Transcript
- 0:36None. What's up everybody, it's your
- 0:51boy Kefi. Monday night in the world,
- 0:54sometimes Tuesday elsewhere in the world, but I'm here bringing
- 0:58you another live stream, Ghost Colt meg.com.
- 1:00It's what we do, who we are. 24/7, 364 music news, rock and
- 1:05metal mostly, but some other things on certain festival
- 1:09reviews all over the world, Interviews with bands.
- 1:11Probably checked out some of those of you here on the
- 1:13YouTube. All good things.
- 1:17All good things. So little spoiler warning.
- 1:20This is going to be a rare live review of a concert.
- 1:24I don't do enough of those. I wanted to do some more.
- 1:27And so, yeah, check out our website, itgoescalledmeg.com for
- 1:34all the things if you're interested.
- 1:37And we're going to do a live review.
- 1:39Spoilers included setlist. Maybe even a little video that I
- 1:43took of Nine Inch Nails. I was at the kick off show for
- 1:47the North American leg of the Peel It Back tour.
- 1:50It was absolutely fucking incredible.
- 1:53I have to be honest. Spoiler alert, it's incredible.
- 1:56But if you're a fan, you knew that already.
- 1:59Harriet, what up y'all? Good to see you.
- 2:02So yeah, all kinds of fun and good things.
- 2:05We are streaming everywhere, but especially the best experience
- 2:09for this is going to be Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, and
- 2:12Instagram. If you want to see video and see
- 2:15my screen with the set list and stuff, you want to join us over
- 2:18there. I am also hanging out on TikTok,
- 2:20so feel free to hang out with us.
- 2:23This is a bonus live stream. I will do another one actually
- 2:26tomorrow. And our weekly show is every
- 2:29Thursday, the weekly ritual rock and metal news show.
- 2:34So let's get into it and do the damn thing.
- 2:40And so yeah, I made a little helper deck.
- 2:45We have not covered the tour formally, so I'm hoping later in
- 2:49the tour where we've applied to cover the tour and hopefully
- 2:53bring you actual concert photography and things like
- 2:55that. But we'll definitely get into
- 3:01the whole thing and talk about just all the things was an
- 3:04incredible experience. So really quick, just for
- 3:08starters, this the 9 inch nails, if you didn't know, has been on
- 3:12tour. They did all of Europe,
- 3:14basically every major city in Europe for the peel it back
- 3:18tour, leg one. This is an unusually great tour
- 3:22from the band because they are kind of in between albums,
- 3:25right? They're going to put out this
- 3:26Tron era soundtrack, which they did play as the the debut single
- 3:30off of in concert or at least a remix of it.
- 3:34And they the next time you see them, they're probably going to
- 3:38have a fuller album to promote either the soundtrack, video
- 3:42game soundtracks. They're working on the supposed
- 3:45new 9 Inch Nails record that we were told we might get later
- 3:49this year or early next year. So I'm stoked for this and feel
- 3:56free to drop in your questions. Again, this is going to be
- 3:59spoilery. So I will make that announcement
- 4:01a few times. If you don't want to hear about
- 4:03the 9 Inch Nails tour, if you want to, just if you're going
- 4:05and you want to go in cold, don't listen any further because
- 4:09I am going to drop Prow on the whole thing and I think you'll
- 4:13enjoy it. Actually, I don't do a lot of
- 4:15these and I'm hoping to now. So thanks for hanging out with
- 4:19us. Feel free to drop comments and
- 4:23check in and give us your thoughts.
- 4:26I have to say this was an incredible show.
- 4:28We'll be a hard pressed to see a better show for me this year.
- 4:31And I've already seen some bangers.
- 4:33I've mentioned a few times on our different live streams that
- 4:37I am, you know, definitely going to less shows than I used to.
- 4:44So less is more. And we're getting some comments
- 4:48here. Michael, you and Madden, you
- 4:52know, you know, all righty cool, cool and all that.
- 4:59Thanks for being here. So yeah, good times, good times.
- 5:07Let's get into it a little bit and just talk about this this
- 5:10tour. You know, we did a Nine Inch
- 5:13Nails live stream a few months ago when they announced the
- 5:16future Rubens Festival, looked into that and it was bananas.
- 5:23The ticket costs. So right this second I would say
- 5:26I am probably not going to go to that, but I would love to
- 5:29because I love, you know, I love composers and I love soundtrack
- 5:34stuff and I love all the 9 Inch Nails soundtrack stuff as well.
- 5:39I thought Challengers last year was one of the best things I had
- 5:42heard. And the vinyl version of that
- 5:44was phenomenal. And I'm really looking forward
- 5:47to Tron. I'm a huge sci-fi nerd.
- 5:49The Tron soundtrack comes out in September, which we'll talk
- 5:53about later in the show and also ahead of more touring for Trent,
- 5:59so I think this is a pretty good run for him.
- 6:02Just a reminder in case you're curious, we are not corporate
- 6:06backed. We do take in some advertising
- 6:08money from our affiliate partners and things like that
- 6:11and some ads. But if you want to donate, feel
- 6:15free to drop a link and I'll drop the you know the content
- 6:20where you can drop us a tip. So let's begin this for a
- 6:24second. These are all the things I
- 6:26normally plug this a little bit harder on the regular show on
- 6:30Thursday, but plugging it a little bit more now and here is
- 6:33this bad boy. This is where you can find all
- 6:36our stuff. We update our link for you every
- 6:38day with all our things. So glad to have you here.
- 6:43Here's the thing. So just a reminder, a little bit
- 6:48more housekeeping on our other podcast, the Glacially Musical
- 6:52Podcast, which usually airs every Friday.
- 6:54We are in the midst of the series on Ozzy.
- 6:57Was already planned that we were going to do an Ozzy series for
- 7:00his solo career, but we are giving away bundles of vinyl and
- 7:04C DS1 each and that contest is coming to a close soon.
- 7:10So you want to check that out. It says here.
- 7:12Nice to see you. Hopefully you are getting closer
- 7:14to your show and checking in. Let us know you could DM me.
- 7:20So I'm just doing a live stream review of the 9 inch nail show.
- 7:24Again, there will be spoilers so if you don't want it spoiled for
- 7:27you, check out now if you want it.
- 7:30If you're OK with spoilers or you're curious, I think it will
- 7:34be helpful. Obviously the big news leading
- 7:38into the tour. Literally, the tour ended and
- 7:41Elon Rubin, it was reported by Variety that he had quit 9 Inch
- 7:45Nails and he had been contracted to do the next leg of the tour.
- 7:49I know his wife is imminently about to give birth.
- 7:53So, you know, maybe there was something to do with that if he
- 7:59got to sort of, you know, take a paycheck from Foo Fighters, who
- 8:02were apparently his new band, and they're not going to have a
- 8:05show for a few more months. So maybe it was an opportunity
- 8:08for him to be with his wife, which, you know, family first
- 8:10always. Music industry is not fun or,
- 8:14you know, easy or cheap to do. And then Josh Breeze just
- 8:20welcomed back with a with a social media post.
- 8:22Let's fucking go now. I don't know if they had already
- 8:25contacted Josh. I talked a bit about this
- 8:27previously on another live stream where I said, you know,
- 8:30maybe Josh was going to come fill in anyway.
- 8:33He was fired by Foo Fighters back in the spring.
- 8:35Still scratching our heads about that one.
- 8:37Looks like Elon is going to be the new drummer for Foo
- 8:40Fighters. So I know a lot of people like
- 8:42liking this to a sports trade. It's not exactly A1 for one.
- 8:46But you know, obviously Josh had been in Nine Inch Nails from
- 8:502005. His last show actually with the
- 8:53band was December 2008, which is wild if you think about it and
- 9:00but you know, absolutely excited to have him back.
- 9:03The crowd was excited to have Josh back and I will tell you
- 9:07about that. I was personally excited.
- 9:09Josh is a crushing, awesome drummer.
- 9:11I've seen him with Devo, I've seen him with Vandals, Someone
- 9:14with a Perfect Circle a few times, and I had seen him with 9
- 9:18Inch Nails once before. So, you know, we've covered the
- 9:22band for years and years. Obviously I've been a fan much
- 9:25longer than Ghost Cult has been around 9 Inch Nails, has been
- 9:28around Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a couple of years ago.
- 9:30We've covered them tours and festivals and things like that
- 9:34across the world. So I'm always, you know,
- 9:38grateful to get to see them. I went to this tour.
- 9:42A ticket was bought from me by my wonderful girlfriend,
- 9:45Melissa. And you know, life is not about
- 9:49material things, but when a person gets you and knows you,
- 9:53they they make things happen to make you happy.
- 9:56So this was amazing. I'm glad I got to go.
- 9:58It was so awesome. I went with my friend Lori here
- 10:01from San Francisco, one of my regular concert buddies.
- 10:04So yeah, these are just some photos we've shot of Nine Inch
- 10:07Nails over the years, and hopefully there'll be some more.
- 10:10There's Atticus. You saw some pictures of Trent
- 10:11if you were on the stream yard channels.
- 10:14These are all pretty great photos.
- 10:16We use them. You've seen them.
- 10:17So just really quick. This was my view of the start of
- 10:22the show. So just really quickly.
- 10:24I live in San Francisco. Oakland Arena is a short train
- 10:27ride away. We took the train over to
- 10:29Oakland. Then it's about a mile walk by
- 10:32the old baseball stadium where the A's used to play.
- 10:34And then the arena is next to the baseball stadium around the
- 10:37corner from the Oakland Coliseum.
- 10:39It's also where the Raiders played for a long time for U Bay
- 10:42Area and sports people. But it's quite a bit of a long
- 10:46walk around the one facility to the other.
- 10:50But honestly, I went very early and getting through was mad
- 10:53easy, to be honest with you. I was a pretty quick and
- 10:57painless process to get through. Was happy that this is one of
- 11:02the venues where my phone worked and there wasn't the lack of
- 11:05cell phone coverage. So it was pretty cool.
- 11:08And again, it seemed like a lot of people's good for people
- 11:12watching. A lot of people had come out,
- 11:14some old Goths, some younger fans, some parents with their
- 11:16kids, but no real little kids. You know, generally speaking,
- 11:21Oakland arenas, and I've never been, but it was now I have.
- 11:24It's was a very nice venue. It seemed pretty modern.
- 11:28And it's technically the Oracle Arena in Oakland.
- 11:32Oracle also is the name of the baseball stadium here in San
- 11:35Francisco for the Giants. Nick Kenneth is here.
- 11:38What's up, Kenneth and Lori is here.
- 11:41Lori Chamberlain. So thanks for being here.
- 11:42Elrod Carter Q Cruise All in all, thank you.
- 11:45So you know we I got in it's pretty steep to go climb up to
- 11:52the seats. I had what I consider to be a
- 11:54very good view in the corner there, beautiful sound, more or
- 12:00less, except for a few technical issues I'll talk about.
- 12:03And it was a very creative yo. And I'll get into that really
- 12:08deeply about how wildly creative this show was because it really
- 12:13was like every show I've ever seen, 9 Inch Nails has been at
- 12:16least excellent. But visually, this is a band
- 12:20that is, you know, one of the best in the world to do it.
- 12:23And I will say the last three or four times that I've seen 9 Inch
- 12:26Nails happens to coincide with the Trent's sobriety the last 10
- 12:30to 15 years. And those shows are so much
- 12:33better than even the earlier ones that I had seen.
- 12:35Like Woodstock 94 was insane, but you knew the band was like
- 12:39absolutely out of their mind on whatever.
- 12:45So yeah, wild, wild stuff. So I wanted to get to this point
- 12:53in the show and before I do the set list and things like that,
- 12:57let's let me set the stage for you.
- 13:00So Poison Noise was the opener. I was my, you know, moderately
- 13:04familiar with them. Trent is obviously a huge fan.
- 13:07These are bands that are, you know, nobody is buying on to
- 13:10play 9 Inch Nails. He you're on the tour because he
- 13:13wants you to be there. He's clearly a fan.
- 13:15They admire each other's work. He's remixed them.
- 13:18They remixed him. So we were sitting facing the
- 13:23stage and the stage is covered with a big curtain.
- 13:25And then there's this smaller, what I found out to be a smaller
- 13:30stage, and this is the spoilery part of the video here.
- 13:33So again, if you're into it, cool.
- 13:35If you're not, I hate spoilers myself, and I don't want to
- 13:38spoil anything for anybody if you don't want it to be spoiled.
- 13:42But on the other hand, I think it's super interesting to talk
- 13:44about this setting the bar for a lot of tours the rest of this
- 13:47year. So there was a smaller stage
- 13:49that was covered by this, I guess this square box curtain
- 13:54and boys noise was playing from within the square.
- 13:57And what I think happened is the the audience around the square
- 14:00and facing the square with their backs to the stage, they were
- 14:05able to watch them. I was not able to really see
- 14:09them, but we heard them. And interestingly enough, they
- 14:12played for a full hour, almost a whole hour, just straight up
- 14:17didn't talk to the crowd, just jammed, which was fun.
- 14:20You know, DJ playing basically synth wave and hard electronic
- 14:26music live. And some of the songs seem
- 14:29familiar, and it turned out that some of them were very familiar.
- 14:32It was a very heavy step on originals and covers, which is
- 14:36fun. I think it kind of reminded me
- 14:38of an MTV Unplugged set where the artists always, you know,
- 14:43would show you who their influences are by covering a lot
- 14:46of bands, which I thought was hella interesting.
- 14:51Yo, what's up, Ken? Appreciate you, Kenneth.
- 14:54So, yeah, it was really, it was a really interesting and cool
- 15:00set, to be honest with you. I think it was.
- 15:06It was very well constructed. And I'll talk about their set
- 15:09list in a second. And then basically that box that
- 15:14covered the stage came up and it was only like a couple of
- 15:19minutes changeover before 9 Inch Nails came on.
- 15:21So before I do anything else, let's talk about the setlist.
- 15:25I have the 9 inch Nail setlist here, but what I'm going to do
- 15:28is first bring up the boys noise setlist and just run the real
- 15:31quick in case you're a fan, you might be a fan.
- 15:33Let's find out. So yeah, here's the boys Noise
- 15:37set here. You can watch this now.
- 15:40Should be seeing it. So the boys noise settler list
- 15:46they came out. I immediately recognized
- 15:48hamburger lady from throbbing grizzle.
- 15:50I'm a huge fan. So that was on tape and it was
- 15:53pretty loud and the lights came down and it was just all this
- 15:56red and it for a long time it was just solid red and a
- 15:59pummeling of industrial and you know, hard beats.
- 16:04So they opened up there with their originals Greenpoint, girl
- 16:07crush, close and revolt. I feel like Greenpoint and Girl
- 16:11Crush are also their two best known songs.
- 16:15Take my breath. They did a little cover of the
- 16:17weekend. I wasn't really familiar with
- 16:19the song but it was cool people did seem to acknowledge it.
- 16:22A split second cover was done next by the song Flash Voices
- 16:27from Neon fortified by Curses. Fatal Error. self-titled song.
- 16:33Usually a song named for band is not as good and Sal review pass
- 16:37by What up, what up and then waiting for a surprise, which
- 16:43was a red axis cover, a few more originals curses, a Trenton
- 16:47Atticus song. I know a Nitsareb cover and just
- 16:50lost a Nitsareb vocalist Doug McCarthy mega core for pulse
- 16:56Reiner and a couple of other things.
- 16:59So a very long set, like 18 songs in, in about 50 minutes,
- 17:0355 minutes that they played. And it was really barely a
- 17:08changeover, to be honest with you.
- 17:10It was pretty startling. But again, then we got back, you
- 17:20know, like, the lights went down for just a few seconds and the,
- 17:23you know, a light sort of a spotlight was on the little B
- 17:26stage. And it turned out to be Trent
- 17:29just alone with a keyboard. And he came out was really
- 17:33surprising. I think people were caught off
- 17:36guard that he just started the show just solo piano and himself
- 17:40kind of the way he started 9 Inch Nails, to be honest with
- 17:43you. And, you know, he says often
- 17:47that he, you know, he often, you know, thought that he might just
- 17:53never make it in other music and just be a, you know, just be a
- 17:59composer and and, you know, obviously 9 Inch Nails opened up
- 18:03a lot of doors for him, which is wild.
- 18:09But yeah, so Trent comes out alone.
- 18:11I think people were so stunned. The majority of people were not
- 18:14filming. There was only a smattering of
- 18:16cameras through the your phones, cameras through the venue.
- 18:19Most people were just like, what is happening?
- 18:22He's just up there by himself, Elton John and Billy Joel in
- 18:25this thing. But it was amazing actually, to
- 18:28be honest with you. It was really interesting and
- 18:30clever choice. And the back bigger stage was
- 18:34kind of smoky and covered with lights and still with the big
- 18:37curtain. And Trent started out and I'll
- 18:42share this screen here again with the 9 Inch Nails setlist.
- 18:48And again, spoilers for the 9 Inch Nails setlist in Oakland
- 18:52and this tour. I know they did a slightly
- 18:54different set list every night in Europe and it seems like they
- 18:58are playing different songs, but this is, you know, like they're
- 19:02doing the set list in stages. 9 inch nails.
- 19:05So there's a small baby, the B stage with the smaller stage and
- 19:09then the mainstage and then back to the B stage and then back to
- 19:12the mainstage. So he opened up with the right
- 19:15where It belongs acoustic piano version with a little somewhat
- 19:18damaged in there at the outro. Then he did like 3/4 of the song
- 19:24Ruiner, which is one of the most raw and awesome songs on The
- 19:28Downward Spiral, which turned 30 last year.
- 19:30Hard to Believe and Electric Wizard, What up?
- 19:34Karate Steve Band, What up that Salad reviews and Skull Basher,
- 19:39what up, what up? Good to see you all.
- 19:41Everybody's chiming in and checking it out.
- 19:44And so yeah, pretty wild set list here.
- 19:49So we're going to talk, we're going to talk about this set
- 19:52list now because it's I'm personally like, I'm amazed
- 19:58frankly, about this set list. So let's see.
- 20:07Yeah. So the whole set list just so
- 20:09you can get a flavor for it started with the right where it
- 20:12belongs. Did this acoustic version of
- 20:14Ruiner. And then kind of by the end of
- 20:17Ruiner, it became the Ruiner we all know.
- 20:19And then Piggy was also like a little bit dynamic or it was
- 20:23soft and then obviously, you know, as a creepy, sinister part
- 20:29to it. That was really fantastic.
- 20:32And then they he just ended up going to the bigger stage and
- 20:37the curtain came up and they came on full bore with Wish and
- 20:42it was pretty incredible. The second set of the songs were
- 20:46clearly heavier, clearly meant to showcase the band.
- 20:50I mean, Wish just rips. Josh just thundered away.
- 20:55I think Elon Rubin is an incredible drummer also, but
- 20:58just really amazing job by Josh. So then they followed with Wish,
- 21:03March of the Pigs, Reptile RC copy of A, which is a great
- 21:08song. Gave up.
- 21:10These are just unbelievable bangers all in a row.
- 21:14And then there was, you know, we talked a little bit to this, to
- 21:18the crowd, just how you doing? How's everybody feeling?
- 21:20Thanks for coming. And didn't talk too much the
- 21:24rest of the show, just here and there.
- 21:25Then they popped back up on the B stage and which I found super
- 21:31interesting. The B stage.
- 21:34He was joined by boys noise for like a mini set with them.
- 21:38So they played Vessel as Alive as You Need Me to Be, which was
- 21:42kind of like an extended remix of the track with Boys Noise.
- 21:45That's the Tron Airy song, which has got very OG 9 Inch Nails
- 21:51vibes. And then this really cool, kind
- 21:54of like a live remix of Sin from Pretty Hate Machine along with
- 22:01the Boys Noise song Cerebral. So they were kind of like going
- 22:05at the same time. And then toward the end of the
- 22:06song, some water just spilled on Trent, like he got doused his
- 22:12keyboard and him this kind of actually really interesting.
- 22:15He was like, what is happening? I just got soaked with water.
- 22:17Is there a toilet up there? It's pretty funny.
- 22:19I think it was just kind of like an air, air conditioning run off
- 22:24because it's been so hot in the East Bay of Layton has not been
- 22:28hot at all here in San Francisco.
- 22:29Nice and cool. He did have some microphone
- 22:33issues during the show, occasionally his mic cut out,
- 22:37but there was a very nice job of sort of backup singing by the
- 22:40other members of the band and himself.
- 22:42I will play a little bit of this sin remix from a video I have,
- 22:46see if you guys enjoy it. And then also came back haunted
- 22:49with boys noise. And then he left and he hit the
- 22:51mainstage, which I will bring back and talk about the end of
- 22:54the setlist in a little while. Yeah, let's just for a second,
- 23:00let's see if I can call up this video that I am, and I may at
- 23:04some point upload it. I should have had this video
- 23:08ready, but I didn't. But this is the only full song I
- 23:11videoed. I wanted to really be present
- 23:16and watch the show. So unfortunately you guys aren't
- 23:18sick for not seeing this, but everybody else is going to see
- 23:21kind of what this mini stage looks like in front of the big
- 23:24state. So we didn't really know it was
- 23:30the song Sin until we heard the sample at the beginning.
- 23:36Now this is just absolutely stunning.
- 23:46You can hear the crowd acknowledging what the sound is
- 23:48and and cheering around. Pretty fun.
- 23:59Just watch this for a second. You
- 24:12can kind of see when the smaller stage is illuminated.
- 24:17There's videographers all over the arena and the stage
- 24:22screaming the live video on the big canvas of the stage and the
- 24:29screen. The band is up there also kind
- 24:33of playing at different times, but this is just boys noise.
- 24:36And Trent here at the bottom of the image so you can hear him
- 24:41singing it now. So good.
- 24:55This is kind of a fun treat for fans to get this kind of version
- 25:01of the song. I thought this was hella good.
- 25:04And you can see kind of, again, there's like so much going on,
- 25:10multiple lighting sources. The sound was actually pretty
- 25:13Immaculate. Obviously the cell phone video
- 25:15is not going to do it justice, but there was a sometimes you
- 25:20couldn't tell if it was a projection, if it was smoke and
- 25:23lights. That was so creative and
- 25:25interesting and I really like this boy's noise.
- 25:29Like I really thought this mini set with Trent and boys noise
- 25:33was a lot of fun. Trenton Atticus, by the way,
- 25:35both on stage with boys noise. So that was really cool.
- 25:39And again, occasionally there was some audible problems with
- 25:43trans Mike and obviously him getting wet or what doused with
- 25:46water. That kind of sucked for him.
- 25:48But you know, he was pretty funny.
- 25:52And after the boys noise set, he went back to he went back to the
- 26:00big stage. Kenneth, this is actually live
- 26:02on YouTube as well right now. That's that's the best
- 26:05experience for this is YouTube and and twitch and stuff.
- 26:08But Instagram has the small version.
- 26:10So if you want to come over and and see what I showed, I'm
- 26:15trying to get demonetized, but I am trying to share my experience
- 26:18with everybody. So again he rejoined the big
- 26:22stage and then again he he went basically all bangers to the end
- 26:31of the set. So let's just look at the set
- 26:33list one more time. And so the end of the set comes
- 26:35up after the boys noise break of four songs.
- 26:38It wasn't really an air mission or anything.
- 26:40And they came back with somewhat damage, less than a very long
- 26:45version of closer with the only time in the breakdown in the
- 26:49middle. I also kind of thought I heard a
- 26:52little bit of that's what I get in there.
- 26:54I'm not sure if it was formally that's what I get, but it
- 26:58sounded like it. The sample and the singing The
- 27:01Perfect Drug, which is an absolute banger and a really
- 27:03difficult song kind of to do Breath wise is so wordy and
- 27:07verbose that I think that it's a really challenging song to do
- 27:10live. Also The Hand That Feeds so
- 27:13amazing. And then closing out with Head
- 27:16Like a Hole and Hurt of course. And the final closing song, sort
- 27:22of the walk off tape is Laura Palmer's theme from Twin Peaks
- 27:25by Angelo Balamenti, who's clearly an inspiration.
- 27:29The Trenton worked with Angelo on Lost Highway and just a
- 27:34phenomenal, phenomenal set list, right?
- 27:3820 songs, basically the stuff I know that you could probably put
- 27:42a set list together or stuff that was left out, but it's
- 27:44mostly from the Downward Spiral and Pretty Hate Machine with
- 27:50every other record represented a little bit, including the Tron
- 27:55Heiress song. So it's kind of, you know,
- 27:57really cool, except for Ghosts and those those records, not
- 28:01everything was represented, but pretty amazing I have to say.
- 28:07And again, I was pretty amusing when Trent introduced the band
- 28:13which has banned. Hey, Dre 22 K7.
- 28:17Hopefully this review, this spoiler review doesn't spoil it
- 28:21for you. You know, Mike Fonsec is passing
- 28:24by. Tell me.
- 28:26Oh, yeah, we're big David Lynch people and big Twin Peaks
- 28:28people. Here it goes cold.
- 28:32Tell me, like, if you're going to go see a show, do you watch
- 28:34live videos? You know, I know right now it's
- 28:37very controversial. People who I videoed that one
- 28:40whole song and a couple of other snippets, but I really didn't
- 28:42take my phone out too much during the show.
- 28:46I really was present and enjoyed myself.
- 28:48We're covering Ghost tonight in Phoenix and you know that's a no
- 28:51phones experience, even though people are still ripping open
- 28:54those pouches. You know, Maynard James Keenan,
- 28:56the city doesn't like people with their phones.
- 28:58But I really felt like for a good portion of the show people
- 29:02were really present and not on their phones.
- 29:05It seemed like not to me, as many people as I expected were
- 29:09on their phones. One interesting thing about the
- 29:12venue is they kept running out of the good beer.
- 29:14They kept running out of craft beer.
- 29:16My friend went to get beer and it took them 45 minutes to get a
- 29:19beer. And even, you know, like we're
- 29:21talking about Lagunitas. I don't really want to spend
- 29:24arena beer prices on a Coors Light or Modello, But if you
- 29:27had, if that's your thing, cool. But I don't know if you do your
- 29:32homework before you go see a show and listen to music and
- 29:35watch videos and look at the set list.
- 29:37And you know, I didn't look at the setlist before.
- 29:40I thought I had been looking at the setlists in Europe as a
- 29:44comparison, and they are similar.
- 29:46But yeah, Trent introduced the band, which in case you didn't
- 29:49know, of course, Trenton Atticus for us, are really the only
- 29:51permanent members now. And so in addition to Josh, who
- 29:55we've talked a lot about, and I'll talk about him one more
- 29:57time in a second because he was really phenomenal.
- 29:59Obviously Robin Fink and Alessandro Cortini have been
- 30:03with the band for a very long time, including overlapping the
- 30:06time Josh was in before briefly. So he has had, you know,
- 30:13obviously Atticus has been in the band since 2016.
- 30:16Live, Robin and Alessandro have been touring consistently since
- 30:212013 and parts before that. And obviously Josh was in from
- 30:272005 to 2008 and now he's back. And when he introduced the whole
- 30:33band, people were, you know, cheering and such.
- 30:36And when they cheat, when Josh was announced, like the whole
- 30:39place erupted in its cheer for two solid minutes, which, you
- 30:44know, I think is is super interesting that, you know, Josh
- 30:48was highlighted like that. I think it was really nice,
- 30:51honestly. So, you know, it was an
- 30:56incredible show. Again, the sound was pretty
- 30:59great. The visuals were stunning.
- 31:01Probably some of the best visuals I've seen in years.
- 31:04And I always say that 9 Inch Nails is one of those bands that
- 31:07it really sets the bar for a visual concert experience.
- 31:10It's not just all these great songs that are meaningful and
- 31:13bangers and all this other stuff.
- 31:15And it's really kind of create this really great curated show.
- 31:19Visually, it is an astounding show.
- 31:23Like whatever the tickets cost, it's worth it.
- 31:25The high production value. Merch was OK.
- 31:30I will upload a merch video later on tonight or tomorrow.
- 31:36It was all right. It was pretty pricey for, you
- 31:38know, the Live Nation Arena venue.
- 31:40And I wasn't like, I didn't need to have anything that was there
- 31:45had some dad hats. They had long sleeve and short
- 31:47sleeve shirts. Short sleeve shirts for about 45
- 31:50bucks. Only two variations, red and
- 31:53black with the two dates and a long sleeve that was like, I'm
- 31:58going to say $65 and hoodies were 90 and they were both
- 32:02pullover hoodies, which I only like zip zip up hoodies.
- 32:05But that's just me personally. It was a tote bag for 30.
- 32:09There was a few other tchotchkes and this and that, but not
- 32:12really a great amount of merch. But maybe they sold most of it
- 32:15in Europe and they don't have a lot for the US store.
- 32:18But it seemed like they had a ton of stuff.
- 32:20I just didn't love the selection.
- 32:23I don't know, but yeah, just to keep it 100 on the 9 inch nails
- 32:28stuff, I am really like I said this, this it was really well
- 32:34done. Like really well done
- 32:38surprisingly so. So just really quick.
- 32:44So we have what's coming up for 9 Inch Nails this tour.
- 32:47Tron Error is soundtrack, Tron Errors movie.
- 32:50So I think that's a lot of things to get excited about.
- 32:54This Future Ruins festival again is taking place in November at
- 32:59the Aquarian Equestrian Center in Los Angeles.
- 33:03And it's all composers and we're not 100% sure what Trenton
- 33:06Atticus are going to do visually or musically, but it's art and
- 33:10music. I mean Danny Elfman, Goblin,
- 33:15Howard Shore, who has never really performed live, John
- 33:18Carpenter, Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein, Mark Mothersboro
- 33:22of Devo Questlove doing the the Superfly soundtrack with a with
- 33:28a band and maybe an orchestra. Volker Breidleman and Hauschka
- 33:35Terrence Blanchard, who is also really only done limited
- 33:38conducting and things like this. So this is really cool and I
- 33:42think it's probably worth going to see.
- 33:43And then like I said, Tron Eras is coming out.
- 33:46The soundtrack comes out 9/19 the week of my birth.
- 33:49And then the Tron Eras movie is coming out in October, and there
- 33:54was a preview of it at Comic Con this last weekend.
- 33:57So again, here's the Peel It Back door.
- 33:59If you have a chance to go, definitely go see it.
- 34:02Hopefully we will get lucky enough to cover the tour
- 34:04formally with a concert review and 10 and photographs.
- 34:08I may yet add this kind of review our website with a little
- 34:12write up, but I'm really glad I got to go.
- 34:14Thanks again to my girl Melissa. Love you, thank you, and what an
- 34:19incredible time to be alive that we have this 9 Inch Nails tour
- 34:23that is really a lot of deep cuts and interesting stuff.
- 34:28Like it's not, you know, a lot of other bands just run paint by
- 34:31numbers obviously had like a Hole in Hurt Order and Closer
- 34:34are in there. I think there's been shows where
- 34:37Closer is played toward the beginning of the set.
- 34:39I think there were shows in Europe.
- 34:41But basically everything else can change.
- 34:44But I'd like a Hole in Hurt are always your closers and just a
- 34:49phenomenal, phenomenal experience for me personally.
- 34:53That's it for now. We'll be back tomorrow with
- 34:55another live stream. I have a special surprise live
- 34:58stream tomorrow for you guys. Not a surprise, but what it is,
