- 3:05we get kind of person over here. You know, it is a podcast
- 3:07where we talk about our life and everything, but you know it gets super
- 3:09person over there. Correct. Yeah, so but we here. You know,
- 3:14it's another episode. We it's now February, my birthday, monk,
- 3:20and it's also Black History months. I mean, you know it's my birthday,
- 3:23so you know, I forget black history. I mean they go hand
- 3:28in hand. I was born and I am Black history. You know what
- 3:34I mean. Let's you know, let's keep it real, you know what
- 3:36I mean, Let's keep it real. Okay, it's your tagline. I
- 3:38Am Black, I Am Black History. The panamic flag waving behind you.
- 3:44You know, you're looking off into the distance and then you just see like
- 3:47these No, no, the Tuskigie airman fly. Yes, there we go.
- 3:54Faces fade in and out, you know, see like, oh,
- 3:59my facts, you see like Dray McDuffie. You know, I'm sorry kill
- 4:12you got to see kill ma, gotta see kill Mart you know what I
- 4:16mean, Like he's a real person. Yeah, that's the best part.
- 4:19Yea, Oprah didn't kill Manger. See this is why y'all gotta give me.
- 4:25I gotta write my comedy show, Like I want to be like Robbing
- 4:30and have my own sketch comedy situation because this ship that be popping up in
- 4:33my head on the fly, I'll be fucking dying and I'm like, I
- 4:35know this ship is funny. No, No, we do this off the
- 4:38fly. Like people are talking about us, talk about Richard Ryder last week,
- 4:42and I'm like that was all you know, like my my best friend
- 4:45hit me up about that, and someone left the comment on YouTube about that
- 4:48and yeah, that was just you know, it was like the whole Ladder
- 4:53half of the show but I was just I just I was still like very
- 4:56like just shocked. I'm like, I mean, I shouldn't be like Stanley
- 4:59in them they they was always on one but on my god, Richard Dick
- 5:05writer. Wow. And you know as a kid, I didn't because I
- 5:12remember, you know, I knew Richard and Dick were the same thing.
- 5:15But I just read Richard Ryder. I'm like, okay, cool, you
- 5:16know, Richard Rider. But it was definitely as an adultable house like wow,
- 5:20that's how it's been designed. And that's why this ship is so like
- 5:24amazing and clever because it's not it's designed for you not to hit. It
- 5:28ain't gonna hit. It's like it's like an edible, a real, a
- 5:30real sneaky, sneaky edible that like you out you hit that ship and you're
- 5:34like, okay, all right, what's that? You know? I don't
- 5:36feel nothing? And there it is. That's how it is. So it
- 5:40did very well. Yeah, Dick Rider, he usually does very well.
- 5:46Anyways, what else? Once again, now this has been for all nurse
- 5:53y'all. I'll see y'all later. Like this man being immature, but it's
- 6:00I'm very mature. You know. You gotta be matured. You know,
- 6:03please only that mature did credits? Ben? What's going on in the world
- 6:11today, besides your antics? What's going on in the world today? What
- 6:15is going on into the world today? I don't know you there's something about
- 6:18this. What did you know? I mean, I know, I know
- 6:24she's Did you did you hear about it? Did you hear about it?
- 6:26I didn't hear that quote. I didn't see this quote because I've seen I
- 6:30saw the other folks. We talk about how she was doing independent because she
- 6:33doesn't believe that Hollywood supports black stories, which it doesn't. And yeah,
- 6:40so I've seen that quote. Yeah, Well, this quote that we're referring
- 6:44to is and it's an excerpt from a wider interview essentially, but it says,
- 6:48I've never seen Hollywood this scared and clueless and at the mercy of Wall
- 6:53Street, says Ray, and her Time magazine interviewed. Now, she's one
- 6:57hundred percent right. And also it's just indicative like foreign nerds, we've been
- 7:01in the game for ten years, right, and when I really like sit
- 7:08there and think about the stuff we were talking about ten years ago and the
- 7:12fact that some of that stuff is still the fucking same, Like when we're
- 7:15talking about things in Hollywood, when we're talking about projects and the fight that
- 7:18still remains about black people and people of color getting their voices heard, It's
- 7:23like, is there any end? And this sentiment was brought to a head
- 7:28a few weeks ago when we saw mass shows and particularly shows led by black
- 7:32people getting the acts left and fucking right, And it was extremely troublesome because,
- 7:40like especially for me, because a lot of people in my time I'm
- 7:42our writers and and are in either media space or in Hollywood. And the
- 7:47sheer level of distraught and sadness that I literally for twenty four hours straight,
- 7:51it was just straight, we can't have shit. And I understood that sentiment.
- 7:56It's like, fuck, we can't have shit, Like y'all play around
- 8:00with the DEI efforts and diversity equity inclusion. We don't know what DEI stands
- 8:03for and all of this, Oh, we're trying to lift y'all people,
- 8:07and this and that, this is the executives talking to us as black folks,
- 8:11and yeah, we're want to give you all a chance, and then
- 8:13you don't give us the same space, You don't give us the same grace.
- 8:16You don't give us the same time, you don't give us the same
- 8:18effort, and then we're fucking struggling. And with Easterray what she has been
- 8:24doing to me, she's been independent, at least on the side, even
- 8:28with her deal with HBO. She has built up her own production companies and
- 8:33built up her indie record label and some other things that are in the words
- 8:37and she spoke about in this article. She spoke about how she is actually
- 8:41working on building an actual studio in Cali. So this whole thing was about
- 8:48what she was sharing was about building your own and really taking the task and
- 8:52just saying it plainly, like how the landscape is in Hollywood right now,
- 8:56and how are the is how it's been, but especially right now, especially
- 9:00right now. And there's two things I want to say to that. One
- 9:03is that Hollywood, I think people really misunderstand Hollywood will do this to white
- 9:09men. Hollywood is like evilly ruthless. You know, it'll give white men
- 9:15two chances when it will give us zero. But after them two chances,
- 9:20it's gonna cut most white men too, unless your daddy is you know somebody,
- 9:24or you Martin Scorsese or someone of that age and even that nigga struggle
- 9:26to get a movie made these days, Yeah, that they will still get
- 9:31those two chances we get zero, and well, that's how it's gonna fucking
- 9:35be. And that's like I don't really worry about that because that's how it's
- 9:39gonna be. And I think that this is the thing like I've because I
- 9:43come from the music industry going into the uh film industry, and I've always
- 9:48advocated for this even in the music industry, is do your own. That's
- 9:52what I like. I was one of the big people I I actually knew
- 9:58about. I was a big Drape fan from pretty early. Really went so
- 10:01far gone though, that's when a lot of people got on him, but
- 10:03I put him on to like young Guru, where Young Guru got onto him
- 10:07and then he got with you know, I knew I was one of the
- 10:09people really pushing him. That's when I had my blow piece on stair dot
- 10:13com and I was really pushing him. And my prayer was that he would
- 10:16not sign a major label deal because I was like, he could be someone
- 10:20who could really change the game and show people you don't need that major label
- 10:22deal anymore. But of course he did and any people after him, like
- 10:28Chance who claimed the don't you know they work with Apple and everybody's bought out,
- 10:33even someone like Toby Niggway, who I really love. I feel like
- 10:35right now is turning into that cat where it's like, Okay, I'm gonna
- 10:37get this money. I'm gonna get this money. Capitalism right now it's damn
- 10:46nipping at them heels, fam And I feel you because you got a family
- 10:48to feed, niffing, don't there's no nipping happening. Big capitalism is sitting
- 10:52at the table. I know, man, I saw the SNL and and
- 10:56then me be clear when I say this is not from a hater perspect and
- 11:00this is also down to him because what did I say? And maybe I
- 11:03said this on the patient. So that's what you gotta do, Like you
- 11:05also gotta be economically smart. You do. And but there's a point,
- 11:09and that's what I feel like we as black people, and it's how we
- 11:13fall for this trick over and over again, and it's historically been shown.
- 11:16It's like there ain't never gonna be five niggas. On the Elvis Presley album
- 11:20cover, you know, it's the famous quote from the Five Heartbeats right or
- 11:24from the from the Temptations movie, you know, and that's like, you
- 11:28know, a crossover another but a double cross. They will always use you
- 11:31and then they're gonna go on to the nets. Negro like Toby a nigga
- 11:35is on the Justin Temperlaid song right now because he's the hot nigga, But
- 11:39in three years, Justin temb Blake would have somebody else you know, on
- 11:43there, and he ain't going. He ain't reaching back, just like he
- 11:46ain't reaching back to Push your teet for a feature right now. But Push
- 11:50it was on that first album. You know, that's my thing, but
- 11:54Push ain't the hot nigga right now. Toby is, so that's my thing.
- 11:56And it's like we always try to like Easa. She's smart, like
- 12:01she got the money, but she's taking that money and doing her own thing.
- 12:05And I know Toby is doing that type of thing too, So I
- 12:07know he is. And that's why I'm not like you say, this ain't
- 12:09coming from a hater perspective. It's turning from the perspective where I want black
- 12:13people to realize it the only way is to do your own thing there because
- 12:20there's just no security at all. Like, that's why y'all see me.
- 12:24I've worked in Hollywood, but I don't really dedicate my life to that shit.
- 12:28And I will never do anything for a check behind Hollywood because I don't
- 12:33want to be a person who's out here writing things that I feel aren't or
- 12:39are actively detrimental to black people or just or I don't even I'll be honest,
- 12:45I don't even want to write things that are just like entertaining. Like
- 12:48I love Power, I watch it every week, but it's not something that
- 12:50I'd really want to dedicate my life to writing a show like that because it's
- 12:54just entertaining, and then it's you know, it is what it is.
- 12:58You know. I want to write things that I feel like at least I
- 13:01feel in my heart or creating an impact or moving me. I don't want
- 13:05to write because someone's like, well, you got to write this episode this
- 13:07week. And that's why I don't actively you know, Chase Hollywood. It'll
- 13:13come to me when I feel like, okay, that's fair, yeah,
- 13:18and that's why. But I love people like Easter, who are you know,
- 13:22making these statements like look y'all, and that's inspiring people below her or
- 13:26all the younger people coming up Uneatha are all I mean, young or older
- 13:30and whoever, it don't matter really, but it's inspiring people to be like,
- 13:33Yo, Okay, maybe I don't need to chase this Hollywood check.
- 13:35Maybe I can take my own check and buy a camera. You know,
- 13:39one of my favorite my mentors in Hollywood, a black writer who's been in
- 13:43the game forever. You know. We had him meeting one day and he
- 13:46was like, you want to see how because I asked a question and this
- 13:50meeting of black writers, I was like, Yo, how do we like?
- 13:54I was say, Yo, what about? Basically I was talking about
- 13:56myself, but I was like, what about people who just be out here
- 13:58saying shit, you know, and saying whatever, and you know, actually
- 14:03trying to say something and not just going for the bullshit like people like East.
- 14:07What she said is dangerous. Of course, she said, you can't
- 14:09call its clueless. They could be like you just trolling me, clueless bitch,
- 14:13right, you know I'm not signing over your next movie, fucking bitch.
- 14:18Like I said about being smart about getting that money and then turning that
- 14:22money into self revenue generating centers, right, like all the mean things I
- 14:26mentioned that she already has going for herself, and the fact that couple with
- 14:30that, she's reaching back, she's pulling up her people behind her, she
- 14:33positioned everybody else. Because the whole point towards your idea of make your own
- 14:39is to build your own. Okay, let's pull up and create and train
- 14:43and create these soldiers that will continue the path forward, that will continue the
- 14:48legacy and build up the legacy right until we can get to a place where,
- 14:52like, our shit is fucking strong and it's something that cannot be ignored,
- 14:58and that's still something that's still technically is in the infancy of like there
- 15:03have been And it's interesting because throughout the age, I don't want to say
- 15:07the ages like it's been a million years, but throughout the decades there have
- 15:11been glimpses of what those types of empires look like. Like you think of
- 15:16the Waynes, the Wayne's family, when you think of and Tarla Perry,
- 15:20Tyler Perry, when you think of and I say Wayn's probably fair because like,
- 15:24there was stuff that came out this week that I just learned about.
- 15:26Like the whole reason why there's Super Bowl halftime show is because of them.
- 15:31I did not fucking know that the power that has understand wasn't that like the
- 15:35nineties or maybe even earlier. And for those who didn't see this, because
- 15:41I saw it, pop it on tiptok et cetera. So I know basically
- 15:43what happened is back in the nineties, Living Color was the greatest show on
- 15:48earth. If you don't know about it, go watch old episodes. Living
- 15:50Color is just it's up there with Dave Chappelle's show Mad TV SML at its
- 15:56best. It is just one of the greatest cats shows of all time.
- 15:58And at the time it had nothing but superstar stunners on it. It's like
- 16:03Jim Carrey, Damon Wayans, you know, Keenan, Ivory Wayans, David
- 16:08Allen Greer, Tommy Jefferson, right, Tommy, Tommy Davison, Tommy Davison,
- 16:15not Jefferson, Tommy Davison. Oh man, I'm just watching that nigga.
- 16:18He's in I peated the Outlaw Johnny Black, I did Pete that.
- 16:23I'll talk about that later. Yeah, he's in that joint. So it
- 16:26had all these cats in there, like Jim Carrey. That's where Jim Carrey
- 16:30got discovered at is on Living Color. So this show was just in fuego
- 16:33every Sunday night. It was just out of control. You had to peep
- 16:37at must crazy ratings. So during the Super Bowl that year, when it's
- 16:41like the second or third year of Living Color, when it's just out of
- 16:44control on fire, they did at halftime special because normally the halftime would just
- 16:49be niggas talking, you know, they cut back to the studio everybody talking
- 16:52about the game. And I know, I really, as a kid,
- 16:55I never understand that. I never understood why the fucking Super Bowl took so
- 16:57much longer than every other football game. A lot of the other ship like,
- 17:02why the fuck do we need thirty minutes a halftime with these niggas just
- 17:03talking like this. You don't need the rest that the players need the rest,
- 17:07I know, but they don't get a rest any other week, you
- 17:10know. And I'm like, and I mean, this is a big one.
- 17:11That's a big one. I know. Bet As a kid, I
- 17:14didn't give a shit about football, So I was just I wanted to see
- 17:17the show that would come on after the super Bowl, because they always had
- 17:18the Dope Show on after Super Bowl. So I'd just be like, come
- 17:22on, Ny can get this shit over with so Living Color for the first
- 17:26time ever. They did a halftime show network a bit on Fox. This's
- 17:32what I read on I don't know what network, probably ABC at the time,
- 17:36I think, yeah, and so niggas switched the stations. Everyone million
- 17:41niggas, thirty millionaire switched over to watch and Living Color for thirty minutes and
- 17:49then switch back. And after that, ABC was like, nigga, please
- 17:55hell no. And it's like, and that's like not the only type of
- 17:59anecdote that like that. I still don't probably don't know, but that has
- 18:02been floating around the internet for some time about and when I go back to
- 18:06what I'm saying about, like these glimpses of empire and the influence and the
- 18:08power that has the Wayne's family, Tyler Perry obviously nigga, hold on,
- 18:15I gotta go back to the Wayne's family. This battle Rapper, it was
- 18:18one of the lines of twenty twenty three. This nigga said everything that I
- 18:22called this done Mama Wayne's because everything they come up out of it, Oh
- 18:26my god God. But he ain't like it's all that woman's children. I
- 18:33don't I don't know what predicated all this, but that's upot of time upn
- 18:37that was the fucking black that was Prime Time. Oh yeah, people black
- 18:44people starring in sometimes, you know, like like it's their show. Understand,
- 18:49They're gonna have had a racist frog as their goddamn logo, the w
- 18:55frog. Yeah, nigga like they were. That's how black they were.
- 18:57They had a racist frog. Like they didn't give a shit. List like
- 19:00we got all your niggas on this show. We're gonna have a racist frog.
- 19:03Whatever. The point is, Like, I feel like there's been cycles
- 19:07or there were cycles, and with the exception of like Tyler Perry, I
- 19:11feel like, okay, now we have an Eastern Ray who's trying to build
- 19:15that up again. It's just like, are these ebbs and flows and how
- 19:18it's always gonna be or when it's gonna be a point where it will We'll
- 19:22get to a point where it's like no matter what, like there's always gonna
- 19:25be fucking Byron Nowt in there. There's always gonna be fucking Tyler Perry there
- 19:27and some other people besides them. Yeah, I mean, sadly for you
- 19:33know, until niggas turn out the lights on the small planet, you know,
- 19:36I don't know like, damn not you saying so this shit. I
- 19:38mean, it's just that's the thing. It's like because niggas fall for the
- 19:41tricks every time that a lot of niggas would be like, Yo, I'm
- 19:47gonna do it once I get this amount of money, and then you got
- 19:51another and then you got another this, and then you got another mortgage and
- 19:56then they're like, why don't you just keep doing this bullshit? And you're
- 19:59like, yet caught, and they and that's how they work it. Like
- 20:06I'm not gonna name names again, but somebody else who worked in Hollywood told
- 20:08me this one time. They're like, go watch the movie The Firm if
- 20:11you really want to know how to get you in this business, because that's
- 20:15the same ship he's like in everything. They've always been like, so you
- 20:18know, how's your wife doing? What's up y'all planning to have kids?
- 20:23Mm hmmm? Because they want to know, oh you got kids? Oh
- 20:27oh shit, you know, gotta put some food in that belly, don't
- 20:32you. They want to know your weaknesses and devices and all this other stuff
- 20:36because it's always and unfortunately it's just always about how can I control you?
- 20:40Right? Yeah, So that's the thing. I feel like I got you
- 20:44know, and I like we were talking about this on the Patreon right,
- 20:45Like, I'm at a frustrated point with my DJ career because I do a
- 20:51lot of weddings and I make a lot of money doing weddings. But it's
- 20:53not it doesn't make me, you know, happy creatively. But what it
- 21:00does allow me to do is because I make the money during weddings, I
- 21:03can take that money. I can pour it into four our nerds, I
- 21:06can pour it into my music production. I can pour it into buying cameras
- 21:11so I can shoot my own productions. So that's why, like I've that's
- 21:15the thing that's I had a hard lesson to learn, and I realized I'd
- 21:18rather work outside the box, take my money, do what I want to
- 21:22do, then chase down a job in Hollywood. And I feel like a
- 21:27lot of people would rather just chase down those jobs in Hollywood. And I
- 21:30tell young, right, a young old whoever writers trying to break in the
- 21:34game, I always implore them, like, don't sell your soul for that
- 21:38check, but so many people will just sell and it's hard. When it's
- 21:44hard, either the struggling artist, the struggling creative or like that is your
- 21:48and honestly how you feel, because my thing is you also are speaking from
- 21:52a place of experience. When you are green and it's been your life's mission
- 21:56to get into Highwood and become a writer, that stuff will take you over,
- 22:02especially if you have that opportunity. And this is something that I learned
- 22:07before ever. This is something that because I read and I pay attention and
- 22:11I listen, and I learned before I get into an experience chaos. Want
- 22:14a quote that I always lived with. Karis One said this in an interview
- 22:17way back in the day when I read. He was like, Yo,
- 22:18don't ever make money off of something you love. And He's like, look,
- 22:23I love hip hop and rap, so I don't make my main money
- 22:27off of this shit. You know, I have investments, I do other
- 22:32things. I do speaking tours, I do all this type of shit he
- 22:34does other than doing shows and stuff. So that that way, you know
- 22:38he doesn't have to you know, he can make the music he wanted to
- 22:41make all his life. Tariff One ain't never compromised. He's always made the
- 22:45songs he wanted to make. He never done nothing else. Because I saw
- 22:48I saw the show last year. You know, like fifty years in hip
- 22:51hop, this man been there since the fucking beginning of it. And that
- 22:53man was doing a show, you know, during the fifty touring the world.
- 22:59You know, he's still living his dreams and in his way. I
- 23:03saw this nigga on stage say it. He was like, yo, fifty
- 23:04years ago, I said, I was gonna be we will be here forever.
- 23:10Do you understand me? It's a famous keros One song, we will
- 23:12be here forever. And he was like, I put this shit out there.
- 23:15My mind created the world. He said, I'm going to be on
- 23:19stages rocking microphones to our motherfucking sixty. He said that shit in rhyme when
- 23:23he was like twenty five, ripping the microphone till my motherfucking sixty. You
- 23:29know what I mean. And he's still out there doing it. It's like,
- 23:33and that's what we talk about on the show. You know, words
- 23:36have power. The spells you cast with what you say and put into the
- 23:40universe of means steam. So that's why, like I said, I don't
- 23:42I won't make I make money off of DJing and things of that nature.
- 23:48But I'm not out here playing a lot of bullshit music. I'm not doing
- 23:52that type of stuff because I won't do that for a check. Man,
- 23:55It's not in my nature, you know what I mean. I'll find other
- 23:57ways to make money then to you know, sacrifice my soul for a check.
- 24:07And I feel like, yeah, I really wish more people be there.
- 24:10It's just not worth it. That's why I always tell people about Hollywood
- 24:12shuffle. There's work at the post office is the famous quote from this movie.
- 24:18There's always working, Nigga. You don't need this ship like I don't
- 24:21give. Your fucking dream is to write, then't right, nigga, don't
- 24:25wait until you get into Hollywood to write. Write you know, if that's
- 24:29your dream, right every goddamn day and made something happen with it. Don't
- 24:33wait for somebody else because when you get there, they're gonna tell you write
- 24:36this, and then it's just suck because you're not. No, you're not
- 24:40writing what you want to write. God damn, I should pick this.
- 24:44You would basketball fantasy basketball, y'all? Okay, And I mean this is
- 24:52thank you for that for the word. I appreciate you, Reverend doctor Ben.
- 24:56I mean, but since I mentioned his name, I also wanted to
- 25:00mention. I don't know if you saw that, because that also happened this
- 25:02week or earlier that Byron Allen he pro big money Byron, A big money
- 25:07Byron, a thirty billion buyout of Paramount Global. Now a few months back
- 25:12and even again in December, he has been trying to buy be T and
- 25:18that was rebuffed, so he said, fuck it, I'm gonna buy the
- 25:19whole thing. So that of course that pushed that that what I was gonna
- 25:25say. That stock went up crazy. They're like, oh, oh,
- 25:29it comes this, you know, it comes this big money. But you
- 25:33know, of course there's doubt there. They don't know, you know,
- 25:36and some analysts are like, we don't know what he's getting that money from.
- 25:37I'm like, well needed to Elon Musky. He did that ship anyway.
- 25:41So my thing is the money is there. He can figure it out.
- 25:45It's just is Paramount gonna take it seriously and to that and not to
- 25:49be conspiracy theorists, but this is also a black man that's going that.
- 25:53I just can't see it a black man ConTroll it. And again this is
- 25:57not whole TEP talk. They like this Paramount for you for people who don't
- 26:02know hold on. Let me pull it up. Paramount is composed of beet
- 26:07MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, CBS, and in their general global TV
- 26:11business, which was just that he owned Star Trek, right yeah, Like
- 26:18because it's not because it's news, but it's also culture, right Yeah,
- 26:22I mean Paramount owned Star Trek, Star Trek. His inclusion would be a
- 26:26vast change in the landscape or the media landscape, of the management and direction
- 26:33and power thereof right, Like, he would become one of the people who
- 26:38are making making the decisions. Right and allegedly some of this stuff he would
- 26:42just sell off and he would just focus on the TV. But like the
- 26:45media, the media piece is where the power is. So I'm just like,
- 26:48are they going to allow this man to do something like this? Even
- 26:52if he turned around and said here's that, he'd point to it. He
- 26:55pointed a tangible fifty billion dollar check or whatever it was, you know,
- 26:59I mean, will they be like they'll still tain't? No shareholders love it.
- 27:07I'm curious. You're not sure, Ben, I mean, it's like,
- 27:17I don't know, man, I'm not sure if they will. You
- 27:21know, that is thirty billion excuse me, but yeah, God damn and
- 27:29I know he put it together with a conglomberate like you said. So,
- 27:32I mean, just like when Elon allegedly bought what's his face for forty four
- 27:36forty four like he didn't have that. It was a congoment, Saudi money
- 27:40and some other money. So my thing is, it's how you come up
- 27:45with that is kind of beyond the besides the point when you have enough leverage
- 27:48and acts as you can figure it out. But the fact that it's a
- 27:51real fucking offer and he's sitting there, y'all need to take it for real,
- 27:53and the markets took it for real. So what's gonna happen next?
- 27:59That's big questions. I don't know that. I mean, that's interesting.
- 28:02That's how I can say on that. That is that's big talk. You
- 28:04know, he's always been dowting Byron Allen, my man has been you know,
- 28:07stacking chips like jeez, yeah, fourteen point three billion. So where
- 28:12did the thirty billion come from? Oh? I think that's for some other
- 28:15stuff. But uh no, Alan Media Group made and un solicited. Unsolicited
- 28:19that's another thing. I think that's bowl no one fucking asked you. It's
- 28:22like, well, fuck you I'm putting this shit out there. Well,
- 28:25he tried to buy bet right, he's been he was trying by and they
- 28:29rebuffed those yes, like them and ye some other people. Yeah, he
- 28:33says that it I'll just buying your whole shit there. Yeah yeah, yeah,
- 28:34so all right, I mean that shit like that. I mean,
- 28:40and the man already owns like he owns I believe he owns like twenty six
- 28:42conglomerate networks. He owns the Weather Channel. I don't know if you knew
- 28:45that, Oh yeah, knew that. That's how he started the black Man
- 28:48black Man. He was gonna rain or not. So that's how he started
- 28:52getting his money, right. So it's it's it's just interesting how this is
- 28:56going to play out or not play out, I don't know. And then
- 28:57it's just like if it don't play it's like, so, what was the
- 29:00reason. This is a premium? This is a huge I think it's a
- 29:03fifty percent premium over their current stock rise and they have like another fourteen billion
- 29:07in debt. So if y'all say, no, what's the reason, what
- 29:11was the reason? What was the reason? I know that's on that.
- 29:15That's on that, uh and some other news today or yesterday whenever. I
- 29:21don't know, Uh, the Sony State of play happened, where Sony,
- 29:25you know, shows off all the shit they got coming from PlayStation. I
- 29:33didn't You'll have to tell me because I didn't see everything else. Now it's
- 29:36the big news that I saw was there's a ten minute trailer for Death Stranding
- 29:41on the Beach, which is the sequel to Death Stranding. I really enjoyed,
- 29:47like the first hour I played of Death Stranding, and then I got
- 29:49bored and gave up listen and I never went back. Kajima Kojima, Son
- 29:56Kajima. Kajima's stuff is dense. It's very dense in terms of just what
- 30:04he's thinking about and what he's not thinking about, and what he's trying to
- 30:07convey and his art. His art can be an understanding of what his point
- 30:12is can be very elusive. And that's not because people don't get it's just
- 30:17like he really doing his own ship and because he's like, you know,
- 30:19he's gaming God and Genius and all this other stuff. It's just sometimes it
- 30:23is hard to like really like sink your teeth into it. Let's say that.
- 30:29Yeah, so if people say the Death Stranding and by the end of
- 30:33it, you you know, pretty much everything get explained, okay, but
- 30:37you got to get through all the other ship first to get there. And
- 30:40I mean he explained a lot in metal gear and a lot, and that
- 30:45shit didn't made no sense, So I get it got more convoluted every year.
- 30:49I'm like, oh my god. And then a lot of explanations are
- 30:55terrible. So no, but they say the defth stranding overall explanations worked out,
- 31:00et cetera, et cetera. So I'm still not hype for the new
- 31:06one, you know whatever. I mean. Listen, what I'm hyped for
- 31:10is actually the is it a movie or is another game? But the the
- 31:14project that he's working on with Jordan Peele and they horror. I'm good.
- 31:22I'm looking for it to Okay, I'm not a horror person, that's the
- 31:26thing. I'm not even a harbor. But I'm looking forward to seeing what
- 31:30these crazed maniacs cook up, because it's like, ain't no way, Todeo's
- 31:34out of his mind a lot of times, and then Jordan thinks everything's funny.
- 31:38So I just like them together, Like last year, even the year
- 31:42before, they have posted a picture on Twitter, and I screamed, I
- 31:45said, what the fuck are y'all doing together? Like certain two certain people
- 31:48should not be working together because they will f you up royally, and I
- 31:52think these are two people who can do that. So I know, I
- 31:56don't know, Ben, I'm I'm trying to see what they're doing. I'm
- 31:59trying to see they're been talking about. Yeah, I'm just not a sorry,
- 32:02it's not something I'm like, oh, I you know, what are
- 32:06they doing? I'm good if you know, if people prove me wrong and
- 32:09it's something I might want to check out. But I just died it.
- 32:12Man. I do not play horror games at all, like, never have
- 32:15from the first Resident Evil. It's never missed something that interests me. M
- 32:20that's fine. Yeah. Also in the state of play, they have Rise
- 32:24of the Ronan game is I'm assuming about Ronan's and they're talking about like one
- 32:31on one sword combat stuff like that. There playing that the Ghost of Yeah,
- 32:40played that for a minute. It was cool. Uh, it was
- 32:44a big it was a big game, like yeah, and I just didn't
- 32:47care enough to keep going, Like you know, I did some ship in
- 32:52and it had some battles, had some good times. It was cool.
- 32:54It was very beautiful, but I was like, whatever, you know,
- 32:59like just gave up. Didn't feel like yeah, yeah, I mean there's
- 33:02a lot of like open world type stuff. He is Stellar Blade, Deep
- 33:07Dive, Dragon's Dog, More two Sonic and Shadow generations as in Sonic the
- 33:14Hedgehog. So a new Sheanic game that's coming out to all platforms, every
- 33:17fucking platform. Imaginal is there. Uh literally, I'm like, damn Silent
- 33:22Hill. Another Silent Hill spin off is coming. I thought that's what the
- 33:27Jordan I thought that's what they're working on together. I don't know. Yeah,
- 33:31I don't know because I men don't worry about it. Yeah, I
- 33:37told you I care about it. So no, they are. Yeah,
- 33:42they're making a game, but it's a completely separate situation upcoming home. It's
- 33:45called o D. I know he like paid tribute because before Kojima was working
- 33:52on a not Silent Hill, it might have been Hill. He was working
- 33:57on a hard game before, and so in the trailer for the new one,
- 34:01they paid tribute to that old one. There's like subtle clues to the
- 34:06one before it might have been Silent Hill, or I think it is Silent
- 34:09Hill, right, Yeah, I think it's it's Resident Evil Silent Hill.
- 34:15If you're talking about that, then yeah, yeah, I think it was
- 34:17Silent Hill, though. I think he was working on the Silent Hill game
- 34:20before and now before he left, you know, and had to form his
- 34:22own company and all that shit. So but in the trailer for the new
- 34:25one, they paid some tribute to it there. I noticed because I pay
- 34:29attention and I don't even when I don't care. There's some game called Dave
- 34:34the Diver that's going to have Godzilla in it. Oh shit. So and
- 34:37like a lot of these, you got to actually watch the trailer that get
- 34:40the gist of what the game is about. Zundless Zone zero, Let's see
- 34:46Metro Awakening VR. Oh yeah, and there's a lot. There's some VR
- 34:49stuff that's been announced as well. So I don't know if you've I don't
- 34:52care to strike you. You don't strike me as a VR person. I
- 34:54don't know if you even messed with you before, like it, would you
- 35:00do it again? Yeah? I was waiting for the VR for the PS
- 35:04five to drop, and then it did drop, and they stood and dropping
- 35:07off games for it, and they didn't support it. There's been no support,
- 35:09So we'll see if they're going to abandon it or give it some more
- 35:13support. Everybody, it's abandoned. It's effectively been abandoned for many years now,
- 35:17so but they know that. No, the PS five win just dropped
- 35:21last year. No, listen, listen, Yes, and they're announcing more
- 35:24VR stuff at this state of play. And what I'm telling you is until
- 35:28I see some real action, no, No, they ain't done nothing with
- 35:30it. Yeah, they haven't done the what do you call a game?
- 35:35The Starfighter, the X wing game they had that ship was supposed to be
- 35:38incredible in VR. So I was waiting for the new VR headset because I
- 35:43have that game already. So I was waiting for the new VR headset.
- 35:45But that shit's dumb expensive and I'm like, I'm not buying that to play
- 35:50this one Star Wars game. So that's been that's been old of and then
- 35:54Apple joined is pretty dope. So now i'm you know, I'm thinking about
- 35:58you know, I'm looking at that. But yeah, even that, I'll
- 36:00definitely wait for, you know, Volume two. A game that I am
- 36:04super into that I haven't even played yet and I am so afraid to start
- 36:07playing is Power World. And the reason why I'm afraised because I know I'm
- 36:14gonna get assessed with it. It's it's everyone's calling it basically Pokemon with guns,
- 36:20and I know you've seen it and heard about it by shout out to
- 36:23Lunar Engineer who says he is knee deep in that and he's been in that.
- 36:28They've even pourted it over to VR, and Luna is very big into
- 36:31VR. He has a quest, so we know we're gonna see some video
- 36:34from him. But literally, power is all the stuff that I've wanted to
- 36:37do in Pokemon and wish I could do, and they just fucking did it
- 36:40and added some you know, fucked up shit to it, and I'm with
- 36:44it. I'm about that life and the fact that, like they said,
- 36:46like right now, it's nineteen million players across the lid, it's probably twenty
- 36:52now literally as we speak, it just keeps going up by like a million
- 36:54every every every twelve hours. So and this shit just dropped like earlier this
- 37:00or in January. And it's technically still like preview, like it's I mean,
- 37:05and on paper it's still like preview. It's not like the final release,
- 37:08but like between the sheer amount of intention and players and what I'm seeing
- 37:15of it being open and pretty much it's not like no general main like,
- 37:20there's no main story. You just do what the fuck you want to do
- 37:22with your pals aka Pokemon. Like it's just it's just it just goes back
- 37:28to my heydays of like being deeply gamer, deep deep gamer and again being
- 37:32a huge Pokemon fan and being in that life and really caring, and it
- 37:37got and for me, it got so boring after a while. So to
- 37:38be able to essentially kind of y'all ripping off of them, I ain't gonna
- 37:43hold you like I don't know if you've seen the character designs, Ben,
- 37:45but oh yeah, straight chat moves is yes, it's you know, it's
- 37:52it's it's copied my homework, but try to change it up a little bit.
- 37:55And it's like, I don't know, y'all might have been looking over
- 38:00on people's papers, but you know, you know, you try to make
- 38:02enough of a change to try to get over it. And of course,
- 38:07you know, the Pokemon people don't like that. They said they're going to
- 38:09be investigating, so we'll see how long this lasts. But in the meantime,
- 38:13I feel like I need to get on this and this could potentially this
- 38:16could be the game that actually brings me back to gaming. It makes me
- 38:20sit there and actually stream. And but I'm also afraid because I don't want
- 38:22to overdo it. I don't want to overdo it. But I mean,
- 38:27yeah, I've read up art it. I just I don't I haven't played
- 38:35any of these the survival games that it hasn't struck my interest, I know,
- 38:40because like Fortnight type games. Yeah, well Fortnite's more massive. This
- 38:45is like in the vein of Arc with the Dinosaur. It's a lot of
- 38:50things mixed into it. Yeah, but it's got a lot of Arc or
- 38:53days past with the zombies like you you know, you start off punching trees
- 39:00built, you grab some rocks, you build up for Yeah, it's got
- 39:04the Fortnite. Yeah. It has a lot of components of a lot of
- 39:07successful games in it and then throws in a ghetto rigged kind of Pokemon ship.
- 39:13And I learned that the main designer is a high schooler. Yeah one
- 39:16of them. Yep, yep, yep. I was like, what good
- 39:20for you? But yeah, not not the biggest interest in the I am
- 39:25This is this is literally my bread and butter. I'm like, oh my
- 39:29god, so like right now, I've been playing this joint RedFest, which
- 39:34is this uh demolition derby car racing game, which I really enjoyed. I
- 39:38think it was free and I've just been loving that. But some twisted metal
- 39:42ship. Yeah not not not as nearly as L's twist metal. You know,
- 39:45this is realistic, well I mean more realistic. Okay, you know
- 39:51you don't have that type of ship so far, I haven't seen it.
- 39:54It's just cars and demolition derby and races where it turns into a demolition derby.
- 40:00So it's I've been enjoying that. And what I've really I've been holding
- 40:04off and I know, I just I want to do Balder's date, you
- 40:07know, and I want to Oh you are going to be sucked in that
- 40:12ship, I know. And I'm like, I've played the demo five hours,
- 40:15your character maybe more. No, I played the demo. It took
- 40:19me like an hour. No, I'm like, I'm just talking about how
- 40:22people have been. Yeah, it took me a good hour to you know,
- 40:27get the design that I wanted. I have my fire dragon born dude,
- 40:31and I wasn't blown away. I don't like that's the thing, Like
- 40:36the interface didn't really do it for me, but the story was getting me
- 40:39right away. So I think within the next couple of weeks, I'm going
- 40:45to just you know, bite the bullet and buy Balder's date. So that's
- 40:49you know, Yeah, I don't know if I'll be streaming that. I
- 40:52won't make no promises. I have been streaming more DJ sets, that's the
- 40:57every Tuesday and every probably every Thursday now at four pm Eastern. I've been
- 41:01doing DJ sets on twitch dot tv slash dj Ben. I mean to make
- 41:06sure you follow me over there. I've been seeing him, yep. But
- 41:09I gaming. I'm still not really a big gaming streamer, So I don't
- 41:14know if I'm going to be doing that at all. We'll see. Yeah,
- 41:16if I get it's over, yeah, you'll have to. I'm it's
- 41:22like really hard for me not to at this point, and you know,
- 41:25as a former gaming addict, I'm like, so, all right, did
- 41:31you ever get to speak about that book last week? No? I didn't
- 41:35because we you know, ended the show talking about Dick Roydan. We got
- 41:38him out of there. I actually finished it. The It's the first in
- 41:44a series from n K Jamison The City We Became. I'm not sure the
- 41:50name of the series, but the sequel just dropped a few weeks ago,
- 41:52I think. But I picked up the first book, The City We Became.
- 41:57It's a story about out I don't want to give away too much,
- 42:04but it's a story about avatars and the cities they represent. So different people
- 42:10represent different cities, and they are the Avatar, the City and Vegas like
- 42:17Vegas, but New York in this case, this one is mainly centers on
- 42:22New York. And it centers on New York awakening, like the whole Avatar
- 42:25becoming awake and becoming an Avatar of New York and the boroughs each having their
- 42:30own Avatar and them having to come together to fight this great enemy. And
- 42:37I enjoyed it. I'm I'm going to pick up the sequel eventually. It's
- 42:40not like where I'm like, oh, I gotta rush out and get the
- 42:43sequel. I think, people, you know, your mindage may vary on
- 42:45it, but I thought it was a good read. You know, it's
- 42:49the Brooklyn Avatar legit. The Brooklyn Avatar is legit. I definitely fell in
- 42:52love with the Bronx Avatar and I had problems with the Staten Island Avatar as
- 42:59fucking states and the Bronze Avatar was definitely my favorite character in the book.
- 43:06And I actually really loved the Staten Island Avatar, you know, and I
- 43:08understood their choices. That was that was the great thing about the writing,
- 43:13and Kate really did that with that because even though I disagreed with them,
- 43:15I understood where they were coming from and really felt for them, you know,
- 43:19in a way, like I really liked their character. They're in a
- 43:22funck up spot. They're fucked up, but they're in a funck up spot
- 43:24and they were you know, raised up, fucked up. Yeah, and
- 43:31it's it's got some love crafty and elements. I'll say that it definitely feels
- 43:37like Get Another in the vein of love craft country, of retaking and reclaiming
- 43:44the love craft mythos, and you know, because it's there's a lot of
- 43:49racism and love crafts work reclaiming that and re examining that. And I really
- 43:53enjoyed that side of it too. So yeah, I would definitely recommend this
- 43:58for you know, if you want a good novel, good read, really
- 44:00dope city book. No, It's a series the sequel just dropped, and
- 44:05there's going to be more than two. I think they're playing at least three
- 44:07books in the series by NK. Jamison, Yep, The City We Became.
- 44:12I'm not sure the name of the sequel, but you can find out
- 44:14once you get the first one. So okay, and last show, we
- 44:16were unfortunately surprised by the fact that Outlaw Johnny black Ben dropped dropped in September.
- 44:22You did get to see it. I did get to see it,
- 44:27and I I liked it all right. Now, this thing when we talked
- 44:34to Michael John White, he explained it, if you're looking for a sequel
- 44:37to Black Dynamite, this isn't it. And I was still I didn't believe
- 44:42him. You know, I was like, fuck that, nigga, give
- 44:44me my sequel to Black Dynamite, and so I wanted to. I watched
- 44:49it looking for a sequel to Black Dynamite, and this is no sequel to
- 44:51Black Dynamite. There's comedy, but it's just not on the level of Black
- 44:54Dynamite. I think Black Dynamite is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen.
- 44:58To this base se quotable, I quoted all the time. But Black
- 45:02Dynamoe, I sell drugs in the community. I'm declaring on anyone some drugs
- 45:07in the community. But black I still drugs. I still drugs to the
- 45:14community. It is one of the funniest. So he's so insulted by it.
- 45:21So you ignored. So you ignored what he said that it wasn't a
- 45:25sequel or even a spiritual sequel, because it's a Western and it's just different,
- 45:30like the joke. So what did you get out of it? It
- 45:32was a cool Western, I guess, you know, I guess, yeah,
- 45:37it was. It was cool. Man. This ain't one of the
- 45:43Michael John joints. You know, I'll like, yo, if you ain't
- 45:45seen Black Dynamite, go see Black Dynamite. You know, Michael John got
- 45:49a million joints the version. Look, if you want some you know,
- 45:52if you want some action. You know, I got a million joints on
- 45:57Netflix, on pretty much every streaming network filled with you know, dope action.
- 46:01This was like, if you want a comedy Western, I would say,
- 46:07peep it. You know, with black people. There's some beautiful black
- 46:10women in all the government, you know, I mean, I know this
- 46:13is supposed to be comedy, but what about ship like the heart of they
- 46:15fall not they falls fire. Bro, That's what I'm saying. Like you
- 46:19say, if you got to see Western black people, I would definitely say
- 46:22you would say that one. You know. Yeah, yeah, sorry,
- 46:28let's be real. But you know, I love you, bro, but
- 46:30yeah, this ain't. It was cool, you know what I mean.
- 46:35It's cool, but I mean I don't believe you. It keeps it gets
- 46:37worse as you continue, and the and the size and the E and I
- 46:42and then I don't know, bro, all the all the vowels ain't it
- 46:45ain't doing it for me? So well, before we get out of here,
- 46:47you know, I do have to say that this week was also monumental.

- 48:44no, this book has been a part of me, my whole life.
- 48:49Yeah, straight up and down. There are themes in this book I've
- 48:51been thinking about my whole life, you know, their theories and ideas that
- 48:54I've been thinking about since I first fell in love with music, and I
- 49:00poured everything into this shit. Man, it's something so yeah, so proud
- 49:04of you. I'm always, always, always so proud of you. Thank

- 49:25this. So those are my three comic goals for this year. Oh and
