- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to Bill Handle on demand from KFI AM
- 0:04Speaker 1: six forty.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Knows. And this is the part that I love. This
- 0:12Speaker 2: is political speak at its best. The main theme of
- 0:16Speaker 2: her speech is we Angelino's must come together ahead of
- 0:21Speaker 2: the twenty twenty eight Olympics.
- 0:23Speaker 1: We all have to get along.
- 0:25Speaker 2: She was a big fan of Rodney King clearly, and
- 0:29Speaker 2: was thinking about him as she discussed what we have
- 0:32Speaker 2: to do in the city.
- 0:33Speaker 1: We've got to get along, all of us. And now
- 0:37Speaker 1: Handle on the news, ladies and gentlemen. Here's Bill Handle.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Good morning everybody, Wednesday morning, February the fourth.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Just a quick one, guys, and well, first of hello.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Amy morning, Well hello Bill, Oh.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Hello, it's too happy for me? All right, Cono you're up?
- 0:59Speaker 1: Oh hello?
- 1:00Speaker 2: Oh okay, too happy. Cole Schreiber, Hello, Bill Way way
- 1:05Speaker 2: too happy. And finally, and and please save this.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Good morning, Bad Billy.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Bad that's my news to got it. So I'm gonna
- 1:17Speaker 2: be the third tier traction at the Super Bowl halftime show, right.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Oh yeah, okay, next to bad Bunny.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Y Hey, that promo that we're running, you know, we'll
- 1:33Speaker 2: get along. You're referring to Karen bass in or State
- 1:36Speaker 2: of the city speech, right, you know, and obviously a
- 1:40Speaker 2: reference to Rodney King when he was asked.
- 1:43Speaker 1: About what happened with the LA riots.
- 1:46Speaker 2: You know, I did I share this with you that
- 1:48Speaker 2: I actually interviewed Rodney King on the show somewhat after
- 1:53Speaker 2: some time after that. I have never had an interview
- 1:56Speaker 2: like Rodney Kings and all the decades I've been doing radio,
- 2:00Speaker 2: he grunted through the entire interview. He had his attorney
- 2:05Speaker 2: with him who did some speaking, and I would turn
- 2:08Speaker 2: to King and I would ask a question, what does
- 2:13Speaker 2: that mean? And then the attorney would answer some throw
- 2:17Speaker 2: some answer in there, and then a minute or two later,
- 2:20Speaker 2: I would turn to Rodney King and go, so, let
- 2:22Speaker 2: me ask you, what did you think at this point
- 2:26Speaker 2: or at this time whatever? And he would answer with, Okay,
- 2:31Speaker 2: what does that mean. I've never had anybody grunt through
- 2:35Speaker 2: an entire interview. It was one of the best. We
- 2:38Speaker 2: should actually have that somewhere in the archives, because that's
- 2:41Speaker 2: something that's always great fun to listen to.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I've had some real doozies interviews.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Hung up on Arnold Schwarzenegger and wouldn't interview him anymore
- 2:54Speaker 2: after the second or third time when his PR person
- 2:57Speaker 2: called up, the governor would like to be on the show, okay,
- 3:01Speaker 2: And so I would ask him a question. He would
- 3:03Speaker 2: have instantly answered well Bill, and then go into his
- 3:06Speaker 2: talking points like any politician.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I said, that's great, Governor. Now the question is and
- 3:13Speaker 1: I'd ask the.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Question, well Bill, and then repeat the talking point Governor,
- 3:18Speaker 2: you're not answering the question, please, well Bill, and the
- 3:24Speaker 2: talking points again, gotta go, thank you so much. And
- 3:28Speaker 2: the next time the PR person or the communications guy
- 3:32Speaker 2: calls and we really can't do that.
- 3:35Speaker 1: You know who?
- 3:36Speaker 2: Historically and not giving you a little bit of a
- 3:39Speaker 2: history of this show, you know who. The greatest politician
- 3:42Speaker 2: who I had on the show, who I absolutely admired
- 3:45Speaker 2: beyond admiration, was John McCain when he was running for office.
- 3:51Speaker 1: John McCain not only was a genuine hero.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Trump's out of his mind saying that he wasn't a
- 3:57Speaker 2: hero because he was captured by the.
- 3:59Speaker 1: North Vietnam North Vietnamese during the Vietnam War, but.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Also he was then the least bs politician I've ever
- 4:07Speaker 2: heard in my life. I'd ask him a question and
- 4:10Speaker 2: he'd answer it straight out. I go, so, Senator, do
- 4:14Speaker 2: you think that was a mistake, goes you bet, I did.
- 4:18Speaker 2: I mean, just straight on, just a great interview.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Okay.
- 4:23Speaker 2: And then of course my fun escapade with Donald Trump,
- 4:27Speaker 2: way way way before he ran for president. Okay, guys,
- 4:33Speaker 2: let me see what do we have going? You know,
- 4:35Speaker 2: the Savannah Guthries mom case. Man, that is so strange.
- 4:40Speaker 2: And you know you cover this amy, you know, because
- 4:43Speaker 2: you're a newsperson. How strange do you find both the
- 4:47Speaker 2: reporting and the information that's coming out.
- 4:50Speaker 1: On this case?
- 4:50Speaker 3: Everything is so bizarre about it, like why would you
- 4:53Speaker 3: kidnap an eighty four year old woman? Like what what's
- 4:57Speaker 3: the motivation behind that? And now there's talking talk of
- 5:01Speaker 3: possible ransom notes, but we don't know are those real
- 5:03Speaker 3: ransom notes or were those maybe done by copycats because
- 5:08Speaker 3: they said, well, we were not saying if there's any ransom,
- 5:10Speaker 3: and all of a sudden, ransom notes pop up.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:12Speaker 2: TMZ reported that there was a ransom note, but also
- 5:16Speaker 2: reported that it was not corroborated. TMZ is is I
- 5:21Speaker 2: rely on TMZ far more than I do any other
- 5:24Speaker 2: news outlet, if you want to call it a news outlet.
- 5:27Speaker 2: I believe it that they're almost never wrong, right, So.
- 5:32Speaker 3: But they're saying that they demand they're demanding millions in bitcoin,
- 5:36Speaker 3: which then there's all this speculation, Well, who would call
- 5:39Speaker 3: for bitcoin? It would be a younger person who's looking
- 5:41Speaker 3: for bitcoin and.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Or someone who has really looked into it and realizes
- 5:46Speaker 2: that I cannot be traced. And it's not a bunch
- 5:49Speaker 2: of one hundred dollars bills in a duffel bag you
- 5:52Speaker 2: drop off at the foot of a bridge either where
- 5:54Speaker 2: everybody can see where you are.
- 5:55Speaker 1: You're right, it's just too strange.
- 5:56Speaker 2: And is there any connection to the fact that this
- 5:58Speaker 2: is Savannah got three mom?
- 6:01Speaker 1: And that was the reason and.
- 6:06Speaker 2: The kind of attention that it's getting it is and
- 6:09Speaker 2: we're hearing nothing from the authorities.
- 6:11Speaker 1: We'll see.
- 6:12Speaker 2: We do know that it was determined to be a
- 6:14Speaker 2: crime scene and an abduction that was made pretty clear,
- 6:21Speaker 2: and the fact that she needed medication that was life
- 6:24Speaker 2: threatening if she.
- 6:25Speaker 3: Didn't have it right, And they said that they did
- 6:27Speaker 3: find a thing of pills at the house. And then
- 6:32Speaker 3: there was also I was watching something and they were
- 6:35Speaker 3: talking about how she had a ring camera, but people
- 6:38Speaker 3: when authorities got there that looks like the camera had
- 6:42Speaker 3: been taken off of its mount that sat outside her house.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Yeah, but that doesn't mean that there wasn't recorded and
- 6:51Speaker 2: kept somewhere in the cloud. I just put in an
- 6:54Speaker 2: alarm system at my house with cameras and they're immediately recorded.
- 6:58Speaker 2: And you can tear the cameras drown all you want,
- 7:01Speaker 2: but you know the images are still recorded. All right, Uh,
- 7:05Speaker 2: let's do it. Time for handle on the news. Notice
- 7:07Speaker 2: I didn't say good morning to Neil because Neil is
- 7:10Speaker 2: under the weather, which really we all are, because weather
- 7:15Speaker 2: is around us all the time and it's above us.
- 7:19Speaker 2: And I've under I've always wondered about that phrase. He
- 7:22Speaker 2: is under the weather. Okay, yeah, he certainly is. Okay,
- 7:28Speaker 2: why don't we do it. Time for handle on the news?
- 7:31Speaker 2: And it's Amy and me lead story. It's shut down,
- 7:37Speaker 2: as I had said. And by the way, this was
- 7:38Speaker 2: no prescient move, and you know, there's no genius. The
- 7:43Speaker 2: thinking here is that the government shut down did end
- 7:46Speaker 2: after a couple of days, and the President of course
- 7:49Speaker 2: signed the bill because he was very anxious to keep
- 7:51Speaker 2: the government going, and the Democrats basically prevailed on this one.
- 7:55Speaker 1: For the most part.
- 7:56Speaker 2: The bill itself funds the entire government until next September,
- 8:02Speaker 2: the entire fiscal year except for Department of Homeland Security,
- 8:07Speaker 2: which the ICE and Border Patrol is under the Department
- 8:14Speaker 2: of Homeland Yes, Amy.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Except that the ICE funding is separate we were.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Talking to from, separate from the entire entire department.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Yeah, So DHS, TSA, those FEMA, those things are under
- 8:32Speaker 3: that two week But the ICE funding is already in place,
- 8:37Speaker 3: and it's separate from this pack the spending.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Pat now that I didn't know, so that has been funded.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Ice the most controversial of all of the agencies or
- 8:47Speaker 2: departments that has been funded well, while the rest of
- 8:51Speaker 2: it has not.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Right, But the fight is over ICE and the way
- 8:56Speaker 3: that they're carrying out the immigration. But it's not for
- 8:59Speaker 3: the funding of ICE.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Yeah, And that's the only thing Congress can do is
- 9:02Speaker 2: fund Congress has no authority to tell ICE how it
- 9:07Speaker 2: runs its operations or how Homeland Security oversees the border
- 9:12Speaker 2: patrol and the way immigrants are dealt with deported, detained.
- 9:19Speaker 2: That's fascinating, but fascinating. But in any case, the Democrats
- 9:23Speaker 2: got their wish that there was no funding except for ICE,
- 9:28Speaker 2: as Amy said, which I just I think it's kind
- 9:31Speaker 2: of intuitive to everything the Democrats wanted, and there's a
- 9:34Speaker 2: two week push.
- 9:36Speaker 1: On this one to negotiate it separately. And so that's
- 9:40Speaker 1: good news. Governments really is running it.
- 9:41Speaker 2: That really didn't affect much of anybody because the Republicans
- 9:45Speaker 2: weren't going to take a chance again. The Democrats weren't
- 9:47Speaker 2: going to take a chance again because this time the
- 9:49Speaker 2: Democrats could have been blamed for a lengthy shutdown, right, Amy, Yes,
- 9:58Speaker 2: we did this already.
- 9:59Speaker 3: Yes, we already talked about Savannah.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Nancy got three in the ransom note. And you know
- 10:05Speaker 2: my question this is I'd be interested. I mean, what
- 10:08Speaker 2: kind of medication she was on, Not that that has
- 10:12Speaker 2: anything to do with the case, but it's the question
- 10:14Speaker 2: of the transparency of the authorities. We talk a lot
- 10:20Speaker 2: about transparency, and it's it's something that we all want
- 10:24Speaker 2: to know, right, But.
- 10:25Speaker 3: It falls I'm guessing that it would fall under HIPPA,
- 10:30Speaker 3: so they can't tell us.
- 10:31Speaker 1: I don't know if it does fall under.
- 10:32Speaker 3: HIPPA because it's not health officials.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I understand.
- 10:36Speaker 2: I don't think because it's when you talk about the
- 10:39Speaker 2: sheriff's department that's not a provider of medical services.
- 10:44Speaker 1: And would you look that up.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Does information released by a police authority fall under the
- 10:52Speaker 2: HIPPA rules, which, of course says Amy just said, keeps
- 10:57Speaker 2: all medical information private.
- 11:00Speaker 1: For example, you would you.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Cannot know how many times I, if ever, for example,
- 11:08Speaker 2: had an STD three times.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Okay.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Just before, Amy has some breaking news, pretty important news.
- 11:16Speaker 2: We were discussing Anne Guthrie, who is the mother of
- 11:22Speaker 2: Savannah Guthrie, and her disappearance slash possible kidnapping.
- 11:27Speaker 1: We don't know at this point.
- 11:29Speaker 2: And I had mentioned that the authorities are not letting
- 11:33Speaker 2: us so, for example, in the medication in which the
- 11:35Speaker 2: sheriff said she needs every day that's life threatening. And
- 11:39Speaker 2: Amy said, well, maybe the sheriff can't because of HIPPO
- 11:43Speaker 2: laws which keep medical information private. And I said, I
- 11:48Speaker 2: don't think HIPPO applies to authorities releasing information.
- 11:52Speaker 1: And Ann looked it up and Amy, you.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Are wrong, wrong, wrong, ron gue wrong.
- 12:08Speaker 3: I didn't claim to know for sure. I was surmising.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Okay, now, good word, Okay, Now back to the news.
- 12:17Speaker 2: We have some pretty important stuff to talk about.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Amy.
- 12:19Speaker 3: Yeah. President Trump's borders are Tom Holman is holding a
- 12:23Speaker 3: press conference and it's just announced that seven hundred immigration
- 12:26Speaker 3: officers are going to immediately be leaving Minnesota. He also
- 12:31Speaker 3: said several counties are now cooperating with ICE agents. Holman
- 12:37Speaker 3: went on to say that people who are violent and
- 12:39Speaker 3: attack ICE agents will be prosecuted. He says he wants
- 12:44Speaker 3: to see peace in the streets and implored people to
- 12:46Speaker 3: stop resisting and to just peacefully protest.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Now, have you noticed that the administration did not back
- 12:54Speaker 2: down on their position.
- 12:55Speaker 1: They never do. This administration will never admit that it's wrong.
- 12:59Speaker 2: It's as simply not restating and stating and restating that
- 13:04Speaker 2: the two victims were terrorists, Domestic terrorists were there to
- 13:08Speaker 2: kill as many of ICE agents as possible, and it's
- 13:13Speaker 2: not the agent's fault. Any shooting that occurred is of
- 13:16Speaker 2: course the fault of the protesters who are still agitators.
- 13:22Speaker 2: But he's seven hundred of the troops are going down.
- 13:26Speaker 2: I guess three thousand that have been put there. And
- 13:29Speaker 2: the reason that they're going that they're leaving is because
- 13:33Speaker 2: the local authorities are cooperating now and therefore we don't
- 13:37Speaker 2: need as many ICE agents. Nothing about we're leaving because
- 13:43Speaker 2: there is a lot of political backlash and the people
- 13:46Speaker 2: who have been Innesota we've got some contention. We're trying
- 13:49Speaker 2: to make it as good as we possibly can. It's
- 13:54Speaker 2: are you ever going to hear this administration agree or
- 13:57Speaker 2: admit that it was wrong on any level, on any subject. No,
- 14:02Speaker 2: the answer is absolutely not moving on.
- 14:07Speaker 3: Two hundred million dollars slashed. The Yellow County Board of
- 14:11Speaker 3: Supervisors has approved sweeping cuts to homeless services in the county.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Some advocates say that's going to mean more people on
- 14:21Speaker 3: the streets. County voters approved a sales tax increase in
- 14:26Speaker 3: twenty twenty four to help fight the homelessness crisis, but
- 14:30Speaker 3: city officials say they face more than two hundred and
- 14:32Speaker 3: seventy million dollars in a budget shortfall in trying to
- 14:35Speaker 3: just maintain current homeless services operations, So they're going to
- 14:39Speaker 3: be cutting outreach and navigation programs that help people who
- 14:43Speaker 3: are homeless get into housing. Some forms of rental assistance
- 14:47Speaker 3: are being cut, as well as a program that funds
- 14:50Speaker 3: the acquisition of apartment buildings and to convert them into
- 14:55Speaker 3: former homeless housing.
- 14:57Speaker 2: How many units of housing have action been built or
- 15:02Speaker 2: approved out of the what sixty thousand homeless people in
- 15:07Speaker 2: the county? And I don't want to It's just I
- 15:11Speaker 2: had said this. Any I helped for the homeless population
- 15:16Speaker 2: is going to be incremental. It's just not going to hell. Also,
- 15:20Speaker 2: you'll never get a number of how many homeless there are.
- 15:23Speaker 2: I mean, they don't number one, admit it. How about
- 15:25Speaker 2: the people that are homeless half the time and they're
- 15:28Speaker 2: CouchSurfing or in homeless shelters for a few days. So
- 15:33Speaker 2: it's a snapshot and the next day it may change.
- 15:37Speaker 2: All we know is La County doesn't have any money
- 15:40Speaker 2: and the homeless are getting nailed, which I find surprising
- 15:43Speaker 2: because usually the homeless population or the homeless issue has
- 15:47Speaker 2: been front burner literally for years and years. Gavin Newsom
- 15:53Speaker 2: ran the last time on homelessness, as did Karen Bass,
- 15:58Speaker 2: as did Paul Caruso.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Okay, good news if you have bitcoin.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Maybe not not maybe just not. It's a big bummer
- 16:11Speaker 3: for bitcoin. It hit its lowest level since November of
- 16:15Speaker 3: twenty twenty four. Bitcoin slumped like seven percent yesterday, fell
- 16:22Speaker 3: below seventy three thousand dollars. It's down roughly forty percent
- 16:27Speaker 3: since hitting a record high above one hundred and twenty
- 16:29Speaker 3: six thousand in October.
- 16:32Speaker 2: I've never understood bitcoin when it first came out, and
- 16:35Speaker 2: how many years did it come out?
- 16:36Speaker 1: Twenty years ago?
- 16:38Speaker 2: Twenty you know, two thousand and eight, so that's not
- 16:41Speaker 2: even twenty years ago. And you could buy you could
- 16:44Speaker 2: have bought bitcoin for several for a penny, So if
- 16:52Speaker 2: you had five cents, for example, you would own let's
- 16:56Speaker 2: say at least ten bitcoin or twelve bitcoin. And it
- 17:01Speaker 2: hit over one hundred thousand dollars. That ain't bad for
- 17:04Speaker 2: a penny investment, is it. I don't get bitcoin, never have,
- 17:09Speaker 2: never will. How it all works anyway, and a corrollarily
- 17:14Speaker 2: to that the other side of the coin, if you will, Hey,
- 17:18Speaker 2: that's good is the fact that gold, which of course
- 17:22Speaker 2: uncertainty hits gold blows up almost hit five thousand dollars
- 17:26Speaker 2: an ounce.
- 17:28Speaker 1: What does that tell you? It tells you.
- 17:31Speaker 2: I'm going to keep on doing commercials for leer capital,
- 17:34Speaker 2: is what it tells you. The people that buy, sell,
- 17:38Speaker 2: and hold gold for you and kno, make sure that
- 17:41Speaker 2: they get a bill for this plug.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Okay.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Final moments of freedom. A man charged and convicted of
- 17:49Speaker 3: trying to assassinate Donald Trump when he was running for
- 17:53Speaker 3: president in twenty twenty four is sentenced or scheduled to
- 17:57Speaker 3: be sentenced in Florida to He was convicted last fall
- 18:03Speaker 3: for his attempt on Trump's life when then presidential candidate
- 18:08Speaker 3: Trump was golfing at his club in West Palm Beach.
- 18:12Speaker 3: Prosecutors are asking for a life sentence. His lawyer says
- 18:17Speaker 3: he deserved to taste freedom.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Again, that's interesting, interesting defense argument. I haven't heard that
- 18:25Speaker 2: one very much. This is the guy who was at
- 18:27Speaker 2: the golf course, at the fence, and we had a
- 18:31Speaker 2: clear shot of the t but the FBI saw him,
- 18:34Speaker 2: and he left his backpack, not very sophisticated, and was
- 18:38Speaker 2: picked up.
- 18:39Speaker 1: And he's going to get a lot of years, to
- 18:40Speaker 1: say the least.
- 18:41Speaker 3: So here's my question, legal question, Bill. Of course, he
- 18:45Speaker 3: didn't actually pull a trigger, No attempt was actually made.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Right, Well, pulling a trigger does not change the attempt,
- 18:56Speaker 2: I don't think. Well, I mean shooting at and setting up.
- 18:59Speaker 2: I don't think there's much of a difference. But here
- 19:02Speaker 2: is the basis of my legal reasoning. Here, I have
- 19:06Speaker 2: absolutely no idea which is typical of what happens on
- 19:10Speaker 2: Saturday morning.
- 19:11Speaker 1: But don't mishandle on the law.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Eight to eleven o'clock every Saturday morning Marginal Legal Advice.
- 19:18Speaker 3: Human trafficking targeted authorities in LA have announced the arrests
- 19:24Speaker 3: of more than six hundred suspects and have rescued more
- 19:28Speaker 3: than one hundred seventy suspected drug trafficking victims, sex trafficking
- 19:35Speaker 3: victims lad La County DA Nathan Hoffman says this is
- 19:41Speaker 3: nothing less than modern slavery, and this whole human trafficking
- 19:46Speaker 3: thing is a multi billion dollar industry.
- 19:50Speaker 2: It's also the investigation also is multime multi million dollars.
- 19:54Speaker 2: We don't hear how expensive, how extensive. Not that it's
- 19:57Speaker 2: not worth it, by the way, I want to make
- 19:58Speaker 2: that really clear. But part of the news of these
- 20:02Speaker 2: things is the enormous effort and the expense in the
- 20:05Speaker 2: time and the number of agents that go into this.
- 20:08Speaker 2: It is really expensive stuff. But clearly we have to
- 20:11Speaker 2: do it. We just have to report that part of
- 20:14Speaker 2: the story.
- 20:14Speaker 3: Also, an alternative to Bad Bunny turning point, USA is
- 20:21Speaker 3: holding its own Super Bowl halftime show. Bad Bunny was
- 20:26Speaker 3: announced last fall as the headliner for Super Bowl sixty
- 20:31Speaker 3: and conservatives not happy about it, so they said, we're
- 20:34Speaker 3: going to do one of our own that's more family friendly.
- 20:37Speaker 3: So it was announced on Monday that the lineup would
- 20:42Speaker 3: be kid rock country singers Brentlee Gilbert, and Lee Brice
- 20:46Speaker 3: and then Gabby Barrett, who came in third on season
- 20:50Speaker 3: sixteen of American Idol.
- 20:52Speaker 2: By the way, does anybody have any idea who she
- 20:54Speaker 2: was prior to this announcement? Came in third on American Idol.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Here's a question I want to ask. You have the
- 21:00Speaker 2: super Bowl, then you have this Turning Point us a
- 21:05Speaker 2: concert which is going to get more viewers the this concert,
- 21:10Speaker 2: the Turning Point concert or the Puppy Bowl.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Oh I love the Puppy bul There you are, I'm lineup.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Yeah, line and Brandley Gilbert and Lee Brice. Yeah, it's bad,
- 21:23Speaker 3: but you don't like country music. It's bad. Is so
- 21:27Speaker 3: over come on.
- 21:29Speaker 2: And the reaction has been I mean, it's not even
- 21:32Speaker 2: an outrage or the progressives or liberals or the anti
- 21:36Speaker 2: trumpets and or anti USA or anti USA Turning Point
- 21:41Speaker 2: or is just no one's paying attention, which.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Is probably driving them even more nuts.
- 21:45Speaker 3: Well, we'll have to wait and see, but I don't
- 21:47Speaker 3: think it's going to be a huge response.
- 21:49Speaker 2: No, No, I don't think so. Puppy Bowl do well,
- 21:51Speaker 2: But Puppy bowls before. Oh I thought it was during.
- 21:57Speaker 3: No, I think they don't. They do the Puppy Bowl
- 21:59Speaker 3: before the Super Bowl.
- 22:00Speaker 2: I think they do it right during the Puppy Bowl,
- 22:03Speaker 2: I mean during the Super Bowl. And you're a dog lover, yes, sir, okay,
- 22:09Speaker 2: Puppy Bowl during or before?
- 22:13Speaker 1: U before?
- 22:16Speaker 2: Okay, look it up and we'll see. I'm saying during
- 22:20Speaker 2: and Ann says that it's before, and we'll see that's
- 22:26Speaker 2: before Super Bowl. Okay, then I am well r O
- 22:30Speaker 2: N g U U E yes, okay.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Moving on, uh.
- 22:36Speaker 3: Demolishing Marilyn Monroe. A Brentwood couple you you've heard about
- 22:42Speaker 3: this bought Marilyn Monroe's old house and they wanted to
- 22:46Speaker 3: tear it down and then build their house next door
- 22:53Speaker 3: on make it bigger. And then they got all the permits,
- 22:58Speaker 3: they did everything they were supposed to do, and then
- 22:59Speaker 3: somebody got wind of it and said, hold on, that's
- 23:01Speaker 3: Marilyn Monroe's old home. And so there was a big
- 23:05Speaker 3: outcry and the house has been declared National culturee where
- 23:11Speaker 3: is it? The LA Cultural Heritage Commission made it a landmark.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Yeah, LA landmark.
- 23:18Speaker 2: Yeah, And that just stopped it cold, right, and now
- 23:20Speaker 2: there's argument, yeah, and the argument from the people that
- 23:23Speaker 2: now own it. There isn't an ioda of anything inside
- 23:27Speaker 2: the house that is connected to Marilyn Monroe.
- 23:30Speaker 1: It has bought and sold.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Eight times and there isn't even a piece of wallpaper,
- 23:36Speaker 2: a small piece that is related to Marilyn Monroe. However,
- 23:40Speaker 2: they're missing out at that facade is what is important.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Much like I remember when the White House burnt down
- 23:48Speaker 2: in Anaheim and Bruno had to rebuild. Well, because it
- 23:53Speaker 2: was a landmark building. He had to keep the front
- 23:55Speaker 2: of it exactly as it was because it is also
- 23:59Speaker 2: a protect home. It was built in nineteen ten. Also
- 24:03Speaker 2: a quick side story about Marilyn Monroe.
- 24:05Speaker 1: You know she was buried.
- 24:06Speaker 2: She's buried in a crypt at Hollywood Cemetery, and there
- 24:11Speaker 2: was a man who owned the crypt right above her.
- 24:14Speaker 2: I think he bought it and insisted that he get
- 24:16Speaker 2: buried face down because he wanted to be face down
- 24:20Speaker 2: with Maryland below him face up. And he paid millions
- 24:25Speaker 2: for it, and he died, and that happened. His wife
- 24:30Speaker 2: realized she could get three point eight or four billion dollars,
- 24:33Speaker 2: immediately took him out of there, put him in another
- 24:35Speaker 2: crypt and sold it to someone else.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Maybe it was a someone.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Else who wanted to I guess have death sex with
- 24:44Speaker 2: Marilyn Monroe.
- 24:45Speaker 1: I've had death sex before I was married.
- 24:48Speaker 3: And okayful, careful, big boy, you're married now.
- 24:53Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true. All death sex continues on. Okay, not
- 24:57Speaker 2: a lot of movement, if you know what I mean. Okay, yeah,
- 25:00Speaker 2: you know you got it all right.
- 25:01Speaker 3: Calling on Casey to quit, LA twenty eight Olympics committee
- 25:06Speaker 3: chair Casey Wasserman is facing more and more calls from
- 25:10Speaker 3: officials around LA to resign after that last batch of
- 25:15Speaker 3: Epstein emails was released and he showed up in it.
- 25:20Speaker 3: There were some racy emails exchanged with the convicted sex offender,
- 25:24Speaker 3: Gillaine Maxwell. Supervisor Janice Hahn says having Casey Wasserman represent
- 25:31Speaker 3: us on the world stage distracts focus from our athletes
- 25:34Speaker 3: and the enormous effort needed to prepare for twenty twenty eight.
- 25:39Speaker 2: M Are you disappointed that we haven't actually seen those
- 25:44Speaker 2: techs and you can redact you know, the actual words used,
- 25:49Speaker 2: but still, you know, just because we're newspeople and it's
- 25:54Speaker 2: important that we get that news out, especially these kind
- 25:58Speaker 2: of comments on tech.
- 26:00Speaker 1: And by the way, is he going to survive this?
- 26:02Speaker 1: I don't know. That's pretty rough.
- 26:07Speaker 2: You know, any connection to Jeffrey Epstein is toxic by anybody.
- 26:13Speaker 3: Well, the emails were from twenty years ago. Yeah, that
- 26:16Speaker 3: that doesn't make it any better.
- 26:18Speaker 2: And you know you and the argument is, for example,
- 26:20Speaker 2: someone comes up with, you know, you made a racist
- 26:23Speaker 2: comment that happens a lot in with politicians, and you
- 26:28Speaker 2: say I was in grade school at the time. It
- 26:31Speaker 2: doesn't matter. It shows the way you're thinking. Nothing in context.
- 26:36Speaker 2: There's no such thing as context anymore. And so what
- 26:40Speaker 2: can I tell you? You know, if all the texts
- 26:43Speaker 2: in the world were released, I think a lot of people,
- 26:46Speaker 2: a lot of us, would be hugely embarrassed.
- 26:52Speaker 3: How China is handling handles. China is banning hidden door
- 26:58Speaker 3: handles on cars, all of them sold in China. That
- 27:02Speaker 3: makes them the first country in the world it's going
- 27:04Speaker 3: to do this. The hidden door handles are pretty much
- 27:07Speaker 3: a signature feature on Tesla's The band comes as Elon
- 27:10Speaker 3: Musk's company reports declining world worldwide sales and struggles with
- 27:15Speaker 3: competition in China, which has evs of its own. The
- 27:19Speaker 3: Ministry of Information and Technology cited the inconvenience with operating
- 27:23Speaker 3: the exterior door handles. We just experienced this over the weekend,
- 27:27Speaker 3: and also their inability to open after an accident as
- 27:31Speaker 3: a reason for the band.
- 27:33Speaker 2: That is a big safety issue because if there isn't
- 27:37Speaker 2: power and it's all cut off.
- 27:38Speaker 1: Now there's a manual way of.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Doing it, but still it can be very dangerous. Also
- 27:43Speaker 2: it's very entertaining as you see people taking their finger
- 27:46Speaker 2: and poking the entire door looking for the handle.
- 27:49Speaker 3: Oh yeah, we drove last weekend and Amy could not
- 27:52Speaker 3: get into Luis's tesla. She was like, how do you
- 27:55Speaker 3: open this door? It was kind of funny.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's particularly funny when there's a fire inside
- 28:01Speaker 2: you're trying to get someone out. Yeah, that's when it's hilarious.
- 28:06Speaker 3: A real life superhero, as Dori would say, just keep swimming,
- 28:12Speaker 3: keep on swimming. Off the Australian coast, a thirteen year
- 28:15Speaker 3: old boy swam for like four hours and two and
- 28:20Speaker 3: a half miles back to shore. The family was from Perth.
- 28:25Speaker 3: They were on vacation and out paddling around using kayaks
- 28:29Speaker 3: and paddle boards that they got from their hotel and
- 28:33Speaker 3: then the oceans got rough and the winds came along
- 28:37Speaker 3: and swept them out to sea. So the thirteen year
- 28:40Speaker 3: old swam back to the shore and basically saved his
- 28:45Speaker 3: mom Joanne, who's forty seven, his brother Bo who's twelve,
- 28:49Speaker 3: and his eight year old sister Grace. He got back
- 28:51Speaker 3: and alerted authorities. They went out and got him.
- 28:54Speaker 1: Factoid. What is Perth famous for?
- 28:57Speaker 2: This relatively small city on the northeast side of northwest
- 29:03Speaker 2: side of Australia. When John Glenn was doing the first
- 29:07Speaker 2: orbitable flight of an American the people in Perth they
- 29:11Speaker 2: was going to go right over Perth. The people in
- 29:13Speaker 2: Perth turned all their lights on and he could see it,
- 29:17Speaker 2: and he mentioned, thank you very much to the people
- 29:20Speaker 2: of Perth. That's in case you already asked that on
- 29:22Speaker 2: Jeopardy you'll know, very cool. Yeah, it is cool. You
- 29:25Speaker 2: can look that up.
- 29:27Speaker 3: Jill's murderous X. This is a weird story. The ex
- 29:31Speaker 3: husband a former First Lady Jill Biden, has been arrested
- 29:36Speaker 3: and charged with first degree murder in the killing of
- 29:40Speaker 3: his wife. This happened in Delaware. William Stevenson is seventy seven.
- 29:47Speaker 3: His wife, Linda was sixty four. She was actually found
- 29:52Speaker 3: dead on December twenty eighth. They did a bunch of
- 29:55Speaker 3: investigations and then he was indicted earlier this week. Stevenson
- 30:02Speaker 3: was married to Jill Biden in the seventies. They were
- 30:04Speaker 3: married for about five years.
- 30:06Speaker 2: Weird story, isn't it And the first actual Donald Trump
- 30:10Speaker 2: story of the news and probably the last one in.
- 30:13Speaker 1: The news hour.
- 30:15Speaker 3: Donald Trump has doubled down. He's still attacking Harvard and
- 30:20Speaker 3: demanding the Ivy League school pay a billion dollar settlement
- 30:24Speaker 3: to restore federal funding after months have failed negotiations. Some
- 30:29Speaker 3: of the schools have negotiated and Trump said, okay, you
- 30:32Speaker 3: can have your funding, but Harvard is not one of them.
- 30:36Speaker 2: Yeah, they're standing firm on all the demands that the
- 30:39Speaker 2: President is making of them.
- 30:41Speaker 1: And by the way, he used.
- 30:41Speaker 2: To be five hundred million dollars and now he upped it.
- 30:45Speaker 2: He literally doubled down on this and he's and a
- 30:48Speaker 2: lot of this, I mean a lot of these schools
- 30:51Speaker 2: have gone to court and have won because this is
- 30:53Speaker 2: money that Congress has already appropriated for the most part
- 30:57Speaker 2: of federal funding that's going on that's not being given.
- 31:00Speaker 1: To the schools.
- 31:02Speaker 2: So hey, can I tell you get on the wrong
- 31:06Speaker 2: side of Donald Trump. You're kind of screwed in the
- 31:09Speaker 2: story about Pexico pledging to cut price on snacks, which
- 31:14Speaker 2: Amy already did. Okay, guys, we're done with the news.
- 31:17Speaker 2: This is KFI Am six.
- 31:20Speaker 1: You've been listening to the Bill Handle Show.
- 31:22Speaker 2: Catch my show Monday through Friday, six am to nine am,
- 31:26Speaker 2: and anytime on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
