- 0:00Speaker 1: It's 38 all. Bills can win it here. Wright puts
- 0:03Speaker 1: it down. The kick is on the way and it
- 0:05Speaker 1: is good. And the Bills have won it. The Bills
- 0:10Speaker 1: have won it. The Bills have won it. They win
- 0:14Speaker 1: it 41 to 38. Incredible. What a comeback by the Bills.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Jacksonville's perfect record on the line right here. Looney, keep it.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Left side, touchdown. Kyle Williams, touchdown. Amazing. Unbelievable. They put
- 0:53Speaker 1: in Williams. Has to pull back. And he scores a touchdown.
- 0:58Speaker 1: The 12th year defensive tackle. It's really incredible. This place
- 1:07Speaker 1: is pandemonium. What's good, folks, family, friends, loved ones, enemies, frenemies, wizards, witches, muggles, mudbloods,

- 1:54Speaker 1: be talking about the Buffalo Bills secondary. C.J. Garner-Johnson was
- 1:59Speaker 1: released today by the Buffalo Bills, and that move comes
- 2:04Speaker 1: on the heels of the secondary playing relatively and largely
- 2:08Speaker 1: well against the Baltimore Ravens. Yes, Before anybody jumps in, yes,
- 2:12Speaker 1: it is to be taken with a grain of salt. Yes,
- 2:14Speaker 1: they were playing a third-string quarterback. Yes, they had injuries
- 2:18Speaker 1: to their offense. Yes to all those things, right? Yes,
- 2:22Speaker 1: there are variables, grain of salt, all those things, all
- 2:25Speaker 1: those things. But the secondary played well. They looked calm.
- 2:32Speaker 1: They looked poised. C.J. Garner-Johnson suspended for that game after
- 2:36Speaker 1: the spitting incident. The secondary has been I feel like
- 2:40Speaker 1: the crux of a lot of conversations throughout the start
- 2:44Speaker 1: of this year and heading into the buy and then
- 2:45Speaker 1: coming out of the buy with the poor play, the miscommunication,
- 2:48Speaker 1: the questions, the trade market, people want Buddha Baker, me,
- 2:52Speaker 1: people want a money hooker. I would also take that.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Some people want to combine them. I would also take that. Um, it's,
- 2:58Speaker 1: it's a, you know, the safety position group. I keep
- 3:01Speaker 1: making the joke is that, uh, football gods curse the
- 3:04Speaker 1: bills after years of consistency and strong play between, um, the,
- 3:10Speaker 1: between Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer, they cursed the football gods,
- 3:15Speaker 1: cursed the bills, which is kind of regular play, uh,
- 3:18Speaker 1: at the safety position going forward. Um, I am not
- 3:20Speaker 1: doing film in this episode. I did a full film
- 3:23Speaker 1: breakdown on a bunch of things from the bills defense
- 3:25Speaker 1: that I put out yesterday. So if you want some
- 3:27Speaker 1: film stuff on the bills defense, um, check out that episode, uh,
- 3:31Speaker 1: that I put out yesterday. Also probably maybe be doing,
- 3:33Speaker 1: or that shouldn't say probably, I'm also looking to do
- 3:35Speaker 1: some film stuff towards the back end of the week. Um, But, yeah,
- 3:39Speaker 1: not doing– I've been doing film episodes pretty regularly on
- 3:41Speaker 1: the show, minus the one-off last week for Ravens Week
- 3:45Speaker 1: and having a guest in that. But I'm either looking
- 3:48Speaker 1: to put out stuff the day after Bill's games or,
- 3:51Speaker 1: you know, regularly in the Tuesday live slot. So no
- 3:54Speaker 1: film in this episode. More discussion-based and schematics-focused as always,
- 3:58Speaker 1: but no film in this episode. If you want some
- 4:01Speaker 1: good tape on the Bills defense feeling more like a
- 4:04Speaker 1: Jim Leonard defense, looking more like a Jim Leonard defense
- 4:07Speaker 1: against the Ravens, Um, you can check that episode out
- 4:09Speaker 1: on disguise coverage, uh, that I dropped yesterday. I forget
- 4:13Speaker 1: what it's called. It's called, uh, I'm terrible with like
- 4:18Speaker 1: remembering what, what did I title it? The Buffalo bills
- 4:21Speaker 1: defense attacked the Ravens offense that dropped yesterday. So if
- 4:24Speaker 1: you want some tape, go take a, go take a
- 4:27Speaker 1: peek at that. But yeah, the, the, the bills secondary
- 4:32Speaker 1: went through changes in the off season, uh, You know,
- 4:35Speaker 1: he had a new starting corner opposite of Christian Benford.
- 4:37Speaker 1: No matter who he thought it was, whether it was
- 4:39Speaker 1: Max Harrison, Davison Igbenosin, it was going to be a
- 4:41Speaker 1: new starting corner there. Sorry, I just put my hand
- 4:43Speaker 1: with the camera back in focus. It was going to
- 4:45Speaker 1: be one of those two. Dee Alford came in. Oh,
- 4:48Speaker 1: appreciate you saying, you know, book books, games that are
- 4:51Speaker 1: already watching. Well, thank you very much for watching. I
- 4:52Speaker 1: hope you enjoyed. Dee Alford comes in. Taron Johnson's out.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Chauncey Gardner Johnson comes in. Looks to be the running
- 4:59Speaker 1: mate with Cole Bishop. Geno Stone comes in as well.
- 5:03Speaker 1: And then just... all the conversation pieces that have happened
- 5:07Speaker 1: this off season and to start the season. And so
- 5:09Speaker 1: with the news of Chauncey Gardner Johnson today, it kind
- 5:11Speaker 1: of reinforced the direction I already wanted to go in.
- 5:14Speaker 1: I really just wanted to do an episode focusing on
- 5:17Speaker 1: to Corey couch and not because I'm a Miami hurricanes fan.
- 5:20Speaker 1: And I've seen so much of him going back to
- 5:21Speaker 1: his college days, but the secondary, I just think was,
- 5:26Speaker 1: you know, and is a large part of the conversation
- 5:29Speaker 1: with this team. It seems like, a position that the
- 5:33Speaker 1: Bills could address at the trade deadline, you could make
- 5:38Speaker 1: the case that releasing Chauncey Gardner-Johnson reinforces that need and
- 5:44Speaker 1: or desire to trade for safety at the trade deadline
- 5:47Speaker 1: and maybe even potentially telegraphs a trade for safety at
- 5:50Speaker 1: the deadline. We can talk about that a little bit
- 5:53Speaker 1: in this episode, but really, as the episode description states,
- 5:58Speaker 1: I just wanted to talk in this episode about the
- 6:01Speaker 1: Bills' secondary and What's the best combination of players for 2026?
- 6:06Speaker 1: Who's a long-term piece? What does Jim Leonard need now
- 6:11Speaker 1: in the short term and in the future and all
- 6:13Speaker 1: of that going forward? I'm going to switch the banners.
- 6:15Speaker 1: We start to move into that focus on this episode.
- 6:17Speaker 1: As always, questions, thoughts, comments, concerns, philosophies, ideologies, maxims, anything
- 6:22Speaker 1: and everything you folks got. If you are joining me
- 6:24Speaker 1: here live on this episode, please feel free to jump
- 6:26Speaker 1: into the live chat with anything and everything you got.
- 6:31Speaker 1: As always, Super Chats get priority because I respect the
- 6:33Speaker 1: monetary donation. And the color distracts me from my notes
- 6:37Speaker 1: and brings me back to the chat and the conversation.
- 6:41Speaker 1: And P says, probably need cap room. That would be ideal.
- 6:45Speaker 1: But there's always ways to circumnavigate some things. Granted, you know,
- 6:49Speaker 1: a lot of the ways to circumnavigate that stuff is
- 6:52Speaker 1: kind of what has been at the crux of some
- 6:56Speaker 1: of the bills cap issues. You know, you use those
- 6:58Speaker 1: void years or, you know, you convert money to signing
- 7:00Speaker 1: bonus and you spread it out and then it ends
- 7:02Speaker 1: up being somebody, you know, keep around and you're on
- 7:04Speaker 1: the hook for dead cap. Um, so there have been,
- 7:07Speaker 1: you know, kick the can down the road type moves
- 7:09Speaker 1: that the bills are still kind of paying for. Um,
- 7:11Speaker 1: you know, the second deal for Daquan Jones, the original
- 7:14Speaker 1: Larry Ogan, Joby deal. Um, Matt Milano, I think is
- 7:16Speaker 1: still on the books for this year as well. Um, yeah,
- 7:21Speaker 1: there's a cap room would definitely help. Um, but there
- 7:24Speaker 1: are ways to circumnavigate that for this year. Now, again,
- 7:28Speaker 1: you might have to pay the toll come 2027 or
- 7:31Speaker 1: 2028 or 2029, but there are ways to kind of
- 7:34Speaker 1: get around some of the things. First thing I want
- 7:40Speaker 1: to talk about, let's just start right in the safety
- 7:42Speaker 1: room with the departure of C.J. Garner-Johnson. I would like
- 7:46Speaker 1: to make a trade. I've said this since the offseason.
- 7:53Speaker 1: I personally want Buda Baker. I'm a little hesitant because
- 7:56Speaker 1: of his age and the style that he plays is
- 8:00Speaker 1: so physical, is so violent. Age and some of the frame,
- 8:04Speaker 1: you know, stuff that comes along with him. I don't
- 8:07Speaker 1: know how, you know, there is some trepidation in me
- 8:10Speaker 1: in terms of how his game would age. But with
- 8:14Speaker 1: the chess piece that he is and what he offers
- 8:17Speaker 1: against the run, coming forward, in coverage, the violence, the leadership,
- 8:22Speaker 1: just so much of what he can do. I would
- 8:25Speaker 1: love that. Now I think the Buddha Baker deal is
- 8:28Speaker 1: less likely because of the money that he has owed
- 8:30Speaker 1: and the cap situation for the bills. And given how
- 8:35Speaker 1: Cole Bishop is being used in the bills, dime looks, um,
- 8:40Speaker 1: and what we saw against the Ravens, I don't know
- 8:43Speaker 1: if Buddha necessarily makes more sense. If you're talking about
- 8:45Speaker 1: a straight fit of like rumored safeties to the bills
- 8:48Speaker 1: or ones, I'll just go with the names that, you know,
- 8:50Speaker 1: a lot of fans have been talking about. Um, I
- 8:53Speaker 1: think Cam Bynum or Imani Hooker makes much more sense
- 8:55Speaker 1: for the Bills. I think skewing towards someone who is
- 8:59Speaker 1: more coverage-based. Cam Bynum can do a lot of cool
- 9:02Speaker 1: man coverage stuff, which is nice. That goes back to
- 9:04Speaker 1: his time in Minnesota. Hooker is just a good coverage guy,
- 9:07Speaker 1: good range, good eyes. I think both of those guys
- 9:11Speaker 1: are more likely and make much more sense than Buda Baker.
- 9:14Speaker 1: I would take Buda Baker, and I love him. He's
- 9:18Speaker 1: been one of my favorite players in the league for
- 9:19Speaker 1: a while, really, ever since he came out of Washington.
- 9:23Speaker 1: but a lot of this is tying into the fits
- 9:26Speaker 1: at safety. Now, what's also interesting about this is it
- 9:30Speaker 1: ties into the long-term picture at safety, right? So even
- 9:34Speaker 1: if Chauncey Gardner Johnson worked out, he was on a
- 9:36Speaker 1: one-year deal. You were probably going to have to pick,
- 9:38Speaker 1: you know, address safety next year, uh, unless you ended
- 9:41Speaker 1: up re-upping with Chauncey or unless Jalen Kilgore is the
- 9:44Speaker 1: guy or unless the answer's in the room, Hamlin stone, whoever. Um,
- 9:48Speaker 1: but even those guys, you know, you have to kind
- 9:49Speaker 1: of ink them long-term. Um, Me personally, I also think
- 9:56Speaker 1: this year is a, like a make or break year
- 10:00Speaker 1: for Cole Bishop. If he doesn't show consistency, first of all,
- 10:04Speaker 1: it's the continuing to stay healthy, which has been a
- 10:06Speaker 1: huge consistency part for him. The best ability is availability, yada, yada,
- 10:10Speaker 1: so on and so forth. But he's looked so lost
- 10:14Speaker 1: at times this year in coverage. And Jim Leonard's talked
- 10:16Speaker 1: about it. Like he's trying to do too much pre-snap and, um,
- 10:19Speaker 1: it's kind of, you know, too much for him, um,
- 10:22Speaker 1: from a mental standpoint, it's kind of gumming up the works,
- 10:25Speaker 1: but he, I still think Cole Bishop, I still think
- 10:31Speaker 1: Cole Bishop is more traits than he is football player,
- 10:35Speaker 1: which isn't necessarily the worst thing. Doesn't mean he won't
- 10:38Speaker 1: be a good player or can't be a good player
- 10:40Speaker 1: now in the future, next week, you know, this week,
- 10:43Speaker 1: you know, next month, anything like that. Um, But I
- 10:46Speaker 1: think right now you could make the case that the
- 10:48Speaker 1: Bills could use two new starting safeties in the offseason
- 10:51Speaker 1: next year, depending on what happens to Cole Bishop. And
- 10:54Speaker 1: if everything stays pat, if they stay with the status quo,
- 10:56Speaker 1: if they go the rest of the year and the
- 10:58Speaker 1: safety room is just from a three-man, the top three,
- 11:02Speaker 1: if it's Bishop, Hamlin, and Stone, you have to get
- 11:07Speaker 1: a starter in the offseason to then pair with, in theory,
- 11:10Speaker 1: Cole Bishop. But if Cole Bishop continues to ebb and
- 11:13Speaker 1: flow and had this inconsistent up and down roller coaster
- 11:16Speaker 1: type of play where he looks just lost at times
- 11:19Speaker 1: with no feel for routes and poor spatial awareness. I
- 11:23Speaker 1: think you can make the case that the bills could
- 11:25Speaker 1: need two new starting safeties next year. So if that's part,
- 11:29Speaker 1: potentially like a thought, you know, a move for someone
- 11:33Speaker 1: like Baker, if you want to play devil's advocate could
- 11:37Speaker 1: kind of wait because Buddha Baker can do all the
- 11:39Speaker 1: safety stuff, but he is more of a monster man
- 11:41Speaker 1: kind of, especially for me, what I view Cole Bishop
- 11:45Speaker 1: best as I've said this for so many years, I
- 11:48Speaker 1: view him as a player that is best when he's
- 11:51Speaker 1: in and around the line of scrimmage in and around
- 11:53Speaker 1: the box. So with down safety, you know, a box
- 11:55Speaker 1: safety apex player, more of a big nickel, honestly, a
- 11:58Speaker 1: lot of stuff that we saw him doing against the
- 12:00Speaker 1: Ravens where he's in and around the line of scrimmage.
- 12:03Speaker 1: He's manned up on tight ends. Every once in a while,
- 12:05Speaker 1: he's manned up on a wide receiver, manned up on
- 12:07Speaker 1: some running backs, He's getting pulled into the box at
- 12:10Speaker 1: the second level, and he's blitzing from an off-ball linebacker position.
- 12:15Speaker 1: He gets blitzed and gets that sack early in the
- 12:17Speaker 1: second quarter, that strip sack that turns into a turnover.
- 12:21Speaker 1: I think that's how you want to use Cole Bishop.
- 12:23Speaker 1: He made some progression further away from the line of scrimmage,
- 12:27Speaker 1: just like a traditional deep safety, either in single high
- 12:29Speaker 1: looks in the post or in two deep looks. But
- 12:31Speaker 1: I've never seen him as like, oh, yeah, like a
- 12:34Speaker 1: Cole Bishop, like single high middle of the field safety. Oh, yeah,
- 12:36Speaker 1: Cole Bishop, like one of your split field safeties in
- 12:39Speaker 1: quarters or cover two or cover six or anything like that. Like,
- 12:41Speaker 1: can he do that? Sure. Is it fun when you
- 12:44Speaker 1: get into big nickel with three safeties? And who are
- 12:48Speaker 1: the guys that are dropping? Who's the guy that's the apex? Oh,
- 12:51Speaker 1: this is kind of fun. But I think Cole Bishop
- 12:53Speaker 1: skews more towards that role. I think Buda also does
- 12:58Speaker 1: a lot of really great stuff in that role. Arizona
- 13:01Speaker 1: has done three safety stuff for several years. They've been
- 13:03Speaker 1: very creative. And they'll do like three high safety stuff pre-snap,
- 13:08Speaker 1: and then they'll play kind of like that Tampa 2 inverter,
- 13:11Speaker 1: that Tampa 2 robber. And Buda Baker will be that
- 13:15Speaker 1: middle pole runner, that Tampa player, a la, you know,
- 13:17Speaker 1: Derrick Brooks, Brian Urlacher. But instead of, you know, being
- 13:22Speaker 1: an off-ball linebacker spot and running the pole, you know,
- 13:25Speaker 1: down to up, he'll play the poll top down. And again,
- 13:30Speaker 1: Buddha can do coverage stuff, but I think Buddha is
- 13:32Speaker 1: more of a monster man than he is a coverage safety.
- 13:35Speaker 1: And I think Cole Bishop is much more of a
- 13:37Speaker 1: monster man than he is, you know, kind of like
- 13:41Speaker 1: a rangy playmaking ball hawking type of safety. So if I,
- 13:47Speaker 1: so Buddha Baker for me, that's just one I've liked
- 13:49Speaker 1: for years. I posted before the season started, like, you know, Hey,
- 13:53Speaker 1: come trade deadline time. If the Cardinals are out of it,
- 13:56Speaker 1: which it probably would be, I think a playoff-pushing team
- 14:00Speaker 1: should trade for Buda Baker. And Buda Baker's always been
- 14:04Speaker 1: an Arizona guy. I don't know if he wants out,
- 14:05Speaker 1: wants to get a taste of the playoffs and see
- 14:07Speaker 1: what he can do, but I don't know if the
- 14:09Speaker 1: fit is ideal. I think you're looking for more of
- 14:15Speaker 1: a range-based, coverage-based safety, which means Imani Hooker plays more
- 14:20Speaker 1: towards that. If you want to keep doing cover zero
- 14:22Speaker 1: stuff and man coverage stuff, I think Cam Bynum makes
- 14:25Speaker 1: a lot of sense for that. I think Bynum makes
- 14:26Speaker 1: sense kind of no matter what, because he's got a
- 14:29Speaker 1: really fun skill set and a versatile skill set that
- 14:31Speaker 1: you can do so much with. But I think both
- 14:33Speaker 1: Bynum and Hooker make more sense from a coverage standpoint,
- 14:36Speaker 1: make more sense. They make more sense from a fit
- 14:38Speaker 1: standpoint because of their coverage first skill set. Not that
- 14:42Speaker 1: they can't tackle, not that they can't come forward, but
- 14:44Speaker 1: Buda is much more of a monster man type of guy,
- 14:48Speaker 1: similar to Cole Bishop. And while that would be sick
- 14:50Speaker 1: to also have two of those dudes, um, I think
- 14:54Speaker 1: it makes more sense to go with more of the
- 14:56Speaker 1: range based safety. Um, but again, if that, that point
- 15:01Speaker 1: could be moot, if you need two new safeties next year.
- 15:05Speaker 1: And if it's like, Oh, well, I'd rather know that
- 15:06Speaker 1: Buddha Baker is the cornerstone of the safety room next year.
- 15:09Speaker 1: You know, if you kind of want to play devil's advocate. Um,
- 15:11Speaker 1: but the bill has been working in a ton of
- 15:13Speaker 1: dime this year. They have been one of the league
- 15:16Speaker 1: leaders in dime on, um, the season. I'm pulling up
- 15:21Speaker 1: my notes on that now. Um, we saw a lot
- 15:25Speaker 1: of dime in the game or, you know, we saw
- 15:26Speaker 1: multiple reps of dime in the game against the Ravens. Um,
- 15:30Speaker 1: and you know, again, you're getting in dime, you're getting
- 15:33Speaker 1: those 60 B's on the field as we get the, ah,
- 15:37Speaker 1: thank you. The bills are third in dime rate this
- 15:39Speaker 1: year at 18.4%. Um, and when they're going into dime,
- 15:44Speaker 1: you're seeing three safeties on the field. And when you're
- 15:46Speaker 1: seeing three safeties on the field, you know, this past
- 15:48Speaker 1: week against the Ravens, it was Gino and Hamlin deep. And,
- 15:51Speaker 1: Cole Bishop was, you know, essentially a down safety apex
- 15:54Speaker 1: type of player that goes back to what it was
- 15:56Speaker 1: during training camp when they were going dime and training camp,
- 16:00Speaker 1: Cole Bishop, same thing, down safety apex type of player.
- 16:04Speaker 1: And it was Chauncey and Gino stone who were back there.
- 16:07Speaker 1: And then it was Chauncey and DeMar Hamlin was there
- 16:09Speaker 1: kind of working some things, but anytime they went dime
- 16:11Speaker 1: and brought another safety on the field, Cole Bishop was
- 16:14Speaker 1: that down safety. Um, and again, I think that plays
- 16:16Speaker 1: more towards his skillset, um, And I felt that way
- 16:20Speaker 1: for years. I still feel that way. I think he's
- 16:23Speaker 1: more traits than he is football player. So let's keep
- 16:26Speaker 1: his role simple. Hey, man, go man up against this
- 16:28Speaker 1: tight end, man up against this running back. Play with
- 16:30Speaker 1: your leverage. Play with your technique. Play your keys. Hey,
- 16:33Speaker 1: let's blitz you. Let's have you shoot this gap. Let's
- 16:35Speaker 1: have you blitz the open side B gap on this play.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Let's rush you through this other B gap with another linebacker.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Try and create a two-on-one against a running back. Even
- 16:45Speaker 1: the first third down of the game, I posted this
- 16:47Speaker 1: play earlier. Cole Bishop was lined up on the center,
- 16:52Speaker 1: on the line of scrimmage. And then he kind of
- 16:53Speaker 1: like false rushes to get the running back to commit.
- 16:55Speaker 1: And then he loops around Chubb and Oliver who are
- 17:00Speaker 1: slanting and Cole Bishop becomes like the contain pressure or
- 17:03Speaker 1: contain rush kind of guy. So again, all of that,
- 17:07Speaker 1: I think that's the role they want for Cole Bishop.
- 17:09Speaker 1: I think that's what unlocking Cole Bishop looks like. So
- 17:13Speaker 1: even if things stay as they are, right, let's not, Say, okay,
- 17:17Speaker 1: you know, the bills are going to trade for this guy.
- 17:18Speaker 1: The safety room is going to change. Say the safety
- 17:20Speaker 1: room stays as is. Jamar Hamlin, Geno Stone, Cole Bishop.
- 17:25Speaker 1: I think you're going to get those dime looks. Cole
- 17:29Speaker 1: Bishop is going to be that down safety. He's going
- 17:30Speaker 1: to be that apex player. You know, you're going to
- 17:32Speaker 1: have a nickel to one side, whether it's the offer
- 17:35Speaker 1: or my boy to Corey couch, and you're going to
- 17:37Speaker 1: have Cole Bishop is that apex player to that other side.
- 17:39Speaker 1: And again, as you start to get comfortable with, you
- 17:43Speaker 1: can do some cool stuff, especially with Bishop's athleticism. You
- 17:46Speaker 1: can show him as an apex player, like a slot,
- 17:50Speaker 1: you know, corner type look. And then you can have
- 17:53Speaker 1: him spin and drop as a deep half, deep half player.
- 17:55Speaker 1: He can even run and drop from, or drop to
- 17:58Speaker 1: like the post and play middle of field type stuff.
- 18:00Speaker 1: You can start to get creative and start to get
- 18:02Speaker 1: schematically diverse. If, if people are feeling comfortable and creative.
- 18:07Speaker 1: And so I expect that to be the rotation going forward.
- 18:11Speaker 1: If you trade for a safety, let's just pretend they
- 18:15Speaker 1: trade for a money hooker, then you just sub out
- 18:17Speaker 1: Stone or Hamlin, whichever one, probably Stone, although he played
- 18:22Speaker 1: well and had some nice splash plays against the Ravens.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Say you take him out, then it's hooker and stone deep.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Bishop is that guy who's going to stay down in
- 18:31Speaker 1: and around the box. Apex player, big nickel slot. Whatever
- 18:35Speaker 1: verbiage helps you envision what I'm saying, that's what I
- 18:39Speaker 1: think he's going to be. And so even if they
- 18:42Speaker 1: don't trade for anyone, that's your starting safeties, I think,
- 18:45Speaker 1: are going to be Cole Bishop and Jamar Hamlin. Then
- 18:47Speaker 1: when they go dime, which they like to on third
- 18:50Speaker 1: downs a bunch, they'll bring in Geno Stone. Cole Bishop
- 18:53Speaker 1: will walk down. And then you'll get Hamlin and Stone
- 18:57Speaker 1: on the back end. Jalen Kilgore. I saw some comments
- 19:00Speaker 1: in the chat around Jalen Kilgore. Jalen Kilgore, I think,
- 19:04Speaker 1: is kind of similar to Bishop in the sense of
- 19:08Speaker 1: more traits than football player. Talked about that in his
- 19:13Speaker 1: tape in the offseason before he was drafted as a
- 19:16Speaker 1: Bill and then once he became a Bill. I talked
- 19:18Speaker 1: about it a bunch in camp. Even when he was
- 19:20Speaker 1: making plays during camp, especially some of the deep ones,
- 19:25Speaker 1: he was getting coverage as, well, Jalen Kilgore, two pass
- 19:28Speaker 1: breakups today, like really great plays downfield. And almost like
- 19:33Speaker 1: kind of wasn't, not even kind of, it wasn't. You know,
- 19:36Speaker 1: he was getting beat over the top. but then Shane
- 19:39Speaker 1: Buchel or Kyle Allen just didn't have the arm to
- 19:42Speaker 1: hit the guys deep. And so the ball would hang up,
- 19:45Speaker 1: the receivers would have to stop, and kill gore because
- 19:47Speaker 1: he's really athletic and fast when he was able to
- 19:49Speaker 1: have some recovery speed to make a play on the
- 19:51Speaker 1: ball essentially what you saw happen against the raiders for
- 19:55Speaker 1: that touchdown deep to trey tucker that was happening not
- 19:59Speaker 1: not i'm not saying this like as a naked wearer
- 20:00Speaker 1: to pour cold water on him that was happening to
- 20:02Speaker 1: him in camp all three days that i was there
- 20:05Speaker 1: but despite the fact that maybe he isn't the sexiest quarterback,
- 20:09Speaker 1: there's a difference between Kirk Cousins at quarterback and Kirk
- 20:11Speaker 1: Cousins arm strength. And it is Kyle Allen and Shane Buchel.
- 20:14Speaker 1: So Trey Tucker took off. Kirk Cousins got that thing
- 20:17Speaker 1: out in front of Tucker through a beautiful ball and
- 20:19Speaker 1: Kilgore got beat over the top in quarters. That was
- 20:22Speaker 1: the same kind of stuff that happened to him in camp.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Now that's not the worst thing in the world. Jalen Kilgore,
- 20:28Speaker 1: even though he's a safety was really, well, how have
- 20:31Speaker 1: I been talking about Cole Bishop in this episode? That
- 20:34Speaker 1: was more, Kilgore at South Carolina. Kilgore was more nickel
- 20:38Speaker 1: apex type of player. He was a big nickel monster
- 20:41Speaker 1: man type of dude. He gets drafted by the bills.
- 20:44Speaker 1: They want to have him be more of a true safety. Essentially.
- 20:48Speaker 1: It's funny. Like how Nick M and worry is used.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Not necessarily to that degree, but like M and worry
- 20:54Speaker 1: is essentially a weak side linebacker for the Seahawks. But
- 20:57Speaker 1: Kilgore was a box player, a nickel player, a slot player. Um,
- 21:02Speaker 1: he was a starter obviously, but when I say nickel,
- 21:04Speaker 1: I mean, he was in the slot. Like he was
- 21:05Speaker 1: a big, he was the bills, Taryn Johnson, things that
- 21:07Speaker 1: Taryn Johnson was doing. That's what Jalen Kilgore was doing
- 21:10Speaker 1: just in a bigger, faster, more athletic version. Um, I
- 21:14Speaker 1: wish he played more physical with the size that he had,
- 21:17Speaker 1: but you know, whatever he's athletic and big, which is fun.
- 21:20Speaker 1: The bills take him. They want to put him as
- 21:23Speaker 1: more of a traditional or a true safety. You're going
- 21:26Speaker 1: to need time on task to kind of get him
- 21:28Speaker 1: up to speed. It is a one. It's a different game.
- 21:31Speaker 1: at the nfl level because of the quality of opponent
- 21:34Speaker 1: you're playing the speed at which opponents play the routes
- 21:39Speaker 1: that guy the teams get to the concepts they use
- 21:41Speaker 1: the quarterbacks their arms their eyes how they'll look you
- 21:44Speaker 1: off how they'll bait you the throws that they can
- 21:46Speaker 1: hit again you know the difference between buchel and kyle
- 21:49Speaker 1: allen and camp versus kirk cousins in that raiders game
- 21:51Speaker 1: right and that's even worse in college right guys won't
- 21:54Speaker 1: necessarily make you pay um I think it's the game
- 21:58Speaker 1: against Clemson. He tries to jump something and gets completely
- 22:01Speaker 1: beat over the top in the low red zone. Ball
- 22:03Speaker 1: hangs up in the air. He recovers and makes a
- 22:05Speaker 1: great play on the ball. And it's like, whoa, what
- 22:06Speaker 1: a play by Kilgore. And it's like, not really. He
- 22:08Speaker 1: got burned horribly. It just didn't bite him. It will
- 22:12Speaker 1: bite him in the NFL. And it did in that
- 22:14Speaker 1: Raiders game. Again, not the worst thing in the world.
- 22:17Speaker 1: I said it before the season started. I'm going to
- 22:19Speaker 1: keep saying the same message. I don't think this is
- 22:21Speaker 1: a year where you're going to see much from Jalen Kilgore.
- 22:24Speaker 1: The only way you see something from Jalen Kilgore is,
- 22:27Speaker 1: and I don't mean this as a negative against him
- 22:29Speaker 1: as if all things fall apart at the safety position
- 22:31Speaker 1: where you have a multitude of injuries, guys are going
- 22:33Speaker 1: down and it's just like, Oh, we got, we got
- 22:35Speaker 1: to throw him in there. Like, I mean, kind of
- 22:38Speaker 1: like the Raiders game, Chauncey gets ejected and you're like, Oh,
- 22:41Speaker 1: and then Kilgore goes in there for your dime stuff.
- 22:44Speaker 1: So I'm not expecting a lot from Kilgore this year.
- 22:47Speaker 1: I think he needs time on task, see the field
- 22:50Speaker 1: from that safety position, learn the game from that vantage point,
- 22:53Speaker 1: get comfortable feel for routes and, feeling route distributions, reading
- 22:58Speaker 1: route distributions, reading quarterbacks, understanding your angles. I will say
- 23:01Speaker 1: I liked what I saw in the preseason and even
- 23:04Speaker 1: a play against the Raiders too, where his sense and
- 23:07Speaker 1: feel and communication, especially as like the backside, like post
- 23:10Speaker 1: safety or that trick safety, when he'll turn, he hinges,
- 23:14Speaker 1: he almost had an interception against the Raiders when he
- 23:17Speaker 1: got in there on this. Like there's, I think it's
- 23:19Speaker 1: a dig coming from the front side, but he reads
- 23:22Speaker 1: it and he sits and he hinges and he jumps
- 23:24Speaker 1: that thing. He should have picked it off. I think
- 23:27Speaker 1: he's an exciting player. I just think he's more tools
- 23:30Speaker 1: and traits than he is, you know, a football player
- 23:33Speaker 1: right now, especially from the deep, deep safety standpoint, he's
- 23:36Speaker 1: got to learn that game. And I think that's why,
- 23:39Speaker 1: you know, you go with Hamlin and you go with
- 23:41Speaker 1: Gino stone. I know the bills played a third string
- 23:46Speaker 1: quarterback and all the conversation pieces that come with that. Right.
- 23:49Speaker 1: But Hamlin stone are both high floor players from, and
- 23:54Speaker 1: awareness and acknowledgement standpoint. You know, Geno Stone has his
- 23:57Speaker 1: issues with tackling. He's not the most athletic guy, but
- 24:00Speaker 1: when he was piling up all those interceptions with the
- 24:02Speaker 1: Ravens several years ago that got him that free agent deal,
- 24:06Speaker 1: he essentially was a right player, you know, right place
- 24:10Speaker 1: at the right time type of player. And it wasn't
- 24:12Speaker 1: by luck. It wasn't by happenstance. He's good at feeling good. routes.
- 24:18Speaker 1: He's good at reading route distributions. He's good with his
- 24:20Speaker 1: spatial awareness. He's just not the biggest. He's not the fastest.
- 24:23Speaker 1: He's not the quickest. And he's had some really horrible
- 24:25Speaker 1: tackling the past couple of years, but he knows where
- 24:28Speaker 1: to be from a coverage standpoint. And we saw that
- 24:31Speaker 1: several times in that game. He's a high floor type
- 24:33Speaker 1: of player. Doesn't mean, you know, he's a solid starter
- 24:37Speaker 1: and a sound starter. You should put them him, him
- 24:39Speaker 1: in there, but you take stone and you pair them
- 24:42Speaker 1: with DeMar Hamlin. Both of those dudes are be responsible,
- 24:46Speaker 1: be in your spot type of guys. I've said it
- 24:47Speaker 1: for years with Hamlin. He's kind of the perfect Sean
- 24:51Speaker 1: McDermott guy. That's why he stayed around so long. He
- 24:53Speaker 1: was one of those guys where he's not making the
- 24:55Speaker 1: splash play. He's not going to, you know, jump this
- 24:58Speaker 1: route and read this and make a great pick. He's
- 25:00Speaker 1: a high floor type of player. He knows where he's
- 25:02Speaker 1: supposed to be, how he's supposed to be there. And
- 25:06Speaker 1: that's what he's going to do. And that's what the
- 25:07Speaker 1: Bills needed in the secondary. They had so much disconnect
- 25:11Speaker 1: between the second level and the third level. guys not
- 25:14Speaker 1: knowing where to go, guys not knowing what to check to.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Hamlin and Geno both looked very comfortable on tape in
- 25:23Speaker 1: that defense. I mean, Hamlin's calling stuff out pre-snap. Everybody's good.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Hamlin's calling stuff out post-snap. The routes are developing and
- 25:31Speaker 1: in progress, and he's telling Davis and Ibnosun, no, no, no,
- 25:34Speaker 1: this is my guy. You need to go over here
- 25:36Speaker 1: while the play is happening, in the middle of the
- 25:39Speaker 1: play while the route distribution is developing to then get
- 25:42Speaker 1: Ibnosun into play. I know Hamlin isn't sexy. I know
- 25:45Speaker 1: so many people have wanted him out for years. I
- 25:48Speaker 1: don't think he should be a regular starter on a team.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Same thing with Geno Stone, which is why, again, I
- 25:53Speaker 1: think they need to trade for a safety, a starting safety,
- 25:57Speaker 1: a legitimate starter. But you saw a good baseline in
- 26:05Speaker 1: the secondary and from the safety position. with Stone and
- 26:10Speaker 1: Hamlin because they knew their checks. They knew their assignments.
- 26:14Speaker 1: They knew how to relay communication, hand out communication, start stuff,
- 26:18Speaker 1: you know, be a cog in the wheel, everything. They
- 26:20Speaker 1: stabilized the secondary. They definitely helped. And yes, again, third
- 26:24Speaker 1: string quarterback, there were some opportunities there and the quarterback
- 26:27Speaker 1: didn't take advantage of them and the game planning. I
- 26:29Speaker 1: get it. All of it. I understand that doesn't take
- 26:33Speaker 1: away from the route, how them reading the route distributions
- 26:37Speaker 1: and making the play in their assignment. Yes. It, it,
- 26:39Speaker 1: it plays in with, you know, what the quarterback sees
- 26:42Speaker 1: and how we manipulate some guys and throws the quarterbacks
- 26:44Speaker 1: can make. Right. So it definitely plays a role. I'm
- 26:46Speaker 1: not saying it doesn't, but it doesn't negate the positives
- 26:49Speaker 1: that you saw. And this bill's defense communication. I posted
- 26:53Speaker 1: several clips of it. I talked about in the episode
- 26:55Speaker 1: I put out yesterday, man, you just saw calm, poised, relaxed,
- 27:06Speaker 1: agreed upon communication across all the levels. And Hamlin and
- 27:12Speaker 1: Stone were a significant part of that. I think they
- 27:15Speaker 1: raised the floor. I think the ceiling with those guys
- 27:17Speaker 1: is limited, but you're just looking for consistency on the defense.
- 27:20Speaker 1: You're looking for reliability. You're just looking to raise the
- 27:23Speaker 1: floor of the defense. I think Hamlin and Stone do that.
- 27:28Speaker 1: I just think you can also get another safety that
- 27:32Speaker 1: raises the floor and also raises your ceiling while you're
- 27:34Speaker 1: at it. Um, but kudos to Hamlin stone for coming in,
- 27:37Speaker 1: stabilizing things, especially from a deep perspective. Um, you know, again,
- 27:41Speaker 1: stone should have had an interception. He had a gimme.
- 27:43Speaker 1: It led to Davis hitting, but no sin getting a
- 27:44Speaker 1: gift that fell right into his lap. Um, but each
- 27:47Speaker 1: of them made some sound plays in coverage. Um, we
- 27:51Speaker 1: know what each of their weaknesses are. You don't really
- 27:52Speaker 1: want either of them manning up on dudes. We saw
- 27:54Speaker 1: Hamlin man up on Bateman. Uh, one point Bateman got
- 27:58Speaker 1: them kind of turned him around. Um, but he's kind of, you're,
- 28:03Speaker 1: you're living with those guys. Neither of them are plus athletes.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Neither of these guys are going to, are dudes that
- 28:07Speaker 1: are going to man up somebody, even like tight ends
- 28:09Speaker 1: and running backs, let alone wide receivers. Um, but they're smart.
- 28:13Speaker 1: They're responsible. They can get you in the right position.
- 28:16Speaker 1: They can get themselves in the right position. And that
- 28:18Speaker 1: in and of itself is kind of like a low
- 28:19Speaker 1: tier force multiplier. And that's better than the gaps and
- 28:23Speaker 1: the struggles that they've had previously. It takes the mental
- 28:25Speaker 1: load off of Cole Bishop, take some of it off
- 28:28Speaker 1: Terrell Bernard, um, And then also plays into the Chauncey
- 28:32Speaker 1: Gardner Johnson aspect where, yes, you're playing a third string quarterback,
- 28:35Speaker 1: but the defense looks so sound in his absence. And
- 28:38Speaker 1: knowing the distraction he can be and or is coupled
- 28:43Speaker 1: with the spitting stuff, it just made sense to jettison him.
- 28:47Speaker 1: And so I am firmly in the let's trade for
- 28:51Speaker 1: a safety camp. But if they don't, you know, I
- 28:54Speaker 1: think your starters are Cole Bishop and DeMar Hamlin. And
- 28:57Speaker 1: then when they go dime, it'll be Hamlin and Stone Deep.
- 29:00Speaker 1: either in two safety looks, or two safety looks, in
- 29:03Speaker 1: split field safety looks, or even single high, middle field
- 29:06Speaker 1: close stuff, Hamlin or Stone are going to be the
- 29:09Speaker 1: post safety. Cole Bishop is going to be that down
- 29:10Speaker 1: safety more often than not. Yeah, that's the safety conversation.
- 29:17Speaker 1: I want to grab, Charles says, I feel like we
- 29:21Speaker 1: got a bunch of athletes that can play around the box, Bishop, Kilgore, Hancock,
- 29:24Speaker 1: and nobody that's great in the high post. I think
- 29:27Speaker 1: that is a fair comment. Again, it goes back to
- 29:32Speaker 1: Hyde and Poirier. Both of them could do everything. Yeah,
- 29:35Speaker 1: Hyde skewed more towards free safety and Poirier skewed more
- 29:38Speaker 1: towards strong safety or box safety. but both of those
- 29:40Speaker 1: dudes could play in and around the box, in the slot,
- 29:43Speaker 1: single high, split field, cover two stuff, quarters family stuff,
- 29:49Speaker 1: anything that you wanted. They could do that. They could
- 29:51Speaker 1: man up on guys. They could play anywhere you needed
- 29:53Speaker 1: them to do, anything you needed them to do. They
- 29:55Speaker 1: were so interchangeable and so versatile in their skill sets.
- 30:00Speaker 1: and now I feel like the Bills have more saminess
- 30:03Speaker 1: in the safety room and have opted for more traits
- 30:07Speaker 1: and versatility. But yes, I don't think they have that.
- 30:10Speaker 1: I don't think they have the ball hawk in the
- 30:11Speaker 1: safety room. I don't think they have the rangy playmaker.
- 30:14Speaker 1: I don't think they have that guy that, yep, that
- 30:16Speaker 1: dude's going to be our post-safety. Look at the range.
- 30:18Speaker 1: Look how, you know, the angles he takes to the ball.
- 30:20Speaker 1: They don't have that center fielder in the safety room.
- 30:23Speaker 1: And that's why I think, again, if they're going to
- 30:25Speaker 1: make a move at safety, it is for someone more like,
- 30:28Speaker 1: Amani hooker is someone more like campaign. I'm you're looking
- 30:31Speaker 1: for more of that deep coverage based type of player. Um,
- 30:36Speaker 1: and have them be completely siloed. Cause you still need
- 30:38Speaker 1: to come forward and fit the run, but if you're
- 30:40Speaker 1: going to play a ton of single high, anyway, Cole
- 30:42Speaker 1: Bishops are down safety. You got numbers in the box.
- 30:44Speaker 1: You need somebody who can play the post. You need
- 30:46Speaker 1: somebody who can read the game from depth and make
- 30:49Speaker 1: plays from depth. Um, and I think that speaks more
- 30:51Speaker 1: to hooker and Bynum. Um, and plus Bynum can do
- 30:53Speaker 1: a bunch of man coverage stuff too, which I think
- 30:55Speaker 1: is really fun. Um, but yeah, I, I would agree.
- 30:59Speaker 1: in that role or in that comment. Rice says Kilgore
- 31:02Speaker 1: is a day three rookie. Folks need to be patient.
- 31:04Speaker 1: Quinn expecting him to come in and be a starter
- 31:06Speaker 1: right away. I think that's fair, but it's hard when
- 31:08Speaker 1: you have all the beat reporters and their mother all
- 31:10Speaker 1: telling you in training camp, how amazing this guy looked
- 31:14Speaker 1: and how, Oh my God, look at this play. Oh
- 31:15Speaker 1: my God, look at this play. And then it's like, Oh,
- 31:18Speaker 1: he should start. And it's like, Hmm. Maybe that was
- 31:21Speaker 1: a little exaggerated. I mean, That happens every offseason. Last year,
- 31:26Speaker 1: everybody thought that Josh Palmer was going to be a
- 31:28Speaker 1: true wide receiver one, even though he'd never shown that ever.
- 31:32Speaker 1: But hey, to each their own. I want to grab
- 31:34Speaker 1: this comment from Charles, too. Charles says, swing big and
- 31:36Speaker 1: trade a one for Winfield Jr. I would love that,
- 31:39Speaker 1: but he's just not healthy enough consistently. He just misses time.
- 31:46Speaker 1: I've liked him for so long. I mean, there's a
- 31:48Speaker 1: lot of dudes on that Buccaneers defense that I like.
- 31:50Speaker 1: I'd trade for Jacob Parrish in a heartbeat, too. But Yeah,
- 31:54Speaker 1: Winfield I just think isn't healthy enough. He keeps getting
- 31:56Speaker 1: banged up, which is super unfortunate because he's so dynamic.
- 31:59Speaker 1: He's such a good player. But yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 32:04Speaker 1: I like this comment here. It says, also, I know
- 32:08Speaker 1: this is for the secondary, but if the move is
- 32:10Speaker 1: Zach Vaughn and that's it, I'm fine with it. I
- 32:13Speaker 1: would love that. Give me some true linebacker versatility. Give
- 32:16Speaker 1: me somebody who can walk down as the end man
- 32:19Speaker 1: on the line of scrimmage, who can... Fit the run,
- 32:22Speaker 1: play downhill, play some coverage stuff, his own man, some
- 32:25Speaker 1: match stuff. Also has a ton of familiarity with Jim
- 32:28Speaker 1: Leonard's defense. Yeah, I would take Zach Vaughn in a heartbeat.
- 32:32Speaker 1: I would take Zach Vaughn in a heartbeat. I like
- 32:35Speaker 1: this comment too from Amp716 who says, Cole Bishop can
- 32:37Speaker 1: probably be a good spy. I think that's a fair point.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Good comment here from Josh who says, what sucks is
- 32:43Speaker 1: the narrative that the defensive performance means less because of
- 32:46Speaker 1: opposing QBs. We technically won't get a true test until
- 32:49Speaker 1: week 12 based on the schedule. Yeah, you got Minnesota
- 32:51Speaker 1: and then I forget the order. It's either Jets Miami
- 32:53Speaker 1: or Miami Jets. But yeah, got it. But build the confidence.
- 32:58Speaker 1: Work your way up. Let's get the kinks out. Let's
- 33:00Speaker 1: continue to solidify ourselves and then get ready for, again,
- 33:03Speaker 1: not an order, but the Chiefs and the Patriots and
- 33:07Speaker 1: the Packers and the Bears and then hopefully a playoff
- 33:11Speaker 1: run that goes deep into February when I think the
- 33:16Speaker 1: Super Bowl is. I think middle of February is when
- 33:20Speaker 1: it is. Um, but yeah, Charles's Caitlin Bullock would be nice. Um,
- 33:31Speaker 1: TVB 1822 says they should trade him to us. Um, I,
- 33:36Speaker 1: he's just such a poor tackler. I know he's been
- 33:38Speaker 1: better with Texans and I know a lot of his
- 33:40Speaker 1: struggles at USC were because of USC, um, and their
- 33:43Speaker 1: defense and their defensive woes. But, um, he, he is
- 33:46Speaker 1: your prototypical center field safety. Um, His tackling is just
- 33:51Speaker 1: so hit or miss, no pun intended. But I mean,
- 33:56Speaker 1: I would take Kalen Bullock over Hamlin and Stone, for sure.
- 34:00Speaker 1: But his tackling is always going to bother me. I
- 34:05Speaker 1: place a lot of value on safeties that can tackle
- 34:08Speaker 1: from depth and fit the run from depth. And because
- 34:10Speaker 1: he does not, it stresses me the hell out. John
- 34:15Speaker 1: Roberts says, who do you prefer at safety if we trade?
- 34:18Speaker 1: In my heart, Buda Baker. Um, in my head, I'm
- 34:24Speaker 1: still going to go with Cam Bynum. Um, because I
- 34:27Speaker 1: like him more in man coverage stuff and blitzing snares.
- 34:29Speaker 1: I think Cam Bynum has more Jack of all trades
- 34:34Speaker 1: versatility to him from a safety position. Somebody who I
- 34:38Speaker 1: can play in man coverage. I can play single high stuff.
- 34:40Speaker 1: I can play two high stuff. I can blitz him. Um,
- 34:44Speaker 1: I just remember him. So, I mean, he's made, he's
- 34:45Speaker 1: been good for the Colts too, but I remember so
- 34:47Speaker 1: much of what he was doing with the Vikings. Um,
- 34:50Speaker 1: And that stays in my head. And I want more
- 34:52Speaker 1: front foot play. So I would say Cam Bynum won.
- 34:56Speaker 1: I do like Hooker as well. I was watching some
- 34:58Speaker 1: Hooker tape last night. That sounds like a funny sentence. And,
- 35:03Speaker 1: you know, again, he's got range. He can make plays
- 35:04Speaker 1: on the ball too. I would probably say Cam Bynum
- 35:08Speaker 1: is who I prefer. But my heart says Buda Baker.
- 35:10Speaker 1: I just don't think it necessarily makes a lot of sense.
- 35:15Speaker 1: Coco monk says, would a pairing like Cole and Bynum
- 35:18Speaker 1: be a tell, would that diminish the value of doing this?
- 35:21Speaker 1: Not necessarily. Cause Bynum can play down to, and again,
- 35:23Speaker 1: Bishop can play deep, but you're, you're essentially already a
- 35:28Speaker 1: single high team, right? They've been predominantly a cover three team.
- 35:31Speaker 1: They've worked in more cover one. They want to, Jim
- 35:34Speaker 1: Leonard wants to be a single high team. He wants
- 35:36Speaker 1: to play cover three and cover one, you know, and
- 35:39Speaker 1: some match coverage stuff within that. And then he'll work
- 35:41Speaker 1: in some too high stuff. Um, But no, I don't
- 35:43Speaker 1: think it's necessarily a tell because even if everybody knows
- 35:47Speaker 1: Bynum is going to be in the post and Bishop
- 35:48Speaker 1: is going to be down in the box, that's still
- 35:51Speaker 1: kind of where they're living in terms of this world now,
- 35:56Speaker 1: in terms of where they want to be. But that, again,
- 35:59Speaker 1: that doesn't preclude you from getting into too high looks
- 36:04Speaker 1: or using that against opponents who think like, oh, well,
- 36:06Speaker 1: Cole Bishop's down in the box. He's going to be
- 36:08Speaker 1: a box safety. That's where he's going to be. and
- 36:10Speaker 1: then all of a sudden you spin him back to
- 36:11Speaker 1: the post or you spin him back and you just
- 36:15Speaker 1: run a too high coverage type of deal. Just from
- 36:20Speaker 1: the numbers this year, 2026, Cole Bishop, as I wait
- 36:29Speaker 1: for them to load, 251 snaps in the box, 76
- 36:32Speaker 1: snaps in the slot. 131 as like a quote unquote
- 36:40Speaker 1: deep safety. So essentially 327, you know, monster man type snaps.
- 36:48Speaker 1: That's what I'm going to call them. Apex player type
- 36:50Speaker 1: snaps between the box and the slot. Again, 251 in
- 36:52Speaker 1: the box, 76 in the slot. And then up versus
- 36:55Speaker 1: 131 from a free safety standpoint, like, or a deep
- 36:59Speaker 1: safety standpoint. So more than double. And that free safety,
- 37:02Speaker 1: that deep safety aspect includes both single high and two
- 37:05Speaker 1: high stuff. So more than half of his snaps, you know,
- 37:09Speaker 1: easily have been as more of a down safety. So
- 37:12Speaker 1: it's already, it's already there. Like getting more of a
- 37:16Speaker 1: range-based safety, like Cam Bynum, for instance, isn't necessarily hindering
- 37:23Speaker 1: anything or siloing you or giving more of a tell
- 37:26Speaker 1: than what you're already giving. I don't think the ratio
- 37:28Speaker 1: would change much. You just get a better safety than
- 37:31Speaker 1: you already have. um, to pair with Bishop. And it's
- 37:35Speaker 1: also a dude who can play man coverage. You can
- 37:36Speaker 1: do more of that cover zero stuff that they were
- 37:38Speaker 1: doing against the Ravens, which I really, really, really like. Um,
- 37:41Speaker 1: I've talked about on social for years. I think I've
- 37:43Speaker 1: even talked about on the show, like that glitch blitz
- 37:44Speaker 1: where you're playing cover zero and you drop two interior
- 37:51Speaker 1: defensive linemen out, you know, you show pressure across the board,
- 37:53Speaker 1: drop two guys out into the seams or into the
- 37:56Speaker 1: low hole playing eyes on the QB, um, moving with
- 37:59Speaker 1: him or feeling for routes and looking for routes, trying
- 38:01Speaker 1: to drop into certain spots in the hook curls. You
- 38:03Speaker 1: can do a multitude of things with them. Um, you
- 38:06Speaker 1: can set a drop in the interior defensive lineman. You
- 38:08Speaker 1: can drop the edges like the bills did later. I
- 38:10Speaker 1: think buying it would be great in that. Cause he's
- 38:11Speaker 1: a good man coverage safety. Adrian says what's going to
- 38:15Speaker 1: happen to D all for that brings me to my,
- 38:18Speaker 1: my next point. Um, I like the offer. Yeah, I,
- 38:27Speaker 1: he's fine. I, I don't mean to say that disparagingly,
- 38:31Speaker 1: but he's fine. Corey Couch had himself a day against
- 38:37Speaker 1: the Ravens. Just good spatial awareness, reading route distributions, good
- 38:43Speaker 1: leverage in man coverage, physical hand usage. This is a
- 38:48Speaker 1: guy who, as you know, or if you can't tell
- 38:51Speaker 1: by the jersey that I'm wearing, I am a Miami
- 38:54Speaker 1: Hurricanes fan. I have, sometimes begrudgingly, watched every single Miami
- 38:59Speaker 1: hurricanes game for as long as I can remember. Um,
- 39:04Speaker 1: and then I've watched a bunch of tape on Miami
- 39:06Speaker 1: as well as, you know, in doing college, you know,
- 39:09Speaker 1: evaluations and building draft boards and all that. Um, so
- 39:13Speaker 1: I've seen a lot of to Corey couch. It was
- 39:16Speaker 1: awesome to see him, you know, play at the level
- 39:18Speaker 1: that he did against the Ravens. I feel like the
- 39:21Speaker 1: conversation between him and Alford, right. Takori Couch is more
- 39:24Speaker 1: in the mold of a Taron Johnson. He's more of
- 39:28Speaker 1: a nickel that is a physical force than he is
- 39:34Speaker 1: a coverage player. Dee Alford is more of a coverage
- 39:36Speaker 1: player nickel. Dee Alford is more of a traditional nickel,
- 39:40Speaker 1: like what a nickel was when nickel was a true
- 39:43Speaker 1: sub package. He's coming in there to be a coverage player.
- 39:46Speaker 1: This isn't necessarily somebody who, is going to fit the
- 39:50Speaker 1: run and take on a pulling guard and mash a
- 39:54Speaker 1: tight end, or even somebody you want to blitz a ton.
- 39:57Speaker 1: D Alford is a nickel corners, nickel type of nickel, right?
- 40:00Speaker 1: He is a coverage first guy. Doesn't mean he can't
- 40:03Speaker 1: be physical. It doesn't mean he's soft. Doesn't mean, you know, he's,
- 40:05Speaker 1: he's frail or anything like that, but he is more
- 40:08Speaker 1: coverage than he is downhill to Corey couch is more
- 40:11Speaker 1: downhill than he is coverage. Um, you know, he, he
- 40:16Speaker 1: played a bunch of man at Miami, uh, But the athleticism,
- 40:20Speaker 1: you know, he doesn't have the quickest feet. He doesn't
- 40:23Speaker 1: have a ton of athleticism. This isn't some dude who's
- 40:25Speaker 1: juiced up and is like, wow, look how smooth of
- 40:29Speaker 1: a mover he is. Look how explosive he is. Look
- 40:31Speaker 1: at the size, the length, the frame. It's really none
- 40:34Speaker 1: of that. But he battles, he grinds. This phrase is
- 40:38Speaker 1: overused too, too, too, too much now. But Takori Couch
- 40:43Speaker 1: is a dog. He wants to get his hands on you. Like,
- 40:45Speaker 1: he wants to reroute you. He wants to jam you. receivers,
- 40:48Speaker 1: and tight ends. He wants to attach to them and
- 40:51Speaker 1: ride them, you know, as he carries them and delivers
- 40:54Speaker 1: them to another coverage player. He has a good feel
- 40:56Speaker 1: for space. He has a good feel for leverage. He's
- 40:58Speaker 1: a good tackler. He's a good blitzer. You can play
- 41:01Speaker 1: him in zone. You can play him in man. You
- 41:03Speaker 1: saw a lot of successful reps from him in a
- 41:05Speaker 1: multitude of coverage responsibilities against the Ravens. I think what
- 41:09Speaker 1: was really encouraging was the routes where he was against
- 41:12Speaker 1: Zay Flowers. And some of them, you know, were cover one,
- 41:16Speaker 1: so he knew where his help was. Um, but there
- 41:20Speaker 1: was a cover zero rep in the low red zone
- 41:22Speaker 1: and he turns and opens and he runs with Zay
- 41:25Speaker 1: and Zay flowers can fly, man. One of the fastest
- 41:27Speaker 1: dudes in football and to Corey stays with him. He
- 41:31Speaker 1: stayed with Zay on some overs on some deep overs
- 41:34Speaker 1: on some drags where he's like him. Just even being
- 41:37Speaker 1: in the picture is a win, but he's staying close
- 41:40Speaker 1: and he's playing with leverage and he's doing it in man.
- 41:42Speaker 1: He's spacing zone. He's spacing routes in zone. He's matching
- 41:46Speaker 1: and playing match coverage stuff. And it was just a
- 41:50Speaker 1: really sound game from him. Wasn't the sexiest, right? I
- 41:56Speaker 1: think like the biggest play he makes is where he
- 42:00Speaker 1: makes that tackle. I think on Mark Andrews where they
- 42:02Speaker 1: spit it out to Andrews in the flat and he
- 42:03Speaker 1: closes down. He's a seam flat player on that play.
- 42:06Speaker 1: He closes down, form tackle, chest on knee, wraps up.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Andrews drops him sideline. I think it was a second
- 42:13Speaker 1: and three play. He stops him for essentially no gain
- 42:15Speaker 1: or a loss, and it's a third and three, right?
- 42:17Speaker 1: But it wasn't like, wow, he had these pass breakups.
- 42:19Speaker 1: He had this interception. He had this sack. And see,
- 42:24Speaker 1: this is a funny juxtaposition. I didn't even think about
- 42:27Speaker 1: it until now, and I feel stupid saying that. I
- 42:29Speaker 1: talked earlier in the safety room, right? Cole Bishop is
- 42:32Speaker 1: more traits than football player. Jalen Kilgore is more traits
- 42:35Speaker 1: than football player. Ja'Cory Couch is more football player than traits.
- 42:39Speaker 1: He's just a football player. A little bit of safety versatility.
- 42:42Speaker 1: They worked him at safety and camping in the preseason
- 42:45Speaker 1: a little bit. But dude can hit. Dude wants to hit.
- 42:48Speaker 1: You can blitz him. You can put him in press.
- 42:51Speaker 1: He wants to play physical. I think he's a fit
- 42:53Speaker 1: for Jim Leonard's defense because, as we've talked about in
- 42:56Speaker 1: the show leading up, what do the Bills need to
- 42:59Speaker 1: do more of? Man coverage, press, blitz, attack, creativity, all
- 43:04Speaker 1: this type of stuff, schematic variance. That's a dude that
- 43:07Speaker 1: you can lean into. Not that you can't with Alford.
- 43:11Speaker 1: I personally, again, you could say I'm biased because I'm
- 43:13Speaker 1: a Miami guy. Maybe I am a little bit here
- 43:15Speaker 1: in this instance. Um, Alford is a fine player, more
- 43:19Speaker 1: coverage than he is coming forward to Corey couch looked
- 43:23Speaker 1: really good in a multitude of responsibilities, man and zone.
- 43:26Speaker 1: And several of those man reps came against one of
- 43:28Speaker 1: the fastest receivers in the league and one of the
- 43:30Speaker 1: best receivers in the league. And he held his own,
- 43:32Speaker 1: which was awesome to see. I also think what's huge
- 43:34Speaker 1: to Corey couch in this game. him giving communication there's
- 43:40Speaker 1: there's one rep where Terrell Bernard looks to him and
- 43:42Speaker 1: he gives the communication to Bernard Bernard has put his
- 43:45Speaker 1: hands up like what are we doing and couch gives
- 43:47Speaker 1: him the call and then couch looks to Benford and
- 43:49Speaker 1: gives Benford the call like couch Hamlin and stone solidified
- 43:56Speaker 1: like the mental side of the Bills defense and coverage
- 43:59Speaker 1: in this game yes grain of salt the quarterback they
- 44:01Speaker 1: were playing all that please don't yell at me watching
- 44:05Speaker 1: him stabilized things. He's coming up, you know, Ravens are
- 44:09Speaker 1: switching from a 3x1 to a 2x2 and vice versa.
- 44:12Speaker 1: He's coming in with the hand signal. He's relaying or
- 44:15Speaker 1: giving direction to Igbenosin, to the safeties, to the backers. Like,
- 44:19Speaker 1: Takori Couch had a really good game, and I don't
- 44:21Speaker 1: even think we saw, like, the full potential of what
- 44:22Speaker 1: he can do. Because, again, he's a good blitzer. He's
- 44:24Speaker 1: a violent player. I'm interested to see what happens at nickel. Again,
- 44:32Speaker 1: Alford is more of coverage nickel cory couch is more
- 44:39Speaker 1: of like a come forward type of nickel alfred can
- 44:42Speaker 1: come forward a little bit couch can play coverage a
- 44:46Speaker 1: bit and just that that level that he played with
- 44:49Speaker 1: against the ravens i i was uh very pleased with
- 44:52Speaker 1: sorry get the camera back in focus i was very
- 44:53Speaker 1: pleased with and honestly kind of surprised because again he
- 44:55Speaker 1: doesn't um it's tough to not have Some semblance of
- 45:01Speaker 1: like an athletic profile or some physical profile in some way.
- 45:05Speaker 1: But every once in a while, you just get dudes
- 45:06Speaker 1: that are good football players and sound in a multitude
- 45:09Speaker 1: of ways. And he showed that. It'll be really interesting
- 45:13Speaker 1: to see what happens with the nickel room going forward.
- 45:15Speaker 1: They paid off for it a little bit of money.
- 45:17Speaker 1: I do think he is a better coverage player. maybe
- 45:21Speaker 1: Taquari couch was a better all around player. Taquari couch
- 45:24Speaker 1: can also play some safety for you. So maybe that
- 45:26Speaker 1: leans into the versatility and kind of what you want
- 45:28Speaker 1: to do. But if you want to lean into that
- 45:30Speaker 1: physicality aspect and Hey, we're going to challenge wide receivers.
- 45:34Speaker 1: We're going to beat them up, right? We're going to press,
- 45:37Speaker 1: we're going to reroute. We're going to jam. We're going
- 45:39Speaker 1: to get into their hip pocket. We're going to throw
- 45:41Speaker 1: them around. We're going to chuck them around again, just
- 45:43Speaker 1: beat them up. And then also like play the run,
- 45:45Speaker 1: come forward, mash guys in other ways as we come forward.
- 45:49Speaker 1: Takori Couch ticks a lot of those boxes. Again, though,
- 45:52Speaker 1: you will see at some point he will get gotten coverage.
- 45:54Speaker 1: There are some times where that athletic profile is just
- 45:57Speaker 1: going to kind of catch up to him. But I
- 45:58Speaker 1: am interested to see what happens at the nickel spot.
- 46:03Speaker 1: And again, especially with this dime look, maybe you get
- 46:06Speaker 1: really creative if it's Couch and Hamlin and Stone and Bishop,
- 46:10Speaker 1: or if they trade for a safety to replace Hamlin
- 46:12Speaker 1: or Stone. And then it's like, well, Bishop's like it.
- 46:16Speaker 1: in the slop, but he can also play deep and
- 46:18Speaker 1: maybe to Corey couch can play a little deep too.
- 46:20Speaker 1: And then you got the safeties, like who's going where,
- 46:22Speaker 1: who's doing what, maybe there's some schematic versatility on the menu.
- 46:26Speaker 1: If everybody starts to get more confident and comfortable in
- 46:28Speaker 1: themselves and maybe Leonard starts wheeling and dealing and calling
- 46:30Speaker 1: some things a little bit. Um, but yeah, to Corey
- 46:33Speaker 1: couch had a really great game. I thought of just
- 46:36Speaker 1: doing a, I thought of just doing a film episode
- 46:38Speaker 1: on to Corey couch, uh, tonight. Um, just because, again,
- 46:42Speaker 1: he's somebody who I've liked for several years, going back
- 46:45Speaker 1: to his time in Miami. He's just, he's kind of like,
- 46:50Speaker 1: not to this level, but if you watch Miami this
- 46:53Speaker 1: past year or knew the draft coming into this year,
- 46:56Speaker 1: he was like Keontae Scott before Keontae Scott. Kind of like,
- 47:01Speaker 1: Keontae Scott was like a souped up to Corey Couch.
- 47:03Speaker 1: This slot that was like blitzing and physical and violent.
- 47:08Speaker 1: and rerouting guys and jamming dudes and mashing against anybody
- 47:12Speaker 1: he could. That's what to Corey couch was. So that
- 47:15Speaker 1: Keontae Scott was like a souped up to Corey couch
- 47:18Speaker 1: in 2025 for Miami. So it's funny that that's kind
- 47:23Speaker 1: of like worked out the way it is. And so
- 47:25Speaker 1: we'll see what happens there. We'll see how healthy Alford
- 47:27Speaker 1: can get. Again, he's still a fine player, more of
- 47:31Speaker 1: a true Nichols type of nickel, you know, the nickel
- 47:33Speaker 1: that you would see in the nineties and two thousands
- 47:35Speaker 1: when nickel was actually like a sub package, right? Smaller,
- 47:37Speaker 1: Type of dude, you put him out there, he's just
- 47:39Speaker 1: going to live in the slot. He doesn't really have
- 47:40Speaker 1: to play the run. He's just playing coverage. So we'll see.
- 47:44Speaker 1: I'm very interested to see kind of what happens in
- 47:46Speaker 1: that regard. William says, does Leonard like Couchmore because he's
- 47:52Speaker 1: in undrafted safety? I don't know. He might maybe skew
- 47:54Speaker 1: towards those undrafted dudes. Adrian says, I feel like DeAlford
- 47:58Speaker 1: has been struggling a little in coverage for a player
- 48:00Speaker 1: that focuses on coverage. Sorry. Tired. Yawn. Takori Couch fits
- 48:04Speaker 1: more of the corner that Jim Leonard wants. I also
- 48:09Speaker 1: don't know how much of the Alford struggles were due
- 48:11Speaker 1: to him being banged up and injured. But yeah, I
- 48:15Speaker 1: think there's... See, here's where we get into the weeds
- 48:21Speaker 1: of the conversation and things, right? I do think Takori
- 48:25Speaker 1: Couch fits several things that Jim Leonard wants. But... especially
- 48:34Speaker 1: in this instance and i'm not like picking at your
- 48:37Speaker 1: comment but if couch fits more of what jim leonard
- 48:41Speaker 1: wants why did they sign d alford that opens up
- 48:45Speaker 1: a whole can of worms like pandora's box so then
- 48:47Speaker 1: like did jim leonard want d alford did he not
- 48:50Speaker 1: want d alford was that a brandon bean move is
- 48:52Speaker 1: brandon bean not giving jim leonard what he wants like
- 48:55Speaker 1: where if we open that door It leads us into
- 48:59Speaker 1: a whole bunch of rooms that we're never going to
- 49:00Speaker 1: get out of because we're going to be spinning our
- 49:02Speaker 1: tires in the conversation. So I prefer not to think
- 49:04Speaker 1: about that. I would assume Jim Leonard has some input.
- 49:10Speaker 1: I think Alford represented and represents the higher floor from
- 49:17Speaker 1: a coverage standpoint. Again, I think to Corey couch played
- 49:19Speaker 1: really good against the Ravens. I think even me, somebody
- 49:24Speaker 1: who's watched him for years, going back to his days
- 49:26Speaker 1: in Miami, how well he played. Even I was like, Oh, like, wow.
- 49:31Speaker 1: Like there were some times where I'm like, okay, he's
- 49:33Speaker 1: going to battle. He's going to mash. I'm excited to
- 49:34Speaker 1: see what he can do. Um, Let's just kind of
- 49:37Speaker 1: see what happens. But there were times on tape where
- 49:39Speaker 1: I was like, wow, I didn't think you would be
- 49:40Speaker 1: able to do that. Oh, I didn't think you'd be
- 49:42Speaker 1: able to do that. Granted, he's been in the NFL
- 49:44Speaker 1: for several years now at this point. He's mainly a
- 49:46Speaker 1: practice squad guy. But, yeah, it is interesting when you
- 49:50Speaker 1: start to think of the vision Jim Leonard wants. Again,
- 49:52Speaker 1: I– this is another door I don't want to open.
- 49:55Speaker 1: But the Alford signing, so much of everything in the
- 50:00Speaker 1: offseason for me continues to add up to like they
- 50:04Speaker 1: didn't really get guys that I– thought made a ton
- 50:07Speaker 1: of sense for the defense and not that they could,
- 50:09Speaker 1: because again, they were hamstrung by financial restrictions. They didn't
- 50:12Speaker 1: have a lot of financial resources, draft capital resources, but
- 50:15Speaker 1: they did acquire more draft capital and they still didn't
- 50:17Speaker 1: really get to address those guys. But yeah, it's from
- 50:21Speaker 1: a roster standpoint, it doesn't really feel like a Jim
- 50:23Speaker 1: Leonard defense hasn't really felt that way schematically either, though
- 50:25Speaker 1: we did see obviously more of a schematic feel in
- 50:27Speaker 1: this past game. I think this is somewhat of a
- 50:29Speaker 1: fair comment and yeah, answering it opens up pandora's box
- 50:36Speaker 1: and a whole bunch of doors that we could probably
- 50:38Speaker 1: do like a two-hour episode on but this is a
- 50:39Speaker 1: fair comment roy says i see some fans want another
- 50:43Speaker 1: cb i think we're fine and safety is a bigger
- 50:45Speaker 1: need what are your thoughts on the cb room i
- 50:48Speaker 1: so i was gonna move to corner next thank you
- 50:51Speaker 1: for asking your question this is a good segue christian
- 50:54Speaker 1: benford like him um I don't think he's a top
- 50:58Speaker 1: 10 corner in the NFL as so many people wanted
- 51:02Speaker 1: to yell at me here on the show last year.
- 51:05Speaker 1: I think the year at before two people coming in
- 51:08Speaker 1: the comments on YouTube episodes saying Joe Marino thinks Christian
- 51:11Speaker 1: Benford's a top 10 corner, but you don't yada. I
- 51:13Speaker 1: got yelled at so many times. I think Christian Benford
- 51:15Speaker 1: is a CB one. I think he's more of a
- 51:17Speaker 1: low tier to a mid tier CB one. Um, but
- 51:20Speaker 1: he's looked good. He had a couple of really good
- 51:21Speaker 1: reps against a flowers, uh, and everybody, I mean, his
- 51:24Speaker 1: ability to just play as that boundary corner, um, and
- 51:28Speaker 1: playing isolation situations is so helpful for the Bills defense.
- 51:32Speaker 1: But then even in the Ravens game, kind of like
- 51:35Speaker 1: against the Raiders too, they're moving them around in some
- 51:37Speaker 1: of that man coverage stuff. He covered Zay Flowers when
- 51:40Speaker 1: Zay Flowers was the number three to the trip side,
- 51:42Speaker 1: and he got impressed against them and smothered him. I
- 51:46Speaker 1: like Christian Benford. I'm very, I don't know the right word.
- 51:55Speaker 1: I'm very, I was going to say wary, and I
- 51:57Speaker 1: think I'm going to stay with that. I'm very wary
- 52:00Speaker 1: of the CB2 spot. I didn't love the Harrison pick
- 52:06Speaker 1: when he was the pick. Those of you who watch
- 52:09Speaker 1: the show or follow me on social may remember how
- 52:11Speaker 1: much I loved Trey Amos, who went to Amos Amos.
- 52:15Speaker 1: I've heard it multiple ways from multiple people. He fell
- 52:19Speaker 1: to the Washington Commanders mainly, not even mainly, because of
- 52:24Speaker 1: I think it was a knee injury that was discovered
- 52:26Speaker 1: during the draft process and it scared teams away and
- 52:29Speaker 1: shied teams away. And so he fell to the commanders.
- 52:32Speaker 1: He unfortunately is at injury concerns as a rookie last year.
- 52:35Speaker 1: And then this year a little bit, but he also
- 52:37Speaker 1: makes some good plays. I think he's a good corner.
- 52:40Speaker 1: I was wary on the Hairston pick. I thought his
- 52:43Speaker 1: tackling was very all over the place. He was a
- 52:47Speaker 1: willing tackler, but his technique wasn't there. The size and
- 52:49Speaker 1: the frame didn't lend itself to him being a good tackler.
- 52:51Speaker 1: So his technique was always going to be perfect. And then,
- 52:55Speaker 1: despite the fact that he's a fast guy, and when
- 52:58Speaker 1: you wanted somebody all, you wanted a number two corner
- 53:01Speaker 1: who could play man, he wasn't really a man corner
- 53:03Speaker 1: at Kentucky. He was more of an off-zone type of
- 53:06Speaker 1: corner who could close down on stuff really well because
- 53:09Speaker 1: he's really fast and has great feet and a quick trigger.
- 53:16Speaker 1: I think Hairston's, like, fine. I don't like him as, like, okay,
- 53:22Speaker 1: he's my CB2, I feel good. I also don't feel
- 53:24Speaker 1: that way about Davidson Igbenosin. I feel better about Igbenosin
- 53:28Speaker 1: than I do Hairston. If I had to start one
- 53:31Speaker 1: right now, I would start Igbenosin. I just think he's
- 53:37Speaker 1: the more sound tackler. I can trust him against screens
- 53:40Speaker 1: or on the edge if the run gets out. I
- 53:43Speaker 1: also want to play more press and do more rerouting
- 53:47Speaker 1: and physicality and disruption between quarterbacks, timing with their wide
- 53:51Speaker 1: receivers and mess up route distributions. So based on the
- 53:54Speaker 1: type of defense that I think Leonard wants to play
- 53:56Speaker 1: and based on the type of defense that I want
- 53:58Speaker 1: Leonard to play and that I like myself, I'm fine
- 54:02Speaker 1: with IGB. He's going to get flagged at times because
- 54:06Speaker 1: of how grabby he is and how handsy he is,
- 54:08Speaker 1: but I'll take the physical violent guy over Hairston at
- 54:14Speaker 1: this point. And just, I'm just going to put IGB
- 54:18Speaker 1: and Benford and press all the time and battle and
- 54:20Speaker 1: beat dudes up. And, that's going to be the recipe.
- 54:22Speaker 1: I think what they need to do going forward, you
- 54:24Speaker 1: can't play press all the time. Um, but I think
- 54:27Speaker 1: that's what you do. You play press, you beat up
- 54:29Speaker 1: wide receivers, you make them work to get open. You
- 54:33Speaker 1: challenge them left and right, beat them up, get up.
- 54:36Speaker 1: Let's play press. Let's jam. Let's play press. Let's not jam.
- 54:40Speaker 1: Let's play press and then bail. Let's play some games,
- 54:43Speaker 1: but let's get up, get physical reroute violent. Um, let's
- 54:47Speaker 1: disrupt some timing. Um, I think Harrison is a fine
- 54:50Speaker 1: CB three right now. It's less than ideal that your
- 54:54Speaker 1: first round pick from a year ago. As of right now,
- 54:58Speaker 1: it looks like kind of a, a wasted pick. I
- 55:01Speaker 1: hate saying that like a second year into a guy's
- 55:03Speaker 1: second year, especially with Harrison, essentially still being a rookie
- 55:06Speaker 1: because how much time you missed last year. But the
- 55:08Speaker 1: Harrison pick is not looking so hot right now. Eggman knows.
- 55:12Speaker 1: And I still think it is wait and see. I've
- 55:17Speaker 1: liked some of the things he's done. I haven't liked
- 55:19Speaker 1: some of the things that he's done. I thought the
- 55:21Speaker 1: second round was early for him as a pick. I
- 55:24Speaker 1: had more of a third, fourth on him. Um, I'm
- 55:26Speaker 1: still worried about the grabbiness, but I'm fine with IGB.
- 55:31Speaker 1: I see the notion of fans wanting another corner. I
- 55:36Speaker 1: do think that would be sick. Cause again, I Christian Benford,
- 55:38Speaker 1: I think is a very good corner. Christian Benford is
- 55:40Speaker 1: a CB one. Like even if he's a low tier
- 55:42Speaker 1: CB one, he's a, he's a CB one. Christian Benford
- 55:44Speaker 1: is a good football player. Um, So imagine if you
- 55:48Speaker 1: had like another Christian Benford or, I mean, this was,
- 55:53Speaker 1: this was hard. It wouldn't happen, but like, imagine, imagine
- 55:55Speaker 1: if you got a corner that was better than Christian
- 55:57Speaker 1: Benford and Christian Benford was your two. Like I get
- 56:00Speaker 1: that notion that helps your safeties because now you've got
- 56:03Speaker 1: two corners on the outside and it's like, Hey, guess what?
- 56:05Speaker 1: Good luck beating corner one. And then Christian Benford is
- 56:09Speaker 1: corner two or two Benford's. So I can see that
- 56:12Speaker 1: notion of fans kind of want another corner and solidifying things.
- 56:15Speaker 1: But I think, And I hate doing the sunk cost
- 56:20Speaker 1: fallacy thing, but I hate the idea of adding another
- 56:25Speaker 1: corner and spending resources on one after you took a
- 56:28Speaker 1: corner in round one two years ago and then took
- 56:30Speaker 1: Igbenosin in round two this year. That's a lot of
- 56:36Speaker 1: draft capital and even some financial capital that goes along
- 56:41Speaker 1: with it. But I get that notion of upgrading the
- 56:44Speaker 1: CB room. But I think all things considered, I'll put
- 56:48Speaker 1: it to you like this. I feel better about Igbenosin
- 56:54Speaker 1: as the starting CB2 than I do about DeMar Hamlin
- 56:58Speaker 1: or Geno Stone being the starting safety one opposite of
- 57:02Speaker 1: Cole Bishop. So for me, you got to get a safety.
- 57:05Speaker 1: I think safety is the bigger need. I will take
- 57:07Speaker 1: Igbenosin at CB2 more than I will take Hamlin or
- 57:10Speaker 1: Geno Stone being a starter. Yeah. But I think that
- 57:17Speaker 1: the CB room is interesting. Where, who has something? Adrian said,
- 57:22Speaker 1: isn't Moss from the Broncos a similar player to IGB?
- 57:26Speaker 1: Not from a size standpoint. I actually, overall, I wouldn't
- 57:31Speaker 1: say so. I think Riley Moss is more, Riley Moss
- 57:36Speaker 1: has some dog to him, similar to kind of how
- 57:38Speaker 1: IGB does. But I think Riley Moss is much more
- 57:41Speaker 1: technical and fluid of an athlete. How he plays routes,
- 57:45Speaker 1: I think he has better change of direction as well.
- 57:47Speaker 1: Igbenosin is more long speed length in his legs and
- 57:51Speaker 1: his arms. I think Riley Moss is proportioned differently. So
- 57:54Speaker 1: the body shapes are different. The frame is different. Um,
- 57:58Speaker 1: I think Riley Moss has better plays on the ball,
- 58:01Speaker 1: maybe even a little more athleticism at the catch point. Um, I, I,
- 58:05Speaker 1: I think, I think they're more different than they are
- 58:07Speaker 1: the same. A IGB is more of your prototypical, uh,
- 58:13Speaker 1: Brandon Browner type corner from the Seahawks in the Legion
- 58:16Speaker 1: of Boom days. Long corner, play press, get up, jam dudes,
- 58:21Speaker 1: beat the hell out of them. I think Riley Moss
- 58:22Speaker 1: is more, a little more fluid, a little more athletic,
- 58:25Speaker 1: plays on the ball, more technical. Can play press, can
- 58:28Speaker 1: play some man, can play zone, can play match. I
- 58:32Speaker 1: think they're more different than they are the same. Slim
- 58:37Speaker 1: says Bean should just stop drafting corners in the first
- 58:39Speaker 1: two rounds forever. I kind of don't think that's crazy.
- 58:42Speaker 1: I don't think that's crazy. Kent says it's mandatory that
- 58:45Speaker 1: Bean gets a long-term safety. I agree. There's a world where,
- 58:51Speaker 1: and again, trades are hard. It takes two to dance
- 58:53Speaker 1: and all that stuff. There's a world where the Bills
- 58:57Speaker 1: don't do anything at the deadline at safety, and they
- 59:00Speaker 1: play the rest of the year with Hamlin, Stone, and Bishop.
- 59:05Speaker 1: And there's a world where Bishop's play continues to ebb
- 59:07Speaker 1: and flow and rollercoaster. And the Bills go into the
- 59:11Speaker 1: offseason needing two safeties. I don't love that. So yeah, I...
- 59:21Speaker 1: Cole Bishop could be fine. You could also need a
- 59:24Speaker 1: new safety other than Cole Bishop in the offseason. So again,
- 59:27Speaker 1: that's part of why I think safety is such a
- 59:29Speaker 1: Such a need. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, I
- 59:37Speaker 1: disagree with this. TBB says Moss isn't that athletic, and
- 59:39Speaker 1: him and IGB grab a lot. Moss is all right.
- 59:42Speaker 1: Riley Moss gets targeted a ton because he plays opposite
- 59:46Speaker 1: of Pat Sertan, and Riley Moss holds his own. Yes,
- 59:49Speaker 1: he gets dunked on from time to time, and part
- 59:51Speaker 1: of that is the sheer volume of stuff that goes
- 59:54Speaker 1: his way. Riley Moss is a good corner. Riley Moss
- 59:58Speaker 1: is legit CB2. Um, we don't know if IGB is
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: or not yet, but I, um, I think you're, I
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: think you're selling Riley Moss a little bit short. Um,
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: and again, he gets a ton of work because people
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: don't want to throw a pat. They're going to throw it.
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: Riley Moss. Um, but he, right. Riley Moss is a
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: good player. Riley Moss is a good player. Um, where was, yeah,
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: that comment from Kent. Yeah. I think safety in this
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: goes even to Roy's comment as well. I think safety
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: is the bigger need long-term and even short-term. I think
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: you need a upgraded safety for 2026. Um, And I
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: think there's a scenario where you need two new safeties
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: in 2027. So let's lock one down and Hey, let's
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: lock one down. Now make ourselves better. I didn't say
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: he was an athletic for, I don't think I did
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: that at all. But you were making it seem like
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: he's an athletic freak. I don't think I said that.
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: I said, I think he's more athletic and smoother and
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: fluid than IGB. As I said, IGB is more straight
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: line speed. Okay, I disagree. I don't think I overhyped him.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: I said he's a good player and a legit CB2.
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: I did not make him seem like he's an athletic freak.
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: I don't think I said athletic freak at all. I
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: just said he's, I compared him to IGB. I think
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: he's smoother and more fluid and more technically sound. I
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: don't think I said he was an athletic freak and
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: I don't think I overhyped him. But yeah, he's a
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: good CB2. That's what I said. I said he's a
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: good CB2. He's a legit CB2. We don't know if
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: IGB is that as of right now. He could be,
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: I mean, IGB could even turn into a CB one.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: We have no idea at this point, the sample size
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: isn't there. Um, yeah, I think safety is the bigger need.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: Cole Bishop could end up rounding into form and being
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: the Prince that was promised at safety. And then cool. Now,
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: next year you've got whatever safety you traded for and
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: Cole Bishop, and you don't have to worry about that spot. Um, yeah. Right.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: Says there's a world where being convinced is Levi Wallace
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: to come out of retirement, to shore up the CV room.
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: And then he says, LOL, with a bunch of laughing emojis.
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: That's not even remotely funny, but fair point. Um, Yeah,
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: I think safety is the bigger need. You know, I think.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: I hope Cole Bishop will end up being fine. But yeah,
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: I think safety is the bigger need. But I don't
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: think I don't think I don't think people wanting, you know,
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: an upgraded corner is necessarily a crazy notion. But I
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: would say safety is the bigger need. I would say
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: safety and. I think linebacker. I'd love an upgrade at linebacker,
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: but I think safety is the biggest of all of it.
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: I'm more comfortable with Bernard and Dorian, even though I
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: don't love either. I'm more comfortable with Bernard and Dorian
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: than I am Hamlin and Stone. Josh says, uh, yo, Ant,
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: if Bean were to make a move, do you have
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: a hunch or something as to when that would be
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: in the next week? You know, it's funny, as I
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: was talking about this earlier today with Kendall Murski, routine
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: guest of the show and friend of mine. The trade
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: deadline is next Tuesday. The Bills play Monday night. I
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: feel like you'd have to make them waiting until you finish.
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: And I'm not saying you're saying this, but I'm just
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: talking this out loud. Waiting until you finish your game
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: Monday to make a move gives you such a small window.
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: You literally only have Tuesday, and then you're kind of
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: at the mercy of the market and the seller more
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: so than you already are at the trade deadline. All
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: the other teams play Sunday, and so they get all
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: day Monday. I feel like if Bean is going to
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: make a move or if the Bills are going to
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: make a move, I think it has to come before
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: the Minnesota game. It has to come before Monday. I
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: shouldn't say it has to. I feel like it should.
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: It's harder in that small window. You play Monday night
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: against Minnesota, and then you've got to get a deal
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: in by Tuesday at 4 p.m. That's a small window. Again,
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: maybe there's not a lot of action, so there's a
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: lot of teams in there, but it creates more of
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: a seller's market. I think it drives prices up. I
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: would prefer... them to get a deal done this week
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: and before their game against Minnesota. Cause I think once
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: you play Minnesota, maybe something happens and your hand is
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: forced and the teams know your hand is forced. So
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: now teams that were like, Oh yeah, we'll give you
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: this guy for a fourth. Now they're like, well, we
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: want them for a third because we know you're desperate. Um,
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: I think it would happen. I would like it to
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: happen before the Minnesota game, just because I think logistically
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: you make that window small after Monday night and before
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: that Tuesday, four o'clock deadline, it gets wonky. It gets wonky.
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: It gets wonky. Um, Well, that's fair on your follow-up
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: comment saying, I also feel like you have to do
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: it before. The issue is maybe some teams want to
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: see how Sunday pans out. That's fair, but then try
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: and get it done Monday. Player doesn't play. Monday night
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: in Minnesota, you acquire them. Major League Baseball, hockey, NBA style,
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: you trade for them that same day. They're not going
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: to debut that night. But yeah, I think that's just tight.
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: You're putting yourself into a, you're pigeonholing yourself, kind of
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: backing yourself into a corner if you wait until after
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: your Monday night game. Slim says, what's your beef with Bishop?
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: Ant might've missed it from other. No beef. I just think,
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: I think the most succinct way I can say it
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: is I think he's more traits than he is football player.
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: I think his first year, his second year, and this year,
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: he just looks too lost as a safety at times.
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: Not as safe. He just has like a player, just not,
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: no feel for routes behind him, routes developing, feel for
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: spatial awareness. Um, I think you just have to operate
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: with him in a very specific way. And I felt
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: that way since he was drafted. Um, I always thought
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: he needed to go to a team that played more
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: man coverage and would use him as kind of like
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: a big nickel. That's why I questioned the fit for
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: the bills. Cause at that time in McDermott's defense, it
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: was like, you're what you want him to be a
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: hide or a poyer. And granted he has the athletic
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: chops for it. Right. He's a guy who, you know, big, strong,
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: athletic tested really well. Um, But I just think he's
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: more traits than football player, and I don't holistically like that.
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: And with how much he's gotten lost on tape this
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: year and going back to last year, it worries me. Again,
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: I'm going to go. This isn't fair to hang it
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: over his head. I think I spoke about this several
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: weeks ago. I'm going to go back to that third
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: down play against Denver in the divisional round. Third and nine,
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: third and ten, whatever it was, after the Bills had
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: just scored. It's the drive that the Broncos drive down
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: and tie it at the end of the fourth. It's
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: third and nine, third and ten. The Bills play an
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: inverted Tampa two, and everybody ripped McDermott for playing a
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: soft coverage. It was a good call. Everybody executed. I
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: shouldn't say everybody. Majority of people executed, except for Cole Bishop,
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: who took the bait, and got high load and came
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: up on the route underneath that he didn't need to.
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: And Cortland Sutton got hit behind him by Bo Nix
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: on the dig because Bishop just doesn't have that feel,
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: doesn't have that awareness. And he's continued to do that
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: this year. And that's in my head, the fact that
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: that hasn't improved. And it's really just like, no, hey,
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: we just got to use this guy to play man
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: coverage or we got to blitz him. Also, he continues
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: to miss tackles from depth, and that pisses me off.
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: Safeties that don't make tackles from depth, that bothers me.
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: But that's also kind of a lost art. So yeah,
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: no beef. I just think he's more traits than football player.
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: And that gets to me, or worries me, I should say.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: And I don't think I've seen improvement in that area
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: enough for me to consider him a long-term option at safety.
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: Adrian says, how do you feel about Terrell Bernard? Joe
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: Brady says he's playing well, but... Joe Brady says he
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: is playing well, but I have eyes. He looks like
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: the equivalent of Taylor Rapp playing linebacker. I think Bernard
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: has been better than he's getting credit for. He's had
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: some good plays. I mean, in that first play that
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: Lamar got hurt, Rousseau is the one who hits the thumb,
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: but Bernard blitzes and goes right through Derrick Henry. Bernard
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: has had some nice moments where he's closed the door
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: on pullers, made some plays against the run. He's triggered
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: a little bit. I think some of the issues, I
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: think some of the blame that's been placed on him
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: was unfairly placed, and I think he's made some good
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: plays that have gone unnoticed. That being said, I think
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: there are times where he looks like he has cement
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: in his shoes, and that's not good for a dude
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: who's very undersized at linebacker. You cannot be small and
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: also be slow. Like, that is a death sentence. If
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: you're going to be slow, fine. You better be like 6'2, 240.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: If you're going to be small, that's fine. You better
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: shoot around the field and just be a ball of
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: lightning and a bolt every time you move. And I
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: don't think he is that. You know, if he's not
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: in the right spot, if he doesn't time it right,
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: if he doesn't see it right, he's going to get
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: swallowed up by offensive linemen. You know, it's... It's... considering
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: the contract they gave him. So yeah, I don't think
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: he's been as bad as people are making him out
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: to be. I don't think he's a plus player, and
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: I don't think he's playing to the level of the
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: contract he got, which is really unfortunate. I don't know
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: if it's due to the injury or what. I also
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: never thought he was the most fleet of footer athletic
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: guy before. I think if I remember, I think he's
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: got a good RAS score. And I remember people pointing
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: to that rash score and be like, oh, we got
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: this athletic dude at linebacker. And I remember thinking like,
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: I don't think, I don't, he doesn't show that on tape.
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: So yeah. He's, he's fine. Meh. Yeah. Again, I, I,
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: I would love an upgrade at line. I, I still
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: want to see Shaq Thompson. Get me the bigger guy
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: who can thump. And as a vet who's seen a ton,
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: I still had the interception against Trevor Lawrence in the
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: wildcard round playing in my head where he feels the
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: dig and knows it's coming and jumps it and picks it. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: I don't think he's been as bad as everybody's making
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: him out to be. I feel like a lot of
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: people think he's been like a 3 out of 10
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: or a 2. I think a lot of people think
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: he's been like a 2 out of 10. Joe Brady
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: talks about him like he's a 7 out of 10.
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: I think he's like... I think he's been like a
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: 4 out of 10 on average. But he's had some
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: moments where he's been a 6. And he's been a 7.
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: But then he's also had moments where he's been like
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: a 2. Or a 1. And more often than not.
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: And then like a 3. And that's the way I
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: think he averages out to a 4. That's kind of
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: where I put him. Slightly below average. To average at times.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: Depending on how you look at it. TVB says, Ant
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: watches too much film. I do watch too much film.
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: That is fair. Slim says... It seems like we don't
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: have a quote unquote complete player on the defense aside
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: from Groot and Walker. Everyone else has a well, but, uh, yeah,
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: I think Christian Benford's a complete player, good coverage player.
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: He can play man. He can play zone. He can tackle. Well, um, Hey,
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: I mean, his butt might be like, he's not a
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: plus athlete, but you could do that for kind of everybody. Um,
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: I think Benford is, I think Benford is a complete player. Um, Yeah,
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: I think Bedford's a complete player. I don't know if
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: I'd say Gruden-Walker or... No, I guess that's fair. But yeah,
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: that is the problem. Like, you look, there's no... I
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: don't know who you hang your hat on at times,
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: which is unfortunate. Adrian says that Oliver's a complete player.
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: When he's healthy, yeah. I just... That's always such a
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: wonky thing. I do think that Oliver is... Ed Oliver
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: is never going to hit the ceiling of a top
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: 10 pick. And I think that gets held against them
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: a lot, but he's a, he's a good football player
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: and a solid football player. He had some nice plays
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: in the Ravens game as well. Um, in his first
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: game back, it will be nice if he can stay
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: healthy and start to be somebody that can start to
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: generate some momentum. Uh, that's a fair comment. Can add
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: complete a game? That's a fair rebuttal. Um, best abilities, availability. Um,
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: but yeah, I think that's a lot. That's a, you know,
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: getting it back to the secondary. I think there's, um,
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: a slim says timestamp. Benford is a complete player. I've
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: always said Christian Benford was good. I just didn't think
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: he was a top 10 corner and a lock as
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: a top 10 corner. Like other people may have. Yeah.
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: But I think Christian Benford is a complete player. You know,
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: as a complete player, I think actually that's what I've
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: always said with Benford. I don't think Benford is elite
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: at anything. But I think every, and no, I take
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: it back. And I say this every time because I
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: always forget. He's an elite run defending corner. Coming forward, tackling,
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: playing the run, being a force player. He's elite at that.
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: But from like a trades perspective and overall, he's like,
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: he's not the biggest. He's not the strongest. He's not
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: the fastest. He's not the most athletic. He's not amazing
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: in man. He's not amazing in zone. Like he's just
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: a good all around football player. As a run defender,
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: he's like a nine, nine and a half. Everything else
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: for like being a corner in the NFL, Christian Benford
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: is like a six and a half or a seven,
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: maybe a seven and a half in everything. Like he's
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: not deficient in any area. And that's why I think
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: he's a complete football player. Like, is he the best
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: at everything? No. I think he's really, really, really good
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: at one thing. And then everything else, he is above,
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: above average. Marty says, I know this is off topic.
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: What do you think about Chubb so far, especially since
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: we were paying for two years at least? I think
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: he's been fine. Plays the run. Good as a spiker.
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: He's kind of been what I've expected. I was underwhelmed
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: at the signing just because it was the same type
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: of skill set that they've had. It was the same
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: archetype at edge that they've subscribed to for years. But
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: he's been fine. Plays the run. He's a good spiker.
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: Clears the pass for other guys on all the games
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: and a lot of the movement stuff they've been doing.
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: um knows his responsibility knows his role plays it he's
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: a solid pro and i don't mean that as like
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: a disparaging comment or a negative like he's been fine
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: and i again i don't mean that to be like
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: a backhanded thing he's he's been a solid edge to
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: low tier edge to which is what he is at
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: this stage um but a guy that you can start
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: on a good defense he's been reliable so i i'm
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: i'm whelmed by him he's played to what i thought
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: he would be i'm not underwhelmed i'm not overwhelmed if
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: you If they signed him and you thought he was
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: going to be like a 12-13 sack dude, you're probably disappointed.
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: I'm not saying you didn't think that. We're still on
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: this out there in general. But I think he's been fine.
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: Joshua says, off-topic question on Groot. Oh, he brought up
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: my Batman-Robin metaphor. Does the Batman-Robin metaphor still apply to him?
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: If not, what changed about him? I've thought about this
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: so much because the only thing that's really changed is
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: the defense and the angles he's rushing from and playing
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: in a two-point stance. He's not winning with like, oh,
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: rush plan and moves. He's essentially winning with the same
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: thing every time. He takes two steps. He's already into
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: a tackle. He uses a long arm. You know, if
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: he's rushing off the defense's left or the offense's right,
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: he's in a two-point stance. He takes two steps because
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: he's a frigging tree. Gets that right arm, his inside arm,
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: right into the chest of the tackle. Uses his outside arm,
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: that left hand. He'll grab the outside wrist of the
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: right tackle, lift it, and then either pushes himself through,
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: or pulls himself through. I don't think, I still think
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: he's more of a Robin despite the sack production that
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: he's at right now and the pressure production. I think
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: what's changed is his usage. You know, there's more games,
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: there's more stunts. And then the angles that he's rushing
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: from combined with a two point stance, I think more
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: and more advantageous to his play style and his length,
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: his size and his frame. So I think he's still
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: more of a Robin just because he's, And I don't
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: mean this to be like, he's not doing anything. He's
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: just winning with the same thing, which is fine. If
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: it's not broken, don't fix it. I think he's a
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: Batman against the run, but I still think he's more
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: of a Robin as a pass rusher, despite the production.
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: I don't think all of a sudden, because again, he's not...
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: He's not like, oh, he's winning with this move, and
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: then he's winning with that. But he knows... what to
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: win with. And then Leonard's defense is setting him up
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: in those advantageous positions, the length, his stride, and then
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: his arm length is creating such a problem. There was
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: even a spot to where, um, Oh, TV or MP
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: says maybe a Walker goes into a Batman. That can
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: be possibility. Um, there was even a snap to a
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: Rosen garden and right tackle tries to like quick set
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: him and like jump him. So like, He goes out
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: to him right away. He doesn't take a 45-degree set
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: or vertical set. He jumps right out to him, and
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: he gets on Groot right away, and then Groot works
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: himself through with his hands and his length. That length
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: is such a problem, and when you set him up
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: at those angles in this defense and with his stride
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: and in the two-point stance, yeah, it's really working for him.
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: So I think it's more of the defense changed I
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: don't think much to his game has changed. I think
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: he's seeing the game a little bit better because he's
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: in a two point stance. But I think the way
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: he's being used is the biggest difference for him just
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: because of how he's winning and how those wins are coming.
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: So he's playing in his role well. I think it's
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: just more of the defense really being a good fit
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: for him and how he's being used not to knock him. TV.
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: This is accurate. TV says every time they do a
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: stunt Walker be doing a hold on the center and
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: they get a free rusher every time, man, they were
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: doing a bunch of tackle twists against Baltimore. And yeah,
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: he was just holding. You could see it on the tape.
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: Like the center's Jersey is being pulled and stretched. And yeah,
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: Cam Jurgens, he's throwing his hands up. Like he's being held. Yeah.
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: Walker held him a ton. They did not call defensive
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: holding on walk. I don't think they called it once
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: and they easily could have called it like three times.
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: There were three like egregious ones for sure. Matt Bovee
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: threw out the idea of trading for Kyle Hamilton since
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: Baltimore is in a reset. It will never happen from
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: 6 to midnight for a bit. The Ravens are not
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: trading Kyle Hamilton. And if they did, it's going to
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: be for like five first-round picks. that's fair yeah i
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: don't think they're trained i would love kyle hamilton especially
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: for jim letter oh man that would be sick but
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: yeah the ravens aren't uh are training kyle hamilton but
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: man that would be uh like i said that would
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: be super sick you know what else is super sick
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: the best pizza in Buffalo, New York, One Pie Pizza.

- 1:20:09Speaker 1: this all the time. Christmas is my favorite holiday. I
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: think it is for a lot of people. But for
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: a lot of people, it might not be, and it
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: might suck. And I don't think any kid should go
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: presentless or toyless on Christmas. And sometimes parents can't provide
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: for their kids in the way that they want. And
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: so Toys for Tots, again, whether you're doing it through OnePie,
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: Toys for Tots, or someone else, you donate into a church,

- 1:20:33Speaker 1: brighten a kid or a family's holiday season, it goes

- 1:20:39Speaker 1: the gift is, whatever it is. So taking part is
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: such an awesome thing, whether you're doing it through OnePie,
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: somewhere else, whatever. But if the generosity of just doing
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: that isn't enough and you want to be like, hey,
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: I also want to donate and or get an awesome
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: chance to win some stuff, then Toys for Tots drive

- 1:21:10Speaker 1: Jets in Buffalo. Second prize is a $ 200 One Pie
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: gift card. I'm not going to lie. The two club
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: seats to Bills vs. Jets would be sick. $ 200 worth
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: of One Pie is freaking amazing. Third prize. a Pepsi
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: branded umbrella and one pie merch. And then the fourth
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: prize is a $ 50 one pie gift card. Now I
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: mentioned a secret pizza earlier and I want to talk
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: about it. This will only be advertised on this show.
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: It can only be ordered. If you call into one pie,
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: you cannot order this pizza online. It does not exist
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: on the online menu. It is a secret pizza item
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: menu tied to this show. I'm not talking about it
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: online or social only talking about it here on the show.
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: It has to be called in. This is, I respect the,
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: the commitment to, okay, let's do a pizza. How can
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: we also have like some Buffalo Ness tied to the
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: pizza and attached to the pizza? So what you've got
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: here is a beef on whack pizza, garlic butter, mozzarella, provolone,
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: thin sliced beef, kosher salt, caraway shake, and then creamy
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: horseradish drizzle that's put on after the pizza bakes. Again,
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: this can only be ordered via call-in. It won't be
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: available online. The only people that are going to hear
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: about it are people that watch the show and or
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: the people who watch the show tell other people. RJ,
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: I know you're going in and you're going to do
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: some kind of crazy pizza. Yes, RJ, please and thank you.
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: Order that beef on wet pizza. I love the exclamation points.
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: I need pictures of it and I need to know
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: what you think and what you think. Um, I don't
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: want to be the person that orders the old secret
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: pizza cause of the show. So I, I need, please
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: order it. Tell me what you think. I hope it's amazing.
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: I need pictures. Tag me like you always do. Um,
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: but yeah, toys for tots drive for one brought one pie.
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: And every time you bring in a toy, you get
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: entered into the raffle. So say you bring in five toys,
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: you'll get five raffle tickets. Um, So again, bring in
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: a new toy or cash donation. You'll get entered into
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: the raffle sponsored by Pepsi and Disguise Coverage. First prize,
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: two club seats to Bills vs. Jets. Second prize, $ 200
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: One Pie gift card. Third prize, a Pepsi branded umbrella
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: and One Pie merch. And the fourth prize is a
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: $ 50 One Pie gift card. And again, that's the secret pizza.
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: Talked about here on the show. Has to be called in.
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: No online ordering. Beef on wet pizza. Garlic butter. Mozzarella. Provolone.
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: Thin sliced beef. Thin sliced beef. Kosher salt. Caraway shake
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: and creamy horseradish drizzle. Pizza. Holidays. Between all the pizza
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: I eat and eggnog around the holiday season, man, it
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: would be a lot of poundage that I'm going to
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: be putting on here in my house and in myself.
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: I'm going to throw up the banner. It says toodles, folks,

- 1:24:47Speaker 1: underscore underscore ant. Get at me on Blue Sky at
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: pro ant. No underscores there, just P-R-O-A-N-T. That's right. RJ says, hey,
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: the big tree is coming soon. That's right. That's right.
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: The little tree. Oh, no, little tree will stay there,
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: and I'll decorate it for Christmastime. And then, oh, I'm
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: going to block their Andre Reid jersey, but then the
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: big holiday tree, the Christmas tree, is going to go
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: over here. You are right. You are right. Oh, and
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: RJ selling the one pie. They're saying every specialty pizza
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: I've had there has been great. Yes. Their food is phenomenal.
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: I was super pumped when, um, so I, I talked
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: with the owner, um, a while ago back during the
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: summer about, you know, doing something for the one, one, one,
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: the toys for tots drive and, um, what we were
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: going to do this year, what the giveaway was, what
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: the prizes were, the proceeds, all of it. Um, And
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: then he was like, Oh, I also want to tie in.
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: Like he surprised me. He's like, Oh, we're going to
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: do a specialty pizza, like a secret pizza that you
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: can talk about on the show. We're not going to
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: advertise it anywhere else. I thought that was super cool.
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: Like a secret menu item and it's only attached to
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: the show. So I think that's super cool. And yeah,
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: every special, everything they've done there has been amazing, whether
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: it's a standard pizza or a specialty pizza. So yeah,
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: get that beef on whack pizza and let me know
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: how it is. Please, please, please. Thank you. Yeah. James
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: says beef on whack. Yummy. Yeah. I know on the pizza, like,
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: I just reading about the ingredients sounds phenomenal. So, uh,
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: I'm probably gonna have to snag one at some point,
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: which is super cool, which is funny. Cause I usually
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: only order online. So I'm calling, uh, yeah. Good times.
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: I hope you folks enjoyed this episode. Enjoy the rest
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: of your Tuesday evening. Enjoy the rest of your week. Uh,
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: if you did not check it, I already had a
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: film breakdown episode that went out yesterday, breaking down a
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: bunch of tape from the bills defense against the Ravens,
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: you know, how and why it felt more Jim Leonard like,
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: and what he was doing and how the players were executing. Um,
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: a really good stuff there. I mean, granted, I'll probably buy.
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: So if you want to check that out, please do
