- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up
- 0:05Speaker 1: Good
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:09Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit, and welcome to your
- 0:13Speaker 1: long weekend. It's officially here. And tonight I cannot wait,
- 0:17Speaker 1: Satu Nada Satu Sutu. Shouldn't we be singing like Singapore
- 0:23Speaker 1: anthem or Singapore Indonesia sing our anthem. Singapore's number one
- 0:28Speaker 1: hit music station.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Your long weekend begins very soon. I know and maybe
- 0:36Speaker 1: over at the Causeway, it could be crowded already. People
- 0:39Speaker 1: trying to get into for a nice holiday or a
- 0:42Speaker 1: golfing holiday. Could be, yeah, long weekend vibes, you know, um,
- 0:46Speaker 1: I myself, I'm going for a day trip on Monday
- 0:48Speaker 1: just to Batam for like a paddle thing, some wellness
- 0:52Speaker 1: stuff going on there. They're opening a new facility, looking
- 0:55Speaker 1: really nice actually. I think many big things happening in Batam,
- 0:58Speaker 1: Bali and then.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Sometime in September, if I'm not wrong, there's that seaplane
- 1:03Speaker 1: looking thing that is going to launch by our friends
- 1:06Speaker 1: at ST Electronics. So that's gonna be taking you from
- 1:10Speaker 1: Singapore to Batang and back, but I was reading up
- 1:12Speaker 1: about it because we were booking our ferries and stuff, right?
- 1:15Speaker 1: And they said, yeah, it's not launched just yet, probably
- 1:18Speaker 1: in September, and it can fit about 8 people in
- 1:22Speaker 1: one ride with the uh.
- 1:23Speaker 1: That excludes the pilot. Do you know what it's called?
- 1:26Speaker 1: Can't remember wing something, something Air Air makes sense because
- 1:32Speaker 1: it's a seaplane. It's a hovercraft. There you go. Oh, not,
- 1:35Speaker 1: not a seaplane. OK. I mean they call it a hovercraft,
- 1:38Speaker 1: but essentially it looks like a seaplane plebeians call it
- 1:42Speaker 1: a seaplane. What seems to be looking like a 2027
- 1:46Speaker 1: wedding for medicine beer.
- 1:48Speaker 1: She officially got engaged, I think it was just a
- 1:51Speaker 1: couple of days ago actually, 28th of July, if I'm
- 1:54Speaker 1: not wrong. She announced, yeah, the proposal. So I don't
- 1:57Speaker 1: know whether maybe this was something that happened like earlier
- 1:59Speaker 1: and then she only shared it like a few months
- 2:01Speaker 1: later or what, but
- 2:03Speaker 1: Um, did a quick search and it seems like pop
- 2:05Speaker 1: singers dating NFL players are very in right now because
- 2:09Speaker 1: her fiance is also an NFL player. Um, he's younger though. He's,
- 2:14Speaker 1: he's uh, the Los Angeles Chargers quarterback and he's only 28.
- 2:19Speaker 1: She's only 27. I never realized that actually. Madison Beer.
- 2:23Speaker 1: She's very young. Yeah, she's only 27. So, um, they,
- 2:27Speaker 1: I think first were first spotted together in August of 2025.
- 2:32Speaker 1: So that's pretty far.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Yeah, they got engaged. Apparently their families are extremely excited.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Her mom is so happy about them getting engaged. So
- 2:38Speaker 1: does it say she's booking up Madison Square Garden as well? Well,
- 2:42Speaker 1: just because the name Madison, is it with people queuing
- 2:44Speaker 1: to pick up the leftovers of the food and all that.
- 2:47Speaker 1: That that was, that was weird for Taylor Swift's wedding,
- 2:50Speaker 1: but I don't know. I mean, this was just announced
- 2:53Speaker 1: like what, like in July, so it's only been a
- 2:55Speaker 1: week or so. Here's the thing, yeah, with a surname
- 2:59Speaker 1: like beer, yeah, do you think the beverage of choice?
- 3:02Speaker 1: Multiple beer sponsors. Actually, you know, the funny thing is,
- 3:05Speaker 1: what if she doesn't drink? Let me check. I'm sure
- 3:09Speaker 1: she does. She, she looks like the kind of girl
- 3:12Speaker 1: you want to party with for a while. You know,
- 3:14Speaker 1: you never really know. OK. Madison Beer does not drink alcohol.
- 3:19Speaker 1: She has stated in interviews that she does not consume
- 3:21Speaker 1: alcohol because she never built a tolerance. She didn't go
- 3:24Speaker 1: to regular high school parties and activities because I guess
- 3:27Speaker 1: of her work and just isn't a drinker. When she
- 3:30Speaker 1: goes to bars or social events, she has jokes.
- 3:33Speaker 1: About asking for non-alcoholic substitutes like ginger ale, like a mocktail. Yeah, yeah. See,
- 3:38Speaker 1: I had a feeling like when I looked at her,
- 3:40Speaker 1: I was like this girl doesn't look like she drinks. Hey,
- 3:42Speaker 1: you know what, well done medicine beer for acknowledging it
- 3:46Speaker 1: and not binge drinking and all that. No, and you
- 3:48Speaker 1: know what, I think at the end of the day,
- 3:50Speaker 1: it's also because of the fact that she has had
- 3:53Speaker 1: such a childhood, like she's worked, I'm guessing throughout her
- 3:56Speaker 1: teenage years, right? She's a very young star. So that's
- 3:59Speaker 1: probably one of the reasons. I mean, some people here
- 4:01Speaker 1: in Singapore, low tolerance.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Still go and drink. Are you talking about yourself? Like
- 4:07Speaker 1: when we're on our way to work every morning, sometimes
- 4:10Speaker 1: you lose track of like what day it is. You're just,
- 4:13Speaker 1: you just want to sleep. We're not walking or running
- 4:15Speaker 1: or driving. We're just floating to work, yeah, yeah, floating
- 4:18Speaker 1: to work. That's right, at that time of the morning.
- 4:20Speaker 1: But I don't think anyone is floating to school this
- 4:23Speaker 1: Friday morning because it's half day. It's National Day celebrations.
- 4:26Speaker 1: You could be having a carnival. So back then when
- 4:28Speaker 1: I was in school, I realized like every time we
- 4:30Speaker 1: know it's a half day, everyone's very energetic.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Yeah, but when it's like a normal full day, we're like, uh,
- 4:35Speaker 1: I mean, you get to come to school in red
- 4:37Speaker 1: or white. Hopefully they made that rule for you and
- 4:40Speaker 1: you know what, I, I really hope today is the
- 4:43Speaker 1: one day they let you use your phone to take
- 4:45Speaker 1: pictures and some memories of a carnival, we'll see. Or
- 4:49Speaker 1: maybe someone has like a designated like phone for the
- 4:52Speaker 1: pictures in the class or something I don't know. Yeah, anyway, um,
- 4:56Speaker 1: opening our phone lines right now, 669-11987. We'd love for you.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Call through and it has got to be an NDP
- 5:03Speaker 1: song today, for sure, 100%. Request for it and also
- 5:06Speaker 1: at just past 9:00 a.m. if you can tune in
- 5:08Speaker 1: to us and on TikTok Live as well. We've got
- 5:11Speaker 1: Gareth Fernandez and Drew Chen joining us. Good morning. I'm Ali. Hello.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Please, which school are you headed to this morning? SCGS
- 5:21Speaker 1: Singapore Chinese Girls' School. So what's happening today for the
- 5:24Speaker 1: National Day celebrations? We get a carnival.
- 5:28Speaker 1: What's your favorite thing to do at the carnival? The snack.
- 5:31Speaker 1: What song can we get you this morning and who
- 5:33Speaker 1: is it going out to? Giant. It's going out to
- 5:36Speaker 1: my father. Your dad, is he in the car with
- 5:40Speaker 1: you right now? Yes. Hi, morning. There you go. Alisa's
- 5:43Speaker 1: dad in a way, it's her giant. If you think
- 5:46Speaker 1: about it. This song is going out to the both
- 5:48Speaker 1: of you. Enjoy your day, OK? Take care. Thank you
- 5:50Speaker 1: so much. OK.
- 5:51Speaker 1: What happened on the roads that made you face palm? Alright,
- 5:54Speaker 1: if you're on the PIE on August 4th, which I
- 5:58Speaker 1: believe was Tuesday, three days ago, yeah. Yeah, Tuesday, and
- 6:02Speaker 1: you're realizing why is there a jam at 5:40 p.m.
- 6:07Speaker 1: on the PIE going towards Tuas? Nothing related to peak hour,
- 6:10Speaker 1: I mean, uh, aside from that, aside from that, there
- 6:14Speaker 1: was also a taxi.
- 6:15Speaker 1: That are rear-ended the worst car to hit on the
- 6:19Speaker 1: roads here in Singapore. Which government official or?
- 6:23Speaker 1: Which diplomat's car? Not exactly diplomat or government official, but
- 6:28Speaker 1: a police car. No, no. I mean, obviously there's no
- 6:34Speaker 1: getting out of that, but what, what happened actually? OK,
- 6:37Speaker 1: so there's no video evidence as of yet that's on
- 6:40Speaker 1: TikTok or the Rhodes SG page, but in a picture
- 6:44Speaker 1: you can see the taxi's bonnet clearly damaged big time.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Yeah, but can I say the police car, it's a
- 6:52Speaker 1: Poletar 2 Expressway patrol car. It did not appear to
- 6:56Speaker 1: have any damage. Wow. Oh, yeah, what is this car
- 7:00Speaker 1: made of? I want to know. The cab behind it
- 7:03Speaker 1: doesn't look like a regular cab. I think it's a
- 7:05Speaker 1: six-seater cab. Oh, OK, like a maxi maxi cab kind
- 7:08Speaker 1: of situation. OK. Oh well, I wonder how they're gonna
- 7:11Speaker 1: settle this insurance claim. I know, but I mean.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Rest assured there's enough evidence for the police car to
- 7:18Speaker 1: claim something. I'm pretty sure that only has 6 cameras
- 7:22Speaker 1: installed on it or something. You are absolutely right. It has, right?
- 7:25Speaker 1: It's on every, it covers every angle of the car
- 7:28Speaker 1: if I'm not wrong. Coming up in just a few minutes.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Remember how I asked you like whether or not there's
- 7:35Speaker 1: a National Day draw or something for Toto, to which
- 7:39Speaker 1: it's happening tonight. So there is 9:30 p.m. at $5 million.
- 7:43Speaker 1: You told me you don't have. Sorry, I didn't know.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Do I look like a gambler to you? Stop it.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Don't. Anyway, um, here in Singapore we have our own
- 7:53Speaker 1: version of that, right? Any special occasion, you know, CNY
- 7:57Speaker 1: and all that, like there's a hongpao draw, there's this
- 7:59Speaker 1: National Day jackpot or whatever they name it, I'm not sure,
- 8:02Speaker 1: but I want to take you across the causeway now
- 8:04Speaker 1: where I feel like I want to shake the hand
- 8:06Speaker 1: of this luckiest housewife ever. I want to dub her.
- 8:10Speaker 1: I'll tell you more in just a while, but once
- 8:12Speaker 1: you hear this story, yeah.
- 8:14Speaker 1: You, you want what she's having, I think. Whatever good
- 8:17Speaker 1: luck charm she has, we need it. Hey, how about
- 8:19Speaker 1: you shake my hand now and we can try some
- 8:21Speaker 1: numbers for tonight. This one, you might lose 5 million. So,
- 8:25Speaker 1: Joe and I were just talking about the National Day
- 8:27Speaker 1: total draw, OK, not that we're encouraging gambling, but
- 8:30Speaker 1: Of course with every like big occasion in Singapore, there
- 8:33Speaker 1: will be some sort of a draw, right? We are
- 8:35Speaker 1: not encouraging gambling. We are encouraging you to win. We're
- 8:38Speaker 1: encouraging winning $5 million just try one time, one time.
- 8:43Speaker 1: This sounds like a gambling ad to me.
- 8:47Speaker 1: You know, one of those like $5 million I get you,
- 8:50Speaker 1: I get you. I spent about $10 worth of numbers,
- 8:54Speaker 1: so hopefully maybe tonight something happens. I don't know if
- 8:56Speaker 1: the numbers that I gave you are any use, but
- 8:59Speaker 1: let's see, OK? We'll split it 50/50 if our ones.
- 9:01Speaker 1: So I won't, I won't come back to work on Tuesday, Monday,
- 9:04Speaker 1: I mean.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Let's see. Anyway, speaking of not going back to work,
- 9:10Speaker 1: I think for this particular lady, she can relax and
- 9:15Speaker 1: live quite a nice life already. But for the rest
- 9:17Speaker 1: of her life. I think it's possible. I think it's possible.
- 9:20Speaker 1: She's 50 years old, OK, she's a housewife. Um, 3
- 9:24Speaker 1: years ago, she actually won their equivalent of a toto.
- 9:28Speaker 1: So I'm not sure if they also call it toto.
- 9:30Speaker 1: I think they call it jackpot or something like that,
- 9:32Speaker 1: maybe a different name.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Um, so three years ago, she won almost half a
- 9:36Speaker 1: million dollars, Singapore dollars, OK. So 5000, about that. It
- 9:41Speaker 1: was like about 437,500, somewhere around that those lines, OK.
- 9:46Speaker 1: So then, uh, three years later, which is right now,
- 9:49Speaker 1: guess what? She touched again. She won another total jackpot.
- 9:53Speaker 1: This time around, it's $4 million Singapore dollars.
- 9:59Speaker 1: $4,047,039 that to be exact. So she's made the news
- 10:06Speaker 1: walking away with that amount of money on the 1st
- 10:08Speaker 1: of August. That means she's 11 to $12 million. Uh, yes,
- 10:14Speaker 1: you're right. Yeah, 12.95 million.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Yeah, if you, if you do the conversion over there.
- 10:20Speaker 1: I'm stunned because how did, how did this happen twice?
- 10:23Speaker 1: It's crazy. So, um, she shared that they, that she
- 10:27Speaker 1: and her husband both lost their jobs during COVID-19, um,
- 10:30Speaker 1: you know, difficult times and all that, and over the
- 10:32Speaker 1: next few years, they started buying computer lucky pick tickets.
- 10:37Speaker 1: That's what they call it, computer. But the stress during
- 10:39Speaker 1: that time of losing the job and all that took
- 10:41Speaker 1: a toll on her health and
- 10:43Speaker 1: I think she experienced, you know, lots of health issues. Um, I,
- 10:47Speaker 1: I think her husband will also often take her back
- 10:49Speaker 1: to places they visited in their younger days because she
- 10:51Speaker 1: had bad memory, um, she was forgetting certain things and
- 10:55Speaker 1: all that, very sweet love story, and all of a sudden, um,
- 10:59Speaker 1: during one of these trips to the park that they,
- 11:01Speaker 1: I guess they used to frequent, right, they sat down
- 11:04Speaker 1: for a meal and just decided, you know what, I'm
- 11:05Speaker 1: just going to buy a lucky Pic ticket at a
- 11:07Speaker 1: Toto outlet there, and that was the one that scored
- 11:09Speaker 1: their first big win. It was one of those random things.
- 11:13Speaker 1: So now, obviously, um her identity is not revealed, clearly,
- 11:16Speaker 1: but what she plans to do with the money is
- 11:19Speaker 1: to set up a retirement fund. She said she wants
- 11:21Speaker 1: to set up a portion to donate to some organizations
- 11:25Speaker 1: and vulnerable communities that may have experienced what she experienced
- 11:28Speaker 1: as well, and she wants to bring some joy to
- 11:30Speaker 1: other people's lives. Well done to this lady. So sweet, right?
- 11:34Speaker 1: And you mentioned earlier she had a bit of memory
- 11:36Speaker 1: problems here and there, right? After winning almost $4 million
- 11:39Speaker 1: Singapore dollars, you better remember your past life.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Or your bank account number, you better remember where you
- 11:46Speaker 1: put your password and all that. But congrats to her.
- 11:48Speaker 1: I'm very glad that her identity is not revealed. No,
- 11:51Speaker 1: they can't, I think because you're gonna get all these
- 11:53Speaker 1: long lost cousins or sisters who never knew, you could
- 11:57Speaker 1: be put in a dangerous or compromising situation. Yeah, thanks
- 12:01Speaker 1: for joining us this morning. So call me oblivious, but
- 12:05Speaker 1: sometimes it's very hard to keep track with many of
- 12:07Speaker 1: your different credits and all that that's going around, right? OK.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Did you know about your SG 60 active SG credits?
- 12:15Speaker 1: Because they're expiring at the end of this year. Have
- 12:18Speaker 1: you touched them?
- 12:20Speaker 1: I'm looking at what you can use it for. You
- 12:22Speaker 1: can book facilities and all that. You can. It's a,
- 12:25Speaker 1: it's $100 but there are other activities also. So you
- 12:29Speaker 1: do you know how to roller skate, like inline skating?
- 12:32Speaker 1: You don't know how to blade rollerblades. Oh, the one
- 12:35Speaker 1: with the 4, yeah, yours is inline skating. Yes, OK.
- 12:39Speaker 1: So you can actually learn things like inline skating. You
- 12:42Speaker 1: can go for like a K-pop fitness class, um, yoga.
- 12:46Speaker 1: You can do aqua tabata.
- 12:50Speaker 1: It's not, it's not like a boy band or anything.
- 12:52Speaker 1: It's like a workout in the pool, like HIT style
- 12:56Speaker 1: workout but in the pool. So that's pretty cool. There's
- 12:58Speaker 1: this thing called boogie bounce and um other classes as well. So, yeah,
- 13:03Speaker 1: rollerblading and so on. Your credits remain until the end
- 13:06Speaker 1: of 2026, but you have until the 31st of December
- 13:09Speaker 1: to use it. Don't waste it, um, offset your facility
- 13:12Speaker 1: bookings that you mentioned, you know, your gyms, swim passes.
- 13:16Speaker 1: I don't play badminton or pickle.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Just for that one sounds like a you problem. I
- 13:23Speaker 1: was gonna ask, is there a way to transfer? Actually
- 13:28Speaker 1: I wonder because for your CDC vouchers, I can hand
- 13:32Speaker 1: it over to my mom. I can pass her the
- 13:33Speaker 1: link because if she needs it more, you know, I'll
- 13:35Speaker 1: give her the supermarket ones at least.
- 13:37Speaker 1: So I'm sure this could be similar. I don't know.
- 13:41Speaker 1: We got to find out. We didn't even redeem ours.
- 13:43Speaker 1: If not, then it's OK. You'll find me signing up
- 13:45Speaker 1: for somewhat aqua classes maybe swimming class. You better learn
- 13:48Speaker 1: properly one time. I tried many times. Then, OK, yeah.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I tried to teach you also on the.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Disney cruise that was more of a crash course. Didn't work.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Can is can, but because I don't go to the
- 14:02Speaker 1: pool often, naturally you'll forget. No, it's muscle memory. It's
- 14:06Speaker 1: like driving, OK, or walking doesn't for me though.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Yes, OK, you have other talents, I'm sure. I'm sure
- 14:13Speaker 1: I do. Funny enough, we were just talking about your
- 14:17Speaker 1: Active SG vouchers. $100 worth of it and how it's
- 14:20Speaker 1: expiring at the end of this year, and we had
- 14:22Speaker 1: a number of people texting us in about that. And
- 14:26Speaker 1: some of you are actually telling us what you use
- 14:28Speaker 1: your Active SG vouchers for. There are other vouchers here
- 14:32Speaker 1: in Singapore as well, right? Like your pass. We got
- 14:35Speaker 1: the CDC vouchers.
- 14:38Speaker 1: We got the GST Usave vouchers and I think your
- 14:42Speaker 1: SG 60 vouchers, have they expired yet for some or all.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I can't remember because I think there might be some leftover, right?
- 14:51Speaker 1: I'm sure I've already. SG60 expiry date vouchers. OK, ready? Ready, ready.
- 14:58Speaker 1: It expires 31st December 2026. OK, so similar to this
- 15:03Speaker 1: um active.
- 15:05Speaker 1: So, we got a question for you this morning. If
- 15:07Speaker 1: you had the power to decide what you can use
- 15:11Speaker 1: your government-issued vouchers on, what would it be? Like, imagine
- 15:16Speaker 1: there are no rules about it. Like you can just
- 15:18Speaker 1: use it to buy anything or do anything that you want.
- 15:20Speaker 1: What would you use these vouchers to offset? Travel?
- 15:23Speaker 1: Oh really? You think so? Book a staycase somewhere in
- 15:26Speaker 1: Bali or Bintan. Yeah, if only, right, if they let
- 15:29Speaker 1: us use, but I mean it could offset like your
- 15:32Speaker 1: room 100 $200 if they say you must only use
- 15:36Speaker 1: it in Singapore, Singapore context, then maybe somewhere in Sentosa,
- 15:42Speaker 1: redeem one night at Capella. Sorry about that one. You
- 15:45Speaker 1: still got to pay another $600 or something. It's not
- 15:48Speaker 1: gonna be enough.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Give us a call 669-11987. If you had the power
- 15:54Speaker 1: to decide what to use your government-issued vouchers on. So
- 15:58Speaker 1: it can be anything, your CDC, your Active SG, whatever.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Let us know what you think. Get creative with it,
- 16:04Speaker 1: and you might walk away with a gift from Dyson.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Straight to our messages first before we get to the
- 16:09Speaker 1: phone lines and I guess in the spirit of being
- 16:11Speaker 1: absolutely Singaporean this National Day, and all these announcements about
- 16:16Speaker 1: please use your vouchers before they expire in December and
- 16:19Speaker 1: all that. We want to ask you this question. If
- 16:21Speaker 1: you had complete control over what you could spend,
- 16:24Speaker 1: Your government issued vouchers on, what would it be and why?
- 16:28Speaker 1: I think for your vouchers I use. I don't mind. I, OK,
- 16:34Speaker 1: I wouldn't mind using it to books though. Yeah, OK,
- 16:37Speaker 1: there you go. But the thing is, can we book?
- 16:39Speaker 1: That's the thing because they're not active SGs. They must
- 16:43Speaker 1: be the, yeah, exactly. OK.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Good morning on WhatsApp to Horo. Hello Horo. You say, morning,
- 16:53Speaker 1: Sonia and Joakim. If it's up to me, I will
- 16:54Speaker 1: use it on paying my bills, phone, electric, internet, transport,
- 16:59Speaker 1: all the things that suck up your monthly pay for sure.
- 17:02Speaker 1: And you know, it's the necessary things unfortunately, right? Like
- 17:06Speaker 1: there's no way around it. So and one coming in
- 17:08Speaker 1: from PJ I used it to get myself to the.
- 17:11Speaker 1: SG gym to restart my gymming regime after suffering yet
- 17:15Speaker 1: another chronic back injury. I've since gotten better and my
- 17:18Speaker 1: gym regime continues. It's a good motivation for me to
- 17:21Speaker 1: pick up myself. OK, that's done. You should be the
- 17:23Speaker 1: ambassador for Active SG, PJ, be careful of your deadlifts
- 17:27Speaker 1: and all that, yeah. Make sure your technique is right, yeah,
- 17:30Speaker 1: because sometimes it can blow your back. I can't relate.
- 17:33Speaker 1: I don't really do deadlifts.
- 17:36Speaker 1: I do other things. What about squats? Squats, yeah, yeah.
- 17:40Speaker 1: Squats is fine, yeah. Anyway, when we come back, we've
- 17:42Speaker 1: got a couple of callers hanging on the line. Still
- 17:44Speaker 1: time for you to get your messages in. 90050987 and
- 17:49Speaker 1: all these announcements about please use your vouchers before they
- 17:53Speaker 1: expire in December and all that. We want to ask
- 17:55Speaker 1: you this question. If you had complete control over what
- 17:58Speaker 1: you could spend,
- 17:59Speaker 1: Your government issued vouchers on, what would it be and why?
- 18:03Speaker 1: I think for your vouchers I will still use active
- 18:06Speaker 1: ones I don't mind donating. I, OK, I wouldn't mind
- 18:10Speaker 1: using it to book paddle ds though. Yeah, OK, there
- 18:12Speaker 1: you go. But the thing is, can we book paddle?
- 18:15Speaker 1: That's the thing because they're not active SG cords. They
- 18:18Speaker 1: must be under the, yeah, exactly. OK.
- 18:23Speaker 1: Say good morning on WhatsApp to Horo. Hello Horo. You say, morning,
- 18:28Speaker 1: Sonia and Joakim. If it's up to me, I will
- 18:30Speaker 1: use it on paying my bills, phone, electric, internet, transport,
- 18:34Speaker 1: all the things that suck up your monthly pay for sure.
- 18:38Speaker 1: And you know, it's the necessary things unfortunately, right? Like
- 18:41Speaker 1: there's no way around it. So and one coming in
- 18:43Speaker 1: from PJ. I used it to get myself to the.
- 18:46Speaker 1: SG gym to restart my gyming regime after suffering yet
- 18:50Speaker 1: another chronic back injury. I've since gotten better and my
- 18:53Speaker 1: gym regime continues. It's a good motivation for me to
- 18:56Speaker 1: pick up myself. OK, done. You should be the ambassador
- 18:59Speaker 1: for Active SG, PJ, be careful of your deadlifts and
- 19:02Speaker 1: all that, yeah. Make sure your technique is right, yeah,
- 19:06Speaker 1: because sometimes it can blow your back. Oh, can't relate.
- 19:08Speaker 1: I don't really do deadlifts.
- 19:11Speaker 1: I do other things. What about squats? Squats, yeah, yeah.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Squats is fine, yeah. Anyway, when we come back, we've
- 19:17Speaker 1: got a couple of callers hanging on the line. Still
- 19:19Speaker 1: time for you to get your messages in. 90050987. Lots
- 19:24Speaker 1: of response coming through right now because when it comes
- 19:27Speaker 1: down to government-issued vouchers, we're very passionate about it, as Singaporeans, right?
- 19:31Speaker 1: We want to utilize it, use it, but sometimes,
- 19:34Speaker 1: Some of them we may let them go to waste
- 19:36Speaker 1: because the expiry is coming up very soon, right? OK,
- 19:39Speaker 1: so I checked, you are not able to donate your
- 19:41Speaker 1: active SG credits or vouchers pass it on to someone.
- 19:44Speaker 1: No you can't. So if anybody wants to play badminton
- 19:47Speaker 1: or just use mine. Let me know. OK, then you
- 19:50Speaker 1: have to do the booking to show up and say, OK, yeah,
- 19:53Speaker 1: these guys are under me, and then you go home
- 19:55Speaker 1: after that. No, I can't. I have to stay there.
- 19:57Speaker 1: And make sure they don't destroy the cord and treat
- 19:59Speaker 1: the cord with care, because if not, it's my responsibility.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Your SingPass is tied to it. Now I'm thinking twice. Anyway,
- 20:05Speaker 1: the question is, if you had the power to decide
- 20:07Speaker 1: what to do with your vouchers, uh, what would it be?
- 20:09Speaker 1: We got one text coming in, no username at all,
- 20:12Speaker 1: but you say, morning, Sojo. I've used the vouchers mostly
- 20:15Speaker 1: for my kids to buy their school essentials and toys
- 20:19Speaker 1: at neighborhood stores.
- 20:20Speaker 1: If I was the person with the power to decide
- 20:22Speaker 1: on its usage, maybe I would let it be transferable
- 20:25Speaker 1: to my kids who are in primary school. Sometimes there's
- 20:27Speaker 1: excursions that requires fees and even book fairs in school
- 20:31Speaker 1: that happen before we get our monthly pay, so I
- 20:34Speaker 1: hope they can use that. True. That's nice. Yeah. One
- 20:37Speaker 1: more time, one more coming in from Dom. Dom says,
- 20:40Speaker 1: Good morning, Sonia and Joakim, Bishan guru.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Yeah, self-proclaimed. For me it's to purchase more Gatsby gels
- 20:47Speaker 1: and applied nutrition protein powders. That's so specific, but I
- 20:51Speaker 1: guess it's something he uses every day. Maybe that's, I mean,
- 20:53Speaker 1: go to an active gym and they sell protein powders. Yeah,
- 20:57Speaker 1: can you use your vouchers to buy from that gym?
- 20:59Speaker 1: I'm curious. I don't know. Farhan is on the line
- 21:01Speaker 1: right now. What do you think? I think
- 21:03Speaker 2: I'll use it to offset the prices of COE, but
- 21:06Speaker 1: I don't know how much can that help though. Yeah,
- 21:09Speaker 2: but, but we can accumulate with family members or your
- 21:11Speaker 2: friends or colleagues or whoever.
- 21:13Speaker 2: combine it, offset a few $1000 or so.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Oh wow. But then you have to convince your family
- 21:21Speaker 1: members and your relatives to like, hey, do you think
- 21:23Speaker 1: you can pass it to me? I mean, will they
- 21:24Speaker 1: say yes? Yeah,
- 21:26Speaker 2: you can be their chauffeur or whatever. I mean,
- 21:29Speaker 1: it's a trade-off. Like, the amount of tongs you have
- 21:32Speaker 1: to do good luck for free. Exactly. Thank you so
- 21:38Speaker 1: much for your call. You have a great day. OK.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Bye bye.
- 21:42Speaker 1: More messages. We've got tons of texts coming through right now.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Our question was, if you had complete control over what
- 21:48Speaker 1: you can spend your government-issued vouchers on, what would it,
- 21:52Speaker 1: what would it be? Wanna say hello to Chin Hong
- 21:55Speaker 1: on WhatsApp. Hello both. I believe everyone has the same
- 21:58Speaker 1: issue of needing to monitor when their vouchers and the
- 22:01Speaker 1: government will be having, and hopefully we can view it
- 22:05Speaker 1: all at one page and also when it's expiring. OK, OK,
- 22:08Speaker 1: so you're talking about like the accessibility of it.
- 22:11Speaker 1: As for the vouchers, they should cater us an amount
- 22:14Speaker 1: perhaps to split into other components, and whatever we spend
- 22:17Speaker 1: is still contributing to our local businesses. And as for
- 22:20Speaker 1: what we can spend on things like our SP bills
- 22:23Speaker 1: or even flight tickets, if it's flight tickets, does it
- 22:27Speaker 1: only mean Scoot or Singapore Airlines? Maybe you have to
- 22:29Speaker 1: support in a way, right? One more coming in from
- 22:32Speaker 1: EL Morning, Sonia and Joakim. Happy National Day. Long weekend
- 22:35Speaker 1: to you both. Thank you very much, EL. If only
- 22:38Speaker 1: we can use our government vouchers for entertainment.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Like concerts and F1. OK, we have the culture pass.
- 22:43Speaker 1: I was gonna say that, but I think she means
- 22:45Speaker 1: that your international acts like BTS coming. Oh, use the
- 22:47Speaker 1: vouchers to buy tickets. OK, I would say I like
- 22:50Speaker 1: the idea of the culture though, OK, because it supports
- 22:53Speaker 1: your local films and your local like performances and all that,
- 22:56Speaker 1: and she carries on saying from queuing hours for merchandise
- 22:59Speaker 1: and then sound checks and then squeezing in those standing
- 23:01Speaker 1: pens for hours when you can hardly feel the air
- 23:03Speaker 1: when you're inside, those are like mini workout days. True, true,
- 23:07Speaker 1: it's like a sauna, like a mobile sauna.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Anyway, we've got more callers coming up. Michelle is waiting
- 23:13Speaker 1: to be heard. Thank you for your patience, Michelle. Thanks
- 23:15Speaker 1: for joining us this morning. Time for your last few
- 23:18Speaker 1: messages and Michelle who's hanging on the line. OK, so
- 23:20Speaker 1: what would you use your vouchers on? Wow, this one
- 23:22Speaker 1: I haven't really thought about. If you've not used it already. I,
- 23:25Speaker 1: the thing is, I love using it at the hawker
- 23:28Speaker 1: center and the supermarket, so I have no complaints there. None.
- 23:31Speaker 1: I was half expecting you to say like.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Um, I don't think they will go there on your
- 23:36Speaker 1: favorite alcoholic beverage, to be realistic, I don't think maybe
- 23:39Speaker 1: to help Singapore's nightlife, we should, you know, pump some
- 23:41Speaker 1: money there. But the only beer you can drink is
- 23:43Speaker 1: Tiger beer for me though. Oh yes, a nice series,
- 23:48Speaker 1: by the way. OK, I want to say good morning
- 23:50Speaker 1: to Glenn. Glenn says if I could use my government
- 23:53Speaker 1: vouchers for anything, I will use them to buy back
- 23:56Speaker 1: little pieces.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Of Singapore for our wildlife or I'm guessing uh inspired
- 24:01Speaker 1: by whatever's happening over at Maju Forest. 11 voucher, one
- 24:05Speaker 1: tiny patch of the forest. Actually, what could be useful is,
- 24:08Speaker 1: you know, a lot of adoption drives going to happen soon.
- 24:11Speaker 1: If only some of it could be used to like
- 24:13Speaker 1: donate to them for like supplies because they're always looking
- 24:16Speaker 1: for donors for food and and all that the topic
- 24:19Speaker 1: about dogs, there are a couple of.
- 24:20Speaker 1: saying, oh, I will use the vouchers to offset my
- 24:22Speaker 1: pets Makan, the kibbles and all that. It's expensive, you know.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Every time I look at Maxi, I'm like, girl, you're
- 24:27Speaker 1: not even paying rent. That's why my next life, what
- 24:30Speaker 1: are you doing? My next life, I want to be
- 24:32Speaker 1: a dog to someone staying at 6th Avenue. Yes, yeah.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Can we be neighbors? That could be quite funny. OK,
- 24:37Speaker 1: I'll be the Doberman. You'll be the chihuahua. What? And
- 24:39Speaker 1: uh we've got Michelle on the line right now. What
- 24:42Speaker 1: would you use your vouchers for?
- 24:44Speaker 1: I'm gonna be super lame. I'm gonna tell you that
- 24:46Speaker 1: I'm gonna invest. Wow, that's not lame at all. OK,
- 24:50Speaker 1: I mean, tell us more, girl. Um, well, I don't know,
- 24:52Speaker 1: I might buy some Singapore bank stocks, we put it
- 24:55Speaker 1: back into the, the, the, the country, right? And, and, well,
- 24:59Speaker 1: earn the money and then maybe use the dividends from.
- 25:02Speaker 1: instead of using the capital. Yeah, you know what, you
- 25:04Speaker 1: are smart because you're also going safe, you know, not,
- 25:07Speaker 1: not too risky. I hear our friends over at DBS saying, Michelle,
- 25:10Speaker 1: call us. Michelle, we are here now. Yeah, I can imagine.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Imagine all the RMs like reaching out to her after this.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Thank you so much for your call, Michelle. Have a
- 25:22Speaker 1: great day. Thank you, thank you. I just wanted to
- 25:24Speaker 1: tell you guys, my daughter loves you guys. We listen
- 25:27Speaker 1: to you guys. Thank you. And what's her name? Uh,
- 25:30Speaker 1: she's Rebecca. She goes to IJ Toa Payoh, and yeah,
- 25:32Speaker 1: I know you guys have been there before, so yeah,
- 25:34Speaker 1: she's in love with you guys. Please send her our love. Yeah,
- 25:38Speaker 1: give her, give her a hug for us, OK? Have
- 25:40Speaker 1: a great weekend. Take care, Michelle. Bye-bye. On that note,
- 25:44Speaker 1: only one person is walking away with.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Final prize of the week thanks to Dyson. It's the
- 25:49Speaker 1: Dyson hush jet in Carnelian Sky. We are both using
- 25:53Speaker 1: it and it's kept me cool backstage for NDP. Yeah,
- 25:56Speaker 1: it's really like air conditioned under a very hot and
- 25:57Speaker 1: humid stage. I actually brought it while I was vacationing
- 26:02Speaker 1: in south of France and you know, Euroummer is very hot.
- 26:04Speaker 1: I'm telling you first. Like it's, it's mad hot. It's
- 26:06Speaker 1: even hotter than Singapore, just that it's dry, so you
- 26:09Speaker 1: have the fan, it works. So when I say Carnelian sky.
- 26:13Speaker 1: In English, it's red, but the official color is Carnelian sky.
- 26:16Speaker 1: It's a Singapore special, so we hope that you can
- 26:19Speaker 1: get your hands on it. If you don't win it,
- 26:21Speaker 1: it's available at all Dyson outlets, official retailers and online.
- 26:24Speaker 1: So let's give it to Michelle who called.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Congrats, Michelle. Really hope that you enjoy your long weekend
- 26:31Speaker 1: and hopefully you can collect it before you, uh, go
- 26:33Speaker 1: off to do whatever picnic you want to do with
- 26:35Speaker 1: your daughter. Michelle saying that she wants to invest the
- 26:37Speaker 1: vouchers and hopefully earn some dividends. Yeah, love that for you. Alright,
- 26:41Speaker 1: congrats again, tag us in your photos. OK. Um, unfortunately,
- 26:45Speaker 1: we can only reminisce good times when it comes to
- 26:48Speaker 1: this particular piece of food news today. It's.
- 26:51Speaker 1: I know unfortunately I know, I know, but hey, the
- 26:55Speaker 1: good thing is that all your favorite chains out there
- 26:58Speaker 1: have their own National Day menu and dishes, you know,
- 27:01Speaker 1: like even friends at McDonald's and all that, they've got
- 27:04Speaker 1: their own stuff, right? But this one I wanted to
- 27:07Speaker 1: really address it because they've been around for 20 years. OK,
- 27:09Speaker 1: you ready? Let's go. Here we go. 123, news.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Food news. So sad news. What happened? So I'm sure
- 27:19Speaker 1: you have walked around Robertson when you maybe go on
- 27:23Speaker 1: a date or like, you know, just take a walk
- 27:25Speaker 1: around the river. I'm sure you have before, right? I
- 27:27Speaker 1: mean some parts are undergoing renovations, but only 11 portion.
- 27:31Speaker 1: So the river area is unblocked. Can I ask, is
- 27:33Speaker 1: there or they moved to somewhere along Mohammad Sultan. They
- 27:37Speaker 1: are still around. So I'm sure that prior to that
- 27:41Speaker 1: specific area, which was Fraser's.
- 27:43Speaker 1: Apartments, I think, being torn down. There were some um
- 27:46Speaker 1: tenants there that moved. They already found a place to
- 27:48Speaker 1: move to. Yeah. So that, that's the only portion that's affected.
- 27:52Speaker 1: The rest of Robertsuki is still very much open, didn't
- 27:55Speaker 1: get affected. However, if you've walked around the river after
- 27:59Speaker 1: your dinner on a date or something, you would have
- 28:02Speaker 1: noticed this cafe and chocolate bar called Laurent. Do you
- 28:06Speaker 1: remember it? They've been there for like 20 years. They've
- 28:09Speaker 1: got chocolates. I think they've got ice creams or ice
- 28:11Speaker 1: cream as well, desserts and everything.
- 28:13Speaker 1: It used to be like a bit of a tradition
- 28:14Speaker 1: for us to just go eat and then we'll stop
- 28:17Speaker 1: by for an ice cream or dessert and we'll take
- 28:19Speaker 1: a walk around the the river, which is what I
- 28:22Speaker 1: see a lot of people doing.
- 28:24Speaker 1: 20 long years they've been there um by French pastry
- 28:28Speaker 1: chef Laurent Bernard, that's actually his name, and his wife,
- 28:31Speaker 1: they opened in 2006. Unfortunately, they are closing and calling
- 28:36Speaker 1: it a day after 20 long years. Lots of problems
- 28:40Speaker 1: with the rent. I think they had some outstanding rent also,
- 28:43Speaker 1: it's been very, very, very challenging.
- 28:45Speaker 1: And uh he did say he's very upset because for
- 28:48Speaker 1: 20 years you would have thought the relationship would stand
- 28:51Speaker 1: for something, but I think a new landlord has taken over. OK,
- 28:54Speaker 1: very unfortunate. Mr. Bernard, I'm gonna say this. What Robertson
- 28:58Speaker 1: Key can't appreciate, I mean, the landlords, go to the east, Chet.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Oh yeah, perfect. We got plenty there. I think Chet
- 29:05Speaker 1: will love you. Yeah, so I think um what he
- 29:08Speaker 1: He said really hit us in the fields because he
- 29:10Speaker 1: said the biggest loss is not the financial part of it.
- 29:13Speaker 1: It's actually emotional because I think he's got so much
- 29:17Speaker 1: feelings and memories tied to this. 20 years, that's like
- 29:20Speaker 1: half your life, you know, for some people, like, I
- 29:22Speaker 1: think at his age, half his life, he's been running
- 29:24Speaker 1: this business. Did they say when is the last day
- 29:26Speaker 1: or whatsoever? Yeah, so he told um 8 Days.sg, which
- 29:30Speaker 1: by the way.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Shout out to Eight Days Eat because they always cover,
- 29:33Speaker 1: they're the first ones to cover very in-depth details about
- 29:35Speaker 1: food-related stuff. Um, they will continue operating online as much
- 29:39Speaker 1: as they can, but he has no plans to open
- 29:42Speaker 1: another cafe for now. So that's just the unfortunate thing.
- 29:45Speaker 1: If you want to go check it out, the last
- 29:47Speaker 1: day is the 12th of August. So I know, just
- 29:51Speaker 1: a few days left to go. Less than a week.
- 29:54Speaker 1: To go. Alright. All the best. Thank you for the
- 29:56Speaker 1: memories and we will continue to support you online if
- 29:59Speaker 1: we can. Now, before we let you go, I just
- 30:01Speaker 1: want to say all the best for this weekend, Joe.
- 30:03Speaker 1: I mean, we've been talking about NDP this whole morning
- 30:06Speaker 1: because of Gareth and Drew as well here in the studio.
- 30:08Speaker 1: I think they are riled up, ready to go. I mean, they're,
- 30:11Speaker 1: they're very excited for the performance. Um, just because I
- 30:14Speaker 1: didn't get to be there in person this year.
- 30:17Speaker 1: If the weather holds up, all's good, but if it
- 30:20Speaker 1: does have a little bit of drizzle here and there,
- 30:22Speaker 1: it's mostly sheltered, right? Is it? So people at the
- 30:24Speaker 1: yellow where I affectionately call it the opening of the
- 30:29Speaker 1: National Stadium, I can visualize it. Yeah, that's where you
- 30:32Speaker 1: might experience a little bit of rain. So I think
- 30:35Speaker 1: in your NDP packs there are the ponchos. Take it up,
- 30:38Speaker 1: put it on, and carry on to enjoy the show. Actually, sometimes,
- 30:40Speaker 1: you know, a little bit doesn't really matter if you
- 30:42Speaker 1: recall when Coldplay performed, it started pouring.
- 30:45Speaker 1: You recall that? Yeah, and somehow it added on to his, uh,
- 30:48Speaker 1: his moment. I mean, the, the moments are there, but
- 30:50Speaker 1: you know, one or two people will post the video
- 30:53Speaker 1: of like the water flowing down on TikTok, and then
- 30:55Speaker 1: it overshadows and it spoils the vibe of NDP. So again,
- 31:00Speaker 1: on Sunday, if you have tickets, please be seated by 5:30.
- 31:05Speaker 1: Don't go there at 5:30. Go early, have a book
- 31:09Speaker 1: on standby. Download some of your favorite shows. Go in
- 31:11Speaker 1: the stadium.
- 31:12Speaker 1: Early, get the best seats. Enjoy the cool air. I
- 31:15Speaker 1: think the air conditioning is turned on in the stadium. OK.
- 31:18Speaker 1: In fact, I think if you go earlier, you will
- 31:20Speaker 1: actually feel more, you know, chill and calm and not
- 31:25Speaker 1: so anxious on or off, no la. Yeah, it's a
- 31:27Speaker 1: river for you regardless. Sail down the river that brings
- 31:32Speaker 1: us life. So yeah, that's what it is, but we'll
- 31:35Speaker 1: be watching. So all the best and I think we'll
- 31:38Speaker 1: all collectively have a lot of fun. Thank you.
