- 1:42Speaker 1: and your host Chip Howard. The Writer's Round Table is
- 1:46Speaker 1: brought to you by Intech and First Financial Bank.
- 1:50Speaker 8: Hey, great to have everybody here. Robert Sessen is here.
- 1:54Speaker 8: Alex Miller fill again for Rusty. I said before you
- 1:57Speaker 8: got here, Alex, Rusty actually went to Arlington last night
- 2:01Speaker 8: to watch that mess of a game, and I think
- 2:05Speaker 8: he needed an extra day to recover.
- 2:06Speaker 5: That's why he's not. Oh my gosh, that was probably
- 2:11Speaker 5: the worst game that wouldn't end.
- 2:12Speaker 9: It was the worst forty seconds to end the game
- 2:15Speaker 9: that am could have possibly drawn up they had it
- 2:17Speaker 9: right in the bag and they.
- 2:18Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, I mean it was the game was over
- 2:25Speaker 8: pretty much.
- 2:25Speaker 9: It was tough and Stinkstra and M because the thing
- 2:30Speaker 9: of the hole they dug themselves out of to get
- 2:32Speaker 9: in that position. That would have been a great win. Yeah,
- 2:34Speaker 9: that probably would have been the biggest feather in the
- 2:36Speaker 9: cap this season. And and that's that. That's probably gonna
- 2:40Speaker 9: to be in a quad one game. And look, Adam's
- 2:42Speaker 9: gonna have opportunities out the wazoo and SEC played for
- 2:45Speaker 9: quad one wins. But when you look at that NCAA tournament, right,
- 2:49Speaker 9: you need a you need a good non conference win
- 2:51Speaker 9: on there to to.
- 2:53Speaker 5: Show the committs.
- 2:54Speaker 8: The first thing I thought of is, man, this is
- 2:56Speaker 8: the kind of game that could keep you out, you know,
- 2:58Speaker 8: if it comes down to first four and that kind
- 3:01Speaker 8: of stuff.
- 3:02Speaker 5: But we got a long way to go until the
- 3:03Speaker 5: long way to get a long way to go.
- 3:05Speaker 7: I was thinking an I, but that's a.
- 3:07Speaker 9: Hey, how about that. The first thing we talked about
- 3:09Speaker 9: is basketball. When A and M's playing in the college
- 3:11Speaker 9: football playoff, Well, this.
- 3:12Speaker 8: Is the basketball community. I like to cater to the
- 3:14Speaker 8: basketball This is.
- 3:15Speaker 7: An equestrian you know, kind of you know, community along
- 3:18Speaker 7: with basketball.
- 3:21Speaker 8: So A and I'm being a seventh seed is kind
- 3:26Speaker 8: of weird. By all metrics, you would think that A
- 3:30Speaker 8: and M would be ahead of Oregon and ahead of
- 3:32Speaker 8: Old miss if you compare you know, everything, But apparently
- 3:37Speaker 8: the committee doesn't do that, and ESPN doesn't allow them
- 3:41Speaker 8: to do that, so they can get the bracket that
- 3:43Speaker 8: they want to have. So this is what you have
- 3:47Speaker 8: and you have a really really talented football team coming here.
- 3:52Speaker 7: Yeah, first of all, when they say strength to schedule
- 3:55Speaker 7: all these things that go, who determines that? I mean
- 3:58Speaker 7: a little bit. I don't know any problem with metrics.
- 4:01Speaker 7: I like computers. I think the College Football Committee couldn't
- 4:05Speaker 7: have screwed it up any worse. In the fact is
- 4:08Speaker 7: they had notre Dame ahead of Miami the whole time,
- 4:11Speaker 7: the whole time. And then oh hey, by the way,
- 4:13Speaker 7: you actually weren't that good after all.
- 4:16Speaker 10: I showed. I saw I like that. We watched the tape.
- 4:19Speaker 10: Oh my god, Miami, Miami law. It's a novel approach.
- 4:23Speaker 10: We watched the tape and I'm thinking, like, are you serious?
- 4:28Speaker 7: I mean, you come out and admit you're that stupid
- 4:31Speaker 7: and but that just shows you, you know, you really
- 4:34Speaker 7: can't mess up college football. Well you've seen so much it's.
- 4:37Speaker 8: So good, you cannot You're right, you can't kill college football.
- 4:40Speaker 5: It's it's too popular.
- 4:42Speaker 7: It's it's like it doesn't matter what you have. I mean,
- 4:45Speaker 7: it's like, and I guess that's a good bad I've
- 4:48Speaker 7: till somebody asked me today at the press cards. I said,
- 4:51Speaker 7: you know what, it's like McDonald's French fries. It don't
- 4:53Speaker 7: matter what McDonald's screws up or who works, they're not
- 4:56Speaker 7: going to mess their French fries up. I don't want
- 4:57Speaker 7: anything else if McDonald's, but they're French fries. And getting
- 5:01Speaker 7: back to what you see, I mean, unfortunately, man, you
- 5:04Speaker 7: talk about the difference between a sixth seed and a
- 5:06Speaker 7: seventh seed Julane come into town or Miami, Oh, let
- 5:09Speaker 7: me think about that one, you know, or James Madison
- 5:13Speaker 7: or James Madison, well anywhere. Anyway. It's a ten team
- 5:17Speaker 7: playoff and A and M is starting off right against
- 5:20Speaker 7: somebody that might be this year. And we talked about
- 5:24Speaker 7: this chip on the show before. If any of those
- 5:27Speaker 7: ten teams would would win the national championship, winsurprise.
- 5:31Speaker 8: And Miami may be as talented as any of the
- 5:35Speaker 8: ten teams in the playoffs.
- 5:36Speaker 7: But they also have the number ten ranked coach.
- 5:39Speaker 5: And that's what you're banking on.
- 5:40Speaker 9: Well, the two things on Miami. They've been playing a
- 5:44Speaker 9: lot better in the last month. They looked terrible against
- 5:47Speaker 9: SMU and they looked terrible against Louisville season. I actually
- 5:50Speaker 9: watched that game. That was a Friday night game. We
- 5:52Speaker 9: were where were we Arkansas?
- 5:53Speaker 7: I had Chicken put pye at that place A good place.
- 5:55Speaker 7: We need to go back there.
- 5:56Speaker 4: That place was good. That place was good.
- 6:00Speaker 9: They looked they did not look good in October. They
- 6:03Speaker 9: did not look good in October. They're playing a lot better.
- 6:05Speaker 9: They beat the breaks off pit to in the regular season, right,
- 6:09Speaker 9: But yes, Krystal Ball has done some head scratching things
- 6:12Speaker 9: at times. You think about that Georgia Tech game last
- 6:14Speaker 9: year when they when they gave that away, Yeah, and
- 6:20Speaker 9: a'em at home.
- 6:21Speaker 4: You got to like that. Miami is hoping they.
- 6:24Speaker 9: Get a few guys back, particularly the nickel Keyante Scott
- 6:28Speaker 9: who's been who was having a fantastic season before he
- 6:31Speaker 9: got that foot injury against n C State. But Aam's
- 6:35Speaker 9: also in the mix to get some guys back. They're
- 6:38Speaker 9: doing great, They're Greatoby Williams.
- 6:42Speaker 7: Okay, but Am is not played well the last three games,
- 6:45Speaker 7: that's true. They didn't play well for a half against
- 6:48Speaker 7: uh was a team South Carolina. They didn't play well
- 6:51Speaker 7: for the second half against Texas. And suddenly you look
- 6:54Speaker 7: at that and can you just block that out and
- 6:57Speaker 7: move on? Because off Caline game was here and could
- 7:02Speaker 7: Adien get get hot and win for a game? Sure?
- 7:05Speaker 7: Could they lose this game by even two scores? Yeah,
- 7:09Speaker 7: because Miami is that talented and Beck's hot and cold.
- 7:14Speaker 7: I mean I've seen him where he could throw a
- 7:17Speaker 7: ball maybe through a car wash and not get a
- 7:20Speaker 7: drops on it. He's that good at placement. But then
- 7:22Speaker 7: I saw see him miss a guy by, like oh yeah.
- 7:26Speaker 7: The Louisville game, he threw one interception after another. We
- 7:30Speaker 7: were watching that like is he color blind? You know
- 7:34Speaker 7: if you bet on that game? So who's gonna show?
- 7:36Speaker 7: And let's I looked at the numbers and all I say,
- 7:39Speaker 7: numbers don't lie. They're gonna stop the running game. They're
- 7:43Speaker 7: so good on the defensive line, and that's scary the
- 7:46Speaker 7: way Reid's had happy feet the last few games. I think.
- 7:51Speaker 9: Yeah, Tech Texas had a great game plan against A
- 7:54Speaker 9: and M. They dropped seven eight into coverage, made Reid
- 7:56Speaker 9: beat him with the arm, and Marcel just didn't deliver.
- 7:59Speaker 9: Let's be honest, he didn't have it that night. And
- 8:03Speaker 9: even late when they had a chance they were going
- 8:05Speaker 9: down the field, just two arrant throws and that's all
- 8:08Speaker 9: it took for A and M's comeback bid to go
- 8:11Speaker 9: right out the door.
- 8:12Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:12Speaker 8: And when you get here, with the caliber of teams
- 8:17Speaker 8: you're going to see, there's just normally, from week to
- 8:22Speaker 8: week in this sport, we talk about it every week,
- 8:26Speaker 8: there's such a small little window, right of winning versus losing.
- 8:33Speaker 5: And when you get to these.
- 8:34Speaker 8: Kind of teams with that kind of talent, you don't
- 8:37Speaker 8: want to open that window. You don't want to give
- 8:40Speaker 8: that team that opportunity, right, whether it's a block pot,
- 8:45Speaker 8: a miss twenty yard field goal, which we saw at
- 8:47Speaker 8: the Big Ten Championship, you can't do it.
- 8:51Speaker 7: Here's the deal is. I think about a lot of
- 8:54Speaker 7: you'll like Dan Lanning in Oregon and I did too.
- 8:57Speaker 7: I've seen a couple of games that he does coaching moves.
- 9:00Speaker 7: I scratched my head great. And what I'm getting back
- 9:03Speaker 7: to is you're gonna have a lot of first time
- 9:06Speaker 7: college football Playoff coaches. Mike Elko is going to be
- 9:09Speaker 7: one uh mis old miss cut the defensive coordinator made, yeah,
- 9:15Speaker 7: making these million dollar decisions. And as good as Sety
- 9:18Speaker 7: has been, you know what I mean, it's like this
- 9:20Speaker 7: is what his second time, and so I think he
- 9:22Speaker 7: has advantage of that these people that have coached in
- 9:25Speaker 7: the College Football Playoff and Elko has proven he's he's
- 9:29Speaker 7: a great coach, But what about he turns arounds? He's
- 9:31Speaker 7: one hundred and ten thousand people and they expect you
- 9:34Speaker 7: win this game.
- 9:35Speaker 8: You know, Seas, it's not just the coaches. I think
- 9:38Speaker 8: it's just as much or more the players. And by
- 9:42Speaker 8: that I mean, you know, Ohio State, They're not gonna
- 9:45Speaker 8: see anything they haven't been through. Alabama's not gonna see
- 9:48Speaker 8: anything they haven't been through.
- 9:50Speaker 5: Right, Oregon has been there.
- 9:53Speaker 8: You look at the teams that have been there, right,
- 9:56Speaker 8: and you don't know how that teams that haven't are
- 10:02Speaker 8: gonna respond because it's a whole different ballgame.
- 10:05Speaker 5: It's totally different.
- 10:07Speaker 11: Now.
- 10:07Speaker 7: I'm glad you brought that up because you go back
- 10:09Speaker 7: and listen to the tape last week when after the
- 10:12Speaker 7: Texas game's about how Elka said he was a little
- 10:15Speaker 7: disappointed at all. That's why his team just didn't handle
- 10:19Speaker 7: he said, did the environment environment? And I was kind
- 10:21Speaker 7: of shocked by that because you think, oh, you're your rival,
- 10:25Speaker 7: You're going down to Austin. Everybody's talked about this rival
- 10:28Speaker 7: even though it hasn't been around. But they didn't handle
- 10:30Speaker 7: that well. And for him to say that, I thought
- 10:32Speaker 7: that was a little bit telling. When you say it's
- 10:36Speaker 7: not just the coaches, sain'st even the assistant coaches if
- 10:38Speaker 7: they've never been in this. And then suddenly when you
- 10:41Speaker 7: see how, let's be honest, though High State game came
- 10:44Speaker 7: down to a field goal, does they ain't ever want
- 10:45Speaker 7: their game to come down to a field goal? Well?
- 10:47Speaker 9: And I get the Texas fans credit. You know, you
- 10:49Speaker 9: hear stories about it's the wine and cheese crowd. They
- 10:53Speaker 9: only get loud for like two plays.
- 10:55Speaker 4: A game, YadA YadA.
- 10:56Speaker 9: No, that place was locked in and amped up the
- 10:59Speaker 9: whole time. I mean it's a it's a closed press box,
- 11:03Speaker 9: and you could in a lot of ways it felt
- 11:05Speaker 9: like we were at Kyle Field when when AM's fans
- 11:08Speaker 9: have been at their best. I was thoroughly impressed with
- 11:10Speaker 9: the energy that the Texas fans brought.
- 11:13Speaker 4: And yeah, AM didn't handle it well and it was
- 11:15Speaker 4: definitely a factory.
- 11:15Speaker 7: But the good news is, yeah, the flip side of that,
- 11:18Speaker 7: they're here, they're here.
- 11:19Speaker 5: Oh yeah, they're here.
- 11:20Speaker 12: And Kyle Field will be And I would argue Miami
- 11:25Speaker 12: hadn't played and that kind of environment since Notre Dame
- 11:29Speaker 12: and it still wasn't that environment, right, I mean it's Miami.
- 11:33Speaker 9: They might not have played in that environment since they
- 11:35Speaker 9: played here at Cayle Field in twenty two.
- 11:37Speaker 8: Correct, correct? And I don't remember, you know, I'd have
- 11:40Speaker 8: to go back, but they they haven't seen that environment either.
- 11:44Speaker 8: And A and M said a huge advantage because of that.
- 11:48Speaker 7: I agree. I agree, And it's it's like you need
- 11:50Speaker 7: to use that because, let's be honest, when this game,
- 11:54Speaker 7: you're in the top eight and then you get a
- 11:56Speaker 7: little confidence, you get a little momentum gone, and you
- 11:59Speaker 7: talk about it too. At least get people healthy, uh,
- 12:02Speaker 7: Because I think it's a great advantage for those four
- 12:05Speaker 7: teams that got to buy because they are so good,
- 12:08Speaker 7: and you know they're gonna get a little more healthy.
- 12:10Speaker 8: Except for last year, none of that worked out and win.
- 12:13Speaker 7: But I think a little bit of seating you did
- 12:15Speaker 7: about that last year, well it wasn't there.
- 12:17Speaker 5: There were there were several teams in the.
- 12:19Speaker 4: Seating was So you're right, and.
- 12:22Speaker 9: It'll be a good it'll be a good interesting thing
- 12:24Speaker 9: to compare last year to this year in that regard
- 12:27Speaker 9: to see if doing the true seating really has an impact,
- 12:30Speaker 9: which I think it really will.
- 12:32Speaker 7: Yeah, because let's be honest, Uh, it's wide opened this year.
- 12:35Speaker 7: So these teams that you know got the buy, like
- 12:38Speaker 7: Ohio State, uh playing A and M. That's not like
- 12:42Speaker 7: they're playing somebody from you know, your skid by last year.
- 12:45Speaker 8: Ye.
- 12:46Speaker 9: See every projection that i've read today just initial bracket
- 12:50Speaker 9: filling out right, Like every single person i've read has Indiana,
- 12:54Speaker 9: Ohio State, and Georgia all winning their quarterfinal games, not
- 12:57Speaker 9: a single.
- 12:58Speaker 4: One of them losing upset.
- 13:00Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 13:00Speaker 9: So and I mean understandably, so Indiana clearcut number one.
- 13:06Speaker 9: I don't think anybody wants to play Georgia right now.
- 13:08Speaker 9: Ohio States are defending national champions, so.
- 13:11Speaker 7: Well, I think you're right if those three uh, none
- 13:14Speaker 7: of us would be shocked if they lose. But I
- 13:17Speaker 7: think they've established themselves that these three teams are going
- 13:20Speaker 7: to be a little tough to.
- 13:21Speaker 5: Be you know.
- 13:22Speaker 8: Uh, India Indiana really impressed me Saturday night. You know,
- 13:26Speaker 8: they really impressed me, especially defensively.
- 13:29Speaker 5: I'm with you, especially the front, right.
- 13:33Speaker 8: I thought that front defensively was just outstanding. The way
- 13:37Speaker 8: they they're not and they're not beaten around a little
- 13:40Speaker 8: a little poor neighbor. They're beaten around a really good
- 13:43Speaker 8: front offensive line.
- 13:44Speaker 7: I love the way their line of screamage and the
- 13:46Speaker 7: way they attacked the ball. I mean they didn't sit
- 13:48Speaker 7: back and they got to the ball and I go, dang.
- 13:51Speaker 8: You know, they said, hey, we're going to run the
- 13:53Speaker 8: ball against you guys, right, and we're going to be physical.
- 13:57Speaker 5: And and that impressed me.
- 13:58Speaker 8: That that because Ohio Stay all year long, in my
- 14:02Speaker 8: mind was the best team, right, they were clearly the
- 14:04Speaker 8: best team.
- 14:05Speaker 13: Uh.
- 14:06Speaker 8: And now after watching Indiana, I'm going, okay, and the
- 14:09Speaker 8: other thing, Man, that's a well coached team. I just
- 14:12Speaker 8: kept thinking to myself, this team they just don't make.
- 14:16Speaker 8: You don't see a lot of those stupid mistakes. A
- 14:19Speaker 8: lot of State made a couple of them, and I'm
- 14:22Speaker 8: not gonna say they won't, but man, I was just
- 14:25Speaker 8: so impressed with how well that team's coach.
- 14:27Speaker 7: And when Indiana lost their receiver, he's probably gone mad.
- 14:33Speaker 7: Top three team All American. I go, Indiana's in trouble. No, no,
- 14:37Speaker 7: such the same thing, because I hadn't seen their defense enough,
- 14:39Speaker 7: and I go, man, I was so impressed with their defense,
- 14:42Speaker 7: and I go, Ohio State is two NFL wide receivers
- 14:46Speaker 7: and they got quarterback and they had trouble moving the
- 14:49Speaker 7: ball because Indiana would make them have negative plays because
- 14:53Speaker 7: they had so much talent and were well coached.
- 14:57Speaker 4: Some in the water about guys in western pennsylvani you see.
- 15:00Speaker 7: I'm with you. I'm with you because you know, like
- 15:03Speaker 7: I said off the air, I mean, his dad was
- 15:05Speaker 7: a big coach at iup where it's a small teacher
- 15:09Speaker 7: school in Pennsylvania, and that came from that family, Penn
- 15:12Speaker 7: State guy, and you could tell the moment wasn't too big,
- 15:15Speaker 7: no way. I mean what he's done in Indiana. For
- 15:18Speaker 7: Urban Meyer to say that's one of the best coaching
- 15:21Speaker 7: jobs of all time, it's like Bill Snyder.
- 15:23Speaker 8: Like, you know what when they mentioned that Saturday night,
- 15:26Speaker 8: I don't think you know somebody and it's always about today. Well,
- 15:31Speaker 8: this is the best effort, you know, best ever And
- 15:34Speaker 8: that's who I thought about. Seaside was going in and
- 15:37Speaker 8: the programs were equivalent, right, Kansas State and Indiana were
- 15:41Speaker 8: equivalent football programs, and Bill Snyder never quite got there
- 15:46Speaker 8: a and m probably was you know the reason why.
- 15:51Speaker 8: But what he did this is very similar. And you know,
- 15:57Speaker 8: you can compare the two. But what is this guy
- 16:00Speaker 8: now twenty three and two or something in two years?
- 16:03Speaker 7: That's amazing. He did Bloomington, Indiana. Who loves it in Bloomington, Indiana,
- 16:08Speaker 7: And he looks above him and he sees Michigan, Ohio
- 16:10Speaker 7: State into the He's surrounded Penn State, and he's surrounded
- 16:14Speaker 7: by programs that say you're not gonna win.
- 16:16Speaker 8: Look, and I said this earlier, I don't think Oregon
- 16:19Speaker 8: is quite as good as they were a year ago.
- 16:22Speaker 8: But when they went into Oregon, which is one of
- 16:25Speaker 8: the toughest places in America to play with a really
- 16:29Speaker 8: good team at home, and did what they did, that
- 16:33Speaker 8: got my attention because I thought that was one of
- 16:35Speaker 8: the best wins.
- 16:36Speaker 5: I thought Alabama going to Georgia.
- 16:38Speaker 8: You know was was was a huge win A and
- 16:41Speaker 8: IM going to Notre Dame was ended up being a
- 16:44Speaker 8: huge win. And when Indiana went to Oregon and won
- 16:47Speaker 8: that game, I went, Okay, we're gonna have to pay attention.
- 16:49Speaker 4: You got you gotta love Mendoza too.
- 16:51Speaker 9: I mean the postgame interview, Yeah, it was kind of dorky.
- 16:54Speaker 8: H I love it.
- 16:54Speaker 9: I mean, I like guy's voices cracking. He's about to
- 16:58Speaker 9: start crying, he says, flipping, like.
- 17:01Speaker 7: Yeah, well, just what I love about this college football playoff.
- 17:06Speaker 7: And now more I think about it with they and
- 17:08Speaker 7: him playing eleven to get to watch a couple at
- 17:09Speaker 7: least the last game, if not both games. And I
- 17:12Speaker 7: was looking forward to Saturday because I wasn't working, and uh,
- 17:15Speaker 7: the Indiana Ohio State game with my wife, and I
- 17:18Speaker 7: just love watching a game because it was so competitive,
- 17:20Speaker 7: so so fiscal everything right on every play. And then
- 17:24Speaker 7: just to watch what you alluded to, just Georgia just
- 17:27Speaker 7: manhandle Alabama. And I knew Georgia was coming on, and
- 17:30Speaker 7: I go, man, you do not want to play Georgia
- 17:32Speaker 7: because right now.
- 17:33Speaker 5: And no one wants to see them, and then you.
- 17:35Speaker 7: Think Kirby smart because then now he's figured out the
- 17:37Speaker 7: difference between clapping and a timeout. I mean, you don't
- 17:40Speaker 7: want to play that guy because there and he was
- 17:43Speaker 7: missing a center. They were missing a couple of people.
- 17:45Speaker 7: And once again, this is the time of the year
- 17:47Speaker 7: where the teams that are missing a couple of people
- 17:50Speaker 7: that don't miss a beat. Like I said, Indiana loses
- 17:53Speaker 7: their best their stud receiver like three or four plays
- 17:56Speaker 7: in it and it doesn't matter. Uh, that's what it's about.
- 17:59Speaker 7: But I'm looking forward to because anyone of those ten
- 18:03Speaker 7: teams and I'll be quite aweso. I'm probably gonna knock
- 18:06Speaker 7: all miss out because a new coach is not got
- 18:09Speaker 7: This is not basketball.
- 18:10Speaker 8: I don't think Oklahoma could do it. I don't think
- 18:12Speaker 8: they have their offense.
- 18:12Speaker 7: They can't play four defensive games like that. They probably
- 18:15Speaker 7: play two, but they can. Yeah, they're really good at home,
- 18:20Speaker 7: by the way.
- 18:20Speaker 9: Well, and it'll be interesting to see what Alabama does
- 18:23Speaker 9: because hey, they lost to Oklahoma. Be Crimson tied after
- 18:28Speaker 9: a loss. That is not a team you want to play.
- 18:30Speaker 9: They're typically pretty good coming off the loss. And three,
- 18:33Speaker 9: you know, one of their key sticking points of why
- 18:34Speaker 9: they didn't play so well in Atlanta's because they were
- 18:36Speaker 9: missing all those guys that they're expecting to get back
- 18:38Speaker 9: in this first round.
- 18:39Speaker 5: So well, they need them back because they do. They
- 18:42Speaker 5: have not.
- 18:43Speaker 8: I don't think ty Simpson has played Greg the last
- 18:47Speaker 8: part of the season. You know, about halfway through, I'm
- 18:50Speaker 8: glad this guy may be the Heisman winner.
- 18:52Speaker 7: You're right, he looked good. This guy, he was awesome.
- 18:55Speaker 7: Said he's gonna get better, but he didn't.
- 18:57Speaker 9: He didn't minus three rushing yards. They need Miller back
- 19:00Speaker 9: so bad.
- 19:01Speaker 8: Yeah, the minus three rushing yards is its course, run
- 19:04Speaker 8: the ball all year.
- 19:05Speaker 7: You know they run.
- 19:06Speaker 5: They have not run the ball all year.
- 19:08Speaker 8: That's one of the things when I put Ryan Day
- 19:11Speaker 8: on last hours, like, hey, we don't run the football.
- 19:13Speaker 8: You know, our balance was off. We couldn't well, they
- 19:16Speaker 8: couldn't run the football.
- 19:18Speaker 4: You know.
- 19:18Speaker 8: Again, going back to that defensive front that that Indiana has,
- 19:22Speaker 8: you're going to stop the run, right and and A
- 19:26Speaker 8: and MS needs to do that as well. A week
- 19:29Speaker 8: from Saturday.
- 19:29Speaker 7: I don't care who you are, second and nine, you're
- 19:32Speaker 7: in trouble in these days because people will apply pressure,
- 19:34Speaker 7: they'll try to make it third and thirteen. Yeah, and
- 19:37Speaker 7: Miami has kind of defense can do that. A and
- 19:39Speaker 7: MS kind of defenses can do that. And you've got
- 19:41Speaker 7: to because people today it's it's all about pressure and.
- 19:45Speaker 9: A and m has feasted off of second and nine,
- 19:48Speaker 9: third and seven and longer. I mean, Elko has talked
- 19:50Speaker 9: about it all along. Right, they went on first and
- 19:52Speaker 9: second down. That has allowed them to be so good
- 19:55Speaker 9: on that third down.
- 19:56Speaker 7: But there's so much tape out there and everybody, and
- 19:58Speaker 7: that's what you see. That's why I thought the going in,
- 20:02Speaker 7: I thought the Indiana High Stak gave me a little
- 20:04Speaker 7: more high score.
- 20:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:05Speaker 7: I watched the quarterbacks and I got all the let
- 20:08Speaker 7: me see who's going to be the best Heisman.
- 20:10Speaker 5: That's what I was doing. See, that's why I watched
- 20:12Speaker 5: that game.
- 20:13Speaker 4: That's exactly why I watched that game.
- 20:15Speaker 8: It's like one of these quarterbacks probably going to win
- 20:19Speaker 8: the Heisman tonight, right, and they didn't. And it's not
- 20:22Speaker 8: saying no, well no, I mean you know, and and
- 20:26Speaker 8: and Benduzu was fine.
- 20:27Speaker 5: I don't want to take anything away from his effort.
- 20:29Speaker 8: I mean, he he he threw some terrific passes and
- 20:32Speaker 8: especially some clutch passes at clutch times, which is what
- 20:35Speaker 8: you want. So he definitely earned my respect because I
- 20:40Speaker 8: don't think i'd sat down and watched a full Indiana
- 20:43Speaker 8: game all year. I had, I've seen partials, I've seen highlights,
- 20:46Speaker 8: but I hadn't seen the full. I saw the drive
- 20:48Speaker 8: against Penn State. State was pretty impressive, right, Uh, that
- 20:52Speaker 8: was one of his Heisman moments.
- 20:54Speaker 7: Uh, played well, Oregan, So he's played. He's played well
- 20:56Speaker 7: a few.
- 20:57Speaker 9: Times, and you got to get the guy credit, right, Like,
- 20:59Speaker 9: even if it hasn't been pretty, he delivers the touchdown pass,
- 21:03Speaker 9: he delivers the completion down the field to get the
- 21:06Speaker 9: first down. Yeah, they had to scramble and beat Penn State,
- 21:10Speaker 9: but they rallied.
- 21:11Speaker 4: And won the game. Like at the end of the day.
- 21:13Speaker 9: Correct, he did enough to win the game for them
- 21:16Speaker 9: even when he wasn't playing at his best.
- 21:18Speaker 4: You gotta give tip tip of the cap for that.
- 21:20Speaker 7: I'm just getting back to college football, just so much
- 21:23Speaker 7: to offer, so exciting right now, so many storylines.
- 21:27Speaker 8: You know, I'm looking at the top four seeds and
- 21:30Speaker 8: I'm looking at the quarterbacks of the top four seeded teams,
- 21:35Speaker 8: and of those, the one I trust the most right
- 21:39Speaker 8: now is Mendoza At Indiana, Gunner Stockton has been mostly efficient,
- 21:46Speaker 8: but he can be a little erratic, saying has been
- 21:50Speaker 8: great all year, like eighty percent of it.
- 21:52Speaker 5: I mean, who does that, right?
- 21:54Speaker 4: That's when you have Jeremiah Smith on your team too.
- 21:56Speaker 5: Card gets a lot.
- 22:00Speaker 7: Oh my gosh, you know.
- 22:01Speaker 8: And and I watched uh and again, I've watched Texas
- 22:04Speaker 8: Tech quite a bit this year, but I watched the
- 22:07Speaker 8: full game Saturday, and Baron Morton looked like arch manning
- 22:12Speaker 8: his first four games this season. He's all over the field.
- 22:15Speaker 8: He's so inconsistent. I'm thinking, you put any of these
- 22:19Speaker 8: other three quarterbacks on that team, they're going to be
- 22:22Speaker 8: by b Yu by sixty.
- 22:24Speaker 9: That Tech was really fortunate that Bachmeyer decided he was
- 22:27Speaker 9: just going to start throwing to their defenders instead of
- 22:29Speaker 9: his receivers. Yeah, yeah, because when Tech got the ball,
- 22:33Speaker 9: they were just kicking field goals, and they were lucky that.
- 22:35Speaker 5: They were the first time they played Byu by the way, right.
- 22:39Speaker 9: Tech was lucky that they were in field goal range
- 22:41Speaker 9: so many times that that really helped them get going.
- 22:43Speaker 4: And then you know, b y U's it just spiraled
- 22:46Speaker 4: out of control.
- 22:47Speaker 8: And I have not been impressed with with Morton all
- 22:50Speaker 8: your Now He's had injuries, you know, and they said
- 22:53Speaker 8: this the week of practice leading up to that game
- 22:57Speaker 8: was maybe the healthiest is he's been all year.
- 23:00Speaker 5: And so again he will have.
- 23:02Speaker 8: Time whatever and I don't even remember, but he will
- 23:07Speaker 8: have time to be healthy. The man, if they want
- 23:10Speaker 8: to win a couple of games, he's going to have
- 23:12Speaker 8: to be a lot more consistent.
- 23:13Speaker 7: But good observation, chip On, I feel watch. I watched
- 23:18Speaker 7: that whole game as well, and that's the first time
- 23:20Speaker 7: I saw a tech for a whole game and with
- 23:22Speaker 7: him and uh Stockton, I agree with you one. But
- 23:27Speaker 7: they're also on a team where they don't have to
- 23:30Speaker 7: be the fifth best player, true, because those that team
- 23:32Speaker 7: is so those teams are so low elsewhere. True that
- 23:36Speaker 7: they can run the ball. They got a great offensive
- 23:38Speaker 7: line I'm talking about Ted now on great.
- 23:40Speaker 8: Defense, and a coach that's smart enough to know that
- 23:42Speaker 8: coach it makes to run the.
- 23:44Speaker 7: Football, calls the plays to suit his quarterback. Since once
- 23:48Speaker 7: again with Kirby Smart, so you're saying, like last year
- 23:51Speaker 7: Kirby Smart basically did the same thing he got there
- 23:53Speaker 7: with his quarterback was not his best player, but he
- 23:56Speaker 7: had the best team to bet got hurt. Yes, who
- 23:59Speaker 7: knows if Beck doesn't get hurt what they do Because
- 24:01Speaker 7: Beck was playing great, Back was playing great then So
- 24:04Speaker 7: I agree with you. But those two teams are so
- 24:06Speaker 7: strong everywhere else they are. If Stockton's hot or Morton's hot,
- 24:10Speaker 7: then you're not going to touch those teams.
- 24:11Speaker 5: No, true, I mean, and that's true.
- 24:14Speaker 8: But you know what, Uh, if Marcel Reid plays like
- 24:18Speaker 8: he's capable of playing, he can take that team aways too.
- 24:22Speaker 9: AM's got to figure out how to get Casey and
- 24:24Speaker 9: Mario more involved in the in the in the game.
- 24:28Speaker 9: Ceas and I have talked about this, but AM has
- 24:31Speaker 9: relied on the big play a ton this season, and
- 24:34Speaker 9: they really just haven't been able to get those guys
- 24:37Speaker 9: out into space and get them downfield.
- 24:40Speaker 8: Shot played the last three to four games.
- 24:44Speaker 9: No, the book, the book might be out a little
- 24:47Speaker 9: bit on how to bracket those guys pretty well, considering
- 24:51Speaker 9: how Texas covered well oh Man, Texas and Texas had
- 24:54Speaker 9: a great game play against Read last year. Whatever their
- 24:58Speaker 9: defensive coordinators. Yeah, if I was every other SEC coach,
- 25:02Speaker 9: I'd say, hey, how much you want for your trade?
- 25:05Speaker 4: Secrets.
- 25:06Speaker 7: Yeah, but without a doubt.
- 25:08Speaker 9: Without a doubt, they've got to get those two guys
- 25:10Speaker 9: back involved. They're too good to be mitigated the way
- 25:13Speaker 9: they have been the last few weeks.
- 25:14Speaker 8: Alex Miller is filling in for Rusty Berson today. Robert

- 30:08Speaker 7: But hey, you made you made my day by doing Uh,
- 30:13Speaker 7: it's a wonderful life. I would assume all those people
- 30:15Speaker 7: were dead, be quite honest with you.
- 30:17Speaker 8: And he said, there's the three three of the four
- 30:19Speaker 8: kids are still alive.
- 30:21Speaker 7: I heard that. Yeah, you know, and he touched on
- 30:23Speaker 7: a lot of things, and you did. And I know,
- 30:24Speaker 7: you get these kind of people in to help, uh,
- 30:27Speaker 7: you know, make the rest of us a little more educated.
- 30:29Speaker 7: But yeah, if you have, if you've never seen that movie.
- 30:33Speaker 5: You gotta see it with your kids, with your with
- 30:37Speaker 5: your kids. It's a great movie.
- 30:38Speaker 7: You don't care what age they are, the.
- 30:41Speaker 8: Kids of all ages, kids of all ages.
- 30:44Speaker 7: UH.

- 30:53Speaker 8: place of Rusty person who's recovering from.
- 30:55Speaker 5: The basketball game last night in Arlington.
- 30:58Speaker 8: UH. News came earlier to apparently on RG three's podcast,
- 31:03Speaker 8: Marcel Reid said he's coming back.
- 31:05Speaker 7: Alex worked on that story for us. We all thought
- 31:08Speaker 7: he was coming back.
- 31:09Speaker 4: Ye did anyone think he wasn't coming down?
- 31:11Speaker 9: I didn't, but he is draft eligible, so you got
- 31:15Speaker 9: to ask the question.
- 31:16Speaker 4: And he's had it look tough end of the year.
- 31:19Speaker 9: But let's be honest, until that Texas game, Marcel was
- 31:22Speaker 9: squaring the Heisman caniss one, and I think the finals
- 31:25Speaker 9: is about to be announced here pretty soon on Monday
- 31:28Speaker 9: night countdown.
- 31:29Speaker 5: Oh they are yeah, yeah.
- 31:30Speaker 7: And here's dyll Is. You got to ask the questions. Yeah,
- 31:33Speaker 7: because I never say never, because if somebody offers him
- 31:36Speaker 7: ten million dollars, is he going to go back to
- 31:39Speaker 7: Tennessee for example? I mean never. In college athletics, more
- 31:43Speaker 7: than ever, I never assume anything because there's so much
- 31:46Speaker 7: money out there and so many things involved, and you
- 31:49Speaker 7: don't know what kind of nil deals these kids work whatever.
- 31:54Speaker 7: It's just like a job. They suddenly they might want
- 31:56Speaker 7: to go somewhere else.
- 31:58Speaker 9: Definitely a good thing Adam's getting Marcell. Look this guy,
- 32:01Speaker 9: he's probably gonna go into twenty twenty six as a
- 32:03Speaker 9: Heisman front runner, and it'll be interesting to see who
- 32:06Speaker 9: aintm brings in his offensive coordinator and maybe how things.
- 32:10Speaker 8: Yeah, that's another subject that the coach wasn't really gonna
- 32:13Speaker 8: touch today.
- 32:14Speaker 7: Yeah, you're try I'm not saying.
- 32:17Speaker 9: It, but you do read some tea leaves. Gonna get
- 32:21Speaker 9: somebody in who runs a similar system. That's not a
- 32:24Speaker 9: shock and quite frankly, Adams should be able to attract
- 32:27Speaker 9: some pretty quality candidates. When when you've got a guy
- 32:30Speaker 9: like Marcel Reid coming back at quarterback, what Adam's got
- 32:34Speaker 9: at receiver.
- 32:35Speaker 4: Even though they're probably gonna lose case to the draft.
- 32:37Speaker 9: They'll still have Mario, They'll still have Terry Bussey, They'll
- 32:40Speaker 9: still have Ashton Bethel Roman, They've got some guys at
- 32:43Speaker 9: running back with Ruben Owens and Jamari and Morrow. Gonna
- 32:46Speaker 9: have to do some stuff on that offensive line, probably
- 32:48Speaker 9: through the portal, probably getting some guys that have been.
- 32:51Speaker 8: Back upon Is there gonna be a more competitive position
- 32:56Speaker 8: in college football and the portal that offensive line.
- 33:00Speaker 9: Well, Amam's got to learn from Texas mistake and not
- 33:04Speaker 9: attack from not attacking.
- 33:07Speaker 5: Yeah, not at the end of the playoffs.
- 33:09Speaker 9: But kudos to Texas. That offensive line did a great
- 33:11Speaker 9: job against Ay and in it.
- 33:12Speaker 8: Got better when they made the position switch right and
- 33:15Speaker 8: put the guy to center and move.
- 33:17Speaker 5: They got much better the last three games.
- 33:19Speaker 9: But the point is they they should have gone after
- 33:21Speaker 9: guys all along. Now I'm willing to bet that Aam's
- 33:25Speaker 9: gonna have some capable replacements that are backups right now.
- 33:28Speaker 4: But you need to get some competition in.
- 33:30Speaker 9: I mean, you look at what Aam's got on their
- 33:33Speaker 9: offensive line right now. Most of those guys were holdovers
- 33:36Speaker 9: from the Jimbo era, from a line that was really
- 33:39Speaker 9: stinking bad. But you bring in a guy like armaj
- 33:42Speaker 9: Reed Adams, you bring in Coley Fayo. Think of the
- 33:44Speaker 9: impact that those two guys have had on this offensive
- 33:47Speaker 9: line as transfers. Aam's got to find those next two
- 33:49Speaker 9: guys in the portal this year, no doubt.
- 33:51Speaker 7: And I've started read between the tee leaves. I would
- 33:54Speaker 7: think he's going to go outside for an offensive coordinator
- 33:56Speaker 7: and keep you know, his offensive coordinator that he already
- 33:59Speaker 7: has co offensive corner, even though we know those are
- 34:01Speaker 7: titles to keep people. And I'm with you the money
- 34:05Speaker 7: A and M now has to offer where they're at. Uh,
- 34:09Speaker 7: he should have his pick of his letter. And we
- 34:11Speaker 7: see it every day how important these hires are. Like
- 34:15Speaker 7: the new Florida coach makes a home run behind the
- 34:17Speaker 7: Vanderbilt offensive coordinator coach, there's a reason why and you
- 34:22Speaker 7: touched on a chip. It's more than just the head coach.
- 34:25Speaker 7: You better have really good assistance at certain levels or
- 34:29Speaker 7: you're not going to have success. We saw what happens,
- 34:32Speaker 7: and I'm sitting here, I have no idea how much
- 34:37Speaker 7: Elko added to the defensive room. I think it was
- 34:39Speaker 7: a lot with Bateman, but he touched on it. Today
- 34:42Speaker 7: you need more than one or two guys these days coaching,
- 34:45Speaker 7: and I think without a doubt him going back to
- 34:47Speaker 7: that side with Bateman made a big difference. And who's
- 34:50Speaker 7: coming in his offensive coordinator, Well that's a big that's
- 34:54Speaker 7: a big step because it's you got to see it works.
- 34:56Speaker 8: The Tennessee story had been that's not finalized, right, That's.
- 34:59Speaker 7: Okay, Tennessee farger defensive quarter stay by the way, and
- 35:03Speaker 7: what do you see when somebody gets happens when they lose.
- 35:06Speaker 7: You know, it's like, oh.
- 35:07Speaker 5: They're gonna go after teams that have won.
- 35:09Speaker 7: They're gonna after teams want defense, and you touched on Alex,
- 35:12Speaker 7: They're gonna touch you want your system, You think you
- 35:15Speaker 7: have a system, and that's when coaches get a little bit.
- 35:18Speaker 7: You can tell a little bit. I don't want you
- 35:21Speaker 7: word like Elko pointed out, this is spas the offense
- 35:24Speaker 7: he's running to do. This is what him, this is
- 35:27Speaker 7: what he wants to see it in an offense as
- 35:29Speaker 7: a defensive coordinator, because this is what's harder for him
- 35:32Speaker 7: to deal. You gotta be able to have a running
- 35:35Speaker 7: quarterback these days. You got to be able to run
- 35:38Speaker 7: the football when you need to.
- 35:40Speaker 9: Great great example though, of a guy with that side
- 35:43Speaker 9: of the ball that needs to make a good higher
- 35:46Speaker 9: right like you saw what happened after the twenty twelve
- 35:49Speaker 9: season and him loses Cliff Kingsbury and a that's a
- 35:52Speaker 9: perfect world where he's going home to his alma mater.
- 35:55Speaker 9: Point they had Johnny Manziel coming back, they bring in
- 35:58Speaker 9: Jake Spabottal. I think there were more issues beyond what
- 36:03Speaker 9: Johnny did, OK, but Spabital turned out to.
- 36:07Speaker 7: I would argue that go ahead. The defense cratering from
- 36:12Speaker 7: two thousand throughout the twenty thirteen I get it. Jake
- 36:16Speaker 7: spavatol now is a Baylor, He's been Texas state head coach.
- 36:20Speaker 7: He's been, to me, the right guy at the wrong
- 36:23Speaker 7: time because he followed Kingsbury's sudden he doesn't have a defense.
- 36:27Speaker 7: He still has a lot of offense. Ain't remember beating
- 36:31Speaker 7: Duke in the That was because they had no defense. Stavtol.
- 36:36Speaker 7: They could hang whatever you look. They were hanging points
- 36:39Speaker 7: after Johnny left with Heell, but they couldn't stop anybody.
- 36:43Speaker 7: Getting back to what I say, you gotta have both
- 36:45Speaker 7: and if you have one or the other, you're in trouble.
- 36:49Speaker 8: Which we talked about all season long, is how well
- 36:51Speaker 8: this team's played complimentary, very football. We've said that, and
- 36:56Speaker 8: as you mentioned, ce one are the issues the last
- 36:59Speaker 8: couple of games, games where they haven't played so well,
- 37:01Speaker 8: we haven't seen as much of that.
- 37:03Speaker 5: One side's been good the other side has.
- 37:05Speaker 7: It's amazing how that works because you get back to
- 37:09Speaker 7: what Chip and I like to talk about a line
- 37:11Speaker 7: of scrimmage link A and M lost both lines of
- 37:13Speaker 7: scrimmage against Texas. Texas run the ball, A and M didn't.
- 37:16Speaker 7: It's pretty simple. But yet that everything else falls in play.
- 37:19Speaker 8: Over that, and I think it's fair to say that
- 37:23Speaker 8: that Miami is an SEC line of scrimmage team.
- 37:28Speaker 5: Talk about the question right.
- 37:30Speaker 9: Well, and okay, what is A and M capable of
- 37:34Speaker 9: if say they take a performance that they had against
- 37:37Speaker 9: say Auburn. Where they were lights out for most of
- 37:40Speaker 9: the game, and the offense takes what they did say
- 37:43Speaker 9: against LSU and puts that together, and the kicking game
- 37:48Speaker 9: doesn't struggle and gets itself figured out what is a
- 37:52Speaker 9: andem capable of if they can actually put it all
- 37:55Speaker 9: together in a game.
- 37:57Speaker 8: But now we're talking about putting it all together four
- 38:00Speaker 8: times and against.
- 38:01Speaker 7: A good team, and you're gonna have to do that
- 38:03Speaker 7: against a good team. You're gonna probably play three quarters
- 38:05Speaker 7: really good against these good teams, just as you can't.
- 38:08Speaker 4: You're right.
- 38:08Speaker 5: I watched be Hard to Have a halflif.
- 38:10Speaker 7: I watched the Miami Notre Dame game, luckily because A
- 38:13Speaker 7: and M didn't play or whatever. Now, and I go, man,
- 38:15Speaker 7: both these teams have one or screamage players. Both these
- 38:19Speaker 7: teams have defensive.
- 38:20Speaker 5: They beat up on each other that game.
- 38:22Speaker 7: And I go like, and I'm thinking, man, eight, A
- 38:24Speaker 7: and M's playing that. That's we saw it. At that point.
- 38:27Speaker 7: We thought that was one. It was two of the
- 38:28Speaker 7: top thirteen to fourteen teams, no doubt, and they were.
- 38:31Speaker 9: That was a Sunday night game. That's that's why I
- 38:33Speaker 9: watched it. It was on Labor Day weekend. The Sunday
- 38:35Speaker 9: night game, okay, and then Belichick made his debut the
- 38:38Speaker 9: next day against TCU.
- 38:39Speaker 8: And your right, you're right, cease, you you did watch
- 38:44Speaker 8: that game, going, well, these these two teams probably gotta
- 38:48Speaker 8: be there.
- 38:48Speaker 9: The people thought Ruby Bain was gonna win the Heisman
- 38:51Speaker 9: as the defensive guy after that game. I mean, the
- 38:53Speaker 9: guy was incredible and he still is incredible, and he's
- 38:55Speaker 9: gonna be a first round pick, maybe in the top ten.
- 38:58Speaker 5: Yeah, he was.
- 38:59Speaker 7: You touched on it. And I can't get emphasize enough
- 39:02Speaker 7: that this committee really does a lot of bad things.
- 39:05Speaker 7: But the differences been playing two lane in Miami when
- 39:08Speaker 7: you look at seeing another SEC team and they probably
- 39:12Speaker 7: shouldn't be playing another SEC team, And that goes back
- 39:15Speaker 7: to the selection committee.
- 39:16Speaker 9: There's gonna be some serious ramifications, I think with the
- 39:19Speaker 9: way that everything shook out from this year's playoff bracket
- 39:23Speaker 9: selection seating, YadA.
- 39:25Speaker 5: YadA, we're going to sixteen.
- 39:27Speaker 9: It's definitely expanding, no doubt, especially because apparently Notre Dame
- 39:31Speaker 9: is going to get in if they're in the top
- 39:32Speaker 9: twelve according to Ross Dellinger.
- 39:34Speaker 5: So that was the agreement starting next year.
- 39:37Speaker 9: Agreement starting last year and Sankie's been pushing for sixteen.
- 39:41Speaker 9: The Big ten's kind of out here in Lakefield trying
- 39:44Speaker 9: to do whatever they're trying to do.
- 39:46Speaker 4: I think sixteen is definitely the next step.
- 39:50Speaker 9: And it's kind of telling that the playoff in ESPN
- 39:53Speaker 9: kind of reached that agreement to extend the deadline to
- 39:55Speaker 9: figure all those details out.
- 39:57Speaker 7: So you were right, Chip last year. This year they
- 40:02Speaker 7: corrected the seedings, so next year they'll correct. They'll take
- 40:06Speaker 7: probably some of the power out of the College Football
- 40:09Speaker 7: Playoff Committee to screw up the way they did, because
- 40:12Speaker 7: that's just such a bad error. If you take that away,
- 40:16Speaker 7: if they matter all along, if Miami was ahead of
- 40:22Speaker 7: Notre Dame, I don't think they could squawk too much.
- 40:24Speaker 7: All they'll say Alabama shouldn't have gone in, But Alabama
- 40:27Speaker 7: was in the title game, so they'll take to me,
- 40:30Speaker 7: they'll take less power away.
- 40:31Speaker 5: That do you do? You guys either whatever? See the
- 40:36Speaker 5: conference championships going away.
- 40:38Speaker 9: I mean, if it gets to twenty four to twenty eight,
- 40:41Speaker 9: just from simply math the longevity calendar.
- 40:44Speaker 4: You're gonna you're gonna have to I mean, are they gonna.
- 40:47Speaker 8: I find it hard to believe you would take those
- 40:49Speaker 8: extra games would replace the revenue that these conference games
- 40:53Speaker 8: are generating.
- 40:54Speaker 9: Yes, but you know, it's interesting the way that the
- 40:57Speaker 9: ticket revenue goes down in the CFP. It's kind of
- 41:00Speaker 9: interesting because the schools don't.
- 41:02Speaker 4: Get a ton of that. The playoff gets all that money.
- 41:06Speaker 9: And so what will be interesting is how are they
- 41:10Speaker 9: going to adjust the calendar, because they're going to have
- 41:12Speaker 9: to adjust the calendar somehow to fit this whole thing
- 41:15Speaker 9: in the fact that this goes to January twentieth is
- 41:17Speaker 9: kind of ridiculous. Like, agree, there are a lot of
- 41:20Speaker 9: schools that have already started the next semester of school.
- 41:24Speaker 9: And what I don't see is them cutting down regular
- 41:28Speaker 9: season games from twelve to eleven because who wants to
- 41:31Speaker 9: give up a home game's worth of revenue when you
- 41:33Speaker 9: actually do get all the ticket sales and ticket prices
- 41:36Speaker 9: only keep going up and up and up.
- 41:38Speaker 4: And think about this.
- 41:40Speaker 9: Town, like how much of a detriment would it be
- 41:42Speaker 9: to College Station and Brian to not have another A
- 41:46Speaker 9: and M home football.
- 41:47Speaker 8: If you do away with the conference games and you
- 41:51Speaker 8: go to sixteen, you could still have New Year's Weekend
- 41:57Speaker 8: for the National championship. You don't have to or at
- 42:01Speaker 8: worst the week after New Year's right with the semifinals
- 42:05Speaker 8: and bowl games on New Year's.
- 42:07Speaker 9: The problem becomes if you get rid of the conference
- 42:10Speaker 9: championship games, think about think about having to figure out
- 42:15Speaker 9: a tiebreaker between Alabama Georgia almost now.
- 42:18Speaker 8: Apparently none of the conferences can figure out a tie
- 42:21Speaker 8: breaking system.
- 42:22Speaker 4: No.
- 42:23Speaker 8: I can't understand why it's that difficult, but apparently it's real.
- 42:27Speaker 8: And if you read the SEC tiebreaker we talked about
- 42:30Speaker 8: this with A and M. They had to beat Texas, right,
- 42:32Speaker 8: even though they were gonna be eleven to one.
- 42:35Speaker 5: You had to beat Texas. And it's like, okay, but
- 42:38Speaker 5: they've been you know.
- 42:40Speaker 8: Fourth, fifth all year, whatever, third all year, and now
- 42:43Speaker 8: you're saying they have to win, you know, one more
- 42:45Speaker 8: game and this team's sitting over there with with one
- 42:48Speaker 8: loss or two losses.
- 42:49Speaker 5: But no, because of the tiebreaker system.
- 42:53Speaker 8: SEC tiebreaker system is just as bad if you read
- 42:56Speaker 8: it as the ACC tie breaker.
- 42:58Speaker 9: But I guess if you think about it too, if
- 42:59Speaker 9: you're basically going away with conference title games, like okay,
- 43:04Speaker 9: who cares about the conference championship? Everybody's just solely focused
- 43:08Speaker 9: on the playoff. You want to just get to the
- 43:10Speaker 9: playoff and get to seeding.
- 43:11Speaker 5: But aren't we there anyway?
- 43:13Speaker 8: Well, here's my deal is I mean, the bold games,
- 43:15Speaker 8: how long are they gonna last?
- 43:16Speaker 7: Okay, you're saying, I get it, because the ticket revenue
- 43:20Speaker 7: SEC title game. If you want to keep the conference championships,
- 43:25Speaker 7: you gotta have give and take. Here's what I would do.
- 43:27Speaker 7: You keep the four ones that matter, the major ones.
- 43:31Speaker 7: You make it so a if you get to the
- 43:34Speaker 7: conference title game, you're automatically in the College Football Playoff.
- 43:37Speaker 7: That would be half the field, eight of sixteen. I
- 43:39Speaker 7: will also make Notre Dame join the ACC.
- 43:42Speaker 9: So that way, well, they might be going to the
- 43:44Speaker 9: Big Ten after all what they said, the ACC slided
- 43:46Speaker 9: them about with all their negative propaganda.
- 43:48Speaker 7: What I'm saying is, so then you've got eight. That
- 43:51Speaker 7: leaves eight more spots open. So how you determine those?
- 43:55Speaker 7: You probably only give one to the group of five.
- 43:57Speaker 7: That way you have seven more people you can get.
- 44:00Speaker 7: And I get it. Everybody says, all says here, all
- 44:02Speaker 7: the talking is, well, then seventeen and eighteen will complain. Okay,
- 44:06Speaker 7: I agree with that, but.
- 44:08Speaker 8: Hey, you got sixties eight basketball and now sixty nine
- 44:11Speaker 8: and seventy and seventy one or complaint.
- 44:13Speaker 7: But my point being is seventeen and eighteen won't make
- 44:18Speaker 7: as much squawk as we used to do when there's
- 44:20Speaker 7: only four. I can remember time the top two went
- 44:23Speaker 7: in three and four complaint. So you can have less complainers.
- 44:27Speaker 7: It won't be watered down. You can do a way
- 44:29Speaker 7: with the buy so you end at the same time
- 44:31Speaker 7: or go early because you don't have won less round.
- 44:34Speaker 7: You have sixteen people. The conference championships can stay. You decide.
- 44:39Speaker 7: If your top two get there, they go.
- 44:41Speaker 5: I don't like playing that many games.
- 44:43Speaker 8: I mean, I love I love watching the games, but
- 44:46Speaker 8: at some point doesn't somebody have to step in and say, look,
- 44:50Speaker 8: playing sixteen seventeen games is not real healthy for these games.
- 44:54Speaker 7: But I'm not ending anymore. If A and M wins four,
- 44:56Speaker 7: they're gonna be the same deal as if you went before.
- 44:59Speaker 5: All right, we'll take a right.

- 45:53Speaker 4: Sorry nineteen and.
- 45:55Speaker 18: A steamy potential comeback comes to a close as the
- 45:57Speaker 18: Dallas Cowboys fell to the Detroit lyon forty four to
- 46:00Speaker 18: thirty during last night's edition of Thursday Night Football. For
- 46:04Speaker 18: the Cowboys, they trailed the entirety of the evening as
- 46:06Speaker 18: they struggled out the gates on offense and special teams
- 46:09Speaker 18: issues helped the Lions jump out to a twenty to
- 46:12Speaker 18: six lead heading into halftime.
- 46:13Speaker 4: Quarterback Dak Prescott.
- 46:14Speaker 18: Didn't have his best outing as he went thirty one
- 46:16Speaker 18: to forty seven for three hundred and seventy six yards
- 46:19Speaker 18: with a touchdown in two interceptions, but the night belonged
- 46:22Speaker 18: to Lions running back Jimior Gibbs. Gibbs totaled one hundred
- 46:25Speaker 18: and twenty yards from scrimmage with a hat trick in
- 46:27Speaker 18: the end zone. Up next, Dallas will face the Minnesota
- 46:30Speaker 18: Vikings for Sunday night football. Kickoff at at and T

- 48:51Speaker 5: Probably, yeah, I mean you would think.
- 48:54Speaker 7: You know, I thought the committee would try to avoid rematches,
- 48:58Speaker 7: and they could have moved Alabama around, but then they
- 49:01Speaker 7: wouldn't have been able to hose Notre Dame. You know
- 49:03Speaker 7: what I'm saying is there's a lot of things.
- 49:04Speaker 8: When you were it made no sense to keep Alabama
- 49:07Speaker 8: at nine after they lost a football game and badly lost.
- 49:11Speaker 4: Especially after they dropped b YU down a couple of years.
- 49:14Speaker 8: And I was really surprised that Georgia wasn't the two seed,
- 49:18Speaker 8: that that it wasn't one, and then George as the
- 49:21Speaker 8: SEC champ.
- 49:22Speaker 7: Okay, I said to myself as I watched that, I'm
- 49:25Speaker 7: with you. I thought that was a coin flip. Though
- 49:28Speaker 7: my ballot doesn't matter and ap but I kept I
- 49:31Speaker 7: put out, oh, Haisty had only done one Okay, I
- 49:34Speaker 7: thought they they had said that they're the two best teams.
- 49:36Speaker 7: That was my thought, and once again I had no problem.
- 49:39Speaker 7: Was as stupid as the committee, so whatever. But getting
- 49:41Speaker 7: back to what you started is I am looking forward
- 49:43Speaker 7: to that game because I have no idea who might
- 49:46Speaker 7: win that game.
- 49:47Speaker 5: I tell you as as bad.
- 49:50Speaker 8: And the perception is at Oklahoma for five six, seven
- 49:53Speaker 8: years hadn't been really good.
- 49:55Speaker 5: But their home record.
- 49:57Speaker 8: Would you look at their home record, it's as good
- 50:01Speaker 8: as anybody in the country. I mean, they have not
- 50:04Speaker 8: lost very many games in Norman.
- 50:07Speaker 7: We've all been there. It's not been really intimidating place.
- 50:10Speaker 5: No, but they just they just have a loss there.
- 50:13Speaker 4: I've never been.
- 50:14Speaker 9: Oh you gotta remember, I was like in eighth grade
- 50:18Speaker 9: the last time I ain't and played them in the
- 50:20Speaker 9: Big twelve.
- 50:21Speaker 7: Thanks a lot, Alex, appreciate that.
- 50:23Speaker 5: Thanks Alex.
- 50:25Speaker 8: Alabama, Alabama comes in. They're just not playing very well.
- 50:30Speaker 7: No, can you you know? Can you flip? I love
- 50:34Speaker 7: coaches when they talk and all this coach talk how
- 50:37Speaker 7: can you flip that? You know, when your team's not
- 50:39Speaker 7: playing well and you're not here practicing today on whatever
- 50:42Speaker 7: day is December eighth, how do you how do you
- 50:46Speaker 7: fix that when you you haven't played well?
- 50:48Speaker 18: Well?
- 50:48Speaker 8: I don't know how you fix the quarterback because he
- 50:52Speaker 8: just hasn't been quite as good. Right, He wasn't good
- 50:56Speaker 8: against Auburn, but he made three throws that won the game,
- 50:59Speaker 8: and he made three incredible throws. And earlier the year
- 51:03Speaker 8: he was making ten to fifteen those incredible throws and
- 51:06Speaker 8: now he's not.
- 51:07Speaker 9: Yeah, he just hadn't been the same since that dumb injury,
- 51:09Speaker 9: let's be honest.
- 51:10Speaker 5: And he hasn't had a lot of protection either.
- 51:13Speaker 9: Yeah, and you know, I give look, I give the
- 51:15Speaker 9: guy props for getting back as quick as he did,
- 51:18Speaker 9: especially with the big game against Texas.
- 51:21Speaker 8: You're talking about material at Oklahoma. Yeah, I was talking
- 51:23Speaker 8: about Simpson.
- 51:25Speaker 4: Oh, you're talking about my bad.
- 51:31Speaker 8: I still don't know how he was a Heisman favorite
- 51:33Speaker 8: that third week of the season. I never saw it.
- 51:36Speaker 8: I never believed it. I still don't believe it. He's
- 51:40Speaker 8: been good enough for them to win close games, mostly
- 51:45Speaker 8: because of defense and special teams. The defense and special
- 51:49Speaker 8: teams at Oklahoma if it's just been outstanding.
- 51:53Speaker 7: I'm with you because and I saw this, you know,
- 51:57Speaker 7: you do advances, And I said, this material guy didn't
- 51:59Speaker 7: really see him much because he was on the West Coast.
- 52:01Speaker 7: Then I saw a couple of games and I go, wow,
- 52:03Speaker 7: how much did Oklahoma play this guy? Because he's gonna
- 52:06Speaker 7: get he's gonna get venerables.
- 52:08Speaker 5: Fired, not exactly exactly, And here I am.
- 52:11Speaker 7: He's one of the top, you know, the ten teams quarterbacks.
- 52:14Speaker 7: He goes wins a couple of games. Uh, and then
- 52:18Speaker 7: you watch the games and he seems to have a
- 52:21Speaker 7: sense of confidence and this team does around him, even
- 52:24Speaker 7: though they don't show that during the they look they're
- 52:28Speaker 7: tough to watch because.
- 52:29Speaker 8: They are hard to watch and they can't run the
- 52:31Speaker 8: ball at all. They cannot run the ball at all.
- 52:34Speaker 9: Looks like they're unveiling the Heisman finalists right now on ESPN.
- 52:37Speaker 9: It looks like it was Jeremiah Love, Fernana Mendoza, and
- 52:40Speaker 9: now they got Povey up there.
- 52:42Speaker 4: Okay, I guess we'll see.
- 52:43Speaker 9: They haven't gotten to the RS yet, so so that's three.
- 52:47Speaker 9: It looked like they were doing it alphabetically, so they
- 52:50Speaker 9: more than three saying we really.
- 52:54Speaker 7: Wow, I'm not surprised impressed about that.
- 52:57Speaker 9: Hey, they did open the voting before the big championship
- 53:00Speaker 9: game began.
- 53:01Speaker 5: So I kept that I got.
- 53:03Speaker 8: I don't know how many texts I got in the
- 53:05Speaker 8: last twenty hours, but I mean, I appreciate the reminders.
- 53:09Speaker 5: I probably need them. But interesting, that is interesting to me.
- 53:14Speaker 7: So that's it. That's it.
- 53:16Speaker 4: That's the four.
- 53:16Speaker 8: Jeremiah Love, Fernando Mendoza, Diego Pavia and Julian said are
- 53:23Speaker 8: the four Heisman finalists?
- 53:26Speaker 5: So which will be announced next Saturday night?
- 53:28Speaker 8: Right?
- 53:28Speaker 7: Yeah, so you got two of the guys from the
- 53:30Speaker 7: play from the weekend, number one versus number two.
- 53:34Speaker 5: Yeah, okay, And.
- 53:37Speaker 7: I guess we could talk about three three quarterback. I
- 53:39Speaker 7: guess we could talk about people are not on there?
- 53:42Speaker 7: I thought, and you know, I talked for a long time. Uh,
- 53:45Speaker 7: Haynes King was up there.
- 53:47Speaker 8: He was my guy at he was he lost the
- 53:50Speaker 8: game against Pitt, was a Pitt.
- 53:52Speaker 7: Yeah, you say, most outstanding player to me, he definitely
- 53:55Speaker 7: was up there. Considered what he did, my thoughts and
- 53:57Speaker 7: I can see why he's not on there, but yes,
- 53:59Speaker 7: definitely he came close. Yes, uh, you know I'm always
- 54:03Speaker 7: interested about a non quarterback. Now love made it, so
- 54:07Speaker 7: kudos to him, I wondered, for example, Rodriguez the linebacker
- 54:12Speaker 7: at Texas Tech.
- 54:14Speaker 8: So I guess I can talk about this next week, right,
- 54:18Speaker 8: we all can talk about about who our votes are?
- 54:20Speaker 7: Yeah, who are votes? We can't talk right now.
- 54:22Speaker 5: I'll just say it.
- 54:23Speaker 8: I've said all year, from day one, I love Jacob Rodriguez.
- 54:28Speaker 7: How could you not?
- 54:28Speaker 8: I just sought this guy, and even Saturday when his
- 54:32Speaker 8: his UH linebacker mate had the two picks and they
- 54:35Speaker 8: were outstanding, he ended up with thirteen taxi by the way, Yes, yeah,
- 54:40Speaker 8: here's what he's phenomenal.
- 54:41Speaker 4: And he still leads the country in turnovers, forced.
- 54:44Speaker 8: At forrest, interceptions, fumble recoveries. I mean, from day one,
- 54:48Speaker 8: this guy has been a difference maker.
- 54:50Speaker 9: And not to mention his whole story is just phenomenal.
- 54:53Speaker 9: It's an incredible story.
- 54:55Speaker 7: It is is we could talk about it. And what
- 54:57Speaker 7: I hate is like I said, I watched that Big
- 55:01Speaker 7: ten games. Ye see who the best team is? Who
- 55:03Speaker 7: might who I might vote for in the Heisman? And
- 55:05Speaker 7: then as soon as that game was over, I don't
- 55:08Speaker 7: know about you. Guys, you go to uh, you go
- 55:10Speaker 7: to social media immediately at an email and goes to
- 55:15Speaker 7: the top list.
- 55:16Speaker 5: Go, wait a minute, the game, yeah is over.
- 55:18Speaker 19: I know.
- 55:19Speaker 5: I was the same way season like, and I.
- 55:21Speaker 7: Go, can't people just enjoy games? And exactly everybody has
- 55:25Speaker 7: to be on the edge. Oh, I know what's happening,
- 55:27Speaker 7: you know. And and I thought, much like who might
- 55:30Speaker 7: win the national championship, I thought the Heisman Trophy was
- 55:33Speaker 7: wide open.
- 55:33Speaker 5: Here the last couple all all.
- 55:35Speaker 4: Year fun, fun, time to be a first time voters.
- 55:40Speaker 5: Hey, it's it's challenging. It is challenging.
- 55:43Speaker 8: Guys, Alex, thank you, cease, thank you. Yeah, we filled
- 55:47Speaker 8: a quick color. Thank you all so much.
- 55:48Speaker 7: A wonderful life.
- 55:49Speaker 8: It is a wonderful life. You really have had a
- 55:53Speaker 8: wonderful life.

- 56:40Speaker 8: But believe me, if it's got a DG little design

- 56:49Speaker 8: their attention. David Gardner's Jewelers Mondays through Saturdays ten to

- 57:59Speaker 4: If you missed Texas, you miss just.
- 58:01Speaker 7: As Mike Gokoki.
- 58:02Speaker 20: Yeah, I've said this to people, and this is you know,
- 58:06Speaker 20: I don't want anyone to take this the wrong way
- 58:08Speaker 20: because I understand what that game means. I understand what
- 58:10Speaker 20: going to Atlanta means, and there's bitter disappointment for all
- 58:13Speaker 20: of that. But I've said this. We talked a lot
- 58:14Speaker 20: about this last offseason, like there are two things that
- 58:17Speaker 20: can exist, right. There is bitter disappointment that can exist
- 58:20Speaker 20: along with and understanding that as long as we play
- 58:23Speaker 20: college football, and as long as we play football at
- 58:25Speaker 20: Texas A and M, we're going to lose and we're
- 58:28Speaker 20: going to have to move on right, And so saying
- 58:31Speaker 20: that doesn't try to justify it or make it okay,
- 58:34Speaker 20: but it's what's going to happen. You know, we're not
- 58:37Speaker 20: going to go thirty six and OHO over my next
- 58:39Speaker 20: three regular seasons. There's going to be losses mixed in there,
- 58:41Speaker 20: and we're going to have to figure out ways to
- 58:43Speaker 20: move forward. And it doesn't change it, but that's just
- 58:48Speaker 20: kind of how you have to be wired to be
- 58:49Speaker 20: successful in this sport of tech.
- 58:51Speaker 5: Ex Live weekdays from eight to eleven
