- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good evening from my dining room, the boys went to
- 0:31see a very scary movie to which that means, oh, I don't have to
- 0:35go. And I'm sitting here at the
- 0:38dining room table surrounded by seed packets and looking at
- 0:43everything that I purchased and going oh boy, what the hell was
- 0:47I thinking when I went through all of this?
- 0:49Now, as you can hear, I've got shaking some of them around.
- 0:54I've got, you name it, vegetables, flowers, herbs.
- 0:58I've even got some something new called Schwanz's black peanuts,
- 1:04which I'm super excited to plant.
- 1:07I, I love growing peanuts, but I haven't had a lot of success
- 1:11doing it. So these are supposed to do
- 1:12really well in this type of environment.
- 1:16So we're going to see how that does huckleberries, you know,
- 1:20all the way over to giant zinnias again, Agastash, which I
- 1:26cannot wait to grow Dahlia from seeds, something called Black
- 1:30Forest Ruby. I mean, you can't believe how
- 1:35many packets I have. How did this happen?
- 1:38It happens because I don't order them all at once.
- 1:41And then as I sit and get my orders sent to me, they start to
- 1:47accumulate. So I might guess that I probably
- 1:51have about, I'm going to say 75 to 85 packets and that could be
- 1:57low. And yes, there are a lot of
- 2:00seeds in each packet, but remember, some of these will be
- 2:03sequentially planted. So for instance, lettuce I will
- 2:08plant multiple times just to make sure I can keep getting it
- 2:12because lettuce is one of those things that, you know, burns out
- 2:15pretty quickly. And hopefully we'll be able to
- 2:18get some rounds of it. And there are other things that
- 2:21I'll sequentially plant, maybe potentially tomatoes, I don't
- 2:26know, we'll see. But a lot of this his
- 2:30experimentation for me, especially since I'm going to be
- 2:33doing a garden of complete herbs this year as well.
- 2:38Still figuring out the best way and where I'm going to put that.
- 2:41But everything is being started between now and next Friday in
- 2:45the garage. I'm a little weak, probably a
- 2:47week and a half behind starting things because I'm trying a new
- 2:51soil that is supposed to help us grow them even, you know,
- 2:55healthier and quicker. That came from a recipe that
- 2:58Floret flowers put out. Now, the reason I'm telling you
- 3:01all of this is because this is one of those things, if you
- 3:04listen every day, you know, that I was feeling behind and with
- 3:08the boys going to the movies, I was like, OK, this really gives
- 3:11me time to sit, sort through things, get organized, which
- 3:14makes me feel really good in doing that.
- 3:16And it's, it's going to give me the, the ability just to kind of
- 3:22get my head back in the right space.
- 3:25But immediately, as soon as I'm with the packets, I get excited.
- 3:28And I don't necessarily feel as behind as I did more than as
- 3:34excited as I am. So the lesson in all of this for
- 3:38me is always one big one, which is, hey, you know what, as these
- 3:43things happen because they always happen, we always have
- 3:46these little things that show up and we always have these little
- 3:49things that make us feel excited or behind or overwhelmed,
- 3:53whatever it might be. Take it with a grain of salt
- 3:56because it's not going to stay too long because you're not
- 3:58you'll be moving on to the next thing.
- 4:00So I am going to sit on my Saturday evening and I'm going
- 4:04to sort through these and I am going to be excited about it.
- 4:08Now, obviously, we lose an hour of sleep.
- 4:10I'll be dealing with that in the morning just like everybody else
- 4:14would. Unless you live in a wonderful
- 4:15state that doesn't make you do that, but my state does make us
- 4:18do that. So I'm going to be dealing with
- 4:21that. I'll be getting up and I will
- 4:23definitely be planting seeds tomorrow and feeling very
- 4:29excited about it. Very hopeful.
- 4:31Because anytime you put a seed into the ground, you start to
- 4:35feel hope. So even if you have never done
- 4:38it before, I highly recommend go out and buy a pack of sunflowers
- 4:42and just get a little pot and plant a sunflower and see what
- 4:45happens. Because just the feeling of
- 4:47doing that is so fantastic. And, and if you really want
- 4:51something that could do a lot for you, try doing microgreens
- 4:55because they sell these little trays that are all set up and
- 4:57you can just start a tray of microgreens, throw them in your
- 5:00protein shake and believe it or not, they are super foods.
- 5:04They are super powerful for our bodies.
- 5:06So it's worth trying it. It's it's definitely worth
- 5:10something that you can, you can do for yourself.
- 5:14So I highly, highly, highly recommend it and I highly
- 5:17recommend that you give it a shot and see because anytime you
- 5:21are able to just put those seeds in your world changes.
- 5:26So I'm going to go continue sorting and I hope you guys have
- 5:28a blessed day today and I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:31Bye.
