- 0:01Speaker 1: NBA basketball fans, Welcome back to the NBA Playoff Banter Podcast.
- 0:09Speaker 1: It's been a short time. Now we call it basketball
- 0:14Speaker 1: is over. Obviously, Florida got the job done there. I'm
- 0:19Speaker 1: sure my co host Marshall was loving that comeback that
- 0:24Speaker 1: Houston did on Duke. Then it kind of happened right
- 0:27Speaker 1: to them. Florida was like the comeback kids really throughout
- 0:29Speaker 1: the tournament. Anyway, we are now in full swing. As
- 0:33Speaker 1: we know, every series is at one to zero. We're
- 0:38Speaker 1: just talking about it before we hit record, even before
- 0:42Speaker 1: you know, the first game of all these series. For
- 0:44Speaker 1: me anyway, it kind of felt like a few of
- 0:46Speaker 1: these will go at least game six. Maybe we get
- 0:49Speaker 1: lucky and get more than one, just game seven. And
- 0:56Speaker 1: then now that you see game one, whether it's pace,
- 1:00Speaker 1: you know, whatever, you know, how much do you really
- 1:04Speaker 1: take out of you know, the game one in series?
- 1:08Speaker 1: Obviously statistically it's an important game, especially for the home
- 1:13Speaker 1: team percentage wise. We know Game three and Game five
- 1:18Speaker 1: are huge games beyond of course a tide series and
- 1:21Speaker 1: you have to win game seven. But yeah, we're gonna
- 1:24Speaker 1: break all the series down preview and predict them and
- 1:29Speaker 1: just kind of looking at when our next show will
- 1:32Speaker 1: be based off, you know, the first round. They always
- 1:35Speaker 1: spread it out so much so every game can be televised.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I think Monday, next Monday will be It'll be a
- 1:44Speaker 1: perfect time to kind of fit in there and have
- 1:46Speaker 1: another show. That is one thing about this show. Usually
- 1:49Speaker 1: the College Ball Show, whether it's football or basketball, is
- 1:53Speaker 1: every Monday. For the most part, this show is a
- 1:56Speaker 1: lot of Monday. Sometimes it could be a Tuesday night.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Sometimes it could be asday night. We try to do
- 2:02Speaker 1: them Mondays, but we go off how the series are
- 2:04Speaker 1: going in that type of thing, so you know, before
- 2:10Speaker 1: we get into previewing, predictions and debate and all that
- 2:13Speaker 1: good stuff. If this is your first time listening to

- 3:34Speaker 1: ninety nine for the first three months. Okay, let's go
- 3:39Speaker 1: ahead and bring in my co host Marshall. First and foremost, Marshall,
- 3:43Speaker 1: how are you doing, sir. It's a gorgeous spring day
- 3:47Speaker 1: here in Minneapolis. I'm ready to talk to some hoops. Man.
- 3:51Speaker 1: We had a little time off since the National Championship,
- 3:54Speaker 1: but now we're in full NBA playoff mode.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Feels good, man. It's actually been a beautiful day down
- 4:02Speaker 2: in Texas too, Probably in like the low seventies is
- 4:04Speaker 2: like a little bit of wind, it's it's been nice.
- 4:06Speaker 2: So we got a softball playoff game this week, so
- 4:09Speaker 2: hopefully we advanced into the first round. And just a
- 4:13Speaker 2: fun fact, Chris, the softball team named Melissa, a town
- 4:17Speaker 2: in Texas is like an hour north th and he
- 4:19Speaker 2: I drove through it this weekend. Is the number one
- 4:23Speaker 2: ranked team in the country in softball. Not Texas, but
- 4:26Speaker 2: in the country Melissa. So if we were to somehow
- 4:30Speaker 2: by chance upset a school who's really good and playing
- 4:33Speaker 2: Melissa third round, yeah, we're not gonna beat them. They
- 4:35Speaker 2: have a freshman who can go pla any where she wants,
- 4:37Speaker 2: and they have a sophomore shortstop going to like Florida
- 4:41Speaker 2: and other girls going to like A and M. So yeah, Melissa,
- 4:44Speaker 2: Texas best softball team in the country. Yeah, don't. I
- 4:48Speaker 2: don't want to play them. I love our kids. We
- 4:52Speaker 2: don't need that. But aside from that, yeah, hey, it's
- 4:55Speaker 2: NBA playoff season. Man, it's a good time of the
- 4:59Speaker 2: sports here. You got NBA plays, got basketball playoffs, got
- 5:01Speaker 2: baseball goat, you got golf coin. It's just it's you know,
- 5:04Speaker 2: NFL drafts this week. It's a beautiful time to talk
- 5:06Speaker 2: sports with you. My friend, beautiful time, and uh, I
- 5:09Speaker 2: was wondering, could we get one of our jerseys retired
- 5:12Speaker 2: on the show at the end of this year, because
- 5:14Speaker 2: you know, we've been doing it for quite a while now,
- 5:15Speaker 2: it's become a thing now to get jerseys retired apparently,
- 5:17Speaker 2: so can I get like a crafty vet jersey hung
- 5:20Speaker 2: up on some wall for our podcast for the decade
- 5:23Speaker 2: we've done it? I was just a random thought I had.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I don't see why not. I think
- 5:28Speaker 1: it's been over It's probably been what since twenty twelve
- 5:32Speaker 1: or something we started doing the the NBA thing. Yeah,
- 5:36Speaker 1: I think we're exact same, but it's been a while.
- 5:39Speaker 2: That's uh huh.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Where do you want to start? You want to start
- 5:44Speaker 1: east or west?
- 5:45Speaker 2: My friend, Let's let's actually let's start east for the Apaptizers,
- 5:49Speaker 2: because we both had teams we love in the west.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Let's start east, bro, let's go east.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Let's go east. And you know, going on as we speak,
- 5:58Speaker 1: is the Pistons and the Knicks, you know, on the
- 6:04Speaker 1: surface coming to this puppy. Yeah, I kind of looked
- 6:08Speaker 1: at it like this can be competitive. You know, the
- 6:10Speaker 1: Knicks in their starting lineup. Man, it is a damn
- 6:13Speaker 1: good starting lineup, but as me know, the depth they do,
- 6:17Speaker 1: they're lacked thereof. They don't have a lot of depth.
- 6:20Speaker 1: And down the stretch they finally did a good team,
- 6:23Speaker 1: but against the top teams they faltered. Now I'm not
- 6:26Speaker 1: trying to say the Detroit basketball Pistons are a top
- 6:31Speaker 1: team like that, but they're a rising team and they
- 6:36Speaker 1: have one of the best young players point forward who's
- 6:41Speaker 1: really coming to his own. You know. With Detroit, though,
- 6:46Speaker 1: the only thing is like where can they get that
- 6:49Speaker 1: consistent scoring? It's almost halftime. It's fifty two to forty seven,
- 6:54Speaker 1: or at least that's what it says on ESPN. Sometimes
- 6:57Speaker 1: that can be you know, far behind the game, so
- 7:02Speaker 1: you know, maybe it's a little different score, but it's
- 7:04Speaker 1: right there. And when you look at that first game,
- 7:10Speaker 1: you know, Detroit played really good. Man. You know, the
- 7:13Speaker 1: star Kade didn't really play all that well. He had
- 7:17Speaker 1: some turnovers he normally doesn't do. But they were playing
- 7:21Speaker 1: great through three quarters. Then they had a meltdown and
- 7:24Speaker 1: it was like some sort of twenty three to two
- 7:29Speaker 1: run or something like that. I believe the Knicks put
- 7:33Speaker 1: up forty in that last quarter. Defensive plays really stood out.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Kat made a couple of and pushing the ball that
- 7:44Speaker 1: they just they took it over. They took over the game.
- 7:49Speaker 1: But you know, you look at those first three quarters
- 7:52Speaker 1: and it kind of, you know, how much do we
- 7:55Speaker 1: take out of Game One's right, That's kind of the
- 7:57Speaker 1: question that we have here with these series. Going into this,
- 8:01Speaker 1: I thought it would be about a six game series.
- 8:04Speaker 1: I really thought Detroit could give him. I don't think ultimately,
- 8:07Speaker 1: I think they have a scoring issue, but you know,
- 8:12Speaker 1: they just they just had a meltdown with a team
- 8:15Speaker 1: that hasn't been together that long and this is their
- 8:19Speaker 1: first taste of playoffs. And Kate Cunningham, you know, started
- 8:24Speaker 1: I was watching a little bit of it before we
- 8:26Speaker 1: hit record. He was already had like ten or twelve
- 8:30Speaker 1: points early. He made some plays that weren't his normal play,
- 8:36Speaker 1: I'd say. But other than that, I think this is
- 8:40Speaker 1: gonna be a good series, and I felt like it
- 8:42Speaker 1: was gonna go six. Obviously, if the Pistons could make
- 8:46Speaker 1: it one one here, there's a great chance of it
- 8:48Speaker 1: going six, it maybe even more. What are your thoughts
- 8:51Speaker 1: on this matchup? You have an inexperienced team going against
- 8:56Speaker 1: the team really full of veterans and some of the
- 9:00Speaker 1: corre has played together either way, bringing in towns. You know,
- 9:04Speaker 1: he obviously has played a lot of playoffs now in
- 9:06Speaker 1: the last few years.
- 9:09Speaker 2: So my my first thing, I get first question asking okay,
- 9:13Speaker 2: this isn't a trick one. Okay, like.
- 9:17Speaker 1: No, no, no, a couple of weeks he's already started.
- 9:21Speaker 2: This is just an initial off off the wall question. Okay,
- 9:24Speaker 2: But so let me ask you because obviously, as you
- 9:27Speaker 2: said Detroit, hey, a couple of years ago. I know,
- 9:29Speaker 2: the team's obviously changed over a couple of years, but
- 9:30Speaker 2: a couple of years ago, this was like a doormat franchise.
- 9:33Speaker 2: They lost like twenty games in a row. They had
- 9:35Speaker 2: to like beat Boston not to set the all time record.
- 9:39Speaker 2: What what is it going into the series, because obviously
- 9:42Speaker 2: it is still brand new and they're about to go
- 9:43Speaker 2: up in half. That that intrigues you to make thinking
- 9:46Speaker 2: goes six because a lot of times when you do
- 9:48Speaker 2: have a younger team, Chris, it is he to say, hey, dude,
- 9:53Speaker 2: gentlemen sweep. Gentlemen sweep, because I've heard some people. You know,
- 9:56Speaker 2: obviously the next had for goodyear. So my my question
- 10:00Speaker 2: is like, besides Cunningham, what is it that gives you
- 10:02Speaker 2: a little sense of intrigue that you think they can
- 10:04Speaker 2: make the Knicks have to fight for this series? Is
- 10:07Speaker 2: my question.
- 10:10Speaker 1: I just don't believe in the Knicks defensively, even though
- 10:15Speaker 1: that's just sparked them. So I think that on one hand,
- 10:22Speaker 1: I don't believe in them defensively per se in their death.
- 10:26Speaker 1: It's it's lacking, right, yes, And then not that I
- 10:30Speaker 1: believe in the other weapons. I mean, they have some
- 10:34Speaker 1: guys that can score, but not not. I don't believe
- 10:37Speaker 1: in the offense of you know, greatness of Detroit or anything.
- 10:43Speaker 1: But I just thought they'd probably score more than they
- 10:46Speaker 1: normally I think they. I thought they'd achieve a little
- 10:49Speaker 1: bit more on offense because of the lack of depth
- 10:53Speaker 1: and some of the in between defense. So the Knicks,
- 10:57Speaker 1: you know, I don't know. I just I just don't
- 11:01Speaker 1: think they're that deep. To be honest with you, I don't,
- 11:04Speaker 1: I in no form will think that they were gonna
- 11:08Speaker 1: lose the series. But I just thought that they're probably
- 11:13Speaker 1: gonna have to grind out a lot of these games,
- 11:16Speaker 1: and if offense isn't going then what But I liked
- 11:21Speaker 1: what I stopped through three quarters. I like what I've
- 11:23Speaker 1: seen through two quarters already from Detroit, but that that's
- 11:27Speaker 1: probably what it is. You're gonna give your take on it.
- 11:29Speaker 1: You got more questions about.
- 11:30Speaker 2: It, I gotta take radio getting fired up more. I'm
- 11:36Speaker 2: I'm about to get a yellow card, guys, the yellow card
- 11:38Speaker 2: as we hit all the sports spectrums today.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Yeah. I don't mean to over overdo Detroit, you know,
- 11:46Speaker 1: but I gotta admit at the beginning of the year,
- 11:50Speaker 1: the Timberwolves have a Detroit first round pick, and I
- 11:54Speaker 1: didn't think we could cash it in this year. And
- 11:57Speaker 1: here we are, We we have a first round pick now.
- 12:00Speaker 1: So I they overachieved, So I figured they overachieved on
- 12:03Speaker 1: the season, so I figured they could overachieve in this series,
- 12:08Speaker 1: meaning pushing it a little bit more.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Well, just for looking off like veter experience. Obviously, Detroit
- 12:14Speaker 2: as a team again a couple of years they were
- 12:16Speaker 2: really bad. So first off, half off to them because
- 12:19Speaker 2: you finished the year above five hundred and you you're
- 12:22Speaker 2: going to the playoffs. Like I don't think many Detroit
- 12:24Speaker 2: Pistons fans probably saw that coming. Like Kate Cunningham is
- 12:28Speaker 2: having a tremendous year and he's a only getting better.
- 12:32Speaker 1: He's, like, legit, a top ten player. I feel right
- 12:35Speaker 1: now he's quit there.
- 12:37Speaker 2: And yeah, so he's and he's obviously the large reason
- 12:40Speaker 2: why they're there, right you know. Then you have Dannis Shruder,
- 12:45Speaker 2: who is a guy who has veter experience, and then
- 12:48Speaker 2: so does MILNK Beasley, and then you also Harris. You know,
- 12:52Speaker 2: so I think the combination of Kate Cunningham, who's a
- 12:56Speaker 2: special kid for the franchise, and then be Lee Shrewder
- 13:00Speaker 2: and Tobias Harris all playoff experience. So this isn't your
- 13:04Speaker 2: typical regular NBA team where you kind of grow and
- 13:07Speaker 2: develop from within because all three of those guys have
- 13:09Speaker 2: been playing well before Detroit was back in the playoffs.
- 13:12Speaker 2: You know, so you've kind of you've kind of wrangled
- 13:18Speaker 2: together a bunch of vets or maybe like have been
- 13:20Speaker 2: like the the third or fourth best guys in their team.
- 13:24Speaker 2: But in fairness, if you don't have the draft picks
- 13:26Speaker 2: in pod to do it like some school like not
- 13:28Speaker 2: schools like some teams do, it's on a back clute.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Tim Hardaway Junior again, do you has a lot of
- 13:33Speaker 2: playoff experience so you kind of have a hodgepodge of
- 13:35Speaker 2: like four veterans who were all pretty pretty good. Like
- 13:39Speaker 2: they're legit NBA players. They're maybe not like a one
- 13:42Speaker 2: or two star. They're not like We're not in like
- 13:43Speaker 2: the the Kevin Durant, you know, Jannis, like Dame David
- 13:47Speaker 2: lod They're not like a superstar eight. But like all
- 13:49Speaker 2: for of those guys I said are all like good vets.
- 13:52Speaker 2: So maybe that combination of them with Jalen Durant and
- 13:56Speaker 2: Hart Cunningham has just been at the right piece. Now
- 14:01Speaker 2: to your counterpoint of meant what you said about the Knicks,
- 14:05Speaker 2: all you gotta do is google who's their head coach
- 14:07Speaker 2: and Thibodeau like this is falling the sword, lived by
- 14:10Speaker 2: the sword, dieing the sword. Like the dude does really
- 14:13Speaker 2: like to have a bench, and that's the way he rolls.
- 14:16Speaker 2: He he probably has his starters play the most minutes
- 14:19Speaker 2: on average per year than anyone else. So when you
- 14:21Speaker 2: did say a bench, yeah, so when you said, you know.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Well, hey, yeah, actually I thought they had a good bench.
- 14:32Speaker 1: I think they proved they had a good bench last
- 14:34Speaker 1: year because they got hurt and still managed to be
- 14:37Speaker 1: pretty competitive in the playoffs.
- 14:40Speaker 2: True, but in general, if this guy, if this guy's
- 14:43Speaker 2: got a healthy starting five, you're maybe going to rotate
- 14:47Speaker 2: seven guys in the game, sometimes six. I mean, hell,
- 14:49Speaker 2: right now, so far you've had I mean, i'll tell
- 14:51Speaker 2: you first half, but Mitchell Robbinson came off the bench
- 14:54Speaker 2: and he got Cameron Payn four minutes, McBride six, Schmidt five,
- 14:59Speaker 2: Like Thibodeau, has just never been a guy that has
- 15:02Speaker 2: a lot of depth. So to your point, if you
- 15:04Speaker 2: kind of have a shorter bench and you have some
- 15:06Speaker 2: defensive laws and you're just not maybe as a well
- 15:10Speaker 2: round team, why can't a team like Detroit, who has
- 15:12Speaker 2: a lot of veteran players with some young stars give
- 15:15Speaker 2: them a fight. I'm I'm I'm gonna go nix and five.
- 15:20Speaker 2: I think that's one of those growing pain things where
- 15:22Speaker 2: maybe just Detroit's gotta learn to win just a little bit.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Even if they do have those vets. You're kind of
- 15:28Speaker 2: just trying to compile a team. But I will say
- 15:30Speaker 2: this for Detroit, I don't know their contract situation, but hey,
- 15:34Speaker 2: you're in the playoffs now, you did not play in
- 15:36Speaker 2: the playing situations. You're you're a top six seed. I
- 15:39Speaker 2: think this is intriguing for them, and even if they
- 15:42Speaker 2: do get bounced out, or maybe maybe hell, maybe they
- 15:44Speaker 2: do win this series. Whatever it is, this team is
- 15:47Speaker 2: something to build on because again, a couple of years ago,
- 15:49Speaker 2: you lose twenty games in a row, and now you're
- 15:51Speaker 2: in a playoff series. You've been up at half, like
- 15:53Speaker 2: in your Game two on the road. So I think
- 15:56Speaker 2: they're going the right way. I'm just gonna shave off
- 15:59Speaker 2: a game and I'll say Nixon five and but hey,
- 16:02Speaker 2: I hope cut you improves me wrong, because a lot
- 16:05Speaker 2: of times it does seem Chris. When we do the
- 16:06Speaker 2: NBA Playoffs show, the first round, a lot of times
- 16:09Speaker 2: can be pretty quick. Okay. I know we'll always do
- 16:11Speaker 2: predictions and be like, oh, dude, we got I remember
- 16:14Speaker 2: last year they we predicted three game sevens in round one.
- 16:17Speaker 2: I think we only got one or something like that.
- 16:19Speaker 2: You don't get a little greedy, you want the game seven.
- 16:21Speaker 2: It don't occur. But yeah, I'm intrigued though. In Detroit, Dude,
- 16:25Speaker 2: it's fun to see him good again. I think that's
- 16:27Speaker 2: good for the sport of basketball with Detroit's better at basketball.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think it's either their top five or
- 16:34Speaker 1: top six players are in the top twenty minutes, pretty sure.
- 16:39Speaker 2: So yeah, mill shock right there, man, That's that's how
- 16:44Speaker 2: the dude rolls.
- 16:46Speaker 1: And obviously to have it go six or even seven,
- 16:50Speaker 1: I guess, but he even have to go six. I
- 16:52Speaker 1: did kind of bank on them winning one on the road,
- 16:55Speaker 1: so they would they would definitely have to win tonight
- 16:59Speaker 1: to make that happen. But we both have the next
- 17:03Speaker 1: movie on in that series, the Pacers in Milwaukee. You know,
- 17:07Speaker 1: they've had a nice little rivalry going on. We hear
- 17:12Speaker 1: Dame Lillard is now off the blood thing medication. I
- 17:17Speaker 1: saw the other day. He's up to questionable. Maybe he's
- 17:22Speaker 1: gonna be probable here. They definitely need him offensively, you know, defensively,
- 17:27Speaker 1: we know Dame's not the best there, but offensively they
- 17:32Speaker 1: need them because Victarean Prince had zero points. Kuzma, Kuzma
- 17:39Speaker 1: had zero points. He was zero of five, just didn't
- 17:44Speaker 1: do a whole lot. They had multiple they had two guys,
- 17:48Speaker 1: three guys off the bench. Some of it was late probably,
- 17:51Speaker 1: but they had three guys off the bench go double
- 17:53Speaker 1: digits and two starters have zero points. And mind you,
- 18:00Speaker 1: that's twenty minutes and twenty two minutes, So it's not
- 18:03Speaker 1: like that got in there for nine minutes or something
- 18:05Speaker 1: like that. So I gotta say on paper, hearing that
- 18:12Speaker 1: Lillard was gonna play in the series, at some point
- 18:17Speaker 1: a few days ago, I thought this was gonna be
- 18:20Speaker 1: a series. Hey man, you know, we might be able
- 18:22Speaker 1: to like. Milwaukee's not the team they were a couple
- 18:26Speaker 1: of years ago, but there's they still got a lot
- 18:29Speaker 1: of talent. Really, you know what I mean? You can
- 18:32Speaker 1: make an argument, should they brought Kool's money in and
- 18:35Speaker 1: did they give up on Milton? And you know that's yep.
- 18:38Speaker 1: And then you know Holiday not long ago either, if
- 18:41Speaker 1: you think about it, you know they got rid of
- 18:43Speaker 1: him two years ago. So you know, I don't believe
- 18:49Speaker 1: in Milwaukee. I just don't want to disrespect him. But
- 18:55Speaker 1: maybe he doesn't even play in this next game, then
- 18:57Speaker 1: you're a you know, maybe in Milwaukee Game three it happens.
- 19:01Speaker 1: I don't know, but obviously Giannis needs help. And this
- 19:07Speaker 1: pacer team, whether it's the starters, the bench, a mixt
- 19:10Speaker 1: year of it, they just go, go, go, go go.
- 19:14Speaker 1: And they returned a lot of talent from last year
- 19:17Speaker 1: and they went deep yes, you could say. They played
- 19:20Speaker 1: the Knicks and some other teams that weren't as banged up,
- 19:23Speaker 1: and obviously people were saying that about the Celtics too.
- 19:26Speaker 1: They kind of got lucky with that, and then they
- 19:29Speaker 1: proved how dominantive team they were once they went against
- 19:32Speaker 1: the healthy, you know, Mavericks last year, the team that
- 19:35Speaker 1: just doesn't exist anymore. So I really like I think Indiana,
- 19:42Speaker 1: I really like their their pace. They just fricke it,
- 19:45Speaker 1: pushed the ball. Unfortunately. My Timbril said to learn the
- 19:52Speaker 1: hard way. Actually to both of these teams. Milwaukee, they
- 19:59Speaker 1: let one slide majorly down the freshoint. You know what's
- 20:04Speaker 1: funny about that stat the up by twenty four or whatever.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Only two times did a team come back from twenty
- 20:15Speaker 1: four this year, and both of them involved the Timberwolves.
- 20:18Speaker 1: One they gave up one to Milwaukee and two they
- 20:23Speaker 1: did it to Okay c The Timberwolves did it to them,
- 20:27Speaker 1: So it's kind of weird that they were involved in
- 20:29Speaker 1: both of those games. But to put it to Indiana,
- 20:35Speaker 1: they lost to Indiana with like three or four of
- 20:38Speaker 1: their starters out, and then they got beat pretty cleanly
- 20:42Speaker 1: a couple of games after that, when they brought and
- 20:44Speaker 1: got their starters back, but just the experience they had
- 20:48Speaker 1: for making to the conference final, and they did get
- 20:51Speaker 1: better at defense.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Man.
- 20:53Speaker 1: So I really like this Pacers team, and I think
- 20:56Speaker 1: they add to the depth along with the Cavs and
- 20:59Speaker 1: maybe even the next for Boston at least have some
- 21:04Speaker 1: interesting series before they get to the finals, which a
- 21:08Speaker 1: lot of people just assume they will. What's your thoughts overall,
- 21:12Speaker 1: because you're honest, he did his thing, but man, you
- 21:17Speaker 1: know it was it was like, hey, is anybody else
- 21:20Speaker 1: gonna show up, especially in the starting lineup.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Yeah, to see I don't know, I don't know, I
- 21:27Speaker 2: don't know. I don't have the AI tool to google
- 21:29Speaker 2: it quickly. But to see a playoff game where two
- 21:32Speaker 2: of your starters don't score, that that has to be
- 21:35Speaker 2: maybe the first time, and like I would say, maybe
- 21:37Speaker 2: a decade, Like I don't you know, you just don't
- 21:41Speaker 2: see Goose eggs and the dudes played twenty minutes and
- 21:43Speaker 2: twenty two but Delia shot the ball collectively six times
- 21:47Speaker 2: and they were over six. I don't toyan Prince shot
- 21:50Speaker 2: the ball once, Kuzma five times.
- 21:52Speaker 1: That's crazy in one in twenty minutes one shot in
- 21:55Speaker 1: Prince usually it'll put the ball up, you know.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Yeah, so I don't know. But also you also have
- 22:02Speaker 2: Doc Rivers, who for the track director. Besides his title
- 22:05Speaker 2: in Boston is not exactly one of them. He's he's
- 22:09Speaker 2: had a tough playoff resume in his career. Besides when
- 22:11Speaker 2: he at that time when he's in Boston getting that rate,
- 22:15Speaker 2: see you factor in that, you factor in that again,
- 22:17Speaker 2: as you mentioned it was we said together, uh, Middleton gone,
- 22:21Speaker 2: Drew hall Day gone, Like those are two really good
- 22:24Speaker 2: basketball players. Shrew hall Day was a huge FMP to
- 22:26Speaker 2: help in Boston in that title. Middle that dude was
- 22:31Speaker 2: still a top twenty, top twenty player in the NBA
- 22:34Speaker 2: when when he's healthier, top thirty, like he's he's a
- 22:36Speaker 2: hell of a good guard.
- 22:38Speaker 1: So I remember when Giannis would be out, you know,
- 22:41Speaker 1: and both of those guys would go off. Middleton would
- 22:43Speaker 1: just go off.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Dude. Yeah. So now you have Ryan Rawlins and Torrian Prince,
- 22:50Speaker 2: like those names just don't hit the same. Now, Bobby Portois,
- 22:55Speaker 2: that dude's been a really special good six man for
- 22:58Speaker 2: the last five years. Very out the playoff player, he
- 23:01Speaker 2: scored four points, so you know, When Gary Trent Junior
- 23:06Speaker 2: is your team's second leading score in the playoff game,
- 23:11Speaker 2: that's an issue or sorry third A J Green dropped
- 23:13Speaker 2: Fife down. I don't even know who the hell is
- 23:15Speaker 2: AJ Green.
- 23:15Speaker 1: So if you're Awaukee wide receiver for Georgia.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, ok, yeah yeah, so hey the Bucks,
- 23:24Speaker 2: get your hands full. And no, obviously, if wild comes
- 23:26Speaker 2: back healthy, that's a game changer. But if you look
- 23:29Speaker 2: at the Indiana roster same as last year, that team's
- 23:33Speaker 2: nasty and they probably they had a great playoff run
- 23:38Speaker 2: last year and the injuries halping. But shit, if Klay
- 23:40Speaker 2: Thompson doesn't tear his ACL, I think we'd beat I
- 23:42Speaker 2: think we win the ring against Milwaukee or against front
- 23:45Speaker 2: and we have another ring on the finger. Like part
- 23:48Speaker 2: of playoff basketball's injuries. Man sometimes helps your team, Sometimes
- 23:51Speaker 2: it doesn't. It does suck as hell. Maybe if Kyrie
- 23:53Speaker 2: doesn't get hurt, maybe Lebron beats the Warriors first year.
- 23:56Speaker 2: You never know, so that luck does occur every year,
- 23:59Speaker 2: but it's part of basketball. You gotta pray that your
- 24:02Speaker 2: team that you love and cheer for stays healthy. And
- 24:06Speaker 2: obviously I'm no one ever prayers for injuries than any
- 24:08Speaker 2: other team. But you know, it's just it's a it's
- 24:10Speaker 2: a wild card. Uh but even if they were a
- 24:13Speaker 2: little bit lucky, that's now in their DNA. So as
- 24:15Speaker 2: I was saying, you know, Detroit's got to work out
- 24:18Speaker 2: of having a good playoff experience. The Pacers got something
- 24:20Speaker 2: and they had a lot of good experience last year
- 24:22Speaker 2: and positive. So yeah, that team, I don't I don't
- 24:26Speaker 2: think they're gonna lose the game at home, Chris like that,
- 24:28Speaker 2: and they played at such a fast pace and you're
- 24:32Speaker 2: a Giannis can't do it on his own and Haliberton nemhard.
- 24:35Speaker 2: You know, Miles Turner, that dude is just he's one
- 24:38Speaker 2: of the fun one of the big men I like
- 24:40Speaker 2: to watch in the NBA more because he's athletic, he
- 24:43Speaker 2: can shoot the three, he plays some solid defense. I
- 24:46Speaker 2: don't know the analytics of him, but he's just a
- 24:48Speaker 2: fun dude to watch. It's a good big kind of
- 24:49Speaker 2: like a DeMarcus Cousins from back in the day. And
- 24:53Speaker 2: uh Siakam dude had twenty five points. That dude, he
- 24:56Speaker 2: always seem to show up in the playoffs, whether it
- 24:58Speaker 2: was for Toronto or whoever. That dude's a gamer. So
- 25:02Speaker 2: I just like the construction of the roster. And they
- 25:04Speaker 2: got home court. Uh, we've been so used for the
- 25:07Speaker 2: past seventy eight years. Chris of Milwaukee have a home
- 25:09Speaker 2: court advantage. They don't this year. They're on the road.
- 25:12Speaker 2: And yeah, you know I would see there probag gonna
- 25:14Speaker 2: start down oh two. Uh, obviously if he does Gianni
- 25:18Speaker 2: Steel game at home, he easily could. But I'm gonna say,
- 25:21Speaker 2: I'm gonna say Pacers, and I'm gonna say Pacers and six.
- 25:25Speaker 2: I think Pacers win on the road and they advance
- 25:28Speaker 2: and they get to the second round for the second
- 25:29Speaker 2: year in a row.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm right there too, I think. So. I mean,
- 25:34Speaker 1: if if Dame doesn't get back by game three and
- 25:37Speaker 1: it maybe he gets there in four or five, then
- 25:40Speaker 1: maybe he'll be five. But yeah, going to the number
- 25:45Speaker 1: one seed in the East. The Cleveland Cavaliers, you know, Miami,
- 25:53Speaker 1: they tried to hang with them, but just so deep.
- 25:58Speaker 1: I mean, Darling in Jerome for Virginia. Those dudes just
- 26:04Speaker 1: went off thirty twenty eight and twenty seven. They really
- 26:10Speaker 1: played well. A lot of makes between them. I think
- 26:14Speaker 1: Jerome was five of eight from three Garland was five
- 26:18Speaker 1: of nine from three. They they that was the story there.
- 26:22Speaker 1: The bigs are the bigs. They're a deep team, this
- 26:26Speaker 1: Cleveland team. You gotta be big and you gotta have guards, right, Obviously,
- 26:31Speaker 1: it'd be nice to have both on a team. You
- 26:32Speaker 1: easily can win a championship that way. But I mean,
- 26:35Speaker 1: you gotta have bigs, active bigs, not just a bozo
- 26:40Speaker 1: but a big dude, and then some guards that can
- 26:43Speaker 1: break you down and playmake and all that stuff to
- 26:46Speaker 1: be able to get Beast of Boston. You just do
- 26:49Speaker 1: because that's what they got. They got about four or
- 26:51Speaker 1: five guys that you could call them ball handlers, but
- 26:54Speaker 1: they're really playmakers. So you know, I thought Miami actually
- 27:00Speaker 1: he hung around, but they just don't have a chance
- 27:02Speaker 1: in this series. Could they win one going off? I
- 27:07Speaker 1: mean maybe I wouldn't. I wouldn't be shocked because Miami
- 27:11Speaker 1: and that culture they have, But really they're just like,
- 27:14Speaker 1: where's Tyler Harre. Okay, let's let's be a hero in
- 27:17Speaker 1: this in this pick and roll, Let's get him in
- 27:19Speaker 1: the Let's just target them, and that seems like what
- 27:22Speaker 1: they were doing. They just they look pretty dominant, and
- 27:25Speaker 1: that's what Miami played all right, It's not like they
- 27:27Speaker 1: played like shit or nothing like that. But yeah, Cleveland, man,
- 27:32Speaker 1: they another team we talked about the Pacers, possibly the
- 27:36Speaker 1: Knicks as well. This Cleveland team, man, it feels like
- 27:40Speaker 1: they have the parts in the pieces to really give
- 27:44Speaker 1: in the home court right to give teams a big
- 27:49Speaker 1: headache in this in this playoffs series or playoffs in
- 27:54Speaker 1: general this year.
- 27:56Speaker 2: So the one thing I'll say about them, just from
- 27:58Speaker 2: listening to ESPN and podcasts and stuff and just throughout
- 28:02Speaker 2: the year of NBA coverages, I feel that they earn
- 28:06Speaker 2: the one seed, but people still think Boston's team to beat.
- 28:09Speaker 2: So to me, it's kind of like, yeah, maybe they
- 28:12Speaker 2: just gotta like prove it. But I mean, if you look, there're.
- 28:15Speaker 1: A lot But I think I think that's a fair statement,
- 28:20Speaker 1: you know.
- 28:21Speaker 2: And I guess depends on one side of the specialumat
- 28:23Speaker 2: of you that, right. You know, like they went thirty
- 28:25Speaker 2: four and seven at home, which is a hell of
- 28:27Speaker 2: a record, and you know, they have a lot of
- 28:30Speaker 2: veteran guys to a decent amount of good veteran players,
- 28:34Speaker 2: So I guess I don't know. My My thing for
- 28:36Speaker 2: them is yet like they earned the one seed. So
- 28:39Speaker 2: I think for people to assume Boston is gonna walk
- 28:41Speaker 2: through it again, I don't know. So I think they're
- 28:44Speaker 2: being a little understated. Uh but obviously if they if
- 28:48Speaker 2: they go and win a series versus I guess people
- 28:49Speaker 2: gotta shut up. So maybe the question is still out
- 28:52Speaker 2: for them. But if we're talking probably.
- 28:54Speaker 1: The best team built to beat Boston, I'd say.
- 28:58Speaker 2: That that's fair. And I will say, you know, because
- 29:01Speaker 2: we were just talking about this for the show started. Hey,
- 29:03Speaker 2: the Pacers they were in almost every game last year.
- 29:07Speaker 2: Now they didn't win them, but that that Pacers team
- 29:09Speaker 2: that there they will to Yeah, because there was there,
- 29:14Speaker 2: there were I think the last game of the series
- 29:16Speaker 2: when the Pacers lost the Celtics, they were up like
- 29:18Speaker 2: twelve and the fourth quarter like that, that Pacers team
- 29:20Speaker 2: was a little slapsh just to Boston. They lost the series,
- 29:22Speaker 2: but Boston had to pull some strings out their hats
- 29:25Speaker 2: to other hats to win those series.
- 29:27Speaker 1: So and they always let one game where you're like, really,
- 29:31Speaker 1: that's weird at home? Remember last year they kept it,
- 29:34Speaker 1: kept thinking maybe Boston is not real, but you know,
- 29:37Speaker 1: in the end, obviously they were. But yeah, from the
- 29:40Speaker 1: ship ups where you're like, dude, what's up?
- 29:42Speaker 2: Man? From a betting standpoint, you're right if you can
- 29:45Speaker 2: find the day. Boston normally seems to lose a home
- 29:47Speaker 2: game every series, and they're normally like twelve to thirteen
- 29:50Speaker 2: point dogs.
- 29:51Speaker 1: It'd be like game two and you're like, what.
- 29:53Speaker 2: Yeah, you just picked that game out. Make yourself some
- 29:56Speaker 2: denaro that that they do it.
- 29:58Speaker 1: They wouldn't row close it out, you know.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Yeah, they've done that for the like the past three
- 30:03Speaker 2: years too. So the Celtics should have a clunker and
- 30:06Speaker 2: then they go and they go to your home court,
- 30:08Speaker 2: they whoop your asked by thirty. But those opportunities are
- 30:11Speaker 2: out there. Yeah, but hey for clear, like you're just
- 30:14Speaker 2: going off to starting five. Donovan Mitchell tons of playoff
- 30:18Speaker 2: experience literally dropped almost like thirty five points in a series.
- 30:22Speaker 2: Verreill not quite thirty five, but he average like thirty
- 30:24Speaker 2: point series that great series against Denver back to the day.
- 30:26Speaker 2: What he is in Utah?
- 30:27Speaker 1: Yeah, fifty games in that series, isn't he?
- 30:31Speaker 2: Yes? Yeah, that dude is not scared about the moment.
- 30:34Speaker 2: Max Screws actually came from the Heat who was a
- 30:36Speaker 2: Heat prodigy. They raised him up Darius Carlin, the Cleveland
- 30:40Speaker 2: great player, Jared Allen, playoff experience, MM Wilby experience. So
- 30:44Speaker 2: this team they have the experience, they got the vets,
- 30:46Speaker 2: they got the young guys, they have the guards. You're right,
- 30:48Speaker 2: it's a well constructed team. Uh. But then when you
- 30:51Speaker 2: look at the Mining Heat starting five, Hero obviously is
- 30:54Speaker 2: a great ballplayer at a Bayo is still a stud.
- 30:58Speaker 2: But they just you know, Duck and Robin since it's
- 31:00Speaker 2: not quite what he was a couple of years ago
- 31:02Speaker 2: around that COVID time frame when the dude could hit
- 31:04Speaker 2: like crazy amount of threes. He's still good, but you know,
- 31:07Speaker 2: it's just obviously Butler's gone, Wiggans is not what he
- 31:10Speaker 2: used to be. It's like, this is still a well
- 31:12Speaker 2: ran organization, but they definitely had a couple of droughts
- 31:16Speaker 2: this year where they struggled, the little bit of bad
- 31:18Speaker 2: pr news. You know, there's people taking shots. Obviously Jimmy
- 31:21Speaker 2: Butler trade didn't go over so smooth. Pat Riley was
- 31:24Speaker 2: pissed off. Bultra, you know, had the team of like
- 31:26Speaker 2: a nine game losing streak. I think this Heat team
- 31:29Speaker 2: is still respectable, but it's not what it was. Five
- 31:32Speaker 2: years ago, and they were kind of seeing the rise
- 31:35Speaker 2: in the fall. This is guy like the fall down,
- 31:37Speaker 2: Like they are they a joke?
- 31:39Speaker 1: No, but they're gonna make a run not say but
- 31:42Speaker 1: they're gonna make a run at a maybe even Duran
- 31:45Speaker 1: or somebody. You know, they're gonna make a run at somebody.
- 31:47Speaker 1: But you know, he had about a year and a
- 31:49Speaker 1: half a great play, but that's when he was set
- 31:52Speaker 1: up around a perfectly set up team around them, you know.
- 31:56Speaker 2: Yeah, so is it is the window closed? Note because
- 31:59Speaker 2: that Bio and Tyler Herro are still really good players.
- 32:02Speaker 2: But like, no, no, Jimmy Butler Obvis, that's a huge
- 32:06Speaker 2: difference with him going and again Duncan Robinson, he's a
- 32:09Speaker 2: roller guy, you know, like.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm on the bench, you know, cheering a lot
- 32:13Speaker 1: in the Yeah.
- 32:14Speaker 2: So like five years ago, they were like an A
- 32:17Speaker 2: plus title contender team. Now they're like in that B
- 32:20Speaker 2: minus range. Now are they a joke? No, but they're
- 32:23Speaker 2: not what they used to be. And until you get
- 32:25Speaker 2: a couple more pieces of background with you, you know, so,
- 32:28Speaker 2: so I think I'll go gentlemen sweep. Yeah, because even
- 32:32Speaker 2: with heat last couple of years, they every year they
- 32:34Speaker 2: seem to have a game at home where they hit
- 32:36Speaker 2: like twenty threes, right, I think they're gonna have one
- 32:38Speaker 2: of those hit twenty threes in Miami, even though their
- 32:41Speaker 2: crowdaile shows up like kind of Miami tipical thing. Yeah,
- 32:44Speaker 2: I think they win one, but I see this one
- 32:47Speaker 2: calves in five.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Calves at home close out the series. I'm with you
- 32:51Speaker 1: there speaking of can they win one. We just got
- 32:54Speaker 1: done talking about how Boston will slip up once in
- 32:57Speaker 1: a while, you know, magic, the Magic hung. They were
- 33:02Speaker 1: doing their thing for a while. Obviously, Celtics ended up
- 33:07Speaker 1: pulling away. Suggs looks a little banged up. They're not,
- 33:11Speaker 1: you know, Orlando. They're another team that has a lot
- 33:14Speaker 1: of repetitive players, and they'll probably make a big move
- 33:19Speaker 1: here next year or in the offseason whatever. But I
- 33:23Speaker 1: was somewhat impressed of how they hung. You know, the
- 33:30Speaker 1: their star player that you know, the dude, Bencher O. Man,
- 33:36Speaker 1: he's a good player. I really like him. Wagner played
- 33:39Speaker 1: pretty good too, I mean, relatively speaking, I should say
- 33:42Speaker 1: he didn't play good from the three, and he took
- 33:45Speaker 1: twenty four shots to get twenty three points, So you
- 33:48Speaker 1: know that that's he didn't really play that good actually,
- 33:52Speaker 1: but other than that, he had a guy volume shoot
- 33:56Speaker 1: to get twenty three in no other double digits. So
- 34:00Speaker 1: you know, they obviously need Suggs to be healthier, and
- 34:06Speaker 1: I don't know if that's gonna happen because he's a young,
- 34:09Speaker 1: explosive player. But what do you think with this is
- 34:13Speaker 1: a gentleman's sweep because we just got done talking about that,
- 34:17Speaker 1: or are they banged up? Wagner's not healthy either, really,
- 34:21Speaker 1: and maybe this would be the sweet series.
- 34:25Speaker 2: I'm still gonna go. I still think the Orlando Magic
- 34:28Speaker 2: win won again. Boston seems to have that game and
- 34:31Speaker 2: they take their foot off the gas like and then
- 34:33Speaker 2: they just fall asleep at the wheel and there's no
- 34:35Speaker 2: tesla to drive and they they'll have that moment again
- 34:39Speaker 2: just because they've done that for the past like three
- 34:40Speaker 2: or four years now. So I think the Magic win
- 34:42Speaker 2: won at home. Well, no, you're actually right, Game two
- 34:45Speaker 2: is won where the Magic should win it. That's how
- 34:47Speaker 2: Boston roles. So I think they'll find one though, right,
- 34:51Speaker 2: But obviously Boston looked really good. Twitter was in love
- 34:55Speaker 2: with Peyton Pritchard for having a great game off the bench,
- 34:57Speaker 2: which he did nineteen points and twenty five minutes came
- 35:01Speaker 2: four threes. That's can't argue with that. Horford still doing
- 35:05Speaker 2: his thing. Porzingis you know, only scored five points Game
- 35:09Speaker 2: one and they won easily, like you know, damn, Like, yeah,
- 35:12Speaker 2: this is a huge miss uh mismatch.
- 35:16Speaker 1: Uh.
- 35:16Speaker 2: But I think Orlando gets one. And I feel we've
- 35:19Speaker 2: had this shout out for a couple of years where
- 35:21Speaker 2: Orlando is a good young team. Uh, but maybe it's
- 35:25Speaker 2: just the first round of poonents they face they can't
- 35:26Speaker 2: quite get that experience, Chris, like the the Pacers got
- 35:30Speaker 2: last year. PACER's able to win this year, as I
- 35:32Speaker 2: feel this Orlando team now has been about the same
- 35:34Speaker 2: spot the past two three years. Hey I made the playoffs.
- 35:36Speaker 2: Hey we're a young team, but ah crap, we're still
- 35:39Speaker 2: struggling to get to a round two. But it's just
- 35:43Speaker 2: maybe one of those growing pains or time and place,
- 35:46Speaker 2: the situation you're in. It's just maybe they maybe they
- 35:48Speaker 2: need a first round opponent who they can put up
- 35:51Speaker 2: a fight against compared to where they've been the last
- 35:54Speaker 2: handful of years, to maybe take that next step up.
- 35:57Speaker 1: My friend, So I extended the Detroit Knicks series. So
- 36:03Speaker 1: I'm gonna tighten this one up. I'm gonna say they're
- 36:05Speaker 1: gonna sweep them. How about that?
- 36:07Speaker 2: Okay?
- 36:08Speaker 1: But yeah, you're right with you know, identifying game two
- 36:14Speaker 1: as the possible mess up, no doubt about it. Or
- 36:17Speaker 1: you know, I don't know. Maybe maybe I could see
- 36:20Speaker 1: him win game three or four, but I'm not. I'm
- 36:21Speaker 1: just gonna do it just for the hell of it.
- 36:23Speaker 1: Either way, I don't see it going past five. And
- 36:27Speaker 1: you know, speaking of not going past game four, game five,
- 36:34Speaker 1: I know where you're going. So the Oklahoma City Thunder
- 36:37Speaker 1: is the number one seed. The point differential is it's
- 36:42Speaker 1: pretty good. If you look at the all time list
- 36:45Speaker 1: the point differentials they had the West one. I think
- 36:50Speaker 1: like late November, it felt like so wow. I mean
- 36:58Speaker 1: I looked and I was like doing the math, like
- 37:00Speaker 1: does that saye they're up by fifty Yeah, and you
- 37:04Speaker 1: know what, they ended up winning by fifty one. You know,
- 37:07Speaker 1: it's one thing to get up by fifty maybe win
- 37:09Speaker 1: by thirty seven or something, you know, or in the forties.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Now they're like, nah, dude, we're gonna keep it the
- 37:15Speaker 1: whole time. We put up one thirty one. The Grizzlies
- 37:18Speaker 1: with not a whole lot of teeth there put up
- 37:21Speaker 1: a eighty freaking points. I did hear someone that really
- 37:28Speaker 1: follows the sports media in the in the television ratings,
- 37:31Speaker 1: you know, in sports. And on one hand they thought,
- 37:35Speaker 1: why didn't they why didn't that window on ABC go
- 37:39Speaker 1: to Golden State Houston? But they also thought, well, you know,
- 37:44Speaker 1: it makes sense that the league in this scenario is
- 37:47Speaker 1: gonna they're thinking about the future as well, and so
- 37:53Speaker 1: they gave Oklahoma City that that window there. And man,
- 37:57Speaker 1: I mean a lot of people tune out of that game.
- 38:00Speaker 1: That was destructive. And you know, Memphis has this little
- 38:07Speaker 1: they had a couple of players that if they get going, man,
- 38:10Speaker 1: they can be a hard nosed team. Still, right, they're
- 38:14Speaker 1: not the team they were, you know, coming out of
- 38:16Speaker 1: the plane and given what was it the Spurs or
- 38:19Speaker 1: somebody a good run, but I don't know. And they
- 38:25Speaker 1: were the well I think it was the second seed
- 38:27Speaker 1: a few years back, weren't they. Yeah, because that's what
- 38:29Speaker 1: they were with the the Timberwolves. When when the Timberwlves
- 38:34Speaker 1: get the Clippers to get the seventh seed in the
- 38:37Speaker 1: plan and that was the sixteenth series, and man, if
- 38:40Speaker 1: you hold back and look at that series, could have,
- 38:43Speaker 1: would have, should have The Timberwlves should.
- 38:45Speaker 2: Have won that series.
- 38:46Speaker 1: But yeah, I just feel like beyond like the grenade
- 38:51Speaker 1: launching and all that, I just I don't know. Can
- 38:56Speaker 1: they win a game in this maybe, But that's about it.
- 39:01Speaker 2: So, as I've told you, I've always listened to Chris Vernon,
- 39:04Speaker 2: who's like the sports Sky does the show and then
- 39:06Speaker 2: just covers the Grizzlies. So I've I kind of know
- 39:08Speaker 2: Memphis a little more than they're probably my second most
- 39:11Speaker 2: knowledgeable team, and they were on init show. You just
- 39:15Speaker 2: talked about how they just hate the matchup just because Okay,
- 39:18Speaker 2: so he's had their number all year. Actually, we're gonna
- 39:20Speaker 2: talk about two coaches who got fired in the Western
- 39:23Speaker 2: Conference whose teams are in the playoffs, and Taylor Jenkins
- 39:26Speaker 2: was one. And from what all I heard, they said,
- 39:29Speaker 2: this wasn't the firing because, like you know, normally in
- 39:31Speaker 2: the NBA, if you fire your coach because the best
- 39:33Speaker 2: players pissed off. There was no jaw rumors. It was
- 39:36Speaker 2: just simply the fact that the Grizzlies I think they
- 39:38Speaker 2: were like thirty one in like five or something versus
- 39:43Speaker 2: like below five hundred teams this year, but then they
- 39:45Speaker 2: couldn't beat the top tier teams. So they were like
- 39:47Speaker 2: a good team versus bat teams, but couldn't beat the
- 39:50Speaker 2: good ones. And I said, okay, see he's a good one. Okay,
- 39:53Speaker 2: so he's had their number this year. They kind of
- 39:55Speaker 2: whooped their ass. And then so to see the fifty,
- 39:57Speaker 2: obviously no one expected fifty. This was a team they
- 40:01Speaker 2: didn't want to play. They don't match up well. And again,
- 40:05Speaker 2: there's nothing wrong of being a B level team in sports,
- 40:07Speaker 2: like as a fan, you know the Grizzlies with forty
- 40:09Speaker 2: and thirty four, that's that's a good year. But when
- 40:13Speaker 2: you got to play a team that has your number,
- 40:15Speaker 2: who also is maybe the best team in the NBA
- 40:17Speaker 2: arguably up there with Boston and Cleveland for sure or sorry,
- 40:20Speaker 2: yeah Boston Cleveland, you can't really do that. So it's
- 40:23Speaker 2: a bad matchup. And obviously for Jaw, you know who
- 40:27Speaker 2: knows where his foot is, he did have he did
- 40:29Speaker 2: spring his nap on the first playing game versus the Warriors,
- 40:32Speaker 2: and he said they shot it up so they couldn't
- 40:34Speaker 2: feel it. He did look really good in that in
- 40:36Speaker 2: the playoff game, the sure if that's.
- 40:38Speaker 1: A great terminology, but keep going.
- 40:41Speaker 2: With him. They never rolled off the tongue.
- 40:45Speaker 1: Yeah all right. Uh, And to be fair, he's not
- 40:47Speaker 1: shooting the guns at least.
- 40:49Speaker 2: No, Yeah, he's he's a he's a different for stride
- 40:53Speaker 2: yourself with people in your life, they'll tell you no.
- 40:55Speaker 2: So I'm gonna say to that because that's why I
- 40:57Speaker 2: heard he stright. Stright. When you strite yourself with yes
- 41:00Speaker 2: people all the time, then maybe some day who's making
- 41:03Speaker 2: choice aren't smart.
- 41:04Speaker 1: So the grenade thing is so silly that it does
- 41:08Speaker 1: actually make me laugh.
- 41:10Speaker 3: I agree, because there are some things in this or
- 41:14Speaker 3: not just this league, but sports in general that we
- 41:17Speaker 3: turn a blind eye to, or we don't put a
- 41:20Speaker 3: bright light on.
- 41:22Speaker 1: I get why we have a bright light on him,
- 41:24Speaker 1: no doubt, but I gotta admit, like it is kind
- 41:28Speaker 1: of funny. He's like, fuck it, dude, Like, but either way,
- 41:32Speaker 1: keep going.
- 41:32Speaker 2: Sorry, no, you're yeah. He says he's gonna do the
- 41:35Speaker 2: grenade launch. He can't suck, but I don't know how. Hey,
- 41:39Speaker 2: Grady's he's gonna throw. Because if you're doing your own
- 41:41Speaker 2: little celebration when you're driving, you're getting trounced by fifty.
- 41:43Speaker 2: That makes it look pretty silly. Yeah, I'm going this
- 41:47Speaker 2: will be my first sweet prediction of the show. It's
- 41:49Speaker 2: a bad matchup and I think this whole case team,
- 41:52Speaker 2: especially as Hey they took Luke at seven last year.
- 41:55Speaker 2: They lost on a heartbreaker where I believe I believe
- 41:57Speaker 2: Shake Gilbs Alexander I Chance said the game when he fadeaway,
- 42:01Speaker 2: which would have knocked the MAVs out. So I think
- 42:03Speaker 2: this team wants blood. Memphis is a good team, but
- 42:06Speaker 2: again Jared Jackson, Bain and joh Like they're good, but
- 42:11Speaker 2: they're it's just make if they're playing like the Rockets
- 42:14Speaker 2: or the Lakers, maybe a different story, but not with
- 42:16Speaker 2: the Thunder. So yeah, okay, see in four.
- 42:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm with you. No matter what the reason was,
- 42:25Speaker 1: just wait till the end of the year. You know,
- 42:28Speaker 1: it makes no fucking sense the fire guy that late
- 42:30Speaker 1: in the season.
- 42:33Speaker 2: And the counter was, if you know you're struggling at
- 42:35Speaker 2: versus good teams, why didn't you fire him sooner? You know?
- 42:38Speaker 1: The right? Sure, Yeah, it's something that I talk about
- 42:44Speaker 1: all the time with the damn the two leagues. Now
- 42:47Speaker 1: this is late in the year, but just the weird
- 42:50Speaker 1: Usually it's early in the year the NBA and the NHL,
- 42:53Speaker 1: literally like seventeen games in will be like, now you're going,
- 42:56Speaker 1: you're you know, You're like, why'd you even bring the
- 42:59Speaker 1: person back? I don't understand it. It's those two leagues
- 43:03Speaker 1: really stand out of some just head scratchers. Obviously. You know,
- 43:08Speaker 1: we had two head scratchers or three head scratchers really
- 43:12Speaker 1: this year in the NBA, two of them having to
- 43:15Speaker 1: do with coaches. But yeah, I just don't know why
- 43:19Speaker 1: you don't finish the season or like you said, maybe
- 43:23Speaker 1: earlier in the season, not seventeen games, but yeah, I
- 43:28Speaker 1: just I think that the coach was solid enough that
- 43:33Speaker 1: you could have just kept him throughout the year and
- 43:35Speaker 1: then been like, all right, we want to move on.
- 43:37Speaker 1: I just don't see a good enough reason, uh to
- 43:41Speaker 1: fire him that late in the season. I mean, they
- 43:44Speaker 1: were still in decent position for Christ's sakes, you know. Yeah,
- 43:48Speaker 1: So that one, that one threw me way for a loop.
- 43:54Speaker 1: All right, So I'm with you. A double sweep there
- 43:59Speaker 1: the Golden State, whereas there was only two well both
- 44:02Speaker 1: of them were uh well, there was a six and
- 44:04Speaker 1: a seventh seed. That's the only lower seed anyway, I
- 44:08Speaker 1: guess depending on how you look at it, higher seed
- 44:13Speaker 1: the road scene, this is one of the teams that
- 44:16Speaker 1: got it done, the Warriors, the Rockets. I remember talking
- 44:22Speaker 1: my buddy yesterday, thinking, man, it's gonna be a high
- 44:27Speaker 1: scoring game, and I thought, said, you know what, it
- 44:29Speaker 1: actually might be a grinded out game, because I started
- 44:32Speaker 1: thinking about a game I had just seen with them
- 44:34Speaker 1: not long ago, and it was a grinded out game.
- 44:38Speaker 1: And I think Steph had a rough outing. Oh no,
- 44:40Speaker 1: maybe that was against Memphis in the regular season. They
- 44:43Speaker 1: held them to like three points or some shit like that,
- 44:46Speaker 1: eight points or something like that. But it was a grinder, man.
- 44:51Speaker 1: I mean, the scores early in that game were pretty
- 44:55Speaker 1: crazy and not in a positive way. But that defense,
- 44:58Speaker 1: the Warrior defense sense, you know, was just great. You know,
- 45:05Speaker 1: Jalen Green and Fred Van Fleet struggled. We know the
- 45:10Speaker 1: half court is gonna be an issue in a struggle
- 45:13Speaker 1: for Houston. They like to get up and get out.
- 45:16Speaker 1: And this is a team. You know, we mentioned teams
- 45:19Speaker 1: like Detroit that isn't necessarily based draft wise, like they're young, young,
- 45:28Speaker 1: they have veterans, and this is kind of a team
- 45:30Speaker 1: that has drafted a lot of guys, these guys that
- 45:33Speaker 1: played together now for a while. But we know half
- 45:36Speaker 1: court was gonna be an issue. But I mean, I
- 45:39Speaker 1: didn't see this coming, you know, I saw I listened
- 45:43Speaker 1: to the Zach Low Show. He listed all the pace
- 45:47Speaker 1: analytics for the first games, and there's only one that
- 45:51Speaker 1: was high. Other than that, it was just and of course,
- 45:54Speaker 1: you know it slows down in the playoffs and the
- 45:57Speaker 1: half court. You get in more half court. Obviously, sometimes
- 46:01Speaker 1: you give up offensive rebounds because you just get guys back.
- 46:04Speaker 1: Veteran teams tend to do that. In fact, you Houston
- 46:11Speaker 1: was doing that against Florida in college basketball. There's a
- 46:16Speaker 1: couple of times where I thought, man, maybe they shouldn't
- 46:19Speaker 1: go protect and get back on deep. Maybe they should
- 46:22Speaker 1: have sent one guy because that could have been a
- 46:23Speaker 1: bucket because there was a loose ball there. And I remember,
- 46:27Speaker 1: speaking of Doc Rivers and the Celtics team, you mentioned
- 46:29Speaker 1: that they used to kind of sometimes give up on
- 46:32Speaker 1: the offensive rebound just to get back and defend and
- 46:35Speaker 1: set up depending on who you're playing, obviously, and the
- 46:38Speaker 1: Rockets want to get out and go. So the Warriors
- 46:42Speaker 1: defense green and Jimmy, and since Jimmy's been there, loved,
- 46:46Speaker 1: you know, Draymond obviously still solid, very solid defensive player.
- 46:52Speaker 1: But ever since they got Jimmy, they've been ding up
- 46:56Speaker 1: and Rockets looked rough in the half court. Still a
- 47:02Speaker 1: good game. I give the Rockets credit, though. They kept
- 47:04Speaker 1: coming back and making a time. Oh they're within six,
- 47:07Speaker 1: they're within three, they're within seven, they're with you know,
- 47:10Speaker 1: they hung with them. But to put up eighty five points,
- 47:16Speaker 1: I don't know, man, I don't know. I'll tell you
- 47:18Speaker 1: one thing. I did think this is gonna this is
- 47:21Speaker 1: my predition, Golden State and sixth that's what it was
- 47:24Speaker 1: gonna be before Game one. I'm looking at it now,
- 47:27Speaker 1: I'm like, many they won game one. Oh maybe it's less.
- 47:32Speaker 2: So I'm really struggling just to find it in a
- 47:35Speaker 2: way to like just kind of summarize Golden State. Because
- 47:37Speaker 2: I've been a fan since I'm uh oh seven, where
- 47:42Speaker 2: when when they swept, when they beat the when they
- 47:44Speaker 2: beat the Maps and with bar Davis, I've been a
- 47:46Speaker 2: Golden State fan for a long time. Okay, so well,
- 47:48Speaker 2: I've not been on the bad wagons. I'm not I'm
- 47:50Speaker 2: not badwagon jumper. But it's just so weird to see
- 47:55Speaker 2: the team that won the titles and now to watch
- 47:57Speaker 2: this team play. So I guess I got spoiled because
- 48:01Speaker 2: watching that their regular season failie versus the Clippers, and
- 48:05Speaker 2: then they're playing game versus Memphis. What I'm about to
- 48:09Speaker 2: say it sounds crazy, but man, I really feel that.
- 48:14Speaker 2: I know Butler is a good basketball player, but they
- 48:16Speaker 2: it's like they really try to feed Steph the ball
- 48:19Speaker 2: like almost too much times, Like in that Clippers game.
- 48:21Speaker 2: I'll get to this quickly, but like there was five
- 48:24Speaker 2: possessions in a row in the fourth court and start
- 48:27Speaker 2: of ot where they had three shot clock violations and
- 48:30Speaker 2: two bat shops because all they try to do is
- 48:32Speaker 2: get Steph the ball. And in that game versus Memphis,
- 48:35Speaker 2: which they won thankfully, because John did roll his ankle,
- 48:38Speaker 2: like it was where Steph, we're Steph, We're Steph, We're
- 48:41Speaker 2: Curry's got to do it own. And I know the
- 48:43Speaker 2: dude is still special. Hell, he had a miraculous year.
- 48:46Speaker 2: He should be like first team NBA this year. But
- 48:48Speaker 2: it's like if he's really your only option, it's just
- 48:52Speaker 2: so weird to see him play because obviously they used
- 48:54Speaker 2: to feed off each other, him and play and other guys.
- 48:56Speaker 2: So just to me as a Warrior fan, I'm trying
- 48:58Speaker 2: to just like, Okay, I know it's new team and
- 49:00Speaker 2: Draymond's a little bit older, and Draymond's ever been to a.
- 49:02Speaker 1: Huge you're telling Jimmy Butler not an offensive option he
- 49:07Speaker 1: put up he put up last night five.
- 49:10Speaker 2: No, it's just I guess just from the games I watch,
- 49:13Speaker 2: I feel that when Steph is on the court, like,
- 49:16Speaker 2: I guess I need to see those other it just
- 49:21Speaker 2: seems like they forced him too much, and I like
- 49:23Speaker 2: Butler should have a little more time just do his
- 49:25Speaker 2: old thing because he Butler can't score and he's since
- 49:27Speaker 2: he's come to words even better. I'm just just the
- 49:30Speaker 2: offense Jimmy Butler. Yeah, well that that and that's a
- 49:35Speaker 2: different person. Yes, I just I just think offensively, their
- 49:39Speaker 2: offense just it. I need to I don't know, I
- 49:43Speaker 2: just need to see more from it. That that's all.
- 49:46Speaker 2: It's it's just a different squad that's growing on me.
- 49:48Speaker 2: I just need to.
- 49:49Speaker 1: See happy that they won game one of a series
- 49:52Speaker 1: or no.
- 49:53Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, I just think I just I just think now,
- 49:58Speaker 2: but but the dudes freaking amazing. So when he does
- 50:00Speaker 2: get the ball out, we've run through like three screens,
- 50:02Speaker 2: he still hits like thirty foot threes. I don't know
- 50:04Speaker 2: the dude's fing special. I just want to see when
- 50:08Speaker 2: they when they face good. I just couln't believe they
- 50:10Speaker 2: had like back to back chocolock violations. That would just
- 50:12Speaker 2: really stuck in my head. I know it was the
- 50:14Speaker 2: last game of the year, but it mattered because it
- 50:16Speaker 2: was the Clippers and Wards were playing for a seeding spot,
- 50:19Speaker 2: so the game wasn't a joke, but that just stuck
- 50:21Speaker 2: my head. So I got the rant to run that.
- 50:23Speaker 2: But hey, this is versus Houston, Kase. It's not the Clippers, kay,
- 50:27Speaker 2: who are very good defensively. Hey, speaking of defense, man,
- 50:33Speaker 2: as I kind of say, gold stand scares me a bit. Dude,
- 50:35Speaker 2: if you're Houston man, uh, you scored thirty four points
- 50:38Speaker 2: in the first half. Now, obviously, if you want to
- 50:41Speaker 2: watched the game like that singoon, that dude's a ballplayer.
- 50:45Speaker 2: That dude you know he can get his and he
- 50:47Speaker 2: had twenty six last night. But the thing is is
- 50:51Speaker 2: he he wants to drop his shoulder down and try
- 50:53Speaker 2: to work his way to the basket and make a
- 50:55Speaker 2: bunch of layups, which is okay because twos are better
- 50:57Speaker 2: than three. So, like say, Goon was put up a
- 51:00Speaker 2: good fight. But like you said, Fred van Vliet, four
- 51:03Speaker 2: of nineteen, Dylan Brooks three of nine, am On Thompson
- 51:06Speaker 2: four of nine, Jalen Green three for fifteen. So besides Segon,
- 51:12Speaker 2: who's gonna be the guy that hurts you for.
- 51:16Speaker 1: Houston?
- 51:17Speaker 2: Like, yes, they had a great year fifty two and thirty.
- 51:20Speaker 2: Oh they have home court for a reason. They airned it.
- 51:22Speaker 2: But as we were talking about for the show, in
- 51:24Speaker 2: playoff times, you're gonna slow down. Obviously Kerr has a
- 51:28Speaker 2: little bit of a coaching experience over Emeyodoku, who's obviously
- 51:31Speaker 2: had a good tracker or two in the playoffs. But
- 51:33Speaker 2: I just think you have the coaching experience, you have
- 51:35Speaker 2: the player experience. And yeah, the question I've heard on
- 51:38Speaker 2: that that you mentioned Zach Low on his podcast was
- 51:40Speaker 2: how Houston gonna score like that? And that's the dude.
- 51:44Speaker 2: Fred van Fleet. We watched him have a lot of games, Christopher,
- 51:47Speaker 2: he goes off in the playoffs when he was in
- 51:48Speaker 2: Toronto and other places. But yeah, I don't know who's
- 51:52Speaker 2: your guy. Now, obviously, Dylan Brooks some nights he can
- 51:54Speaker 2: go ten for twelve. Some nights he can go three
- 51:56Speaker 2: for twelve. Okay, uh, but that is gonna be.
- 51:59Speaker 1: It has to be. You'reen and Van Fleet to play better.
- 52:02Speaker 1: But I just think half court they're not the same team,
- 52:05Speaker 1: you know.
- 52:06Speaker 2: Yeah, so, and obviously Golden State did a great job
- 52:09Speaker 2: of slowing the game down. The first quarter was twenty
- 52:12Speaker 2: one to eighteen, so Houston actually had to lead in
- 52:14Speaker 2: the first quarter, but it was in a much slower pace,
- 52:17Speaker 2: you know, So they were trying to play the Golden
- 52:20Speaker 2: State way of game. And then in the second quarter
- 52:22Speaker 2: twenty nine to thirteen. Crazy to hit a couple of threes.
- 52:26Speaker 2: Jimmy had a nice couple of step backs. So like, also,
- 52:28Speaker 2: oh crap, now we're down like thirteen points going into half.
- 52:31Speaker 2: You know, so, I think this is a bad matchup
- 52:33Speaker 2: for Houston. Now, if you're Houston, you want to play
- 52:36Speaker 2: a team like Indiana, you know who's hey, let's run
- 52:39Speaker 2: a good with you, have some fun. You know, that
- 52:41Speaker 2: actually be a really cool matchup. I don't I don't
- 52:43Speaker 2: think that's gonna be the NBA Finals, but that's probably
- 52:46Speaker 2: a team in Houston desire to play more. So Hey again,
- 52:49Speaker 2: but like Detroit, Hey, you're no one expected you to
- 52:53Speaker 2: be the side of the seed. You have a lot
- 52:54Speaker 2: of young pieces, you have good pieces. What can you
- 52:57Speaker 2: do to help your team grow in the playoffs? And again,
- 52:59Speaker 2: I just think this a bad matchup for them. I'll
- 53:02Speaker 2: take Warriors to win it at home in game six.
- 53:08Speaker 1: That was my tradition going in. Like I said, winning
- 53:12Speaker 1: winning game one kind of makes me think five as possible.
- 53:15Speaker 1: But I was gonna I'm just gonna stick to six
- 53:19Speaker 1: just because and you know, I mean, I don't think
- 53:23Speaker 1: that those two guards are gonna play that back great
- 53:26Speaker 1: and Sang Goun is a very good player and he
- 53:30Speaker 1: should dominate in this series really because you know, I
- 53:35Speaker 1: like Draymond Green, but against big bigs, I guess you
- 53:40Speaker 1: could say that could score. He has some limitations there,
- 53:45Speaker 1: So I don't know, I just thought it was I
- 53:47Speaker 1: just the biggest thing I'd say about Golden State is
- 53:50Speaker 1: they have their they have a lot They're playing better defense,
- 53:54Speaker 1: yes ever since Jimmy got there, and now they do
- 53:57Speaker 1: have playoff Jimmy, So that that that, you know, it's
- 54:03Speaker 1: it's gonna be interesting on to the Denver Nuggets hosting
- 54:09Speaker 1: the LA Clippers. This is one of those games I
- 54:12Speaker 1: thought for sure six or seven, and really this is
- 54:15Speaker 1: the seven game series I thought going in to game one,
- 54:20Speaker 1: So I'm just gonna stick to my guns. I thought
- 54:22Speaker 1: I like Denver and seven. But you know, Denver, speaking
- 54:27Speaker 1: of defense, it just hasn't been there. They they've really
- 54:30Speaker 1: never had a rim protector. But they don't have the
- 54:34Speaker 1: defense they had last year and the year before. And
- 54:37Speaker 1: obviously they've lost some key pieces as far in the
- 54:42Speaker 1: way of you know, role players, and you know, Mike
- 54:49Speaker 1: Malone had been there for I think ten years they
- 54:51Speaker 1: won a chip. He was calling out the players over
- 54:58Speaker 1: and over again. He was saying and stuff like basically
- 55:04Speaker 1: the only time he watched film is as a team
- 55:06Speaker 1: because the players aren't gonna watch film and stuff like that.
- 55:09Speaker 1: Like he was really being straight up. And their defensive
- 55:14Speaker 1: effort was troubling. I'll say that. Like I said, they've
- 55:17Speaker 1: never been like older the number one defense, but they've
- 55:21Speaker 1: been better in recent years. And if there's only one
- 55:25Speaker 1: thing you can say about Jokic is his you know,
- 55:29Speaker 1: the last couple of years, he's he's better at being
- 55:32Speaker 1: in the right place on defense. But he's still for
- 55:35Speaker 1: a seven foot or not a rint protector and you
- 55:38Speaker 1: can exploit him to an extent, but it has to
- 55:41Speaker 1: be the right team to do it. But he just
- 55:44Speaker 1: brings so much on the offensive end, you know, point guard,
- 55:49Speaker 1: he's a point forward, right point center, I guess you
- 55:51Speaker 1: could say. But it was a great It was a
- 55:55Speaker 1: really competitive game. A couple of things that stood out
- 55:58Speaker 1: is turnovers twenty to eleven, and some of that is
- 56:03Speaker 1: some of the aggressive stuff that they did with towards Leonard.
- 56:08Speaker 1: He'll probably tighten that up, but he had too many
- 56:11Speaker 1: turnovers and then you know, in fouls the Clippers only
- 56:16Speaker 1: got to the line sixteen compared to twenty seven. I
- 56:23Speaker 1: really felt like the Clippers were gonna win the game
- 56:26Speaker 1: man as it was playing out Porter, They're gonna have
- 56:31Speaker 1: to get more out of him. Westbrook, you know, can
- 56:36Speaker 1: be hit or missed. As we know, sometimes he'll make
- 56:39Speaker 1: some great plays. Other times he'll make you know, bad
- 56:44Speaker 1: plays or bad take, bad shots or whatever. It was
- 56:48Speaker 1: kind of a mixed bag. But I'd say definitely more
- 56:50Speaker 1: of a net positive in this game. But they're gonna
- 56:53Speaker 1: need Porter to do more. And but yeah, the Mike
- 56:56Speaker 1: Malone thing. Once again, no matter what you think of
- 57:03Speaker 1: him with his team, when you're someplace for a decade,
- 57:09Speaker 1: your voice does get old and it doesn't the same
- 57:13Speaker 1: energy or rants or whatever you did. It doesn't ignite
- 57:17Speaker 1: the team. Sometimes that's fine and dandy. If they got
- 57:21Speaker 1: beaten the first round, you move on. Okay, Man, it's
- 57:25Speaker 1: still like I'd give him another year. I think it
- 57:28Speaker 1: has to do with their you know, it doesn't. I
- 57:31Speaker 1: know he's had problems with the front office, but honestly,
- 57:35Speaker 1: the ownership has proven that they're cheating. They just have
- 57:40Speaker 1: so to me, it just makes no sense whatsoever to
- 57:47Speaker 1: fire him. Let the season finish up. And hey, if
- 57:50Speaker 1: you want to fire him so bad, if they lose
- 57:52Speaker 1: the first round, then you can at least say, hey,
- 57:54Speaker 1: we're gonna move on. We're just gonna get a new voice.
- 57:57Speaker 1: You know, I wouldn't doubt he lands in San Antonio.
- 58:02Speaker 1: But either way, yeah, ridiculous decision. But this is gonna
- 58:08Speaker 1: be a good series, man, because I know the Clippers
- 58:11Speaker 1: can play better than they did so but I do
- 58:13Speaker 1: think Denver will win. But seven games. I got this
- 58:18Speaker 1: as a seven game or my friend.
- 58:21Speaker 2: So I'm gonna copy and paste most of what you said.
- 58:24Speaker 2: I will be going with Clippers in seven, though.
- 58:28Speaker 1: I can see that, Hey, the Clippers down the stretch
- 58:30Speaker 1: have been great.
- 58:31Speaker 2: Man. Well, I know I just mentioned that that gol
- 58:35Speaker 2: and State Clippers game, but like, dude, like legit, like
- 58:37Speaker 2: the they Curry like it was like you had back
- 58:41Speaker 2: to back play shot clock violations, which you don't see
- 58:44Speaker 2: then in the end of an NBA game, and like
- 58:46Speaker 2: they they said, Curry, you want the ball, the fuck
- 58:48Speaker 2: you're getting the ball and this, and he's the master
- 58:51Speaker 2: of runner rounds. So that that one quarter impressed me.
- 58:55Speaker 2: And also when I that one core I saw James
- 58:58Speaker 2: Harden was like, oh shit, this is not the strip
- 59:01Speaker 2: Strip club crab legs James Harden. Dude, this is the
- 59:04Speaker 2: Harden that we used to see. He got in the
- 59:06Speaker 2: lane his float. Yeah.
- 59:10Speaker 1: So the thing the team, they're one of the hottest teams,
- 59:14Speaker 1: if not the hottest team down the stretch of the season.
- 59:17Speaker 2: Yeah, because Kawhi is always very good defender. With healthy,
- 59:20Speaker 2: Zubac is a beast. Harden is in just better shape,
- 59:23Speaker 2: same with Powell, Like it's.
- 59:25Speaker 1: Just as good as you're gonna get. Almost against Jokis too.
- 59:30Speaker 1: You know he can at least make it work, make
- 59:32Speaker 1: him work for it.
- 59:33Speaker 2: You know, I've never liked the team the Clippers, because
- 59:36Speaker 2: I always can't been a rivalry with Golden State's fade
- 59:39Speaker 2: away a little be in the past years. But no,
- 59:42Speaker 2: that's a solid squad and a healthy Kawhi, which most
- 59:46Speaker 2: people will probably forgot about. But dude, when he's healthy,
- 59:49Speaker 2: he's still on the best players in basketball and playoff
- 59:52Speaker 2: Kawhi went healthy is still dangerous. So but hey, you're right,
- 59:55Speaker 2: they let the one slip away, right, if not for
- 59:58Speaker 2: a last second shot there they win the game, right
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: elation he lose by two in the end in ot like,
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: But to your point, hey, Denver's defense isn't that good.
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: So the fact that you're playing against maybe one of
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: the best defenses in the league versus a team that
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: doesn't play the best defense, you'd have to give the
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: edge to the Clippers, even though I know they don't
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: have home court to sign a bit crazy and they
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: lost the first game, but I'm still going Clippers in seven.
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: I do think the coaching does matter, like I know
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: that now again, I believe that Memphis fired their coach
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: because they he didn't do anything wrong, like he didn't
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: lose the locker room, but they couldn't beat the good teams.
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: The articles in the ESPN said, dude, the players are miserable.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: I obviously four games to go was like holy shit.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: But I still don't think you do yeah, yeah, so.
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: You know, like, yeah, but they made the call and
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: I gotta just see what the assistants can do to
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: fill in. But yeah, I'm with you. I just think
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: that the Clippers win tonight. That game starts hearing about
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: how I think. Uh yeah, So I'll take the Clippers
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: and obviously the Nuggets. You know, the defense hasn't been
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: the best, but you still got a ton of experience
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: there as well. So you have a potential MVP this
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: year unless it goes to say shake Gildens, Alexander and Jokich.
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: Murray come playoff time, like Donovan Mitchell. That series that
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: back in the day is epic. Murray's gonna get you
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: twenty to thirty points a night. That dude doesn't shy
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: away from the moment, so and I'm sure he'll get
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: a little bit healthier. Porter Junior is kind of a
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: wild card, and Aaron Gordon, that dude again, he just
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: he plays basketball.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: Man.
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: He played forty six minutes in Game one, Murray played
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: forty eight. Like they just got some dogs and Westbrook,
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: I'm with you, Chris. That can be a shoot you
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: out of a game, winn you a game? Like be
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: a middleman in between, like the clip. The Nuggets are good.
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: Could they win the series on hundred percent? Yes? I
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: just think the Clippers are just gonna be able to
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: pull it off. But yeah, the coaching thing was just
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: a huge shock. Maybe that cleans out the locker room
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: drama for a little bit. Okay, cool, you got your
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: guy gone, but now you got to play and probably
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: what is the toughest matchup in round one in the
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: whole playoffs. The tinfuly got home court, but shit they
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: had the same record. Wow, but hey they got home court.
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: But dude, now you gotta go show out and you're
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: you're you're head coach there even was Dan know he
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: still had that experience for drum plays at the end,
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: and Malone was a very talented dude. Again, he had
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: the longest tenure in the NBA and he was there
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: for ten years. Like that's you don't see that nowadays
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: almost Besides, like spoilshrump pop. I mean, guys last that long.
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: So I think with just the turmoil, and like you said,
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: the Clippers could have won Game one. I think they
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: pull out to that in Game two. I think they're
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: able to win Game seven a mile high Arena. So yeah,
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: but this should, in theory be the the most fun
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: series to watch. Just from a a great basketball standpoint,
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: I would assume this should be the most enjoyable team
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: team hater, team love aside should be the most fun
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: game to watch for best basketball in theory.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: And I noticed the a lot of pick and roll
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: two man game with Murray Jokic, go figure, but they
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: actually on the Zach Low podcast that was the most
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: they ran all year pick and roll with those guys,
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: and you could tell the thing. The only thing, like
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: a couple of years back, you know, I was high
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: on the Clippers, and I'm just I'm not ready yet.
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: I'm just not ready yet, because you know, Harden will
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: just show his ass in one of these games, right,
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: like you'll just fall off the face of the earth,
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: for in a game where you're like, what the hell
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: was that? Yeah, And it seems like he's on line,
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: like booking his trip to wherever. And and then Kawhi
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: just getting hurt. Man Like even last year it was like, oh,
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: here we go. Oh he's hurt, he's done. You know,
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: So I just I believe in this team. I think
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: they're a deep very like if you look get getting
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: you know rid of who they got rid of and
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: George and the jump that about three players made points
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: made up for it. But they're they're a damn good team.
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: And I do think they're a dark horse, even though
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: I'm picking against them, I do think they're a dark
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: horse to come out of the West. But you know,
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: the Harden, what are you gonna get every night? Even
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: though he's playing great, I gotta give him a ton
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: of credit. And then can Kawhi It's kind of like
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: Chris Paul. Now we're not in May yet, so maybe
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: he'll stay healthy for this, you know time around. Can
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: they finally have Kawhi and he stays healthy for a
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: whole playoffs. If that's the case, they might get out.
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: They have that type of team that they could get
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: out of the West. But we will see.
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: And that's our show. But that's good said.
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: Save it for the Living and Louserville Basketball podcast. For
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: the Timberwlves. We're not gonna do that. No, this is
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: another one that most people thought, well, pretty much everybody
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: picked the Lakers to win, but a lot of people
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: thought six or seven. I'm not shocked that the Timberwolves
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: won Game one because they're a very good road team.
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: They're not that great at home playoff in this regular season.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: When you knock down that many threes, twenty one forty two,
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: it's crazy. Luca was hot early than he wasn't. Lebron
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: had about a really good quarter and a half, not
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: much to speak of, and then Reeves had that fourteen
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: point quarter and then that was about it. What I
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: was impressed with beyond the shooting, of course, uh was
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: you know, Randall had too many turnovers in the first
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: half and for the for the game, and at the
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: first half just wasn't playing good. But other than that,
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: in the second half, those two got it together in
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: the cast just all came together. It was gorgeous basketball.
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: Once they got it together. It felt like it was
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: stuck on fifteen to seven for a while in that
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: first quarter, and I think it was twenty eight to
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: twenty one the Lakers, and then that second unit, like
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: it has a lot came in and just went to town.
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: It took over the lead and never looked back. I
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: think they got to like eleven or twelve, but other
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: than that, they never looked back really. And Ant had
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: his first turnover his only turnover like ninety seconds into
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: the game, Marshall, and he was nine assist, no turnovers
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: after that, so that was key. And like I said,
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: both those guys scoring wise, Randall and Ant didn't have
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: the most productive games, but they did have like at
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: certain spots in the game, they hit nice threes or
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: you know, I mean Randall, I think he would he
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: hit all his threes, I think, and I think he was,
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: oh he's four to six, My bad McDaniels hit. But
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: the catch and shoot McDaniels in the catch and shoot
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: Randall was huge in the second half in the offensive
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: rebound n one And then you know, I mean, Nas
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: just went off six to nine from three that one
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: that he was fading kind of going on a bounce.
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: And I don't think he hit the rim on all
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: six makes, but I don't expect him to do that.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: But what I did like is they put Luca in
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: Reeves in the wash a little bit in McDaniels. Last
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: year they hit lukea on McDaniels, and this year, since
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: summer December January, he's been more assertive on offense instead
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: of just seeing if he can make corner threes. I
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: was really impressed by that, so Game one, to do
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: what you did, man, that really set the tone for
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: the series.
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: I think a lot of times in basketball you can
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: go with the hey, who's the best player on the court,
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: I'm gonna pick this team to win. Now, in this situation,
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: you obviously have one of the best of all time,
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: arguably the best of all time. And when you have
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: that debate today and then another player who could go
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: down is one of the top ten to fifteen best
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: of all time, potentially if Luca keeps playing, Away is
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: playing So it is weird to think, hey, they have
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: two of the potential top fifteen best players of all time.
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: Maybe okay in a series, but you're gonna pick the
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: other team. I do not follow the Wolves as closely
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: as you or two of my other friends, but what
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: I heard from you and what I heard from my
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: buddies say is like they think, obviously the Wolves are
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: just a deeper team. I've heard that said on Sports
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: Center too. So you do not have Lebron or Luca, sure,
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: but you have a team who plays great defense, and
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: they're deeper than the Lakers. And down the stretch of
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: the year, the numbers, like the analytics, was trending towards
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: a nice season for the Wolves. Before they had their
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: little Milwaukee hiccup, the Wolves had been on like a
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: fourteen and three winning streak, So pretty much everything about
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: them in the second half of the season was really
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: good for these last two months because obviously, in the
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: first half the year, I do know all the Wolves
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: had quite a few hiccups where they played good against
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: the good teams, but they lose the shitty ones. Well
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: that's not good for team chemistry obviously, but in playoff
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: times now you're obviously gonna shake away your loss. You
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: had it Charlotte one night, or you know, or versus
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: New York or Brooklyn ass whoever you have. The bump
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: teams went the bad teams. So I think now that
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: they're locked in, they're a deeper team. You have a
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: guy to Anthony Edwards when I give and I can
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: drop thirty or forty, and obviously they're probably have a
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: little bit of a bitter taste for mouth from how
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: they went out last year, because last year they had
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: a great chance to make the NBA Finals and they
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: got stung by Luca. But the one on the point,
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: Chris I'll make they'll throw it back to you is
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: last year the Wolf the MAVs to cause the Wolves
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: issues kind of had like those three bigs that kept
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: rotating in and out. This Lakers team obviously has Lebron
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: and Lebron and Luca, but those aren't like the bigs
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: that are gonna just like kill you down lower or
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: make go Bear work or it was kind of a
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: different matchup. So you'd assume, Okay, well, Luca went good
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: on the against the Wolves last year. Now he's got Lebron, Okay,
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: but Jackson Hayes isn't getting kill you low rehatch from
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: is not gonna make go Bear maybe run off the court.
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: So maybe from just a team defensive matchup. And I'm
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: asking you because I don't know this as well as
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: you do. I feel that the names on the paper
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: scare you, but maybe defensively, like you're not seeing as
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: many threats as you have Luke. Last year, obviously, Kyrie
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: was just a handful of a tough guy guard himself.
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: So maybe just from a defensive matchup, are the Wolves
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: that a better situation for this than they were last
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: year versus Dallas? And I'm sure we're gonna agree, but
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: the Wolves are obviously the deeper team this series, which
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: can benefit you because look when you look at what
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: Nasri did, that was a hell of a show. That
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: guy could be a starter on a lot he is,
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: but he comes on the bench and fits his role.
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: So what do you think about my my points there story,
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: because I'm gonna turn to you on the Wolves.
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: Talk well, to your point, it was really the three
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: bigs Lively or two bigs Lively and Gafford. They averaged
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: ninth I think it's nineteen points or twenty one points
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: the whole series to get together, which is really good
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: for them. Yeah, one thing, so that's one thing. They
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: don't have the bigs to exploit, right too.
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: They don't blame the bart stay on the court, right
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: but that and that allows Gobert to be on the
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: court more often and not and not I have worried
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: about foul Treulore are being pulled.
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: Out of it.
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: You know, I maybe it's just easier for him to
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: focus on his part.
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: In a way. Well, honestly, if foul problems got him
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: out of this game, maybe he didn't get played out
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: of this game. Remember he got two quick falls, got
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: a third fall early second quarter. That's why he didn't
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: played much. And he didn't. The thing is about go
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: Bart unless you watch him all eighty two, I understand why. Like,
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: who doesn't Luca do that too though? In the playoffs one? Right, So,
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: and the funny thing is that game winner, it was
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: a good defense. Actually it wasn't bad. And the funny
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: thing is the play the possession before Luca didn't hit
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: the shot and really played good defense again, you know, so,
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: like he just stuffed Lebron on a on a drive
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: when he was trying to dunk on him. That doesn't
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: get the highlight that if he got dunked on then
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: it would, right. Yes, What that came down to last
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: year was the Wolves didn't execute on offense Kyrie before
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: the series in those first two series to really hit
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: or miss same within the finals, right, But there's a
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: couple of games where he just hits some shots where
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: you're like, okay, dude, whatever, man, you know, sure, buddy,
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: that was a great shot, you bastard, you know. But
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: the thing is, Rudy doesn't really get played off the
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: court like that. He just doesn't. And so it's a
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: it's offensive execution or lack thereof. Sometimes in this year
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: in clutch, in the clutch time a five point game
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: within five minutes, we had the worst record in that.
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: So we haven't played good in the clutch still, And
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: so it's really that side of the ball, because you
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: got to match, just like with le Bron, in Luca
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: and Kyrie and Lucant you have to match them. You're
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: not gonna just stop him. You got to match him.
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: So I think that's actually what it comes down to more.
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: But the fact is, beyond Luca and to an extent, Kyrie,
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: they were a damn good defensive team last year too, Dallas,
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: you know, whereas clearly they're not the Lakers, and they
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: just got this team. So this is actually the year
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: you want to face them because you know they need
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: a big because you know, after all, we know they
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: tried to make a trade and it didn't work right,
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: So they're gonna get a big in the offseason. They're
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: gonna be a better team overall, but they got to
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: you know, the old elbows and boxes right and and
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: take away the take away the driving lanes and and
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: force them to shoot threes. But it's like, okay, but
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: it's basically I get the ball. I think we'll see
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: more blitzing because they didn't blitz Aunt as much so
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: behind the three point line to have them get rid
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: of the ball and move on it quicker. But another
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: thing is I noticed Ant didn't bring up the ball
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: a ton either, so they couldn't blitz them, So I
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: thought that was a good adjustment. But yep, so there
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: we're not gonna hit twenty one to forty two from threes.
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: And remember I told you that analytic like they had
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: zero analytically anyway, tough three point shots, most of them
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: beyond that little thing that Nas did where he kind
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: of did a fade himself. Other than that, the threes
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: were wide open. So I think Randall and our two
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: top guys could play better. So yeah, we're gonna not
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: hit as many threes. But I think it's a good matchup.
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: I think it's a good style matchup. But it does
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: bowld the question. If this game's tight, can we out
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: you know, execute a guy like Luca and Lebron, and
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: that's the big I don't know, you know, but we
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: can play small too. If they want to go small,
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: we can go small on no problem at all, Like
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: if they're killing us with it, you know.
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: Well so then to my other point is we kind
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: of wrap up the show night. Is that the obviously
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: the depth, right, that's what I've heard on the podcast
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: hurt from my buddies. You were talking about it, like
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: the Lakers clearly do not have the bench to match
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: what the Wolves bench does. What's your take on that?
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: Obviously Lebron and Luca, Sure, you don't need a deeper bench, right,
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: but the Wolves have maybe eight guys that can rotate
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: through compared to the Lakers, who have a shorter best
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: and a less experienced coach.
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: Yes, and it's not a maybe it is because there's
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: no way we'd have a game where nas Dante and
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: Alexander Walker don't get in the game. If anything, it's
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: Jalen Clark that might be the ninth man, if PC
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: Conley or they're gonna try to get McDaniels in fall
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: problems early. Sure, that was a great defender, yep, And
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: that was the key against Luca. Once McDaniel's not on Luca,
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: it does get weird, no doubt about it does. And
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: he's not even that's not even a great matchup for him.
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: Because difference, like, no one can really stop Luca. Luca
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: is a special freak of zone.
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: But it is like a forty fifty pound difference.
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: Oh oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, you're right.
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: You know what I mean. So that's the only problem. Now,
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: in the first part of the game, it did look
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: like they you know how Luca likes to put people
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: on his hip, and yeah, that's what he was doing
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: with McDonald's last year, and that's what he was doing
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: early in the game. But after that in McDonald's even said,
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: it's more like I just drew a line and I'm
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: not going to play his hip because he gets comfortable
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: and once he gets in that elbow area on his hip,
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: he might as well just give him points. You know,
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: either he's gonna get fouled or whatever.
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: So, but yeah, we're definitely deeper. I mean, we go
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: eight strong. It's not a it's yeah, I think people
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: kind forget we make and take more threes this year.
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: It's more like not last year, but the years before.
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: And yeah, Rudy's not gonna take one. Let's hope maybe randomly.
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: Randall and McDaniels don't get hot from three, but they're
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: not knockdown shooters. But when you talk about Conley and
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: Alexander Walker, Nas and Dante, any of those can go all.
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: Five of those can go off. And and one thing
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: we noticed earlier in the season when they had Randall
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: at center and Nas at the four, it was really
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: bad defensively early in the season. Did it tightened up?
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: And we got a lot of that in this game.
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: And we've actually because Rudy got missed about ten games
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: from a backspasm coming out of the break, and so
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: they played that a lot more where you had nasu
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: in Randall as you're bigs. So it's still a smaller lineup,
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: but a much more versatile offensive scorer with Randall than
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: it is with Rudy. So and if you just want
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: to go small, you know, when Randall was out and
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: Rudy was out, we had McDaniels at the four and
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: Nas at the five. So if you really want to
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: go small, we can go small too if we have to.
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: And that's the thing ever since he started taking Oh
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: was the coach here? Finch? He doesn't care about your
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: feelings like he does. Actually he does during the regular season,
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: and he doesn't get negative on people publicly much. Until
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: he does, he'll really let you have it. But other
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: than that, he's not afraid of NAS's got the hot hand,
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: or this guy's got the hot hand. Let's keep him in.
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: When j Mack was here, j Mack was moving the
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: ball better than D'Angelo. Okay, we'll keep him in. He's
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: not no matter what lineup it is, like you know,
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: those early second and early fourth quarters are always key,
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: like it used to be for Milwaukee with Yawnis. And
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: you know we always hear about those minutes, those couple
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: of minutes at the beginning of second and fourth what
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: can you do and we're in fall problems? Well, honestly,
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: like if that, if that unit and sometimes it's a
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: blend of starters in bench players, if that unit's playing good,
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: he'll keep him till like the six or five minute mark.
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: He's not afraid of that.
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: All right, Well, I'll give you my pick. I'm gonna
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: go Wolves in six.
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: I'm gonna go Wolves in three. I think they'll probably
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: just give up the game. Yeah, we're just gonna walk
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: around the lakes and then take off. No, you know,
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: before I thought I thought he'd be a seven game
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: series for sure. And it's still good because I'm I'm
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: a little weary of our home games. Maybe we'll tighten
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: up this year. Finally. We've been shitty at home though
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: in the playoffs in this year during the regular season.
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: I hate to stress it, but it's so true, and
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: so I'm not there yet. I still think I'm still
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: in the mindset of let's go one and one in
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: game three, in Game four, please, can we at least
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: do that? So I don't know if I'm gonna go
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: Wolves in six, I'll still go Wolves in seven. How
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: about that?
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: Okay, sounds good? Uh? All right, Well that will wrap
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: up the first round of the NBA banter playoff talk,
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: and hey, it's all gonna get better from here. Again,
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: we always seem to watch those game sevens in round one.
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: We don't always get them. But I do think the
- 1:21:34Speaker 2: West is wide open this year. I think that we
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: could easily have like any but okay, besides Memphis, who's
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: in some deep trouble, and Houston who appears to be
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: in some trouble. I think the other six teams could
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: win the West.
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: Yeah, thinking about it, dude, here's the thing, like Golden's
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: they want this, Dude, look at the matchup. It's possibly
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: the Lakers in Golden State in the round two. So
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: we'll see how the whistle goes, you know what I mean.
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: And the NBA is a sometimes weird shit happens when
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: you want certain things to happen. NBA like no other sport,
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: it can cause weird stuff. You're right, you're right. Uh,
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: those those that I think they use pagers out and
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: let the rest know about these calls because they figure
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: people don't track pagers anymore. So yeah, I don't know.
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: Well they can just do it on the signal chat
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: or whatever that app you know.
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: The whole governments ran out of the things though. Why
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: might as well throw that on there.
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: Too for for you and my either two good buddies
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: who are diehard Wolves fans, this fan base. Hey, I
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: I hope you all win the series. I do so.
- 1:22:46Speaker 2: On that note, Hey, we'll be back next week. As
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: Chris said, sometimes the scheduled fluctuates a little bit, but
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: we will definitely be back, and then we'll be discussing uh,
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: the Round one series as we're kind of like three
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: to four games deep in that window, we'll speaking of
- 1:22:59Speaker 2: NBA cooking UH giving the Lakers and the Wolves a
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: three day break between the games one and two. All well, yeah,
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: let go old Lebron rest up a little bit, like
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: that's a lot of time for that man to heal up.
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: I know the guy's got like an immortal body, but hang,
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: those three days off were a lot better than it
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: used to be for when he was younger, you know.
- 1:23:17Speaker 2: So anyways, we'll see uh and again as usual. Hey,
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: stay home, stay well. I normally I'm used to doing
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: cult football, So stay inside and stay warmed. Hey, this
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: time of the year, get outside, play some golf, enjoy
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: walking around the lake. The boys are out. Have a
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: good night.
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: Peace,
