- 0:33Welcome to the drive through episode number 13.
- 0:36This is our monthly recap, where we put together a menu of automotive,
- 0:39motorsport, and random car adjacent news.
- 0:42Now let's pull up to the window.
- 0:44For some automotive news,
- 0:45you know, guys, I've been looking over August and I thought it was
- 0:49going to be an absolute bust.
- 0:52We just had nothing but piles of recalls and halted productions and chip shortages.
- 0:58And I didn't know what we were going to talk about this month, but the
- 1:00magic of the interwebs and of the automotive world itself never ceases.
- 1:05And you know what we're going to kick off this month talking about?
- 1:08Lamborghini.
- 1:10That's right, Lambos!
- 1:12There's all sorts of news aflutter this month about Lamborghini,
- 1:16our favorite tractor builder.
- 1:19So what's in store there, Brad?
- 1:21They've announced that they're going to come up with a successor to the Aventador.
- 1:26It's going to be a V12 hybrid.
- 1:28Their second hybrid, not to be confused with the Ceyon FKP and the Ceyon Roadster.
- 1:34Is that, am I pronouncing that correctly?
- 1:35Ceyan.
- 1:36Ceyan, Ceyon, I don't remember.
- 1:37Two cars that I had actually never heard of until this article.
- 1:40So the Aventador is a little longer than the two.
- 1:43So they're replacing it.
- 1:45And of course it's going to have hybrid technology, the hybrid technology that's
- 1:48in the cyan or Cion or Cion in the Cylon.
- 1:52Is that the XB or the
- 1:53TC?
- 1:55This is the, this is the, the lunchbox, but apparently they said
- 1:58that it's not up to par with the.
- 2:01What they see for the future of hybrid technology.
- 2:04So
- 2:04you mean what Rimac is building
- 2:06what we talked about last month?
- 2:07Yeah.
- 2:07Whatever Audi and Porsche have, uh, concocted, have, have, have contracted
- 2:11for the Lamborghini to be doing.
- 2:13So the, the technology that's going to be in the new car is not
- 2:16going to be the same technology that's in the thes FK 47 Roadster.
- 2:22Touchdown.
- 2:23Hike.
- 2:23Hike, hike.
- 2:24Nice.
- 2:24Well, on the other side of that, you know, we did.
- 2:27Allude to in the past that Lamborghini was going to come up with a hybrid and to your
- 2:30point, this is the second car that they're proposing with this hybrid technology.
- 2:34I'm really impressed that they're bringing back a V12.
- 2:38I mean, in today's age of let's go in the opposite direction and go quad turbo V6,
- 2:44having a V12, I thought they were dead.
- 2:46I thought they were gone the way of the Dodo bird, kind of interested
- 2:48to see where this goes and why, and if it even really comes to fruition.
- 2:52Well, speaking of quad turbo V6, the Huracan successor.
- 2:56Is allegedly going to have a hybrid V6.
- 2:59I believe that's what I saw.
- 3:01Interesting.
- 3:01And that's not the Countach.
- 3:03No, that's completely separate from the Countach, which I believe is also
- 3:06utilizes a V12, but a small electric motor for, you know, powering the.
- 3:12the sun visors or the, you know, the lipstick lights or
- 3:16whatever you get in the car.
- 3:18So since we brought it up, that's the biggest buzz in
- 3:20Lamborghini this month by far.
- 3:22Let's talk about the new Countach, you know, the one, the only epic
- 3:27music video car of all time.
- 3:29Does the new one really stack up with.
- 3:32Our hero, our icon, the David Hasselhoff of automobiles.
- 3:46I hope no copyright lawyers are listening to this right now.
- 3:51I personally.
- 3:52Love, love, love, love.
- 3:55I'm looking for a poster of it as we speak.
- 3:57Love the new Kudosh.
- 3:59I think it's amazing.
- 4:00As a rebadged Aventador, you're absolutely right.
- 4:02I have a few.
- 4:03The front is
- 4:05on point.
- 4:06Yes, I agree.
- 4:07Better than the original.
- 4:08I mean, it's okay.
- 4:10I don't like the back.
- 4:11The back reminds me of the Decepticons in the live action Transformers movies.
- 4:16Like the way their mechanical eyeballs are, it looks like a Decepticon
- 4:19staring at you from the back.
- 4:21To your point, it took me a minute to figure out the rear end of that car.
- 4:25And actually it's very similar to a car we're going to talk about here in a
- 4:28little bit, which is the Bugatti Divo.
- 4:30I take a bunch of issues with the new Countach.
- 4:32First of all, like we talked about in the past, there's other manufacturers
- 4:37That have been very successful at taking classic designs and making them modern.
- 4:41Let's just go with Chrysler as an example.
- 4:43I think Lamborghini could have done a real salute, a real heritage car and taken
- 4:50the LP 500 QV and just duplicated it.
- 4:54And gone from there.
- 4:55Now, I get that that doesn't fit this 25 year old Audi R8 chassis that
- 5:00they've been recycling now on every Lamborghini since the Volkswagen
- 5:04Audi Group bought Lamborghini.
- 5:06And so I get it.
- 5:07It's got to fit those dimensions.
- 5:08But when you look at the press photos of the original car, even the LP 500
- 5:14next to the new one, it is ginormous.
- 5:17It just needed to put a wang on the back.
- 5:19Wang definitely would have helped and it would need to be the wing from the,
- 5:23uh, the LP 500, you know, the big like airplane wing on the back, but that scoop
- 5:27on the side looks like a second window.
- 5:30And it just, it irritates me.
- 5:32I don't like the fender cuts.
- 5:33Like we had talked about internally.
- 5:36It reminds me of the Jalpa.
- 5:37It doesn't really remind me of the Kuntosh, the way they
- 5:39cut those angular fenders.
- 5:41There's definitely.
- 5:42Pieces and parts of other cars in the design, but at the end of the day, if
- 5:46you read some of the comments, even on Instagram and some of the other social
- 5:50media platforms, people are like, yeah, that's a great redo of the Aventador.
- 5:54Does it really speak to the Countach?
- 5:56And to your point, front on?
- 5:58Absolutely.
- 6:00I'm just, I struggle with everything else.
- 6:02I can see your point that it should not be called the Kosh, and if it
- 6:07was not called the Kunta, would your perception be any different?
- 6:12How, I think the Isador isn't, the Aventador more is newer.
- 6:16Way Newer, yeah.
- 6:17Yeah.
- 6:18So I mean, this isn't a, I mean, this isn't, this would be
- 6:20like an evolution of the Aventador.
- 6:22Yeah.
- 6:22You could say an evolution, but it's not a redo.
- 6:24I mean, it doesn't, yeah.
- 6:25Yes, they all have similar wedge body shapes, but I do think it hearkens
- 6:30more to a Countach than the Aventador.
- 6:32I agree.
- 6:33But to Brad's point, we've seen it before, you know, somebody comes
- 6:35to the table with a new Mustang, and you go, oh, it's an Evolution.
- 6:39Yeah, but wouldn't you just say the Aventador is nothing
- 6:41but a Countach Evolution?
- 6:43Or is it
- 6:43a
- 6:43Diablo
- 6:44evolution?
- 6:45Which is a Countach evolution.
- 6:47Yeah, I mean, yes, they all go back to that.
- 6:48I mean, for a while there, they only
- 6:50made one car at a time.
- 6:51That's very true.
- 6:53They made many different variations of that car, but
- 6:57they made one vehicle at a time.
- 6:58Going back to your point about the name, the name carries a lot of weight.
- 7:02So certain cars, like, let's say the Esprit, if suddenly Lotus brought that out
- 7:07and you, and you're doing this whole thing compared the old to the new, you know,
- 7:11is the sequel as good as the original.
- 7:13Right.
- 7:13And that's kind of what we're, we're talking about here.
- 7:16Performance wise, visibility wise, handling wise.
- 7:19It's all the electronic goodies.
- 7:21The new Kuntosh is going to be a thousand times better than the old one.
- 7:24Hands down.
- 7:24We all know that for a performance perspective.
- 7:27I've heard that the old ones are terrible to drive.
- 7:29You can't see out of them.
- 7:30All that aside, that's the point.
- 7:32They're awesome and they're bonkers and everything else.
- 7:35So maybe it'll grow on me when I see it in person.
- 7:39I like that it's white, just like some of the, you know, the older Kuntosh.
- 7:42I mean, they
- 7:44already made a new Esprit in 2014.
- 7:46So that example is poor.
- 7:49Is that the Evora?
- 7:50I don't know.
- 7:50It says 2014 Lotus Esprit debut.
- 7:53Did that ever come to market?
- 7:55I
- 7:55think it was just a concept car.
- 7:56I think it was a concept car too.
- 7:57Yeah.
- 7:58I think, I think that evolved into the Evora.
- 8:01Yeah, I think so too.
- 8:02But I mean, there's other names.
- 8:04If I said Lancia Stratos, you know, I, I don't know.
- 8:07There's, there's a bunch.
- 8:08I,
- 8:09I agree that there are Some cars that are iconic, they're of such a
- 8:14level that you're killing yourself if you try to do a redo of them.
- 8:19Right.
- 8:19The Countach is one.
- 8:21The Corvettes, I mean they I don't know.
- 8:24I, it's definitely one of them, but I was thinking like a nine, five, nine,
- 8:27four, um, Porsche, you can never have another nine, five, nine Porsche is
- 8:32weird because all their names are numbers or, but you never have another
- 8:36F 40, the F 50 was supposed to be an evolution of that, but I don't know.
- 8:39But, but I think you understand my point.
- 8:41There are some names that are so iconic that we do it in
- 8:45the sports world all the time.
- 8:46You see somebody.
- 8:47A player that is so good.
- 8:49They're in the hall of fame.
- 8:50Their number is retired.
- 8:51I feel like these names for automobiles should be retired.
- 8:55Exactly.
- 8:56The perfect example of bad naming convention is the Mustang Mach E.
- 9:02What
- 9:03about the Mitsubishi?
- 9:05Eclipse.
- 9:06SUV.
- 9:07SAV.
- 9:08Oh my god.
- 9:09Oh, please stop.
- 9:10But just to the point, talking about Lamborghini, say they introduce the
- 9:14Miura again, you're like, uh, I mean, again, that's another name that I
- 9:18think is, is hallowed and sacred in the halls of automotive history.
- 9:21Like you can't have another Miura unless it really is super
- 9:25close to the original one.
- 9:27Right.
- 9:27And I, I feel, Like that with the Countach.
- 9:29Now you could flip the coin the other way, and let's talk about the Alfa
- 9:33Romeo 4C, which is supposed to be the redo of the Alfa 33 Stradale.
- 9:39I see the hints and the homage, but they weren't as ballsy to say, well, we're
- 9:44just going to call it the 33 Stradale.
- 9:46They said, here's the 4C, it's a new model.
- 9:49It takes its influence from this vintage race car, but
- 9:52it's not really the same thing.
- 9:54It's a hard pill to swallow, but like I said, maybe when we see it
- 9:57in person, it'll do it justice.
- 9:59Maybe it looks different.
- 10:00Some cars don't photograph the best.
- 10:02Although the Kuntosh photographs pretty damn well.
- 10:06All I know is if somebody can help me find high res versions of some of
- 10:10these images, so I can turn them into.
- 10:12That
- 10:15would be no, I mean, like legit posters for my wall behind me,
- 10:18I can find you guys some high res pictures of Fierro stuff.
- 10:21So we got that covered.
- 10:22All right,
- 10:23what kind of contain on the, on the, on the hood.
- 10:27So moving on a little bit coming from completely out of left field
- 10:32is a Lamborghini that is now being referred to as the jump a con.
- 10:36That's not a comic con.
- 10:38No, no, it's not a
- 10:39convention.
- 10:40No, no, the jump a
- 10:41con.
- 10:42So
- 10:42I was like, wait a minute.
- 10:43What is this all about?
- 10:44So I click on this and I go into it and I find out 2 kind of interesting things.
- 10:481.
- 10:49there was a race that I'd never heard of before.
- 10:52And apparently it's been going on since 1968 in the deserts of Las Vegas.
- 10:56It's known as the mint 400.
- 10:58the mint used to be a casino hotel in Vegas.
- 11:01And now it doesn't exist anymore.
- 11:03I don't know which hotel it's become these many years later, but this is
- 11:06touted as the longest running hotel.
- 11:08American off road race.
- 11:09I don't know how that plays in versus Pike's Peak, but still, you know,
- 11:13let's just say let's follow that.
- 11:14You know, maybe we'll dig into that story a little bit more at a later date and then
- 11:18comes to the table in conjunction with the 2021 running of the mint 400 is this
- 11:24group called B is for build and you'll find them online, YouTube, et cetera.
- 11:27They're known for building all sorts of extreme cars and they decided to
- 11:31build an off road Lamborghini Huracan.
- 11:35And so when you look at this thing.
- 11:36You start to realize there's only a few pieces on it that
- 11:39are actually Lamborghini.
- 11:41It's very low to the ground.
- 11:42You know, it's got big wheels.
- 11:44It's got, you know, all this kind of stuff.
- 11:45And then, you know, it's mostly tube frame.
- 11:47It still has the scissor doors, which is okay.
- 11:51But then you realize it's powered by an LS.
- 11:54There's not a whole heck of a lot to it.
- 11:56That seems to be Lamborghini.
- 11:58And it got me into this whole kind of philosophical debate.
- 12:01Known as Theseus's ship.
- 12:03If you replace the parts enough on the original platform, is it
- 12:07still really that original ship?
- 12:09And so it kind of made me think, you know, was this a wrecked Lamborghini
- 12:12that they basically stripped down retaining those few couple of pieces
- 12:15still makes it a Lamborghini and maybe in its overall shape and design.
- 12:20You could kind of debate that for a while, but needless to
- 12:22say, You know what makes it
- 12:23a Lamborghini?
- 12:25Uh, yeah, that's probably the
- 12:27only thing that makes wise, it
- 12:28seems to perform they recorded that video of last year, they said t
- 12:35the car really off road o an hour.
- 12:38So this was kind video and we'll post it i you can check it out your
- 12:43They're kind of hitting the sand dunes and whatnot at a decent speed.
- 12:47And they learned some lessons.
- 12:48They had to go back and redesign some stuff, different skid plates, more
- 12:50ground clearance, stuff like that.
- 12:52So really curious to see how it fared in the race itself, but
- 12:57this Lamborghini Jumper can Batman Tumbler thing, it definitely got my
- 13:01attention for all of, you know, the four minutes that the video was,
- 13:06I don't know.
- 13:06It's just people with way too much money and too much time on their hands.
- 13:09More power to them for coming up with something unique and different,
- 13:11but I hope they didn't take a brand new Huracan and do this to it.
- 13:16I hope they started with a flood car or a salvage title or something like that.
- 13:20Because It's a
- 13:21waste.
- 13:21Like, like the guy who
- 13:22put the wagon wheels
- 13:23on the Hellcat.
- 13:26I just don't, I don't understand shit like that.
- 13:28It's It's stupid.
- 13:29That being said, maybe a little teaser for our lost and found section there, Brad.
- 13:34What do you think?
- 13:34We found a warehouse find is an all bare metal body Lamborghini Moira.
- 13:40I don't know how to pronounce these words.
- 13:44Moira.
- 13:45Moira.
- 13:46It's a Myra.
- 13:48It's a Lamborghini Myra.
- 13:50The Miura.
- 13:52I'm not Italian.
- 13:53I don't get it.
- 13:54The
- 13:54Miura.
- 13:54Spaghetti.
- 13:55There's a good
- 13:57name.
- 13:57They should have named it, instead of the Lamborghini Countach,
- 14:00it the Lamborghini Spaghetti.
- 14:01It's such a cheesy linguine!
- 14:05The Lamborghini
- 14:06Carbonara!
- 14:10Uh, Gemelli, uh, the Lamborghini Miura P400S.
- 14:14It's pretty cool.
- 14:14This is kind of like some of those other unfinished vehicles.
- 14:18You know, like we've talked about before, what is a barn find anymore?
- 14:21Now we got warehouse finds, basement finds, and kitchen finds.
- 14:25They're coming out of all the woodworks now, uh, no pun intended.
- 14:28From last month's episode about the lamborghini, but this one I just think
- 14:32is striking being a bare metal car and not being completely rusted Aluminum
- 14:36bodied it's beautiful actually and it's just kind of pure form I am hoping
- 14:41that maybe whoever put the car together or ordered it that way or whatever
- 14:46At least put a protective coating on it And I think we'll talk about a car
- 14:49that's very similar in design here in a little bit But I just think this is
- 14:52kind of cool And if you haven't seen it check it out again These barn finds
- 14:55are popping up all over the place
- 14:57I think it's really cool.
- 14:58It reminds me of the, the body is kind of like the DeLorean a little bit.
- 15:02It's got that look.
- 15:03It's obviously a much better, much cooler car.
- 15:05I would totally drive this and blind the people, you know,
- 15:08going down the road in the sun.
- 15:10So as a teaser for our Motorsports section later in this episode, There's also a bid.
- 15:15It's bid number six for the 2023 running of LeMans, and that's by Lamborghini.
- 15:22The number of people lining up to run in LMDH, the replacement for LMP one.
- 15:27The new hybrid hypercar class is going to feature the names Porsche Ferrari.
- 15:33BMW, and now Lamborghini.
- 15:36And we also mentioned last month Peugeot slash Dodge by way of Stellantis.
- 15:41So that's pretty awesome.
- 15:42And 2023 is stacking up to be an incredible year for Le Mans.
- 15:48And we're going to talk more about Le Mans later in the episode.
- 15:51To close out our section on Lamborghini, our friends at Garage Riot, we were
- 15:55debating the Countach there as well.
- 15:57You know, it's kind of hot news this month.
- 15:59And Donovan happened to post a commercial.
- 16:01For Lamborghini, which I didn't know, no, they did Lamborghini commercials.
- 16:05And I got to thank him for this.
- 16:06I got a great chuckle out of it.
- 16:08The tagline for the commercial reads close to the road.
- 16:12We're going to post that in the show notes.
- 16:13You need to check it out for yourself.
- 16:14I think it's, it's actually very well done.
- 16:17Very tongue in cheek.
- 16:18Good on you, Lamborghini.
- 16:19Do we know when this.
- 16:20Commercial came out, I want to make some guesses on who the arm belongs to.
- 16:24It's definitely a baller.
- 16:25Yes.
- 16:26I think it's a V10.
- 16:27So it's, it's a V10 era Lamborghini.
- 16:29So it's gotta be within the last, Oh, I don't know, 15 years.
- 16:32Right.
- 16:32So who do you think it is in the car?
- 16:34Well, knowing that you said it's V10,
- 16:37it's Michael Strahan.
- 16:37No, I don't know.
- 16:40No, from the song gold digger, he's the one that wins the super
- 16:44bowl and drives off in a Hyundai.
- 16:46Uh, that's
- 16:46right.
- 16:46That's right.
- 16:47I'll say Poby.
- 16:49It might be, we don't know.
- 16:50I mean, cast your votes on who the mystery arm is in this particular video.
- 16:55But again, very, very clever, very cute.
- 16:57And I very much enjoyed it.
- 16:59So thanks Donovan for posting that.
- 17:00And special congratulations to Donovan who just picked up.
- 17:05Lamborghini Gallardo.
- 17:06So it's a bit of a change from his background in BMWs and Porsches, etc.
- 17:12But if you want to learn more about his recent acquisition,
- 17:15check it out on garage riot.
- 17:17com.
- 17:17All the pictures are there.
- 17:19And with that bit of Lamborghini news, we round out our showcase this month.
- 17:23Since Lamborghini is You know, cousin second removed of Volkswagen Audi group.
- 17:29I think we should probably transition to Volkswagen Audi news like we always do.
- 17:33And I mentioned it a little bit ago, the Bugatti Devo, the last
- 17:37Bugatti Devo, a model probably you didn't even know existed.
- 17:4040 of which were built, the last one has been completed and delivered.
- 17:45That is the end of the production run for the Bugatti Divo.
- 17:49I think it's cool, but also very Lego like, I mean, obviously you
- 17:53can see the inspiration in it from the Chiron and the Veyron.
- 17:55And even like I was talking about the rear end of the Countach and things like that.
- 17:59It's sad to hear about a car on its way out.
- 18:03Because I think this would really been really cool to catch in the
- 18:07beginning, like, you know, something shocking, but there are other cool and
- 18:11unnamed models from Bugatti coming.
- 18:14We've seen some articles floating around, some spy pictures, et cetera.
- 18:17So I'm really excited to see what comes next.
- 18:20What do you guys think about this Devo now that you're probably
- 18:22hearing about it for the first time?
- 18:23I had no idea it existed.
- 18:24Is this the successor to the Chiron?
- 18:27It is a one off model.
- 18:28So no, it is not necessarily in that line.
- 18:31But much like the Cyan and some of those cars, it runs in that kind of vein of
- 18:36here, we're going to do a small batch and then move on to something else.
- 18:39So I didn't realize Bugatti was doing 40 car runs.
- 18:42I mean, to tool up for new unique body work like this, granted, it's still like
- 18:46a hundred year old R8 chassis underneath.
- 18:49It's still neat to see that they would put something out like this.
- 18:51They could have just called it a Veyron.
- 18:53But you can still buy the Veyron the what super sport now it is, I think
- 18:56at the top of the top line, 300 mile an hour monstrosity that they have.
- 19:01All right.
- 19:01So switching gears a little bit and talking about sort of related
- 19:04Porsche news singer that makes the most beautiful retro, what I call
- 19:10heritage cars out in California has pre sold 75 of what they call their
- 19:16DLS model based on the Porsche 964.
- 19:20For a cool 2 million each and an awkward pregnant pause there.
- 19:26As you do the math, that's an influx of 150 million into the company.
- 19:33Not sure when they're going public, but, uh, pay attention
- 19:35to that stock IPO for sure.
- 19:38And this quote from the Jalopnik article definitely summarizes how I
- 19:42felt about the consumption of 964s.
- 19:46And it reads, listen, I like an air cooled rear engine driving experience
- 19:51as much as the next guy, but you can't tell me that this car drives 1, 979,
- 19:56000 better than my shitty old 912e.
- 20:00Do you have any idea what I could do with 1.
- 20:0497 million?
- 20:05I could build a really freaking cool 9 11 and still have about 1.
- 20:089 million dollars left over.
- 20:10That being said, it's also the reason why, and we talked about this when
- 20:14Donovan guest starred on the show, the prices of 964s are going up.
- 20:17Because 964, as we know, had the shortest production run of pretty much, you
- 20:23Most 911s, it only lasted about four to five years, and there's not a ton
- 20:27of them out there, especially coupes.
- 20:30You know, there, there was a mix of variants in the 964 line convertibles.
- 20:34There was a speedster.
- 20:35There was, you know, wide bodies, the four S and things like that.
- 20:39So there's all these variations.
- 20:41And singers just buying them up and turning them into these ducktail
- 20:44classics and short nose cars.
- 20:45And they're beautiful.
- 20:47They're handcrafted.
- 20:48Absolutely amazing.
- 20:49They perform really, really well, but it's driven the price of
- 20:52stock nine 64s through the roof.
- 20:54I've also read that once singer can't get any more nine 64s, they're
- 20:58going to move on to nine 93s.
- 21:00done so.
- 21:01So that means the price of 9.
- 21:0193 is also going to skyrocket, right?
- 21:04They want to stay with the air cooled 9 11s, the best of the best.
- 21:07I'm really, really curious to see where the whole Singer line
- 21:10goes because people are going to board the cars that they have.
- 21:14To try to hold out, you know, what's the, you're going to come to the table with and
- 21:17offer you 2 million bucks for your nine 64 and then turn around and sell it for four.
- 21:21I mean, good on them.
- 21:22Good on the person who still has their nine 64 that they
- 21:24can sell for 2 million, nine
- 21:2664 turbos will be there soon enough.
- 21:28Don't worry about it.
- 21:28I
- 21:29still think it's a ridiculous amount of money for a car.
- 21:32Yeah.
- 21:32And you're dealing with a car from the nineties.
- 21:35They overlap with the nine 93, five maximum six year run
- 21:39the low production numbers.
- 21:41Cause that was the first year of the 3.
- 21:426, you know, stuff like that.
- 21:44You're dealing with a 30 year old car.
- 21:45So it's already vintage.
- 21:47And then you're making it even more vintage, right?
- 21:49Going to the late sixties, early seventies, look of the RSS and
- 21:53the ducktails and stuff like that.
- 21:54I mean, again, The singers are gorgeous, hands down.
- 21:57Maybe they'll start doing something else.
- 21:59Like where's my retro 308 built on top of a Modena 360 or a Ferrari F430.
- 22:05Why don't we do something different than a retro 9 11?
- 22:07I feel like they're kind of played out, at least in my opinion.
- 22:10I think we forgot to just start this one with rich people doing rich people things.
- 22:14You're probably right.
- 22:15Definitely out of my price range.
- 22:17I think we started the entire episode with rich people doing rich
- 22:20people things with the V12 hybrid Lamborghini and the Countach.
- 22:25Definitely not
- 22:26in the market for that.
- 22:27Yeah.
- 22:28So what else is going on in the VAG world there, Tanya?
- 22:31So Audi is unveiling that I guess they're going to join the Dakar series.
- 22:36We're going back to Rally What?
- 22:38We're going back to.
- 22:38Rally What?
- 22:39Huh?
- 22:40Come again.
- 22:40YouTube video out there where they're showcasing their brand new purpose
- 22:44built Design Decar Rally vehicle, and it's an e-tron and it looks sick.
- 22:50It's reminiscent of other rally cars of the Decar series.
- 22:53So that's exciting to see them returning to the world of rally
- 22:56and hopefully they actually go back to the other rally world as well.
- 22:59WRC.
- 23:00So they're calling this the RSQ.
- 23:02And I thought what was really kind of cute about the video is there's this
- 23:05like double asterisk that says this vehicle not based on a production car.
- 23:09So I was like, it's a purpose built Dakar rally raid vehicle.
- 23:13Right.
- 23:13And so what I thought was also interesting, unlike the VW submissions
- 23:19of years past, which were loosely based on the Touareg or the Amarok or some
- 23:23of the other vehicles that they have in their lineup, especially overseas.
- 23:27This is a purpose built.
- 23:28Desert rally car.
- 23:29It is super cool.
- 23:30The big question that came to mind, and I rewatched the video
- 23:33a couple of times in slow motion.
- 23:35And I thought I saw a shot of the crankcase and I'm thinking
- 23:38it's not a full e tron, but a hybrid, but I can't confirm that.
- 23:42And there's not enough information because the.
- 23:44Biggest question that came to mind.
- 23:45If this is a legitimate e tron, where are they recharging this thing on the Dakar?
- 23:51Because the Dakar rally is what?
- 23:521, 000, 1, 500 miles.
- 23:54It's something ridiculous.
- 23:55I mean, I guess they're going to charge it with their diesel generators.
- 24:00This is some pretty long rally stage weights that you have to go through.
- 24:04So you've got to charge that thing up.
- 24:05I'm curious to see where it is and what the specs are.
- 24:09If they are going full electric, I'm shocked.
- 24:11And I want to see how that pans out.
- 24:14I don't want to, I don't want to say good, bad or indifferent, but I just want
- 24:16to see how it all works out for them.
- 24:18So best of luck on that, but design wise, super cool.
- 24:21Very futuristic.
- 24:22It reminds me of the Viet Cross.
- 24:24No, it does not.
- 24:26Speaking of futuristic.
- 24:27So they're at it again, Audi.
- 24:29So they unveiled a concept car.
- 24:31Car of the future, if you will.
- 24:33It's very sleek looking car.
- 24:35Got a lot of futuristic bits on the outside and definitely on the inside.
- 24:39I mean, this thing looks kind of like a Batmobile or should
- 24:43be in a James Bond movie or some villains driving this thing around.
- 24:47I mean, it looks pretty neat, but the interesting thing
- 24:50about it, it's an autonomous.
- 24:52Concept car for the future, but it's also a transformer.
- 24:56Wait, wait,
- 24:57what, what,
- 24:57what?
- 24:58Transformers.
- 25:01There's more than meets the eye here, but I'm done.
- 25:04When they say transformer, it's not going to suddenly stand up on its
- 25:07hind wheels and start talking to you.
- 25:10It actually can elongate the wheel base by almost 10 inches.
- 25:14So basically you can have a sport mode in a shorter wheel base
- 25:19or elongated 250 millimeters.
- 25:21To a more touring wheelbase, if you will.
- 25:25And since it's autonomous, they've created it such that the
- 25:28steering wheel is retractable and the pedals are attractable.
- 25:31So basically they'll disappear into the dashboard and the under dash
- 25:34so that you have more comfort room.
- 25:36It's a concept car.
- 25:37It's kind of the vision of where the future could be going once true
- 25:41autonomous vehicles, if they ever actually come to fruition, this could be the
- 25:46future of what more and more vehicles.
- 25:49Okay.
- 25:49So this car has melted my brain.
- 25:51I have looked at this video on repeat for way too long.
- 25:56And here's my takeaway.
- 25:57There's a lot of stuff.
- 25:58It's really expensive that can break.
- 26:01Okay.
- 26:01Well, I was going to save that part, but.
- 26:04First thing that came to mind, Batman, the animated series.
- 26:07Second thing that came to mind, the defender from Viper, because it looks
- 26:10like a Viper from the side and profile.
- 26:12Yeah, I was
- 26:13just about to say they, they went there, they're going all
- 26:15the way to the future of 1993.
- 26:20It looks like a Viper from the side.
- 26:21I mean like a gen one, gen two Viper.
- 26:24It's scary how close it looks.
- 26:25Third, what does 250 millimeters, which comes out to about 10 inches.
- 26:29Buy me on a two seater that I can lay down and go to sleep while it's driving me.
- 26:34Cause I don't understand.
- 26:35It's not like suddenly your back seats pop up out of this thing.
- 26:39I
- 26:39don't think it's for your comfort.
- 26:40I think it's for the driving experience.
- 26:43So if you want people,
- 26:44If
- 26:45you want to pull the steering wheel back out in the pedals and go hoon around a
- 26:48bit, I guess, you shorten the wheelbase and then you have a more sporty feel.
- 26:52It's a car that fits everybody.
- 26:54I guess if you're seven feet tall like our big man in a little car
- 26:57episode, you don't have a problem.
- 26:58You just stretch the vehicle like Gordon wanted to do with that Viper, right?
- 27:01That we had talked about.
- 27:02But in this case, I get it.
- 27:04It's cool because there's no drivetrain and so on these electric vehicles where
- 27:08they can put the power plants at the end of the car and all that kind of stuff, it
- 27:11makes sense that they can grow and shrink the interior, especially at the pedal box.
- 27:14And the way I look at this, I just, the question that
- 27:17continually comes to my mind.
- 27:19Is why, why do I need this in my life?
- 27:22Well, it's a concept car.
- 27:23So why do any manufacturer do the things they do with concept cars?
- 27:28They're proving they have the technology and the capability
- 27:30to do something that's crazy.
- 27:32So in my Mark four Volkswagen GTI, when the sunroof broke and it wouldn't
- 27:37retract or whatever, there was a crank and you had to manually crank it.
- 27:41So when you're stuck in 10 inch mode.
- 27:46Get outside.
- 27:47Outside.
- 27:47You need to pull, you
- 27:48need to pull out a crank.
- 27:49Yes.
- 27:49Stick it in the side and crank it back in to the driver mode.
- 27:53Cue the music.
- 27:54No, you,
- 27:55the jack in the box music . No, no, no.
- 27:57You just
- 27:58do like those, those cars that the kids have and you, you back 'em
- 28:01up until it winds up, you know, and then you can like let it go.
- 28:03It's the same thing, just back up the car into a wall until it crushes itself.
- 28:07It's perfect.
- 28:08Or, so I'm a baller and I've got my Audi, whatever this car is called.
- 28:12And I've got my, you know, supermodel girlfriend with me or whatever, and
- 28:16I can't get it to shrink back in.
- 28:17So I go stand at the front.
- 28:18I asked her to stand at the back and we just kind of smush it back together.
- 28:22Is that how that works?
- 28:24She, she walks away from you.
- 28:26She calls Uber.
- 28:27She goes
- 28:27over to the guy in the, in the Chiron.
- 28:29Yes,
- 28:29exactly.
- 28:31I mean, first of all, to do all this mechanism, I'm sure it takes a ton
- 28:34of power and there's a lot of servos.
- 28:36And like you said, it's expensive to replace something breaks, but
- 28:39the stats on this car are not great.
- 28:41310 miles of range.
- 28:42They're claiming equivalent 553 foot pounds of torque, but
- 28:45that's a lot of stuff going on.
- 28:48And it's still not more complicated or more expensive to repair than
- 28:52a Volkswagen Touareg or Phaeton.
- 28:55Uh, you're probably right about that.
- 28:56So there, there is an advantage to these cars.
- 28:58So we'll, we'll move on because this thing just, you'll see it in the show notes.
- 29:02It will just, it bends spoons.
- 29:04That's what it does.
- 29:05That's what it does for me.
- 29:06It's like the matrix, you know, normally our next.
- 29:09that we talk about on every drive thru episode is our friends
- 29:11over at Stellantis, right?
- 29:13The fourth largest auto manufacturer on the planet, now home to Chrysler
- 29:17and Peugeot, Fiat, Ferrari, and all sorts of wonderful names that
- 29:21are in the Stellantis portfolio.
- 29:23So normally this spot is reserved for news of 2 million horsepower Dodges, right?
- 29:28But sadly last month we talked about how.
- 29:30There was the last hurrah for the Challenger and the Charger.
- 29:34But since we know that most of these Chrysler products that fill this
- 29:37space that we love talking about are really built on as Brad would put a
- 29:41hundred year old Mercedes Benz chassis.
- 29:43We thought it was appropriate to bring in a substitute with a name in the automotive
- 29:47world that we haven't heard in a while.
- 29:49And that name is.
- 29:50Brabus.
- 29:51Yes, folks.
- 29:52Brabus is back and they won't be outdone.
- 29:55They were usurped by AMG many, many years ago.
- 29:58You know, there were other names out in the field, you know, doing really cool
- 30:01things as well, but Brabus was the name you went to for high horsepower Mercedes.
- 30:06So they've come to the table with all things in 800 horsepower
- 30:10SUV built on top of the GLE.
- 30:12It's wicked cool.
- 30:13It looks like any Brabus you've ever seen, you know, it's sort of.
- 30:18outlandish, but also subdued at the same time.
- 30:21It's got all these really cool styling cues internally.
- 30:24They've redone the interior, giving it massive horsepower.
- 30:26You know, the typical all Brabus black, it comes in one color, as long
- 30:30as you want it in black type of deal.
- 30:32It sounds amazing.
- 30:33I mean, I have to hand it to the Mercedes engineers.
- 30:37Their V8s are some of the best.
- 30:39Sounding V8s on the planet next to the Corvettes C7R and some
- 30:44other vehicles that are out there.
- 30:46There's just nothing like a Mercedes V8.
- 30:48So good on Brabus for coming back.
- 30:50I thought it was really cute to have it parked next to a Brabus Smart 4.
- 30:542, which I didn't even know was still a thing.
- 30:57thing.
- 30:57So when you watch the video by Shmee 150, it's kind of an
- 31:01interesting review of the vehicle.
- 31:02It is new.
- 31:03The newest entry from Brabus, curious to see where that goes.
- 31:06And interestingly enough, the name Brabus came up on our,
- 31:10what should I buy 90s episode.
- 31:12So we were debating whether that was a good pick and a goodbye and
- 31:15kind of revisit that old moniker.
- 31:17If you're looking to invest into a 90s car.
- 31:19So if you haven't listened to that episode yet, definitely check it out.
- 31:22Sweet.
- 31:22I'll I have something.
- 31:23Oh, you do?
- 31:24So the other little bit of Stellantis news we have.
- 31:27So last month, we talked about the guy who was building the Lamborghini
- 31:31in his basement and there was some wood involved among other things,
- 31:36and eventually had to bust the basement wall down to get the car out.
- 31:40But nonetheless, wood strikes again.
- 31:43And this time though, it is an entire car made out of wood.
- 31:48No.
- 31:49Yes, so, oh, yes, it is a scaled down version of a Ferrari GTO 250.
- 31:56So it's not a one to one replica, but it's not the size of a go kart either.
- 31:59So a gentleman in Vietnam who is a woodworker and he is very talented,
- 32:04he wanted to give his son a Ferrari.
- 32:06So he built him one out of wood and it has a working electric drivetrain.
- 32:10So it is drivable completely on the road.
- 32:13Not that it's probably street legal, but But it does function and does
- 32:17run and it's, and he handcrafted it, carved it out of wood.
- 32:21Some of the proportions are off.
- 32:23That's okay.
- 32:24Like the windshield is ridiculous.
- 32:26I love the wooden windshield wipers.
- 32:27That does make me laugh.
- 32:29I mean, those little details, the door handle is exceptionally entertaining.
- 32:33Looks like something you'd see on a bathroom vanity, but I
- 32:35got to give you props on this.
- 32:37The woodworking is exquisite.
- 32:39The car does look really, really cool.
- 32:42I mean, I'm not sure what else to say.
- 32:43He's a woodworker.
- 32:44He had 70 days extra time on his hands and he built one.
- 32:49That is something else.
- 32:50That's for sure.
- 32:51I
- 32:51feel like this could have been done with a Fiero and 200 bucks.
- 32:57I don't know if they, there's a kid out there.
- 32:58I don't know if they have the Fiero out in Vietnam.
- 33:01Can we send them out there?
- 33:03'cause we don't want 'em.
- 33:04Yes, please.
- 33:05Like we do with like the campaign T-shirts and the Super Bowl loser
- 33:08shirts we send to third world countries.
- 33:10Let's just send all the fieros.
- 33:12Now to those third world countries,
- 33:16you know, and that's probably a great segue into talking about domestic news.
- 33:21We separate Stellantis because they're now this global conglomerate with all
- 33:24these different brands underneath.
- 33:26And so the domestics are now really Ford and GM Toyota aside and all the other ones
- 33:31that we know are built here in the States, but big, bad American companies, Ford and
- 33:35GM Ford has put out a press release saying they're going to move to build to order.
- 33:41And I'm like, cool, Volvo talked about doing that.
- 33:45BMW has talked about doing that.
- 33:46Porsche does that now, quote unquote, on their website.
- 33:49Doesn't MINI do that?
- 33:50Aren't all MINIs built to order?
- 33:52Supposedly.
- 33:52These are supposed to be completely bespoke.
- 33:54Like you're supposed to actually get what you want.
- 33:56And here's where I found the lies.
- 34:00As I'm reading the article, it just stands out to me and to quote ordering the exact
- 34:06vehicle color trim level accessories.
- 34:08Everything you want is how Europeans have been buying their cars for
- 34:12ages, lies, lies, and more lies.
- 34:16I've never been able to custom order a European car the way I want it, right?
- 34:22I want triple black or I want purple interior.
- 34:25All right, it's always.
- 34:26You could do it in their little configurator, especially today online.
- 34:30And then at the end, it goes find closest available compromise.
- 34:34And it's always black over tan or black over gray.
- 34:38If you want red, you can only get these wheels.
- 34:41It's always some stupid catch 22 that you can't actually get what you want because
- 34:46they're not building cars to order.
- 34:49And by the way, I've tried more than once going to the dealership and saying,
- 34:53I'd like the wheels off of that car, you know, while I'm there already making a
- 34:57compromise and they won't do that either.
- 34:59Was there comment?
- 35:00Cause I didn't read this.
- 35:01Was there comment in America?
- 35:04You can buy your European cars built to order or in Europe, Europeans can buy.
- 35:11Yeah, I think that's more the truth because what I read was the actual
- 35:15quote and they're like, Oh, Europeans have been doing this forever.
- 35:17And I'm like, no, no, no, not here.
- 35:20Not here.
- 35:20At least now.
- 35:21So I like the concept, right?
- 35:23Some people are like, well, this is dumb and blah, blah, blah.
- 35:25I just went down to the dealership lot and pick what I want to pick.
- 35:28But there are those of us in the community that would prefer to buy a bespoke.
- 35:33And I'm not saying it needs to be ridiculous, but at least give me
- 35:36the combinations that you offer.
- 35:38If I want a black interior on a black car with black wheels, you know, or
- 35:42whatever, I should be able to get it.
- 35:44Not get to the end, and it just be this giant tease, and I'm left with,
- 35:48Nope, there's 13 white ones and a blue one, so this is what you get.
- 35:51I'm like, what?
- 35:52What?
- 35:52No.
- 35:53I thought we were kind of moving toward that new hotness of, you know, made to
- 35:57order and a la carte and all this stuff.
- 35:59So I would think people would want to be able to have more choices in their
- 36:03interior, hopefully with some limitations.
- 36:07That we can't be getting hot pink Pepto Bismol color choices, right?
- 36:12Like here's a palette, choose from it.
- 36:14You can want to be able
- 36:16to choose heritage interiors.
- 36:19So I want the Ricardo Montblanc Corinthian leather in burgundy.
- 36:23I want everything burgundy in my car.
- 36:26As long as they can do it fast enough.
- 36:28I think people would be on board with being able to say like, Oh, I really want.
- 36:31White leather interior in my
- 36:34Oh, like the old Volkswagen Cabrio's had and stuff like that.
- 36:37But I want a tan dashboard, red carpeting in a forest green exterior.
- 36:42I don't know.
- 36:42Somebody probably wants that combination.
- 36:44Stop talking about the color choices that were in my UR Quattro from the factories.
- 36:50They had green pile carpet.
- 36:53I don't understand what they were thinking.
- 36:55Like, what is this?
- 36:56Black seats and a brown dashboard.
- 36:58What is wrong with you?
- 37:00All those cars were kind of slightly bespoke.
- 37:03They were all Not by choice though.
- 37:06Random combinations of interior.
- 37:10Took me the longest time before I realized that my black interior was
- 37:13actually a really dark chocolate brown.
- 37:16So bad.
- 37:16But on the other hand, you know what you can order, but you get all the
- 37:20options and no choices is a 300, 000 Ford GT 40 replica from South Africa.
- 37:27Well, you know what, if I'm spending 300, 000, you darn tootin better
- 37:32be giving me exactly what I want.
- 37:34So under license from golf to put the golf livery on the car and superformance
- 37:39who has made these superformance Cobras in the past, which were Ford
- 37:43approved replicas of the 427 Cobra.
- 37:46They are now constructing exact replicas of the 1968, 1969 Le Mans winning GT
- 37:53forties down to every single nut and bolt.
- 37:56So if you want to turn key.
- 37:58Late sixties race car.
- 38:00Get yourself a super performance GT 40 for a cool 300 grand.
- 38:04Would you buy this or a new Kutosh?
- 38:07But
- 38:07the price points will probably be the same.
- 38:10So in all honesty, I'm going to have to lean towards the Kutosh.
- 38:13only because 1960s replica means 1960s handling.
- 38:19It's not an homage or anything like that.
- 38:21It's a direct copy.
- 38:23And it even has the ability to be homologated into like vintage
- 38:27racing and stuff like that.
- 38:28That's how accurate this copy is.
- 38:30And so what that means is.
- 38:31Is awkward.
- 38:33You know, geometry is going to have an ancient handling characteristics.
- 38:37I've read that the old GT forties kind of were awkward.
- 38:40They were a handful to drive and it's something that I don't want that.
- 38:43I mean, if I'm going to spend 300 grand, I want it to be fast
- 38:45and I want it to be predictable.
- 38:46Does it have like 18 years to shift?
- 38:49Uh, only in Ford
- 38:50versus Ferrari.
- 38:51So
- 38:51Ford, we talked about them last month and about how people are taking
- 38:55delivery of their new full size Broncos.
- 38:58And they're not happy because the tops are trash.
- 39:01Well, Ford has come back and said that they're going to replace
- 39:03each and every one of those tops.
- 39:05For free, under recall.
- 39:07I thought they were having issues with sound quality and, and fit
- 39:11and finish and stuff like that.
- 39:13That's not the case.
- 39:14They're actually having problems with, Peeling paint and discoloration
- 39:18and things of that nature.
- 39:19Ford is going to replace each and every one of them.
- 39:22So if you've got one of these fancy new Broncos and you've got a hard
- 39:25top, take it on down to your Ford dealer and come October, they're
- 39:29going to start replacing those tops.
- 39:30So what else
- 39:31is going on in the world of Ford?
- 39:32Same thing that's going in the world of the entire automotive
- 39:35industry, the chip shortage.
- 39:37And Ford is obviously no stranger falling victim to this, not only in their trucks.
- 39:43And, you know, we talked a couple of months ago or last month about the F
- 39:47250 sitting on the side of the road and parked in parking lots and everything,
- 39:50because they don't have all the parts to finish production and get them up to sale.
- 39:54Well, the Mach E refused to call it the Mustang.
- 39:56The Ford Mach E is no stranger to this either.
- 39:59It is also hit by the same issues with
- 40:03We have a huge contradiction here, though, don't we, Tanya?
- 40:05Because there was another release that just came out from Ford that says
- 40:08Given the higher than expected volume of pre order deposits that have been put down
- 40:13for the Ford F 150 Lightning, the electric truck, Ford is actually changing their
- 40:18production plan and saying they're going to be doubling their original production
- 40:21numbers to keep up with this demand.
- 40:23So it will be interesting to see how they can do that with
- 40:26this global chip shortage.
- 40:27It just isn't a car manufacturing issue, it's anything that requires Microchip.
- 40:32I think the difference here is the Mach E is a car that was already
- 40:36in production and is already being sold and is out on the road.
- 40:40But the F-150 Lightning is not in production yet.
- 40:44Correct.
- 40:44They're doing kind of the Tesla thing.
- 40:46They took all those orders in and then for vehicles to be built in the future.
- 40:50Yeah.
- 40:50They're hoping that the trip shortage.
- 40:52Goes away and they don't get the chips they need in time, right?
- 40:55It'll correct itself.
- 40:56And I'm sure they've got inside information.
- 40:58They've been in communication with the chip producers, and they know that
- 41:02there probably is an end in sight.
- 41:04They just can't divulge that information to us.
- 41:07Or they start doing something like Tesla or Tesla to circumvent this allegedly is.
- 41:11building their own chip in what capacity that exactly means that
- 41:14they're not having it outsourced but lays or us like what kind of chips
- 41:18are
- 41:19they
- 41:20why don't they just put the new apple a12 chip or whatever that comes on
- 41:24the phone why can't we use those
- 41:26because they're made all on the same same place.
- 41:27That's the bigger problem.
- 41:28I mean, once places like Intel and micron and whatever moved their production
- 41:33overseas, they're all at the same, let's say Foxconn factory, you know, where
- 41:37they're all being produced side by side.
- 41:39So the global chip shortage also has to do with rare earth metals and all
- 41:42that kind of stuff and people being able to produce them on the line.
- 41:45So The Even the new Apple chip, that's why there isn't a new iPhone 13 yet.
- 41:50They're still stuck on whatever they have, the 12s and the 11s.
- 41:52You're starting to see a lot of re pops and refurbs and things like that.
- 41:56What I find interesting here in this contradiction on the Maquis
- 41:59versus the Lightning is Is the Mach E really selling that well, right?
- 42:03We haven't seen sales numbers yet.
- 42:05So if it's not selling well, it makes sense to halt its production to something
- 42:09like the Ford F 150, which we're going to talk about here in a minute, best
- 42:12selling vehicle in North America.
- 42:16The chip shortage is a great scapegoat for low production numbers, low sale numbers.
- 42:21Correct.
- 42:22And we saw that with the Camaro.
- 42:24We saw that with other vehicles where it's like, it doesn't
- 42:26make sense to keep this going.
- 42:28So let's just blame the chip shortage and we can take this thing off the line.
- 42:32Speculation here.
- 42:32I'm not saying that that's what the case is, but Brad, you're a numbers guy
- 42:36on paper, I mean, just the most sense.
- 42:39Just a quick look, apparently, without doing too much research,
- 42:42it does look like maki sales are continuing to grow month on month.
- 42:46Where, I don't know, because I don't see them on the road.
- 42:49It's like finding hen's teeth.
- 42:50You can count them on the fingers of one hand.
- 42:51The numbers
- 42:52are small, I think, in terms of production quantity.
- 42:55So it's not like they're sold 20, 000.
- 42:58They sold, apparently, in June, I think it was like 2, 500, barely.
- 43:03Oh, wow.
- 43:03This is a good little tidbit because I have actually seen
- 43:05a couple makis on the road.
- 43:07I've seen more unique Porsche take hands than I have makis.
- 43:12And that's a car that's what, five times the cost of a maki?
- 43:15Probably has five times the amount of chips in it too.
- 43:17You know, I love those.
- 43:19Marketing numbers.
- 43:19I mean, I see it all the time, even in my line of work where it's like a
- 43:23hundred percent growth year over year.
- 43:24Yeah, you're right.
- 43:25Last year you sold one and this year you sold two.
- 43:27So there you go to your point, Tanya.
- 43:29If we don't know what the sales numbers are, yes, the Mach E is continuing
- 43:33to grow, but at what rates, right?
- 43:35We're not seeing 200, 000 producers.
- 43:37It's not like the Mustang when it was introduced.
- 43:40Let's talk about the Mustang and the Iacocca era where it outsold anything.
- 43:44It's still the fastest selling car.
- 43:46Like.
- 43:46Ever during its first production year.
- 43:49So they're not going to see that on the Mach E, but to the point of the
- 43:52real sales numbers, the F 150 still holds the crown right now of the
- 43:57best selling car in North America.
- 43:59That's the U S and Canada combined.
- 44:01And based on some numbers that we've recently seen, which we'll talk about here
- 44:03in a minute, but go where the money is.
- 44:05If you're going, I thought we
- 44:06talked about that last month too, as part of the Slow down on some of the
- 44:10production was they were diverting where the microchips were going.
- 44:14So they could be slowing down production because they know if they're seeing those
- 44:18pre orders being so much higher than what the Mach E's were and Ford F 150
- 44:24being the all time greatest bestselling vehicle in the history of the galaxy in
- 44:30North America, past, present, future, then, I mean, it behooves them to make
- 44:35sure that they can fulfill those orders.
- 44:37Absolutely.
- 44:38And
- 44:38I'm sure you'll probably see things being peeled back or
- 44:41slowing on other vehicles as well.
- 44:43I mean, granted the big two, we won't call them the big three anymore.
- 44:46The big two have been peeling back.
- 44:49Their model proliferation for a while.
- 44:51Right.
- 44:51I mean, the fusion's gone.
- 44:53A lot of the passenger vehicles, you know, even on the Chevy side of disappeared.
- 44:57I had the unfortunate experience of driving a brand new Malibu the other day.
- 45:00They should stop making that car.
- 45:02I'm sorry.
- 45:03If you own one, uh, keep the Impala.
- 45:06No, get rid of that trash too.
- 45:08You know, since we are talking a little bit about GM.
- 45:11Let's step into that for a moment.
- 45:13The Chevy Bolt, there's been several recalls that have happened
- 45:16around the Chevy Bolt and fires.
- 45:19There has been a third recall, which essentially encompasses that every single
- 45:24Chevy Bolt globally has been recalled.
- 45:27All three of them.
- 45:28I think they sold more than three, surprisingly.
- 45:33I have to look at the numbers they've sold.
- 45:34I think like a couple hundred thousand or something.
- 45:36So I don't know that I don't know that the highest numbers were necessarily in the U.
- 45:41S.
- 45:42Nonetheless, this is a, I think a billion plus fix for Chevy and the
- 45:47fixes replacing all the batteries.
- 45:50car, which is you just
- 45:51turn a bolt over and take out the two double A's and put two more in.
- 45:56And the problem is, you know, with these electric cars, we're
- 45:59blaming, Oh, it's a piece of crap.
- 46:02Chevy catches fire.
- 46:04Well, Problem is Chevy didn't invent the battery.
- 46:07Chevy didn't make the battery, unlike sometimes Tesla claims
- 46:11to make all that stuff, right?
- 46:11This is why people get on their case because it's like, well, if you're making
- 46:14everything, then it's your fault, right?
- 46:15So LG, Ken, South Korean battery manufacturer, the ones that are
- 46:20supplying all the batteries for the Chevy Volts, along with a bunch of other
- 46:24car manufacturers batteries, apparently there's an issue in their manufacturing
- 46:29and not one, but multiple of their plants.
- 46:31And so there's some sort of instability, obviously they can't divulge exactly
- 46:35what their battery chemistry is, but the lithium batteries are already known
- 46:38to be somewhat dangerous, and you know, there's a lot of cobalt usually that goes
- 46:42into the batteries, which stabilizes the reactions, however, there's issues with,
- 46:46you know, how much cobalt's available, and that the cobalt comes from the Congo
- 46:50region, and there's human rights issues, etc, so a lot of folks have been trying
- 46:54to dial back cobalt mining and whatnot, and so if you Take the cobalt out.
- 46:59You got to replace it with something else.
- 47:00And they're replacing it with nickel.
- 47:02It sounds like maybe that chemistry isn't quite maybe as stable as it needs to be.
- 47:06And it's leading to battery fires possibly.
- 47:09So Chevy is trying to go after LG because they're making the batteries
- 47:13and the batteries are catching fire.
- 47:14We'll see what comes out of that.
- 47:16If they can maybe recoup.
- 47:17Some of their money, but that's a big problem.
- 47:19If LG Chem is making all these batteries, they're supposed to be, I
- 47:22believe, supplying the ID Volkswagen ID batteries for those cars.
- 47:26I'm sure more is going to come out of this.
- 47:29If there truly is some sort of manufacturing issue.
- 47:32Yeah.
- 47:33So this becomes like
- 47:33a Takata problem where everybody's getting their airbags from the same place.
- 47:37So, yeah, I see where you're going with this and, you know, it's going
- 47:42to be tough, maybe Chevy can harvest semiconductors from all these bolts
- 47:45and give everybody an Impala instead.
- 47:47And they can go, I
- 47:49mean, it's, it's, it's a growing pain also, because.
- 47:52This is new frontier, all these batteries.
- 47:55And, you know, I like the one statement in the article.
- 47:58If it was easy to make a battery, everybody would be doing it.
- 48:02I mean, Duracell and Energizer have been doing it forever.
- 48:04Come on now.
- 48:05Yes.
- 48:05Well, I think it's a lot different to power your flashlight.
- 48:10Versus, you know, your car to go zero to 60 and then the unnecessary 1.
- 48:152 seconds, right?
- 48:18Or shrinking, you know, accordion in the car, right?
- 48:22We're
- 48:22asking a lot of batteries.
- 48:25Today, that is not historically how we use them.
- 48:27Right?
- 48:28How many dura cells would it take to power a bolt?
- 48:31I forget.
- 48:31I went to that museum, the Reno car museum, and they had one of
- 48:34the first electric cars on display.
- 48:37It had to go back through my photos because I took a picture of this thing.
- 48:39Like, You know, looking like one of those Model T, Tin Lizzy type vehicles.
- 48:44And I forget, it was an electric vehicle and it had like, I forget how many, like
- 48:49the car batteries we put in our cars.
- 48:52It had like, I forget how many dozens in order to make that
- 48:56thing have like 20 horsepower.
- 48:58I
- 48:59think they're insane.
- 49:00And they weighed like 9 million pounds.
- 49:02I was recently talking to somebody about the history of Porsche and you look at
- 49:07the lawner Porsche, which is like the very first one that Ferdinand senior built.
- 49:11And it was an electric vehicle.
- 49:12This is not a new concept to have an electric car, but back then, to your
- 49:16point, I mean, they weighed like nine tons and they went three miles an hour and they
- 49:20had the equivalent, you know, horsepower.
- 49:22Of two terrible, but we've been playing with this science
- 49:26experiment for a very long time.
- 49:27And I hate to say, and I know I'm going to get chastised for this.
- 49:31It's hard to beat petrol.
- 49:33It is consistent.
- 49:34If nothing else, it has been consistent for a hundred years.
- 49:37I mean, we've also had that many more years to develop it and do
- 49:43economies of scale and make it.
- 49:46Cleaner and et cetera, et cetera.
- 49:47So this is the problem of being in the middle of innovation.
- 49:51Yes.
- 49:51Everybody's going to bitch and moan and point fingers.
- 49:54And it's huge growing pains for research and development to still be going on.
- 49:59But then at the same time, trying to actually put it in
- 50:01the hands of the consumer.
- 50:03It's all fun and games until somebody's battery blows up.
- 50:05All fun and games till your house burns down because of your car.
- 50:09Yeah, right.
- 50:10Exactly.
- 50:10One last bit of domestic news.
- 50:12What do we got?
- 50:13So there's always the raging debates that go on.
- 50:17Like, is there a car that's faster than a Tesla in a drag race?
- 50:21You know, blah, blah, blah.
- 50:22Can anything beat it?
- 50:24And there's been tons of videos, right?
- 50:26Ferrari is going up against Tesla's and Veyron's and
- 50:31Porsche's and blah, blah, blah.
- 50:33And I haven't fully kept track of all this, but I believe finally, finally,
- 50:38ladies and gentle listeners, there has been a car that has beaten a
- 50:42model S plaid in a rolling drag race.
- 50:45Can, I guess.
- 50:46I think it was a A 2016 Dodge Dart.
- 50:50Oh, that's brutal.
- 50:51That's Savage right there.
- 50:53? No, it was a HHR Ss.
- 50:55I was about to say Cobo SI was about to say what it also was not
- 51:01, all those things, HHR
- 51:02or any derivative thereof.
- 51:04No front wheel drive cars were harmed in the beating of this Tesla.
- 51:08Neither.
- 51:08Was it a Malibu or an Impala or any other flaming turd?
- 51:12No.
- 51:13In order to beat a model S.
- 51:15Plaid version.
- 51:16All you need is RURK!
- 51:18Shelby GT500 modified to 1100 horsepower.
- 51:23Yeah!
- 51:23Hell yeah!
- 51:25Yeehaw!
- 51:25That is not factory, that is not legitimate, and that is not fair.
- 51:30I don't care how you call this.
- 51:33Well, I mean, one could argue the Shelby GT500 is a factory car.
- 51:38However, yes, it did require some modifications that weren't base model in
- 51:43order to achieve a quarter mile mark of 7.
- 51:4691 seconds at 159.
- 51:4863 miles per hour.
- 51:51On the first round, second round, they got to 160.
- 51:5494 miles per hour at 7.
- 51:5766 seconds, beating the Tesla most times.
- 52:00By a very
- 52:01slim margin.
- 52:01What was
- 52:02that 2000 horsepower Challenger we talked about last month that doesn't exist?
- 52:06Didn't we name it like the bat out of hell or something like that?
- 52:09That's a production vehicle that needs to go up against Tesla.
- 52:13Well, why, why aren't people racing the Dodge Demon against the Tesla?
- 52:16Or are they in this losing?
- 52:18Cause the Dodge Demon is supposed to run seven, nine,
- 52:21hold up, hold up.
- 52:22I don't know.
- 52:22So that's it.
- 52:24This is a rolling drag race.
- 52:26So I don't know what, Oh my God,
- 52:27that's bullshit.
- 52:28So there's a little bit of a
- 52:29difference.
- 52:31Stop the line with all wheel
- 52:33drive and everything else.
- 52:35Yeah, that's junk.
- 52:36And that's what I'm saying.
- 52:37Pump the brakes because even the demon I've read that to get to that seven
- 52:41second number, Oh, you got to do all kinds
- 52:44of shit to it.
- 52:45They got to
- 52:45strip the car down.
- 52:46It's only got like one seat in it.
- 52:48No carpet.
- 52:49It's not really the car you buy off the factory floor to get to that number.
- 52:54No, no, it is.
- 52:55They just need to do a couple of little things.
- 52:57You can actually buy it without the seat.
- 52:59You pay a dollar for the additional seat and the extra wheels
- 53:02and all that other bullshit.
- 53:03It's a package and you're built to order Dodge Demon.
- 53:08I'm
- 53:08waiting for
- 53:09the bat out of hell.
- 53:10There's an advantage of electric over petrol in.
- 53:14I mean, you get one run, but that one runs really fast because it
- 53:21puts down all the power immediately.
- 53:23You don't have to build up to it.
- 53:24It's just, it just discharged.
- 53:25Here's the amount of voltage.
- 53:27It's almost not even really a fair comparison to even be doing like,
- 53:30no, it's like, let's take a seven 47 and drag race it against an F 18 fighter jet.
- 53:35I mean, come on.
- 53:36I mean, it's whatever.
- 53:37I mean, we're always going to do it.
- 53:39Hell yeah.
- 53:40I mean, so let's talk about.
- 53:42Our newest section that isn't really new anymore because
- 53:46we found it and it was lost.
- 53:47It's our historical and lost and found section.
- 53:50Before we hop into this first article, I just want to do my little cars.
- 53:55com search and tell you all what I found.
- 53:58Oh man, here we
- 54:01go.
- 54:02You can buy a brand new with three miles on the odometer 1991 Honda.
- 54:12Accord ex
- 54:16in white with a 2.
- 54:192 liter four cylinders, 16 valves, single overhead cam.
- 54:23How much is it going for?
- 54:24I missed that
- 54:2433, 000.
- 54:25It's
- 54:28a
- 54:30The Sam Linder Honda in California.
- 54:33You're shitting me.
- 54:34Nope.
- 54:35Sam Linder out of his mind, Honda in California.
- 54:38That is insane.
- 54:4033 grand for a 30 year old car.
- 54:43But, but
- 54:44not even a good 30 year old car.
- 54:46At least it was something that I wanted.
- 54:48Not a fricking Accord EX.
- 54:50But it's, it's white.
- 54:53Well, did they really make any other exciting color?
- 54:56It's, it's
- 54:57not silver.
- 54:58Yeah.
- 54:59To quote Hazmat, that white makes it rare.
- 55:02It's rare.
- 55:03Well, considering there was a lot of, you're right, there were a lot
- 55:05of brown, gold, champagne y ones.
- 55:09I'm throwing up in the back of my throat just thinking about it.
- 55:12The next car after that is a 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 with 10 miles on the odometer.
- 55:18It's exterior color is metallic.
- 55:21That's all it says.
- 55:22And it's 55, 555.
- 55:26I just want to point out that metallic in my mind immediately
- 55:29conjured up the word rust.
- 55:31Cause rust is metallic.
- 55:32It's called
- 55:35patina.
- 55:38My brand new patina truck.
- 55:40I mean, for 55 grand, just hold out for the F 150 lightning people.
- 55:44Yeah.
- 55:44Right.
- 55:45Nobody wants a Dodge from 2000, please.
- 55:49Unless it's a Cummins.
- 55:50Maybe.
- 55:51Well, no, it's 55, 555 because Facebook Marketplace wouldn't let
- 55:55them put in the correct price.
- 55:57The real price is 1234 like all Facebook Marketplace ads.
- 56:02Ah, terrible.
- 56:03Speaking of which, the Passat is still for sale.
- 56:06Facebook people, somebody buy this damn thing.
- 56:09I need it to go away.
- 56:11It is lost.
- 56:13Somebody find it.
- 56:15He's going to find his way to a wrecker.
- 56:17No, it's a good running car.
- 56:19Yeah.
- 56:20Speaking of Volkswagens, there was a brand new 2001 GTI for sale for auction.
- 56:27I believe it was Germany.
- 56:28It was in the UK.
- 56:30Yeah.
- 56:30It's a silver 25th anniversary edition, which they did not bring the 25th
- 56:35anniversary edition over to the U S came over a year later as the three, three
- 56:39seven, but it's got the BBS wheels, the special interior, you know, all that good
- 56:43stuff sold a brand new car for 30, 000.
- 56:4638,000 pounds.
- 56:4838, 2 50.
- 56:49So translates to 52,494.
- 56:52I remember there being the 25th anniversary, GTI in this country.
- 56:57'cause it came in the three colors.
- 56:58It came in black.
- 56:59It came in that bumblebee yellow and it came in that candy blue and they
- 57:03said it was a 25th anniversary or they just sang that and it was 3, 3 7.
- 57:08Ah,
- 57:08they were sold here as the 20 ae.
- 57:11The 20th.
- 57:11That's right.
- 57:12Anniversary cards.
- 57:13Oh, that's
- 57:13right.
- 57:14Because you have to remember the GTI came in Europe earlier than it did here.
- 57:19Here it came out in 1983.
- 57:20That's the date we set at.
- 57:22So 20 years from there, 2003, 2004.
- 57:25You're right.
- 57:25You're right.
- 57:26You're right.
- 57:26Right.
- 57:27Yeah.
- 57:2752 grand for a Mark IV VW, especially a 150 horse motor.
- 57:31Yeah.
- 57:31No, thank you.
- 57:32But I found something interesting this month.
- 57:34You know, you've heard of the Flying Spur, which is a Bentley.
- 57:38It's a, Volkswagen product, we'll call it what it is.
- 57:40It's, it's an A8 somewhere underneath there.
- 57:42A gentleman decided that having a, what is considered a rare Bentley to begin
- 57:48with wasn't rare enough, he wanted to turn it into a ute that's right, folks.
- 57:53He contracted with a builder.
- 57:56To his specifications to develop a Bentley flying spur pickup truck.
- 58:02And it looks like every other Mark four Volkswagen pickup truck
- 58:05conversion that you'd imagine.
- 58:07Who gave Daniel access to a flying spur?
- 58:11In all honesty, the build quality is really good.
- 58:13I love the teak wood finish and all that, but again, it conjures
- 58:17up my quintessential question of.
- 58:19Why?
- 58:20Why didn't they just buy a Chevy SSR?
- 58:23I don't know.
- 58:23That's exactly what it looks like.
- 58:25It's terrible.
- 58:26It's absolutely terrible.
- 58:27Granted, Bentley doesn't make a ute.
- 58:29They don't make a pickup.
- 58:31They make the Bentayga, whatever that is, Toreg.
- 58:34They should have done this to a Bentayga.
- 58:36That would have looked also terrible.
- 58:38I mean, I just don't get this.
- 58:39I
- 58:40mean,
- 58:40this goes back to what Tanya says all the time.
- 58:42Rich people doing rich people things because nobody in the right
- 58:47mind.
- 58:48The best
- 58:48part of the article was this guy spent quarter million dollars
- 58:51in the car alone, if not more.
- 58:53The.
- 58:54Custom Coach Builder said we will not disclose how much he
- 58:57spent to do this conversion.
- 58:59So I'm assuming he probably doubled down on this vehicle.
- 59:03So here's a half million dollar Bentley Ute.
- 59:06Have at it, folks.
- 59:07So for a little bit of levity, there is a link that you can see a visual map
- 59:14representation of the best selling cars.
- 59:17In each country around the world, in the world, we already talked about Ford
- 59:22F 150 is the greatest best selling car, this side of the galaxy, inside the Milky
- 59:29Way, since the Milky Way came about.
- 59:32Yes, in North America.
- 59:34So the United States, it's the F 150, it's the F series in Canada.
- 59:38Ford takes the cake in North America, more or less.
- 59:41And then you have like countries like Italy, where is anybody surprised
- 59:46that the Fiat Panta is the number one selling vehicle in the country?
- 59:48No, I mean, you step foot out of the airport and there's like
- 59:5250 of them in front of you.
- 59:53I love that Kosovo was the Dacia Sandero.
- 59:56You know, Germany is the Volkswagen Golf.
- 59:58I'm not really too shocked by that one either, but I think there are
- 1:00:02some interesting thing ones in there.
- 1:00:05Like, actually, I didn't know that The Irish were into the
- 1:00:07Toyota Corolla, but cool for them.
- 1:00:10Another, I think, fun fact is which is the best selling car
- 1:00:15in the most number of countries?
- 1:00:16I was going to bring that up.
- 1:00:17It's the Hilux beats everything.
- 1:00:20When you look at it, it's in the worst places on the planet.
- 1:00:24Like Australia is the outback and Africa, South America, everywhere where
- 1:00:28the roads suck, you find the Hilux like a hundred percent it's everywhere.
- 1:00:33And then if it isn't a Hilux, it was like.
- 1:00:35Toyota Land Cruiser and like other stuff, just like it.
- 1:00:37I'm like, yes.
- 1:00:39So F 150 might be King on our shores, but around the world, the
- 1:00:43high luxes, we don't get to 16
- 1:00:46countries.
- 1:00:46The Toyota Hilux is the number one vehicle.
- 1:00:49And you know what, if it was available here, I'd buy one too, because I
- 1:00:52think they're freaking awesome.
- 1:00:54It is.
- 1:00:54It's called the Toyota Tacoma.
- 1:00:55It's just cause
- 1:00:56the Toyota pickup in North America.
- 1:00:58No, it's not as good.
- 1:00:59The Hilux is better and it comes into diesel, but I did see recently.
- 1:01:03There are folks.
- 1:01:04Importing right hand drive Hilux's from overseas.
- 1:01:07And there was one at summit point at summer bash.
- 1:01:10I thought it was super cool.
- 1:01:11It took me completely by surprise.
- 1:01:13Cause I'm like, what is this Navy blue thing that looks sort
- 1:01:15of like an eighties forerunner.
- 1:01:17And then I hear it, it's diesel and the guys on the wrong side of the car.
- 1:01:20And I went, Oh, that's the car from top gear.
- 1:01:22It's super cool.
- 1:01:23And I got to talk to him for just a minute.
- 1:01:25And you know, they're now coming in gray market, like a lot
- 1:01:27of other cars from overseas.
- 1:01:29And I think that's super neat.
- 1:01:30I don't know why Toyota just doesn't sell the Hilux.
- 1:01:33Here in Hilux trim, the way we all have seen it on television, the way we
- 1:01:38would want to, to your point, I think another car that got my attention and
- 1:01:42it was surprising to see in places that I didn't expect was the Renault
- 1:01:45Clio kind of popping up here and there.
- 1:01:47And I also thought it was interesting that more SCOTAs, which are a
- 1:01:51derivative of VAG, they're just rebadged are showing up more in Europe
- 1:01:56than the Volkswagen's themselves.
- 1:01:58Kind of interesting.
- 1:01:59Do we want to address that there are six countries where the.
- 1:02:03A Dacia of some sort is the number one selling car.
- 1:02:07I want to address that the Tesla, any Tesla at all, has made this list.
- 1:02:11The Model 3 in the Netherlands and Norway.
- 1:02:14Norwegians are pretty electric.
- 1:02:17Yeah, but why a Tesla?
- 1:02:18Because
- 1:02:19Tesla basically, who else was there?
- 1:02:22Yeah.
- 1:02:22There's other electric cars out there.
- 1:02:24I also want to point out with the Dacia, did we know that there
- 1:02:28are five different Dacia models?
- 1:02:30Stop melting my
- 1:02:31brain.
- 1:02:32The Sandero and then the Sandero adjacent.
- 1:02:34So there's the Sandero, which takes
- 1:02:36two
- 1:02:37countries.
- 1:02:37There's the Duster, the Logan.
- 1:02:40The docker twice.
- 1:02:42So there's four different ones.
- 1:02:43Three more than I knew about.
- 1:02:45That's three more than there should be.
- 1:02:47I love how this Saudi Arabia loves the Hyundai accent.
- 1:02:51Also Kazakhstan buys Camrys.
- 1:02:54I think that's like the funniest thing on this map, hands down.
- 1:02:59I get crazy this, but anyway, I think when you guys dive into
- 1:03:02this, it'll be in our show notes.
- 1:03:03It's actually very interesting to see the highest selling
- 1:03:07numbers of cars around the world.
- 1:03:09It's pretty shocking and very revealing too.
- 1:03:12So pretty surprise,
- 1:03:13surprise.
- 1:03:14The Russian leader is a lot of, I mean, how arrogant are the Russians
- 1:03:19and the Americans that their number one selling vehicle is their trash.
- 1:03:23Well, I mean, they're not allowed to import anything
- 1:03:25and the
- 1:03:28Italy and Germany or, and, and, uh, Spain Makes sense.
- 1:03:32Yeah.
- 1:03:32You know, and, and yeah.
- 1:03:33So,
- 1:03:34well, if it's a Sayat in Spain, it's just a Volkswagen.
- 1:03:36I mean, let's be serious, right?
- 1:03:37That's
- 1:03:38Sure.
- 1:03:38So Volkswagen really is not the car of the people.
- 1:03:40Toyota is the car of the people because more people across the globe by Toyota.
- 1:03:45Speaking of around the world.
- 1:03:47I came across a video recently, a husband and wife from the
- 1:03:51Netherlands, of all places, like we were talking about with their very
- 1:03:53electric Ford with their Teslas.
- 1:03:55This gentleman still runs around in the 1915 model T as a sort of retirement,
- 1:04:01you know, adventure with his wife.
- 1:04:03He decided to traverse the world North, South in his model T.
- 1:04:07So he started in Edom, you know, where the, cheese is from in the
- 1:04:11Netherlands, and he made their first trip all the way down to South Africa.
- 1:04:16It was 22, 000 kilometers, and they had not a single problem with the vehicle.
- 1:04:20Their first leg took 180 days.
- 1:04:22They set off on their second leg of the trip in the United States, uh,
- 1:04:26doing the United States and Canada and basically a little bit of Latin America.
- 1:04:2828, 000 kilometers suffered two failures.
- 1:04:33One of which was a flat tire and the other one was a malfunctioning
- 1:04:36alternator on their third leg.
- 1:04:38They did South America, and then they were going to do their fourth leg,
- 1:04:42which was in Australia, New Zealand, and that part of the world, again,
- 1:04:46got traversing North to South, kind of keeping Theme, unfortunately, when
- 1:04:49they returned home, they were involved in a car accident in the Netherlands
- 1:04:53and the Model T was destroyed.
- 1:04:55It was completely totaled.
- 1:04:56So there's actually still a campaign going on.
- 1:04:58Cause this was right at the front end of COVID and some other things and whatnot
- 1:05:02to try to get these folks back in the Model T and finish their world tour.
- 1:05:07You know, it's not that easy to just go get one anymore.
- 1:05:09If you don't already have one to buy one from somebody else.
- 1:05:12And it's not the same car again, going back to that, that Philosophy lesson about
- 1:05:15Theseus's ship, you start and rebuild.
- 1:05:17Is it really the same car?
- 1:05:18And I believe they were still working to do that.
- 1:05:21There was a big push from Ford to help these people get back on the road.
- 1:05:25And as I dug into it a little bit more, because this is an older video that
- 1:05:29I had seen for the first time, you know, keeping with our lost and found
- 1:05:31idea here, I didn't see any follow up as to whether or not they were able
- 1:05:35to complete this particular journey.
- 1:05:37But I thought it was really, really cool.
- 1:05:38It's about a four or five minute video.
- 1:05:40Telling their story and all that.
- 1:05:42And if you haven't seen it before, it's definitely worth spending the
- 1:05:45amount of time to check it out.
- 1:05:46Where do you find an alternator for 1915 model?
- 1:05:50Yeah, no, that is a question I just can't answer, but you know what I can answer
- 1:05:56top 20 highest selling cars at auction.
- 1:05:59So another.
- 1:06:00Another article that came across my desk, it just kind of falls in line
- 1:06:03with this whole theme that we always talk about a loss of found about
- 1:06:06ridiculous auctions and whatnot.
- 1:06:08So the low end of this scale is in the 17, 80 million range.
- 1:06:12The upper end is on the 50 million range.
- 1:06:15No surprise here.
- 1:06:1711 of 20, over 50 percent of the vehicles on this top 20 highest grossing.
- 1:06:22Auction cars of all time are Ferraris.
- 1:06:25A handful of others are also Italian, they're Alfa Romeos.
- 1:06:29You have the rest of the lineup inside of there, outside of
- 1:06:31Italians, are mostly British.
- 1:06:33McLarens, Jaguars, Aston Martins, etc.
- 1:06:36So an interesting lineup, if you haven't seen them, check them out.
- 1:06:39With the way prices have been going, I'm surprised to not
- 1:06:43see a Porsche on this list.
- 1:06:45Uh, yeah, the singers aren't there yet, so it's only a matter of time.
- 1:06:50They're, they're only a 2 million.
- 1:06:51You gotta, you gotta cross that 17 million ceiling.
- 1:06:54Oh my God.
- 1:06:55Wipe my ass with 2 million.
- 1:06:59You know, Tonya mentioned plaid earlier.
- 1:07:01You know how we talked about with Donovan.
- 1:07:04couple episodes back about where this plaid comes from ludicrous
- 1:07:07mode and all these kinds of things.
- 1:07:09It comes from the movie space balls, right?
- 1:07:11But plaid is not an uncommon thing in the automotive world.
- 1:07:15And it actually was started at Volkswagen.
- 1:07:17Yes.
- 1:07:18There's a article on the Volkswagen newsroom that came out.
- 1:07:21goes into this in more detail, but essentially there was a female
- 1:07:25designer in Germany back in the day.
- 1:07:29Back in the 60s, she joined as a young lady.
- 1:07:31She'd formerly been a painter and chocolate tier candy box designer.
- 1:07:35So she had an artistic background, knew how to put
- 1:07:38colors together, things like that.
- 1:07:39They hired her in their fabrics and colors department in Wolfsburg.
- 1:07:45Apologize.
- 1:07:46I'm sure that's not the best accented pronunciation, but close enough.
- 1:07:50And yes, she is basically the founder of the plaid interior that we have
- 1:07:57come to know as standard GTI today.
- 1:08:01And also as a side note, the golf ball shift knob was also her doing as well.
- 1:08:06It's kind of a sidebar.
- 1:08:07So she had a lot of influences essentially from being in and around Great Britain
- 1:08:13because Great Britain is known for the tartan and all that, which is just, you
- 1:08:16know, the piece of cloth that's plaid.
- 1:08:18And so she got inspired from that.
- 1:08:20And even though I think I was talking about how she actually was very much like
- 1:08:24a black and white color palette person.
- 1:08:26Like she did enjoy like just having that contrast, but then still wanted
- 1:08:30to marry some color to break that up.
- 1:08:33And so she got inspired by the plaid that she saw in great Britain
- 1:08:38and incorporated that into the interior design of the golf and then
- 1:08:43clearly a smash hit and carried on.
- 1:08:46To this day,
- 1:08:47that's not all.
- 1:08:48She also discovered what we now know is metallic paint on our vehicles.
- 1:08:53She discovered the iridescent pearl color.
- 1:08:56Do you apply to a car service using transparent foil?
- 1:08:59So anybody with a metallic car in their driveway with the
- 1:09:02metallic flake and all that.
- 1:09:04You can say thank you to, uh, gunhill, to, to gunhill.
- 1:09:07Proud Gunhill.
- 1:09:08Let's get it right.
- 1:09:09Right.
- 1:09:11, so I'm not saying all roads lead back to Volkswagen.
- 1:09:13Interesting things are invented sometimes by accident and come
- 1:09:17from the weirdest of places.
- 1:09:18We've seen plaid interiors pop up in all sorts of cars, but that's kind
- 1:09:22of really the inception mainstream that it became like this cult thing.
- 1:09:27To have these certain patterns and there is a specific GTI red, black, gray,
- 1:09:31and white pattern that we've all come accustomed to, which is kind of cool.
- 1:09:35And you're seeing that resurface even today in the most recent
- 1:09:38mark eight models of the GTI.
- 1:09:40It hasn't gone away.
- 1:09:41They've tried.
- 1:09:42Variations on the theme over the years, but we've always gone
- 1:09:45back to that original pattern.
- 1:09:46And it's just, it looks really cool.
- 1:09:47And it still holds up to this day.
- 1:09:50So Brad, I found something really interesting this month.
- 1:09:52Did you know?
- 1:09:53Oh yeah.
- 1:09:54Do I know what
- 1:09:54this is?
- 1:09:55I think I have found the oldest new vehicle.
- 1:09:59I think I've broken your record.
- 1:10:00In speaking with a guest that will be on a future episode of
- 1:10:04Break Fix, he informed us that he has a new, never been sold 1950s.
- 1:10:11Porsche diesel tractor available with certificate of authenticity from the
- 1:10:15America Porsche Diesel Corporation, and it's located in Virginia.
- 1:10:19More on that later this season, when we interview Sal Finnelli, president and
- 1:10:25owner operator of Porsche Diesel USA.
- 1:10:28It's a very interesting episode in the fact that it is car adjacent
- 1:10:32and brings to light a side of.
- 1:10:34You know, motorsports icon, Porsche that many people are not familiar with.
- 1:10:38So be on the lookout for that episode later this season, as we go over Porsche
- 1:10:42diesel tractors with mountain man, Dan, as my cohost on that particular episode.
- 1:10:46But I also found something else.
- 1:10:48I have to thank mountain man, Dan, for this one as well.
- 1:10:51It is a 1978.
- 1:10:54Classic film.
- 1:10:56No
- 1:10:56thanks to be given.
- 1:10:58It stars Annie Potts, Janine from Ghostbusters, and Mark Hamill,
- 1:11:03Luke Skywalker from Star Wars, in a movie called Corvette Summer.
- 1:11:07And although Dan wanted to do this viewing party and review of the movie,
- 1:11:11I don't think it needs to be done.
- 1:11:13I think all you need to do is watch this four minute trailer
- 1:11:15and that's four minutes too much.
- 1:11:18Hot garbage.
- 1:11:20What got me though is Where the hell did they film this?
- 1:11:24It's a right hand drive Corvette.
- 1:11:27Yes.
- 1:11:27Toward the end, I was like, wait a second, pause.
- 1:11:32Why is he in the passenger seat driving?
- 1:11:34It
- 1:11:36to realize it was Mark Hamill at first too.
- 1:11:37Like, antipods, right away, I got it.
- 1:11:39The plot line is implausible.
- 1:11:42It starts off like a seventies porn.
- 1:11:44I mean, it's terrible.
- 1:11:45Terrible.
- 1:11:46So I just had to look up cause very familiar with Hamill's career.
- 1:11:50I mean, everybody is.
- 1:11:51I mean, he, Star Wars, basically, and then a lot of voice acting.
- 1:11:55The Joker.
- 1:11:55And Annie, yes, Miss Potts, people know her from Ghostbusters, people should
- 1:11:59know her from Designing Women, people should know her from several other shows.
- 1:12:02When I was watching this too, I was like, how did this not derail her career?
- 1:12:08I had to look this up.
- 1:12:09This was her fourth credit in IMDb.
- 1:12:12So this is her fourth on This could have been a
- 1:12:14career Ending movie for her.
- 1:12:16We could have had somebody else in the Ghostbusters movie
- 1:12:20because of this hot trash.
- 1:12:21I mean, who else would get flack to the Sugarbaker sisters other than Annie Potts?
- 1:12:25Come on now.
- 1:12:26I don't know.
- 1:12:26Dr.
- 1:12:27Venkman.
- 1:12:27Dr.
- 1:12:28Venkman.
- 1:12:28You got a call.
- 1:12:29God, I love those movies.
- 1:12:31That is must see TV.
- 1:12:32Dumpster fire.
- 1:12:33It
- 1:12:34must see it go into
- 1:12:35the garbage can.
- 1:12:36I mean, I guess, I guess Mark Hamill's lucky that his career wasn't sidelined.
- 1:12:41Yeah, he's lucky
- 1:12:41he didn't, he's lucky he got to meet Luke Skywalker again after this.
- 1:12:46I would, I gotta look it up and see where did this fall in his
- 1:12:50We're gonna call up our friends at Take Two and Everything I Learned From Movies.
- 1:12:55We do need to do a group.
- 1:12:56Viewing of this like mystery science 3000 style on this
- 1:13:00thing, because it is atrocious.
- 1:13:03Check out the YouTube clip where we show the teaser for this.
- 1:13:06I mean, it is all the glitter and glam that you would expect from any 1978 movie.
- 1:13:10It is time for us to move on to random EVs and concepts and Famous
- 1:13:16name in the motor sports world.
- 1:13:17Dennis Palatov has come up with a new radical battery idea for cars.
- 1:13:22He's famous for designing some very sleek and aerodynamic concepts and some very
- 1:13:28lightweight cars, kind of on the nose of, The ideology of Lotus, add lightness,
- 1:13:33then power, those types of things.
- 1:13:35And now he's saying, you know, for the EV world, same idea, highly streamlined
- 1:13:39vehicles, super light, all this kind of thing, granted, he's designing
- 1:13:43around, you know, tube frame, two seater, almost roadster type cars.
- 1:13:48But what he's also saying is, look, folks, you're running around doing 40
- 1:13:52miles a day in a car that has 400 miles of range, and then you're doing all
- 1:13:56these, you know, recharging exercises.
- 1:13:58He does specifically call out Tesla a couple of times in the article.
- 1:14:02And he says, why not put in batteries that only provide you with what you need?
- 1:14:05This way we could distribute the load of the batteries
- 1:14:09necessary for all of these EVs.
- 1:14:11We've talked about multiple times, where are we going to
- 1:14:13get all the precious metals?
- 1:14:14If they're pulling back on cobalt, where are we going to get the cobalt
- 1:14:18necessary to build these batteries?
- 1:14:19So to his point, I get it.
- 1:14:21If you're only driving a certain distance, smaller batteries makes more sense.
- 1:14:26However, if you want to go anywhere further than your normal
- 1:14:29commute, This doesn't work.
- 1:14:31I'm kind of torn on what he's proposing.
- 1:14:34It doesn't not make sense, but on the same token, meh, whatever.
- 1:14:38I thought at first, you know, with the clickbait headline, he
- 1:14:41was going to introduce some new revolutionary battery technology.
- 1:14:44Just wasn't the case.
- 1:14:46The similar concept to the naysayers that say you don't need
- 1:14:49a 700 horsepower Dodge Hellcat.
- 1:14:51You just need a car that can get you from point A to point B.
- 1:14:55Going the speed limit.
- 1:14:57My response to that is, fuck you.
- 1:14:59Yeah, I do.
- 1:15:01Because I can't.
- 1:15:02Because I want Merca.
- 1:15:03Merca.
- 1:15:05Well, the answer is, you're absolutely right.
- 1:15:07However, I still want one.
- 1:15:08What does he drive?
- 1:15:09He drives a Hilux, doesn't he?
- 1:15:11Drives a car that he designed himself.
- 1:15:13ACS Endero, Logan, or Docker.
- 1:15:16Yeah.
- 1:15:16How many resources did he burn up in research and development for his own car?
- 1:15:20But on the brighter side of concepts, Like we talked about names are important.
- 1:15:25There's a name that's coming back.
- 1:15:26What if I told you Integra?
- 1:15:31Oh, sorry.
- 1:15:32Can you repeat the question?
- 1:15:33No, I'm just kidding.
- 1:15:35I don't hate the Integra that much.
- 1:15:38It was fine.
- 1:15:38Integra slash RSX, I guess.
- 1:15:40I think that's probably exciting.
- 1:15:42It should be good news for us.
- 1:15:43Cause it's what should be a hot hatch entry.
- 1:15:47Liftback, there's always
- 1:15:48a liftback.
- 1:15:49Liftback, hot hatch, whatever.
- 1:15:50A compact car that's not a freaking saloon.
- 1:15:55Acura, Honda, whatever.
- 1:15:57The Civic is going away.
- 1:15:58What else do they have?
- 1:16:00What was it?
- 1:16:0091 Accord EX.
- 1:16:02Yep.
- 1:16:03Available today.
- 1:16:0333 grand, same price as a Civic Type R.
- 1:16:06So, I mean, this is a good thing to see a sporty little compact.
- 1:16:10My guess is it'll be an SAV, just like the Eclipse.
- 1:16:13You know That would
- 1:16:14be terrible.
- 1:16:15And the worst part is there's no pictures of it.
- 1:16:17There's nothing other than the shot of the headlight, which it looks like an
- 1:16:21NSX headlight, to be honest with you, with an embossed Integra font there.
- 1:16:25But to your point about the Civic going away, Is it really going away
- 1:16:29or is it just switching places?
- 1:16:30Is it changing outfits, right?
- 1:16:31Is it the Civic now becoming the Integra?
- 1:16:34Immediately when I read that I was like, what's the over under on this just
- 1:16:37being a Type R with different badges on
- 1:16:38it?
- 1:16:39What's the over and under being the size of an Accord or, good point Brad, being
- 1:16:43a freaking compact crossover thing?
- 1:16:45Could end up being a Acura version of the HR V or whatever that thing is called.
- 1:16:49The smaller one?
- 1:16:52It's their version of the, it's the Mustang Mach E.
- 1:16:54It's the Integra, except it's a fricking SUV.
- 1:16:58It's just, it's an Integra on stilts.
- 1:17:00Yeah, it's interesting.
- 1:17:01Look forward to seeing what comes of it.
- 1:17:02Not going to get too excited yet till they have some more photos leaked.
- 1:17:06We might as well hold our expectations low so that we'll be pleasantly surprised.
- 1:17:09I agree with that statement.
- 1:17:10That's what I'm going to go with.
- 1:17:11That's what I'm going to lead with.
- 1:17:12And we will follow up on this car when we know more about it.
- 1:17:15Tanya, as we know, has an affinity for small hatchbacks
- 1:17:18and small vehicles in general.
- 1:17:20Here's something new from Minnie.
- 1:17:22It's a small, small world.
- 1:17:27Yes, apparently, and I do not know, I apologize, who this famous
- 1:17:32fashion designer out of Britain is.
- 1:17:34Not very famous after all.
- 1:17:36Well, I mean, not over here on this side of the pond, but likely over
- 1:17:40there, but fashion guru, Paul Smith has re imagined, redesigned a Mini
- 1:17:47Cooper SE to be simple and sustainable.
- 1:17:51So what does that mean exactly?
- 1:17:52It's environmentally friendly.
- 1:17:54It's simplicity in its beauty, if you will.
- 1:17:57Oh my God.
- 1:17:58I kind of liked the, where he went with it.
- 1:18:00Cause essentially he gutted this thing.
- 1:18:02It's ready for the track.
- 1:18:03100%.
- 1:18:04I agree with that.
- 1:18:05And some of the things he did, especially those door cards and whatnot.
- 1:18:09I'm like, I'm going to copy that for my race car.
- 1:18:11Cause I like the way that turned out.
- 1:18:13I read the troll posts at the bottom.
- 1:18:16We'll call them reviews.
- 1:18:18We'll call them reviews.
- 1:18:18I'll be nice.
- 1:18:19I mean, most people are like, this is heinous.
- 1:18:21This is disgusting.
- 1:18:23Why would you ever do this?
- 1:18:23This is a publicity stunt, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:18:26I'm like, yeah, I see it.
- 1:18:28Nobody's ever going to buy a car.
- 1:18:29That's basically a gutted race car.
- 1:18:31No.
- 1:18:32And I don't think this is, I'm not sure this is supposed.
- 1:18:35To be out for production.
- 1:18:36I feel like this is just kind of a one off like, Oh, I did this.
- 1:18:39Oh, we can be sustainable.
- 1:18:40We can be more green with our cars, but no, absolutely.
- 1:18:43I was trying to like read through and be like, all right.
- 1:18:45So yeah, strip like everything out.
- 1:18:47Did you leave the sound deadening?
- 1:18:49Because no one is going to drive one of these on the road when you have none
- 1:18:52of the sound bending and the carpet, because people already don't like sporty
- 1:18:56suspension because it's too, yeah.
- 1:18:58So this would be heinous.
- 1:19:00to drive on.
- 1:19:01Yeah, everything is like, what's left of the door cards is made out of cork
- 1:19:05and the dashboard is like made out of cork and also partially clear.
- 1:19:09Essentially, he stripped out anything that he deemed was not necessary.
- 1:19:13So not really adding value or function, strip that out of the car.
- 1:19:17Like, I'm not opposed to the stairwell kind of.
- 1:19:20Parking back to the day when the steering wheel was a steering wheel.
- 1:19:22And he stripped out all the buttons and all that stuff.
- 1:19:24I'm not on board that we wrapped it in a tennis racket handle wrap.
- 1:19:32That's a little bit,
- 1:19:34we
- 1:19:34could have spent a
- 1:19:34little bit more money there.
- 1:19:35I think.
- 1:19:36That gets sticky.
- 1:19:37And when it gets hot too, so gross,
- 1:19:39I just had to unwrap two of my tennis rackets because the wrap
- 1:19:42disintegrated, touched it and it just powder black dust everywhere.
- 1:19:47You thought the soft
- 1:19:48touch stuff in the two thousands was bad.
- 1:19:51That's going to be nasty.
- 1:19:52No.
- 1:19:53Yeah.
- 1:19:53So, I mean, it would have been better off just like whatever the base material,
- 1:19:56the steering wheel is just polish it nicely sanded and just like an old wood
- 1:20:01steering wheel.
- 1:20:02Exactly.
- 1:20:02Exactly.
- 1:20:03Anyway.
- 1:20:04So this is this fashion designers.
- 1:20:06Bespoke, simplistic, bare bones car.
- 1:20:09The outside is unpainted, so going back to the car earlier where it's bare metal,
- 1:20:14I guess this is, I would hope, at least clear coated or something, but no paint
- 1:20:18on it, so you get silver, gunmetal gray.
- 1:20:23You can have any color you want, as long as it's metallic.
- 1:20:25It's ready to be painted, folks.
- 1:20:29Inside is painted blue, though, it makes no sense.
- 1:20:31They didn't build a car from the ground up.
- 1:20:33He took an existing car and stripped it of everything.
- 1:20:35So he obviously started with a blue car.
- 1:20:39I have issues with this.
- 1:20:40Okay.
- 1:20:41First of all, every fashion designer car I've ever seen is always to use your quote
- 1:20:47hot garbage,
- 1:20:49right?
- 1:20:50So I don't care who it comes from, whatever.
- 1:20:52I mean, this guy could be Gucci or I don't care.
- 1:20:57Right.
- 1:20:57It doesn't matter.
- 1:20:58Ralph Lauren.
- 1:20:59Whatever.
- 1:21:00That's usually the other extreme.
- 1:21:02Yeah.
- 1:21:02Right.
- 1:21:02Of ridiculous.
- 1:21:04Yeah.
- 1:21:04Of ridiculous.
- 1:21:05But what I'm getting at here is, first of all, it's made of sustainable materials.
- 1:21:09The car is still out of freaking metal.
- 1:21:12So I don't get it.
- 1:21:13It's not like he rebuilt the car out of recycled cardboard.
- 1:21:16Like you mentioned on last month's episode.
- 1:21:18Second of all, the chemical process to strip that car down to bare metal
- 1:21:22wasn't necessarily Eco friendly.
- 1:21:25Third of all, the stuff he stripped out of the car, I don't think that
- 1:21:29was the biggest detriment to the planet, the stuff that was in there.
- 1:21:32Because here's the deal, all that cork for the longest time, weren't they
- 1:21:35even talking about they had to make synthetic corks for wine bottles because
- 1:21:39it's an endangered species of tree and you can't do all this kind of stuff.
- 1:21:43So I'm like, I don't really buy that.
- 1:21:45And the other thing was you take away my racer brain.
- 1:21:48It's the first car I looked at and said, holy crap.
- 1:21:52You just made a Tesla look high class because it is kind of janky inside.
- 1:21:57If you're don't appreciate it from a motorsport perspective.
- 1:22:00So I think the outside actually looks nice.
- 1:22:03Wheels are gross.
- 1:22:04Those
- 1:22:04wheels are disgusting.
- 1:22:06I'm
- 1:22:06not looking at the wheels cause you can change those easily, but whatever
- 1:22:09minor, like the trim things that you change, it doesn't look bad.
- 1:22:13I think exterior wise, put a different set of wheels on it and paint them thing.
- 1:22:17It looks good.
- 1:22:17The interior.
- 1:22:18No, would I want that as my car?
- 1:22:21No, but I think I would take your arguments and take come
- 1:22:23at a different perspective.
- 1:22:25I don't think sustainably.
- 1:22:26He's trying to make 100 percent sustainable car.
- 1:22:30I think you could take it from the perspective of that's not attainable.
- 1:22:33However, There are many things you could do to make a car more sustainable.
- 1:22:38It doesn't need all these things.
- 1:22:39I think there's a problem with how gutted the interior is because
- 1:22:43realistically, how does this pass safety?
- 1:22:46So I think that's an issue.
- 1:22:47And I forgot what my third point was.
- 1:22:50Nonetheless, I think this is just an artistic piece.
- 1:22:53And we just leave it at that.
- 1:22:55It's more of a, get people thinking that there may be more simplistic things you
- 1:22:59can do that are a little more sustainable, but I don't think at the end of the
- 1:23:02day, you're like, what's sustainable making the whole damn thing out of wood.
- 1:23:05No, that's not sustainable either.
- 1:23:07Cause now we're talking about Vietnam.
- 1:23:08Did I
- 1:23:08mean, come on now.
- 1:23:09Well, he did it, but now, but now the argument is, well, you're
- 1:23:11chopping down trees, right?
- 1:23:13So I go, I go, I go back.
- 1:23:16Yeah, well, not even that really, but I go back and forth on that because some of the
- 1:23:20things I thought were really cool again, from a racer perspective, he replaced the
- 1:23:24glass with a new kind of Lexan, right?
- 1:23:26I forget what he called it.
- 1:23:28which I thought was really cool, super lightweight, but plastic made from
- 1:23:34petroleum glass is made from sand.
- 1:23:36Yeah, I don't know how they made the glass, but for instance, he replaced
- 1:23:40the floor mats that he did put back in were apparently from recycled plastic.
- 1:23:44Okay.
- 1:23:45That's a sustainable thing to do.
- 1:23:46We're burning through plastic.
- 1:23:48Like it's.
- 1:23:49nobody's business, whether it's plastic bottles, food packaging, etc, etc.
- 1:23:53So if they're able to take that or even tires and recycle the rubber
- 1:23:57and turn them into floor mats, I mean, that's a positive thing.
- 1:23:59So there are aspects of, Hey, we can be more sustainable
- 1:24:02and friendly in our design.
- 1:24:03You don't have to start from scratch every time with petroleum products to
- 1:24:07make every component in the vehicle.
- 1:24:08The one thing that was missing from this, as we kind of Finalize this thought
- 1:24:13stood out to me as I read the whole article, not one time did they mention
- 1:24:18how much weight he saved out of car.
- 1:24:20I mean, I would imagine it has to
- 1:24:21be a lot.
- 1:24:22I'd be curious, but they wouldn't say they didn't weigh it.
- 1:24:24So it's kind of like,
- 1:24:26I don't know what the point.
- 1:24:27of it, of any of it was other than like the guy did it.
- 1:24:31I'm surprised we generated this much conversation on it, but good talk.
- 1:24:34It's exactly.
- 1:24:35Moving on.
- 1:24:35We'd be remiss if we didn't move on.
- 1:24:38It's time to talk about Tesla.
- 1:24:40Oh God, here we go.
- 1:24:43So there's three points to hit here.
- 1:24:45And I think it ties back to some things we were already talking about
- 1:24:48earlier around supply chain issues.
- 1:24:50Microchip delays, things of that nature.
- 1:24:52So the Tesla semi truck, was it just me or did that thing
- 1:24:56drop off the face of the earth?
- 1:24:57Cause that, that thing was coming.
- 1:24:59Like I thought five years ago already, it was hot and heavy and
- 1:25:02orders were made and we were going to make so many of them in crickets.
- 1:25:05Which is, let me offend some people, kind of par for the Tesla course, right?
- 1:25:09Because every time, like, we're announcing something, it's always like six years
- 1:25:12later that it actually comes to fruition.
- 1:25:15Whatever.
- 1:25:16But, you know, that boy who cried wolf gets a little old after a while.
- 1:25:20So the Tesla's truck is once again delayed and it's very unclear as to what the delay
- 1:25:27is but it sounds like it is essentially supply chain issues and refocusing.
- 1:25:33Kind of what we were talking about earlier with the Ford is they're
- 1:25:36refocusing their energy and The supplies that they do have, the semi and the
- 1:25:40Cybertruck as they both are delayed.
- 1:25:42They do kind of talk a little bit about, We believe we remain on track
- 1:25:46to build our first model Y vehicles in Berlin and Austin in 2021.
- 1:25:50Well, 2021 is almost over folks.
- 1:25:52The pace of the respective production ramps will be influenced by the
- 1:25:55successful introduction of many new product and manufacturing technologies.
- 1:25:58ongoing supply chain related challenges and regional permitting.
- 1:26:02To better focus on these factories and due to the limited availability of
- 1:26:05battery cells and global supply chain challenges, we have shifted the launch
- 1:26:10of the semi truck program to 2022.
- 1:26:13We are also making progress on the industrialization of Cybertruck,
- 1:26:16which is currently planned for Austin production subsequent to Model Y.
- 1:26:20I mean, it goes hand in hand.
- 1:26:22The Cybertruck is also delayed.
- 1:26:23The Cybertruck was supposed to come out this year.
- 1:26:25It's supposed to be in production.
- 1:26:26That's not happening.
- 1:26:27That one's vague too.
- 1:26:29I would assume the whole we're shipping the model Y is part of it.
- 1:26:32There's also question as to, are they having problems with the design?
- 1:26:37Or,
- 1:26:39or could it be, they got to figure out how to resell those carbon credits that
- 1:26:45they sold everybody that got returned.
- 1:26:48Or B, is it because they're under investigation for Tesla's
- 1:26:51hitting emergency vehicles?
- 1:26:52Let's unpack that.
- 1:26:54Or, before we unpack that, C, they're seeing how well the F 150 is already
- 1:26:59putting pre sales in, and they're like, hmm, maybe this triangle blob thing
- 1:27:04polygon from Nintendo 64 days isn't what people want as a pickup truck.
- 1:27:09That's specifically why I put 100 deposit.
- 1:27:12Can
- 1:27:13we
- 1:27:13get a big doy
- 1:27:15from Brad?
- 1:27:15I mean, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
- 1:27:17So, I mean, Those people are all blind.
- 1:27:20You like the look of that thing, I guess, to each their own.
- 1:27:22I mean, I'm not a pickup truck fan, but give me the F 150 all day, every day.
- 1:27:27You can haul.
- 1:27:28I have to.
- 1:27:28If you're
- 1:27:30telling
- 1:27:30me I have to have a pickup truck, I would like a traditional looking pickup truck.
- 1:27:34So give me the F 150, give me a Rivian, give me whatever,
- 1:27:37as long as it looks good.
- 1:27:39Square body Chevy,
- 1:27:40Dan will get you one tomorrow.
- 1:27:41It's hot.
- 1:27:43I do not want one.
- 1:27:45So they are also under investigation right now because of the number
- 1:27:51of times their Teslas have struck emergency vehicles while operating
- 1:27:56in the autonomous mode, which they're still claiming is fully autonomous.
- 1:28:01And then also Elon Musk recently tweeted in the last day or so how
- 1:28:04their autonomous beta testing version, whatever the heck they're on 9.
- 1:28:082 or something.
- 1:28:09Eh, might not be that great.
- 1:28:12He's like, literally said something to that effect.
- 1:28:14In my opinion, it's not so good.
- 1:28:16Oh, okay.
- 1:28:16Yes, that's what the rest of us know.
- 1:28:18Because A, it is not fully autonomous.
- 1:28:21There's no such thing yet.
- 1:28:22There's no vehicle that you can lay down in the back seat and get to
- 1:28:26where you're going without dying.
- 1:28:27Okay.
- 1:28:28I mean, you might get there once, but I wouldn't put my
- 1:28:31face in that more than once.
- 1:28:33But it becomes a
- 1:28:34hearse at that point, you go straight to the funeral coffin,
- 1:28:40converse into a casket and you're done.
- 1:28:41I guess it's not like there's been like hundreds and hundreds of these
- 1:28:44accidents, but I mean, there's been like almost like a dozen or so over the last
- 1:28:48five years, which is more than enough.
- 1:28:51to make people go why is it always happening when there's an emergency
- 1:28:54vehicle on the side of the road with their lights flashing, particularly
- 1:28:58in night or low light conditions?
- 1:29:00What is wrong with this technology that's not seeing
- 1:29:03what it should be seeing, right?
- 1:29:04And I mean, I think it's Tesla themselves need to investigate this.
- 1:29:07That's pretty serious.
- 1:29:09Often when there's an emergency vehicle on the side of the road, there is a
- 1:29:11human being on the side of the road outside of said emergency vehicle.
- 1:29:15It
- 1:29:15does seem to be a reoccurring theme, whether it's police
- 1:29:17cars, ambulances, et cetera.
- 1:29:19It's like the camera system on the Tesla target fixates on those flashing lights.
- 1:29:24It must freak out the camera in such a way that it causes The thing to
- 1:29:29become basically like a homing beacon or like a, like a targeted missile.
- 1:29:33I mean, it's just, it's
- 1:29:34nothing happening.
- 1:29:35It's blinding something there.
- 1:29:36I have read he's very adamant.
- 1:29:39Tesla's are only going to be using the camera technology as opposed to
- 1:29:42other people's autonomous vehicles are a combination of the camera,
- 1:29:45radar, LIDAR, all these things, or, or so my understanding is the, it's
- 1:29:49kind of insistent that it's going to be a hundred percent of cameras.
- 1:29:52It's like, okay, maybe one day, but it doesn't seem like the camera technologies.
- 1:29:55Quite as good as the human eye that's paying attention, plenty of people
- 1:29:59at the hands of the wheel that have struck emergency vehicles also.
- 1:30:02So
- 1:30:03I still think the biological alternative, you know, the organics
- 1:30:07in your head are still far superior to any camera and any computer.
- 1:30:11And that's part
- 1:30:11of the debate too, is just a computer.
- 1:30:14they're not sophisticated enough to have that reason component and to
- 1:30:17understand and to get the other clues that can warn you about something.
- 1:30:22Not on a computer that small.
- 1:30:23I mean, yeah, sure.
- 1:30:24If you got big blue from IBM in the backseat.
- 1:30:27Yeah.
- 1:30:28Yeah.
- 1:30:28I
- 1:30:28mean, if you've got three stories of
- 1:30:33I'm sure it can be better than the human eye, but yeah, no, at any rate,
- 1:30:37Brad's a huge fan of Toyota, as we learned earlier, but we
- 1:30:40heard something interesting
- 1:30:41and this is something we don't hear very often, but BMW has recalled it's super a
- 1:30:45model or wait, I didn't get that right.
- 1:30:47BMW has recalled it's Toyota super a model for a breaking issue.
- 1:30:52Basically, it causes them to not have brake assist, which means it's
- 1:30:56very difficult to stop the car.
- 1:30:58And once it's in motion, so if you have a BMW Supra, make sure you
- 1:31:03get down to your BMW dealer and get this BMW Supra issue taken care of.
- 1:31:09Is that the Zupra?
- 1:31:10Zupra with a Z?
- 1:31:11Yes, your BMW Zupra.
- 1:31:13So I have to say, I actually rode in one of these recently.
- 1:31:17During summer bash weekend, I got to the right I got to right seat in a new Supra.
- 1:31:22I went in with a little bit of prejudice going, uh, it's just a Z4.
- 1:31:27It's just a Z4.
- 1:31:28It's not going to be that good.
- 1:31:29I will be honest with you.
- 1:31:31It is really, really good.
- 1:31:34Surprisingly good, incredibly fast, very agile, unlike any
- 1:31:39other new car I've been in.
- 1:31:40Granted, there are cars that are better.
- 1:31:42I will take a 2016, 2017 ACR any day of the week.
- 1:31:46911 GT3.
- 1:31:49The Corvette C7 I think is a better car overall, but for what it is as
- 1:31:54this cooperative effort between two brands that I never saw coming together
- 1:31:59to work on something like this.
- 1:32:01It's really, really good.
- 1:32:03It's the best.
- 1:32:04BMW Toyota has ever built.
- 1:32:06You mean is the best Toyota BMWs ever built?
- 1:32:09It depends on which side of the street you live on.
- 1:32:11Now, question, did you have an issue with the wind buffeting?
- 1:32:15Because there was a huge complaint from owners with the windows down.
- 1:32:18It was almost undriveable because of the wind buffeting issue.
- 1:32:21You know, to be honest, no.
- 1:32:24I didn't notice it at all because of the track you are forced
- 1:32:26to run with the windows down.
- 1:32:27Granted, I had my helmet on, but it was not this over exaggerated
- 1:32:33blowing over a Coke bottle type of scenario as everybody described it.
- 1:32:37I actually thought much like other cars with a similar shape
- 1:32:41like a 944 or the Audi TT.
- 1:32:45There was hardly any airflow coming into the vehicle.
- 1:32:48It was kind of hot in there.
- 1:32:49Now, granted it's got enough horsepower.
- 1:32:51You could probably run around the track with the air condition on and not even
- 1:32:53feel it, but I never noticed any of the wind buffeting or anything like that.
- 1:32:57And the brakes seem to work just fine.
- 1:33:00All four days that this car was on track, no issues there, but.
- 1:33:04I would say the only downside to the Supra is that it doesn't
- 1:33:06come with a manual transmission.
- 1:33:09I think that would be my only gripe, especially when you look at the new BRZ,
- 1:33:13when you look at the new Z400 coming from Nissan, they're being offered
- 1:33:17with manuals, it'd be really cool.
- 1:33:19If the super came in a manual, because I don't think it would
- 1:33:22take anything away from it, right?
- 1:33:24Everybody says, Oh, but the double clutch is so much faster, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:33:28Granted, if you're Randy Pope's or Tom Christiansen, or one of those guys
- 1:33:32running around the Nurburgring doing a power lap for us, normal pedestrians.
- 1:33:36On a regular track day, I still think the manual is a lot more fun
- 1:33:40and you have a lot more control.
- 1:33:42You can kind of decide when you want it to shift and all that kind of thing.
- 1:33:45Just to be an old timer, you know, call me a boomer.
- 1:33:48I think it would be really cool if the Supra came in a stick, just
- 1:33:51like all the other two door sports cars that are coming out right now.
- 1:33:54And if any of our listeners have a new Supra, please let me know
- 1:33:58and reach out because I would love to see if I Fit in one
- 1:34:01again, if you haven't driven one, I highly recommend it.
- 1:34:03And for the money, I'd say it's a good compromise compared to some of
- 1:34:07the other stuff that's out there.
- 1:34:08Now, is it going to be as good price wise as the 400 Z?
- 1:34:11No, if the 400 Z comes in where they're saying it's going to come in, that's
- 1:34:15going to be the hot ticket next year when it's officially slated to come out.
- 1:34:20But moving on
- 1:34:21rich people, doing rich people, things
- 1:34:23you didn't say that.
- 1:34:23Right.
- 1:34:23As rich people doing rich people, things.
- 1:34:26New Enrich people, fangs.
- 1:34:27I mean, I think we can just read this headline and then move on.
- 1:34:31Now there's a license, three quarter size Ferrari, two 50 Testa Rosa for fancy kids.
- 1:34:37How much does this thing sell for?
- 1:34:38That's what we wanna know.
- 1:34:39It's up there with the Bugatti Baby two.
- 1:34:41It's up there with that Aston Martin James Bond thing.
- 1:34:44What are we talking about price wise?
- 1:34:46I'm just curious.
- 1:34:46We are talking about for a whopping 37 miles an hour.
- 1:34:51It is so expensive they don't list the price in the article.
- 1:34:54It's a Ferrari, of course.
- 1:34:56You only pay for the best.
- 1:34:57Well, since we're talking about ways to blow your money, two things
- 1:35:00came across my desk this month.
- 1:35:02I found some really cool logo merch, officially licensed products at
- 1:35:10paddockcollectionstore.
- 1:35:10com.
- 1:35:11So if you're looking for stuff from F1 teams, Brumos Porsche, IMSA
- 1:35:16related stuff, pretty much different facets of the motorsport world,
- 1:35:20check out paddockcollectionstore.
- 1:35:23com for some actually great sales, reasonably priced,
- 1:35:26officially licensed merchandise.
- 1:35:28And on top of that, I saw an ad on Instagram for something called The
- 1:35:32block zone, which is the coolest custom Lego sets I have ever seen.
- 1:35:37So there's a group in the UK that puts together and sells sports
- 1:35:42cars, race cars, et cetera, for you to buy, you know, they're not Lego
- 1:35:46sets, they are the block zone sets.
- 1:35:49Although they are comprised of Legos, you can order these reasonably priced.
- 1:35:53What's funny is if you want to search for certain brands like Porsche or
- 1:35:57Lamborghini or Ferrari, you have to use kind of creative ways to look them up.
- 1:36:01Like the old bull is what they call the Countach and
- 1:36:05the prancing horse is Ferrari.
- 1:36:08Could you learn their nomenclature?
- 1:36:09Lare pretty quickly, and there's some very cool sets out there.
- 1:36:12I highly recommend the Porsche nine 17 kit came in right around 150 pounds
- 1:36:18or so, which you know, can be kind of expensive, but it's a 2000 piece
- 1:36:22set and it looks really, really good.
- 1:36:25So.
- 1:36:26Check that out.
- 1:36:26We'll post a link for it in the show notes and maybe think about that as
- 1:36:29a Christmas gift for your petrolhead this winter and stay tuned for our
- 1:36:34holiday shopping guide later this year when we'll talk more about that.
- 1:36:37August was also the month for Car Week.
- 1:36:41Traditionally earlier in the year, but the Monterey Historics were back!
- 1:36:45You know, first time since COVID, they had some keeping it weird cars in the
- 1:36:50collections out there at Monterey.
- 1:36:52And one of our members, Ryan Compton has a huge assortment of pictures that he
- 1:36:55took while he was out there in person.
- 1:36:57But there were a few cars of note, one, especially I targeted for Tanya.
- 1:37:01The Bugatti.
- 1:37:02What's it called?
- 1:37:03The Bugatti Bebe.
- 1:37:04The Bebe.
- 1:37:05Is that the baby?
- 1:37:07Zero.
- 1:37:08The original.
- 1:37:09Is it the original baby?
- 1:37:11The bebe?
- 1:37:11I think it is.
- 1:37:12So there's some really interesting cars on this list of seven oddballs that were
- 1:37:17at the Monterey Historics this year.
- 1:37:18I think the one that really got my attention was the BMW, which
- 1:37:23is the only BMW I've seen without the signature kidney grill.
- 1:37:28It looks like, what's it called?
- 1:37:29A
- 1:37:29Studebaker.
- 1:37:30Japanese
- 1:37:31car.
- 1:37:31The Cosmo.
- 1:37:32It looks like the Cosmo.
- 1:37:33Yeah.
- 1:37:33I like the Glockenspiel.
- 1:37:35I mean, I mean the Glockler.
- 1:37:37So before we wrap up our, we would be remiss with our
- 1:37:41traditional Florida Man stories.
- 1:37:42I wanted to touch on a couple of quick things that you can check out today
- 1:37:46on your local streaming services.
- 1:37:48Most of us know that the Grand Tour released their newest episode
- 1:37:52Lockdown during the month of August.
- 1:37:55And so I got a chance to review it.
- 1:37:57I don't know if you guys did, or if our listeners did.
- 1:37:59I would be curious to see your thoughts.
- 1:38:01I walked away from it going.
- 1:38:03It was better than the last one, but it's the same old formula.
- 1:38:07I'm okay with that.
- 1:38:08I enjoy seeing Clarkson Hammond and May doing what they do best.
- 1:38:12I found it rather delightful.
- 1:38:14The cars that they chose and some of the way the scenes played out.
- 1:38:18But it was kind of more of the same.
- 1:38:20I watched it.
- 1:38:21I was bored about halfway through because I was like, Oh,
- 1:38:24it's another top gear episode.
- 1:38:27I didn't like the car choices or the premise or whatever.
- 1:38:29It just, it wasn't for me.
- 1:38:31I guess the Buick Rivera was pretty cool.
- 1:38:34I think it was pretty slick.
- 1:38:36I feel bad that he kind of chopped that thing up.
- 1:38:38I think he ruined a perfectly good car.
- 1:38:41I would have cared less if they had done that to the Lincoln or
- 1:38:43the Cadillac, although lowering the Cadillac was kind of funny.
- 1:38:46I mean, what a turd.
- 1:38:47There's been some other mockumentaries that have come out.
- 1:38:49There's a new John DeLorean one that has come out.
- 1:38:51The Lady and the Dale is finally available on Hulu.
- 1:38:54You have to pay for it on, you know, Hulu's premium service.
- 1:38:56And then, you know, we were teased with Rust Valley Restorers, their latest
- 1:39:01season, but I can't find it anywhere.
- 1:39:03It's supposed to be on Amazon Prime.
- 1:39:04I don't know if that's like Prime Canada.
- 1:39:06And eventually make it to the U S syndication there or whatever.
- 1:39:09Car masters season three released earlier this month.
- 1:39:13And I did a review on it, which is available on our website.
- 1:39:15You can read all about it.
- 1:39:16I don't know if you guys watch that.
- 1:39:18It really, to me feels like season two part two, because it picks up exactly
- 1:39:23where car masters season two ended, but no
- 1:39:26spoilers.
- 1:39:27I'm watching it right now.
- 1:39:29It is kind of off the rails.
- 1:39:32I posted on garage ride a couple of pictures from the series for
- 1:39:36folks that hadn't seen it yet.
- 1:39:37I wanted to get their gut reaction.
- 1:39:39The response was, is that what they're building now?
- 1:39:42If you haven't seen car master season three, I recommend it.
- 1:39:45You know, I sat down and watched it with my wife.
- 1:39:47She enjoys the show because she enjoys the cast of characters.
- 1:39:50She had a lot of really Insightful feedback, which I incorporated into the
- 1:39:54article, not all of it, because some of it was a little more colorful than
- 1:39:57I was willing to put in the article.
- 1:39:59Would you like to know my pet peeve?
- 1:40:00Sure.
- 1:40:01And I'd have to go back and look at the other two seasons, but I think there was a
- 1:40:05change and I'm terrible with their names.
- 1:40:07I don't remember what their names are other than caveman.
- 1:40:10The female Constance, Constance.
- 1:40:12There you go.
- 1:40:13The only female that's on the show.
- 1:40:14And I don't remember exactly season one, season two, but I feel like season
- 1:40:18three is different in that this chick has got freaking manicured fake nails
- 1:40:23and she's working on a car and her hands are always constantly pristine looking.
- 1:40:28And I'm like, please step off.
- 1:40:31This is so fake, which is terrible because I actually think her credentials
- 1:40:35that they explained from like season one or whatever, she actually knows.
- 1:40:39What the hell is she's doing and actually knows how to work on
- 1:40:42engines and things like that.
- 1:40:43So it's like, why do we have to freaking make her fashion model?
- 1:40:48And I guess the pretty eye candy to generate, you know, more viewership
- 1:40:52from the male audience or, you know, whatever audience she knows what she's
- 1:40:55doing with cars, let her be herself.
- 1:40:57Maybe she works on her cars and somehow it doesn't get greased on her hands.
- 1:41:01I need to learn her trick then.
- 1:41:02I've never seen
- 1:41:03anybody on the show where a pair of gloves.
- 1:41:05So, you know, whatever now granted, they are dealing with a lot of new parts
- 1:41:10and new parts are not dirty either way.
- 1:41:12There's some grease involved.
- 1:41:13There's some grime involved.
- 1:41:14I've worked in new parts and you still get, I've managed to get, but I
- 1:41:17break a nail when I don't even have nails.
- 1:41:20So I can't even imagine.
- 1:41:21working on cars and things like that with fake nails on.
- 1:41:25I
- 1:41:25agree.
- 1:41:26And I've gone back and forth on this.
- 1:41:27And Jess and I talked about as well, honestly thought in season three,
- 1:41:31despite the Lee press on nails that she's got going on, that she actually
- 1:41:34had more credibility this season because she was given more screen time.
- 1:41:38Yeah.
- 1:41:38She speaks educatedly when she speaks about the stuff that she's working on
- 1:41:42when they partnered her with cave man.
- 1:41:44Yeah.
- 1:41:45And with Tony to work on the two special builds, they did the
- 1:41:48fire bike and the school bus.
- 1:41:50I was like, wow.
- 1:41:51I mean, she's on point in the previous two seasons.
- 1:41:53I'm with you.
- 1:41:54I felt like Constance was a bunch of eye candy.
- 1:41:56They were just there to spike the ratings to keep people
- 1:41:59interested in the show their work.
- 1:42:01Stands for itself.
- 1:42:02They don't need the eye candy.
- 1:42:03So to your point, if she's going to get dirty, let her get dirty,
- 1:42:06let her do what she's going to do.
- 1:42:07I go back and forth on this all the time.
- 1:42:09You know what I mean?
- 1:42:10But I do like the cast unlike some shows like West coast custom.
- 1:42:14And even as much as I like Ross Valley restorers, I can't.
- 1:42:17Get into a show where people are constantly at each other's throats,
- 1:42:21it takes a lot to put up with that, but this show they seem to gel.
- 1:42:25They seem to get along, which is good because
- 1:42:27it's a very good show.
- 1:42:28Like, don't let that comment deter anyone from watching it.
- 1:42:32It's very entertaining.
- 1:42:33They're wildly talented people, all four of them and what they do.
- 1:42:36I tried watching the first episode of the first season.
- 1:42:39I couldn't get behind the whole trade up to we're going to do this.
- 1:42:43To trade to this guy to get this car to ultimately trade
- 1:42:46up to this guy to get this car.
- 1:42:48They lost me with the trade.
- 1:42:49It actually works.
- 1:42:51Unlike other shows, it keeps it so unique.
- 1:42:54Mark towel has done a really good job of not copying the counting cars formula.
- 1:43:00And that was very apparent in this season specifically where Sean, the
- 1:43:05guy that does the wheel in and deal in was trying to bring in these high
- 1:43:08profile customers and these high profile builds where they're just doing like
- 1:43:11parts hanging and stuff like that.
- 1:43:13And I could tell his body language and his, the way he dug his heels in, he
- 1:43:18was like, I don't want to be that show.
- 1:43:20And I kind of knew where he was going with that because if you watch counting cars,
- 1:43:24it's the same thing over and over again.
- 1:43:26And a lot of people love to copy that formula and it's worked.
- 1:43:29It's been good for Danny Coker and his team whatnot, but this show is unique
- 1:43:34in the sense that they are doing this whole bargaining and bartering and
- 1:43:37upgrading and trading and whatnot.
- 1:43:39And that's, what keeps it interesting.
- 1:43:41Even though I sometimes take issue with the way Sean does his business deals.
- 1:43:47Even Jess was like, gotta take a shower after this.
- 1:43:51Cause it's kind of slimy.
- 1:43:52It just, it works like their team works.
- 1:43:55The whole premise works.
- 1:43:56And I do enjoy the show.
- 1:43:57And I'm, I'm very serious when I say that I want to see it come back.
- 1:44:01And it is on my top 10.
- 1:44:03shows amongst Goblin Works, Rust Valley Restorers, these guys and others.
- 1:44:07I do want to see them come back and I want to see them succeed.
- 1:44:10I would like to see him branch out of the Gothic Batman stuff that he's
- 1:44:15been doing and do more like what was in season one with the Futura and
- 1:44:19even the Exner from season two, like those kinds of builds where it's
- 1:44:23really over the top, but authentic.
- 1:44:26resonates more with me as a viewer than some of this kind of
- 1:44:29crazy brushed aluminum, you know, gothic skeletons and spider webs.
- 1:44:33I know spider webs are his thing.
- 1:44:34He even brings it up in the show.
- 1:44:35He's like, I take flack for it all the time.
- 1:44:38You know, Hey, let's see what season four brings us.
- 1:44:40Right.
- 1:44:40And let's hope that they survived.
- 1:44:42The COVID because that's where season three ends is right on the beginning
- 1:44:45of all the lockdowns and shutdowns.
- 1:44:47I did visit their website.
- 1:44:48They are still around.
- 1:44:49They're selling merch.
- 1:44:50There's pictures of some other builds on there where they've been using
- 1:44:53some C fives and C sixes instead of the classic C four, which I gripe
- 1:44:56about in this particular season.
- 1:44:58So again, Let's see what happens in season four
- 1:45:00in order to be a well informed podcast host, I'm going to go
- 1:45:05through and watch the show so I can have an informed opinion next time,
- 1:45:08probably right.
- 1:45:09Is when I watch drive to survive.
- 1:45:11So
- 1:45:12you watch drive to survive and get up to date before the next drive
- 1:45:16through and I'll watch car masters.
- 1:45:18I have watched
- 1:45:18both.
- 1:45:19I am currently watching season three of the car masters.
- 1:45:22And
- 1:45:22you can
- 1:45:23tell me if my review is wrong.
- 1:45:24Just leave a comment on the website.
- 1:45:26What did you think of drive to survive?
- 1:45:28I thought it was very good.
- 1:45:29I enjoyed it.
- 1:45:30I think it's gotten better since the first season.
- 1:45:32It has, but they added Ferrari too.
- 1:45:35Cause Ferrari wasn't in the first season.
- 1:45:36The first season was like.
- 1:45:38I don't even remember now, but it was very focused on only like two or three teams.
- 1:45:41And then every season it's expanded.
- 1:45:44And the last season, actually, you got to touch on, like, everybody
- 1:45:47got the opportunity to have a voice or, you know, be covered.
- 1:45:51So
- 1:45:52yeah.
- 1:45:53And then the drama that they create for each of the episodes is
- 1:45:56actually really well put together.
- 1:45:57And some of it's stuff that I didn't even realize was
- 1:45:59happening throughout the season.
- 1:46:01It's not overly like soap opera ish or dramatic either.
- 1:46:04So it's not like you just.
- 1:46:05feel like, Oh, this is stupid reality TV.
- 1:46:08And what I've actually heard from some folks, it's doing a positive
- 1:46:12thing for American viewers to formula one, who never were ever interested.
- 1:46:18I've heard people that really, they're like, I watch formula one now.
- 1:46:21Cause I watched drive to survive.
- 1:46:22Like, this is so cool.
- 1:46:23Like I'm into formula one now.
- 1:46:25So that's a good thing.
- 1:46:27And we're going to talk about, I think later in the motor sports
- 1:46:29thing, how there's possibly.
- 1:46:31Another American team that could be coming to Formula One.
- 1:46:35Spoiler alert!
- 1:46:36Spoiler alert!
- 1:46:37We'll talk about that in a little bit.
- 1:46:39So, I mean, if the show can bring more people into this sport that is pretty
- 1:46:44big everywhere else in the world, then I think, I mean, it's doing something
- 1:46:48what we would consider positive.
- 1:46:50I'm just bringing more people into the
- 1:46:51motorsports world.
- 1:46:52The only downside is if you get new viewers into Formula 1 and they see
- 1:46:58the same people winning all the time and the same BS and the same drama
- 1:47:01and all the things we've talked about, I hate to say Hamilton's got to go.
- 1:47:05But that's fine because Hamilton, the reality is.
- 1:47:07He's waning, how many more years is he really going to keep going?
- 1:47:11So I don't think had drive to survive came out seven years ago and now
- 1:47:15everyone got into it and they're like, Oh, this dude's still winning again.
- 1:47:19It's a different story, but
- 1:47:20don't get me wrong.
- 1:47:21I have no complaints against Lewis Hamilton.
- 1:47:23Extremely talented driver.
- 1:47:24I just want to see him behind the wheel of something else.
- 1:47:27I don't want to see him behind the wheel of another formula car.
- 1:47:29That would be a great wish.
- 1:47:30And we all know that's the epic challenge.
- 1:47:32Put them behind, you know, what was the force India car or something, which is
- 1:47:35actually his old car anyway, but you know, I'd love to see him in a prototype.
- 1:47:39Do you like what Alonzo did?
- 1:47:40Go to IndyCar, go do like Juan Pablo Montoya, go to NASCAR, get, you know, get
- 1:47:44into a prototype at Le Mans, whatever.
- 1:47:46I mean, just do something different.
- 1:47:48To your point about the Force India car or the Racing Point car being
- 1:47:53Lewis Hamilton's old car, there's actually an entire episode in Drive
- 1:47:56to Survive about that very topic.
- 1:47:58I don't know that I need 45 minutes of my life used up to explain that.
- 1:48:02You
- 1:48:03do.
- 1:48:03You really do.
- 1:48:04It's very interesting.
- 1:48:05Uh huh.
- 1:48:05Next week on Mujeres Engañadas.
- 1:48:09Telenovela of Telemundo.
- 1:48:12Let's move on.
- 1:48:13How about Florida man stories?
- 1:48:15So we got a couple and we're going to kind of do maybe a reverse order this time.
- 1:48:18I'm going to start super serious and then we're going to end it on a high note.
- 1:48:22Oh man.
- 1:48:23You mean a low note?
- 1:48:24Oh, a high note.
- 1:48:27The first one is, uh, is really not funny at all.
- 1:48:29It's very quite serious.
- 1:48:31I hope the gentleman recovers, but I want to use it as a public service
- 1:48:35announcement for people who think that their neighborhood is, you know, The
- 1:48:39Indianapolis 500 straight away, because I would like to inform you that it
- 1:48:43is not, nor is anyone's neighborhood.
- 1:48:45So please drive accordingly.
- 1:48:47So there's a gentleman in Detroit who apparently brought up with the county,
- 1:48:52the city, whatever, that many, many people are speeding down the neighborhood street.
- 1:48:57Please put in speed bumps, please put in speed bumps.
- 1:49:00And I'm not a fan of speed bumps.
- 1:49:02Okay.
- 1:49:02By any stretch of the means, but he felt so strongly that
- 1:49:05he kept petitioning for this.
- 1:49:06They kept rejecting him.
- 1:49:08No, who knows?
- 1:49:08I mean, like Detroit can afford to put a speed bump in, right?
- 1:49:11I'm surprised the road is so smooth that someone can be
- 1:49:14speeding down it, but that aside.
- 1:49:16So unfortunately, and this was like caught on, I guess, surveillance video,
- 1:49:20the guy that had been petitioning for so long that People were speeding down
- 1:49:24his road, was going to turn into his driveway, make a left hand turn, and
- 1:49:27people started victim blaming immediately that, oh, his turn signal wasn't on.
- 1:49:31Well, okay, it's a neighborhood road.
- 1:49:33As he's turning in, he gets t boned by a guy in a pickup truck,
- 1:49:36basically doing twice whatever the speed limit in his neighborhood.
- 1:49:39I mean, it shoots him down two houses.
- 1:49:42The guy brain damage, all this other stuff.
- 1:49:45I mean, he got T boned by a freaking pickup truck and he was driving what
- 1:49:47looks to be possibly a 1991 Accord EX.
- 1:49:50No, no lie.
- 1:49:52Which
- 1:49:52where I know where he can get a brand new one.
- 1:49:54Versus like a modern day pickup truck.
- 1:49:57So, you know, He took one hell of a hit at whatever the speed was to get T Bone.
- 1:50:02So this poor man is probably fighting to survive right now.
- 1:50:05So please don't be an ass and drive respectively.
- 1:50:08There's no need to speed through the neighborhood.
- 1:50:10In a neighborhood, you should always assume that there's
- 1:50:12pets and kids and whatnot.
- 1:50:14Well, the best
- 1:50:15part is he's turning left into his driveway.
- 1:50:17And he gets T boned the truck going to the left.
- 1:50:21Why are you even driving that way?
- 1:50:23Yeah, that doesn't make sense.
- 1:50:24That being said, the same is true of the paddock.
- 1:50:26We sometimes forget, even at the racetrack, that paddock speed is as fast
- 1:50:29as you'd like to get run over by a car.
- 1:50:31I mean, I say that all the time during group meetings and
- 1:50:34briefings and stuff like that.
- 1:50:35So it's something to just keep in mind.
- 1:50:36There's no reason to be doing 60 mile an hour in a 20 mile an hour zone.
- 1:50:40But moving on to more idiots.
- 1:50:42Because we've kind of heard these stories already.
- 1:50:45I don't know what this new hotness is, but I'm going to let the title
- 1:50:48speak to itself and then move on.
- 1:50:50Some assholes in Camaro's stop traffic to do burnouts on a New Jersey turnpike.
- 1:50:55Wait, wait, that's the actual title of the article.
- 1:50:57That's
- 1:50:58the title of the article.
- 1:50:59Jalopnik is amazing.
- 1:51:02Nailed it on the head.
- 1:51:03Jalopnik.
- 1:51:04Well done.
- 1:51:05You captured it.
- 1:51:06I.
- 1:51:06Don't need to read the rest of the article.
- 1:51:10So also, public service announcement, don't be these people.
- 1:51:13Completely unnecessary.
- 1:51:14Go to your local skid pad at your local racetrack and do your donuts.
- 1:51:18For the gram!
- 1:51:19For the gram!
- 1:51:21For the moron.
- 1:51:22But For TikTok.
- 1:51:23TikTok
- 1:51:23these days.
- 1:51:24For TikTok.
- 1:51:25Now, to end it on a high note, have you watched the link?
- 1:51:27Of this YouTube video.
- 1:51:29I have seen this.
- 1:51:30Mad props to that guy.
- 1:51:34In his pull start, power wheels, whatever it was, peeling out of the local diner.
- 1:51:41He peeled out of that parking lot onto the road.
- 1:51:44That thing is fast.
- 1:51:46I think the best part of that video is the lady.
- 1:51:49And she's like, no, he didn't.
- 1:51:51And he's just like, burned down, like takes off.
- 1:51:53I was like, that's awesome.
- 1:51:55My favorite part is the Jolly Roger flag behind them.
- 1:51:57Yeah.
- 1:51:58It's street legal, right?
- 1:52:00Yeah, definitely Florida's Waffle House.
- 1:52:02It's downstate.
- 1:52:03All right.
- 1:52:04Well, it's time for us to go behind the wall, the pit wall
- 1:52:07and talk about motor sports news.
- 1:52:09We talked a little bit already about the F1 season, drive to survive, et cetera.
- 1:52:12And there is.
- 1:52:14a constant revolving door of schedule changes this year, just
- 1:52:18like last year for Formula One.
- 1:52:20So I'm going to kind of summarize two of them.
- 1:52:23Miami is on the docket for May of 2022.
- 1:52:26So next year, the Formula One Grand Prix of America is in Florida.
- 1:52:30So very curious to see how that turns out.
- 1:52:32And rumors indicate that Indianapolis.
- 1:52:36May return as a replacement for the canceled Japanese Grand Prix.
- 1:52:42Now we ran six to seven American Grand Prix's at Indianapolis, especially
- 1:52:48the one where, you know, three teams ran and there were only six cars on
- 1:52:50track because they were boycotting the tires and that whole situation.
- 1:52:54You know, there was a lot of interesting years at Indy.
- 1:52:57I went to a bunch of them myself along with some of our other members
- 1:53:00in GTM, but it's cool to see Indy coming back on the calendar, even if
- 1:53:04it is Just as a substitute teacher.
- 1:53:06But I think there's even bigger news that Tanya alluded to coming to Formula
- 1:53:10One in the next couple of years.
- 1:53:12Michael Andretti has announced that he's trying to throw his hat into
- 1:53:16the Formula One ring and bring a U.
- 1:53:18S.
- 1:53:18team into the mix.
- 1:53:20I'm glad he didn't say he was coming back to Formula One, because if anybody
- 1:53:24grew up watching Michael Andretti in Formula One, it was not so good.
- 1:53:28The Andretti name.
- 1:53:30Carries a lot of weight.
- 1:53:31His dad, Mario, Formula One champion, right?
- 1:53:34He's actually a triple crown winner.
- 1:53:36Le Mans, Indianapolis, and F1.
- 1:53:40It's a long legacy there.
- 1:53:41The Andretti family, you know, kind of kicking ass and taking names.
- 1:53:43I would really like to see this happen because Andretti making a play for
- 1:53:46Formula One will be the first of its kind.
- 1:53:48Fully American team, American cars, American owned, American drivers in
- 1:53:53Formula One, I think almost ever.
- 1:53:56So that'll be a first.
- 1:53:57I mean, granted there's Haas as an American owned team, but
- 1:54:00employees, you know, foreign drivers.
- 1:54:02So this would be really, really cool to see this, this play out.
- 1:54:05Meanwhile, in the world of IMSA, BMW is making a play, not just
- 1:54:11in LMBH, but in GT3, the BMW M4.
- 1:54:16is set to race in the Super GT series next year.
- 1:54:19On top of that, a Portland teen is set to become the
- 1:54:22youngest driver in Le Mans ever.
- 1:54:26He will be 15 years old when he takes the green flag.
- 1:54:31at Le Mans in 2022.
- 1:54:33Wrap your head around that.
- 1:54:35Not sure how that plays out, how that works, but cool to see a young
- 1:54:39American driver on such a big stage.
- 1:54:42You know, the biggest stage, the Le Mans 24 hours.
- 1:54:45We now have yet another bid!
- 1:54:47Lamborghini is not alone!
- 1:54:49In making their bid this month to go to the 2023 running of LeMans,
- 1:54:53which Lamborghini running LeMans.
- 1:54:55Isn't that really Audi?
- 1:54:56I wanted to mention that earlier, but Hey, you know, it's their way in the door.
- 1:55:01But Cadillac has also confirmed that they are making a bid to go to LeMans too.
- 1:55:06So it's going to be an action packed hundredth anniversary of LeMans.
- 1:55:10I can't wait to see it in person going to be absolutely amazing.
- 1:55:13But what we need to do is take a moment and talk about.
- 1:55:16This year's 89th running of Le Mans, the 98th anniversary of
- 1:55:22the first Le Mans here in 2021.
- 1:55:24Brad, what'd you think?
- 1:55:25I know you watched the race.
- 1:55:26We didn't do our viewing party this year like we always do.
- 1:55:29I stayed up as long as I could and I think I got the most sleep of
- 1:55:33any Le Mans race I've ever watched.
- 1:55:35I actually did not watch the race.
- 1:55:37Out of the 24 hours I was able to watch maybe about a half hour.
- 1:55:42What?
- 1:55:43But I've got other pressing life Events going on right now.
- 1:55:47So I did not get to
- 1:55:48tell
- 1:55:51that to my eight month pregnant wife.
- 1:55:55I did see the new hyper car class.
- 1:55:57Uh, or at least I guess the early makings of the new hyper car class.
- 1:56:01Oh, you mean the
- 1:56:02LMP2 cars with slightly boosted motors?
- 1:56:04Yeah.
- 1:56:05I thought some of them actually looked really cool though.
- 1:56:07I will say this, the Glickenhaus car, which was the big to do, the announcers
- 1:56:12in the middle of the night, and because I was up late watching it, and
- 1:56:14like I said, I did watch most of it.
- 1:56:16They mentioned that the Glickenhaus team, which is, you know, Scudiera,
- 1:56:20Glickenhaus, this whole nonsense name that they came up with.
- 1:56:24Is supposedly the prototype for the Peugeot nine X eight that we talked
- 1:56:30about last month, kind of cool to see it.
- 1:56:32So they're using it as a test mule, this weird hyper car class that they
- 1:56:36have, you know, it's supposed to be a mixture of like DPI and like all
- 1:56:39the LMP and all this kind of thing.
- 1:56:41Right now, the cars that were running in there outside of the Glickenhaus car
- 1:56:45were basically boosted LMP two cars.
- 1:56:49I was really excited for team Alpine Alpine, depending on You know, which
- 1:56:54accent you use the Matt Moots car, basically under the auspices of, Hey,
- 1:56:59it's a Renault and it's a Renault power plant, everything on Nissan, whatever,
- 1:57:04you know, whatever effort they were calling it under, but that Alpine,
- 1:57:08it had a chance of beating Toyota,
- 1:57:12if
- 1:57:12the circumstances.
- 1:57:14For Toyota went sideways on them, which is the same thing we say every year.
- 1:57:18If it falls apart on Toyota, they're going to lose and an LMP
- 1:57:21two car is going to win, whatever.
- 1:57:23But that Alpine or Alpine did a really great job in terms
- 1:57:27of its qualifying lap times.
- 1:57:28It was very much on pace with the Toyota hybrid.
- 1:57:32So I was very excited to see that.
- 1:57:34That means there is potential next year, depending on how things play out in this
- 1:57:38new LMDH class and hypercar class, what the competition is going to be like.
- 1:57:42What I haven't heard yet though, is Toyota's bid for 2023.
- 1:57:47So I'm wondering if they're going to bow out gracefully, maybe
- 1:57:50next year or even unspoken this year, like maybe this was it.
- 1:57:54And next year as Porsche and other folks are got to be testing.
- 1:57:58I mean, they're not going to come to the big stage without testing something.
- 1:58:01I'm really curious to see how 22 plays out, but as just like last year's
- 1:58:05Le Mans kind of took me by surprise because I forgot it was in August,
- 1:58:09but also it was really unexciting and Corvette suffered a bunch of problems.
- 1:58:15The Porsches were still privateer cars.
- 1:58:17Ferrari pretty much swept the GT class.
- 1:58:20Good for them.
- 1:58:21The same folks that are doing the AF Corsa cars are also building the Ferrari LMDH
- 1:58:27cars that are going to come out in 2023.
- 1:58:29to see more of a presence from Corsa as well.
- 1:58:33I found it oddly disconcerting that I was really excited about the
- 1:58:37LMD2 class more than anything else.
- 1:58:39So that speaks volumes as to this race.
- 1:58:41And I'm sure there's people that are going to be out there.
- 1:58:43Oh my God, imagine it was.
- 1:58:44It was boring.
- 1:58:45All right.
- 1:58:46I'm going to just flat out say it.
- 1:58:47It was boring.
- 1:58:48And I can't wait for 2023 when we actually get some brands back on the table
- 1:58:52competing for a proper championship and not a bunch of let's stick it in there so
- 1:58:57that Toyota isn't running by themselves.
- 1:58:59Well, two things, one Toyota's next entry is going to be the BMW
- 1:59:03Supra and two, the Glickenhaus is the car that I was looking at.
- 1:59:07It was like, damn, that car looks really good.
- 1:59:09It's a really awesome looking race car.
- 1:59:11It reminds me of the old days of like.
- 1:59:13Group c imsa Can-Am with like the nine 60 twos.
- 1:59:17It kind of has that look to it.
- 1:59:18It's like an old school prototype car, which again, I'm
- 1:59:22like, Mercedes, hello Salberg.
- 1:59:25Let's do something here.
- 1:59:26You know, I'd also select to see Mazda come back.
- 1:59:28I mean it granted their whole sky, active diesel, whatever the heck that
- 1:59:33DPI thing was, they were running an imsa.
- 1:59:35wasn't so great.
- 1:59:36I mean, there's an opportunity for Acura here, Honda McLaren, whatever.
- 1:59:39I mean, there's a bunch of other names that could still come to
- 1:59:42the table in the next two years.
- 1:59:45So I'm really, again, excited for 2023, but 2021, a little bit of a letdown.
- 1:59:49I'm just glad that Le Mans wasn't canceled.
- 1:59:52That's pretty much it.
- 1:59:53I would say the grandstands weren't full.
- 1:59:55There were definitely spectators there.
- 1:59:58And as typical of any Lamont's race, it was more exciting at
- 2:00:01night, which forces you to stay up.
- 2:00:02The, the announcer shut up and you can actually watch the race.
- 2:00:05It's more exciting at night than it is during the daytime
- 2:00:08hours.
- 2:00:08And do we want to talk on the changes in the schedule and when the next races are?
- 2:00:13I think the IMSA Petit Le Mans has changed and the VAR race has changed as well.
- 2:00:19I think they're both within like a couple, like a, like a month of each other.
- 2:00:23I think one's in October, one's in November.
- 2:00:25Because Lamont's.
- 2:00:26Slid from typical father's day weekend to this August date right now, which
- 2:00:31hopefully it'll slide back to the middle of summer, the VIR race and the petite
- 2:00:37Lamont has slid way into the fall.
- 2:00:39Again, I'm going to be watching those.
- 2:00:40I will say that the WEC schedule has been severely disrupted
- 2:00:45because of Lamont's moving.
- 2:00:47So the final two WEC races are going to be held at Bahrain, a six and eight
- 2:00:52hour race in September and October.
- 2:00:54I think it was, I looked and for What I understand, none of those
- 2:00:58folks really like running at Bahrain.
- 2:01:00They just don't like the track.
- 2:01:01They don't like the layout.
- 2:01:02So to have two races less than a month apart, it's kind of a
- 2:01:06womp womp for the WC season.
- 2:01:08If you're into watching that particular series, which is
- 2:01:11available on like motorsport.
- 2:01:13tv and, you know, places like that, but I think we need to move on to.
- 2:01:17F.
- 2:01:17I.
- 2:01:17M.
- 2:01:18The Motorcycle Racing Series.
- 2:01:20What do we got,
- 2:01:21Tanya?
- 2:01:21Talked about him before.
- 2:01:23Likely GOAT Valentino Rossi has finally announced that he will
- 2:01:27retire from motorcycle racing at the end of this season.
- 2:01:31That is a shame.
- 2:01:33It's probably inevitable.
- 2:01:34I mean, he's getting up on years.
- 2:01:35Motorcycle racing is definitely its own beast.
- 2:01:39You need to be a young man.
- 2:01:41I think you got to have those reaction times and whatnot.
- 2:01:45And you know, the fact that he hasn't really been winning in the last
- 2:01:47couple of years does not detract and how skilled he is because he's still
- 2:01:51wildly skilled, but when you're, I forget how old he is, 40s already,
- 2:01:56like, and you're competing against.
- 2:01:57People aren't even 20.
- 2:01:59It's just not the same, but I mean, kudos for him.
- 2:02:01Congratulations.
- 2:02:02He's still a young man.
- 2:02:03There's, you know, speculation, rumor.
- 2:02:05What's he going to go on to next?
- 2:02:06Could we see him in DTM?
- 2:02:08I already know that he usually competes in a couple of races a year in WRC.
- 2:02:12So could he do more there?
- 2:02:15I don't think this is probably the last we'll hear of him.
- 2:02:17So I've heard
- 2:02:18he's heading to IMSA.
- 2:02:21I'm super excited about that.
- 2:02:23So Valentino Rossi might be on the schedule for IMSA and maybe
- 2:02:27Valentino will be at the 2023 Le Mans.
- 2:02:30What's up?
- 2:02:31So I'm really excited about that.
- 2:02:32Don't know which team he's signing with, but I'm going to be keeping tabs on this.
- 2:02:35I'm sure you will too.
- 2:02:37Big name like that.
- 2:02:38Moving from motorcycles into cars, not necessarily a bad thing.
- 2:02:41Again, I mentioned this about Lewis Hamilton.
- 2:02:42Try something different.
- 2:02:43He's And again, like you said, behind the wheel of a prototype or
- 2:02:47even a GT car, he's still got a lot of years ahead of him because look
- 2:02:51at somebody like Yann Magnussen.
- 2:02:53I mean, I feel like he's the elder statesman of IMSA Le Mans right now.
- 2:02:58The guy is still blindingly fast, feel bad for the wreck that he was
- 2:03:02involved in, you know, the middle of the night, which basically took him
- 2:03:05out of the running in the LMP2 cars.
- 2:03:08But you know, it is what it is.
- 2:03:09You know, we'll look to next year and see Yang Magnuson yet
- 2:03:11again out there on the WEC stage.
- 2:03:14So what else for Valentino?
- 2:03:15Is there a little bit more news?
- 2:03:16I think we have congratulations in order because he is also
- 2:03:20going to be a father to be.
- 2:03:22So he and
- 2:03:23his girlfriend are going to be expecting a little girl apparently.
- 2:03:27So congratulations to them.
- 2:03:29So maybe another Rossi and FIM in the future.
- 2:03:32This time a female.
- 2:03:34Think about that.
- 2:03:34That would be something very exciting.
- 2:03:36Well, that's it for our motorsport news.
- 2:03:38Now we need to jump into our quick little recap of our local news here at GTM HQ.
- 2:03:44And I want to remind everybody and thank everybody again, that came out
- 2:03:48to our charity event at the end of July, beginning of August, uh, our
- 2:03:53summer bash seven in conjunction with auto interest summit point American
- 2:03:58cancer society, we raised over 90, 000.
- 2:04:03200.
- 2:04:03That's 9, 200 on behalf of the American Cancer Society.
- 2:04:07That was our biggest, baddest, best fundraising event yet.
- 2:04:11Can't thank everybody enough that showed up and participated from the
- 2:04:14people that came out and volunteered.
- 2:04:16It worked the event that were part of the car show, our members that were
- 2:04:19there for our anniversary reunion.
- 2:04:21Fantastic event.
- 2:04:22It was a lot of fun.
- 2:04:23It was a long four days after it was said and done.
- 2:04:26And right behind that, We went to Carolina motorsports park and met our
- 2:04:31friends at just track it face to face.
- 2:04:34I will say this about Carolina motorsport park.
- 2:04:37If you haven't driven it yet, go drive it.
- 2:04:39It is a heck of a lot of fun.
- 2:04:42I wasn't sure what to think of it when I was looking at, you know, track maps
- 2:04:45and videos, another one of those types of tracks that doesn't do it justice.
- 2:04:49I unfortunately learned the track as quickly as I could in the rain,
- 2:04:52but that quickly translated to some.
- 2:04:54Awesome dry laps about midday on the first day and throughout the entire weekend.
- 2:04:58So I can't recommend going there enough.
- 2:05:00If you haven't tried it, if it's on your list of tracks to get out to, and
- 2:05:03you've been kind of like, ah, I'm not sure if I want to make the drive, it's
- 2:05:06definitely worth checking out and check it out with our friends at just track it.
- 2:05:09They run a fantastic event, very affordable, well run, very well
- 2:05:13organized, right on point and a big shout out and a thank you to Nabil
- 2:05:17and his team for inviting us down and letting us experience a CMP together.
- 2:05:23Our trackside report brought to you by hpdejunkie.
- 2:05:27com.
- 2:05:27What's coming in the next couple of months, there are still a ton of events.
- 2:05:30I mean, Hooked on Driving's got an event this week at Summit Point, Maine.
- 2:05:34You've got Chin all over the place.
- 2:05:36You got PCA.
- 2:05:37I mean, there are events still booked.
- 2:05:39Day in and day out now through Audi's event in November at VIR.
- 2:05:45So I don't want to list them all.
- 2:05:46I could just recommend going to HPD junkie.
- 2:05:48com and checking it out.
- 2:05:49But a couple of things that fall in line with our trackside report, join us,
- 2:05:53the GTM team for our end of year bash, what we refer to as the animal house.
- 2:05:58Yes, we're going yet again to Watkins Glen that's October 22nd through 24th.
- 2:06:04That's.
- 2:06:05Three days on track with hooked on driving at the famous, maybe infamous Watkins
- 2:06:10Glen full circuit Lake Seneca in New York.
- 2:06:13So if you haven't checked it out before, it's breathtaking.
- 2:06:16It's beautiful.
- 2:06:17It's enormous.
- 2:06:17It's fast.
- 2:06:18It's fun.
- 2:06:19If Watkins Glen is a bucket list track.
- 2:06:21Get it done.
- 2:06:22There's no excuses.
- 2:06:23It's absolutely amazing.
- 2:06:24And it will become one of your favorites by far.
- 2:06:27Talked last year about Oak Ridge and new tracks coming to the Tennessee Valley,
- 2:06:33the Smoky Mountains and things like that.
- 2:06:34Turns out that we know didn't happen.
- 2:06:37It got shut down, but there's a new track.
- 2:06:39Coming to Missouri.
- 2:06:41It's called the Ozarks International Raceway and it was slated to open in
- 2:06:452021 to Tanya's point about other things that are supposed to happen in 2021.
- 2:06:49It's already come and gone.
- 2:06:51So what we're going to do is we're going to pay attention to HPD junkie.
- 2:06:54com and see when Ozark gets added to the roster and who's going there first.
- 2:07:00It's within reach, even from the DMV folks to get out there.
- 2:07:03It's within that 12 to 14 hour window that you can try a new track and the track
- 2:07:09map, the aerial view looks pretty good.
- 2:07:11It looks kind of exciting.
- 2:07:12I'm interested to check it out.
- 2:07:14I can only imagine that out in the mountains, it's going to
- 2:07:16have some elevation changes.
- 2:07:17For next year, as we kind of pre plan our schedule, we're going to be looking
- 2:07:21again to Dave and the HPD junky schedule to figure out when there's going to be
- 2:07:25events at places like Club Motorsport.
- 2:07:27Palmer Motorsports Park, National Corvette, Gingerman,
- 2:07:31and maybe Road America.
- 2:07:33So these are some of the things we're talking about for next year.
- 2:07:36So if you're a hardcore, what we call cannonballer and want to do
- 2:07:39some long distance caravanning and go experience a new track together,
- 2:07:43or go to a track you've been to before with a great group of people.
- 2:07:45We've got you covered.
- 2:07:46Let us know, get involved in our cannonball runs.
- 2:07:48Those are the types of tracks we're looking at.
- 2:07:50So a little sneak peek.
- 2:07:51Usually we reveal this in the fall, but those are the things we're thinking about.
- 2:07:54Drop us a note, let us know which one you're interested in, and we'll try to
- 2:07:58coordinate with you to get it out there.
- 2:07:59And also remember to check out HBD junkie.
- 2:08:01com for who's going to be there.
- 2:08:03Who's going to be hosting events and when you can get on track sooner than later.
- 2:08:07And in case you missed out, check out the other podcast episodes
- 2:08:10that aired earlier this month.

- 2:11:35Oh, we do.
- 2:11:35Yeah, we have to thank our leader, Tanya.
