- 0:04Welcome to Healthy, Happy, Wise, Wealthy, the podcast where we take
- 0:08people who have lived through some fire and now want to take that light
- 0:12and help guide others. I am your host, Mary Meyer. I'm so glad
- 0:16you're here. I want you to step away from today feeling like
- 0:20you know some things about how to heal, about how
- 0:23to move forward, about how to create the life that you want
- 0:27to live. Let's get started.
- 0:31Welcome back, everyone. We are at game Day Men's Health in South
- 0:34Reno with Michael Hataway, the owner. And this is
- 0:38actually our very first in person
- 0:41podcast. So thank you for being kind of the
- 0:45dummy to get us rolling. Yay me.
- 0:50Of course. I'm kidding. So I know Michael pretty well. We are in a
- 0:53networking group. The very first episode that we did was with Jaclyn. She was
- 0:57on that site, the Missing link network, which is how I know Michael.
- 1:01So you have been an entrepreneur for pretty
- 1:04much your whole career? Yeah, yeah, most of my
- 1:08life, actually. I mean, I've had intermittent jobs here and there.
- 1:12I grew up, you know, working a lot of blue collar stuff. But
- 1:16yeah, my introduction into entrepreneurship was kind of
- 1:20by accident. I wanted a Nintendo. I was 10.
- 1:23The Nintendo had come out, I wanted one. And
- 1:27we didn't have the money for that back then. So my mom was like, hey,
- 1:30well, if you make the money for half of it,
- 1:34I'll pay for the other half. And I was just like, well,
- 1:38you know, in my head I'm like, how do I make money? I'm 10, you
- 1:41know. So she, her idea was to drive me around
- 1:45to neighbors and her friends houses to do yard work, mow
- 1:49lawns, rake leaves, stuff like that. So
- 1:53that was kind of my introduction. I raised half the money.
- 1:57And didn't tell her. You didn't tell her? Didn't tell her.
- 2:01Because in my head As a 10 year old, I was like,
- 2:04well, if she pays for half of it, then she gets to tell me
- 2:08when I can and can't play it. So I never told
- 2:12her that I raised half the money and I just kept doing yard work until
- 2:15I raised all the money to buy it myself. And
- 2:18that's also when I discovered taxes,
- 2:23you know, So I didn't, I didn't have all the money at 10 because it
- 2:27was $99 at the time. And then
- 2:30plus tax. So I had $100, I'm gonna buy it. And then there
- 2:34was like 13 or $14 worth of tax that my mom had to
- 2:38pay for, but it was too late because it was in my hands, you know,
- 2:41and I was like just pay for the taxes. And she still got to tell
- 2:45me when I. When you could play it, could play. It and when I couldn't
- 2:47play it. She probably could have told you anyway, even if you had bought the
- 2:50whole thing. Yeah. But in my 10 year old mind, you know that in retrospect
- 2:53now, mind, yeah. I was going to have control. But
- 2:56that's. But that's where entrepreneurship started. That's so cool. Go mom. Yeah,
- 3:00go mom. Exactly. Yeah. She's taught me all about checking account, all that kind
- 3:04of stuff. She kind of educated me on money. So I love that a little
- 3:08bit. So then like right away you started
- 3:11off helping businesses grow their sales, is that.
- 3:17Well, after that, I mean, I did some,
- 3:21some other like landscaping stuff and whatnot. I owned a little small
- 3:25business in college, a buddy of mine, and I did. Helped pay
- 3:28for school, kind of helped get me through college,
- 3:32barely. And then after that I went into
- 3:36consulting. It was through a small firm up in Egan,
- 3:39Minnesota. And we were, it was a mixture. I don't know if
- 3:43we weren't employees. We were contracted in, that's how we were
- 3:47paid was $10.99. So we all, each of us, it
- 3:50was a very, very small group of us, each of us kind of had our
- 3:53own company, I guess, and we did consulting all
- 3:56across the US with health clubs. And then I
- 4:00got into, you know, after years of doing that, I got into the ownership side
- 4:05of health clubs and then I grew that to
- 4:09trying to remember, I don't know, 25ish health clubs
- 4:13that I owned over a span of about maybe 15 years or
- 4:17so. That's a lot. Yeah. And also got into a nutrition
- 4:21franchise, did some other consulting stuff on the side.
- 4:25And let me think. Then Covid
- 4:28hit, kind of put a stop to everything. And I did some
- 4:32consulting after Covid and then got into
- 4:36this, not too long afterwards, found this actually just kind of fell in my
- 4:39lap. An old connection from the fitness industry. Okay. Kind of
- 4:43gave me a call and was like, hey, what are you doing these days? It's
- 4:46like just some like consulting. What's going on? And he told me about this.
- 4:50Absolutely loved it. It was kind of the next evolutionary step for me
- 4:56because I was in health and wellness, so to speak, on the fitness side of
- 4:59things. Which is a much simpler operation, by the way,
- 5:03than a clinic, because this is, than a clinic, because this is medical. So this
- 5:06is a whole other animal. But went
- 5:10from, yeah, from that to this, which was like,
- 5:14in my head, it was like, that's the next Step. You know, I'm taking a
- 5:17step up. I'm getting into the medical side of health and wellness,
- 5:21and, yeah, it's been amazing since. I love it. Well, that fits you. The health
- 5:25and wellness, because you are always out doing
- 5:28snowboarding and biking and trout fishing and camping
- 5:32and hiking and backpacking. And backpacking and triathlons and.
- 5:36Yeah, I just. I do it all. Very, very active person. I always have
- 5:39been. I'm sure there have been some
- 5:43lazy parts of my life where I wasn't quite as active, but,
- 5:47you know, I mean, in one way or another, since I was a kid, I've
- 5:50been extremely active. Started out in sports. I've been a dedicated
- 5:55gym worker outer guy since I was. Is that
- 5:59the technical. Yeah, that is. That's the medical term. That's the medical term.
- 6:03Gym worker outer guy. Yeah, that's the medical term. So I learned that when I
- 6:06got into this. Oh, that's awesome. Yeah. So
- 6:10commercial. That's a great gym worker outer guy. Yep. I'm gonna use that
- 6:14in my next one. Thank you. Good. Excellent. Excellent. So,
- 6:18yeah, I've been active my entire life, so, yeah. This kind of
- 6:22also fits into
- 6:26the longevity of staying active throughout your
- 6:29life. I mean, keeping your hormone levels in check
- 6:33and optimize helps you feel younger. Helps you
- 6:37in just many ways as you continue to
- 6:41age, you know, in years. Lapse
- 6:45around the sun. Lapse around the sun. But this
- 6:49helps keep you. Keep you young. It's kind of a.
- 6:53Kind of a fountain of youth, so to speak, a little bit.
- 6:57So I want to hear all about it, but I have one more question on
- 7:00entrepreneurship. Yes. So you have bought into
- 7:03franchises? Yep, Yep. I've always. I mean, most of
- 7:07what I've done has been in franchises. I mean, when I was younger, before I
- 7:10got into franchising, I did other stuff that was just, you know, my own
- 7:14or my friend of mine and, you know, whatever I was doing before. But
- 7:18yeah, franchises I've liked because it's. That's plug and play,
- 7:21you know, I mean, they've got everything set up, so it's less effort
- 7:25from start. You know, idea, start,
- 7:30build, open, and then go through a bunch of trial and
- 7:33error after you open because you thought you had some things figured
- 7:37out or you thought you had the right systems in place. Whereas a franchise typically
- 7:41has put in the legwork because they have to have proof of
- 7:45concept before they open. Right. Or not before
- 7:49they open, before they franchise, they have to have proof of concept. So they go
- 7:52through a lot of. A majority of the trial and error. There's always going to
- 7:55be some as the franchise grows and as things continue to move forward,
- 7:59there's always going to be some trial and error. But they put in a lot
- 8:02of the time, a lot of the effort to get past a lot of that
- 8:05to have a system for you that's all packaged up in a box. You open
- 8:08it up, you plug it in and you play. So plug and play nice
- 8:12and they save you a lot of time, energy
- 8:16and money. Of course, there's always
- 8:20an argument to that. People will say, yeah, but you're paying franchise
- 8:24fees. Well, yeah, but I also gained back a lot
- 8:28of time that I didn't have to spend putting this concept together
- 8:32that to me I can always make more money. I can't make more time.
- 8:36Yeah, that makes a lot of sense to me to do it like that for
- 8:39sure. So we are here, if you're watching on YouTube, we're here at game
- 8:42day Men's health. And you can see that it is
- 8:46a man cave environment. Yeah, yeah,
- 8:50yeah. That was the, a big part of the
- 8:54concept. The guy that created it wanted it to feel
- 8:58less like a medical clinic and more of like
- 9:01kind of like a man cave or guys hangout spot. So
- 9:05he, you know, they, they worked with a crew I think
- 9:09too. I don't know the details of the back end of the story
- 9:13but you know, they, they built it to be more comfortable,
- 9:16more inviting for men and less intimidating. Like when
- 9:20you walk into a medical, nobody likes going to the doctor. People don't want to
- 9:23go into the dentist. They don't want to go to the doctor, they don't go
- 9:25anywhere that's clinic y feel. And you walk in and
- 9:29there's scrubs and everything. We still wear scrubs, but they're a little more
- 9:32fashion oriented to the decor of the place.
- 9:36And so yeah, I just kind of take that clinical look
- 9:40and clinical feel out of it. Make it more comfortable. Yeah. And men, I
- 9:43don't think in general, men probably are less apt to go to the doctor than
- 9:47women. Yeah, yeah, that's true. Men,
- 9:51generally speaking, men are very much,
- 9:55very much less health
- 9:58aware. They'll go to the gym and they'll work out,
- 10:02but that is not health.
- 10:06That is a part of health. But they don't do regular
- 10:10checkups. They don't want to do labs, they don't do blood work. They don't want
- 10:13to go get their hormone levels checked. Although now that the information
- 10:17is out there on this and you know, it's all over the place now. So
- 10:20People, it's. It's front of mind. People hear TRT all the time.
- 10:24You can Google or do any search engine. Not promoting
- 10:28Google. You can do any search
- 10:31engine and you know, and type in symptoms. Like if you're. As you're aging
- 10:35and if guys have any type of symptoms,
- 10:39whatever it may be, and they can type it in and something will tie it,
- 10:42hey, maybe it's low testosterone. So low t trt,
- 10:46you know, which is just testosterone replacement therapy. Those terms are very
- 10:49common and they're becoming even more common. So the knowledge is
- 10:53out there. You can't really get around it just by
- 10:57even typing in your symptoms. Hey, this isn't happening. I can't lose
- 11:00this body fat. I can't build this lean muscle. You like
- 11:04my typing here? I do. I really like your typing. I feel like it's a
- 11:07very good imagery of typing. I can't figure out.
- 11:12I like it a lot. So testosterone replacement therapy is a big
- 11:16cornerstone of what you do here. Yes.
- 11:20Yeah. So we specialize in two things.
- 11:23Testosterone replacement therapy and then permanent solution ED
- 11:27treatments for men. Now we can
- 11:31prescribe the pills, you know, that you take every day or that you take when
- 11:34you want to perform. But that's just an ongoing,
- 11:38temporary solution that over time, as you age, may not work
- 11:42as well because it becomes more of a blood flow. Can become more of
- 11:46a blood flow issue. So we have more permanent solutions for that.
- 11:50So those are the two things we specialize in. But we also have
- 11:54a pretty large peptide menu. If you don't know
- 11:57what peptides are. Yes, explain peptides. I just got that question earlier
- 12:01today. So peptides are.
- 12:05So there's an amino acid, which is the single unit in
- 12:08a protein chain. A protein chain is 50amino acids or
- 12:12longer. So there's a gap between a single amino
- 12:15acid and a 50 chain protein. And that's where
- 12:19peptides fall in. They're all in here. So they're shorter chain
- 12:23protein molecules or proteins that have kind of
- 12:26more specific functions in the body. So if you. Depending on what
- 12:30your goals are, we probably have a peptide for that.
- 12:34So there's peptides for all kinds of things, from cognitive to
- 12:38building muscle to building large muscle, lean muscle, burning body fat,
- 12:42sexual performance, mood enhancement. I mean, there's
- 12:45peptides for all kinds of stuff. Wow. This is not really an
- 12:49area that I had heard a lot about until I met you. So to
- 12:52me it was new. But you're like, no, everybody knows about this except for Mary.
- 12:56Everybody knows about this. Everybody knows about this except For Mary. So this is not
- 12:59the first time I've heard that. Yeah. Erika in fact, tells me all
- 13:03the time that I am so far down the line of knowledge of how much
- 13:07I've learned. No, I'm just kidding.
- 13:12Yeah. So peptides. And so sometimes women come in for
- 13:15peptides too. Like they can come in. Yep. Yes.
- 13:19Actually, yeah, we have female clients come in for peptides. We also do the
- 13:23GLP1s, which are kind of like the weight loss drugs like
- 13:26Semaglutide, Tirzepatide, Retatrutide.
- 13:31The trade names are like Ozempic and Manjaro. And
- 13:35I think one of them is called Wegovy or something like that. I don't remember
- 13:39the trade names all that well, but we also do those. So we have
- 13:43female clients that come in for GLP1s.
- 13:46We're offering hair restoration soon.
- 13:50I haven't started putting that out there yet because I wanted to be patient zero,
- 13:54you know, see what the results were. Patient zero on hair. Patient zero on
- 13:57hair restoration. I'd like to keep the hair.
- 14:01Keeping hair is a nice thing. Yeah, I think so. If it's possible. If it's
- 14:05possible, yeah. So so far it's working. I have a lot of,
- 14:09like, if I were to just let the little short ones come in, I would
- 14:12have like a Mohawk. Like, there's a lot of new growth all through here. Like
- 14:16they're all about an inch to an inch and a half long. What are
- 14:20you doing? What is it with the hair loss or hair growth? It's PRP
- 14:23injections, platelet rich plasma. So we do a blood draw, we spin it
- 14:27down. We have centrifuges in the lab. We spin it down, we can
- 14:30inject it into the scalp. We can also use copper peptide
- 14:35mixture with that. A copper peptide mixture with it?
- 14:39Yeah, to help with
- 14:43hair regrowth as well. So there's other peptides that can be
- 14:47used and we also have access to like finasteride,
- 14:50minoxidil and all the other. Keep
- 14:54your hair chemicals or whatever. Chemicals.
- 14:57Medications. Medications, yeah. And neither
- 15:01one of us are medical people. But you know
- 15:05this because you own the place and you've learned all the
- 15:09stuff. Well, the irony is I actually went to university for
- 15:12medical. I started out in medical school and then wound up
- 15:17in the world of business and marketing and promotions and entrepreneurship,
- 15:21which is the. I majored in everything. That's the one thing I didn't major in.
- 15:25And that's what I wound up doing. And so it's just interesting that things have
- 15:28come back full circle to where I'm now back into something medical, which is
- 15:32what I originally started out wanting to do. Yeah. Yeah. That's
- 15:35awesome. Yeah. So having guys come here because this
- 15:39isn't also, you don't take insurance. So there's reasons for
- 15:43that, lots of reasons for that. Insurance is a nightmare to deal with, first
- 15:47and foremost. And secondly, they deny,
- 15:52like testosterone replacement therapy through an insurance company is extremely difficult.
- 15:55I mean, I'm sure there's people that have figured out the
- 15:59loopholes and how to get around that. But you're still dealing with
- 16:03insurance companies that you know will try to skimp on paying
- 16:06you or lower the rates or change the rates or you know that
- 16:10they're going to pay you. So
- 16:14we just stay away from it. I mean, everything
- 16:17that I know about insurance, especially speaking to a lot of the guys that have
- 16:21come in that have tried to go through their insurance, they've all been denied. I
- 16:24mean, that's why they come to us. They're like, well, you know, I tried doing
- 16:27this to my insurance and they just keep denying me because they will.
- 16:32I'm sure that's frustrating too. Like you're trying to take care of it and then
- 16:35it's trying to. Yeah, trying to do something. And maybe it's
- 16:38not preemptive because you can't really prescribe testosterone until your levels are
- 16:42low, but you're trying to recoup and you
- 16:46know, fix an issue that you're having
- 16:50hormonally. And your insurance company's like, yeah, you're fine, you're not getting
- 16:53that. So they will continue to
- 16:57get you to do blood work once a month for just months
- 17:01on end and then just continue to deny you because you're not below
- 17:05a certain number that they say is
- 17:09treatable. And that number is usually extremely low.
- 17:14And sometimes they'll still deny you based on what your age is. I mean, so
- 17:17insurance company, they're just a nightmare to work with on both ends, like
- 17:21on the back end for us and for the patient. So
- 17:25we're more around convenience. You come in, you
- 17:29know, you get a quick blood draw, we take your samples, we spin
- 17:33them down in the in house lab. While your samples
- 17:37are being spun down, you start your medical chart with a provider in the back
- 17:40office. The door shuts, very private conversation.
- 17:44One of the M.A.s will call in the numbers and as long as everything
- 17:48looks good, we can prescribe on the spot and give you your first injection before
- 17:51you leave. So in about a 45 minute window of
- 17:55time, you have come in, done Blood work, gotten your labs and gotten
- 17:59your first dose of testosterone, and you're on your way to feeling better.
- 18:03And testosterone or hormonal optimization
- 18:07with insurance, it can take months and
- 18:11sometimes up to two years of them just consistently
- 18:15fighting and trying to deny you. And a
- 18:18majority of the time, they will not cover you. Yeah,
- 18:22that would be very frustrating, and I'm sure it is. Most men
- 18:26would find it very helpful just to just get it done. And it's something checked
- 18:30off your list and you're not. Yeah, it's not being dragged up forever and ever
- 18:33and ever, so. Well, it goes back to my comment earlier. You can.
- 18:36You can make more money. You can't really make more time. So,
- 18:41you know, getting in and getting things done quickly and
- 18:44efficiently, you know, in 45 minutes, as
- 18:48opposed to nine months, a year, a year and a half, whatever your
- 18:51insurance company. And that's given that they evade, eventually approve
- 18:55you. Yeah, it's. It's in. At
- 18:59least in my head, it's worth it to skimp out on the
- 19:03insurance. Come in, get it done, get going. Yeah,
- 19:07well, and this, you know, the whole issue of this isn't exactly family friendly in
- 19:11case anyone wants to pop off real fast, but, you
- 19:15know, it's like, you know, men's plumbing. Right. So it's. It's a. It's a.
- 19:19It's this thing that guys probably aren't going to want to talk about
- 19:23to anyone, you know, so to have a place that they can come and I'm
- 19:27sure there's some shame around it or they don't feel comfortable with it or they
- 19:30want to keep it private or whatever that might be.
- 19:35Yeah, that's a big part of why this is a
- 19:38men's health clinic. And, you
- 19:42know. Yeah, there's definitely a lot of men that want to keep it private. They
- 19:45don't. They're not
- 19:49accustomed to talking about these things or they're just shy about it or whatever. And
- 19:52then you have the other guys that will just blast everybody with everything, which is
- 19:56awesome, you know, because it's just fun to talk to those guys. But.
- 20:00Yeah, so this does kind of. You're
- 20:04not a man walking into a clinic with whatever issue you may have,
- 20:08surrounded by women and kids and whoever else
- 20:12is in there. And you're in there for what you consider to be a very
- 20:15private matter. If anything, you'll come in. There's other guys here.
- 20:19And you know what? They probably are in here. They could be in here for
- 20:21the same issue as you. So this does
- 20:25give it a more Comfortable
- 20:28atmosphere for men, especially men, you know, that want
- 20:32to remain very private about what's going on.
- 20:36And I think it probably takes away some of the shame, too. Let's just talk
- 20:39about it, you know, like, this is a thing that happens. So it's like, you
- 20:42know, it's not a comfortable thing to talk about. Women have things that we don't
- 20:44want to talk about either, that we're going through. So I'm assuming you're talking about
- 20:48E.D. Yeah. Yeah. So, yes, most
- 20:52men do not want to talk about that, because, let's face it, that's where.
- 20:55That's what most men, I think a majority of men attach their.
- 20:59Their manhood to is, you know, not having that issue.
- 21:03So when that starts to go away or when that issue starts to happen, there
- 21:07is a loss of sense of self, and there is a shame
- 21:10to it, and there is an embarrassment, and there I don't want to
- 21:14talk about, like, how can I? And so there's, you know, searching online to do
- 21:18things privately and everything. And that makes a lot of sense.
- 21:21But this, our Game Day here,
- 21:25does do exactly that. It keeps things very private. It's not going to be
- 21:28a crowded office, and even if it is, you know, we have plenty of
- 21:32chairs you can sit in as you're waiting. You're not forced to have a
- 21:36conversation out in the open about what's going on. You go into a
- 21:39back room, the door is shut. In a sound block, no one can hear what's
- 21:43going on. You're talking with a medical professional. We deal with this stuff on a
- 21:47daily basis, so there's no shame talking to any of us.
- 21:51So, yeah, it's. It's interesting because I'll have long conversations
- 21:55on the phone with guys when they call in about all of this, and even
- 21:59on the phone, they're a little timid to kind of talk about these things. They
- 22:02open up as the conversation goes on, and they're like, all right,
- 22:06yeah, I'm ready. I'm coming in on, you know, whatever day it may be. I'm
- 22:09coming in Tuesday at 12. And then they just never show up
- 22:13because there's such a shame and embarrassment around it. And it's like,
- 22:16it is so much more common of an issue
- 22:20than they realize. Like, there are so many men that
- 22:24have the same situation that may be even worse than your situation.
- 22:29And statistically speaking, across, you know, the span of men,
- 22:32it's. It's not that uncommon. Yeah, well, I think men in
- 22:36general, too, they don't want to necessarily talk about anything. Yeah. You
- 22:40know, that's a serious matter. So to have a place where they can come and
- 22:44talk about something that's, you know, also, this isn't always
- 22:47serious. There's a lot of jokes that can be made, and we make. I'm just
- 22:51being. Now I'm really being silly, but go for it. You know, Michael and I
- 22:54will crack jokes about it, and he will, when he talks about it, some crack
- 22:57jokes about it, because, you know, we can crack jokes, but at the same
- 23:01time, if you're dealing with it, it's not funny. So crack jokes
- 23:05to yourself and lighten up a little bit. And it's just
- 23:09something that is part of humanity that people go through, men
- 23:13go through. It's interesting from a marketing perspective, too,
- 23:16with. Right. Because I've helped you market, so I know that part of it
- 23:20well. Because you like, you know, our idea and talking
- 23:24with my marketing team, our idea was like, hey, you know, maybe if we use
- 23:27some humor and kind of lighten the mood surrounding it, people will feel
- 23:31more comfortable. And. Yeah, no, I just. It's. I don't know.
- 23:34There's. There's probably some men that. That works with,
- 23:38and there's other men that. That doesn't work with, and there's some men that are
- 23:41like, I don't know about this, and maybe I should. So it's just, you know,
- 23:44because everybody's different. There's no one size fits all. And that's another reason we're
- 23:48concierge medicine, is we
- 23:51cater treatment to the individual based on what their labs are.
- 23:55We check labs frequently throughout. Especially through your first year. We want to
- 23:59make sure everything is looking good. Nothing's being negatively affected, so.
- 24:04And everything is a case by case basis. Like what I started
- 24:07t this year. I'm 47, about to
- 24:11be 48 in a month. It's okay. You're gonna get over it. Yeah.
- 24:15You'll get through it. Yep, yep, I'll be fine. But I
- 24:19started T this year because my levels were low enough
- 24:22to treat. So I was like, all right, let's do this. And
- 24:26I am on a completely different dosing regimen than most
- 24:30of our guys because of how my body
- 24:35metabolizes or reacts to the testosterone. So I'm on
- 24:38a different dose. So everybody can be a little different. It's not a one
- 24:42size fits all. And that's part of the concierge. You know, get ahold of us
- 24:46when you. When you need. We pay close attention. We adjust things,
- 24:49titrate up or down your dosing to make sure that your body is
- 24:53running optimally on whatever dose
- 24:57that does that for you. And a lot of this is for energy. It's just
- 25:00like stamina energy, vitality, that kind of thing. Yeah, stamina,
- 25:03energy. I mean, not necessarily E.D., so just, you know, just to
- 25:07kind of have the levels correct and then you're going to feel. Although it can
- 25:10enhance performance there regardless. I mean, even if
- 25:14you're someone that doesn't think you have E,D,, maybe just over time,
- 25:18you just don't notice the difference. And then you get on testosterone, you're
- 25:22like, oh, yeah, I forgot that it performs that well.
- 25:26So there's that. But yeah, I mean, it's energy. It's
- 25:29maintaining lean muscle, building lean muscle.
- 25:33Not like bodybuilding type.
- 25:37We don't overdose people on testosterone.
- 25:41Our goal is optimization. We're not looking to
- 25:45overdose people because I've had quite a few
- 25:48guys ask, well, am I going to get angry? Am I going to roid
- 25:52rage? And I'm like, no, that's not what we're doing here. Let's do Hulk stuff.
- 25:56Yeah, that's like. I'm like, that is not what we do. We do
- 25:59not overdose testosterone. Wouldn't that be a fun
- 26:03movie idea, is to just have Hulk just burst out of Game
- 26:07Day? I don't know. I don't know how
- 26:10positive of a message that would be. Come to our clinic,
- 26:14you'll get big and dumb, you know? Yeah, so. So it's opposite of that.
- 26:18Yeah. These are just jokes, right?
- 26:21Yeah, so I. Yeah, so I've had that
- 26:25conversation with quite a few men about, like, no, that's not what we
- 26:29do. What you may notice is your mood may improve. Like,
- 26:33you'll just feel better because anxiety and depression are two big
- 26:36symptoms that can happen with low testosterone moodiness. You know, as
- 26:40you're going through manopause, you can be very
- 26:44moody. So you're just moods all over the place. You're angry and
- 26:47cranky and grumpy and this can actually elevate your
- 26:51mood and things don't bother you as much. You're just like, yeah, I'm good.
- 26:56So you're in a better mood, your energy levels up.
- 26:59And tell us about manopause. Manopause? Yeah.
- 27:04You basically all, it's only one men. Instead of
- 27:07menopause, which is multiple, not men. Yes, multiple, not men, which
- 27:11is. I don't know why it's not called women. Women. Women-apause yeah, and
- 27:15then just men-apause for the men, but apparently. I don't know,
- 27:19someone. No one asked us. Someone in the naming,
- 27:22even asked her opinion, even a little bit, which is their fault. Yeah,
- 27:26yeah, that's. That's true. And it's not my fault, so. Not your fault. So manopause.
- 27:30Manopause is basically the same thing.
- 27:34Okay. I am not going to equate the two. I'm not going to say that
- 27:38they're the same thing. At their core level, they
- 27:42are, because you're going through hormonal changes. But women,
- 27:46I think, have a much tougher time with menopause. But men
- 27:50do go through something similar. It's like menopause light kind of,
- 27:53but you're still going through mood changes, your weight gain and
- 27:57muscle loss, and, you know, sexual function
- 28:01can diminish. There's a lot of things that can happen as
- 28:04you're going through that. I mean, you basically go through two
- 28:08puberties in your lifetime. The first is when you're a teenager and your
- 28:11hormone levels are coming in and spiking. And the
- 28:15second one is later in life as they're a little more gradually
- 28:19diminishing. So you're. And you'll go through a phase where it affects you
- 28:22more. Like a period during that time where it affects you a little more and
- 28:26you feel it more. That's generally when men start to come in, when they really
- 28:30start to feel it and they don't understand what's happening. They're like, I don't know
- 28:33what's going on. I just don't feel like myself. I have no energy. I don't
- 28:36enjoy the things I used to enjoy. I don't have the motivation to go, you
- 28:40know, cycling or mountain bike or whatever it is they like to do. I don't
- 28:43have to go play Frisbee, golf, whatever your sport is. I don't have the
- 28:46motivation to go out. And when I do, I don't really enjoy it as much
- 28:49as I used to. So, you know, a lack of life
- 28:53fulfillment or life enjoyment can be a big thing that brings people in.
- 28:57Sexual dysfunction can bring people in. You know, the
- 29:00moodiness. Some guys, wives bring them in, like,
- 29:04fix him. You know. Yeah, because they're
- 29:08grumpy and they're moody and they don't realize it. So. So some guys.
- 29:12Wives. Or wives bring them in because they're like, they're.
- 29:15Well, because grizzly bears right now. Yeah, because they're. Yeah, they're grumpy and they're
- 29:19big. You know, they're big angry bears. And so their wives will.
- 29:23We've had guys that. Their wives bring them in, come with them,
- 29:27because they're like, yeah, something's up with him. Fix him. Or I've had
- 29:31the wives call in because I take, you know, quite a lot of the calls
- 29:34on certain days, and I've spoken with a lot of the wives, and they're like,
- 29:38I want my husband to come see you guys. I'm like, yeah, let's schedule it
- 29:40up. Does he know that you're scheduling it? So I
- 29:44feel like that's such a thing with wives scheduling for their husbands. Yeah, that's a
- 29:47thing. Yeah, that's a real thing. Yeah. Yeah. So,
- 29:51yeah, there's multiple reasons that. That men come in.
- 29:55They may notice the changes themselves, do a little googling or
- 29:59binging or whatever. Other chatgpting and figure out that it's
- 30:02low testosterone. And so they come
- 30:06in on their own or it could be the wives. So. Yeah. And
- 30:10sometimes you guys do vitamin therapies also? We do. We do have
- 30:14vitamin therapies. The most popular ones. Kind of B12.
- 30:17Men aren't really all that into vitamins that I've discovered, or
- 30:21maybe we're just not. Maybe we're just not pushing them enough. But,
- 30:25yeah, we have tons of vitamins and vitamin therapies
- 30:28we can do. But B12 seems to be the most requested from
- 30:32men. I feel like that's the most Known. If your B12
- 30:36gets up, then you have more energy and that kind of thing. That's a good
- 30:40mood enhancer. Energy. Yeah. And it also helps with
- 30:43immune system. Awesome. As we're coming into the fall and flu season.
- 30:47Guys, guys, come on. Get your B12. Get your
- 30:51B12s in here. That's awesome. Well, thanks for joining
- 30:55us today, and I hope that you do more
- 30:58active group stuff. This might be a good time
- 31:02to ask the audience, do you think Michael should
- 31:06lead some bicycling, mountain
- 31:10cycling? Bicycling, Bicycling, mountain cycling.
- 31:13I don't. What is it? What do you call it? I want to put
- 31:17together some activity groups for Game
- 31:21Day Men's Health. What a great idea. One of them will be for
- 31:24cycling, road biking. One of them gravel biking. We can do gravel
- 31:28biking. My personal favorite, mountain biking. I'm going to put together a mountain biking
- 31:31riding group, a running group, a snowboarding group, a
- 31:35skiing group, a hiking group, backpack. Just any.
- 31:39Because I do all of these things. I'm like, well, there's. I know there's. This
- 31:42is an outdoor enthusiast area. So
- 31:46I want to put together these groups for men that are coming in and,
- 31:50you know, not only are they getting their testosterone levels up, but now they'll
- 31:54have a group to relate to. They can hang out with guys that are interested
- 31:57in the same things they're interested in. As they're feeling better and as they're becoming
- 32:01more active again. They can do their favorite
- 32:04activities with guys that are like minded.
- 32:08So what's the difference between gravel cycling and mountain
- 32:12or road? Like, I've never heard. I've heard mountain
- 32:17and road. So road cycling. Everybody knows road cycling. I
- 32:21mean, Tour de France, Lance Armstrong, I'm dating myself
- 32:24here. I don't even know who's popular right now in
- 32:28road cycling. I don't know either. Gravel biking is
- 32:33in between mountain biking and road
- 32:36biking. So you can ride on the road, but
- 32:40you can also go off road. But you probably don't want
- 32:44to go as rugged a terrain as you can do
- 32:47on a mountain bike because most gravel bikes are like a road bike
- 32:51with just bigger, fatter, knobbier tires, a little bit more sturdy of a frame.
- 32:55Okay, but they look like a road bike, but they have
- 32:58thicker tires. Wider, thicker, wider
- 33:02tires, and they'll be a little knobby for, you know, off piste. That's
- 33:06snowboarding or skiing off the road. Okay.
- 33:10Whereas a mountain bike, you'll have, you know, a hard tail with
- 33:13front forks, or you'll have full suspension. And those are
- 33:17really sturdy frames. And they have big, you
- 33:21know, much larger tires. Knobby. You can get 2.5s on there and,
- 33:25you know, fly down, like go climb a mountain and then fly down the most
- 33:29rugged. You know, you can do big jumps because you have full
- 33:32suspension. So you'll absorb. And mountain biking is my
- 33:36favorite. I mean, I love it all. But I will be honest, gravel
- 33:40biking is my least favorite because it just beats the hell out of you
- 33:43when you get off road because you don't have any suspension.
- 33:48It's still fun, though. But if I were personally to rank them.
- 33:51Mountain biking, road biking, gravel biking. All right, good.
- 33:56Thanks for sharing that because I did not know, but they all sound fun.
- 33:59Mary. Probably nothing I'll do, but, you know, everyone knows that. Everyone
- 34:03knows that. Again, I'm the last on the. On the food chain.
- 34:06Yeah. So I think we should ask the listeners
- 34:10to rank which ones they would enjoy most if they would
- 34:13enjoy road biking, mountain biking, skiing,
- 34:16snowboarding, hiking, hiking, running, backpacking. Running,
- 34:20backpacking. If you did all of the groups and you were running all these
- 34:23groups, you can't run them all. But which, which would be your favorite to start
- 34:27with? Where should we start? When I say we, I mean
- 34:31Michael, because I'm not going to have anything to do with all of this. Well,
- 34:33I mean, we could start with probably cycle,
- 34:37just regular cycling, road riding, just
- 34:41because that's the easiest
- 34:44accessible. Okay. So we, you know, I could just say,
- 34:48hey, everybody, meet up at the clinic at 5pm or
- 34:51whatever and bring your bike. Yeah. We
- 34:55all hop on and we, you know, go, go out and go climb McCarran for
- 34:59the warm up or whatever level,
- 35:03you know, riding group it is. Go, you know, ride around. But that would
- 35:06probably be the easiest to start up. Mountain biking is more destination,
- 35:10you know, meet me at the trailhead of whatever in Mount Rose wilderness or
- 35:14over in, you know, south or wherever it may be. So road bike
- 35:18that either that or running. Those two would be the easiest
- 35:22to start up because they're the simplest. I love this
- 35:25especially for men because women I think are probably a little bit better at getting
- 35:29together and, and organizing and. Well, just getting together.
- 35:32Yeah. And chatting and then we talk about all the stuff we don't want,
- 35:36we don't like. Yeah. But men are not very good at that and that's probably
- 35:39would be very therapeutic for you all. Yeah. You feel good. You come to Game
- 35:43Day,, you feel good, then you go out, you do your, your cycle group and
- 35:46then you have, you have guys and then you can chat about stuff.
- 35:50Yeah. Whatever that stuff is that they're chatting. I will not
- 35:53serve anyone beer out of the clinic when we're done. I won't do
- 35:57that. Okay. Absolutely not. We wouldn't. You would not do
- 36:01that. That would not be a thing you do. No.
- 36:05Okay. Well, thank you. Appreciate you doing this. Appreciate you doing it
- 36:09live in person too. So thank you. Not live.
- 36:13We're not live. Thank you for doing this. I guess live and in person. To
- 36:16me I just put the words together and they. It doesn't. It means nothing to
- 36:19get in person. Yeah. All right. Michael
- 36:23Hataway, Game day Men's Health South Reno.
- 36:26Right by Tahoe. That's right. That's right.
