- 0:00Speaker 1: Please don't use gendered language. A it's one more thing.
- 0:06Speaker 2: One more thing. I haven't heard that clip in forever.
- 0:09Speaker 2: We used to play that all the time.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Yeah, longtime listeners will get that reference. It's from a
- 0:14Speaker 1: meeting of the socialist Democratic Socialists of America meeting a
- 0:21Speaker 1: number of years ago when they were their original thing,
- 0:26Speaker 1: which was soft headed jackasses and college professors who thought,
- 0:31Speaker 1: give us a chance to implement socialism, we'll do it right.
- 0:35Speaker 2: And then it was taken over by the militant left.
- 0:39Speaker 2: And that's when some guys stood up and well.
- 0:42Speaker 1: That was the militant left was like after this. This
- 0:47Speaker 1: is back when it was still just the softheads and
- 0:50Speaker 1: professors from my understanding. But anyway, we're going to set
- 0:55Speaker 1: up the listening into Canada's new Democratic Party com friends
- 1:01Speaker 1: with a fond look back at the Democratic Socialists before
- 1:04Speaker 1: they turned hateful and violent. Do you got to have
- 1:07Speaker 1: those handy Michael, who can forget these clips?
- 1:10Speaker 3: Quick point of privilege? Quick point of personal privilege?
- 1:13Speaker 2: Guys.
- 1:14Speaker 4: First of all, James Jackson, Sacramento, he him. I just
- 1:18Speaker 4: want to say, can we please keep the chatter to
- 1:19Speaker 4: a minimum. I'm one of the people who's very very
- 1:21Speaker 4: prone to sensory overload. There's a lot of whispering and
- 1:24Speaker 4: chatter going on. It's making it very difficult for me
- 1:26Speaker 4: to focus. Please can we just I know it's we're
- 1:28Speaker 4: all fresh and ready to go, but can we please
- 1:30Speaker 4: just keep the chatter to a minimum. It's affecting my
- 1:32Speaker 4: ability to focus.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Thank you, Thank you, comrade.
- 1:35Speaker 5: Okay, is there a speaker against name.
- 1:37Speaker 6: Chapter point of personal privilege? Yes, please do not use
- 1:43Speaker 6: gendered language to address everyone.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Okay, So it became yeah, I remember when we were
- 1:52Speaker 2: playing that. It became very clear that with that crowd
- 1:54Speaker 2: you would never be able to get anything done.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Well, they can't get out of their own ways.
- 1:59Speaker 7: Point of privilege?
- 1:59Speaker 2: Are we just going to ignore the fact that we're
- 2:01Speaker 2: having this conversation on land once owned by the Iroquois?
- 2:05Speaker 1: Exactly? Exactly the intersectional narcissism, small distinctions of self obsession thing,
- 2:13Speaker 1: they couldn't get anything done. One more clip of that.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Then we'll move on to the Canadians.
- 2:17Speaker 7: And additionally, with the noise issue, like avoid hissing, avoid
- 2:22Speaker 7: waving banners, right, because there's all sorts of things if
- 2:26Speaker 7: you don't know what to do, show up these right,
- 2:28Speaker 7: I'm sure there's lots of ways that we can communicate
- 2:30Speaker 7: to each other without needing to rely on something that's
- 2:33Speaker 7: going to hurt somebody else. We have quiet rooms that
- 2:36Speaker 7: are available. There's a range of options of these. Right,
- 2:39Speaker 7: Please don't go in that space with anything that's like
- 2:41Speaker 7: an aggressive scent, for instance. Right, So, we don't want
- 2:44Speaker 7: to put people in stressful situations that they don't consent to. Right,
- 2:48Speaker 7: And there are right wing infiltrators who are trying to
- 2:52Speaker 7: get in here, but it's going to be really traumatic
- 2:54Speaker 7: for people if we're not making an affirmative effort to
- 2:57Speaker 7: de escalate each other and de escalate ourselves.
- 3:00Speaker 3: All right, take the deep breath.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Is this real?
- 3:04Speaker 7: Yes, don't feel better before you say anything.
- 3:07Speaker 2: I had forgotten how I had forgotten how over the
- 3:10Speaker 2: top that was.
- 3:11Speaker 1: How do they go outside?
- 3:13Speaker 2: I know? And the idea you could get anything done
- 3:16Speaker 2: a point of privilege. Getting anything done is white supremacy.
- 3:20Speaker 2: That's white supremacist language. So getting anything to stop saying
- 3:23Speaker 2: we're not gonna get anything done, insisting on starting on
- 3:26Speaker 2: time is white privilege. That's white supremacy. I had forgotten
- 3:30Speaker 2: the various quiet rooms they had, but did not go
- 3:33Speaker 2: in there with an aggressive sense.
- 3:36Speaker 1: All right, here's your sobering note. You hate how I
- 3:39Speaker 1: you know how I hate to be sober. We've got
- 3:42Speaker 1: a couple of generations of college students who believe all
- 3:44Speaker 1: this stuff and they think that's the way you show
- 3:46Speaker 1: your enlightenment.
- 3:47Speaker 2: And the whole we have white right wingers who want
- 3:49Speaker 2: to infiltrate. We don't need to, We don't need to
- 3:52Speaker 2: infiltrate to cause any problems. You just do, you record it,
- 3:55Speaker 2: and then we'll play black back the clips for people
- 3:58Speaker 2: who will realize you're all nuts.
- 4:00Speaker 1: The last thing we're going to do is get in your.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Way, right, You're not going to stop you.
- 4:06Speaker 1: So on that note, you've got Canada's new Democratic Party conference,
- 4:11Speaker 1: which is trying to harness the energy on the left
- 4:14Speaker 1: and become a force in Canadian politics, and we've got
- 4:17Speaker 1: a bunch of audio from their recent convention get together.
- 4:22Speaker 1: We'll just start with thirty Michael and go from there.
- 4:24Speaker 1: You should know that. And I'm not sure they self identify.
- 4:27Speaker 1: This is an Asian trans delegate.
- 4:30Speaker 3: There is a point. Let's hear the point on microphone one.
- 4:34Speaker 8: I'm sorry, just real quick point of personal privilege. I
- 4:38Speaker 8: understand there's very little time and for delegates to speak,
- 4:42Speaker 8: but early on the mic, it's hard as a racialized
- 4:46Speaker 8: and transgender delegate to sometimes use this card and speak up,
- 4:50Speaker 8: speak to somebody in front of me in line and
- 4:52Speaker 8: ask hey, this pertains to multiple intersecting parts of my
- 4:55Speaker 8: lived experience. I'd like to speak. I was rejected when
- 4:59Speaker 8: I talked, and it's frustrating when these are my rights
- 5:03Speaker 8: being directly under attack right now in Alberta. And that
- 5:07Speaker 8: assist gender woman had spoken over me, and I understand
- 5:12Speaker 8: her rights are important to This pertains to her too,
- 5:15Speaker 8: but I don't know. I hope that in the future
- 5:19Speaker 8: the federal NDP will also have a broader interpretation of
- 5:22Speaker 8: the equity cards for speakers.
- 5:24Speaker 2: That's all, thank you, This is this.
- 5:29Speaker 1: The NDP is the new Democratic Party. Just so you
- 5:31Speaker 1: don't lose track, all right. Adrian Smith is one of
- 5:33Speaker 1: the leaders of this. Here's her response.
- 5:35Speaker 5: I will invite delegates to assist me in better using
- 5:39Speaker 5: the card by forming a straight, straight line behind the
- 5:44Speaker 5: microphone with a prominently distate equity card. If I see
- 5:48Speaker 5: speakers ahead of you who are not holding a card prominently,
- 5:51Speaker 5: it would be wrong with me.
- 5:52Speaker 3: To guess about their gender identity, and I will come
- 5:55Speaker 3: to you.
- 5:57Speaker 9: This applies so far according to your rule for gender
- 6:01Speaker 9: identities other than a dude, but it is open to
- 6:04Speaker 9: us to change our rules as we like, as we
- 6:06Speaker 9: move forward into the bright and golden future.
- 6:09Speaker 3: Thank you friends. Let's hear the balloting co.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Chairs and here's where they discussed further these gender equity
- 6:21Speaker 1: cards that I guess everybody has to carry.
- 6:25Speaker 5: There's a point of privilege on microphone one. Then we'll
- 6:27Speaker 5: go to microphone three. Go ahead, delegate.
- 6:30Speaker 10: Yes, hello, I was standing here with my gender equity
- 6:33Speaker 10: card before you called on the previous speaker.
- 6:36Speaker 3: That's my point of privilege, and I would like to her.
- 6:37Speaker 5: I will explain this speaking order which is fixed that
- 6:40Speaker 5: I cannot amend, which is the pro con rotation. You
- 6:43Speaker 5: can move yourself up a line that you're standing and
- 6:46Speaker 5: I am pro, and I was. We went pro.
- 6:54Speaker 3: And my plan was to go con.
- 6:55Speaker 5: The speaker at Convite three also has a speaking card.
- 6:59Speaker 10: Yesterday, this card was used in an inappropriate matter, and
- 7:04Speaker 10: while I understand in Ontario we know this is equity,
- 7:08Speaker 10: even if that this was also used inappropriate in terms
- 7:11Speaker 10: of gender. I want everyone to be mindful that these
- 7:15Speaker 10: cards for individuals like myself who identify as a black
- 7:19Speaker 10: woman have no value outside of this space.
- 7:23Speaker 2: That's true.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Uh, I must remind you these people want to run
- 7:28Speaker 1: the government. Wait till you hear this one so oh
- 7:33Speaker 1: so wait then get to thirty one.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Michael, Yeah, it's like Fred Armison wrote this for Portlandia.
- 7:40Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, it's just amazing that this is real.
- 7:44Speaker 2: So each person has to come up with a way
- 7:49Speaker 2: to like top the previous person on how No, you
- 7:53Speaker 2: thought you were offended? No, no, no, I am offended
- 7:56Speaker 2: or oppressed or pressed.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Yeah, you oppressed me, but I'm oppressed. Well that may be, but.
- 8:01Speaker 2: You sorry, the two of you, you're both oppressing me
- 8:05Speaker 2: because of it's just a climbing the ladder.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Well, naturally you've got to go to the chairperson to
- 8:12Speaker 1: settle this dispute, right, and in clip thirty one, here's
- 8:14Speaker 1: how it went.
- 8:16Speaker 11: Canada cannot and will not be part of the legacy
- 8:21Speaker 11: of blood that was built in Iraq, in Palestine and
- 8:25Speaker 11: now in Iran.
- 8:26Speaker 3: This is a no question debate.
- 8:29Speaker 11: I call this question Adam and chairs, thank you.
- 8:38Speaker 3: Your point's quite well made.
- 8:40Speaker 5: Speaker Again, thank delegates, not to call me madame chair?
- 8:44Speaker 3: Who madame a president? I'm a non binary person. My
- 8:47Speaker 3: pronouns are they of them? And their chair is sufficient?
- 8:51Speaker 2: Yeah, oh.
- 8:55Speaker 1: That's priceless. So this gal brings the thunder of ho
- 8:58Speaker 1: you know, anti is real pro Palestine blah blah blah.
- 9:02Speaker 1: And the response is, uh, don't call me madame Chairhanman
- 9:04Speaker 1: a non binary person, my pronouns are they them? There?
- 9:10Speaker 1: Oh my god.
- 9:14Speaker 2: We've talked a lot about this, many words have been
- 9:16Speaker 2: written about it, but it's still hard for me to
- 9:19Speaker 2: wrap my head around. And like Katie said, how do
- 9:21Speaker 2: you go out of your house? How do you engage
- 9:25Speaker 2: the world and not just spend all day long miserably offended?
- 9:29Speaker 2: They do? I guess they do.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a little more unintentional comedy thirty two Michael,
- 9:36Speaker 1: it's a point of go ahead.
- 9:38Speaker 12: It's got a point of privilege. The microphone seemed really
- 9:41Speaker 12: low today. It's hard to hear everyone at the mic
- 9:44Speaker 12: between the background noise and the volume in here with
- 9:47Speaker 12: the microphones is really hard to hear.
- 9:49Speaker 13: And the cult close.
- 9:49Speaker 12: Caption also is slower to make it hard to keep
- 9:52Speaker 12: up with what's going on.
- 9:55Speaker 1: That was a lady and what way?
- 9:57Speaker 2: What did that was? Was it?
- 10:00Speaker 1: Lady? What was that.
- 10:02Speaker 2: First thing she said?
- 10:03Speaker 1: What was low? The mics are too low.
- 10:08Speaker 13: I want to hit every single person we just heard,
- 10:10Speaker 13: just to let you know. Oh, I know, all right,
- 10:12Speaker 13: at least one thirty three Michael.
- 10:15Speaker 2: My pronounce are she heard?
- 10:16Speaker 3: L and ran.
- 10:17Speaker 1: It's gonna be really hard to follow.
- 10:18Speaker 14: Rob Ashton, amazing speaker. We are working class party. I
- 10:23Speaker 14: think most of us in this room are behind that.
- 10:26Speaker 14: And while we can debate on the specific words and
- 10:28Speaker 14: who is and isn't included, I think our constitution needs
- 10:31Speaker 14: to recognize that, and I also recognize.
- 10:33Speaker 1: There is I'm sorry, I'm just speaking way too fast.
- 10:35Speaker 8: Let me slow down for the close captioning.
- 10:37Speaker 2: So I'm so sorry. I get excited.
- 10:39Speaker 3: Oh I have the right to.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Say, you're a dude. They're all so happy with themselves.
- 10:50Speaker 2: There's got to be among them, though, even the people
- 10:52Speaker 2: that buy into that stuff. I would think there'd be
- 10:55Speaker 2: some of them saying, I'm not sure we can get
- 10:58Speaker 2: anything done because we'll never stop with the.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Point of order.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Point of order, Madam Chair, this is aggressive, Madam Chair.
- 11:09Speaker 2: I feel like the temperature in the room is aggressive.
- 11:12Speaker 2: I temperature sent an aggressive scent.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Don't call me, madam chair, don't correct me. I'm dyslexic. Okay, yeah, exactly.
- 11:20Speaker 2: What did that last guy say?
- 11:21Speaker 13: I'm a she her lase FOI what the what was.
- 11:25Speaker 1: That it was? He was also giving his pronouns, which
- 11:30Speaker 1: are oddly female in French. Police.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Oh wow, how culturally diverse of him. Wow, it's incredible.
- 11:42Speaker 13: We can't do stuff like this when I'm not allowed
- 11:43Speaker 13: to drink. This is not fair.
- 11:47Speaker 1: I'd like to attend one of these. Just come up
- 11:48Speaker 1: with all sorts of fake grievances and see what they do.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Oh, please do that. Somebody just said, on the other hand,
- 11:55Speaker 2: that's ablest. I don't have any hands exactly.
- 11:59Speaker 1: But then, Michael, when you let on and said, you
- 12:01Speaker 1: know what, I was clowning you people, they would say, in.
- 12:04Speaker 2: What way point of privilege? My dad was a clown
- 12:08Speaker 2: and was abusive.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Oh that's a point of order, Madam Chair. I mean
- 12:17Speaker 1: they then chair, that was a white male who is
- 12:21Speaker 1: abused by a clown. We have a black transgender delegate
- 12:24Speaker 1: who is abused by a clown. And the white male
- 12:26Speaker 1: spoke before the transgender delegate even though she heard it
- 12:30Speaker 1: displayed heard them's gender parody card, Madam chair, I mean chairperson.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Thing point of privilege. I find the chair term offensive.
- 12:40Speaker 2: And there are parts of the world where they squat.
- 12:42Speaker 2: They do not have chairs. Making I'm in a wheelchair.
- 12:49Speaker 1: I'm an unabled delegate, and it is ableism to refer
- 12:53Speaker 1: to a chair.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Oh my god.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Oh, and you.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Can't go far enough to get like outside of where
- 13:02Speaker 2: it could go.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Right again, they would not recognize that you were mocking.
- 13:08Speaker 12: Now.
- 13:08Speaker 13: They would have taken everything that jo of you just said,
- 13:11Speaker 13: very seriously exactly.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Wow, that is just unbelievable.
- 13:19Speaker 4: God.
- 13:19Speaker 2: I hope my kids I don't think they will. They're
- 13:21Speaker 2: pretty hardcore the other direction right now, I'm just saying,
- 13:24Speaker 2: I say, I hope neither one of my kids end
- 13:26Speaker 2: up there, but I don't think that'll happen. They both
- 13:30Speaker 2: would react to that the same way we've all react
- 13:32Speaker 2: to it. That is too much. I'd forgotten how good
- 13:34Speaker 2: that one was for a couple of years ago. Though
- 13:36Speaker 2: about the quiet rooms, but don't go in there with
- 13:38Speaker 2: an aggressive scent. Thank you, comrade, Yeah, thank you, comrade.
- 13:46Speaker 1: I'm calling for account of the balls in the room.
- 13:50Speaker 1: I'm guessing it would be very, very low.
- 13:54Speaker 6: Please do not use gendered language to address everyone.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Well, I guess that's it. Guy sounded like he was
- 14:09Speaker 2: gonna die.
- 14:12Speaker 1: He was so fired up, he was so offended. Please stop,
- 14:16Speaker 1: you say dirtline.
