- 0:00Speaker 1: NewsRadio 570 WKVN. Ron Verba. All right. 406 here.
- 0:03Speaker 2: All right.
- 0:04Speaker 1: So let me ask you this, Ted, the conservative. Obviously,
- 0:08Speaker 1: Epstein happened. I mean, there's a controversy about it. And obviously,
- 0:13Speaker 1: there are victims involved here. And I think that it's
- 0:17Speaker 1: rather obvious that this was an intelligence operation. So let's
- 0:22Speaker 1: not deny that. Hang on. Epstein happened and they're victims.
- 0:29Speaker 1: And we're not seeing justice take place. We're seeing a
- 0:34Speaker 1: double standard of justice because it's the intelligence community.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Do we know we're not seeing justice take place?
- 0:40Speaker 2: Yes.
- 0:41Speaker 3: How do we know that? Because people are talking about it?
- 0:44Speaker 1: No, tell me who's gotten convicted.
- 0:48Speaker 3: I can't because we don't know. We don't know what's happened.
- 0:52Speaker 3: The only person that we know that was convicted of
- 0:54Speaker 3: a crime was Jeffrey Epstein. And albeit, his sentencing seemed
- 0:58Speaker 3: to be pretty sketchy at best. But what I'm saying is,
- 1:02Speaker 3: you've got these politicians on the far sides of the spectrum,
- 1:07Speaker 3: and mostly on the far left of the spectrum. And
- 1:11Speaker 3: then you've got guys like the libertarians, like Tom Massey.
- 1:15Speaker 3: And these guys have made, you can just Google it.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Pull out your Google machine. How many times has Tom
- 1:21Speaker 3: Massey or Ro Khanna threatened to read the names in
- 1:24Speaker 3: the Epstein list? They claim they have complete authority and
- 1:28Speaker 3: protection under the United States laws to do so. Well,
- 1:31Speaker 3: do it. Don't use that for political fodder. Don't use
- 1:36Speaker 3: the Epstein list to promote yourself politically. If you have
- 1:40Speaker 3: the authority as you claim to do it, do it.
- 1:43Speaker 3: Who are they protecting? War. there's no one to protect maybe.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Like I said, you know, there could be a lot
- 1:50Speaker 3: of names just as we found out when the files
- 1:53Speaker 3: released that it was Donald Trump who called the Florida
- 1:56Speaker 3: police to report Epstein. But people seem to forget that
- 2:00Speaker 3: rather quickly. And all they want to do is try
- 2:03Speaker 3: to somehow connect Trump to the Epstein file. Just like
- 2:07Speaker 3: they want to say the shooting, the assassination attempts didn't happen.
- 2:11Speaker 3: We live in a world where people just make things
- 2:15Speaker 3: up To satisfy themselves?
- 2:18Speaker 1: Well, I think you have to be careful of those
- 2:21Speaker 1: type comments. And here's why I say that to you.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Because it can be argued on the other side when
- 2:27Speaker 1: people call it a conspiracy theory. They claim, well, you're
- 2:31Speaker 1: making all this stuff up that it was a lab
- 2:33Speaker 1: leak and it was man-made COVID. It's a conspiracy theory.
- 2:37Speaker 1: The replacement theory is a conspiracy theory. So you better
- 2:41Speaker 1: be careful when you say, oh, people are making things up.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Sometimes they try to dismiss them as conspiracy theories.
- 2:47Speaker 3: I'm not saying anyone's making things up. If you're telling
- 2:50Speaker 3: us you have something, then tell us what you have
- 2:52Speaker 3: or shut up.
- 2:53Speaker 1: I don't know that they have all of that information.
- 2:56Speaker 1: If you're asking me, If you're asking me once again,
- 3:04Speaker 1: do I think that the government is going to be
- 3:06Speaker 1: straightforward with what happened under Epstein and put the information
- 3:10Speaker 1: out there and hold people accountable? I do not. Do
- 3:13Speaker 1: I sit here and wonder who has that information and
- 3:15Speaker 1: or videos? No. Who has possession of them? And can
- 3:24Speaker 1: they use that to manipulate people in government power and
- 3:27Speaker 1: or the rich and wealthy? I do wonder that. I mean,
- 3:30Speaker 1: there's there's there is no question in my mind. I'll
- 3:34Speaker 1: say it again. Epstein was created. It's an intelligence community operation.
- 3:37Speaker 1: It's despicable to me. that it's an intelligent operation and
- 3:42Speaker 1: engaged in adult men having sex with underage girls. That's
- 3:47Speaker 1: despicable to begin with, whether that's the U.S.
- 3:51Speaker 4: It's the worst of all worst.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Right.
- 3:53Speaker 3: I saw on the news over the weekend another local guy,
- 3:56Speaker 3: sex crimes against children. I'm sorry, but this may be harsh.
- 4:00Speaker 3: People like that, they need to be eliminated from the earth.
- 4:04Speaker 1: But the reality is, I'm saying that there should be this.
- 4:10Speaker 1: What I'm witnessing is a double standard of justice. I mean,
- 4:14Speaker 1: with Prince Andrew, I don't know if Clinton was involved.
- 4:19Speaker 1: I don't know if Lutnick was involved. I don't know
- 4:23Speaker 1: who all was involved there.
- 4:25Speaker 3: And I don't think we'll ever know why.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Right, but like Larry Summers stepped down from his position
- 4:33Speaker 1: at Harvard.
- 4:34Speaker 3: I think some of the people, the names that were involved,
- 4:39Speaker 3: have faced retribution in whatever form that looks like.
- 4:42Speaker 1: But not legally. They've been humiliated. Larry Sanders, or was
- 4:47Speaker 1: it Larry Sanders or Summers, I think.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Because you went to dinner with a guy and hung
- 4:51Speaker 3: out with him doesn't mean you're a criminal. Doesn't mean
- 4:53Speaker 3: that you engaged in the second time.
- 4:55Speaker 1: That's correct.
- 4:56Speaker 3: They were found guilty in the arena of public perception
- 5:02Speaker 3: because they hung out with the guy. They were friends
- 5:04Speaker 3: with the guy. That's all. There's no evidence of them
- 5:08Speaker 3: doing anything other than that. So these guys, Massey and
- 5:11Speaker 3: Ro Khanna.
- 5:12Speaker 1: You don't know that, though. You don't know that because
- 5:14Speaker 1: we haven't seen. We don't know. Ro Khanna and.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Massey have said, I'm going to Google it and I'll
- 5:20Speaker 3: send it to you. I'll email you the article.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Listen, if you think I'm going to sit here and
- 5:27Speaker 1: support people that don't want to release anything or don't
- 5:31Speaker 1: want to get to the bottom of this, I will not. Listen,
- 5:37Speaker 1: I don't care if they're Democrats.
- 5:40Speaker 3: You're just as complicit as the other ones.
- 5:42Speaker 1: I don't care if they're Democrats or Republicans. I believe
- 5:45Speaker 1: this information is being... I agree. I'm not going to
- 5:52Speaker 1: sit here and say Massey should go do this or
- 5:54Speaker 1: this guy should go do that. It comes back to
- 5:57Speaker 1: where are the attorney generals to deal with this? What
- 6:01Speaker 1: happened with Pam Bondi? What happened to the current guy?
- 6:04Speaker 1: What happened to Garland? What happened under Biden administration or
- 6:09Speaker 1: under Trump? It's Republicans and Democrats. And that tells me
- 6:12Speaker 1: that you'll never get to the bottom of it, which
- 6:14Speaker 1: also tells me there's a double standard of justice, which
- 6:18Speaker 1: also tells me the victims will never get the justice
- 6:23Speaker 1: that they are deserving, which I find despicable. I don't.
- 6:30Speaker 1: So I'm not going to sit there and point fingers
- 6:32Speaker 1: at the people that wanted out there.
- 6:34Speaker 3: More horrendous than crimes against.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Yeah, but you're trying to you're trying to tarnish the
- 6:38Speaker 1: people that are saying, hey, you people in power, put
- 6:42Speaker 1: this information out here. Well, I'm not going to blame them.
- 6:46Speaker 1: They're saying to the attorney general, Pam Bondi changed her
- 6:49Speaker 1: story in a blink of an eye. What the hell happened?
- 6:52Speaker 3: They're telling us Pam Bondi lied. They're telling us President
- 6:55Speaker 3: Trump is covering something up. So they have proof and evidence.
- 6:58Speaker 3: They have to have proof and evidence to say that, right?
- 7:00Speaker 3: So tell us what you know.
- 7:02Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 7:03Speaker 1: I think they're expressing an opinion. Some people might believe
- 7:06Speaker 1: that to be true. And I don't know. Listen, I
- 7:09Speaker 1: can't sit here and say to you, I know 100%
- 7:13Speaker 1: Trump was involved or wasn't involved. I don't know. You know,
- 7:18Speaker 1: I mean, remember, remember Elon Musk said when he was
- 7:22Speaker 1: in his feud with Trump, he says Trump will never
- 7:24Speaker 1: release the Epstein files because he's in them. Am I
- 7:27Speaker 1: supposed to say.
- 7:28Speaker 3: He was in the he was in the. Yeah, but
- 7:30Speaker 3: I mean, what did he it was disclosed that he's
- 7:32Speaker 3: the one who.
- 7:33Speaker 1: I don't think that was I don't think that was
- 7:35Speaker 1: in the Epstein files. That's rumored. That was never in
- 7:39Speaker 1: the files that he was the one that was, that
- 7:41Speaker 1: was put out there, but I don't know what fact
- 7:43Speaker 1: is released.
- 7:44Speaker 3: I've seen it on Fox news.
- 7:45Speaker 1: I've seen, I don't know.
- 7:46Speaker 2: I don't know that.
- 7:47Speaker 1: I think that's more, I don't think that that's fine.
- 7:50Speaker 1: That for me, then if you say that it's in
- 7:51Speaker 1: the Epstein files.
- 7:53Speaker 3: I will, I will do that. Is that my homework assignment?
- 7:57Speaker 1: Listen, the bottom line is I'm not going to attack
- 7:59Speaker 1: the people. I'm going to say to everyone involved in this,
- 8:02Speaker 1: there is a cover-up. It will continue to be covered
- 8:05Speaker 1: up because somebody has this information, and maybe they're using
- 8:09Speaker 1: it to get things to fall in line that they
- 8:14Speaker 1: want these people to do.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Would you agree with me on this?
- 8:19Speaker 3: Anyone who claims to know the names that are in
- 8:21Speaker 3: the files but doesn't tell us the names are just
- 8:24Speaker 3: as complicit as everyone else.
- 8:28Speaker 1: No, I think they only know as much as has
- 8:30Speaker 1: been put out there.
- 8:32Speaker 3: I don't know. These guys, some of these congressmen claim
- 8:35Speaker 3: they've seen the names, they've seen the files.
- 8:37Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 8:38Speaker 3: But let's move on.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Yes.
- 8:39Speaker 3: Why I called you. Did you see the news over
- 8:41Speaker 3: the weekend out of Ukraine?
- 8:43Speaker 1: What about it?
- 8:45Speaker 3: The latest assaults from Russia, hundreds of missiles, ballistic missiles, drones. Now,
- 8:51Speaker 3: I know G2 has made numerous statements supporting Russia's aggressions.
- 8:58Speaker 3: And we could agree, I think, that the boundaries of
- 9:02Speaker 3: those countries have been changed as to where Russia wanted them.
- 9:08Speaker 3: What is the endgame here? Like, what is going on?
- 9:11Speaker 3: Why are we just allowing Russia to just destroy this country?
- 9:15Speaker 3: And I'm not saying we as the United States, why
- 9:17Speaker 3: the United Nations is not doing anything, but what's the
- 9:20Speaker 3: endgame here? I was just shocked to wake up.
- 9:24Speaker 1: I don't know that there is an end game. This
- 9:26Speaker 1: has gone on for years. And do you see an
- 9:29Speaker 1: end game? I do not.
- 9:30Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 9:31Speaker 3: That's what I'm asking you. I don't know. I don't
- 9:33Speaker 3: see it.
- 9:33Speaker 1: I mean, do you remember when Trump said, if I
- 9:35Speaker 1: get elected, I'll solve it day one? Well, he tried,
- 9:38Speaker 1: but he was unsuccessful in it. He thought he could
- 9:41Speaker 1: reach an agreement, and obviously he's unable to do so.
- 9:45Speaker 1: It's almost like he's given up on it and said,
- 9:47Speaker 1: I don't know how to hell with it at this point.
- 9:50Speaker 3: I'm just surprised to see the continued attack on civilians.
- 9:56Speaker 3: It's one thing to reestablish the lines of the country.
- 9:59Speaker 3: the border that you claim territory should be Russian because
- 10:03Speaker 3: they're Russian-speaking people, or you can go all the way
- 10:07Speaker 3: back to the biolab issue if you want to make
- 10:09Speaker 3: that an issue. But, I mean, what's the ending? I
- 10:15Speaker 3: just don't understand it. I don't understand it. I thought
- 10:18Speaker 3: maybe the great Ron might have.
- 10:20Speaker 5: An opinion on that.
- 10:20Speaker 1: I don't know that there is an endgame because it
- 10:22Speaker 1: just continues to go on year after year after year.
- 10:27Speaker 1: In the Ukraine, they're arguing this is our country and
- 10:30Speaker 1: Russia's saying this part is ours and these are our
- 10:34Speaker 1: people that are being tortured. So I don't know how
- 10:37Speaker 1: long something like that can go on as far as
- 10:39Speaker 1: the expense and the loss of life. I think you
- 10:43Speaker 1: have to reach some type of a compromise and I
- 10:45Speaker 1: don't think that that's I don't think it's ever going
- 10:48Speaker 1: to happen. I don't see it happening, and I don't
- 10:51Speaker 1: know that you'll see it happening in Iran either. I
- 10:55Speaker 1: don't know what's that.
- 10:57Speaker 3: I think Iran is turning into a quagmire, as you said.
- 11:01Speaker 1: That's Rich's line. That's a great description.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Is that Rich's line?
- 11:05Speaker 1: Yeah. I think that was a great description for it.
- 11:09Speaker 3: I support Trump. It doesn't mean that I endorse his decisions.
- 11:12Speaker 3: I support him. We're there. Do what you have to
- 11:15Speaker 3: do now to get it done. But my goodness gracious,
- 11:20Speaker 3: time is ticking. I'm starting to look at the midterms,
- 11:25Speaker 3: and I don't know. I felt confident for a while there,
- 11:28Speaker 3: but it seems like Trump tells us one thing, and
- 11:36Speaker 3: another thing happens.
- 11:38Speaker 1: On the other hand, though, I mean, when you talk
- 11:40Speaker 1: about the midterms, I still go back to say if
- 11:43Speaker 1: you're crazy enough to vote for the people that brought
- 11:45Speaker 1: you this high inflation and if you're crazy enough to
- 11:47Speaker 1: vote for the people with that wacky social agenda and
- 11:51Speaker 1: to the transgender stuff. If you if that all to
- 11:56Speaker 1: vote for that and to bring all that back as
- 11:59Speaker 1: bad as Trump might be in some of his decisions overall,
- 12:03Speaker 1: his decisions have been common sense decisions good for the country.
- 12:07Speaker 1: So if you have to take a look in a way,
- 12:10Speaker 1: the Democrats and Republicans.
- 12:12Speaker 3: You know me, what's the number one rule when it
- 12:14Speaker 3: comes to elections? Never vote for a.
- 12:20Speaker 1: A woman.
- 12:21Speaker 2: No.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Now, that would be sexist. He would never be sexist.
- 12:27Speaker 3: He would never vote for a Democrat. And you better
- 12:29Speaker 3: hope your wife's not listening to you.
- 12:32Speaker 1: All right, Ted.
- 12:32Speaker 3: You'll be in trouble. You'll be in trouble, Warren.
- 12:34Speaker 1: I'm fearless. Thank you.
- 12:36Speaker 2: All right, Ted.
- 12:38Speaker 1: The conservative. And Ron Furb, you're on. Wait a minute. Hello?
- 12:42Speaker 1: Hang on.
- 12:42Speaker 6: Ron?
- 12:43Speaker 1: Yes.
- 12:44Speaker 3: Oh, good afternoon.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Good afternoon.
- 12:49Speaker 4: I don't think you're going to see a peace deal
- 12:51Speaker 4: with Iran anytime soon. As a matter of fact, I
- 12:54Speaker 4: was just looking on Fox, and they have Trump scheduled
- 12:58Speaker 4: a meeting at Camp David tomorrow with all his advisors,
- 13:00Speaker 4: so it wouldn't surprise me if they start heating things
- 13:03Speaker 4: up over there again. And like I said before, the
- 13:06Speaker 4: reason is I think you've got people inside Iran that
- 13:10Speaker 4: would love to make a deal, but the people that
- 13:13Speaker 4: hold the guns control the power. And that's why the
- 13:17Speaker 4: thing started. It was the Iranians who started laying mines
- 13:20Speaker 4: again yesterday. When we took out the two ships that
- 13:23Speaker 4: were laying mines, they fired a missile at one of
- 13:25Speaker 4: our planes. Because the people that have the guns and
- 13:28Speaker 4: control the military, the Revolutionary Guard, they don't want this
- 13:33Speaker 4: to end. Those are religious nutjobs. They would be fine
- 13:38Speaker 4: seeing the country go down in flames and the people starve.
- 13:41Speaker 4: They don't care about the people. It's all about their
- 13:43Speaker 4: religious perspectives. and getting their 72 virgins if they go
- 13:48Speaker 4: to Seattle.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Well, I can't sit here and tell you what percentage
- 13:52Speaker 1: of the country supports it or doesn't support it. I
- 13:54Speaker 1: don't know. I mean, I genuinely don't know. I'll say
- 13:58Speaker 1: it again. It's a whole different culture. I can't tell
- 14:00Speaker 1: you that 80% of the people support it or don't
- 14:03Speaker 1: support it. It's hard to get a read on. Yeah.
- 14:08Speaker 4: It doesn't matter because they don't have the power. It's
- 14:13Speaker 4: basically the Revolutionary Guard has the power.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Well, it's people with the guns.
- 14:18Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly. The gun wins the fight. So I don't
- 14:25Speaker 4: see that ending. But that's actually not what I called for.
- 14:29Speaker 4: I meant to call last week, but I got delayed
- 14:32Speaker 4: doing a couple of things. Did you see that the
- 14:35Speaker 4: Board of Elections wants to put the new Board of
- 14:38Speaker 4: Elections office down in that old grocery store in the
- 14:41Speaker 4: Fosterville area, Youngstown, that old bottom dollar store?
- 14:43Speaker 1: Yes.
- 14:45Speaker 4: What are your thoughts on that?
- 14:49Speaker 1: Well, now, there's a couple of different things. I thought
- 14:55Speaker 1: I was reading where somebody wants to– wait a second–
- 15:00Speaker 1: I was reading it on one of the local news
- 15:02Speaker 1: sites where somebody said they would want to move ASAP,
- 15:07Speaker 1: the voting machines, to Bev Road because of the concern
- 15:12Speaker 1: over water damage. Okay. I thought, let me see if
- 15:15Speaker 1: I can find that story. And then I was told
- 15:22Speaker 1: that the Bev Road building was being used by the
- 15:26Speaker 1: Green Team. So I don't know.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Is it?
- 15:31Speaker 4: That's what I was told as well.
- 15:32Speaker 1: And I don't know if that's the case or not,
- 15:34Speaker 1: because then I saw where... I'm trying to find it
- 15:38Speaker 1: as we talk. Where they were saying that somebody in
- 15:42Speaker 1: the Board of Elections was saying, let's move the machines
- 15:45Speaker 1: down to Bev Road. Let me see. Let me see. Naturally,
- 15:57Speaker 1: I can't find it when I need it, but... What
- 16:00Speaker 1: are my thoughts? I mean, do we have any county
- 16:02Speaker 1: buildings that are unoccupied and available? My opinion is I
- 16:07Speaker 1: would put it in a Patriot building in Austintown. That
- 16:10Speaker 1: would be my standby. Standby with that. Just standby. Hang on.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Back in a minute with Richard Pharmacist. Should be an
- 16:19Speaker 1: interesting discussion. Stay tuned. 570 WKBN. All right. Back with
- 16:25Speaker 1: Richard Pharmacist. News Radio 570 WKBN. I mean, it's a
- 16:29Speaker 1: great question. I mean, in general..
- 16:32Speaker 3: Well, it's not rich.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Oh, hang on.
- 16:33Speaker 3: Wait a minute.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Where is rich? Are you there? Wait, no, you're not there.
- 16:38Speaker 3: Rich? You got me.
- 16:40Speaker 1: All right. My problem is that... It seems to me
- 16:45Speaker 1: that there's a mentality that all of this stuff somehow
- 16:49Speaker 1: has to stay in a city of Youngstown. And I
- 16:51Speaker 1: do not agree with that. These are county offices. And
- 16:55Speaker 1: I would like to see, from a county office standpoint,
- 16:58Speaker 1: quite frankly, I'd like to see the trustees in the
- 17:01Speaker 1: township in which I live try to champion getting the
- 17:05Speaker 1: Board of Elections to move to the Patriot Building. I
- 17:07Speaker 1: don't know exactly. If it'll fall on deaf ears or not,
- 17:10Speaker 1: they should certainly be talking with the commissioners about it
- 17:13Speaker 1: when we talk about getting... The Patriot Building, I think,
- 17:16Speaker 1: is centrally located. It has parking. Yes, you're going to
- 17:21Speaker 1: have to put money into the bottom dollar building. So
- 17:24Speaker 1: why not put it into the Patriot Building and do
- 17:28Speaker 1: whatever repairs you have to do and have ownership of
- 17:31Speaker 1: that building? It's centrally located and easy to get to.
- 17:35Speaker 1: And I don't think all this stuff... This mentality, it
- 17:38Speaker 1: all has to be in a city of Youngstown. I'm
- 17:40Speaker 1: not buying it. I don't think the bottom dollar building
- 17:44Speaker 1: is in a city and you got to put money
- 17:46Speaker 1: into it. And I'm confused. Would you own it or
- 17:50Speaker 1: would you be renting it? I'm confused with that whole
- 17:53Speaker 1: concept to begin with. The city of Youngstown arguing, well,
- 17:56Speaker 1: they want to buy it for a dollar and the
- 17:58Speaker 1: Port Authority or whatever.
- 18:00Speaker 4: I mean, I.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Don't get it. I think it should be a county-owned
- 18:03Speaker 1: building that's maintained. Your comment.
- 18:06Speaker 4: I would love to see somebody do an investigation of
- 18:09Speaker 4: the Port Authority, to be honest with you. Me too.
- 18:11Speaker 4: Because the Port Authority is the one that's pushing all
- 18:13Speaker 4: this stuff. They're the ones that, and I'd like to
- 18:15Speaker 4: know what's behind that. Why are they pushing the whole
- 18:18Speaker 4: Eastern Gateway project? Why are they, you know, they had sold,
- 18:23Speaker 4: paid the Patriot building to the county, and then they
- 18:25Speaker 4: took it back to push Eastern Gateway. Now they want
- 18:28Speaker 4: bottom dollar. My biggest issue with bottom dollar is, If
- 18:33Speaker 4: you're in the city of Youngstown, even if you're in
- 18:35Speaker 4: the city of Youngstown, it's not that great of a location.
- 18:37Speaker 4: Because if you live on the north side, the south side,
- 18:39Speaker 4: the east side, unless you live towards the west side,
- 18:42Speaker 4: the Mill Creek Park area, you're not close to it.
- 18:45Speaker 4: There's no easy way to get there. It's miles and
- 18:48Speaker 4: miles from any freeway access. So for the people that
- 18:52Speaker 4: are coming out, let's say you live out in Smith
- 18:55Speaker 4: Township or Goshen Township and you and your wife want
- 18:58Speaker 4: to go vote early. There's people who probably don't even
- 19:00Speaker 4: know where the heck that's at, and without Google Maps,
- 19:03Speaker 4: probably not going to be able to find it.
- 19:06Speaker 1: And I'm willing to say there'd be a segment of
- 19:09Speaker 1: people who wouldn't feel secure in the area.
- 19:12Speaker 4: That's not a good area. I mean, there's nothing wrong
- 19:16Speaker 4: with saying that. It's an old, beat-up, run-down area of
- 19:18Speaker 4: the city. I wouldn't, you know, would you want to
- 19:21Speaker 4: walk there at 10, 11 o'clock at night? I wouldn't.
- 19:25Speaker 4: That's just being realistic. But I'm tired of the county
- 19:30Speaker 4: not treating its residents the way a retailer would. Most
- 19:36Speaker 4: of my career has been in retail. And you have
- 19:38Speaker 4: to take care of the customers you're serving, or the
- 19:43Speaker 4: customers will walk with their feet and find someplace else. Unfortunately,
- 19:46Speaker 4: we can't.
- 19:47Speaker 1: What's the most important thing in retail? Location.
- 19:51Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 19:51Speaker 1: I mean, is it easy that you could have a
- 19:54Speaker 1: four-way intersection, two major ways, one corner's better than the
- 19:59Speaker 1: other because it's easier to get in and out. Stand by.
- 20:01Speaker 1: I want to come back. I'm going to talk more
- 20:03Speaker 1: with Richard Pharmacist about this interesting topic. We'll be right back.
- 20:08Speaker 7: News Radio 570 WKVN. Now, Ron Verb on News Radio
- 20:17Speaker 7: 570 WKVN.
- 20:19Speaker 1: I'm back with Richard Pharmacist. So go ahead with your thoughts.
- 20:23Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not a fan of that location.
- 20:27Speaker 4: From what I was told, it's pretty much Dave Beatrice's
- 20:30Speaker 4: little baby. He's the one that's really pushing it. The
- 20:34Speaker 4: Republican parts of the Board of Elections don't really want it,
- 20:38Speaker 4: but Dave is running the show, so it's his baby.
- 20:41Speaker 4: That's what I hear through the grapevine. And I'm just
- 20:44Speaker 4: trying to figure out why he would want to do that.
- 20:47Speaker 4: But like you said, the reason that we have to
- 20:50Speaker 4: keep it in the city is nonsense. Especially, you know,
- 20:54Speaker 4: the WRTA runs all through there. People can get rides.
- 20:58Speaker 4: There's no reason it has to be kept in the
- 21:00Speaker 4: city of Youngstown. And I would say the same thing
- 21:03Speaker 4: about the title agency. The title agency is probably, what,
- 21:09Speaker 4: 10 miles from the nearest auto dealer. There's zero reason
- 21:14Speaker 4: that those auto dealers should have to go running down
- 21:16Speaker 4: to the Oak Hill Renaissance building to get titles, or
- 21:21Speaker 4: the general public, for that matter. It should be put
- 21:24Speaker 4: somewhere in Boardman, in my opinion. I would even split
- 21:26Speaker 4: it in two. I'd put one over off of Mahoning
- 21:29Speaker 4: Avenue in... an 11 in Austin town, and I'd put
- 21:32Speaker 4: one somewhere in Boardman because that's where 95% of all
- 21:36Speaker 4: your auto transactions are going to be. But I just
- 21:39Speaker 4: think it's time for some people in county government to
- 21:41Speaker 4: start treating us like the consumers we are instead of
- 21:44Speaker 4: just taking advantage of us as voters and basically saying, well,
- 21:48Speaker 4: this is what we've decided. And if you don't like
- 21:49Speaker 4: it too bad.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Well, there's a statement I agree with because I'm obviously
- 21:53Speaker 1: opposed to this Eastern gateway nonsense that's going on. I'm
- 21:57Speaker 1: totally opposed to that. And, I don't think there's been
- 22:00Speaker 1: much discussion about it at all. But keep in mind,
- 22:03Speaker 1: the bonds will be the responsibility of Mahoning County, and
- 22:06Speaker 1: yet you don't have a say-so on it, which I
- 22:08Speaker 1: find very troubling. That it's like, oh, this is the
- 22:11Speaker 1: decision we made, and shut up and sit down, and
- 22:13Speaker 1: you're responsible for the bonds. I don't know. Like I say,
- 22:18Speaker 1: I'm trying to find that report where they were saying,
- 22:20Speaker 1: let's move the voting machines out to Bev Road.
- 22:24Speaker 4: And, you know, honestly, you could store the voting machines anywhere.
- 22:27Speaker 4: You just need a workplace with warehouse space that's secure.
- 22:30Speaker 4: All right.
- 22:31Speaker 1: So I'm going to go back. So if if they
- 22:33Speaker 1: do that, what is it? What is in that Masco
- 22:36Speaker 1: building on Bev Road and how much of it's being
- 22:39Speaker 1: used and how necessary is it? I mean, what county
- 22:43Speaker 1: buildings do we own presently that we own that we
- 22:47Speaker 1: can look at for the Board of Elections? And what
- 22:52Speaker 1: can we get the Patriot Building back, which is a
- 22:56Speaker 1: newer building, just as Bottom Dollar was a newer building
- 22:59Speaker 1: for a grocery store. But the Patriot Building, let's get
- 23:03Speaker 1: that back with... ground level, plenty of parking. It's got
- 23:09Speaker 1: the parking. If you're going to put money in a building,
- 23:11Speaker 1: why not put money into that building? It's centrally located.
- 23:13Speaker 1: I just think it's a better location for the Board
- 23:16Speaker 1: of Elections. But this nonsense, oh, we can't put it
- 23:18Speaker 1: in Austintown. It must be in a city. I don't
- 23:21Speaker 1: agree with that. And I think last time I checked,
- 23:25Speaker 1: Austintown Township is one of the largest townships around. And
- 23:30Speaker 1: so I put the Board of Elections there. It's easy
- 23:33Speaker 1: access for everybody. So why not do it? I don't
- 23:38Speaker 1: understand any of this stuff. I'm with you. The whole
- 23:40Speaker 1: Port Authority thing is disturbing to me when it comes
- 23:44Speaker 1: to this building that you mentioned. What did you do?
- 23:46Speaker 1: The Eastern Gateway Building. That whole thing is like you
- 23:50Speaker 1: sit down, shut up. You're responsible for the bonds. By
- 23:53Speaker 1: the way, here we're going to give you the Patriot
- 23:55Speaker 1: Building back. But wait a minute, shouldn't that be a
- 23:57Speaker 1: good location for the Board of Elections? But now we're
- 24:00Speaker 1: going to look at the bottom dollar where we're trying
- 24:02Speaker 1: to tell a city, sell us a building for a dollar. Well,
- 24:04Speaker 1: we don't want to do that. And then who would
- 24:07Speaker 1: own it? Would we be owners of it or leasing it?
- 24:11Speaker 1: I mean, I think you should own the building and
- 24:12Speaker 1: you should maintain it, and that should be the end
- 24:15Speaker 1: of it.
- 24:17Speaker 4: I agree, but what I don't understand is with relocating
- 24:21Speaker 4: a lot of the county businesses, And I've said this before,
- 24:25Speaker 4: I believe there's huge numbers of vacancies in most of
- 24:29Speaker 4: those office towers in downtown that you could easily put
- 24:33Speaker 4: a lot of these agencies in. Now, the argument is
- 24:36Speaker 4: there's no parking. But then what that tells me is
- 24:39Speaker 4: you don't really need to build a building, you need
- 24:41Speaker 4: to build a parking deck. so that people can park
- 24:44Speaker 4: and use downtown better.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Usually you like to park for free. There is zero
- 24:49Speaker 1: consideration given to the county as a whole, in my opinion.
- 24:53Speaker 1: It's all about Youngstown. And I'll make the argument. I
- 24:57Speaker 1: think the economic hub of Mahoning County is Boardman. I
- 24:59Speaker 1: don't think it's downtown Youngstown. I think the economic hub
- 25:03Speaker 1: is Boardman Township. That's where all your economic activity really
- 25:07Speaker 1: is centered. But with that being said... I don't go
- 25:12Speaker 1: with this bottom dollar. I'm with you. I think a
- 25:16Speaker 1: lot of people don't view it as a safe area.
- 25:18Speaker 1: I don't think a lot of people would be– elderly
- 25:21Speaker 1: would feel comfortable going there. And I think it's more
- 25:24Speaker 1: of a, I just think it's a bad decision. I
- 25:26Speaker 1: don't know what more to say about it.
- 25:28Speaker 4: My biggest concern is there's no easy way to get there.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Right.
- 25:32Speaker 4: It's not close to any major, you know, transportation artery.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Right.
- 25:36Speaker 4: And it's not just, like we said, it's not just
- 25:39Speaker 4: the people that live in the city of Youngstown. You
- 25:40Speaker 4: should be looking at the county as a whole.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Correct.
- 25:43Speaker 4: And doing what's best for the vast majority of county residents, which,
- 25:46Speaker 4: in my opinion, I agree with you, it's the Patriot Building.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Which are senior citizens, incidentally, the vast majority.
- 25:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:53Speaker 4: Yeah, and I mean, you still have plenty of transportation.
- 25:57Speaker 4: WRTA goes out to Austin Town, so anybody in the
- 26:00Speaker 4: city would have no problem hopping on a bus or calling,
- 26:04Speaker 4: you know, if you want to go vote and you
- 26:06Speaker 4: know you're going to do it, call WRTA. They offer
- 26:08Speaker 4: door-to-door transport, the last time I checked, which is astronomical
- 26:12Speaker 4: what it's costing them, but that's a whole different argument.
- 26:14Speaker 4: That's another agency that needs to be revamped top to bottom,
- 26:17Speaker 4: in my opinion.
- 26:18Speaker 1: I'll be the first guy to say I think that
- 26:20Speaker 1: that's an That's a good building down there. I think
- 26:22Speaker 1: that's plenty of land and it'd make a great board
- 26:25Speaker 1: of elections. And quite frankly, if it isn't a board
- 26:28Speaker 1: of elections, it would make great offices for the township
- 26:31Speaker 1: as they potentially outgrow their existing facility. That's probably too
- 26:35Speaker 1: small for them. Where could they make that function for
- 26:40Speaker 1: them in a better fashion? I mean, even if the
- 26:42Speaker 1: township looked at it for its future.
- 26:45Speaker 4: Well, like I said, you know, to me, you could
- 26:47Speaker 4: put the voting machines anywhere. I don't know, unless there's
- 26:49Speaker 4: a law that says they have to be kept under
- 26:51Speaker 4: board of election control and they, you know, monitor or
- 26:53Speaker 4: something like that. But I think if you just had
- 26:56Speaker 4: secure warehouse storage that was monitored, you know, video monitored
- 27:00Speaker 4: and stuff, you could, it wouldn't matter where you could
- 27:02Speaker 4: store them out in Goshen and green or in, you know,
- 27:05Speaker 4: on the country, if.
- 27:05Speaker 1: You want to just put it, I'm with you on this.
- 27:09Speaker 1: I don't, I don't disagree with you one bit. I mean, I,
- 27:13Speaker 1: Don't you find even the argument, will you sell it
- 27:15Speaker 1: to us for a dollar, then the Port Authority would
- 27:17Speaker 1: own it, and then we're going to give you a
- 27:19Speaker 1: 20-year lease? What do you mean a 20-year lease? Who's
- 27:21Speaker 1: going to own the building? Who are you paying rent to?
- 27:24Speaker 1: I mean, shouldn't the county own the building and maintain
- 27:26Speaker 1: the building?
- 27:29Speaker 4: Yeah, and I think the bigger issue is if you
- 27:32Speaker 4: look at a lot of these..
- 27:34Speaker 1: What about some of these closed-down schools, incidentally? Of course,
- 27:37Speaker 1: most of those are in residential neighborhoods, so that's not
- 27:40Speaker 1: always a good thing. But, I mean, we've got... What
- 27:42Speaker 1: about some of these closed down? Rich, I'm going to
- 27:46Speaker 1: tell you what drives me crazy. What absolutely drives me crazy.
- 27:50Speaker 1: I just saw it the other day. When a bank
- 27:53Speaker 1: closes and some other bank comes to the community, why
- 27:58Speaker 1: don't they just go buy an existing bank that's already
- 28:02Speaker 1: there in a vault in it and open there, as
- 28:06Speaker 1: opposed to ripping that down and building a new building
- 28:09Speaker 1: somewhere else that I just don't get it. I mean,
- 28:13Speaker 1: some of the stupid decisions I see business make as
- 28:16Speaker 1: far as just some of the dumb stuff that I
- 28:21Speaker 1: see them do. We've got plenty of old banks that
- 28:24Speaker 1: are sitting around. Not old banks, but ones that have closed.
- 28:30Speaker 4: The thing you're going to see, in my opinion, you're
- 28:33Speaker 4: already seeing with all the closed Rite-Aids, that left at least, what,
- 28:36Speaker 4: I think 25 or 30 buildings just in the county area.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Right.
- 28:42Speaker 4: You know, and you're probably..
- 28:43Speaker 1: Well, you got that one right in Cornersburg, a former
- 28:46Speaker 1: Rite Aid. That's getting wrecked, though.
- 28:49Speaker 4: You're putting the sheets over there.
- 28:51Speaker 1: Is that what they're doing?
- 28:52Speaker 4: Yeah, they're going to put the sheets over there. And
- 28:55Speaker 4: it's not a very big footprint, so I don't know
- 28:57Speaker 4: how they're going to shoehorn that in there, but that's
- 29:00Speaker 4: what I was told. The other thing I was told,
- 29:02Speaker 4: and I forgot to mention, I found this out a
- 29:04Speaker 4: couple weeks ago, is supposedly, I think, do you have
- 29:07Speaker 4: curbside recycling in Austin Town like Boardman and Poland have?
- 29:11Speaker 3: Yes.
- 29:11Speaker 4: But a lot of the county doesn't. Like, I live
- 29:13Speaker 4: out in Beaver. We have to take it to recycling
- 29:16Speaker 4: behind the Township Administration Building here. There's dumpsters you can
- 29:19Speaker 4: put recycling in. But I was told that countywide, supposedly
- 29:23Speaker 4: in the next year or two, we're going to have
- 29:24Speaker 4: curbside recycling across the county. which I haven't read anything about,
- 29:29Speaker 4: but I heard that was another thing that I heard
- 29:30Speaker 4: through the grapevine.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Well, you take a look at, I think I think
- 29:34Speaker 1: the busiest recycling center is the one at the 9-11
- 29:41Speaker 1: park in Austintown I mean it's huge the amount of
- 29:44Speaker 1: containers they have over there and they fill really fast
- 29:47Speaker 1: I think it's the busiest one.
- 29:50Speaker 4: My biggest complaint is within a day of them emptying
- 29:53Speaker 4: or two days at the most of them emptying, I
- 29:55Speaker 4: think we have eight of them in Beaver. New Middletown has,
- 29:58Speaker 4: I forget, I was over at my daughter's house, and
- 30:01Speaker 4: the ones here in Beaver were full. I went over
- 30:03Speaker 4: to New Middletown. They had, I think, 15 or 20
- 30:06Speaker 4: of them, and they were all full. So when you
- 30:08Speaker 4: don't have curbside, you know, residents do like to, people
- 30:11Speaker 4: do like to recycle. But those containers fill up very quickly.
- 30:15Speaker 4: So if they went to curbside, I think that would
- 30:16Speaker 4: be a big advantage.
- 30:17Speaker 1: It just shows you you've got to empty them more often,
- 30:19Speaker 1: because a lot of times people want to take boxes
- 30:21Speaker 1: and that kind of stuff there. But I don't know
- 30:23Speaker 1: if you've happened to see where recycling material was not
- 30:27Speaker 1: in huge demand over the years. Now, this might have
- 30:31Speaker 1: changed with the petroleum issue, and it might have changed
- 30:34Speaker 1: on plastics because of the situation going on with petroleum
- 30:38Speaker 1: and the straight being closed. But I believe that there's
- 30:44Speaker 1: now more of a demand for the plastic recycling. But
- 30:48Speaker 1: China stopped taking a lot of crap. I mean, did
- 30:51Speaker 1: you ever look at like recycled cardboard boxes? They're pretty crappy, actually.
- 30:57Speaker 1: They're not very good. And I was told several years
- 31:01Speaker 1: ago that a lot of places didn't want this stuff.
- 31:04Speaker 1: They didn't want all the cardboard. They didn't want any
- 31:07Speaker 1: of this stuff. So it's a big problem with getting
- 31:09Speaker 1: rid of it when China decided it didn't want to
- 31:11Speaker 1: take it anymore. And some of it, I was led
- 31:14Speaker 1: to believe, was just going to the landfill.
- 31:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I would love to see if there was ever
- 31:19Speaker 4: any investigation on that because my wife believes we're wasting
- 31:23Speaker 4: our time that most of it just gets dumped in
- 31:24Speaker 4: the landfill.
- 31:25Speaker 1: It wouldn't surprise me.
- 31:26Speaker 4: Most of the plastics, there's only about two or three. There's, what,
- 31:29Speaker 4: six or eight, ten types of plastic with those little
- 31:32Speaker 4: chasing arrow, that triangle tracing arrow recycling thing. But I
- 31:36Speaker 4: read somewhere that they only really recycle one or two
- 31:38Speaker 4: of them. If it's not like a soda bottle, a
- 31:41Speaker 4: water bottle.
- 31:44Speaker 1: My biggest, I guess my biggest criticism of the green
- 31:48Speaker 1: team is, is that I never hear from them, incidentally,
- 31:53Speaker 1: and they should call in and plug when they do
- 31:55Speaker 1: their recycling drives at the fairgrounds or whatever they do.
- 32:00Speaker 1: I don't think they advertise the things worth a damn,
- 32:02Speaker 1: quite frankly, to say, okay, you can bring up to
- 32:05Speaker 1: 10 tires at Covelli Center, the fairgrounds, or we're going
- 32:09Speaker 1: to take old refrigerators. I just don't think that they're
- 32:12Speaker 1: very effective at advertising these events so more of the
- 32:16Speaker 1: public knows that that they're going on. I fault the
- 32:20Speaker 1: green team for, in my opinion, piss poor marketing on
- 32:25Speaker 1: getting that information out to people of those recycling events.
- 32:29Speaker 1: I can go back when, I forget who the director
- 32:32Speaker 1: that was, I would always hear from them. And they
- 32:36Speaker 1: would either be running commercials on a station or they'd
- 32:38Speaker 1: be running commercials and calling in and mentioning to people
- 32:41Speaker 1: where these events were taking place. Because if somebody's got
- 32:45Speaker 1: a dehumidifier or a refrigerator or four tires in their garage.
- 32:50Speaker 1: It'd be nice to spread the.
- 32:51Speaker 4: Word about it. Another public agency that is poorly serving
- 32:57Speaker 4: its customers. Right. You know, the citizens it's supposed to serve.
- 33:01Speaker 4: And I think that's the biggest issue between government and
- 33:03Speaker 4: the private sector is the government needs to start When
- 33:08Speaker 4: you talked about George McKelvey, he always looked at people
- 33:10Speaker 4: calling him in with complaints as, that's my customer.
- 33:13Speaker 1: Correct.
- 33:13Speaker 4: Because he grew up in a retail environment, and that's
- 33:15Speaker 4: the way he was raised and taught.
- 33:18Speaker 2: Correct.
- 33:19Speaker 4: It would be so refreshing if we would start to
- 33:21Speaker 4: see that happen somewhat in government. whether it be from
- 33:26Speaker 4: the schools to the townships to the cities, the county,
- 33:29Speaker 4: all of them. They could all do a much better job,
- 33:32Speaker 4: in my opinion.
- 33:34Speaker 1: With that being said, I also can sit back and
- 33:37Speaker 1: I can say, from my perspective, I don't think that...
- 33:41Speaker 1: I live in Austintown Township. I think it's being run
- 33:44Speaker 1: fairly well. I don't have any complaints with my trustees
- 33:49Speaker 1: or how they're running a township. It seems like everything's
- 33:53Speaker 1: working pretty smoothly, and I don't see major concerns in
- 33:56Speaker 1: Boardman at this time. I mean, when you're talking, it
- 34:00Speaker 1: seems Boardman runs pretty smooth, and it seems Austintown is
- 34:03Speaker 1: running pretty smooth to me. I mean, I don't know
- 34:07Speaker 1: how else to assess it. I don't have any real...
- 34:11Speaker 1: complaints with boardman township or austin town.
- 34:16Speaker 4: Especially if you look at it from a revenue standpoint
- 34:18Speaker 4: because i guarantee you if you were to figure out
- 34:20Speaker 4: what austin town township was spending you know revenue per
- 34:23Speaker 4: resident that they're spending and then you look at some
- 34:26Speaker 4: of the place like the county or the city where
- 34:28Speaker 4: you know their revenue per resident is going to be
- 34:30Speaker 4: astronomically higher than what i think township government's pretty efficient.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Well, yeah.
- 34:36Speaker 1: I mean, they don't have a bunch of guys. I
- 34:39Speaker 1: think they had 9, 10, 11. They might have 12
- 34:42Speaker 1: or 13 people in the entire road department in a township. Well,
- 34:46Speaker 1: that's not a lot of people to plow your streets,
- 34:48Speaker 1: and they do really a decent job anymore. So the
- 34:53Speaker 1: road department's doing a pretty good job at dealing with
- 34:56Speaker 1: all the vacant properties. I can only tell you where
- 34:58Speaker 1: I live. They're dealing with foreclosures or people who don't
- 35:02Speaker 1: cut their grass. They're doing a good job on that.
- 35:04Speaker 1: They did a good job plowing the streets. They did
- 35:06Speaker 1: a good job at sweeping up whatever you do at
- 35:10Speaker 1: the end of winter, all the gravel.
- 35:12Speaker 7: On this news, weather, and talk station, 570 WKBN.
- 35:18Speaker 1: 455 on a Tuesday afternoon, May 26th, 80 degrees. Ron
- 35:21Speaker 1: Furb from the Kingdom of Mahoning, and you're on the air.
- 35:23Speaker 8: Good afternoon, Ron. Thanks for taking my call, buddy.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Good to hear your voice.
- 35:27Speaker 8: Hey, I'll be quick. I know you've got to run.
- 35:31Speaker 8: One thing, they started with the free house on my
- 35:34Speaker 8: street today, so that's something to look forward to.
- 35:37Speaker 1: The what house?
- 35:38Speaker 8: The free house. You know, you get them for $ 150,
- 35:40Speaker 8: but they cost $ 450.
- 35:41Speaker 1: Oh, you mean when they're building a... That program doesn't
- 35:46Speaker 1: make a lick of sense to me. Let's see. We're
- 35:48Speaker 1: going to build a $ 300, 000 house, but we're going to
- 35:50Speaker 1: sell it for $ 180, 000.
- 35:51Speaker 8: Hey, I'm retired, Ron. I'll learn how to build a
- 35:55Speaker 8: house now from scratch.
- 35:57Speaker 1: There you go.
- 35:58Speaker 8: The other thing is Rich is right about the sheets
- 36:00Speaker 8: in Cornersburg.
- 36:01Speaker 4: Oh, really?
- 36:02Speaker 8: Yeah, and I don't see how that's going to support it.
- 36:04Speaker 8: I grew up in Cornersburg. But there was at one
- 36:07Speaker 8: time six gas stations in Cornersburg. But I can't see
- 36:11Speaker 8: them supporting a place that big. But to get back
- 36:15Speaker 8: to what I called for yesterday, Memorial Day, where we're
- 36:19Speaker 8: supposed to remember our soldiers. Three people on my street
- 36:23Speaker 8: had flags on them. on their house. And that really
- 36:26Speaker 8: makes me mad. That really does. There happened a barbecue,
- 36:32Speaker 8: having family over, and that family can't go out and
- 36:36Speaker 8: buy a flag and put it on their house to
- 36:38Speaker 8: represent the fallen soldiers, to give them that right to
- 36:41Speaker 8: do that. And that's just a veteran. No veteran likes that.
- 36:46Speaker 8: A veteran likes when he's driving his car, seeing the
- 36:48Speaker 8: people with their flags. That means that means something to them.
- 36:52Speaker 8: That means we were in a service for something. So
- 36:56Speaker 8: that was my rant and rave today.
- 36:59Speaker 1: Well, you are correct. I think people pause and think
- 37:04Speaker 1: about the meaning of Memorial Day in addition to enjoying
- 37:07Speaker 1: their family and their freedom and potato salad. How's that?
- 37:14Speaker 8: That's fine, Ron. So let me get back to watching
- 37:16Speaker 8: how to build a house, and maybe every now and
- 37:18Speaker 8: then I'll give you a call and give you the
- 37:20Speaker 8: progress report.
- 37:21Speaker 1: Maybe you could buy it. Maybe you could move up
- 37:23Speaker 1: and say, hey, you probably wouldn't qualify.
- 37:25Speaker 8: No, I don't have a house. I don't know. They'd
- 37:28Speaker 8: throw me out.
- 37:29Speaker 1: There you go. There you go. Take care, buddy.
- 37:31Speaker 9: Thanks.
- 37:32Speaker 1: I don't understand that program. I just don't understand it.
- 37:35Speaker 1: But it's there. They didn't ask me whether or not
- 37:38Speaker 1: I think it's a good idea, but I mean, So
- 37:41Speaker 1: the house costs this much to build, but we're going
- 37:43Speaker 1: to sell it for a loss. But yet, for you
- 37:48Speaker 1: in the suburbs, you've got to pay the full boat
- 37:51Speaker 1: if you want us to build your house. Isn't that
- 37:53Speaker 1: the way it's supposed to be? That's how it worked
- 37:55Speaker 1: when I built mine. You're on the air.
- 37:58Speaker 3: Hello, Ron.
- 37:59Speaker 2: I'd like to share a little bit of an article
- 38:01Speaker 2: I got from Newsweek magazine today about America's oil reserve.
- 38:05Speaker 2: America's emergency oil reserve is shrinking fast. America oil stockpiles
- 38:12Speaker 2: are shrinking rapidly.
- 38:13Speaker 3: U.S.
- 38:14Speaker 2: Crude inventories posting consecutive weekly declines. Exports surging. The country
- 38:19Speaker 2: drawing down from its emergency supplies to offset the impact
- 38:23Speaker 2: of the war with Iran and global energy markets. If
- 38:27Speaker 2: this continues on much longer, I think you're going to
- 38:29Speaker 2: see fuel shortages and rationing gasoline in our country pretty soon.
- 38:34Speaker 2: It might be wise to store up some food in
- 38:37Speaker 2: case you're stuck at home for a while. But I
- 38:40Speaker 2: thought I'd share that with you.
- 38:42Speaker 1: I had just read where they were saying it could
- 38:46Speaker 1: be more difficult to... Well, stand by for me. Hang on, okay?
- 38:50Speaker 1: I want to come back to you. I mean, he's
- 38:51Speaker 1: bringing up a good point. I want to pursue it
- 38:53Speaker 1: with him and more when we return.
- 39:00Speaker 5: From ABC News, I'm Chuck Sievertson. A chemical explosion at
- 39:04Speaker 5: a pulp and paper mill in Longview, Washington, leaves over
- 39:07Speaker 5: 10 people injured and more than one dead, say fire officials.
- 39:11Speaker 6: The injuries range from critical to minor, and searches have
- 39:14Speaker 6: been underway for missing workers at the pulp and paper mill.
- 39:17Speaker 6: A tank imploded that was filled with a compound used
- 39:20Speaker 6: in the papermaking process. Fire Chief Scott Goldstein says there
- 39:24Speaker 6: is no further risk.
- 39:25Speaker 5: Crews from our agencies have looked at the hazardous materials
- 39:29Speaker 5: component as well as the structural concerns.
- 39:31Speaker 8: That is why we are saying the incident is now stable.
- 39:34Speaker 1: Emergency operations at the site are ongoing. Alex Stone, EBC News.
- 39:38Speaker 5: They cooled down the damaged chemical tank and eliminated the
- 39:41Speaker 5: chance of a major explosion, say fire officials in Orange County, California,
- 39:45Speaker 5: at the military aircraft factory. But there's still a chance
- 39:48Speaker 5: of a leak or smaller blast. So not all evacuation
- 39:51Speaker 5: orders are lifted. Orange County Fire Captain Weihao Wang.
- 39:55Speaker 6: The plan is to continue to have our crews working
- 39:57Speaker 6: on the ground just to assess the situation and to
- 40:00Speaker 6: continue to work on mitigating what's going on at Tank 1.
- 40:04Speaker 5: A major rebuff to an effort promoted by President Trump
- 40:08Speaker 5: for the midterm elections. A proposed South Carolina congressional map
- 40:12Speaker 5: that could have allowed Republicans to flip the seat held
- 40:14Speaker 5: by Democratic Rep.
- 40:15Speaker 1: Jim Clyburn.
- 40:16Speaker 5: Has been killed by the Republican-controlled state Senate. It voted
- 40:20Speaker 5: to go home until after June primaries without action on
- 40:22Speaker 5: the map. Earlier today, Clyburn criticized the map effort.
- 40:26Speaker 9: 43% of the voters should have zero representation. That is
- 40:33Speaker 9: a challenge to the goodness of South Carolinians.
- 40:38Speaker 5: It happened the same day a three-judge panel in a
- 40:40Speaker 5: federal court in Alabama ruled unanimously... that state Republicans are
- 40:44Speaker 5: still blocked from using their 2023 congressional map and appeals planned.
- 40:49Speaker 5: President Trump on social media says during today's six-month physical,
- 40:53Speaker 5: everything checked out perfectly. You're listening to ABC News.
