- 2:23Speaker 3: Yes there's football, Yes there's turkey and dressing and all
- 2:26Speaker 3: of a sudden they come along with it, parades and whatnot,
- 2:28Speaker 3: arguments with your family over something. But Union Mission is
- 2:31Speaker 3: going to present the fourteenth Annual Drumstick Dash Thanksgiving Morning.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Jason Contrell from Union Missions here, Tom Mentored from Chick
- 2:37Speaker 3: fil A as well. Tom, good morning and welcome to
- 2:39Speaker 3: the show. Good morning, Dave, thank you, thanks for having
- 2:41Speaker 3: us one. Hi and Jason, always a pleasure to have you,
- 2:43Speaker 3: my friend. Thank you, sir. Busy couple days for you
- 2:47Speaker 3: because we got this event which is Thanksgiving Day, but
- 2:49Speaker 3: then tomorrow we got Turkey Drop, which is happening here
- 2:52Speaker 3: either one of you. This is the fourteenth annual then
- 2:55Speaker 3: how this whole thing get started.
- 2:57Speaker 5: You know, that's a really good question. I think about Uh, obviously,
- 3:01Speaker 5: fourteen years ago they started this over at u See actually,
- 3:04Speaker 5: and they tried to keep it in Canall City, but
- 3:06Speaker 5: it got so big that they had to move it
- 3:08Speaker 5: over here to Charleston. So I don't know exactly what
- 3:10Speaker 5: year that was fourteen years ago. Yeah, but I mean
- 3:14Speaker 5: I don't know what year.
- 3:14Speaker 6: They more years, Charles, about three or four years in.
- 3:19Speaker 3: I was gonna give you a hard that one. I
- 3:22Speaker 3: was gonna say, I'm the guy that's not the math guide, Jason,
- 3:24Speaker 3: but come on, all right to me moving it to Charles,
- 3:26Speaker 3: I got you, I got you. So it's moving And
- 3:28Speaker 3: where where exactly does it take place in Charleston?
- 3:30Speaker 7: Uh?
- 3:31Speaker 5: Had at Riverfront, starts there, turns around at the Capitol,
- 3:34Speaker 5: and comes back and ends at the at the Riverfront
- 3:37Speaker 5: as well.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Now, Tom, talking about your involvement in this one.
- 3:39Speaker 6: Yeah, so honestly that Rex Whiteman, who was the director,
- 3:43Speaker 6: came and said, hey, we're gonna, we're gonna we're gonna
- 3:45Speaker 6: do this. We're gonna have this big thing. On Thanksgiving
- 3:47Speaker 6: Day said it's been successful, and so you know there
- 3:50Speaker 6: were no things giving day races and no way to
- 3:52Speaker 6: burn calories.
- 3:53Speaker 3: I mean, who got to burn calories beforehand? Beforehand? Yeah,
- 3:57Speaker 3: we call that pregaming. Yeah, you know, and so we've
- 3:59Speaker 3: got a pre game.
- 4:00Speaker 6: So he's uh, he'd ask us to be a partnership,
- 4:03Speaker 6: and so what a great opportunity to help feed people
- 4:06Speaker 6: and be able to provide uh in a partner with
- 4:10Speaker 6: the Union mission and their goal and their vision for
- 4:12Speaker 6: the people in in the kanav Valley and all across
- 4:15Speaker 6: the state, but definitely the Kanaul Valley and.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Those those people that run and those I almost said
- 4:19Speaker 3: those of us that run. Then I had to stop
- 4:21Speaker 3: myself and said, no, no, people that run. I have found.
- 4:24Speaker 3: It's like golfers. Uh, they want to help the community,
- 4:27Speaker 3: but they'll they'll do about anything they have an excuse
- 4:29Speaker 3: to come out to run. Is that right? Yes?
- 4:31Speaker 6: Yes, But there's a lot of people come out and
- 4:33Speaker 6: miss washed and jog and families come out right like
- 4:36Speaker 6: Jason talking earlier, they get they get dressed up and
- 4:39Speaker 6: do it's crazy.
- 4:39Speaker 5: You see more dogs in Turkey outfits and you can
- 4:42Speaker 5: imagine at this event it's crazy.
- 4:44Speaker 3: It's kind of like a little reunion too.
- 4:46Speaker 6: Because if people coming from out of state and they
- 4:47Speaker 6: see their friends they haven't seen since last year. I
- 4:50Speaker 6: haven't seen a while of people. Uh you know, you'll say,
- 4:53Speaker 6: hugging each other. It's like, I haven't seen you forever.
- 4:55Speaker 6: I'm like, you know, they're coming in from out of state,
- 4:57Speaker 6: which is awesome to be able to see it.
- 4:59Speaker 3: And Thanksgiving, guys, one of those holidays, I mean, you know,
- 5:01Speaker 3: the the Wednesday before Thanksgiving traditionally is known as the
- 5:04Speaker 3: busiest day of the year because sometimes people don't always
- 5:07Speaker 3: come in for the relatives for Christmas because we get
- 5:09Speaker 3: things with kids and so on and so forth. That
- 5:11Speaker 3: Thanksgiving is one of those that a lot of people
- 5:13Speaker 3: do gather. And again it's just a good opportunity to
- 5:16Speaker 3: come hang out a little bit. And what and it's
- 5:17Speaker 3: what starts at and registrations, what time.
- 5:19Speaker 5: We'll open the table. Register, I mean you can register now.
- 5:22Speaker 5: We would register for the last couple of months, but
- 5:25Speaker 5: you can register starting at seven o'clock if you need
- 5:27Speaker 5: to giving morning.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Do you recommend that people register ahead of time though
- 5:31Speaker 3: it helps us to get everything.
- 5:34Speaker 5: You can go to ap Timing's website and sign up
- 5:36Speaker 5: right there. You can go to our website as well.
- 5:39Speaker 3: And that's that ap timing. That's that's traditionally and runners
- 5:42Speaker 3: know that. Again I'm not one, but I know people
- 5:44Speaker 3: that are that. That's the traditional, you know way, the
- 5:47Speaker 3: way the people sign up for these things. And you'll
- 5:48Speaker 3: start at what time again, race starts at nine.
- 5:50Speaker 5: Well we'll be there well before then setting up there,
- 5:53Speaker 5: We've got a lot of things to do that morning.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Yeah, logistics and whatnot. Well, you know, I don't know
- 5:58Speaker 3: how much Creden's people put into long range forecast, but
- 6:03Speaker 3: I did look ahead and Thanksgiving looks pretty good, actually,
- 6:06Speaker 3: does it. Yeah, yeah, that's what I'll be keeping an
- 6:08Speaker 3: eye on it. I mean, but it can you know,
- 6:10Speaker 3: the meteorologist will tell you that can change. But no,
- 6:12Speaker 3: I'm looking ahead.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Now.
- 6:13Speaker 3: It's Sonny in forty four. It's saying Sonny, Sonny and
- 6:17Speaker 3: forty four. That's what it says. Now, Okay, Now, we'll
- 6:19Speaker 3: be in the middle of a blizzard or a heat
- 6:21Speaker 3: wave one of the two next week when it rolls around.
- 6:23Speaker 3: But again, if even if it is a little bit cool,
- 6:26Speaker 3: because I mean it's looking like it may be in
- 6:28Speaker 3: the thirties or forties with the time that you get
- 6:30Speaker 3: people running. That makes you run faster, right sure, and
- 6:33Speaker 3: runners don't mind don't mind the cold at old time. No,
- 6:35Speaker 3: there's this group.
- 6:36Speaker 5: There's this group that show up every year and there's
- 6:38Speaker 5: there's a select few and they're always out front, and
- 6:40Speaker 5: they start them out front because they're very serious about
- 6:42Speaker 5: their time. And there's these I don't know their names,
- 6:45Speaker 5: but there's a couple, guys, I'm telling you, I'm not
- 6:47Speaker 5: sure I actually finish hearing the gun go off and
- 6:51Speaker 5: they're on their way back. So there's people that take
- 6:54Speaker 5: it serious and then there's people that just use it as.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Fun now and that's I mean. And you can do, guys,
- 7:00Speaker 3: a combination of both. Plus you're there helping out Union mission.
- 7:04Speaker 3: And we're going to spend some time during our next
- 7:06Speaker 3: segment talking about our big event, which is happening tomorrow,
- 7:09Speaker 3: the Turkey Drop seven am l six pm on our
- 7:11Speaker 3: parking lot here. But this is a this has been
- 7:14Speaker 3: a you and I talked about this on the phone
- 7:16Speaker 3: on the air last week time, Jason. This has been
- 7:20Speaker 3: a very stressful year, a very stressful couple of months,
- 7:23Speaker 3: and we're not going to get into the political aspects
- 7:25Speaker 3: of it, but it is what it is. You know,
- 7:26Speaker 3: there was a government shut down, but if it's delayed,
- 7:28Speaker 3: everything seems to be getting back to normal now. But
- 7:31Speaker 3: this is even without a governmental shutdown. This is always
- 7:34Speaker 3: a very very stressful time a year for folks that
- 7:36Speaker 3: are trying to feed people.
- 7:37Speaker 5: Yeah, So our family, our Family Service department, we usually
- 7:40Speaker 5: do about twelve families a day coming through and picking
- 7:42Speaker 5: up from our warehouse food. And so we went to fifteen,
- 7:46Speaker 5: then we went to eighteen, then we went to twenty
- 7:48Speaker 5: a day, and we just it was like trying to
- 7:50Speaker 5: keep up with a whirlwind. And so I'm glad to
- 7:55Speaker 5: see things getting back to normal somewhat. Yeah, but we're
- 8:00Speaker 5: going to do everything we can to help the people
- 8:02Speaker 5: in West Virginia eat.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Yeah. Talking to Jason Contrail from Union Mission and Tom
- 8:06Speaker 3: Intern from Chick fil A to Dave Island Show in
- 8:07Speaker 3: five eighty Lives brought to you in part by Fresh
- 8:09Speaker 3: Air Filters of Tay's Valley. Fresh Airs your trust and
- 8:12Speaker 3: filter experts for both your homework business three zero four
- 8:14Speaker 3: four four zero one one zero four versus Fresh Air
- 8:17Speaker 3: Filters Dot Us because everyone deserves fresh air. Now, I
- 8:20Speaker 3: don't want to ask you about your involvement, and it's
- 8:22Speaker 3: Chick fil A's involvement in this.
- 8:24Speaker 6: Yes, So we've been a sponsor, E said. For the
- 8:26Speaker 6: past fourteen years, we were it was just us and
- 8:29Speaker 6: Union Mission. Now we've right been blessed to bring a
- 8:31Speaker 6: lot more people on because it's kind of one of
- 8:34Speaker 6: the things that's going It continues to grow every year,
- 8:36Speaker 6: not just with the amount of runners we have, but
- 8:38Speaker 6: also the sponsors as well.
- 8:40Speaker 3: So, uh, sponsors of what makes it happen. I mean,
- 8:42Speaker 3: you know, without that corporate buy in, Uh, it's it's very,
- 8:46Speaker 3: very difficult to pull off these big events that we
- 8:49Speaker 3: have in the Kanaal Valley without the corporate buy in.
- 8:51Speaker 6: Yes, sir, Yes, sir, I'm saying, and you know we're
- 8:53Speaker 6: in we're in the food business that we definitely want
- 8:55Speaker 6: to help help a Jason and Union Mission make sure
- 8:57Speaker 6: they'll be able to take care of everybody in this
- 9:00Speaker 6: and be able to help feed help feed others. So
- 9:02Speaker 6: that's our goal is you know, it's one of our
- 9:04Speaker 6: ways of being pointing back into the community and being
- 9:06Speaker 6: involved with that.
- 9:07Speaker 3: And that's one of the things Tom that I love
- 9:09Speaker 3: about Chick fil A because you know, especially the local
- 9:13Speaker 3: chick fil A's, which you are a part of. You
- 9:16Speaker 3: guys are always stepping up and big thanks to you,
- 9:19Speaker 3: because any time that we ever have an event here
- 9:21Speaker 3: at the station, we do the sock drop, we do
- 9:23Speaker 3: the turkey drop, we do backpack attack, we do all
- 9:27Speaker 3: these different things. Chick fil A is one of the
- 9:29Speaker 3: first people that signs up and just says, hey, let
- 9:32Speaker 3: me take a little bit of stress off you guys,
- 9:34Speaker 3: let us feed you today. And you don't know how
- 9:36Speaker 3: much that means when you're pulling off these big events
- 9:38Speaker 3: that we do here, just to be able to say, okay, well,
- 9:40Speaker 3: everybody's running around like crazy, our lunch is taken care
- 9:43Speaker 3: of and bus during our things like our turkey draw.
- 9:46Speaker 3: From time to time, you've been known to set us
- 9:48Speaker 3: up with a couple of coupons here or there, and
- 9:50Speaker 3: we just choose random people and give them free lunch.
- 9:52Speaker 3: So yes, actually.
- 9:52Speaker 6: Tomorrow we're providing everybody who brings a turkey is going
- 9:56Speaker 6: to get a thing for a free meal, freeing Chick.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Fil a meal. So there, you gotta be careful.
- 10:00Speaker 6: I've said freemal earlier and Jason was trying to volunteer,
- 10:03Speaker 6: but they come over to my house for things to
- 10:04Speaker 6: get out lunch.
- 10:06Speaker 3: So yeah, we're gonna make sure we're clear there.
- 10:07Speaker 6: But yes, for everybody brings a turkey tomorrow, we'll give
- 10:09Speaker 6: you a we'll get a coupon for a free chick
- 10:11Speaker 6: fue meal.
- 10:11Speaker 3: So all right, and that's our turkey. We'll talk about
- 10:14Speaker 3: that in the next segment seven am to six pm.
- 10:16Speaker 3: And again you may have said this already, but how
- 10:18Speaker 3: many people take part in the in the in the
- 10:20Speaker 3: Drumstick Dash?
- 10:21Speaker 5: Right now, I think we have seven hundred registered and
- 10:24Speaker 5: usually by Wednesday of next week, we'll have anywhere from
- 10:28Speaker 5: eleven hundred.
- 10:29Speaker 3: Eleven hundred people that give up their time on Thanksgiving
- 10:33Speaker 3: morning to come down and run it. And again, that's
- 10:36Speaker 3: not just West Virginia people we're talking. I mean, that's
- 10:39Speaker 3: not just Charleston people. I mean it's people from all over.
- 10:41Speaker 8: Right.
- 10:41Speaker 6: What I think is crazy is another about four or
- 10:43Speaker 6: five hundred people. There are fans that come down to
- 10:45Speaker 6: cheer the runners on. If I'm going to be out there,
- 10:47Speaker 6: I'm gonna at least be running, so I try to
- 10:49Speaker 6: stay warm. But you know, we've got there's a lot
- 10:51Speaker 6: of fans that come out and share their family members
- 10:53Speaker 6: and friends on, so true.
- 10:54Speaker 3: All right, give us the website again, were people dot com?
- 10:58Speaker 3: All right, and people can sign up there, they can
- 11:00Speaker 3: go to the other website and uh, and it is
- 11:02Speaker 3: recommended just just for logistics. You know that people can
- 11:05Speaker 3: get there. Everybody gets a T shirt and that sort
- 11:08Speaker 3: of thing. So just sign up ahead of time, please.
- 11:09Speaker 3: But but even if you can't, you're not a runner,
- 11:11Speaker 3: you're not a walker. You just want to cheer. You
- 11:13Speaker 3: want to bring the dogs down to put them in
- 11:14Speaker 3: a turkey costume. Speaking of dogs in a turkey costume,
- 11:17Speaker 3: there's a large middle aged man staring at us through
- 11:20Speaker 3: the glass in here with a turkey hat on.
- 11:21Speaker 4: Right now.
- 11:22Speaker 3: That's rob real. Just don't pay attention to him. I
- 11:24Speaker 3: just kind of ignore you. So that's awesome. It's one thing.
- 11:27Speaker 6: The T shirts this year, I already saw. I saw
- 11:29Speaker 6: the preview the T shirts and they're they're awesome every year,
- 11:32Speaker 6: but they're really awesome this year.
- 11:33Speaker 3: So they look good. All right, gives a little preview.
- 11:37Speaker 3: Let's just think blue, Think blue. Okay, can't go wrong
- 11:40Speaker 3: with that, all right, all right, guys, I appreciate you. Oh,
- 11:44Speaker 3: by the way, you got a text here for you, Tom.
- 11:46Speaker 3: This says Chick fil A south Ridge drive through kicks,
- 11:48Speaker 3: but nobody beats it. Awesome, Thank you so much. We appreciate,
- 11:52Speaker 3: we appreciate. We try our best. He doesn't even have
- 11:55Speaker 3: his phone out over here to text that in himself.
- 11:57Speaker 3: That's that's ay, I was it was. It was all right,
- 12:01Speaker 3: we got that textan. Guys, appreciate you being here. Jason,
- 12:04Speaker 3: if you want to hang out here for minute, sure,
- 12:05Speaker 3: I got this hooligan. It's going to come in here
- 12:07Speaker 3: to talk a little bit about a turkey drove tomorrow.
- 12:10Speaker 3: Tom You know, God bless you for everything that you.

- 15:14Speaker 3: Turkey Drop. Rob Reeal from our sister station ninety six
- 15:17Speaker 3: one KWS is stop by here this morning. Brought out
- 15:21Speaker 3: the turkey hat yet again. I never get tired of
- 15:23Speaker 3: seeing that turkey head.
- 15:24Speaker 13: Well, this is a different turkey head than the yeah yeah,
- 15:27Speaker 13: because not only does he have a turkey hat, he
- 15:30Speaker 13: has two.
- 15:31Speaker 3: And an entire turkey costume. You'll get to see that tomorrow.
- 15:35Speaker 3: That's tomorrow. I'll have to have you on during the
- 15:37Speaker 3: two o'clock hour a Metro News Midday tomorrow because that's
- 15:40Speaker 3: actually on TV. Okay, that's actually a Metro News TV,
- 15:43Speaker 3: So Stephanie make a point of that.
- 15:44Speaker 13: Tyrow, I actually kind of enjoy the idea that the
- 15:46Speaker 13: cameras have to rejigger because they're automatic cameras, with the
- 15:50Speaker 13: idea that this this turkey nick thing stands up a
- 15:53Speaker 13: good six inches over the.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Top of my head plus the hat too. Yeah, exactly.
- 15:58Speaker 3: That's a guttural, whiskey filled voice that you hear over here.
- 16:03Speaker 3: It's uh, you gonna have to narrow that day's Yeah,
- 16:05Speaker 3: that's some of our women that we have the working
- 16:08Speaker 3: in jailby but Talis, Steve Animal from ninety eight to
- 16:13Speaker 3: seven a month and wild A wonderful classic rock because
- 16:16Speaker 3: you know again this is this was Rob's baby. I
- 16:18Speaker 3: mean from day one, Rob said he wanted to do
- 16:20Speaker 3: this thing, and we all said, well, let's help, because
- 16:23Speaker 3: that's what we do. So we're all.
- 16:26Speaker 13: Gonna be, as people often say, with my ideas, are
- 16:29Speaker 13: you nuts?
- 16:31Speaker 3: And then we figure out how to do it.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Yeah, he calls it to drive through Turkey drop. I
- 16:36Speaker 2: just drive by and flip me the Bird.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Well, that's why that was that different from any other days.
- 16:42Speaker 3: That's what we do on rock radio, and then we
- 16:44Speaker 3: get to make jokes like that, and also asked Jason
- 16:45Speaker 3: stick around from Union Mission as well. So sorry you
- 16:48Speaker 3: had to put up with this. No so good with having,
- 16:51Speaker 3: as I said earlier, with having Robin me on the
- 16:53Speaker 3: air the last couple days. If it wasn't enough of
- 16:54Speaker 3: a frat boy show, let's bring in Steve Animal.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Now I have no idea why you called me.
- 16:59Speaker 3: He was in the doing a contest and I just
- 17:01Speaker 3: walked upstairs and and I just said, hey, come down
- 17:03Speaker 3: at nine twenty.
- 17:04Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 17:05Speaker 3: So so let's I mean rob So let's explain it.
- 17:08Speaker 13: The particulars our third annual drive through Turkey Drop is
- 17:12Speaker 13: tomorrow seven in the morning until six in the evening.
- 17:14Speaker 13: Here at eleven eleven Virginia Street East. That's if you're
- 17:17Speaker 13: a GPS plugger inner Leon Sullivan is our closest cross street.
- 17:21Speaker 13: We're next to First pres and there is some construction
- 17:24Speaker 13: on Virginia Street. I mentioned this yesterday. That can make
- 17:26Speaker 13: it kind of tricky to maneuver. So if you're if
- 17:28Speaker 13: you're using the freeway to get here, skip the Virginia
- 17:31Speaker 13: Street exit. Go ahead and come all the way around
- 17:33Speaker 13: to Leon Sullivan. It's the easier way to get in
- 17:35Speaker 13: and out. We are collecting frozen turkeys, cash and check
- 17:39Speaker 13: and credit card donations. I know, Jason and Union Mission
- 17:43Speaker 13: got the QR code all set up, so all you
- 17:45Speaker 13: do is loop through our parking lot and make your donation.
- 17:48Speaker 13: You don't have to get out of your nice, warm, comfortable, safe,
- 17:50Speaker 13: dry vehicle, hand us that frozen turkey through the window,
- 17:54Speaker 13: or if you've got them in the back, pop the hatch.
- 17:56Speaker 13: We will do all the heavy lifting. And when I
- 17:58Speaker 13: say we, I mean Union Mission because you know radio
- 18:00Speaker 13: people and noodle arms and uh we we we We
- 18:04Speaker 13: want to put turkeys on tables for families this holiday season.
- 18:07Speaker 13: I genuinely believe every family, no matter of circumstances, no
- 18:12Speaker 13: matter what's been going on politically, where you stand this
- 18:14Speaker 13: side or the other, feel some kind of way about
- 18:16Speaker 13: what's going on, everybody deserves to have a happy holiday meal.
- 18:20Speaker 13: And that's all we're trying to do is feed folks.
- 18:23Speaker 13: Jason Man, I think you said it all. That's I
- 18:27Speaker 13: can't imagine everybody.
- 18:29Speaker 5: I can't imagine growing up not having Thanksgiving with my family.
- 18:32Speaker 3: And uh, but you see that though, Jason every day.
- 18:35Speaker 5: Well yeah, I mean, I mean it's we hear it
- 18:40Speaker 5: and we we we we do everything we can to
- 18:44Speaker 5: combat it. But we can do that without you guys
- 18:47Speaker 5: doing things like this. This is pretty amazing. So last
- 18:50Speaker 5: year you told me that you you had one and
- 18:52Speaker 5: twenty seven turkey, seven turkeys and about five grand in
- 18:56Speaker 5: monetary donations.
- 18:57Speaker 3: I would love to eclipse that.
- 18:59Speaker 13: I know it's been a tough year, but that's the
- 19:01Speaker 13: reason why I would love to it.
- 19:03Speaker 3: It's an amazing it's amazing. And again we announced that
- 19:07Speaker 3: we are able to do QR codes right, yes, and
- 19:10Speaker 3: so the QR codes if that's your thing. And Tom
- 19:13Speaker 3: Minturn from Chick fil A just told us that everybody
- 19:15Speaker 3: that donates turkey is going to get a coupon for
- 19:17Speaker 3: a free meal at Chick fil A.
- 19:19Speaker 13: Tom is an amazing partner in so many things with us.
- 19:22Speaker 13: He does free lunch Friday Hero Edition with us on
- 19:24Speaker 13: ninety six to one KWUS where we get to honor
- 19:27Speaker 13: folks who go above and beyond.
- 19:28Speaker 3: We get to do that every week.
- 19:30Speaker 13: It's similar to the wonderful West Virginian that you do
- 19:32Speaker 13: every week on the network show Big Time, and so
- 19:39Speaker 13: Tom is always a fantastic partner. And Tim and Felicia
- 19:43Speaker 13: and Kayla and everybody at the mccorkyl Avenue location. I
- 19:45Speaker 13: want to make sure I give them a shout out
- 19:47Speaker 13: because that's that's where the grub is coming from tomorrow
- 19:49Speaker 13: for our folks. So they're taking care of us while
- 19:52Speaker 13: we take care of our friends and abl.
- 19:53Speaker 3: They're actually taking care of us twice. You don't know this.
- 19:56Speaker 5: He is providing breakfast for us tomorrow morning as well.
- 19:59Speaker 3: Hot Dog.
- 20:02Speaker 13: I tried a little fat or just thinking about that,
- 20:06Speaker 13: Like the cartoon cat whose eyes turn into dollar signs,
- 20:09Speaker 13: did mine just turn into chick mini's? They did?
- 20:11Speaker 3: Because I think that. Yeah. And Steve, I want to
- 20:14Speaker 3: I want to bring this up to you because you know,
- 20:16Speaker 3: you're somebody that much like mister Real. You know, as
- 20:20Speaker 3: they say, you're not from West Virginia, but you got
- 20:21Speaker 3: here as quickly as you could. You've been in West
- 20:23Speaker 3: Virginia for how many years now, thirty five thirty five
- 20:25Speaker 3: years via Detroit slash New England somewhere.
- 20:28Speaker 2: I don't know how you got to Boston, Providence Griffin
- 20:31Speaker 2: Donald Trump Nightmare firing and buying stations and I landed here.
- 20:35Speaker 3: But you see, you see this, and I talk about
- 20:38Speaker 3: this all the time, what West Virginians do for West
- 20:40Speaker 3: Virginians and it's and I'm sorry, there are great people
- 20:43Speaker 3: all across this country. It's not like that everywhere. No
- 20:46Speaker 3: it's not.
- 20:46Speaker 2: It really isn't. And people here I mean overall, like
- 20:50Speaker 2: when friends come to visit, like, people are really nice here.
- 20:53Speaker 2: You know, they're really friendly. They and they try to
- 20:55Speaker 2: help each other. And that's what we're doing.
- 20:57Speaker 9: What we do.
- 20:57Speaker 2: I mean, we couldn't do it, you know, I say
- 20:59Speaker 2: it all the time. You know, it's brought to us
- 21:01Speaker 2: or brought to you by us and whoever whatever sponsor is.
- 21:05Speaker 2: But it's really you who's listening right now. You guys
- 21:10Speaker 2: come to the table and make it happen. So it's
- 21:13Speaker 2: all about you guys doing some good for the neighborhood.
- 21:16Speaker 2: I say it all the time.
- 21:17Speaker 3: So and we see it in all of these different
- 21:19Speaker 3: events that I'm not patting ourselves on the back, but
- 21:20Speaker 3: I'm saying, this is where we see it. When we
- 21:22Speaker 3: see it with sock drop, we see it with a
- 21:25Speaker 3: backpack attack, we see it with trick or beat and
- 21:28Speaker 3: we see it with all of these different promotions that
- 21:30Speaker 3: we do. Rob it.
- 21:32Speaker 13: There's a reason I came back. I've lived in seventeen states.
- 21:35Speaker 13: I was posted to three other countries. It is different here.
- 21:39Speaker 13: There are wonderful individuals, even groups in other places, but
- 21:44Speaker 13: there is nothing like the way West Virginians take care
- 21:48Speaker 13: of West Virginians.
- 21:49Speaker 3: That's what we do. I get to see that every day.
- 21:51Speaker 3: I was going to say, you get to see it
- 21:52Speaker 3: more than anybody.
- 21:53Speaker 5: Yes, yeah, it's amazing how someone's hungry, somebody comes out
- 21:57Speaker 5: of the woodwork to help that person.
- 21:59Speaker 3: And since you know we're giving in and we're asking
- 22:01Speaker 3: for the frozen turkeys, well, as I said yesterday, Jason
- 22:04Speaker 3: will accept other things, but we would much rather have
- 22:07Speaker 3: the frozen turkeys or the cash that's straight much where
- 22:09Speaker 3: that's where the straight straight QR just doesn't sound, doesn't
- 22:12Speaker 3: have the same ring that's straight QR code. But we
- 22:16Speaker 3: will accept them because we had peop last year and said,
- 22:18Speaker 3: well can I drop this off and we'll take it.
- 22:20Speaker 3: I mean, that's what we're asking for, but we'll take
- 22:22Speaker 3: whatever you can you can give. Talk about the way
- 22:25Speaker 3: that you guys go about feeding people over there because
- 22:28Speaker 3: you talked about in the last segment about the number
- 22:29Speaker 3: of people that you have come through there. But to
- 22:31Speaker 3: get into that a little bit.
- 22:32Speaker 5: Well, just I want everybody to know that these turkeys
- 22:35Speaker 5: are going to go to our Thanksgiving distribution Saturday. We
- 22:38Speaker 5: have three hundred family signed up. And we're talking about
- 22:40Speaker 5: we're not We're talking about single mom raising three kids
- 22:44Speaker 5: that has emailed in or called in and said I
- 22:46Speaker 5: need help for Thanksgiving. And what you guys are doing,
- 22:49Speaker 5: you're providing a turkey on the table for a single
- 22:52Speaker 5: mom with three kids that's working her fingers to the
- 22:56Speaker 5: bone to try to make ends meet and she's eating
- 23:00Speaker 5: help to provide Thanksgiving for kids. You guys are providing that.
- 23:03Speaker 5: That's huge, that's amazing. And so three hundred families on Saturday.
- 23:08Speaker 5: But what we do in Family Services, we see anywhere
- 23:10Speaker 5: from twelve families to twenty families a day Monday through Friday,
- 23:14Speaker 5: and average family West Virginia is three and so we're
- 23:19Speaker 5: feeding over one thousand people a month easy and justin
- 23:21Speaker 5: family and.
- 23:23Speaker 3: Again, Jason, I want to make sure people understand not
- 23:25Speaker 3: that it matters because you don't ask questions. You're just
- 23:27Speaker 3: there to help people. But and I don't want to
- 23:29Speaker 3: put you on the spot. If you don't want to answer,
- 23:30Speaker 3: you don't have to. But if you were to guess
- 23:32Speaker 3: how many of those people are working people, how many
- 23:35Speaker 3: would do that? What percentage now in twenty twenty five
- 23:38Speaker 3: fifty fifty percent? And the reason I bring that up
- 23:42Speaker 3: is is because when people will call the show or
- 23:44Speaker 3: text the show. And I'm not saying that there isn't
- 23:47Speaker 3: fraud in the system. We all know that fraud in
- 23:49Speaker 3: every system human nature. But this whole thing about, well,
- 23:53Speaker 3: these people just need to get a job. Fifty percent
- 23:55Speaker 3: of them do have jobs, and many of them are
- 23:57Speaker 3: retired people. As you deal with that, are are out
- 24:00Speaker 3: of the working age.
- 24:01Speaker 5: Our motto Union mission is We'll take care of the
- 24:03Speaker 5: needy and let God take care of the greedy.
- 24:06Speaker 3: Couldn't put that, couldn't couldn't put that better myself? Yeah,
- 24:09Speaker 3: put that on a T shirt or a turkey suit.
- 24:12Speaker 3: I know what, God, I know it might drop in Yes, hashtack, Shanles,
- 24:16Speaker 3: well done, Yeah, East Coast's and saying all that tonight.
- 24:19Speaker 3: But but well, guys, I appreciate you've been here seventy
- 24:22Speaker 3: in to six pm tomorrow final final plea for people tomorrow.
- 24:26Speaker 5: Yeah, come on by help us feed people for Thanksgiving.
- 24:29Speaker 5: There are hurting people and we need to do our
- 24:31Speaker 5: best to help those people.
- 24:32Speaker 13: All right, Rob, look next door to the right or
- 24:35Speaker 13: to the left. The odds are that you or one
- 24:40Speaker 13: of your closest neighbors, maybe right across the street. Is
- 24:43Speaker 13: food insecure? The kinds of people we are going to
- 24:47Speaker 13: be helping. Keep them in mind.
- 24:49Speaker 3: Picture those folks when you loop through our parking line.
- 24:51Speaker 3: And and Jason, Rob and I had this discussion yesterday,
- 24:54Speaker 3: But what food insecure is and about the services that
- 24:57Speaker 3: you and other organizations offer. You know, there's different it's
- 25:00Speaker 3: between I mean food and secure basically means Okay, I
- 25:03Speaker 3: may have my next meal and I may not. Doesn't
- 25:06Speaker 3: necessarily mean you're one hundred percent not going to have one,
- 25:08Speaker 3: but you may or may not. Talk about that briefly, Yeah,
- 25:10Speaker 3: I mean, we believe it or not. In twenty twenty five,
- 25:13Speaker 3: we have places in West Virginia that we call a
- 25:15Speaker 3: food desert. Oh yeah, And.
- 25:19Speaker 5: There's a lot of organizations that are working to combat that.
- 25:22Speaker 5: But it's difficult and we need people like you all
- 25:24Speaker 5: and your constituents and listeners to jump on board and
- 25:28Speaker 5: partner with us to reach those people.
- 25:30Speaker 13: When we talk about school consolidation, and I swear I'm
- 25:33Speaker 13: not going political. People get worried about not having neighborhood schools.
- 25:37Speaker 13: It's the same a school desert would be the same
- 25:40Speaker 13: as a food desert. If you're worried about what happens
- 25:42Speaker 13: when your local school disappears, think about what happens when
- 25:45Speaker 13: there's not a local market, when there's not a local
- 25:47Speaker 13: food pantry, when there aren't local jobs for folks to
- 25:50Speaker 13: be able to do these things.
- 25:52Speaker 3: Seven am to six pm. It's on our parking lot
- 25:54Speaker 3: tomorrow Tomorrow eleven eleven Virginia Street East in Charleston. We'll
- 25:57Speaker 3: have it fully staffed all day, so if you're on
- 26:00Speaker 3: your lunch break or whatever, you don't even have to
- 26:01Speaker 3: get out of the car and look. We and Rob
- 26:04Speaker 3: and I talked about this yesterday. Steve, and I know
- 26:06Speaker 3: you've seen this in various charitable things that you've done.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Is we've seen people that have come up. We had
- 26:10Speaker 3: a guy last year from Clay County that brought up
- 26:12Speaker 3: like a whole truck. Hopefully he went to his local
- 26:14Speaker 3: Pigley Wigglely Kroger whatever and came and bought a bunch
- 26:17Speaker 3: of turkeys. And then we had luck, and then we
- 26:19Speaker 3: had somebody and somebody else that came in said, well,
- 26:22Speaker 3: I wish I could do more, but here's five dollars.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Every dollar helps, every dollar guaranteed. I mean, if you're
- 26:28Speaker 2: out today and you want to buy an extra frozen
- 26:31Speaker 2: bird or two, toss it in the cart. If you
- 26:33Speaker 2: can't do that, bring your check book if you still
- 26:35Speaker 2: write checks like.
- 26:36Speaker 13: That, yes, Pat Paul, or cash, which is what I do. Yeah, see,
- 26:43Speaker 13: I'm the QR credit card guy. I don't even carry cash.
- 26:46Speaker 3: So all right, seven amfl six pm tomorrow on our
- 26:49Speaker 3: parking lot eleven eleven Virginia Streets and Charleston. And again,
- 26:52Speaker 3: anybody that donates while supplies last, want to throw that
- 26:54Speaker 3: out there, anybody that donates frozen turkey tomorrow, Tom men
- 26:57Speaker 3: turned into folks at Chick fil A are going to
- 26:59Speaker 3: hook you up with a free Chick fil A meal. Now,
- 27:01Speaker 3: I guess Tom had to leave, so I guess that's
- 27:04Speaker 3: like one per car, right, because we don't want somebody
- 27:06Speaker 3: to come in bring us fifty turkeys and get fifty meals, right,
- 27:09Speaker 3: I mean, we don't care because Tom's not here and
- 27:10Speaker 3: he can't speak for himself.
- 27:11Speaker 2: So Tom, you better come back and bring some more cars.
- 27:14Speaker 3: We'll give you a chick fil A franchise. We'll start
- 27:19Speaker 3: with them all. Well, it would be a good place
- 27:22Speaker 3: for a chick fil A, but uh, the world's chick
- 27:24Speaker 3: fil A, the world's largest chick fil A, the Charleston
- 27:26Speaker 3: Town Center, mall ah. The jokes we say off the
- 27:30Speaker 3: air right seven am, six pm on our parking lot Tomorrow,
- 27:33Speaker 3: eleven eleven, Virginia Treat Charleston. Jason Contrell Union, MISSI appreciate
- 27:37Speaker 3: you being here man, thanks a lot, Rob Real. I
- 27:39Speaker 3: will have you back on tomorrow morning. And also, Jason,
- 27:43Speaker 3: if you get a chance to run, because I know
- 27:45Speaker 3: you're pretty much here all day tomorrow as well. So
- 27:47Speaker 3: i'll have this who will get on tomorrow morning? I
- 27:49Speaker 3: think what I think? It's nine twenty tomorrow. I have
- 27:51Speaker 3: you on, So just come on back in Animal. Yes,
- 27:54Speaker 3: another adequate performance. I appreciate it. Thank you, low word
- 27:57Speaker 3: expecting see the Animal nine eight seven A Mountain wild
- 28:01Speaker 3: a wonderful classic rock. I'll get a quick a quick
- 28:03Speaker 3: promo in for you. You will be live at Fife
- 28:05Speaker 3: Street tomorrow night, downtown Charleston, so after everybody's worked here
- 28:09Speaker 3: they can head on over the five straight. And how's
- 28:12Speaker 3: the Animal Ale?
- 28:14Speaker 2: The Animal Ale blew out again. I know there'll be
- 28:16Speaker 2: another mini re released December fifth. However, Thursday evening seven
- 28:20Speaker 2: o'clock VB four the Velvet Brothers playing some live music
- 28:25Speaker 2: at Fife for the evening, and come hungry. We'll have
- 28:28Speaker 2: Mountain merch flowers from Arts Flowers, some other gift certificates.
- 28:32Speaker 2: I think Ashley even hooked me up with some lottery
- 28:34Speaker 2: tickets to give away.
- 28:35Speaker 3: All right, there you go. Wasn't those already scratched off

- 33:02Speaker 3: We're gonna have the folks from the Dirty Birds are

- 33:11Speaker 3: as the owner of Selango Law. He's going to be
- 33:13Speaker 3: on the show as well on Friday. But again they

- 33:48Speaker 3: Stevens from the City of Nitro. Good morning, sir, Welcome
- 33:51Speaker 3: to the show.
- 33:52Speaker 8: Good morning David. How are you I.
- 33:54Speaker 3: Am doing five? What you got going on in Nitro?
- 33:57Speaker 3: My friend?
- 33:58Speaker 8: Well, again, I know we're trying to provide information for
- 34:02Speaker 8: the veterans out there that they can get the most
- 34:05Speaker 8: reliable information they can not from necessarily from the city
- 34:10Speaker 8: of Nitro, but just from the Veterans Administration themselves. This Friday,
- 34:17Speaker 8: I mean this Saturday, rather, this Saturday, November the twenty second,
- 34:22Speaker 8: from eleven to one o'clock the City of Nitro, we're
- 34:25Speaker 8: hosting the herschel Woody Williams VA Medical Center and other
- 34:30Speaker 8: local veteran organizations for an information What we're doing is
- 34:36Speaker 8: bringing everybody together in one place. And if you're a
- 34:40Speaker 8: veteran and it doesn't you don't have to be from Nitro,
- 34:43Speaker 8: from anywhere, from Saint Albans, from Dunbar, from Charleston, from
- 34:46Speaker 8: Hurricane it doesn't matter. You know, you can come and
- 34:50Speaker 8: they will be at least fifteen different information boosts as
- 34:55Speaker 8: it pertains to veteran programs and what benefits are available
- 35:00Speaker 8: at the VA and that sort of thing. Representatives will
- 35:04Speaker 8: be there to answer questions. You won't be getting on
- 35:08Speaker 8: the phone and calling somebody, you won't be texting somebody,
- 35:11Speaker 8: you won't be getting an email from somebody. You can
- 35:14Speaker 8: go and face to face and say I am being denied.
- 35:18Speaker 8: Why am I being denied? I need this information? Where
- 35:22Speaker 8: can I get it? How can you help me?
- 35:24Speaker 3: As simple as that, well, and again this is we're
- 35:26Speaker 3: talking with Joe Stephens from the City of Nitro about
- 35:28Speaker 3: this veterans information thing that's happening. And again, sometimes Joe,
- 35:32Speaker 3: people can be a little bit hesitant. Again they don't
- 35:35Speaker 3: want to necessarily pick up a phone or call or
- 35:37Speaker 3: send an email or whatever, because you know, it's very
- 35:40Speaker 3: very impersonal and sometimes you know, people just like that
- 35:44Speaker 3: face to face thing and this computer age and internet
- 35:47Speaker 3: age we live in now, sometimes people want personal and
- 35:50Speaker 3: they want to be able to actually look someone in
- 35:51Speaker 3: the eye and ask questions. Talk about the different types
- 35:54Speaker 3: of informational booths that are going to be there.
- 35:57Speaker 8: Well, it surrounds about benefits and what year, what is
- 36:02Speaker 8: available to you. Before I forget Dave, we might as
- 36:05Speaker 8: well let people know where it's happening in the city
- 36:08Speaker 8: at Nitro, just you know, but it's at the Nitro
- 36:11Speaker 8: Wars Museum, which is at two zero zero three twentieth
- 36:15Speaker 8: Street in Nitro, the Nitro Wars Museum. It's right next
- 36:19Speaker 8: to right adjoining the Nitro Fire Department and City Hall
- 36:23Speaker 8: right there on twentieth Street. So you can come in
- 36:26Speaker 8: and get information and then take a tour of the museum.
- 36:29Speaker 8: But to answer your question. We will have folks there
- 36:33Speaker 8: from the banking institutions on what's available through for veterans
- 36:39Speaker 8: through various banks. In that scenario, we have health information
- 36:44Speaker 8: if people need screening, and they can sign them up
- 36:48Speaker 8: right there for not to do the screening there, but
- 36:50Speaker 8: to get them on the way for the various screening scenarios. Education.
- 36:57Speaker 8: There will be people there being able to answer questions
- 37:02Speaker 8: about what's available out there for more education. So when
- 37:07Speaker 8: we say veterans, you know, when we think of veterans,
- 37:09Speaker 8: we think of folks. You know, my age are a
- 37:12Speaker 8: little bit younger and when the dinosaurs were roaming for
- 37:16Speaker 8: me at least, But you know, we've got veterans now
- 37:19Speaker 8: that are in their twenties in their early thirties in
- 37:22Speaker 8: that scenario, and they're not getting the answers they need,
- 37:25Speaker 8: and they can get those answers there. Like I said,
- 37:29Speaker 8: there will be about fifteen vendors set up inside of
- 37:31Speaker 8: the Wars Museum, and there also will be the mobile
- 37:35Speaker 8: via Information truck that will be parked outside, so there'll
- 37:39Speaker 8: be two different places that you can get the information.
- 37:42Speaker 8: But it's just a lot in insurance where what veterans
- 37:47Speaker 8: can do getting the proper insurance. Again, like you said,
- 37:51Speaker 8: it's going to be face to face and you can
- 37:53Speaker 8: ask the questions right to a person and hopefully get
- 37:57Speaker 8: answers there or they will get back to you. We've
- 38:00Speaker 8: done this a couple of times. It's been very successful
- 38:04Speaker 8: and we're just opening it up again this Saturday from
- 38:07Speaker 8: eleven to one in Nitro at the Wards Museum.
- 38:10Speaker 3: Talking to Joe Stephens from the City of Nitro. Dave
- 38:12Speaker 3: Island Show in five eighty Live is broad toed part
- 38:14Speaker 3: by Morgan to Morgan, America's largest injury law firm. If
- 38:16Speaker 3: you're injured, visit for the People dot com. And again
- 38:18Speaker 3: we do want to reiterate Joe that people don't necessarily
- 38:21Speaker 3: have to be from Nitro. They can be. This is
- 38:23Speaker 3: just where you know you folks are nice enough to
- 38:25Speaker 3: host this event. I mean, if there's a veterans event
- 38:29Speaker 3: going on in Kenall Valley, chances are Nitro is involved
- 38:31Speaker 3: with it in some way. It's either being held there
- 38:33Speaker 3: or helping out with it. But this is open to
- 38:35Speaker 3: any veteran from anywhere. Anybody that's listening to us today,
- 38:38Speaker 3: they can come out to this event.
- 38:40Speaker 8: Without a doubt. David, and please that is the important thing.
- 38:45Speaker 8: This is not being done locally, but it's for everyone.
- 38:50Speaker 3: Indeed, I want to say thank you for the opportunity
- 38:53Speaker 3: to take part in the big Chile event that you
- 38:55Speaker 3: had a couple of weeks ago. Nitro had a great
- 38:59Speaker 3: time and it was a great, great turnout on a
- 39:01Speaker 3: beautiful Saturday afternoon for that.
- 39:03Speaker 8: Yeah, without a doubt, And you know, we were talking
- 39:05Speaker 8: about the various organizations that benefit from events like that.
- 39:10Speaker 8: We were able to contribute almost two thousand dollars to
- 39:14Speaker 8: Hospice Care and fifteen hundred dollars to West Virginia Canine
- 39:19Speaker 8: Search and Rescue and fifteen hundred dollars to the Putnam
- 39:23Speaker 8: County Animal Shelter. So almost five thousand dollars in donations
- 39:27Speaker 8: to three really worthwhile groups and a lot of people
- 39:33Speaker 8: had a lot of fun. And that's what it's all about,
- 39:35Speaker 8: a community event helping.
- 39:37Speaker 3: People exactly right, that's what we do here, you know,
- 39:40Speaker 3: and that's you know, kind of what that was the
- 39:42Speaker 3: theme of the show so far today because we talked
- 39:44Speaker 3: about the Drumstick Dash, which is happening next Thanksgiving or
- 39:48Speaker 3: next Thursday, which is Thanksgiving Day here in Charleston, and
- 39:51Speaker 3: then of course tomorrow we have our annual Turkey drop
- 39:54Speaker 3: on our parking on here. Both of those things at
- 39:56Speaker 3: benefiting Union Mission. And so it's kind of what we
- 39:58Speaker 3: do here in West Virginia. Joe, we help each other out.
- 40:01Speaker 8: David, your single is always out there to help people
- 40:03Speaker 8: and we appreciate it.
- 40:04Speaker 3: All right, again, give us the time and the place
- 40:07Speaker 3: and everything for Saturday's eventd of Nitro.
- 40:10Speaker 8: Nitro Wars Museum, which is right there on twentieth Street
- 40:13Speaker 8: next to the Fire Department in city Hall. It'll be
- 40:16Speaker 8: from eleven to one. Representatives representing the various VA Veterans
- 40:21Speaker 8: Administration agencies will be on hand and just come on
- 40:26Speaker 8: in and have the questions ready and they will be
- 40:30Speaker 8: able to help you.
- 40:31Speaker 3: All right, Joe Stevens from the City of Nitro. Before
- 40:33Speaker 3: you know it, we'll be talking about the Christmas parade.
- 40:35Speaker 3: But let's get through Thanksgiving first, Okay.
- 40:38Speaker 8: Be safe my friends, all right.

- 40:50Speaker 3: happening in Nitro on Saturday, and if you've got questions, comments, concerns,
- 40:54Speaker 3: this is a great opportunity, not just for people of Nitro,
- 40:57Speaker 3: but for anywhere you've had issues with benefits. You just
- 40:59Speaker 3: want to know what kind of benefits are available. And
- 41:02Speaker 3: you've heard me talk about my late father on the
- 41:03Speaker 3: show before. You know, my father retired from the coal
- 41:06Speaker 3: mines in two thousand and nine, and you know he
- 41:12Speaker 3: didn't know where to turn. I mean, he was a
- 41:14Speaker 3: Vietnam veteran. He starting to get sick, and so he
- 41:18Speaker 3: reached out to the VA and the Veterans administration just
- 41:21Speaker 3: went above and beyond to help him. And this was
- 41:22Speaker 3: the God bless Andy, the late Rudy Varney and those folks.
- 41:27Speaker 3: I'll give him a little shout out, even though Rudy
- 41:29Speaker 3: has dearly departed down in Logan County, just did a
- 41:32Speaker 3: great job in helping him. And those services are available.
- 41:35Speaker 3: Sometimes people have questions, comments, concerns. You can meet with
- 41:38Speaker 3: people in Nitro starting at eleven at the Wars Museum
- 41:41Speaker 3: on Saturday, absolutely free of charge. And you're actually talking
- 41:43Speaker 3: to a real person. You're not calling, you know, an
- 41:45Speaker 3: eight hundred number. You're not logging onto a website. There
- 41:48Speaker 3: is an actual live body there that can answer any
- 41:50Speaker 3: questions that you may have. Saturday eleven to one at
- 41:52Speaker 3: the Nitro Wars Museum it is nine to forty nine.
- 41:57Speaker 3: And while we're talking about veterans, I do want to
- 41:59Speaker 3: remind you what we are doing in conjunction with the
- 42:01Speaker 3: folks of Toyota of West Virginia. And you know, a
- 42:03Speaker 3: simple thank you can mean all the world. This month,
- 42:07Speaker 3: we meaning us the radio station here want to help
- 42:11Speaker 3: you and we want to help you say thank you
- 42:14Speaker 3: to some veterans. You can call three zero four nine
- 42:17Speaker 3: three five five zero zero eight, and again that's our

- 45:30Speaker 3: has to do from what I understand. And look, there's
- 45:33Speaker 3: a ton of traffic in Tyes Valley. We all know that,
- 45:35Speaker 3: and they do do the mobile units. I think one
- 45:37Speaker 3: of the auto part stores there on Taes Valley Road
- 45:39Speaker 3: does one from time to time. I'm not gonna pretend
- 45:41Speaker 3: to answer, or maybe I should just shut up. I'm
- 45:43Speaker 3: not going to answer for Tom Minturn and the folks
- 45:44Speaker 3: at Chick fil A, but I can tell you that
- 45:46Speaker 3: they have researched it over it. I first met Tom Minturn,
- 45:50Speaker 3: uh ten, No, not to quite ten years ago. I'm
- 45:53Speaker 3: gonna say maybe seven or eight years ago, and I
- 45:56Speaker 3: was in Jackson County and I met him at an
- 45:59Speaker 3: event there and we didn't know each other at all,
- 46:03Speaker 3: and we struck up a conversation and we're talking about
- 46:06Speaker 3: I said, you know the number one request we get,
- 46:08Speaker 3: and I'm very involved with the Chamber of Commerce and
- 46:10Speaker 3: other groups in Putnam County. I said, you know, one
- 46:12Speaker 3: of the number one requests we get, and that's for
- 46:14Speaker 3: a Chick fil A here. And he explained it to
- 46:16Speaker 3: me then, not saying it's not gonna happen. It's never
- 46:18Speaker 3: gonna happen, but there are various reasons. And it's not
- 46:21Speaker 3: because there's anything nefarious going on or anything like that.
- 46:24Speaker 3: It's just, you know, Putnam County has I think has
- 46:28Speaker 3: kind of got this reputation that a great numbers it's
- 46:34Speaker 3: right or wrong, and it's wrong. By the way, it's
- 46:37Speaker 3: known as a bedroom community. And you know, because so
- 46:40Speaker 3: many people used to leave Tays Valley Scott Depot area
- 46:45Speaker 3: seven o'clock in the morning to drive to Huntington or
- 46:47Speaker 3: drive to Charleston and would leave the county. That is
- 46:51Speaker 3: not the case any any longer because number one, people
- 46:53Speaker 3: are moving into Putnam County now in droves, but more
- 46:56Speaker 3: and more people are working from home as well. Now
- 46:58Speaker 3: not as many people are making that commute. I've drive
- 47:01Speaker 3: by sixty four every day and there's traffic out there,
- 47:04Speaker 3: but not nearly as much as what there used to
- 47:05Speaker 3: be because more and more people work from home now.
- 47:08Speaker 3: So I'll revisit that with Tom mint That's a long
- 47:10Speaker 3: way for me to go to say, I'll revisit that
- 47:12Speaker 3: with Tom Menturn at a future time. How's that Later?

- 47:51Speaker 3: Sean Zandiget from the City of South Charleston's gonna stop
- 47:53Speaker 3: by on the show tomorrow. The services for Steve Lipscomb,
- 47:57Speaker 3: the Elk minor killed in that mine Nicholas County last week,
- 48:00Speaker 3: have been set now. He was a graduate of Hoover's
- 48:03Speaker 3: class of two thousand and one, actually joined the Marines
- 48:06Speaker 3: after nine to eleven and was awarded a purple heart
- 48:09Speaker 3: visitation from one to four Saturday afternoon at Herbert Hoover
- 48:12Speaker 3: High with a funeral to follow at four o'clock. So
- 48:16Speaker 3: the Epstein files are gonna be released. Now, what exactly
- 48:20Speaker 3: that's going to look like is it had to be
- 48:22Speaker 3: determined to bill passed in the House for twenty seven
- 48:24Speaker 3: to one and was unanimous in the Senate, all the
- 48:27Speaker 3: West Virginia delegation voting to release the files, whatever they're
- 48:32Speaker 3: gonna look like. Brad writes about it this morning wv
- 48:34Speaker 3: Metronews dot com. Already over sixty two thousand documents have
- 48:37Speaker 3: been released, So now we wait to see if it's
- 48:39Speaker 3: going to be the gotcha moment that everybody wants it
- 48:42Speaker 3: to be. And let me just say this in the meantime,
- 48:48Speaker 3: to be honest with you, and I am not trying
- 48:49Speaker 3: to dismiss the Epstein files by any strategy the imagination,
- 48:52Speaker 3: all right, but a little more short term. Something that
- 48:55Speaker 3: happened A couple of things that happened in Washington yesterday
- 48:58Speaker 3: that really bothered me. One as our president referring to
- 49:01Speaker 3: someone as a piggy. Yeah, remember the last time that
- 49:05Speaker 3: Ronald Reagan did No, you don't remember the last time, Baracca, No,
- 49:09Speaker 3: you don't remember the last You get my point. I
- 49:12Speaker 3: had a real issue with that. Okay, that's number one.
- 49:16Speaker 3: Uh and uh and number two. Uh, he referred to
- 49:20Speaker 3: ABC News as I mean, he was very upset because
- 49:27Speaker 3: what's your name? Helped me out to TJ Mary Bruce,
- 49:29Speaker 3: Thank you for your help. Mary, Welcome. Mary Bruce of
- 49:33Speaker 3: ABC News dared to ask, you know the Saudi person
- 49:36Speaker 3: that was sitting there with the president about some past
- 49:39Speaker 3: bad things they had done, and he referred to them
- 49:41Speaker 3: as fake news, like it never happened. I mean, am
- 49:44Speaker 3: I mister president, and I'm not suffering from Trump derangement
- 49:47Speaker 3: syndrome like a lot of people are. I just want
- 49:49Speaker 3: our president to act like a president. That's uh, that's
- 49:51Speaker 3: the only thing I want. Republican or Democrat, that's that's
- 49:54Speaker 3: kind of what I want. If you don't want the question,
- 49:57Speaker 3: don't put him in the seat. It was fairly obvious
- 49:59Speaker 3: that was going to be a question from somebody. Of
- 50:01Speaker 3: course it was, so don't put him in the seat.
- 50:03Speaker 18: Yeah, if you don't want the question, And there was
- 50:04Speaker 18: nothing out of line about that question, and agencies point
- 50:09Speaker 18: to his involvement, So there you go. What do you
- 50:12Speaker 18: think about him referring to someone as a piggy. I
- 50:15Speaker 18: think it's disgusting. I think it's another example of who
- 50:19Speaker 18: Donald Trump is, and I think it's a shame because
- 50:23Speaker 18: thinks what this president can be if he had a
- 50:26Speaker 18: little tact and he was a little bit nicer. And
- 50:29Speaker 18: I know some people will say, come on, TJ, nice
- 50:30Speaker 18: guy's finished last I don't believe that. I think you
- 50:33Speaker 18: get more bees with honey. This guy doesn't have any
- 50:35Speaker 18: honey to spread or doesn't like to.
- 50:38Speaker 3: And he's done, TJ some incredible deals while being an office.
- 50:41Speaker 3: He really really has. He's broken some incredible things. But
- 50:45Speaker 3: the only thing that people talk about is the fact
- 50:47Speaker 3: that he refers to people as piggies and he doesn't
- 50:50Speaker 3: like a question which was an entirely fair question.
- 50:52Speaker 18: He refers to them as fake news. People don't care
- 50:56Speaker 18: what you know, what you've done until they know you can.
- 51:00Speaker 3: And in the meantime, speaking of fake news, I happened
- 51:02Speaker 3: to be in front of the TV around five o'clock
- 51:04Speaker 3: yesterday afternoon, turned on the five no mention about the
- 51:07Speaker 3: vote in the Epstein files.
- 51:09Speaker 18: So what happens when you read that bill that Congress
- 51:12Speaker 18: actually passed last night. If DOJ has quote unquote active investigations,
- 51:19Speaker 18: they cannot release some of these files because of those
- 51:21Speaker 18: active investigations. Quote unquote, that's why Trump didn't do this
- 51:25Speaker 18: on his own. He didn't want the pushback. That's why
- 51:29Speaker 18: he didn't release them on his own. It's an act
- 51:31Speaker 18: of Congress. Congress put that in the bill. Blame Congress,
- 51:34Speaker 18: Ladies and gentlemen, don't blame me. I just signed the
- 51:37Speaker 18: bill that Congress sent me. This thing's not going away.
- 51:40Speaker 18: No one's going to be happy. A lot of people
- 51:42Speaker 18: are going to be implicated. And look, if they did wrong,
- 51:44Speaker 18: they should be sure one out of percent. But people
- 51:46Speaker 18: would you agree with me that people mainly want the
- 51:48Speaker 18: gotcha moment out of it. Oh, I think that's a
- 51:50Speaker 18: huge driver in our society today. No, of course it
- 51:53Speaker 18: is all right without doubt.
- 51:54Speaker 3: Final final text has wrote it yesterday, applies even more
- 51:57Speaker 3: today in my opinions as a texture. Who a person
- 51:59Speaker 3: voted for us says a lot about their morals, if
- 52:01Speaker 3: you excuse pedophilia, fraud, sexual assault line in the question
- 52:04Speaker 3: for political power and advantage, that says a lot about
- 52:06Speaker 3: you as a person. Unfortunately, says a lot about West
- 52:08Speaker 3: Virginia as a whole. Final text today, hate to leave
- 52:10Speaker 3: it on that bright note. Thank you so much what
- 52:13Speaker 3: you got on the show. Real quick. At least they
- 52:14Speaker 3: voted no. I'll just leave it at that, all right.
- 52:17Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 52:17Speaker 3: I don't have my notes in front. I'll be back.
- 52:19Speaker 3: He'll do something. I'll be back later today with Metro
- 52:21Speaker 3: News mid days. Till then, have fun and love somebody
