Latest / Foul Territory / Josh Nelson on the White Sox ugly ALDS exit, Revisiting Braves trading away William Contreras
Transcript
- 0:12Speaker 1: All right, this is where we put a team to bed,
- 0:14Speaker 1: and now we have time to do it. It's the
- 0:16Speaker 1: Chicago White Sox.
- 0:17Speaker 2: I got to go, guys.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Watch the Guardians take the first game of the ALCS
- 0:21Speaker 1: that they felt like they should.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Have been a part of.
- 0:23Speaker 1: AJ Pruszynski is going to take over.
- 0:25Speaker 3: I got to go.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Josh Nelson, you can hear him on the Sox machine.
- 0:29Speaker 1: There's nowhere to go. You are strapped to your chair, AJ,
- 0:32Speaker 1: and you get first question.
- 0:34Speaker 3: This is your therapy session.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Ask Josh whatever you would like, AJ, first.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Why didn't they make an adjustment?
- 0:44Speaker 2: I mean, I'm sure you saw what I said yesterday,
- 0:46Speaker 2: but was there no adjustments to be made in game five?
- 0:50Speaker 2: They struck out 50 times in the last two games.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Or 40 times, sorry. Was there no adjustment to be
- 0:57Speaker 2: made anywhere, or is that just the way guys are
- 1:00Speaker 2: now with their swing? They have the one swing, and
- 1:03Speaker 2: if they hit it, they hit it, and if they don't,
- 1:05Speaker 2: they don't.
- 1:06Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a good question, AJ. And this is going
- 1:09Speaker 4: to be something directed to Ryan Fuller, the director of
- 1:11Speaker 4: hitting for the Chicago White Sox. For those that remember,
- 1:14Speaker 4: Ryan Fuller used to be the co-hitting coach for the
- 1:17Speaker 4: Baltimore Orioles, a very successful offense while he was the
- 1:21Speaker 4: co-hitting coach there for three seasons. And then all of
- 1:23Speaker 4: a sudden his last year, the Orioles stopped hitting in
- 1:26Speaker 4: the month of September and they were swept by the
- 1:28Speaker 4: Royals in two games of the wildcard series in which
- 1:31Speaker 4: they only scored one run total for a very talented team.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Orioles team.
- 1:37Speaker 4: And for this White Sox team, they led the American
- 1:40Speaker 4: League in runs scored. They hit more than 200 home runs.
- 1:43Speaker 4: So to a point, Ryan Fuller's plan in helping develop
- 1:46Speaker 4: the White Sox hitters has been working. Now, game-to-game basis
- 1:51Speaker 4: in the American League Division Series, it's clear after game two,
- 1:55Speaker 4: the Cleveland Guardians made the adjustment. And I think that adjustment,
- 1:59Speaker 4: I'm working on this feature right now for SoxMachine.com, Taking
- 2:03Speaker 4: the data from baseball savant, AJ, and look at the
- 2:06Speaker 4: stack cast data, this whiff rate and strikeout rate numbers
- 2:11Speaker 4: for the Chicago white socks are very scary. The white
- 2:15Speaker 4: socks ranked last in major league baseball and strikeout rate
- 2:19Speaker 4: on fastballs greater than 96 miles an hour. And they
- 2:22Speaker 4: ranked last in In batting average hitting two Oh five
- 2:27Speaker 4: Munataka Murakami with 45% of the time on fastballs that
- 2:32Speaker 4: were 96 or greater Colson Montgomery, 39%. Colson Montgomery struck
- 2:38Speaker 4: out 48% of the time on a fastball that was
- 2:42Speaker 4: 96 or greater. The reason I picked 96 is that
- 2:47Speaker 4: Eric and AJ, you guys have been talking about how
- 2:49Speaker 4: fastball velocities continue to increase in major league baseball. And
- 2:53Speaker 4: for right-handed pitchers, they're getting really close to making that
- 2:56Speaker 4: their average fastball velocity. When you have these poor of
- 3:00Speaker 4: fastball numbers for your big boppers in Montgomery, Murakami, and
- 3:06Speaker 4: even Miguel Vargas only batted 155 against these types of fastballs,
- 3:11Speaker 4: this is where you get exposed, especially when you're facing
- 3:15Speaker 4: pitchers like Gavin Williams. So this will be an off-season
- 3:18Speaker 4: task and homework assignment for For Ryan Fuller and the
- 3:21Speaker 4: Chicago White Sox hitters, how do we fare better against
- 3:25Speaker 4: elite velocity? Because this number on the average fastball velocity
- 3:30Speaker 4: is only increasing in Major League Baseball.
- 3:33Speaker 5: But what I mean, before we get to my question,
- 3:37Speaker 5: the league average on fastballs over 96 is what?
- 3:40Speaker 3: Did you do you have that research?
- 3:42Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a 235 batting average and the slugging percentage
- 3:46Speaker 4: is 365. The Cleveland Guardians would be an example, Eric,
- 3:51Speaker 4: on a Major League Baseball team that's average against that
- 3:54Speaker 4: type of fastball velocity.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Okay, so a team that doesn't hit very well. We
- 4:00Speaker 3: knew this.
- 4:01Speaker 5: We knew this going into the season about Murakami. Colson
- 4:05Speaker 5: Montgomery obviously broke records. So when you look at it
- 4:09Speaker 5: as a whole, you build your team as a whole,
- 4:13Speaker 5: was this team or is this team able to keep
- 4:16Speaker 5: the pieces that they have here on this roster and
- 4:20Speaker 5: add in, or is there going to be elimination of
- 4:23Speaker 5: pieces that showed they're not making adjustments? Cause that's really
- 4:27Speaker 5: what the post season is about. There are a lot
- 4:29Speaker 5: of teams that are not in it anymore. Didn't make adjustments.
- 4:33Speaker 5: The Yankees didn't make adjustments. The Astros were how they were.
- 4:39Speaker 5: And you have, you know, you have teams that are
- 4:42Speaker 5: in it that have made adjustments. Can this team make
- 4:45Speaker 5: adjustments with who they have adding in pieces?
- 4:49Speaker 4: That's a great question. And this is something we're going
- 4:51Speaker 4: to learn this offseason. What makes this so tricky is
- 4:54Speaker 4: this incoming MLB lockout. And you guys know this better
- 4:59Speaker 4: than I do. So many hitters today just have their
- 5:02Speaker 4: own private hitting coaches. I think a large group of
- 5:05Speaker 4: White Sox hitters are going to be meeting up in
- 5:07Speaker 4: Nashville over the offseason working together. At that hitting lab
- 5:12Speaker 4: to continue to make adjustments. So what do they do
- 5:15Speaker 4: away from Ryan Fuller and White Sox hitting coach Derek Showman?
- 5:20Speaker 4: That's going to be the key this offseason when the
- 5:23Speaker 4: league does. And I do believe is going to enter
- 5:25Speaker 4: at a lockout and team facilities are going to be
- 5:27Speaker 4: closed for them. until there is a new CBA. So
- 5:30Speaker 4: this is a great question. Like, what adjustments can you make?
- 5:33Speaker 4: Can you incorporate new types of swings to help lower
- 5:37Speaker 4: your strikeout rate and your whiff rate against the lead velocity? Now,
- 5:40Speaker 4: from a team construction point, Eric, I think for Chris Getz,
- 5:44Speaker 4: he needs to identify, try to find better balance. The
- 5:47Speaker 4: guys who have pretty good numbers against this type of
- 5:50Speaker 4: lead velocity is not a surprise. It's Sam Antonacci and
- 5:53Speaker 4: Tristan Peters. they don't have these big home run swings.
- 5:57Speaker 4: They have shorter compact swings. And we saw that in
- 6:02Speaker 4: game five against Gavin Williams, which Antonacci did not strike out.
- 6:06Speaker 4: He put the ball in play four times. And I
- 6:09Speaker 4: think it's a matter of trying to find that balance
- 6:11Speaker 4: where maybe you can get away with two or three
- 6:14Speaker 4: guys who have longer swings that you're hoping to produce power.
- 6:18Speaker 4: But if you only have two guys that have short
- 6:20Speaker 4: strokes in your lineup and you can only be confident,
- 6:23Speaker 4: they can put the ball in play. That's where you
- 6:25Speaker 4: get exposed in a postseason setting where you strike out
- 6:28Speaker 4: 21 times.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Hey, everybody.
- 6:32Speaker 2: It's the best time of the year for sports right now.

- 6:55Speaker 2: need it for baseball. I got that gold card. But

- 7:31Speaker 2: Josh, Miguel Vargas had an unbelievable year for the White
- 7:35Speaker 2: Sox this year. Also, what you didn't mention is the
- 7:37Speaker 2: Guardians just didn't pitch to him. They were just like,
- 7:39Speaker 2: you know what? Yeah, he hit the home run late
- 7:42Speaker 2: when the game was kind of out of hand. But
- 7:44Speaker 2: other than that, I think they walked him nine times
- 7:45Speaker 2: in five games. They basically said, we don't believe Murakami,
- 7:48Speaker 2: Ben Attendee, whoever's hitting behind you can do anything. Is
- 7:52Speaker 2: this a strategy for opponents of the White Sox going forward?
- 7:54Speaker 2: It's kind of like, why does anybody ever pitch to
- 7:57Speaker 2: Jose Ramirez? I mean, I'll take my chances with Chase
- 8:00Speaker 2: DeLauder over Jose Ramirez. And I know he hit a
- 8:02Speaker 2: ball two inches off the ground, nine inches off the
- 8:04Speaker 2: ground for a home run. But is this the new
- 8:06Speaker 2: strategy against the White Sox is just don't pitch to
- 8:08Speaker 2: Miguel Vargas, walk him and try just make Murakami beat you?
- 8:13Speaker 4: That could be the strategy early. And you raise a
- 8:15Speaker 4: good point, AJ, like how are teams going to attack
- 8:18Speaker 4: Miguel Vargas? Can we just put Miguel Vargas down for
- 8:21Speaker 4: 100 walks next year? Because he might be pitched around
- 8:25Speaker 4: more times than not. And then it becomes a question
- 8:28Speaker 4: of lineup construction for the Chicago White Sox and how
- 8:31Speaker 4: Will Venable tries to place Miguel Vargas. We saw it
- 8:34Speaker 4: sometimes this year, AJ, in which Vargas batted leadoff against
- 8:39Speaker 4: a left-handed starting pitcher. For the Chicago White Sox. Could
- 8:42Speaker 4: we see that more often? Yeah, he needs a better
- 8:46Speaker 4: running mate behind him. And this is where, again, Murakami,
- 8:50Speaker 4: there's definitely some success this season. But in his first
- 8:54Speaker 4: year in the major leagues, I think everyone that does
- 8:57Speaker 4: this type of analysis. And I want to say we're
- 8:59Speaker 4: trying to be constructive for Murakami because it is a
- 9:02Speaker 4: big change to go from Japan into the major leagues.
- 9:06Speaker 4: He needs time and he deserves to have time. to
- 9:08Speaker 4: make those adjustments and work with his private hitting coach
- 9:11Speaker 4: just to be better against fastball velocity. But if he
- 9:14Speaker 4: doesn't improve on these numbers, then he's not a great
- 9:17Speaker 4: line of protection behind Miguel Vargas. And I know some
- 9:19Speaker 4: would counter and say that line of protection is a
- 9:23Speaker 4: fallacy that doesn't really exist. We saw it in this postseason.
- 9:27Speaker 4: The guardians would have been more than happy to load
- 9:29Speaker 4: the bases, walking Miguel Vargas and face Murakami, despite the
- 9:33Speaker 4: power threat. they were just not afraid to throw fastballs
- 9:37Speaker 4: in the strike zone against Mutataka Murakami. So for Murakami,
- 9:41Speaker 4: he left a lot of meat on the bone, even
- 9:42Speaker 4: though he had 35 homers and he might be a
- 9:45Speaker 4: 40 home run hitter in the major leagues just because
- 9:48Speaker 4: he's so strong. But to be an elite hitter, he
- 9:52Speaker 4: needs to do a better job against pitches in the
- 9:55Speaker 4: strike zone. So if Murakami can improve upon that, then
- 9:58Speaker 4: maybe Vargas next year AJ, does get more to hit.
- 10:01Speaker 4: But if Murakami doesn't improve on that, then Miguel Vargas
- 10:06Speaker 4: is going to get walked a lot in 2027.
- 10:09Speaker 5: Oh, don't forget, everybody gets a year older, so they
- 10:12Speaker 5: just get a year better, too. Thank you, Josh Harris,
- 10:15Speaker 5: for telling us that. But here's a question from somebody
- 10:18Speaker 5: that we haven't heard from since he fired AJ from
- 10:21Speaker 5: the front office. We heard from Jerry. Uncle Jerry was like,
- 10:26Speaker 5: we're having a good time. This is great. I love this.
- 10:28Speaker 5: This is so much fun. Is he going to pay
- 10:31Speaker 5: for the things that you've laid out? Innings and protections.
- 10:37Speaker 5: And maybe we're not done talking about this postseason. Maybe
- 10:40Speaker 5: it's too soon. Maybe the cap, all this contract negotiation.
- 10:44Speaker 5: But those two things that you're saying, protection and innings,
- 10:49Speaker 5: cost cash. They did not think they were going to
- 10:51Speaker 5: be here this year. They did it on the cheap.
- 10:54Speaker 5: Now is Uncle Jerry going to still keep having fun?
- 11:00Speaker 3: We'll see.
- 11:01Speaker 4: Here's my fear, Eric, is that with the White Sox
- 11:03Speaker 4: acquiring Luis Castillo at the trade deadline, that would be
- 11:06Speaker 4: Jerry Reinsdorf saying, well, we found a front-end starting pitcher.
- 11:10Speaker 4: That's why we traded for Luis Castillo. And White Sox
- 11:13Speaker 4: fans are not going to go with that. The one
- 11:16Speaker 4: guy that I would really like to see, I think
- 11:19Speaker 4: it's a no-brainer. The Rays should pick up Drew Rasmussen's
- 11:23Speaker 4: club option for the 2027 season. I say it's only
- 11:26Speaker 4: $ 20 million, but for the type of production that Rasmussen
- 11:29Speaker 4: has provided to the race starting rotation, that's pretty cheap.
- 11:34Speaker 4: If the rays continue to not want to spend money
- 11:37Speaker 4: on their own players and Rasmussen becomes a free agent,
- 11:40Speaker 4: I would love that to be a target for the
- 11:41Speaker 4: white socks in which I think drew Rasmussen can help
- 11:44Speaker 4: Sean Burke lead the starting rotation.
- 11:47Speaker 3: But you're right. Like if they.
- 11:49Speaker 4: Don't spend the money in this off season to, uh,
- 11:52Speaker 4: take advantage of this opportunity being a year ahead of
- 11:54Speaker 4: schedule to help an 84 win team to become a
- 11:58Speaker 4: 90 or better team in 2027, then White Sox fans,
- 12:03Speaker 4: they're going to feel pretty jaded going into next season.
- 12:07Speaker 4: I mean, it's already not going to be a fun
- 12:09Speaker 4: off season because everyone's worried about the lockout, but November
- 12:12Speaker 4: should be busy for major league baseball. I think we're
- 12:15Speaker 4: going to see another mad dash of free agent signings
- 12:19Speaker 4: before the December 1st at 11 p.m. Central time, when
- 12:23Speaker 4: the lockout gets engaged by Major League Baseball, are the
- 12:27Speaker 4: White Sox going to be active? Last time this happened,
- 12:30Speaker 4: they were kind of active. They signed one player to
- 12:33Speaker 4: a deal, and that was Lurie Garcia to a three-year contract.
- 12:38Speaker 4: And that didn't really exactly pan out for the Chicago
- 12:40Speaker 4: White Sox. If they sit out in November and they
- 12:44Speaker 4: wait until there's a new CBA before they decide on
- 12:47Speaker 4: how much money they're going to spend in the offseason, Man,
- 12:50Speaker 4: I don't see that being a good thing for the organization,
- 12:54Speaker 4: and fans are not going to tolerate that. They should
- 12:56Speaker 4: be active in the month of November before the lockout
- 12:59Speaker 4: begins and trying to find help to build a better
- 13:02Speaker 4: team in 2027.

- 14:07Speaker 3: I love this. All right. Yeah. Okay.
- 14:11Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 14:12Speaker 2: You disagree, H.J.? No, I totally agree with everything you said.
- 14:17Speaker 3: I'm just going off the long history of what has
- 14:20Speaker 3: been there.
- 14:21Speaker 2: And I love Jerry, and I think he's a great guy,
- 14:25Speaker 2: and he's a special place in my heart. But saying that,
- 14:31Speaker 2: Luis Castillo was their big spend. He's costing them $ 23 million.
- 14:37Speaker 2: They couldn't pitch him the last month and a half
- 14:40Speaker 2: of the season. That's why that trade made no sense
- 14:45Speaker 2: to anybody. The Mariners were like, we'll make this trade.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Hell yeah, and you're going to pick up the whole salary?
- 14:52Speaker 2: Hell yeah, see ya. Like, he couldn't pitch in Seattle. Remember,
- 14:56Speaker 2: they were piggybacking him because they couldn't get him in
- 14:58Speaker 2: the rotation. He's not the Luis Castillo he was four
- 15:01Speaker 2: or five years ago. I'm sorry, Luis Castillo, you're a
- 15:04Speaker 2: really nice guy. You've been a rock. That's your nickname
- 15:07Speaker 2: is The Rock. But right now, you were unpitchable, and
- 15:10Speaker 2: the White Sox told you that when they put you
- 15:12Speaker 2: on the IL right before the playoffs after they– tried
- 15:16Speaker 2: for a while and it didn't happen because he said no.
- 15:19Speaker 3: So that was their big expenditure. And that's where I
- 15:24Speaker 3: think the thing that.
- 15:26Speaker 2: As much as you want to try to fix the offense,
- 15:28Speaker 2: you can't go into a postseason series and say, we
- 15:31Speaker 2: have one starting pitcher. It's Sean Burke. You have to
- 15:34Speaker 2: find some other starting pitchers. You can't run, not a
- 15:37Speaker 2: knock on these guys, Hagan Smith. opener three out of
- 15:41Speaker 2: four games. Sean Newcomb opener all the time, right? Anthony Kaye,
- 15:44Speaker 2: who's been a starting pitcher, let's make him an opener
- 15:46Speaker 2: in the playoffs. Have him pitch two-thirds of an inning, right?
- 15:49Speaker 2: You've got to find a way to get more pitching,
- 15:52Speaker 2: and I don't know if that comes through the organization
- 15:55Speaker 2: or if it comes through free agency. Usually at this stage,
- 15:57Speaker 2: you go out and you buy a really good starting
- 15:59Speaker 2: pitcher or two, and it helps you take the next step.
- 16:01Speaker 3: I hate to bring it up, White Sox fans.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Cubs went out and got John Lester and John Lackey,
- 16:06Speaker 2: and you know what it did? It took them to
- 16:08Speaker 2: the next level, and it got them a World Series.
- 16:10Speaker 2: Because they had the young core of position players with
- 16:12Speaker 2: Rizzo and Bryan and all those guys, and then wham,
- 16:15Speaker 2: they finished it off with pitching. If you're good at
- 16:17Speaker 2: developing hitters, you've got to go get pitching. If you're
- 16:20Speaker 2: really good at developing pitching, then you've got to go
- 16:22Speaker 2: get hitters. But I just don't know if they're going
- 16:24Speaker 2: to do that because it requires cash.
- 16:30Speaker 4: Yeah, and that's why it's pretty skeptical going into next year.
- 16:33Speaker 4: And what also concerns me, AJ, is some of the
- 16:36Speaker 4: comments that manager Will Venable has been making about his
- 16:39Speaker 4: experience at Texas and nothing is guaranteed for the 2027 season.
- 16:44Speaker 4: And I think he's coming from a perspective of we
- 16:46Speaker 4: still need to continue to develop. We still have work
- 16:48Speaker 4: to do. to get better. We can't rest on our laurels,
- 16:52Speaker 4: but it also sounds a little bit like a canary
- 16:54Speaker 4: in the coal mine that while this season was fun,
- 16:57Speaker 4: there's no guarantee we're going to be a winning team
- 16:59Speaker 4: because the Texas Rangers, after winning the world series, they
- 17:02Speaker 4: weren't a winning team the following year. So that has
- 17:06Speaker 4: me a little bit concerned hearing that from the white
- 17:08Speaker 4: Sox manager, Will Venable and what to expect in 2027.
- 17:12Speaker 4: Could there be regression?
- 17:14Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 17:15Speaker 4: For multiple players. Am I worried about the pitching development
- 17:18Speaker 4: of this organization?
- 17:19Speaker 3: Yes.
- 17:20Speaker 4: I can't name you the Charlotte Knights pitching roster. I
- 17:24Speaker 4: don't know who's available in AAA that can come up.
- 17:27Speaker 4: White Sox fans continue to mention Drew Thorpe. Drew Thorpe just,
- 17:31Speaker 4: he throws 91. What did I just say about fastball
- 17:34Speaker 4: velocity in Major League Baseball? It continues to increase to 96.
- 17:38Speaker 4: That is a 35 to 40 grade on the scouting
- 17:40Speaker 4: scale fastball velocity. So Drew Thorpe needs to find some
- 17:44Speaker 4: extra ticks to have more confidence in his ability to
- 17:47Speaker 4: help on the starting rotation. Hagan Smith has control issues.
- 17:50Speaker 4: Noah Schultz had control issues. They have some work to
- 17:53Speaker 4: do in this offseason. There's so much uncertainty around that, AJ,
- 17:57Speaker 4: I really feel like if they added certainty to your
- 18:00Speaker 4: point and spent some cash in free agency to get
- 18:03Speaker 4: a Drew Rasmussen or a veteran starting pitcher that you
- 18:06Speaker 4: know that you can count on for 150 plus innings.
- 18:09Speaker 3: Josh, hold on.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Josh, I'm going to cut you off. Drew Rasmussen ain't
- 18:12Speaker 2: going to the White Sox. They won't make the trade.
- 18:14Speaker 2: They value the prospects now too much. They're not going
- 18:17Speaker 2: to make a trade. And Drew Rasmussen, after his performance
- 18:19Speaker 2: this year, if he does it free, there's no way
- 18:22Speaker 2: the Rays don't pick up his option, by the way.
- 18:24Speaker 2: but there's no way that the White Sox are going
- 18:27Speaker 2: to outbid other teams that need starting pitching.
- 18:30Speaker 3: That's just the way they've been.
- 18:33Speaker 4: Well, then it's hard to not be skeptical about the
- 18:36Speaker 4: White Sox future moving forward. That's what needs to change
- 18:39Speaker 4: with this organization. And a lot of White Sox fans
- 18:42Speaker 4: are hoping this is where Justin Ishbia comes into play.
- 18:46Speaker 4: Does Ishbia infuse this team with the cash necessary to
- 18:51Speaker 4: make them better? That is a lingering question.
- 18:54Speaker 3: Move it to a bigger market. Yeah, exactly. Small market.
- 19:01Speaker 3: I say the same thing. Yeah, I say the same
- 19:03Speaker 3: thing about the Mets.
- 19:05Speaker 1: The Mets in New York, since the Yankees make more
- 19:07Speaker 1: money and they've got more of the history, got to
- 19:09Speaker 1: move them to a bigger market. Maybe there's some international market.
- 19:11Speaker 3: By the way, White Sox fans came out.
- 19:13Speaker 2: You cannot– and by the way, I don't know what
- 19:15Speaker 2: the ratings are, but I know everyone I talk to
- 19:17Speaker 2: watched like every game. And White Sox fans– If you
- 19:20Speaker 2: put a good team on the field that's fun to watch,
- 19:23Speaker 2: they will come out.
- 19:25Speaker 3: It is amazing.
- 19:25Speaker 2: If they have guys that they like and play hard
- 19:28Speaker 2: and go about it the way the White Sox fans
- 19:30Speaker 2: think you should do it, they will show up and
- 19:32Speaker 2: they will show out.
- 19:33Speaker 1: And we got to jump. But, yes, they showed up big.
- 19:36Speaker 1: And they still will. That's why Sox Machine does so well.
- 19:38Speaker 1: It's part of the FT Network. And you can listen
- 19:40Speaker 1: to Josh and company breaking down what they're going to
- 19:43Speaker 1: do in the off season. AJ makes some appearances when
- 19:46Speaker 1: you need the therapy session, subscribe to it. Bottom right
- 19:48Speaker 1: corner of your screen is the QR code. If you're
- 19:50Speaker 1: lazy and you want to click it there, Josh, thank you, man.
- 19:52Speaker 3: We'll talk soon. Okay.
- 19:53Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 19:54Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Hey, Scott Coleman, who is a smart man from hammer territory,
- 19:59Speaker 1: put this tweet out there with six figure impressions and
- 20:02Speaker 1: views on it. Every GM is going to have a
- 20:03Speaker 1: deal they'd like to do over, especially after nearly a
- 20:05Speaker 1: decade in office. But Alex Anthopoulos trading a young, cheap,
- 20:08Speaker 1: controlled William Contreras was just brutal. Imagine his right-handed bat
- 20:12Speaker 1: in the middle of the Braves lineup. That's fine. That's fair, AJ.
- 20:17Speaker 1: I hate this tweet.
- 20:18Speaker 3: I hate this tweet. He's made plenty of good moves.
- 20:22Speaker 2: I hate this tweet. Because you know why? What year
- 20:24Speaker 2: did William Contreras get traded? Who did they have as
- 20:28Speaker 2: catcher when he got traded? That's my question.
- 20:33Speaker 3: I don't know. I'm going to look it up. Okay.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Sean Murphy was coming off of what?
- 20:39Speaker 2: For the GCL Braves 2016, where I played with them.
- 20:45Speaker 2: After the 22, the Braves sent Contreras to the Brewers
- 20:48Speaker 2: in a trade, which the Braves acquired Sean Murphy.
- 20:51Speaker 3: Okay.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Here's the thing about Contreras. The Brewers do something that
- 20:55Speaker 2: I don't know how they do it. They've done it
- 20:56Speaker 2: to catcher after catcher after catcher. They made catchers better.
- 20:59Speaker 2: And I know for a fact, because I've seen it
- 21:01Speaker 2: on TV, They give them the numbers sometimes for pitch calling.
- 21:06Speaker 2: You can see it on TV sometimes. They'll cut over
- 21:08Speaker 2: the dugout, and you'll see a guy go, two, three, one, five, seven, nine,
- 21:11Speaker 2: and they'll go, ooh, okay. Oh, I need to call
- 21:13Speaker 2: this pitch. They're suggestions, okay? But the Braves didn't think
- 21:17Speaker 2: he could catch on an everyday basis. That's why they
- 21:19Speaker 2: got rid of him.
- 21:20Speaker 3: They didn't think he could do it. They sent him
- 21:21Speaker 3: to Milwaukee.
- 21:22Speaker 2: They got Sean Murphy, who, by the way, the year
- 21:25Speaker 2: they got Sean Murphy was like the best catcher in
- 21:27Speaker 2: baseball that year. So, meaning with the year, the first
- 21:29Speaker 2: year with the Braves, now he's been hurt for year
- 21:31Speaker 2: after year after year, okay? So they didn't think that
- 21:33Speaker 2: he could be their everyday catcher. Sorry, that's why they
- 21:35Speaker 2: made the trade.
