- 0:00Speaker 1: The Driver's Show with Paul Marriage and Gaudy Waters.
- 0:11Speaker 2: What are you driving.
- 0:12Speaker 1: I've got a twenty fourteen BMW X one which I own,
- 0:18Speaker 1: which I bought off my brother and caught a little
- 0:20Speaker 1: bit on fire. I did it a little bit, but
- 0:23Speaker 1: it's fine.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Not a lot of fire.
- 0:24Speaker 1: No, it was just like, when I got out of
- 0:26Speaker 1: the car, I was like, fuck, it's really smoky in
- 0:28Speaker 1: the Southern Highlands today. It's so weird. They must be
- 0:30Speaker 1: going up. And then I got out of the car
- 0:34Speaker 1: and then I was like the air underneath the cart
- 0:36Speaker 1: was like wavy, yeah, and I'm like that that's a
- 0:39Speaker 1: bit of fire. I'm like, yeah, there is something really
- 0:42Speaker 1: hot in this car. And so I, uh, that's been
- 0:45Speaker 1: in the shop and I don't care to think about.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's still there.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's going to be a very expensive fix.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:53Speaker 1: BMW's. I fucking love them, oh swearing.
- 0:57Speaker 2: This is a Christian podcast. I would prefer if you
- 1:00Speaker 2: didn't in the name of my Jesus.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Okay, that's noted. So I freaking love bnw's. But when
- 1:07Speaker 1: they go off a cliff.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Yeah they're just off man.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Good service though, yeah, not that good. Not twenty fourteen.
- 1:16Speaker 2: In my experience, our great service. I had a mini though,
- 1:18Speaker 2: I had a Mini Cooper.
- 1:19Speaker 1: S yeah baby car.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Yeah okay, and they yeah, they were were always really nice. Hey.
- 1:26Speaker 2: By the way, the weird thing is it might seem
- 1:29Speaker 2: that paul is absent. I'm so sorry. It's been quite
- 1:32Speaker 2: a while between recordings. Basically, paul is no longer killed him. Yeah,
- 1:39Speaker 2: well you have so Basically what you're hearing now is
- 1:43Speaker 2: Pauline Pavlo has transitioned, which is nice.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Thank you, congratulations, Thank you so much for being such
- 1:50Speaker 1: a supportive workplace for this. It was a big decision,
- 1:53Speaker 1: but I'm definitely a better person.
- 1:55Speaker 2: For they did. They love it off properly, Like, is
- 1:58Speaker 2: that something you can bring in on the trail?
- 2:00Speaker 1: I think that you're not allowed to ask that question.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Why not because the rules say cart but yes, it's gone,
- 2:06Speaker 1: it's gone. Is that like it's gone.
- 2:08Speaker 2: We can't call midgets midgets like we call it like
- 2:11Speaker 2: dwarfs midgets or whatever.
- 2:13Speaker 1: I can't be canceled on this podcast. It's too early
- 2:16Speaker 1: for me to be canceled on this podcast as Paulina.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Paul is dead, but Paulina has a clean slate.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Wait, till Donna finds out. So, yes, Steph Coombs is
- 2:26Speaker 2: here journalist speaking of transitioning. I guess we could say
- 2:30Speaker 2: you're making the transition into there's a lot of car
- 2:33Speaker 2: journalism going on in your life.
- 2:35Speaker 1: There is, you know, because like truly at the core
- 2:39Speaker 1: of myself as a person and is a media professional.
- 2:41Speaker 1: I'm actually a grifter, okay, a through and through grifter,
- 2:44Speaker 1: And so I am. I'm grifting out of podcasting and
- 2:48Speaker 1: other stuff, and I'm grifting towards car media, which is
- 2:51Speaker 1: my preferred area at the moment.
- 2:54Speaker 2: I don't know what grifting means. It sounds like a
- 2:55Speaker 2: subject on you, pawn.
- 2:57Speaker 1: It's like, if you're grifting, you know, you're sort of
- 2:59Speaker 1: you're like a traveling salesman.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Oh yeah, you know, like, oh yeah, like a riverboat dandy.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Thank you, thank you.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Yes, I've always thought of you as a riverboat dandy.
- 3:11Speaker 1: That's how I see myself.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Because general stuff comes with her letters.
- 3:15Speaker 1: What can I do, precisely give me a car? Yeah yeah,
- 3:20Speaker 1: So at the moment, I just I just like cars.
- 3:22Speaker 1: And it turns out that you can get paid to
- 3:25Speaker 1: do this, Yeah, sure to work that bit out, Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 3:28Speaker 1: Well some of us.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Can some of you can. You not me, And you
- 3:31Speaker 2: can tell by the way. You can actually tell that
- 3:33Speaker 2: STEP's the pro at this because she's the one with
- 3:35Speaker 2: the laptop and I'm just scribbling shit on paper.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Well, I'm googling what is car?
- 3:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I look like I look like a nineteen eighties
- 3:44Speaker 2: journalist who's just like finishing the story on the bottom
- 3:46Speaker 2: of his car, like, yeah, submit, submit, I say, I
- 3:51Speaker 2: just I'm basically Trevor Long. I'll just yell my review
- 3:54Speaker 2: out on the top of the town hall steps. Do
- 3:58Speaker 2: you know who Trevor Long is? I do actually surprised
- 4:01Speaker 2: many people do. No.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Back in my talk back radio days. Another thing that
- 4:06Speaker 1: I used to do. He was our tech reporter, I
- 4:08Speaker 1: think when I was working at two GB. Wow, I know,
- 4:12Speaker 1: I know, I've been everywhere.
- 4:13Speaker 2: And I love the whole time. Trevor's still just been
- 4:15Speaker 2: a tech reporter. Have you ever known as that Trevor
- 4:18Speaker 2: Long just looks like a court drawing of a homeless person.
- 4:24Speaker 1: No, I haven't noticed that.
- 4:28Speaker 2: No, Well take another look.
- 4:30Speaker 1: I don't want to am I starting a fight with
- 4:32Speaker 1: Trevor now? Well, if you got to, I feel like
- 4:35Speaker 1: this is a long standing fight you have with Trevor.
- 4:37Speaker 2: I've got no problems with trev You just called him a.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Court reporter sketch of a homeless person. Yeah, that feels
- 4:43Speaker 1: like you've got a fight.
- 4:44Speaker 2: No no, no, no, no, it's not a fight unless
- 4:46Speaker 2: it's accurate and facts were good.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Okay, that's good.
- 4:50Speaker 2: That's good. Hey, I wanted to talk to you about
- 4:53Speaker 2: the kid Tasman because the launch has happened. You got
- 4:57Speaker 2: to go. I talk driving impressions. I don't really know
- 5:01Speaker 2: too much about this car. They have released prices now right,
- 5:04Speaker 2: they have indeed, so we know prices, we know it's
- 5:07Speaker 2: out there. We know there could be other variants coming.
- 5:10Speaker 2: We know it was designed by a guy called fuck it.
- 5:15Speaker 2: That'll do, Damon, just submit it. We know that.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Do we want to do? We want to talk pricing
- 5:20Speaker 1: because I have actually got it up.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, you've done with.
- 5:23Speaker 1: I mean not up. It's all in my head. I'm
- 5:24Speaker 1: so good at this stuff. So you've got about ten
- 5:26Speaker 1: variants coming, right, So at the top of the line,
- 5:30Speaker 1: you've got the x Pro and that's that is a
- 5:34Speaker 1: like a really solid off roading car.
- 5:36Speaker 2: And that does look good. I will say that one.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Definitely looks better than I think a lot of the
- 5:41Speaker 1: S line, which which has a much bigger nose on it.
- 5:46Speaker 1: So the X Pro that's going to be about seventy
- 5:49Speaker 1: five thousand dollars before on road costs and then right
- 5:53Speaker 1: at the other end. But but for that as well,
- 5:54Speaker 1: like you get all the you know, the transmission lock,
- 5:57Speaker 1: you've got the low gear range, you've got cameras that
- 5:59Speaker 1: look at the floor when you're driving. I found that
- 6:02Speaker 1: to be not at all useful, but really not. Even
- 6:04Speaker 1: SI couldn't see it, couldn't see it. It was. It
- 6:07Speaker 1: was too mushy to sort of make much of an
- 6:08Speaker 1: impression anythink. But you know, I'm also not great at offerating.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Someone else who's better than me might get more use
- 6:14Speaker 1: out of it.
- 6:14Speaker 2: So it's the sports bars and stuff like that on it.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Because I saw it with the sports bar, I'm like,
- 6:19Speaker 2: that better be. You've got a factory like look.
- 6:22Speaker 1: I think that there are accessories. You've asked me a
- 6:25Speaker 1: specific question which I have not prepared for. I could lie,
- 6:28Speaker 1: I don't know the answers.
- 6:29Speaker 2: To make this ship.
- 6:31Speaker 1: It's not like I sat in like three press conferences
- 6:34Speaker 1: and was specifically told that information but at that point,
- 6:37Speaker 1: you know, I was probably playing snake on my phone
- 6:38Speaker 1: or something.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Do you know when they first launched this in tazzy
- 6:42Speaker 2: funny enough.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Tasmanism what they did there.
- 6:47Speaker 2: The PR team are fucking geniuses. So someone it was
- 6:54Speaker 2: literally like the Homo Simpson car. One of the press Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:59Speaker 2: So one of the rest journalists put the hand up.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Possibly could have been Dave McCowan. I'm not sure, but
- 7:06Speaker 2: they said.
- 7:07Speaker 1: My editor, yes, great guy.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Yeah. The first question was is it too late to
- 7:13Speaker 2: change the design? And the designer was there and he's like, yes.
- 7:20Speaker 1: That is superb. That's that is that is a bold
- 7:23Speaker 1: first question.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I love that.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Well, look, the design is controversial. You can't go online
- 7:29Speaker 1: without people talking about it. I reckon the S and
- 7:33Speaker 1: the SX variant are uglier than the X line X
- 7:38Speaker 1: line Pro.
- 7:40Speaker 2: I think the X line pro is definitely to pick
- 7:42Speaker 2: from what I've.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Heard, and you know, who am I to spread gossip
- 7:46Speaker 1: on this fine established journalistic podcast that we're on. From
- 7:51Speaker 1: from what I was told, do you say that? Just
- 7:56Speaker 1: do you say that?
- 7:57Speaker 2: Paul? I do, actually, and he does. And let me
- 8:00Speaker 2: tell you that the kind of guy who would that
- 8:02Speaker 2: press fruit bowl that he does on the glass of
- 8:04Speaker 2: that studio door.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Let's just say, hey, I touched that with my hands before.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Was out of season. Let me just say that there
- 8:12Speaker 2: is a fruit fruit.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Again. I really hope that you guys wipe that down
- 8:18Speaker 1: nice and well. Yes, no. So the rumor, the interesting
- 8:21Speaker 1: rumor that I was told from a couple of people,
- 8:24Speaker 1: is that there were a few designs right, and there
- 8:27Speaker 1: was a design that was sort of unanimously preferred, and
- 8:31Speaker 1: they were like, it's that one. And then there was
- 8:35Speaker 1: a captain's call further up in the head office and
- 8:37Speaker 1: they're like, nut, we're going for this ugly one because
- 8:42Speaker 1: it's and they wanted something that was really bold. And
- 8:45Speaker 1: you can't deny that it is a bold design. It
- 8:48Speaker 1: is something that stands out, and they have to do
- 8:52Speaker 1: something that stands out because they are late to the
- 8:54Speaker 1: game and they're in a very crowded market and what
- 8:57Speaker 1: they're offering, I think is not a bad off, but
- 9:01Speaker 1: only marginally better I think than what's already out there.
- 9:04Speaker 1: And people can debate that that it it hasn't gone
- 9:06Speaker 1: far enough and whatnot. They said at the launch, because
- 9:11Speaker 1: I did ask the question, I'm like, I mean, this
- 9:14Speaker 1: is all anyone's talking about is the way this looks.
- 9:16Speaker 1: I mean, you're concerned about that coming out to the launch,
- 9:18Speaker 1: and they said, look, we think that the angst there
- 9:21Speaker 1: was not mine. The angst about the looks of this
- 9:23Speaker 1: will go down when people see it on the road.
- 9:26Speaker 2: I agree with that, but I do too.
- 9:28Speaker 1: I do too.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I think what's going to happen is after time.
- 9:31Speaker 2: This is like a design that is, no doubt polarizing,
- 9:35Speaker 2: polarizing both, but I think it'll soften by the time
- 9:41Speaker 2: people kind of get used to it and see it
- 9:42Speaker 2: on the roads. Another thing that Key's got to realize is, well,
- 9:46Speaker 2: people have got to realize Key has really transition their
- 9:49Speaker 2: design language a lot. Like you look at the everything
- 9:52Speaker 2: from the Evning nine and downwards the Key at K
- 9:55Speaker 2: four or that. Now they've come up with this you
- 9:57Speaker 2: and it really kind of has to set in that
- 10:00Speaker 2: design language that they're coming out with.
- 10:02Speaker 1: It does, and it's also tricky because they have to
- 10:05Speaker 1: very quickly establish themselves as blokey. And this is a
- 10:10Speaker 1: hard thing because I think of care and I think
- 10:12Speaker 1: of sensible, nice lady cars for driving, you know around,
- 10:16Speaker 1: And you.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Know, I had had a care Stinger that's not Is
- 10:19Speaker 2: that a senseable lady car? I'd like to think it is.
- 10:22Speaker 2: I would like to.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Think which was a great car, great engine. A couple
- 10:27Speaker 1: of people said like, couldn't you put the Stinger engine
- 10:28Speaker 1: in the Tasman because it's you know, but but they haven't,
- 10:32Speaker 1: didn't they.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Hey, by the way, with that, I think they used
- 10:35Speaker 2: the same one they're putting in the yan Day Palisade.
- 10:39Speaker 2: I don't know for sure. I've thrown thrown that one
- 10:42Speaker 2: out there.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I love it. How I have not prepared for
- 10:45Speaker 1: any of these things, like, you know, trying to look
- 10:46Speaker 1: like I know what I'm talking about. Look, it is
- 10:48Speaker 1: a two point two liter four cylinder engine, which is
- 10:54Speaker 1: and I didn't feel like it was.
- 10:55Speaker 2: And did they talk about the toying on that they did?
- 10:58Speaker 1: But but you know what, towing is complicated, isn't it.
- 11:00Speaker 1: So it was like it's three point five when when
- 11:03Speaker 1: we towed something around it, it felt we were towing
- 11:05Speaker 1: around a two ton caravan. It felt fine. For all
- 11:08Speaker 1: of these utes, they do over promise and you have
- 11:11Speaker 1: to be a little bit careful about what your rear
- 11:13Speaker 1: axle can actually take. So if you're doing any sort
- 11:16Speaker 1: of serious towing. Think, is there any dual cab you
- 11:19Speaker 1: that you really would trust?
- 11:21Speaker 2: There's only there's only one when it comes to towing
- 11:24Speaker 2: that I fully fully trust, and that is the BYD Shark,
- 11:29Speaker 2: Because yeah, I mean that is just a piece of
- 11:34Speaker 2: engineer and genius in the towing department, in the off
- 11:36Speaker 2: road department. I'm being cynical, but yeah, look, so hey,
- 11:42Speaker 2: one thing I did love about the Key Tasmin, especially
- 11:45Speaker 2: in the Expro, the interior on this is really cool.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Like it is they've taken the bloky ute and they've
- 11:51Speaker 2: made it look really posh, like it's really well set out.
- 11:55Speaker 1: It's the interior and a lot of people were saying
- 11:57Speaker 1: this is like you know, you're you're looking that they've
- 11:59Speaker 1: just signed interior out in a lot of ways. So
- 12:02Speaker 1: you've got a really nice entertainment system in the x Pro.
- 12:04Speaker 1: You've got this sort of faux leather not actual leather.
- 12:06Speaker 1: But the seats are really comfortable, electric seats, heated seats,
- 12:11Speaker 1: which which is the one thing, the one thing which
- 12:14Speaker 1: is a non negotiable for me, heated seats.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I cannot go back. I refuse to go I
- 12:20Speaker 2: love them. Yeah, Okay, some people don't like them. My
- 12:23Speaker 2: mistress goes, don't check the heated seats on It makes
- 12:25Speaker 2: me want to poo. I'm like, to be honest with you,
- 12:28Speaker 2: everything makes you poop. We could have any you could
- 12:30Speaker 2: walk past.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Have you got it at like the cooling seats, maybe
- 12:34Speaker 1: it would do the opposite can make yeah. Yeah, But
- 12:38Speaker 1: the heated seats in the in the front and in
- 12:40Speaker 1: the back in the Expro, which I thought was a
- 12:43Speaker 1: nice little and the back seats actually had a reasonable
- 12:46Speaker 1: recline on them too, so because usually the back row
- 12:48Speaker 1: is just miserable in these dual cabs, but the back
- 12:51Speaker 1: row was quite roomy. The car is very large as well.
- 12:56Speaker 2: How does it stuck up to, say, like the BYD
- 12:59Speaker 2: Shark for instance, I'll go back to that. But yeah,
- 13:01Speaker 2: I think it's actually not a bad car. But it's
- 13:03Speaker 2: a bloody big bugger. Does it feel big?
- 13:06Speaker 1: It feels big, and it is marginally larger than a
- 13:10Speaker 1: lot of these big uts that are on the roads.
- 13:12Speaker 1: I think you need that, right, like, if you're going
- 13:14Speaker 1: to have like a comfortable back row and if you're
- 13:16Speaker 1: going to be sort of try and separate yourself on
- 13:20Speaker 1: the market, like and they needed it to be big,
- 13:23Speaker 1: and they needed it to be bloken. You just need
- 13:25Speaker 1: to look at the ads right to see how they're
- 13:27Speaker 1: trying to position themselves in the market.
- 13:29Speaker 2: All the sports people cameo is like it's a happy
- 13:31Speaker 2: Gilmore Too movie.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Can I tell you a story about the launch? Go
- 13:34Speaker 1: on the second night there was Tasman Town and we
- 13:37Speaker 1: had no idea what Tasmin Town was.
- 13:39Speaker 2: And so you need a map Tasi to get around
- 13:41Speaker 2: Tasman down.
- 13:42Speaker 1: I'm not answering that. So Tasman Town. As it turned out,
- 13:46Speaker 1: they've taken over the town of Sephala, right, and where
- 13:49Speaker 1: is that near bathist Sophala? Beautiful mining town, very small
- 13:52Speaker 1: town only has like one hundred and fifty people population.
- 13:55Speaker 2: I lived in Orange for a couple of months.
- 13:57Speaker 1: I should know it. It's like around the corner from Oreckon. Yeah,
- 14:00Speaker 1: couldn't give a ship, but we were dropped off there
- 14:03Speaker 1: and the night were you abducted, it felt a little
- 14:08Speaker 1: bit like a launch.
- 14:09Speaker 2: You were at some wind.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Carrying my trauma and you just have to receive the trauma.
- 14:15Speaker 2: I feel like you're in a cult.
- 14:17Speaker 1: It felt it was an interesting night because they brought
- 14:20Speaker 1: in all these sports stars who were there, Like Volkanovsky
- 14:24Speaker 1: was there, Alex Volkanowski, the UFC guy, Boonie was there.
- 14:28Speaker 2: I mean, they got all these dudes go on regional.
- 14:31Speaker 1: There were nine of them, and I didn't know half
- 14:33Speaker 1: of the unless it's a racing driver, I don't know
- 14:35Speaker 1: any of these people. But they brought all these guys
- 14:37Speaker 1: in and it was I would describe it as like
- 14:40Speaker 1: live improvisation theater. And I would sooner gnaw off my
- 14:44Speaker 1: own hand often than deal with that, because I find
- 14:46Speaker 1: that very quick, you know, uncomfortable. So you're going in
- 14:48Speaker 1: and and all these guys are assuming the characters that
- 14:51Speaker 1: they've been playing in the ads, so like Volkanovsky is
- 14:55Speaker 1: like the chef, and like Boonie is that it's Boonie's
- 14:57Speaker 1: Bakery in there. And so the town mayor who was
- 15:00Speaker 1: in the ads is like, oh, you know, hello you newcomers, like,
- 15:03Speaker 1: come along and I'll introduce you to your neighbors. And
- 15:07Speaker 1: have you ever did you ever go to old Sydney Town?
- 15:10Speaker 2: Yes, imagine that we had something when I was growing up,
- 15:13Speaker 2: because I grew up in Melbourne. We we've got something
- 15:15Speaker 2: there called Sovereign Hill and it's very it's a very
- 15:18Speaker 2: similar vibe I reckon exactly that.
- 15:20Speaker 1: So imagine those sort of like historical open air museums
- 15:23Speaker 1: or whatever, only it's it's Tasman Town and a sporting
- 15:27Speaker 1: style lineup that you and I know, Volkanovsky and the
- 15:29Speaker 1: rest of them, and Boonie because like it's Boonie.
- 15:32Speaker 2: It's Booney, it's boonievb bubblehead.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Yeah, yes, yes, legend and everyone else. This was a
- 15:39Speaker 1: very very stressful time for me because like I'm talking
- 15:41Speaker 1: to people like do I know you from a carllege
- 15:43Speaker 1: or are you some Australian sporting legend. I should absolutely know. Anyway,
- 15:47Speaker 1: I'm just in this heightened state of anxiety and then you.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Put a lot of pressure on yourself.
- 15:52Speaker 1: You are right, no, I'm not giving you a check down.
- 15:54Speaker 1: It gets worse, it gets worse. So where finally there's
- 15:57Speaker 1: a sit down dinner part and I'm like, oh, thank
- 15:59Speaker 1: you know now now it's over. Like I'm sitting down
- 16:01Speaker 1: and so this guy sits next to me and he's like,
- 16:06Speaker 1: I'm Nathan, who are you? And I'm like, holy hell,
- 16:09Speaker 1: that's pretty aggressive starting thing. I thought he was just
- 16:12Speaker 1: sort of like a brash card journo. So I'm like
- 16:14Speaker 1: I'm Stephanie. Who are you? And then he said, oh,
- 16:16Speaker 1: I'm Nathan. Heind marsh, I'm one of the footballers. Also,
- 16:20Speaker 1: I said how are you?
- 16:22Speaker 2: What's wrong with that?
- 16:23Speaker 1: It didn't I thought he said who are you? And
- 16:25Speaker 1: he said how are you? So I just beat a
- 16:27Speaker 1: massive bitch to him and I'm like, oh, mate, I'm
- 16:30Speaker 1: so sorry. I don't know anyone here.
- 16:31Speaker 2: I thought you said, let's recreate that, right. Yeah, we're
- 16:35Speaker 2: sitting at We're sitting at dinner.
- 16:37Speaker 1: It's nice and.
- 16:39Speaker 2: You're just going about your business here, hey going, I'm Nathan,
- 16:43Speaker 2: how are you?
- 16:45Speaker 1: And I say, I'm Stephanie.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Who are you? Oh? And he was like, I'm fucking
- 16:51Speaker 2: Nathan from the bloody shitty football club.
- 16:54Speaker 1: He wasn't like that.
- 16:55Speaker 2: He was sorry bloody got involved in that case. A
- 16:58Speaker 2: couple of years back. We can't talk. But on whatever
- 17:01Speaker 2: job on Celebrity Apprentice.
- 17:03Speaker 1: He was so nice. He was such a lovely bloke, Nathan,
- 17:06Speaker 1: and he was he was very good human about the
- 17:07Speaker 1: holding in that situation. I was the bad guy.
- 17:11Speaker 2: You single or what.
- 17:15Speaker 1: He talked about his wife and his kids. It was wholesome,
- 17:17Speaker 1: but it was a nice story. In that story, I'm
- 17:19Speaker 1: the bad guy. I'm the bad guy.
- 17:21Speaker 2: He's a good guy.
- 17:22Speaker 1: He's the good guy.
- 17:22Speaker 2: All right. So anyway, so you got on.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Yeah I got through. But but you could sense how
- 17:29Speaker 1: much time and money had been sort of spent on.
- 17:32Speaker 2: This and he's basically he's a stripper. He's been paid
- 17:36Speaker 2: to talk to you and were you don't know.
- 17:41Speaker 1: I don't know if they'd like that, but.
- 17:42Speaker 2: They do, like a lot of things on their podcast.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Trust me, I'm doing okay. It's fine. You don't need
- 17:47Speaker 2: to stress. You're in safe hands. We can say what
- 17:50Speaker 2: we like.
- 17:51Speaker 1: I just I don't necessarily endorse the messages that are
- 17:54Speaker 1: coming out of this podcast. But yeah, it was It
- 17:56Speaker 1: was a really seriously like expensive and and ritzy and
- 18:00Speaker 1: quite a nice event. But it gave you a sense
- 18:04Speaker 1: of just how much they need this to work, and
- 18:07Speaker 1: they need it to work, and they need to align
- 18:08Speaker 1: themselves with like blokes and trade's and sporting stars, and
- 18:13Speaker 1: they've got to build credibility really quick. And I think
- 18:16Speaker 1: their car is good. It drove well. The off roading
- 18:19Speaker 1: was really good. It's really smart. When you get off
- 18:22Speaker 1: the tarmac, it does a lot of the thinking for you.
- 18:25Speaker 1: I think four years ago, this car would have been
- 18:29Speaker 1: a smash hit.
- 18:30Speaker 2: I think like seventy five thousand dollars at the moment
- 18:33Speaker 2: for a Kia and you're dealing with the trade's I
- 18:37Speaker 2: think that's fine. I think, like, I mean, it's kind
- 18:39Speaker 2: of it's somewhat priced competitively. It's going up against a
- 18:42Speaker 2: lot of established blokey brands that are out there, and
- 18:46Speaker 2: I don't know, it's a shaky one. We're gonna wait
- 18:48Speaker 2: and see on this.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Yeah, well they want to they want to be number four,
- 18:51Speaker 1: So they want to.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Be number four.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what the target. Well, but like to be fair,
- 18:57Speaker 1: like they're up against the Highlucks, the Ranger, Azuzu D Max. Yes,
- 19:01Speaker 1: so like four is good. But when you look at
- 19:04Speaker 1: the BYD Shark, Yeah, I actually that's where their competition is.
- 19:08Speaker 1: I think, And I reckon, I reckon. It's hard to
- 19:11Speaker 1: come in with a diesel ute when there's a lot
- 19:14Speaker 1: of diesel uts doing a good job that are established
- 19:17Speaker 1: and you know what their resale value is, Whereas like
- 19:20Speaker 1: BYD comes in with a plug in hybrid and you're like,
- 19:23Speaker 1: well that's that's a compelling different offer.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Yeah, but this kid Tasman can do a lot of
- 19:27Speaker 2: things that the BYD can't do.
- 19:29Speaker 1: I haven't driven the BYD.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah. Look I like them, like
- 19:33Speaker 2: we joke about them a bit on the podcast. I'm
- 19:36Speaker 2: a bad fanboy, Like I freaking think the Seal Performance
- 19:39Speaker 2: is an excellent EV. They make great cars in fact,
- 19:43Speaker 2: like if I was to pick an EV, it would
- 19:45Speaker 2: be at the top of the top of the pile somewhere.
- 19:47Speaker 2: But I think where they went wrong with the Shark
- 19:49Speaker 2: is they advertised it as a fun off road car
- 19:52Speaker 2: as well, and you can see that in their advertising.
- 19:56Speaker 2: And I don't know, I wouldn't confidently take this. I'd probably,
- 20:00Speaker 2: you know, I think it'd be fine on the sand
- 20:02Speaker 2: on the beach possibly, But that's where I kind of
- 20:05Speaker 2: draw the line. And look, Paul will tell you he
- 20:07Speaker 2: had a lot of problems going up test hills and
- 20:10Speaker 2: stuff like that with that car. So yeah, it's a
- 20:13Speaker 2: little bit shaky with the off road hill climbing and
- 20:16Speaker 2: stuff like that. But I think as a daily you know,
- 20:19Speaker 2: you want to check stuff in the back of a car,
- 20:21Speaker 2: you need to cut the kids around. I think it's
- 20:23Speaker 2: actually great. The tech, it's good, it feels bougie, it's
- 20:26Speaker 2: really competitively priced, like compared to the top of the
- 20:30Speaker 2: line Kia Tasmin say the x Pro, this is like
- 20:33Speaker 2: ten grand cheaper. Yeah on road, oh god, if that
- 20:37Speaker 2: could even be fifteen.
- 20:38Speaker 1: I will say that the Tasman was really good offer it.
- 20:42Speaker 1: I'm not an experienced off road driver, and so I
- 20:44Speaker 1: thought that this car was going to have to do
- 20:46Speaker 1: a lot of thinking for me if we were going
- 20:47Speaker 1: to not roll it. And sure enough it really did.
- 20:50Speaker 1: It's only got a rear diff lock, which is a
- 20:53Speaker 1: slightly limiting factor, but the traction control it is so
- 20:56Speaker 1: smart that it does manage just to really chew through
- 20:59Speaker 1: some fairly rugged roads.
- 21:02Speaker 2: You're a rugged person, I am.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Can't you tell?
- 21:05Speaker 2: I can tell so tough.
- 21:07Speaker 1: I'm so tough.
- 21:08Speaker 2: It's so tough. You know what you need?
- 21:10Speaker 1: What do I need?
- 21:10Speaker 2: A Genesis? I had a Genesis. I went on a
- 21:15Speaker 2: cute little road driven by Genesis GV eighty coop, as
- 21:18Speaker 2: Stephan likes to call it now, a Genesis. I took
- 21:22Speaker 2: it down from Sydney to Melbourne and then up into
- 21:25Speaker 2: the Victorian Highlands. We took its skiing stop LUs Yeah,
- 21:32Speaker 2: very lucks, I tell you what. This was one of
- 21:36Speaker 2: the best SUVs I've ever driven. Really, Oh my god,
- 21:40Speaker 2: it's so good. It's so good twin Turbov six. So
- 21:44Speaker 2: it's kind of got that. I guess the Stinger engine
- 21:46Speaker 2: in it. It's got a really strong engine. It's just
- 21:49Speaker 2: got all the lucks. It looks good. Mine was like this,
- 21:51Speaker 2: Matt Green and yeah, the coup at the back is
- 21:55Speaker 2: definitely the best looking Genesis out there.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Think about the Genesis is that like I always look
- 22:00Speaker 1: at that car and I'm like, what is that car?
- 22:02Speaker 2: What do you mean?
- 22:03Speaker 1: They're a bit of like a mishmash of other cars.
- 22:06Speaker 2: They're not.
- 22:06Speaker 1: I look at them and I'm like, oh, you are
- 22:08Speaker 1: an amalgamation of every car on the road. I love
- 22:11Speaker 1: a bit of a Yeah. I mean, look there, they're fine.
- 22:16Speaker 2: They're fine, They're fine.
- 22:17Speaker 1: I'm sure they're beautiful on the road. But I don't
- 22:19Speaker 1: get if I see a Genesis going by, I'm not like,
- 22:21Speaker 1: holy hell, really there goes a Genesis.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Oh my god.
- 22:24Speaker 1: I kind of think of them as like TMU Bentley's
- 22:27Speaker 1: real tu Bentley's like with the the way that the
- 22:30Speaker 1: wings kind of flare out on the Genesis badge and
- 22:33Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, yeah, who are you trying to fall
- 22:36Speaker 1: you know, it's like they're kind of pretending to be
- 22:40Speaker 1: a fancier car than they are. I don't respect that.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Really, I don't respect you.
- 22:45Speaker 1: I don't.
- 22:46Speaker 2: But you know what terrible things about my Genesis, you
- 22:49Speaker 2: little bitch. Get out of here.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Put me. I haven't I haven't driven one. Maybe there
- 22:54Speaker 1: you go.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Get out of here, you fucking hussy.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Because you look at it. You look at it and
- 23:01Speaker 1: you're like, oh, is that a nice car? And then yes, yes,
- 23:05Speaker 1: and you're like, oh, it's a Genesis.
- 23:07Speaker 2: It's a great car. What's wrong with it? It's not
- 23:11Speaker 2: you haven't even driven one.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I know.
- 23:13Speaker 2: I'm going to give you some homework. You need to
- 23:14Speaker 2: drive one. Drive the GV eighty Coop sports Back whatever
- 23:19Speaker 2: they call it, and then get back to me.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Because I'm happy to eat my words on that one.
- 23:24Speaker 2: It is kitted out and it is fantastic, and it
- 23:28Speaker 2: drives just as well as a BMW X six. Yeah. Yeah,
- 23:35Speaker 2: does it look as good though, Yes it does. It
- 23:37Speaker 2: looks fantastic. It looks really good. It's not bullshit. How
- 23:41Speaker 2: dare you?
- 23:42Speaker 1: I can't believe we're having our first fight?
- 23:43Speaker 2: We are? I love it? Hey, I'm going to say
- 23:47Speaker 2: a couple of names of cars right that I've driven
- 23:49Speaker 2: and I know you've driven, and then you can stop
- 23:52Speaker 2: on one and tell me where we could talk about.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Are you ready? Mazda m X five. Next, I'll get
- 23:59Speaker 2: back to that gmc dnali you came.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Yeah, how long did you have the car for?
- 24:10Speaker 2: All? Right? This is a pissing contest, or is it?
- 24:13Speaker 1: You would win?
- 24:14Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 24:15Speaker 1: I've got a strong, steady stream.
- 24:18Speaker 2: I was afraid of what you're going to say. Then
- 24:20Speaker 2: I've got a strong name.
- 24:23Speaker 1: I like cars, man, it's all suspects.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Yeah, sorry, what was your question? I was too busy
- 24:29Speaker 2: thinking about you.
- 24:30Speaker 1: How long my schlong? How long did you have the
- 24:33Speaker 1: Yukon Force?
- 24:34Speaker 2: I had it for a week? Yeah, yeah, which is
- 24:36Speaker 2: pretty standard.
- 24:37Speaker 1: So I was only there for the launch of that car,
- 24:39Speaker 1: so I didn't have it for a very long time.
- 24:41Speaker 1: But I really enjoyed it when we were driving around
- 24:44Speaker 1: sort of the back area, sort of camera and whatever,
- 24:46Speaker 1: and like big country roads. It's like driving a couch.
- 24:50Speaker 2: The thing is with that car. It is so big.
- 24:52Speaker 2: In fact, I think it's actually the biggest suv in
- 24:55Speaker 2: Australia on sale right now for a bloody large car
- 25:00Speaker 2: feels like a piece of piss to drive.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Absolutely, it's so easy.
- 25:04Speaker 2: And it's it's such a joy, and it's such a
- 25:07Speaker 2: shame that like these American yank tanks, whatever you want
- 25:11Speaker 2: to call them, they're getting a bad name, like, oh,
- 25:12Speaker 2: they don't fit on Australian bloody roads. Oh they don't
- 25:15Speaker 2: fit in Australian bloody shopping shirt of car parks. Yes
- 25:18Speaker 2: they do. Shut up, shut your fat, bloody Northern lager,
- 25:24Speaker 2: bloody great Northern drinking fat, prostate cancer hole. I can
- 25:31Speaker 2: say that my dad has prostate cancer.
- 25:32Speaker 1: But oh well, now you brought the tone down twice.
- 25:35Speaker 2: No I haven't, I've brought the tone up, but just
- 25:38Speaker 2: just shut up. It's a great, big, fat American car
- 25:41Speaker 2: and we need to see more.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Of I don't know, man, driving that, I loved it
- 25:45Speaker 1: when I was out in the country, but like driving
- 25:47Speaker 1: that back to Merrickville was white knuckle.
- 25:49Speaker 2: Oh yeah, driving around Sydney. I took that to I
- 25:52Speaker 2: took that to the work car park, which is think
- 25:56Speaker 2: think like Meriton Sweets style. Usually my Genesis loves it,
- 26:02Speaker 2: but this Denali I couldn't fit it in and I
- 26:05Speaker 2: had to drive it home and I had to get
- 26:07Speaker 2: an uber into work. So there is okay, the big
- 26:10Speaker 2: fat idiots, So saying doesn't fit in Astrolian car parks.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Okay, that's yeah, some some astral city city driving.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, you've had your way. But like whatever, it's.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Very it's it's the cost of it is a bit inhibitive,
- 26:22Speaker 1: like it's it's it's so expensive.
- 26:24Speaker 2: What is it like one hundred and seventy yeah.
- 26:26Speaker 1: Sixteen hundred, sixty hundred and seventy, like it is an
- 26:28Speaker 1: outrageously expected car. And but if you are a rouse
- 26:32Speaker 1: hill bogan, don't say that. I'm sorry that is that
- 26:35Speaker 1: is a that is a Hills District aspirational car.
- 26:38Speaker 2: I think it's a cashed up man car.
- 26:40Speaker 1: You've got five you've got five acres and you've got two.
- 26:45Speaker 1: It could be on the gold kids that hate you. Yeah,
- 26:48Speaker 1: and then you've got no, it's a it's a Hills
- 26:50Speaker 1: District broken car.
- 26:51Speaker 2: There is nothing Bogan about that car.
- 26:54Speaker 1: There is nothing UKONDINALI.
- 26:57Speaker 2: Yes, it looks slightly it is like.
- 27:00Speaker 1: It's obnoxiously large, it's ridiculous on the roads. It is
- 27:06Speaker 1: you know, overpowered and heavy, it's overpowered. Well it's it's
- 27:10Speaker 1: it's powered enough size. Look, it was it was fun
- 27:13Speaker 1: to drive. I found the breaking a bit tricky on
- 27:15Speaker 1: that car. Actually, did you find that? Like when I
- 27:17Speaker 1: when I hit the brakes, I felt like it sort
- 27:19Speaker 1: of was a bit touchier than I was expecting.
- 27:23Speaker 2: No, not really, I found it just maybe I'm just
- 27:25Speaker 2: a shit driver. Yeah, I just found it absolute joy.
- 27:27Speaker 2: Like I took that. I did city and like I
- 27:30Speaker 2: took it on a few road trips and stuff. And look,
- 27:33Speaker 2: if you have a big block of land, if you've
- 27:35Speaker 2: got an acreage and you don't need to drive into
- 27:37Speaker 2: the city, this is a great car, just because the
- 27:40Speaker 2: city comes with issues. But yeah, I don't I don't
- 27:44Speaker 2: think there is anything Boganish. If you're gonna say Bogan,
- 27:47Speaker 2: I kind of think, like fucking you could throw anything.
- 27:51Speaker 2: You could put a bloody commodore or something like that's Bogan.
- 27:54Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, this this is this is new
- 27:56Speaker 1: money Bogan car. I will die on that. I grew
- 28:01Speaker 1: up at the supercars, Like I'm a secret bogn Hills history.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Like I'm not fighting any of this. It's not a
- 28:06Speaker 1: bad thing, but that is I reckon. That's who their
- 28:09Speaker 1: market is.
- 28:09Speaker 2: So what if if a cash that person like with
- 28:13Speaker 2: a bit of a bit of soave, if they've got
- 28:16Speaker 2: a big bunch of cash, what Suvre they driving Genesis?
- 28:20Speaker 2: They're not driving in Genesis. Yeah, driving in Genesis.
- 28:24Speaker 1: That's a good question.
- 28:25Speaker 2: Because it looks it looks very what do you call it?
- 28:28Speaker 2: Cadillac kind of looks like I guess like they would
- 28:31Speaker 2: be driving an escalade.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Yeah, look, I have nothing against it. I reckon the
- 28:35Speaker 1: TV screens at the back. Nice car was very nice
- 28:38Speaker 1: to drive, I agree, but like as soon as you're
- 28:41Speaker 1: in sort of narrow streets, it's like it's brown pants stuff.
- 28:44Speaker 2: Tell you what I reckon? You were like, yeah, the Volvo.
- 28:47Speaker 1: X ninety indeed, indeed, yes, So I live in Bondai
- 28:55Speaker 1: now and only too at me? How long to mention that?
- 28:57Speaker 1: And I see a lot of the X nineties. I
- 28:59Speaker 1: think the Bondai. Though Bondo is the Porsche capital of Australia.
- 29:02Speaker 1: I think that the Porsche to resident ratio there would
- 29:05Speaker 1: be ridiculous.
- 29:06Speaker 2: But I see a lot of it's pronounced but that's so.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Yeah only if you're only if you're a winker. So
- 29:13Speaker 1: I see a lot of them. I don't think of
- 29:15Speaker 1: Volvo as particularly luxury brand.
- 29:18Speaker 2: To be honest, really, I don't.
- 29:20Speaker 1: I think of them as a nice sort of mid
- 29:22Speaker 1: range vehicle. But Volvo see themselves as a BMW right
- 29:26Speaker 1: up there. And I was like, yeah, right, I know.
- 29:28Speaker 1: But from the second I picked up that car from
- 29:31Speaker 1: the Volvo headquarters. And usually when you're picking up a
- 29:34Speaker 1: press car, I'm sure you've experienced this. You're picking up
- 29:36Speaker 1: from this warehouse. They throw the keys at you, and
- 29:38Speaker 1: there's just cars everywhere, and you are desperate not to
- 29:40Speaker 1: scrape up the car and just break it. Press cars
- 29:43Speaker 1: get damaged because it's just chaoe. So you have to
- 29:45Speaker 1: drive it out and then you're in the middle of
- 29:46Speaker 1: a very crowded suburb and so you're trying to work
- 29:49Speaker 1: out how to drive the car. It's a pretty unpleasant time,
- 29:51Speaker 1: I find, But I haven't smashed anything up yet. When
- 29:53Speaker 1: I was picking up the Volvo, you know, someone from
- 29:56Speaker 1: the Volvo head's office who was wearing a suit and
- 29:58Speaker 1: was so sociable and and came down and it's like,
- 30:01Speaker 1: you know, gave me the tour of the car, and
- 30:02Speaker 1: you know, this is how you do this. And my
- 30:04Speaker 1: favorite thing about the car is this, and like I
- 30:06Speaker 1: think that you'll enjoy the speaker system. I'm like, I
- 30:08Speaker 1: think I will enjoy the speakers.
- 30:10Speaker 2: You don't get that. You don't get that.
- 30:11Speaker 1: You don't you don't like if you were picking up
- 30:13Speaker 1: pretty much any other car, it's like the keys get
- 30:15Speaker 1: pegged at you and you were on your own.
- 30:17Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, and it's the roads that way, dighead. Yeah.
- 30:20Speaker 1: Have you have you ever smashed a Presca?
- 30:23Speaker 2: Yes? Have you? Pavely doesn't know about this yet. I
- 30:27Speaker 2: haven't told Paul.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Okay, so and I don't know he's not here.
- 30:31Speaker 2: I don't know if I'm allowed to talk about it.
- 30:32Speaker 2: But you know what, I did pay for the damage,
- 30:34Speaker 2: so well yeah, so it was the gw M Canon Alpha,
- 30:41Speaker 2: big beautiful shiny ute.
- 30:46Speaker 1: And that is a big car.
- 30:48Speaker 2: It's a big but yeah, it's good. I actually enjoyed
- 30:51Speaker 2: it as a diesel. The problem is I was coming
- 30:53Speaker 2: out of a car park where and then it's it's
- 30:55Speaker 2: a Dickey car park where the gate of the car
- 30:58Speaker 2: park goes inwards and you have to stop at a ramp,
- 31:03Speaker 2: got to swipe your security card and then the gate
- 31:05Speaker 2: opens inwards. And so by the time you've got clearance one,
- 31:10Speaker 2: you've got to kind of get up this ramp, so
- 31:12Speaker 2: you've got and plus dealing with the diesel. I looked
- 31:15Speaker 2: at it and I literally had less than an inch
- 31:18Speaker 2: on each space, right on each side. It was I
- 31:21Speaker 2: knew it was going to be narrow. But I've done
- 31:22Speaker 2: it heaps of times. I've you know, I've been parking
- 31:25Speaker 2: there for over twelve months. It's generally fine. But the
- 31:28Speaker 2: problem is when I sort of revved it to get
- 31:30Speaker 2: up this this ramp, the whole thing just fucking came
- 31:34Speaker 2: out of nowhere, like really like push forward and yeah,
- 31:38Speaker 2: just I really scraped this shit out of the side.
- 31:41Speaker 2: Like it was that gate that got it. I'm like,
- 31:44Speaker 2: what the fuck? No, yeah, panels, uh, the front the
- 31:50Speaker 2: front quarter panel. Yeah, it was bad. It was real bad.
- 31:52Speaker 2: I mean I paid for the damage, and it doesn't
- 31:55Speaker 2: change my opinion on the car. I think the car
- 31:57Speaker 2: was actually really good, and I think Great Waller makes
- 32:00Speaker 2: some really good cars. But yes, I scraped the shit
- 32:02Speaker 2: out of this. It's very, very embarrassing.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Oh I haven't you know, touched would But like if
- 32:08Speaker 1: you're driving a lot of cars, it's a matter of time.
- 32:10Speaker 2: Do you want to see the photo?
- 32:11Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Oh, let me have a look at it.
- 32:13Speaker 1: I am. I can see the pain in your face.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Oh wow.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Oh no, I thought it was a bit of paint. Nah, No,
- 32:21Speaker 1: that's body wine.
- 32:22Speaker 2: I properly fucked it.
- 32:23Speaker 1: No, that's that hurts a bit.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Yeah. Can you see the amount of room I had? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, No,
- 32:29Speaker 2: it was crazy. It is.
- 32:31Speaker 1: But this is why I don't take out anything that's
- 32:34Speaker 1: a luxury car because the cost of repairs if you
- 32:37Speaker 1: mess it up, would financially ruined me.
- 32:40Speaker 2: Yeah, it wasn't look that I owned it. It was fine.
- 32:43Speaker 2: They were good about it. We did what we had
- 32:45Speaker 2: to do.
- 32:45Speaker 1: But ah, yeah, this is the thing, Like it is
- 32:48Speaker 1: hard when you were driving a car that is not
- 32:50Speaker 1: your car, and especially if you're changing them, often driving
- 32:53Speaker 1: their ex ninety. I was really anxious about that car
- 32:56Speaker 1: because that was a very large car and it felt
- 32:58Speaker 1: big on the roads, big suv, a lot of go,
- 33:02Speaker 1: a lot of guts. But I like taking that into
- 33:04Speaker 1: a car park. If I've got a press car, often
- 33:06Speaker 1: just don't go into car bucks because it's like, I
- 33:08Speaker 1: can't be certain, not just me, that someone isn't going
- 33:11Speaker 1: to push a trolley into it. And it was a
- 33:13Speaker 1: nice enough car that I didn't want to bug it up.
- 33:16Speaker 1: Like it was really nice inside, really nice outside. Like
- 33:19Speaker 1: I've got to reall, I've got to return this in
- 33:21Speaker 1: one page.
- 33:21Speaker 2: It's such a it's such a brilliant car. We've got
- 33:24Speaker 2: an XC forty. I love it. It's such a great, little, cheap,
- 33:28Speaker 2: run around car. And it's funny because I look to
- 33:31Speaker 2: spec we've got very basic. I think it's cloth seats
- 33:33Speaker 2: and stuff like that, which I was fine with. I
- 33:35Speaker 2: think the cloth seats in that one looks looks pretty good.
- 33:38Speaker 2: But yeah, I would consider these. I would consider now,
- 33:42Speaker 2: Like we were talking about this off air. When I
- 33:44Speaker 2: was a kid, of Volvo was the big fat station wagon. Yeah,
- 33:48Speaker 2: station Wagon, that's that family car. And it was this
- 33:51Speaker 2: safe car. But it was Swedish and it was it
- 33:55Speaker 2: wasn't I wouldn't have called it shit, you know what
- 33:57Speaker 2: I mean. I wouldn't have called it like Hyundai in
- 33:59Speaker 2: the early days.
- 34:00Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, Look, it was never a bad car.
- 34:02Speaker 1: I just never found out a particularly sexy car.
- 34:04Speaker 2: You know.
- 34:04Speaker 1: It's like it didn't have any of the sort of
- 34:06Speaker 1: the sexiness. And I still don't necessarily think of it
- 34:08Speaker 1: as a sexy car, but I can say that was
- 34:11Speaker 1: a luxury car, and as someone who has worked an
- 34:15Speaker 1: audio and who really cares about sound, they hand it
- 34:17Speaker 1: over and they're like, I reckon, this will have the
- 34:18Speaker 1: best sound system that you ever have. And it did
- 34:22Speaker 1: an electric car that's a bit quiet, plus all the
- 34:26Speaker 1: speakers that they had. I was listening to my own
- 34:28Speaker 1: music that's on my phone, hearing stuff that I hadn't
- 34:30Speaker 1: heard own music.
- 34:33Speaker 2: Can you imagine tell me about your music.
- 34:40Speaker 1: If I did have a rap album, which I cannot
- 34:42Speaker 1: stress enough I do not have, you couldn't water board
- 34:44Speaker 1: that information out of me.
- 34:46Speaker 2: I wonder what your rap album would be called. I
- 34:48Speaker 2: reckon it would be called to be Mild.
- 34:51Speaker 1: It'd be like milk toast the album fat.
- 34:54Speaker 2: Genus, fat Geese. That's just the title of the album,
- 34:58Speaker 2: that's not.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Yeah exactly, Yeah all right, yeah, yeah, yeah, we'll work
- 35:01Speaker 1: on the rap, right. But yeah, I was listening to
- 35:04Speaker 1: it and like, I'm a sound person. I like, you know,
- 35:06Speaker 1: good headphones or whatever, but I'm like, I'm hearing stuff
- 35:09Speaker 1: from this car sound speaker, which I think it has
- 35:12Speaker 1: really good high ends and really good and really nicely
- 35:14Speaker 1: sort of balanced sound system. So I rate that. I
- 35:18Speaker 1: rate that if you can get your hands on one
- 35:19Speaker 1: of those, give them a go.
- 35:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Think I was like, this is the standard. It is
- 35:23Speaker 1: very big, but it did set the standard. I think
- 35:26Speaker 1: for suv electric cars.
- 35:27Speaker 2: They are big, aren't they. But they've got yeah, everything
- 35:30Speaker 2: in them needs to be there. They're so good with
- 35:32Speaker 2: the storage, they're so good. I think nowadays I would
- 35:34Speaker 2: consider Volvo like just a sexy, stylish luxury brand and
- 35:39Speaker 2: a luxury car. And I think they're doing far out
- 35:42Speaker 2: that ex thirty and that little run around that they've done.
- 35:46Speaker 2: That's a great little car. A bit small, but yeah,
- 35:48Speaker 2: I mean they look great on the roads. Paul not
- 35:51Speaker 2: so much of a fan, but I've got a lot
- 35:53Speaker 2: of love for the for the Volvos. Yeah, I reckon
- 35:55Speaker 2: they're great.
- 35:56Speaker 1: You're in an electric car at the moment.
- 35:58Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we should talk about the five s ev Now.
- 36:02Speaker 1: I haven't driven. I've never driven an MG. I was
- 36:03Speaker 1: supposed to. Actually, on the topic of Snaffoo's I was
- 36:07Speaker 1: supposed to drive Snaffoo Little issues, little issues.
- 36:10Speaker 2: I was spoken up words today.
- 36:12Speaker 1: I'm not making up words. I've just got a good vocabulary.
- 36:14Speaker 1: I'm sorry. I'm trying to try to bring grifter and
- 36:18Speaker 1: snaffo sounds like saying.
- 36:20Speaker 2: I'm playing on kiss. He's the latest out of Shaboozy
- 36:23Speaker 2: and chef.
- 36:24Speaker 1: I'm trying to I'm trying to bring up the tone.
- 36:26Speaker 1: I'm trying to help lives.
- 36:28Speaker 2: That's bloody, that's carrying.
- 36:29Speaker 1: I'm sorry, but yeah, we I were supposed to have
- 36:32Speaker 1: an MG and then I think something happened to the
- 36:36Speaker 1: MG that the I supposed to be driving. Yeah, yeah,
- 36:38Speaker 1: that was it, and so I never I've never actually
- 36:40Speaker 1: driven an MG, but they feel like they're releasing a
- 36:43Speaker 1: new car every week. Those guys.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Here's what I say about the MG. I remember when
- 36:46Speaker 2: they came out with the mg hs and all that
- 36:49Speaker 2: sort of stuff, and I'm talking like seven eight years ago,
- 36:52Speaker 2: they were releasing cheap SUVs and they were selling really well.
- 36:56Speaker 2: And for me at that time, I was a bit like,
- 37:00Speaker 2: ho hum, whatever. They've got their thing going on and
- 37:04Speaker 2: they kind of serve a purpose. So now what they've
- 37:07Speaker 2: done is they're bringing out these cars that are well
- 37:11Speaker 2: priced and their quality and I'm not like, this isn't
- 37:14Speaker 2: pissing in anyone's pocket. I'm just literally stating, you can
- 37:17Speaker 2: check for yourself. They're brought out a fleet where one
- 37:21Speaker 2: all the news design language has changed, and I feel
- 37:25Speaker 2: like they're settling on these cars that are just doing
- 37:29Speaker 2: really well in their space. So you look at say
- 37:32Speaker 2: whether it be the HS or the ZS Hybrid Plus,
- 37:36Speaker 2: I had that for a while. That was a great car.
- 37:39Speaker 2: The MG Sedan I'm not a huge fan of, but
- 37:43Speaker 2: everything else what they're putting out is just really great
- 37:48Speaker 2: stuff for their space, well priced, well designed, And what
- 37:51Speaker 2: I think it's allowing them to do is put out
- 37:53Speaker 2: these cars that are kind of like, oh, all right,
- 37:57Speaker 2: that's a bit wow. Cool, you're actually doing that. So
- 37:59Speaker 2: that was like the MG Cyberster, for instance, Like that
- 38:02Speaker 2: ev it's a two door convertible sports car. The dealership
- 38:08Speaker 2: guy called it a supercar. He's like one hundred and
- 38:11Speaker 2: ten thousand. It's not a bad price for a supercar.
- 38:13Speaker 2: Shut up, sir, no, I love that.
- 38:15Speaker 1: That's cute. This isn't as when they've got when they
- 38:18Speaker 1: drink the kool aid. Yeah, it's nice when they drink
- 38:20Speaker 1: the co but.
- 38:20Speaker 2: It is that. Having said that, the cyber Stories, I
- 38:23Speaker 2: reckon it's a great car. It's so fun and it's
- 38:25Speaker 2: it's fast, and I actually think it's worth the dollars.
- 38:27Speaker 2: But what I'm trying to say is everything else that
- 38:29Speaker 2: they're put in in their space is is quality and
- 38:33Speaker 2: it's worth the price. So the MG five s EV
- 38:38Speaker 2: depending on spec, aroundabout between forty and forty seven thousand
- 38:41Speaker 2: drive away, as well two battery types and range, the
- 38:45Speaker 2: forty nine killer what hour battery and the I think
- 38:49Speaker 2: it's a sixty two killer what hour battery somewhere along there.
- 38:53Speaker 2: So you're going to get anywhere between sort of three
- 38:55Speaker 2: hundred and thirty five and four hundred and thirty five
- 38:58Speaker 2: kilometers WLTP. Just for transparency, I had the tops back,
- 39:03Speaker 2: which I think is like the essence. I mean, you're gettingses,
- 39:08Speaker 2: not as good as a Genesis has everything going on
- 39:11Speaker 2: to like the faux lever seeds, the heated steering wheel,
- 39:15Speaker 2: which I know.
- 39:15Speaker 1: You love fucking love heated steering wheel. Yes, oh god,
- 39:19Speaker 1: I wish my car had a heated steering whe I've
- 39:21Speaker 1: got the heated seats.
- 39:22Speaker 2: That's oh yeah, oh yeah, it's last.
- 39:24Speaker 1: I aspire to.
- 39:25Speaker 2: That panoramic sunnary for electric tailgate, all the all the
- 39:28Speaker 2: who ha, they're taking this, by the way, the three
- 39:30Speaker 2: sixty camera, the wireless phone charging, wireless Apple car play
- 39:35Speaker 2: as well. Here's what I'll say, Like forty seven thousand dollars,
- 39:38Speaker 2: you're getting all that in an EV that's driving really well,
- 39:41Speaker 2: and it feels lucks. It feels way more expensive than
- 39:44Speaker 2: it is. It drives really well as a get around towner,
- 39:48Speaker 2: picking up kids, doing your daily stuff. It is just mint.
- 39:52Speaker 2: It is bang on for what it's supposed to do.
- 39:54Speaker 2: It's serving its purpose so well. The tech in this,
- 39:57Speaker 2: I will say, there's two things that pissed me off
- 39:59Speaker 2: about tech. Now, there's all the bings and bongs that
- 40:02Speaker 2: we all hate that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I hate that.
- 40:04Speaker 1: The first thing you get when you get into a
- 40:06Speaker 1: new car, what do you do?
- 40:07Speaker 2: You turn it off? You turn it off.
- 40:09Speaker 1: It's like, can we just.
- 40:10Speaker 2: Look it's got all the tech and the cool thing
- 40:12Speaker 2: I do love about this is literally with one swipe,
- 40:15Speaker 2: you can go swipe, save it to your favorites button.
- 40:18Speaker 2: You got the favorites button, so then anytime you're in,
- 40:21Speaker 2: all you're doing is just pushing the favorites button which
- 40:23Speaker 2: is on the steering wheel, and it's all gone. It's
- 40:26Speaker 2: not all gone, like you pick and choose what you want,
- 40:28Speaker 2: but the annoying stuff is gone.
- 40:30Speaker 1: So yeah, I hate lane assist in ninety percent of
- 40:35Speaker 1: the cars. Like the amount of times lane assist has
- 40:37Speaker 1: tried to drive me into oncoming traffic. It's not a lot,
- 40:40Speaker 1: but it's enough.
- 40:41Speaker 2: The little jolts, yeah, like stop it, stop it.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Yeah, Like when it's when you're driving next to a
- 40:46Speaker 1: you know, a really big truck for example, and you're
- 40:48Speaker 1: in a big car and it's like, oh, I think
- 40:50Speaker 1: you should be further along. That's like, no, no, I reckon.
- 40:52Speaker 1: I don't want to be under the wheels of that truck.
- 40:53Speaker 1: I think I've got this one. Like, let me. I
- 40:56Speaker 1: hate I hate fighting cars.
- 40:57Speaker 2: Yeah, who think that?
- 40:58Speaker 1: You know they're driving better than And I've never had
- 41:01Speaker 1: it save me because I don't know about you, but
- 41:03Speaker 1: I don't drive off the road that often.
- 41:06Speaker 2: Oh I do. I drive into car parks all the time.
- 41:08Speaker 2: You've probably noticed. Yeah. No, this thing is packed full
- 41:11Speaker 2: of the safety tech, which is customizable. The one big
- 41:15Speaker 2: plus for this car, and I think a lot of
- 41:17Speaker 2: them aren't doing, is a lot of tech these days
- 41:21Speaker 2: is getting in built in the screen, which is the
- 41:23Speaker 2: most annoying af thing ever. Right, we all agree, we
- 41:27Speaker 2: don't want to be fumbling around. What they've done is
- 41:29Speaker 2: at the bottom of the screen. It's kind of hard
- 41:32Speaker 2: wired in, so you've got everything you need at that
- 41:36Speaker 2: one touch. Things like heated seats, heated steering wheel. The
- 41:40Speaker 2: climate control is physical and it's bloody easy. The volume
- 41:45Speaker 2: there is actually physical, that's all there. Everything's kind of
- 41:48Speaker 2: that you definitely need is physical, and everything that you
- 41:51Speaker 2: want to have that you don't want to have to
- 41:53Speaker 2: fumble in the tech is all hard wired in. It's
- 41:55Speaker 2: probably one of the best infotainment setups I reckon I've
- 41:59Speaker 2: ever used. But EV forty seven grand, top of the range.
- 42:03Speaker 2: So far, so good. I think if I was to
- 42:06Speaker 2: give it a bit of a stab, possibly driving ranges
- 42:10Speaker 2: getting to me so one hundred percent is getting me
- 42:13Speaker 2: around about three hundred and ninety k's, which it's published
- 42:19Speaker 2: as about four point thirty, which is a bit concerning.
- 42:22Speaker 2: I'm going to have to check that out. I suspect
- 42:24Speaker 2: it could be a fault. I'm not sure, but yeah,
- 42:26Speaker 2: MG five s EV so far big tics.
- 42:30Speaker 1: Yeah, come on, getting in one.
- 42:31Speaker 2: You need to get anyone.
- 42:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, look, when you are like relatively new
- 42:35Speaker 1: to the game, as I am, a lot of this
- 42:36Speaker 1: is just getting as into as many cars as possible,
- 42:39Speaker 1: so you have like a sense of what is on
- 42:40Speaker 1: the road and you can start sort of building a
- 42:43Speaker 1: mental library of like, oh well this, this drove well
- 42:45Speaker 1: in this way, but you know, compared to this and whatever.
- 42:48Speaker 1: So it's funny. There is a there is a little
- 42:50Speaker 1: game that I've noticed that you can play with most
- 42:53Speaker 1: car riders or car journals, which is who do you
- 42:56Speaker 1: think will.
- 42:56Speaker 2: Be divorced first?
- 43:00Speaker 1: That's easy though, that's an easy one. But if you
- 43:02Speaker 1: if you're you know, pick on my peers. The marriage
- 43:06Speaker 1: is Like I said, I am new to this game.
- 43:10Speaker 1: I cannot do that. Give me another year and then
- 43:13Speaker 1: we'll go.
- 43:13Speaker 2: We're going to start bitching about it.
- 43:14Speaker 1: But the of the new Chinese cars that have entered
- 43:17Speaker 1: the market, like who do You reckon? Will be still
- 43:21Speaker 1: in the game.
- 43:21Speaker 2: He dominated time by d We're.
- 43:23Speaker 1: Still in there.
- 43:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:24Speaker 1: By d MG is one that comes up a lot
- 43:26Speaker 1: as well.
- 43:26Speaker 2: Yep, yes, but they're not specializing in just evs.
- 43:30Speaker 1: No, no, but just Chinese cars full stop. Chinese cars
- 43:32Speaker 1: who have come into the market, because as we all know,
- 43:35Speaker 1: there's been a huge influx. Who will actually be here
- 43:38Speaker 1: in ten years.
- 43:38Speaker 2: It's tricky because like even Volvo for instance, is a
- 43:41Speaker 2: Chinese car. They're just like masking as a Swedish car.
- 43:44Speaker 1: Yeah so, but of the of the newer entrany, so
- 43:47Speaker 1: like will a Cherry be around you? Reckon? I think
- 43:49Speaker 1: Cherry is going to be saying.
- 43:50Speaker 2: I think Cherry's doing really well. I think MG is
- 43:53Speaker 2: doing great, but they've been in the market for a
- 43:54Speaker 2: long time. By D for me, would be probably this
- 44:00Speaker 2: safest bet out of all of them. I think if
- 44:02Speaker 2: you're going to bet on car brands that won't be
- 44:06Speaker 2: here in five to ten years, I'd be surprised if
- 44:11Speaker 2: Leap Motor are still kind of floating about. I had
- 44:14Speaker 2: their C ten and that is easily the worst car
- 44:19Speaker 2: I've ever test. Oh my god, it's just I hated it.
- 44:23Speaker 2: I hated it so much. It's so clumsy, it's undercooked.
- 44:27Speaker 2: It's not ready, it's not ready for the market. It's
- 44:29Speaker 2: like the user experience is just who was the focus
- 44:33Speaker 2: group when they were putting this thing together? Because it's
- 44:35Speaker 2: so poorly put together. The card, which I know Paul loves,
- 44:39Speaker 2: but I hated it. The card is like.
- 44:42Speaker 1: I find cards really tricky.
- 44:44Speaker 2: Cards, and your mobile phone. We're past that don't have
- 44:47Speaker 2: a mobile phone that's going So this card isn't proximity sensing.
- 44:51Speaker 2: It's literally you've got to tap it on the side mirror.
- 44:54Speaker 2: And by the way, it is that happy Gilmore tippity
- 44:57Speaker 2: tap tap tappy and it's your fucking around with it
- 45:00Speaker 2: for so long. What else did I hate about it?
- 45:02Speaker 2: It's got no wireless Apple Car Play, It's got none.
- 45:06Speaker 2: In fact, it's it's rare.
- 45:07Speaker 1: Actually it's taking. It's hard to find a.
- 45:08Speaker 2: Car that has In fact, it's got no Apple Car
- 45:10Speaker 2: Play or Android Auto, so it's got none. None of that.
- 45:12Speaker 2: You literally have to use whatever their elite motor apps are.
- 45:15Speaker 2: The boot was a faff around. Yeah, I just look,
- 45:18Speaker 2: I didn't like it. It's been a lot.
- 45:20Speaker 1: It's kind of refreshing though, because I've had this conversation
- 45:22Speaker 1: before with other people. It is rare, I think these
- 45:25Speaker 1: days to get into a car, whe're like, that's a
- 45:26Speaker 1: bad car. And this is one of the challenging things
- 45:29Speaker 1: if you're writing about this industry, is that you get
- 45:31Speaker 1: into it and it's like it's another above average car.
- 45:35Speaker 1: Like it's rare that you get something that I think
- 45:36Speaker 1: is exemplary and it's even rareer to get something. We're like,
- 45:40Speaker 1: this is a lemon. Like, we don't have lemons in
- 45:42Speaker 1: the way that we used to have lemons. At least
- 45:43Speaker 1: we don't when they're brand new. After five six seven years,
- 45:47Speaker 1: that's when they may become lemons. But we don't get
- 45:49Speaker 1: them for five six seven years. We get them for
- 45:50Speaker 1: two weeks. So it's kind of hard to say these
- 45:53Speaker 1: days that was that was trash.
- 45:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that Zekra are good. I think they've
- 45:57Speaker 2: based themselves really well. I think they've got good found
- 46:00Speaker 2: They've obviously got a few little improvements here and there.
- 46:02Speaker 2: I think that mainly goes into software for me as
- 46:05Speaker 2: a personal thing. But yeah, I think the established one.
- 46:08Speaker 1: What about Jacu?
- 46:09Speaker 2: Jacu are good. I haven't had too much experience with them.
- 46:12Speaker 2: I've had a little flutter, and I think they're putting
- 46:15Speaker 2: together something really good. They certainly look good. Are they
- 46:19Speaker 2: owned by the same people who own land Rover?
- 46:22Speaker 1: I do not have an answer to that off the
- 46:24Speaker 1: top of my head. Let's ask because we trust that.
- 46:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I do. Let's try it. Let's give it a go. Hey,
- 46:32Speaker 2: is the owners of the car Jacu? Do they own
- 46:37Speaker 2: land Rover.
- 46:39Speaker 1: Yes, Jaguar and land Rover are actually part of the
- 46:42Speaker 1: same parent company. They were both acquired by Tatumotors, an
- 46:46Speaker 1: Indian automotive giant, back in two thousand.
- 46:49Speaker 2: Oh thank you, okay, Papa dumb.
- 46:51Speaker 1: I think that what a lot of these people are
- 46:52Speaker 1: going to be fighting for is just brand awareness, because
- 46:55Speaker 1: we've had this like influx of car brands and it's
- 46:57Speaker 1: actually hard to keep up on you know, who's got
- 46:59Speaker 1: what and where they sit in the market and whether
- 47:01Speaker 1: they're good. And I reckon that there will be a
- 47:04Speaker 1: reckoning at some point or another. There's going to have
- 47:06Speaker 1: to be some of these brands are gonna have to
- 47:07Speaker 1: sheath off because there's just too much. I think there
- 47:08Speaker 1: are more cars than there are people looking to buy
- 47:10Speaker 1: cars at this moment.
- 47:12Speaker 2: So who do you reckon is going to stick around?
- 47:13Speaker 1: I think MG And I would also say, well, obviously byd.
- 47:17Speaker 2: They're just the sales are killing.
- 47:19Speaker 1: And they're doing interesting things.
- 47:21Speaker 2: Also, like the biggest ev car manufacturer in China, and
- 47:25Speaker 2: they have been for years. They've got a lot of
- 47:27Speaker 2: money behind them, and they're one of the few that
- 47:28Speaker 2: are kind of manufacturing everything every part of their car.
- 47:32Speaker 2: They manufacture themselves.
- 47:33Speaker 1: I spoke to someone who worked at BYD and they
- 47:36Speaker 1: were like, oh, we got to go to a tour
- 47:37Speaker 1: of the factory, right and it's like you arrive at
- 47:39Speaker 1: the factory, the factory is the size of a city
- 47:42Speaker 1: and it's like, oh, okay, well to go get your pass,
- 47:44Speaker 1: you first have to get on the BYD monorail because
- 47:48Speaker 1: it's so large you can't walk there. So like it's
- 47:51Speaker 1: got its own sort of like transport system internally because
- 47:53Speaker 1: it's just and like it defies the imagination of someone
- 47:57Speaker 1: in Australia where you know, where we don't really do
- 47:59Speaker 1: manufactor how ridiculously huge and how much money is going
- 48:03Speaker 1: into this. So I think b White at this point
- 48:05Speaker 1: too big to fail.
- 48:06Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, Cherry as well. They're making quality stuff and
- 48:11Speaker 2: it's being.
- 48:12Speaker 1: Well received like I was in the Ti Go four,
- 48:14Speaker 1: I think, and for the price of what it is,
- 48:18Speaker 1: no wonder where losing cars like the eagerness, because how
- 48:20Speaker 1: could you how could you possibly compete on price? Like
- 48:23Speaker 1: it's just that the what is a cheap car has
- 48:25Speaker 1: now really fundamentally changed.
- 48:27Speaker 2: I'll have the double check, but I think in South
- 48:29Speaker 2: Africa they've launched I think It's like Emota and Cherry
- 48:33Speaker 2: are treated as two separate things, and I think Cherry
- 48:37Speaker 2: is known as like a luxury car brand over there,
- 48:40Speaker 2: which is so wild considering like what they've launched here,
- 48:43Speaker 2: the same car, same sort of stuff at an amazing price.
- 48:48Speaker 1: It is really hard I think for the Korean car
- 48:49Speaker 1: manufacturers to sort of work out who they are in
- 48:51Speaker 1: this market, Like what is cheap has just been redefined,
- 48:55Speaker 1: and it's really hard.
- 48:56Speaker 2: I think it's great though. I think it's good. I
- 48:58Speaker 2: think it's bringing on more competition. I think it's people
- 49:00Speaker 2: in brand new cars, in safe cars, and cars with
- 49:03Speaker 2: big warranties like that MG. I hate to bring it
- 49:06Speaker 2: up again, but the MG five s ev that was
- 49:09Speaker 2: like a ten year warranty.
- 49:11Speaker 1: I think the thing is like a warranty. Yeah, And
- 49:13Speaker 1: the same thing for the Tigo It's got like a
- 49:15Speaker 1: seven year warranty something ridiculous. But a warranty is only
- 49:19Speaker 1: so good as the parts being available and is it.
- 49:25Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 49:25Speaker 1: So it's like when these things start to as all
- 49:28Speaker 1: cars inevitably have their issues and whatnot, will they actually
- 49:32Speaker 1: be fixable and serviceable. I think that that is that
- 49:34Speaker 1: the next big test. And you might get people to
- 49:37Speaker 1: buy your car once, but if you give them bad
- 49:39Speaker 1: service and the parts aren't available and they're on a
- 49:41Speaker 1: back order for four years, then what happens? And that
- 49:45Speaker 1: is the true test of a car. And they haven't
- 49:47Speaker 1: been on the roads long enough for us to know that.
- 49:49Speaker 2: I think, look at this stamping it down. You're like
- 49:53Speaker 2: the young event of car chournalism.
- 49:55Speaker 1: Thank you so much. Yeah, just don't just no one
- 49:57Speaker 1: in fact check anything I say. Okay, if we can
- 49:59Speaker 1: all agree on that, I sound very convincing.
- 50:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's good. Do you know what I
- 50:03Speaker 2: loved you had? You had a rant on your on
- 50:05Speaker 2: your socials the other day, right, so many Yeah, yeah, sorry,
- 50:09Speaker 2: but it was one of my favorite things I like
- 50:12Speaker 2: to look at on YouTube, and it was I don't
- 50:16Speaker 2: know if I'm allowed to say it, but it's the
- 50:18Speaker 2: fat chicks at disney Lands.
- 50:19Speaker 1: Plus sized park hoppers.
- 50:21Speaker 2: Leave them alone, sorry, leave them alone, the large ladies
- 50:25Speaker 2: of Disneyland, right, and they test out like the different
- 50:27Speaker 2: food they test out the different foods and like the rides,
- 50:33Speaker 2: and it's like it's incredible. They'll be like, Okay, the
- 50:37Speaker 2: Triple Stack was okay, and the Splash Mountain ride was okay,
- 50:42Speaker 2: but if you have and they'll pan the camera down
- 50:44Speaker 2: if you have a look at me. It's been giving
- 50:46Speaker 2: me thy rash.
- 50:48Speaker 1: I haven't seen them talking about thy rash. I think
- 50:50Speaker 1: I think it's being mean.
- 50:51Speaker 2: I mean, like I like it. If you if you
- 50:54Speaker 2: can't the whole thing, you're dick it under your rampit
- 50:57Speaker 2: it'll keep one for a couple of hours.
- 51:00Speaker 1: For people are listening. That is so unfair, you know what.
- 51:02Speaker 1: They're just a bunch of fat chicks who were who
- 51:04Speaker 1: were just like, hey, I'm fat, Like here's what the
- 51:06Speaker 1: experience is. You might fit in this ride, you might
- 51:08Speaker 1: not fit in this ride. And I and here's the thing,
- 51:10Speaker 1: I've got skin in the game. I used to be
- 51:11Speaker 1: a fatty, right, not not plus sized park hopper fat
- 51:14Speaker 1: to be.
- 51:15Speaker 2: Fair about like we are we talking.
- 51:17Speaker 1: Look, I reckon, I'm about sixty three or four kilos
- 51:21Speaker 1: now right and I would have been about eighty six.
- 51:24Speaker 2: That's all right, that's me now, yeah.
- 51:26Speaker 1: But like I didn't carry it well, so like I
- 51:28Speaker 1: was festive.
- 51:29Speaker 2: Have you got a photo?
- 51:30Speaker 1: I do, but I have to dig it out. It
- 51:31Speaker 1: will put it in the show notes.
- 51:33Speaker 2: Can we fat?
- 51:34Speaker 1: Stephanie Stephan, it's like a video and it's more that
- 51:40Speaker 1: it's more as well as an eighteen year old. I
- 51:42Speaker 1: just I looked like a fifty year old woman who'd
- 51:44Speaker 1: gone through a couple of hard divorces, actually had two
- 51:47Speaker 1: teenage sons, which she just didn't like.
- 51:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't like her. No, no, recent shut up
- 51:52Speaker 2: and playing your fucking PlayStations. Steph's got to get back
- 51:56Speaker 2: from bloody.
- 51:56Speaker 1: I wouldn't have to work so hard if your dad
- 51:59Speaker 1: didn't leave me for that twenty year old. Eh. Anyway,
- 52:01Speaker 1: So like that, that was the.
- 52:05Speaker 2: Like, I'm not I'm making fun a little bit. I agree,
- 52:07Speaker 2: but I genuinely think it's just very it's just very
- 52:10Speaker 2: entertaining stuff.
- 52:12Speaker 1: Like they're just like what's nice about them is they're
- 52:15Speaker 1: charismatic women who are actually have good chemistry. But you
- 52:18Speaker 1: go into the comments and people are just so mean
- 52:21Speaker 1: in the comments, like the bilogy costs so little.
- 52:24Speaker 2: Just be nice. Come on, come on, if they're putting
- 52:27Speaker 2: themselves out there like that, they've got a bloody they're gonna.
- 52:32Speaker 1: Like just for existing. They're not existing now they just
- 52:35Speaker 1: say like, hey, we're fat. People were at a theme park.
- 52:38Speaker 1: We thought this and everyone's like, oh they lose their minds.
- 52:41Speaker 2: No, no, no, they're doing more than that. They're going this
- 52:43Speaker 2: is if you're if you're like a pluck, what do
- 52:45Speaker 2: I say? What's the correct thing?
- 52:46Speaker 1: By the way, they call themselves a plus size pack,
- 52:49Speaker 1: but like you for coppers. But you can you know,
- 52:51Speaker 1: fat is a descriptive work. Okay, you know I can
- 52:53Speaker 1: say I was fat, and I can say that those.
- 52:54Speaker 2: Women are fat? Am I fat? Can I say fat?
- 52:56Speaker 1: I don't think you're fat.
- 52:57Speaker 2: I think I'm fat. I reckon, I can fat? Okay,
- 53:02Speaker 2: and I reckon that, ye ship. Anyone who sees my
- 53:08Speaker 2: like reviews on install where I'm just doing this selfie thing.
- 53:11Speaker 1: The millennial high angle, Yeah yeah, yeah, they can tell.
- 53:15Speaker 2: And the amount of times I've got to breathe, I
- 53:18Speaker 2: reckon I can classify as fair.
- 53:20Speaker 1: I think that there is actually a few interesting studies
- 53:22Speaker 1: that if you are mean to people on the internet
- 53:24Speaker 1: and just you know, like just say mean things, you
- 53:27Speaker 1: are statistically more likely to be a cunt in real life.
- 53:30Speaker 1: So we can but like you know, if you if
- 53:34Speaker 1: you if you're an asshole online, you're probably an asshole
- 53:37Speaker 1: in real perl probably like just just so just if
- 53:39Speaker 1: you have the choice between being an awful person online
- 53:42Speaker 1: or just seeing that and being like, ah, whatever, I'm
- 53:46Speaker 1: going to let that go. And I don't actually have
- 53:47Speaker 1: to be an arm in which case, in which case,
- 53:50Speaker 1: like you choose the second option.
- 53:52Speaker 2: It is a bit I feel like, I feel like
- 53:53Speaker 2: this is going.
- 53:53Speaker 1: To go up online. I'm just going to get a
- 53:55Speaker 1: bunch of mean comments.
- 53:57Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, what about those guys? Have you
- 53:59Speaker 2: seen that fairly who goes to like Costco AND's like
- 54:01Speaker 2: a double chocolate chip cookie. We're trying it right now.
- 54:05Speaker 2: I love America. I love it.
- 54:07Speaker 1: No wonder you like the Yukon den. Yeah, I'm seeing it.
- 54:11Speaker 2: I'm taking that thing. Cars.
- 54:13Speaker 1: Yeah, look, it's just And the weird sort of dichotomy
- 54:16Speaker 1: of me is that I love cars, and I love
- 54:18Speaker 1: like big cars and stupid cars and petrol and whatever.
- 54:20Speaker 1: And I also like EV's But you know, I'm a
- 54:21Speaker 1: bit of a dirty tree hugging greeny as well, and
- 54:24Speaker 1: I just try not to think about that. But there
- 54:26Speaker 1: is something about the ridiculous consumption of America which I
- 54:30Speaker 1: find very entertaining and I'm kind of admire. It's like,
- 54:32Speaker 1: look at you, guys, that's exactly what I care about.
- 54:35Speaker 2: Just get in. There's what I'm talking about with the
- 54:36Speaker 2: plus iosed pack.
- 54:37Speaker 1: Yeah, and the yukondinyality like yeah that is that is
- 54:40Speaker 1: as big in as of Knoxes as a car. It's
- 54:41Speaker 1: good for you.
- 54:42Speaker 2: Yeah, you did it. I wonder if they drive a yukondinale.
- 54:45Speaker 1: Oh, they'd have to.
- 54:49Speaker 2: See I did say that I'm allowed to. I'm allowed
- 54:52Speaker 2: to have the tables have turned.
- 54:53Speaker 1: Oh, now I'm the bad guy. Sorry for anyone who
- 54:57Speaker 1: actually wanted to hear about cars in that bit.
- 55:00Speaker 2: No, that's what we're all about. You're putting this podcast
- 55:02Speaker 2: on some sort of a pedestal. We barely talk about cars,
- 55:05Speaker 2: all right, Yeah, will get along.
- 55:07Speaker 1: I feel like I listened to you guys once when
- 55:09Speaker 1: and I said, they know what they talk about. They're
- 55:11Speaker 1: kind of talking about car.
- 55:11Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll get we'll get to cars eventually. Yes, But
- 55:14Speaker 2: there's a lot of like wading through the ship and
- 55:16Speaker 2: just just crap that we talk about.
- 55:18Speaker 1: But hey, if you do want to listen to me
- 55:20Speaker 1: rand about dumb shit on Instagram at Koomball's Koomballs at Koomballs,
- 55:24Speaker 1: my last name is Koomb's Koomballs is mine?
- 55:27Speaker 2: How we spelling that m B l E S. You
- 55:30Speaker 2: know you're going to get a whole heap of men
- 55:34Speaker 2: following you.
- 55:34Speaker 1: Like you know what, I'm always I'm always happy to
- 55:37Speaker 1: have new symps.
- 55:39Speaker 2: Have you ever got like a creepy dam.
- 55:43Speaker 1: I've got a really nice one once from a guy
- 55:44Speaker 1: who was like, I just want to pay you to
- 55:45Speaker 1: exist And I'm.
- 55:46Speaker 2: Like, ah no, but not what does that mean? You
- 55:49Speaker 2: to exist?
- 55:49Speaker 1: Let's just pay me to exist? And I'm like, but
- 55:51Speaker 1: then I was like, look at this profile. I'm like,
- 55:53Speaker 1: oh man, you're not rich enough to do that, Like
- 55:55Speaker 1: you can't.
- 55:56Speaker 2: Is that a nice way of going, Hey, here's two
- 55:58Speaker 2: hundred bucks, which you No.
- 56:00Speaker 1: No, it wasn't even like you should have an only fans.
- 56:02Speaker 1: It's like, you know, he was probably like a little
- 56:04Speaker 1: pay pig. I don't want to take money from someone who's.
- 56:07Speaker 2: I totally will and I'm open to that ship. Yeah,
- 56:09Speaker 2: if you want to pay me. Hey, by the way,
- 56:11Speaker 2: if anyone's listening and wants to DM and pay me
- 56:12Speaker 2: two hundred bucks, I will.
- 56:14Speaker 1: You'll take the money, I will get my ill do
- 56:16Speaker 1: a little dance for it.
- 56:16Speaker 2: I will get my butt out, I'll get my butthole
- 56:19Speaker 2: and I'll.
- 56:19Speaker 1: Be up and I will give you two hundred dollars
- 56:21Speaker 1: to not see your butthole?
- 56:23Speaker 2: Would you get? Yeah, pay me to bucks. Right now
- 56:25Speaker 2: I'm getting I'm getting my ass out.
- 56:27Speaker 1: It's like, yeah, I worried to Yeah like that, that's
- 56:30Speaker 1: how you could actually make money. Yeah, it's like reverse
- 56:32Speaker 1: only fans.
- 56:33Speaker 2: Yeah exactly.
- 56:34Speaker 1: It's like every day I get two hundred.
- 56:36Speaker 2: Bucks, I get two undred bucks.
- 56:38Speaker 1: I'm not going to show you my bunghole.
- 56:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm going to threaten. I'm going to threaten to
- 56:41Speaker 2: get my dick out. Yeah.
- 56:43Speaker 1: Yeah, that's why I reckon new business models.
- 56:45Speaker 2: But I want three hundred bucks to keep it in.
- 56:50Speaker 1: I reckon people would.
- 56:52Speaker 2: Pay for the health and safety of people. Please, we
- 56:54Speaker 2: do not want to see your tiny pinos.
- 56:59Speaker 1: Yeah. Anyway, this is the next iteration of the Driver's Show.
- 57:03Speaker 2: Yeah, whatever it is. We're wrapping up, by the way.
- 57:07Speaker 2: I feel like we've talked about have we talked enough?
- 57:10Speaker 2: Have we missed anything? I don't know, do you know?
- 57:12Speaker 2: So Paul's been away everywhere, and one of the places
- 57:16Speaker 2: he was at is Goodwood because he loves a little
- 57:19Speaker 2: good Wood, and I was five kinds of jealous. So
- 57:24Speaker 2: what I've kind of done is I'm making it my
- 57:26Speaker 2: little New Year's resolution. Oh right, yeah, So I know
- 57:30Speaker 2: it's like we're mid year, but I kind of said
- 57:33Speaker 2: to myself, so this time next year, I'm definitely doing Goodwood. Yeah.
- 57:38Speaker 1: Do you think that's going to happen?
- 57:40Speaker 2: See, I've got this thing called radio ratings, and I
- 57:42Speaker 2: don't know if they'll let me go in.
- 57:43Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the thing. You just have to pull a
- 57:46Speaker 1: really convincing sicky. Yeah, have a little mental breakdown. I
- 57:50Speaker 1: could do that, Yeah exactly, Like.
- 57:52Speaker 2: That's pretty common in my game, and they'll believe it
- 57:55Speaker 2: coming from me.
- 57:56Speaker 1: And then you can do a podcast about men's depression
- 57:58Speaker 1: or something, and then then you're.
- 58:00Speaker 2: We can talk about our problems. Yeah exactly. I have
- 58:03Speaker 2: said that to Paul so many times. I said, if
- 58:05Speaker 2: we're going to get this podcast up, you need to
- 58:08Speaker 2: start fucking crying. I need you to talk about your
- 58:11Speaker 2: mental health as I need you to share. I need
- 58:15Speaker 2: you to be vulnerable.
- 58:16Speaker 1: I would love to see him being vulnerable. I don't
- 58:18Speaker 1: know if if Paul could do it.
- 58:20Speaker 2: We're looking at him right now, we can see the
- 58:21Speaker 2: photo right now. Do you think every morning he looks
- 58:23Speaker 2: in the mirror and just goes, why did Jesus make
- 58:25Speaker 2: me so deformed?
- 58:27Speaker 1: He has the cold dead eyes of a killer.
- 58:29Speaker 2: He does. He's very were wolfy, he's very hairy.
- 58:33Speaker 1: And I actually tried to get writting work for car Expert?
- 58:36Speaker 2: Did you the ghosted me?
- 58:38Speaker 1: Oh?
- 58:39Speaker 2: No, way to reply?
- 58:40Speaker 1: No, No, it was he well, yes, yeah, yeah.
- 58:43Speaker 2: But Paul you bitch.
- 58:45Speaker 1: Well I don't. I don't think I got in touch
- 58:47Speaker 1: with Paul. Actually someone else in the team. But that's fine.
- 58:50Speaker 1: I'll let that go. I now have a few little
- 58:53Speaker 1: places I write for and it goes through.
- 58:54Speaker 2: Well yeah, yeah, many publications I am.
- 58:57Speaker 1: I am many well storied publications.
- 59:00Speaker 2: Hey, before we wrap, you have a three cars to
- 59:04Speaker 2: go into a dream garage. I'd be keen.
- 59:06Speaker 1: Oh man, that's too hard, No, it's not.
- 59:10Speaker 2: Let me help you out one classic one EV. Now
- 59:12Speaker 2: here's the deal. I always think at the moment where
- 59:15Speaker 2: I'm at in my headspace, is you kind of it's
- 59:18Speaker 2: like a topic of bad depression game, So you kind
- 59:22Speaker 2: of have to have, like I reckon, it's a good
- 59:25Speaker 2: idea to have like some sort of hybrid or EV,
- 59:27Speaker 2: preferably EV and plus a supercar.
- 59:33Speaker 1: I honestly I'm honestly stumped by this. If I was
- 59:38Speaker 1: going to go something old, i'd want something a little
- 59:39Speaker 1: bit weird. I think, like nineteen eighties cars really beautiful.
- 59:42Speaker 1: So I would consider like a Mitsubishi Starion, for example,
- 59:46Speaker 1: which is I don't think that was particularly good car
- 59:49Speaker 1: to drive, but the ad campaign for the Starion at
- 59:52Speaker 1: the time was quite like sort of punky, sort of
- 59:55Speaker 1: new wavy, really cool, really sort of retro Japanese campaign
- 59:59Speaker 1: new order. It was quite beautiful in the car itself.
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: It's funny, how you know, when you're a kid, nineteen
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: eighties cars look a bit, you know, ridiculous, but now
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: they're so cool like that sort of like really boxy aesthetic.
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: You look at even like the Only like I'm a
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: Porsche fanatic, you look at even like the nine to eights,
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: they were like what the fuck?
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, they look kind of cool now
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: yeah they do. So I'd want something kind of silly,
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: you know, Like i'd want a car and like in
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: good condition, but silly good condition.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: EV.
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: The X ninety is is top of mind, literally because
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: I was just in it and I haven't driven a
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: lot of EV, so I know that one is good.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: I am a bit of a BMW fan. I would
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: love to drive some bmwev's.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: Probably one that doesn't catch on fire like yours.
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: To be fair to my car. It's an X one
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: from like twenty fourteen, so you know it is at
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: that time where it just catches on fire occasionally. But
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: I love I'd do the Batist twelve hour, oh every year.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: I love the Bathist twelve hour. And the BMW is
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: the one. We're just shockingly like shockingly beautiful. New M
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: twos are good, you know, speaking of cars that sort
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: of grow on you, like the BMW with the sort
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: of toothy grill looked ridiculous, I think when they first
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: came out and they released something and it looks really absurd,
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: and then they sort of pull it back a little
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: bit in later iterations, and so like I think the
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: X five M is a good looking car like that
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: looks like a weapon on the road. Yeah, beautiful, like
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: that really so sharp.
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: I've been looking at the X three and the X
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: five and forty eyes and yeah, they look they're just solid,
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: They're so good.
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, it's a Mercedes New Air Class error
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: as well, because that would be oh, i'd be interested
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: to know how that goes.
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: We don't talk about Mercedes on this podcast, don't we. No,
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: no no, because my dad got his MERK stolen quite recently.
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: Really yeah yeah, and Mercedes refused to turn on the
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: tracking device. It's a whole thing, right, Oh okay, some
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: of the reels, it's all in there.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: Yeah, because the GT you know, AMG Like I find
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: those really cars like big, big fronthood, so maybe maybe
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: one of those.
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: It was really disheartening when all that happened because I
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: was like, I'm never going to fucking buy a Murger gam.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: But and then you see one and you're like, oh,
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: they're beautiful. Yeah, it's so nice, Like I forgive you.
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: It's like it's like a on the crazy Hot Girlfriends goal, right,
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: like it's crazy hot but treat you bad, but so hot.
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: That's like, I'm sorry, babe, come back to you.
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: Crazy hot girlfriends never going to bring you a sign
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: you for lunch, that's the problem.
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: They're not they're not, but they're so hot. And then
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: you know you've seen with them and everyone's like wow,
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: look at that, like look at that, so like that's
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: that's it.
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: She's home maintenance cost you a lot of the mechanics I.
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: Know, yeah hah ha. But but also she's hot. Yeah
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: I would. I would be considering you know, some AMG
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: tootle ridiculous thing, any anything BMW would be great. Good
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: pics yeah yeah, so look I mean good pics, but
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: also something silly, you know a little silly. It's something,
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: you know, something that's little drive and ridiculous.
