- 0:32what is going on everybody
- 0:34welcome welcome to lunch
- 0:36with the clydesdale we're
- 0:37here on a memorial day um
- 0:39yeah we're not working
- 0:41today but we went ahead and
- 0:42had a lunch hour so we
- 0:43could spend some time with
- 0:44you um after last night's
- 0:47incredible show on sunday
- 0:48night crossfit talk so
- 0:50awesome to kind of get to
- 0:51talk to everybody there um
- 0:54it was really cool to have
- 0:55justin cutler in the
- 0:56comments as we were talking
- 0:57about the alex kazan situation last night
- 1:00His perspective on the whole
- 1:02situation was really cool.
- 1:04And if you miss that part,
- 1:06I highly suggest you go
- 1:08back and check that out and
- 1:10see what Justin had to say
- 1:11about all that.
- 1:12Because while everything
- 1:14seems to have turned out okay,
- 1:16it might not have.
- 1:17And he's definitely using
- 1:19that as a teaching point
- 1:21and a lesson learned with
- 1:23Alex over this whole thing
- 1:25and her story with the gummy.
- 1:27so with that it's time for
- 1:28the dart throw it's
- 1:30memorial day maybe today is
- 1:32the day I can drill this so
- 1:35here we go damn it I'm
- 1:42close it's not not too bad
- 1:44I'm gonna go ahead and uh
- 1:46show you where we landed and so
- 1:51there's the picture.
- 1:52I don't know if you can kind
- 1:54of see it off there,
- 1:56just off to the right,
- 1:59a tiny bit from the bullseye,
- 2:01but we are getting close.
- 2:04Maybe I'll get one of these, uh,
- 2:06sometime soon.
- 2:08So, so yeah,
- 2:11last night's show was awesome.
- 2:13Um,
- 2:15We played a game called Factor Fiction,
- 2:18which really got Carolyn
- 2:19fired up when we asked the last question.
- 2:23And it was really about the
- 2:24perceptions around the CrossFit space.
- 2:27So if you did not see that, again,
- 2:29last night was a really good episode.
- 2:31Um,
- 2:31we had some interesting people in the
- 2:32chat.
- 2:33We had, um, a really good time last night.
- 2:36It's Memorial day weekend.
- 2:37I think some people were
- 2:38hanging out a little bit
- 2:38longer last night as they
- 2:40didn't have to get up for work.
- 2:42Um,
- 2:42but the first thing I did this morning
- 2:44is I got up and I did my
- 2:46Murph and I'm feeling it, feeling,
- 2:50I'm feeling a little bit, um,
- 2:53really feeling it in the legs.
- 2:55And so what I decided to do
- 2:56this year was to, um,
- 3:01To scale it in a way that fit me best,
- 3:04and so what I did is I did
- 3:05an eight hundred meter run
- 3:08not run eight hundred meter jog walk.
- 3:11And I took Walter for a walk
- 3:13on that eight hundred
- 3:14meters came in and then did
- 3:16the other half of the mile on a bike.
- 3:20then I started to work on uh
- 3:23the cindy version of ring
- 3:24rows push-ups and air
- 3:27squats and I got about
- 3:30seventy push-ups in and
- 3:33they they were starting to
- 3:35go so I actually went to
- 3:36knee push-ups from that
- 3:37point on um so got through
- 3:41all of that then I did a
- 3:43half a mile on the bike
- 3:46And then headed out, grabbed Walter.
- 3:48We went on another eight
- 3:49hundred meter walk, jog,
- 3:52and I finished up.
- 3:53And it took me about an hour,
- 3:55to do everything this morning.
- 3:59Um, but we got it in the books and, um,
- 4:02I was able to honor, um,
- 4:06the soldiers today on Memorial day,
- 4:08which is what it's all about.
- 4:09Um,
- 4:10the people who have fought for our
- 4:11freedoms in this country and, uh,
- 4:14all the people that we have
- 4:15lost in their effort to do so.
- 4:18And, um,
- 4:21Jason Ackerman posted this
- 4:23this morning on his Instagram,
- 4:26and I want to share that
- 4:27because I love the sentiment behind this.
- 4:32And it says, you can scale Murph,
- 4:36you can partition, you can do half.
- 4:39Just remember, it's not about the workout.
- 4:44And I think that says it
- 4:45pretty eloquently.
- 4:47And that's kind of the
- 4:48attitude I took to do it
- 4:50this morning was I'm here
- 4:53to honor the fallen soldiers.
- 4:56Anybody who is a vet and who
- 4:57is making that sacrifice
- 4:59today or has already made that sacrifice,
- 5:02they deserve me spending an
- 5:05hour and twenty minutes
- 5:06doing something that hurts a little bit.
- 5:08And it'll probably hurt for
- 5:09a couple of days,
- 5:10but it can't hurt as bad as
- 5:12some of the things that
- 5:12they've been through.
- 5:13and so um that was what we
- 5:16did today so super pumped
- 5:18for that I I did it last
- 5:20year I think late after
- 5:23memorial day because I'm
- 5:25usually at an event on
- 5:26memorial day weekend and
- 5:29and so there was a lot of
- 5:30years I didn't get it in
- 5:32because of all of the traveling and um
- 5:36standing around that we do
- 5:37on cement but this year I
- 5:39was able to kind of
- 5:40schedule it figure out how
- 5:42I was going to do it and I
- 5:43got to do it with my my
- 5:45little buddy walter today
- 5:47and he was awesome through
- 5:48the whole thing and uh yeah
- 5:50we had a good time and it's
- 5:51actually pretty nice today
- 5:53it's in the sixties uh I
- 5:55got to do that this morning
- 5:56so not too hot um and got
- 5:58through everything
- 6:00pretty easily.
- 6:01Um, but my,
- 6:02the squats are going to be
- 6:03hurting me soon and my
- 6:05shoulders are going to hurt
- 6:06from the pushups for sure.
- 6:08Um,
- 6:09But yeah, we got it in.
- 6:11Hope you got yours in.
- 6:13We talked about that last night.
- 6:15Jamie and Carolyn did their
- 6:16versions over the weekend.
- 6:18Jamie did it on partition
- 6:20this year with a vest just
- 6:21because she is a complete
- 6:23savage and is able to do so.
- 6:25And she killed it.
- 6:26She PR it.
- 6:28If I tried to do it on
- 6:29partition that you'd need a calendar to,
- 6:32to,
- 6:33time me because the,
- 6:35the pushups would just re
- 6:37two hundred straight
- 6:37pushups would kill me.
- 6:40Uh,
- 6:41just a lot of mass for me to be lifting
- 6:43up that many times.
- 6:44Um, so the partition thing works for me.
- 6:48It helps me get some things loosened up.
- 6:51I can swing my arms around
- 6:52on the air squats a little
- 6:53bit to get those loosened up and, uh,
- 6:56get back to doing pushups.
- 6:57So hope you have a great one.
- 7:00Hope you have a great Memorial day today.
- 7:03Uh, and, uh, yeah.
- 7:07So the other thing I wanted to do today,
- 7:09um,
- 7:10I haven't been doing a lot of top fives.
- 7:12I did one last week.
- 7:13Um, but I,
- 7:15I wanted to do one for picnic
- 7:16foods because one of the
- 7:18best things to do on
- 7:19Memorial day is to spend time with family,
- 7:21um, and have some picnic foods.
- 7:25Oh,
- 7:25Kenneth says a volume and me don't get
- 7:27along much anymore.
- 7:29Yeah, I can, like, I'm actually,
- 7:31for a big guy,
- 7:32I like long workouts that I
- 7:34can just get to a steady pace.
- 7:38The sprint workouts get me
- 7:39much harder these days than that.
- 7:41And maybe, I don't know how old you are,
- 7:44Kenneth, but like at fifty-five,
- 7:46like just a good, nice,
- 7:47long-paced workout is not bad for me.
- 7:50I actually really enjoy it.
- 7:53It's the it's the ten to
- 7:55fifteen minute where I've
- 7:56got to go a lot harder that
- 7:57gets me real quick.
- 7:59So today was actually kind of enjoyable.
- 8:01Like I really did kind of
- 8:02enjoy just kind of hanging
- 8:04out with my earbuds in doing my thing,
- 8:08walking the dog.
- 8:09It was really, really cool.
- 8:12So anyway, top five, top five,
- 8:16top five picnic foods that
- 8:18I've got to have at my
- 8:20Memorial Day picnic today.
- 8:23Honorable mention.
- 8:25I love a good baked bean.
- 8:28But it's got to be my baked beans.
- 8:30I love the way I cook my baked beans.
- 8:33And I actually put sausage
- 8:35into my baked beans when I cook them.
- 8:38So I chop up sausage pretty fine.
- 8:40I'm usually in a casing,
- 8:41that kind of sausage.
- 8:43And I chop it up into the baked beans.
- 8:46A little bit of ketchup,
- 8:47a little bit of mustard,
- 8:48a little bit of brown sugar.
- 8:49And I...
- 8:51do all that up and then I
- 8:52bake them for a good ninety
- 8:54minutes to get it kind of
- 8:56caramelized and stuff in
- 8:58there and that is my honor
- 9:00honorable mention picnic
- 9:02food so you see where we're going here
- 9:05Now we're going to go to the top five.
- 9:07Top five, number five,
- 9:10all-time picnic food is the hot dog.
- 9:14Got to have a hot dog.
- 9:15Grilled hot dogs are so much better.
- 9:17Actually,
- 9:18over an open flame is even better
- 9:20than that.
- 9:22If you can get an
- 9:22over-the-open-flame hot dog,
- 9:25and we have a fire pit in my backyard.
- 9:28Get a stick, get a hot dog,
- 9:30get it over there.
- 9:31Perfect hot dog, throw that in a bun.
- 9:36I am not a mustard guy.
- 9:38I am an onion ketchup guy
- 9:40with some cheese.
- 9:42That's my favorite.
- 9:43Or if you have a good chili sauce,
- 9:45I don't mind a really good
- 9:47chili coney dog.
- 9:49That's good too.
- 9:51So number five on my list is the hot dog.
- 9:55Number four is the veggie pizza.
- 9:58If you've ever seen it with
- 9:59the crescent dough,
- 10:01you have like a dill...
- 10:04creamy sauce over it and
- 10:06then you put chopped up
- 10:07fresh vegetables over the
- 10:08top um that is the veggie
- 10:10pizza that is that would be
- 10:13my dessert for my my picnic
- 10:16that is sweet enough for me
- 10:17I don't need anything
- 10:18sweeter than that um that
- 10:20would be my dessert on my
- 10:22picnic um yeah the broccoli
- 10:25ones sometimes there's
- 10:26broccoli on it sometimes
- 10:28there's like shredded
- 10:29carrot sometimes there's cauliflower um
- 10:34Yeah, just fresh vegetables,
- 10:35sometimes tomato.
- 10:37You can put whatever you want on it.
- 10:38That's kind of the cool
- 10:39thing about the veggie pizza.
- 10:41It's whatever fresh veggies you have,
- 10:44the fresher the better.
- 10:47So that is number four.
- 10:49Number three is macaroni salad.
- 10:52Um,
- 10:53my mama Switzer's macaroni salad is so
- 10:57freaking good.
- 10:58Um, every time she has it, I, it is,
- 11:01I am uncontrollable around it.
- 11:03Um,
- 11:05my wife has almost perfected the recipe.
- 11:08Actually,
- 11:08she has kind of perfected the recipe.
- 11:11Um, and she makes it just as good,
- 11:13but I cannot have it in the house.
- 11:15So it is a,
- 11:16like we make it and then we get
- 11:17rid of it.
- 11:19But it is Mama Switzer's
- 11:20recipe for macaroni salad.
- 11:23I don't know why it's
- 11:24different than other ones,
- 11:25but it's just creamier.
- 11:28And it doesn't have as much
- 11:30of that like mustard flavor to it.
- 11:34But I really,
- 11:34really love it and her macaroni salad.
- 11:38Number two on the all-time
- 11:41picnic list is coleslaw.
- 11:43I am a coleslaw fanatic.
- 11:45I don't care if it's the
- 11:46vinegar-based or the
- 11:46cream-based or whatever.
- 11:49Whenever I am at a
- 11:50restaurant and that is an
- 11:51option for my side, I get coleslaw.
- 11:54Coleslaw is just one of my
- 11:55favorite things in the world,
- 11:57so of course I'm going to
- 11:58want coleslaw at my picnic.
- 12:02That would be number two on
- 12:04the list of all-time picnic foods.
- 12:10Then number one, without a doubt,
- 12:16is the hamburger.
- 12:18I could eat hamburgers every
- 12:20single day of my life.
- 12:22I love hamburgers.
- 12:24I can eat them without a bun.
- 12:25I can eat them with a bun.
- 12:27I can eat them just plain.
- 12:29Um, and I am that guy.
- 12:31I think I've said it on this
- 12:32show that if it is a really,
- 12:34really good burger,
- 12:35I don't even need condiments.
- 12:38I just want it to taste the
- 12:39flavor of the meat.
- 12:41And, um,
- 12:42And that is by far my number
- 12:45one picnic food of all time.
- 12:50And
- 12:52and and that's it yeah and
- 12:53if it's a good burger I
- 12:54don't need much on it but
- 12:56if I'm gonna do just a
- 12:57standard I want I want a
- 12:59little bit of american
- 13:00cheese and I want a little
- 13:04bit of miracle whip and
- 13:06some pickles and a tomato
- 13:08fresh garden ripe tomato
- 13:11that is the ultimate um
- 13:14that is the ultimate burger
- 13:15for me pickles garden ripe tomato
- 13:21and uh and some miracle whip
- 13:24maybe a little bit of
- 13:24ketchup that's about it and
- 13:27and again if it is really
- 13:28good I don't need the
- 13:29miracle whip and ketchup
- 13:30the pickles tomato I'm good
- 13:36um kenneth the lab didn't
- 13:38realize how much I like
- 13:39picnic foods dang all this
- 13:40all sounds good jay birch
- 13:42coleslaw banana pudding
- 13:44brisket or sausage waldorf
- 13:45salad sausage waldorf salad
- 13:48I don't think I've ever
- 13:49heard of though that combination
- 13:52Brisket, it's weird.
- 13:53I love brisket.
- 13:56For some reason in my head,
- 13:59I think of picnic as
- 14:00different than barbecue.
- 14:02I don't know why.
- 14:04I don't know why I think that,
- 14:06because I love a good brisket.
- 14:08If it's a really good, moist,
- 14:12juicy brisket,
- 14:14there's nothing better in this world.
- 14:16But in my head, I'm thinking barbecue,
- 14:18not picnic.
- 14:23And I will admit I'm
- 14:24probably wrong on that.
- 14:38Anyway, getting all choked up about that.
- 14:44And I, and I said, like,
- 14:45I'm probably wrong on that.
- 14:46And brisket would be a picnic food.
- 14:49I just, uh, yeah.
- 14:51Yeah.
- 14:56Thoughts on deviled eggs.
- 14:58I love a good deviled egg.
- 15:01That's probably right there in my... Yeah,
- 15:08that's inside, outside my top five.
- 15:11I just, for some reason,
- 15:12didn't think of it.
- 15:13I love deviled eggs.
- 15:16My daughter and I joke that
- 15:17if my wife makes them,
- 15:18nobody else will get any.
- 15:25Um...
- 15:27Kenneth loves a good brisket,
- 15:28don't we all?
- 15:29Mama Switzer's in the chat,
- 15:31bread pudding for dessert.
- 15:34And I love my mom's bread pudding,
- 15:37but I don't think of it as a picnic food.
- 15:42Again, if you missed it, mom,
- 15:44I am using the veggie pizza
- 15:47as my dessert for my picnic.
- 15:52That is as sweet as I really
- 15:53need to get for a picnic.
- 15:54I don't need something super sweet.
- 15:57So I'm going to use the
- 15:58veggie pizza for my dessert.
- 16:08And my mom calls deviled eggs in liners,
- 16:10and that means that they're
- 16:11the food you can eat while
- 16:13waiting in line for the rest of the food.
- 16:17You just grab a couple
- 16:17deviled eggs and pop them
- 16:18in your mouth while you're
- 16:19waiting to get through the
- 16:21rest of the line.
- 16:33so uh if you guys have any
- 16:35other thoughts on what are
- 16:36good picnic foods uh that's
- 16:38that um if I were going to
- 16:40pick barbecue maybe I'll do
- 16:42a barbecue list at some
- 16:44point um but yeah I I like
- 16:50banana pudding my wife does
- 16:52not like bananas at all
- 16:53anything banana she is out
- 16:55on um and I know jay birch
- 16:57said banana pudding I know
- 16:59that's a big southern thing too
- 17:03And so my best friend loves
- 17:08banana pudding.
- 17:09It's one of his,
- 17:10his like favorite things in the world.
- 17:13Um, and I, and I love it,
- 17:16but my wife just is not,
- 17:19I'm never going to have it at my house.
- 17:21If my wife doesn't like the food,
- 17:23we never get to see it on
- 17:24the shopping list.
- 17:29And my mom can attest to that.
- 17:31I haven't got to eat a pea in like years.
- 17:41Jell-O used to be picnic food, right?
- 17:44See, it's so weird.
- 17:45Like I correlate things to
- 17:46different things.
- 17:47Jell-O or the generic Knox blocks.
- 17:52When I was a kid was a swimming food.
- 17:54When I would go to swim meets, I would eat
- 17:57like the square knox blocks
- 17:59or jello all day long
- 18:02that's what I that's what
- 18:03sustained my energy when I
- 18:05was swimming and I would
- 18:06eat them non-stop all day
- 18:08long so I don't ever think
- 18:09of it as a picnic thing and
- 18:11if there's a jello type
- 18:12dessert or jello something
- 18:14at the picnic I avoid it
- 18:16because it's a reminder of
- 18:18my swimming days and I and I would
- 18:22would over eat the knox
- 18:24blocks on swimming days to
- 18:26the point where I really
- 18:26didn't want them any other
- 18:27time of the year uh kenneth
- 18:34says boiled peanuts never
- 18:35had them both but the south
- 18:37loves them I've had boiled
- 18:39peanuts when I lived in the
- 18:40panhandle of florida for
- 18:41four years not a fan not a
- 18:44fan at all it there who
- 18:46wants a soggy peanut i
- 18:51The reason I eat a peanut is
- 18:52to get the crunch,
- 18:54and when you boil the peanut,
- 18:55it's not crunchy anymore.
- 18:58Now, you're supposed to slurp the water,
- 19:00and it's supposed to give
- 19:00you this salty something or other.
- 19:02Yeah, not a fan.
- 19:08But if you travel I-ten from
- 19:10Jacksonville to New Orleans,
- 19:12you'll see boiled peanut
- 19:14stands about every couple
- 19:15miles on the side of the road.
- 19:23I'm with jay birch they're
- 19:23gross they're slimy uh that
- 19:26and you'll see fried okra
- 19:27everywhere too on that same
- 19:29trip every gas station has
- 19:32fried okra and talk about
- 19:34slimy okra is about as
- 19:37slimy as the boiled peanut
- 19:40so yeah travel i-ten you'll
- 19:43get all of that stuff
- 19:47so the last thing I want to
- 19:48talk about today um and
- 19:50then I'm I'll take any of
- 19:52the questions you guys have
- 19:53for me any about anything
- 19:54in the world we have a
- 19:55little bit of extra time
- 19:56today any question you have
- 19:59throw me a question in the
- 20:00chat and I'll answer it but
- 20:02before we before I get to
- 20:03that part I just want to
- 20:05give you a little heads up
- 20:07uh I'm going to talk about
- 20:08the syndicate crown
- 20:10Because it was my plan to be
- 20:11at the Syndicate Crown,
- 20:13and I just want to give you
- 20:14a little peek into my life
- 20:15and why I probably am not
- 20:17going to make it to the
- 20:18Syndicate Crown this weekend.
- 20:22It was my plan to do that.
- 20:24As you all know,
- 20:25my wife went through total
- 20:26knee replacement surgery on May sixth.
- 20:29The plan was that she could
- 20:32possibly be recovered by
- 20:35the time that I had to go
- 20:37to the Syndicate Crown.
- 20:39She was going to come down
- 20:40with me in the car because
- 20:43this is the operation is on
- 20:45her right knee.
- 20:47And it means that she cannot drive.
- 20:51While her flexion is almost at goal,
- 20:54which she's supposed to get
- 20:55to a hundred degrees of flexion to,
- 20:58and then to zero, zero to one twenty.
- 21:00She is at zero and she's at
- 21:03like one sixteen degrees.
- 21:06So she's only like four
- 21:07degrees away from full
- 21:08flexion and her knee already.
- 21:10And we're not tomorrow.
- 21:11We'll mark three weeks post-op.
- 21:16She doesn't have the acumen
- 21:18yet to be able to go from break to gas,
- 21:22that flick of the ankle left to right.
- 21:26While she can go straight
- 21:27ahead with the flexion, she's good.
- 21:30But that twist of the ankle
- 21:32she doesn't have yet.
- 21:34So I cannot leave her for
- 21:35days without the ability to drive.
- 21:42In addition,
- 21:43she's still having some pain
- 21:44in the knee where she has
- 21:45to get it elevated.
- 21:47So six hours in a car from
- 21:49here to Knoxville doesn't
- 21:52seem to make sense at this moment.
- 21:55Now, if things change this week,
- 21:58we can hop in the car.
- 21:59We can get to Knoxville for
- 22:01at least a couple days this weekend.
- 22:05because she's off of work.
- 22:07So she doesn't even have to take time off.
- 22:08It would only be me.
- 22:09And I have plenty of
- 22:10vacation time to do that.
- 22:12Um,
- 22:13but it's looking like just with this
- 22:16season of life.
- 22:17And I knew that coming into
- 22:18this season that I probably
- 22:20would not be traveling as
- 22:21much because of everything
- 22:23that she had to go through.
- 22:25We've been fighting for
- 22:27years for her to get these surgeries.
- 22:29And when we finally got approved,
- 22:31that became the priority.
- 22:33Not me getting to semifinal events,
- 22:36not me getting to
- 22:37qualifying events as much as I would love,
- 22:40love, love to be there.
- 22:43From two thousand twenty to
- 22:45two to this year,
- 22:47I've been to every North
- 22:49American semifinal except
- 22:50for the West Coast Classic last year.
- 22:54It just doesn't look like
- 22:55it's going to be in the cards for me.
- 22:57I missed mayhem.
- 22:59I'm most likely going to miss syndicate.
- 23:03And that's just where we are.
- 23:04That's where we are with our lives.
- 23:06And for her to get back to
- 23:09fully functioning with two great legs.
- 23:16So, again,
- 23:19I can't leave her with the
- 23:21inability to drive,
- 23:22and she can't come with me
- 23:24if she can't elevate the
- 23:25leg for six hours straight.
- 23:30And then to be in a hotel
- 23:32room without all of the
- 23:34equipment and stuff that we
- 23:35have for her would be really,
- 23:38really difficult.
- 23:40And the ability to ice and
- 23:42do all of those things.
- 23:44So unless there's a dramatic
- 23:48change in her recovery this week,
- 23:52it looks like I'm going to
- 23:56miss being there in person.
- 24:00and I'm really going to miss
- 24:01it this is but again I know
- 24:04that this is more important
- 24:05my wife's health is more
- 24:06important than me getting
- 24:08to syndicate but that what
- 24:10that means is I'm going to
- 24:13be at I'm going to be at
- 24:14the games I'm going to be
- 24:16at the age group games for
- 24:19sure and then the fall will
- 24:21try to do some more stuff
- 24:24Uh, like masters fitness collective,
- 24:26maybe we'll try to get to
- 24:27like water Palooza, SoCal, um,
- 24:29some of those things,
- 24:30and maybe we'll just start
- 24:31picking up more in the fall as opposed to,
- 24:35uh, doing the semifinal season this year.
- 24:39so I'll just be watching all
- 24:40the streams from four
- 24:41different locations um and
- 24:45covering everything from
- 24:46that perspective and again
- 24:50I have yusef is going to be
- 24:51at syndicate taking
- 24:52pictures and doing video so
- 24:55you'll see some
- 24:55collaborations with him and
- 24:57I this weekend on all of
- 24:59that stuff so we will have
- 25:01a presence there
- 25:04But other than that,
- 25:05it looks like I'm out for this weekend,
- 25:08and then we'll just pick
- 25:09things up in the fall.
- 25:09And thank you so much, Kenneth.
- 25:11And ain't no thang,
- 25:13just hang in the chat with
- 25:14the rest of us.
- 25:17And Jay Birch says family first,
- 25:19of course.
- 25:21Yeah,
- 25:21and I knew that coming into the season.
- 25:23It doesn't mean I don't have FOMO,
- 25:26because I do,
- 25:29but my wife comes first for sure.
- 25:36And Kenneth says, hang in the chat.
- 25:38You know, when I watch events, live events,
- 25:42podcast, I'll be in the chat.
- 25:44Live events, I cannot look at the chat.
- 25:51I'm truly watching to get to
- 25:53analyze what's happening.
- 25:55And so I can talk about it
- 25:56with Jamie and Carolyn on Sunday night.
- 26:00And it's really hard for me to get,
- 26:02if we're in between events,
- 26:03I may dive into the chat a
- 26:04little bit to see kind of
- 26:05what everybody's talking about.
- 26:07But for the most part on the streams,
- 26:11I'm just watching the event itself.
- 26:17so I'll be watching
- 26:19everything that I can watch
- 26:20this weekend I will be
- 26:21talking about it with jamie
- 26:22and carolyn on sunday night
- 26:24of course and we'll break
- 26:25down everything we saw who
- 26:27got their tickets who
- 26:28didn't um and we'll uh and
- 26:35we'll see what's happening
- 26:38uh jody lynn every party
- 26:39needs a breather I'm sure
- 26:40you'll look and get new a
- 26:42new perspective yeah I and
- 26:45I'm so excited like
- 26:48I'm so excited to see where
- 26:50this takes my wife back to
- 26:52being fully healthy again and,
- 26:56and her to be able to come
- 26:57with me to events and to
- 26:59help me do some different things,
- 27:02have different angles of with the camera,
- 27:04things like that.
- 27:05Um, I can't wait till that happens again.
- 27:10So,
- 27:11so there's my announcement for
- 27:12syndicate crown.
- 27:13Um,
- 27:15And then we'll be hitting
- 27:17the circuit next year again for sure.
- 27:20And probably this fall a
- 27:22little bit here and there.
- 27:23So there's that.
- 27:29Um, I'm, I'm the last couple of minutes.
- 27:32I'm going to open it up.
- 27:33You guys can ask me a question, uh,
- 27:35anything that you want
- 27:36about what's going on in
- 27:37space about my personal life,
- 27:39about anything like that.
- 27:41I'm here to answer questions today.
- 27:43Um,
- 27:44just have a little bit of fun before we
- 27:45check out.
- 27:47Um, but while, if you have some,
- 27:48I'll wait for you guys to
- 27:49come up with some in the chat.
- 27:52But until then,
- 27:54my wife and I started
- 27:55watching Yellowstone again
- 27:58to finish off the fifth season,
- 28:00which is the last season
- 28:01that's out there.
- 28:02And it's a really different
- 28:03perspective having a
- 28:05daughter living in Montana
- 28:06and watching that show now.
- 28:09And actually having been in Montana myself,
- 28:12and it was really...
- 28:17It's been really fun kind of
- 28:19watching that show with that perspective,
- 28:22now seeing Montana and
- 28:25knowing that my daughter lives there,
- 28:29who I actually got to talk
- 28:30to right before I came down here today.
- 28:32And she's going on another
- 28:34hike today to some waterfalls.
- 28:36And so excited to get the
- 28:38pictures back from all this
- 28:40stuff she's doing,
- 28:42but really excited for her
- 28:43and really happy for her.
- 28:49uh Kenneth says you guys hit
- 28:50everything last night it
- 28:51doesn't have to be about
- 28:52CrossFit it can be about
- 28:53anything anything in the
- 28:56world um last night when I
- 29:02was done with the show I
- 29:03went up to I have to upload
- 29:04the audio version to um
- 29:11to get it out there on like
- 29:12Spotify and iTunes and all of that stuff.
- 29:15And so I have to like make
- 29:17another thumbnail.
- 29:18I have to get the audio up.
- 29:20I have to do some finishing
- 29:22touches on everything.
- 29:23And I put the Knicks Pacers
- 29:24game on last night.
- 29:26And that is the most
- 29:27basketball I've watched all
- 29:29season on the men's side.
- 29:32and what a game man carl
- 29:35anthony towns was on fire
- 29:37at the end of that game
- 29:38really fun to watch um I
- 29:41just love when when
- 29:43athletes elevate to that to
- 29:45that level of of dominance
- 29:47in a moment and um it was
- 29:52really fun to watch really
- 29:54fun to watch and the knicks
- 29:55needed it or they were
- 29:56going to be out of the
- 29:57playoffs soon for sure
- 30:00Kenneth says,
- 30:01you think Sprague can repeat?
- 30:03I do.
- 30:05I do.
- 30:05I think he has improved
- 30:06immensely where he had holes,
- 30:10and he does have events
- 30:11that he can be dominant at.
- 30:15Like, he's a really good runner.
- 30:16He's a really good swimmer.
- 30:18If those things ever come back into play,
- 30:23I think that...
- 30:26He will dominate those
- 30:27events because the people
- 30:29that have dominated him in the past,
- 30:30like Fikowski and Koski,
- 30:33are no longer in the field.
- 30:35And I really think that I think he could.
- 30:40I think he's getting good
- 30:41enough at the other stuff
- 30:43that he will contend for
- 30:44the title for a few years now.
- 30:47I think the only thing that
- 30:49will stop James Sprague is
- 30:50James Sprague himself.
- 30:52I think he gets bored easily.
- 30:55And so he tries so many different things.
- 30:58And like the example this
- 30:59year is him and his,
- 31:01his coach has had to talk
- 31:02him down from doing a triathlon.
- 31:08Instead of training for the games,
- 31:10he wants to go do a triathlon,
- 31:11and I think his coach has
- 31:13convinced him that that is
- 31:15not what's best for this season.
- 31:18So it's those types of
- 31:19things I think will prevent
- 31:21James Sprague from competing,
- 31:23not his CrossFit ability,
- 31:26but his wanting to go try other things.
- 31:29The guy qualified for world
- 31:31championships in high rocks.
- 31:35And he had to make the
- 31:37decision not to do that and
- 31:38to focus on his training
- 31:39for the CrossFit Games.
- 31:42It's those things that I
- 31:43think could get in his way
- 31:45because he's so talented in
- 31:47certain areas that he's
- 31:48going to have other
- 31:49opportunities to do things.
- 31:54And he has to make the
- 31:55decision if this is his
- 31:57sole focus and if he wants
- 31:59to keep doing this over and over again.
- 32:07Jody Lynn,
- 32:08would you like to do any
- 32:09swimming for supplemental exercise?
- 32:16I can't wait to swim laps in my pool,
- 32:18but it's grueling.
- 32:22I would.
- 32:23I would like to.
- 32:28Finding a pool to be able to
- 32:30do that is the difficult
- 32:33part for me here.
- 32:36there aren't a lot of pools
- 32:38available for that,
- 32:41but I have noticed that the
- 32:43rehab center where I go get
- 32:45my allergy shots every
- 32:46Wednesday has like a two lane lap pool.
- 32:52And I may look into how much
- 32:55it would cost to get a
- 32:57membership to that because
- 32:59they do sell memberships to that gym,
- 33:01which is the,
- 33:03it's a hospital system here
- 33:04in Columbus and,
- 33:06but it's their rehab center
- 33:11and they have the pool and
- 33:12they have a lot of like the
- 33:13machine type equipment
- 33:15around um treadmills and
- 33:21ellipticals and all of that
- 33:22stuff plus the lifting
- 33:24machines I'm definitely not
- 33:26a crossfit gym but it does
- 33:28have the pool availability
- 33:30and I need to look into
- 33:33whether that's something
- 33:33that I can fit into my budget or not
- 33:37But the fact that now in
- 33:39Ohio you can use your
- 33:41health savings account to
- 33:43be able to pay for that
- 33:44stuff may make that a
- 33:51better opportunity for me.
- 33:56So, yeah.
- 33:58It is grueling.
- 34:03But eventually your body gets used to it.
- 34:07problem with swimming is it
- 34:08uses muscles that you don't
- 34:10really use in a lot of
- 34:11other ways and so those
- 34:14muscles hurt a lot in the
- 34:16first few weeks that you're
- 34:17swimming if you stay
- 34:19consistent with that that
- 34:20all goes away and it
- 34:24becomes less grueling um
- 34:28and I know that's hard to
- 34:29trust in but it does happen
- 34:32There's a lot of small
- 34:34muscles that come into play
- 34:36when you're doing just
- 34:37basic swimming that you
- 34:39don't use in like a typical
- 34:41CrossFit gym or CrossFit workout.
- 34:47And so you just have to use
- 34:48them for a few weeks to get
- 34:50them kind of back into
- 34:52shape and back into play.
- 34:54And then the gruelingness
- 34:55kind of goes away.
- 34:59And then the real big key
- 35:00with swimming is you have
- 35:02to figure out how to breathe.
- 35:04Once you learn to breathe
- 35:05where you don't have to turn so much,
- 35:08it takes away a lot of the
- 35:10grueling part of the stroke.
- 35:12And that's a conversation I
- 35:14had with like Hattie Cano
- 35:17is that like she was
- 35:19breathing way too high,
- 35:21like turning her head
- 35:22really high to get a breath.
- 35:26You have to learn to breathe
- 35:27in the bow wave.
- 35:29And what that is,
- 35:31is if you ever see a boat
- 35:33go across the water,
- 35:34there's a bow wave that happens.
- 35:38And in that,
- 35:39it's a small little wave that
- 35:41actually creates a divot in
- 35:43the water where the boat is.
- 35:45When you're swimming,
- 35:46when you're swimming fast enough,
- 35:49your head is the point of
- 35:52the bow of the boat.
- 35:54And you actually create a
- 35:55mini bow wave that comes
- 35:56back the body as you're swimming.
- 35:59And when that divot then
- 36:00occurs in the water,
- 36:01you just have to turn a
- 36:02little bit to get free air to breathe in.
- 36:06And the less you turn your head,
- 36:10the more streamlined your
- 36:12body stays throughout the stroke.
- 36:14And then you actually become
- 36:15more efficient in the water
- 36:17and it becomes less grueling.
- 36:21And that is the major
- 36:23mistake that most CrossFit
- 36:26athletes have when I watch them swim.
- 36:30is they breathe really high
- 36:33and that means their back
- 36:34shoulder dips down in the water.
- 36:36You become way less streamlined.
- 36:38That means you're pulling
- 36:40against the water instead
- 36:41of trying to stay symmetrical and smooth.
- 36:45And then it becomes really
- 36:47grueling and physically
- 36:48demanding because you're
- 36:50not staying on top of the
- 36:52water in a very streamlined position.
- 36:55I would love to get back to
- 36:57doing that again.
- 36:59Um,
- 36:59I just have to find the right
- 37:00opportunity to be able to do that.
- 37:07So is that all the questions for me?
- 37:11And I'm sorry if I went into
- 37:13way too much detail on the
- 37:14swimming thing.
- 37:15That's just the life I lived
- 37:17for so many years.
- 37:18Um,
- 37:21eating my jello Knox blocks
- 37:23and swimming for hours a day.
- 37:33I kind of understand the
- 37:34James break thing and I'll
- 37:36finish with this.
- 37:37When I was a swimmer, you swam,
- 37:40I swam high school and I swam YMCA.
- 37:43So the high school meets
- 37:44would be like on Mondays and Thursdays,
- 37:46I think.
- 37:47And the YMCA swimming meets
- 37:49would be on Saturday.
- 37:52And then periodically you'd
- 37:53have an invitational where
- 37:56you could go to like a meet
- 37:59and you signed up and you
- 38:00paid to enter multiple different events.
- 38:05So when you swam high school, when I swam,
- 38:07there was a rule.
- 38:08You could swim two individual events,
- 38:11one relay.
- 38:14And if you're a decent swimmer,
- 38:16you swam two individual
- 38:17events and a relay.
- 38:22On the typical YMCA meet,
- 38:24when you're going against another team,
- 38:26the same rule applied.
- 38:28You could swim two
- 38:29individual events and one relay.
- 38:32When you went to an invitational,
- 38:34you could sign up for
- 38:35whatever you wanted to sign up for.
- 38:39So I would go to an invitational,
- 38:42and I didn't want to be bored.
- 38:45Especially in later years in my freshman,
- 38:49sophomore, junior year of high school,
- 38:51I swam freestyle for
- 38:52everything and it was all
- 38:53distance and I'd be so bored with it.
- 38:56So when I go to an invitational,
- 38:58I would sign up for
- 38:59everything and I would swim
- 39:01every single event to see
- 39:03how I could do in the
- 39:06events I didn't get to swim
- 39:07so much during the year.
- 39:09I would sign up for the
- 39:10breaststroke event I would
- 39:11sign up for the butterfly
- 39:12event I would sign up for
- 39:13the backstroke event I
- 39:15would do the im um and then
- 39:17I would do all the
- 39:18freestyles and uh and
- 39:20that's how I really those
- 39:23are the events I really enjoyed
- 39:26But those are the events
- 39:27that I would house the
- 39:30jello nox blocks because I
- 39:32am swimming so much during
- 39:34the day at such a high
- 39:36intensity that I needed to
- 39:38get calories into my system
- 39:40as quickly as I could.
- 39:41And I would get an upset
- 39:43stomach if I ate normal
- 39:45food because my nerves
- 39:47would just be like churning all day.
- 39:50so that's why I would eat
- 39:51knox blocks all day long
- 39:55and basically just jello
- 39:57square jello square after
- 39:58jello square after jello
- 39:59square and that would keep
- 40:01me going uh through those
- 40:03long invitational days but
- 40:05that's the most fun I ever
- 40:06had swimming is when I
- 40:07would just sign up for
- 40:09everything and try to win
- 40:10as many medals and plaques
- 40:13or ribbons or whatever as I
- 40:15could throughout the day um
- 40:20But that's how it worked.
- 40:22And I did that because I was bored.
- 40:24And that's why I kind of
- 40:26translate that to James Sprague.
- 40:28It seems to me like he gets
- 40:29bored with things and he
- 40:30just wants to sign up for
- 40:31something different to get
- 40:33his mind in a different
- 40:34direction for a period of time.
- 40:36And I think that's the only
- 40:37thing stopping him from
- 40:38repeating is that
- 40:44perception of boredom that
- 40:46could come over time.
- 40:53Well, thank you for the fun questions.
- 40:55I hope you all have an
- 40:56amazing Memorial Day.
- 41:01I hope you have an amazing
- 41:02picnic with really good food.
- 41:06And with that, guys,
- 41:07I'm not going to send you
- 41:08back to work today because
- 41:09you have the day off.

- 41:12here in the States.

- 41:15my apologies.
