- 0:02ROYGBIV: Hey everyone, welcome back to 22 Panels. This is the podcast that aims to examine, explore, and elevate the medium of comics. I am Tyler, and across the interwebs…
- 0:14ROYGBIV: from me is Tad.
- 0:17ROYGBIV: just had.
- 0:19ROYGBIV: Phil is sleeping, I think. I think Phil was, like.
- 0:24Tad Eggleston: Bill is not feeling well this morning.
- 0:26ROYGBIV: He's not…
- 0:27Tad Eggleston: Took the morning off.
- 0:29Tad Eggleston: I question his dedication.
- 0:32ROYGBIV: I… every day, that guy, I mean, come on.
- 0:37Tad Eggleston: I mean, you… you took, like, months off, dude, and you're questioning his dedication?
- 0:45ROYGBIV: Oh, I thought we were just talking about him. I didn't realize we were gonna, like, turn this around.
- 0:53Tad Eggleston: I'm the one who never skips an episode, though I did take way too long to get last week's episode up.
- 1:00Tad Eggleston: It didn't go up until, like, Thursday.
- 1:02ROYGBIV: Really?
- 1:03Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 1:03ROYGBIV: I didn't even notice.
- 1:05Tad Eggleston: I'm sorry.
- 1:07Tad Eggleston: I failed. I failed my listeners.
- 1:09ROYGBIV: I've given myself a new name this morning on your screen.
- 1:13Tad Eggleston: Oh yeah, Roy Gbiv.
- 1:14ROYGBIV: Yep. I was gonna separate it and just be, like, Roy, G, and then Bib, but…
- 1:18Tad Eggleston: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:19ROYGBIV: I'm just in a weird mood this morning.
- 1:22Tad Eggleston: Yeah, yeah, I get it. I get it, because, like…
- 1:26Tad Eggleston: April Fool's Day was this week.
- 1:28Tad Eggleston: And we got mad about DC, and a trailer about mad about DC, and both.
- 1:35ROYGBIV: Good.
- 1:36Tad Eggleston: were really, really awesome. So, go watch the trailer, and then go read the comic book.
- 1:41Tad Eggleston: It does.
- 1:42ROYGBIV: Yeah, it was great. When it came out, I grabbed it, and it's been on the top of my pile, and then, as I look at it, I'm like, oh, I'll get to that later, and I grab from underneath it, and… and I have not got to it yet.
- 1:55Tad Eggleston: See, what I… what I really… this is… this is one of the cooler things about it,
- 2:02Tad Eggleston: So, when I… I… somehow, this had flown
- 2:05Tad Eggleston: under my radar. I, I, I don't…
- 2:08Tad Eggleston: I don't know, like… I don't know how this blew under my radar, but… but it did.
- 2:14Tad Eggleston: And… I,
- 2:22Tad Eggleston: I'm trying to figure out what I did with your face. I can… I'm gonna stop the share and reshare. Actually, I don't need to share, because you've got your own thing pulled up.
- 2:31ROYGBIV: Yes.
- 2:32Tad Eggleston: Okay, so anyway, it had flown under my radar, so I forgot to, like, add it to any polos.
- 2:39Tad Eggleston: But I still have…
- 2:41Tad Eggleston: Daredevil on my pull list at Dreamland and Libertyville, because I didn't want to sever my…
- 2:48Tad Eggleston: My… my connections to them.
- 2:51Tad Eggleston: So when I went to grab my Daredevil, I asked Charlie if he… if he had any, and… and officially he didn't, because the other guy in the store was going to be buying the last two copies, but… but the guy in the store is like, oh, no, he can have one.
- 3:07Tad Eggleston: I don't wanna, I don't wanna, like, you know…
- 3:10Tad Eggleston: But I got the Simon Bisley cover, which, I mean, first of all, the Simon Bisley cover's pretty cool, and I have a Bisley story coming up in, Great Responsibilities, so don't let me forget that.
- 3:23Tad Eggleston: But, and I've never seen this before, but I loved it. The variant cover is like…
- 3:36Tad Eggleston: it's like a second cover. Like, when you open the Bisley cover, you get the original Mad Magazine
- 3:44Tad Eggleston: I forget who did that one.
- 3:53Tad Eggleston: The, the, oh… Did the cover of the…
- 4:03Tad Eggleston: You're not even helping me out here, man.
- 4:06ROYGBIV: Sorry, I'm half distracted with, something that just came up on my phone, I'm sorry.
- 4:11Tad Eggleston: Oh, I see, I see.
- 4:13ROYGBIV: I'm sorry.
- 4:13Tad Eggleston: The Dan Pinozian cover. So, so… Yes. So, it's got the Bisley cover, but underneath is the Pinozian cover. Okay. Which… and I'm just seeing now, I'm gonna have to go track down or order if they have it.
- 4:30Tad Eggleston: The Zdarsky cover is amazing.
- 4:33ROYGBIV: Yo.
- 4:38Tad Eggleston: So…
- 4:40ROYGBIV: That's cool.
- 4:41Tad Eggleston: Actually, do you have your order stuff? Can you see if it's sold out?
- 4:46ROYGBIV: Okay. No, I don't have that up right now.
- 4:49Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 4:52ROYGBIV: Sorry, nope.
- 4:54Tad Eggleston: That's okay.
- 4:55ROYGBIV: Okay.
- 4:57Tad Eggleston: Oh, wow, not even a drawing of Jim Lee saying, what, me, hurry? That's our mad guarantee.
- 5:05Tad Eggleston: Featuring zero jokes about Hush 2 being late.
- 5:11Tad Eggleston: Got it.
- 5:12Tad Eggleston: Oh, wow.
- 5:14ROYGBIV: Funny.
- 5:16ROYGBIV: That's funny.
- 5:20Tad Eggleston: Yeah, I don't know how this ran under my radar.
- 5:24Tad Eggleston: Because it's so good.
- 5:28ROYGBIV: It's… it's, something I'm definitely looking forward to this afternoon when I'm bored of my, holiday lunch people, guests, and I will just, like, walk away and pick up a mad magazine and just put it right over my face.
- 5:43ROYGBIV: I do have actual Mad Magazines right here from the last…
- 5:48Tad Eggleston: I love…
- 5:49ROYGBIV: See, here's…
- 5:50Tad Eggleston: I love MAD, and it sounds like they're about to start,
- 5:55Tad Eggleston: Doing stuff with more… more new material.
- 6:00ROYGBIV: Well, that's awesome.
- 6:01Tad Eggleston: Which…
- 6:03ROYGBIV: I'm just gonna be like…
- 6:04Tad Eggleston: It's frustrating that we only had reprint issues going.
- 6:09Tad Eggleston: So, that makes me happy.
- 6:13ROYGBIV: This'll be me at Easter lunch.
- 6:17ROYGBIV: Just… magazine… mad magazine pulled up in front of my face, you know, like, just don't talk to me.
- 6:24Tad Eggleston: That, that, that seems reasonable.
- 6:26ROYGBIV: I… I agree.
- 6:28ROYGBIV: Okay.
- 6:32ROYGBIV: What's that?
- 6:32Tad Eggleston: But then, Ronald Wimberly, and…
- 6:39Tad Eggleston: And of course, I'm, like, writing an email when I need to be looking at Ronald Wimberly and Mike Rock.
- 6:44Tad Eggleston: Wimberly's a cartoonist that, that I love, and we've had on the show. Mike Rock is a, a,
- 6:52Tad Eggleston: animation guy. He did, Rock Brothers Animation is the name of his production company, but they're starting a venture called Wild Signal.
- 7:02ROYGBIV: Okay.
- 7:02Tad Eggleston: That will apparently re…
- 7:05Tad Eggleston: release radical storytelling in a variety of formats. Julian Glander, Tundy, Adabimpy, and Saul Williams are already on…
- 7:16Tad Eggleston: already being announced in the press release, at least. Oh, nice. And their first release is a vinyl limited edition soundtrack of Boys Go to Jupiter.
- 7:25Tad Eggleston: Which is Julie and Glandy's animated synth-pop musical film.
- 7:30ROYGBIV: Do you like Saul Williams' music in general?
- 7:33Tad Eggleston: I do, actually.
- 7:35ROYGBIV: I do, too. It's really good.
- 7:37Tad Eggleston: Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I like Saul Williams, but I love Ronald Wimberly, so, like, I'm… I'm… I'm, like, digging… digging that he's got a new project going.
- 7:46ROYGBIV: Yo.
- 7:46Tad Eggleston: So… I will be… We… watching that, and
- 7:53Tad Eggleston: Then, then, wow, this has been a week.
- 7:59ROYGBIV: Okay, so let's start this off early in the week. We of last week.
- 8:05ROYGBIV: it came out that Christine Noem's husband, Brian, was cross-dressing and distributing photos of himself to somebody
- 8:16ROYGBIV: Who leaked them.
- 8:18Tad Eggleston: Multiple people.
- 8:19ROYGBIV: Yeah, and in the cross-dressing, he was wearing…
- 8:23Tad Eggleston: I think he was doing video calls with, like, paid sex workers?
- 8:28ROYGBIV: Okay.
- 8:29ROYGBIV: So, in the…
- 8:31Tad Eggleston: I took screenshots.
- 8:33ROYGBIV: And in that, he was wearing a suit for large breasts. It was definitely a fetish sight, because this was, like, astronomically out of proportion, the suit he was wearing. And, he, christy, you know, of course.
- 8:49ROYGBIV: freaks out, and she's asking for privacy this week. Well, her family deals with this. There's no way that she didn't know this was going on, though.
- 8:59Tad Eggleston: I mean, there's lots of ways. She was busy boning, Corey Lewandowski on government airplanes that had bedrooms.
- 9:07ROYGBIV: True.
- 9:09ROYGBIV: It's just…
- 9:10ROYGBIV: Yeah, I don't… I have a hard time believing she was caught off guard, because with these people, it's all about projection, projection, projection, right?
- 9:19ROYGBIV: So… It makes sense that she would have known about it, judging for how much she hates
- 9:27ROYGBIV: This kind of lifestyle, you know, that she publicly proclaims that.
- 9:31Tad Eggleston: No, I mean, he didn't have any surgery.
- 9:34ROYGBIV: No, no.
- 9:35Tad Eggleston: Just a fetish.
- 9:37ROYGBIV: Yep, yep. We'll get into…
- 9:38Tad Eggleston: It's not like he became a woman.
- 9:41ROYGBIV: They'll get him some complex.
- 9:42Tad Eggleston: So he's probably a… she's probably actually okay with it. What she's not okay with is that it left their bedroom. It might even be what attracted her to him in the first place.
- 9:54Tad Eggleston: You know… I mean, she's like, I always wanted to marry a man with bigger boobs than me.
- 10:02ROYGBIV: Maybe.
- 10:04ROYGBIV: All I know is that, I… my first reaction was like, oh, good for him. And then my second reaction was, oh my god, this is gonna be hilarious.
- 10:15Tad Eggleston: Yeah, I do, I do have to say that there is a certain level of… Difficulty, because, like.
- 10:25Tad Eggleston: I have zero problem with it. I think it's cool that he expresses himself however the fuck he feels like expressing himself. On the flip side, there is such a level of schadenfreude, because you know that…
- 10:43Tad Eggleston: She, and if not she, at least everybody who thinks she's cool…
- 10:48Tad Eggleston: DOES have a problem with it.
- 10:51ROYGBIV: Yep.
- 10:54ROYGBIV: Yeah, I want to make that distinction. I don't have any problem with what Brian Noem was doing.
- 11:00Tad Eggleston: Well, but it's like, you know, I mean, on one side, like, I'm all for this being private. On the other side, I'm also all for not…
- 11:12Tad Eggleston: Deporting 5-year-olds.
- 11:14ROYGBIV: Yes.
- 11:16ROYGBIV: Yeah.
- 11:18Tad Eggleston: And apparently, it leaked as retaliation. One of the… one of the sex workers that he was doing this with was an immigrant, and she found out who he was.
- 11:31Tad Eggleston: I mean, this totally got out there BECAUSE of Christie's actions.
- 11:36ROYGBIV: Oh, funny.
- 11:41ROYGBIV: And then, the second piece of news that brightened my week,
- 11:46ROYGBIV: horrible cunt witch, Pam Bondi, has been… Let go.
- 11:54Tad Eggleston: Well, I mean, here's… I have two… two… I mean, again, like with Christy, couldn't have happened to a finer woman. Right, right.
- 12:04ROYGBIV: I mean, ugh.
- 12:05Tad Eggleston: But there are 3 things that I want to point out that are…
- 12:10Tad Eggleston: mildly, like, concerning about, like, her being let go. The first is the timing, which is, oh, I totally bombed my Iran speech, how do we change the news cycle?
- 12:24Tad Eggleston: Because it was, it was right after that, like, debacle of a speech where, like…
- 12:31Tad Eggleston: He was supposed to be, like, laying out objections and, and, and…
- 12:36Tad Eggleston: soothing the nation, and that sort of thing, and… and just failed. Miserly.
- 12:42ROYGBIV: Yeah.
- 12:45Tad Eggleston: We've destroyed them. We've totally destroyed them, and they, but we're gonna be there for a while.
- 12:53Tad Eggleston: They're totally on board with peace, we're almost there, and we're having fruitful negotiations, and that's good, because otherwise we're gonna bomb them back into the Stone Age.
- 13:05Tad Eggleston: Yep.
- 13:06ROYGBIV: It was just all over the place. And then,
- 13:11ROYGBIV: I don't know. I'm not sure if it's a political maneuver to get… like, did he think that she wouldn't have to testify against him if he let her go?
- 13:21Tad Eggleston: I mean, he might, but… because he's the…
- 13:23ROYGBIV: She still does. She still does.
- 13:25Tad Eggleston: But then the second thing is,
- 13:29Tad Eggleston: Like, he's essentially firing her for being incompetent at doing illegal things.
- 13:35ROYGBIV: Correct.
- 13:37Tad Eggleston: So… what are the chances that she will be replaced with anybody that, like, is even one iota better?
- 13:45ROYGBIV: Correct.
- 13:46Tad Eggleston: And better, in his eyes, would be being successful at doing illegal things.
- 13:54ROYGBIV: I agree, yeah. She's just not corrupt enough for his taste.
- 13:58Tad Eggleston: So, I mean, it's like, hey, why are you bothering with the courts? Why aren't you just using… and I shouldn't say this out loud, because, you know, the NSA is listening, and somebody will decide they want a promotion. They'll say, hey, this podcaster's got a great idea for you, Donald!
- 14:13Tad Eggleston: You know, why aren't you just using the FBI to disappear people? Why are we bothering with trying to take them to court?
- 14:20ROYGBIV: I agree. I mean, it'll come to that, but…
- 14:24Tad Eggleston: But third, like, and in some ways this feels small, but, like…
- 14:34Tad Eggleston: Who are his first two fires of this new administration?
- 14:38ROYGBIV: The ladies.
- 14:39Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 14:41ROYGBIV: Yeah, I know, I mean, they're… but here's the thing, though, they were justifiably horrible people, so…
- 14:46Tad Eggleston: They were, but they're no more horrible than Pete Hegseth.
- 14:50ROYGBIV: Correct. I agree, yeah.
- 14:51Tad Eggleston: Howard Luttner?
- 14:55Tad Eggleston: You know, oh, I went to lunch at the Epstein's once, and they told me about a sexual massage, and I said, you're gross, and we never spoke again. Oh, well, we just happened to be the Caribbean, and we needed lunch, so it was my family, and our nannies, and we just had lunch.
- 15:15ROYGBIV: Yes, I… yes, I agree. It is ridiculous.
- 15:19Tad Eggleston: I mean, so, like… Yeah.
- 15:26ROYGBIV: It's funny.
- 15:27Tad Eggleston: If people weren't dying, it would be funny.
- 15:34ROYGBIV: Correct, yep.
- 15:35Tad Eggleston: You know what I mean?
- 15:37ROYGBIV: Yep, it is a weird situation we're in right now. So…
- 15:42Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 15:44Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 15:45ROYGBIV: Alright, well, that's…
- 15:47Tad Eggleston: So there we go.
- 15:48ROYGBIV: I think there was, like, one more thing that I cannot remember that happened that was pretty… Interesting.
- 15:54Tad Eggleston: I mean, he did go to the Supreme Court. He sat for oral arguments at the Supreme Court.
- 16:00Tad Eggleston: First president ever to do that. And for the birthright citizen case…
- 16:05ROYGBIV: God.
- 16:07Tad Eggleston: And then…
- 16:09Tad Eggleston: And, you know, people who are experiencing this say this is, like, this is something that's absolutely not done.
- 16:18Tad Eggleston: He left early.
- 16:22ROYGBIV: He just got up and left.
- 16:25Tad Eggleston: I think he left between the… the…
- 16:29Tad Eggleston: I think he left after… after the US had made their case, and before the ACLU did, so it wasn't quite like he just stormed out, and, like, he was smart enough to…
- 16:41Tad Eggleston: To sit in the back and not make too big a deal of himself, but, like…
- 16:46Tad Eggleston: A, it doesn't actually look like even this court is gonna strike down birthright citizenship. You know, one of my favorite parts was when the government's lawyer was… was talking about how there were 8 billion people that were a plane ride away from
- 17:04Tad Eggleston: having a child that was a U.S. citizen is a whole new world, and John Roberts is like, it is a whole new world, but it's the same Constitution.
- 17:18ROYGBIV: Yeah, exactly.
- 17:19Tad Eggleston: I mean, there was pushback from fucking Brett Kavanaugh.
- 17:23Tad Eggleston: When you got Brett Kavanaugh slapping you around, on your MAGA stuff.
- 17:32ROYGBIV: Yeah.
- 17:33Tad Eggleston: I mean, he's really not capable of slapping around on most things, so, like, when you've got Brett Kavanaugh slapping you around rather than sounding like an idiot.
- 17:43ROYGBIV: He's stepping it up.
- 17:45Tad Eggleston: Neil Gorsuch asked about Native Americans, and the government lawyer didn't have an answer.
- 17:54ROYGBIV: What?
- 17:55Tad Eggleston: As to whether Native Americans would be citizens?
- 17:59Tad Eggleston: Yeah… yeah, yeah. It did not go well. It did not go well, thank God.
- 18:07ROYGBIV: Well, let's…
- 18:08Tad Eggleston: I can't imagine… I can't imagine Donald, like, went down there and then watched it not go well and was happy.
- 18:16ROYGBIV: Correct. So, what are they trying to do with getting rid of this birthright citizenship? Does that mean that you or I could be deported because we angered the great Donald Trump?
- 18:29Tad Eggleston: I mean, at this moment, no. What they're trying to do is say that if your parents aren't citizens, just because you're born here doesn't mean you're a citizen.
- 18:38ROYGBIV: Okay, I didn't know if that was as far as they wanted to take it.
- 18:41Tad Eggleston: I mean, that's as far as it's… I mean, once you start chipping at it.
- 18:46ROYGBIV: I know, that's… pretty soon, it's like, well, that's pretty much everybody.
- 18:50Tad Eggleston: I mean, I mean, remember, remember when they, they, they, they, like, started chipping away at the, the Voting Rights Act, and it's like, oh, we're only doing this, this is, you know… and now it might as well not exist.
- 19:06ROYGBIV: I… yes, yeah.
- 19:08Tad Eggleston: So, yeah. No. It's dumb.
- 19:12Tad Eggleston: It's dumb. So let's talk some cool-looking, new-to-order comics. Initial orders are due at your comic shop on April 23rd. Tyler, you're leading off today.
- 19:26ROYGBIV: Yeah, we're gonna do some Dungeons & Dragons. This new book, as soon as I find it, is called Dungeons & Dragons Total Party Killers, number 1, and the Wiz…
- 19:40ROYGBIV: The wizard Kustos has died, and his lair lies ripe with for the taking. As adventurers raid the lair of treasure, the monsters enthralled by Kustos in the life
- 19:52ROYGBIV: Must protect his domain even after his death.
- 19:56ROYGBIV: That is, unless the creatures can trick someone into releasing them, thus a lycanthrope, gelatinous cube, Mind Flayer, Death Knight, and Baby Beholder form their own adventuring party to win their freedom in a hostile world.
- 20:13ROYGBIV: This is from Dark Horse, from Christopher Hastings, and illustrated by Dennis Medri. Looks like we're, final order cut off on June 8th, and we'll be in shops July.
- 20:29ROYGBIV: 22nd.
- 20:32Tad Eggleston: Alright.
- 20:33Tad Eggleston: the… the first Flux House book
- 20:37Tad Eggleston: Due to come out from Oni Press.
- 20:40ROYGBIV: Huh?
- 20:41Tad Eggleston: Mind Management New and Improved Number 1.
- 20:48Tad Eggleston: From Matt Kent.
- 20:50Tad Eggleston: Ten years ago, the extra governmental agency known as Mind Management exploded in a barrage of bullets and brain matter.
- 20:58Tad Eggleston: Those that survived have gone underground, forging new lives with unremarkable identities and falsified pasts to obfuscate the strange abilities that once made them highly priced assets in the global war for psychic control.
- 21:12Tad Eggleston: Now, two investigators, Detective Delphi and Detective Swan, have
- 21:17Tad Eggleston: Found themselves at the center of an unexpected puzzle.
- 21:20Tad Eggleston: Here, a man poisoned in a coffee shop with a sophisticated neurotoxin. There, a supposed suicide victim, run over by a train, with his arms found in a trash can 5 miles from the tracks.
- 21:33Tad Eggleston: Their connection?
- 21:35Tad Eggleston: Someone is killing former mine management agents in improbable and arcane ways. Seemingly impossible crimes committed by a faceless killer capable of evading even the most pervasive digital surveillance. What secret are they killing?
- 21:51Tad Eggleston: To protect? Who will be next? Has mind management returned? Did it ever go away? You are paranoid, but are you paranoid enough?
- 22:01Tad Eggleston: Final order cutoff is May 20… er, April 27th in stores on June 24th. I am psyched as hell. I love mind management.
- 22:12ROYGBIV: It's good.
- 22:13Tad Eggleston: Have we done mind management on the show yet?
- 22:15ROYGBIV: No, not as a whole, like, look at the…
- 22:19Tad Eggleston: You said that you were interested in possibly doing a book club. That might be the one.
- 22:23ROYGBIV: I am, yes.
- 22:24Tad Eggleston: And it might be another one worth going slow.
- 22:30Tad Eggleston: Like, an issue at a time, rather than… Cause there's so much.
- 22:37ROYGBIV: I would not mind that at all. Matt Kids is so good.
- 22:41Tad Eggleston: We'll… we'll have to… we'll have to consider that.
- 22:44ROYGBIV: I'm good.
- 22:45ROYGBIV: All right.
- 22:46Tad Eggleston: consider that.
- 22:48ROYGBIV: Up to graphic novels?
- 22:50Tad Eggleston: Yeah, and I get to go first this time.
- 22:52ROYGBIV: Yep.
- 22:53Tad Eggleston: Graphic novels, Love and Desire?
- 22:58Tad Eggleston: In the Promised Land, the private lives of Israelis and Palestinians, from Salomeh parent Rashidi.
- 23:06Tad Eggleston: and Dalupi. Love and Desire in the Provinced Land gives voice to a dozen real-life citizens of Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank, who navigate messy boundaries in their homes and bedrooms against a background of geopolitical violence.
- 23:21Tad Eggleston: Collecting interviews conducted before the October 7th attack unleashed a new wave of bloody conflict. The book introduces
- 23:29Tad Eggleston: Fascinating individuals and couples who speak frankly about the transgressions that define their experiences with intimacy. The portrayals represent a diverse population, including an interfaith celebrity power couple, an Orthodox gynecologist, a young gay Muslim, a
- 23:46Tad Eggleston: Palestinian-American feminist, a Ukrainian-Israeli artist, and a Palestinian lesbian in a relationship with an Israeli soldier.
- 23:56ROYGBIV: Okay, can I… I'm sorry. Now, when we talk about Orthodox gynecologists, are we talking about, like, they're just, like, a strict gynecologist, or are they a Jewish gynecologist?
- 24:08Tad Eggleston: I think it's an Orthodox Jew kind… gynecologist.
- 24:12ROYGBIV: Okay. I thought it was a… I thought it was a descriptor for the kind of gynecologist they were.
- 24:18Tad Eggleston: I didn't know that there was an Orthodox gynecologist, but I know that.
- 24:22ROYGBIV: I don't.
- 24:23Tad Eggleston: are Orthodox Jews. So I'm gonna assume that it's an Orthodox Jew.
- 24:28ROYGBIV: But it's funny, though, if you read it.
- 24:30Tad Eggleston: No, no, I get where you're coming from.
- 24:33ROYGBIV: Yeah, anyway, okay, you go on. I will shut up.
- 24:38Tad Eggleston: Through these candid conversations recorded by Parent Rashidi and illustrated with a warm touch by Dalupi, the authors illuminate a culture and a people whose humanity has been shrouded by the fever pitch of politics and the tragedy of genocide. In a strict society where norms are enforced by tradition, religion, and the threat of violence, these ordinary citizens follow their heart and risk it all.

- 28:20ROYGBIV: August 4th from DC and, Elseworlds.
- 28:27Tad Eggleston: Alrighty.
- 28:29Tad Eggleston: And…

- 31:08ROYGBIV: Matt…
- 31:09Tad Eggleston: I mean, this'll come up more later, but the Bad Idea panel was right after my last panel, so I just stayed in the room and enjoyed it, and yes, it looks very good.
- 31:21ROYGBIV: Yes, so that's Matt Kent and Luis LaRosa from Bad Idea out on May 13th.
- 31:28ROYGBIV: So I was very excited. I was doing this particular, order for next Monday.
- 31:35ROYGBIV: Yesterday, and I came across
- 31:39ROYGBIV: Olympus Saga Megalith, and that's the first time I had seen it. I'm like, oh, what's Matt Kinton? I'm like, oh, this looks awesome.
- 31:46ROYGBIV: So… Anywho, what's going on for crowdfunding?
- 31:52Tad Eggleston: We still have a nice slate of crowdfunding stuff. Action Philosophers, Modernity Bites from Fred Van Lenti, Ryan Dunlivy at Rocket Ship Entertainment on Kickstarter through April 9th, Junji Ito's In Old Records, a horror drama on vinyl.
- 32:10ROYGBIV: That'd be awesome.
- 32:11Tad Eggleston: Yeah, no, I ordered one. Adapted by Ryan Katie, with, audio work from Poppy, from 00 Enterprises on Kickstarter through April 11th.
- 32:24Tad Eggleston: The Monster of Blackenstein, not to be confused with Blackenstein, by David F. Walker and Marcelo Di Chiara on Kickstarter through April 13th. I've read this, it's fantastic.
- 32:39ROYGBIV: Okay, so that's actually the title, The Monster of Blackenstein with a Y, and then it says, not to be confused with Blackenstein with an EI. Right. Okay, just checking if that's actually.
- 32:49Tad Eggleston: And I actually asked him if, like, it was supposed to be a Blackenstein, Blackenstein thing, and nope, it's Blackenstein, Blackenstein. He let me guess. He was curious as to how I was reading, and he's like, it's fine, but it's actually because there was a horrible movie called Blackenstein.
- 33:08Tad Eggleston: In, like, the 70s.
- 33:09ROYGBIV: Okay.
- 33:10Tad Eggleston: It's not that Blackenstein.
- 33:13Tad Eggleston: That's why the…
- 33:16ROYGBIV: Funny.
- 33:18ROYGBIV: I wasn't sure if it was just like a… like a disclaimer, like, hey guys, it's not that blacken sign, but it is actually part of the title, huh?
- 33:25Tad Eggleston: Yeah, it is.
- 33:26ROYGBIV: Okay.
- 33:27Tad Eggleston: Star Wolf from John Coates is on Kickstarter through April 18th. Dan Dare, First Contact from Alex Campi and Mark Lamming from B7 Comics on Kickstarter through April 22nd. Business as usual.

- 34:27Tad Eggleston: on Kickstarter through… it says, launches March 30th. Let's… let's find out when it ends really quick.
- 34:34Tad Eggleston: I'm used to Phil reading that one.
- 34:38ROYGBIV: Yeah.
- 34:38Tad Eggleston: It's, it's, it's a lot.
- 34:40ROYGBIV: I know, there's a lot from Hollow Ground. While Tad's looking up the end date, the last one on the list is Stefan Franck's Complete Palomino from Dark Planet Comics, and it says, launching soon.
- 34:54Tad Eggleston: Yes, and we're leaving that as launching soon, because it has not launched, but we have talked to him about it, and I have read it, and it is amazing, so we are going to continue plugging that forever.
- 35:04Tad Eggleston: At least until it's funded. The Hallow Grant is through April 23rd. Okay. So 18 more days to go. They're about halfway to their goal, and they're about to get a little bit closer as I back them.
- 35:22ROYGBIV: But, oh, right.
- 35:24Tad Eggleston: Damn.
- 35:25ROYGBIV: Humble Bundles this week! Love & Rockets and more, the collected Hernandez brothers from Fanagraphics. You get, 57 items for $18.
- 35:38ROYGBIV: That's an amazing deal, you guys, go for that one. And then, that is going to the ACLU, and that has been extended through April 9th.
- 35:48ROYGBIV: Ec Resurrection Bundle. If you like EC Oni stuff going on, go check out the EC Resurrection Bundle. That, you get 39 issues for $18, and I'd have to look it up, but I'm not sure what CBLFDF is.
- 36:04Tad Eggleston: I want to book Legal Defense Fund.
- 36:07ROYGBIV: Okay, Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, and that will be extended through April 7th, so you got a few more days to get on that.
- 36:15ROYGBIV: the best of Joe Hill at IDW. Joe Hill is the, writer of, the key, Lock and Key series.
- 36:24ROYGBIV: That you get 15 items for $18, and that is going to the Book Industry Charitable Foundation, that ends at April 9th.
- 36:35ROYGBIV: This one, I have already, bought. For $25, you get 43 items from the collected peanuts.
- 36:45ROYGBIV: You, your money is going to the…
- 36:48Tad Eggleston: I've gotten that one, too.
- 36:49ROYGBIV: Yep. You're.
- 36:52Tad Eggleston: you…
- 36:52ROYGBIV: I'm essentially getting…
- 36:53Tad Eggleston: everything Phantographics has done peanuts-related.
- 36:58ROYGBIV: And that's going to the Canine Companions, it's very fitting. that ends April 19th. And then, lastly, it's The Boys, the Grand Finale. You're… for your $18, you will get 13 items, and again.
- 37:14Tad Eggleston: Which is all 12 volumes, original volumes of the boys, and the… the Boys Dear Becky
- 37:21Tad Eggleston: That came out a couple years ago, so it's, it's essentially all of the boys comics.
- 37:26ROYGBIV: Yeah.
- 37:27Tad Eggleston: e-books.
- 37:27ROYGBIV: That's awesome. And that is also going to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, and get that, go out and get that before April 23rd. That's when that will be ending. That is my sister's birthday.
- 37:40Tad Eggleston: Is it?
- 37:41ROYGBIV: Yeah.
- 37:42ROYGBIV: Yep.
- 37:44ROYGBIV: So, I'm 44, so she'll be 38.
- 37:47ROYGBIV: In case anybody was wondering about my little sister.
- 37:50Tad Eggleston: Yeah, yeah. So, amazing books this week.
- 37:56ROYGBIV: Yes.
- 37:57ROYGBIV: So many good books.
- 38:02Tad Eggleston: Mad About DC No. 1 takes my top spot. It was just so fucking hilarious.
- 38:08ROYGBIV: all of these books… I will tell a story about your number 3 when we get to it, but…
- 38:14Tad Eggleston: Right. It was… it was just fantastic. I… I can't, I can't… it just… it felt classic Mad. If you like DC, you know, it was… it was lovingly lampooning them.
- 38:26Tad Eggleston: Like, it's just… Yeah, it's… it hit the spot.
- 38:32Tad Eggleston: Briar Knights Tower No. 4. Chris and Alex, stuck the landing on the end of their Briar tail here.
- 38:41ROYGBIV: Yep.
- 38:41Tad Eggleston: I very much enjoyed it. I'm hoping that it gets, like, a hardcover, all 12-issue compendium-type thing.
- 38:47ROYGBIV: Definitely.
- 38:47Tad Eggleston: be a thing that I put on my shelf.
- 38:49Tad Eggleston: And, I know that, a friend of the podcast, Zach Quaintance, had mixed feelings about it at the beat, but I really enjoyed Bizarro You're None.
- 39:00Tad Eggleston: From Kevin Smith, Eric Carrasco, and Nick Patara at DC.
- 39:04ROYGBIV: Funny thing about Bizarro, year one is…
- 39:08Tad Eggleston: You're not…
- 39:08ROYGBIV: You're none, excuse me, number one. You're none, number one. Kevin Smith. I had,
- 39:17ROYGBIV: failed to order enough copies, and so I didn't get mine, but I do want to read it.
- 39:23ROYGBIV: But the rest of them in your honorable mentions are all amazing, and I sold out of.
- 39:27Tad Eggleston: Oh, they are.
- 39:27ROYGBIV: Like, right away.
- 39:29Tad Eggleston: Oh yeah, no, this was a great, great, great week.
- 39:32Tad Eggleston: Daredevil was great, Batman Static is great, Babs is amazing. I haven't actually read the Archie vs. Army of Darkness yet, but that's… isn't that…
- 39:43Tad Eggleston: No, that's not the Jimmy and Amanda one. No. But it still looks great. It is, yeah.
- 39:49Tad Eggleston: Batman number 8 was amazing.
- 39:52ROYGBIV: Yup.
- 39:53Tad Eggleston: And Kaya's next on my stack to read, so…
- 39:56ROYGBIV: Okay, so, I would like to… so, Toxic Avenger, have you been reading that, in… since the beginning, or…
- 40:04Tad Eggleston: I've been reading it since the beginning, but I've been reading it in bunches.
- 40:08ROYGBIV: Okay, okay.
- 40:09Tad Eggleston: So I haven't read number 8. Have you been digging it?
- 40:12ROYGBIV: Yes, I'm really getting into that, and then, the Toxic, Crusaders as well. Yeah. That series is pretty good. Now, Daredevil No. 1 also came out. I noticed, that wasn't on your top 3. What did you think of it?
- 40:27Tad Eggleston: I loved it.
- 40:28ROYGBIV: Okay.
- 40:29Tad Eggleston: I mean, like, it was… it was the… the… it was… It's probably actually number 5.
- 40:36ROYGBIV: Okay.
- 40:37Tad Eggleston: Because Batman was that good.
- 40:44Tad Eggleston: And you know me, I'm 3 or 9, and I didn't read 9 comics this week, because I was busy.
- 40:51ROYGBIV: Yep.
- 40:51Tad Eggleston: I mean… I wouldn't be surprised at all if it could have, like…
- 40:59Tad Eggleston: Just looking at what's there, like, it would have been number 5… Babs…
- 41:06Tad Eggleston: Babs and Kaia likely give you 6 and 7.
- 41:10Tad Eggleston: 52 gives you 8.
- 41:12ROYGBIV: Yup.
- 41:13Tad Eggleston: And then I would have had to, like, catch up on a series to get denied.
- 41:18ROYGBIV: Okay, I'll tell you that wasn't a possibility. I get it.
- 41:21Tad Eggleston: Or read Army of Darkness.
- 41:24Tad Eggleston: Archie.
- 41:25ROYGBIV: Yeah.
- 41:26ROYGBIV: Well, nor…
- 41:27Tad Eggleston: So it was… it wasn't a week where I was gonna get to 9.
- 41:30ROYGBIV: Okay.
- 41:32ROYGBIV: Phil is gone, so we can't really take a walk.
- 41:35Tad Eggleston: No, Phil can't take a walk, so we'll take a walk with Tyler.
- 41:38ROYGBIV: Yeah.
- 41:39Tad Eggleston: You have 4 things to talk about?
- 41:42Tad Eggleston: Either 4 comics that you read this week that you liked, or… or…
- 41:46ROYGBIV: I'm gonna… I look at what Phil wrote here, and he said, what series should I read next? Phil, if you listen to this, go with Chainsaw Man. My Hero Academia is a little bit, mmm… young, and I would think that you may get a little bit…
- 42:02ROYGBIV: I don't know, distract… it's just not as engaging.
- 42:06ROYGBIV: For… for me, so go ahead and try that. I'm also going to, be starting…
- 42:18ROYGBIV: From the beginning is,
- 42:23ROYGBIV: well, because there's just some kind of one-shot that came out, but, you're familiar with hate?
- 42:28ROYGBIV: Ted?
- 42:29Tad Eggleston: The, the… Peter Bagg?
- 42:32ROYGBIV: Yep.
- 42:33Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 42:34ROYGBIV: So, I've got a great hate collection that just came in that I'm gonna, read that, and.
- 42:39Tad Eggleston: Isn't that… isn't that the collection of the Revisited?
- 42:43ROYGBIV: Not sure. It might be.
- 42:46Tad Eggleston: If it's Volume 3, I think it's Hate Revisited, which was a series he did…
- 42:51Tad Eggleston: During the time that we've had this podcast. Yeah. That I thought you read when it came out.
- 42:55ROYGBIV: I probably did, but I have a terrible memory.
- 42:59Tad Eggleston: No, that's.
- 42:59ROYGBIV: That's fair. I'm just helping.
- 43:02Tad Eggleston: I'm helping out our listeners. Hi, Mom.
- 43:04ROYGBIV: Hey, John.
- 43:05Tad Eggleston: Hi, Adam.
- 43:06Tad Eggleston: Hi, Britt.
- 43:07ROYGBIV: Yeah, and then I am very much looking forward to, Free Comic Book Day. I just got in all my bundles for, for my giveaways. I have to, I have to unpack them, but there was very strict, information in there about these are not to be…
- 43:25ROYGBIV: distributed prior to May 2nd. Oh, yeah, oh yeah. Superman Day is coming up, too, so I got Superman Day promo stuff.
- 43:33Tad Eggleston: So did you, did you manage to book anybody to come out?
- 43:38Tad Eggleston: For Free Comic Book Day?
- 43:40ROYGBIV: We are having some cosplayers from Sioux Falls that will be, doubling for Free Comic Book Day and Star Wars Day, because I'm not going to open up on Monday. I'm generally not open on Mondays, so I'm not gonna turn around and open up on Monday, because Star Wars Day in La Verne is not a big…
- 43:59ROYGBIV: Hoopla. And so, I'm gonna have, a guy coming on New Comic Book Day, two days earlier, in Boba Fett, costume, and then,
- 44:13ROYGBIV: possibly, some stormtroopers as well. He's seeing who he's lighting up from his, cosplay troupe, so…
- 44:21Tad Eggleston: Gotcha.
- 44:21ROYGBIV: Yep.
- 44:22Tad Eggleston: So far, what we have at Modern Age is, Tim Seeley, who also has two free comics.
- 44:30Tad Eggleston: Coming out, Free Comic Book Day.
- 44:33ROYGBIV: Yeah.
- 44:34Tad Eggleston: So…
- 44:35ROYGBIV: I'm… I…
- 44:37ROYGBIV: I haven't… I mean, it's kind of late in the game now, but I've… I didn't really think about, for my first comic book day, about having, like, a guest, because I also… I don't want that, like, added layer of, like, having to, like.
- 44:50ROYGBIV: facilitate that, and run New Comic Book Day, you know?
- 44:55ROYGBIV: But it'll work out. It's gonna be cool. The only thing I need to really flush out right now is shelving for the free comic books. I'm not sure where to display them for people to come in and get them.
- 45:08Tad Eggleston: Gotcha.
- 45:09ROYGBIV: Yeah, but I'll figure it out. I got a month to go.
- 45:15ROYGBIV: So, that was our walk with Phil slash Tyler. One piece race, week 83. Is it really week 83?
- 45:23Tad Eggleston: I think it's week 84, because I don't think I updated that, and there are also poss… at some point, I need to go back and, like…
- 45:33Tad Eggleston: Check, check.
- 45:35Tad Eggleston: Because… because I feel like I may have neglected updating it multiple times, which is why I have a question mark there.
- 45:43ROYGBIV: Sure.
- 45:44ROYGBIV: So, have you moved forward?
- 45:47Tad Eggleston: I was not becalmed.
- 45:50ROYGBIV: Yeah.
- 45:51Tad Eggleston: I read 10 chapters, I finished off a volume.
- 45:56ROYGBIV: yeah, I'm like, you move forward.
- 45:57Tad Eggleston: Yeah, yeah, I finished off a volume. They, they, they, they, they have, mostly successfully, defended Fishtown.
- 46:08Tad Eggleston: And… and discovered that the… the…
- 46:13Tad Eggleston: the… the fish… the fish man queen, fishwoman queen, had not been killed by a human. She'd been killed by a, you know, 10 years ago, she was killed by a fish man that didn't want her… her…
- 46:29Tad Eggleston: initiative to… to…
- 46:32Tad Eggleston: Normalize relationship… relations with the humans to go through, so he… he staged a thing to make it look like she was killed by a human.
- 46:42Tad Eggleston: As we see, like, echoes of global politics continue in one piece, both in terms of racism and whatnot, and in terms of, you know, people
- 46:56Tad Eggleston: People wanting grudges to continue.
- 47:01Tad Eggleston: for… for their own reasons, that sort of thing. So yeah, I enjoyed it. I'm hoping that I enjoyed it enough to keep me…
- 47:10Tad Eggleston: Propelled forward.
- 47:12Tad Eggleston: But yeah.
- 47:15Tad Eggleston: Did you read any One Piece this week, Tyler?
- 47:18ROYGBIV: No, I did watch a little bit, though, of the live action.
- 47:22Tad Eggleston: Okay. How is the live action?
- 47:24ROYGBIV: Well, I enjoy it. I mean, some of the characters, you think they could do a little better on trying to, like,
- 47:33ROYGBIV: I don't know, keep true to the… to the story. Like, Usopp, I'm not very… I'm not a big fan of how they did him in the Netflix series. I think they did Usopp dirty.
- 47:43ROYGBIV: As far as, like, getting somebody that really encompasses that, like, crazy nose he has, and that kind of stuff.
- 47:52Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 47:53ROYGBIV: It's the story.
- 47:54Tad Eggleston: Compare it to the… to the anime.
- 47:56ROYGBIV: I, I think it's better, you think it's better?
- 47:59Tad Eggleston: Better than the anime.
- 48:00ROYGBIV: It's easier to follow, yeah.
- 48:02Tad Eggleston: Okay.
- 48:02ROYGBIV: Because what… what I've noticed is that with the anime, you're so…
- 48:08ROYGBIV: focus on all the hyper details that he puts into his stories, and with the Netflix, it's gotta be a little more concise than that, you know? It's gotta be hitting the major points, so I… I like it that way, kind of filters out all the extra.
- 48:25Tad Eggleston: Okay.
- 48:26ROYGBIV: But… Yeah, I thought it was really cool.
- 48:32ROYGBIV: I gotta get back to reading, though. I really do want to get into it, because, it's one of those.
- 48:39Tad Eggleston: I mean, it really is great.
- 48:41ROYGBIV: It is, yeah.
- 48:42Tad Eggleston: You know, I mean, I'm blown away that, like, I went 600-some-odd chapters before I even fell off for a while.
- 48:52Tad Eggleston: Yes. You know what I mean?
- 48:53ROYGBIV: Yeah, exactly. I was in the 500s before I was like, yeah, I can't.
- 48:57Tad Eggleston: I mean, how many comics can you think… I mean, because think about it, the chapters are what?
- 49:03Tad Eggleston: 20 pages apiece?
- 49:05ROYGBIV: Correct.
- 49:06Tad Eggleston: So… 12?
- 49:12Tad Eggleston: Thousand pages?
- 49:14ROYGBIV: Yeah, about 12,000 pages worth of reading, yeah.
- 49:17Tad Eggleston: Before I slowed down.
- 49:21Tad Eggleston: Can you think of anything that you've read 12,000 pages in a row?
- 49:25ROYGBIV: I know, it's crazy, isn't it? I…
- 49:28ROYGBIV: I cannot. I mean, maybe there's a book, Infinite Jest, that is very large. I don't know if it's 12.
- 49:35Tad Eggleston: Yeah, but it's… no, it's, like, a thousand or so.
- 49:39ROYGBIV: Yep.
- 49:40ROYGBIV: Yep, you're right.
- 49:41Tad Eggleston: I mean, I was just thinking that, like, I have listened to… the Wheel of Time.
- 49:52Tad Eggleston: I haven't… I mean, I've read The Wheel of Time a couple of times, but… but I… I have…
- 49:58Tad Eggleston: the only times I've ever, like, gone non-stop without having, like, significant periods of going away was I've listened to it through a couple of times, right? Like, where it was I listened every time I was in the car,
- 50:18Tad Eggleston: And… It… Is about 10,000 pages.
- 50:25ROYGBIV: Wow.
- 50:27Tad Eggleston: Like, the 14 books.
- 50:29ROYGBIV: Yeah, you're right, so that's pretty huge.
- 50:32Tad Eggleston: You know, 1079 is what Infinite Jest is.
- 50:37ROYGBIV: Okay.
- 50:41Tad Eggleston: you know, the first really long book that I… that I read, that I thought of how many pages, was… was…
- 50:54Tad Eggleston: Lonesome Dove is, like, 980-something. Oh, is it?
- 50:59Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 51:00Tad Eggleston: But, like, again… I mean, you think a long…
- 51:09ROYGBIV: long-form stories like that. And…
- 51:14Tad Eggleston: I mean, I just want to make certain I'm not adding a zero. 20… times 600… Yep, 12,000.
- 51:23ROYGBIV: Correct, yep.
- 51:29Tad Eggleston: I'm trying to think of, like, is there anything where I've read 600 issues of? I mean, I guess if you take… I read pretty much all of the Ultimate Universe once.
- 51:41Tad Eggleston: together.
- 51:43ROYGBIV: The original Ultimate Universe?
- 51:44Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 51:45ROYGBIV: Yeah, okay.
- 51:46Tad Eggleston: That probably comes up on 12,000 pages.
- 51:50ROYGBIV: Probably.
- 51:52Tad Eggleston: But it was, like, 7 different series.
- 51:54ROYGBIV: Yes.
- 51:55ROYGBIV: Yep.
- 51:56Tad Eggleston: Plus miniseries, plus… You know? But like…
- 52:05Tad Eggleston: Let's, let's assume, let's assume,
- 52:10Tad Eggleston: Let's even assume 25 pages, because a lot of the great series have…
- 52:17Tad Eggleston: enough double issues or longer issues to be close to that. So how many issues was Walking Dead?
- 52:25ROYGBIV: 100 and some, but I don't remember… it was, like, a weird number.
- 52:29Tad Eggleston: I think it wound up being 196?
- 52:31ROYGBIV: Yeah, I think that sounds really…
- 52:33Tad Eggleston: 197?
- 52:34ROYGBIV: It was not, like, a nice round number, I remember that.
- 52:36Tad Eggleston: Well, because they, they, they ended… They earned it unexpectedly.
- 52:41ROYGBIV: Correct. They're just like, yep, we're done. I'm like, oh.
- 52:44Tad Eggleston: They even solicited, like, the next two, which is what I think is awesome.
- 52:48ROYGBIV: Oh, it's just to get everybody pumped up for it, and then you gotta.
- 52:51Tad Eggleston: No, no, I mean, so that nobody knew when they were coming to buy the comic that it was the last one.
- 52:57ROYGBIV: Yup, right, right, right.
- 52:59Tad Eggleston: Which I just think is… is crazy awesome.
- 53:07ROYGBIV: It's brilliant, for sure.
- 53:10Tad Eggleston: 193. It was 193.
- 53:13Tad Eggleston: So, like, going back to our calculator, 193… and again, we're gonna give them 25 pages, which…
- 53:23Tad Eggleston: Might be low, Probably is actually high.
- 53:28Tad Eggleston: 193 times 25 is only 4,825 pages.
- 53:34ROYGBIV: Okay, so that's the entire Walking Dead series. 4,000 pages.
- 53:38Tad Eggleston: is roughly a little bit more than a third of what I've already read of One Piece, and I'm, like, halfway through One Piece.
- 53:47Tad Eggleston: That's just crazy.
- 53:49ROYGBIV: That's insane. That is a lot. So,
- 53:53ROYGBIV: So that's our one-piece race, it's doing well.
- 53:56Tad Eggleston: I'm just gonna Google it, because I don't feel like doing the,
- 54:01Tad Eggleston: the… the… so this is, like, all caveats, I'm, I'm gonna…
- 54:05Tad Eggleston: I'm going to do… how many pages is one piece currently?
- 54:09ROYGBIV: Sure.
- 54:11Tad Eggleston: I don't feel like finding it and doing the math.
- 54:14Tad Eggleston: One piece is currently 21… 1,540 pages.
- 54:21ROYGBIV: Okay, that's not bad, that's, that's alright, that's alright. Kidding, that's insane. Wow.
- 54:30ROYGBIV: I don't even know, I don't even have anything to add to that.
- 54:33ROYGBIV: So, Phil has read probably no One Piece, but he is thinking about going on to other manga.
- 54:44Tad Eggleston: Oh, wait a minute. Hold on a second, really quickly. This is actually,
- 54:53Tad Eggleston: This is only through Volume 102.
- 54:56ROYGBIV: Whoa!
- 54:57Tad Eggleston: we're beyond that. There's a French artist named Ilan… Monarch.
- 55:05ROYGBIV: Okay?
- 55:06Tad Eggleston: Who unofficially compiled the thickest single volume books ever to be published.
- 55:12Tad Eggleston: Volumes… volume… a single volume of One Piece for 102 chapters, bound by Elise DeMaio.
- 55:25Tad Eggleston: It's 12 by 18.5 by 80 centimeters, and wears roughly 17 kilograms.
- 55:34ROYGBIV: Wow, that is a beast!
- 55:39ROYGBIV: That'd be cool, though.
- 55:41Tad Eggleston: That would be worth seeing, I don't think I'd want to have one.
- 55:43ROYGBIV: No, it would be, we're seeing, like, 12 by 18, so we're talking a foot wide, okay, by a foot and a half tall.
- 55:52ROYGBIV: And 18 centimeters?
- 55:55Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 55:56ROYGBIV: I don't know how deep that is, but it's… it's big.
- 55:59ROYGBIV: Yeah, no.
- 55:59Tad Eggleston: So, yeah, according to Reddit.
- 56:03Tad Eggleston: The East Blue Saga was 2184 pages. The Alabasta Saga was 2467 pages. The Skypea Saga was 1794. The Ennis Lobby Saga was 2966. The thriller Bark Saga was 1021.
- 56:22Tad Eggleston: The Summit War Saga is 2255. The Fishman Island Saga, which is the one that I'm in the middle of…
- 56:30Tad Eggleston: is 1032. Oh, and by the way, this is 3 years…
- 56:36Tad Eggleston: This post is 3 years old, so, like…
- 56:39ROYGBIV: Oh, wow.
- 56:42Tad Eggleston: Derosa Saga will be next at 3041, Whole Cake Island Saga 2113, Wano Country Saga, 2972. The final saga was, at that time, 604 pages and counting. Again, this post is 3 years old.
- 56:57Tad Eggleston: So, as of 3 years ago, it was at 22,449 plus pages.
- 57:04ROYGBIV: Not bad.
- 57:06ROYGBIV: That is awesome.
- 57:08ROYGBIV: That is… That's… I can't wait till one of us finishes it. It's gonna be awesome.
- 57:15Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 57:16ROYGBIV: Alright, let's get to C2E2. What happened last week, Ted?
- 57:20Tad Eggleston: Oh, well, first of all, all the panels went well, which made me really, really happy. I met some cool people. I actually had one panel, and he's already emailed me, I need to reach out to him. A similar podcast to ours, where it was just a couple of buddies that like to talk comics, so they started a podcast.
- 57:37Tad Eggleston: And they're on hiatus because one of them is busy, but I will probably invite the other one to join us for a while.
- 57:46Tad Eggleston: I had a guy… actually, let me find the email, so we can plug his podcast really quick.
- 57:52Tad Eggleston: But,
- 57:56Tad Eggleston: Yeah, no, after a panel, he actually came up to me, he's like, you know, I came for all these people, but I should have come for you. You've done… you've put out 23 podcasts in the last month?
- 58:12Tad Eggleston: Yes. So this was Dan, who had a podcast called Faces of the Moon Knight from 2021 and 22, and is now doing a Comics Over Time podcast.
- 58:25Tad Eggleston: And has contributed to the comic book Yeti, which we've had Jimmy Gasper on.
- 58:33ROYGBIV: Yeah.
- 58:33Tad Eggleston: comic book yeti. But he's also a baseball guy, loves comics,
- 58:43Tad Eggleston: yeah, smart guy, etc. So we had a good talk, and we'll definitely be, hitting him up to come join us.
- 58:55Tad Eggleston: Because, you know, he was a cool guy. Yeah. I told you to remind me about Simon Bisley. So, so Shelly Bond had told me that I needed to say hi to Simon Bisley for her.
- 59:10ROYGBIV: Okay.
- 59:11Tad Eggleston: I went, and, like, that's what I started with, and she's like, he's like, Simon, er, Shelly, or…
- 59:17Tad Eggleston: Getting all tongue-tied here, too many S-words. Simon's like, Shelly who?
- 59:22ROYGBIV: Chili B.
- 59:23Tad Eggleston: Shelly Bond. I don't know if I know a Shelly Bond. I'm like.
- 59:27Tad Eggleston: Philippon's wife, where does she live?
- 59:32ROYGBIV: Was he messing with you?
- 59:33Tad Eggleston: Yes, he was totally messing with me.
- 59:35ROYGBIV: Okay, okay, okay.
- 59:36Tad Eggleston: Eventually, it got to the point where I just said, the one that signs your checks.
- 59:44ROYGBIV: That's funny.
- 59:46Tad Eggleston: But at that point, he'd already become fascinated because, Edgar was with me. Dr. Ramos was with me, and he was wearing a vintage Harley-Davidson jacket.
- 59:55Tad Eggleston: And… and Simon was… was fascinated by the jacket.
- 59:59ROYGBIV: Yep.
- 59:59Tad Eggleston: So Simon wound up trying on the jacket. I've got a picture of him and Edgar with Simon wearing Edgar's jacket.
- 1:00:07ROYGBIV: Ramos' jacket, I love it.
- 1:00:08Tad Eggleston: Right, and it seriously seems like, like, there could be, like, a signing at…
- 1:00:15Tad Eggleston: at, modern age, the next time Bisley's in the States, in exchange for a jacket or a motorcycle, though I am.
- 1:00:24ROYGBIV: Or a motor… a jacket, or a motorcycle.
- 1:00:27Tad Eggleston: I mean, remember that Edgar's got 28 Harleys.
- 1:00:31ROYGBIV: That's true.
- 1:00:33ROYGBIV: He, he fixed.
- 1:00:34Tad Eggleston: is Harleys. It's not like…
- 1:00:39Tad Eggleston: Possibly a jacket and a motorcycle? I mean, the motorcycle would also have to be got in a home, so, like…
- 1:00:46Tad Eggleston: It's easier to take a jacket back to the UK than a motorcycle back to the UK.
- 1:00:51ROYGBIV: Yeah, yeah, yeah, but…
- 1:00:54Tad Eggleston: But, but, like, my fear and, and, and,
- 1:00:59Tad Eggleston: is that we'd book it, and Simon would get there, and he and Edgar would just vanish on Harleys, and, like…
- 1:01:08Tad Eggleston: The whole time we go, well, this is Simon's stuff, we think he'll be back later today.
- 1:01:17ROYGBIV: We think he'll be coming back, but… That's funny.
- 1:01:22Tad Eggleston: The owner brought a cool Harley, and they went riding.
- 1:01:28Tad Eggleston: The last time we, we, we, pinged Edgar's phone, thankfully his wife put a Find My iPhone on him.
- 1:01:39Tad Eggleston: They were 600 miles away!
- 1:01:43Tad Eggleston: This is how I envision it. Yeah, this is how it's gonna go. I'm sitting there with a room full of rabid Simon Bisley fans.
- 1:01:55Tad Eggleston: Trying to explain why the boss and Simon went on a motorcycle ride.
- 1:02:03Tad Eggleston: I'm like, I prayed for rain, I wanted rain. It was a nice day, they went riding.
- 1:02:09ROYGBIV: Prayed for rain so they would stay put.
- 1:02:12Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 1:02:13Tad Eggleston: But I, I got to know Olivia Cuart Briggs, who did Kill Train, and,
- 1:02:23Tad Eggleston: Oh, Jill and the Killers, and college Try?
- 1:02:30Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 1:02:31ROYGBIV: Okay.
- 1:02:32Tad Eggleston: So, that was fun. If you haven't read Kill Train, Kill Train's way up your alley.
- 1:02:39Tad Eggleston: I finally read it after meeting her, and I liked it. It's really, really good, but it's also very much horror, and… and…
- 1:02:47Tad Eggleston: And I don't know how soon I'll re-read it.
- 1:02:49ROYGBIV: Oh, sure, sure, sure.
- 1:02:51Tad Eggleston: you know, essentially its premise is New York needs to cut down its population, so they institute the kill train, where, like, random subway trains, they just kill all of the…
- 1:03:05Tad Eggleston: All of the people on the train.
- 1:03:07ROYGBIV: Yeah. How… are they just, like, some kind of accident, or…
- 1:03:11Tad Eggleston: Well, initially they had something set up, but too many people quit, so they just started putting serial killers on the train.
- 1:03:23ROYGBIV: That's actually a pretty good idea. Just, like, let them have, like, a field day.
- 1:03:28Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 1:03:29ROYGBIV: Hmm.
- 1:03:30Tad Eggleston: I mean, I don't know if good idea is the way that I'd phrase it.
- 1:03:35ROYGBIV: It is.
- 1:03:36Tad Eggleston: I understand what you mean.
- 1:03:38ROYGBIV: It is a good idea, okay? It is. It just… go with it. It is a good idea.
- 1:03:44Tad Eggleston: Do you want to come.
- 1:03:45ROYGBIV: Efficiently kill a bunch of people, put a serial killer on a subway train, and send them out the way!
- 1:03:51Tad Eggleston: But yeah, no, it was a good time. I continue to feel like a pro.
- 1:03:58Tad Eggleston: Which was a nice feeling.
- 1:04:00ROYGBIV: My wife and I were talking about that yesterday. We were looking at pictures of… that you've posted from the experience. I said, I'm so proud of Tad. Look at what he's done as far as taking 22 panels.
- 1:04:12ROYGBIV: From two guys sitting in their houses on an early morning, to actually showing up at a major convention with panels, I mean, to… and you've got them approved, and you're gonna present them.
- 1:04:24ROYGBIV: you've just done so much, and I love it.
- 1:04:29Tad Eggleston: I mean, actually, I thought it was crazy awesome. The Cool People Talking Comics panel went off pretty well, and that's what a lot of the pictures you've seen came from. Yep.
- 1:04:42Tad Eggleston: But, not only did it go off well, but, like…
- 1:04:46Tad Eggleston: Yeah, we weren't in… well, I mean, honestly, we were in about the best time slot for that that I can think of, except for TSA being an issue. Because I think we would have had a much better turnout among creators…
- 1:05:01Tad Eggleston: Who were going, God, it's 2.30 on…
- 1:05:05Tad Eggleston: Sunday afternoon, things are slowing down, I'm so ready to pack up.
- 1:05:10Tad Eggleston: if they… if they were able to go, I've got a panel that I can go beyond a 245, right? Yep, yep.
- 1:05:20Tad Eggleston: But, instead, because of TSA, pretty much anybody flying before 8 was leaving around noon.
- 1:05:29Tad Eggleston: Because they had no idea what to expect at the airport.
- 1:05:32ROYGBIV: Oh, man.
- 1:05:34Tad Eggleston: I mean, I had a number of people who had told me that they somewhat intended to come.
- 1:05:39Tad Eggleston: who then, when they saw me on Sunday, were like, I think I'm gonna have to leave to… to go to the airport.
- 1:05:45Tad Eggleston: you know, I don't… I don't think I can stay long enough
- 1:05:49Tad Eggleston: to come do this. So, I mean, for that matter, even one of our booked people,
- 1:05:56Tad Eggleston: the,
- 1:05:59Tad Eggleston: Eric Osevi, the artist that we're… he… he… I mean, we kind of had to talk him into it, but, like…
- 1:06:09Tad Eggleston: At 2.30, he's like.
- 1:06:12Tad Eggleston: like, do you think I can stick around? You know, should I leave early? And we asked him what time his flight was, and, like, 3 of us were immediately like, no, you can't stay for this panel.
- 1:06:22Tad Eggleston: You need to go to the airport.
- 1:06:24ROYGBIV: We're like, you gotta go.
- 1:06:26Tad Eggleston: Yeah, it's time for you to leave now.
- 1:06:31Tad Eggleston: That's funny.
- 1:06:32ROYGBIV: Poor guy.
- 1:06:33Tad Eggleston: But also, I mean, we were… that panel was given…
- 1:06:38Tad Eggleston: One of the room… like, the biggest room…
- 1:06:42Tad Eggleston: That didn't go to, like, pop culture… Marvel DC-type panels.
- 1:06:50ROYGBIV: Oh, that's awesome!
- 1:06:51Tad Eggleston: You know, one that actually had risers.
- 1:06:56Tad Eggleston: you know, etc, like… so… That felt pretty cool, that my batshit crazy idea was given… space.
- 1:07:07ROYGBIV: given the green light to do what it needs to do. Yeah.
- 1:07:11Tad Eggleston: And for that matter, like, we were right before Bad Idea.
- 1:07:16Tad Eggleston: That's great. Bad idea, came into the room right after us.
- 1:07:20ROYGBIV: And so they were… those fans were probably already kind of geared.
- 1:07:24Tad Eggleston: Some of them…
- 1:07:25ROYGBIV: See, bad idea. Yep.
- 1:07:26Tad Eggleston: Right, some of them were, you know, there was definitely some crossover, that sort of thing. It was, it was really…
- 1:07:32Tad Eggleston: It was a cool experience.
- 1:07:36Tad Eggleston: You know, so I enjoyed myself immensely. I'm really proud of the fact that I managed to manage my senses well.
- 1:07:44Tad Eggleston: Both by having the right toolkit.
- 1:07:47Tad Eggleston: At the con, and by just limiting
- 1:07:50Tad Eggleston: myself and going, okay, no, I'm not going back to the floor today, or, I'm going in late, because, like, like.
- 1:08:00Tad Eggleston: Saturday.
- 1:08:02Tad Eggleston: You know, after we recorded,
- 1:08:06Tad Eggleston: I waited to go in. I almost waited too long, because I completely forgot the… how long it takes to park.
- 1:08:14ROYGBIV: Yeah.
- 1:08:14Tad Eggleston: It was too cold and rainy to walk from my hotel, because it was a little bit more than a mile from my hotel, you know, mile and a half, something like that, and, like, if it had been nice, I would have just walked the mile and a half, right? I had hoped to be able to do that at least once during the con, but the weather was just…
- 1:08:32Tad Eggleston: terrible. Yeah. But, like, I wound up having to text Lucy Knisley from…
- 1:08:42Tad Eggleston: from the line at the parking lot to say, hey, Lucy. I gave myself an hour and a half to get a mile and a half, but I neglected how long it takes to park.
- 1:08:58ROYGBIV: funny.
- 1:08:59Tad Eggleston: You know, cause it was, like, 15 minutes before my panel, and I wasn't out of my car yet, so I'm like…
- 1:09:03Tad Eggleston: hopefully I'll be parked in the next couple of minutes, and then it's how long does it take me to get through security? So I wound up walking into the Lucy and Jeffrey panel, like, right on time.
- 1:09:16Tad Eggleston: Oh, fun.
- 1:09:17ROYGBIV: Crazy.
- 1:09:19Tad Eggleston: But they were great.
- 1:09:22Tad Eggleston: The, the, the, the small press panel was great.
- 1:09:26Tad Eggleston: you know, I had a cool moment where I was there when Spike Trotman met Terry Moore.
- 1:09:34Tad Eggleston: And apparently, Terry Moore is what brought her back into comics, because she'd been a big X-Men person until Age of Apocalypse, which just got too big for her allowance.
- 1:09:44Tad Eggleston: There's too much going on for her allowance, so she fell away from comics entirely, and it was a couple years later that a friend of hers gave… gave her Strangers in Paradise, and, well, the rest is history. You've got Iron Circus now. But, like, I was there when she met and told Terry more that story. And that was just kind of…
- 1:10:04Tad Eggleston: But that was cool.
- 1:10:06Tad Eggleston: So, like…
- 1:10:10Tad Eggleston: Yeah, I mean, it's, like, like, I mean, I've talked about it a lot, particularly since we hit Season 5, that, like, I feel like I live in the Twilight Zone now, and…
- 1:10:21Tad Eggleston: And that con was definitely… Definitely.
- 1:10:25ROYGBIV: Why, though?
- 1:10:25Tad Eggleston: experience of that.
- 1:10:27ROYGBIV: Because you didn't wait around for things to happen for you.
- 1:10:31ROYGBIV: you have gone out and made them happen. You've made it a reality for you to be in this
- 1:10:37ROYGBIV: comic world. Do you know what I mean?
- 1:10:40Tad Eggleston: I mean, a little bit, I get where you're coming from, but also, it turns out that the road was… at least the road of Podcaster was, like, much easier than I expected it to be.
- 1:10:54Tad Eggleston: Because yes, I managed to make myself send emails and whatnot, but they all fucking respond!
- 1:11:02ROYGBIV: Yeah, and that's the thing. If you didn't have a platform like a podcast, you would have had no way in. I mean, what would you have said? That's possible. You would have been like, hey, I'm a fan. They would have been like, great, can't wait for you to read the next book! But instead, you're like, hey, I want to talk to you, and let's flush this out, and then that's…
- 1:11:22Tad Eggleston: But I'm also completely honest about the fact that we have, like, 4 listeners.
- 1:11:26ROYGBIV: And it's funny, though, because it sounds self-deprecating, like you're just, like, you know, stretching that truth, but it's not that far off, you know?
- 1:11:37Tad Eggleston: I mean, I… I still don't know how… how…
- 1:11:40ROYGBIV: Accurate.
- 1:11:40Tad Eggleston: Dreaming parts get… get counted.
- 1:11:45Tad Eggleston: You know, I've messed around a little bit with Podbean, and Podbean seems to do
- 1:11:49Tad Eggleston: Give us streaming numbers a little bit better than… than…
- 1:11:55Tad Eggleston: I don't even remember the other one we were on.
- 1:11:59Tad Eggleston: What were we on before Podbean?
- 1:12:04ROYGBIV: I don't know.
- 1:12:07ROYGBIV: But I can't… it's the tip of my tongue. But we've used a few different, hosting sites. Couples, yeah.
- 1:12:12Tad Eggleston: Yeah. But it still seems very…
- 1:12:17Tad Eggleston: I'm not clear on whether or not we know every time somebody streams on Spotify, or every time somebody…
- 1:12:25Tad Eggleston: stream…
- 1:12:27Tad Eggleston: I mean, I think I can go to YouTube to get the count from YouTube, but we've only recently gotten to YouTube, and because we're only audio on YouTube, we're really only getting…
- 1:12:42Tad Eggleston: the people who like their podcasts on YouTube?
- 1:12:46ROYGBIV: Yes.
- 1:12:47Tad Eggleston: Which I think is more people. Like, I have just a YouTube audio player. I've reached a point where I… my premium audio subscription is YouTube.
- 1:12:56ROYGBIV: Oh, okay.
- 1:12:58Tad Eggleston: They have the best audio player. I mean, really, it's… it's… I switched because of… the… the…
- 1:13:10Tad Eggleston: The audio player on… Amazon's audio player is just crap now.
- 1:13:18ROYGBIV: Is it…
- 1:13:19Tad Eggleston: It skips too much, it can't handle playlists, it can't, you know…
- 1:13:27Tad Eggleston: So, so yeah, no, it looks like we have 15 subscribers, and 745 of our 800-some-odd episodes are now on…
- 1:13:37Tad Eggleston: YouTube.
- 1:13:39Tad Eggleston: But…
- 1:13:47Tad Eggleston: Do we have a listener count?
- 1:13:51Tad Eggleston: That's what I want to figure out. I want to figure out if I… oh, no, it looks like all 827 of them might be on…
- 1:13:59Tad Eggleston: the podcast portion, but I want to.
- 1:14:02ROYGBIV: Okay.
- 1:14:02Tad Eggleston: Can I pull up…
- 1:14:05ROYGBIV: YouTube numbers.
- 1:14:07Tad Eggleston: Yeah, I want… cause you know how, how, like…
- 1:14:14Tad Eggleston: You know how YouTube generally has a thing that says.
- 1:14:19Tad Eggleston: you know, I mean, we have no votes on our last issue.
- 1:14:23Tad Eggleston: episode, but I don't see a play… oh, zero comments, I don't see a play count.
- 1:14:28ROYGBIV: Okay.
- 1:14:29Tad Eggleston: And I wonder if that means it just hasn't been played.
- 1:14:33ROYGBIV: Maybe.
- 1:14:35Tad Eggleston: Oh, wait a minute, there's an analytics button. What does the analytics say?
- 1:14:40Tad Eggleston: Here we are, doing YouTube analytics in real time.
- 1:14:44Tad Eggleston: so, our last episode hasn't gotten any views since it was published.
- 1:14:50ROYGBIV: Okay.
- 1:14:50Tad Eggleston: on, like, Thursday.
- 1:14:52Tad Eggleston: So, so, yeah.
- 1:14:58Tad Eggleston: There doesn't seem to be a way to… yeah, I'll have to play with that at some point.
- 1:15:05Tad Eggleston: So yeah, this is where I remind everybody, like, follow us on… follow us on as many pod services as you use. Followers matter for the damn algorithm. Rate, review, all that stuff. Even if you say we're terrible, more reviews are good. More ratings are good, though 5-star ratings are WAY better.
- 1:15:26Tad Eggleston: Like, give me a 5-star rating and then tell me I'm shit. That's cool. I don't read the reviews.
- 1:15:35ROYGBIV: Just go ahead and do the radio, that's all I care about.
- 1:15:39Tad Eggleston: I mean, from an algorithmic standpoint, I think that's how it works.
- 1:15:42ROYGBIV: Yeah.
- 1:15:43ROYGBIV: just… Yeah, just give us the number.
- 1:15:46Tad Eggleston: Oh, and like, just because I happen to be on this subject, we do have a Patreon. It is allowed for people who aren't family members to give us money.
- 1:15:58Tad Eggleston: Right now, it still goes to Tyler.
- 1:16:00ROYGBIV: I, it's… it's accumulating into… it doesn't go to me, it goes to, the Patreon, and we can log in and transfer it to an account.
- 1:16:11Tad Eggleston: Oh, okay. Cool, cool.
- 1:16:12ROYGBIV: Yeah, it is not go… it does not go to me. Gotcha. Yeah, it… in the Patreon account, it's…
- 1:16:20Tad Eggleston: So you don't have it set up to auto, it's just there. Cool.
- 1:16:24ROYGBIV: Yeah, no, I am…
- 1:16:25Tad Eggleston: I'll look at eventually.
- 1:16:26ROYGBIV: I have not touched it, so it's whatever people have been paying for… since… I think…
- 1:16:32Tad Eggleston: $8 a month?
- 1:16:33ROYGBIV: Yep. Okay, so… You probably have…
- 1:16:37Tad Eggleston: That's our annual contributions from Andy?
- 1:16:40ROYGBIV: Yup, so you, you probably have a small, stockpile. Amount there, yeah.
- 1:16:47Tad Eggleston: Good to know, good to know.
- 1:16:48ROYGBIV: Yep.
- 1:16:50ROYGBIV: Art.
- 1:16:51ROYGBIV: So, let's move on to…
- 1:16:53Tad Eggleston: That's what I was about to say. Books, we hope, will be spectacular.
- 1:16:57ROYGBIV: Yeah, so I'm gonna piggyback on yours, because I also think your first two are gonna be great. I'm not into number three at all.
- 1:17:05Tad Eggleston: Not at all.
- 1:17:06ROYGBIV: I do not follow… okay, let's start with your number 3.
- 1:17:09Tad Eggleston: Okay. Bleeding Hearts and Dork, number 3.
- 1:17:13Tad Eggleston: Third issues are where Matt Fractions say things get going, and, like…
- 1:17:19Tad Eggleston: The first two issues of both of these have been great, so if the third issue's where the story really starts.
- 1:17:25Tad Eggleston: I am on board! So that's Bleeding Hearts, Dennis Camp and Stippy and Morian, and, Dork from Brett Bean.
- 1:17:33ROYGBIV: Yeah.
- 1:17:33Tad Eggleston: Godzilla Monster Piece Theater Presents Romeo and Juliet and Godzilla isn't on your list?
- 1:17:41ROYGBIV: I am not interested in any Godzilla stuff, so…
- 1:17:45Tad Eggleston: There has been some fucking great Godzilla stuff.
- 1:17:48ROYGBIV: I will have to read it. I have… it's in my store, I just…
- 1:17:51Tad Eggleston: I mean, you should, at the very least, read the Godzilla vs. America books.
- 1:17:56ROYGBIV: Okay.
- 1:17:57ROYGBIV: Yeah, I saw whatever city was the recent one.
- 1:18:01Tad Eggleston: Portland. It was great.
- 1:18:02ROYGBIV: Yep, okay.
- 1:18:04Tad Eggleston: It's fucking amazing.
- 1:18:06ROYGBIV: I just have never been a Godzilla fan, so I've never…
- 1:18:09Tad Eggleston: I haven't either.
- 1:18:10ROYGBIV: Yeah.
- 1:18:12Tad Eggleston: I haven't either.
- 1:18:13ROYGBIV: Okay.
- 1:18:14Tad Eggleston: like… The Tom Scholi backup story, and this is Godzilla and Robin Hood.
- 1:18:23ROYGBIV: Okay, okay.
- 1:18:24Tad Eggleston: I mean, we already had the Godzilla Monster Peace Theater, where it was Godzilla and Sherlock Holmes and Gatsby, and I forget who else.
- 1:18:33ROYGBIV: Yeah, you're right.
- 1:18:35Tad Eggleston: I mean, like, this is a different thing.
- 1:18:39Tad Eggleston: This is not… this is not our grandfather's Godzilla.
- 1:18:42ROYGBIV: Okay, okay, I will give it a whirl, I mean…
- 1:18:45Tad Eggleston: I mean, I would say, like, at the very least, I would hit…
- 1:18:52Tad Eggleston: I mean, I hate saying this, Godzilla Kansas City is, like, the weakest of the bunch, but it's really good.
- 1:18:59ROYGBIV: Alright.
- 1:19:00Tad Eggleston: Godzilla Chicago, Godzilla LA, Godzilla Boston, and Godzilla Portland are outstanding.
- 1:19:07ROYGBIV: Okay.
- 1:19:08Tad Eggleston: And I'm actually looking forward to Godzilla Texas, which is right around the corner.
- 1:19:15Tad Eggleston: So… but anyway, books I KNOW are spectacular… Yeah. The Quarter Maltese, Fable of Venice, and Other Adventures from Hugo Pratt is coming out from Phanographics.
- 1:19:26Tad Eggleston: Everyone Loves a Jewel Thief, number 1 from Tim Seeley, who will be appearing at Modern Age Comics on Free Comic Book Day, and Aaron Campbell from Ignition, and then, Neighborhood Watch number 1 from Sarah Gailey and Haining at Boom. So good.
- 1:19:44Tad Eggleston: So, yeah.
- 1:19:47ROYGBIV: I.
- 1:19:48Tad Eggleston: That's what I got.
- 1:19:49ROYGBIV: to all of that. And, that, collect…
- 1:19:55Tad Eggleston: Phil's not here for a Trade Raider graphic novel pick. Do you want to pick one?
- 1:19:59ROYGBIV: No. But I do want to go back. Everything Dead and Dying, I have my collection right here.
- 1:20:06Tad Eggleston: Well, there's your pick, everything dead and dying.
- 1:20:09ROYGBIV: Yes, Everything Dead and Dying, I have not been reading the series, so being able to read it in a collected edition has been something I'm looking forward to. I love the cover. It's very, like, a surreal, kind of Impressionist kind of artwork.
- 1:20:25Tad Eggleston: Well, and Jacob Phillips is just… Outstanding.
- 1:20:29ROYGBIV: I agree, he is outstanding at what he does, but what he does is usually not something that's, like, my cup of tea.
- 1:20:39ROYGBIV: So, but… Now, it's… sometimes it's just a little too, like… painterly?
- 1:20:48Tad Eggleston: Right?
- 1:20:49ROYGBIV: For, like, a comic book vibe for me.
- 1:20:51ROYGBIV: So, in no way am I saying I don't like Jacob Phillips' artwork.
- 1:20:55Tad Eggleston: I mean, he definitely does painted cover covers, but I think he does emotions and acting better than most people who
- 1:21:05Tad Eggleston: Paint there, because he draws first and then paints.
- 1:21:09ROYGBIV: Yeah.
- 1:21:10Tad Eggleston: So, so it's like…
- 1:21:11Tad Eggleston: I mean, I guess everybody draws first and then paints, but he's not going for photorealism most of the time.
- 1:21:18ROYGBIV: No, no, no, definitely not.
- 1:21:19ROYGBIV: He's good… it's definitely more of a, like… especially on the cover of this, it's very… impressionistic, almost. Yeah.
- 1:21:27Tad Eggleston: I know.
- 1:21:28ROYGBIV: I gotta look at where it's at, but… Yeah, so that would be my… my trade waiter, because I definitely have trade.
- 1:21:34Tad Eggleston: Oh, yeah, no, it… I… I… I actually need to finish it still. I think I've read the first 3 issues?
- 1:21:41ROYGBIV: Okay.
- 1:21:41Tad Eggleston: But it was so good.
- 1:21:43ROYGBIV: And then, out of your honorable mentions, Pretty Hate Machine is a high amount.
- 1:21:51Tad Eggleston: daily.
- 1:21:52ROYGBIV: Yep. And then Star Trek Lower Decks, I have… I love that.
- 1:21:55Tad Eggleston: book.
- 1:21:56ROYGBIV: I have been reading it because it's, you know, just, like, more humor than more Star Trek, you know what I mean? So, it's not that hard to get into, because it's silly, and…
- 1:22:07Tad Eggleston: that book.
- 1:22:08ROYGBIV: Yeah.
- 1:22:09ROYGBIV: The cartoon is also good, I heard.
- 1:22:12Tad Eggleston: I didn't, I didn't manage to actually,
- 1:22:16Tad Eggleston: talked to Tim Sheridan, because he was never at his table when I was over visiting, Chris Condon and Zach
- 1:22:23Tad Eggleston: Zach Kaplan had tables right next to each other, so I was over there, relatively often, but Tim was never… either never at his table or never at his table and free, but I wanted to give him, like, a major…
- 1:22:35Tad Eggleston: Hat tip for… for… Star Trek Lower Decks, because not only is it fantastic, but, like.
- 1:22:46Tad Eggleston: He took over for Ryan North, who had killed it.
- 1:22:49Tad Eggleston: And that's not… That's not an easy assignment, to take over from Ryan North on a humor book.
- 1:22:58ROYGBIV: No, and Ryan North was perfect for that job.
- 1:23:02Tad Eggleston: Right, right.
- 1:23:03ROYGBIV: But, but…
- 1:23:05Tad Eggleston: Ryan North and Erica Henderson have a fantastic story in Mad About DC.
- 1:23:12ROYGBIV: They do? Okay, I'll have to check it out. Yeah, yeah. They have a long history of writing and drawing together, and it always turns out really.
- 1:23:21Tad Eggleston: I got… I got to… I got to hang with… er, well, not hang with, I talked to Erica Henderson at her booth for a while, too.
- 1:23:27Tad Eggleston: Okay.
- 1:23:29Tad Eggleston: She was another person that I got to see Spike Trotman geek with, because it was the first time they were meeting.
- 1:23:35Tad Eggleston: But they have enough of an online relationship that they both recognized each other. Well… Spike was…
- 1:23:41Tad Eggleston: knew who she was going to see, but Erica immediately recognized Spike. Apparently, Erica has encouraged Spike into various things like knitting and whatnot, because Erica's always showing off her…
- 1:23:55Tad Eggleston: knitting and embroidery projects. Remember, right before we had her on, she'd done the, 22 Panels Cookies?
- 1:24:03ROYGBIV: Yeah.
- 1:24:05Tad Eggleston: This is one of the things that I love, is, like, the creative people who, like.
- 1:24:11Tad Eggleston: Okay, I'm done with my day job of drawing, so I'm gonna go embroider.
- 1:24:15ROYGBIV: Yeah.
- 1:24:16Tad Eggleston: I'm gonna go make… I'm gonna go make cookies that… that… that are… are…
- 1:24:21Tad Eggleston: are of the 22 panels, or…
- 1:24:25ROYGBIV: Yeah.
- 1:24:26Tad Eggleston: You know, the people who just have so much creativity in their bones that, like, Even their downtime?
- 1:24:34Tad Eggleston: Is more creative stuff.
- 1:24:38Tad Eggleston: That's just… that's… that's cool.
- 1:24:41ROYGBIV: Yeah.
- 1:24:43ROYGBIV: Alright, well, I would like to mosey on to.
- 1:24:47Tad Eggleston: It's that time.
- 1:24:47ROYGBIV: You're the one that closes?
- 1:24:48Tad Eggleston: The episode, dude.
- 1:24:50ROYGBIV: I'm just waiting.
- 1:24:50Tad Eggleston: for you.
- 1:24:51ROYGBIV: So, I am going to close it out. It has been fun, Ted. This is like a step back to what we were doing a few years ago. But I do miss Phil. He adds a certain je ne sais quoi to the conversation. So, we will hopefully be back as a trio next week.
- 1:25:10ROYGBIV: But…
- 1:25:12Tad Eggleston: or Copra.
- 1:25:13ROYGBIV: Yeah. Until then… oh, that's right, we gotta go back to Copra. Remember to read it. Until then, guys, we'll catch you after the next page.
- 1:25:22ROYGBIV: Video!
