- 0:00The case that we'll be covering today is one that is not only
- 0:04perplexing, but utterly terrifying.
- 0:07It is also one that peaked my interest pretty early on in my
- 0:10research of the paranormal and as I've started to do, this is a
- 0:15revisited story, which means that I'm correcting any previous
- 0:20false information from my original research throughout the
- 0:23video, adding new information to the case and I've remastered the
- 0:28video and audio for a better watching experience.
- 0:31I'm also coming on camera a little more often to prove to
- 0:34YouTube and hopefully the the wider audience or perhaps those
- 0:38that aren't familiar with my work that happened to stumble
- 0:40upon it, that I am certainly not AI.
- 0:44So I just wanted to get that out there.
- 0:46I did also want to give a quick shout out to Isabel, who's done
- 0:50some editing work for me in the past and she made me this
- 0:53really, really cool protection pendant and I believe it's
- 0:57Amethyst if I'm not mistaken. There's also a blessed medallion
- 1:01and a picture of Saint Michael the Archangel.
- 1:05So thank you very much, Isabel. Fun fact, my middle name's
- 1:08actually Michael, and it was named after Saint Michael the
- 1:12Archangel. So thanks Mom and Dad, but
- 1:16without further ado. Let's re.
- 1:18Explore the chilling story of the haunting of Bobby Mackey's
- 1:22music world and the possession of Carl Lawson here on Mystery
- 1:28Archives. When a man goes to fulfill his
- 1:32dream, what price is he willing to pay?
- 1:35Is it worth losing everything he loves?
- 1:38Is it worth awakening an old evil, a force that seems
- 1:42determined to attack the living and overtake the weak?
- 1:47This story is a strange and unique tale of a place where a
- 1:50portal to hell is said to exist. This is the untold story of the
- 1:55demonic Bobby Mackey's music world located in Wilder, KY, and
- 2:01this is not a story you want to experience with the lights off.
- 2:17Our story begins in Wilder, KY, where an abandoned Music Hall
- 2:21now sits off the banks of the Licking River.
- 2:25Country singer Bobby Mackey visits the property with a real
- 2:28estate agent in search of fulfilling A lifelong dream.
- 2:32After hitting success in the music scene, allowing him to
- 2:35leave his job at the railroad and pursue music full time, He's
- 2:40been on the road touring for nearly 12 years.
- 2:43He loves what he does, but he loves someone more, his wife
- 2:47Janet, who's pregnant with their first child.
- 2:50Wanting to settle down and plant some roots, start a family, he
- 2:54thinks this could be the perfect opportunity.
- 2:57Bobby has always wanted to open a Music Hall, a nightclub suited
- 3:01for his particular style of country, and wandering the
- 3:05ballroom and gazing at the now empty bar of this former
- 3:09rock'n'roll venue, he can visualize exactly what he's been
- 3:12dreaming about for all these years.
- 3:15So after the tour, with a few moments of thought, he decides
- 3:19to purchase it. But little did he know, he was
- 3:22purchasing so much more than he had bargained for.
- 3:26Later that day, Bobby would return with Janet to show her
- 3:29the place that they were now in the process of purchasing.
- 3:33From the moment she laid eyes on the property, Janet felt that
- 3:36there was something ominous about it and energy about the
- 3:39place just felt off. After unlocking the front door
- 3:43and stepping inside for the first time, and upon surveying
- 3:46the inside with Bobby, at her husband's recommendation, she
- 3:50went into the kitchen alone while he grabbed some items from
- 3:54their truck. As she walked around looking at
- 3:56the various equipment, she began to hear a muffled voice calling
- 4:00out from the sink. A gargled female voice.
- 4:05But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't make out
- 4:08what it was trying to say. As she experienced this, it
- 4:12deeply disturbed her. Calling out for Bobby, she heard
- 4:16nothing in response. She then ran out the kitchen
- 4:19doors and into the ballroom where she could see Bobby
- 4:23starting to walk back in through the main doors.
- 4:26She asked who he was talking to and he said no one, that it was
- 4:30just him and her and the entire building, saying that she heard
- 4:34voices. Bobby dismissed her, thinking
- 4:37that perhaps hormones were affecting her on account of the
- 4:40pregnancy. She again would let him know
- 4:43that she didn't have a good feeling about the building and
- 4:46time would tell that she would be right.
- 4:49Although his wife disapproved and wanted the two of them to
- 4:52sleep on the idea some more. Bobby transfixed by the vision
- 4:56he had for a literal dream come true scenario in his own words.
- 5:01I couldn't be stopped. I had to have the place.
- 5:05Shortly after this conversation would take place, he would sign
- 5:09the paperwork, attain the banknote, and officially own the
- 5:13property. Upon signing his name on the
- 5:15dotted line, Bobby never looks back.
- 5:19Although Janice didn't want him to, she still tries to be a
- 5:22supportive wife. Although something frightens her
- 5:25about the place, she still assists Bobby with mild
- 5:28renovations as she can. One day, as Bobby paints some
- 5:32walls and Janice sweeps around the bar, a stranger walks
- 5:36through the front doors of the Music Hall, introducing himself
- 5:40as Carl Lawson. He tells Bobby that he noticed
- 5:43that he was the new owner and that he had worked for the
- 5:46previous owners as a handyman, but had unfortunately been out
- 5:51of the job ever since the club had closed due to several
- 5:54particularly brutal murders taking place upon its grounds.
- 5:59In later interviews he would say this.
- 6:02Any bar or nightclub is going to have its fair share of fights,
- 6:05but the amount of violence that seemed to take place here, the
- 6:08type of crowd it attracted seemed abnormal to me.
- 6:13The last year the club was previously open was the most
- 6:16brutal was six homicides taking place.
- 6:20Upon hearing Carl's story, Bobby quickly dismissed the idea of
- 6:24the nightclub becoming a hotspot for violence.
- 6:27He believed that the type of music was what could have caused
- 6:30people to be more violent, and since the club was going to play
- 6:34traditional country music and not anything rock related, he
- 6:38believed it would attract a very different crowd.
- 6:41After a brief inquiry about his skill set, Bobby decides to hire
- 6:45Carl as a full time caretaker and handyman for the nightclub
- 6:49in due time time. As per their arrangement, he
- 6:52would live in the attic of the property.
- 6:54As the renovations ramped up to get the club ready for opening,
- 6:58Carl and Janice found themselves working on projects together
- 7:02throughout the building. They began to get along and
- 7:05their friendship was like a big sister and a little brother.
- 7:09One afternoon, Janice asked Carl if he had ever experienced
- 7:12anything strange inside the club, and to her surprise, he
- 7:16told her that he believed that there was so much more than met
- 7:19the eye about this place, that there was some kind of force
- 7:23that made people violent here, and that the two of them should
- 7:26keep a lookout for one another. Following this brief
- 7:29conversation, Carl will go back to painting walls near the stage
- 7:34and Janice would resume washing dishes in the kitchen.
- 7:37As she toiled away, she began to hear an all too familiar sound.
- 7:42A muffled gurgling kind of sound similar to what she had heard
- 7:47the very first time that she had visited the property.
- 7:50To her absolute horror, she glanced down into the sink that
- 7:54the sound was emanating from and saw a thick blood like liquid
- 7:59guzzling up from the drain. It then began to fill up the
- 8:02sink. As she stepped backwards,
- 8:05preparing to call for Carl's help, she felt someone or
- 8:09something grabbed the back of her head and physically pushed
- 8:13her towards the sink. For what seemed like an
- 8:15eternity, she braced herself with her hands against the sink
- 8:19as she screamed for help, only to feel the pressure released as
- 8:24soon as Carl ran into the kitchen.
- 8:26As she fell backwards, she began to hysterically tell Carl about
- 8:30what had just happened, that something had tried to hurt her
- 8:34and that the sink was full of blood.
- 8:37However, upon examining the sink, Carl didn't see anything,
- 8:42and neither did Janet. Now it was completely clean.
- 8:46The two would continue to talk until Janet calmed down.
- 8:50They would also come to the conclusion that whatever
- 8:52presence that dwelled within the walls of this club was not
- 8:56friendly and it was not playing games.
- 8:59It had become violent. Once she had collected herself,
- 9:03Janet tracked Bobby down and confronted him about what had
- 9:06just happened to her, but he didn't believe her, thinking his
- 9:10wife had gone crazy. He also called Carl over and
- 9:14told him that he didn't want her filling her head with any more
- 9:17ideas about ghosts. Janet would retort that she in
- 9:20fact asked Carl if he had experienced anything and not the
- 9:24other way around, but nonetheless, Bobby refused to
- 9:28believe either of them. He didn't believe in ghosts or
- 9:31the paranormal, and his only concern was getting this bar up
- 9:35and running so that he could make his money back.
- 9:38But in due time, he would see that perhaps they were right.
- 9:42Within a week of these conversations taking place,
- 9:45another event would happen. A police officer by the name of
- 9:48Larry Hornsby was making his usual patrol rounds, which
- 9:52happened to go by the club. As he drove through the parking
- 9:55lot, he spotted a figure behind the window and the door of the
- 9:59club open. Thinking that someone had broke
- 10:01in, he quickly calls it in and asks for backup to investigate.
- 10:06Once another officer arrives, the pair cautiously make their
- 10:10way inside with guns drawn and flashlights out.
- 10:14As they scan the bar for the potential burglar, they spot
- 10:17nothing and they don't hear anything either.
- 10:21If anything, it's eerily quiet. However, that was until music
- 10:26began blasting from behind the stage.
- 10:29What sounded like jazz was being played, and the sounds of people
- 10:33laughing and talking could be heard as they announced their
- 10:36presence. The officers made their way to
- 10:39where the music was coming from, but as soon as Officer Hornsby
- 10:43threw back the curtain, the music stopped.
- 10:47Unsure of what to make of the situation, the two officers
- 10:51looked at each other and became even more unnerved when the
- 10:54front door slammed shut. They raced through the club and
- 10:58out the front door, ready to pursue whoever they believed to
- 11:01be there, but upon a thorough search, they again would find no
- 11:05one. It's also important to know that
- 11:08there was little to no wind this very night.
- 11:11Hornsby would later say that the two of us were stunned, but I
- 11:15couldn't put it in a report that we had encountered some kind of
- 11:18ghost. I would be the laughingstock, or
- 11:21they'd send me to a psychiatrist.
- 11:23So I Simply put that we had gone through the building but didn't
- 11:26find any burglars. But I know what I heard, and I
- 11:30know what I saw, and I wasn't the only one there.
- 11:33Two nights following this happening, Officer Hornsby would
- 11:37find himself again outside of the nightclub, but this time for
- 11:40a very different reason. A woman had lost control of her
- 11:44vehicle and hit the light pole in the nightclub's parking lot,
- 11:48a crash that was fatal. Not having anything to cover the
- 11:51body once it was removed from the vehicle, as the officer
- 11:55called it in, a woman tapped him on the shoulder and handed him a
- 11:59tablecloth. She then walked back into the
- 12:01nightclub once the scene was clear.
- 12:05Accompanied with several officers, Hornsby knocked on the
- 12:08door in hopes of thanking the woman for her assistance.
- 12:12However, the doors were locked and there were no signs of life
- 12:15within the club. The following morning, the
- 12:18officer and his partner would make contact with Bobby Mackey
- 12:21to inform him of what had taken place.
- 12:24Upon telling him of the woman who came out of the club,
- 12:27brought them the tablecloth and then went back inside thinking
- 12:30that she was a waitress, Bobby shocked them by telling them
- 12:34that he hadn't hired any staff yet besides Carl Lawson, and
- 12:38that the club would have been completely locked up and that he
- 12:41and his wife were sound asleep when this event would have
- 12:43occurred. Not sure of what to make of
- 12:46this, the officers simply thanked him and left.
- 12:50Bobby, despite the credibility of the officers, still didn't
- 12:54believe that there was anything supernatural about the
- 12:56nightclub. Later that afternoon, as Carl
- 13:00was changing light bulbs upstairs, he accidentally drops
- 13:04and breaks the last good one that he had.
- 13:06As he walks down the stairs to grab several more, he encounters
- 13:10Janet, who asked what that sound was.
- 13:13Upon telling her, she sends him off while she decides to sweep
- 13:17up the glass at the top of the stairs.
- 13:19As she finishes sweeping the glass into a pile.
- 13:22As she turns to grab the dustpan, she's shoved from
- 13:26behind. Panicked, she begins to
- 13:28hyperventilate because that was close to the edge of the stairs,
- 13:33and suddenly again, she's pushed, causing her to fall down
- 13:37the stairs. She's found by Carl, who then
- 13:41screams for Bobby, but before he gets to them, Janice tells Carl
- 13:45that something pushed her down those stairs.
- 13:48The three then load up as quickly as they can and rush to
- 13:51the hospital. The fall causes Janet to go into
- 13:54premature labor and give birth to a baby girl weighing only 1
- 13:59LB and 15 oz. The next several weeks are tense
- 14:03as the new parents monitor their baby, unsure if she's going to
- 14:07make it, but thankfully, against the odds, she does.
- 14:12Approximately 3 weeks later, as his newly born daughter and wife
- 14:15are released from the hospital, Bobby prepares for the grand
- 14:19opening of what he's amply named Bobby Mackey's Music World.
- 14:23Although he is present physically, he is numb
- 14:26emotionally. He feels as if the world is on
- 14:29his shoulders because this night could make or break the club's
- 14:32reputation and coming off the heels of what had just taken
- 14:36place within his family, he was raw to say the least.
- 14:40He overhears a customer talking about ghosts and that almost
- 14:43sends him over the edge. He quickly finds Carl behind the
- 14:47bar and confronts him. He tells him that he will no
- 14:50longer have a job if he continues to tell customers
- 14:53about ghosts, and that he didn't want to hear any more about it
- 14:56because he has to focus on this business for his family.
- 15:00That he didn't want to hear any more nonsense.
- 15:02That this hall was to be known for great country music and not
- 15:06for the ghosts that didn't exist.
- 15:09Although he feels a presence, and although he and Janet have
- 15:12spoken several times about their experiences between a rock and a
- 15:16hard place, Carl decides to hold his tongue and agree with the
- 15:21man who's paying his salary. Several weeks after the grand
- 15:24opening, Carl would move into the attic above the club, which
- 15:28had since been converted into an apartment of sorts, another perk
- 15:32of being the handyman at Bobby Mackey's music world.
- 15:35But as a result of this moving forward, he spends every night
- 15:39there alone. He felt as if he wasn't just a
- 15:43handyman, but a caretaker of sorts.
- 15:46As if something kept drawing him back to the property and unless
- 15:50he had a pressing matter to leave, he wouldn't.
- 15:53He would just stay there, protecting the club, watching
- 15:57over it. One night as he finished
- 15:59stacking chairs on tables around the bar, as he steps towards the
- 16:03light switch to turn them off and head to his loft, he hears a
- 16:07strange noise behind him. Turning to observe where the
- 16:11source could be coming from, he sees the chairs begin to rattle
- 16:16and shake as he stares in disbelief.
- 16:19The chairs then are flung in all different directions.
- 16:23This terrifies Carl and he rushes up to his apartment where
- 16:27he barricades himself in for the night.
- 16:30Over the next several weeks, he's in a state of denial about
- 16:33what he had seen. Trying to come to terms with his
- 16:36trauma, Carl takes to cleaning. One night he finds himself down
- 16:41in the storage room of the club where he finds a loose board on
- 16:45the floor. Upon prying it out to then
- 16:48replace it, he finds a bundle of old looking cloth.
- 16:52He picks it up and unravels it in his hands.
- 16:55Inside the cloth is an old journal.
- 16:58As he reads it, he discovers that it belonged to a woman
- 17:02named Johanna, who had been a dancer at the club during the
- 17:051930s. Over the next several days, he
- 17:09reads to the entire journal and learns her story.
- 17:13She had fallen in love with a musician who her father
- 17:15despised, and her father had told her that he would kill this
- 17:20man before he'd let him marry her.
- 17:22One day, the man in which she loved suddenly wasn't around the
- 17:26club. He had gone missing and she had
- 17:29just found out that she was pregnant.
- 17:32Thinking her father had something to do with this, she
- 17:35calculated, planned and then poisoned her father and then
- 17:40herself. The final entry in the diary
- 17:43proclaimed that she would roam the halls of the club for all
- 17:46eternity, waiting for her lover to return to her.
- 17:50After finishing her journal while laying in his bed, Carl
- 17:53decided to finally get some sleep, but a storm was brewing
- 17:57outside but also inside of the club.
- 18:01He wakes up choking and coughing, unable to catch his
- 18:05breath as lightning illuminates the room and Thunder rocks the
- 18:09club with rain smacking the windows behind his head.
- 18:13Carl finally manages to catch his breath, but he's unable to
- 18:17go back to sleep, and several minutes later the power goes
- 18:21out. Being the handyman that he is,
- 18:24he grabs a flashlight and makes his way towards the basement
- 18:28where the breaker box is located.
- 18:30As he tries to flip the breaker back, he's unsuccessful and
- 18:34drops his flashlight, which then rolls towards the center of the
- 18:37basement room, not ever having spent much time down there.
- 18:42Upon grabbing his flashlight, Carl stumbles upon a latch that
- 18:45he's never seen before. So, as any curious mind would,
- 18:49he decides to open it up. With only the lightning lighting
- 18:53up the room on occasion. Along with his flashlight, he
- 18:57discovers what appears to be a well in the basement of Bobby
- 19:00Mackey's. Not sure of what to make of
- 19:03this, he closes the latch back up and begins to make his way
- 19:08towards the breaker box once again.
- 19:10But several feet into making his way back, he's frozen in his
- 19:14tracks. Standing before him are the
- 19:17apparitions of two men, and although he can barely make out
- 19:21their faces, what he can see when the lightning strikes looks
- 19:25menacing. He steps back into the basement
- 19:28room. As he begins to hyperventilate
- 19:30with fear. He hears footsteps coming
- 19:33towards him and then the sound of a woman screaming coming from
- 19:38underneath his feet. He is standing directly over the
- 19:41well. He then feels a presence
- 19:43overtake him and he loses consciousness.
- 19:47He would open his eyes upon Daybreak and would rush back
- 19:51upstairs, returning several minutes later with a blessed
- 19:54vial of holy water that he had in his possession.
- 19:58He believed that if he poured the holy water down the well
- 20:01that it would help keep whatever evil that was down there from
- 20:04coming back up there. So he does just that and then
- 20:08returns back upstairs to a way to begin the work day with
- 20:12Bobby. However, his actions don't seem
- 20:16to work. Over the course of the next
- 20:18three weeks, Carl seems to undergo a radical change in
- 20:21personality. He began to seem darker, more
- 20:25angry and aggressive, which was a far cry from the timid and
- 20:30easygoing guy that Bobby and Janet had come to know.
- 20:34His moods were becoming unpredictable.
- 20:36Bobby would later say that it got to the point that I wasn't
- 20:39sure which Carl I was talking to on a daily basis.
- 20:43Carl also began to carry a crucifix with him in hopes of
- 20:47warding off evil that he now believed was coming from the
- 20:50well in the basement and attempting to take over his
- 20:53body. These strange interactions
- 20:55between Bobby, Carl and Janet prompted multiple arguments
- 20:59between Bobby and Janet, with Janet believing that something
- 21:03spiritual was affecting Carl and Bobby believing that the two of
- 21:06them were nuts and that he had more important things like the
- 21:10business to worry about. Several weeks later, in an
- 21:14attempt to further expand his business's reach, Bobby would
- 21:17film a commercial for his establishment and would have his
- 21:20friend, who was a journalist, be present, hopefully to get a good
- 21:23article circulating before too long.
- 21:26Upon speaking with his friend Doug Hensley about how things
- 21:30were going after the commercial shoot had finished, Bobby would
- 21:33confined in him that business wise things were going pretty
- 21:36good, but that his wife and Carl Lawson couldn't stop talking
- 21:40about ghosts. Although he didn't believe in
- 21:43it, his friend was intrigued. Being a writer.
- 21:46He asked why Bobby had kept this a secret and his response was
- 21:50that he didn't want the reputation of the Music Hall
- 21:53being tainted by rumors of ghosts because a lot of people
- 21:56were scared of ghosts and it could also affect the type of
- 21:59people who would come. Asking if he could speak with
- 22:02Carl and Janet, Bobby agreed. The following afternoon, Doug
- 22:07would interview Carl and Janet without Bobby being present to
- 22:10try and understand what they thought they were experiencing.
- 22:14Upon asking Carl his thoughts, Doug would be met with a
- 22:17straightforward answer. Carl would tell him that this
- 22:21place is evil. Over the course of the
- 22:24interview, the two would tell him their experiences, including
- 22:27Carl discovering Johanna's diary, the well in the basement,
- 22:31and the two men he saw that stormy night.
- 22:34And that he only continued to stay at the property as its
- 22:37caretaker to protect Janet and Bobby from whatever malevolent
- 22:41force that infested its walls. And that this force, despite his
- 22:46best efforts to leave, always seemed to draw him back.
- 22:50Being a skeptic, but accepting the stories at face value, Doug
- 22:54concluded the interview by thanking them.
- 22:57The following day, he compiled his notes and went to the local
- 23:00library to research the history of the property.
- 23:04Believing that Carl Lawson was schizophrenic, he didn't think
- 23:07any of the information would check out, but as he began to
- 23:10dig, his mind would begin to change.
- 23:14Upon laying eyes on a 19th century article from the
- 23:17Kentucky Post, he was strangely intrigued.
- 23:20In 1897, two men, one by the name of Alonzo Walling and the
- 23:26other by the name of Scott Jackson, were hung for the
- 23:29murder of a woman named Pearl. Bryan Ryan's headless corpse was
- 23:34found near the site of an old slaughterhouse in Wilder.
- 23:38She had been a Sunday school teacher and was 5 1/2 months
- 23:42pregnant at the time of her demise.
- 23:45Scott Jackson had been a former boyfriend of Pearls and Alonzo
- 23:49Walling had been his roommate at dental school.
- 23:52It's alleged that the two attempted to remove the child
- 23:55but failed and removed Pearls head instead in an attempt to
- 23:59keep her from being identified. Rumors quickly circulated that
- 24:03the two were practicing Satanists and in a ritual
- 24:07sacrifice to Satan himself, killed Pearl and her unborn
- 24:11child. Despite several searches around
- 24:14Kentucky and in the Ohio River, her head was never found.
- 24:19The only things that the killers would tell authorities was that
- 24:23it was in a deep, dark place and would never be seen again.
- 24:28As the two men were asked to give their final words before
- 24:31meeting their own fates at the gallows, Alonzo Walling gave an
- 24:34eerie last couple of sentences. He said that he would come back
- 24:39from hell and haunt everyone involved in his trial and the
- 24:42location where Pearl Bryan's head was.
- 24:46When searching for Pearl's head. Bloodhounds LED investigators to
- 24:50the old slaughterhouse, and although it was never proven, it
- 24:53was speculated that the two men had disposed of it by dropping
- 24:57it in the old well located in the basement as part of their
- 25:01ritual. The club now known as Bobby
- 25:04Mackey's Music World now rests on top of the foundation of that
- 25:08very same slaughterhouse. Between the time it was a
- 25:11slaughterhouse and into the 20th century before it was a
- 25:15nightclub, there were documented incidents involving law
- 25:19enforcement at the time catching various groups performing
- 25:23rituals in the basement around that well.
- 25:26They would typically perform blood sacrifices of small
- 25:29animals as offerings, believing it to be a portal of sorts due
- 25:33to how much blood had been spilt and soaked into the land when
- 25:37the property had been a slaughterhouse.
- 25:40A main drain pipe would guide the blood from the floor where
- 25:43it would then drain off into the Licking River.
- 25:46Doug began to speculate that the two men Carl had seen that night
- 25:50when he discovered the well could have very well have been
- 25:53the spirits of Alonzo Walling and Scott Jackson.
- 25:56Because he believed the two, for whatever reason, Satanic or not,
- 26:01had disposed of her head in that well.
- 26:03And now they haunted the grounds of the club.
- 26:06The mystery also deepens. Through his research, Doug
- 26:11Hensley had gone from a hard skeptic to a convinced believer.
- 26:15He now thought that angry spirits inhabited the grounds of
- 26:19Bobby Mackey's music world, and through his research, he also
- 26:23noticed a disturbing pattern. Pearl Bryan had been 5 1/2
- 26:27months pregnant at the time of her demise.
- 26:30According to her diary entries, Johanna, right before her demise
- 26:35was 5 1/2 months pregnant and Janet had also been 5 1/2 months
- 26:40pregnant when she was pushed down the stairs.
- 26:43Once he had finished researching and putting the story together
- 26:46with that research, he asked to meet with Bobby, Janet, and Carl
- 26:51several weeks later. He would tell them about his
- 26:53convictions as well as this pattern.
- 26:56The pattern in particular, given what Janet had experienced,
- 27:00concerned him the most, which prompted him to ask Bobby to
- 27:04allow them to do something about it.
- 27:06And although he doesn't personally believe in spirits,
- 27:09he's known Doug a long time and knows that he's a sensible
- 27:12person with a good head on his shoulders.
- 27:15So going against his wishes, Bobby gives him the go ahead to
- 27:19do what he thinks needs to be done.
- 27:21It takes several more weeks, but arrangements are made.
- 27:24And in an effort to bring peace to whatever spirits that seem to
- 27:28be lurking within the nightclub, A psychic by the name of
- 27:31Patricia Michelle was brought in.
- 27:34She was given no prior knowledge of the history or story behind
- 27:39it. Upon her arrival, she met Carl
- 27:41Lawson and he quickly began to say what he thought was
- 27:44happening within the club. She would ask him to please keep
- 27:47any information to himself so she wouldn't be influenced as
- 27:51she did her walkthrough. During her time roaming Bobby
- 27:55Mackey's, Patricia would sense and speak with a spirit.
- 27:59Upon asking her name, she was told that it was Johanna.
- 28:03When asking Johanna why she remained here, she was told that
- 28:07she knew that she was dead, but that she had chosen to stay in
- 28:11regards to what she believed to be taking place there.
- 28:14Patricia Michelle would later say this.
- 28:17I believe that there are spirits inhabiting Bobby Mackey's
- 28:20establishment and I believe that they have chosen to stay here
- 28:24rather than move on and face what they believe will be a
- 28:27place where they will burn for all eternity.
- 28:30Upon surveying the basement, she asked to open up the latched
- 28:34board on the floor to reveal the well below.
- 28:37As she stared down into the well, she gasped and told
- 28:42everyone present that there was the head of a woman there.
- 28:46She then fell back and was overcome with a horrible bout of
- 28:49nausea. It was then coupled by cold
- 28:52sweats and the spins until she left the club several hours
- 28:57later. She would return once she was
- 28:59feeling able bodied again to meet with everyone and discuss
- 29:03how she felt about what she had uncovered.
- 29:06As she sat down at the table with Janet, Doug and Carl and
- 29:09several of her own people, she noticed that Carl was trembling.
- 29:13She then saw two men standing behind him and the feeling she
- 29:18got when she saw them was one of overwhelming dread and malice.
- 29:23She believed that these spirits have been oppressing Carl and
- 29:27were trying to wear him down to the point to where they could
- 29:30use his body. Fearing that Carl would soon
- 29:33become possessed, Patricia would recommend that he seek help from
- 29:36a minister to help break this attachment.
- 29:40After divulging the rest of her feelings to everyone, Patricia
- 29:43would then leave. Several days later, Doug would
- 29:47contact and bring in a Pentecostal minister to meet
- 29:50with Carl. Upon stepping foot in the club,
- 29:54the minister told Doug before meeting Carl that this was the
- 29:57most evil place he had ever stepped foot in.
- 30:01That he had been doing this for years and had never seen or felt
- 30:04anything like it. And if Carl was experiencing
- 30:07what he was experiencing, let alone living in a place like
- 30:11this, that he certainly was, or was on the cusp of being
- 30:15demonically possessed and needed help.
- 30:17Immediately upon meeting Carl for the first time, he knew what
- 30:22he had said to be true. He then followed Carl into the
- 30:25kitchen where the two sat at a table together for his own
- 30:29documentation. He placed a video camera to
- 30:31record their interaction and then the minister began to pray
- 30:35over him. As he prayed aloud, Carl began
- 30:38to contort and grimace. Then when asked his name, he
- 30:43spoke back to the preacher in a voice that was not his own.
- 30:47He responded with My name is Alonzo and I pray to know God.
- 30:52The minister then commanded Alonzo to leave Carl's body.
- 30:56Carl then fell back off his chair and onto the floor and
- 30:59began to twist and scream. The minister then called for the
- 31:03other men to come and surround Carl.
- 31:05Due to his violent outbursts, he didn't want to be injured, nor
- 31:08did he want Carl to injure himself.
- 31:11As the men restrained Carl, he began to scream at them in
- 31:14Latin, which the minister spoke. However, he then went from
- 31:18speaking Latin to speaking English backwards, saying Natas
- 31:23ma I, natas ma I or forwards I am Satan, which they wouldn't
- 31:30know until they watch the tape back later.
- 31:33After an hour of praying and demanding that the spirit leave
- 31:36Carl's body, Carl would scream in what sounded like two men
- 31:40screaming in unison for several seconds, and everyone present
- 31:45felt a cold rush of wind blow past them as Carl now lay
- 31:49silent, breathing heavily. He would finally come to several
- 31:53minutes later, and he didn't recall what had happened.
- 31:57He would later say that when I woke up, everyone was looking at
- 32:00me and I was on the floor. I didn't know what happened.
- 32:04Several days following the exorcism, Carl would decide that
- 32:08it was time for him to move on. He no longer felt tethered to
- 32:11the property and said that he began to feel like himself
- 32:14again. He thanked the Mackeys for
- 32:17employing and befriending him and then left in search of a new
- 32:20opportunity. Following Carl's departure.
- 32:23Janet Mackie did not want to be at the club, given everything
- 32:26that she had experienced, and so she wouldn't be.
- 32:30She would instead opt to stay at home with her now healthy baby
- 32:33girl. And before we get to the end of
- 32:35this perplexing paranormal story, I do have some additional
- 32:39history I'd like to share with you about Bobby Mackie's.
- 32:43So far we're familiar with Pearl Bryan and the fact that the
- 32:46property was built on the foundation of an old
- 32:49slaughterhouse, and that in between the time of its
- 32:52demolishing and rebuilding as a club, it was a supposed hotbed
- 32:56for satanic cult activity. But upon further investigation,
- 33:01we would also prove Johanna's existence as well.
- 33:04Once it was rebuilt and resold. The club has an interesting
- 33:07story. It would reopen as a Roadhouse,
- 33:10and the Roadhouse would become an illicit bar and gambling den
- 33:14known better by the name of Primrose.
- 33:17The Primrose was a Speakeasy ran by the mob, and as a result of
- 33:21its owners, it became a hotbed for violence.
- 33:24It would change ownership in the 1950s.
- 33:27It would also change its name to the Latin Quarter.
- 33:30Johanna was a dancer there, and she was also the daughter of the
- 33:34club's owner. She had fallen in love with a
- 33:36singer named Robert Randall and ended up pregnant with his
- 33:40child. Having a strong dislike for
- 33:43Robert, her father found this out and was enraged.
- 33:46He would have Robert killed as a result.
- 33:49Depressed by the death of Robert, Johanna then poisoned
- 33:52herself in the basement right above where the well was.
- 33:56But despite this research, her diary and her poisoning her
- 34:00father could not be confirmed. The Latin Quarter would remain
- 34:04open until 1978, until a series of shootings and subsequential
- 34:08law enforcement pressure forced it to close its doors.
- 34:12It would then be purchased by Bobby Mackey several months
- 34:15later. To this day, Bobby Mackey still
- 34:18says that he himself has never experienced any supernatural
- 34:21occurrences, but many people who have visited, however, have.
- 34:25A sign now hangs within Bobby Mackey's walls that serves as a
- 34:29warning to all patrons that the club cannot be held liable for
- 34:33anything that happens to them as a result of the ghosts.
- 34:37And despite still not being a believer, given everything that
- 34:40he has seen, his mantra has long since been come for the ghosts
- 34:46and stay for the music. But if Bobby Mackey's was
- 34:49haunted, could there have been a force, perhaps keeping him blind
- 34:53to it all, driving and keeping his hunger alive?
- 34:57And if Bobby Mackey's music world is indeed haunted, perhaps
- 35:00underneath its floorboards, deep in the bowels of the basement,
- 35:05inside of the old well, a portal to hell still exists.
- 35:09Whatever evil that lingers there perhaps slithers out of it
- 35:14whenever it feels the proper opportunity to exploit the weak.
- 35:19Don't let it be you. So I'd mentioned I'm correcting
- 35:24information that I may have gotten incorrect, as well as
- 35:27adding new information to this case as a whole.
- 35:31And with that being said, I'm going to start the process here
- 35:34in no particular order. So Janet Mackie, Bobby's wife
- 35:38during the events portrayed, was one of the first individuals to
- 35:42experience spiritual attack within Bobby Mackie's music
- 35:45world. She was pushed down the stairs,
- 35:47as mentioned. But what I don't think I
- 35:49mentioned is that she believed that the spirit who actually
- 35:53attacked her was Alonzo Walling, one of the individuals who was
- 35:58responsible for the death of Pearl Bryant.
- 36:01Janet unfortunately passed away in 2009 and may she rest in
- 36:07peace. Carl Lawson became an integral.
- 36:10Part of this story as a whole. And was allegedly possessed.
- 36:14And now I have to be entirely honest, having watched all
- 36:18available footage, I don't doubt that he could have perhaps been
- 36:22oppressed by something dark that maybe was stalking him whilst he
- 36:26was working and living out of Bobby Mackey's.
- 36:29However, a lot of what has become a legendary event is
- 36:34speculative at best. And what I mean by that is,
- 36:38frankly, there's some pretty funny parts of the video I'm
- 36:42going to show you if you have a dark sense of humor like I do of
- 36:45Carl's Exorcism. And it's really not all that
- 36:48convincing. I'm going to play some clips
- 36:51here just now and you can judge things for yourself.
- 36:55Because he knows that I've got something in me that's greater
- 36:59than him. And I've got something in me
- 37:02that's greater than you, Charlie.
- 37:04You understand that? You understand that, huh?
- 37:16Oh, no. No.
- 37:17Girls fighting. No.
- 37:19No, that's so little son of bitch.
- 37:22You listen to me. That's so little son of bitchy
- 37:25Carl. No, it's fighting Carl.
- 37:27Is not that Carl's a good person that you?
- 37:29It's time for you to leave. I try to keep him away.
- 37:33I try to keep him away from church.
- 37:36Ever since he was a little kid, all he wanted to do was go to
- 37:39school and pray. That's all he ever wanted to do.
- 37:41But I got him right around here on his bicycle one day, and he
- 37:46didn't know what happened to him when he found these $5 in the
- 37:49back. I know he didn't know what
- 37:51happened to him. But you did.
- 37:54And he entertained you. And now then you're trying to
- 37:58take him over and you're trying to rule his life.
- 38:00And I'm here to put a stop to it.
- 38:02You understand that? You understand that, Charlie?
- 38:07Carl's so fucking stupid. You understand that, Charlie.
- 38:11And I, you quit telling Carl he's stupid.
- 38:14You hear me? You understand me?
- 38:23Now I'm telling you it's time for you to leave.
- 38:28Because you know what I have right here.
- 38:32Right here. And you know what?
- 38:35It is Stupid Fucking fuck. Yeah.
- 38:39Yeah, that's what you think. This right here is inside of me,
- 38:44though, and you know it because you recognize it.
- 38:50Is it time for Charlie to leave? Huh.
- 38:58It's time for Charlie to leave, Charlie.
- 39:08In the name of Jesus, Charlie, I command you to leave.
- 39:17You understand? You understand?
- 39:20Charlie, talk to me. Come on, Carl.
- 39:35Stop. Carl.
- 39:38Come on now. Leave him alone.
- 39:41Leave him. Leaving.
- 39:45Leaving. Leaving.
- 39:48Leaving. Yeah, yeah.
- 39:55Fuck you. Leaving.
- 39:59Leaving, Charlie. Fuck everybody.
- 40:03Leave him, Charlie. Fuck everybody.
- 40:05Leave him, Charlie. He's fine.
- 40:09Leave him, Charlie. He's fine, man of God.
- 40:13Leave him back. We've been here for 1000 fucking
- 40:16years. Leave him.
- 40:17We're going to stay here. He fed.
- 40:20Carl's worth this whole fucking town.
- 40:22Leave him. Do you fed?
- 40:25Now I will say take it with a grain of salt here and I am in
- 40:29no way shape or form to clarify trying to throw dirt on Carl's
- 40:33name or his narrative or anything like that.
- 40:36But if my research is correct, he did struggle with alcoholism
- 40:41and I'm not entirely sure if that didn't play a role in these
- 40:45events and really this event in particular due to his behavior
- 40:51being strange and erratic. Regardless however, though, it
- 40:54is indicative of his mental state and I will also say that
- 40:59although I do very much believe in demonic entities.
- 41:02I do believe. That religious delusion is very
- 41:05real as well, and there is almost a form of theater at play
- 41:09in a sense between Carl and the preacher.
- 41:12Carl as well unfortunately passed away in 2012 and may he
- 41:17also rest in peace now. The original location of Bobby
- 41:21Mackey's where all of the events of the original video took place
- 41:25was deemed structurally unsound and unfortunately has been torn
- 41:29down as of December 2024. Which sucks because I really oh
- 41:34man, I found myself in the area several times.
- 41:37Like pretty close to Wilder Kentucky.
- 41:40This was, let's see, I believe this was literally right before
- 41:45they toured that old building down.
- 41:47But I always wanted to investigate there, you know,
- 41:50having been very intrigued by this case.
- 41:52But unfortunately, we'll never get the opportunity along with
- 41:55many others to investigate it. However, there are plans for a
- 42:00new building to be built in its place, and this building is
- 42:04supposed to reopen for business in 2026.
- 42:08As of now, Bobby Mackeys is operating out of a temporary
- 42:12location in Florence, KY. One of the most pressing
- 42:15questions I think we are left with after reexamining this
- 42:18entire case is will the new Bobby Mackeys also be haunted?
- 42:23I mean, it'll be built on the same spot.
- 42:25It'll contain artifacts from the original location, so only time
- 42:30will tell. Now, other artifacts, including
- 42:33the well itself, the dance floor, stage, and parts of
- 42:37Carl's apartment are now on display at Zac Bagan's Haunted
- 42:41Museum. It's possible that I might miss
- 42:43a thing or two as I re examine these stories, but I'm also
- 42:47human, so I apologize ahead of time.
- 42:50Now, having gone through the case again and been given new
- 42:53information, what are your thoughts as a whole?
- 42:56Make sure to share them with me down below in the comments.
- 42:59Like this video. Subscribe, share, and hype if
- 43:03you can. All those things help me out
- 43:05tremendously. Please also consider becoming a
- 43:09patron or channel member and I'll put the links on screen
- 43:12here and down in the description.
- 43:14And also please make sure to check out my store for my books
- 43:18and my merchandise. I did just put out my 4th book
- 43:21which is Stories from the Archives Volume 4, which
- 43:25contains another 10 stories of true paranormal tales and, and
- 43:31or I should say covers occult figures.
- 43:33So I'm sure you'll enjoy that, especially if you've read the
- 43:36other ones. And with all that aside, I did
- 43:39want to thank you guys for everything, truly.
- 43:43I'd mentioned it a few times in my community post, but I was in
- 43:47a dark spot there for a while and I am slowly but surely
- 43:51starting to come out of it, and I have a lot more optimism for
- 43:56the future. I've kind of got things more or
- 43:58less sorted in my personal life, so I say that as Luna.
- 44:03Deeply sized in the background, of course.
- 44:06So just thank you guys for all of your support and for being so
- 44:10incredible and being such an awesome community because at the
- 44:13end of the day, it really, it really helps keep me going.
- 44:17So with that guys, that's all I've got for now.
- 44:20Thank you all so much. Sound like a broken record here,
- 44:24but this has been Cody here and Mystery Archives.
- 44:27And make sure to stay safe out there and take care.
- 44:30I'll see you next time.
