Latest / Adjacent Podcast / Adjacent - First Episode! Meet Jody & Shelly
Transcript
- 0:00Just two adjacent girls living in a lovely world.
- 0:07They took a podcast train going anywhere. But
- 0:15kind of specifically through Austin, Texas. Yeah,
- 0:22hook and horns. Welcome, welcome. This is our
- 0:40first official and official podcast recording.
- 0:44We are here at Record ATX. I'm really impressed
- 0:48with their setup. 30 seconds in with a shout
- 0:51out. Go Jodie. And our podcast is called Adjacent.
- 0:57Adjacent. So, Shelly, what would you say adjacent
- 1:02means to you? Adjacent is... This podcast, I
- 1:10would say adjacent is anything we're connected
- 1:13to. And can I backtrack a sec? Is that Jodi and
- 1:19I have been talking about having a podcast for
- 1:21about four years. And as a Virgo, that's... That
- 1:27drove me nuts that we talked about it for four
- 1:30years. Um, and, and so, um, we, we went back
- 1:36and forth going, Hey, what should we call it?
- 1:39Sisters, um, babes that brunch. Uh, and, and
- 1:44we went through a lot of different names and
- 1:46we were just like, you know, what, what is our
- 1:48goal? You know, what do we want to get to? And
- 1:50it was like, really. sharing all the goodness
- 1:55we're around and adjacent gave us that opportunity
- 2:04that we can ebb and flow and adjust this a lot.
- 2:08We can have co -host shifts and so our big thing
- 2:15is What are we adjacent to? Who are we adjacent
- 2:18to? And adjacent means close by. Right. Yeah.
- 2:24What is adjacent to you, Jody? I think it's like,
- 2:28when I'm adjacent to something, I'm not necessarily
- 2:31fully in it, but I'm next to it. And I can be
- 2:34next to greatness. I can be connected, but not...
- 2:39all the way the person living those experiences
- 2:42so it's fun to kind of watch other people live
- 2:46their lives and I feel like we're going to get
- 2:49to meet a lot of fun amazing people along our
- 2:54path to during this podcast and I think what
- 2:58we really want to do is share our lives but also
- 3:03the lives of all the people that are connected
- 3:06to us. or adjacent to us. And just getting to
- 3:12have you guys come along with us as you were
- 3:15going to open this up to come along. Let's go
- 3:18do some of these adventures and be adjacent to
- 3:22one another and experience one another. That
- 3:25made me think of like the Magic Bus, the book
- 3:29series. Oh yeah, Magic School Bus. The Magic
- 3:32School Bus. So think of that. Come along. And
- 3:36we just want to invite you guys to be adjacent
- 3:39with us with incredible humans, go to fun places.
- 3:42We want to share with you some cool places in
- 3:45Austin, but also outside of the state of Texas,
- 3:47because we travel together, we do fun things.
- 3:50And then just lots of fun topics. But before
- 3:54we go any further on that, we should introduce
- 3:56ourselves. And we thought it would be fun to
- 4:00introduce ourselves that the other person gets
- 4:03to introduce ourselves. I go first. Oh, no, I
- 4:05go first. Okay, well, here's my introduction.
- 4:09It is my great pleasure to introduce you to Jodi
- 4:13Lee Sylvie Nguyen. Jodi is the great love of
- 4:18my life. She is hands down the best gift my parents
- 4:22ever gave me. As you can tell, I love her deeply.
- 4:26So here goes, Jodi, Jodi Lee, Jojo, Jdub, Jwin,
- 4:33and Birdie. That's what we call her. Jodie is
- 4:36a giver. She's the mother of three amazing humans,
- 4:42the wife to one of my favorite humans, a sister,
- 4:45a friend, an educator, and an amazing advocate
- 4:49for all. Jodie is the Amy Poehler to my Tina
- 4:53Fey. Jodie is a Pisces to my Virgo. Jodie has
- 5:00a beautiful singing voice, even though I like
- 5:02to make fun of it and say that she sounds like
- 5:05Kathie Lee Gifford. Maybe we can get her to do
- 5:07the theme song, who knows, but really pull in
- 5:10for Callie. Together, we're showdy and often
- 5:15it feels like we're twins because the connection
- 5:18between us is so strong. It's so strong that
- 5:22some people feel uncomfortable in our present
- 5:25because we're just talking to each other or telepathic.
- 5:29pathically. We just eyeball each other and know
- 5:33what the other one's thinking. Jodie's a lifelong
- 5:38longhorn. She's a dog lover, and she has some
- 5:43mad dance skills. Like when she gets on the dance
- 5:48floor, it is all like Donkey Kong. I can't wait
- 5:53to share this amazing person with you all. And
- 5:56I'm very, very excited to be part of this podcast
- 5:58because now I will have her on a schedule. And
- 6:05I get to spend more time with her, whether she
- 6:08likes it or not. Jody Wynn! Jody Lee! I know,
- 6:16so many names. Okay, well my introduction, you
- 6:20will find this to be so. Shelly's the... She
- 6:24goes above and beyond and then I'm like, there's
- 6:27Shelly. Okay, let me introduce you to one of
- 6:32my favorite humans on earth. Shelly, Kay, Sylvie,
- 6:35Gravy. Yes, you noticed. We both have Sylvie
- 6:38in our name. No, we're not like sister wives.
- 6:42We're just sisters. She's a true middle child
- 6:49of our family because it's Tim, Casey, Shelly,
- 6:53Jody, that's me, and Amy. And yes, you also notice
- 6:56that all of our names end in Y. We're not the
- 6:59Kardashians with the K. We're the Sylvie's with
- 7:02the Y at the end. She's a Virgo. And she basically
- 7:09embodies - Proud Virgo. All of those. She embodies
- 7:14all of the descriptors. She's a mother of two
- 7:18amazing grown boys. They're adult men now, but
- 7:21you'll be hearing a lot about them later. She's
- 7:24a force of kindness and energy. She's a connector
- 7:26of energy and a connector of people. She loves
- 7:29to be around others and learn from them, but
- 7:31she's also don't be... confused. She's an extrovert,
- 7:36introvert. She recharges when she's by herself
- 7:39just exploring and being untethered. That's her
- 7:42favorite thing. We are Irish twins or at least
- 7:45we're adjacent Irish twins because we're not
- 7:48true Irish twins. True Irish twins are... less
- 7:52or around 12 months apart, but we're 18 months
- 7:54apart. But we still have, we almost have that
- 7:58twin energy for sure. We grew up in Austin, although
- 8:02Shelly's not really born in Austin. She was born
- 8:07in San Diego. Yeah. It's a hard one. Yeah. It's
- 8:11a hard... But you did grow up in Austin, like,
- 8:15and then she left for a little while, but...
- 8:17The family pulled her back in. You know, you
- 8:20can't escape for too long. We have so much to
- 8:24share. We're like the Sopranos. I know. Exactly.
- 8:26We are like the Sopranos without all the criminals.
- 8:29Well, we do have some criminal actions, but we'll
- 8:30get into that later. Yeah, we'll share that later.
- 8:33You're going to have to keep listening. Shelly
- 8:34K. I don't think... Shellbell. We call her Shellbell.
- 8:39That's her nickname. Everybody calls her Shellbell.
- 8:41And then Shelly K. Sylvie SSG. in the house.
- 8:47Your guys are going to love her as much as I
- 8:49do, I think. And you're going to find her to
- 8:52be hilarious. Today we thought our main focus
- 8:55would be interviewing one another. Now we cheated
- 8:59on this a little because usually we won't do
- 9:02this with our guest, but we pre unless they request
- 9:06it, we present each other some questions. Although
- 9:09Shelly, because I'm a Pisces, I just sent those
- 9:12to her about 10 minutes ago. I don't know, can
- 9:17we go over like the real descriptors of what
- 9:22a Virgo is? And then you say yes or no, okay?
- 9:26So I looked it up and then I'll look up Pisces
- 9:29and I'll tell you yes or no. I haven't written
- 9:31that. And I did tell Shelly to start bringing
- 9:33her computer so we can go back and forth. Wow,
- 9:36call out number four. What was the first three?
- 9:41Okay. All right, Shelly, here are some traits.
- 9:44associated with being a Virgo. This is, I do
- 9:47not think that this is the full list, but some
- 9:52of them. And then I'm going to give you my, if
- 9:54I agree about you. Okay. So who's the Virgo now?
- 9:59Okay. Well, then you do it for me too. All right.
- 10:02Hardworking. Yes. Thumbs up. I agree. Judgmental.
- 10:07Absolutely. Sometimes. Everybody's judgmental.
- 10:11Okay. That's how they like to say it. That's
- 10:15how we validate ourselves. Analytical. Highly.
- 10:19100. Highly. Overly solicitous. There are people
- 10:28pleaser. I would say in the middle. I used to
- 10:32be. Not anymore. Modest. I mean, I'm modest.
- 10:39I mean, it's hard to be humble when you're perfect
- 10:41in every way, but I'm modest. I think physically
- 10:44you're very modest. Okay. Like you kind of hide
- 10:47yourself a little, but you're not like boastful.
- 10:51Yeah. I mean, I'm more boastful about what surrounds
- 10:55me. Yeah. Perfectionist. No. No, not really.
- 11:03I don't know if it's perfectionism with you,
- 11:06but it's... it can be controlling. Well, I mean,
- 11:10that's not what it's saying. Right. It's saying
- 11:13perfectionist. But if everybody did it your way,
- 11:15it would be perfect. No, I love that we're not
- 11:18all the same. I love it. I wish, I do wish everybody
- 11:22would keep a flipping calendar. That would be
- 11:24great. And if they would all share it with me
- 11:26so I knew where you were and I could join in,
- 11:29that would be great. Maybe we can add other traits.
- 11:34Easily annoyed. Yes. Over -thinker. Yes. Detail
- 11:41-oriented. Sometimes. Sometimes. I think sometimes
- 11:46when it comes to like party throwing, you can
- 11:48be less detail -oriented. Only in that you're
- 11:52like, I'm gonna, you'll... You don't set a standard
- 11:56that's like ridiculous you like to make I think
- 11:59when you're detail oriented in your party planning
- 12:01It's more like I just want people to be comfortable.
- 12:03I think I'm detail oriented in that it's on the
- 12:08calendar and This is when it starts and ends
- 12:12and then I I think I've had so many events that
- 12:16it's like I know There's a point where it's out
- 12:21of my control And there's nothing I can do to
- 12:25make it different. And I love the organicness
- 12:31of that. I love that it's, it took me a long
- 12:34time to appreciate that. For example, the chips.
- 12:39I knew you were, I could see you going. I think
- 12:43you've grown into being less, I cannot believe
- 12:46that controlling is not on here. That's because
- 12:49I, my, person is a Pisces and she's chill and
- 12:56you've educated me on that. I don't know if I'm
- 12:58chill. You've made me work on that and I'm better
- 13:04for it. Well, you've come a long way because
- 13:07one time our little sister Amy and I went to
- 13:10go see Shelly after she had... Coulter? Yes,
- 13:14I think it was Coulter, her youngest, but...
- 13:16And this was years ago and Amy and I were starving
- 13:19because we had not eaten, it's 25 years ago,
- 13:23and we had not eaten and we started eating the
- 13:25chips that were, you know, in bags on the table
- 13:28and the bags weren't open and we started eating
- 13:31and she got really upset about it. But she was
- 13:34also postpartum and she had, we'll go into her
- 13:37birth stories, you will not believe it. I mean,
- 13:40I would have given up. I would be like, yes,
- 13:44C -section now after like. An hour. Or at least
- 13:49after 24 hours. But I had scheduled. That's going
- 13:55to be the drinking game every time she said scheduled.
- 13:59Everybody took a chug -a -lug. I had scheduled
- 14:03all of the meals during the pregnancy for their
- 14:08visit. And so the chips were for another meal.
- 14:15Got it. And then I was gonna have to go to the
- 14:18store because we didn't have the chips. Or we
- 14:20could have got it. Sure. Sure. And that was before
- 14:23Uber Eats. That was the controlling. Okay, picky.
- 14:28Yes. I think you do have some pickiness, some
- 14:32high standards on some things. High? Well, I
- 14:37just mean like when you have an idea of what
- 14:40you want. Yeah. You're like, I'm going to go
- 14:43to the edges or to get to that. I like what I
- 14:45like. But I think that's a good thing. Kind,
- 14:47very patient. Yes, because she has to deal with
- 14:52me and some of our friends that you're going
- 14:53to meet. Lots of patience required in my life.
- 14:58Pisces traits. I get to read them. Okay. Pisces,
- 15:03number one, compassion, 100%. Thank you. Jodi's
- 15:07very compassionate. Creativity, yeah, Jodi's
- 15:11very creative. I worked on the logo for Jason
- 15:14for like six hours. Jodi just plugged it out
- 15:18in 10 minutes. And so she's very creative and
- 15:22that's required. with education and being an
- 15:26educator. Imagination, yes. Jodi's imagination
- 15:33is something to behold. I've given her a magic
- 15:40crystal ball because she imagines the future
- 15:45so hard and aggressively. I think what she's
- 15:49trying to say is I tend to be a little pessimistic.
- 15:55No, no, no, no. I'm not saying that. You predict
- 15:58the future. I predict the worst thing is going
- 16:01to happen. Like, you know, there's going to be
- 16:03a flash flood. Exactly. You know, whatever. I
- 16:06call that intuitive. I call it because of the
- 16:11lack of realisticness of it. I call it imagination.
- 16:17Empathy. 100%. Very, very, very empathetic. Sensitivity.
- 16:25I don't know. I don't think you're overly sensitive.
- 16:28I mean, when somebody comes in to evaluate your
- 16:31classroom, sure, you get a little sensitive,
- 16:35but I would get sensitive. Or annoyed. Annoyed.
- 16:38This is absolutely 1000%. I don't think you,
- 16:44Spontaneity? No. I mean, you don't have a schedule,
- 16:49so I guess that is Spontaneity. But I do have
- 16:52a schedule every day. That's the thing. So when
- 16:56I work from like 5 .30 till 4 .30, then I don't
- 17:03want to schedule anything else. Yeah. Style,
- 17:07the fashion, the fashion is unplugged. And we
- 17:12have plenty of fashion talks to have. Jodi, I'm
- 17:16so not fashion. I wear the same thing every day.
- 17:20I love a uniform. Intuition, and maybe that your
- 17:24intuition is very imaginative. Well, I think
- 17:32when you're empathetic, you tend to be intuitive.
- 17:36because you are trying to read other people's
- 17:41emotions or what they're going through. And then
- 17:42I guess with my imagination, I fill in the blanks.
- 17:45So I might say, oh, it looks like this person
- 17:47is in a rush. I guess they're going to the hospital
- 17:50or somebody they know is, a loved one is in the
- 17:53hospital. I better give them some space. I mean
- 17:59like in the car. Like if I see somebody on my
- 18:03tail, I don't think, oh, they're a bad person.
- 18:05I think they must be in a hurry. I better get
- 18:08out of their way. What if something bad happened?
- 18:11Agreed. They must have something very important.
- 18:13They need to get, pick up their Starbucks order.
- 18:16Well, or somebody might be in the hospital. Yes,
- 18:19but you're very, I do think you're very intuitive
- 18:22and I think that all ties into your job and you're
- 18:26amazing. And I'm glad that we're not both Virgos.
- 18:31because my husband's a Virgo, we're both Virgos.
- 18:34The guy helping us with the set, it's good to
- 18:37have kind of opposite people. Yeah. Bryce at
- 18:41RecordATX. Shout out to Bryce at RecordATX. Yes,
- 18:46pardon me. I did see on my traits, escapist,
- 18:51I am the biggest escapist. Oh yeah, she is the
- 18:54Irish goodbye. Well, I've gotten better about
- 18:57that because people get really mad with Irish
- 18:58goodbyes. I love Irish goodbyes. Okay, I love
- 19:02this. By the way, I love learning about people's
- 19:06signs. I have no... understanding of it. I'm
- 19:09not like, in their third moon, they're rising,
- 19:14you know, whatever their moon is in this zone
- 19:16or that. I have nothing on that. But I do think
- 19:20a lot of people do fit. Well, they throw a wide
- 19:23net, let's be honest. Oh, of course. Like they're
- 19:26like, here are some characteristics of you. And
- 19:28it's like the largest net. It's like you could
- 19:29catch every fish in the ocean with it. But at
- 19:32the same time, a lot of times I'm like, that's
- 19:34pretty spot on. Well, I feel like And I'm the
- 19:39same, Jodie, as I'm not like reading about, I
- 19:43don't read my horoscope every day, I don't do,
- 19:46I'm not, I'm deep diving it in any shape or form.
- 19:49However, I feel like I have manifested it into
- 19:52my personality. It's like I have adopted 100
- 19:56% that I'm a Virgo and that's why I do things
- 19:59the way I do things. And I am proud of it. And
- 20:05I embrace it. I love the fact that all my Christmas
- 20:12shopping is done and wrapped at the end of October,
- 20:16and I don't have to think twice about it. I really,
- 20:23I think my adoption of being a Virgo has aligned
- 20:28with my philosophy of... What's my favorite saying?
- 20:34Avoidable stress. Oh my gosh. Okay, I get to
- 20:37enter you. Oh, you get to go first because I
- 20:39went first on the intro. Okay, I will start with
- 20:43some questions I have for Shell Bell over here.
- 20:49What is it like being a Virgo? I mean, it is
- 20:52just a gift from God. I just feel like he was
- 20:55like, y 'all are special and I want to make your
- 20:58lives awesome. And here you go. And I know what
- 21:02I'm going to be doing the next day. I know what
- 21:07the future entails. Just joking. I don't know
- 21:10any of that, but I like being a Virgo. I'm proud
- 21:13of it. I'm like, fellow Virgo, let's go. We find
- 21:18each other in the crowd. We're like looking at
- 21:20our calendars and we're like, hey, Virgos. I
- 21:23married a Virgo. I love them. I'm a Virgo fan.
- 21:26Are Virgo and Virgo compatible? Yes, obviously.
- 21:31We've been married for a long time. I mean, how
- 21:34long have y 'all been marrying? But you're a
- 21:39sit. Next year will be 30 years. Okay. So 29.
- 21:4430 years. those of you all math challenged, 29
- 21:47years. All right. It says are highly compatible
- 21:51on the googs. I mean, there's shared value and
- 21:56attention to calendars and perfectionism. I added
- 21:59that. Detail perfectionism and critical nature.
- 22:04And Hanley did some conflict. Yeah. But it seems
- 22:07to work for you guys. Her husband's name is Adrian.
- 22:10He is... I love, I call him brother. He's amazing.
- 22:14I love my brother, Adrian. He's a sweetheart.
- 22:18He loves Shelly. Let's not tell them. I know.
- 22:23Okay. I think I know the answer to this question,
- 22:26but here we go. What is your favorite band or
- 22:30musician? I am just so in love with Tyler Childers
- 22:34right now. I just, I love his music. I find it
- 22:37so soulful. He sings, you remind me of a Sunday.
- 22:46I love that song. See, did you hear that voice?
- 22:49No. It's the song of it. The voice of an angel.
- 22:51The voice of an angel. That's what our friend
- 22:53Cheryl says. She always makes fun of me. But
- 22:59you've learned, you've started to embrace some
- 23:02other new artists too. Shelly is a huge music
- 23:06goer with her friends, Kelly and Robert. They
- 23:09just - Man, that Teddy Swims. Teddy Swims. Oh,
- 23:13man, he's so good. What do you like about his
- 23:16music? It's soulful. It's just, it's, I mean,
- 23:22it's just - It hits you in the stomach. And then
- 23:24it - permeates up into your heart and then...
- 23:27I mean, and I'm the crier. I am the more emotional
- 23:34sister. Is that fair? Well, I think we used to
- 23:39be, they used to call us the town criers because
- 23:41we would cry every time we would drink. And then
- 23:44I started being like, this is ridiculous. And
- 23:47I started to try to like, hold it in more. And
- 23:52Shelly... You've made improvements on public
- 23:55crying. Thanks, Jodi. I don't know if it's that
- 23:59you're wearing darker sunglasses. I do try to
- 24:02hide it. I do try to hide it. I have cried publicly,
- 24:06mostly because of music being so moving. We were
- 24:09at Pepitas, Pepitas, how do you say it? Pepitas.
- 24:14That's us. Where is it? That cute little Mexican.
- 24:18Oh my gosh, guys. If you have not gone to Pepeitas
- 24:22in Austin, it's kind of in Westlake, but it's
- 24:25adjacent to Austin. It's adjacent to Austin.
- 24:28Westlake is part of the... I think we're still
- 24:31in the municipality. We share fire and all that
- 24:36still, right? But we don't share Robin Hood.
- 24:39Or Robin Hood, which we'll be getting into later,
- 24:41but not today. Today is a happy day. Anyway,
- 24:46so Teddy and Tyler, who else? Oh, Casey Musgraves.
- 24:51Oh yeah, I love Casey. Yeah, I'm down for any
- 24:56music. I love artists. I'm not very creative
- 25:00like Jodi, but whenever she says that, but I'm
- 25:03literally not, but keep going. She is. Whenever
- 25:06somebody has... a skill like that, I'm just so
- 25:10in awe of it. Like somebody that can cook, I'm
- 25:14glad for anybody that can cook, so I don't have
- 25:16to, but any kind of art, I'm just in awe of it.
- 25:20And so if anybody's gonna share their art, I'm
- 25:24down for it. I wanna see it, I wanna be a part
- 25:26of it. I think anyone that has a creative energy,
- 25:32you're drawn to. Yeah. Like you just wanna go
- 25:35and watch them in there. doing their best thing.
- 25:38Yeah, showcase your goodness. I want to see it.
- 25:40I want to be, I want to witness it. Yeah. 100%.
- 25:44Who was the last musician that you saw? We went
- 25:48and saw, oh my gosh, Maggie Anton and Trampoline
- 25:54Turtles. And they were so good. Had so much fun.
- 25:58That Maggie Anton is just the cutest little thing.
- 26:03Oh, you sent me video of that. She's so adorable.
- 26:07And I love that she was just wearing like cutoffs
- 26:09and a t -shirt. Yeah. Super casual. And singing
- 26:11with a beautiful voice. Yeah. And she's funny.
- 26:14Where did you go? We were at the cute Moody.
- 26:18Little baby Moody. Oh, the Moody. I love it.
- 26:21It's the best. Cutie Moody. Cutie Moody. Yeah.
- 26:24It's the cutest little Moody venue. I'm glad
- 26:28we're talking about this. It's my favorite. Aside
- 26:31from Saxon Pub, it's my favorite, favorite, favorite
- 26:36Austin venue for bigger events. It's very intimate.
- 26:41It feels like you're sitting on their lap while
- 26:45they play. You're really close. You're adjacent
- 26:49to a bathroom and a bar. Wherever you are in
- 26:53that venue, you're adjacent to a bathroom and
- 26:56a bar. And music, right? And music. Yeah, it's
- 26:59awesome. And it's G .A. standing up. So lovely.
- 27:03And I was with two of our fun, fun, fun, fun,
- 27:06fun friends. Fun, fun, fun, fun, Bobby. Yes.
- 27:10And Kelly. Well, then it kind of makes it seem
- 27:14like Anne Kelly, but it's Kelly. Kelly. Anne.
- 27:19Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun, Bobby. Yeah. Have you
- 27:24ever been to One World Theater? Okay, so one
- 27:28time my brother -in -law, um, on a school night,
- 27:31I was like, I don't do things on school nights.
- 27:33And, um, I was so upset that I had to go. But
- 27:37he had invited John and I to go to One World
- 27:40Theater. And you saw? Ryan Bingham in One World
- 27:43Theater. And I, my, it was as if... my soul had...
- 27:50come out of my whole body because they darkened
- 27:54the entire room and it was just him on the stage
- 27:56with his guitar. You just felt like it's just
- 27:59the two of you. It was so intimate and beautiful
- 28:01and amazing and I cried in public and I didn't
- 28:03even care because I was like, this is beautiful.
- 28:06This is beautiful. Oh, you did cry. Where do
- 28:09you like to eat in Austin? My number one most
- 28:15favorite place to eat in Austin is wherever John
- 28:21Nguyen has food available. That's my husband.
- 28:25Yes, wherever John Nguyen... John Nguyen is sharing.
- 28:28Watch people just show up. He would love to cook
- 28:33you some gumbo. Oh my gosh. All of it, all of
- 28:36it. He makes fried chicken. It's the best fried
- 28:38chicken you'll ever have. He makes... I don't
- 28:41even like mac and cheese. He makes mac and cheese
- 28:44and it's like... He's just very soulful. Yeah,
- 28:46it's so good. Down from the kitchen. It's his
- 28:48love language. It is. We get to talk about love
- 28:51languages. Love language. Yeah, and that's my
- 28:56favorite, favorite, favorite place. And there's
- 28:59something about when John's cooking that his
- 29:01energy shifts and it's his art. That's why I
- 29:05love it. It's his art and it's his love language.
- 29:08And I love being around that. I love that energy.
- 29:11Well, and one thing you'll learn about Shelly
- 29:13and I is we're not cooks. And so being adjacent
- 29:18to good cooking is like, we love to go get a
- 29:22good meal, but we love to watch people in their
- 29:26kitchen and then doing their art. But what's
- 29:29your... Oh my gosh, my second favorite is Lauren
- 29:32Wyler. Shout out to Lauren Wyler. I don't get
- 29:36it enough, but when we all lived on Leave Elaine,
- 29:39Lauren would cook for kind of quite a few neighbors
- 29:43and we would just pay for her to cook. And it
- 29:47was so good. She's so good. She's so talented.
- 29:50She's a competitive cook. Yeah. She does like...
- 29:52She's been on Rachael Ray. Yeah. I mean, she's
- 29:56kind of a... Yeah, we'll have her on the show
- 29:59and we'll have her husband Louis on the show
- 30:01because he's hilarious Oh, they are hilarious
- 30:04and they're Louisiana people and I love Louisiana
- 30:07people But where's your out of the home cooking?
- 30:12I mean, honestly, it's anywhere With a group
- 30:16of friends. I love I mean, there's so many good
- 30:18things We're gonna talk about a bunch of restaurants.
- 30:21I'm not gonna even deep dive in that but just
- 30:23yeah Okay, well, I'm gonna make a, with my intuitiveness,
- 30:29I don't even need a crystal ball for this, but
- 30:32you love a good margarita. I love a good margarita.
- 30:35And you do love Tex -Mex food. Not really. Well,
- 30:39you like Mexican restaurants because they have
- 30:41margaritas. Exactly. Okay. And we do spend a
- 30:44lot of time at Matt's El Rancho, although it's
- 30:47not for the food, because the other day... They
- 30:51went to VATS and they had closed down the bar.
- 30:55We're gonna get kicked out. Sorry, Melvin. Okay,
- 30:59my next question. That was a good one. Alright,
- 31:03what is your favorite hike in Austin, outside
- 31:05of Austin, in the world, you name it. What's
- 31:08your favorite hike? We love to hike. I love to
- 31:11be outside. My favorite in Austin... I love anything
- 31:17with a waterfall. I love a waterfall. We call
- 31:21this, one of our hikes is, we call it Kelly's
- 31:27Trail because it's near Kelly Krull's house.
- 31:30Is that creepy? No. Okay. It's her address. Just
- 31:39kidding. It's over in Balcony Hills. It's over
- 31:46in our balconies off of Mopac. There's a little
- 31:51community park, and they have a really good trail,
- 31:53but it's only when it rains. We had no rain.
- 31:56Please, we need to do... We're supposed to rain
- 31:58this week. I know, but I'm like, Lord, bring
- 32:01us some rain. We need rain so bad. We love rain.
- 32:04And our son, Coulter, whenever it rains, he's
- 32:07like, are we going to Kelly's trail? Are we going
- 32:10to Kelly's trail? And so... Yeah, I love to hike
- 32:15most beautiful hikes are probably recently we
- 32:19went down to lost maples and That's outside of
- 32:23Austin about two hours and the trails Were amazing.
- 32:29I don't want to give it away But I mean go down
- 32:31there and if you go during like this time of
- 32:34year that all the all the leaves have changed
- 32:37And so far is that? It's like a two -hour drive.
- 32:40It's not far. It's north of the Frio. Like you
- 32:43feel like you're not in Austin. Our greatest
- 32:46thing is there was no Wi -Fi. There was no cell
- 32:50service. There was nothing. And so just really
- 32:53being unplugged. And so it was a good trial.
- 32:57And we had so much fun because we started up
- 32:59the hill right at dusk. And so we had to climb
- 33:05down the hill, which I would never recommend
- 33:06to anybody for safety reasons, in the dark. And
- 33:09we got the giggles. We laughed so hard. I mean,
- 33:12it was pretty scary. But that trail just really
- 33:15blew my socks off. But I also had the opportunity
- 33:21to live in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, in the Tetons
- 33:24for a while. How long did you live there again?
- 33:26About two years. She wishes she could live there
- 33:29longer. She loved it so much. I love it so much.
- 33:35And Hen Falls is a beautiful trail out there.
- 33:40Well, when our friend Tammy comes on, we'll talk
- 33:42about when we went to Crested Butte. Oh, yeah.
- 33:46And I got lost. How I got lost. And there was
- 33:49a blizzard. I think we're going to have to bounce
- 33:52back and forth on these questions because I think
- 33:54we're already at an hour. That's great. Okay,
- 34:00well, let's just do that. And then I'll come
- 34:02back to you and I'll ask you some more questions.
- 34:05Okay. Describe your dream day. Okay. I think
- 34:08you and I almost have the same dream day. Exactly.
- 34:12So I would actually I would wake up pretty early
- 34:16to start the day. I'd like to go for like a walk
- 34:19or a hike. And then sometimes we go with our
- 34:21friend to like this. Church and do meditation,
- 34:25which is beautiful. Centering prayer. Centering
- 34:28prayer. And then, and we're not like particularly
- 34:34religious people, but we do, we have a lot of
- 34:36spirituality, but we believe in, you know, all
- 34:40of the goodness and amazingness. And then go
- 34:44with friends or anybody who wants to go for a
- 34:48hike. To do what? To do what? Drum roll? Then
- 34:49we like to go to brunch. Brunch is one of our
- 34:53favorites. After brunch, I do like to go to games.
- 34:56I don't mind going to like a football game or
- 34:57a baseball game. I know that's not your thing.
- 35:00I like the energy of sports sometimes. I love
- 35:03crowds. I love them. I don't mind crowds. And
- 35:06we used to do this tailgate walk, which was kind
- 35:09of like all of this in one. We'd walk from my
- 35:11house. We did it last weekend. For years and
- 35:14years, it was a 10 -mile walk, but then it was
- 35:17just four. Now we realized it's like, I think
- 35:19it's like five. But maybe for um, and then I
- 35:23would love to go like go play golf at Butler
- 35:26Park. I'm not good at it at all, but it's fun
- 35:30and then Continue with different bar hop and
- 35:35fun times and then end up eating some bar food
- 35:38because bar food is so great That's how my stomach
- 35:42hurts. And then go to bed by eight. Go home by
- 35:46eight, watch a movie or something. Shower, whatever.
- 35:51And then play cards. I do love to play cards.
- 35:55That's fun. That's my day or two. Ditto. Ditto.
- 35:59You might skip. You don't have to do the baseball
- 36:02thing. But those are fun things. I love baseball.
- 36:06You are so good at dream analyzing. I don't think
- 36:10I'm good at dream analyzing. I think I just am
- 36:13so intuitive. Just kidding. I have such a good
- 36:17imagination. Your Pisces plays hard in your dream
- 36:25analyzing. I can kind of deem some meaning from
- 36:29some of the visuals or things that are happening
- 36:33in dreams, but I'm not always right, but sometimes
- 36:35I am. Right. Okay, well, what is the weirdest
- 36:41dream you've ever heard, you've ever heard, ever
- 36:45had? Okay, I'll tell you a dream I had that was
- 36:48really weird. It happened when I was a kid. We
- 36:51were living on Traysway. And we actually were
- 36:56living in that house. And... So I had this dream
- 37:03that over we were playing outside because we
- 37:06were always outside we were never inside and
- 37:10Shelly was always as a kid playing down the street
- 37:14with The kids in the neighborhood she was playing
- 37:18like tag football or kickball or something like
- 37:20that and in my dream I was playing outside with
- 37:24our good friend Ronnie. Her name is Veronica,
- 37:26but we called her Ronnie and then my mom got
- 37:31this announcement and I heard it on the radio
- 37:33and it said, beware, large poultry is running
- 37:38through the streets of Austin, you have to hide.
- 37:43And Ronnie and I were trying to get to Shelly
- 37:45so I could bring her inside because she was down
- 37:48at the end of Stray's Way, which back then felt
- 37:51so far away. So we go to run towards her and
- 37:57all of a sudden we see these giant poultry like
- 38:00roosters and chickens running towards on our
- 38:04streets of Traysway. And we're hiding behind
- 38:06Miss Johnson's AC unit and I see Shelly get squashed
- 38:11by a giant rooster's foot and it was. really
- 38:16sad. I'll never forget that. For a while, I dreamt
- 38:19about large bees. I had a dream that a large
- 38:22bee stung my dad on his head. I just dreamt of
- 38:27large creatures coming in and harming my family.
- 38:31So when that rooster squashed Shelley at the
- 38:36end of Tray's Way, I was devastated. And then
- 38:40I woke up. So that was a weird dream. I have
- 38:43not fully analyzed that dream, but it, it still
- 38:47lives with me. Anyway, but I hear weird dreams
- 38:50all the time. It's like the pencils in my head.
- 38:53Yeah. I don't know. I don't know what those mean,
- 38:55but all right. I know you don't have one, but
- 38:59let's talk about laminated list. Okay. So laminated
- 39:02list comes from the friend's show where Ross
- 39:06had a laminated list and then he threw it out.
- 39:09And then he met his number one on the laminated
- 39:12list. Yeah. And a laminated list is a hall pass.
- 39:16It's a hall pass. So if you're in a relationship,
- 39:19you get a hall pass if they're on your laminated
- 39:21list. Yes. You can laminate with laminate. And
- 39:25now Amazon has nothing to do with laminating
- 39:29it. But I love that your education self is like...
- 39:35You don't actually have to get a laminate. If
- 39:37you don't have a laminator or laminate, if you
- 39:41go to Amazon, you should buy one. They're not
- 39:43very expensive and it is so fun to laminate things.
- 39:46It's so fun. And it's also fun to un -laminate
- 39:50things. These are very hard to un -laminate.
- 39:52They're like the good laminate. They're not the
- 39:55school version. No, no. But they're the thick
- 39:58one. They're thick and you can write on them
- 40:01anyway. But I do not have a laminated list. I'm
- 40:05not really interested in anything like that.
- 40:08But Shelly does. I do. Yeah. Do you want me to
- 40:11laminate on my Amazon laminator? Why don't you
- 40:15type it up and I'll laminate on my Amazon laminator.
- 40:17Okay. You'll love it. Yeah. We'll post it somewhere.
- 40:22Who's on Shelly's laminated list? Let's bring
- 40:26back laminated list. I already know who's number
- 40:29one on yours. Well, it changes. That's the hard
- 40:33thing about a laminated list. But for the longest
- 40:40time, my number one's been Adam Sandler. And
- 40:42maybe I asked you this question just so I could
- 40:44talk about Adam Sandler. Shelly loves Adam Sandler.
- 40:48Yeah, and he's a Virgo. Geez, you have a type.
- 40:52I do. That's my type. If you're a Virgo. If you're
- 41:01Virgo and not available, I'm your girl. Oh, okay.
- 41:06I know. Name all of your tattoos. Oh, Shelley
- 41:12and Joni. I have a heart with... Well, they're
- 41:15all with Kelly. Oh, Shelley goes on tattoo parties,
- 41:19I guess. Not really. It's accidental. It's accidental.
- 41:23Okay. I think we should start at the beginning.
- 41:26Okay. When did you get your first tattoo? Yeah.
- 41:29And let's just do that. At the ripe old age.
- 41:31At the ripe young age. We were at Maths, and
- 41:40then we went to Black Sheep. And we ran into
- 41:43our friend, Kelly Duan, who we hope sings our
- 41:49intro song. So it was you, Kelly, Robert. Callie
- 41:58and and quite a few other people but they Callie
- 42:03walks in and she goes you guys you know what
- 42:05we should do We should get peachy tattooed on
- 42:08our asses and I was like, okay, let's go and
- 42:12so but how old were you I was 49 years old and
- 42:18I call my husband and I go hey Adrian I'm gonna
- 42:22get my first tattoo And so we got peachy tattooed
- 42:27on our asses. And this is great and good and
- 42:31awesome. But I have to explain that I'm a lady
- 42:36of a certain age that have not exercised as much
- 42:40as I should have. And the other three people
- 42:44are super fit, have great bodies, and... So we
- 42:53all lay down on the table and my flabby butt's
- 42:57out. Robert, fun, fun, fun, Bobby's tight butt.
- 43:03Callie's ridiculously tight butt. And then Kelly's,
- 43:07I can jump on top of this table from standing,
- 43:11tightest butt ever. I can bounce a quarter off
- 43:14my butt, tight butt. And we might have to delete
- 43:18this whole part, but this is hilarious. The funniest
- 43:22part of that tattoo is that Callie thought it
- 43:28was going to be inside her swimsuit cut and it
- 43:32wasn't. So her peachy is on the external. On
- 43:39the outside. Oh, that's funny. So she thought
- 43:42it was gonna be like a hidden tattoo. So I always
- 43:45get my tattoos with Kelly and it's usually after
- 43:49enjoying the world. My next tattoo will be a
- 43:57duck. Oh, why? Because me and Kelly... And our
- 44:04amazing neighbor, Kate Curry, started a company
- 44:10called Toydie. And we'll talk about that later.
- 44:13I know. I'm excited to go into the Toydie of
- 44:16it all. So you're going to get a duck where?
- 44:20I don't know. We can't decide. Maybe you should
- 44:24get a tramp stamp with the duck on it. Like all
- 44:27three ducks. Maybe after the holiday crawl. What
- 44:32do you think took you so long to get a tattoo?
- 44:34I don't have any tattoos. I mean, who's going
- 44:36to put a bumper sticker on a Bentley? So true.
- 44:44I'm an old Chevy truck. Dirty's a Bentley. No,
- 44:48I'm not. I just think it's funny. I'm a rusted
- 44:50out Jeep. I've been thinking about getting a
- 44:52tattoo lately. Yeah. You know, I was always hesitant,
- 44:58like my ear pierced. Yeah, so these ears aren't
- 45:01pierced. I'm like, what the heck? That's fine.
- 45:04Some people, they can't get them pierced. Yeah.
- 45:06Well, they are pierced. They've just closed.
- 45:08So they're not pierced anymore. Yes. Anyway,
- 45:12okay. So duck. Yeah, a duck somewhere. There
- 45:17will be a duck somewhere. We don't know where.
- 45:20I think tattoos are beautiful. My daughter are...
- 45:23Her niece, my daughter Peyton, has a lot of tattoos
- 45:26and all of them have like a little story and
- 45:29she has a beautiful one on her back of her neck
- 45:33of the Crested Butte Mountain and it's like a
- 45:37place that she loves and you know, family memories.
- 45:40So I get that for sure. I think they're great.
- 45:45Okay. I have a question for you. Okay. And this
- 45:47is, I mean, we talk in this term all the time.
- 45:50What would your walk up song be? I was looking
- 45:55at that question, and I don't know, because I
- 45:58think I would change it up. Yeah, it's always
- 46:00changing. Like for a while, one of my favorites
- 46:04was Gin and Juice, and then All I Do is Win,
- 46:09I liked that one for a while. All I Do is Win,
- 46:11Win, Win, No Matter What. And what's that one
- 46:14that was out recently? It's like, Pour Me a Glass
- 46:18of, you know, do -do -do -do -do -do -do -do,
- 46:22you know that one? Oh. One to the three to the
- 46:25four. Yeah, that one. I like that one. And then
- 46:28I love the, excuse me, you look like anyone on
- 46:33TikTok. I pretty much just get all my music from
- 46:35TikTok. But no, and if I have a good artist that
- 46:40I like, but I love all music for a while. I was
- 46:44a big, I mean, I'm still am a big Patty Griffin
- 46:46fan and who lives in Austin right down the street
- 46:49from Nadia. Oh, okay. Where's that? Yeah. Just
- 46:53joking. Don't say it. Yeah. She lives at 1321.
- 46:57I'm just kidding. Yeah. Let's have a fake address,
- 47:00though. I know. Send everybody, too. And then
- 47:02it has like... It's always Matt El Rancho's address.
- 47:06Yeah. She lives at South Lamar. We could put
- 47:09QR codes. You can find me at South Lamar. Yeah.
- 47:15But I don't really have one. Do you have one?
- 47:17A walk -up song? Mm -hmm. Um, I don't have, I
- 47:21don't have a hype song right now. I need to work
- 47:23on that. I don't have a hype song, but something
- 47:26I need to listen to in the morning to get me
- 47:28through like the school day would be good. I
- 47:30do. I mean, excuse you. Excuse me. Yeah. I feel
- 47:34like, um, that's been like the go -to thing,
- 47:39but I've, it's been like, I've played it so many
- 47:43times. I know. I would be like. I don't even
- 47:48have moves for this anymore. I can't even walk
- 47:51up for it. That's true. Okay. I have a question
- 47:55for you. Okay. All right. So why are you a Houston
- 48:02Euler fan? Oh, golly. Houston Oilers. Houston
- 48:07Oilers. Houston Oilers number one. They've got
- 48:13the offense. They got the defense. They give
- 48:17the other team no hope. Because of the theme
- 48:20song, Jodie. That's why I love them. Growing
- 48:24up, we were big Houston Oilers fans. This was
- 48:26before, like... This was a long time ago. It
- 48:32was before the Cowboys were America's team. I...
- 48:39I love the Houston Oilers, A, because their colors
- 48:42are so good. And it was the same as our high
- 48:47school colors. Did you notice that? Yeah. But
- 48:51our parents... Okay, people should know that
- 48:55in Texas, you have to choose one of two teams.
- 48:59Back then. Back then. And it was Dallas or Houston.
- 49:06And same for baseball. You're either Astros fan
- 49:10or the other one. Rangers. And I don't know,
- 49:15I feel like there's always been a stigma about
- 49:18Dallas. Like, oh, Dallas. Like they were snooty
- 49:21when we were growing up. Yeah, they were like,
- 49:23oh, they're not even part of our state. Well,
- 49:26they just seemed above it all. Yeah. And I like
- 49:29Dallas fine. And I think it's because we were
- 49:32watching Dallas, the show. And we thought everybody
- 49:37was like JR and Suellen. We didn't realize that
- 49:40we wanted to be them. We thought they were just
- 49:45not. I still watch that show. I know. I love
- 49:48it. It's so funny. I like it when JR one day
- 49:51was drinking out of a cup and it had iced tea
- 49:54and he goes, tea. I think he totally improv that.
- 49:59Because he was a big like bourbon drinker, whiskey
- 50:02drinker. So funny. I love him. I think the reason
- 50:07we became Euler fans was because of Big Bad Earl,
- 50:13Earl Campbell. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Number 20 and
- 50:1634. Mom was a huge Earl Campbell. Fan. Fan, because
- 50:23he was from UT. Yeah. And she, our dad was such
- 50:27a horrible shopper that he would buy her, like,
- 50:30Houston oiler tennis shoes. And I remember when
- 50:36he got her these Longhorn tennis shoes and mom
- 50:39was like, no thanks. But I took them and I wore
- 50:43them. And they were 10 sizes too big. And they
- 50:45were really, like, not the nicest. Now I have
- 50:48some burnt orange tennis shoes. The Houston Oilers
- 50:52stopped playing in 1996, but now I looked up,
- 50:56I just googled, when was the last game the Houston
- 50:59Oilers played, and at first I put Houston Oilers
- 51:02last played, and then it took me to the Tennessee
- 51:04Titans. And I understand some people kind of
- 51:07claim that as, and I'm like, no, when the Houston
- 51:11Oilers died, it was dead. I don't care what people
- 51:16say. It was the end of a legacy. And so I had
- 51:20to put the real Houston Oilers last played. And
- 51:23then what's this? December 15th, 1996. And the
- 51:27saddest day ever. Cincinnati bingles. Do they
- 51:31win at least? I don't think so. I don't think
- 51:33they won for a long time. 21 to 13 at the Astrodome.
- 51:38Ooh, the dome. The dome. And it was attended
- 51:42by a crowd of just over 15 ,000, the smallest
- 51:45home crowd in the franchise. Um, uh, wearing
- 51:51a Houston oiler hat is such a crowd pleaser.
- 51:55Like if you know, you know, kind of thing. Um,
- 51:59the other day I went and met, um, Katie and Mark
- 52:02are over on the East side and, um, the doorman
- 52:09asked us for our ID. And then he saw my Houston
- 52:11Oiler hat and he goes, do you go on in? He was
- 52:15like, if you know who that is, you're too old,
- 52:19you're too old to need your ID checked. That's
- 52:22true. And it was so funny. I was like, hilarious.
- 52:25But the other day I met Katie, Cheryl and Kelly
- 52:32over at the Grove. And I had my Euler hat on
- 52:37and the very young bartender gave me free drinks.
- 52:42Nice. Yeah. But Jody wants me to tell you all
- 52:44those stories. I still got it. I still got it.
- 52:46Oh, yeah. He even let us in after they locked
- 52:49up. Sorry to go to the bathroom. He didn't give
- 52:53us any more drinks, but that after they closed.
- 52:58I didn't want him to get in trouble. That's hilarious.
- 53:03He still let us in after they closed. I mean,
- 53:05just to go to the bathroom. I don't want to get
- 53:09him in trouble, but it was so funny that he was
- 53:12like that Euler hat. Anyway, so, but Jodie wants
- 53:17me to tell you all this. I still follow the Oilers
- 53:20because I cannot invest in another sports team.
- 53:24Oh my God. I do not have the energy. And so it
- 53:27kind of says, I don't have to, I don't have to
- 53:30do Sunday football. The Oilers aren't playing.
- 53:35But the Tennessee Titans is in the Houston. I
- 53:38didn't say I was a Tennessee Titan fan. I'm not
- 53:41a fair weather fan like Nimish Patel who's just
- 53:45like, oh, I'm a Tennessee Titan fan. And whenever
- 53:47they switch cities, he jumps on the bandwagon.
- 53:51Well, this is what they say on The Googs. So
- 53:55the Houston Oilers, after they left... they relocated
- 53:59to Nashville and became the Tennessee Oilers.
- 54:01I do remember that. And then the Oilers were
- 54:04replaced by the Houston Texans, not the same
- 54:07team, who began playing in Reliance Stadium.
- 54:11And the Oilers are now known as the Tennessee
- 54:14Titans, because they're the Oilers. They used
- 54:17to be the Tennessee Oilers, which doesn't make
- 54:19sense. Did they even drill in Tennessee? I'm
- 54:22sure. But Houston's known for oil. Yeah. Yeah.
- 54:26I mean, it just... I mean... I mean, that's a
- 54:28stretch. Yeah. Because Bum Phillips, didn't he
- 54:32give up the franchise? Phillips. He gave up...
- 54:34I heard he was kind of... I thought he was just
- 54:36a coach. Mm -mm. I thought he was the owner.
- 54:39No, he was the coach. Oh, he was the coach. Oh,
- 54:41yeah. I remember his big old Texas hat, those
- 54:44gallon hats. He was like, Papa Texas. Yeah. Yeah.
- 54:47He looked rough. Looks like me after being at
- 54:52a football game. I love him. Let's bring that
- 54:57outfit back. We should all dress up like our
- 55:00favorite NFL coach. Oh, well now they're so cute.
- 55:04They're so young. They might hit your laminated
- 55:07list. Right. Except for that, except for that
- 55:10booger eating coach. Remember? Who's that one?
- 55:12He's at Oklahoma State, but they, they, I tried
- 55:15to Google that after and they don't even put
- 55:17that out there anymore. They like, they wipe
- 55:19the... If anybody has a video of the booger eating
- 55:22coach, please send it to us. Oklahoma State.
- 55:24Cause it made us laugh so hard. Oh my gosh. I
- 55:26was like, oh my gosh. Okay. What is your favorite
- 55:29holiday memory? Do you like holidays? Uh, no.
- 55:33I mean, no. Well, I feel like you make all gatherings
- 55:37a holiday. Every day is a holiday for Land Sakes.
- 55:41Let's just go for it. Yeah. Why do we need a
- 55:43special day? That's the thing. It's like, you're
- 55:44like, I don't need it to be a date on the calendar,
- 55:47which is ironic for you because you love the
- 55:49holiday. I just make every day a holiday. It's
- 55:52like, every day's a holiday. Let's... Let's have
- 55:55fun. Let's do it. I think because of our life,
- 56:01you know, holidays just are, you know, sometimes
- 56:05uncomfortable for, so that it just was like,
- 56:09okay, we're not gonna put a lot of value in them.
- 56:10And we just modified. But yeah, I mean, I thought...
- 56:19I mean St. Patrick's Day for Land Sakes is like
- 56:23so fun. It's right next to Jodi's birthday. And
- 56:27so we always get to tie it in. Super fun. All
- 56:30right. So we're moving on to our next. These
- 56:32are our topics. So we're basically are we're
- 56:35going to be doing interviews with friends. And
- 56:39then we go into what was something fun you did
- 56:41this week? Oh, yeah. What do you have planned
- 56:44for next? So we had John he had some people come
- 56:51in from out of town and so we were hosting them
- 56:53at our house and we went to Suerte in Austin.
- 56:56So is that like a tapas? Is that how you would
- 56:59describe it? Like Suerte is a restaurant on the
- 57:05east side of Austin and it is delicious. I was
- 57:12thinking of Sway the other day when I was like,
- 57:15did you get the big fish? Oh, no. Okay. It's
- 57:20a Michelin. Oh, yeah, I've been to Sway. A restaurant.
- 57:24It's so great. I did not. Hey, we just got Michelins
- 57:28in Texas. Okay. So I'm just going to read real
- 57:30quick. Located in the heart of East Austin. Back
- 57:34in the day, it was the heart. I think the hearts
- 57:36kind of moved a little bit, but it's an award
- 57:39-winning restaurant driven by the passion for
- 57:41masa, an ingredient at the heart of Mexican cuisine
- 57:45and cooking. Chef Furman and his team curate
- 57:49a seasonal driven menu with an emphasis on bringing
- 57:51together traditional Mexican cooking techniques
- 57:53with local Texas ingredients. Now, I do not remember
- 57:56the name of our waiter, but he was incredible.
- 58:01And I have to make sure I write down the names
- 58:04of our waiters because they are, I think they
- 58:08bring the fun, I want to go back a thousand times,
- 58:14but the food was, I would recommend it. And the
- 58:18people that came, they were from Florida, but
- 58:22they're originally from Buffalo, New York. Nice.
- 58:27And so we took them over to Nickel City and they
- 58:30loved it. They got their favorite, the beer from
- 58:34Buffalo. And I got my favorite frozen Irish coffee.
- 58:40Would you say Nickel City is like in our top
- 58:4320 places? I think it's one of my favorites.
- 58:48We had this steak meal that was... Oh, carne
- 58:54asada. It was grilled New York strip salsa on
- 58:58top of salsa with okra. Oh, delicious. A black
- 59:03bean puree. It was so... Good. You did not even
- 59:06need a tortilla. Oh, man, that sounds... But
- 59:08if you had a... They gave us tortillas. I didn't
- 59:11even eat the tortillas. I was just... I could
- 59:13have licked that platter. Oh, yeah. But that
- 59:16would have been rude. Man, there's a place in
- 59:19Louisiana, in New Orleans, and everybody's gonna
- 59:24be so mad that I don't know the name of this.
- 59:25But at the end, I really wanted to lick the plate.
- 59:28I know. Like, really bad. When Kelly comes, we'll
- 59:32ask her because she knows. Ah, everybody, it's
- 59:35a famous Louisiana place and, um, Jacamo's. Jacamo's.
- 59:40Yes. Okay. I legitimately wanted to lick the
- 59:44plate. Maybe we're going to bring that in. Is
- 59:46this a lick the plate kind of plate? Is this
- 59:48a lick the plate? Uh, that was a lick the plate
- 59:51meal. Um, loved it. But one time John, when he
- 59:54was little, his mom was like, okay, John, you
- 59:57got to clean the plates. And he licked them and
- 59:59he goes, mine's clean. Oh, what a true Louisiana
- 1:00:06statement. He's so cute. We have some friends
- 1:00:09that we want to interview. So many good people.
- 1:00:13Texas, Texas, yee -haw!
