Transcript
- 0:03[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, hello, hello and welcome to another edition of the nine or nois podcast part of the fan-sided podcast network.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_00]: My name is Robert Morrison, a contributor over at nine or nois.com and here with me as we get into week number two, fellow contributor, Mr. Oksha's divadula, Oksha's we made it through the first week and now it's on to week number two.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_01]: very exciting Robert, only two severe injuries to speak of, so for the 49ers, we're doing better than we usually do to start off the season.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_00]: Well, the bar is not not high, man.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's not.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_00]: Good as well.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_00]: I guess we'll just go we talked about this a little bit in the in the post match post game Sorry post game episode just a couple of days ago But now we have more information on both John Stribling and Jake Tondis Stribling turned out they did some more Tess and it I've heard the word burst
- 1:11[SPEAKER_00]: in compared let's just and sound good like uh so the deltoid wasn't sprained apparently it was ruptured i think was burst something that happened to it uh and it was not it was not intact enough to the point where they thought that rehab was going to get the job done and so he had surgery just a couple days ago um i think
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: ten weeks is the number that they're saying.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: I imagine that's like ten weeks for recovery and getting back up to speed and like within ten weeks he'll be close.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: Like not like ten weeks until he's ready to try and see if he's good to go kind of thing.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: But like that's the the kind of thought process in terms of like Wayne will have he
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: Sort of back in like okay, he's ready to be back in the mix a little bit.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: At least that's maybe that's wishful thinking of my part But that's kind of the way I looked at it.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you're getting the same vibe.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: That sounds right to me.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_01]: I mean It wouldn't make sense to say we expect him back in 10 weeks and then he doesn't play and it that actually was like 14 weeks Yeah, that'd be a lot this big difference.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: I so I agree with you that I do think
- 2:20[SPEAKER_01]: I'm expecting him to be back like 10 to 12 weeks.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully, I mean, you know, and just cross there's no complications in his surgery and his work.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, given, so it's probably what, like maybe a month, I mean, we're not doctors.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_00]: We're just speculating here.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like maybe a month before he's back on his feet, and then he's got a,
- 2:40[SPEAKER_00]: You know, learn to walk again a little bit and all that stuff.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_00]: So I imagine that will be a slow process.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: And like we said, I mean, even though he had the surgery instead of the rehab, I think the things that we were saying before about like, don't rush him back, like, let him let him get back to full strength so that he's ready to go.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: even if it takes till I mean because that's okay so that's like two and a half months from now so we're talking the the very very stretched run of the season maybe the last couple of games and you hope that you're in the playoff mix and there and then you hope that you can get him for a couple of games and then get him ready for the for the playoffs and maybe he can contribute as like a fresh healthy player yeah I mean treat him like a trade deadline acquisition that's the way to do this I think
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: As you said, so stupidly, when we were talking about this in the post game recap earlier this week, right, this is a player for your future.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: This is not just one year thing, so it's important that the team sort of keeps the long term in mind, and I think they're doing that with this.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_00]: And then with with Jake Tondis, it's an MCL surgery he's out for the season.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_00]: That's just really unfortunate.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, all the things and we sort of anticipate this was going to be the outcome, I think, last episode.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_00]: and this is just like confirmation that the surgery is going to happen.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_00]: He's got a long rehab ahead of him.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: Good news for Tondis as we mentioned last time is he signed a two year deal over the off season.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: So he's guaranteed, well not guaranteed.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's a small money deal.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know that he's guaranteed to return.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_00]: But he does know where he's likely to be.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: Next season, once his rehab is complete, so that will be nice for him.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: I think on that level, it's obviously bad for this this for an anniversary this year because they're not going to have
- 4:30[SPEAKER_00]: a guy who proved himself to be very useful last year.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: That's definitely, I mean, you know, we don't need to rehash all the things we talked about last week when I think we were both expecting that it's gonna be a season under and yeah, it's a brutal injury, it's a real unfortunate break for Tom just and for the 49ers.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, he'll be around in the off season to rehab and hopefully he can come back and make the impact he made last year next year.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for sure.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_00]: Um, the other than that, I think the teams in pretty good shape heading into the, um, into this game.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: We haven't said, this is my fault.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just not apparently have been doing this for all these years.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: And I still don't know how to do this.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: Um, before an honors, of course, are playing the Dolphins on Sunday for week two.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, they start a string of three straight home games, which is really nice after that long trip to Australia.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: they do not have to leave Santa Clara and I think it's because it's just like Denver Seattle on the road at no Denver's at home right and then Seattle on the road after that so they don't have to leave the west coast.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: for quite a while after that either so it's not like they're immediately going to go into a situation where they where they're going to have to be on a long on another long trip.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_00]: That of course will come later where they'll have those long trips but it's Miami and it's Arizona next week.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's Denver at home and it's at Seattle and it's home again for Monday night and for week six and then they have
- 6:07[SPEAKER_00]: and then they go to Atlanta and then the by week.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_00]: And so I would say this is again, there's a couple of and we'll get into this for two weeks, but this is a pretty good start to the season for the 49ers, especially considering the fact that they got that week one win, that I don't think that many people were expecting.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: that's definitely true.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know, they'll ease in, travel wise, they're kind of protected and safe.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, the schedule makers gave them sort of a break in terms of like, okay, now that you had this huge like outweigh to go to Australia, you can sort of work your way back in travel wise.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: It'll be very important because I know this like playing the dolphins and then I think.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna Arizona next week, yep.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: So in theory, these are two of the easier games on the schedule, so that should be a comfortable sort of cushion.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, you never know, we'll get into that later.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know, it's not the easiest schedule after that, but mitigating travel, I think, helps the team be at their at their best, which is going to be important because, you know, the reports coming out of, you know, post Australia's that it took the team a bit to get their legs back under them.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: And so.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_01]: I like, I would be shocked if there are no downstream impacts of that for Sunday and a little bit later.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: So as much as you can keep the routine going, that'll probably be good for the 49ers.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: Speaking of those kinds of things.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: So we have, we're recording on Thursday and the lead up to the game.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's a little earlier than we would normally like to because it doesn't give us like a full sense of what the, sorry, the injury situation is kind of look like.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_00]: But there's quite a few names on this list.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: None of them really like made me terribly
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: concerned.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_00]: So we got the likes of Nick Bosa and Drake Greenlaw and George Kittle and that was the main.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, he does on strippling on the list and Key on White is our list on there as either as didn't practice on Wednesday and we're limited this week.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: Or on Thursday, a lot of that is just, you know, those are players that are coming back by and large from some kind of injury last season with Bosen Greenlaw and with with Kittle and obviously Kian White's coming off that, um, that gun, uh,
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: shooting the shooting accident and Trent Williams never participates.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't practice on Wednesday at all because he's a veteran doesn't really have to.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_00]: So none of those names really terribly concerning.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: The other names that are on here from Thursday, K-On Black was K-Lon Black.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, I can't read today.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_00]: It was added to the with a limited participant from Thursday's practice with a groin injury.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: for both days with a finger injury.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_00]: You can imagine that's going to be a problem.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: I mentioned Kittle, McAfrey didn't participate on Wednesday, but it was full participant on Thursday.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: Eddie Panieros, apparently dealing with an illness, but I imagine he'll probably get to go provided.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a long-term thing, and then that's about it.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: A couple of other names on there, Khalid Karim, had a shoulder thing that was limited among Wednesday,
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: Thursday and up in Stout, apparently dealing with some sort of Achilles issue, but has been a full participant in practice on those issues there.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: So, I'll also flag that Stout, I think, had this same designation last week.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: Just might be like recurring thing for him.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: yeah for sure um so again there's there's a lot of names on here and I don't know like to what level the 49ers are more honest about this than other teams are uh but and I don't know and so I'm not accusing anybody of anything but it just it just seems like although there are a lot of names on here nothing really like makes me nervous so uh especially
- 10:33[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to agree with that.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's hard for us to know like at this point in time, who's like who's going to be available and who's not nothing particularly like new and concerning.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think that's the that's the main takeaway.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's probably like,
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: bits and bruises from week one.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm like, I'm not hearing anyone that's not going to play because of these injuries correct, which is what really matters at the end of the day right.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_00]: Nothing from the Dolphins from Thursday that I can see hold on them, which is verify.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, here we go.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_00]: So their injury reports Ronnie Harrison linebacker has not tried to see at this week for the hamstring injury.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: Chop Robinson, their Eddresher, is a still working to the concussion protocol, Tucker adding to their long snapper is dealing with a shoulder injury.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_00]: That's not good.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_00]: He's been limited.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: Tight ends, sedu, triore, thumb, and Achilles.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_00]: So he's got it on both the top end, the bottom side.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's been limited.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_00]: Dante, Trader, Jr., the safety, also dealing with the hamstring, but he's a full participant.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_00]: And then, Millik Willis, their quarterback, is got a toe, but he's been a full go.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_00]: So far, in practice this week.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_00]: Again,
- 11:59[SPEAKER_00]: I'll be frank, the members of the Miami Dolphins football team are, I'm kind of learning about them as we go, and so a couple of those names stand out to me, but again, they seem to be relatively healthy coming into this game.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that's, I mean, again, I don't think there's really, especially the names
- 12:26[SPEAKER_01]: popping up for us like so in the so far as the names that like we're going to talk about that can do real damage to this team.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_01]: None of those guys are really on the list.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: So that sort of for the 49ers obviously the dolphins losing death they're just going to be a little difficult, but um they're like big guns or don't quote earn yes immediately ready to go.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, bro, it's what we're speaking one thing that I noticed I was looking through is just an aside as it was like through the Dolphins roster today So former 49ers Ed Dressher Robert Beal You may remember him.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_00]: He was a guy that we thought we kept thinking was gonna be an impact guy and never was He is with the Dolphins now, but he's just robbed now
- 13:09[SPEAKER_00]: Rob Beal Jr.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: So, there you go.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but again, as far as week two goes, you would I have seen worse.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_01]: That's very true.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_00]: uh... we have had versions of this of this four dinners team that have been that that we get to week time in the last year right we're like oh brought parties already hurt cool uh... so yeah it could be worse uh... so i feel i feel pretty good about where the team is setting into week two and as we talked about
- 13:44[SPEAKER_00]: Um, it feels like a little bit of a softer landing and hopefully they've had enough time to get reaclimated, um, it's not quite the nice, uh, the Rams who get to play on Monday night this week.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so not only did they do whatever they wanted with the travel, but they also got an extra day rest.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but it's fine.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and they're playing team who I can't recall.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_00]: I want to say it's like the jet or the giants or something like that.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_00]: shouldn't know that.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe they got a little bit of a tougher game and exchange for the Monday night slot.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: So let's go ahead and talk a little bit more about this matchup and how we think things are going to go.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_00]: Again, for those of you who are with us for the first time, if you are welcome, where have you been?
- 14:34[SPEAKER_00]: We've been doing this for a long time.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_00]: The way that we handle the previous for these games is very similar to the wrap-up contest,
- 14:44[SPEAKER_00]: You
- 14:46[SPEAKER_00]: where we talk about reasons that we are optimistic that the 49ers are going to win.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_00]: And then we talk about reasons that we are concerned that the 49ers might, in fact, lose.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_00]: Again, sometimes these can get a little bit dizzy depending on how we are feeling about this particular contest.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_00]: And then at the end, we'll predict how we think the game is going to go.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: So because I am such a nice guy, I always see to my co-hosts as a beginning.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_00]: So OX has, we'll kick it over to you for your reasons
- 15:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Robert.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, you know, one of the jokes that we have on this podcast is when the 49ers are heavy favorites against a team, I will often say as my reason for optimism that they're just a better football team.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'm trying to not lean on that.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_00]: Hard hitting analysis here.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_01]: But you know, I'm not going to lie.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: There's going to be a little bit of that here, namely because the dolphins are in like the throes of a rebuild right now.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_01]: But in particular, I'm just going to highlight their defense.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_01]: I think their defense is sort of outside of Jordan Brooks, who's an all-pro tackling machine.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_01]: Not.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_01]: you know, not like Fred Warren coverage, but still a very solid player.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, their defense is not replied with stars.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's obviously like a work in like unit, but I mean, you can just turn to last week where the Raiders like gash them, Ashen Gentie had, I think 140 something yards and two total touchdowns, Kirk cousins was throwing all over the field against them.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_01]: That, to me, screams like a huge mismatch, especially when you turn and you see the 49ers coming a week off, putting 27 up against the quote unquote like best defense ever constructed or something in LA.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yep, ever.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, there's a lot of talent before the 49ers have that they can work with here when it comes to offense.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_01]: And I really think the running game is gonna be huge area of success, right?
- 16:47[SPEAKER_01]: The dolphins allowed.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_01]: 130 Russian yards last week.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_01]: That's a lot of Russian yards.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the 49ers can be really disciplined and dictate the game on the ground.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_01]: We'll get to sort of like even defensively.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_01]: They match up fairly well, but there's probably some areas for concern.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_01]: There's we'll get into.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_01]: But really, I mean, it's just like offensively.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think they just have the weapons.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_01]: right they're going to like it'll be a long day for the dolphins if the 49ers execute and i just there's no one on the dolphins defense that i think you point to as being like someone who you think can't stop like the 49ers offense in the same way like last week we talked about how like you know miles Garrett is like a guy who can like end a game you know or even like really cohesive units like Minnesota's defensive unit right
- 17:44[SPEAKER_01]: The dolphins aren't there yet right now.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that just gives the 49ers a huge advantage in this game.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think that's that's that's true for sure.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_00]: I'll talk about a couple of those other numbers as well.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_00]: This is also just like a really
- 18:03[SPEAKER_00]: just like a very young inexperienced team.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_00]: There's this, this stat from Josh Dubo, the Associated Press from the other day, said the dolphins had 436 naps played by rookies in week one.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_00]: the most for any team in week one as far as snapped at a at sport radar goes back to 2006.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_00]: So this is just like I mean and in some some cases that's like this is what that's what you want out of a team like this that's just young and
- 18:34[SPEAKER_00]: just frankly they're not going to compete for anything and if you're if you're rebuilding you want those the young Brookies out there and just playing like if there's no point in not playing them like running out a group of of veterans out there just to run a group of veterans out there just doesn't make any sense and so I think all the things that you're saying is are completely accurate I also saw something like
- 19:00[SPEAKER_00]: like the number of probals on this four in honors team for I don't know if you've seen this, like the probals for the four in honors team collectively versus against the dolphin, it's like 75 to 1 or something like that.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's not good.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, there's just this is little, there's there's things here that are just going to make you go, okay, well, they're just, they just don't have
- 19:23[SPEAKER_00]: have what they need to do.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_00]: And it looks like it's a both sides of the ball kind of thing.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_00]: Just some statistical analysis from last week's loss to the Raiders.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_00]: They made it just 250 yards of total offense, which is 26 in the NFL for from week one, just 74 yards on the grounds, which is 27th in the league.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_00]: 19th in the league with 185 passing yards, but only scored 13 points, gave up allowed five sacks on the on the day, which is kind of a good news for a foreign honors team that still doesn't that didn't collect one in week one despite having some pretty good pressure, just 20 complete of just 20% of their third downs.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, so it just wasn't it wasn't great and you know all the more because the raiders are like not a great team either.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're going to be fine and but they're in their in a tough division.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_00]: But man, it's just they're they're just they're in the rebuild.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_00]: There's too much going on at this point.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_00]: It just feels like the gap between these two teams is so wide.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_00]: You just don't see a way.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_00]: Um, that, like, there isn't an obvious like, okay, here's something that the dolphins can kind of scratch and claw their way to get done.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I think I heard Matt Meoko with was, was saying the other day that he thinks they could play like a, like a sea, a sea minus game and still win this game.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know about that.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_00]: He actually was like, even going further with him, he was like, well, maybe like a D plus game, I'm like, okay, I'm like, they're not that bad, but like, you need to play competently.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_00]: And that's kind of where, like, I'm on the level of like, if you play, if the 49ers play a competent game, they'll win it, it might not be super comfortable if they do it that way, but if they play like they did last week against the Rams, like they're gonna blow the dolphins out of the water, no pun intended.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I agree with all of that right like it's a mismatch.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_01]: I think everyone knows it's a mismatch, you know, like we're not we're not seeing anything particularly novel inside that and I think it makes the analysis harder because like in the one week we saw the 49ers went toe to toe with a great team and kind of outclass them and the dolphins got like run out of the building.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_01]: And like, but in the dolphins didn't look particularly different than what anyone expected, just part of maybe the bigger issue, point, just like to flag that, um, they're just not a very talented team right now.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_01]: However, they have one thing that I'm actually very concerned about.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_01]: So and this is going to our reason for concern,
- 22:22[SPEAKER_01]: One word, speed.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_01]: I asked, they have, so Devon HN, right?
- 22:28[SPEAKER_01]: One of the best running backs in the NFL, he is a threat to score touchdown anytime he touches the ball with his speed, right?
- 22:35[SPEAKER_01]: He's a great, like runner, and he's electric.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_01]: And Malik Willis, they're starting quarterback right, is getting it finally a chance to be the full-time starter for an organization.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_01]: He is maybe going to be one of the most athletic quarterbacks, not the most athletic quarterback, the 49ers face this season.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_01]: And like that is an Achilles Hill of this defense full stop.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: They weren't very good against the run last week.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_01]: We flag that in our post game recap.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_01]: That is a place where the dolphins could potentially exploit the 49ers defense.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_01]: I mean,
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: I can imagine a world where the dolphins run like read option, speed option, like an option offense and just embarrass the 49ers on defense.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_01]: Well, they went off that, I don't know, but like that could like I just like the team has to have discipline and playing contain being on top of sort of like,
- 23:34[SPEAKER_01]: you know, not letting a chant get out in space.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: And like having the speed to sort of match, obviously no one on the 49ers is as fast as a chant on defense.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_01]: But this is why like players like Jayne and Doug are gonna be playing right is because they have that athleticism and that speed to sort of add that juice to this defense.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_01]: And that to me is like the real concern here, right?
- 23:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like, do I think the 49ers are gonna lose this game?
- 24:01[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: Do I think it's going to be close, not particularly, but I don't think it's going to be a defensive masterclass and I really think it's going to be because the like the dolphins just run the ball
- 24:25[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe like a mess up on special teams, that's an easy recipe for the dolphins to stay in the game.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_01]: So that is really concerning me here, is are the four monitors going to be able to handle a more mobile offense than the one they faced with Los Angeles?
- 24:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I think that's fair.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, in the other end of that is you look at their past catching group for the dolphins.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's not, not striking any fear into the hearts of anybody, it is, there's one, two, three, they have three rookies, four rookies in the past catch and group, including tight-end Sidutri, who I mentioned before, Chris Bell from Adaloo, Avill, Kevin Coleman, Jr. Adam Azuri, and then Texas Tech, rookie Caleb Douglass, and then three
- 25:16[SPEAKER_00]: you know, reason of veterans who've been around for less than five years in Ryan Miller, Jalen Tolbert and Malik Washington.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_00]: They also have other titans who will camp Cameron, camp cast Samick.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_00]: There we go.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_00]: Justin Jolly and Greg Dolrich.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_00]: What I mean to say is that they're just going to have to run the ball.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_00]: Like that's their
- 25:39[SPEAKER_00]: And they have to know that, right?
- 25:41[SPEAKER_00]: Like the strength of their team, if they have one is in running the football, granted the Raiders did a pretty good job of shutting that down.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_00]: Last week, some of it could have been game state as well, like kind of forced them into throwing the ball.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_00]: And ultimately, I think that's what the four in the enter is gonna have to do because I agree with you.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_00]: Like, if the dolphins have an idea about staying in this game, it's gonna be like, get the ball, control the ball, not even like,
- 26:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not even sure that like scoring fast is to their benefit, you know, like they're going to be a ground control game, which I'm not sure that they have that in their locker, but it is like to me the one thing that they might be able to do a little bit, that would concern you.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_00]: And then the other thing of course is as we were talking about before we started,
- 26:31[SPEAKER_00]: It's like the fear of the trap game against a team like this where the where everybody's pretty sure that you're going to like annihilate them and so there's always that concern there and then as we as you talked about before like the residual wear and tear from the Australia flight and it's is that going to impact their ability to The 49ers ability to to do everything they should do against this dolphin team
- 26:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, those are definitely real concerns.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_01]: You said before we started recording, so I want to like, I thought it was a good point.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_01]: Like you'd hope, starting to season off, there's no such things of trap game, but the Australia game felt very emotional in a way.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 27:15[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's a huge investment to go there.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_01]: You're spending the entire time being told that this other team is like the best.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_01]: And then you come out and you kind of like beat the brakes off them.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_01]: You fly back.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_01]: So you have a long flight to sort of celebrate.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_01]: I certainly imagine there's going to be a bit of a let down for the team, right.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think they're going to come out with the same juice that you'd expect them to come out within a home opener.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully I'm wrong.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_01]: But.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_01]: You know, what you don't want is you don't want to get dug into a hole against the dolphins because even though you have the talent to come back, it's a little concerning because then, you know, game script allows the dolphins to sort of run the ball.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_01]: And I think you all, the other concern is that you just keep a close.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone is like, if you're in the NFL, you're a phenomenal player, right?
- 28:02[SPEAKER_01]: You're like a top 10 per, like 1.001% football player.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like if it's close, any team can win a football game.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_01]: And I think,
- 28:13[SPEAKER_01]: We've seen the story where the 49ers don't play well in a, they let teams stay in the, like, stay in a game and then it comes back and bites them at the end.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_01]: So trying to avoid that sort of issue.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, um, again, yeah, I think that's all right.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and as I was saying to you before we started recording, like, you hope that the trap game is more of a later in the season thing.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_00]: Once you kind of
- 28:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, I'm right there with you, and we can use this to kind of transition into our predictions for the game.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_00]: I don't anticipate that this is going to be very close, because I think the 49ers, I think there's going to be a recognition that if they can hit, if they can hit them hard, really early in the game and get up to a and get and build a lead.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_00]: that that's just going to play right into their hands.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_00]: And then, and then eventually, they're just going to be able to build an even bigger lead.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that seems to be the right way to handle this.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_00]: It's just like, try to see if you can wear them out early by just kind of wearing them down and kind of for lack of a better term, like, taking the wheel out of them early in the game.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_00]: That would be the approach if it were me.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, that sounds pretty awesome.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'd love if they did that.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll have to see, but that would be great.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_01]: That, I mean, yeah.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_00]: You're in favor.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_01]: I will never be opposed to taking the will of the other football team away.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_00]: Breaking news.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_00]: Team once fans of team want the team to play well.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_00]: All right, Oshaz, what do we think about the outcome of this game?
- 29:54[SPEAKER_00]: I have a my number.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_00]: set.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_00]: So how do you think it's going to go?
- 29:59[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that, like, I think the 49ers are going to put up a lot of points and I'm sort of waffling on where I think the dolphins are going to end up.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to go.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_01]: 45, 24.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, wow.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_01]: I think the Niners are going to like crush it on the scoreboard offensively, but I'm expecting there to be a little more like fits and starts with the defense.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, more touchdowns than you would like a couple big explosives that you want to have back, but ultimately, for the 49ers.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_00]: I don't like that as much.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_00]: The wind is good, but that's good.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_00]: It makes me feel a little queasy inside.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's still covering 12.5 point favorites, so that's still pretty good.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_00]: I went not as high offensively, but way lower on the other side.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_00]: I said 42 to 10.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I just, you mentioned something about, like, are they going to have the juice?
- 30:59[SPEAKER_00]: Are they going to have like the juice for this one because of how, like,
- 31:04[SPEAKER_00]: much the how big the the season opener was I kind of feel like the home opener will be good enough of enough of a of a push for like hey I'm just thinking about like a guy like Fred Warner who has not played in front of this this crowd and a long time and Jerry Greenlaw who missed a full season and Nick Bosa who missed a lot of the season last year and even like
- 31:27[SPEAKER_00]: you know, new guy like Mike Evans who is not getting gotten to experience this both the Levi's crowd from from the home side.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know, I just feel like there's going to be enough of that to kind of push the guys who might be otherwise like, yeah, you know, it's just another home opener over the edge and be like, okay, hey, guys, we got to get this job done.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to I'm going big.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it's going to be
- 31:52[SPEAKER_00]: Just just beautiful.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I mean, if this, like, nothing would be more deflating than Monday morning quarterback and quarterbacking a loss to the dolphins.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, all the stuff we were talking about about this team, like, show yourself as a contender.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_01]: All that's like,
- 32:16[SPEAKER_01]: out the window.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I mean, obviously, this is the right way.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to, it would be the, the, the real Yin Yin and Yang of this beginning of the NFL season for sure.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, not great.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_00]: So hopefully we are right in our, in our assertions.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_00]: Again, I think my final thought on this as I just think they're just going to be able to really like they know the dolphins are going to want to run
- 32:43[SPEAKER_00]: the opportunity to be like, let's stop that because we're not terribly worried about their passing offense.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that's gonna be good enough to hold them down.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_00]: So, actually, is any final thoughts before we wrap it up?
- 32:54[SPEAKER_01]: Just, you know, you made, that's a really interesting point you just made, and I want to sort of... Like, me.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_01]: Mostly because I think this is gonna be a place where we're really gonna see, like, Morris's scheme and in particular, putting a lot of focus and, like,
- 33:12[SPEAKER_01]: like emphasis on the secondary right like if the 49ers corners can man up one on one and just like erase the dolphins receivers this game is not going to be competitive yeah and you know
- 33:27[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully, they can.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if I really thought beyond, like, maybe 2023 with moaning work that the 49ers had a corner capable of doing that.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_01]: So it will be real interesting because that would be, that would be the biggest takeaway.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, not the best receiver room, but still, if the 49ers can do that, that's going to both well for their future chances.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_00]: get awesome.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_00]: Well, with that, it's a pretty quick, uh, uh, these, these will get more in depth as the season goes along.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_00]: You know, week two, not a great opponent.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_00]: There's not a whole lot of analysis to do, but without, well, we'll, we'll, we'll.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we're getting our legs under us as the season goes along too.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_00]: So don't you forget that.
