- 1:27Speaker 6: the show and another rainy day as we kick off
- 1:30Speaker 6: fall officially today. Metro News meteorologist Brian Hughes, who, by
- 1:33Speaker 6: the way, is going to join me Later in the show,
- 1:35Speaker 6: says we're going to have showers and storms off and
- 1:37Speaker 6: on today. Temps of a low 70s. Rain continues tonight
- 1:40Speaker 6: and tomorrow. Lows of a low 60s. Tonight, highs of
- 1:42Speaker 6: a low 70s again tomorrow. By Thursday, we should move
- 1:45Speaker 6: the rain out. High around 79. Friday, great looking day.
- 1:49Speaker 6: Temps around 70 and looking good for high school football
- 1:52Speaker 6: Friday night and for Saturday as well. Of course, Marshall
- 1:55Speaker 6: has their homecoming game on Saturday. Sunny, high in the
- 1:58Speaker 6: upper 70s. 60s for Saturday. Pretty good stuff. As I said,
- 2:01Speaker 6: Brian's going to join me later in the show. And
- 2:03Speaker 6: you can download the Metro News television app for Brian
- 2:05Speaker 6: and his team of weather pros. Follow along on social
- 2:08Speaker 6: media as well. Speaking of media, in the world of media,
- 2:11Speaker 6: shots fired from the president as he said he would
- 2:14Speaker 6: be banning some media outlets, CNN, MSNOW, and Politico, among them,
- 2:19Speaker 6: from covering him at the White House. And now, some
- 2:22Speaker 6: other entities have come out, including Fox News, siding with
- 2:26Speaker 6: the folks that were banned. So, uh, We're going to
- 2:28Speaker 6: talk to big brother, Burke Allen, about that. He, of course,
- 2:31Speaker 6: of Allen Media Strategies. We've got several things I want
- 2:34Speaker 6: to get to in the news and your calls and texts.
- 2:36Speaker 6: Guarantee Bank Hotline, 304-345-5858. Tony DeTaylor, text 304-935-5008.
- 2:43Speaker 7: Welcome.
- 2:44Speaker 6: And now our good buddy from the city of Nitro,
- 2:46Speaker 6: Joe Stevens. Good morning, sir. Welcome to the show.
- 2:49Speaker 8: Good morning, Dave. And I bet them boys.
- 2:52Speaker 6: How about them cowboys?
- 2:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:55Speaker 6: I mean, You know, here's the thing. That first game,
- 2:58Speaker 6: I thought, my gosh, this team is terrible. And especially
- 3:01Speaker 6: in light of the fact that the Giants just got
- 3:04Speaker 6: annihilated by the Rams last night. But the Cowboys look
- 3:06Speaker 6: pretty good against Tony the Taylor's team from Washington. He
- 3:10Speaker 6: doesn't like calling them the commanders. He's a Redskins guy.
- 3:12Speaker 6: So the boys look good. The offense is great. The
- 3:17Speaker 6: defense sucks. Same as last year.
- 3:19Speaker 8: Same as last year, you know, just rinse and repeat.
- 3:23Speaker 6: Yeah, exactly right. Now, I got some things going on
- 3:25Speaker 6: in Nitro that we want to talk about, but I
- 3:28Speaker 6: understand you're at the State Tourism Conference now, is that right?
- 3:31Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm sitting out here in the breezeway kind of thing,
- 3:35Speaker 8: and watching the Elk River kind of flow on by.
- 3:38Speaker 8: It's three days of talking tourism, one of the leading
- 3:42Speaker 8: industries here in the state of West Virginia.
- 3:45Speaker 6: You know, the governor came out yesterday and had some
- 3:46Speaker 6: pretty impressive numbers as far as tourism goes. We have
- 3:49Speaker 6: a story posted about it at wvmetronews.com, but things are
- 3:53Speaker 6: looking pretty good as far as the dollar amounts coming
- 3:55Speaker 6: into West Virginia for tourism.
- 3:58Speaker 8: Very strong, Dave, and it's across the board. from the
- 4:01Speaker 8: eastern panhandle to the northern panhandle, down to southern West Virginia,
- 4:05Speaker 8: here in Charleston, Tim Brady with the Charleston CBB and
- 4:09Speaker 8: everything and the events that are coming in here into
- 4:11Speaker 8: the Kanawha Metro Valley area. It's pushing the needle upward.
- 4:17Speaker 6: And of course, I mean, the tourism here in the Valley,
- 4:20Speaker 6: as you said, you got Kelly Steele, who does a
- 4:22Speaker 6: great job in Putnam County, got Megan Archer and the
- 4:25Speaker 6: folks in Huntington with their And the Chambers of Commerce
- 4:28Speaker 6: and Tourism, they all kind of work together in this.
- 4:30Speaker 6: And we've got a team of winners, not the least
- 4:32Speaker 6: of which is you, you know, for Nitro. And you
- 4:36Speaker 6: guys continue to have so much going on, Joe. I
- 4:38Speaker 6: was thinking about this earlier. I should just give you
- 4:39Speaker 6: a daily slot on my show just to talk about
- 4:41Speaker 6: things going on in Nitro.
- 4:44Speaker 8: No, we want to keep the ratings continuing to climb,
- 4:47Speaker 8: so we'll not do that. But, you know, Tim Brady
- 4:50Speaker 8: welcomed everybody to Charleston yesterday morning, and he made a
- 4:54Speaker 8: very good point. in the Kanawha Metro Valley area, how
- 4:58Speaker 8: all the various CBBs and Chamber of Commerce work extremely
- 5:02Speaker 8: together for the goal of one, and that's to bring
- 5:05Speaker 8: people here in the region. If they see one region,
- 5:09Speaker 8: they visit another and another. So it's a collaboration and
- 5:13Speaker 8: an effort that it's working.
- 5:15Speaker 6: Indeed it is. And you've got a couple things going
- 5:17Speaker 6: on you want to talk about in the city of Nitro. Tomorrow,
- 5:20Speaker 6: the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association, some of my favorite people, are
- 5:23Speaker 6: coming to town for a mobile clinic. Talk about that.
- 5:26Speaker 8: Well, first off, don't let the rain tomorrow send you
- 5:31Speaker 8: away with your pets that might need to be vaccinated
- 5:34Speaker 8: because it's their new mobile clinic. And it will be
- 5:38Speaker 8: in Nitro tomorrow from 9 until 3. And the mobile
- 5:42Speaker 8: clinic will be located in the parking lot of the
- 5:46Speaker 8: Nitro library. It won't be in the library. but, you know,
- 5:49Speaker 8: I mean, people sometimes show up for something when we
- 5:52Speaker 8: have going on in the parking lot and they go
- 5:54Speaker 8: into the library. No, if you need to go in
- 5:56Speaker 8: the library, that's fine, but it'll be outside and they
- 5:59Speaker 8: will be offering vaccinations, the various different forms of vaccinations
- 6:03Speaker 8: that the pets will be needing, you know, and like
- 6:07Speaker 8: flea medications also. And you can also get your animal
- 6:10Speaker 8: microchipped for $ 25. So it's just, I really like the
- 6:16Speaker 8: fact that the Humane Association, the Charleston Humane Association, is
- 6:20Speaker 8: taking it to the people now and really working with
- 6:24Speaker 8: them to make sure that their family pets are up
- 6:28Speaker 8: to speed on all their vaccinations. And I really like
- 6:31Speaker 8: the microchipping scenario.
- 6:33Speaker 6: Oh, yeah, absolutely. We're talking to Joe Stevens from the
- 6:35Speaker 6: city of Nitro. What are the hours for this event tomorrow?
- 6:39Speaker 8: Again, it'll start at 9 o'clock and go until about
- 6:42Speaker 8: 3 o'clock. And easy access into the parking lot. It's
- 6:47Speaker 8: a huge parking lot. But you will go inside the clinic.
- 6:51Speaker 8: You'll be outside of the weather, inside from the weather,
- 6:55Speaker 8: as it may be, and be taking care of that.
- 6:58Speaker 8: One thing, please remember, it will be cash only tomorrow.
- 7:01Speaker 8: There's not Wi-Fi access where they will be. So it
- 7:05Speaker 8: will be cash only tomorrow for any of the vaccinations
- 7:08Speaker 8: that you need for your animals. And you can start
- 7:12Speaker 8: charting so that they can let you know when you
- 7:15Speaker 8: need them moving forward.
- 7:17Speaker 6: Yeah, and again, it's going to start about 9 tomorrow morning.
- 7:19Speaker 6: Hats off to the folks at the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association
- 7:22Speaker 6: for making this available. And as you said, Joe, taking
- 7:24Speaker 6: it to the people. I really like the convenience aspect
- 7:27Speaker 6: of that. It's 9.15, the Dave Allen Show on 580 Live,
- 7:29Speaker 6: brought to you in part by Morgan & Morgan. If
- 7:31Speaker 6: you're injured... Hire Morgan & Morgan, America's largest injury law firm. Now,
- 7:35Speaker 6: you've got a big event going on for the RC cars,
- 7:37Speaker 6: the remote-control cars, I understand, this weekend.
- 7:40Speaker 8: I tell you what, last year we brought them into
- 7:42Speaker 8: town for the chili cook-off, and we had them over
- 7:45Speaker 8: on 21st Street, and they were everywhere. I mean, everywhere.
- 7:49Speaker 8: You heard this buzzing. I thought there were drones around,
- 7:52Speaker 8: but there were remote-control cars just everywhere. And TJ, the
- 7:57Speaker 8: owner of Pizza— to the pit crawl zone, and the
- 8:00Speaker 8: pit in Nitro came to the CVB and said, I'd
- 8:04Speaker 8: like to put an event on at Ridenour Lake. And
- 8:09Speaker 8: we said, sure. After I saw what happened at the
- 8:12Speaker 8: chili cook-off, I said, heck yeah, let's do it. So
- 8:15Speaker 8: he's already got about 200 entries into this event that'll
- 8:19Speaker 8: be happening Saturday at the Ridenour Lake Preserve, and it'll
- 8:24Speaker 8: be happening over on Shelter 5, which is on the
- 8:26Speaker 8: back side, right at the main trailhead. They have, for
- 8:30Speaker 8: about two or three weeks now, they have been constructing
- 8:33Speaker 8: courses for this event, bringing in a lot of rocks,
- 8:37Speaker 8: a lot of stone and everything. It's often to the side,
- 8:41Speaker 8: and I tell you what, they were out there practicing
- 8:45Speaker 8: the other day. It was just a lot of fun
- 8:47Speaker 8: to watch these remote-controlled cars, trucks, what have you, climbing
- 8:52Speaker 8: up the rocks and doing what they do best. Have
- 8:56Speaker 8: some fun.
- 8:57Speaker 6: Well, and I tell you, this thing is huge. I mean,
- 9:01Speaker 6: this whole remote control thing across America, I've got a
- 9:03Speaker 6: couple of my buddies that are into this. If you
- 9:05Speaker 6: think this is something that is just for kids, I mean,
- 9:09Speaker 6: people spend a lot of money on these cars, and
- 9:11Speaker 6: people love to come out to these events.
- 9:14Speaker 8: And you know what? They take it serious. I mean,
- 9:17Speaker 8: they really, really do. And what I did see when
- 9:21Speaker 8: we had it on 21st Street, they will help each other.
- 9:24Speaker 8: It's like, Everybody else, everybody is everybody else's pit crew.
- 9:29Speaker 8: And I don't think there'll be any, it won't be
- 9:31Speaker 8: any fighting in this pit crew scene this week that
- 9:35Speaker 8: we had in NASCAR.
- 9:36Speaker 6: Was that wild or what, man? I mean, with Josevar
- 9:40Speaker 6: and Blaney going at it after. And look, I'm a
- 9:43Speaker 6: NASCAR fan going, Joe, going way back. And I mean,
- 9:47Speaker 6: NASCAR over the last couple of years has been pretty boring.
- 9:49Speaker 6: I'm not going to lie to you. All the cars
- 9:51Speaker 6: look exactly the same. They change sponsors every week. So
- 9:54Speaker 6: you can't go out, you know, with the STP car
- 9:56Speaker 6: or the good wrench car like we had for so
- 9:58Speaker 6: many years. But they never.
- 10:00Speaker 1: that.
- 10:01Speaker 6: And especially in Bristol, which, you know, is iconic in
- 10:04Speaker 6: and of itself. I didn't, I was already asleep because
- 10:06Speaker 6: I'm old, uh, but I did see the, uh, highlights
- 10:09Speaker 6: the next morning. And I thought, man, that's, that's good
- 10:12Speaker 6: stuff right there.
- 10:14Speaker 8: You, without a doubt. And you need to go and
- 10:16Speaker 8: check out, uh, the, uh, podcast from, uh, from Denny
- 10:22Speaker 8: Hamlin yesterday. He had Ryan Blaney on it talking about it,
- 10:26Speaker 8: and Ryan was just straight up, you just got to
- 10:28Speaker 8: go watch it to see what I'm talking about and everything.
- 10:31Speaker 8: And he told the world, I'm about to do something,
- 10:34Speaker 8: and he did it.
- 10:35Speaker 6: He did, indeed. And I'll say this, Josavar throws a
- 10:40Speaker 6: pretty mean right punch.
- 10:42Speaker 8: I tell you what, when you're 6'3, 210 pounds or so,
- 10:44Speaker 8: you can pack it.
- 10:48Speaker 6: Yeah, and I give him credit for having the helmets off.
- 10:50Speaker 6: You know, one of my heroes, Ric Flair, was down there,
- 10:54Speaker 6: and they asked him if he had any advice to
- 10:57Speaker 6: give to NASCAR racers. And I think this was actually
- 11:00Speaker 6: before the fight about cutting promos and how to do
- 11:03Speaker 6: it correctly. And Ric said, take your helmet off. And
- 11:06Speaker 6: this goes for football, too. If you're going to fight,
- 11:08Speaker 6: take the helmets off. Be a man, which I thought
- 11:10Speaker 6: was kind of cool. All right, so this event is, again, Saturday.
- 11:14Speaker 6: And give us all the details on it again.
- 11:17Speaker 8: Okay, it'll start around 9 o'clock, and it'll go until
- 11:20Speaker 8: they're done racing. There's no end time on it. It's
- 11:23Speaker 8: located at the Rodnauer Lake Preserve over at the main trailhead,
- 11:27Speaker 8: which is right there at Shelter 5. You go across
- 11:30Speaker 8: the dam and just follow the road around. It'll take
- 11:33Speaker 8: you right to it. TJ and the Pit Crawl Zone
- 11:36Speaker 8: will be having everything set up, and registration will be
- 11:40Speaker 8: going on. If you've got any questions or you need...
- 11:44Speaker 8: If you need some more information, you can go to thepitcrawlzone.net.
- 11:49Speaker 8: That's thepitcrawlzone.net. Or you can check out their Facebook page,
- 11:57Speaker 8: and you can get all the information there, David. It'll
- 11:59Speaker 8: be a lot of fun.
- 11:59Speaker 6: Yeah, sounds like it. All right, Joe, enjoy the rest
- 12:01Speaker 6: of the tourism conference. Pick us up some swag while
- 12:03Speaker 6: you're there, will you?
- 12:05Speaker 8: Always, my friend, always.
- 12:06Speaker 6: And the tourism secretary, Kayla Kessinger, will be on Mitra
- 12:09Speaker 6: News Midday today. So I'll throw that out there. Hey, Joe,
- 12:12Speaker 6: it's always a pleasure, man. Keep doing great things in Nitro.
- 12:14Speaker 6: We'll talk soon.
- 12:16Speaker 8: Be safe, my friend. Be safe.
- 12:18Speaker 3: All right.
- 12:19Speaker 6: So we are going to take a break. When we
- 12:20Speaker 6: come back a little bit later on, Burke Allen, Allen
- 12:23Speaker 6: Media Strategies, is going to join us to talk about
- 12:25Speaker 6: this whole dust-up with the president banning MSNOW, Politico, and CNN,
- 12:30Speaker 6: and now others coming out and saying, well, you know what,
- 12:33Speaker 6: if that's the way you want to be, then we're
- 12:34Speaker 6: not coming either, including Fox News. And now the president
- 12:37Speaker 6: is starting his own, and this was announced last night,
- 12:40Speaker 6: his own television platform. Trump TV. And you're going to
- 12:43Speaker 6: love the slogan of it, which I'll get to a
- 12:45Speaker 6: little bit later on. We'll cover that. Plus, Brian Hughes,
- 12:48Speaker 6: Metro News meteorologist, is standing by next. Back after this
- 12:51Speaker 6: on The Voice of Charleston, WCHS.
- 12:54Speaker 9: Are you looking for a technical job in the medical field?

- 15:38Speaker 6: out generationsford.com. Texas Dave, so glad to hear you today.
- 15:42Speaker 6: Didn't know if you'd be on the air today or
- 15:44Speaker 6: not after disagreeing with the president on policies. I'm still here.
- 15:49Speaker 6: Still here. Dex says, good for Tony the tailor not
- 15:51Speaker 6: going along with caving to the bullying tactic known as
- 15:55Speaker 6: political correctness. By the way, the people that demanded the
- 15:58Speaker 6: names of the Redskins and Indians be changed did so, quote,
- 16:01Speaker 6: on others' behalf. Not even members of those tribes and
- 16:04Speaker 6: members of those tribes had no problem with the name.
- 16:06Speaker 6: So people just need to sit down, shut up, stop
- 16:09Speaker 6: looking for things to be offended and complain about. By
- 16:12Speaker 6: the way, as an alum, I got to say Sissonville,
- 16:14Speaker 6: you better not ever cave to the mob and change
- 16:16Speaker 6: your name. You will always be the Indians, says the texture,
- 16:20Speaker 6: much like Hurricane. Those of the Hurricane have said they
- 16:22Speaker 6: will always be the Redskins. And the words Tony the
- 16:24Speaker 6: Taylor and political correct would never be in the same
- 16:27Speaker 6: sentence at all. Let's bring in now Metro News meteorologist
- 16:30Speaker 6: Brian Hughes. How you doing, my friend?
- 16:33Speaker 2: Well, I'm sitting on the Ohio River watching the floodwaters
- 16:38Speaker 2: go by.
- 16:39Speaker 6: Okay, so where are you and how bad is it
- 16:40Speaker 6: where you are?
- 16:42Speaker 2: Well, I'm in Point Pleasant, and we've got a number
- 16:45Speaker 2: of our thermal boats with the American Thermal Association that
- 16:47Speaker 2: are down here.
- 16:48Speaker 7: We were going to be in Pomeroy.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Have a great wrap-up to the festival season for this weekend,
- 16:54Speaker 2: but Mother Nature is always in charge. So, you know,
- 16:57Speaker 2: we've obviously had over the last week, we've had just
- 17:01Speaker 2: a ton of flash flood warnings.
- 17:03Speaker 7: All across the region.
- 17:04Speaker 2: You've heard them on the radio, you've seen them on TV,
- 17:07Speaker 2: and they've just been a problem. Matter of fact, this
- 17:08Speaker 2: is probably going to end up as being the most
- 17:12Speaker 2: warned year in the National Weather Service history for the
- 17:15Speaker 2: state of West Virginia.
- 17:16Speaker 6: The most warned year. That's interesting. That's an interesting way
- 17:20Speaker 6: to put it.
- 17:21Speaker 2: And most of it's on the flash flood side, you know,
- 17:24Speaker 2: but barely, you know, it's been a few tornado warnings
- 17:26Speaker 2: and a lot of it's going to be flash flooding. So, Thankfully,
- 17:30Speaker 2: it's in different places than it has been over the
- 17:32Speaker 2: past couple of years, so that's at least the good
- 17:34Speaker 2: news out of it. But we still have the sprinkles
- 17:37Speaker 2: that are wrapping up this morning. We do expect more
- 17:39Speaker 2: rain to return as we head into the seeding and tonight.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Matter of fact, you know, looking at the forecast models
- 17:46Speaker 2: even right now, you know, you've got stuff that fires
- 17:49Speaker 2: up around the Kanawha Valley as we.
- 17:50Speaker 7: Get into the.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Really, we've got some thunderstorm chances close to it, probably
- 17:55Speaker 2: south of us as we go into this afternoon by 5,
- 17:58Speaker 2: 6 o'clock and into the mountains. Very similar to what
- 18:00Speaker 2: we had yesterday afternoon and evening.
- 18:02Speaker 12: And then.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Oh, goodness.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Going into your Thursday, that's when, excuse me, Wednesday, tomorrow, Wednesday,
- 18:10Speaker 2: that's when we have more widespread showers and storms returning.
- 18:13Speaker 2: We could see, on average, about half an inch for
- 18:16Speaker 2: the day tomorrow. But then after that, man, Mother Nature
- 18:19Speaker 2: does turn on the You know, the Chamber of Commerce days.
- 18:23Speaker 2: We're going to see temperatures because, listen, everybody wants Chamber
- 18:26Speaker 2: of Commerce days. But we're going to go for temperatures
- 18:29Speaker 2: on Thursday at 69.70 and then 69.68 for your Friday, Saturday.
- 18:36Speaker 2: All dry Thursday on into the first part of next week.
- 18:39Speaker 6: Looking good for high school football Friday night. I know
- 18:41Speaker 6: Marshall's got their homecoming Saturday afternoon, so the weather's looking great, right?
- 18:45Speaker 7: Oh, that's an early day. It is an early day
- 18:47Speaker 7: for homecoming.
- 18:48Speaker 8: It is.
- 18:48Speaker 1: It is.
- 18:49Speaker 7: It really is. But it's going to be great weather.
- 18:52Speaker 2: So any of your college football Saturday stuff, whether you're
- 18:54Speaker 2: going to be at Marshall or you're going to be
- 18:55Speaker 2: up there at the Oklahoma State game with the Big
- 18:57Speaker 2: 12 opener with the Mountaineers, great, great weather. But, you know,
- 19:02Speaker 2: as you go into it, think about this. For that
- 19:04Speaker 2: night game up there in Morgantown, if your head's there.
- 19:06Speaker 2: You're definitely going to need the jackets, the jeans, sweatshirts,
- 19:08Speaker 2: stuff like that, because overnight lows starting Friday morning all
- 19:12Speaker 2: the way into the weekend are going to be in
- 19:13Speaker 2: the mid to upper 40s around the region.
- 19:15Speaker 8: All right.
- 19:15Speaker 6: I want to ask you a dumb question because that's
- 19:17Speaker 6: what I do better than anybody, Brian, okay? So today's
- 19:21Speaker 6: the first day of fall. I think it's officially like 8.05
- 19:24Speaker 6: this evening, right? Is that what I read? Yes, that
- 19:26Speaker 6: is correct.
- 19:27Speaker 8: Okay.
- 19:27Speaker 6: So why does the season have something to do with
- 19:31Speaker 6: the moon, the stars? I don't know, something like that.
- 19:33Speaker 6: But why does it change? Because here's the reason I
- 19:36Speaker 6: say that, the date of when the change of the seasons.
- 19:38Speaker 6: Because I used to tell people tomorrow's my birthday, cheap plug.
- 19:42Speaker 6: And I used to say to people, oh, my birthday
- 19:44Speaker 6: is the first day of fall. Well, it's not this year.
- 19:47Speaker 6: So why does it change?
- 19:49Speaker 8: Well, it changes.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Only because of the way the gravitational forces work with
- 19:55Speaker 2: the Earth and the sun. And the moon has a
- 19:58Speaker 2: little issue in that.
- 20:00Speaker 7: But they always circle around the same areas, roughly.
- 20:03Speaker 2: And it just changes because of the way the magnetic
- 20:05Speaker 2: patterns are for the poles as well as the gravitational
- 20:09Speaker 2: forces across the entire solar system.
- 20:10Speaker 6: I knew you would know this because you know stuff.
- 20:14Speaker 7: I know some really stupid things.
- 20:16Speaker 8: Okay.
- 20:17Speaker 9: No, you know what?
- 20:18Speaker 6: This stuff is important. So I was just always wondering that.
- 20:21Speaker 6: How do they decide that? Because it's always, but it's
- 20:23Speaker 6: always either the 22nd or 23rd. Am I safe in
- 20:25Speaker 6: saying that?
- 20:27Speaker 3: Yes.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Well, sometimes they give you the 21st, 22nd, and then,
- 20:30Speaker 2: you know. 20 seconds is usually the day.
- 20:32Speaker 8: Okay.
- 20:33Speaker 7: You have 21st and 23rd that it can land on.
- 20:35Speaker 2: But, you know, this is all about the moment that sun,
- 20:39Speaker 2: the sun's angle is directly over the equator.
- 20:43Speaker 7: So that's what it's all about.
- 20:44Speaker 8: All right.
- 20:44Speaker 7: Crossing that boundary line.
- 20:46Speaker 13: Okay.
- 20:46Speaker 6: So getting back to the weather we've had with, I mean,
- 20:49Speaker 6: it's like nonstop. It's like I'm driving into work this
- 20:51Speaker 6: morning and I just get hit with about South Charleston.
- 20:53Speaker 6: So like just a, I mean, like buckets of rain
- 20:55Speaker 6: coming down. And I'm thinking, is this normal? I mean,
- 20:59Speaker 6: you said this is going to be the most warned weather.
- 21:02Speaker 6: few months we've had maybe in weather history. But I mean,
- 21:04Speaker 6: are we getting an abnormally huge amount of rain or
- 21:09Speaker 6: does it just seem that way? And is it is
- 21:11Speaker 6: this normal? Because to me, it ain't. But you're the
- 21:14Speaker 6: weather guy.
- 21:15Speaker 7: It is not normal.
- 21:16Speaker 2: As a matter of fact, you know, we're going to
- 21:18Speaker 2: go into the winter with a surplus of rain, and
- 21:21Speaker 2: we're going to make it through winter most likely with
- 21:23Speaker 2: a surplus of rain, because when you're in super El
- 21:25Speaker 2: Nino years, super El Nino years, that's what you get.
- 21:29Speaker 2: You get an overproduction of rain across the eastern part
- 21:32Speaker 2: of the country.
- 21:33Speaker 7: And then, you know, the only thing about our territory.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Is we are the dividing line between polar air pollution,
- 21:39Speaker 2: and then that southern air that comes up out of
- 21:41Speaker 2: the Gulf of Mexico.
- 21:42Speaker 7: And we're sort of a fighting line.
- 21:44Speaker 2: We're essentially a Mason-Dixon line for the weather gods. And
- 21:49Speaker 2: with that you have polar air that can cross down
- 21:53Speaker 2: to the deep south. But then one of those storms,
- 21:55Speaker 2: as it comes up and over that, that's when we
- 21:57Speaker 2: can have those massive storms. And that's what you see
- 22:00Speaker 2: in 2016.
- 22:01Speaker 7: You go back.
- 22:01Speaker 2: To the big super storms. Those were in super El
- 22:06Speaker 2: Nino years. So Mother Nature can surprise us, but it might.
- 22:09Speaker 7: Be just a muddy, wet winter.
- 22:12Speaker 6: Let's talk about the fall forest fire season. I mean,
- 22:14Speaker 6: it'll be here before you know it with all the rain.
- 22:16Speaker 6: We don't know what the next few weeks are going
- 22:18Speaker 6: to hold. Well, actually, probably you do. But normal people
- 22:20Speaker 6: don't know what's going to happen over the next few weeks.
- 22:22Speaker 6: Is that alleviated some of the talk of fall forest
- 22:26Speaker 6: fires with all the rain we've had?
- 22:28Speaker 2: It absolutely has. I mean, this is one of those
- 22:31Speaker 2: times that you go, wow. We're going to have a
- 22:33Speaker 2: heck of a leaf season, leafy season. So when you
- 22:38Speaker 2: look at what we've got as far as the shower
- 22:42Speaker 2: and storm chances going into even next week, this week
- 22:44Speaker 2: and the next week, we're dry all this weekend. But
- 22:46Speaker 2: as we get in the middle and into next week,
- 22:47Speaker 2: there's a couple.
- 22:48Speaker 7: Of shower chances to come back.
- 22:49Speaker 2: But for the fall fire season, we are looking at
- 22:54Speaker 2: a limited problem. You will still have those dry days
- 22:57Speaker 2: when you get that north wind and it dries things out.
- 23:00Speaker 2: But it's not going to be what it's been over
- 23:01Speaker 2: the past few years.
- 23:02Speaker 6: And yesterday, and we'll let you go, we had on
- 23:05Speaker 6: midday yesterday a county commissioner from Lewis County. And man,
- 23:08Speaker 6: those poor people up there, they got hammered again and
- 23:10Speaker 6: they just keep getting it. I think she said that
- 23:12Speaker 6: was the fourth flooding event. Commissioner Queen said on the
- 23:16Speaker 6: show yesterday that was the fourth flooding event that they've
- 23:18Speaker 6: had in the last little bit. Those people just can't
- 23:20Speaker 6: catch a break up there.
- 23:22Speaker 7: They can.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Because we've had a number of flash flood warnings after
- 23:27Speaker 2: that event.
- 23:29Speaker 7: When we were looking at that, I was talking to the.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Head of the EAS, the West Virginia Emergency Alert System,
- 23:35Speaker 2: and that is our chief engineer for West Virginia Radio Corporation.
- 23:38Speaker 7: He goes, I did a test, and just in the.
- 23:40Speaker 2: Morgantown market alone, over the first half of the severe
- 23:43Speaker 2: weather season, we had had over 230 emergency alert notices
- 23:49Speaker 2: that went out. That is unparalleled it's never happened in
- 23:52Speaker 2: our company's history so you know we're we're in for
- 23:55Speaker 2: it and we are seeing when you go look at
- 23:58Speaker 2: over the past 50 years the lineup of uh of
- 24:01Speaker 2: weather events you will see coming out of southern ohio
- 24:05Speaker 2: towards that clarksburg area back there in the lewis-upshire counties
- 24:08Speaker 2: you'll see a target there's just a line that you
- 24:11Speaker 2: can almost draw there that we've had events over the
- 24:14Speaker 2: past uh over the past number of years.
- 24:15Speaker 6: And really for the past 50 years are we going
- 24:17Speaker 6: to uh point and say it's climate change brian because
- 24:19Speaker 6: you know that gets everybody riled up and you'll fill
- 24:21Speaker 6: up my text line if you say it is.
- 24:24Speaker 2: I will tell you this all you have to do
- 24:27Speaker 2: is ask your great grandmother great grandfather or grandmother grandfather
- 24:30Speaker 2: or your mother and say now.
- 24:33Speaker 7: Back in the day was the weather like this and
- 24:35Speaker 7: they will tell you no and those are the people that.
- 24:38Speaker 2: You pay attention to it because listen we have the
- 24:41Speaker 2: data that shows that climate has changed And it's just
- 24:46Speaker 2: a minute change, but there's a chance it all swings
- 24:49Speaker 2: back the other way over the next 60 to 100 years.
- 24:51Speaker 6: Okay. That's why I like talking to you, because you
- 24:55Speaker 6: have common sense. You know, that's why I like, I mean,
- 24:58Speaker 6: you got common sense. That's why we like to have
- 25:00Speaker 6: you around. That's all you have to do.
- 25:02Speaker 8: Talk to the old folks.
- 25:04Speaker 7: They will tell you what's going on.
- 25:05Speaker 6: Well, the problem is, Brian, I am the old folks now.
- 25:07Speaker 6: That's the problem. You know, I am the old folks.
- 25:11Speaker 6: I'm getting older, especially tomorrow. I expect a gift from you.
- 25:14Speaker 6: Metro News meteorologist Brian Hughes, man, be safe out there
- 25:17Speaker 6: in all seriousness, and we'll talk soon. Thanks a lot.
- 25:19Speaker 9: Okay.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Sounds good.
- 25:20Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 25:21Speaker 7: All right.
- 25:21Speaker 6: It is 27 minutes away from 10 here on a
- 25:24Speaker 6: Tuesday morning. What is this show? It's the Dave Allen Show.
- 25:27Speaker 6: That's what it is. And we're brought to you by
- 25:29Speaker 6: Huston's Pizza, where this month you can get a large
- 25:31Speaker 6: 18-inch pepperoni pizza and an order of meatballs $ 24. 99. Find
- 25:35Speaker 6: your nearest Huston's for delivery, dine-in, or pickup at hustonspizza.com.
- 25:38Speaker 6: It is true what Brian said, though. There are people
- 25:41Speaker 6: that will say, and my grandparents have all passed, my
- 25:44Speaker 6: parents have passed, but they will say things like, well,
- 25:48Speaker 6: I want to snow like we used to have. I
- 25:50Speaker 6: want the big old snow. And I don't know that
- 25:52Speaker 6: the weather is any different. I think just the way
- 25:54Speaker 6: we react to it is a little bit differently. I
- 25:58Speaker 6: think so. And look, I don't get into these debates
- 26:01Speaker 6: with people. I am a believer in Hear me out,
- 26:04Speaker 6: and I've said this on the air before. I'm a
- 26:06Speaker 6: believer in climate change. My jury is out, especially when
- 26:10Speaker 6: I talk to people like Brian Hughes, as to how
- 26:12Speaker 6: much we actually have to do with it. And as
- 26:14Speaker 6: Brian said, another 50 years or so, it could swing
- 26:17Speaker 6: back the other way. And if you want something that's,
- 26:22Speaker 6: I guess, on the positive side, to my knowledge, I'll
- 26:24Speaker 6: look it up during the break, no named Atlantic hurricanes
- 26:28Speaker 6: this season for the first time in a long time.
- 26:29Speaker 6: I'll get the exact data, but there was no named
- 26:31Speaker 6: Atlantic hurricanes. full-fledged hurricanes. And we're still in hurricane season,
- 26:35Speaker 6: I think, through November, but none this year. And it
- 26:38Speaker 6: was predicted to be a very, very active hurricane season.
- 26:41Speaker 6: Turns out that was not the case. 26 minutes away
- 26:44Speaker 6: from 10, a text says NASCAR started the downhill plunge
- 26:47Speaker 6: after the death of Dale Earnhardt that had the final
- 26:50Speaker 6: nail in the coffin when Jr. retired. I would say something.
- 26:54Speaker 6: I would say something for that. Text said, don't let
- 26:57Speaker 6: Republicans take away your freedom of speech. Let them know
- 27:00Speaker 6: it's not going to happen. around here. Text, Dave had
- 27:06Speaker 6: the perfect slogan for the new Trump TV network, Trump News,
- 27:09Speaker 6: stupidity at its best. Text, no ship or military base
- 27:16Speaker 6: should be named after this draft-dodging president. It dishonors those
- 27:20Speaker 6: who actually served in the military. Also, his name should
- 27:23Speaker 6: not be along that of President Kennedy. President Kennedy was
- 27:26Speaker 6: a war hero. If you have any doubts, just watch
- 27:28Speaker 6: the movie PT-109. That's pretty much word for word what
- 27:32Speaker 6: Danny Jones said on the show yesterday. We're going to
- 27:35Speaker 6: talk about the president's decision to at least try to
- 27:39Speaker 6: ban certain media outlets from the White House. Burke Allen,
- 27:42Speaker 6: Allen Media Strategies, coming up next on The Voice of

- 31:26Speaker 3: event in the country. And I think they said there
- 31:29Speaker 3: were 101,000 nominees this year. And so she made the uppercut.
- 31:34Speaker 3: And as they say, it's an honor to be nominated.
- 31:37Speaker 3: And so was our company, by the way, which was
- 31:39Speaker 3: kind of cool, an artist management company. And I'm kind
- 31:42Speaker 3: of glad I'm not in Washington, D.C. this week. Because
- 31:45Speaker 3: that whole town is just, they're a tither. You know what,
- 31:50Speaker 3: they're in a wad over this whole thing with the
- 31:53Speaker 3: press being banned from the press pool.
- 31:55Speaker 6: Okay, so let's take us back here. I mean, the
- 31:57Speaker 6: president called out CNN, MSNOW, as I said, formerly MSNBC
- 32:01Speaker 6: and Politico, basically saying, you know, they can't ban him
- 32:05Speaker 6: from covering him because all the stuff's available online. But
- 32:08Speaker 6: banning them from, I guess, being live in person, right?
- 32:13Speaker 3: Yeah, so here's the thing. To most people, I would assume, David,
- 32:17Speaker 3: this looks like it's an inside baseball, who really cares story,
- 32:21Speaker 3: and CNN and MSNL got what's coming to them. But
- 32:26Speaker 3: this isn't really about liking a network. It's about the
- 32:30Speaker 3: public's right to know what's going on. So, you know,
- 32:33Speaker 3: when this administration or any administration picks winners and losers
- 32:37Speaker 3: in access, the losers are us, the people, because we
- 32:42Speaker 3: lose that transparency. And once you credential the press as
- 32:47Speaker 3: a whole, you know, if you say one can come in, well,
- 32:49Speaker 3: you can't yank access away. over the coverage you don't like.
- 32:54Speaker 3: That's the First Amendment concern, right? So, you know, retaliation
- 32:58Speaker 3: for reporting is a line that.
- 33:01Speaker 8: You can't normalize.
- 33:02Speaker 3: And I think you hit it on the head when
- 33:04Speaker 3: you said that the solidarity thing for Fox News, that
- 33:07Speaker 3: is the headline, because that signals this is bigger than
- 33:12Speaker 3: any partisan media. There's no question that MS now leans
- 33:15Speaker 3: way to the left and CNN leans pretty far to
- 33:18Speaker 3: the left. But when the folks at Fox come in
- 33:21Speaker 3: as part of this press pool and they and other
- 33:24Speaker 3: competitors stand together, that's a warning sign that this precedent
- 33:27Speaker 3: is pretty dangerous for everybody.
- 33:29Speaker 6: Well, and I have to give an apology to the
- 33:31Speaker 6: folks at Fox because I said that yesterday, I said
- 33:35Speaker 6: that I did not predict that Fox News would actually
- 33:38Speaker 6: come to their defense, and they did. They actually did.
- 33:41Speaker 6: So big, big props to the folks at Fox News
- 33:43Speaker 6: for doing that, for basically coming and saying, look, we
- 33:47Speaker 6: stand in solidarity. Then there was that moment yesterday, I
- 33:50Speaker 6: don't know whether you saw this or not, but I
- 33:52Speaker 6: guess the president wasn't mic'd up properly, and he was
- 33:56Speaker 6: attempting to give a speech and all you heard was
- 33:58Speaker 6: the helicopter sounds. Maybe that's part of the whole thing.
- 34:01Speaker 6: You know, I don't know. Let me play devil's advocate
- 34:05Speaker 6: here for a moment, Burke. OK, so.
- 34:07Speaker 3: All right.
- 34:07Speaker 6: So what you're saying is, is that, you know, the
- 34:11Speaker 6: president is saying these folks cannot or are not allowed
- 34:14Speaker 6: to cover him. OK, but what would be to play
- 34:18Speaker 6: devil's advocate here? I mean, it's not like they as
- 34:20Speaker 6: I said in the opener, they sound like they can't
- 34:22Speaker 6: report anything. They can get the news on what he's
- 34:27Speaker 6: saying by watching one of the other networks, by watching
- 34:30Speaker 6: online or something like that. So my point is, is
- 34:34Speaker 6: it just plain devil's advocate here? I mean, the news
- 34:39Speaker 6: is still there to be reported on whether they're in
- 34:40Speaker 6: person or not.
- 34:43Speaker 3: Yeah, you're right. And there are a couple of things
- 34:45Speaker 3: that you should understand, right? So one of them is
- 34:48Speaker 3: that this comes down to logistics. The press pool is
- 34:51Speaker 3: there because there's literally a limited amount of space to cover, right?
- 34:58Speaker 3: So there's one outlet, and they rotate them out, does
- 35:01Speaker 3: the TV feed, and then they distribute that information to everybody.
- 35:05Speaker 3: And one or two photographers will shoot, and then they
- 35:07Speaker 3: distribute those photographs to everybody. So it's a space and
- 35:10Speaker 3: logistics and a money thing because it costs money. hundreds
- 35:13Speaker 3: of thousands of dollars whenever the president mobilizes to send
- 35:16Speaker 3: people out with him. So there's that. But let me
- 35:18Speaker 3: put it in. You're a big football guy, so I'll
- 35:21Speaker 3: put it in a sports analogy. And we both grew
- 35:24Speaker 3: up in Logan, so we may or may not have
- 35:26Speaker 3: seen this. When people think the ref is picking the teams,
- 35:30Speaker 3: they stop believing the score, right? And that's what's happening here. Transparency,
- 35:35Speaker 3: you know, this White House, We'll tell you this about
- 35:39Speaker 3: President Trump. He is a master marketer. That guy can
- 35:43Speaker 3: come up with a slogan that sticks, you know, MAGA,
- 35:46Speaker 3: you know, make America great again. And, you know, when
- 35:49Speaker 3: we talked about the one big, beautiful bill and this
- 35:52Speaker 3: fake news thing that has stuck in America's.
- 35:55Speaker 6: Psyche for 10 years, fake news has been around for 10.
- 35:58Speaker 6: I mean, the term fake news has been around for
- 36:00Speaker 6: over 10 years now.
- 36:01Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's him, right? And so he comes up
- 36:04Speaker 3: with that stuff. But transparency is the antidote to fake news, right?
- 36:10Speaker 3: The more access, the more facts... The more sunlight all
- 36:15Speaker 3: of us see, then the less opportunity there is for
- 36:18Speaker 3: fake news. You don't shut down fake news by cutting
- 36:21Speaker 3: some reporters out of there. This is a power move.
- 36:24Speaker 3: They want to control how they frame stories up by
- 36:27Speaker 3: controlling who's in the room and having that direct access.
- 36:33Speaker 3: So who's the loser? Well, the American public are, because
- 36:36Speaker 3: if nobody is in there covering him with a balance,
- 36:40Speaker 3: the fair balance thing, then we're left in the dark.
- 36:43Speaker 3: So that's the bad news there.
- 36:44Speaker 6: All right. And now it was announced last night, Trump TV.
- 36:48Speaker 6: This is the actual name here. Trump TV, the essentials station.
- 36:53Speaker 6: And this is their tagline. Watch the Trump administration's biggest
- 36:57Speaker 6: moments all in one place. Top videos, major remarks, and
- 37:01Speaker 6: must-see highlights streaming 24-7 and updated in real time. Stay
- 37:05Speaker 6: informed and stay up-to-date. End quote. That is the slogan.
- 37:10Speaker 3: Sure. And that will energize the Trump base. But it
- 37:13Speaker 3: also creates a bigger story than whatever the message of
- 37:16Speaker 3: the day is, right? So just him saying that will eclipse...
- 37:22Speaker 3: what's actually happening out there, especially if it's something that
- 37:24Speaker 3: they want to bury under the rug. If you ever notice,
- 37:29Speaker 3: this administration does something that every administration has done since
- 37:32Speaker 3: I started my company 26 years ago, Allen Media Strategies,
- 37:35Speaker 3: and that is they will, if there's something they really,
- 37:38Speaker 3: really don't want to talk about, But they have to.
- 37:41Speaker 3: They put it out Friday afternoon at 5 o'clock. They
- 37:44Speaker 3: know that normal Americans are going about with their weekend,
- 37:48Speaker 3: and the press coverage will be really, really low. That's
- 37:51Speaker 3: the old way of controlling the messaging. This new Trump
- 37:54Speaker 3: initiative is another way. But I'll say again, Fox News
- 37:57Speaker 3: standing with the competitors tells you this precedent is pretty risky,
- 38:01Speaker 3: even if– If you're an ally, because what happens when,
- 38:05Speaker 3: you know, it's a slippery slope, right? When they go
- 38:08Speaker 3: back in and say, well, we don't like this coverage,
- 38:11Speaker 3: so we're going to ban you guys next. So that's
- 38:13Speaker 3: why this whole thing is going to end up in court.
- 38:17Speaker 3: The process matters as much as the outcome does. Without
- 38:19Speaker 3: notice of process, that's a big deal. Due process, clear
- 38:22Speaker 3: standards will protect both the press but also the presidency.
- 38:27Speaker 3: There's something good to be said of all that.
- 38:29Speaker 6: Well, and let me just say this. One of the
- 38:32Speaker 6: things that I think this administration has been very good at,
- 38:35Speaker 6: Burke– and again, we're talking to Burke Allen of Allen
- 38:37Speaker 6: Media Strategies– is creating diversion. And all the talk has
- 38:42Speaker 6: been about gas prices, diesel prices, about the war in
- 38:45Speaker 6: Iran that's becoming more and more unpopular every day, about
- 38:49Speaker 6: how unpopular the president is now getting to be among Republicans.
- 38:52Speaker 6: He's got an incredibly low approval rating among, obviously, Democrats,
- 38:57Speaker 6: but a low approval rating now with independents and so
- 39:02Speaker 6: on and so forth. How much of when he does
- 39:03Speaker 6: these outrageous things is him just trying to create a diversion?
- 39:09Speaker 3: I think that is certainly a part of it. I
- 39:12Speaker 3: will also tell you, having, again, been in that city,
- 39:15Speaker 3: I have a West Virginian in exile in Washington, D.C.,
- 39:19Speaker 3: and that's kind of a sympathetic thing, right? That's why
- 39:21Speaker 3: I sneak out and go to places like Nashville as
- 39:23Speaker 3: much as I can or come back to West Virginia, which,
- 39:25Speaker 3: by the way, a quick aside, I'm coming to Charleston
- 39:28Speaker 3: on Monday, and I'm bringing these classic TV people in
- 39:31Speaker 3: that you guys have done that promotion with, which is
- 39:33Speaker 3: going to be a lot of fun.
- 39:33Speaker 6: Yeah, we're going to talk about that, but continue your
- 39:35Speaker 6: thought on the president, and we'll talk about why you're
- 39:37Speaker 6: coming to town.
- 39:40Speaker 3: So I think part of it is a diversionary tactic,
- 39:43Speaker 3: but part of it is this president is dogged in
- 39:47Speaker 3: getting what's important to him out into the public marketplace.
- 39:52Speaker 3: He wants to talk about what he wants to talk
- 39:55Speaker 3: about and what he's comfortable talking about. And he– look,
- 39:59Speaker 3: the guy loves the camera. He loves to be in
- 40:02Speaker 3: front of the press, but he wants the messaging to
- 40:05Speaker 3: be what he wants it to be. And a great
- 40:08Speaker 3: example also came yesterday, and it didn't get as much
- 40:11Speaker 3: coverage because of this whole thing. The president was in
- 40:13Speaker 3: New York City, and he sat down with Mayor Mondami,
- 40:15Speaker 3: who could not be more politically opposite. Those two guys
- 40:19Speaker 3: would not normally get along, but President Trump wanted to go.
- 40:24Speaker 3: He was in New York for the United Nations thing.
- 40:26Speaker 3: He wanted to be in Gracie Manchin. And I can
- 40:29Speaker 3: guarantee you that people that advised him said, Mr. President,
- 40:33Speaker 3: it's a bad look for you to be hanging out
- 40:35Speaker 3: with Mondami and being nice to him and all that.
- 40:37Speaker 3: But the president wanted to do what the president wanted
- 40:39Speaker 3: to do, and by damn, he was going to do it.
- 40:41Speaker 2: Yep.
- 40:42Speaker 6: All right. Burke, I always appreciate your insights out on
- 40:45Speaker 6: media strategies. I do want to talk about why you're
- 40:47Speaker 6: coming to Charleston. We've got an event coming up on
- 40:49Speaker 6: the 28th. That's Monday over at Capital Market. An opportunity
- 40:53Speaker 6: for people to come out to Capital Market and meet Mr.
- 40:55Speaker 6: Kathy Garver, who was Sissy on the show Family Affair, Mrs. Gilligan,
- 41:00Speaker 6: Dream of Denver, and Julie McAuliffe, who was on the
- 41:02Speaker 6: show Growing Pains, also Sharknado. They're coming to Charleston for
- 41:06Speaker 6: an autograph session. Talk about it.
- 41:08Speaker 3: Yeah. So if you're a classic TV fan, this is
- 41:10Speaker 3: going to be a lot of fun. The truth of
- 41:12Speaker 3: the matter is I'm coming in for some Tudor's biscuits
- 41:14Speaker 3: and pepperoni rolls. Oh, yeah. This is a side reason
- 41:17Speaker 3: to be there. So, yeah, if you watch Family Affair,
- 41:20Speaker 3: and I caught the syndicated reruns when I was a kid,
- 41:23Speaker 3: that show is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, amazingly.
- 41:27Speaker 3: And Sissy has been, or Kathy Garber, who played Sissy,
- 41:29Speaker 3: has been in the news a lot. Because back then,
- 41:31Speaker 3: they wouldn't allow her to wear... a scandalous miniskirt, which
- 41:34Speaker 3: was all the rage in the late 60s on the show.
- 41:36Speaker 3: So Entertainment Weekly's been talking to her about that. She's
- 41:39Speaker 3: coming back to the East Coast. She's still an actor.
- 41:41Speaker 3: She's on TV and commercials and movies all the time now.
- 41:45Speaker 3: But she's coming back to the East Coast to do
- 41:47Speaker 3: a couple of appearances. One is in Charleston. And she
- 41:49Speaker 3: and Dreama Denver are buddies because, of course, Dreama was
- 41:52Speaker 3: married to Bob Denver, played Gilligan on Gilligan's Island. And
- 41:55Speaker 3: Dreama did a whole bunch of TV shows and movies
- 41:58Speaker 3: back in the day. And then they're teaming up with
- 42:00Speaker 3: Julie McCullough. And Julie is the coolest thing. She's a
- 42:03Speaker 3: West Virginian by choice. She now lives down in Mercer County,
- 42:08Speaker 3: and she was on Growing Pains back in the 80s
- 42:10Speaker 3: and Sharpnado. And Dave, I heard that she was also
- 42:15Speaker 3: a Playboy Playmate back in the 80s. I don't know.
- 42:17Speaker 3: I just read the article.
- 42:19Speaker 6: I have to research that.
- 42:21Speaker 3: I think you probably should. I mean, it's the right
- 42:23Speaker 3: thing to do as a media professional.
- 42:24Speaker 8: Oh, yeah.
- 42:26Speaker 3: Those three ladies are going to get together, and we're
- 42:28Speaker 3: going to do a little interview with them, and audience
- 42:32Speaker 3: members will get asked Q & A questions, and then
- 42:36Speaker 3: you can get selfies done, and they'll have books and
- 42:38Speaker 3: pictures and all that kind of stuff that they can sign.
- 42:40Speaker 3: It's just going to be a fun thing. It's kind
- 42:42Speaker 3: of like the Golden Girls on tour.
- 42:43Speaker 6: Yeah, and it's going to be at Capital Market. starts
- 42:47Speaker 6: at 4 o'clock in our station, WCHS. We're going to
- 42:50Speaker 6: be a big part of that. I'm going to be there.
- 42:51Speaker 6: I think Coop's going to try to come over. I
- 42:52Speaker 6: know he's on the air now. They get that new time,
- 42:55Speaker 6: so maybe he will be able to come over. Maybe
- 42:57Speaker 6: he and Weekly will be over there as well. But
- 42:59Speaker 6: it's 4 until 6. There's no tickets needed on Monday.
- 43:03Speaker 6: No tickets needed. Just show up and get to meet
- 43:06Speaker 6: these people and ask them questions. It'll be a good time.
- 43:08Speaker 6: Thanks for helping. Thanks for working with us to put
- 43:10Speaker 6: this together.
- 43:11Speaker 3: Well, it's going to be a blast. And by the way,
- 43:14Speaker 3: if you would like to do a little something nice
- 43:16Speaker 3: for the town, the ladies asked about the food bank there.
- 43:19Speaker 3: And so if you bring a non-perishable food item and
- 43:21Speaker 3: donate it to Union Mission, that would be appreciated. Not required,
- 43:25Speaker 3: but bring it along and let's gather some food for
- 43:27Speaker 3: folks back there in Canola Valley.
- 43:29Speaker 6: And if anybody wants to go inside Capital Market and
- 43:31Speaker 6: buy Burke and I dinner at Soho's, we'd be all
- 43:33Speaker 6: about that. I'm just saying.
- 43:35Speaker 3: No argument there.
- 43:36Speaker 8: All right.
- 43:37Speaker 6: Burke Allen, Allen Media Strategies. We will talk soon. Definitely.
- 43:40Speaker 6: I'll see you on Monday, big brother. Thanks a lot.
- 43:43Speaker 3: My pleasure. Always good to chat with you, buddy.
- 43:45Speaker 6: All right.
- 43:46Speaker 3: 951.
- 43:46Speaker 6: Again, that event is going to be at Capital Market, 406.
- 43:48Speaker 6: And it is Mrs. Gilligan, Dream of Denver. Fast, lovely,
- 43:54Speaker 6: lovely lady. I've known her for a number of years.
- 43:55Speaker 6: Kathy Garver. who played Sissy on the show Family Affair,
- 43:58Speaker 6: and Julie McCullough. I did not realize that she was
- 44:02Speaker 6: a West Virginian by choice. She chose to move here.
- 44:04Speaker 6: She was on the show Sharknado and on Growing Pains.
- 44:08Speaker 6: No charge permission. Just come on out and enjoy it
- 44:11Speaker 6: and talk to these fine ladies. Get some selfies and whatever.
- 44:13Speaker 6: 4 till 6. And it's happening Monday at Capital Market, Texas.
- 44:17Speaker 6: Florida guy here, Dave. First Amendment protects the fake news
- 44:21Speaker 6: media outlets from government censoring what they publish. Does not
- 44:24Speaker 6: mean the president, no matter what the party, has to
- 44:26Speaker 6: give every journalist unlimited access to the Oval Office. I
- 44:30Speaker 6: don't think that they're asking for unlimited access to the
- 44:34Speaker 6: Oval Office. I mean, I will take a little issue.
- 44:36Speaker 6: With that, I don't think it's unlimited access that they're
- 44:39Speaker 6: asking for. The Dave Allen Show on 580 Live is
- 44:41Speaker 6: brought to you in part by the Charleston Dirty Birds
- 44:43Speaker 6: Trick or Beat. 107.3 The Beat coming to Goldmark Ballpark Thursday,
- 44:47Speaker 6: October 29th. Two sessions, one 6-7, the other 7-30 to 8-30.
- 44:51Speaker 6: Presented by Salango Law. Now admission is free, but you
- 44:54Speaker 6: must have tickets to enter. And tickets will be available

- 45:09Speaker 6: We'll take a break. Come back after this on The

- 46:13Speaker 17: dreaming of is waiting on you now at Walker Chevrolet

- 48:01Speaker 6: Some tragic stuff locally yesterday. A child was struck and
- 48:04Speaker 6: killed by a vehicle in South Charleston last night. It
- 48:07Speaker 6: happened around 730, as reported by Metro 911 near the
- 48:10Speaker 6: McCorkle Avenue and Rock Lake Drive intersection. Tragic situation story
- 48:15Speaker 6: posted at WVMetroNews.com. And information has come out now that
- 48:19Speaker 6: it is believed that the young person killed was a
- 48:23Speaker 6: 12-year-old Dunbar middle school student.
- 48:26Speaker 1: Students.
- 48:26Speaker 6: And again, we have a story posted WVMetroNews.com. Two people
- 48:30Speaker 6: killed in a head-on crash of a Dunbar toll bridge yesterday.
- 48:33Speaker 6: Happened around 310 yesterday afternoon, and there were actually other
- 48:37Speaker 6: crashes because of that crash that did get the bridge
- 48:40Speaker 6: opened back up after seven last night. Story and pics
- 48:42Speaker 6: available WVMetroNews.com. A new council member in Charleston, Jessica Hudson,
- 48:48Speaker 6: was sworn in as a council member in Ward 18
- 48:49Speaker 6: in replacing Pam Berka, who had resigned over health concerns,
- 48:54Speaker 6: or to try to get her on the show. We
- 48:55Speaker 6: have a story about the replacement, though, at WCHSnetwork.com. A
- 48:59Speaker 6: text says, oh, good, Trump TV, nothing like the brain-rotted MAGAs.
- 49:06Speaker 6: I'm sorry, there's nothing the brain-rotted MAGAs need more than
- 49:08Speaker 6: government TV channel dedicated to praising Trump. How are people
- 49:12Speaker 6: still supporting Donald Trump, says a texter. Text says, Donald
- 49:17Speaker 6: Trump is an embarrassing doofus. Text, the so-called leftist media
- 49:22Speaker 6: is really quite centrist. They're corporate capitalists who just happen
- 49:26Speaker 6: to have more accepting social stance. Look how they ran
- 49:29Speaker 6: Bernie off. Look how they're tiptoeing around the DSA. They
- 49:32Speaker 6: want their money just like the conservative media outlets, says
- 49:36Speaker 6: a texter. And somebody Sent me a series of memes here.
- 49:39Speaker 6: Appreciate that. One I read, it says, if you're still
- 49:42Speaker 6: relying on CNN, MSNBC, or ABC for your news, you're
- 49:46Speaker 6: not staying informed. You are being manipulated, according to a
- 49:50Speaker 6: texter via meme. Well, remember, Fox News was the one
- 49:53Speaker 6: that testified in court. They weren't a legitimate news source. Text,
- 49:57Speaker 6: would you blindfold yourself and eat whatever someone fed you?
- 50:00Speaker 3: No.
- 50:00Speaker 6: Stop letting the media do it to you, says a texter. Uh,
- 50:07Speaker 6: good God, just say this is a completely unjustified attack
- 50:11Speaker 6: on the first amendment and freedom of the press. Uh,
- 50:14Speaker 6: you and Burke Allen can't speak plainly on this.
- 50:16Speaker 3: Okay.
- 50:17Speaker 8: All right.
- 50:17Speaker 6: It is a, it is a unjustified attack on freedom
- 50:22Speaker 6: of the press. There you go. That's kind of what
- 50:25Speaker 6: I thought we were saying. Text, West Virginia has the
- 50:29Speaker 6: lowest job participation than all states and one of the
- 50:31Speaker 6: worst education systems. And we've had the lowest job force
- 50:35Speaker 6: workforce participation rate since the 1980s. Text, Dave just wanted
- 50:39Speaker 6: to know where the GOP is going to have constitutional burning.
- 50:42Speaker 6: I have one they can burn, says a texter. Text
- 50:47Speaker 6: Julie McCullough is still active in film. She acts in
- 50:49Speaker 6: projects produced by JC Film Studios, a faith-based production company,
- 50:53Speaker 6: features other stars like Dean Cain and Kevin Sorbo. They
- 50:56Speaker 6: filmed in Bridgeport a lot. Great exposure for West Virginia. Actually,
- 51:00Speaker 6: I think I knew that because I think I've interviewed
- 51:01Speaker 6: somebody from the company, not necessarily her, but I'll get
- 51:04Speaker 6: to talk to her and Kathy Garver and Dream of
- 51:08Speaker 6: Denver later. coming up on Monday over at Capital Market.
- 51:11Speaker 6: Hope to see you there. We'll start about 4 o'clock.
- 51:13Speaker 6: There's going to be a public meeting tonight about the
- 51:15Speaker 6: Clean Seas Project in Bell. Now, that is set for
- 51:18Speaker 6: 6 tonight at the Belltown Hall. It's located at the old,
- 51:21Speaker 6: it would be, the old 84 Lumber location. That's where
- 51:24Speaker 6: the plant would be or the facility. It would burn
- 51:28Speaker 6: plastic feedstock to create synthetic gas, and then it would
- 51:34Speaker 6: be used and then sold. The last meeting there was
- 51:37Speaker 6: a packed house, so if you have questions, comments, or
- 51:39Speaker 6: concerns about the meeting, it is tonight at the Belltown Hall.
