- 0:14Speaker 2: is my son. Can't you gotta work? Y Son?
- 0:18Speaker 3: Another mile from talking Dogs day line, don't talk.
- 0:21Speaker 2: You gotta work.
- 0:23Speaker 4: Welcome to Let's Talk with Carl Lee. Let's talk is
- 0:26Speaker 4: probably presented by Attorney Frank Walker, Real Talk, real experience,
- 0:30Speaker 4: real results, Frank Walker Law dot Com. Let that conversation
- 0:34Speaker 4: begin on Let's talk.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Hello, ladies and gentlemen. This is curly with let's talk.
- 0:41Speaker 3: And I have in the building.
- 0:44Speaker 5: Me.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Yes, as soon as I can get her fired or
- 0:48Speaker 3: stop her from coming, that's probably what'll have to happen.
- 0:51Speaker 2: I'll have to stop her from coming.
- 0:53Speaker 3: But miss Odie lis Odie's in the building, and uh,
- 0:57Speaker 3: it's just the two of.
- 0:58Speaker 5: Us, todays no less. The audience is hard for that
- 1:02Speaker 5: right ahead of tom.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Yeah, there could there could be some fighting going on.
- 1:08Speaker 5: Let me let me just clarify to the audience what happened,
- 1:10Speaker 5: because we were waiting to come on and we were
- 1:13Speaker 5: talking about tomorrow. It is Saint Patrick's day, okay, And
- 1:17Speaker 5: Carl states, that's right, I don't think I have any
- 1:20Speaker 5: green and so being a good conscientious friend, being the
- 1:24Speaker 5: person that I am offered to bring him a packer
- 1:28Speaker 5: or some packer gear to wear tomorrow, so you know
- 1:32Speaker 5: he doesn't get pinched or whatever the things the consequences
- 1:35Speaker 5: are for not wearing green. See, I was thinking of you,
- 1:37Speaker 5: and you only, but.
- 1:38Speaker 2: You could have you could have fight about like Marshall.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Well not, that's why, that's why your job is always on.
- 1:51Speaker 5: Oh goodness, all right, let's go.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Well, you know what.
- 1:57Speaker 3: We've got a we've got like a like you've got
- 1:59Speaker 3: women in basketball, like like we're in a stage now
- 2:03Speaker 3: where I think most and I'm gonna say sports fans,
- 2:08Speaker 3: not just basketball fans, but I think sports fans love
- 2:13Speaker 3: this time of year when you have all these basketball
- 2:16Speaker 3: tournaments going all over the place. Yeah, so at least
- 2:20Speaker 3: I think you have dived into that a little bit.
- 2:23Speaker 5: Yeah. I thought maybe we would talk a little bit
- 2:25Speaker 5: about March madness in general before we started talking about
- 2:29Speaker 5: specific schools that are enjoying a tournament bid coming this
- 2:33Speaker 5: weekend and really starting tomorrow. I think a lot of
- 2:36Speaker 5: the playing games again, so lots of basketball to take in.
- 2:40Speaker 5: But I was just curious, you know, for you, Carl,
- 2:45Speaker 5: do you are you into March madness. I mean, it
- 2:48Speaker 5: seems to me a lot of people either love it
- 2:50Speaker 5: or they're just kind of indifferent to it.
- 2:52Speaker 3: I'm the no, I don't really I'm not like a
- 2:56Speaker 3: dive into all of it, like I'm you know, some
- 2:59Speaker 3: of they'll say, Okay, such and such a loss, such
- 3:01Speaker 3: and such one. I'm more likely to wait until you
- 3:05Speaker 3: get to the end and then let's see who's playing
- 3:08Speaker 3: in the championship.
- 3:09Speaker 2: I'm more of that guy.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Yeah, and again I think that's just because of my
- 3:13Speaker 3: sports background, you know, results. Yeah, I just want the
- 3:17Speaker 3: end result, who actually is going to actually win the tournaments.
- 3:20Speaker 5: Yeah. So I'm kind of the opposite of you. I
- 3:23Speaker 5: like the beginning games because I like to watch the
- 3:25Speaker 5: smaller schools, you know, the David and Goliath types of matchups,
- 3:29Speaker 5: and see the Cinderella stories come out of that.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Well, I do love vote Yeah, I do love those too.
- 3:34Speaker 5: Yeah. So that's pretty cool, and you know, just the
- 3:37Speaker 5: whole I think the whole vibe of it is. You know,
- 3:39Speaker 5: it's it's high stakes, it's single elimination. You know, you
- 3:43Speaker 5: either either win and live another day or you go
- 3:46Speaker 5: home with a loss. I just think it's a great
- 3:50Speaker 5: time of year. I was thinking back to, you know,
- 3:52Speaker 5: some of our state memories that were related to March Madness,
- 3:55Speaker 5: and you might remember these. I'm gonna take everybody back
- 3:57Speaker 5: in the day for a second, But I was thinking
- 4:00Speaker 5: about Jared West. Remember Jared that coaches for Best Virginia.
- 4:03Speaker 5: We had him on here on the show before and
- 4:05Speaker 5: him him making and I saw the video and if
- 4:08Speaker 5: people haven't watched the actual video of him making this
- 4:11Speaker 5: shot and the electric reaction of the of the audience
- 4:15Speaker 5: and that they should look it up on YouTube. It's
- 4:17Speaker 5: called the shot. And it was in nineteen ninety eight.
- 4:20Speaker 5: We're going back a little bit, uh, and he made
- 4:22Speaker 5: that game winning three pointer against Cincinnati that propelled them
- 4:25Speaker 5: into the sweet sixteenth. I thought that was really cool.
- 4:28Speaker 3: And when you have those kinds of moments in those
- 4:33Speaker 3: types of games in the I'm going to say, playoff games,
- 4:37Speaker 3: no matter where you are in the playoffs, if it's
- 4:40Speaker 3: to get you to the next round, get you to
- 4:42Speaker 3: the championship, win the championship, those kinds of plays I
- 4:47Speaker 3: shouldn't call him plays, but those kinds of shots as
- 4:51Speaker 3: a football players player, Yeah.
- 4:52Speaker 2: So those are never forgotten. Oh No, And I and
- 4:58Speaker 2: you know what.
- 4:59Speaker 3: It's curious if you're that player who makes that shot
- 5:04Speaker 3: like in that moment, for you are now forever in history.
- 5:10Speaker 5: You're an icon.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:12Speaker 5: I mean the Mountaineers will never forget. I mean, if
- 5:14Speaker 5: you're a true Mountaineer fan, you will never forget that shot.
- 5:17Speaker 5: I mean I remember, you know, watching it. We were
- 5:19Speaker 5: at a restaurant or somewhere watching that, and we thought
- 5:22Speaker 5: that the game was over and he made that three pointer.
- 5:24Speaker 5: I mean, the place went crazy, you know, the reaction
- 5:28Speaker 5: because they you know, if they'd lost, you go home.
- 5:30Speaker 5: It's kind of the heart format of March Madness. But
- 5:33Speaker 5: and then the other one. You'll like this one because
- 5:35Speaker 5: it's a Marshall tie m and I was thinking about,
- 5:38Speaker 5: you know, Marshall. This one's a little more recent twenty
- 5:40Speaker 5: eighteen when they won their first ever tournament game. Okay,
- 5:45Speaker 5: and then what was crazy about it was the way
- 5:49Speaker 5: that the seeding worked in their in their area. I
- 5:52Speaker 5: guess it's called their bracket or whatever they they were.
- 5:55Speaker 5: If WV one and Marshall one, they had to play
- 5:58Speaker 5: each other in the second around, and of course the
- 6:01Speaker 5: VU is victorious. But I mean a lot of people
- 6:03Speaker 5: were kind of sad about that, because no matter what
- 6:06Speaker 5: side of the fence you were on, they were both
- 6:07Speaker 5: state schools in the NCAA tournament, right, and you wanted
- 6:12Speaker 5: to make deep, deep runs before they played each other, right, right?
- 6:15Speaker 3: And and and I don't to your point, like whether
- 6:19Speaker 3: you're Marshall, whether you're WVU, you want them to move
- 6:23Speaker 3: forward and wherever they're going to meet, you would prefer
- 6:27Speaker 3: it later in in in the brackets then early, yes,
- 6:31Speaker 3: because then it's like I don't even know if the fans,
- 6:37Speaker 3: well I shouldn't say that, I'll say the fans of
- 6:39Speaker 3: the of the team who lost. It just creates some
- 6:44Speaker 3: drama when it comes to like how bad you dislike WVU,
- 6:50Speaker 3: how bad you dislike Marshall because they won. Yeah, and
- 6:54Speaker 3: it just it kind of creates bad blood even more.
- 6:59Speaker 5: I think, oh for sure. I mean especially when you know,
- 7:01Speaker 5: and whoever wins that game gets to move on to
- 7:03Speaker 5: the next rounds. Yeah, but it was it was that
- 7:07Speaker 5: was kind of like I was like, oh man, if
- 7:08Speaker 5: they could have just been you know, I think they
- 7:10Speaker 5: I think the committee probably did that purposely, you know,
- 7:13Speaker 5: to try to get to state schools. Maybe not, but
- 7:15Speaker 5: that was just you know, being my paranoia and thinking
- 7:18Speaker 5: to West Virginia schools. They knew it would bring, you know,
- 7:21Speaker 5: good audience and.
- 7:23Speaker 3: And I'm gonna I'm going to go back to like
- 7:26Speaker 3: a couple of our playoff situations with the vikings and
- 7:33Speaker 3: the feelings when you lose, because every I think, if
- 7:37Speaker 3: you if you've never experienced winning, like maybe the first round,
- 7:42Speaker 3: second round, whatever, and that excitement if you can reverse
- 7:47Speaker 3: that in times it by maybe three when you lose,
- 7:52Speaker 3: and now you got and think about this. Now there's
- 7:55Speaker 3: grown men on the field, you know, and you could
- 8:00Speaker 3: make a case that you know, specifically playoff game.
- 8:08Speaker 2: When you lose.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Them, there is a place that you go somewhere in
- 8:16Speaker 3: your brain because you don't, you know, you're you're too
- 8:19Speaker 3: old to kind of cry about it, and you know that, hey,
- 8:23Speaker 3: well next year's you know, we look at you try
- 8:29Speaker 3: your best to fake it like, yeah we got next year.
- 8:32Speaker 3: You know we could come back. And I can remember
- 8:33Speaker 3: we lost in the NFC an NFC championship game against
- 8:37Speaker 3: the Redskins, and it was like, Okay, you can't cry,
- 8:44Speaker 3: you know, you gotta you know, you can't be you know,
- 8:48Speaker 3: you gotta kind of walk with your head up. You
- 8:49Speaker 3: kind of got to be proud that we got this
- 8:51Speaker 3: far and wait until next year that that that comes
- 8:54Speaker 3: out of everybody's mouth in the locker room. The coaches
- 8:58Speaker 3: are talking about next year, all of those kinds of that.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Though, right it's too soon for that. It's like because
- 9:05Speaker 2: you can't, like you can't get away from it. You
- 9:07Speaker 2: can't get away from that loss.
- 9:08Speaker 3: And it doesn't matter if it's a blowout or if
- 9:13Speaker 3: it's two points.
- 9:14Speaker 2: You know, it doesn't make it. Don't think the.
- 9:15Speaker 5: Closer games are more hurtful, Like you knew you were
- 9:18Speaker 5: so close. Rather's to me. I think you tell me
- 9:22Speaker 5: a blowout, you kind of prepare yourself all along the game, like,
- 9:25Speaker 5: uh oh it's coming, we're gonna lose, We're gonna lose.
- 9:28Speaker 5: But those close games just rip your heart out, I
- 9:30Speaker 5: would see.
- 9:30Speaker 3: I think, I think, Okay, So the bluwout games, as
- 9:35Speaker 3: you're participating in getting blown out, you know, I'm mad
- 9:40Speaker 3: at you.
- 9:42Speaker 5: You're always mad at.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Because you gave up. You gave up a play. Even
- 9:46Speaker 3: if I gave up a play, you're mad at me.
- 9:48Speaker 2: You know. It's like you're and it's private.
- 9:50Speaker 3: It's not like it's you know, it's not like you're
- 9:52Speaker 3: trying to turn on your team, you know, the coaches.
- 9:55Speaker 2: It's team work. It's teamwork.
- 9:57Speaker 3: And I'm a I'm a teamwork kind of guy. But
- 10:00Speaker 3: in a situation like that, it's like, oh gosh, what
- 10:04Speaker 3: did he You know? Then I come over and hey,
- 10:06Speaker 3: don't worry about it, you know, but you're.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Still secret.
- 10:11Speaker 5: Animosity. Yes, if he hadn't dropped the ball, or if
- 10:14Speaker 5: he'd have done this or that.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Those games, in those kinds of situations. As as as
- 10:22Speaker 3: coaches want to try to make sure that there's unity
- 10:25Speaker 3: into the into the team, there is that, yeah, and
- 10:28Speaker 3: you can, you can, you can create that, but it's personally,
- 10:34Speaker 3: it's it's really hard to get over that type of
- 10:37Speaker 3: a loss, you know.
- 10:38Speaker 5: And that's as a seasoned professional player when you when
- 10:42Speaker 5: you tie this back to March madness. These are kids, yes,
- 10:46Speaker 5: and some of them, some of them know they're playing
- 10:47Speaker 5: their very yes, so you know, if the tears flow,
- 10:52Speaker 5: we can't really be critical.
- 10:54Speaker 2: You can't. And and is that.
- 10:56Speaker 5: An old school thing? You can't cry? There's no crying
- 10:59Speaker 5: in football? Is it like no crime of baseball?
- 11:01Speaker 3: I don't Yeah, I think I think that nobody wants
- 11:04Speaker 3: to they you know, if you played your best, and
- 11:07Speaker 3: this is what I always say, if you played your best,
- 11:09Speaker 3: don't worry about it. You know, I say that to
- 11:12Speaker 3: all of our young kids. Does it help? No, because
- 11:16Speaker 3: they're still crying. Do they hear it?
- 11:19Speaker 2: Maybe? You know? But and I have to say, yeah,
- 11:23Speaker 2: you have to say.
- 11:24Speaker 3: But then the other side of that is can you
- 11:27Speaker 3: can you honestly say to yourself you have not been
- 11:30Speaker 3: in that situation before, and how do you how did
- 11:33Speaker 3: you feel in that moment? Yeah, And there's some games
- 11:36Speaker 3: that I can, like, I can go back and think about, oh,
- 11:39Speaker 3: that game, that game, and and I'm trying to fight
- 11:43Speaker 3: tears off. I'm trying to like just you know, be
- 11:46Speaker 3: a man about it and and tough it out, and man,
- 11:49Speaker 3: it's tough. You know those kind of games are you know,
- 11:54Speaker 3: when you start talking about these kinds of tournaments, your expectation,
- 11:58Speaker 3: and then what happens if you don't meet that expectation.
- 12:02Speaker 3: If you think you can get to the championship and
- 12:04Speaker 3: you lose in the second.
- 12:05Speaker 6: Round, heartbreaking, heartbreaking, and you're trying to figure out, like,
- 12:09Speaker 6: why did we lose it?
- 12:11Speaker 3: And you're looking around trying to figure out what was
- 12:13Speaker 3: the cause of the loss, and you can't.
- 12:17Speaker 5: You can't just one thing. It's a combination of things
- 12:20Speaker 5: going wrong.
- 12:21Speaker 2: And sometimes it's just the other team.
- 12:23Speaker 5: It could just be bad luck.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Sometimes the other team's just better, or the.
- 12:27Speaker 5: Ball bounces a certain way, and that's just absolutely the
- 12:29Speaker 5: way it goes.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Absolutely, But basketball is one of their sports. It's even
- 12:32Speaker 1: more difficult. I think from a football perspective, you've got
- 12:35Speaker 1: eleven players on offense, eleven on defense, eleven on special teams.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Basketball is five guys score and they're doing everything. I
- 12:45Speaker 1: have to think the pressure would be even higher in
- 12:48Speaker 1: basketball the way March mandains is built.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree with you on that, because you're right.
- 12:55Speaker 3: Five guys are trying to to do one a complish
- 13:00Speaker 3: one thing, win this game so we can go to
- 13:02Speaker 3: the championship.
- 13:03Speaker 2: And you don't do it.
- 13:05Speaker 3: It's somebody in that five you know, if not, if
- 13:09Speaker 3: you know, in most cases it's the whole thing. But
- 13:11Speaker 3: maybe the team was better, just the better team, But
- 13:15Speaker 3: it's hard to accept that. I think when you try
- 13:18Speaker 3: to tell somebody team's just better.
- 13:21Speaker 5: Then they don't want to hear that.
- 13:22Speaker 2: I don't want to hear that.
- 13:24Speaker 5: And and really March madness is such I mean, it's
- 13:26Speaker 5: such an accomplishment whoever wins the whole tournament. I mean
- 13:30Speaker 5: it's mind blowing to think how many you know games
- 13:33Speaker 5: they had to be on and be able to, you know,
- 13:36Speaker 5: to win and move from from one you know, sectional
- 13:39Speaker 5: or whatever it's called to another. You know, it's quite
- 13:43Speaker 5: a feat for whatever school wins the whole tournament. In
- 13:46Speaker 5: my opinion, what sixty eight schools?
- 13:47Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, Well, to kind of draw the difference between
- 13:52Speaker 1: football and basketball here too, March madness is like the
- 13:55Speaker 1: crown jewel for the NCAA because of the way it's built.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Because you've got so many teams in there. I think
- 14:03Speaker 1: football at the college level would just wish to be
- 14:08Speaker 1: as good. That's what March madness is because I mean, yeah,
- 14:12Speaker 1: they're expanding the playoffs in football, but every year it's
- 14:16Speaker 1: just like by the middle of the season, you're like, well,
- 14:19Speaker 1: it's gonna be Team X, Y or C. Basketball, you
- 14:24Speaker 1: have no idea. There's always some front runners. But as
- 14:29Speaker 1: you mentioned Cinderella stories, Yeah, every year somebody comes out
- 14:33Speaker 1: of nowhere you.
- 14:33Speaker 5: Think about in the past. George Mason, Florida Gulf Coast.
- 14:37Speaker 5: I mean those are kind of old school, you know,
- 14:38Speaker 5: ones that I can recall right out right off the
- 14:40Speaker 5: top of my head. But they made deep runs even
- 14:44Speaker 5: to the final four, I believe. And they were small schools,
- 14:47Speaker 5: relatively small. I mean, they're really not as blue bloods,
- 14:50Speaker 5: so to speak, as you have like with Kentucky's and
- 14:54Speaker 5: Connecticuts and all them. So it's always fun to see
- 14:56Speaker 5: a school like that sneak in, and a.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Lot of times it's hard for in football for that
- 15:04Speaker 2: team to sneak in.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:06Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, usually you get there, you get the
- 15:10Speaker 3: teams that that you think, rarely do you get that
- 15:16Speaker 3: major upset in football. It's in most cases it's gonna
- 15:21Speaker 3: go the way everybody thinks it's gonna go, and no
- 15:25Speaker 3: matter how close it is, that makes it. That makes
- 15:29Speaker 3: you at least a little happy to well, you know,
- 15:31Speaker 3: we played well, da da da da da, but you're
- 15:34Speaker 3: going home. Yeah, and everybody predicted that you were gonna go.
- 15:40Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 15:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that's I think that's a I think
- 15:44Speaker 3: that's a when you're going into it and you know,
- 15:47Speaker 3: every everybody's saying, oh, oh, they don't they don't respect us,
- 15:50Speaker 3: they don't you know, they don't think we're gonna win
- 15:52Speaker 3: this one. Let's go prove it to them. Sometimes that
- 15:56Speaker 3: can work for you. Yeah, but if that team's just
- 15:59Speaker 3: better than you, man, it's it's it's.
- 16:01Speaker 5: It is what it is.
- 16:02Speaker 2: It is what it is.
- 16:03Speaker 5: It's hard. It's hard to internalize that sometimes. Well, speaking
- 16:07Speaker 5: of March madness, let's tie in our girls team from WVU,
- 16:10Speaker 5: because this is pretty exciting. You know that they've had
- 16:13Speaker 5: a historic run. They won the Big twelve tournament, won
- 16:17Speaker 5: the championship, and and and their gift for winning it
- 16:20Speaker 5: is a number four seeding and Morgantown gets to host
- 16:24Speaker 5: the opening round of the ncub A tournament. And this
- 16:28Speaker 5: is the first time in thirty four years that WVU
- 16:31Speaker 5: will host an NCAA tournament game in Morgantown. Now, so
- 16:36Speaker 5: that's exciting, right.
- 16:37Speaker 2: That is that? That is exciting. That is great stuff.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Okay, but we get but I'm just gonna say, but again,
- 16:46Speaker 3: as we have talked, you don't want to be in
- 16:50Speaker 3: that situation.
- 16:51Speaker 2: What you know you wait.
- 16:53Speaker 3: A minute, mean, can we cut her mic off?
- 16:58Speaker 1: I mean, I've got the button right here.
- 17:01Speaker 5: I'll be quite go ahead.
- 17:03Speaker 3: I think the I think the challenge in that is
- 17:09Speaker 3: what if you don't win, you have the opportunity to
- 17:13Speaker 3: play at home, and what if you don't win.
- 17:20Speaker 7: That?
- 17:20Speaker 3: See, I don't want to be I don't want to
- 17:23Speaker 3: I don't want to beat Okay.
- 17:25Speaker 5: So they're a number four seed. Their opponent is a
- 17:27Speaker 5: number thirteen seed, I believe Miami of Ohio. Okay. So
- 17:31Speaker 5: that's you know, and they're playing at home. I think
- 17:36Speaker 5: coach Kellogg spoke after they announced that that they had
- 17:39Speaker 5: like a little get together for the team and for
- 17:41Speaker 5: fans in Morgantown, and he spoke about, you know, please
- 17:45Speaker 5: come to the game. Here's my question for both of you, guys.
- 17:48Speaker 5: Do you feel like the fan base is ready to
- 17:52Speaker 5: like if it were the guys, you know, in this situation,
- 17:56Speaker 5: we know that there would be so much excitement and
- 17:58Speaker 5: support and you know, fan and all the things. But
- 18:01Speaker 5: because it's not the men's team, it's it's the women's team,
- 18:05Speaker 5: do you think it's going to be as as vibrant
- 18:07Speaker 5: and supported.
- 18:08Speaker 3: I hope, and I hope and I think it would
- 18:12Speaker 3: be because you got your moms and dads, you got
- 18:15Speaker 3: your cousins, you got your brothers and sisters, you got
- 18:17Speaker 3: all of them, all of them coming and then you've
- 18:19Speaker 3: got the die hard West Virginia fans who will all
- 18:23Speaker 3: it has to do is be bleak, blue and gold,
- 18:25Speaker 3: and they're coming, you know. And so I actually think
- 18:29Speaker 3: that you will get a great turnout.
- 18:32Speaker 2: For it to give you the feel of true home
- 18:37Speaker 2: field advantage.
- 18:37Speaker 5: Okay, well you think, Matt.
- 18:39Speaker 1: I don't think they've necessarily had the attendance numbers throughout
- 18:43Speaker 1: the regular season.
- 18:44Speaker 5: That was my concern.
- 18:45Speaker 1: But I will say this, I feel like over the
- 18:48Speaker 1: last several years, the women's basketball program at WVU has
- 18:53Speaker 1: been far more consistent than the men's. I mean every year,
- 18:56Speaker 1: the men's is basically a clean slate. Yeah, I mean
- 18:59Speaker 1: it's been new coaches, new players and everything. The women,
- 19:03Speaker 1: I feel like there's a little bit more consistency there.
- 19:05Speaker 1: I mean, again, we're living in the age of the portals.
- 19:07Speaker 1: I mean, there's always going to be that. But I
- 19:10Speaker 1: think that I mean, I don't think that don't fill
- 19:14Speaker 1: it up. I think I think absolutely. I think so.
- 19:16Speaker 1: I think they'll have me.
- 19:17Speaker 5: I totally hope you're both right. I hope that that
- 19:20Speaker 5: it's a great crowd and they come out victorious and
- 19:22Speaker 5: the girls.
- 19:24Speaker 3: To me, like I would think that they would promote that,
- 19:26Speaker 3: they would really promote that promot, you know, because I
- 19:29Speaker 3: think that would be something truly, really truly special for
- 19:34Speaker 3: them and give them, you know, a good comfortable feel
- 19:37Speaker 3: of like, hey, we can win this, you know, because
- 19:40Speaker 3: I really do believe that fan base.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Helped you in any in any sport.
- 19:48Speaker 3: If you've got folks cheering for you, I mean that
- 19:50Speaker 3: to me A lot of times, that just gives you
- 19:52Speaker 3: more motivation to work even harder during the game. You
- 19:57Speaker 3: you might be tired, but you ain't coming out because
- 19:59Speaker 3: you just you are, you just I got to do
- 20:01Speaker 3: this for the fans, And I feel like I don't
- 20:05Speaker 3: know how they would not.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Sell out the whole place.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Yeah. I know a lot of people that have been
- 20:11Speaker 1: regular season football ticket holders. Yes that, especially over the
- 20:15Speaker 1: last couple of years, been a little bit more prone
- 20:18Speaker 1: to selling those off. You know, miss a game when
- 20:20Speaker 1: you hear the same with basketball. But I feel like,
- 20:24Speaker 1: I mean, this particular type of game is going to
- 20:27Speaker 1: be the one that, now you know what, I'll drive
- 20:29Speaker 1: from Charleston, I'll drive from wherever and go see that game.
- 20:32Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 20:33Speaker 5: And That's what I've heard from a lot of my
- 20:35Speaker 5: friends who are diehard WVU. You know, fans in football
- 20:38Speaker 5: and men's basketball, they're they're going to attend on Saturday.
- 20:41Speaker 5: So let's just hope that that trend is you know,
- 20:44Speaker 5: all through Mountaineer Nation because you know, for these girls,
- 20:47Speaker 5: I mean, this is just such an important thing for
- 20:50Speaker 5: women's sports in West Virginia in my opinion.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Do you think you're right?
- 20:54Speaker 5: Do you agree? I mean, because I think that the
- 20:56Speaker 5: little girls and the aspiring women athletes at the high
- 21:00Speaker 5: school level and maybe some of the smaller colleges to see,
- 21:03Speaker 5: you know, these women experience that kind of success at WVU.
- 21:07Speaker 5: It's not the typical South Carolina or Tennessee I think
- 21:11Speaker 5: has a good women's team. You know, this is in
- 21:14Speaker 5: this is in Morgantown, and so I think they're they're
- 21:16Speaker 5: trailblazers for our for our females here in the state.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Well I'll tell you what else helps them out. It's
- 21:20Speaker 1: on a Saturday. Oh amen, that's always going to help
- 21:23Speaker 1: out on attention.
- 21:23Speaker 5: Y Yeah, for sure.
- 21:25Speaker 3: So I have I have an idea, and I'm curious
- 21:27Speaker 3: with what both of you all think, and maybe you
- 21:29Speaker 3: can even you might think it should may be high
- 21:32Speaker 3: school versus middle school. I think every middle school female
- 21:39Speaker 3: athlete and or male athlete how to have an opportunity.
- 21:44Speaker 3: There should be like a day that they go to Marshall.
- 21:49Speaker 3: They go to wv U and they see the campus,
- 21:53Speaker 3: they meet athletes, they meet.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Like the field trip as a field trip, And.
- 21:59Speaker 3: I think that motivates our kids to want to be
- 22:03Speaker 3: to want to go to WU, want to go to
- 22:04Speaker 3: Marshall and feel like, you know, there's something, there's a
- 22:08Speaker 3: connection because I saw it when I was a kid,
- 22:11Speaker 3: and I just i and I just can't wait to
- 22:14Speaker 3: go back again.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that we should have something.
- 22:21Speaker 5: I think that's a great idea. I'm not even I'm
- 22:24Speaker 5: not going to sit here and say that that doesn't
- 22:26Speaker 5: exist in the Yeah, I.
- 22:27Speaker 3: Don't know if it does or doesn't, but I think
- 22:29Speaker 3: that I think it if nothing else, if you just
- 22:32Speaker 3: take the let's say a female basketball team middle.
- 22:37Speaker 2: School or high school.
- 22:39Speaker 3: High school there might be some rules or something in there,
- 22:41Speaker 3: but middle school and you take them to a female
- 22:46Speaker 3: basketball practice, yeah, you know, even if it's a practice
- 22:50Speaker 3: and you get a chance to see the girls, the
- 22:53Speaker 3: women that you want to be. Yeah, I think I
- 22:56Speaker 3: think there's something about when you see them and you
- 22:59Speaker 3: meet them and you realize that they're normal, They're not
- 23:03Speaker 3: you know, like that, but what they've achieved is not
- 23:07Speaker 3: reachable for yourself, right You're like, oh man, she can Yeah,
- 23:12Speaker 3: I can do it. I think I think one of
- 23:14Speaker 3: the one of the hardest things is that we don't
- 23:17Speaker 3: have we don't utilize the examples.
- 23:21Speaker 2: For our athletes to motivate them to understand what to do,
- 23:25Speaker 2: how to do it, and who all did it.
- 23:28Speaker 1: I think you're bringing up a really excellent point here
- 23:31Speaker 1: because I feel like a lot of times kids are
- 23:34Speaker 1: not thinking about the college campus until they're ready to
- 23:37Speaker 1: go on visits and figure out where am I going
- 23:40Speaker 1: to go? Right, And this type of thing would allow
- 23:45Speaker 1: those student athletes, and not even just student athletes, I
- 23:48Speaker 1: mean even things like music. I mean, yeah, I went
- 23:51Speaker 1: up to WU when I was in high school. I
- 23:53Speaker 1: was in music in high school, went up there for uh,
- 23:55Speaker 1: you know, an honor band, and so that got me
- 23:57Speaker 1: on campus, That got me in front of the professors
- 23:59Speaker 1: up there. You know, you get these middle and high
- 24:02Speaker 1: school especially like freshman sophomore year, to just go and
- 24:06Speaker 1: maybe I don't know, participate in a camp. So not
- 24:08Speaker 1: only are they going to work with the other athletes
- 24:10Speaker 1: in the program, but they'll see other athletes from around
- 24:13Speaker 1: the state that are doing the same thing. They are
- 24:15Speaker 1: trying to get better, trying to learn, because I do.
- 24:18Speaker 1: I feel like by the time kids go to campus,
- 24:20Speaker 1: it's because they're trying to figure out where they want
- 24:22Speaker 1: where they want to go, and they haven't been there
- 24:24Speaker 1: any younger than that.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Right, And I think there's a there's a.
- 24:28Speaker 3: If I go to Marshall and I go to WVU,
- 24:31Speaker 3: I visit those at a young age, I'm gonna remember that.
- 24:35Speaker 3: And let's say I get to become, you know, a
- 24:38Speaker 3: junior in high school, and I've got a bunch of offers, right,
- 24:44Speaker 3: one of them is Marshall, one of them might be WVU,
- 24:46Speaker 3: and the rest of them are.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Out of state.
- 24:48Speaker 3: What's the chances of me realizing and remembering, yeah, what
- 24:53Speaker 3: I felt, how I felt on campus at Marshall, on
- 24:56Speaker 3: campus at WVU. Now, what's the I think we now
- 25:02Speaker 3: get It gives us a a jump start on a connection,
- 25:07Speaker 3: a connection to those kids that they will that they
- 25:11Speaker 3: have never forgotten.
- 25:12Speaker 2: They're not gonna because they're not gonna forget it.
- 25:15Speaker 1: You know.
- 25:15Speaker 3: Now, I'm not saying that you can that's gonna necessarily
- 25:18Speaker 3: mean if that's a Randy Moss type of an athlete,
- 25:20Speaker 3: that may not, that may not change the dynamics there.
- 25:25Speaker 3: But for the athletes that were in the middle right,
- 25:31Speaker 3: like I don't even say myself, you I didn't get
- 25:35Speaker 3: a trip to wv U.
- 25:37Speaker 2: I got a trip to Marshall. Where did I go?
- 25:42Speaker 5: So that that speaks volumes of of whether or not
- 25:44Speaker 5: that connection works. You're able to reach, you know, those
- 25:47Speaker 5: those student athletes at the high school, middle school level
- 25:50Speaker 5: and and and start that foundation. They don't they don't
- 25:53Speaker 5: forget that later, you know, when they become more successful
- 25:56Speaker 5: and are ready to choose a school.
- 25:58Speaker 3: I think, I think, I really do think that we
- 26:01Speaker 3: could do a better job with our young athletes if
- 26:05Speaker 3: we opened up that door to let them see let
- 26:09Speaker 3: them meet the star quarterback, let them meet the offensive
- 26:14Speaker 3: lineman that I might be, you know, or you know,
- 26:17Speaker 3: just I just think having those guys in front of them,
- 26:21Speaker 3: I think is a It's a valuable thing for them
- 26:25Speaker 3: and for their future. If that's where they want to play,
- 26:28Speaker 3: If that's where you want it, you want to be
- 26:29Speaker 3: an athlete, why.
- 26:30Speaker 2: Not promoting start promoting home as early as possible.
- 26:35Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that's legitimate. So that was a good point.
- 26:38Speaker 5: So I'm going to bring up one more interesting fact
- 26:40Speaker 5: before we move on to a subject that I know
- 26:42Speaker 5: you want to talk about pretty strongly. But so these
- 26:46Speaker 5: girls on the basketball team, and Matt, you may have
- 26:49Speaker 5: heard of this, They had something called a lemon tradition.
- 26:51Speaker 5: Did you hear about this.
- 26:53Speaker 1: I've seen something about this, but I don't remember exactly
- 26:56Speaker 1: what it is.
- 26:56Speaker 5: Okay, So so they're trainers. I guess their their team doctors, trainers.
- 27:01Speaker 5: One of them has a holistic approach to treating her,
- 27:05Speaker 5: you know, not totally holistic, but has some ideas about
- 27:08Speaker 5: you know, some natural things that work with the players
- 27:10Speaker 5: to get them ready for games and and and you know,
- 27:13Speaker 5: kind of sharpen their mentality for the game. Yes, yes, yes, perfect.
- 27:17Speaker 5: So the players and people notice this on the sideline
- 27:21Speaker 5: before WU girls games, the players eat lemons before the game.
- 27:25Speaker 5: They actually do like like I guess, if you know,
- 27:28Speaker 5: think about if you did a shock to quila.
- 27:29Speaker 2: You do a lemon, right, people, I don't know how
- 27:31Speaker 2: to do that.
- 27:32Speaker 5: Well, I'm just saying I don't either. I've just seen
- 27:36Speaker 5: I've just heard about it in books. And I've seen
- 27:38Speaker 5: it on television. Yeah, I thought all about but they
- 27:46Speaker 5: eat the lemons. And the reason is, according to the
- 27:48Speaker 5: trainers and the and the you know, osteopathic types of
- 27:51Speaker 5: doctors they have there is to shock their system and
- 27:55Speaker 5: maintain focus. So I'm going to need some lemons in
- 27:58Speaker 5: my life, I think at my house from now on?
- 28:01Speaker 5: What about you guys, so I don't shock your system
- 28:06Speaker 5: and maintain focus. I mean I could use that in
- 28:08Speaker 5: my life.
- 28:09Speaker 2: I tell you what I'm gonna because what's what I'm
- 28:13Speaker 2: going to do is.
- 28:13Speaker 5: I'm going to be bring some lemons to the next show.
- 28:16Speaker 3: I'm gonna I'm gonna do that before like on a
- 28:19Speaker 3: day like I don't feel like I want to work out,
- 28:21Speaker 3: I don't want to run, and I'm gonna test the theory,
- 28:26Speaker 3: test the theory and see if it works.
- 28:28Speaker 5: Okay, let us know.
- 28:29Speaker 2: I will. I will definitely be.
- 28:33Speaker 5: Very scientific.
- 28:34Speaker 2: I will.
- 28:35Speaker 1: I do have a question here, Okay, what did you
- 28:37Speaker 1: guys have on the sidelines when you played for the
- 28:39Speaker 1: Vikings to drink gatorade?
- 28:44Speaker 2: Was gatorade and water?
- 28:45Speaker 1: What flavor is the gatorade?
- 28:48Speaker 5: Lemon?
- 28:49Speaker 1: A lot of times teams use lemon.
- 28:50Speaker 3: I wonder if they're like, I don't know, I don't really, I.
- 28:54Speaker 5: Don't Maybe there is a lemon. I bet they probably
- 28:57Speaker 5: have lemon.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Color. Is it like a lemon lime or whatever. I'm
- 29:02Speaker 1: just wondering. I'm drawing. I have no idea, but it
- 29:06Speaker 1: could be something in that. I don't know.
- 29:08Speaker 5: Let's you know and just try it.
- 29:12Speaker 3: What's interesting to that is if they would do that,
- 29:15Speaker 3: you would like to think that you would know, like
- 29:18Speaker 3: you like that, that you would know that they do that,
- 29:20Speaker 3: but not maybe they just don't say it, just do it,
- 29:23Speaker 3: and so you would never really what must.
- 29:26Speaker 5: Work to a degree or the girls thinks it works,
- 29:28Speaker 5: or they wouldn't do it right, I mean, they wouldn't
- 29:31Speaker 5: continue to do it.
- 29:32Speaker 3: I'm gonna I'm gonna do I'm going to try it
- 29:35Speaker 3: out when we get we get into the youth football,
- 29:38Speaker 3: I'll have one with lemons and I'll let kids know
- 29:41Speaker 3: that it's lemon, and kids.
- 29:44Speaker 5: Won't have lemon. They know what it's going to taste like.
- 29:48Speaker 1: Pearl's going to make an experiment.
- 29:50Speaker 5: Yeah, hey, you just tested out on you first, okay,
- 29:54Speaker 5: and then and then report back to us last week.
- 29:57Speaker 1: When you record a podcast, you come in here everybody
- 30:00Speaker 1: choose on eleven first, and then we'll start recording and
- 30:03Speaker 1: we'll see where it shows.
- 30:04Speaker 5: I think that's a fine idea. No, I do not
- 30:07Speaker 5: supply the lemon.
- 30:08Speaker 2: I do not I do not think that would work.
- 30:12Speaker 2: I don't think we need anything else to get his
- 30:14Speaker 2: goal with.
- 30:14Speaker 5: Yeah, oh my goodness.
- 30:18Speaker 2: All right, well, we'll take a quick break and we
- 30:20Speaker 2: will be right back.

- 31:15Speaker 3: All right, ladies and gentlemen, we've got a well, let
- 31:19Speaker 3: me just say this. Lisa has a little clip. We're
- 31:21Speaker 3: going to play.
- 31:22Speaker 5: It's it's Michael Jordan's.
- 31:25Speaker 2: Right, it's a little clip.
- 31:26Speaker 5: Yeah, it's mj It's the ghost.
- 31:28Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 31:29Speaker 5: Let's hear about it.
- 31:30Speaker 7: First of all, you're you're never gonna say who's the
- 31:32Speaker 7: greatest of all time to me? And I think that's
- 31:35Speaker 7: that's more for pr and more for selling stores and
- 31:38Speaker 7: getting hype. Jack and Tiger never played against ea Ja.
- 31:41Speaker 7: They never played in the same tournament. They never played
- 31:43Speaker 7: with the same equipment, They never played with the same
- 31:45Speaker 7: you know, length of golf course. I never played against
- 31:48Speaker 7: Will Chainman. I never played against you know, Jerry West.
- 31:51Speaker 7: To now say that you know one's greater than the other,
- 31:54Speaker 7: it's being a little bit unfair. I think when you
- 31:57Speaker 7: can see the similarities and you understand this is one
- 32:00Speaker 7: where you can judge the two. How much impact did
- 32:02Speaker 7: each change or evolve the game? You know, that's how
- 32:06Speaker 7: people are judging certain things. I won six championship, Bill
- 32:10Speaker 7: Russell won eleven. Does that make Bill Russell better than
- 32:14Speaker 7: me and make me better than him. No, because you
- 32:16Speaker 7: play at different erarans. So when you try to equate
- 32:19Speaker 7: who's the greatest of all time, it's an unfair parallel.
- 32:23Speaker 7: It's an unfair First of all, you're never going to.
- 32:25Speaker 5: See what do you think?
- 32:28Speaker 2: I like it?
- 32:30Speaker 3: And I like it, and I'm going to tell you
- 32:33Speaker 3: why I like it, okay, because I think it's Michael.
- 32:37Speaker 2: Jordan and he can't say.
- 32:42Speaker 3: He's not gonna say that you're the goat, and he
- 32:46Speaker 3: never wants to say himself that he's the goat, right,
- 32:49Speaker 3: So he's stuck in a in between kind of conversations,
- 32:54Speaker 3: so he has to give that.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Open. But he is right, there's no question. But what
- 33:04Speaker 2: if he'd have said.
- 33:07Speaker 5: I'm the goat, Well then we wouldn't have played the clip.
- 33:10Speaker 4: But but.
- 33:12Speaker 3: Yeah, we probably would have because because there's gonna be
- 33:15Speaker 3: somebody's gonna come back and say, oh, well, well Chamberlain
- 33:18Speaker 3: was the goat like he said, yeah, and and so
- 33:21Speaker 3: you're gonna get those debates on who who who's really
- 33:28Speaker 3: the goat in a particular sport.
- 33:31Speaker 5: Well, let's let's let's start here. Let's start here. What quality,
- 33:35Speaker 5: what what qualities do you need to possess to be
- 33:38Speaker 5: considered the goat, which which by the way, stands for
- 33:41Speaker 5: the greatest of all time in your sport. Some people
- 33:44Speaker 5: don't know that. I mean I didn't know it for
- 33:45Speaker 5: a long time, that's true. Just clarify what qualities do
- 33:49Speaker 5: you need?
- 33:49Speaker 3: See, I don't think I don't think that it has
- 33:53Speaker 3: to do so much with stats, because I think stats
- 33:57Speaker 3: can change year in and year out. But the but
- 34:00Speaker 3: the skill set, like for a quarterback, you know, back
- 34:04Speaker 3: in the day, they didn't throw the ball as much
- 34:07Speaker 3: as they do now, So the chances of a court
- 34:10Speaker 3: an old school quarterback, let's say Joe Montana, his ability
- 34:16Speaker 3: and his numbers stat wise, he probably hasn't thrown half
- 34:20Speaker 3: of the number of passes completions that are quarterback today
- 34:25Speaker 3: because of the style, because of the style of the game.
- 34:28Speaker 3: So I think when you start talking about the goat,
- 34:32Speaker 3: I think the issue becomes the time frame in which, yeah,
- 34:39Speaker 3: you played.
- 34:40Speaker 5: I agree with that.
- 34:42Speaker 3: You know, a running back, you if I was gonna pick,
- 34:48Speaker 3: if I was gonna pick who's the goat, who's the best?
- 34:53Speaker 3: What's the best running back that I've played against? That's
- 34:57Speaker 3: easy for me that's Walter Payton.
- 35:00Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 35:01Speaker 3: Now Bo Jackson, Okay, I I Bo Jackson is a
- 35:08Speaker 3: great football player, but the impact that he has versus
- 35:15Speaker 3: what I saw in Walter Payton because of Peyton. Peyton's
- 35:19Speaker 3: not a he's not a huge dude. Bo Jackson's is
- 35:22Speaker 3: a big old guy. So he's supposed to run over me.
- 35:25Speaker 3: I can at least work. I should be able to
- 35:28Speaker 3: do something with Walter Payton, and I can't do a
- 35:30Speaker 3: thing with.
- 35:32Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying. I mean, yeah, I needed
- 35:35Speaker 2: a whole bunch of ems.
- 35:38Speaker 3: And so I think so for me, when I start
- 35:40Speaker 3: thinking about goats, I'm you know, I'm.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Thinking about on the field. I'm not looking at their stats.
- 35:48Speaker 3: I'm not looking at Hall of Fame, I'm not looking
- 35:50Speaker 3: at any of that.
- 35:51Speaker 2: I have the luxury to say, I'm.
- 35:54Speaker 3: Gonna judge it from what I saw on the field,
- 35:58Speaker 3: or what I saw.
- 35:58Speaker 2: On the on the tape watching a player that is
- 36:02Speaker 2: as a player.
- 36:03Speaker 3: Yes, Now, if I don't know necessarily where and what
- 36:08Speaker 3: matters to you and what matters to you, Matt might
- 36:11Speaker 3: see something totally different. He might look at it from
- 36:14Speaker 3: a different perspective. He might look at it from you know,
- 36:17Speaker 3: basically like the whole highlights of that athlete where you're
- 36:21Speaker 3: looking at numbers. So I don't know how you all would.
- 36:26Speaker 1: Here's the thing about it. The quality and the talent
- 36:31Speaker 1: level of the league is naturally going to get better
- 36:35Speaker 1: and better decade after decade after decade. So my personal opinion,
- 36:40Speaker 1: you have to look at it for the overall accomplishments
- 36:45Speaker 1: in the period of time that they played. Yeah, if
- 36:49Speaker 1: you can get another player that has a similar amount
- 36:52Speaker 1: of accomplishments thirty forty years ago, Okay, fine, so things
- 36:58Speaker 1: got better over forty years. But if you can accomplish
- 37:01Speaker 1: the same things in your period of time, in your era,
- 37:06Speaker 1: then that I think is what you have to look at.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Let me rattle off a few things.
- 37:09Speaker 2: Ok.
- 37:10Speaker 1: Michael Jordan six Championships, six Finals, MVPs, five NBA MVPs.
- 37:17Speaker 1: He was All Star Game MVP, three times, Defensive Player
- 37:21Speaker 1: of the Year in eighty eight, Rookie of the Year
- 37:22Speaker 1: in eighty five, ten scoring titles. He was ten times
- 37:27Speaker 1: All NBA First Team. I mean, not only was he
- 37:31Speaker 1: an offensive player, he was a defensive player. If you
- 37:33Speaker 1: can find me another player that has similar numbers in
- 37:37Speaker 1: their era, and those are the people you need to
- 37:39Speaker 1: be comparing and everybody else.
- 37:41Speaker 2: Is out right.
- 37:42Speaker 5: And I like what you said, Matt about the time frame.
- 37:45Speaker 5: Every time period is going to have a goat. In
- 37:47Speaker 5: my opinion, you can't compare a goat from one time
- 37:50Speaker 5: period to another. I mean, it's just different styles of play,
- 37:54Speaker 5: like you said, different athletic abilities, but they do have
- 37:57Speaker 5: something in common. And Michael Jordan fit the bill for
- 38:00Speaker 5: all of these the longevity of their play, their consistency,
- 38:05Speaker 5: their accolades, right, championships, it could be either or statistical dominance,
- 38:11Speaker 5: clutch performances, right because you know, you know if Mike
- 38:15Speaker 5: got the ball it was you know, at the end
- 38:17Speaker 5: of the game, that's who's going to.
- 38:18Speaker 2: Get the He's going to get.
- 38:20Speaker 5: And then cultural impact. So to me, those are those
- 38:23Speaker 5: are the qualifications that you need to consider when you
- 38:26Speaker 5: are looking at an athlete and deciding whether or not
- 38:30Speaker 5: they qualify as a goat.
- 38:31Speaker 3: That's just well and and and and I I one
- 38:34Speaker 3: agree with you. And then I would say to anybody
- 38:38Speaker 3: who would say, Okay, well I think it's such and such, Okay,
- 38:44Speaker 3: I give you that put them beside Michael Jordan, right,
- 38:48Speaker 3: And because if you're going to go buy stats. Let's
- 38:51Speaker 3: just look at the stats. Yeah, years played, championships, all
- 38:56Speaker 3: of those kinds of things. Do they add up right?
- 39:00Speaker 3: You know when you start talking about you start talking
- 39:05Speaker 3: about a running back and most people will say bo
- 39:08Speaker 3: Jackson because he was big. But I would my question
- 39:14Speaker 3: to that would be with how many games? I mean,
- 39:16Speaker 3: how many years did he actually play? And then one
- 39:20Speaker 3: of the concerns or the because my mine is mine
- 39:23Speaker 3: is Walter Payton.
- 39:25Speaker 2: When it comes to a running back, it's Walter pat.
- 39:28Speaker 5: It's another thing. You can't compare quarterbacks and running backs
- 39:30Speaker 5: and defensive back more than one game.
- 39:34Speaker 1: Wakes basketball more unique. Yet again, Football's position players. Yeah,
- 39:39Speaker 1: there's positions in basketball, but everybody is doing the thing
- 39:43Speaker 1: everybody's that's different. Lisa, you mentioned something that's got my
- 39:48Speaker 1: brain buzzing here and I didn't even need a lemon here.
- 39:52Speaker 1: Cultural impacts every contract, all these multimillion dollar contracts that
- 40:00Speaker 1: these players are getting today, the shoe deals, the athletic
- 40:04Speaker 1: air deals, all that stuff. Sure was it happening before
- 40:08Speaker 1: Jordan entered the league. Yeah, a little bit, but it's
- 40:13Speaker 1: it's way different now because of Michael.
- 40:16Speaker 2: Jordan's right.
- 40:18Speaker 3: Yes, and and to that, and the point that I
- 40:21Speaker 3: think that you're making is it was different. Yeah, when
- 40:26Speaker 3: when when MJ was getting these things, doing these things,
- 40:30Speaker 3: it was it was different.
- 40:32Speaker 2: It was what, really, I'm dying.
- 40:35Speaker 5: That shoe, you know, like, oh, everybody in one of those.
- 40:39Speaker 2: And no one.
- 40:41Speaker 3: I don't think since Jordan, I don't think there is.
- 40:45Speaker 3: I don't care if you've got a shoe, you got
- 40:47Speaker 3: a jersey. I don't think you have anybody that has
- 40:52Speaker 3: the impact to to hit the public, to be storming
- 40:58Speaker 3: to the store and selling out their shoes, shirts, jerseys, whatever.
- 41:03Speaker 2: I don't think you have that now.
- 41:05Speaker 1: And Jordan made the Nike brand because he was going
- 41:08Speaker 1: to go he wanted Adidas, and his mom said, no,
- 41:11Speaker 1: we're going to go take this meeting with Nike. There
- 41:13Speaker 1: were a brand new shoe company, and they gave him
- 41:17Speaker 1: those stock options, which is what made him rich. And
- 41:20Speaker 1: it's all just because he stopped and listened to his mom.
- 41:22Speaker 1: But otherwise he was going to go with Adidas.
- 41:25Speaker 5: And it's a wild story.
- 41:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean think about just how how narrow that
- 41:32Speaker 3: choice was.
- 41:34Speaker 1: I mean he was a gamble on.
- 41:36Speaker 5: Yeah, yes, it was.
- 41:37Speaker 3: It was and his mom saw it for whatever whatever
- 41:41Speaker 3: she saw you she knew whatever was she Yes, she
- 41:45Speaker 3: knew that.
- 41:46Speaker 2: She this is where we need to be. And again
- 41:50Speaker 2: he was the only guy.
- 41:53Speaker 5: He pioneered it. He definitely started the trend for all
- 41:57Speaker 5: of that for apparel for you know, she use that
- 42:00Speaker 5: kind of thing first athletes, but nobody. I don't think
- 42:03Speaker 5: I can't think of a recent athlete that has been
- 42:05Speaker 5: that successful as he was MJ was, don't you guys.
- 42:09Speaker 3: I don't even think that there is even a shoe
- 42:12Speaker 3: that any that's named after or somebody's wearing that is
- 42:16Speaker 3: even remotely close.
- 42:17Speaker 1: To Kobe is probably maybe Cochy. Yeah, He's probably the
- 42:23Speaker 1: only one.
- 42:23Speaker 3: And that isn't that odd that those are probably your
- 42:28Speaker 3: two most like I say, like players. They are you know,
- 42:34Speaker 3: their their play was was similar, and they would be the.
- 42:39Speaker 2: Two top shoe shoe market out there.
- 42:46Speaker 1: Yeah, shoes and jacket jacket.
- 42:50Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, it's crazy. So so is there some controversy about.
- 42:56Speaker 1: Lebron Lebron James s Lebron.
- 42:59Speaker 5: Wants to be the goat? I mean, am I hearing
- 43:01Speaker 5: that correctly or not correctly? Or is it a rumor?
- 43:07Speaker 2: It if not a rumor?
- 43:08Speaker 3: Okay, So all right, I'm gonna I'm gonna just justify
- 43:11Speaker 3: my what I think the goat is. I think the
- 43:15Speaker 3: goat doesn't have to be the best player in the league,
- 43:19Speaker 3: or because you played longer than anybody else, all those
- 43:23Speaker 3: kinds of things. I think the goat is the is
- 43:27Speaker 3: the individual who's changing how the game is being played.
- 43:33Speaker 3: Behind them, they're changing. Yeah, yeah, they're they're they're changing
- 43:38Speaker 3: how you play the game. Lebron's a big dude, dunking
- 43:43Speaker 3: and all that kind of stuff, but he's not. He
- 43:45Speaker 3: wasn't a Kobe. You know, he wasn't Kobe. And you
- 43:49Speaker 3: give a kid to basketball, what's he wanted to be?
- 43:51Speaker 3: He wants to be Kobe. He's not really overly interested
- 43:54Speaker 3: in being, you know, a big guy who's just dunking it,
- 43:59Speaker 3: you know. And and if I'm not trying to take
- 44:01Speaker 3: away from his his skill.
- 44:04Speaker 2: Set, but I just don't think that he is His
- 44:08Speaker 2: game is not.
- 44:09Speaker 5: As likelyary like the perfect Yes, it's just not.
- 44:15Speaker 1: There's no question he's a top ten player of all time.
- 44:18Speaker 1: He's an amazing basketball player.
- 44:21Speaker 2: Yes.
- 44:22Speaker 1: The difference for me, I think is just I mean,
- 44:25Speaker 1: for one, basically everything that Michael Jordan accomplished he did
- 44:28Speaker 1: with one team, Yes, you know, after ninety eighty eight,
- 44:31Speaker 1: came back and played for the Wizards for a bit,
- 44:33Speaker 1: but I mean he was pushing forty by that point. Yeah,
- 44:36Speaker 1: Lebron has moved around a little bit. He's had a
- 44:38Speaker 1: bunch of different head coaches. They've shifted players in and out.
- 44:43Speaker 1: You know, He's at times been the focal point, and
- 44:48Speaker 1: then at other times he's been like one major piece
- 44:52Speaker 1: of two or three major players on a team. It's
- 44:54Speaker 1: just always something different. I think it's just I think
- 44:57Speaker 1: it's harder to pin down who Lebron Jeams is as
- 45:01Speaker 1: a player. For one, because he's been in the league
- 45:04Speaker 1: so long. He's I think his game has just evolved
- 45:06Speaker 1: over time. But two, he's been around so many different
- 45:11Speaker 1: makeups of teams.
- 45:13Speaker 5: Not just one. Yeah, like the Chicago Bulls, that whole team,
- 45:16Speaker 5: they were household names. You could name almost every single player.
- 45:20Speaker 2: You can't even name how many teams Lebron's been to.
- 45:24Speaker 1: Well, well, and I couldn't tell you any any team
- 45:28Speaker 1: that he's been with. I don't think I even know.
- 45:31Speaker 1: I mean, maybe one or two other players that he's
- 45:33Speaker 1: been with. Everybody else, I mean, I don't know I
- 45:36Speaker 1: mean I could tell you who was like on the
- 45:38Speaker 1: bench for the Chicago Bulls and that exactly.
- 45:41Speaker 2: Yes, yes. And here's the other thing.
- 45:46Speaker 3: If he wants an award, okay, and if you're if
- 45:50Speaker 3: you're a Lebron fan, hear me out.
- 45:52Speaker 2: Okay.
- 45:54Speaker 3: If he wants an award, let's give him the award
- 45:57Speaker 3: of acting her Oh.
- 46:00Speaker 5: My gosh, let's give him that award for faking injuries.
- 46:08Speaker 5: Here we go.
- 46:10Speaker 3: I'm as as an as a as an athlete, as
- 46:13Speaker 3: an athlete getting hurt. I'm sitting on the bench. I'm
- 46:18Speaker 3: trying to get myself back out there, like I'm playing
- 46:22Speaker 3: with pins in my wrist because I don't want to
- 46:25Speaker 3: not play. He in this last he's falling and he
- 46:34Speaker 3: hurts his arm. He doesn't even fall on that arm.
- 46:37Speaker 3: And according to who watching the video, they were playing
- 46:41Speaker 3: it on the they're playing here's when when ESPN and
- 46:47Speaker 3: and and all the sports channels are replaying him falling
- 46:52Speaker 3: and him grabbing the.
- 46:54Speaker 2: Arm, it's everywhere.
- 46:58Speaker 3: Yeah, you know what I'm saying, Like you're doing to
- 47:00Speaker 3: a point where everybody knows that you're acting.
- 47:04Speaker 1: The thing that gets me about it, I mean, he's
- 47:06Speaker 1: a small forward that's really in a power forward body.
- 47:09Speaker 1: The dude is six foot nine ye's and he's muscular,
- 47:13Speaker 1: he's got a huge frame. I mean he's really more
- 47:16Speaker 1: of a power forward. When you're that big, why are
- 47:19Speaker 1: you flopping? Why are you flopping like you got those
- 47:26Speaker 1: shoulders tackle a guy?
- 47:28Speaker 3: Yeah, you should be the guy knocking people down. They
- 47:31Speaker 3: should be scared coming around you. You're you're letting the
- 47:34Speaker 3: guy that's six', one one hundred and ninety pounds knock
- 47:39Speaker 3: you over to the to the degree that you need an.
- 47:41Speaker 5: Ambulance and when that's big guy's, fall they fall. HARD
- 47:44Speaker 5: i mean that's part of the problem. TOO i mean
- 47:46Speaker 5: maybe he doesn't he.
- 47:48Speaker 2: Doesn't fall, hard he doesn't fall. Hard he just did.
- 47:52Speaker 2: Not he did not he doesn't fall.
- 47:54Speaker 1: Hard, Well jordan was quicker on his feet. Too plus
- 47:56Speaker 1: he's got those enormous. Paws he can palm the. Ball,
- 48:01Speaker 1: YES i mean would embarrass people doing stuff like. That,
- 48:04Speaker 1: yeah So lebron doesn't have that going for. Him BUT
- 48:07Speaker 1: i MEAN i don't. KNOW i, mean of all the
- 48:09Speaker 1: things that are going to be your, stick, flopping why?
- 48:14Speaker 5: Flopping and Now i'm going to pay attention more to. That,
- 48:18Speaker 5: WELL i was going to SAY i, NEED i need
- 48:20Speaker 5: to watch one of their.
- 48:21Speaker 3: Games we're over our, time BUT i was going to
- 48:23Speaker 3: give you an opportunity to try to defend.
- 48:25Speaker 2: This if you want to defend, it will go over
- 48:27Speaker 2: just a little.
- 48:27Speaker 5: Bit but you know what we can we can we
- 48:29Speaker 5: can go over, there we can go over to really.
- 48:31Speaker 5: QUICK i wanted to touch on the quarterbacks for THE.
- 48:35Speaker 5: Nfl who you thought the goat was for? Quarterbacks really?
- 48:38Speaker 2: Quick?
- 48:38Speaker 5: Oh, Okay, well Because.
- 48:41Speaker 3: I'm Gonna i'm Gonna i'm GONNA i have to Say
- 48:45Speaker 3: montana in his, era in his, Era, Okay i'm gonna Say.
- 48:49Speaker 2: Montana i'm going to stay.
- 48:50Speaker 5: Period, Okay oh, Okay i'm gonna Say.
- 48:54Speaker 2: Daring, well because the game was, different he got, hit but.
- 48:57Speaker 5: You're saying in all, like throughout of all, time even
- 48:59Speaker 5: with game being, different he was still the.
- 49:01Speaker 3: Goat i'm not seen a. Quarterback i'm not seeing a quarterback. Today,
- 49:05Speaker 3: okay hear me. OUT i have not. Heard i've not
- 49:08Speaker 3: seen a quarterback today THAT i think is better Than Joe.
- 49:12Speaker 2: Montana what you?
- 49:14Speaker 5: Okay so you do?
- 49:15Speaker 4: Not?
- 49:15Speaker 5: Okay AND i say this with, great great. Despair this
- 49:19Speaker 5: really hurts my heart to say. This but the goat
- 49:22Speaker 5: for me Is Tom, brady even Though i'm not A
- 49:27Speaker 5: Tom brady. Fan just put it that, Way BUT i
- 49:29Speaker 5: am a fan of his body of. WORK i am.
- 49:32Speaker 2: Too but it's. Not but it's. Not it's not you're saying,
- 49:35Speaker 2: that Not.
- 49:35Speaker 3: Joe it's Not Joe montana because, one it's not in
- 49:38Speaker 3: the same. Era because of, this it's not in the same.
- 49:42Speaker 3: Era and what was going on going on the way.
- 49:45Speaker 5: The game still Say montana had an, edge yes for
- 49:48Speaker 5: goat all, right what do you, Think Matt.
- 49:51Speaker 1: WELL i don't have any disagreements With Joe. MONTANA i
- 49:54Speaker 1: don't have any disagreements With Tom. Brady the third PERSON
- 49:58Speaker 1: i think probably needs to be in that mix Is Steve.
- 50:01Speaker 1: Young Joe montana protege came in and basically just picked
- 50:06Speaker 1: up with the forty nine ers right Where montana left.
- 50:08Speaker 3: OFF i agree and he and he he he made
- 50:11Speaker 3: about nine of, us missed one touchdown and he beat.
- 50:17Speaker 2: US i, CAN i can go with.
- 50:20Speaker 3: Him but If i'm not, mistaken those, two those two
- 50:24Speaker 3: quarterbacks were on the roster at one time And montana was,
- 50:29Speaker 3: playing and so you, KNOW i Think Young young could run.
- 50:34Speaker 3: Better BUT i think to, Me montana was just so,
- 50:39Speaker 3: smart like he could like you. Couldn't you couldn't shake
- 50:43Speaker 3: him in the, defense like you couldn't disguise the. Defense
- 50:45Speaker 3: he finds somebody, who's, oh it's got to be cover.
- 50:49Speaker 3: Three oh, oh they're all showing, that but he's showing.
- 50:53Speaker 3: This he just knew where you. Were like he literally
- 50:57Speaker 3: just beat our defense and we were pretty doll going
- 51:04Speaker 3: good and he beat us because he knew where we.
- 51:08Speaker 1: Were Right, well there ARE i think three that come to.
- 51:12Speaker 1: Mind there might be a few, more but three quarterback
- 51:15Speaker 1: situations passing off the, torch so to. Speak you've Got Montanay, young,
- 51:20Speaker 1: Yep you've Got Brett favre To Aaron. Rodgers you've Got
- 51:23Speaker 1: Drew bledsoe To Tom. Brady, yes, yes, now, yeah those
- 51:29Speaker 1: are situations that are rare where you had a really
- 51:32Speaker 1: great backup quarterback just waiting in the wings longer than
- 51:35Speaker 1: when a lot of players are now are willing to.
- 51:36Speaker 3: WAIT i was going to, say the fact that they
- 51:38Speaker 3: would wait right, there they.
- 51:40Speaker 2: Would wait is.
- 51:41Speaker 3: Critical and if you're a young kid and you're sitting
- 51:44Speaker 3: behind a quarterback that's already, playing.
- 51:46Speaker 2: There's nothing wrong with. That your time can.
- 51:48Speaker 3: Come you need to wait that, out you, know and
- 51:51Speaker 3: and keep working, hard try to outwork. Him can you
- 51:55Speaker 3: imagine having two of any two of those quarterbacks in training.
- 51:59Speaker 5: Camp, no that's that's crazy, Town like, Wow, like who
- 52:06Speaker 5: knows if that will ever happen. AGAIN i mean it, Was.
- 52:09Speaker 2: I'm going to guess.
- 52:10Speaker 1: No, well most of the, time it's the. Opposite you've
- 52:12Speaker 1: got a younger quarterback who was your, stud and then
- 52:16Speaker 1: you've got a veteran quarterback who is just trying to you,
- 52:19Speaker 1: know living in the twilight of their, career that still
- 52:22Speaker 1: has the knowledge but maybe not all of the physical.
- 52:25Speaker 2: Ability, yes that is about where it.
- 52:28Speaker 1: Is Joe, flacco for, example right forty one and you
- 52:31Speaker 1: know two or however old he.
- 52:32Speaker 3: Was, yeah they're still, yeah, yeah, yeah he's he just.
- 52:37Speaker 2: Went a little too.
- 52:37Speaker 1: Long some of them do. THOUGH i, know, YEAH i
- 52:40Speaker 1: know some kids Say Tom brady went too, long but.
- 52:43Speaker 5: Yeah well he was still winning Super bowls when he
- 52:46Speaker 5: when they. RETIRED i mean it's. Crazy he went to
- 52:48Speaker 5: The buccaneers and showed.
- 52:49Speaker 6: Everybody but, oh and to have that kind of impact
- 52:53Speaker 6: when you change your, team like, yeah the whole impact
- 52:56Speaker 6: that you all of a sudden change the team and
- 52:58Speaker 6: now you're going to a Super, Bowl you're getting to.
- 53:00Speaker 2: The last round of the. PLAYOFFS i, mean come, on
- 53:03Speaker 2: that's that's that's.
- 53:04Speaker 5: Mazing and here's the here's the other. Thing and people
- 53:07Speaker 5: are saying, this you, know it's kind of out there
- 53:09Speaker 5: that the future goat of THE nfl quarterbacks will Be Patrick.
- 53:14Speaker 5: Mahomes and they, say because you know he's physically you,
- 53:18Speaker 5: know he's they think he's a little more physically talented Than, brady,
- 53:23Speaker 5: right and he's on pace to Challenge brady's, legacy like
- 53:27Speaker 5: a lot of his, awards a lot of his. STATISTICS i,
- 53:30Speaker 5: Mean i'm not saying that, this you, Know i'm not.
- 53:32Speaker 1: Sure to depend a lot on the next five, years.
- 53:34Speaker 5: Right and whether he can stay. Healthy.
- 53:36Speaker 3: Right i'll say this just to add to your to.
- 53:41Speaker 3: THAT i think he's a great. Quarterback BUT i think
- 53:44Speaker 3: that they're different. Quarterbacks and WHEN i say, DIFFERENT i
- 53:49Speaker 3: Think mahomes is the guy that can move around and
- 53:52Speaker 3: do all these kind of. Things and so now you're
- 53:54Speaker 3: now you're putting him in a category of like A Steve, young,
- 53:58Speaker 3: right more so than you, know a quarterback that A'
- 54:03Speaker 3: montanna who he can move but like he wasn't he
- 54:06Speaker 3: was trying to stay in the pocket and he could
- 54:07Speaker 3: throw the.
- 54:07Speaker 2: BALL i think, generationally LIKE i don't.
- 54:12Speaker 7: KNOW.
- 54:15Speaker 3: I think he take all the stats out of it
- 54:18Speaker 3: and you just have to watch.
- 54:19Speaker 5: It, yeah watch, performances watch the performance.
- 54:22Speaker 2: On the, field watch leadership and all those kinds of.
- 54:24Speaker 3: Things.
- 54:25Speaker 2: Yeah AND i think when you when you.
- 54:27Speaker 3: See, that you, know it's it's easy to see and you're,
- 54:32Speaker 3: like oh, wow, gosh he's like running.
- 54:34Speaker 2: That he's running that, team he's running that. Offense AND
- 54:37Speaker 2: i think there are players who are great, players but
- 54:40Speaker 2: they're not the leaders of the team as a. Quarterback
- 54:43Speaker 2: AND i think that's.
- 54:44Speaker 3: They're not natural and players don't respect him to that.
- 54:48Speaker 3: Degree who's gonna Challenge who's gonna Challenge Tom?
