Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Reality TV.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Cringe, the world famous podcast.
- 0:11Speaker 1: I'm one of your hosts, Delia, and I'm here with
- 0:14Speaker 1: my real tight homegirl and my daughter-in-law, the incomparable, the illustrious,
- 0:19Speaker 1: the incandescent Beatrice.
- 0:22Speaker 2: That's me.
- 0:23Speaker 1: We are here to talk sister wives, honey. Now, if
- 0:28Speaker 1: you follow along, you know that we were not here
- 0:30Speaker 1: to give a recap last week, and we're not really
- 0:32Speaker 1: going to dig too much into that episode this week.
- 0:35Speaker 1: We're going to cover a little bit of it, but
- 0:37Speaker 1: we're going to focus on the most recent episode in
- 0:40Speaker 1: our recap. But before we get into it, we do
- 0:43Speaker 1: have to issue you a very important and timely disclaimer.
- 0:47Speaker 1: It's very serious.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Please, hide your wife.
- 0:51Speaker 1: And you better hide those rugrats, too.
- 0:53Speaker 3: You better hide those kittens.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Get out of here.
- 0:55Speaker 1: This is an irreverent podcast. We're stupid. We're silly. We're
- 0:59Speaker 1: just here to have some fun and talk about some
- 1:01Speaker 1: Mormons on the television.
- 1:03Speaker 3: And so if you're sensitive. Get out of here, will ya?
- 1:07Speaker 1: You buzzkill. You might want to find yourself another dumpster. Bye.
- 1:11Speaker 1: But if you're ready to have that sit down between
- 1:14Speaker 1: Mary and Christine and us.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Then welcome to this dumpster.
- 1:20Speaker 2: And if you like what we do over here, please
- 1:22Speaker 2: be sure to follow us on Instagram at Reality TV Cringe.
- 1:25Speaker 2: And join us on Patreon. Patreon.com slash Reality TV Cringe.
- 1:28Speaker 2: The VIP dumpster is where it's at. We have a
- 1:31Speaker 2: bunch of bonus content over on there. Every episode of
- 1:34Speaker 2: our weekly podcast is uploaded ad-free. It's the best way
- 1:36Speaker 2: to support us.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Truly.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Because we're out here grinding and popping our pussies.
- 1:40Speaker 1: We really are absolutely popping them day and night. Now,
- 1:43Speaker 1: if you are watching on YouTube, please do not forget
- 1:45Speaker 1: to like. And comment and share and subscribe and also
- 1:50Speaker 1: get in the pit and try to hype up someone.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Hype up your girls. Every single thing you do allegedly
- 1:57Speaker 1: helps us in the algorithm and so thank you in advance.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Now Beatrice and I want to acknowledge that there was
- 2:06Speaker 1: a bit of an uproar with Christine last week because
- 2:10Speaker 1: apparently after watching... Not this episode, but the episode before
- 2:14Speaker 1: when Mary and her friends were talking about a potential
- 2:18Speaker 1: meeting with Mary and Christine. They were having, I thought,
- 2:20Speaker 1: a respectful conversation. But apparently, Christine and David, who were
- 2:26Speaker 1: well into their cups, their cups were overflowing.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Allegedly.
- 2:30Speaker 1: I think. They got very upset. They made an Instagram
- 2:34Speaker 1: Live in which they were railing on about Mary and
- 2:38Speaker 1: her posse. And the backlash was swift and brutal.
- 2:44Speaker 2: It's honestly fantastic.
- 2:45Speaker 1: People were not happy with Christine. And so then the
- 2:48Speaker 1: very next day, Christine made some sort of a soft-spoken,
- 2:53Speaker 1: keep-sweet apology for being triggered.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Not even really an apology.
- 2:58Speaker 1: A lot of word salad, a lot of sound and
- 3:01Speaker 1: fury signifying nothing.
- 3:02Speaker 2: I'm speaking my mind.
- 3:04Speaker 3: This is my truth, my Mormon truth.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Well, people didn't like that either. And so Beatrice and I,
- 3:10Speaker 1: we captured both of those videos in case she takes
- 3:12Speaker 1: them down. And we are going to watch them together
- 3:15Speaker 1: and comment inappropriately on Patreon. So definitely check out our
- 3:20Speaker 1: Patreon because we have a lot of fun there. Now,
- 3:22Speaker 1: before we get into our recap, I do have to
- 3:24Speaker 1: ask you, my delightful Beatrice, whether you have any takeaways.
- 3:29Speaker 2: I mean, these episodes weren't that bad.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:32Speaker 2: I mean, especially last week's episode was like a little
- 3:34Speaker 2: bit more entertaining. But.
- 3:38Speaker 2: I don't know. I feel like they're manufacturing drama. Like
- 3:42Speaker 2: the drama between Mary and Christine. Like Mary's like, I've
- 3:45Speaker 2: got to have a conversation with her. And it's like
- 3:47Speaker 2: about nothing. It's like not even that hard of a conversation.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I think Christine and Mary have things to talk
- 3:54Speaker 1: about regarding their own relationship. And what we see so
- 4:00Speaker 1: far is them just kind of defaulting to talking about
- 4:03Speaker 1: Robin and Cody, which they can agree upon. Exactly. I'm
- 4:05Speaker 1: wondering if next week we're going to get a little
- 4:07Speaker 1: bit more into their dynamics.
- 4:08Speaker 2: I hope so.
- 4:09Speaker 1: But I doubt it because they deflect so much that
- 4:12Speaker 1: we rarely get into the meat of it. I think
- 4:15Speaker 1: a lot of it feels very produced, especially Janelle to
- 4:17Speaker 1: me with like the color theory and the line dancing
- 4:21Speaker 1: and her random friend coming over to line dance and
- 4:24Speaker 1: her trying on new clothes. I mean, that's great. And
- 4:27Speaker 1: I kind of do enjoy it, but it doesn't feel authentic.
- 4:31Speaker 1: And again, it's this vibration of a missed opportunity where
- 4:35Speaker 1: we could have this truly robust scintillating and scathing season
- 4:41Speaker 1: where they take Cody and Robin to task. Like this
- 4:44Speaker 1: is just a once in a lifetime opportunity. I don't
- 4:47Speaker 1: know that we get another season with these three women
- 4:50Speaker 1: and yet they're not really using the time wisely according
- 4:52Speaker 1: to what.
- 4:53Speaker 2: I would like. Not at all. I mean, even their
- 4:55Speaker 2: Zoom kitchen meetup last week was kind of a nothing burger.
- 4:59Speaker 2: I thought we were going to see more of their
- 5:00Speaker 2: cooking and have more fun with it.
- 5:02Speaker 4: Recipes.
- 5:03Speaker 2: It was like five minutes of meeting on a Zoom
- 5:07Speaker 2: call and then they hang up.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Now, my takeaway was that there's like a charm factor
- 5:14Speaker 1: to me with visiting with the ladies. Yes, it's boring. Yes,
- 5:19Speaker 1: I have some critiques about Mary's decorating and I'm going
- 5:23Speaker 1: to get into that. But I mean, there's just something
- 5:25Speaker 1: that I do like about it because it's good to
- 5:28Speaker 1: see these women trying new things.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Having their own personal adventures, trying to make amends with
- 5:35Speaker 1: each other, even though maybe they don't really want to.
- 5:38Speaker 1: But like, I don't know. I'm actually, what I'm saying
- 5:40Speaker 1: is I'm actually enjoying it a little bit more than
- 5:44Speaker 1: the first two episodes. I'm not saying that this is sustainable.
- 5:47Speaker 1: I don't see another five seasons of this garbage, but
- 5:51Speaker 1: for what it is right now, I'm not hating it.
- 5:54Speaker 2: I mean, I do like them all together. I don't
- 5:57Speaker 2: like seeing like Christine and David together, for example.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Me neither.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Like get out of my TV. You're so boring.
- 6:03Speaker 1: David's got to go, honey.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Oh my God. I don't want to think about this
- 6:06Speaker 2: old man and his sex proclivities.
- 6:09Speaker 1: His role playing and Elizabeth Hurley fixation. I'm like, oh God,
- 6:14Speaker 1: take him out back and put him down. I've had
- 6:17Speaker 1: enough of that guy and that's for damn sure.
- 6:18Speaker 3: Well, that was my takeaway.
- 6:22Speaker 1: So without further ado, let's get into our recap of
- 6:25Speaker 1: Sister Wives season 21. A little bit of episode three,
- 6:29Speaker 1: but mostly episode four.
- 6:31Speaker 2: So episode four is the pink elephant in the room.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Last week's episode was falling into old feels. And there wasn't,
- 6:40Speaker 2: I mean, there was some interesting stuff in last week's episode.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Mainly it was Mary and her friends talking about going
- 6:47Speaker 2: through the old family photos with the other wives and
- 6:50Speaker 2: and how Mary had made a fun suggestion about recreating
- 6:54Speaker 2: their old, like, polygamist photo, and Christine was all triggered
- 6:59Speaker 2: by it because she didn't want to be put on
- 7:00Speaker 2: the bottom anymore. And Mary tells her friends this, and
- 7:04Speaker 2: she's like, you know, I don't really understand why Christine's
- 7:07Speaker 2: kind of upset about it. Like, I didn't mean to
- 7:10Speaker 2: make her feel like she would be on the bottom.
- 7:11Speaker 2: The other friends are like, well, maybe it just triggered
- 7:16Speaker 2: something in her from her past, and she probably didn't,
- 7:19Speaker 2: you know... want to do another recreation of the photo
- 7:23Speaker 2: because it hurts her feelings and that's perfectly fine. And
- 7:27Speaker 2: I think Mary ultimately understands that after talking to her friends,
- 7:30Speaker 2: her friends were pretty gracious to Christine.
- 7:32Speaker 1: I thought they were entirely gracious. I think it was
- 7:35Speaker 1: Amber who said something like, I thought she wanted to
- 7:38Speaker 1: be the third wife. I thought that that was her
- 7:40Speaker 1: dream all of her life. And now all of a sudden,
- 7:43Speaker 1: because she was the third wife, she's got trauma. I
- 7:46Speaker 1: think two things can be true at once. I think
- 7:48Speaker 1: maybe Christine is, you know, absolutely buying the bullshit of
- 7:52Speaker 1: her cult thought that being the third wife was going
- 7:54Speaker 1: to be great. And then she got there and she's
- 7:56Speaker 1: stuck in the basement and she's ignored and she's dismissed.
- 7:59Speaker 1: And so she's got trauma from that. But as to
- 8:02Speaker 1: their conversation, I thought all of those women were trying
- 8:05Speaker 1: to give Christine grace in the moment and trying to
- 8:07Speaker 1: see it from Christine's side while also advocating for their friend, Mary.
- 8:11Speaker 1: There was nothing in that conversation that struck me as
- 8:14Speaker 1: even remotely disrespectful. In fact, if it was me and
- 8:17Speaker 1: my friends, um, They're imaginary. I don't have friends. Me
- 8:20Speaker 1: and my dog. I would be tearing Christine a new
- 8:23Speaker 1: asshole for all the shit she had said on television
- 8:25Speaker 1: about me. Like I would have a much stronger conversation.
- 8:29Speaker 1: These women were nice.
- 8:31Speaker 2: I thought they were very nice. And I thought it
- 8:33Speaker 2: came across like the friends were trying to help Mary
- 8:36Speaker 2: understand Christine's point of view because Mary thought that the
- 8:40Speaker 2: whole photo thing was really innocent. And Mary's friends were like, well,
- 8:44Speaker 2: maybe Christine feels like it's a trauma thing or whatever.
- 8:50Speaker 2: And Mary's like, oh, you know, I never really thought
- 8:52Speaker 2: about it that way. And I thought it was kind
- 8:54Speaker 2: of interesting that they had this conversation because then in
- 8:57Speaker 2: this week's episode, we have Christine saying something like, you know,
- 9:01Speaker 2: I always felt like I didn't matter, but I never
- 9:04Speaker 2: understood or even acknowledged that the other wives felt that
- 9:08Speaker 2: way too. And so I think that's kind of like
- 9:10Speaker 2: the theme of it is like all three of these
- 9:12Speaker 2: women had their own like unique experiences with Cody. And
- 9:15Speaker 2: I kind of talked about this in my short that
- 9:17Speaker 2: I had posted a couple weeks ago. They all had
- 9:19Speaker 2: their own specific experiences, but they never really thought about
- 9:24Speaker 2: how the other wives would feel, not only in their
- 9:27Speaker 2: relationship with Cody, but in their relationship to each other. Right.
- 9:31Speaker 2: And Robin and this whole family thing, and then their
- 9:33Speaker 2: polygamist structure and their religious structure. And I think when
- 9:38Speaker 2: Mary's talking with her friends, she understands that. But then
- 9:41Speaker 2: as we will talk about in our reaction on Patreon
- 9:44Speaker 2: with Christine, Christine's all triggered by it.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Right.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Because she's just triggered. Yes. Like that's just all it is.
- 9:51Speaker 1: And I think she has it out for Mary.
- 9:54Speaker 2: I know.
- 9:54Speaker 1: To be quite honest. And I'm not going to ever
- 9:56Speaker 1: be the advocate for Mary out here. I feel like
- 9:59Speaker 1: I'm quite critical of the way that she's conducted herself.
- 10:02Speaker 1: I think she has been bitchy. I think she has
- 10:04Speaker 1: potentially been maybe even abusive according to the children in
- 10:07Speaker 1: their opinion. So there's a lot wrong and problematic with
- 10:10Speaker 1: Mary's behavior. But at the same time, out of all
- 10:13Speaker 1: three women, she's the only one to me that feels
- 10:15Speaker 1: like she's willing to do the work. Whether she's doing
- 10:19Speaker 1: the work, I don't know. I don't think she's in therapy,
- 10:20Speaker 1: et cetera. But she seems willing to have conversations and
- 10:24Speaker 1: go deeper. And with Christine, it's always like, yeah, well,
- 10:27Speaker 1: I don't want to go back into it. I don't
- 10:29Speaker 1: want to dig through the past. I just want to
- 10:31Speaker 1: see how we can move forward. And Mary is conscious
- 10:34Speaker 1: enough to realize that that's really not how that works.
- 10:38Speaker 1: And furthermore, I don't really want to have a relationship
- 10:40Speaker 1: with people who are not willing to connect with me
- 10:43Speaker 1: on that level. Like, why would I put myself out there?
- 10:46Speaker 2: I think Mary's ability to be very direct and like
- 10:49Speaker 2: whether or not she has been kind in her direct
- 10:53Speaker 2: communication or not, like I think her ability to be
- 10:56Speaker 2: direct honestly intimidates the other wives. I think it intimidates
- 11:00Speaker 2: Christine because Christine doesn't want to talk about the past
- 11:02Speaker 2: and doesn't want to dredge up any of her trauma.
- 11:04Speaker 2: And I think it intimidates Janelle, who is like a
- 11:07Speaker 2: turbo avoidant personality who doesn't want to deal with anything.
- 11:10Speaker 2: She wants to move on. And I think that's kind
- 11:13Speaker 2: of like the root of their issues. And then Mary
- 11:15Speaker 2: to her friends also talks about how she wants to
- 11:17Speaker 2: meet up with Christine and talk to her about how
- 11:20Speaker 2: she feels uncomfortable interacting with her. And, you know, Christine
- 11:25Speaker 2: has made it very clear that she doesn't want a
- 11:26Speaker 2: relationship with Mary. So she kind of wants to talk
- 11:29Speaker 2: to her about that. And that kind of sets up
- 11:32Speaker 2: this week's episode as well about, you know, I got
- 11:35Speaker 2: to talk to Christine about our relationship and our lack
- 11:38Speaker 2: of friendship.
- 11:39Speaker 1: What's bothering me here is that Christine just seems so immature.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Like she doesn't have a basic ability to communicate the
- 11:48Speaker 1: underlying thing that is causing her to react. So maybe
- 11:52Speaker 1: she says, yeah, of course I'm going to be intimidated
- 11:54Speaker 1: talking to Mary or like, yeah, I don't want to
- 11:56Speaker 1: spend any time with Mary. Why? The deeper question is why,
- 12:00Speaker 1: what happened? Talk about that, communicate about that and how
- 12:04Speaker 1: that made you feel and why you feel at risk
- 12:06Speaker 1: to enter back into a conversation with Mary. But like,
- 12:09Speaker 1: that's The depth we never get from really any of them,
- 12:12Speaker 1: but especially immature Christine. Now, I was on Instagram today
- 12:17Speaker 1: and I was watching somebody's real recap of their attachment styles.
- 12:23Speaker 1: And I forget who it was. I think it was
- 12:24Speaker 1: Little Miss Podcast.
- 12:25Speaker 2: I think you're right. Yes.
- 12:27Speaker 1: And so they were saying that Janelle was just a
- 12:29Speaker 1: pure avoidant. She's avoidantly attached. She does not want to
- 12:32Speaker 1: deal with shit, honey. She just wants to move on
- 12:34Speaker 1: and do her own thing. And then Christine is anxiously attached. Mm-hmm.
- 12:39Speaker 1: And also avoidant a little bit. And Mary is securely
- 12:43Speaker 1: avoidantly attached. So out of all three, it was their
- 12:47Speaker 1: perception that Mary was the most secure in how she's
- 12:51Speaker 1: connecting with people. And I thought that they were actually
- 12:53Speaker 1: pretty right on with that.
- 12:55Speaker 2: I watched that same reel because Ethel actually sent it
- 12:57Speaker 2: to me today too. And I think right now, Mary
- 13:01Speaker 2: appears as the more emotionally mature person. because she's able
- 13:06Speaker 2: to kind of have these conversations with people. I don't
- 13:08Speaker 2: think that's always been the case. I think they've always
- 13:10Speaker 2: kind of been emotionally immature. It seems like Mary has
- 13:16Speaker 2: done a little bit of work in that. So that
- 13:18Speaker 2: way she's able to, to appear more mature than these
- 13:21Speaker 2: other women. I think Christine is that disorganized, anxious, avoidant
- 13:27Speaker 2: attachment style. And Janelle totally is like, so avoidant. She
- 13:31Speaker 2: can't even verbalize it.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Do you think Janelle is avoidant in all other areas
- 13:36Speaker 1: of her life or her other relationships? Or maybe is
- 13:38Speaker 1: she just over this? Like it's not so much being avoidant.
- 13:43Speaker 1: It's more like, I just don't have any bandwidth for
- 13:46Speaker 1: you fools anymore.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Janelle for me strikes me as emotionally avoidant. So I
- 13:51Speaker 2: would say it's in all aspects, but it's mainly her emotions.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Cause I don't think she she's even said it herself.
- 13:57Speaker 2: She's very stoic, which is a good quality. I'm not
- 14:00Speaker 2: like dogging on that, but like at a certain point
- 14:02Speaker 2: in time, you have to be able to feel the
- 14:05Speaker 2: emotions that come up and be able to express that.
- 14:08Speaker 2: That's a marker of maturity is being able to express
- 14:10Speaker 2: your emotions in a healthy, you know, secure way. And
- 14:14Speaker 2: I don't think that Janelle can do that because she
- 14:17Speaker 2: can't even really talk about it.
- 14:18Speaker 1: I don't think she wants to do that. At least
- 14:20Speaker 1: Mary has a curiosity and a deeper desire for connection.
- 14:24Speaker 1: And can I just say something that's, So somewhat inappropriate,
- 14:28Speaker 1: but like I look at body language and if you
- 14:31Speaker 1: notice with Janelle, she's always doing something with her mouth.
- 14:35Speaker 1: And whenever I see this, I'm thinking, what do you
- 14:38Speaker 1: want to say? I feel like there's something you want
- 14:40Speaker 1: to say or something you want to express, or there's some,
- 14:43Speaker 1: some energy that's trying to move through you, but it's
- 14:46Speaker 1: getting stuck right here in your mouth. And of course
- 14:48Speaker 1: she's a Taurus. They're governed by the throat. the throat chakra,
- 14:52Speaker 1: which is communication. And when you're out of alignment in
- 14:56Speaker 1: your life, it shows up by being unable to communicate
- 14:59Speaker 1: or being unable to say the things that you really
- 15:01Speaker 1: want to say. And it just makes me wonder, well, gosh,
- 15:04Speaker 1: if Janelle said the things she really wanted to say,
- 15:07Speaker 1: what would those things be? Like the person to write
- 15:09Speaker 1: the book, if she were to tell the truth, would
- 15:11Speaker 1: be Janelle. For sure.
- 15:13Speaker 2: And for Janelle, I don't even think she's like hiding
- 15:16Speaker 2: it in a malicious way. I think she's repressed. And
- 15:19Speaker 2: I think that's the issue. Whereas like, Christine, I don't
- 15:23Speaker 2: even know with Christine because she's an Aries. So like
- 15:26Speaker 2: you would think that she would be somebody that would
- 15:28Speaker 2: be very dynamic in her communication.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Well, she is, but it's performative.
- 15:32Speaker 2: It is performative. And she doesn't, I mean, she reacts
- 15:35Speaker 2: with her anger sometimes. And so she'll come out saying
- 15:39Speaker 2: things when she's pissed off. But like, other than that,
- 15:42Speaker 2: we don't get a lot either. We don't get a
- 15:44Speaker 2: lot of tears from her. We don't get a lot
- 15:46Speaker 2: of insightful commentary a lot of the time because it's
- 15:51Speaker 2: always about, that's what it is. Christine views the world
- 15:56Speaker 2: only through her own self. She can't see it from
- 15:59Speaker 2: other people's perspectives, and so therefore it's immature. Janelle, I think,
- 16:04Speaker 2: has that capability because she can kind of put herself
- 16:06Speaker 2: in other people's shoes, but she doesn't put herself in
- 16:08Speaker 2: her own shoes, so she's repressed. And then Mary is like, well,
- 16:12Speaker 2: let's talk about it. Let's talk it through. which is
- 16:14Speaker 2: a healthy thing to do, but nobody wants to do
- 16:17Speaker 2: that in this family. Right.
- 16:18Speaker 1: And you mentioned that they're intimidated by Mary's communication style. Well,
- 16:23Speaker 1: there's also, maybe they're afraid because they actually spent decades
- 16:27Speaker 1: with this woman and she was harsh. She was potentially
- 16:32Speaker 1: verbally abusive. And I think there was some physical stuff
- 16:35Speaker 1: that happened between her and Janelle. And so there could
- 16:37Speaker 1: be actually some reticence and a little bit of anxiety
- 16:42Speaker 1: and fear about sitting down with somebody like Mary we
- 16:45Speaker 1: can see as the audience that Mary has made strides
- 16:48Speaker 1: that she seems to be trying in terms of personal development.
- 16:51Speaker 1: But if you had to live with Mary for 30 years,
- 16:54Speaker 1: and if you were abused allegedly by Mary for many
- 16:57Speaker 1: of those years, you might be a little afraid and
- 16:59Speaker 1: trepidatious to sit down across from her.
- 17:02Speaker 2: For sure. And you might be like Christine and be
- 17:04Speaker 2: very reactive when she even puts her name in your mouth. Right.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Like, after everything you've been saying about Mary.
- 17:10Speaker 2: I know, for real.
- 17:11Speaker 1: But anyway.
- 17:14Speaker 2: And so the other things that happened in last week's episode,
- 17:16Speaker 2: we have Truly learning to drive, which, you know, it's
- 17:19Speaker 2: great to see Truly, but I don't care about the
- 17:22Speaker 2: driving lessons. David annoyed me in that as well, because
- 17:25Speaker 2: I'm just like, shut up, peanut gallery.
- 17:28Speaker 1: But I did love that we learned that Truly told
- 17:32Speaker 1: David that she loved him.
- 17:33Speaker 2: I thought that was sweet.
- 17:34Speaker 1: And David said that back to her. And so their
- 17:36Speaker 1: relationship really does seem to be authentic. And in the
- 17:39Speaker 1: absence of her own father in her life, like it's
- 17:42Speaker 1: really great to see this guy step up, whether we
- 17:44Speaker 1: like him or not.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Right.
- 17:46Speaker 1: It's wonderful to see.
- 17:47Speaker 2: And I do like that. We also had Janelle meeting
- 17:50Speaker 2: with the stylist last week to revamp her mom clothes,
- 17:53Speaker 2: which I did kind of like her talking about how
- 17:57Speaker 2: she felt a little sorry for herself, her past self,
- 17:59Speaker 2: because she didn't get to wear the things that she wanted.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Apparently Cody didn't. didn't like earrings so she stopped wearing
- 18:05Speaker 2: earrings and she stopped dressing feminine and you know she
- 18:09Speaker 2: dressed kind of frumpy because she thought that that was
- 18:11Speaker 2: modest and so it's cool that she's out on her
- 18:14Speaker 2: own and she's really trying to find herself and feel
- 18:16Speaker 2: sexy and cute and feminine and I do appreciate that.
- 18:20Speaker 1: The most lovely I've ever seen Janelle the most fantastic
- 18:24Speaker 1: color I've ever seen on her was at Christine's engagement
- 18:29Speaker 1: party or something at the Taqueria Mexican place. It was
- 18:32Speaker 1: like this beautiful, I thought it was more of a
- 18:34Speaker 1: jewel pink.
- 18:35Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 18:35Speaker 1: It was just like this beautiful pink flowy dress. Oh
- 18:39Speaker 1: my God, did it suit her? She looked wonderful. When
- 18:42Speaker 1: they were doing the colors on her, I'm like, some
- 18:44Speaker 1: of those are a little icy. Some of those could
- 18:48Speaker 1: be better. But anyway, I love that she's putting herself
- 18:50Speaker 1: out there and trying something different.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Me too. And then we also have Mary celebrating her birthday.
- 18:56Speaker 2: And she kind of talks a little bit about her
- 18:57Speaker 2: birthday and how it was never really celebrated in the family.
- 19:01Speaker 2: And it didn't really matter to anybody. She brings up
- 19:03Speaker 2: the fact that Janelle got married right after her birthday.
- 19:07Speaker 2: And we did hear something interesting from Janelle saying that
- 19:10Speaker 2: they didn't really have a choice in the day of
- 19:13Speaker 2: her wedding. marriage that they actually the church wanted her
- 19:16Speaker 2: to get married on mary's birthday but then they graciously
- 19:19Speaker 2: pushed it to the day after do we believe that
- 19:21Speaker 2: and you know i had to ask my mormon friend
- 19:24Speaker 2: ethel because i'm like is that a thing that mormons
- 19:26Speaker 2: do and ethel's not a fundamentalist she didn't come from
- 19:29Speaker 2: fundamentalist mormonism she came from lds and she said it's
- 19:32Speaker 2: not really a thing in lds faith but she said
- 19:36Speaker 2: she could see where Janelle was coming from because there's
- 19:39Speaker 2: a lot of like rules and regulations in Mormonism and
- 19:42Speaker 2: especially in fundamentalist Mormonism that maybe they did pick the
- 19:45Speaker 2: day and they didn't really have a choice. She said
- 19:48Speaker 2: in LDS faith, they have to like schedule out the
- 19:52Speaker 2: wedding dates because if you want a temple marriage like
- 19:54Speaker 2: a good mormon then you have to schedule it with
- 19:57Speaker 2: the temple but you can still pick your day so
- 20:00Speaker 2: i'm like i feel like janelle probably could have pushed
- 20:03Speaker 2: it to the weekend after i.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Mean like the next month when they were doing weddings
- 20:07Speaker 1: that's what i'm seeing yeah i think in the first
- 20:10Speaker 1: book they talk a little bit about this and how
- 20:13Speaker 1: mary had to put down her foot and say you
- 20:15Speaker 1: cannot do this because apparently in polygamy The husband is
- 20:20Speaker 1: dedicated to the wife who has the birthday. So that
- 20:23Speaker 1: is her day. He's not going to spend it at
- 20:25Speaker 1: any other woman's house. He's going to spend it with her.
- 20:27Speaker 1: And so if Janelle's birthday follows on, excuse me, Janelle's
- 20:31Speaker 1: anniversary falls on Mary's birthday, then she's probably not going
- 20:35Speaker 1: to see him all of the time. And she wants that.
- 20:37Speaker 1: But then Robin comes into the family and Dayton's birthday
- 20:41Speaker 1: is on Mary's birthday. And so we know Robin's going
- 20:43Speaker 1: to steal Cody away ultimately. But yeah, that's what she
- 20:46Speaker 1: was thinking. And it makes perfect sense to me. Yep.
- 20:49Speaker 2: And Mary does say in this episode, she's like, you know,
- 20:51Speaker 2: my issues with my birthday weren't because of Janelle, but
- 20:54Speaker 2: I'm like, maybe a little bit.
- 20:55Speaker 1: I think Janelle was probably pushing for it. For sure.
- 20:57Speaker 2: I think Mary just kind of says like, you know,
- 21:00Speaker 2: Cody never really celebrated me. And then Dayton's birthday followed
- 21:04Speaker 2: my birthday too. And so like, it just never really
- 21:06Speaker 2: was a priority. So I did kind of like seeing Mary,
- 21:10Speaker 2: you know, throw like a big birthday party for herself.
- 21:12Speaker 2: I did appreciate that. And she does say something like,
- 21:14Speaker 2: when I find my Mia. He better celebrate my birthday.
- 21:18Speaker 2: He better celebrate all of me. And I'm like, you know,
- 21:21Speaker 2: you go, girl. Right.
- 21:22Speaker 1: So when we saw that in the preview, we were thinking, oh,
- 21:24Speaker 1: here goes Mary.
- 21:25Speaker 2: And like cringe.
- 21:25Speaker 1: But when you have the context, yeah, she really does
- 21:27Speaker 1: deserve a partner who's going to focus on her and
- 21:30Speaker 1: celebrate her.
- 21:30Speaker 2: And I did appreciate that. As a fellow Leo where
- 21:32Speaker 2: I'm like, the whole month of August is mine.
- 21:35Speaker 1: You don't say.
- 21:36Speaker 2: I'm like, I can get behind that. And then we
- 21:40Speaker 2: also get a reveal, a reveal of Mary's haunted B
- 21:44Speaker 2: & B that's been renovated. And apparently you have thoughts
- 21:47Speaker 2: about the design choices?
- 21:49Speaker 1: Well, here's the thing. Let me just preface by saying
- 21:53Speaker 1: that I cannot decorate my own house. All of my walls,
- 21:56Speaker 1: except for this one, they're white. There's no art on
- 21:59Speaker 1: them because I always select incorrectly. My furniture, I never
- 22:04Speaker 1: get it right. So I'm just, I'm no expert is
- 22:07Speaker 1: what I'm saying, Beatriz. But at the same time, her kitchen,
- 22:10Speaker 1: I thought, was a vast improvement.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Yes.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Over the old... oak cabinets the cabinets were great and
- 22:18Speaker 1: all of that stuff i thought the cabinetry was great
- 22:20Speaker 1: the stone was great i mean the green everywhere i
- 22:22Speaker 1: was a little like i'm not somebody who likes a
- 22:25Speaker 1: whole lot of green in my house but that's just
- 22:26Speaker 1: a personal preference but then when you move into the
- 22:30Speaker 1: living room with that yeah weird fucking furniture yeah it
- 22:35Speaker 1: was a little that everybody's sitting on i mean i
- 22:37Speaker 1: understand like the throwback to older furniture it's definitely well
- 22:40Speaker 1: made unlike what we're getting in shitified now when you
- 22:43Speaker 1: go to the rooms to gulp Like it's, these are
- 22:46Speaker 1: nice pieces, I guess, but it just looks haunted.
- 22:49Speaker 3: It looks old fashioned.
- 22:52Speaker 1: I didn't like it at all. I'm like a nice
- 22:54Speaker 1: big comfy couch. I want some neutrals. I want a
- 22:57Speaker 1: real fire in the fireplace. I want somebody to come in,
- 23:00Speaker 1: put a proper chimney, maybe get an insert in there
- 23:03Speaker 1: so I can get some heat in this house. I
- 23:04Speaker 1: want warm tones. It was just giving a ghost lives there.
- 23:10Speaker 1: The people under the stairs.
- 23:12Speaker 2: Well, I mean, it is a haunted B & B.
- 23:15Speaker 2: It's literally haunted.
- 23:16Speaker 1: I just, I don't like it. But I was surprised
- 23:19Speaker 1: to hear Mary talk about looking in other cities.
- 23:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:23Speaker 1: To live. Like, is this the first time we've heard that?
- 23:26Speaker 1: Because we thought maybe she's going to settle in Parowan.
- 23:29Speaker 2: And live in the haunted B & B next to
- 23:31Speaker 2: the hoarder house.
- 23:32Speaker 1: But. apparently she's going to be going to different cities,
- 23:35Speaker 1: for example, San Francisco to see whether she wants to
- 23:38Speaker 1: live somewhere else.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Yeah. She's like, I have to decide where I want
- 23:41Speaker 2: to move. And I'm like, interesting.
- 23:43Speaker 1: That's an adventure.
- 23:44Speaker 2: So maybe she'll make this like an Airbnb or something
- 23:47Speaker 2: like Christine and David and get the passive income. I mean,
- 23:50Speaker 2: that's what I think she should do. Yes. So that
- 23:52Speaker 2: way she can have the passive income and stuff when
- 23:54Speaker 2: Sister Wives ultimately gets canceled.
- 23:56Speaker 1: In about four episodes.
- 23:58Speaker 2: But yeah, I mean, I overall, I liked the decorations
- 24:02Speaker 2: I thought the renovations were a vast improvement compared to
- 24:06Speaker 2: what it used to look like but.
- 24:07Speaker 1: It's incongruous with like an old timey Victorian don't you think.
- 24:11Speaker 2: I mean yeah but that's kind of like what people
- 24:13Speaker 2: are doing nowadays like And honestly, it's better than the
- 24:17Speaker 2: millennial gray and white everything. Yes. So I would rather
- 24:20Speaker 2: have some quirky color.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Can you really relax in those chairs though? Everybody seemed like.
- 24:25Speaker 2: So like, oh God. But I mean, look at what
- 24:28Speaker 2: Mary chose for her furniture in the Las Vegas home.
- 24:31Speaker 1: That is a fact.
- 24:32Speaker 2: With the couch with no armrests.
- 24:34Speaker 1: That is a fact. My God, the weirdest furniture from
- 24:37Speaker 1: the consignment store.
- 24:38Speaker 2: It's super weird.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Well, hire a decorator.
- 24:41Speaker 1: I think she did. You're one of the top producers. No,
- 24:43Speaker 1: she has a decorator friend who was not privy to
- 24:46Speaker 1: the choices she was making. I don't think she actually
- 24:48Speaker 1: hired a decorator.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Oh, I thought she hired somebody and she was getting
- 24:51Speaker 2: her friend's approval. So then it's just all Mary.
- 24:54Speaker 3: I believe it's all Mary.
- 24:55Speaker 2: Look, everyone's entitled to their own style.
- 24:57Speaker 1: I just don't like it.
- 24:58Speaker 2: That's great.
- 24:58Speaker 1: And it looks terrible. I really think it looks terrible,
- 25:01Speaker 1: but God bless. Are you going to do those bedrooms too?
- 25:04Speaker 1: Because that's where the ghosts are.
- 25:06Speaker 2: I mean, yeah.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Up in those bedrooms. Ooh, with the dormered ceilings and anyway,
- 25:10Speaker 1: God bless. God bless, Mary.
- 25:12Speaker 2: God bless. Good for you. And then the last thing
- 25:14Speaker 2: that happened last week was the Zoom call where they
- 25:17Speaker 2: shared their recipes, but it was a total nothing burger.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Solomon Grundy. Oh, God.
- 25:22Speaker 2: Who calls goulash Solomon Grundy?
- 25:24Speaker 1: We've got old wounds around the goulash.
- 25:26Speaker 2: I thought that was kind of crazy.
- 25:28Speaker 3: Me too.
- 25:28Speaker 2: That like Christine had this goulash that she called Solomon
- 25:32Speaker 2: Grundy because it was like a family thing that's all,
- 25:35Speaker 2: they all said it. And then because Robin came in,
- 25:37Speaker 2: she got hurt. Because their baby was named Solomon and
- 25:41Speaker 2: you can't call this Solomon Grundy. That's crazy.
- 25:43Speaker 1: And she sent Cody to marry, or excuse me, to
- 25:47Speaker 1: Christine to ask Christine to change the name of it
- 25:49Speaker 1: as opposed to just saying, hey girl, you know, maybe
- 25:52Speaker 1: this is going to be confusing to King Solomon. So
- 25:54Speaker 1: if you could change this to Glouash, that'd be great.
- 25:57Speaker 1: But instead of that, she had Cody go and talk
- 26:00Speaker 1: to Christine and tell her to change the title of
- 26:02Speaker 1: the recipe. It's just so bizarre, but I love, that's
- 26:04Speaker 1: what I'm saying. I love the tidbits like that.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Yes, me too.
- 26:08Speaker 1: More of that, please.
- 26:10Speaker 2: Me too.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Because that's wild.
- 26:11Speaker 2: I just think that's so stupid. If I had a
- 26:14Speaker 2: dish named after Beatrice and my mom was like, yeah,
- 26:17Speaker 2: this is like our Beatrice crunchy or something. I'd be like, yay,
- 26:20Speaker 2: it's me. And it's goulash. Like who doesn't love goulash? Yeah.
- 26:24Speaker 1: And she makes it with meatballs. I know. Sounds delicious. Solomon,
- 26:28Speaker 1: it's the best meal in the house.
- 26:29Speaker 2: But apparently it offends Queen Robin. So whatever. And then
- 26:33Speaker 2: Janelle made a chocolate pie. And I really wish we
- 26:35Speaker 2: could have gotten the recipe for that chocolate pie because
- 26:37Speaker 2: I would have fucked that shit up. Although we had
- 26:39Speaker 2: to have this like obligatory Mary talking about how she
- 26:42Speaker 2: hates pies.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Right. But it was on the heels of Janelle and
- 26:46Speaker 1: Christine talking about how they had that one time where
- 26:49Speaker 1: we made all of those pies to raise money for
- 26:52Speaker 1: Christmas and Mary's. the odd man out because she wasn't
- 26:55Speaker 1: a part of that. And so she's got to create
- 26:57Speaker 1: a story now that she hates pie. Bah humbug.
- 26:59Speaker 3: But she probably just feels sad because she was not included.
- 27:02Speaker 1: In the pie making festivities.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Well, maybe you need to grow a pear and like pie.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Who doesn't like pie?
- 27:08Speaker 1: I have no idea, but that pie did need a
- 27:10Speaker 1: whipped cream topping.
- 27:11Speaker 2: For sure.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Come on now.
- 27:12Speaker 2: If I would have made that, I would have made
- 27:13Speaker 2: a whipped cream topping.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Are we on the same planet, girl?
- 27:15Speaker 2: Maybe I need to make that French silk pie again
- 27:17Speaker 2: for Thanksgiving.
- 27:18Speaker 3: Oh my God, please.
- 27:20Speaker 1: That was so good.
- 27:21Speaker 2: And then Mary made these candy cane pastries, which I
- 27:24Speaker 2: thought she was making real candy canes when she said it.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Agreed. Me too.
- 27:27Speaker 2: But it's some kind of pastry with like fruit cocktail
- 27:29Speaker 2: or something in it.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Was that fruit cocktail?
- 27:31Speaker 2: It looked like fruit cocktail.
- 27:33Speaker 1: That's weird.
- 27:34Speaker 2: And I thought that was bizarre. I'm like, okay, you
- 27:36Speaker 2: like that, but you don't like pies?
- 27:37Speaker 1: All right. Yeah, but we have some of those types
- 27:40Speaker 1: of pastries. Like they're Danish.
- 27:42Speaker 2: They're called. I don't know.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Something with a K, but like, and sometimes like, Girls
- 27:49Speaker 1: sell them for school and stuff like that. And they've
- 27:52Speaker 1: got like raspberry and apple and strawberry. Crumbs, crullers, something
- 27:57Speaker 1: like that. Crumble, crinkle.
- 27:58Speaker 5: Crinkle.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Crinkle. Crinkles.
- 28:01Speaker 1: They are delicious.
- 28:02Speaker 2: I love a crinkle. And Denver.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Remember the taste of Denmark in Denver?
- 28:05Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Their crinkles are so fucking good.
- 28:09Speaker 2: We're hungry.
- 28:09Speaker 1: But it kind of... Yes, we're constantly starving. But those
- 28:13Speaker 1: look really delicious. But if you're putting... Some sort of
- 28:17Speaker 1: fruit salad in there?
- 28:18Speaker 2: Fruit cocktail in it.
- 28:18Speaker 1: Fruit cocktail?
- 28:20Speaker 2: Which I mean could be good. Uh-uh. Dolly Parton's got
- 28:22Speaker 2: a dump cake that has fruit cocktail in it. Apparently
- 28:25Speaker 2: it's really good.
- 28:25Speaker 1: I would eat the fuck out of that.
- 28:26Speaker 2: I know.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Okay, anyway.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Anyway, so now on to this week's episode, season 21,
- 28:31Speaker 2: episode 4.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Well, but wait, was there some sort of awkwardness with
- 28:34Speaker 1: the ladies when they're swapping conversation over recipes?
- 28:39Speaker 3: I don't remember.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Did it seem a little odd?
- 28:41Speaker 2: I mean, it's odd because it's on Zoom.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Why are we doing this?
- 28:44Speaker 2: This is stupid on Zoom.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Because we have to film content for the show?
- 28:47Speaker 2: Yeah, and nobody wants to be together and rent an
- 28:50Speaker 2: Airbnb and cook together because, God forbid, we share our
- 28:53Speaker 2: kitchen because it's just going to trigger old memories.
- 28:55Speaker 1: Right. It's going to trigger my trauma. Yeah, a lot
- 28:58Speaker 1: of that talk.
- 28:59Speaker 2: Just like get over it.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:00Speaker 2: So this week's episode, not a lot happened for like
- 29:04Speaker 2: the first half of the episode.
- 29:06Speaker 1: You're right.
- 29:06Speaker 2: I mean, we have Janelle and her friend seeing her house. Christina.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Christina.
- 29:10Speaker 2: Christina and we remember her from nola we do we
- 29:13Speaker 2: remember her she seems nice she seems like a good
- 29:15Speaker 2: friend to janelle that tlc is paying to be on
- 29:18Speaker 2: the show and she goes and sees janelle's house and
- 29:21Speaker 2: janelle can't be bothered to unpack her house so we
- 29:23Speaker 2: have to see it like a hoarder fucking house with
- 29:28Speaker 2: all of her shit piled in the front room.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Yeah that would get on my nerves i'm just like
- 29:32Speaker 1: if it's gonna be on tv and this is the
- 29:34Speaker 1: first time people are seeing my house i'm going to
- 29:36Speaker 1: unpack it. You know that's right.
- 29:38Speaker 2: You can hire U-Haul movers to unpack it for you.
- 29:40Speaker 2: It's going to be perfect.
- 29:40Speaker 1: I'm going to have people come in and stage it.
- 29:42Speaker 1: My God. Yeah, I don't understand. But like, that's okay.
- 29:45Speaker 1: This is her house. She wants to be able to
- 29:47Speaker 1: put her things in a place that makes sense for her.
- 29:49Speaker 1: She is a Taurus. Her environment is very important.
- 29:53Speaker 2: I'll just keep my mouth shut.
- 29:54Speaker 1: But I did like her kitchen.
- 29:56Speaker 2: Yes, her kitchen looked nice.
- 29:57Speaker 1: It looked great.
- 29:58Speaker 2: And then we have David and Christine playing couples card games.
- 30:02Speaker 2: And I'm just wondering why we need to see this.
- 30:04Speaker 1: We don't need to see this.
- 30:05Speaker 2: We literally don't.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Especially when it's centered around sex and that... forces me to.
- 30:11Speaker 5: Conjure in my mind imaginal scenes where those two are
- 30:17Speaker 5: humping it out and i'm not into it i'm like
- 30:19Speaker 5: can you even get it up why are we having
- 30:20Speaker 5: this conversation do you even have sex i don't know
- 30:22Speaker 5: and that's rude and so now i'm thinking rude thoughts
- 30:25Speaker 5: rude and you're forcing me to do that david and christine.
- 30:28Speaker 2: Because of course people of your age can have.
- 30:30Speaker 4: Sex see i see i see what you did right
- 30:34Speaker 4: there you would be shocked and appalled i don't want
- 30:37Speaker 4: to hear it no how much sex I actually have
- 30:41Speaker 4: with your father-in-law.
- 30:42Speaker 1: That man is a strapping hunk of lumberjack Texan. Let
- 30:48Speaker 1: me tell you. And he's also six years younger than
- 30:50Speaker 1: me because I got it like that, honey. And when
- 30:52Speaker 1: he swings those hips my way, honey, there's nothing I
- 30:56Speaker 1: ain't doing besides cracking it open. That's all I'm doing
- 30:59Speaker 1: around here. So I want to know about your sex life.
- 31:02Speaker 2: I want to die.
- 31:03Speaker 1: 30 years old.
- 31:04Speaker 3: Lesbian.
- 31:05Speaker 1: It's popping. Scissoring. All crazy. Compared to me, I can
- 31:08Speaker 1: guarantee I'm having more sex than you.
- 31:10Speaker 2: It ain't a competition.
- 31:12Speaker 1: You got my dandruff.
- 31:13Speaker 2: It's not a competition.
- 31:14Speaker 1: You got my dandruff.
- 31:15Speaker 3: But don't think people that are in their 40s aren't
- 31:18Speaker 3: having sex.
- 31:19Speaker 2: You're the one that's sitting here talking about if David
- 31:21Speaker 2: can get it up. And I'm just saying that people
- 31:22Speaker 2: of your age still can't.
- 31:23Speaker 1: He is so much older than I am. How old
- 31:26Speaker 1: is he?
- 31:26Speaker 2: I think he's 60. He's two years.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Older than I am. That's different. Do not get it misaligned, honey.
- 31:35Speaker 2: I'm not.
- 31:35Speaker 1: Do not get it twisted.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Look, I'm glad.
- 31:38Speaker 1: Anyway, back to that stupid game. I just like, please,
- 31:40Speaker 1: I do not want to imagine David struggling atop Christine
- 31:45Speaker 1: as she's biting her lip, enjoying- pretending to enjoy sex
- 31:49Speaker 1: with an old man she probably.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Does enjoy it though because she didn't get any with
- 31:53Speaker 2: cody and so she's like you're right she's loving her
- 31:57Speaker 2: life i mean she's talking about how she wants to
- 31:58Speaker 2: have car sex and now i'm thinking about them having
- 32:00Speaker 2: car sex and then thinking and role playing and how
- 32:04Speaker 2: david wants her to role play and she's like cringing
- 32:08Speaker 2: about it.
- 32:08Speaker 1: She could be a clown he.
- 32:12Speaker 5: Could be a peanut the peanut man lord these people
- 32:16Speaker 5: are not sexy.
- 32:17Speaker 2: I mean, he talked about wearing a maid outfit. And
- 32:19Speaker 2: I'm like, I don't even want to think about that.
- 32:21Speaker 1: He's talking about a hall pass with Elizabeth Hurley.
- 32:24Speaker 2: Which I had to look her up. I mean, I
- 32:26Speaker 2: know they showed her a picture in this episode.
- 32:28Speaker 1: She's gorgeous.
- 32:29Speaker 2: Sure.
- 32:30Speaker 1: I mean, she's got a long line of films and
- 32:33Speaker 1: photographs in which she's definitely gorgeous. But I mean, why
- 32:36Speaker 1: would you mention that? Like, Christine didn't bring that up.
- 32:39Speaker 2: I know.
- 32:40Speaker 1: We weren't on the subject of hall passes, I don't think.
- 32:43Speaker 2: Well, and she's already like an insecure person.
- 32:45Speaker 1: Very much so.
- 32:46Speaker 2: And like she even was like, I don't even want
- 32:48Speaker 2: to think about hall passes. But then she also had
- 32:51Speaker 2: to be like, yeah, no, Elizabeth Herdy. Like I totally
- 32:54Speaker 2: be into her too because, you know, like I'm kinky
- 32:56Speaker 2: and I'm freaky like that.
- 32:57Speaker 1: Because she's embarrassed because her husband had a hall pass
- 33:01Speaker 1: and he came up with it like that. So that
- 33:03Speaker 1: begs the question, do you have a hall pass? Like
- 33:06Speaker 1: if you had a hall pass, if you could scissor
- 33:10Speaker 1: with anybody.
- 33:11Speaker 2: With a saw. I'd have to really think about it,
- 33:14Speaker 2: but I could name your daughter's hall pass as probably
- 33:17Speaker 2: like Rihanna or something. Or like Kristen Stewart. Kristen Stewart
- 33:21Speaker 2: is one. She's always like that. Really? You are so
- 33:24Speaker 2: rude with other people. Kristen Stewart? Well, you're not a lesbian.
- 33:30Speaker 1: I am not a lesbian. That's true. But I can
- 33:32Speaker 1: recognize beautiful women. And she is beautiful. She looks like
- 33:35Speaker 1: she stinks. That's so rude.
- 33:36Speaker 3: She looks like she stinks. My hall pass.
- 33:39Speaker 1: So now you're judging your daughter's preferences. My hall pass.
- 33:42Speaker 1: is jason momoa which is obviously so gen x of
- 33:46Speaker 1: me but like only one iteration no two iterations of
- 33:49Speaker 1: jason momoa first is like when he surfs when he
- 33:52Speaker 1: was a younger man and he was surfing and he's
- 33:54Speaker 1: coming out of the ocean with his surfboard yes mama
- 33:56Speaker 1: all day every day slayed the house boots down and
- 34:00Speaker 1: then jason momoa is called rogo i mean fair it
- 34:04Speaker 1: was called rogo rogo yes ma'am my husband's hall pass.
- 34:09Speaker 2: I know who it is it's.
- 34:12Speaker 3: Anymore.
- 34:13Speaker 2: He's got a crush on her though.
- 34:14Speaker 1: For rum the substance. No, it's Jennifer Connelly. Do you
- 34:18Speaker 1: know who that is? Yes.
- 34:19Speaker 2: And it's basically, yeah.
- 34:20Speaker 1: But from the 90s. I know. From the 80s and 90s.
- 34:23Speaker 1: She was very beautiful.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Of course she was. And that's also another one of
- 34:26Speaker 2: your daughters she loves. She loves a brunette.
- 34:28Speaker 1: She does love a brunette.
- 34:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:30Speaker 1: I mean, green is close.
- 34:32Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 34:33Speaker 3: You don't have a hall pass?
- 34:34Speaker 1: You can't even think of one. I can't even think.
- 34:35Speaker 1: You love a blonde lady.
- 34:36Speaker 2: I do love a blonde lady.
- 34:37Speaker 1: Oh, I do have a hall pass.
- 34:39Speaker 2: It's Harley Quinn. It's Margot Robbie.
- 34:42Speaker 1: Ass Harley Quinn? She looks like she's stinky too.
- 34:45Speaker 3: You're so fucking rude. I'm just saying.
- 34:48Speaker 2: You're judging our preference. Now you're judging.
- 34:50Speaker 1: I'm not judging.
- 34:51Speaker 2: Okay, you're like fucking, you're like Mrs. Hulk Hogan with
- 34:55Speaker 2: the 30-year-old.
- 34:58Speaker 1: You have to follow us on Patreon to get that reference. Anyway,
- 35:01Speaker 1: enough of David and Christine. I'm so over it.
- 35:05Speaker 2: No one cares that y'all are fucking. That's great.
- 35:08Speaker 1: And gross.
- 35:08Speaker 2: But we're done. We're done talking about it. And Christine
- 35:11Speaker 2: wanting to ride a motorcycle because she thinks it's exciting.
- 35:15Speaker 2: It's exhilarating.
- 35:17Speaker 4: Okay.
- 35:19Speaker 1: There's a reason they call them donor cycles.
- 35:21Speaker 2: Yeah, yikes.
- 35:22Speaker 1: Be careful.
- 35:22Speaker 2: But you've got to admit, a motorcycle rider is.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Can be.
- 35:27Speaker 2: I don't know. Your husband used to ride motorcycles. Yes,
- 35:30Speaker 2: he did.
- 35:30Speaker 1: Ooh, on our second date, he showed up in his
- 35:32Speaker 1: little motorcycle and his little outfit and everything like that.
- 35:35Speaker 2: And that's why you fell in love with him.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Well, it didn't hurt, honey. It did not hurt. But
- 35:39Speaker 1: he soon after sold it.
- 35:40Speaker 2: Well, yeah, because you told him to.
- 35:41Speaker 3: Because it's dangerous.
- 35:42Speaker 1: Well, it is dangerous. It's a long fucking story. He
- 35:45Speaker 1: still resents me and he has every right to resent
- 35:48Speaker 1: me for that. But I just don't want to be
- 35:50Speaker 1: married to somebody who's on a fucking motorcycle all the
- 35:52Speaker 1: time and who can get a traumatic brain injury. Been there,
- 35:55Speaker 1: done that. Anyway, moving on.
- 35:59Speaker 2: Yike um all right so then mary and jen are
- 36:02Speaker 2: talking in her renovated kitchen about mary confronting christine about
- 36:07Speaker 2: the fact that christine doesn't want to have a relationship
- 36:09Speaker 2: with her and she just wants to know more about
- 36:11Speaker 2: that and wants to clear the air with her because
- 36:15Speaker 2: if they're going to interact with each other in the
- 36:18Speaker 2: future with all of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren and all
- 36:22Speaker 2: of the kids and everything mary has to be cordial
- 36:25Speaker 2: and mary does talk about something like um She thinks
- 36:29Speaker 2: that Christine resents her because Mary didn't stand up for
- 36:33Speaker 2: her at the knife in the kidneys conversation with Cody
- 36:36Speaker 2: because she was kind of sitting there with a stank
- 36:38Speaker 2: face and not saying anything.
- 36:41Speaker 1: Specifically when Cody was accusing Christine of not being good
- 36:45Speaker 1: to any of her sister wives, but in particular Robin.
- 36:49Speaker 1: As we recall, Mary sat there with this kind of
- 36:52Speaker 1: smug expression on her face and she did not come
- 36:56Speaker 1: to Christine's defenses. But here is another example of Mary
- 37:00Speaker 1: not taking it all the way and apologizing for what
- 37:03Speaker 1: she really did. Because those of us who watched that
- 37:06Speaker 1: season remember Mary's subsequent talking head in which she told
- 37:10Speaker 1: us on the camera. that she was glad Cody said it.
- 37:14Speaker 2: Right.
- 37:14Speaker 1: Do you remember that?
- 37:15Speaker 2: I do remember that.
- 37:16Speaker 1: So she doesn't mention how she said that and how
- 37:18Speaker 1: she agreed, therefore, with what Cody was saying. So now
- 37:21Speaker 1: you want to walk it back and pretend, oh, man,
- 37:24Speaker 1: I don't think he should have said that and I
- 37:26Speaker 1: really should have stuck up for Christine.
- 37:27Speaker 4: Uh-uh.
- 37:28Speaker 1: You agreed with him. Exactly. And you were glad that
- 37:30Speaker 1: he did it.
- 37:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:31Speaker 1: Talk about that.
- 37:33Speaker 2: After it was already filmed. Like, she's talking about in
- 37:36Speaker 2: the actual moment, but it's like, you're right. She is
- 37:38Speaker 2: forgetting about the talking head that was filmed way after that,
- 37:41Speaker 2: where she still had time to reflect and could have
- 37:44Speaker 2: stood up for Christine at that point in time, but
- 37:45Speaker 2: still chose not to. She doubled down. And so Mary's like,
- 37:48Speaker 2: you know, maybe Christine misinterpreted that.
- 37:51Speaker 1: I don't think so.
- 37:53Speaker 2: You were pretty clear about your intentions and your loyalty.
- 37:56Speaker 2: I will say that Mary does... Reflect on it in
- 37:59Speaker 2: a way where she's like, yeah, I was still loyal
- 38:02Speaker 2: to Cody at the time. And, you know, I didn't
- 38:05Speaker 2: feel like I could say anything supporting Christine at all.
- 38:10Speaker 2: And that's, I appreciate that. But you're right. She isn't
- 38:15Speaker 2: fully owning anything. No. And she always has to make
- 38:19Speaker 2: an excuse for her behavior. Like she can never just say,
- 38:22Speaker 2: I was the one that fucked up and didn't verbalize it.
- 38:26Speaker 2: It's got to turn into... well, I didn't feel like
- 38:28Speaker 2: I could because I was loyal to Cody.
- 38:30Speaker 1: It wasn't easy.
- 38:32Speaker 2: It wasn't easy. Right. And my loyalty was to Cody
- 38:35Speaker 2: and he would have been mad if I said anything.
- 38:38Speaker 1: And I was desperate and I was hopeful and I
- 38:41Speaker 1: was thinking maybe I could get back together with him.
- 38:44Speaker 1: And so I was on his side. Like all of
- 38:46Speaker 1: those things, saying those things out loud would go a
- 38:48Speaker 1: long way probably to heal your relationship with these women.
- 38:52Speaker 2: But I guess not everyone is as emotionally involved as us.
- 38:55Speaker 1: Apparently not.
- 38:57Speaker 2: And then Janelle and Christina go line dancing, which was
- 39:00Speaker 2: fun or whatever. We should go line dancing.
- 39:03Speaker 1: I would love to.
- 39:03Speaker 2: We would be really good at it.
- 39:05Speaker 1: You know that my husband doesn't want to do it.
- 39:07Speaker 2: Well, you and I could.
- 39:07Speaker 1: Neither does your wife.
- 39:08Speaker 2: I know.
- 39:08Speaker 1: But they will sit there and drink.
- 39:10Speaker 3: They will.
- 39:11Speaker 1: While we line dance.
- 39:12Speaker 2: And we would be so good at it.
- 39:14Speaker 1: Oh, my God. I'd wear cowboy boots.
- 39:15Speaker 2: Me too.
- 39:15Speaker 1: I would look so cute.
- 39:17Speaker 2: Me too.
- 39:17Speaker 3: It would be fun.
- 39:18Speaker 2: It would be really fun.
- 39:18Speaker 1: I want to.
- 39:20Speaker 2: And then we have Janelle and Christine meeting up at
- 39:23Speaker 2: some clothing boutique store where Christine also gets her color analysis.
- 39:29Speaker 3: Done.
- 39:29Speaker 1: I can do one. I can do Janelle. I can
- 39:32Speaker 1: do Janelle's on an adventure. She's going to find a man.
- 39:35Speaker 1: I can't do two. I can't do them. We're doing
- 39:37Speaker 1: Christine because we have nothing else to film.
- 39:41Speaker 2: Pretty much. Well, nothing else that would be interesting.
- 39:44Speaker 1: That's not interesting.
- 39:45Speaker 2: It's not interesting at all. And like Christine says, the
- 39:47Speaker 2: same thing that Janelle did where she felt like she
- 39:49Speaker 2: was frumpy and now she's trying to wear things that
- 39:52Speaker 2: fit her figure and blah, blah, blah. And, you know,
- 39:56Speaker 2: I have sympathy for that.
- 39:57Speaker 1: I do as well.
- 39:58Speaker 2: That's great. And it'd be cool if we could expand
- 40:01Speaker 2: upon that aspect instead of just watching them go through
- 40:04Speaker 2: color palettes.
- 40:05Speaker 1: Yes.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Which, I mean, can be interesting, but it's like interesting
- 40:08Speaker 2: on a show like What Not to Wear or, you
- 40:10Speaker 2: know what I mean? Or Just Once.
- 40:11Speaker 1: Just Once. We don't need to see it in two different.
- 40:14Speaker 2: In two episodes.
- 40:15Speaker 1: Yes.
- 40:16Speaker 2: And then Christine also tells Janelle that she's going to
- 40:18Speaker 2: go talk to Mary and Christine's kind of giving me
- 40:21Speaker 2: bitchy vibes in this scene because she's like, I don't
- 40:24Speaker 2: know what to expect. Like I'm a little worried. And
- 40:26Speaker 2: like with Mary, you don't know what you're going to get.
- 40:28Speaker 2: And maybe this comes from her past trauma with Mary.
- 40:31Speaker 2: And I understand, but like Mary is trying to talk
- 40:34Speaker 2: to you in earnest. It seems like, so maybe just cool.
- 40:39Speaker 1: It out and be a little kind. Have an, open
- 40:42Speaker 1: heart and a smidge of curiosity. You guys are in
- 40:45Speaker 1: your fifties.
- 40:46Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 40:47Speaker 1: For me, I'm in my fifties. I've had relationships that
- 40:50Speaker 1: fell apart before. I've been very connected with people in
- 40:54Speaker 1: the past. I don't know where they are. If I
- 40:57Speaker 1: had the opportunity now to sit down and have tea
- 41:01Speaker 1: with somebody that maybe I had a falling out with
- 41:04Speaker 1: years ago, like I would be showing up with an openness. Also,
- 41:08Speaker 1: I would be willing to own my shit. I would
- 41:10Speaker 1: be coming to like take myself to task and to
- 41:13Speaker 1: put it all on the table and to be very real.
- 41:15Speaker 1: I wouldn't be going into the interaction already talking shit
- 41:20Speaker 1: and shitting all over Mary and how she doesn't feel
- 41:22Speaker 1: good about it. Does she want to do it?
- 41:24Speaker 2: No.
- 41:24Speaker 1: Then why are you doing it? Why are you putting
- 41:26Speaker 1: us through this when you don't even want to do it?
- 41:28Speaker 1: Like don't, and don't do that to Mary because she's
- 41:31Speaker 1: showing up and she's really going to try and it's
- 41:34Speaker 1: making you look like an asshole. And there's a lot
- 41:37Speaker 1: of people out there that never liked Christine, that could
- 41:41Speaker 1: kind of see through Christine from the very beginning, that
- 41:43Speaker 1: are standing up now, especially on Reddit, and saying, oh
- 41:46Speaker 1: my God, thank God you all are seeing the woman
- 41:50Speaker 1: that I've been seeing this entire time. She's mean. She's
- 41:53Speaker 1: a mean girl. She's bullying Mary. I don't know if
- 41:56Speaker 1: I agree with that. But a lot of people feel
- 41:58Speaker 1: that way. And I think that's why Christine ultimately had
- 42:00Speaker 1: to make a video on her Instagram because people were
- 42:03Speaker 1: coming for that ass Beatrice.
- 42:05Speaker 2: Well, cause I think she thought everybody would be on
- 42:06Speaker 2: her side and it's like, no, Christine, you're kind of
- 42:09Speaker 2: giving like high school, like mid twenties mentality, like very,
- 42:14Speaker 2: like almost underdeveloped in terms of.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Like your development.
- 42:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 42:18Speaker 2: Like in terms of your perspectives on other people and
- 42:20Speaker 2: like how you show up in your relationships versus how
- 42:23Speaker 2: they show up. It like, To me, I'm watching this
- 42:26Speaker 2: and I'm like, man, if I'm in my fifties acting
- 42:28Speaker 2: like that, just take me out. Yeah. Put me in
- 42:31Speaker 2: an assisted living or something. Cause I'm obviously like not
- 42:34Speaker 2: thinking clear. Cause I feel like at that age, some
- 42:37Speaker 2: things just don't matter as much anymore. And, and they
- 42:40Speaker 2: shouldn't matter as much anymore. Cause if you're like still
- 42:42Speaker 2: holding on to stuff like that, it's like, man.
- 42:46Speaker 1: But the reason it might matter is because Christine has
- 42:49Speaker 1: a vested interest in keeping the show going. in order
- 42:52Speaker 1: to keep the show going, she's going to have to
- 42:54Speaker 1: be in the same room for these contrived scenes with
- 42:58Speaker 1: both Janelle and Mary. And so she's going to need
- 43:00Speaker 1: to do something in order to facilitate that. But I
- 43:03Speaker 1: almost felt like Christine went into this conversation looking for
- 43:08Speaker 1: opportunities to assert her boundaries because boundaries are so important.
- 43:12Speaker 1: And I found my voice. So I feel like there's
- 43:15Speaker 1: a little bit of that. But then of course, once
- 43:17Speaker 1: she gets there, None of that comes out. Maybe it
- 43:20Speaker 1: will next week.
- 43:20Speaker 2: Maybe.
- 43:21Speaker 1: She doesn't really talk to her about boundaries. She talks instead,
- 43:25Speaker 1: like I said, about Cody and Robin, which is their
- 43:27Speaker 1: common ground. Are they ever going to get beyond that?
- 43:30Speaker 2: Probably not. Okay. Which is unfortunate to me, but we'll see.
- 43:33Speaker 2: Maybe they'll prove me wrong next week. We also have
- 43:36Speaker 2: Mary going on some speed dating event again, and it's
- 43:39Speaker 2: kind of a nothing burger.
- 43:40Speaker 1: Make it stop.
- 43:41Speaker 2: Like literally nothing happens here. I mean, I think she
- 43:43Speaker 2: gets some guy's number at the end, but we barely
- 43:46Speaker 2: see them interact and Mary again has to talk about
- 43:49Speaker 2: how her and Ron are just friends. And it kind
- 43:52Speaker 2: of feels like maybe Mary really wanted to be more
- 43:55Speaker 2: than friends with him. And he was like, I'm not
- 43:57Speaker 2: attracted to women. But it's just, I don't know. I mean,
- 44:01Speaker 2: I want to see more like one-on-one dates with Mary.
- 44:04Speaker 2: I don't want to see speed dating.
- 44:05Speaker 1: With someone who wants to be there.
- 44:07Speaker 2: Yes.
- 44:07Speaker 1: With someone who's actually legitimately interested in her.
- 44:09Speaker 2: Who's not a paid actor.
- 44:10Speaker 1: No, like maybe is actually falling for her. Like that
- 44:13Speaker 1: would be, we've never seen Mary... With somebody who actually
- 44:17Speaker 1: loves her.
- 44:17Speaker 2: Who's like swooning for her.
- 44:18Speaker 1: And wants to take care of her. Like that would
- 44:20Speaker 1: be amazing to see.
- 44:22Speaker 2: That would be great.
- 44:22Speaker 1: This is not it.
- 44:23Speaker 2: No, not at all. And then the last part of
- 44:27Speaker 2: the episode, which is like the last 10 minutes, which
- 44:29Speaker 2: is Mary and Christine meeting for tea. And they kind
- 44:33Speaker 2: of set it up like it's going to be this
- 44:34Speaker 2: big deal. And it's really, it doesn't start off any,
- 44:39Speaker 2: like in a bad way at all. I mean, we
- 44:41Speaker 2: do have like some commentary between or in Mary and
- 44:45Speaker 2: Christine's talking heads, Christine's like, I don't know what I'm
- 44:48Speaker 2: going to get. I'm a little nervous about it because
- 44:50Speaker 2: Mary can be kind of iffy sometimes. Whereas Mary's like
- 44:54Speaker 2: saying the complete opposite. She's like, I feel like with me,
- 44:56Speaker 2: you know what you're going to get. It'll be fine.
- 44:59Speaker 1: And she's also coming into the conversation wondering what Christine's
- 45:03Speaker 1: real problem is with her because Christina said something like, well,
- 45:06Speaker 1: she knows what she did. And Mary's like, actually, I don't.
- 45:09Speaker 1: I don't know what the literal grievances and so maybe
- 45:13Speaker 1: this is a great opportunity for you to tell me
- 45:15Speaker 1: do we think christine will i don't i don't think
- 45:17Speaker 1: christine knows.
- 45:19Speaker 2: And mary does say something interesting she says you know
- 45:22Speaker 2: her and christine never really got along janelle says the
- 45:25Speaker 2: same thing they just never have really been friends they've
- 45:27Speaker 2: just tolerated each other for the sake of the family
- 45:30Speaker 2: and mary says anytime she's had a conversation with christine
- 45:32Speaker 2: in the past it's always been a well i'm better
- 45:35Speaker 2: than you and you're worse than me and that's how
- 45:38Speaker 2: it's always been with them and i'm just like wondering
- 45:41Speaker 2: who was having the power struggle there because Mary strikes
- 45:45Speaker 2: me as somebody who's really dominant, but also Christine is
- 45:48Speaker 2: a bit domineering. And so I'm like, was Christine the
- 45:51Speaker 2: one coming in with that energy or was Mary coming
- 45:53Speaker 2: in with that energy?
- 45:54Speaker 1: I can see it more with Mary, but I really
- 45:56Speaker 1: don't know. I do notice though, that Mary says a
- 46:00Speaker 1: couple of times that she and Christine had a lot
- 46:03Speaker 1: of fun in the earlier years. And you can kind
- 46:05Speaker 1: of see a little bit of that spirit In the
- 46:08Speaker 1: earlier seasons, like when they're running and playing catch and
- 46:11Speaker 1: they're tackling each other and they do laugh together. So
- 46:14Speaker 1: you can see that they did vibe at one point
- 46:17Speaker 1: and Mary is just wondering, okay, so like what actually changed?
- 46:20Speaker 1: What's the problem? What did I do? And I think
- 46:22Speaker 1: according to Christine's book, it was the moment where Mary
- 46:26Speaker 1: yelled at McKelty for not having enough money or something
- 46:31Speaker 1: when she went to the store to buy candy.
- 46:33Speaker 2: Something like that, yeah.
- 46:34Speaker 1: I forget what the actual story is, but- Mary yelled
- 46:37Speaker 1: disproportionately at McKelty and that was Christine's final straw because
- 46:40Speaker 1: Mary had been yelling and screaming at these kids for
- 46:43Speaker 1: quite some time and Christine just was over it and
- 46:46Speaker 1: she wasn't going to expose her kids to Mary anymore.
- 46:49Speaker 2: Which is fair and valid, but it's like that was
- 46:51Speaker 2: so many years ago. Like people change and you should
- 46:54Speaker 2: be able to give people the opportunity to change and
- 46:58Speaker 2: it doesn't necessarily mean you have to like be friends
- 47:00Speaker 2: with them or like even really forgive them. But like,
- 47:03Speaker 2: I don't know. We're all on our own journey. We're
- 47:07Speaker 2: all on our own different path in life. And sometimes
- 47:10Speaker 2: it takes a little while for some people to learn lessons.
- 47:13Speaker 1: And you were in a cult.
- 47:14Speaker 2: Christine, you know that you were in a cult.
- 47:16Speaker 1: And you've subsequently left that cult. Mary was brought up
- 47:19Speaker 1: in the same cult, same as you. So can you
- 47:22Speaker 1: just dig deep and find some perspective and see how
- 47:25Speaker 1: maybe she acted out in these ways because she was
- 47:28Speaker 1: brought up and indoctrinated into a system that caused women
- 47:31Speaker 1: to be this way? Just like you were put in
- 47:33Speaker 1: the basement. mary was put into a specific role that
- 47:37Speaker 1: she didn't necessarily know how to fill and like that
- 47:41Speaker 1: should be a reason that you can make peace with somebody.
- 47:45Speaker 2: And just at least understand where they're coming from yes
- 47:47Speaker 2: and this is what i mean when i said earlier
- 47:49Speaker 2: that christine reacts and acts from her own yes perspective
- 47:54Speaker 2: on things i don't think she ever really thinks about
- 47:58Speaker 2: how other people might feel and i'm not saying that
- 48:01Speaker 2: like in a psychopathic way i just don't think she
- 48:03Speaker 2: thinks about it like from other people's perspective or thinks
- 48:06Speaker 2: about oh maybe they acted this way because of xyz
- 48:10Speaker 2: that happened to them like she doesn't really have that
- 48:12Speaker 2: capability and it's weird to me it's like in this
- 48:15Speaker 2: conversation with her and mary mary's the one that first
- 48:18Speaker 2: asks the question about christine setting that expectation from the
- 48:24Speaker 2: knife in the kidneys conversation about how she doesn't want
- 48:27Speaker 2: to have a relationship with anybody really. And that it's
- 48:30Speaker 2: only going to be her and Janelle. She doesn't really
- 48:32Speaker 2: care about the other two. And Mary's like, you know,
- 48:36Speaker 2: why did you say that? You know, you didn't really
- 48:38Speaker 2: give me an opportunity kind of thing. And Christine's like, well,
- 48:41Speaker 2: at the time of that conversation, I really needed to
- 48:44Speaker 2: set a firm boundary because I needed to figure out
- 48:48Speaker 2: who I am, what I am outside of this unit,
- 48:51Speaker 2: outside of this polygamy and everything. And to Mary's credit,
- 48:54Speaker 2: Mary understands that. Mary like doesn't even put up a fight.
- 48:57Speaker 2: Mary's like, okay, I get it. I didn't really think
- 49:00Speaker 2: about it from that, but I understand. And then we
- 49:03Speaker 2: have Christine saying, you know, because she had to set
- 49:07Speaker 2: that boundary, she had to figure out who she was
- 49:09Speaker 2: and if she mattered or how she mattered to other people,
- 49:13Speaker 2: because she never really felt like she mattered in her
- 49:16Speaker 2: relationship with Cody and in that family unit. And Mary says,
- 49:20Speaker 2: it's really sad that all of us felt that way
- 49:23Speaker 2: at some point in time in our lives and this
- 49:26Speaker 2: is where christine has that little moment of reflection where
- 49:28Speaker 2: she's like yeah i always felt that way i never
- 49:31Speaker 2: thought other people felt that way how.
- 49:35Speaker 1: And that's what that's what i'm like because later she
- 49:37Speaker 1: says you were treated so terribly That's literally the next thing.
- 49:41Speaker 1: She knows that Mary was estranged from Cody and treated
- 49:44Speaker 1: terribly by Cody and also Robin, but she never actually
- 49:48Speaker 1: cultivated the ability to feel for Mary.
- 49:50Speaker 2: Or anybody else.
- 49:51Speaker 1: Or anybody else.
- 49:52Speaker 2: Because she didn't even realize that Janelle would feel like
- 49:54Speaker 2: she wouldn't matter either. Like, this is what I'm saying.
- 49:58Speaker 2: Christine only thinks about herself, really. And then Christine asks
- 50:01Speaker 2: Mary when was the moment that she knew she was
- 50:05Speaker 2: ready to leave because she was curious about it because
- 50:07Speaker 2: for Christine, she says, it started in Vegas when she
- 50:10Speaker 2: started realizing that things were unfair. Mary is surprised by this,
- 50:14Speaker 2: which is kind of weird to me. Cause I'm like, Mary,
- 50:16Speaker 2: this is when you had your fucking affair.
- 50:18Speaker 1: Catfish. Hello?
- 50:20Speaker 2: Like you were obviously depressed, like, but maybe Mary was
- 50:24Speaker 2: too consumed by her lust for Sam slash whatever her
- 50:27Speaker 2: name was.
- 50:28Speaker 1: Jackie. Jackie. And her wet bar.
- 50:30Speaker 2: And her wet bar.
- 50:31Speaker 1: There's a lot going on, honey.
- 50:32Speaker 2: That she just wasn't thinking about it. And then Mary says,
- 50:35Speaker 2: which I thought was interesting. Um, She said she felt
- 50:38Speaker 2: like she always had hope that there would be a
- 50:41Speaker 2: new beginning because Cody always told her that there was
- 50:44Speaker 2: going to be a new beginning. But Mary does say
- 50:46Speaker 2: that she got to the point where she knew that
- 50:50Speaker 2: it wasn't going to work out, but she became stubborn.
- 50:54Speaker 2: because she knew that Cody was never actually going to
- 50:57Speaker 2: leave her because he didn't want to look like the villain.
- 51:01Speaker 2: He wanted to be innocent. And Mary, as a stubborn Capricorn,
- 51:05Speaker 2: was like, nah, I'm not going to let you have
- 51:06Speaker 2: that satisfaction where you're going to look like the innocent
- 51:10Speaker 2: party here. So I'm going to stay until you push
- 51:13Speaker 2: me away. So I kind of appreciated that little moment
- 51:16Speaker 2: of reflection because I think a lot of us, and
- 51:19Speaker 2: me too, I called Mary a little pathetic for how
- 51:21Speaker 2: much she simped for Cody. And how much she hoped
- 51:24Speaker 2: that things would get better between them because it was
- 51:26Speaker 2: very obvious to anybody with eyes that it was never
- 51:29Speaker 2: going to happen. But it sounds like Mary knew. But
- 51:33Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 51:33Speaker 1: Maybe she's just retconning it. I think she's covering a
- 51:36Speaker 1: little bit for how potentially desperate and pathetic she was.
- 51:40Speaker 1: But it's okay that she was that way. It's okay
- 51:43Speaker 1: that she truly wanted to somehow rekindle that relationship with
- 51:47Speaker 1: her husband. Like that's good. That's normal. Like we can
- 51:50Speaker 1: all understand that. That the fact that there might have
- 51:53Speaker 1: been a little bit of a motivation to kind of
- 51:55Speaker 1: stick it to him because he wanted to blame her
- 51:57Speaker 1: for their ultimate demise. Like I get that too, but
- 51:59Speaker 1: I think 90% of it was because Mary wanted to
- 52:03Speaker 1: find a way with Cody.
- 52:04Speaker 2: I think so too. Yeah. Ultimately. And then Christine... tells
- 52:08Speaker 2: mary that she was grossly mistreated and mary does thank
- 52:12Speaker 2: her for validating her experience in that way and i
- 52:14Speaker 2: thought that that was a really good moment and then
- 52:16Speaker 2: christine and her talking head says that mary and cody
- 52:20Speaker 2: especially in the beginning of their relationship were terrible to
- 52:23Speaker 2: each other and that they were equally yoked which i
- 52:27Speaker 2: can see that.
- 52:28Speaker 1: But that's also kind of mean to say why Because
- 52:32Speaker 1: she's still digging at Mary. She's still saying Mary was
- 52:35Speaker 1: a terrible person to Cody and Cody was terrible to her.
- 52:37Speaker 1: But like, it's just another opportunity that she's taking to
- 52:40Speaker 1: take a jab at Mary.
- 52:42Speaker 2: I guess I can see that.
- 52:43Speaker 1: That feels like to me.
- 52:44Speaker 2: But at the same time, like, I mean.
- 52:46Speaker 1: If it's true, it's true. It's true.
- 52:48Speaker 2: I mean, if Mary was terrible to Cody, like I
- 52:50Speaker 2: know we all hate Cody, but like maybe there was
- 52:52Speaker 2: a period in time where she was getting into him.
- 52:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 52:56Speaker 2: I don't know. We weren't there in the days of
- 52:58Speaker 2: the trailer. No, we were not there. And then Christine
- 53:01Speaker 2: also says after the legal divorce, that was when there
- 53:04Speaker 2: was a definite separation between Mary and Cody where there
- 53:09Speaker 2: was a complete shift in their marriage where they basically
- 53:12Speaker 2: weren't even really married to each other anymore. Mary tells
- 53:15Speaker 2: Christine that we all know Cody had one sole focus,
- 53:19Speaker 2: which was Robin. And this was interesting to me that
- 53:23Speaker 2: they don't really know when Cody and Robin actually met.
- 53:28Speaker 2: Because Mary says she always believed the story that they
- 53:32Speaker 2: met when they drove past like a neighbor's house or
- 53:35Speaker 2: something like that. But then Cody and Robin and they
- 53:38Speaker 2: show the flashback. when they were at Salsa Brava or whatever,
- 53:42Speaker 2: that Cody and Robin were talking about meeting at church.
- 53:45Speaker 2: So I thought that was actually really interesting that the
- 53:49Speaker 2: wives don't know the beginning of their relationship.
- 53:53Speaker 1: And this is where Christine says, I knew I was
- 53:56Speaker 1: being lied to. Like I could tell there was something
- 53:58Speaker 1: going on, but to learn how much I was manipulated
- 54:03Speaker 1: and lied to is really devastating. And I feel like
- 54:06Speaker 1: they're hinting here at, a bigger manipulation, like that Cody
- 54:11Speaker 1: and Robin met well in advance of bringing Mary into
- 54:15Speaker 1: it and making Mary believe that she was the one
- 54:16Speaker 1: who came up with the great idea to get them together,
- 54:19Speaker 1: that they had met, that they had talked and communicated.
- 54:22Speaker 1: Maybe they even dated a little bit and then they
- 54:25Speaker 1: brought her in.
- 54:26Speaker 2: Yes.
- 54:26Speaker 1: That's kind of what it felt like.
- 54:28Speaker 2: It feels like an affair. Yes, it does. And then
- 54:31Speaker 2: they kind of masked it. As polygamy and, oh, I'm
- 54:35Speaker 2: courting a fourth wife.
- 54:35Speaker 1: How convenient.
- 54:36Speaker 2: Yes. But it really does feel like an affair that,
- 54:40Speaker 2: I don't know. I just thought that was a really
- 54:43Speaker 2: interesting tidbit there.
- 54:44Speaker 1: And here again, I need more of that. I need
- 54:46Speaker 1: so much.
- 54:47Speaker 2: More of that. Yeah. And then the episode ends with
- 54:51Speaker 2: Christine saying, I hate how gullible I was and how
- 54:54Speaker 2: naive I was. And Mary says, we weren't gullible. We
- 54:57Speaker 2: believed in the family and we were committed to the
- 55:01Speaker 2: family that we created. And we were committed to the
- 55:04Speaker 2: idea that Cody loved us. And so I thought that
- 55:06Speaker 2: was kind of cool that Mary's like, no, no, no.
- 55:09Speaker 2: Like don't dog on yourself too much. Like we all
- 55:12Speaker 2: were sold a vision of, And a dream. And it
- 55:16Speaker 2: turned out to be shit. And then we have the
- 55:19Speaker 2: preview for next week where we have Mary telling Christine
- 55:22Speaker 2: that she owes her a big apology because she felt
- 55:25Speaker 2: like she was a big jerk. And it's specifically about
- 55:28Speaker 2: the knife in the kidneys conversation where Mary just sat
- 55:30Speaker 2: there and didn't do anything. Christine tells Mary in the preview,
- 55:34Speaker 2: I understood why you didn't say anything because you still
- 55:36Speaker 2: had hope. And then we have Christine, Mary, and Janelle
- 55:40Speaker 2: meeting up to melt down their rings, which I... I'm
- 55:43Speaker 2: kind of looking forward to that. Sure. Not going to lie.
- 55:46Speaker 2: Hopefully they'll talk some shit while they're doing that.
- 55:48Speaker 1: Yes.
- 55:48Speaker 2: But we'll see. Yeah.
- 55:51Speaker 1: So overall, I say again, I mean, I'm kind of
- 55:54Speaker 1: enjoying this. I think that the good stuff is being
- 55:57Speaker 1: reserved for the final 15 minutes of the episode. But
- 56:01Speaker 1: the other stuff leading up to it, I think, is
- 56:05Speaker 1: entertaining enough to keep me on the hook. I am
- 56:07Speaker 1: enjoying this.
- 56:08Speaker 2: Yeah, and I will maintain my perspective from earlier. I
- 56:11Speaker 2: really like seeing them all together or like seeing one
- 56:13Speaker 2: of the wives hanging out with the other. I'm not
- 56:16Speaker 2: a fan of watching their separate lives because if all
- 56:19Speaker 2: I'm going to get is like color palettes and line
- 56:21Speaker 2: dancing and sex games, I'm bored.
- 56:24Speaker 1: Well, we're about to meet Pete.
- 56:26Speaker 2: Which I'm excited about.
- 56:27Speaker 1: Yeah. I'm excited to see Janelle go on her romantic
- 56:31Speaker 1: journey with a new person.
- 56:32Speaker 2: I know me.
- 56:33Speaker 1: Why did you fall in love with this person? What's
- 56:35Speaker 1: so great about Pete? I want to learn about him.
- 56:37Speaker 1: And I am also interested to see Mary go to
- 56:42Speaker 1: different cities and check them out. I wonder if she's
- 56:44Speaker 1: going to go see Leon and go to Denver.
- 56:47Speaker 2: That'd be nice.
- 56:48Speaker 1: See if she likes Colorado. And maybe she goes to Chicago.
- 56:51Speaker 1: Maybe she goes down south.
- 56:52Speaker 3: Who knows?
- 56:52Speaker 1: Maybe she comes to North Texas.
- 56:54Speaker 2: Oh my God. By us.
- 56:55Speaker 1: And we could make friends with Mary.
- 56:57Speaker 2: That would be great.
- 56:58Speaker 1: I would love to see a little bit of that.
- 56:59Speaker 1: And then with Christine and David, here's where it ends
- 57:03Speaker 1: for me because I don't know where these two go.
- 57:06Speaker 1: I don't think they're interesting at all. We're kind of
- 57:10Speaker 1: played out already about your great love story. We've seen
- 57:14Speaker 1: the wedding special. We saw the run-up to the wedding.
- 57:18Speaker 1: I'm bored. I don't know what else Christine can bring
- 57:22Speaker 1: to the show that That keeps me as interested in
- 57:24Speaker 1: what's going on with Janelle and Mary. Yeah.
- 57:28Speaker 2: I think the problem is David, honestly, because he's annoying.
- 57:31Speaker 1: He is annoying.
- 57:32Speaker 2: And so I really hope that Pete, Janelle's man, is
- 57:35Speaker 2: going to be like a more likable person.
- 57:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 57:40Speaker 2: Because I think David is just not really likable personally.
- 57:43Speaker 2: I just, I'm not a fan. Yeah.
- 57:46Speaker 3: There's just, you know what?
- 57:48Speaker 1: Watching that Instagram video, live that they did he just
- 57:52Speaker 1: kept and we're gonna again cover this on patreon so
- 57:55Speaker 1: i'm not gonna talk too much about it but he
- 57:57Speaker 1: just kept interrupting her and talking over her and she
- 58:03Speaker 1: was kind of trying to explain why she was so
- 58:06Speaker 1: triggered i wonder what she would have said in the
- 58:08Speaker 1: energy of that if she had had the space to
- 58:10Speaker 1: actually communicate but he kept like stepping on her toes
- 58:14Speaker 1: i'm like dude shut up You're mansplaining Christine's feelings about
- 58:17Speaker 1: her own life in this moment. We don't need this
- 58:20Speaker 1: interpretation from you. You're like the Christine whisperer. Like Robin
- 58:24Speaker 1: is the Cody whisperer. Like we don't need the second party.
- 58:27Speaker 1: Like let the woman talk. My God. Plus whenever you talk,
- 58:31Speaker 1: you're dumb as fuck. Shut up. Like it's word salad.
- 58:35Speaker 2: It is.
- 58:35Speaker 1: People are not succinct people. They can't just communicate and
- 58:38Speaker 1: say how they feel. They've got to dance around it.
- 58:40Speaker 1: And I'm sick of it. I'm just ready for him
- 58:42Speaker 1: to go.
- 58:43Speaker 2: Like I'm over him. That's my thing.
- 58:44Speaker 1: So I don't know what they can do, Christine and David,
- 58:46Speaker 1: to make the show more interesting.
- 58:48Speaker 2: I think they're trying to.
- 58:49Speaker 1: Besides divorce.
- 58:51Speaker 2: Sorry. Dang. That's horrible.
- 58:53Speaker 3: I don't, I'm not speaking that into existence. I'm just saying.
- 58:57Speaker 1: Like maybe have marriage problems or something. Like how can
- 58:59Speaker 1: they not though? You guys know, but how can you
- 59:02Speaker 1: not have marriage issues because she married him in like
- 59:06Speaker 1: three or six months or whatever it was and this
- 59:10Speaker 1: man brings a lot of baggage and trauma into this relationship.
- 59:14Speaker 1: Christine has huge amounts of baggage and trauma. You cannot
- 59:18Speaker 1: tell me that this is not showing up in their
- 59:21Speaker 1: relationship in a day-to-day way. Like if we were to
- 59:24Speaker 1: get glimpses of their real struggle, As opposed to this
- 59:29Speaker 1: scripted bullshit that we're getting currently.
- 59:30Speaker 3: I think that would.
- 59:32Speaker 1: Be interesting to see how Christine really does deconstruct. from
- 59:37Speaker 1: her religion, from her mindset of polygamy, because like all
- 59:40Speaker 1: we really got was a tattoo on your titty, honey,
- 59:43Speaker 1: to be the emblem of your deconstruction. But we never
- 59:46Speaker 1: really had the conversation about that. And you just married
- 59:49Speaker 1: this guy and now we're supposed to believe you're perfectly happy.
- 59:53Speaker 1: I don't think you are.
- 59:53Speaker 2: No, not at all.
- 59:55Speaker 1: And if you could bring some of that to the table,
- 59:57Speaker 1: I think it would be interesting.
- 59:58Speaker 2: Yeah, but they're not going to because, of course, they
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: don't want their real struggles on TV. They want what
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: they want on TV. So they're going to manufacture drama.
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: I think that's what Christine and David are trying to do.
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: And that's why they're annoying to me because it's like
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: you have enough real drama that you could give us,
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: but you don't want to because you want to have
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: your manufactured crap to keep us on the hook. But
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: I can see that.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: We all can see i can see it's like it's
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: like this puppeteering that they're doing this manufactured reality but
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: it's by it's being generated by dumb people but if
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: you're if you're not dumb like i believe a lot
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: of us i feel like we're really smart that's why
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: we're in the dumpster together i feel like we're not
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: dumb and we've been watching fixated on this family for
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: so long like we know the lore like you can't
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: pull the wool over our eyes so easily you gotta
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: tell the truth and honestly i If you want this
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: show to keep going, and I feel like a couple
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: of these women really want it to keep going, you should.
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: Pull the cover back, honey. Pull the curtain back and
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: tell the truth.
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: Be authentic.
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: Otherwise, peace out after season 21.
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: Facts.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: Well, that's all I got. I ain't got nothing more.
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: Me neither.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: So Beatrice, is there anything else that we need to
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: say to these beautiful raccoons before we get up on
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: out of here?
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: Well, if you love our podcast, please do us a solid.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: Go to your favorite podcast platform and leave us a
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: glowing five-star review.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: Five!
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: Really helps us grow the pod so more people can
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: join us in the dumpster. We would really appreciate it.
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: So thank you very much.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: We're going to be back later this week because we
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: had quite a few of you call into the SpeakPipe, speakpipe.com
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: slash realitytvcringe. to give us your opinions on the show.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: And so we want to hear them and we want
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: to talk about them. And then, of course, we'll be
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: back next week to continue our recaps of Sister Wives.
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: Until then, please do not forget that we truly have
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: nothing but love for you. And peace out.
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: Bye.
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: Bye, guys.
