. I had like an 88 sedan with heated seats. What in the world? Okay. Yeah, I'm like, huh. Tita Lors: Are you having flashbacks? Robin Axline: the new sales manager gets into the car with me. It's a hot, humid day, and he's wearing a brand new heavy wool suit. Oof. When he got into the car, I turned on his seat heater. Okay. My first account was about a forty minute drive from the office and I can see him starting to squirm. I knew that he was heating up because he was practically dripping sweat. I wouldn't want somebody to sweat in my car though. Tita Lors: Ew I wouldn't either. Why would you do that to yourself? Ugh, the smell. Robin Axline: Yeah, gross. Tita Lors: You don't know what people smell like when they're sweating. I don't wanna smell you. Ugh. Robin Axline: Yeah. Yeah, and like car for forty minutes there and forty minutes back? No, thank you. Tita Lors: No Robin Axline: so after or all of a sudden he looks at me and says, baby, my balls are roasting. Tita Lors: No. Robin Axline: What's going on with people? Seriously. Tita Lors: Absolutely not. No. HR Robin Axline: I responded, I'm not interested and we're at the next account. One of the greatest experiences of my life. person says petty revenge yeah petty revenge Tita Lors: Wait, that's it? Robin Axline: best served heated Tita Lors: Yeah. Robin Axline: I don't know I wish you could have like done something else about the roasted nuts or something. Tita Lors: Yeah, no. Ew. feel like you're Robin Axline: You're up. Tita Lors: just punishing yourself after like Robin Axline: Yeah. I'd be like call an Ober back to the thing, get out of here. Tita Lors: Ugh no, I don't need to Yeah. Ew No Robin Axline: I knew this would be kind of a polarizing one, so Tita Lors: Also what a horrible way to end it. I need more information. Robin Axline: No, like seriously. I don't think there's any more OP. Tita Lors: Like, that's it, they just warmed his balls for him. Robin Axline: she says, this was over forty years ago. in all male family owned business. You either sucked it up or left. There were very different it was very different for women back then. After dealing with some of my male customers, what he said was no big deal. here's an example for you. I was calling in a restaurant that was owned by a family, and the son ran it. The first few times I called on the son, he was always watching TV. So I quickly learned to just talk and tell him about this great wine. Sign the order, and I'm out of your way. Enjoy your show. After about the Tita Lors: Ha ha ha. Robin Axline: third or fourth time of this, I took a peek at the TV screen and noticed it was hardcore prawn. I then realized he had no clue what I was saying, and I could sell him anything. Tita Lors: Ha ha. Robin Axline: One day I was assigned a winery rep to work with me. I think it was Meridian Wines, and I said to the rep, just follow my lead, ignore the TV, and you'll get a huge order. The winery rep just looked at me and I said something like, Believe me, this will be a first for you. So we go into the restaurant, up to the office, and the TV had the volume on. I looked at the restaurant guy and said, Freddy, turn off the volume. I introduced the winery rep, and the rep started to say his name. typical spiel. I then looked at the rep and said, just write up a crazy order and he'll sign it. He signed it and we walked out. So just because one guy Tita Lors: my gosh. Robin Axline: says his balls are roasting and another was addicted to prawn back then you just lived with it and you wanted to make the sale. Tita Lors: Man, I'm so glad that I don't exist in that world. You know how people are always like, what's like, what time in history would you like to be transported back to? No time. No freaking time in history do I want Robin Axline: Yeah, yeah. Tita Lors: to be transported back to. I would be hanged as a witch. Robin Axline: yeah. Tita Lors: I would be stoned for being a whore, probably. I would be like in every timeline if I go back in history, I'll probably be murked. Especially Robin Axline: God Terry. Tita Lors: if it's American or like English, UK history. I think if I go back to like Philippine history, probably again murked, I guess. colonization, war. Robin Axline: True, that's true. I feel like we all have like this romanticization of past eras and then but then when you think about how women were, it wasn't a good picture. So Tita Lors: Mm-mm. Yeah. I would have to go to like pre colonized Philippine island, not even called the Philippine Islands, like separate different islands time when they actually respected women to some degree. And even then. Yeah. Yeah. Like I but I wouldn't would I want to go there? No. Probably not. Robin Axline: No. Right. man. Yeah, I know. Then that's like not Yeah. It's not much you could do. gosh. Tita Lors: Exactly. That's like pre technology. No. Robin Axline: Yeah, that's crazy. Ugh. But yeah, I was gonna say real quick 'cause like I also was a wine buyer at a cafe and boutique and the reps sometimes would bring in a representative from the winery to like really get you interested in it 'cause like they were really passionate about their own wines and so you'd feel kinda like, it was so nice and all this and like you just have to really think about it. You're like, Well, my budget is this, do I wanna s like do this or not, 'cause sometimes it was really tempting to just be like, Yeah, sign me up for a bunch of cases 'cause the wine person was like their personality and Tita Lors: Yeah. Robin Axline: something like that but also i if the wine was good it was harder to do but Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. Robin Axline: but it is a thing that they do. So I was like, Yep, I guess they still do that even even now. So mm Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. Yeah, that makes sense. Yeah. Was that your first job ever? No, what was your first job ever? Robin Axline: My first job was at Starbucks. I think. Yeah, Starbucks. And then I worked at a winery and I wasn't allowed to pour 'cause I wasn't twenty-one. But I just would like box the wines and ring people up and go get more cases in stock and that sort of thing. And then I eventually started pouring there and that sort of thing. Hmm. God. So many to choose from, I'm sorry to say. Tita Lors: I I bet, yeah. Robin Axline: Like, my god, I just man. I there's so many bad ones. I Tita Lors: Ha ha ha. Robin Axline: like I worked in a storage facility, some stuff went down there. I worked in a tech support cubicle, The I'd say one of the things that really got in my craw was like there was this guy who was like a always kissed everybody's butts that were like bosses. And he was kind of like unrealistically overly nice to some customers who he thought he'd get a sale from at the winery. And he wanted to make more money so this sounds so crazy. he and I would work and sometimes like it would like a weekday and it was like a little bit slow and he always seemed like he was on some like upper kind of thing 'cause he was always like, I'm gonna get some more boxes, I'm gonna do this, moving around stuff and He went one of the managers was actually a buddy of mine and I guess he went into the manager's office and he went to the main gal and he was like, You know, you don't need to have Robin on the schedule because I can work for two people and then you can pay me her salary Tita Lors: Ha ha ha ha That defeats the purpose. Robin Axline: Yeah, like you can pay me double because I need more I need money more than Robin or something and I'm like, You don't know me, you don't know my life. I have a million like I have student loans up the so yeah Tita Lors: Yeah. Wazoo. Robin Axline: and I was just like, dude, you are way out of line. Like and so the manager gal told me that he came in there and did that and I was like, buddy, like it's on after that. What about you? Tita Lors: Wow. Mm-mm. so I'll I have two stories. One of is like probably somewhat inappropriate, but really cool. And then the other one was like yikes. but still funny. So my first job ever, I think I was sixteen, and I worked in tell it's Like doing surveys online on the phone over the phone. So calling people to do like customer service surveys. Tell a something. I don't know, whatever. So I we would call and then try to get people on the phone and we just a lot of interesting characters and rightfully so because who wants to do these surveys? Yeah. one time somebody answered and it was so clear that they were in the middle of schmecky time. I was I was like, would you like me to call back another time? And he's like, No. Grunting, moaning in the background, no, it's fine. We can do this now. And I'm like, Mm-hmm. But I mean they don't know that I'm only sixteen. So there was I looked at my supervisor and I muted myself and I'm like, I'm pretty sure this guy's having intercourse. And they were like, just go ahead and hang up. I know. Yeah. It's like, Okay, well, we'll just call you back. Thanks, sir. Bye. Robin Axline: Yikes. Tita Lors: Yeah, there was a few times. That happened a couple of times. And then there was like I for I don't know if there was any other ones there. But after college, one of the first jobs that I took was in retail 'cause I graduated like two thousand and eight and you know, nobody was hiring in two thousand eight. Yeah. Robin Axline: Yeah, that was a worse time. Tita Lors: so I got a job in VTail and one somebody's parent walked in and was like, May I say something? May I give you a compliment? And I was like I'm all of like twenty one ish. I don't know if I want to hear your compliment But I'm like Sure Why not? Could it be? and I was like in the middle of like trying to break up with my boyfriend at the time, but so this person's like, you know, I'm sure you're quite young and if I was younger, presumably your age, I would be in here every day with flowers trying to win you over for a date. And I was like, Thank you. Sweet. I think. Robin Axline: Yeah, I think. Tita Lors: Right? Like, I mean as long as you're not stalking me and you're not like following me home and stuff. I think if somebody did that, that'd be kinda Robin Axline: Yeah. Tita Lors: cute, right? Of like, here's flowers, here's some coffee. I hope you have a good day. Kinda thing. Not horrible, right? Yeah. I mean I don't like flowers that much, but Yeah. Yeah. I know. So like older guy and I was like Thank you. Robin Axline: But don't do that, really. Tita Lors: And he's like, You're welcome and then he left. so you didn't keep it creepy. Yeah, and I was like, And and especially like around that time my self-esteem was still pretty low. so I was like, Okay, cool, thanks. And then and then in the opposite direction, a weird way, like some child was hitting on me and I was like, Nah, dude And they're and I was like how he's like, No, come on, like I'll I'll buy you lunch or whatever and I was like, How old are you? It's like age is just a number and I'm like, nah, fam Not if I'm going to jail. It's not just a number. Robin Axline: Ha. Tita Lors: It's not happening. Robin Axline: Not if I'm going to jail. The bullet. Tita Lors: It's the number of years I end up in jail, maybe. Like Yeah. Interesting work stories for sure for gals. that's so true. Yeah. man. Okay. We're not too traumatized. Oof. okay. Let's see. Alright, you ready for my story? Alright. Am I the asshole for l telling my husband he can't use my good kitchen knife? And let's hope that this didn't get deleted. I don't think it did. and I was smart, cause this time I actually copied pasted it somewhere. I dude, that's so smart because it actually got removed by the moderator. I'm so glad I did that. Okay. I am copy pasting from now on. Should this ever happen again? Alright, so I have a nice a nice blah bla blah. I have a nice chef's knife. Say that three times fast. Nice chef's knife. Nice chef's nice. Nice chef's nice. Nice chef's knife. Robin Axline: Chef's knife. Nice chef's knife. Nice chef's knife. I have a nice chef's knife. Tita Lors: It was a gift from my dad. I take care of it, hand wash only, sharpen it regularly, never put it in the dishwasher. My husband uses it for everything. Cutting frozen meat, opening packages, scraping things off the cutting board. I've told him so many times not to do that. Last week, I found it in the sink with dried food stuck to it. Sitting there in the water. I I can see. Robin Axline: Ugh! I am cringing. This is crazy. Alright. Tita Lors: Yeah. I was so annoyed. I said, I've asked you not to use this knife. You don't take care of it. He said, it's just a knife. You're being obsessive. I said, it's expensive and it matters to me. Use the cheap knives. Now I hide it in a drawer. He's annoyed and says I'm treating him like a child. Am I the asshole? Robin Axline: Fragile male. Tita Lors: Ha ha. Seriously. Robin Axline: If you s it's if it's not a big deal then use a cheap knife then Tita Lors: Yeah, seriously. If it doesn't matter, why not use that one? No. Okay, I see why it was deleted. And I kind of thought that maybe this would have been it because I heard I might have read this or seen this somewhere else. So it was deleted because it violated rule four of this group, which was not to use AI to write or edit your post. So yeah, it it might have it was either AI or they like it wasn't theirs and they used somebody else's stuff. But it's looking like it was AI. I know. Way, but also still something to talk about. This doesn't sound Robin Axline: Yeah, of course. Tita Lors: like AI though. Robin Axline: No, that's why I was like I was trying to run through it in my head just now. Like, it doesn't sound like Tita Lors: Yeah, this sounds like somebody wrote it, but like Robin Axline: Hmm. I don't know. I'd like to know what kind of knife it was. Tita Lors: This is true. Probably I'm thinking like like some Japanese knife or Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like a super, super fancy knife if that was it. Cause I get it. Like we have the my gosh, what's those what are those knives called? No, we don't have Japanese knives, but Kutko knives. Robin Axline: Ginzu? No. I'm just kidding. boy. Okay. Yep. Tita Lors: Yeah, we have those knives and those are actually really expensive and I keep trying to remind myself and also Ryan to not put it inside the dishwasher and that we do need to hand wash it as well so that they can last longer. But but also he used to sell cut co so he probably knows better than I. Yeah. Robin Axline: I almost I almost got a cut code job. Tita Lors: Did you? Robin Axline: hilarious and I just decided I didn't want to do that but Tita Lors: Ha ha ha. Robin Axline: I was like this close Tita Lors: Yeah, so I mean then I g if he thinks that you're allowed to put it in a dishwasher, who am I to to tell him you can't put it in a dishwasher? Yeah, Robin Axline: Yeah, if he used to sell them then maybe I don't know. Tita Lors: exactly. So what do you think about this guy, this husband? If he's not Robin Axline: I think Tita Lors: AI. Robin Axline: yeah, if he's not hey, I I feel like he's being more petty because he's not listening to her. If she kept telling him to take care of it and he just kept doing stuff like that seems a little like disrespectful in a way. Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. Yeah, I agree. Robin Axline: And then like I was saying, like for him to just get all like butthurt at the end, be like you're hiding it from me. Yeah, well you're acting like butt no, I'm just kidding. Kind of. Tita Lors: You're treating me like a kid. Yeah. Well that's what a lot of people are saying actually. Like you act like a kid, you get treated like a kid. Robin Axline: Mm, yeah. I mean I I understand like you know, i if it's a good knife he's gonna want to use it, but if he doesn't respect it then it's like what is he doing? Use a cheap one. So I Tita Lors: Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Robin Axline: I don't really blame her, actually. Lord, how awful. I didn't mean to gender it. Tita Lors: No, it's okay. It's easy to assume. Robin Axline: but okay, the this person Tita Lors: Yeah. Robin Axline: doesn't seem as wrong or not the I don't feel like they're the asshole, personally. Tita Lors: Yeah. I don't think so either. And even if they were, I think justified. Mm-hmm. Robin Axline: Yeah. Tita Lors: But they're not because there are other knives. If that was the only knife that existed in your house and you kept hiding it. Yeah, that'd be crazy. Robin Axline: That'd be pretty whack. Tita Lors: Like maybe you'll do that. But you have other knives. There are cheaper knives. There's probably scissors that you can also use to do those things. Like Be respectful. This you know, this is why we can't have expensive things. Robin Axline: Clearly. Yeah, or he should just buy like one of those butcher block kits that has a whole bunch himself. Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. Which they probably have one, right? If they said there's cheaper knives. Yeah. But no, he wants the fancy one. No, he doesn't. Robin Axline: And he knows that it was a gift from her dad. I mean that I don't know. The whole thing is just it's really hard for me to not side with the other side of the couple, so mmhmm. Tita Lors: The OP, yeah. Yeah. And I was thinking too I don't know what I was thinking, but I am gonna say that I think I saw a similar story somewhere, but it was about scissors. Robin Axline: Huh. okay. So maybe AI copied that and then wrote it about a knife. No. Tita Lors: Yeah. Maybe. Yeah. But for the scissors it was like, well, you know, he they kept using it, so I put a lock on it. And there's like a specific kind of lock that works perfect for scissors, so you can't use them. Yeah. Yeah. Robin Axline: Scissors. Random, but kind of funny. Tita Lors: Yep. Okay. That is, that was really short. Hold on. I'm gonna find another one. I have I know I have a bunch like on layaway. Robin Axline: Way fun lay away. Speaking of retail. Tita Lors: Ooh, okay. I haven't read this, So this is from R slash Petty Revenge by the Brontosaurus and it's from five hours ago. Robin Axline: Okay. Tita Lors: There is a dangerous driver in my neighborhood. He absolutely flies down my street. There are frequently children playing on the sidewalks and running across the street between houses. I'm frequently worried one of them is going to be hit. He also, twice this year, has blown through the stop sign, nearly hitting my car. In April, while walking my dog, I saw this same car fly through the stop sign and pull into his garage. He may be a terrible driver, but he had a beautiful lawn. So, twice a day, I walk my dog past his house. This has always been the routine, but now on the shelf next to the poop bags, I have a package of peppermint seeds. As I walk past his house, I subtly sprinkle or flick these tiny seeds onto his lawn. For those who don't for those who don't know, mint is a very prolific grower and an aggressive spreader. Even a tiny fragment of root can grow into a new plant. Once roots yeah, have you tried this? Robin Axline: yeah, it propagates so easily, yeah. Tita Lors: Yeah. So once roots are in the soil, it will continue to multiply until every last bit of root is removed. His once perfect grass has been covered in little plants all summer. It looks like he's spring and mowing, but not pulling it up by the roots. So next year he'll have twice as much. no. Yeah. Edit because this has been asked frequently. I have tried to get a speed survey or speed bump installed, but needs seventy five percent approval from the neighborhood and we f and we fund it. Police have promised increased patrols which which turns out to be which turns out to have been a single cruiser at six AM. That's it. That's all the safety of children in a neighborhood deserves. Just one. Robin Axline: I think like it is kind of messed up to if you knowingly are basically planting kind of like a weed somebody's Tita Lors: Yeah. Robin Axline: lawn. It's also kind of funny. Tita Lors: I think it's super funny. I don't think it's it's petty, but also no one's actually getting hurt. You know? Unlike Robin Axline: Right. Yeah. Tita Lors: unlike what they're doing, someone's actually getting hurt. And that's like or potentially could get hurt. And that's not okay. Robin Axline: Yeah. Yeah. I mean it's yeah, it doesn't equal the other thing. That's that's for sure. I mean it's Tita Lors: Yeah. Robin Axline: definitely like a kind of a petty thing to do, but on the other hand it didn't like you said, it didn't hurt anybody. Yeah. Tita Lors: And it's safe. So I would rather they do that than anything else. Like that's crazy. Robin Axline: yeah, I have one. Tita Lors: Nice, but damn. Robin Axline: I know. Okay. So h hi period. Tita Lors: Ha ha ha. Robin Axline: So there was this event at a bar and that I was planning to go to this weekend, and I asked this guy to be my date that night, so as I don't like being alone in crowded, unfamiliar places. At first he seemed quite enthusiastic as he messaged me a lot about it. One time he casually mentioned how expensive going out in New York City has become, which is true by the way. I went, no worry, I'll pick up the tab and we will have a good time. I generally did not think of it as a big deal since I am not the most frugal person in the world. So the night before our supposed date, I wanted to confirm everything and messaged him that, well, this is in quotations, we can also grab something to eat beforehand. What kind of food do you like? He got back to me saying there's a sushi place in Queens he wants to try. Initially, I was struck this being bizarre. Initially I was struck this being bizarre. As the bar is in the West Village. what? And if we do what he wants, I'd have to forfeit most of the night to be in Queens. And the only reason why we Okay. I was just Tita Lors: Wait, wait, wait, wait. I'm confused. Robin Axline: gonna yeah, so basically they're like going to this party And they're like, if you want to get food beforehand, that would be I'm down or something. And the guy's like, I wanna get sushi in Queens But Tita Lors: Uh-huh. Robin Axline: the West Village is in Manhattan and you'd have to take like a couple trains probably to get I don't know where in Queens, but Queens is not close to the West Village. Tita Lors: Yeah, that seems okay. I feel like we have to know New York geography here. Robin Axline: Yeah, yeah. I as I was saying it I was like, wait, time out Tita Lors: Ha ha Robin Axline: Just in case. Tita Lors: Okay, so he wants to go, let's say wit is this like a north-south situation? Sorry. Robin Axline: So Tita Lors: Okay. Robin Axline: on the right is Queens Tita Lors: Mm. Robin Axline: and then on the left is the West Village. yeah. So look at public transport. Yeah, Tita Lors: An hour and a half public transport? Robin Axline: at least according to this. Tita Lors: And they're trying to get food. Nah. Robin Axline: I mean, that's right now is probably like rush hour two, but still, still. Like Tita Lors: Yeah. Uh-huh. Robin Axline: it's not an easy jaunt to Tita Lors: Yeah. It's not just a quick bloop over. Robin Axline: No, no. So that's why the OP's like, this is weird. Tita Lors: Yes, that is. Robin Axline: And plus there's like tons of good sushi e like everywhere basically. Tita Lors: Yeah. Like I mean, I get being a snob, but Robin Axline: Yeah, but I'm sure like especially in Manhattan you could find something better than Queens. Unless it's like a really fancy place. But anyways, okay. Yeah. Tita Lors: Uh-huh. But like which what number date is this? Robin Axline: This is the first date. Tita Lors: First date? Robin Axline: Yeah, I think I asked this guy to be my date that night, so don't it just says this guy. Tita Lors: Okay. Okay, keep going. Yeah. Robin Axline: So this is already really weird. okay, so he got back to me saying there's a sushi place in Queens he wants to try. Initially I was struck this being bizarre as the bar is in the West Village, and if we do what he wants, I'd have to forfeit most of the night to be in Queens. And the only reason why we were even hanging out is because I wanted to go to this bar. So I made a logical response suggesting we could get something else near the bar. Yeah. That's what I was Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. Yes, sounds Robin Axline: thinking. Tita Lors: sane. Robin Axline: So he became unresponsive. When I pressed for a confirmation from him for the itinerary, he said he needed to think about it. At yeah, we're not going anywhere now. Tita Lors: Mm, no, you don't, 'cause we're not going anywhere. We're not going out, so there's really nothing for you to think about. I'll just call my home girl and I'll go to the bar with her. Robin Axline: Ours off the table. Yeah. Totally. And especially this has like said, I'm not a frugal person. So they're like, they were down to pick up the check and everything. So Tita Lors: Yeah. Robin Axline: that's even more weird. But so at this point, I realize he really takes me for a meal ticket. He's trying to get me catapulted. He's trying to get me capitulated. God. He's trying to get me capitulated to his demands, as it's already Friday night, and I am running out of options of people still free and available. Which, as a matter of fact, I was. He really derailed my plan, and I pulled up my phone and booked myself a four hundred dollar seventeen course omakasi at a very nice place in the village. I had blast with the insanely delicious meal, and I posted the picture of the sushi to my Instagram stories. He messaged me later claiming he Sorry, and he got busy with family, blah blah blah. I blocked him immediately. Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. Yeah, womp. So what I gather potentially is that he wanted to eat at that specific place and was hoping that she would pay for it. Or that they would pay for it. Is the OP male or female? Robin Axline: I didn't it doesn't say. But the meme Tita Lors: Okay. Robin Axline: is Andrew, so it's probably a dude. Yeah, he Tita Lors: okay, so they he they. Yeah, so Robin Axline: they, yeah. Tita Lors: yeah, so this guy that he asked on a date was hoping that the other one would just say, Okay, let's do whatever you wanna do and I'll pay for the super expensive dinner where you wanted to go. Robin Axline: Right, 'cause it even says one time he casually mentioned how expensive going out in New York City has become and then I said, No worries, I'll pick up the tab and we'll just have a good time And then that's when he suggested this sushi place. So that seems pretty sus. Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. It is. my gosh. Lame. I know. I'm glad that this person actually went and got dinner for themselves. Like Robin Axline: Totally. I mean that's like a big d drop of four hundred dollars, but hey, they deserved it. Tita Lors: Yeah. It is. But if they can afford it, yeah. Robin Axline: Right. Sounds like they can, so Tita Lors: Yeah. Also, that's so lame. Like date horror stories are s whoa. The light is crazy. I Robin Axline: Whoa there. That was crazy. Tita Lors: know. Man, that just really ticks me off because dating is already hard enough as it is. And if you if you can't communicate, just stop. Like you obviously don't want to be in the dating scene because dating requires communication. Some some bit of communication. Like when I was single, so annoying. So I met this person at Stagecoach. real cute, like neat, cute, whatever. Met them at stagecoach. They were really cool or they seemed really cool. I gave them my number and then we like talked for a little and then we scheduled a date. It was going to be at this bar near my place. I didn't know where they lived. So Like the time like the time's getting closer, so and I didn't hear from them at all. And I'm texting, yeah, and I'm like, hey, you know, well, I'm getting ready now, can't wait to see you soon. No response. And I was like, Okay, you know, I imagine maybe you're in traffic, blah blah blah, just text me when you arrive or when you park. Parking can be crazy in this area. I can help you out with that. Great. No response. Fifteen minutes later, I'm like, Okay, well, I'm leaving. And so I'm like I'm leaving. If you are on your way, I hope you enjoy your night. And then I went to my cousin's house 'cause she was within walking distance and we like had a blast. And Robin Axline: Good call. Tita Lors: an hour later, Robin, an hour later, this person's like texting and calling me with Some excuse of like, I just woke up, blah blah blah. I live in the inland empire. I am like hauling my butt down there. I'll be there in like this many minutes. I hope you're still there. No, dumbass. Who do you think I am? Who does that? Who in their right mind sits at a bar by themselves to be stood up? And I'm sorry, it doesn't take me an hour to find out that I'm being stood up. Robin Axline: Uh-huh. For sure. Yeah. Tita Lors: I'm not gonna sit there by my if I'm sitting at a bar by myself for an hour, I've met somebody else. And we are now on a date and I no longer need to spend time with you. Robin Axline: That's hilarious. Tita Lors: You think I'm waiting for your ass? No. What? Robin Axline: We are on a date. I love that. gosh. Tita Lors: If you show up, you are now interrupting my new date. Like this is not happening. Yeah. Robin Axline: Mm. Yes. No, that's crazy. Tita Lors: Right? I know. And I'm like, I know how long it takes to get from where you live to where I am. And it's not that much time. Robin Axline: Man, that's so d so messed up. Tita Lors: Yeah. And then they're like texting or calling. I'm here. Are you still here? No, stupid. I told you. Enjoy your night. I will not be a part of it. What the heck is wrong with people? Robin Axline: don't know. It just I I don't know. It seems like it's I don't wanna sound like you know, kids today or something, but no. I Tita Lors: Ha ha. Robin Axline: guess it's always been kinda bad. It's just a lot of people just have like no regard anymore, I feel like. It's just so hard out Tita Lors: Yeah. Robin Axline: there. Tita Lors: I know, I feel bad for people who are still dating. Like, part of me was like maybe I'm being an ass 'cause it's possible that they just woke up, but also you knew you had a date. Alarm clocks. Yeah. You it it doesn't even have to be your phone, a literal physical alarm clock, a watch. Telling somebody, hey, I'm about to go to sleep, but I have a date at this time and I need to leave the door, be out the door by this time, please make sure that I'm awake. There's so many if it if you cared enough about this date, about this person or whatever, first date, second date, fifty years in date, you don't fall asleep without an alarm. Robin Axline: Yeah. Especially like somebody that you connected with IRL. It's not even like you didn't meet ever. Tita Lors: Yeah. I was like, nah, I don't I don't play those games. And I think I would have responded differently if they had been like apologies. Right? Like, I'm so sorry. I I I fell asleep. That's on me. you know, can we try again another day? And, you know, I will be there on time, blah blah blah. or like, I don't know. Just something like that. Some accountab accountability and a plan. Robin Axline: Yeah. And I feel like what I was gonna say is like the effort that you made to like say, Hey, I can help you with parking, all this like really nice sounding text messages and then to get that is really backwards. So Tita Lors: Yeah. I dunno. There's a small part of me that thinks that I was being a dick, but also I don't care. I'm not gonna wait around somewhere for an hour. Like I said. Robin Axline: No, I don't think I I don't think that's for you, so and they missed out. Tita Lors: Yeah. Or for anybody viewed. Robin Axline: Yeah, definitely not. yeah, but it's it's funny how similar that is to this one kind of Like it's so dumb because that person didn't get back to them and then said, like, I have to think about it. It's like, what do you have to think about? Or like what's and then to be like, I have family stuff. It's like, Yeah, give me a break. Now you're just No. Yep. Tita Lors: No, you didn't ha no, there wasn't anything to think about. You just weren't getting your way and you were hoping that they would do what you wanted. Robin Axline: Yeah. And then like an unreasonable request too. It's just like so weird. Tita Lors: Yeah, I'm trying to think of like the equivalent in California. It would be like saying, Robin Axline: Wallah. Tita Lors: do you w do you wanna go get drinks in like Long Beach and then saying, Yeah, but you know, can we go eat at this place in Santa Monica first? Robin Axline: my god, that would be insane. That would be insane. Or Tita Lors: Right? Yeah, no. Robin Axline: like yeah, that that's a good one. Santa Monica's the worst traffic. That's horrible. Tita Lors: Exactly. And trying to do that in rush hour? Nah. You can go. If you really want sushi, how about you go get sushi there and meet me at the bar when you're done. Robin Axline: Yeah. Yeah. I mean even like closer places like I don't know, say like you're in Beverly Hills and y you wanna go to dinner in downtown LA or something. Tita Lors: Ha ha. Robin Axline: I don't know. That would be pretty nuts too. Tita Lors: That would be crazy. But that's only crazy because of like traffic. What what time are we trying to go? Robin Axline: Yeah. Yeah. gosh. Tita Lors: Yeah, 'cause no, I for sure would not do it. If I was in Beverly Hills and you wanted to me that's so close. Like if we look on a map, it looks so close. But that is not a fun drive. Even if you take all side streets. Robin Axline: Yeah, it still like the time that it would take would be ridiculous. I'd be Tita Lors: Yeah. no. I don't think I'd want to do that. Robin Axline: like, if I really liked the person. I'd be like, can we meet somewhere like halfway or something? Tita Lors: No, but like I'm also trying to think where is OP coming from and where is the guy coming from? Like are they both coming from the same place or are they coming from different places? Because it would also be different, like let's say I lived in again, I lived in Long Beach and that person lived in Santa Monica, then right like Robin Axline: Yeah. Tita Lors: that that's good then then it's a question of where do we want to end our night? Robin Axline: Yeah, if things got spicy, then true. So many questions. Tita Lors: Mm. Yeah. So I guess it just depends. But if I work somewhere in between those two places, I don't know, that's a long drive. Yeah, and I imagine people want to go home first and get ready and then go on the date. No, I'm not doing it. Robin Axline: Yeah. Not doing yeah, 'cause you'd want to look good and yeah, no. gosh. And yeah, I know I also thought about that person that said they were asleep. Like that they not wanna worry about how they were gonna look on this date or like Yeah, shower, yeah, brush your hair. Tita Lors: You care, like Nah. Robin Axline: Doesn't sound like it. Tita Lors: Yeah, I I have definitely woken up late to be places or to be at a date, but not so late that I look like crap. Robin Axline: I'm imagining this person with like bed head and disheveled clothing. Tita Lors: Yeah, no. That's just poor planning. I would not go to sleep right before a date. Robin Axline: No. Yeah, I mean yeah, unless you have like narcolepsy or something. Tita Lors: Yeah. Or even like let's just It's just I my god, I could talk about this forever. It's just not Anyways, let's rate this one. All right, let's go on the first one. Okay. We're really different in the first one. The manager one? Yeah. So I This is the one with the balls, right? She heated up his balls. Robin Axline: Yeah. Tita Lors: He she warmed his balls. Yeah. I was like, is it an overreaction? No, so I wanted to keep it under five, but like I did think it was trivial because when we talked about how like it's like nothing happened, so it's pretty trivial, right? His balls were warmed. He didn't get any sort of like consequence. Nothing really he didn't feel punished. Nothing changed for him. Yeah. So it was like meh. yeah. And then let's see. What do you think? well, yeah, well. Robin Axline: That's what think. Tita Lors: Yeah, that's what you think. There it is. Yeah. what about Yeah, for the Mm-hmm. Robin Axline: But yeah, you are right. Like nothing happened to him. It's just he got sweaty. Tita Lors: Yeah. we got really different scores for spiteful behavior for the kitchen knife one. Yeah, mine was way higher than yours. I mean, I think it's it's spiteful because now he can't use it. Robin Axline: Yeah, that's true. That's true. I guess because I thought like it wa like she it wasn't that crazy of a thing to do. Like it I don't know, to me it just was like almost like common sense. Like he can't handle the knife, then he doesn't get to have it. Yeah, you can't Tita Lors: To hide the knife. You can't handle the knife. Robin Axline: handle those knives. Yeah. You can't handle the knife. Tita Lors: Okay. We're we're pretty together on the mint seed one. I think I still tend to score a little bit higher. And then I like we're really different on the dating one. We're all over the place. Yeah, we're not in sync today. Why did you not? So I Robin Axline: What Tita Lors: J this is tell me why you decided on the lower score for the overreaction. 'Cause this is the one that I was like, I think I'm wrong maybe. I think that I scored too high, like for sure. I think I should have Robin Axline: On the overreaction? Tita Lors: Yeah, for the the the date one, the last one, I scored Robin Axline: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Tita Lors: it really high for overreaction. Robin Axline: Yeah. I guess the reason I did lower is because like given what the OP said about like they set up a date and all this, it wasn't that much of an overreaction 'cause it was like thing that happens to people that sucks. But Tita Lors: Yeah. Yeah, it's not an overreaction to be like, Okay, well then I'm gonna go eat somewhere else. Yeah. Robin Axline: Yeah. Like, all right, you you blew it, buddy. Tita Lors: I think I agree with you. Should we be able to change our scores or it's like that's just how it is? That's how the cookie crumples. Robin Axline: Hm, I don't know. I don't know. 'Cause I would change one of those ones that I did kinda low up there too, if we were allowed to change. Tita Lors: I think it's gotta be just cookie crumbles and we gotta be better about like talking about our scores in between each. Okay. Well Robin Axline: Yeah. Yeah. How about Yeah, let's do that instead. Tita Lors: Okay, so co it's how the cookie crumbles we might change it next week. Okay. You don't think that it's spiteful to be like, well you wanted sushi and I got sushi. 'Cause you couldn't respond to a simple text message to coordinate and communicate about this date. So I went and got myself sushi. Not in f far frickin' away Queen's town from where I am. Yeah. Robin Axline: Queens. Yeah, I mean that's true, and she knew that he followed her, I guess. So Tita Lors: Yeah. Yeah. Robin Axline: I guess that is pretty spiteful. And then she blocked him, I think, right? Or Tita Lors: Okay. He well they were all he's, right? Robin Axline: Or not this again. the story's okay. I blocked him immediately, yes. Tita Lors: Yes. Robin Axline: yes, Andrew, which could be Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. Robin Axline: who knows. So yes, he blocked him, potentially. Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. Alright. Well, yeah. Or they, whichever. Okay, are we ready? Drumroll, please. The winner of these four is. This is so close. But the winner is the date. the Omakasa date by like point two five. Yeah, it was between it they were both your stories. It was between the first one or the last one. Robin Axline: I mean the all those stories were pretty funny today, I think. Tita Lors: I think so too. And I like how we've decided on the trivial. like the more trivial, the higher the score. Robin Axline: Same, same. Makes a lot more sense. Tita Lors: It does. Okay. Well there you have it, everyone. It took us a minute, but we got there. We have a winner. Don't mess with p like if you're gonna go on a date with people, then communicate. It is. It really it. It's the literal least you could do. All right. But what did you all think? Did we get it right? Did we get it wrong? Would you have scored things differently? if you have a petty story that you want us to read on the podcast, please reach out to us. Once again we have the T line. my god, I just realized that you're the supposed to be the one who's doing these things, but I'm gonna do it for you. We have the Robin Axline: Huh. Tita Lors: I know I did I tell you when I was in California I went to look a f couple of different sushi places and they were so good. It was delicious. I'm so jealous of my previous self. I didn't enjoy it enough. I should have gone more often. Robin Axline: Mm-hmm. That's that's what they all say.
