- 0:00QB rankings, World Cup heroes, and so much,
- 0:03so much, so much more. It's Tuesday and you're with your
- 0:06friends. We're The Regulars. I'm Cody Decker. I'm Tanya Ray Fox.
- 0:10Cheers.
- 0:18A Tuesday night, and this time I have nothing
- 0:22to do with it. No, it's my fault. I did get
- 0:26a bacterial lung infection, so every
- 0:31time I laugh I'm gonna cough. Good, good, good. However, I have been on antibiotics
- 0:34for days now. Nice. Uh, I figured probably give it one more
- 0:38cycle before we came into the studio. Um, I've been— I
- 0:42actually like have not had this level of— like, I can't remember the last time
- 0:45I had a cough where I was like coughing up mucus.
- 0:49Is it possible you're the patient zero right now? Well, I hope not.
- 0:53Patient zero for what? I don't know. I just saw the movie Outbreak the other
- 0:55day just because it happened to be on like TNT, because of course it was.
- 0:58And, and it just made me immediately think of you. That's why we didn't do
- 1:01the show yesterday. I actually sent you a text going like, hey buddy, so I
- 1:05know you're not feeling well and yada yada yada. What do you say maybe you
- 1:08take the day off? And you're like, that's such a great idea. You're such a
- 1:11good friend. I know you— that is kind of how it went.
- 1:15Exactly. I mean, really, I, I will say if I am patient zero,
- 1:18good news is Azithromycin will work. So technically
- 1:23we're good. We're in the clear. But yeah, it's— it was really rough. Like,
- 1:27I don't think I realized how sick I was until I started feeling better.
- 1:30And then my best friend was like, oh, you are like a new person.
- 1:33Like, that, that stuff helped really quick. So we're back at it and we
- 1:38are going to be remote doing remote shows together. Yeah. And weeks,
- 1:42it's going to be great. It's actually going to be a little throwback for me
- 1:44because it gives me a chance to kind of do like literally hands-on TV producing
- 1:48that I haven't done in a little bit. Mocha. Fucking obsolete.
- 1:52Yeah, we, we're out for 2 weeks. We're giving him a summer break. Yeah,
- 1:56you fucking suck it. Yeah, I'm actually gonna— I'm gonna miss Mocha a
- 2:00lot. I'm gonna miss— I'm gonna miss the studio. Um, doing, uh, 2 weeks in
- 2:03Massachusetts. It's my little sister's birthday, it's my mom's
- 2:07birthday, it's, you know, there's just got stuff going down. I might be doing a,
- 2:11um, an event with more— the Governor Maura Healey at Gillette
- 2:15during Patriots training camp. Very cool. So waiting to hear from the,
- 2:19um, the dude who does her, uh her events. But yeah, there's just—
- 2:23and then I would like to be hanging around by the pool with the dog.
- 2:26I don't blame you. I don't blame you. You know, I'm glad you're feeling better.
- 2:29I'm glad you're getting ready for a vacation. But yeah, we will be doing the
- 2:31regulars during those, uh, 2 weeks on remote. So it's just gonna look a little
- 2:35different, but it's nothing we actually haven't kind of done before. I did, I did
- 2:39what, 3 months of Beetle and Decker exactly this way? Yeah. So I'm actually—
- 2:43it's gonna be like flexing the old muscles again. I brought a better ring light
- 2:46this time. I brought, I brought a mic. I have both my little mic,
- 2:49which you made fun of, but I like that mic. And I brought another mic.
- 2:51You know, I have traveled mics. I will loan you a travel mic. No,
- 2:55I have a mic that I'm bringing, an actual mic. Okay. Yeah. Is it a
- 2:59good mic? Yeah. What does it look like? A microphone. It looks like an actual
- 3:02microphone. Looks like an actual mic? Yeah, I used to podcast with it. Okay.
- 3:05Yeah. You know, I have other mics if you want to look like cooler.
- 3:07I think more professional. I think this is perfect. It's a microphone. I even have
- 3:10an extra RE20 that you can go and an adapter with.
- 3:14Uh, nothing's gonna look that professional from my mom's, um,
- 3:17witch den. So that's gonna look very professional. Well, yeah, I mean, but like know,
- 3:22how far are you from Salem? Ah, about an hour and change.
- 3:26Yeah. Do you guys like feel it when you drive by? I— you don't
- 3:30drive by it. It's up north of— like, I never am up there. It's like
- 3:33up north of— yeah, yeah, you have to, you have to go out of your
- 3:36way to go to Salem. I know you guys. Yeah, you're not fooling anybody.
- 3:39Anyways, let's go ahead and get to the football of all, because,
- 3:42uh, Tanya, headline number 1,
- 3:46um QB ranking came out from, um,
- 3:50oh Jesus, hold on, give me one sec. This makes me so fucking uncomfortable when
- 3:54I have to deal with bullshit.
- 3:58QB ranking just came out from like executives.
- 4:01Oh my God. And, um, what can I say? They're bullshit.
- 4:05There's some bullshit on here. I'm really glad you stretched. I'm stretched.
- 4:08I appreciate that. Fucking go tell the people what the fuck is going on.
- 4:12Okay, uh, we're not happy. So this is not just— this was obviously
- 4:17published by ESPN and it has been pushed out by ESPN, but it
- 4:21is actually as ranked by coaches, executives, and scouts. So this is
- 4:24the NFL establishment, uh, from whom,
- 4:28uh, we don't have exactly— no names— that information.
- 4:31What teams? It doesn't seem like they're the best-run teams by what
- 4:35we're seeing here, but, um, this is their annual
- 4:38ranking of the top 10 NFL quarterbacks. Uh,
- 4:41Mocha, go ahead and throw that up so Cody and I can get worked
- 4:46up As we go here now. Beautiful. Josh Allen.
- 4:50Number 1, baby. Number 1 quarterback. Number 1,
- 4:53baby. We love ourselves some Josh Allen.
- 4:57And we are going to— we're going to have a whole conversation about this top
- 5:015 in general. Number 1, baby. Rounding out
- 5:05the back half of this top 10 is Dak Prescott.
- 5:09Justin Herbert, who's never won a playoff game. Ooh,
- 5:12he's the best thrower of the old pigskin, they say.
- 5:162 white guys until the calendar turns to January,
- 5:20of course. But before that, he's one of the best throwers of the old pigskin.
- 5:24I don't know what Caleb Williams did to land himself behind Drake
- 5:28Maye, but you know what? Well, you know, I have half
- 5:32of an idea. Do you? Half of one. Yeah.
- 5:35So there you go. How did Lamar Jackson be 5? How did that
- 5:39happen? So you know who you're talking to. All right, never mind. I know
- 5:43exactly how it happened. You know who you're talking to right now? Lamar Jackson.
- 5:48So this is— let's just set aside the
- 5:51Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes of it all. Let's just set it aside real quick.
- 5:55Let's do that. We'll start at 3. Why not? Matthew Stafford
- 5:59just won an MVP. Sure did. A historic
- 6:03fucking year for Matthew Stafford. Great. Yeah. Not a historic
- 6:07MVP. A historic year for him. Yeah. Yeah. Pretty like average
- 6:11year by MVP standards. It wasn't like it was a very easy— but for him
- 6:14it was a phenomenal, phenomenal year. And great because he's one of the— he he's
- 6:18one of the oldest quarterbacks in the league. I mean, I think if, if Aaron
- 6:21Rodgers weren't playing, he'd be the oldest, would he not? I believe so. So,
- 6:23um, you know, at his age, wins his
- 6:27first MVP. He's been a good, really great quarterback for a long time. Yes.
- 6:313— the 3rd best quarterback in the NFL is crazy.
- 6:35There— and here's the thing, is like Lamar Jackson,
- 6:392 spots below him, has more MVPs. Sure does. Is much
- 6:43younger. It is. Has already one
- 6:48of the greatest quarter passer ratings we've ever seen from an NFL quarterback, is the
- 6:52best runner we've ever seen from an NFL quarterback. Yeah, he's really good.
- 6:55So I don't know why. I don't know where that all comes from.
- 7:00Okay. Recency bias with the old man. You want to give him his due?
- 7:05Fine. Okay. I'm going to ask you a question. Sure. I'm going
- 7:09to listen. What the fuck is Joe Burrow? Doing at number 4
- 7:13ahead of Lamar Jackson? No fucking idea.
- 7:17Ahead of Lamar Jackson? Truly. Here's my honest answer to you. No fucking
- 7:21idea. No clue. No clue how that could possibly
- 7:24be a thing. I don't know what numbers you're conjuring up. I don't know how
- 7:28you can ever manipulate any of these numbers. If you want to sit here
- 7:31and tell me with a straight face that Lamar Jackson
- 7:35is injury-prone because he sometimes gets hurt, which is true, he does sometimes get hurt.
- 7:40You're with a straight face going to say that to me and put Joe
- 7:43fucking Burrow, who I haven't seen since he was in the Super
- 7:47Bowl, fucking what, 4 years ago? Yeah. Hasn't been healthy. Let's be
- 7:51real clear. Is number 3 on this list.
- 7:55That, ladies and gentlemen, is batshit to me. Yes,
- 7:59that is that. That's the part that's really pissing me off
- 8:03because like, is Joe Burrow an excellent quarterback? Absolutely. Yes.
- 8:06Is there an argument if he's behind Lamar Jackson to be top 5?
- 8:10Sure. But you can't— you absolutely cannot
- 8:15put him ahead of Lamar Jackson in any metric,
- 8:18in any single way. And here's the thing is, you know, a lot of people—
- 8:21one of the guys that I follow on Threads who I really respect has
- 8:27talked about how he thinks, you know, Joe Burrow is the best, like,
- 8:31pocket passer quarterback, like just the actual—
- 8:34his ability to throw the ball, his, his downfield
- 8:39vision, all that stuff. Okay. I could not agree more. Part of my issue
- 8:43with Joe Burrow is that the reason that
- 8:47he gets hurt so much and why that offensive line is constantly set up to
- 8:49fail is because he takes 97% of his fucking snaps out of shotgun.
- 8:53And do you know what happens to the offensive line when, when your quarterback
- 8:57is basically 100% of the time taking, taking the ball in shotgun.
- 9:02Everybody knows on the defense that the ball's going into the hand of
- 9:05the quarterback. When you don't have play action and you're not doing run options and
- 9:08you're always, always snapping it to the fucking quarterback, they can rush
- 9:12the fucking quarterback. They know where the ball is going and it's so much easier.
- 9:15It makes it very difficult on the offensive line. And that's
- 9:19not just a Zach Taylor call. That's not just an offense call. That is a
- 9:22call that is being made specifically by Joe Burrow because he prefers
- 9:26to operate in that system. And Zach Taylor lets him.
- 9:29And so I don't feel bad for him with his offensive line. He doesn't set
- 9:33them up for success. And then he also sets himself up to get hurt all
- 9:36the time because the ball's constantly in his fucking hands. I'm tired of it.
- 9:39Thank you for letting me get that off my chest. You're welcome. I think it
- 9:42was very well-worded, and I think we all feel better, and now we are better
- 9:45as people. And also, I don't even want
- 9:48to be that hard on, on, uh, Joe Burrow right now because right
- 9:52below Right below him is perhaps one of
- 9:55the most overrated quarterbacks we've ever fucking talked about in the history of Dak.
- 10:00No. Who? Fucking Justin Herbert. Oh,
- 10:03Justin Herbert at number 7. Listen, most beautiful thrower of
- 10:08the football, they say. Is he? I said they say. I am not
- 10:11they. No, I am someone who has to listen to they every
- 10:16fucking year. And they seem to be
- 10:20fooled every year about what happens in January with Justin
- 10:23Herbert. They're not fooled. And that's the thing. Is like, this, this at this point
- 10:26is— you cannot convince me that this is a joke. You cannot convince me it's
- 10:30not white supremacist propaganda. No, this is a long-form comedy
- 10:33bit. I'm— this is the only thing I can come up with. Like, this is
- 10:37seriously like, you know that Seinfeld episode? Yeah, you know the episode
- 10:41of the hello episode?
- 10:44There's an episode where Jerry meets a girl and it's all simply about hello.
- 10:48He was talking about her belly button and it said— it came out and it
- 10:51was like saying Hello! And it's all about this stupid joke
- 10:55that is not funny. Okay. And as the show keeps going on,
- 10:58they start saying it to each other over and over again when they walk into
- 11:01a room. Hello! Hello! And the joke is
- 11:05not funny. Okay. Jerry's girlfriend finds out and she says, you gotta stop doing
- 11:09this. She's like, it's hilarious. She's like, it is not funny. Yeah. And it goes—
- 11:12and the whole thing is about whether or not he's gonna go to the girl
- 11:15or keep the joke. And he runs to her door slow motion
- 11:19like it's this romantic thing of the man opening the door. She goes,
- 11:21Jerry, hello! And the place
- 11:25erupts with laughter. It is a long-form joke is what
- 11:29Justin Herbert is. I'm waiting for it to be funny. I think that that's actually
- 11:34an apropos comparison. That's the only thing I'm waiting for,
- 11:37because there— it— there's no explanation for
- 11:40this at this point. To put— like, I need you to understand,
- 11:44they put him— you— we talked about this in pre-show— they put Justin
- 11:48Herbert above Sam Darnold, who's had 2 14-win
- 11:53seasons in a row, in a row, just won the Super Bowl.
- 11:56He was an MVP contender all year. Yes, he was.
- 12:00They put him above Jalen Hurts, who's played in 2 Super Bowls,
- 12:04has a Super Bowl MVP.
- 12:08Jalen Hurts wasn't even in the top 10. I would like you— I
- 12:13would like you to just hear me out, okay? This man has played
- 12:17in 3 playoff games. This is always the knock, always the knock on Lamar Jackson.
- 12:20But what about the playoffs? First of all, Lamar Jackson's played in far more playoff
- 12:24games than Justin Herbert's ever fucking sniffed. Secondly,
- 12:26let me just— 2 touchdowns,
- 12:314 picks. Yeah, he was sacked 6
- 12:36times in that game against the Patriots alone.
- 12:41In this offseason— in this postseason, 6 times.
- 12:45This dude is awful in the playoffs. It's not even
- 12:49like— it's not even like— like, you know when we watch, uh, like sometimes when
- 12:53you watch Lamar and Josh Allen lose in the playoffs and you're like, oh man,
- 12:55it wasn't their fault, right? Like, you're like, they did everything they could. Lamar had
- 12:59a great, uh, second half to hit. Like, he was incredible in the second half
- 13:02of his playoff game against the Steelers, and they, they could have won that game.
- 13:04There was a kick they could have won it on, whatever, right? That's not
- 13:08the case with Justin Herbert. Like, we are— we're lying to ourselves now. Have we—
- 13:12we have seen big number dudes, dudes who can throw
- 13:16the ball for a lot of touchdowns and a lot of yards in the regular
- 13:18season so many times. I don't know how many times we have to do this
- 13:21before you realize he doesn't fucking have it. And I like to
- 13:25go— but now we got to go back. We got to go back to 1
- 13:27and 2 real quick. Josh Allen,
- 13:31tell me, give me your best explanation.
- 13:35After this season. Yeah. How you put Josh
- 13:39Allen over Patrick Mahomes?
- 13:44Health.
- 13:48That's it. That's all I got. That's it. I'm sorry. That's all I got.
- 13:51One was healthy last year. One was not. That's it. I have nothing
- 13:55else. The healthiest top 5 quarterback and we're like, well,
- 13:58he's the guy. It doesn't matter that I— do you
- 14:02understand what they would— they would kick— they would— they would deport
- 14:06Jalen Hurts if he turned the ball over 4 times and
- 14:09lost the Eagles a game. They would deport him out of the country.
- 14:13Like, are you fucking kidding me? Are you kidding me?
- 14:17With every single performance we've ever seen from Patrick Mahomes
- 14:21across how many playoff games— the man has been in 5 Super Bowls,
- 14:24he's won 3 rings— we have never seen him Turned the
- 14:28ball over 4 times in a fucking playoff game. And because
- 14:31he had an— like, he was unhealthy and there were some struggles last year,
- 14:34we've knocked him down behind fucking can't-make-it-to-a-Super-Bowl
- 14:38McGee. He couldn't even make it to the fucking AFC Championship Game.
- 14:42You couldn't beat the Broncos. That offense was— that Broncos
- 14:46offense was fucking terrible. Couldn't beat them to
- 14:50make the AFC Championship Game. Oh my God,
- 14:54I feel like I'm losing my mind. I feel like I am going
- 14:58crazy. And here's the thing, it is— it— there is no explanation
- 15:01for this anymore that isn't just outright—
- 15:06it's just outright racism. No, let's slow down. Give me a second. Let me look
- 15:10at this list again. That's a white guy. It's a white guy.
- 15:143 white guys. 4 white guys. 5 white guys.
- 15:186 white guys. Yeah, that's 6 completely full-on
- 15:22white guys. Like, how are you gonna put Jared? And, and then they leave off
- 15:26your— they leave off your guy. If you're gonna pin us with all these white
- 15:29dudes, you're not even gonna give us Sam Darnold? I'm kind of wild. That's kind
- 15:32of wild to me. Like, like, you could have definitely taken Jared Goff out of
- 15:35here. You could take Drake Maye out of here. I am a Patriots fan.
- 15:38There's no world where you came out of last season
- 15:42and think Drake Maye is better than Caleb Williams.
- 15:45Oh, come on. That's not— how did— that's insane.
- 15:49Fine, put Drake May 10, but if you're gonna do that, you better put him
- 15:52behind Caleb Williams, because what are you fucking talking about? Yeah, Caleb Williams is a
- 15:56way different level. This is not even a question. Like, listen, this list is fucking
- 15:59insane. I, I truly do not get it. I, I mean, I know Drake May
- 16:03was in contention for the MVP, but that was based entirely on the
- 16:07regular season and a very easy schedule. Listen,
- 16:10as this list goes, obviously the thing that's driving me crazy is Josh Allen.
- 16:13It's not that I even dislike Josh Allen. I like Josh Allen a lot.
- 16:15But the fact that he's number 1 is so baffling to me because simply
- 16:20this— I was willing to do this with you guys 2 years ago, but at
- 16:23this point we saw that last playoff game. Yeah.
- 16:26How many times are we going to constantly say it's not his fault? He— that
- 16:30was his fault. It was his fault. And it's— and it's so
- 16:34interesting to me that he's the only one who doesn't get any blame for
- 16:38anything. Like, you're going to blame Patrick Mahomes for being hurt more than you're going
- 16:41to blame Josh Allen for playing like shit. That seems crazy. What should have happened
- 16:45is in order to, to knock Patrick Mahomes off of number 1, one of those
- 16:48other dudes had to do something crazy. Matthew Stafford can't take over. He can't
- 16:52overtake him. He's too old and his career is too, like,
- 16:55you know, done and finished, like in our— in the book, right? So like
- 16:59Matthew Stafford is never going to leapfrog him. For any of those dudes to leapfrog
- 17:02Patrick Mahomes, it should have taken an absolutely fucking insane postseason performance,
- 17:06like a real epic level performance. We did not get that from Josh Allen.
- 17:11Nope. And I wouldn't have even— and you know, I love Lamar Jackson. I wouldn't
- 17:14have— I would have Like, if I were making this, this list, I wouldn't
- 17:18have leapfrogged Lamar Jackson over Mahomes. So,
- 17:21like, I don't know. I've— I'm at a loss for words.
- 17:24But if this— Cody, I made a video. This is going to really
- 17:29kill you. I made a video before we went on air today.
- 17:33They did a segment today on ESPN where they said,
- 17:37whose job is more on the line? This was the ESPN
- 17:41First Take segment. Whose job is more on the line? I know it's going to
- 17:44be a winner. Jalen Hurts or Lamar Jackson?
- 17:50This is— we are not— the season hasn't started.
- 17:55They're not asking if Justin Herbert's job is on the line. Wow.
- 17:58They're not asking if Jared Goff's job is on the line.
- 18:01No. A guy with a Super Bowl MVP and another guy with
- 18:052, should be 3 MVPs. That's who they're arguing.
- 18:08Whose job is more on the line? What? Didn't you just
- 18:12tell me that Lamar Jackson's the 5th best quarterback in the NFL? What do you
- 18:15mean his job's on the line if he's the 5th best quarterback in the NFL?
- 18:17Does that mean the only people whose jobs are safe are Josh
- 18:21Allen and Patrick Mahomes? Honest question. We're talking about anymore.
- 18:25Forget everything else. Just honest question. Who are they replacing him with?
- 18:28Like, who's the better guy? Like, if his job's on the line,
- 18:31who's the guy behind him that is apparently going to, to take his
- 18:35place? Who's, who's Wally Pipping? Our good friend Lamar Jackson?
- 18:39Just, just sit right here. You just answer that question and I'll fucking
- 18:42not move until fucking someone answers it. How about that? Yeah, sound good?
- 18:46That's a very simple question that should be required. One answer,
- 18:50just one name. Give me a name. Well, I mean, Cody, they could
- 18:54get a younger, cheaper guy who's not gonna be such a problem
- 18:58in the locker room because, you know, he's such a problem.
- 19:02Him and Jalen Hurts. These 2 guys who we've never heard a single
- 19:05bad thing about— these guys are problems. Hey, hey, hey, hey,
- 19:09I've heard rumblings. I heard rumblings. They're anonymous rumblings
- 19:12that will never be named. Yeah, it's just a num— just
- 19:16anonymous. Yep, anonymous. Yeah,
- 19:20so anyways, this is gonna be a long fucking
- 19:24season, Cody. It's already a long fucking season. We haven't even gotten to
- 19:28the news of the season yet and we're already here. Yeah. Whose job is more
- 19:31on the line? Whose job is more on the line? Jalen Hurts and Lamar
- 19:36Jackson. I am a Raider fan. Happily would have taken either of them
- 19:40at any given moment. I would just like it on record, their MVPs and
- 19:44Super Bowl MVPs are not like in the distant past. They were both— These
- 19:48have all happened in the last 5 years. In the last 2 years. Apologies.
- 19:51In the last 2 years. Like, sorry, that felt like a— it feels like a
- 19:55century ago. This sports landscape and world that we're fucking in is
- 19:59happening almost in rapid speed and in quicksand at
- 20:02the same time. It's fucking wild. Time is a flat circle. 2024 was when they
- 20:06both won. Yeah, 2024. Jesus Christ. It's only 2026.
- 20:10Jesus. Yeah. Within the last 2 years. Good for you guys. You guys are fucking
- 20:12doing great. I just don't understand time anymore. Let's go to headline number 2.
- 20:17Speaking of time, this World Cup phenomenal match today.
- 20:21Surprising. I'm not going to lie to you. It wasn't that it was surprising,
- 20:24the outcome. I could have flipped a coin and kind of gone either way,
- 20:27but I firmly believed that France was going to win this. To this point,
- 20:30France has truly looked like the juggernaut final boss that no one's going
- 20:35to touch. And Mbappé, every single time he's been out there, has looked
- 20:38like the single best soccer player currently living on this planet. And today,
- 20:42neither of those things looked like the case. Mbappé,
- 20:45Dembélé, like they, they could not get any of their elite scorers going.
- 20:49This was one of those games where it was like if you had told me
- 20:54it was going to come down to extra time or like whatever else.
- 20:57Like, I thought it was going to be a really close game with scoring on
- 21:00both sides, at least a couple goals on both sides.
- 21:04Nope, it ended kind of with a thud. Like,
- 21:07it was, it was really a bummer. And to be honest,
- 21:11I do think Spain just has France's number.
- 21:14Like, Spain beats France more— has beat France more than any other country in the
- 21:18Euros, beat them wherever the last year's equivalent was. I'm sorry, I don't know the
- 21:21name of, but But yeah, I saw the— I saw the scores in the recent
- 21:24history. Yeah, you're not wrong. Flat out have their number. And they do. And they
- 21:27have that— I think that that's like, it's just one of those things that stylistically,
- 21:31like, both these teams play stylistically pretty similar over the course of the years.
- 21:34Like, things ebb and flow once the style of the
- 21:38game changes with eras, of course. But like, Spain is an excellent— they're— they
- 21:43can shut down defensively. They're excellent at passing the ball. Um,
- 21:46and it's just like kind of— I don't know, I— it's
- 21:50disappointing because I think for like the
- 21:54World Cup fans, best case scenario is,
- 21:58because of the star power of France, best case scenario is France
- 22:02against either England or Argentina because England and Argentina also have the
- 22:06star power. And it's like, that's, that's the big— for whatever reason, like,
- 22:10Lamine Yamal is not, not this— didn't become the star I thought he was going
- 22:13to become at the World Cup. And I, I don't think it's anything on him.
- 22:16He is an absolute superstar and he's going to continue to be a superstar.
- 22:19He's super lovable. His little brother is so cute. Have you seen him? I have
- 22:23a little bit. Yeah, yeah, super cute. Um, but like, I thought he was gonna
- 22:27kind of pop off at this, um, World Cup, and, and there's
- 22:31just been other players who've become bigger stars, and that's fine. Uh,
- 22:34so I'm a little bit bummed about that. Overall,
- 22:38I think the— you know, there's 3 remaining teams now
- 22:42because we have yet to watch Argentina versus England tomorrow noon.
- 22:45I'm wondering, I'm wondering Is tomorrow going to be
- 22:49the collapse of England that everybody's been telling me is inevitable,
- 22:53or is it Vargentina strikes again?
- 22:57That's— it's one of these two things. I think it's— I think, I think
- 23:00Argentina is going to the final because for multiple reasons. Vargentina.
- 23:04Vargentina is the main reason. Yeah. But the second reason
- 23:08is England collapse. I don't know, man. I, you know,
- 23:11I have watched a lot of England I want Argentina to lose so
- 23:15bad. And you know what's really funny is Argentina has
- 23:19become such— they are so anti-Black
- 23:23and so racist that they have the world rooting for like the 3
- 23:26biggest colonizing countries on the planet. I can't believe it. We're going England,
- 23:30Spain, France. We're like, fuck it, like do it, anybody but Argentina.
- 23:33Do it for the queen. Like, you guys are that bad. Like, you've rubbed people
- 23:37the wrong way. And it doesn't help, obviously, that like the Messi of it all,
- 23:39the Argentina with the VAR and like just the way they've been officiated. People are
- 23:43so sick of it. Um, I still can't believe that.
- 23:47Plus Jude Bellingham, people have like kind of fallen in love with Jude. He's won
- 23:50people over in a way that like nobody else on Argentina has, right? Like,
- 23:53I mean, how can you root against Jude? Everybody loves Jude. He's awesome. They sing
- 23:56Hey Jude when he— every single time. And let's be real clear, I, I want
- 24:00England to win. And honestly, I'll even go a step further. I'd be okay,
- 24:03very happy if England won the actual World Cup. Yeah. And here's why. And I've
- 24:06given you that. I've told you this already one time, but I really want to
- 24:09make this abundantly clear. Okay,
- 24:12Liam Gallagher's Twitter— yeah, Liam Gallagher will be the
- 24:16funniest fucking thing. We could do a whole segment on it that will ever happen.
- 24:20Yeah, he will fucking take all the credit. He will say it's because Oasis got
- 24:24back together, it's the power of Wonderwall. And honestly,
- 24:27I mean, I'm just telling the theme of what his tweets will be. I can
- 24:31only imagine what's actually going to come out of his mouth. Yeah, I cannot fucking
- 24:35wait for it. I need it to happen. Also, every time Wonderwall
- 24:39is sung by all of these England fans, Fucking chills. Fucking chills.
- 24:42It is like literally a great— it's like, it's like closing time at
- 24:46a bar. It's like, it's, it's like it's time to go home.
- 24:50We are the actual champ. This is better than We Are the Champions. It's like,
- 24:53fucking love this. Like Sweet Caroline at a Red Sox game. Fucking fuck you.
- 24:57And no, never ever compare something to that
- 25:01again. You're a bad friend. I fucking hate Neil Diamond. Fucking hate
- 25:05Neil Diamond.
- 25:08Someone that we, that we did fall in love with at this— everybody,
- 25:11the world fell in love with at this, um, tournament was
- 25:15Erling Haaland. Yeah, he's awesome. And we— he was,
- 25:19he was exited unceremoniously. We missed— we, we didn't, we didn't
- 25:23love to see it. Uh, really bad, really bad.
- 25:26That whole game was bizarre, by the way. Haaland like not, not being passed
- 25:30to in those scoring moments and then them taking him off the game. It was
- 25:33bizarre. But more importantly, he left with a
- 25:36bang. Mocha, show us, um, Erling Haaland
- 25:40and what he left with, uh, as he, as he arrived
- 25:43back home. This is his souvenir that he brought home,
- 25:47a $750 souvenir
- 25:50from Wild Bill's Western Store in Dallas.
- 25:54Yeah, that is a taxidermy raccoon holding
- 25:57a whiskey bottle. You know, as you do. And, uh, of course,
- 26:01not only did he like bring this home— and how do they get through customs?
- 26:05Well, listen, I think, I think
- 26:09they might not be as strict with Erling Haaland. Yeah, they'll let him do anything,
- 26:12I guess. He asked his fans on Instagram to choose a
- 26:15name for the raccoon. Yeah, via poll with, uh, options such as Cowboy,
- 26:20Ranger, Tex, and Row.
- 26:24R-O-W, you know. No, I got it. I got it.
- 26:27He also offered a farewell to the United States after Norrie's
- 26:31historic adventure came to an end. It's been quite a row.
- 26:34Thank you for making it so special. Goodbye, U.S. It's been
- 26:38emotional. So he left with his— that's
- 26:42sort of like kind of the perfect example of what it's like to be in
- 26:45the United States, to just come home with a feral raccoon holding a whiskey bottle.
- 26:47Yeah, it makes a lot of sense. Like, about right. It sounds like he did
- 26:50it right. That's the United States experience. I think it's fantastic. And the best
- 26:54version. Honest question about Erling Haaland. When is he in the MLS? You know,
- 26:59he will be at some point. Well, how many years? Not going to be a
- 27:02while. It's going to be a while, right? Yeah. But how long? I would say
- 27:05probably we've got— how old is he now? He's 26,
- 27:0827, 26, 27. So if he's, if he's 27,
- 27:12then it'll be probably another 9 years. Damn it.
- 27:16Yeah. Can we get like one of those guys in their prime once? No.
- 27:19Come on, man. Doesn't, doesn't like another team want to give up their ownership?
- 27:22Like now? So he's 25.
- 27:26Oh, so we've got like a decade. Yeah, it's a full 10 years before he's
- 27:29playing and fucking— wait, he got his tax and everything? Is there a team in
- 27:32Dallas? Uh, yeah. Okay, there you go. Yeah, he'll probably, he'll probably get on the,
- 27:36the Texas guy. He'll be the Texas, uh, David Beckham. I'm trying to
- 27:40remember how old he was when he came over. So when he— I felt like
- 27:43he was like 38. So he came to the Galaxy in 2007.
- 27:48Yeah, he was younger than I— so he was 32.
- 27:54Really? He was that young? Because he was born— he was born in '75.
- 27:58They paid him a lot for the time especially. And he
- 28:02also had— he'd also like been
- 28:06up for— since he was like a teenager. So like a lot
- 28:10of these guys have. So by the time they're in their early 30s— so I
- 28:13don't know that, but that was pretty— that was pretty like— he was like the
- 28:16biggest— he was closest to his prime of anyone we got. It was
- 28:20pretty wild though when he came here. There was, there was a, there was a
- 28:23hell of a boom there for a second there. And then Messi, there was a
- 28:26hell of a little boom there for a second. Like, like, when are these guys
- 28:30gonna open up the pocketbook just a little bit and really kind of make it
- 28:32a real thing? I mean, they have to probably give up a shit ton,
- 28:35but like, is it possible? Like, honestly, international soccer, how everything
- 28:40is done is so fucking different than how we do things here with contracts and
- 28:43everything. I don't, I don't actually understand. Is it even possible? To like acquire some
- 28:47of these guys? Yeah, it's possible. I think that the— yeah, the bigger
- 28:51issue is that like these teams are not going to pay
- 28:54the like the types of interleague
- 28:58transfer fees and stuff that would be required to do it. Like some
- 29:02of these, like a lot of times teams are paying a
- 29:06transfer fee, $100, $200 million just to acquire the rights
- 29:09to sign a player. Jesus Christ. Right. No wonder these billionaire owners don't want to
- 29:14be fucking— no wonder they want this all salary capped over here, which is weird
- 29:18though. It's not like they don't make it. They probably make more money than all
- 29:20of our leagues, right? Well, they know the NFL makes
- 29:24the most money out of any league. Goddamn, I was hoping it's not even close.
- 29:26Yeah, but I just figured soccer as a whole,
- 29:30one would think. No, it's— yeah, like if you look at the, at the
- 29:34most profitable like teams in the world
- 29:37and who's worth the most, all these teams, It'll be— it's all NFL teams.
- 29:41And then like at the top there's like, like Manchester United or like Barcelona.
- 29:47Lakers did just sell for $10 billion. Yeah, the Lakers, the Yankees. And then
- 29:51it's just like a bunch— it's like 2 soccer teams, 2 or 3 soccer teams,
- 29:542 or 3, you know, it'll be like the Lakers,
- 29:57the Yankees, whatever. And then it's just all NFL teams. By the way, I said
- 30:01something on the air today that I'm going to say so much the closer we
- 30:03get to the CBA about basically how they want a salary
- 30:07cap and all that. Listen, if all the owners are doing so, so poorly and
- 30:10if you're telling me right now that the Dodgers— you're skipping into our headline
- 30:133. But I have a very specific quote that I really, really happy about.
- 30:17And it's this: the Dodgers are making so much money.
- 30:20Like, truly, like, I don't know how much they're making. Yeah, but it's clearly
- 30:24they're making so much money that they fucking bought
- 30:28the Lakers. Has that somehow just escaped
- 30:31everyone's purview in this last year? Yes.
- 30:35Somehow no one's noticed. Apparently all these teams are losing so
- 30:39much money, but the Dodgers bought the Lakers for $10 billion.
- 30:45$10 billion.
- 30:49Just asking. So the world's most valuable sports
- 30:53teams in this past cycle, uh,
- 30:57were the Cowboys at 13—
- 31:00valued at $13.08 billion. Than the,
- 31:05the Warriors, the Rams, the Knicks, the Lakers, the Giants,
- 31:10the Patriots, the 49ers, the Eagles, the Bears, the Yankees, the Dolphins,
- 31:14the Clippers, the Commanders. I'm trying to see where an
- 31:17international team comes in. Wow. Real Madrid comes in after
- 31:22the Dodgers. I would assume that would have been higher, but interesting. Real Madrid is
- 31:25worth less than the Jets. Fascinating. Never would have guessed that.
- 31:29Never in a million years would have guessed that. Yeah.
- 31:32Manchester United is worth exactly the same as the Buccaneers.
- 31:36So just to give you an example of like, like you would think,
- 31:39like Real Madrid, that's one of the best soccer teams in the
- 31:43world. I am now no longer impressed with Wrexham. Sounds like, sounds like
- 31:47they bought it for $35 and really, really did something special. Well,
- 31:51they're not billionaires. They are not. They are not billionaires. So. All right.
- 31:55Well, let's talk about billionaires. Why not? They're my favorite thing.
- 31:59This is actually very specifically about kind of what Rob
- 32:02Manfred is trying to sell. Oh boy. And because he had some fucking quotes,
- 32:06he is working hard. He's in overtime the last 24 hours. And I just— I
- 32:09was reading these quotes and I'm like, yeesh. And I know this is coming off
- 32:12of, you know, All-Star. You know, we're doing All-Star. We had
- 32:16the Home Run Derby last night. We'll be talking— ruin it all.
- 32:19So Commissioner Rob Manfred. Yes. And MLBPA
- 32:23Interim Executive Director Bruce Meyer each heartily agreed Tuesday before
- 32:27the All-Star Game that the end of baseball— that the game of baseball is thriving
- 32:31and perhaps as good of a shape as it's been in the sport's history.
- 32:35They cited the sport's popularity and attendance, TV viewership,
- 32:39franchise values, and the younger demographics. The game, in the words
- 32:43of both leaders, is absolutely booming. That's where their similarities end.
- 32:47Boy, by the way, booming, that is— that is
- 32:51not a phrase that means we're not making
- 32:54ends meet. No. The word he used is booming.
- 32:58Continue, Tanya. Meyer and the players union believe that with the game
- 33:02prospering, there's no reason at all to overhaul the system with a salary cap.
- 33:05Manfred and the owners believe that if there's no salary cap, the game's
- 33:08popularity will wane lower than a 60-year-old neighborhood
- 33:12pickleball competition. Manfred reminded the Baseball Writers Association
- 33:16of America that the union wanted no part of a pitch clock either,
- 33:19and it has resulted in resounding success, and that it pushed back on the ABS
- 33:23challenge system too. Uh, no,
- 33:26we wanted robot umps. You wanted to make money off of it.
- 33:30Uh, and what are you fucking talking about? It's not like we had to vote
- 33:34on this. You just implemented it. He's also like, oh, you guys didn't want that
- 33:37either. Oh, I'm sorry, are you daddy? And you think now you're talking about affecting
- 33:41all of our livelihoods? What the fuck are you talking about? It's a totally—
- 33:45it's a— holy shit, it's a false equivalent. It is. This is a false— this
- 33:49is like, hey, like, can you fix this thing? I said, I don't know.
- 33:53I know a lot of episodes of The Cosby Show, though.
- 33:56Like what? Good, cool. What the fuck does that have to do with what we're
- 34:00talking about? Nothing. So Meyer pushed back and laughed, and he even
- 34:04mocked the premise that a salary cap would change anything but line
- 34:07up owners' pockets and argued that fans' biggest complaint
- 34:11is with their owners who won't spend the money to compete with the Dodgers and
- 34:14the big boys. If they were so concerned about fans, Meyer said, They would listen
- 34:19to the fans all across baseball who are literally chanting, sell the team.
- 34:22They don't want— they want the owners to sell the team because they feel they're
- 34:25not competing. They don't listen to that part. Every team in baseball
- 34:29can afford to compete. Many are choosing not to. To me,
- 34:32that's the biggest problem right now. I would agree. I would actually agree
- 34:36with that. It is basically the equivalent of tanking, except they're not tanking.
- 34:40Some of these teams, by the way, that are just choosing not to spend in
- 34:43certain realms, are just making money hand over fist and their attendance is— I'll use
- 34:47the Marlins as an example. Yeah. And by the way, the Marlins are fucking good
- 34:51because they have allotted some great money in their development and they do a good
- 34:54job developing. They have a great job scouting. The only thing they don't do is
- 34:56go out and spend money. By the way, baseball is— baseball is a sport.
- 34:59And this is where things get a little bit tricky with some— with a team
- 35:02like the Marlins. Baseball is a sport where you can like luck into
- 35:06like a group of players through your farm system and this through cheap acquisitions that
- 35:10just work for a while. 100%. That doesn't happen in every sport. But those sport—
- 35:14those guys can also get very good, and then they get the chance to make
- 35:17their money, right? Hence the whole prospect of Moneyball. But again, we discussed what Moneyball
- 35:21is. The movie Moneyball is a massive lie, right? Which is just not—
- 35:25perennial contenders are not like the Miami Marlins,
- 35:28right? Exactly. It's always the Dodgers and the— because they're just gonna— their business model
- 35:32is simply this: we're just gonna make our money and we're gonna replenish in the
- 35:35minor league system until we have a good amount of guys, and then we'll sell
- 35:37them at an upcharge, and then we're gonna have to redevelop these next guys for
- 35:40the next 4 years, and we'll be in the playoffs every 3 to 4 years,
- 35:43and we'll probably fizzle out unless we go on a magical run. And that's what
- 35:46they're basically doing, right? That is their business model. That is literally what they're choosing
- 35:49for their business model. It's a decision. It's not something they're forced
- 35:54into. They can easily spend money and do the exact same business model as the
- 35:58Dodgers. The Dodgers business model is we're going to go spend money. We're also going
- 36:02to overly spend money on developmental. They also spend a lot of money. This also
- 36:06the first team to spend money on paying for meals for their minor leaguers in
- 36:09their developmental. They also had a mental skills coach for like everybody. They also developed
- 36:13like a therapy program, a sleep program for the guys. The Dodgers were
- 36:17ahead of fucking everybody on everything.
- 36:21That's why they're the fucking Dodgers. I know
- 36:26it sucks if you're a fan of the Pirates and you don't have this,
- 36:29but it's because Bob Nutting has not invested into it.
- 36:32Well, and that's the thing is the Dodgers also like,
- 36:36yeah, there are teams that couldn't turn around and do what the Dodgers are doing
- 36:39right now this offseason. No, it has taken a decade,
- 36:43over a decade to build the Dodgers into what they are currently. I,
- 36:47as when I first moved to Los Angeles, the Dodgers were starting to fuck
- 36:51around with being in the playoffs every single year. They were starting to be really,
- 36:53really good and they were like perennial contenders and they weren't like quite
- 36:57getting there. They weren't quite getting there, but they had Dave Roberts and they were
- 36:59doing okay or moving along. They have incrementally
- 37:03like instituted and like obviously they, they,
- 37:07the team is bought and the investments are there and the investments
- 37:11behoove more investments and the money and they bring in all these things across the
- 37:15course of time. They're individual decisions adding up that lead
- 37:18to a team that is run the way that it's run
- 37:22now. Yes. It's not something you could overhaul in one offseason,
- 37:26but you start where they started.
- 37:30Like you start doing the things that they started doing in order to
- 37:34get the types of investment and the type of money. Yes.
- 37:39Can you replicate being in New York or Los Angeles?
- 37:42No, that's— I understand that, that, that exists
- 37:46whether there's a salary cap or not, period. Stop. You cannot replicate that.
- 37:50That's why more— the Lakers and the Knicks are
- 37:53more likely to get free agents than the fucking Cleveland Cavaliers
- 37:57and the Charlotte And by the way, if they don't, those channels
- 38:01like the ESPNs are going to bitch and complain. Why aren't we getting these
- 38:04guys to the major cities? Like, is this— this
- 38:08is like a weird programmed double standard. It's just something that exists
- 38:12for column inches. And the owners and the—
- 38:16just really know how to play it like a fiddle. This has been going on
- 38:20for 200 years of professional sport, like, and we're not getting smarter
- 38:25as a people. We're just— we're honestly getting dumber. And it's
- 38:28so frightening to me. That we can't— we're seeing the same, the same playbook
- 38:33from like 1954 is still working.
- 38:36And you don't see the playbook, especially when they're doing it directly in
- 38:40front of your face. I just want to go back to where we
- 38:44started. Rob Manfred says the league is booming.
- 38:48Attendance is up. The ratings are up.
- 38:52Everything is up. He said booming.
- 38:56The billionaires, the idea that the billionaires can't afford to compete. We are
- 39:00not doing this. We're not doing this. We're not doing this. We're not doing this.
- 39:03We just went through this with the Jaylen Brown thing. We go through this with
- 39:06the NFL all the time. We cannot live in a world where the last beacon
- 39:10of holding billionaires accountable to spend their fucking money is ripped
- 39:14out from underneath us. Baseball is going to be fucked. There is going to be
- 39:18a strike. There is going to— we are going to lose baseball because these motherfuckers
- 39:22are trying to take advantage of the Trump era. They're trying to take advantage of
- 39:25the technocratic billionaire bullshit that's going on right now. They know that there is a
- 39:28push around this entire culture of forcing like
- 39:32billionaires to basically labor exploitation.
- 39:36Oh, by the way, I don't know if you saw his quote about Trump today.
- 39:40He was asked about Trump today. What? Rob Manfred was asked about
- 39:44Donald Trump today, if whether or not Donald Trump will intervene.
- 39:47And he kind of said no while
- 39:52also acknowledging that the president is aware of the
- 39:56situation type of thing. What? And kind of like he's really
- 40:00smart about sports is kind of what he said.
- 40:04Motherfucker. Every single baseball
- 40:08player in the union, pay close attention because I
- 40:12know who you guys vote for, for the most part. I know who
- 40:16you guys, a lot of you idiots worship. For the most part,
- 40:20that man is coming for your money. Yeah.
- 40:24Not your boss's money. Your money.
- 40:27Remember that. Have a great day.
- 40:31That's, that's upsetting.
- 40:35You know, he's going to get involved. I hope these dumb—
- 40:38I hope these dumb MAGA idiots are not stupid enough to fall for Trump
- 40:42getting involved. He's not going to get involved. He's going to tweet about
- 40:47it and say things at press conferences and make it seem that he is
- 40:50somehow involved while trying to create a narrative around
- 40:54his current— his current— Well, I'm excited to see what the Christian MAGA
- 40:57baseball bros have to say. I'm really interested when Trump starts
- 41:02talking about how, you know, these baseball players can't have guaranteed
- 41:06contracts. I just want to know what you're going to say then. What do you—
- 41:10what do you think? How do you guys feel about Tommy John surgery?
- 41:13Your elbow's blown out. Contract null and void. How do you feel about that?
- 41:17Oh, you broke down, so you're out. How about that? Like, tell me. I'm just
- 41:20really interested. I'm interested to see how this goes. This is gonna be a lot
- 41:23of fun for everybody. I have no idea whether or not it's gonna turn into
- 41:26a complete shit show, but listen, everything else that the administration
- 41:30has touched has gone really well. How's the ceasefire?
- 41:36What ceasefire? Hmm. Oh, okay. Let's get over to
- 41:39the next subject, please. Netflix Aired the Home Run Derby.
- 41:43Yes, they did. It's Media Corner. And, um, in this Media Corner,
- 41:47I have a— we have a— I don't know if we've returned to this beef
- 41:51for a while, but it is one we've had before, which is non-sports
- 41:54companies venturing into sports broadcasts and not doing the sports
- 41:58of it all. Yeah. And now they fixed the Home Run Derby's biggest problem
- 42:02and created a new one. Now, thank you, by the way. Can I just start
- 42:06everything? A+. Fucking A. Yes. Fucking plus.
- 42:09Maybe shorten the first round a little bit. Yeah, we talked about in the last
- 42:13show. Yeah, well, they, they took away the time, but maybe every round 15 swings.
- 42:17I— because that swings thing fucking works way better.
- 42:19Fucking way better. But I think you can maybe the first round
- 42:23of 20 swings, maybe bound to 15. Outside of that, I was fine with it
- 42:27personally, but like that, I mean, it goes on for a while.
- 42:30It is kind of whatever, dude. It got, it got nail-biting and It
- 42:34gave me everything that I wanted and I loved about the Home Run Derby growing
- 42:38up. Every home run was majestic again. Every home run mattered.
- 42:42And, and finally somebody realized as a TV product— and
- 42:46I don't— I'm not going to give Netflix the credit for this, I'm not— whoever
- 42:48just figured out this is where the actual drama
- 42:52is. There was so much fucking
- 42:55drama. And also, I never do this— good job, fucking Philly.
- 42:59Good. You were Fucking character in this fucking
- 43:02Home Run Derby. Philly's always awesome as a live crowd. I mean,
- 43:06good in this, you have to give them credit. But with Schwarber in the end
- 43:09against Walker and the boos and the— it was fucking
- 43:14magic. Yeah, I mean, you couldn't script it. My God. And by the
- 43:17way, just full transparency, those magenta balls, and if you, um, you— the
- 43:21reason no one could hit them, you can't see them. Yeah. Um, I, I posted
- 43:25a video of me hitting one, uh, a couple years ago at Dodger Stadium because
- 43:27I testing out the thing for ESPN a few years back when they did the
- 43:31Home Run Derby here. And the first time it was thrown at me, now I
- 43:34did homer on that pitch that I swung because Daddy Riggs. Yeah,
- 43:38but it— but I will admit I yell out loud as I'm swinging,
- 43:42oh my God, that's so hard to see. Yeah, because it's like a strobe
- 43:46light being thrown at you. Yeah, I don't like that. You don't see a white
- 43:48thing. You see a white dot flickering. I was going to say that it's impossible
- 43:52to see. Yeah, impossible to do that. Right. They should not do that.
- 43:55Yeah. Like, but it— but listen, Schwarber hit one
- 43:59and then Jordan Walker fucking hit 4 in a row to fucking win it,
- 44:02bro. That's a— that was for a million dollars, by the
- 44:06way. Yeah, he had 4 home runs in a row for a million dollars.
- 44:09That's more money than he makes this year. Yeah, that's fucking insane.
- 44:13Can we just really talk about— fuck anything,
- 44:16nerves of steel is an understatement. Fucking— that guy just made
- 44:20a million dollars by hitting 4 impossible balls to see. Deep into
- 44:25the fucking Philly now. There's stakes for it like that, for especially for like they,
- 44:29um, when they did the like 1v1 tournament for the Undisputed, um,
- 44:33like league, or Undisputed, the women's—
- 44:36that's not Undisputed, my brain is trash— the women's Unrivaled.
- 44:40Unrivaled. Okay. Yeah. Um, they did 1v1 and
- 44:43the prize was like $200,000 something whatever dollars, and I was like,
- 44:46it's so nice when the players like get a real cash prize that matters,
- 44:50like, then on top of it, it's fucking awesome. This was so good. I was—
- 44:53it reminded me why I loved all those Home Run Derbies. It was like,
- 44:57it was a real return to form. And I got to give a lot of
- 45:00people credit. And you know what? I know we're about to be critical of Netflix.
- 45:03And yeah, no, no, make no mistake, we're going to be critical of— no,
- 45:06it's not the Home Run Derby that we're being critical of at all, like whatsoever.
- 45:10And the format, all that stuff. I think that you
- 45:13and I are probably similar in this way, I think, where when we have a,
- 45:17like, an attachment to something and, and like we already are primed
- 45:21to be nostalgic and enjoy it, it's, it's very easy to get us. Like,
- 45:24we want to enjoy the thing in front of us always. So something like that
- 45:28we're going to be able to enjoy if you're giving us anywhere semblance of a
- 45:30good product. And they did. The, the, the format of it was great.
- 45:34Um, here's the problem, and this is the same problem I had that
- 45:38they identified on Awful Announcing that I want to talk about because
- 45:41it's a big The Home Run Derby has one job. Yeah.
- 45:45Show the ball leaving the bat and show where it lands. With its cinematic
- 45:49ambitions, treated that job as optional. Tight close-ups
- 45:53on hitters' faces during their swings repeatedly cost viewers the actual moment of contact,
- 45:57and the broadcast leaned on those close-ups instead of following the ball on
- 46:01flight. At least show one stretch the camera—
- 46:05or on at least one stretch, the camera stayed locked on the pitcher through consecutive
- 46:09swings from Jordan Walker. Which is about as far as you can get from what
- 46:12everyone tuned in to see. It wasn't a matter of broadcast finding its footing
- 46:16over the course of the night either, as the same complaint kept surfacing swing after
- 46:20swing. The frustration turned into something close to a consensus among viewers.
- 46:23A home run derby doesn't need much more than a shot behind the pitcher and
- 46:27a shot on the ball's landing spot. And Netflix kept finding ways to
- 46:30use neither. And this is where the
- 46:34rubber meets the road when we're talking about not only games on
- 46:38Netflix, Also still on Apple, also still on Prime.
- 46:43These companies that are tech companies
- 46:46first or video companies first, that you did—
- 46:51whoever you hired to run your— not only your
- 46:54broadcast, the camera shots and everything else. Yeah, that's not a
- 46:58fucking— that's not a sports TV guy. I don't know a single sports TV guy
- 47:01on planet Earth that would have let that happen. Whoever you got— I'm gonna make
- 47:05this abundantly clear. I don't, I don't root for for people to get fired in
- 47:07this industry. Whoever is running your baseball shit, fire them.
- 47:10Fire them. Seriously, fucking fire them. Like, and hire anybody
- 47:14that is— I can't believe I'm saying this— hire anybody that's ever worked
- 47:19a day at MLB. And Cody, like, anybody. The reason I put this on here
- 47:22is so fucking insane. I have it on good authority. This is— I'm not just
- 47:25saying this— the people at Netflix will hire—
- 47:29will go to showrunners and directors
- 47:33and people who are doing the sports documentaries and
- 47:36broadcast for them and say,
- 47:40oh, you want them to do the editing? Oh, you want them to do the
- 47:43camera work? But they've only ever done sports.
- 47:46They, they've said that directly to someone who's creating a sports
- 47:50product. And then they say, okay, but we want to— we need somebody who— they
- 47:54literally think sports broadcasting is a joke. They think people who
- 47:58create sports television are fucking idiots. I gotta—
- 48:01I really want to stress this out. I can't stress this enough.
- 48:04Netflix, you're so fucking bad at this. I— here,
- 48:08let's go through the list. Yeah, I have a full fucking— let's go ahead and
- 48:11start with the fucking Michael Bay endless camera
- 48:15movement, close-up fucking shots, as if Tobe Hooper is all of a sudden
- 48:19Les Mis-ing this fucking thing. Show me
- 48:23ball hit bat, ball over fence.
- 48:26It is fucking that simple. How you can't do that
- 48:30is fucking baffling. Like, you're showing shots in fucking
- 48:34bullet time, you're fucking doing vertigo effects.
- 48:36Fucking quit it. This is not a fucking film project.
- 48:40This looked like it was directed by a fucking 13-year-old
- 48:44who read like— who's like a fan of Kubrick and he's like, I'm gonna make
- 48:47all these things, watch me De Palma this. That's what they do. Fuck. They hire
- 48:52They hire directors and like they hire people specifically
- 48:57who have that experience and who have never once
- 49:01ever done either live sports or documentary sports or anything.
- 49:04They per— and they purposely do that because they say they, they genuinely
- 49:09will look at someone dead in the eye who's producing the fucking Home
- 49:12Run Derby and be like, uh, yeah, but we need somebody
- 49:16who actually like gets TV.
- 49:19Nope. You know you do. No, they're right, they do.
- 49:23They need someone to get TV. Sports fucking TV, which has been in existence
- 49:27for a while. I don't understand how on planet Earth we got to the
- 49:30point where— by the way, the only thing people watch live is
- 49:35sports. It's sports. It's literally it. We are the last zeitgeist. We are
- 49:39the last thing that brings in fucking live ratings.
- 49:42Everybody from camera— from camera operators to directors,
- 49:46to producers, to editors, to talent, to everyone else.
- 49:49We are the last zeitgeist of live television.
- 49:54End of story. Why on planet Earth would you be like,
- 49:57you know who needs to do this? Who needs to edit this thing is our
- 50:00fucking docs dude from— you know what we
- 50:04need? We need Bill Pope from The Matrix movies to be the cinematographer
- 50:08on this. No, you fucking don't. You need Tondra Fox to fucking get a tripod
- 50:12and a camera Place it there, place it here, get a guy on
- 50:16fucking one movable camera so we can see where it lands.
- 50:20The end. It's really that simple. You're doing too much.
- 50:24Too much. No. And, and by the way, it's— if you were doing too much
- 50:27and it was just like sort of evening out and you were just wasting your
- 50:31own money and time, that'd be one thing. But you're doing too much and making
- 50:34it worse. That's the crazy— you're doing too much and making it way worse.
- 50:37And I say this all the time, and unfortunately it is true.
- 50:41When Lee Fitting was fired by ESPN for being a creep,
- 50:46he went over to WWE. They love that,
- 50:51obviously. And while I hate
- 50:55to say it because he's a creep and he shouldn't have been able to just
- 50:58go over to WWE and start fucking and like become basically the,
- 51:01the showrunner of these shows, he made
- 51:05it so much better because he understands how to do live sports television,
- 51:09and he incorporated that into WWE. They were smart enough to look at
- 51:13his— now this guy was a fucking— he was a like a legendary
- 51:17sports television producer, creep, and an awful person who deserved to get fired and
- 51:21definitely didn't deserve to get rehired. But my point is, that was
- 51:24a perfect example of somebody who they looked at and they were like, this guy
- 51:28knows exactly what to do with what we're trying to do. We're trying to
- 51:32diversify our— like, we're doing all of these live programming We're doing all this
- 51:36and we want it to feel more like sports, more like an event. How do
- 51:39we do that? We get a live sports guy. These people are doing live sports,
- 51:42real live sports, and they're like, you know who we need? We need some documentarians
- 51:46and some fucking film editors. I agree. By the way, that's only problem one.
- 51:50Can we fucking move on to the next problem? Oh, by the way, I actually
- 51:54do want to give kudos to one thing. I thought the crew that was doing
- 51:56the actual Home Run Derby did a pretty good job. Yeah, I thought Barry Bonds
- 51:59did a pretty good job. I thought, uh, I thought Anthony Rizzo did a good
- 52:02job. Fun. Yeah. So I know, no real complaints there other than,
- 52:05listen, I mean, they got— yeah, they got Barry Bonds and like, what, Albert Pujols?
- 52:09Yeah. Like, yeah. Was it, was it perfect? No, but I thought they did a
- 52:12pretty decent job. So good job there. So there's something.
- 52:15Granted, just because I'm an old school Home Run Derby guy, I miss
- 52:18Chris Berman saying back, back, back, back, back, back, back. Sure. That's all. I wish
- 52:22you just fucking put it on a button and press it and so we could
- 52:24hear it just once or twice. I miss iconic— that's all. It's not a
- 52:28big deal. Fucking Pay Chris Berman to show up for like one hitter. I'm sure
- 52:32he'll do it. I— why not? Yeah. Um, outside of that,
- 52:36good, good on that. Um, the— I thought some of
- 52:39the little pieces that they put together weren't bad. Um,
- 52:42the prepackaged videos, thought they weren't bad. I thought they did a good job of
- 52:46introducing a couple of players. Um, Will Ferrell and all of them— people
- 52:51hated that, man. I know, guys, I'm a Will Ferrell fan, but like, can we
- 52:54stop doing this, please. I don't know why we keep trying to force comedians into
- 52:58this space. I don't like it when they do it with Nikki Glaser. I don't
- 53:01like when they do it with these people. It's never— no thank you. It never
- 53:04works. It's always bad. Just fucking stop.
- 53:08Let it be pageantry. Let it be pageantry. Let it even
- 53:12be goofy pageantry. Don't— you don't need to bring in a comedian to make a
- 53:16literal mockery of it, um, because they always fall flat and
- 53:20no one is there to make a mockery of this. So like,
- 53:23I get it, but I, I appreciate the try. I get you're trying to sell
- 53:26the product of Hawk, but fucking stop. Just fucking stop.
- 53:30You can just make commercials. I know because I had to watch all of them
- 53:3317 fucking times. 3 of 8. That 3-minute
- 53:37clock countdown is like a century to me. Ha!
- 53:40But fuck it, whatever. I understand that one too.
- 53:44CeCe Sabathia doing sideline reporting.
- 53:47And not being C.C. Sabathia being all buttoned up
- 53:51like he was like, and he's like asking like questions that you can literally get
- 53:54any Joe Schmo off the street to do and do it like a little bit
- 53:57better as opposed to what you like. What C.C.'s— C.C.'s got a lot of personality.
- 54:00Fucking let him just go be C.C. Don't like— you literally don't ever
- 54:04use C.C. Sabathia as a sideline reporter. Like, you literally have him over there going
- 54:07like, and so what do you think you need to do to get better for
- 54:10this next round? Back to you, Bob. That's fucking C.C.
- 54:14Sabathia. I don't know why we have such a problem with people who went to
- 54:17journalism school getting jobs, but like, The fuck are we doing? CeCe Sabathia is an
- 54:21incredible studio guest. He's an incredible podcast guest. And like, do those things.
- 54:25He's not a fucking sideline reporter. Stop trying to make these people have
- 54:29to— we all— there's a bunch of us who were trained to do
- 54:33the job. Just fucking— holy fucking shit, just hire somebody. Oh my God,
- 54:36God, I just— I was just banging my head against the wall going like,
- 54:39the fuck are you guys— just get back to the home run derby. And now
- 54:42here's another thing. This is just fucking practical. Fuck all the camera moving, all that.
- 54:46Why are you interviewing people that are not in the Home Run Derby or have
- 54:50anything to do with the Home Run Derby during the Home Run Derby?
- 54:54I missed probably a total of 8 home runs
- 54:58because you were just interviewing someone else. They weren't doing a very good job at
- 55:02the picture-in-picture thing. Like, you know, sometimes it was baffling how horribly this
- 55:06was shot. It was a poorly directed— directed and edited. It was a poorly produced—
- 55:11it's awesome. It was poorly produced in terms of all of that stuff. The technical—
- 55:14the technical elements were poorly produced. Terrible. The,
- 55:18the format was great because it's a choice, Cody.
- 55:22Like, I have friends who make talk— it's like, it's bad when I sit down
- 55:25and talk to these people about what they have to do to get people
- 55:30who understand sports television on their projects. It's a nightmare. It's a nightmare.
- 55:34Well, anyway, how about this silver lining? The Home Run Derby was great because
- 55:38the Home Run Derby was fucking great, right? Right. Uh, Netflix tried to
- 55:42fuck it up. I'll give them kudos for one thing, one thing only.
- 55:46Supreme upgrade to opening night. Opening night
- 55:50was a goddamn calamity. I think we talked about it. Yeah, calamity.
- 55:53Everything was awful. Everything. This was not everything.
- 55:57It was fine. The only things that were awful— it's also— we are doing
- 56:01the sports, we are doing inside baseball here. Like, we— when you're— when
- 56:04you've been making tell— I've been making television my entire adult life.
- 56:08Like, I'm gonna be incredibly picky about the things
- 56:11that like just could be so much better. I'm glad Chris
- 56:15didn't watch it, honestly, because he would have— it would have driven him nuts.
- 56:17I bet it would have driven him fucking nuts. Yeah, hire Chris.
- 56:22Have Chris run the entire fucking thing. It'll be fantastic.
- 56:26I— when I always say if I ever win the lottery, I'm just starting a
- 56:29multimedia company. Yeah, like I have— I have the best
- 56:33people available at every single— this show will be in front of your face everywhere.
- 56:37Oh my god, every Everywhere. Never stop. This show will be daily.
- 56:40It will be on NBC somehow. And we will have our own private jet.
- 56:44Oh, and it's going to say The Regulars on the side of it. There's going
- 56:48to be so much savvy on this plane. So fucking
- 56:52much. Anyways, what is our next media corner?
- 56:56Okay. You and I rip ESPN a lot because we do. Yes,
- 57:00we do. And they are always deserving of it. Every time.
- 57:03Every single time. And by the way, That doesn't mean we don't give them kudos
- 57:07when they do things that are good, too. Exactly. And that being said, it's getting
- 57:10fewer and far in between. However,
- 57:13something that we feel is totally
- 57:17fair is hyping up Serena Williams returning to Wimbledon. I really thought that was like
- 57:21a totally normal thing to do. Win for everybody. Win for everybody.
- 57:25ESPN was really leaning into that. She's the GOAT. She's coming back.
- 57:28Yeah. Chris Russo. Oh, no, no, no.
- 57:32His name is Christopher. Christopher Russo. And I want to make it abundantly clear,
- 57:35the man I have the least respect for in this entire industry. Continue.
- 57:39He ripped ESPN for hyping Serena Williams at Wimbledon.
- 57:44They played up Serena Williams like you wouldn't believe,
- 57:47he ranted on SiriusXM during his return from vacation
- 57:50on Monday. And then Serena got her ass handed to her. She had— she
- 57:55lost her last 5 games to a kid who hadn't won a match in 6
- 57:59months. Who then lost in the next round in the 3rd set,
- 58:026-0. You would have thought Serena was doing something heroic.
- 58:05I mean, take it easy, will ya? She came back to play a first-round match
- 58:09at Wimbledon after 3 or 4 years, lost to a person who hadn't won a
- 58:13match on the pro tour since January. Can we take it easy?
- 58:19Here's the thing. Here's the thing.
- 58:23We have got— I used to work at that fucking channel. We have got
- 58:27to retire everybody. I think if
- 58:31you are a white man with a microphone over the age of 55, you got
- 58:34to go. I think you're all— you all got to go. I don't think there's
- 58:37one who gets to remain. I don't think there's one who
- 58:41gets to remain. She— in any sport, in any sport.
- 58:46By the way, by the way, did we not— just out of curiosity,
- 58:49Cody, did we not just watch The entire UFC
- 58:53world act like Conor McGregor, washed rapist,
- 58:58convicted rapist Conor McGregor coming back to
- 59:02UFC to get his fucking knee buckled in 39
- 59:06seconds. They acted like,
- 59:09like the king of, of the entire sport
- 59:12had returned. What was, what was, what was Christian's segment
- 59:17about that? What do you say about that? Nothing. Because I saw a lot of
- 59:21ESPN reporting on it. What did he say about that? I'm just curious what— I
- 59:23want to know what Chrissy said about that. It's very simple.
- 59:28Nothing. I guess he wasn't so mad about them hyping up a washed-up
- 59:32rapist all week, but they— but he was upset about
- 59:36them hyping up the greatest women's tennis player, one of the greatest tennis players
- 59:41regardless of gender of all time. Is anyone— arguably
- 59:45the GOAT of the sport. Historically, she's 44 years old,
- 59:48she's had multiple kids. Like, she was retired and came back
- 59:53like at the age of 44 in a sport where you're old at 27.
- 59:56Yeah. Um, she's the greatest ever did it. She came back and played at Wimbledon.
- 1:00:00Um, it's astonishing that this— it's actually like an athletic
- 1:00:04feat that like is just truly astonishing. And it was kind
- 1:00:08of cool. And yeah, she's maybe the most famous tennis player who ever lived.
- 1:00:11It makes all the sense. Oh, and she also, uh, has not
- 1:00:15been, um, convicted or accused of any sexual
- 1:00:20crimes that I'm aware of. No. You know, it's so fascinating though, because every
- 1:00:24time Tiger Woods picks up a fucking golf
- 1:00:28club and every time he gets behind a wheel and even sniffs a fucking
- 1:00:32golf course on the tour, we— oh guys,
- 1:00:36I get fucking notifications. Tiger's— Tiger's hitting balls
- 1:00:40at— fuck, Tiger is 100 years old, has 7 drunk driving charges,
- 1:00:44hasn't won shit since he won the Masters in 2019, and I get an
- 1:00:48update every fucking time. This is what ESPN does.
- 1:00:52If a GOAT is doing something, they are going to blast it out.
- 1:00:56And God forbid— I mean, Conor McGregor's not even a GOAT and they're gonna blast
- 1:01:00it out because God forbid we don't promote
- 1:01:04famous rapists. But like, at what point
- 1:01:08do we just take, take the mics? Defund the mics.
- 1:01:12Can we defund the mics for Gen X and boomer white
- 1:01:15guys? I'd say he fucking— you think, you think Christian is
- 1:01:20fucking Gen X? That guy's like 70 fucking 5
- 1:01:24years old. Because Russo. Yeah. How old is he? Oh,
- 1:01:28who gives a shit? He's worthless. I don't know. This is baffling. Yeah.
- 1:01:31Please take it. I think Gen X and boomer, I think Well, maybe young Gen
- 1:01:35X. Anybody under, under the age of under 55.
- 1:01:40He's like in his 60s at least. Chris Russo age.
- 1:01:44How old are you? 66 years old.
- 1:01:47He's older than my mom. Fucking retire, clown.
- 1:01:51Ooh, October 18th. Bad Libra representation.
- 1:01:55Bad sign, bud. Bad Libra representation. That's not good. What's,
- 1:01:59what's his moon? That's a good question. It's probably— it's probably Gemini or
- 1:02:03Scorpio. Oh, you fuck. That sucks. Yeah. Hey, you were doomed from the start,
- 1:02:07man. I don't know. That's what I'm just guessing because I— that's bad Libra representation
- 1:02:10from the start, I guess. Um, but yeah, like, I just— it's so
- 1:02:15disingenuous. And this is on the heels of like Coward
- 1:02:19put Lamar Jackson outside his top 10. Like, these dudes are just rage baiting
- 1:02:23to the point of like not needing to be on television or radio anymore.
- 1:02:27Like, it's exhausting. It's exhausting. It's worthless. They're ruining
- 1:02:31sports discourse. Just all worthless. That's what I
- 1:02:35don't like about it. That's— it's what I've always— that's what this show is about.
- 1:02:38Like, it's about us just— it's about us being better than literally everyone.
- 1:02:42Yeah, it's us honestly being the best. You know what, here's the thing. It's about
- 1:02:45us being the smartest in the room. But it's not that we're like— I always
- 1:02:48tell people we're not— we're not the smartest in the room because Mocha's here.
- 1:02:51Oh, we're definitely— we're definitely the smartest. No, we said we aren't. I said she
- 1:02:55was trying to compliment you. I was being realistic. You just— you just proved that
- 1:02:58you're not the smartest because I was complimenting you and you didn't even compliment me.
- 1:03:00You and I are just Just fucking— we work in sports media.
- 1:03:03We're just in the dumbest fuck rooms every single
- 1:03:07day. This is why the people that are willing to say this shit,
- 1:03:10they're not— not only are they the dumbest fucks, they're also just— they're the— they're
- 1:03:13literally just the grifters who are willing to say anything as long as
- 1:03:17you click on it. It's fucking sad and embarrassing, especially if you're 66
- 1:03:22years old. I think about this all the time. I was— I remember sitting
- 1:03:25in my— one of my philosophy classes that I was taking in college. And I
- 1:03:29was doing my normal thing. Of course, like, you and I would have been great
- 1:03:32buddies in college in these classes because, like, yappers doing thoughts,
- 1:03:36you know, just, just going through philosophical ideas and
- 1:03:39playing it out and talking through it, you know. And so I'm doing my thing
- 1:03:43in class, and class ends. My, my professor
- 1:03:48comes up to me after and she goes, what's your major? And I was like,
- 1:03:53I'm majoring in communication studies and minor in digital media and journalism. And she
- 1:03:57was like, and that's challenging
- 1:04:02to you? You feel fulfilled by that? And I
- 1:04:06was like, yes. And she's like,
- 1:04:10I just feel like you could be doing more. And I was like, okay,
- 1:04:13but that's what I'm doing. And she was like, okay. And I walked out of
- 1:04:16class and I'm like, she literally just was like, you dumb bitch, you could be
- 1:04:20doing something so much cooler. I'm like, yeah, oh no, I need a philosophy degree.
- 1:04:24Let's shut the fuck up. I hope she wasn't suggesting that. I don't know what
- 1:04:27she was suggesting, but it was really funny. She was like, you're gonna go into
- 1:04:31an industry with a bunch of idiots who are way too dumb. And she wasn't
- 1:04:35wrong. I thought I was gonna be one of those idiots. Turns out I am
- 1:04:37actually smarter than most. Yeah, I know. Uh, which is really upsetting.
- 1:04:41Here you are going toe-to-toe with the, uh, philosophy— with the, the woman who could
- 1:04:45have had a philosophy major. Hey, listen, I, I was a history major. I have
- 1:04:48nothing to write home about. Oh, I love history. Me too, especially how we keep
- 1:04:52repeating it. Yeah, because we get to redo it every couple hundred years.
- 1:04:55Well, seemingly every 20 now. Yes. So that's fun because
- 1:04:59now I'm of the age where I remember the last 20. Boy,
- 1:05:03we're doing this one again. We're playing these hits again?
- 1:05:06Boy, you must have found a new audience. They always have.
- 1:05:09They did. Yeah.
- 1:05:13All right, this week we are doing Hills We're
- 1:05:17Dying On. Yeah, to close out the show. So,
- 1:05:20um, do you know what hill you're dying on? I know what I'm— I can
- 1:05:23definitely find one in the next 10 seconds. All right, well, I know— you want
- 1:05:26me to start? Yes. Okay, the hill I'm dying on, and this is— just
- 1:05:32give me a second to explain it, okay? I cannot
- 1:05:36stand, and I think it is— I think it is
- 1:05:40a lie when men say I'm attracted
- 1:05:44to to blondes. I don't—
- 1:05:48I think it's— I don't know what they're trying to say, and I need you
- 1:05:52guys to help me out on this, but I will die on the hill that
- 1:05:54men are not attracted to blondes. Like when
- 1:05:58they're like, blonde's my type, because like
- 1:06:024% of the world is blonde. Everything that they're
- 1:06:05talking about is like brunettes whose hair is dyed.
- 1:06:10Like Nobody's blonde, really. Like, there are
- 1:06:13very— I mean, I am, but like, that's very— it's like rare that someone is
- 1:06:17actually blonde. So what they're talking about is white
- 1:06:22women who dye their hair a specific color. Your type is, I like women who
- 1:06:26dye my hair a specific color, right? Yes. Now I could say I
- 1:06:31like men who wear glasses, right? Like, okay,
- 1:06:34that could be a type of mine. But a
- 1:06:38lot of people wear glasses. Yes, a lot of them. A lot
- 1:06:42of people wear glasses. That's something that you encounter frequently because poor eyesight
- 1:06:46is pretty regular. My, my eyesight's gotten— I feel like someone
- 1:06:50being like, my type is somebody who's blonde, is the same as someone being like,
- 1:06:53I'm really attracted to like paraplegics
- 1:06:59or something. Like, it's just like, it's not something you run into very often.
- 1:07:03I'm not gonna lie to you, sounds a little, little gatekeeping.
- 1:07:07Sounds like someone who's like, no, no, no, no, I'm a real— I know,
- 1:07:11I know, that's what I'm saying. It's not that— it has nothing to do— I
- 1:07:14don't— it has nothing to do with like, if you like blondes, you should only
- 1:07:18like me. Okay, okay, that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying I just—
- 1:07:22when people say that, what are you actually saying? That's fair, that they
- 1:07:26only like 6% of the population. No, because like, that's what my point is,
- 1:07:30like When you say, I really like, I'm attracted to blondes, they're all like 95%
- 1:07:33of the time, 98% of the time you're talking about somebody who dyes their hair
- 1:07:35blonde. Fine. But what essentially, like,
- 1:07:38you are not attracted to hair color. No, you're not. I would
- 1:07:42assume you're not. Like, that's an insane, like the,
- 1:07:46'cause blonde is also very many shades. There could be platinum blonde, there could be
- 1:07:49whatever, right? So what are you saying? What you're actually saying is I'm attracted to
- 1:07:53like someone with, Eurocentric white features,
- 1:07:58right? Like that has to be what they mean, right? Probably, but I don't—
- 1:08:02it's a phenotype. Yeah.
- 1:08:05Like, yeah, but, but what I'm telling you is blonde people
- 1:08:09specifically are such a small percentage of the population that what you're talking about,
- 1:08:13you're talking about brunettes. Okay. Most people who have blonde
- 1:08:17hair are just brunettes with their hair dyed. Mocha, what's your type?
- 1:08:21I, I don't really like have a specific— me neither,
- 1:08:24dude. I've— when everyone tells me like what their type is, I think they're fucking
- 1:08:28weird. Well, so I think my type is female.
- 1:08:31Yeah, like you, you know what gender you like. Yeah, which is like fine,
- 1:08:35but like I just think a lot of times what— it's always blown
- 1:08:39my mind that people— like there was a Love Island girl where everybody
- 1:08:43was like, oh, I'm— she was like, he said he like doesn't usually go for
- 1:08:45blondes. And like, this bitch had 2 inches of brunette
- 1:08:49roots, right? I'm like, oh, well, just grow your hair out
- 1:08:53then. But that's not what he meant. What he actually meant was that he goes
- 1:08:57for like genuinely like darker skin,
- 1:09:01dark eyes, dark hair, like darker features, like Persian and
- 1:09:05Black American. Like, that was like the style of woman that he liked.
- 1:09:08I'm like, so no, it's not blondes. You don't like— I get it, you're— you
- 1:09:12don't like European white. Yeah, you, you, you— but
- 1:09:17instead of that, we've started using this as like blonde. Yeah, I, I always found
- 1:09:21this in something like brunette white girls don't exist. So I had like— so I
- 1:09:24remember like I had a lot of friends growing up that became like models and
- 1:09:26they started getting the modeling thing and, you know, some— a couple of them were
- 1:09:29actually real blondes and a couple of them were like, you know, one— yeah,
- 1:09:33one, one— no, I know. Yeah, but like one was Indian, another, another was,
- 1:09:37uh, was was African-American and all, and, and just a little—
- 1:09:41just a couple of different, different people. And I'll never forget it, they used
- 1:09:45this phrase for, for the girl that was Black and the girl that was Indian,
- 1:09:48and it always like bothered me. I don't know why. I get— maybe I'm overly
- 1:09:52sensitive, but they were like, oh yeah, we, we actually do want you two because
- 1:09:54you two are exotic. Yes. And the phrase exotic was just like,
- 1:09:58the fuck does that mean? Super fetishizing. Something about that's like fucking a little off
- 1:10:02to me. It's super— I've always thought it was really fetishizing to refer to brown
- 1:10:06and Black women as exotic because it's like,
- 1:10:09that's, that's a fetishizing thing. It's like, oh, you're different, you're not like the,
- 1:10:12like the Eurocentric beauty standard that we deal with over here, you're kind of cool
- 1:10:16and different. It's like, no, that, that's actually the, the global majority
- 1:10:19looks like those women. Yeah, like the global majority is not
- 1:10:23white people, by the way. So I don't know, it's always
- 1:10:27just like, it's a— I, I will die on the hill that no one's actually
- 1:10:31attracted to blonde. That's not a type.
- 1:10:34Your type can't be blondes because 90% of
- 1:10:39the blondes you've met don't have blonde hair. Your type is a Eurocentric,
- 1:10:43like, white person phenotype, which is whatever,
- 1:10:47but it's not blonde. Sorry, like, that's just not a fucking thing.
- 1:10:51There's not enough— you have not met enough natural blondes for that to be a
- 1:10:54type. And it's not— that's not me being like, that's why I'm special. I don't
- 1:10:58give a fuck. Fuck, I don't even like white guys, so they can fuck off.
- 1:11:00But like, just saying, it's mostly white guys who say that.
- 1:11:04White guys being like, I like white blonde girls. Okay, fuck off. You just like
- 1:11:07white people who happen to dye their hair blonde. And I— it's— no
- 1:11:12one can explain to me when they say that what they mean. Of course,
- 1:11:15like, they like white people. Yeah,
- 1:11:18it's more or less what they're saying. That's what it feels like. It's kind of
- 1:11:22what— no, it's— I mean, it feels like it's coded for I like white girls.
- 1:11:25That's Yes. And when you say, I don't like— I don't really like blondes,
- 1:11:29or I don't normally date blondes, it means you date not white girls. See,
- 1:11:33me, I remember one time when I was in college, I was out with a
- 1:11:36group of girls, and I guess they found me attractive. This was really cool because
- 1:11:38they were like asking me a lot of questions. I guess they found me attractive.
- 1:11:41I like how you're like, I can't believe it. Well, you have to understand,
- 1:11:44I grew up fat. When I grew up fat, that does— oh yeah, I know.
- 1:11:46A former fat kid really does always have a very specific— it does a real
- 1:11:49number to your psyche for the rest of your life because no matter what,
- 1:11:52how Whatever shape I've been in, and sometimes I've been in great shape, sometimes I'm
- 1:11:55in like not great shape, all I see is that fucking fat kid.
- 1:11:59It's crazy. I see 7th grade Cody Decker. I can't unsee
- 1:12:04it. Doesn't matter if I have hair, doesn't matter if I shave. We gotta get
- 1:12:07you to therapy, my guy. No, no, I have. There's no fixing it. There's no
- 1:12:10one doing this for you. They're just like, listen, it's just the way it is.
- 1:12:11So you just can't believe women find you attractive still? No, it makes me more
- 1:12:15appreciative. Okay, okay. I'm like, really? Thank you. Oh my God. Because you're
- 1:12:19wasting your time saying it. But if you really believe it, like,
- 1:12:23wow, gee willies, tell me more.
- 1:12:26Look, so it does occasionally happen. I'll never forget this.
- 1:12:31It was a group of girls, and I felt so bad about something
- 1:12:35because each girl was there, and everyone was— there was a girl that was
- 1:12:39Indian, a girl that was Black, a girl that was white, blonde. It literally,
- 1:12:42it was a group of— Every version of you. It was like every version of
- 1:12:45human was in front of me. It wasn't a sorority, but it was like a
- 1:12:48grouping of girls that were doing the thing. They were asking me what my type
- 1:12:51was, and I didn't really know how to answer the question.
- 1:12:55Because the answer is all
- 1:13:00of you. It's just women are my type, and it's more than that.
- 1:13:04But I did say this, and there was one redhead there,
- 1:13:07and I said, I have noticed I've never really been— I've
- 1:13:11never found myself super attracted to any particular redhead, but I don't
- 1:13:15think that's a thing. And like, she was really like— she almost looked like,
- 1:13:18oh really? And like, oh no, no, you're very— I'm—
- 1:13:22I just— no, I did— I didn't mean that. I just— in my life,
- 1:13:26I've always kind of like realized I've never dated a redhead or anything
- 1:13:29like that since. And I have dated redheads. Yeah, they are just as pretty as
- 1:13:32anyone. Sure. Um, I don't have a type. No,
- 1:13:36I don't have a type either. I really don't. Like, if you get my celebrity
- 1:13:39list, it's fucking all over. No, I don't have a type. I would say that
- 1:13:42like Like, I definitely have a type that like probably there's more people
- 1:13:46in that category than like whatever, like, but in general,
- 1:13:50I, I will find someone of every like race,
- 1:13:53gender, ethnicity attractive. Like, I have one non-type.
- 1:13:56I have something that now has like really repelled me. Hold on,
- 1:13:59can I guess? Sure. It's not a type of person. It's,
- 1:14:02it's, well, it is a type of person, but it has nothing to do with
- 1:14:06like actual features. Oh, uh, it's what they've done to the features.
- 1:14:10Oh, too much work. Too much work done is, is like
- 1:14:14a legit like issue for me. Yeah, it's— and it's
- 1:14:17like, it's not that you're ugly, TV face, right? It's like, it's TV face.
- 1:14:20Like, I really— I don't— I'm not attracted to TV face anymore. Yeah,
- 1:14:24like there was a time where I think I was because I think it was
- 1:14:26a little more— because it was novel. It was also novel for a while where
- 1:14:30it was like that, um, the Kim Kardashian face was like,
- 1:14:33oh, that's like, oh my gosh. And then so when people looked like that and
- 1:14:36it was like Instagram face and all the— everything was being pushed you looked like
- 1:14:40that, you were almost being conditioned to be like, that's the prettiest. And by the
- 1:14:42way, men do this too. And I, I like— it irks me when I see
- 1:14:46it in them too because I feel like I'm like, dude, what are you doing?
- 1:14:47Like, what's going on? Dude, it feels like they're wearing a mask. Have you seen
- 1:14:50Bradley Cooper lately? Yeah, dude, what are you doing? You look like you're wearing a
- 1:14:53mask, Bradley Cooper. I know, stop it. I hate it. Please stop it. You were
- 1:14:56like— you were the handsomest guy in every room you were in. Like, and now
- 1:15:00you— what are you doing? You know who— leave it alone. Leave it alone.
- 1:15:03You know who hasn't done that and who like Like, um, like,
- 1:15:08it's so interesting that the good-looking, like, white dudes always do that.
- 1:15:11And then, like, Idris Elba looks amazing. Amazing. Ages,
- 1:15:15ages, aging great. Denzel Washington aged beautifully all the way. And, like,
- 1:15:18now Denzel's in his 60s. He looks like he's in his 60s. You know,
- 1:15:21he's a guy who's had some work done that actually, I think, actually, that I
- 1:15:23think actually looks all right. And he's not— I'm not a fan of him personally,
- 1:15:27but, like, uh, Dennis Quaid actually doesn't look terrible. I think he looks
- 1:15:31crazy. A little crazy, but it's not— I think he started looking great. It might
- 1:15:34have gotten worse later, but I had a huge crush on Dennis Quaid as a
- 1:15:38kid. I was like a little kid like watching Parent Trap and
- 1:15:41I was like, oh, Dennis Quaid, like, that's it. Oh, are we talking 2000
- 1:15:47Dennis? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, 2000 Dennis Quaid. So like, I think he like— peak
- 1:15:51Dennis Quaid is still in my head. I hate the movie The Rookie, but listen,
- 1:15:54Dennis Quaid in The Rookie— all my childhood crushes for like adult men
- 1:15:58outside of— so it was Denzel, Dennis Quaid, and Mel
- 1:16:02Gibson. Dude, that was primetime Mel.
- 1:16:05Primetime Mel was pretty good looking. And I know you like— question, did you
- 1:16:09like, um, because he's won Sexiest Man Alive twice and he was
- 1:16:12the one I never quite understood, uh, uh, Richard Gere?
- 1:16:16Oh yeah, yeah. Okay, see, I never got that one. Yeah, no,
- 1:16:19super handsome. Mocha, does that make sense to you? Richard Gere never made sex—
- 1:16:23you know who Richard Gere is, Mocha? I don't even know that. Come on,
- 1:16:26you know who Richard Gere is. Have you ever seen An Officer and a Gentleman?
- 1:16:29No. Pretty Woman? Pretty Woman? No. You never seen
- 1:16:33Pretty Woman? Really? This is— I mean, that's actually pretty surprised by that. Pretty old
- 1:16:36school, maybe. I guess so. That came out in like 1991.
- 1:16:41Oh yeah. How many old movies have you seen? I mean, are you like an
- 1:16:44old movie guy? I mean, depends. I don't know.
- 1:16:48Anyway, what old movies? Like, I guess 1991,
- 1:16:51early '90s. We're there now. Fuck. No,
- 1:16:56really? Oh dude, you got to get into the '90s scene,
- 1:16:59dude. The '90s were a fucking great decade for movies. Oh, see,
- 1:17:02Melissa said Richard Gere is fine as fuck. Yeah, really?
- 1:17:05Yeah, really? Yeah, I never got it. Well, I clearly— he's handsome.
- 1:17:08He won Sexiest Man Alive twice, but like each time he won it,
- 1:17:12I was just like, really? Yeah, like, I, I think
- 1:17:16no. Wild, really?
- 1:17:20Runaway Bride? Nothing? He's never seen—
- 1:17:24oh, fuck that. Runaway Bride's a jam. Get the fuck out of here. That was
- 1:17:27like fucking— wait, there is a woman that's on— that should
- 1:17:31be on everyone's forever celebrity list. Um, who? Oh, Julia Roberts.
- 1:17:35Fuck yeah. So the most beautiful smile that's ever existed in the history of planet
- 1:17:39Earth. Julia Roberts right now is one of the most beautiful people. I agree,
- 1:17:42but like Notting Hill. Yeah, no, I think most beautiful
- 1:17:47woman ever lived. See, that's a perfect example of someone who, like, if she had
- 1:17:49been around now, would she have Instagram face? Like, oh, I don't know, you know
- 1:17:53what I mean? Like, would we, would we have ruined all of these faces?
- 1:17:58So I'm looking at, like, oh, uh, the People Sexiest Man Alive. I'm trying to
- 1:18:01see if any— do you know what Harrison Ford looks like, Mocha? Yes,
- 1:18:06I know. I think Harrison Ford's very attractive, huh?
- 1:18:09I don't know, like, I think he's very attractive. Yeah, young Harrison Ford.
- 1:18:13I mean, not now. I'm— he's a little old for me now. Yeah, but he
- 1:18:17still looks pretty good. He does actually still look— I mean, let's be real clear,
- 1:18:20if you're gonna be 80, I'd like to look like that when I'm 80.
- 1:18:22No, that's fair. Fuck me. Do you— okay, wait, I'm gonna try
- 1:18:26to see if there's another one on here that— Mocha, do you know what,
- 1:18:29um, do you know what Nick Nolte looked like when he
- 1:18:33was young? Jesus Christ, he was handsome. Do you know, do you know who Nick
- 1:18:36Nolte is? It did not age well. Come on, you've seen 48 Hours, right?
- 1:18:40Yeah. Fuck, Mocha,
- 1:18:44you live in an industry town, bud. Okay, but how—
- 1:18:47Pierce Brosnan? Yes. Okay, thank you. Well, come on, he was James
- 1:18:50Bond. Okay, he's— no one's ever been
- 1:18:54better as James Bond. Oh boy, I disagree, but I do appreciate that call.
- 1:18:58It's controversial, but I do love him as James Bond. No, no, he was— no,
- 1:19:01he was— yeah, he— it's also about what era you are. You first— no,
- 1:19:05no, he was, um, the first one. Now here's
- 1:19:09the thing, Pierce Brosnan's James Bond, he, he was really— his
- 1:19:13series of movies was a very disservice to how good he really was.
- 1:19:16Um, that being said, GoldenEye is maybe top 3 best Bond
- 1:19:20movie ever made. It's, it's that good, dude. When this— I like Roger Moore a
- 1:19:24lot. Oh, I hate you now. You, you're, you are now my lead. Roger Moore
- 1:19:27is dog shit, dude. All right, Roger Moore is the bottom of the barrel.
- 1:19:30We're not bottom of the barrel. How dare you? Very bottom
- 1:19:34of the barrel. Except for, except for The Spy Who Loved Me. That's a fucking
- 1:19:36classic. The rest of them— you just said, you said it was the bottom of
- 1:19:39the barrel. It was the best of the worst of his movies. Yes.
- 1:19:43Okay, well, I think we can all agree that the worst people Sexiest Man Alive
- 1:19:46ever was Blake Shelton. Oh my God, that's such a miss. That was
- 1:19:50not a good one. Him or fucking Maroon 5. Was Adam Levine
- 1:19:54also— Adam Levine was also also Sexiest Man Alive. That's a tough
- 1:19:58one. And he's getting fucked. And John Legend. Oh,
- 1:20:01they were just doing voice judges, doing the voice judges. But by the way,
- 1:20:05dude, Adam Levine's doing it. Adam Levine's doing it.
- 1:20:09Same shit. He has an Adam Levine mask on. Oh dude,
- 1:20:12you're right. Stop it, please stop it. You're right. Um, all right, here's my,
- 1:20:15uh, here's the hill I'm dying on, and it goes back a little bit to
- 1:20:19the fake tough guys thing, okay, that we did a couple weeks ago. Okay.
- 1:20:23Um, say something, UFC fans. You came
- 1:20:27after me in droves because I told you you were about to be frauded and
- 1:20:31defrauded by your fucking savior coming back to save the UFC. Say something now.
- 1:20:35I noticed everybody shut the living fuck up about everything
- 1:20:39that I had to say about Conor McGregor when Conor McGregor went out there
- 1:20:42and stole your money. I, I think there should be massive
- 1:20:46investigations. I think Uh, all the sportsbooks made so much
- 1:20:50money. There is video of him going into a wellness clinic 4 days before
- 1:20:54this even happened with a limp on the knee that wasn't injured.
- 1:20:58Just saying. Um, I think Conor McGregor belongs behind
- 1:21:01bars, but at the very least does not belong on my fucking TV,
- 1:21:04doesn't belong in the voices and lips and minds of
- 1:21:08anybody on any civilized planet. The fact that
- 1:21:11the UFC was so fucking desperate
- 1:21:15So fucking desperate to get some sort of ratings win because they decided to align
- 1:21:18themselves with political parties, even though they want to sit around talking about
- 1:21:22how they're not a political organization of any kind, thus basically
- 1:21:26kind of alienating a solid 70% of their own thing.
- 1:21:30Well, let's get some nostalgia in here. Let's get a fight that we actually had
- 1:21:34in 2013 with a guy who just
- 1:21:38got accused of taking PEDs. PEDs with a Dr. Elliot while being, uh,
- 1:21:41observed by Dr. Elitroge, something that was so important that Major
- 1:21:45League Baseball had to actually investigate it themselves because Dr.
- 1:21:48Elitroge also works with Major League Baseball players. This was an actual
- 1:21:52problem. So now you have a PED thing connected to your thing, you have a
- 1:21:56guy who has been in and out of multiple rehabs with a lot of drug
- 1:21:58offenses, you have an actual rape offense on
- 1:22:03the books. What the fuck is wrong
- 1:22:06with all you guys? And I sat here with a straight face and told you
- 1:22:10you're getting grifted. This is a joke, way out of his prime. What the fuck
- 1:22:13is even this happening? And then it actually happened within 3
- 1:22:17fucking minutes, and all of you didn't say a fucking word.
- 1:22:21Say something. You're so fucking tough about your fucking savior
- 1:22:24in this not-at-all joke of an organization. Say something.
- 1:22:28Where you at? All real fucking quiet, aren't you?
- 1:22:31Aren't you? Fucking jokes. The UFC is a
- 1:22:35joke, and all of its fans, sadly the
- 1:22:39ones that are still there, were grifted right out of their fucking
- 1:22:42money by their hero. Fucking beautiful.
- 1:22:45You fucking get exactly what you pay for. You fucking want snake
- 1:22:49oil? Well, they got all the snake oil possible.
- 1:22:52Have fun. Enjoy your fucking clown shit. I'm really glad
- 1:22:57you got that off your chest. I feel a lot better now. You're dying on
- 1:23:00the hill that you're never gonna be wrong about Conor McGregor and UFC fans getting
- 1:23:03grifted. And I genuinely agree completely. I think they're the worst fucking
- 1:23:08fans on planet Earth. They are the worst fans of anything on the planet.
- 1:23:11Sophie Cunningham, dude, she's such a fucking clown.
- 1:23:15She is such a clown. You know who else is a clown? Who's that?
- 1:23:21I think you know. Curt Schilling. Curt Schilling is a clown. But,
- 1:23:25but here's the thing though, unlike, unlike Conor
- 1:23:29McGregor and Sophie Cunningham did actually deliver an iconic postseason performance,
- 1:23:34right? He had a very good game that he pitched.
- 1:23:38All right. Do you, do you think we— we don't have time to talk about
- 1:23:40it, huh? Because we went full— he pitched a very good game. We went full
- 1:23:43show today. He did have a— other people have pitched good games too.
- 1:23:46You know, you know what? You're right. But we do have to talk about
- 1:23:50the bloody sock at some point. It's not real. It's not going to happen today.
- 1:23:53Maybe. Hey, maybe while we're gone, while I'm in Boston,
- 1:23:56Maybe we'll do Bloody Sock Vibes. Well, you are going to be in Boston.
- 1:23:58Maybe, maybe you'll feel that grift grabbing you yet again.
- 1:24:02Either way, I don't care whether I'm here in Boston. It's forever and
- 1:24:06always. Fuck Kurt Schilling. Fuck Kurt Schilling. We're the Regulars. Like, share,
- 1:24:09and subscribe.
