- 0:14Hello and welcome to Arguing Ever After.
- 0:17I'm Luke and this is my fantastic redhead bride, Amber.
- 0:22Hello. Together we're the Lord and Lady
- 0:25who lock horns. The counting Countess of
- 0:27contention. The Duke and Duchess of
- 0:29Disagreement. And the king and queen of
- 0:31quarrels. In this podcast, we bicker about
- 0:33all things big and small, and we let the audience vote determine
- 0:37who the winner is. Many of our topics are
- 0:41frequently submitted by our listeners, which we like, so if
- 0:44you have something you want us to battle about, please share it
- 0:46with us at arguingeverafter@gmail.com.
- 0:49All. Right for our 35th episode.
- 0:53Is that a milestone? Are we 35?
- 0:55Yeah, we're 35. I don't know.
- 0:57It is to me. It's a milestone in life.
- 1:00Is it? I think that's when you're like,
- 1:02officially an adult. I OK.
- 1:05Oh, am I wrong? I I don't know.
- 1:07I mean, legally it's 18. I mean, I feel like, isn't that
- 1:10when you're really middle-aged, you're starting to be
- 1:12middle-aged? You what?
- 1:14Just kidding, not at all. No, that's that's you.
- 1:17Stop it this instant. OK.
- 1:19Well, anyhow, we have a new country.
- 1:24We do. It's been a bit.
- 1:26We have listeners now from Chile.
- 1:29Or Chile, if you want to say it like they say it.
- 1:32I I would love to. You refuse to attempt accents.
- 1:36I'm terrible at it and. I it's funny when you do any
- 1:40accent, it's very rare, but. I don't think I ever do it.
- 1:43You don't, OK. But you slip into it by
- 1:47accident. Ever.
- 1:47Like when we're in Mexico. Noah.
- 1:49No way. You just said Noah.
- 1:51Noah Only accent I do is Minnesotans.
- 1:56Yeah, you got that one. That's it, That's it.
- 1:58It comes out. But what do we do in honor of
- 2:01our new countries, Luke? We say hello in their native
- 2:04tongue. So to you there in the beautiful
- 2:07country of Chile, Hola. Yes, welcome to our podcast.
- 2:12Welcome back because I know you tuned in for another episode so.
- 2:16Bienvenido Aki. OK, good.
- 2:21That was. Good to have you here.
- 2:23Well, welcome here. Sort of directly translated.
- 2:26It's sort of like welcome back. OK, there you go.
- 2:29There you go. We've been in places where they
- 2:32speak Spanish and I don't speak any Spanish, but.
- 2:35I do. Luke does, so he's our
- 2:38interpreter. But not like, well, like.
- 2:40I'm certainly not fluent. Well enough better than me.
- 2:44Well enough like I could survive if we were dropped in a Spanish
- 2:48speaking area. Enough to get like just the
- 2:51basics out of like where is this thing or where do I go next?
- 2:56Donde esta la bano LL OK, but I feel like they'd get the hint.
- 3:04Banyo. I feel like they would be.
- 3:05Yeah, they, they'd probably get it.
- 3:07Yeah. And they?
- 3:08'D be like, well, clearly this. Yeah.
- 3:11That's two things you could be looking for, the beach or the
- 3:13bathroom. And you're pale, so you must
- 3:17need the bathroom. Exactly.
- 3:20And the beach. And we all I know every time we
- 3:23go. They would think you needed the
- 3:24beach and you would not. Yeah.
- 3:27And we've gone several times to places like Mexico, and they
- 3:30always think that we just got there.
- 3:32And I'm like, no, I've been here for a week and they look at me
- 3:34and yeah, no, You sure? You sure you've been here for a
- 3:37week? Yep.
- 3:38This is as dark as I get. I was just talking to one of our
- 3:41friends about how we vacation and how when we first went on
- 3:45our like true first adult vacation that wasn't our
- 3:49honeymoon. When we went to Mexico, we
- 3:52quickly realized that we were different vacationers.
- 3:55And over over years and years of travel, I've realized that your
- 3:58way is more fun. Aw, thank you.
- 4:00Thank you. Relaxing on a beach has its
- 4:02merits, but you know you can relax really anywhere.
- 4:07You know you can't do anywhere. Discover the local culture and
- 4:10food. Yes, those are two very
- 4:12important things I like to do when I travel.
- 4:16But yeah, I totally agree. I can relax anywhere and I feel
- 4:19like when I'm on vacation, I go to bed earlier anyhow.
- 4:22So the concept of needing to like just lay down, I, I do that
- 4:27earlier in the evening. You do not on vacation.
- 4:30I don't stay up late. You absolutely stay up late on
- 4:33vacation. I don't think I do OK I I have
- 4:36no idea. Let's go on vacation and test it
- 4:38out. We can't for a while.
- 4:41I know, Boo Hoo, I. Know we're working way too hard
- 4:44on this podcast. No time for sleep.
- 4:48Fakest thing ever. No, but our well your time off
- 4:54is limited and I feel like you maybe would be a little ornery
- 5:01if I went on vacation without you.
- 5:04Oh my goodness, you would never. I don't know the answer to that,
- 5:11but I have never. How was that for an answer for
- 5:17you? That's that's, I mean, it is
- 5:20what it is I guess. Traveled without me.
- 5:22For work. Not just for work, for family
- 5:26reasons. For family reasons.
- 5:30Yes, because a lot of your family is all over and if you
- 5:33needed to see them you would. Go to see them.
- 5:36I mean, I love my family, but that's not vacation.
- 5:39I mean I. Guess it is for a lot of people
- 5:41probably. I would say we've definitely
- 5:44gone and visited your family and counted it as vacation.
- 5:48We have. Sure, sorry some of us don't
- 5:51have that rich go anywhere anytime vacation.
- 5:54Sometimes you got a multitask when you're.
- 5:56Oh, I guess we have multitask like Salem and stuff, yeah.
- 6:01Of. Course you know what to have in
- 6:02Salem. There's witches.
- 6:05They do. You know what to have when we go
- 6:07to the ocean. No.
- 6:09The ocean. OK, that.
- 6:13Wow, I was teeing you up. I don't think it actually.
- 6:16Worked. Not taking the bait.
- 6:17OK, we'll keep talking. No, I don't think it.
- 6:19Worked. They don't know what's going on
- 6:20anyway. I mean, so here's the thing with
- 6:22knowing how to segue. We don't, I think I don't.
- 6:26I think you might need some lessons, maybe maybe some
- 6:29lessons in it. You know, Speaking of lessons,
- 6:33when I was a kid, one of my favorite things I had in school
- 6:37was this additional class because I was so smart.
- 6:40You segwayed so hard. I know.
- 6:48Do you tell us? Yeah, yeah.
- 6:50So I got to take these additional classes because I was
- 6:52so smart in elementary school to learn about these interesting
- 6:57things that you wouldn't normally get to learn about in
- 7:00elementary school. In elementary.
- 7:02School, elementary school, yes. So one of the things we learned
- 7:06about and maybe one day we'll talk about is the Bermuda
- 7:09Triangle. That was one of our lessons.
- 7:12What I mean, OK, Do you remember Bermuda Triangle?
- 7:16Devil's Island. I don't.
- 7:18I don't. The Addams Family.
- 7:20I don't remember this in there. Yeah.
- 7:22What? Sorry, I apologize.
- 7:23Gomez professing his love for his wife.
- 7:26OK. OK, so that was one of the
- 7:28things and and that's a whole I learned a lot about.
- 7:31Somebody out there right now is ashamed of you.
- 7:33I'm a little ashamed of me too. But then another thing we
- 7:35learned about was the pyramids, a lot about Egyptian ancient
- 7:41Egypt, which is something I'm still interested in today.
- 7:44Yeah, Another thing I got to do was we made a play, but the
- 7:47thing that I think is perhaps the most timeless and seems to
- 7:51hit everybody. Maybe not, Maybe I just think
- 7:54that it does was Greek mythology.
- 7:57I'm pretty sure that's a big deal for most European descended
- 8:03countries and peoples. Yeah, it's, I feel like it might
- 8:07not be that deep into like South America, Africa.
- 8:12I mean, technically they're sort of European mixed with anyway,
- 8:16whatever. Yeah, I don't know, but I just
- 8:18found it very fascinating and I find it interesting today our
- 8:24our child who is I guess child, she's not really child, but
- 8:27she's our child is really into a lot of Greek mythology with the
- 8:33release of. Epic The.
- 8:36Musical. There it is.
- 8:37Big deal with the kids, some kids.
- 8:39Some kids. Theater kids.
- 8:40Theater kids. Yes, yes, if you haven't heard
- 8:43it. OK, you could if you want.
- 8:46There's a lot of singing. It's very operatic and dramatic
- 8:49and Broadway ish. Yeah, yeah.
- 8:51And it's kind of interesting, but like, if you have heard it,
- 8:53you've heard it probably more than you even care to.
- 8:56That's true. But it's it's good music in
- 8:59there. And I think it's kind of a fun
- 9:01way for younger people, I guess, to learn the story of Odysseus
- 9:07and all of that. But it just, it just takes me
- 9:11back when she talks about it. And I have my opinions that I've
- 9:14developed over the years and she has hers.
- 9:17And there might be a little bit of some artistic direction
- 9:24taken, an epic musical that maybe for sure didn't happen in
- 9:28the Odyssey, but. That's true.
- 9:32You know, there's interpretations of everything
- 9:34and that's part of part of it, but just interesting.
- 9:37I loved Greek mythology. I still do.
- 9:39I do, too. Learning about it, talking about
- 9:41it, thinking about it. We both happened to wear shirts
- 9:45today that work for it. Yours is better.
- 9:48I mean, good eye roll for you audio folks.
- 9:51You just missed a deep eye roll. It's solid.
- 9:54I'm wearing a Nike shirt. Yeah, from the shoe company.
- 9:58That's a stretch. No, it's not.
- 10:00Nike was the goddess of trying. I know, but your.
- 10:02Daughter of the Titan of Battle. You didn't buy a Nike shirt,
- 10:05That's true. You liked?
- 10:07But I guarantee you they named it Nike for that reason.
- 10:10Probably. I mean, their motto is just do
- 10:12it. Maybe it's because the owner was
- 10:16Sir Nikkei and they're like, cool.
- 10:20I think it's actually pronounced Nikkei, but like the in the like
- 10:24the Greek. I I don't speak.
- 10:26Greek, right? Neither do I It's.
- 10:27Actually all Greek. If there's any Greek people
- 10:29listening or ever listen to this, they'll know by the end of
- 10:32this that we do not have the right words and accents.
- 10:36Right, right. No.
- 10:37And that's OK. We are just two people
- 10:40mislearning everything and remembering all the things that
- 10:45we may or may not have taken in. So, you know, I mean like the
- 10:48educational factor we've said is not very high sometimes that's
- 10:52true facts in here. I mean, I feel like maybe not a
- 10:55lot of people or some people didn't know that Nike was the
- 10:58goddess of triumph until just now.
- 11:00I I would. Think triumph in many ways, not
- 11:03just a contest in battle, but like excellence in arts and
- 11:07music. Every time I hear the word
- 11:09triumph. Do you?
- 11:10Think of the motorcycle. No.
- 11:13That's OK. You were gonna say something
- 11:15else, You go. I think of Triumph the dog, the
- 11:18comic dog. Oh, OK.
- 11:20Yeah, that's the thing. I mean, that's real long ago, I
- 11:25think, but it was the whole for me to poop on guy.
- 11:31So I don't know. I don't like that word.
- 11:33I didn't like the the comic dog. Was it the comic dog?
- 11:36Triumph the Insult comic. Dog.
- 11:37Yes, it. Really wasn't great but for some
- 11:40reason it was like famous. It was, it was, and for you
- 11:44young folk who never heard of this.
- 11:45You didn't miss much. No, you didn't.
- 11:48It was not, but it was. I think of the motorcycle when
- 11:52people say Triumph really, or sometimes the cars.
- 11:56OK, well apparently I think pop culture must rub off more on me
- 12:01than it does on you. Automotives always will rub off
- 12:04more on me. Yeah, that makes sense.
- 12:07That makes sense. So, OK, so you were talking
- 12:10about, oh, and when we were in high school, I was, we were
- 12:13talking about learning about Greek mythology.
- 12:16I took a mythology class and I think you may have been in it,
- 12:20but I don't remember. I definitely took 1 and I also
- 12:23sadly don't remember if you were in it high school.
- 12:30Yeah, yeah. Can we blame this on just our
- 12:33memories are fading cuz we're past the middle age of 35?
- 12:37I think so. I think that's fair.
- 12:39I think that's fair. There were probably other
- 12:42circumstances. I feel like we would have been
- 12:44in the same class together though because we were in the
- 12:45same grade and the odds are that they offered it.
- 12:48You could take it whenever. Maybe.
- 12:50Yeah, you could, you could. I don't know.
- 12:52I don't know if we took it together or not, but I just, I
- 12:56don't know. I, I actually it's one of those
- 12:58places too, with Greece where I'm like, I don't know if I want
- 13:00to visit there. There's a lot of things that
- 13:02might be interesting. I totally want to go to Athens
- 13:04and see like the Parthenon and. Yeah, but I mean, maybe, maybe
- 13:09there have been lots of places I've gone to that I didn't
- 13:11really care to go to because I was like, it's just like DC,
- 13:15right? I never cared to go to DC.
- 13:17Well, you liked it. But when I went there, yeah, I
- 13:19was like, wow, this stuff actually all looks like the
- 13:22pictures IRL. You had more than that happened
- 13:25to you. Well, we visited your family.
- 13:29No, it was nice. I mean, I also liked.
- 13:32You had some patriotic thoughts and feelings.
- 13:34I don't know if I had patriotic thoughts and feelings.
- 13:36About our little strong beginnings.
- 13:38What I did? Happen about our ideals no, I
- 13:41think nothing just. Think you.
- 13:43Put more Lincoln. No, I was surprised.
- 13:46Giant Lincoln statue. I was surprised how much I was
- 13:49like, dude, that is like on the back of the penny, no?
- 13:51Sure is. No doubt, it truly is.
- 13:53Wow. But what I really liked about
- 13:56DC? He's also on the $5.00 bill.
- 13:59For people who know me, this isn't a surprise.
- 14:01This is. The $5.00 bill, I think that's
- 14:02right. Okay.
- 14:06You know that time when you're having two separate
- 14:07conversations and you just down those roads?
- 14:11Well, anyhow, what I did like about DC was that you could go
- 14:16to all the museums for free in quotations, free, because you're
- 14:22already paying for it in your taxes.
- 14:24And most vacations cost a lot of money for all the admissions and
- 14:27things. So I really appreciated that a
- 14:29lot. And I like museums a lot.
- 14:32I really do like learning what I wanna learn and experiencing
- 14:36what I wanna experience on my terms.
- 14:40That might be why school, when we can't remember if we were in
- 14:43the same class as anything, might be a little bit more
- 14:45difficult. Our terms were on different
- 14:47levels or wavelengths. Yeah, I think so.
- 14:50I think so. I've always been really into
- 14:52like any stories about mythology or like, like, you know, the
- 14:58stories that are the big ones like gods, goddesses, epics,
- 15:04stuff like that has always been and still is quite meaningful to
- 15:09me. Well, what's that saying?
- 15:11One person's myth is another person's religion.
- 15:15So. You know, I've never heard that.
- 15:17Oh really? But I agree.
- 15:19I think I heard that probably in this early elementary school
- 15:22when I was learning about. My house.
- 15:27So, so it's an interesting thing that.
- 15:29There's still people that actively practice like Greek
- 15:32religion as a religion. Does that even mean the
- 15:35Olympians? What do you call it?
- 15:38You know, I guess I. Didn't like a Zeus God and like
- 15:42Hera is the queen of the gods. Know that there is now that's a
- 15:48really good thing if we were to utilize our other device.
- 15:52I mean, I will say Catholicism took over.
- 15:54Yeah. But that's not to say that
- 15:56entirely. The rest of it's gone.
- 15:58I bet you there is like there's probably like a like a religion
- 16:02of the, the Greek, the the Olympians.
- 16:05It's got to be the Olympians, right?
- 16:07That's yeah. You know what the Illuminati I
- 16:09feel like they're probably into? Maybe, hey, if we get another
- 16:13just Illuminati if you're still listening.
- 16:15Of course they are. Drop us.
- 16:16Drop us a line. Yeah, let us know.
- 16:19Let us know. I, I don't know, I feel like
- 16:21there's probably someone who still believes it or has, you
- 16:23know, like maybe they have some superstitions.
- 16:25Or I could get into believe in it.
- 16:27I'm easily swayed to believe things.
- 16:29You are you are very easy. I'm into belief in faith and
- 16:33it's good. It's good stuff.
- 16:35Yeah, yeah, I'm into appreciating other people's
- 16:38beliefs in faith, but there's so much there and there's so much
- 16:43history like. Yep.
- 16:46I mean, I, I find it, that's what I think is interesting, is
- 16:49how long it must have taken to come up with all these stories,
- 16:53because there's endless stories. Oh, it's crazy.
- 16:55I cannot imagine like some of them do.
- 16:57You think they have the most or maybe Hindu?
- 16:59No Hindu probably has more because they have like I think
- 17:02they have over 100 gods. I I you know what?
- 17:06Yeah, the Google. The Google word.
- 17:10We're not supposed to say the word.
- 17:11I say it all. Let's.
- 17:12Not we're not. We don't want to trigger
- 17:14anything. It's fine.
- 17:15It will be fine. And if we do whatever, and if we
- 17:18trigger it on other people's devices, right now they're
- 17:20getting. I've had that happen before
- 17:21where I'm listening to something and somebody says the word and
- 17:24then whatever device I'm on is like, oh, what do you want to
- 17:27talk about? Which is why I tell you not to
- 17:29do it. It's so distracting.
- 17:32You're like, I'll stop it. So it's like Voldemort.
- 17:36More than must not be said no because he was like an evil dark
- 17:40Lord that killed a bunch of people and.
- 17:42I don't know the. Search engine it searches.
- 17:46Some people might say AI is a little a little a little evil.
- 17:53Some people might not. There's people on both sides of
- 17:55that spectrum and that's a fight for another day for us.
- 17:58We could debate it, I mean. Oh, it's on the list.
- 18:01OK, I have lots of opinions. I have some too.
- 18:05Yeah. Do you?
- 18:05Yeah. OK.
- 18:07Well, I, I don't have any more opinions about about AI, but I
- 18:13do have a question for you, Luke.
- 18:16Already. I think so.
- 18:18OMG OK, let's get into it. Here we go.
- 18:22OK, this is maybe in a record. Is it?
- 18:25We're gonna have the longest debate in history.
- 18:28OK, I love it. I love it, I love it.
- 18:30And now, the moment you've all been waiting for in this corner,
- 18:35claiming to weigh in at 135 goddess like pounds, we have the
- 18:42sparkling deity Amber. Yes.
- 18:47And in this corner we have Luke, who is like almost 100%
- 18:53recovered. I'm going to say he won't say
- 18:55that at all. I appreciate the optimism.
- 18:58I mean you seem better. That's great.
- 19:00I'm still just for our video for our video friends.
- 19:03This is one of them grabby sticks you use cuz you can't
- 19:06bend over. But mentally you seem better, so
- 19:09that's. I do I feel less challenged in
- 19:12my daily livings. I think you're feeling stronger
- 19:15because your numbers are coming up.
- 19:19All good, let's feel stronger a little more.
- 19:21So in this Luke has we have 8 ties, 8 ties.
- 19:26That's our total right now. Our early days were mostly ties.
- 19:29Well, we had a, we had a lot of ties and then I have fourteen
- 19:32wins. That's a lot.
- 19:35But Luke has climbed up again to 11 wins, so that's why I think
- 19:39you're feeling strong. And if any of you sleuths out
- 19:43there is doing math, yes, that's more than 35 because we had a
- 19:47couple of unmarked bonuses thrown in there.
- 19:51No, it's not more than 35, isn't it?
- 19:54All right, Sorry for you people who can do math that is not
- 19:59accurate. We're fact.
- 20:02We thought it was 36 because of the live show.
- 20:04Oh no, no, no, don't. Just just know that I've we.
- 20:08Graduated high school, Barely. Oh, whoa, Nope, This, this is
- 20:12you're the one who's doing. That I was throwing you under
- 20:16the bus with me. If I'm going down, you're coming
- 20:18too. No, no, no, no, no, no.
- 20:20I don't even remember what you said.
- 20:22Anyhow, so, so we're gonna go back to the question.
- 20:28So I have a question for you. Please ask it.
- 20:32So we were talking about mythology.
- 20:33Then we got we got a little sidetracked and how to kind of
- 20:36bring it back to mythology. OK, because my question's very
- 20:41pertinent about it. Good of all the characters who
- 20:48we've learned through mythology, Greek mythology, we're going to.
- 20:52Keeping it in the Greek lane we're.
- 20:53Staying in Greece because I think we want to keep other
- 20:57other localities open for other days, yeah.
- 21:01I'd love to do some research on Hinduism and yeah, Buddhism and
- 21:05yeah, anyway, sorry. So much mythology out there.
- 21:09And maybe we can do a little bit of teaching, right?
- 21:12Yeah. Or learning.
- 21:14I'm ready. I don't know if it will be both,
- 21:17but maybe it will be. But my question is to you of all
- 21:20of the Greek stories. OK.
- 21:25Excluding Gods, because that's probably another episode.
- 21:29That's got to be another whole category.
- 21:31No gods. OK.
- 21:32Yep, no gods. Yeah.
- 21:34Who is your favorite character and why?
- 21:40Well, let me tell you. And the people yeah, OK, so my
- 21:44favorite is Hercules it I had a little internal debate I shared
- 21:52with you some of my thoughts. Yep.
- 21:54And it's hard cuz like I actually really do like a lot of
- 21:57the stories and a lot of the heroes and a lot of the heroines
- 22:00and I come back typically to what do you?
- 22:06I just had a memory. OK.
- 22:09Do you remember the Hercules show?
- 22:11Oh, for sure. With Minnesota's own Kevin
- 22:14Zorba. Absolutely, he went.
- 22:18But you know what A. Little off the deep.
- 22:20We didn't know. Before the Internet, we didn't
- 22:23know. That's true.
- 22:24We just reveled in his wonderful acting.
- 22:28He did have nice big oily muscles, didn't he?
- 22:31He did. He was a little a little oily.
- 22:33Yeah. In general.
- 22:35OK, sorry. That was just.
- 22:37Oh, you just wanted to bring up that there was once ATV show.
- 22:39It was a great TV show and alongside it, because there was
- 22:43Greek mythology, had a moment. It did.
- 22:46And Xena the warrior Princess, which was your jam?
- 22:51And then we both crossed over and started watching them
- 22:54together. And then the show's crossed over
- 22:56a bunch of times. They did.
- 22:57It was great. I think Xena was technically a
- 22:59spin of herpes. Well of course it would have
- 23:03been OK, whatever with her chakra.
- 23:07I don't know why that's a ohh. My God, you're so with the
- 23:09jokes. Just ohh, they come for the
- 23:13jokes, Luke. For you audio listeners, if any
- 23:16of you didn't get that, the spin off was the Oh my God, she had a
- 23:20circular weapon and she would throw it and it was like a
- 23:23boomerang and it would come back.
- 23:24Yes, you're you're welcome, I guess.
- 23:26Yep. I was deep.
- 23:28Could have kept that to yourself.
- 23:30Huh. I mean, I didn't you, you know.
- 23:31Just felt like it was the time I did.
- 23:33OK, I did. I had no choice.
- 23:35All right. OK.
- 23:36So, Hercules, Yeah. Hercules.
- 23:39Not Kevin Sorbo, just want to be super clear that we're talking
- 23:43about. Yep.
- 23:44The Hercules of legend. OK, yeah, so he not technically
- 23:51a God. OK.
- 23:52I think there's like some versions of his story where he
- 23:55gets turned into a God at the end of his life or something
- 23:58weird. But he was immortal son of Zeus.
- 24:01But not like he didn't have like the God like powers where you
- 24:05could whatever the gods do. I don't know all this stuff.
- 24:08Like he couldn't manipulate the mortal mind anyway, so he the
- 24:16the the reasons in my mind that he is my favorite.
- 24:20And of course all of this mythology is up for
- 24:23interpretation so we don't know how much of it is true.
- 24:27I imagine like most myths, some of it is rooted in truth because
- 24:32why would it be a story that lasted the ages if it wasn't OK,
- 24:37you're gonna Yep, I think I, I really think all myths that that
- 24:40last that long probably have some truth in them.
- 24:44OK, and some valuable truth even.
- 24:45So he had a couple like semi famous things and like really
- 24:53strong like, oh, he was really strong, but he had some really
- 24:57strong like stories that that that bring me in.
- 25:04So one of them is Hercules at the crossroads, which is I think
- 25:10it was, I don't remember the Greek.
- 25:18Well anyway, anyway, there was an Athenian philosopher that
- 25:20like made this famous back in like the, I don't know, 4 or 500
- 25:24BCE. Anyway, Hercules at the
- 25:27crossroads. He is at a like literally a
- 25:29crossroads and he is confronted with two choices from 2 gods.
- 25:39One is and I don't know their Greek names, but one is Vice and
- 25:44that's his first offering. He is offered the road of ease
- 25:48and comfort and pleasure, having whatever he should desire in
- 25:53life without having to do work essentially.
- 25:58And then he is offered another Rd. by another God, Virtue, who
- 26:05oh, and and vice is like very God like and shiny and, you
- 26:10know, attractive and whatever. And Virtue is more like toned
- 26:14down and drab and austere. And Virtue gives him the choice
- 26:19to travel the other Rd., which will be beset with challenges
- 26:22and hardship and toil, but will give him a life with purpose.
- 26:28And he immediately chooses that road.
- 26:30So that's one of the good stories that I like about
- 26:32Hercules because he chooses a life of difficulty, knowing that
- 26:37that road would bring out his best characteristics and
- 26:42strengths and that if he was going to have good things in
- 26:49life, he wanted to earn them. OK.
- 26:52So I think that's pretty great. I mean, I think that's great for
- 26:54if anyone had a decision like that, I, you know, I think
- 26:57there's plenty of us that would choose the easy way a lot of the
- 26:59times. But in the story of Hercules,
- 27:02choosing the hard way was one of the reasons he was considered
- 27:04great. Now his his super strength on
- 27:11that road propelled him to the 12 challenges, which is another
- 27:15of his big stories. I don't remember all of them.
- 27:19I do remember a few of them. So one of them was that he had
- 27:26to to kill the the lion of there was like a lion, a huge like,
- 27:35you know, giant sized lion terrorizing some town or city.
- 27:39And I can't. Was it Grace?
- 27:41I don't know. Anyway, I can't remember all the
- 27:43details, but so. And there was no weapon that
- 27:46could Pierce its hide. And so Hercules wrestled the
- 27:49lion and choked it and saved the town.
- 27:52Poor Kitty. Yes, indeed, but it was like
- 27:55eating, you know, babies and women and.
- 27:58Babies and women. And an adult, yeah, it was a
- 28:01giant carnivorous lion anyway, so.
- 28:04So he did that. That was one of the challenges
- 28:06that I remember. And that has some honor in it to
- 28:08be a protector. He's known as a protector
- 28:10throughout his. He also had, I think another one
- 28:17involved like a giant boar or bowl, not the Minotaur.
- 28:22Somebody else beat the Minotaur anyway, and a similar fashion.
- 28:26Due to his magnificent strength, he defeated the creature and
- 28:30protected the people. And most of his challenges were
- 28:34something like that. It was like defeat this enemy
- 28:37that's undefeatable to protect the people.
- 28:39One, the probably most famous one, was the Hydra, the three
- 28:42headed monster that couldn't be killed 'cause it always regrew
- 28:46its head even if you cut its head off.
- 28:48And he figured out that he could cut its head off and then
- 28:52cauterize the wound with a torch.
- 28:54So he burned the ends of the heads of the Hydra off, or the
- 28:57necks I guess. And so then it couldn't regrow
- 29:00and he beat it. And so that's like another.
- 29:03There's so many stories about Hercules.
- 29:04Those are some of the ones I remember.
- 29:08He's also known in both Greek and the Greek and the Roman
- 29:12stuff crossover quite a bit. But in both, he's known as the
- 29:15protector of women in childbirth or something like that.
- 29:21That was something I learned in my recent research.
- 29:25Weird. Which is which is interesting.
- 29:27It's probably something to do with his strength and the
- 29:29defeating of these these beasts and stuff maybe.
- 29:33This is odd. Well, I mean I you.
- 29:35Know, I mean, I don't doubt it, it's just weird.
- 29:37Like why would you have a? Well, part of it.
- 29:39OK, so then another thing that Hercules is known for is his
- 29:42great loves. Yeah, So he had two wives in his
- 29:49life, His first wife, Megara or Megan, depending on what story
- 29:56you read, you know, things get translated.
- 29:58They had a bunch of children, and they lived very happily.
- 30:02And he was living a mortal life. And I think he had been given
- 30:05the choice if he wanted to go with Zeus and be a God and he
- 30:08turned him down or something and wanted to be a mortal, a mortal,
- 30:12not immortal. And he was living this life in
- 30:16that Hera who hated Hercules because of she hated Zeus
- 30:20because Zeus cheated on her with immortal etcetera.
- 30:23Many, many, many times. Many times Zeus was the bad bad
- 30:25cheater and made Hercules. So she hated Hercules because
- 30:29Hercules was super strong and he was being given all this praise
- 30:34by the people and she thought he was terrible because he was
- 30:37begat terribly. So she is credited with killing
- 30:44his first wife and maybe their children, but I don't know that
- 30:48detail. But for sure the wife.
- 30:51And so then he then he had another wife who he rescued.
- 30:55She was the Princess or queen. It's either Dayanara or
- 31:00Dionysus. Dionysus was a God, right?
- 31:04I I think it's Diane. Anara.
- 31:06Yep. Anyway, so he rescued her from
- 31:09again some sort of, you know, a. Mythical Christmas.
- 31:12I remember hearing Kevin Sorbo saying Diane Anara.
- 31:15That checks out. Yeah, Yeah.
- 31:18And so he rescued her, I think, as a Princess from it was like
- 31:24not a minotaur. What's the horse with the with
- 31:26the with the man body a horse Centaur.
- 31:29OK, Centaur. It was like a super strong
- 31:31Centaur. Which are good characters in
- 31:35Harry Potter? OK, well this is not what we're
- 31:38talking about. So anyway, so he rescued her
- 31:41from the Centaur, and then they fell in love and became married
- 31:45and, you know, loved her dearly and.
- 31:49I think you. Have they also had children?
- 31:51Are you going to? Are you really arguing now?
- 31:53I'm not arguing. No.
- 31:54I'm helping you. I'm ready.
- 31:56I'm helping. You.
- 31:57Come on. You forgot his first love.
- 32:00Oh. His mother.
- 32:03OK. Hercules mother is why he was
- 32:06such a good person. I mean that makes sense, but I
- 32:12wasn't necessarily forgetting her, just that I was talking
- 32:15about his wives of. While you were talking about his
- 32:17loves and as the first. Woman he loved You know what?
- 32:19When he was a baby he killed some some snakes that Harris
- 32:23sent to kill him. Right, right.
- 32:25I forgot that, but that that checks out with a lot of his
- 32:29story. Actually, that's and that's why
- 32:31he was so caring. He and he was so.
- 32:33Woman in his. Absolutely.
- 32:35And he was so virtuous and let's see, and then some of the other
- 32:41stuff that he did in his life and this one I think you will
- 32:45absolutely adore and our viewers will absolutely adore.
- 32:49This is again in some of my research.
- 32:51I'm ready. He was once captured and
- 32:55punished by a queen named, I think it was Ormfalla.
- 33:04Wow, something like that. Wow.
- 33:06Who put him into service with her maids and he dressed as a
- 33:13woman in drag and performed tasks with the servants of the
- 33:18queen. Like I was like thread weeping
- 33:24and like basket carrying or something like that.
- 33:28So we served under a queen in drag for some time.
- 33:31I don't know. There you go.
- 33:32I don't know that. Hey, girl.
- 33:33Hey. Well, I mean I.
- 33:38But not like, no, the story is not that he did it begrudgingly.
- 33:41He did it. He embraced it.
- 33:43Interesting. Like I think maybe he enjoyed
- 33:45his time. Good.
- 33:46Good dressing up a little bit good.
- 33:48I actually think I semi remember an episode of the show where he
- 33:52did that. With Eolas.
- 33:54I don't remember it, but I'll trust you.
- 33:55Yeah, maybe that's where he met Eolas.
- 33:58His best? Friend it could be and that I
- 34:01don't anyway, so So that was another one of the stories that
- 34:05I thought was kind of funny. And I mean, there's a couple
- 34:10like I'm there's a couple, there's a bunch of other stories
- 34:13about Hercules, but like those ones, the big ones that stick
- 34:17out that, you know, because oddly, I think I'd I'd like to
- 34:22think I live in in a way similar to that.
- 34:25Not that I'm hold on, hold on. Bunch of little disclaimers.
- 34:30Not that I'm super strong or that I'm like traveling the
- 34:33world fighting demons, but like if I were given the choice today
- 34:37now between vice and virtue, I would pick virtue.
- 34:43Sure. And you believe that and you
- 34:45just said that I agree, but I mean that that I would I would
- 34:49like. Right.
- 34:51And I, I like that that's one of the big stories of Hercules and
- 34:56I like that he was a protector. I think that's a virtuous thing
- 35:01to do to protect people who aren't so good at protecting
- 35:04themselves or who need more help.
- 35:06Sure, sure. And I think that that shows a
- 35:09lot of care and his devotion and and non cheatingness with his
- 35:13spouses, which I also find to be admirable as all get out and
- 35:19that he was known for those things.
- 35:21I think that that's just great. So for me that's my choice for a
- 35:28non God Greek mythology character that isn't an animal.
- 35:35Those were. Our I know those, that's how.
- 35:36Narrow We made the lane cuz there's so much to talk about
- 35:40there's. So much to talk about and, and
- 35:42who knows? I mean, there might be people
- 35:44who are interested in some of this and there might be people
- 35:46who aren't. I feel like people of our age
- 35:48who maybe dorked out to some of the TV like we did.
- 35:51Right. They're gonna be like, I totally
- 35:53remember watching these shows. I you know what's really a
- 35:57bummer? I miss the shows, cuz again, we
- 36:01said Greek mythology had a moment.
- 36:03Yeah, I think learning through entertainment had a moment, cuz
- 36:09come on now. Discovery Channel and Science
- 36:12Channel and Animal Planet and most of that stuff's gone, and
- 36:16reality TV took over so much. I think, OK, I think there's
- 36:21some resurgences going on right now.
- 36:23Like, I mean, that Netflix series that we watched, I think
- 36:27it was Netflix. I'm watching one right now
- 36:29called the Sandman which is about lots of the gods with Jeff
- 36:34Goldblum as Zeus. Was it called Olympus?
- 36:38I don't know. It was so good, I wish it was
- 36:41longer than one season. It was really good.
- 36:45So apparently if you are wondering what we're talking
- 36:47about, just Google Jeff Goldblum and Zeus and you'll find it.
- 36:51Yeah, right. So good.
- 36:52So that came back. There have been a couple of
- 36:54things that I think have been pulled through.
- 36:56I think the experience of watching things has really
- 37:00changed, whereas like the competition and the amount of.
- 37:06I don't think that they need to spend as much resources in
- 37:12producing and coming up with all of these things because people
- 37:15are, there's so much they can watch.
- 37:17They're not expecting very much. That's kind of how I feel.
- 37:20I feel like it's, there's just so many options.
- 37:23I'm it's not that I have to choose that there's just too
- 37:25many. I'm just spoiled with choice.
- 37:27There's just so many. I don't need to narrow it down
- 37:30to something that's great, something that's fine will work,
- 37:33right? Sure.
- 37:35But back in back in the 1900s when you had like 4 channels,
- 37:39you know, like you had to make sure whatever it was was.
- 37:41Or, you know, 25 or whatever the number was.
- 37:45Now there's like 1000. No, it's and.
- 37:48And. I mean, channels is one thing,
- 37:51but then it's. The whole of the Internet
- 37:53exists, right? Right.
- 37:54So the competition isn't as, there's a lot of it, but I think
- 37:58they don't need to work as hard. And I could be wrong.
- 38:01I'm sure there are people who would be like, no, they have to
- 38:03work even harder to get people. But I don't think that they need
- 38:06to develop the storylines in the same way.
- 38:09And also, I don't think that they maximize like they used to,
- 38:14cuz they were like, cool, we're gonna do eight seasons of this
- 38:17thing and it's gonna get crusty. Now they do just one or two and
- 38:21they're out, right? And I'm like, just, I would love
- 38:23a third season, please, you know?
- 38:25I do appreciate the short ones though if they're just telling a
- 38:28story and they tell it. Right.
- 38:30I like when I know when it says it's like Netflix says it's a
- 38:34limited yes, I like knowing that going in because then I'm like,
- 38:38I don't have to worry about it. But when it's a matter of Willie
- 38:41get picked up again and they don't know that before the end
- 38:44and they're kind of leaving a. Cliffhanger, One of the ones I
- 38:47liked got dropped and it's based on a book that I absolutely
- 38:50loved. Yeah, well, that's how it goes.
- 38:53That's how it goes. Well, so anyhow, so I certainly
- 38:57watched a lot of the Hercules shows with you.
- 39:01And while I think Hercules was a good character and I enjoyed the
- 39:06series only because it touched on a lot of the little stories
- 39:11that you know you would learn about with Greek mythology.
- 39:14Oily mussels. I've really he.
- 39:18Nice long blood. You know what I'm going to say,
- 39:20actually, if Kevin Sorbo is listening to this.
- 39:23I doubt it, but. I really doubt it.
- 39:26You know what? I'm going to not even listen to
- 39:28what Luke said. I would still want your
- 39:30autograph. Oh, OK.
- 39:32I would because you're a Minnesotan.
- 39:37I was still. I was still.
- 39:38I'm like, you know what? Cuz you did a good series back
- 39:41in the day. He did.
- 39:42It was entertaining. It was terrible, but it was
- 39:44good. It.
- 39:45Was not terrible. I mean, if you go back and watch
- 39:48some of that acting. Well, but it you know, it was
- 39:50what it was. It was what it was and I enjoyed
- 39:52it for what it was at this time. And that was before like we had
- 39:56all the CGI stuff. So they did some CGI though, or
- 40:00kind of maybe green screen. I have no idea what they did,
- 40:03but I do remember some of it. It just didn't necessarily look
- 40:06the realist. But.
- 40:07More importantly, what Hercules brought to me, OK, was Xena
- 40:12right like. Yeah.
- 40:14That was a great, great character.
- 40:17I didn't. Know that was what?
- 40:20I didn't know that was from Hercules, but OK.
- 40:21Yeah. Oh yeah.
- 40:22It spun off, you know, a warrior Princess, right?
- 40:25Like, sure, an Amazon, all these things.
- 40:28Yeah, I think was pretty great. Oh, that was one of his 12.
- 40:33Something about the Amazon Queen Hippolyta?
- 40:38Yeah, yeah. Something about her was one of
- 40:40his 12 laborers or. OK, not sorry.
- 40:45I don't remember. Anyhow, that's probably when
- 40:47they met. I don't know, because I don't
- 40:49actually think that I could be wrong.
- 40:51I don't remember ever learning about Xena in any of the Greek
- 40:55mythology stuff that I learned right.
- 40:57And right now, if I were to use my other device, I maybe would.
- 41:01But you know what? Where does the story come from?
- 41:04Who knows, Maybe there was some Amazonian Princess warrior who
- 41:10was also out there fighting around the same time that that
- 41:15Hercules was right and. Maybe sometimes I forget that
- 41:18the Amazons of legend preceded the naming of the Amazon itself,
- 41:23like the rainforest. Yeah, yeah.
- 41:24Anyway. And that they were like Greek
- 41:27four years and they were all women.
- 41:28And yeah, anyway, yeah, Wonder Woman came from there.
- 41:32Yeah, there's a lot of tight, tight related things in there
- 41:36that I do like. But I mean, why wouldn't Aries
- 41:41have a daughter? Why not?
- 41:43Why wouldn't that be a story that could have happened and why
- 41:45wouldn't someone else then, you know, talk about a great story
- 41:49of this, of this woman who, you know, also did all of these
- 41:52wonderful things and saved people for whatever reason, but
- 41:56also was like able to fight and all of those things.
- 42:00Why wouldn't you? You have gods and goddesses who
- 42:04have these abilities and, you know, the concept of
- 42:07worshipping, you know, a God because they're maybe they're, I
- 42:10don't even know how you decide that.
- 42:11Like, is it if you're a person and you're in Greek, you know,
- 42:15like back in the day, how you decide?
- 42:17Back in Athens. Back in Athens, you know, like
- 42:20just sitting there, you know, with your toga, how do you
- 42:23decide like which God? I mean, are you born into this?
- 42:26Is the God who you worship? Or are you like, I'm totally
- 42:31into love, so Aphrodite, that's who I'm going to worship or I'm
- 42:37super into war. So let's go find Aries.
- 42:41Like how did I I that's something I wonder.
- 42:44And maybe after this I might research, but I also might not.
- 42:48So, you know, if anyone wants to hold me to it, ask me in the
- 42:53comments. You know, Amber, did you ever
- 42:56figure out why people had the gods that the temples of the
- 42:58gods that they went to? I don't know.
- 43:01I don't know. Great question.
- 43:03Leaving it out there may get answered, may not.
- 43:06If you know the answer, you can shoot that too.
- 43:07But anyhow, so I really, I really, I appreciated a lot of
- 43:12the stories with Hercules, but. But boom boom boom.
- 43:17I think Hercules, you know, I mean, kind of set up well in
- 43:23life, right? Like if you if you think about
- 43:25it, he had a great mom who raised him right, you know, but
- 43:30he also had all these great powers.
- 43:33I mean like this dude was privileged.
- 43:35Stepmother tried to kill him for his entire life.
- 43:37OK. And.
- 43:39Queen, Queen of the Gods. Nothing.
- 43:40OK, I'm sorry. Who are you're?
- 43:42Privileged don't have struggle. OK, OK.
- 43:46You know, I'm just saying he had a lot of things that a lot of
- 43:49people didn't have which could help aid him in his journey of
- 43:52doing good, which is great. It made him be more effective in
- 43:56the stories of a journey of doing good.
- 43:59Yes, which I think is nice, but I, I, I'd have to think about a
- 44:05lot of Greek mythology is there's a lot of, there's a word
- 44:14I'm looking for and I'm probably not going to find it, but there
- 44:18is a lot of like sadness and darkness and tragedy.
- 44:25That's the word I was looking for is tragedy.
- 44:27Sure, there's a lot of tragedy in there.
- 44:29And I think that that's a lot of, of it is just a lot of
- 44:33lessons of things not to do or ways to ensure, you know, it
- 44:39just just, you know, don't do that, don't do that, right?
- 44:42Like we have it today with a lot of our nursery rhymes and stuff.
- 44:45Like essentially you learn, you know, don't talk to strange
- 44:47wolves in a walking down, you know, walking while you're going
- 44:51to your grandmother's house. Like that's a lesson.
- 44:53You shouldn't do that, right? So there was a lot of that in
- 44:57Greek mythology. So I think considering that was
- 45:01more prevalent, I think that I, I kind of wanted, I like looking
- 45:06into that side and not shying away from it, right?
- 45:08Like we love the glory stories we do, but life's complicated
- 45:14and I think even though I'm so glad I did not live back during
- 45:19that time, holy buckets. Yeah, talk about privilege.
- 45:24Look at us now. Right.
- 45:24Look at us now. I know.
- 45:27I think that keeping in mind what people had to live with and
- 45:32endure every day while a lesson of hope is really important, but
- 45:36like daily, what about what do I need to know?
- 45:38How am I going to get by all of those things?
- 45:40I think the tragedy might have had held more importance for
- 45:44folks in in all of that. So, so then I think about, OK,
- 45:50what character do we know who is really, you know, larger than
- 45:58life? I mean, really like still, still
- 46:00thought of today. So powerful in many ways and and
- 46:05what what has a deeper meaning that maybe what's on the surface
- 46:09maybe OK, I know that's disputable, but my favorite
- 46:14character, not God or goddess. Like I get it.
- 46:18We're we're narrowing in is of course Medusa.
- 46:24Hence the shirt. Hence the shirt.
- 46:26This shirt happened well before this topic ever came up for
- 46:29discussion. And I like Medusa for many
- 46:33reasons, but she's she's striking in many ways.
- 46:40Like, I mean, she's. Snakes on the head, after all.
- 46:43Snakes on the head. Yeah, but like, I mean, there's
- 46:46a couple of different stories and I like 1 version better than
- 46:51the other. And of course I do.
- 46:52That's gonna be the one that I'll hold on to.
- 46:54But regardless of anything, you know, I mean, she was she was a
- 46:57monster, right? And all she really just kind of
- 47:02needed to do was be left alone as the monster character, right?
- 47:06OK, she had sisters. I.
- 47:09Think were they also snake headed?
- 47:11Yes, and she was the only mortal one and they were immortals, but
- 47:16that's one version. Why was she the only immortal?
- 47:19I don't know cuz she was like nobody like that one.
- 47:22No one do. So Medusa, I don't know, she
- 47:25wasn't favored. And that's the thing too, that
- 47:27was really unfair, right? During Greek mythology is there
- 47:30be favored ones? Yeah.
- 47:31And it was like why? I don't know why this one wasn't
- 47:33favored. No good reason whatsoever.
- 47:36Just you weren't born right or you know, whatever it is.
- 47:40I just don't like you, which I find really fascinating cuz you
- 47:44could not be today. I mean, you could, but could you
- 47:47imagine a parent being like, I just don't like that kid.
- 47:50You know, in a lot of the older stories they talk about the
- 47:52favored child. Yeah, yeah.
- 47:55Like even in humans. Like right So.
- 47:58I've died off in the last 100 years or something.
- 47:59I don't know, I mean. 50 years anyway.
- 48:02Yeah. So it's just really interesting
- 48:04cuz you have the favored ones, all of that.
- 48:06So, so regardless of that portion, I think it life might
- 48:10have been tragic for her in the fact that she didn't have the
- 48:13same powers as her sisters, if that's where she began.
- 48:16Now there's the whole other story and it's every, it is a
- 48:21later story and I accept that it's a later story, but it is
- 48:25still a, an origin story of Medusa.
- 48:29And that would be of how she became Medusa and a poet, it was
- 48:35a Roman poet actually had written her story as how he had
- 48:39seen it and he had seen or how he had the.
- 48:41Name of the poet. No, don't ask.
- 48:43I don't know. Sorry.
- 48:44It's low I. Retract my question.
- 48:46Why would you ever ask a question about who for me like
- 48:49for you? Sure.
- 48:50I mean the poet. George, I don't know.
- 48:52Probably not. I don't know.
- 48:54Oh, that other guy. Never mind.
- 48:59I'm not gonna get there. But.
- 49:00But he was on full house. I feel like he might.
- 49:02No, he wasn't Roman. He was anyhow.
- 49:05Doesn't matter. What's his name?
- 49:06Wow. Doesn't matter.
- 49:07Nope. So what She.
- 49:11It's gonna come to me tonight at like 2:00 in the morning.
- 49:14I'm gonna shout out John Stamos, that's who.
- 49:18I was saying. Wow.
- 49:20OK, we. Have our first John Stamos
- 49:22reference. It is.
- 49:23There we go. Yeah, there you go.
- 49:25So when I wake up at 2:00 in the morning shouting, you're going
- 49:28to know it's not. I'll probably sleep right
- 49:31through. It you probably will anyhow.
- 49:33So what I really the the version I like because it is so
- 49:39realistic to the stories is that this beautiful maiden went to go
- 49:46worship her God or goddess at the temple.
- 49:51And when she was there, tragedy befell her.
- 49:55OK, She's there doing her right thing.
- 49:58Like, OK, got you. I got you, Athena.
- 50:00We're good. I'm like, praise, praise to you,
- 50:03praise to you. And then this other slimy dude
- 50:06named Poseidon was like, oh, you're cute.
- 50:11I like you. And she's like, no, I'm here for
- 50:14my goddess. And he's like, I don't care.
- 50:17I'm taking advantage of the fact that you're here and I will have
- 50:21my way with you. That's messed up.
- 50:24Bro it's so messed up, it's so messed up.
- 50:27And as punishment, Athena gave Medusa her snakes and cursed
- 50:36her. All of that.
- 50:38Wait, Athena? I know it's really messed up.
- 50:41Right, punished. Yes, because here's the thing.
- 50:45Medusa. Here's the thing, you need to
- 50:47remember that the gods actually didn't care about people.
- 50:50That's true. They did not care.
- 50:52They were, yeah, mostly not. They needed the mortals for
- 50:55their worship, but that was it. Right.
- 50:57And they were very, very happy to smite people all the time.
- 51:01And they so like a lot of times they're like, oh, I'm not gonna
- 51:05hurt. Like they don't.
- 51:07They didn't think of people as people or whatever.
- 51:09They didn't think of them. They were toys, so.
- 51:12Athena was the goddess of war. War.
- 51:16No, there's lots of stuff but like.
- 51:21Battle, Yeah. Wasn't she an Archer?
- 51:24Fighting. Wasn't she like a hunter?
- 51:26Hunter. There you go, that's what it was
- 51:28anyhow. So to they didn't care about the
- 51:32humans really, but to get back at the other gods for their
- 51:37actions, their punishments would be towards the humans that
- 51:41they've decided are like their pets, right?
- 51:43Kind of like heroin after Hercules.
- 51:45Exactly. It wasn't that, you know, that
- 51:48Hera actually cared at all. About so Athena was like, oh,
- 51:51you think she's hot? Watch what I'm going to do.
- 51:53I'm giving her a snake head. Well, she's like, how dare you,
- 51:55Poseidon. Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 51:58Yeah, yeah, Do that in my. Now I will make your your little
- 52:02fling. Yeah, taking it away.
- 52:04Snake hair. Right, right.
- 52:06So, but I think that that's sadly sometimes just reality for
- 52:12people, right? Like that story in there is you
- 52:14can be doing everything right and forces outside of your
- 52:18nature can come on and change the trajectory of where you
- 52:21planned you were going, right? And so then at that point, you
- 52:26know, then where do you go? And are you really like, cuz
- 52:32after that regardless, either way you see the story regardless
- 52:35is she's just like seen as a monster.
- 52:38Yeah. You know, whether she started
- 52:40out as a monster or she was turned into a monster, she is
- 52:43seen as a monster by all around her.
- 52:45And she's like, I know, I don't, I know I'm a monster.
- 52:50So I'm going to go hang out by myself, like just leave me be.
- 52:53I'm not going to do anything bad.
- 52:55Because she wasn't sitting there like cursing in the world or
- 52:58anything like that. But she, she was like one of the
- 53:02things I think of and, and I'm sure many people don't, but I
- 53:04think that she was sitting there and she's like, I'm not ugly to
- 53:07me, You know, like every, the only time I'm ugly is when other
- 53:11people look at me, you know, and I kind of, you know, it's like
- 53:15it's how people see her that made her who she was.
- 53:18It wasn't who she was that made her who she was.
- 53:21So I, I just find her character so very, very fascinating and
- 53:27sad. However, there's so much
- 53:30strength in her character that I that I can't, I, I can't not
- 53:38pick Medusa as my favorite character either.
- 53:41Story you go if you go with what people call the original story
- 53:44or the story that is more frequently.
- 53:46Told either one she ends up just want to hide out either don't
- 53:49mess with me. Either one, she's not doing
- 53:51anything bad. She's just hanging out being.
- 53:53Snakeheaded. And then someone's like, hey,
- 53:57why do you go kill that thing? Oh, and then she turns him into
- 53:59stone. Well, yeah, she's not having it.
- 54:02Oh, let's capture that thing, that that monster, you that
- 54:04thing. And she's like, dude, just just
- 54:06leave me alone. Just leave me alone.
- 54:08I'd be good. And then Nope.
- 54:09Dude, you had to come. I didn't tell you to come.
- 54:12You had to come. I'm going to have to defend
- 54:14myself, right. Like it's like, that's, that's
- 54:16how I, you know, like I think that's how a lot of people are,
- 54:18is like, I I'm not going to go and attack you, but if you come,
- 54:21I'm here. Don't come on me.
- 54:24Don't step on me. I'll turn you into stone.
- 54:27And and unfortunately, as we all know, she she was destroyed by
- 54:33Perseus butt what I learned today, which I didn't know
- 54:36before, was after her head. And of course, the big story is
- 54:40that he would go around Perseus, walk around with her snake head
- 54:43and like, you know, it was a trophy and he killed things, you
- 54:46know, or turn things into stone, whatever.
- 54:47It still worked, Yeah. The head of the dead Medusa,
- 54:51yes, still functioned as a stone statue making object.
- 54:55Yes, yes. But not.
- 54:57But not like that, Like 'cause you could put it in a bag, cover
- 55:01it up, no one could see it, right?
- 55:02It's. Carrying head around that's
- 55:04that's weird they. Were weird anyhow, but out of
- 55:07her head. OK.
- 55:09Came two creatures. 01 is the Pegasus.
- 55:16What? And they're like, this is
- 55:18Poseidon's baby, a little Pegasus coming out of her.
- 55:21Out of her neck, a little Pegasus, and then there's
- 55:23another one that they have big Pegasus.
- 55:26Well, it ends up, yeah, being a big Pegasus, OK.
- 55:29And there's another one, and there's many different stories
- 55:31of what that other creature was, but it's the Pegasus sibling.
- 55:35It could have been a boar with wings, could have been a a
- 55:38human. Pegasus, That was good.
- 55:43Yeah, that is. Good.
- 55:44No there. Is a name and I can't pronounce
- 55:46it and I'm not gonna. That's right.
- 55:47But anyhow, though that's my favorite character, even though
- 55:51she ended tragically, she lives on because she was and that's
- 55:59that's what I've got. I mean, OK, I think we both made
- 56:03some pretty solid arguments tonight.
- 56:04I'm proud of ourselves. Yeah, yeah.
- 56:07That was a good one. We should do more Greek
- 56:09mythology because I enjoy it. We we might.
- 56:11I think we need more mythology in our podcast.
- 56:13I think we, yeah, I think we enjoy these little story
- 56:16rundowns. Plus, I'm almost for sure
- 56:18guaranteeing somebody out there is learning something.
- 56:21Yeah, yeah. Which is exciting if it is to
- 56:25Google on your own. That you could do that?
- 56:27Well, you gotta stop saying the word.
- 56:29Just search. Use the word search.
- 56:33That's all you gotta say. Yep, Yep.
- 56:35Well, that's that's the fight. The fight is who picked the
- 56:38better character. Yeah, obviously me with.
- 56:42Or which is the better character?
- 56:44Yeah. Which is better?
- 56:44Yeah, it doesn't matter. Yeah.
- 56:46Which one do you prefer and how did they vote for that Luke?
- 56:49Well, they would vote for me by going to Spotify in the poll and
- 56:56that's the best way that's possible.
- 56:58We still technically would take any social media submissions,
- 57:01it's just harder to keep track of them because we have too many
- 57:04of the socials. Comment everywhere.
- 57:07Sure, we love your comments, yes.
- 57:09And even if you think that maybe it's not the nicest comment, I
- 57:12have had some that I've really liked, you know, OK, even if
- 57:17they might not be, they're fun. I like it and I enjoy good
- 57:21ribbing and I enjoy ribbing him a little.
- 57:23So it that's true. So comment on our socials,
- 57:27comment in our on our. It's called the podcast.
- 57:32On Yeah. There you go.
- 57:34Podcast. It's a podcast.
- 57:36And then you should share this. Yes, definitely tell your.
- 57:40Friends. Yep, Yep.
- 57:41And then like it, rate it. All those things.
- 57:45If you have an idea you want us to discuss.
- 57:48If you're in Chile and you want to tell your neighboring
- 57:51countries, I mean, we'll take them.
- 57:52Yeah, yes, please. Or your neighbors within your
- 57:55country. Yeah.
- 57:57But anyhow, then yeah, just catch us wherever you catch us.
- 58:02And if you have an idea, write to us.
- 58:05Yeah. At arguing.
- 58:06A letter. In gmail.com, it doesn't matter
- 58:10writing, whether it's via e-mail or what have you, or if you're.
- 58:13I just, like they always say, write a letter.
- 58:15But you're right. I'm sorry.
- 58:17OK, If you had snakehead, you'd turn me to stone right now,
- 58:21wouldn't you? I would.
- 58:22I mean. I don't.
- 58:24Knowallrightarguingeverafter@gmail.com I'm sorry.
- 58:28Thanks so much. See you next time, bye.
- 58:37I just want to do my own thing. I just want to do my own thing.
