  just how chaotic this all was, but for those who aren't quite

  familiar, let's take a look back, starting with Shane.

  The YouTube faced serious backlash amid the Black Lives
• 11:22
  Matter movement in 2020 when multiple resurfaced videos and
• 11:26
  photos began circulating of the star engaging in racist jokes,
• 11:29
  blackface, sexualizing animals and minors, and saying the N
• 11:33
  word. Among the examples was a
• 11:35
  2012/2013 video of Shane pretending to masturbate to a
• 11:40
  poster of Willow Smith, daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett
• 11:44
  Smith. At the time, Willow was a minor
• 11:46
  at just 11 years old, while Shane was in his mid 20s, making
• 11:50
  it all very disturbing and inappropriate.

  Shortly after the clip began circulating, Jaden Smith took to
• 11:57
  Twitter to respond to his younger sister being sexualized

  by an adult man Jada Pinkett Smith.

  Willow's mother also got involved, tweeting that she was

  done with Shane Dawson's excuses.

  The resurface clip came off the back of Shane's attempt at

  apologizing to his followers. In a now infamous video titled

  Taking Accountability, the star said that his behavior was
• 12:18
  largely the result of mental health struggles.

  His apology video was not well received, with many viewers

  feeling as if Shane was making excuses and that he only

  addressed his past behavior because he got caught.

  From here, his fall from grace was swift.

  Shane lost millions of followers practically overnight, and

  YouTube made the uncharacteristic decision to

  temporarily demonetize the creator's three channels.

  As a result, Shane retreated from the viral space, and many

  believed he would never return. Of course, that wasn't actually

  the case. Shane has since returned to

  YouTube and continues to post content mainly through his

  podcast. Around the same time, Jeffrey

  faced similar backlash here. Social media users started

  calling for his cancellation after photos surfaced of Jeffrey

  causing self harm, which he posted himself and posing with a
• 13:09
  confederate flag. There was also a screenshot

  circulating from a social media profile page of Jeffrey's called
• 13:14
  Lipstick Nazi, which led many to believe he had a beauty brand
• 13:18
  prior to Jeffree Star Cosmetics with this name.

  Of course, this was on top of all the other backlash he had

  received about the racist comments he made and attempted

  to apologize for in the past. In a note posted to Twitter on

  June 19th, 2020, Jeffrey addressed the situation and said

  he agrees that the Jeffrey star from 10 to 15 years ago should

  be cancelled. Of the profile page, Jeffrey

  said that when he was a teenager, he referred to

  everyone who liked makeup as a lipstick Nazi quote.

  It was offensive, derogatory and for shock value, he said.

  horrible images of me self harming from the Internet.

  He continued. He asked that anyone who still

  has access to that photo to please stop sharing it as it was

  triggering for him. Lastly, Jeffrey explained the

  photo of him posing with a confederate flag quote.

  I was asked to be in that photo for shock value because I was

  gay and obviously not what the flag represents.

  He claims I was mocking the flag, but now I see how ugly and

  wrong it is to be next to it. While Jeffrey and Shane were

  already in the middle of controversy for their

  problematic behavior, both creators also faced backlash for

  allegedly manipulating Tati Westbrook into releasing the By

  Sister video against James Charles.

  refute the claims in a deleted Instagram live.

  For example, Shane called Tati insane and manipulative before

  accusing her of fake crying. However, these attempts were

  rather futile, with various sources coming forth and

  seemingly confirming the speculations.

  Former model for Jeffrey Star Cosmetics turned Jeffrey Star's

  friend Cameron Lester was one such example.

  Cam jumped on Instagram Live in mid 2020 to officially cut ties

  with Jeffrey, Jeffrey * Cosmetics and Shane Dawson.

  In his video, Cam said he was allegedly told by members of

  Jeffrey's camp to keep quiet on his experiences, but he no

  with all of this. James is playing with so much

  fire. Karma is in full swing lately.

  As the cancellation snowballed, creators across the viral space

  distance themselves from Shane and Jeffrey.

  But there was one influencer who spoke out against these

  cancellations, Trisha Paytas. The catch was she only defended

  Shane at first. Trisha took to Twitter,

  retweeting a post by another creator, Brittany Taylor.

  According to Business Insider, Brittany's tweet referenced an

  instance where Shane gave an iPad to a stranger and supported

  her throughout her abusive relationship.
