- 0:18The Turn Glorious podcast tutters Arbnik. You here with the code of free take.
- 0:22Austin will be joining here. I'm sure any second hell, there he
- 0:28is, and Austin not yet. Anyways, he'll jump in here. Huskers
- 0:42lose to Wisconsin twenty two, twenty four to seventeen at whatever the hell the
- 0:49final score was, I don't remember, but we lose again in a different
- 0:55way, in a heartbreaking fashion and overtime, and we have one game left
- 1:02to get to a ball against Iowa. This I'm still trying to figure out
- 1:07how the hell I lost Huskers plus seven bet makes no sense? Or no,
- 1:11no, I didn't lose. I pushed. That's one of the worst
- 1:14pushes I've ever had in my life. Well, at least you got it
- 1:18at seven, because I know the line moved a lot throughout the week.
- 1:22Yeah, I checked earlier days four and a half. What the hell happened?
- 1:26They pushed the seven. I was like, I gotta take this.
- 1:27They found out Pardi was starting QB and they thought that was no bueno for
- 1:33the Huskers. But they tell you what, guys, Prey kind of looked
- 1:37good. He did, he did, I was and you know why he
- 1:42looked good. He didn't turn the ball over. Yeah, he turned it
- 1:45over on the last throw of the game, whatever, but he didn't turn
- 1:49it over. And for the first time and quite a few games, guys,
- 1:56I can say we really didn't beat ourselves. Wisconsin just beat us.
- 2:02I think, I agreed, like it just came down to at the end
- 2:07of the game. They just were physically a little bit better than we were,
- 2:10and they executed better. Their quarterback was better than our quarterback. That's
- 2:14kind of what it then coming down to. I think you went way way
- 2:19too conservative after fourteen Oh, okay didn't Yeah, I I the word conservative.
- 2:28I thought you were going to prefer to the last drive. Well that
- 2:31too, but but yeah, I do think that that we did go a
- 2:38little more conservative. But part of me was like, okay, like we
- 2:40have a fourteen oh lead, Like start this game over, like we're handicapped
- 2:44fourteen points and let's play from there. But unfortunately, yeah, Wisconsin just
- 2:49kept coming at us, coming at us again, and we just could not
- 2:52score and late in the game that last drive. Block management, I think
- 3:00is the big topic of conversation this week, as it was last week,
- 3:04but now it's for the opposite reason, exactly what do you want him to
- 3:07do? Last Now, different scenarios. I'll admit, you know, last
- 3:12week it was tied. This week we were down three. But if he
- 3:17goes out there and he throws the ball and it gets turned over, you're
- 3:21roasting him for not running the ball three times and not kicking the field goal
- 3:23to tie it to go to overtime. There was no winning in this scenario.
- 3:29I personally, when I was watching it, I was a little frustrated
- 3:31because I was like, why are we taking this time out after burning twenty
- 3:36five seconds? If you were going to take the time out, take the
- 3:38time out sooner. That was my thought. That was the opinion I had
- 3:46where I was watching it. I was actually like totally okay. I'm like,
- 3:50oh my god, Chubb a Purry, just let us down on this
- 3:52last drive. Just get a freaking field we'll go to overtime. And yeah,
- 3:54we had a couple of runs with a couple of plays, but my
- 3:58mind, my brain was so convinced that we're probably going to turn over or
- 4:03do something stupid, so I just wanted to kick the field goal. And
- 4:08you're right that scenarios are different. Tie game versus being down. But the
- 4:15our offense was clicking. There was that part of it. It's like we
- 4:17just marched down the field. I think we can get this if we did.
- 4:20If we did, but I I still just wanted to be conservative and
- 4:25kick like I actually with it. I love. A lot of people are
- 4:28upset with it, but it is a little bit confusing. I get at
- 4:31different scenarios. But you're right, you Jubba throws a pick there. Everybody
- 4:36is so pissed off that what the hell we didn't learn from last week?
- 4:40All we had to do was be conservative, field goal and tie and go
- 4:43to That's exactly what would have been said. So we did go the other
- 4:48route, and it was more conservative. We made the field goal, barely
- 4:51went to overtime, where we can talk about that we're not very good in
- 4:56overtime, but didn't did not go well again in Wisconsin. So here here's
- 5:02all of that. I will say, I was not upset with how we
- 5:05handled the clock. Besides, I agree taking the time out if to potentially
- 5:10run two more plays and now I'm not saying take shots at the end zone,
- 5:13we could have maybe ran the ball more a couple one more time or
- 5:16just had had one or two more play opportunities. It's not saying being aggressive,
- 5:21it's just saying, get a couple more. Give it, give it,
- 5:25Give Johnson one more runks. He was running the ball really well.
- 5:28You know, just take if you're gonna take that time out, take it
- 5:30twenty seconds sooner you can do one more run play. We still had basically
- 5:33one time out because we ended the game with one time out. Correct we
- 5:36had one on our inn. I think, well maybe we did. I
- 5:40don't remember. We might have one left. Yeah they had one and we
- 5:44had one or we had But what I was most disappointed with from that situation
- 5:48was how Real handled in the press conference another week where I just was not,
- 5:54guys, there's something about us losing now and facing some adversity again later
- 6:00in the year that that the stress and the pressure of being the coach Nebraska
- 6:05is getting to Matt Rule. His comment about that drive was, well,
- 6:10I had a ton of people telling me that last year or last week we
- 6:13should have did this, So this week I decided to do this. I
- 6:15don't know if that's exactly what he said. He was one hundred percent deflecting,
- 6:19not saying on the fans but on people that were doubting his decision,
- 6:24he was deflecting it back on saying, well, people told me this.
- 6:29Now, yeah, I think getting out in front of he's like, he's
- 6:32like, I know we're gonna get shipped for how he handled that last play,
- 6:35but it's the exact opposite of what we did last week. And that's
- 6:39my point. That's my point. The point is that he's actually he thinks
- 6:42he has to defend himself again. He thinks he happened. But I'm fine
- 6:46with him pushing back on the media. See the media. It's not the
- 6:49media it is. It is he's letting he's letting outside influences impact his decision
- 6:55making. And I don't think that's true. I don't think he was like
- 7:00last week. I think he was thinking, last week we got down here,
- 7:04we threw an interception and I don't want to do that again. But
- 7:06I don't think he was like, people gave me crap for doing this last
- 7:10week, So why do you make the comment. He made the comment because
- 7:13that's what he's going to hear. And after the game, they asked the
- 7:15question kind of like that's like the question was like, so last week he
- 7:19did this this week we did that, and he's like, yeah, you're
- 7:21right, last week we did do this. Okay, Yeah, And he
- 7:24could have answered that way. He answered it by saying I was getting told
- 7:29by people like he didn't. That is not what he said. Read the
- 7:32quote. Go read the quote. I watched it, and he was not
- 7:34like I was being told by people this week. Well people quote exactly says
- 7:39that I was being or I was told by people that what was made last
- 7:43year last Yeah, but you're inflecting it wrong. You're you're reading, you're
- 7:47reading out of context. Yes, he's not like last week I was told
- 7:51this song. Yeah, I didn't say you said it that way, but
- 7:54that that's the worst you do that. That's what you inflected it as though.
- 7:58That's Dak just gave me a thumbs up somehow. What up? I
- 8:05didn't even know what. I just think. I what I what I've gotten
- 8:11from rules last two or three press conference is he is letting outside forces impact.
- 8:20It's coaching like at a high level. Is at a high level,
- 8:22I feel like there's stress and pressure getting to him already at the end of
- 8:26your one I don't think that's true. Did you watch the press conference or
- 8:31you just read the quotes. I watch it. I watched it. Yeah,
- 8:35you definitely. He was just basically saying he was like, so last
- 8:37week I was told this, but you know, we did this this week,
- 8:41so I'd probably be told the other way. I don't think he's letting
- 8:43that impact his decisions. I think he's just addressing it because that's what he's
- 8:46gonna hear all week, because he heard it all last week. So he's
- 8:50just saying it. He's just getting out in front of it that. You
- 8:52don't think his decision to be conservative this week had anything to do with last
- 8:56week. I think I don't think it's how people are responding. I think
- 9:00is because we threw a fucking interception in the end zone last week and lost
- 9:03the game. So you think you think that maybe we learned last week.
- 9:07So on the flip side, after this week, do you think that there
- 9:13was anything learned Chubb's are starting quarterback. No, from the decision making,
- 9:20oh, from decision making from the from the end of the game. Basically,
- 9:24what I'm saying, are we going to be aggressive or conservative next time?
- 9:26In a similar situation in the fourth quarter, I think hm hmm.
- 9:35In a similar situation, I think we'd probably do the same thing. I
- 9:39think we'd still be conservative with conservative yeah, okay, with our current roster,
- 9:45I think we'd be conservative. I think he learned his lesson last week.
- 9:48Like, hey, we went for the ball game, we turned over
- 9:52it through interception. We're not ready for that. Okay. I hope you're
- 9:56right on that. I really do, because I think there's a lot lot
- 10:00of Husker fans that are pissed off the way we handled the the clock management.
- 10:07And I was like the room I was sitting in, everybody was like,
- 10:09go score. I'm like, why we're gonna turn it over? Like
- 10:11don't, don't stop, Like we'll just kick the field, go good overtime.
- 10:16Like I just it is a conservative mindset, But that comes down to
- 10:18trusting your quarterback. It does. And like Shobba played better right than probably
- 10:26what was expected of him, and probably one of the better quarterback performances we've
- 10:30seen this year from any of them. But at the same time, like
- 10:33it's still Chubb a purty, like we know what we're getting with him.
- 10:39That there were fewer designed runs for Shova, and I don't know if that's
- 10:41a product of the groin injury. And I'm not going to reaggravate it,
- 10:45but I didn't feel like you don't. Don't get me started on one of
- 10:48the designed runs. Fucking bone headed sadder field. The one option play you
- 10:54run is an overtime You say it, the whole game run over time you
- 10:58run the short side of the field. Idiot. That was an idiot.
- 11:01The overtime situation. Let's actually move to that because that I think I saw
- 11:07someone tweet since we fired both Polini and won and over we won an overtime
- 11:13against Iowa. Then that next week we fired both Polini. We have not
- 11:18scored an overtime. I think was it was like, we have not done
- 11:22anything in overtime since that, we haven't won it over. You have like
- 11:26twenty four yards in overtime since you fired Bopolini. Yeah, so that's not
- 11:30even eight nine overtimes since then. Yeah, that's the name of the yards
- 11:33need to gain for a touchdown in eight overtimes. It's not good. Like
- 11:37how many times the overtime rules since the last time we've won an overtime three
- 11:43times? Yeah, it's funny. I was explaining that the people in the
- 11:50room that didn't know what the overtime rule was after a second overtime third over
- 11:52to They're like, when did that change? And I'm like, well,
- 11:54we've never gotten to that point ever because we always lose in the first round,
- 12:00right, but yeah, it's one and done. What okay? What
- 12:05doc through? I guess what is your guys' overtime strategy? Like what?
- 12:09I think that that is a big part of coaching that, Yeah, it
- 12:11doesn't happen every game, might happen once a year. Obviously, college is
- 12:15different than pro. You have the option to take the ball or defend first,
- 12:20and then I think between getting a field goal on touchdowns and others,
- 12:24like what is your strategy going into overtime? On the same page, well,
- 12:31given the situation that we had to score a touchdown, like from the
- 12:37get go, from the coin toss, from the coin toss, I haven't
- 12:41I don't know if I here's my thought on the deferring. Obviously you wanted
- 12:46to first, you know you have to get but then you have the pressure
- 12:48of having to score. If they score, I think you still defer for
- 12:52defense, and then I honestly think you just run your same offense. You're
- 12:56at the twenty five in theory you could kick a feel goal. You just
- 13:01can't get name of plays on the first down. So I think you run
- 13:05a Saint run play up the middle and hope to get at least a couple,
- 13:09if not, maybe break it for a bigger one, which I feel
- 13:11like we were running the ball up the middle actually pretty well, we're actually
- 13:13getting to part in the yards. That right there is where I totally agree
- 13:16with you, is there's you also get four downs in that situation. Yes,
- 13:24so that I'm glad you brought that up. Our first play call is
- 13:31a speed option where you're going backwards already and with a pitcher going backwards right.
- 13:35Your second play call is a Scott Frost swing pass that we ran earlier
- 13:39in the game, and we have not proven or shown that we can really
- 13:43block out there, and that goes for a lost And now we're sitting in
- 13:46third and forever get four downs and those were our first two play calls and
- 13:54whatever. So yeah, if you get the ball first or second, I
- 13:56agree. I think there's conversation there what's best. But deferring is a safe
- 14:01option, right, You see what you don't get, But getting the first
- 14:03first down and overtime is absolutely huge. Both ways, because yeah, puts
- 14:09your field goal kicker out a shorter. I mean, you don't want to
- 14:11kick a forty two yard or you don't can they make it? Yeah,
- 14:13you don't want to do that. And second of all, then you're that
- 14:18much closer to the end zone and four downs. But again we go backwards
- 14:22negative yards and we saw how it ended up. Dak is already what else
- 14:26do you add the overtime situation. Well, I'm the deferring or taking the
- 14:33ball. I think it depends on your team too. Like if you're al
- 14:35Climber, USC, you don't give a shit about defense. You take the
- 14:39ball. But when Nebraska, they have a good defense, so you expect
- 14:43you're going to pry home the field goal and that's what you're you're probably expecting.
- 14:48So I like to defer and get the other so you know what you
- 14:52have to do. But like Austin said, it does put pressure on you
- 14:56if you have a lot of touchdown because then you're in the defense. No,
- 15:00then what they have to do too. But but yeah, back to
- 15:03the play calling. So the whole game, the whole game, what's working
- 15:09is you're running the ball up the middle, you're throwing throwing the work in
- 15:15the middle of the field was working. I don't know why we kept trying
- 15:16the outside. Oh my gosh, the number of freaking negative plays we got
- 15:20on the outside was just driving me nuts. Oh yeah, you gets old
- 15:24teen, You're like, fuck it, we're gonna change our playing game.
- 15:26We're gonna run four two plays that one of them didn't work, and one
- 15:30we haven't ran the whole game. I don't know what. You can see
- 15:33the swing pass from a mile away, like you're just like, it's like,
- 15:37oh no, this is happening, and you can see the guy in
- 15:41the back that you're like, don't do not Oh yeah, it was.
- 15:46I thought our defense too, had a really good shot of holding them on
- 15:54that third down. And it was third and eight maybe or third and seven
- 15:58or eight, and they just barely at that first down or maybe they marked
- 16:02my yard short than they got the first down later it they did. They
- 16:06did such a good job. I thought that they were going to get it
- 16:08done. It Ultimately, a guy need to step up and make a play
- 16:12there. I think on that pass play, I can't remember who the linebacker
- 16:15was dropped. It's a little bit too deep. It it's close again,
- 16:21it's going back to winning and finding finding a way to win and knowing how
- 16:23to win. And I think this group is doing a better job of that.
- 16:26But but we're still now five and six right and with the potential to
- 16:33be hopefully six and six, but five and seven after year one under rule.
- 16:37So I agree. Play calling, yeah, it was what it was.
- 16:41It wasn't great down the stretch, But it comes down to having a
- 16:48quarterback. I think that I'm not saying has to be an elak quarterback like
- 16:52I and I don't think this offense is ever going to be designed around a
- 16:59quarterback. But he needs to be serviceable enough to be able to make the
- 17:04plays when the time comes up. And you know what, I thought Chubba
- 17:07did that. I really do. I thought Chubbu, for what we needed
- 17:10him to do this this week, did a very good job of managing the
- 17:14game, knowing having good pocket awareness, knowing when when to go. Is
- 17:18Chubba the best passer in the world. No, but he made some good
- 17:22throws. Yeah, he might be the best one. And and I will
- 17:26always say this, quarterbacks at any level, there's so much of an element
- 17:33of surprise with a new quarterback. You can watch all the film you want
- 17:36on him from previous years or but until you see them game after game,
- 17:42you're going to get an element of surprise from a new quarterback. He saw
- 17:45it with Heiner Carver. Heck, you saw it with Jeff Simms to start
- 17:48the year two. How things kind of worked like there's some good things.
- 17:52But then once you get it on film and really good coaches know how to
- 17:56dissect quarterback find their weaknesses on the defensive end. And I mean, Shubba's
- 18:03got a couple of games left, but that's what I think happened with Heine,
- 18:07and we did catch some positive things that were Schubba this week that helped.
- 18:15But bottom line is we still didn't win and weren't able to do enough
- 18:19after getting up fourteen nothing. So let's go back to the first quarter.
- 18:23I'd say the first quarter is the happiest I've been as a Husker fan,
- 18:26Husker football fan all season. Well, we're Wisconsin, Wisconsin radio. That
- 18:30was my first quarter. That was something. Yeah, why were you that
- 18:36first I was drawing backward Thanksgiving? Oh yeah, it sucked. Why did
- 18:41you choose Wisconsin with your radio not Nebraska? We were in the dead middle
- 18:45of Kansas, so we cannot find Nebraska and those guys are born Wisconsin,
- 18:48but you found Wisconsin. Yeah, and it sucked. We were in terrible,
- 18:55terrible radio announcers. Honestly, the TV announcers weren't great. If I
- 18:57had to hear them talk about how Tanner Morrik I was bringing Allen I was
- 19:02gonna. I almost turned it on mute, like I cannot listen to this.
- 19:06Did you know Chubble Party is related to Brock pretty no, ship my
- 19:08god? Who was the TV announcers? Uhdolph, No, it was the
- 19:17head guy who think it was the Eagles kid. I am Eagles kid.
- 19:22And yeah, yeah, Todd Blacklich was the first guy I knew him.
- 19:29I didn't really the Eagle, I knew his last name. But yeah,
- 19:32the first quarter, guys, I got a trap again, think, oh
- 19:36my god, like we might just have better players in Wisconsin. We we
- 19:40looked good. It might be the better team, and and our defense looked
- 19:44good. Chubbo was looking like you should have been our starting quarterback the whole
- 19:49year. And then it was very much real back in as the game went
- 19:55along, it was Tanner Murdock had running. That's what killed us. Yes,
- 20:00I thought warded Oklahoma. I don't know where he where. He could
- 20:07run now, but he couldn't move it all at Oklahoma, so I don't
- 20:10know where that came from. Desperation is handster. I thought our defense played
- 20:18okay, still, they still had a solid game. I do. I
- 20:22do think the Mordecai thing caught us very much off guard. And I haven't
- 20:27looked at his stature and knew what he did coming in, but I don't
- 20:30think he is much of a runner. I don't think you guys are wrong
- 20:33on that. Like I think he truly actually made some really good plays with
- 20:37his legs that hurt us. And we haven't really faced too many quarterbacks that
- 20:41have been able to do that, and the ones that have, like Hudson
- 20:45Card, we were very We had it very well scouted, like we knew
- 20:48that's what he wanted to do, so our game plan was centered around that
- 20:51and a lot of the times that he had the big runs was we had
- 20:53a guy hit him in the backfield who just didn't tackle. There were a
- 20:56couple of times where we were we had arms hit Mrdecaia, but then he
- 21:00would we didn't get him down. He ripped off an eighteen year run.
- 21:03That was the biggest takeaway on the defensive end was our tackling was the worst
- 21:07I've seen it this year, and it's gone downhill since start of the year.
- 21:12It has that. That's what's hurt us the most, I think was
- 21:18has been mistackles. And what sucks is I thought we had that problem fixed
- 21:21and everything was looking better with this new defense and system and scheme. But
- 21:26again, you get something on film and you start scheming around it, guys,
- 21:33And that's ultimately what is it. That's coaching, right, that's coaching.
- 21:36That is coming up with the game plan, developing whatever the other team's
- 21:38doing, coming up with counters, coming up with alternative strategies, putting in
- 21:44new stuff that's not already in like that is all part of coaching. And
- 21:48when it gets to late in the year, I think that's what rule talks
- 21:51about, how the end of the year games are the most important. Are
- 21:52we getting better as players? Are we developed? Second? As a coaching
- 21:56staff, are we are we doing those things to make sure we are out
- 22:02coaching the other staff? I would say we probably got out coached this game
- 22:07by by Luke Fickle and staff. And whether the coaching staff realizes or not,
- 22:12Like I hope they do, because I think that's what happened. We
- 22:15didn't beat ourselves. We didn't we didn't turn it over. It wasn't our
- 22:19players fucking up and putting the ball on the turf. For Yeah, maybe
- 22:23we missed a few tackles here or there, but was not a bright spot
- 22:29this game. Good, good point, but it just it just felt like
- 22:32we didn't really beat ourselves too much this week compared to previous weeks. Now,
- 22:37yeah, special teams was an eighteen yard punt from there whatever or from
- 22:41our twenty five is what I don't remember exactly where we're it's pretty freaking close.
- 22:47And he's benous this year. He's been bad, been very poor,
- 22:53and I for the team that we have, it needs to be good.
- 22:57It can't just be average. It needs to be good. I agree.
- 23:00When you rely on defense, you need a punter that can flip the field.
- 23:06Who was your third down nightmare? That wide receiver that just kept killing
- 23:10you on third downs? Paul or yeah, Paul right, yeah, whatever,
- 23:15Yeah, he got knocked down and came back in and killed you again.
- 23:17Yep, yup, couldn't seem to get up the field. When we
- 23:21needed to as well. It was just little things. I think that again
- 23:26you add them all together, that's what loss is the game. And you
- 23:29mentioned Braylan Allen. Guys, Braylen Allen is still a really good running back.
- 23:33And it's not that he I think he was twenty two rushes for like
- 23:37sixty seven yards at but what he does is he gets two extra yards instead
- 23:44of it being second and nine at second and seven, or instead of it
- 23:45being third and five, it's third and three. Like, he just finds
- 23:48a way to get those extra two yards to put him in more manageable situations.
- 23:52And he did that so many times it's not really noticed because it doesn't
- 23:56move the chains or it's not a big breakthrough run. But he's a tough
- 24:00ass runner. He's a good running back for a reason, and arguably one
- 24:04of the best running backs in the Big ten country I mean country. Yeah,
- 24:10coming into the coming into the year, he was one of the best
- 24:11of the country. So like that little piece there, adding up all these
- 24:17other little things we're talking about, like, that's what ultimately costs you a
- 24:21football game and not let you win, and and that that I think the
- 24:26staff probably hopefully realizes that stuff, But that that was that. As I
- 24:33was thinking back on the game and laying in bed last night, I'm like,
- 24:36what, just like, why do we lose this game? Like,
- 24:38what's the reason? We've done that a lot over the past few years.
- 24:41What happened here? Like? Nothing big stuck out to me? There wasn't
- 24:45There wasn't big plays or big moments that I'm like, God, this is
- 24:49what lost? Is that game? This It was a culbination of a lot
- 24:52of little things. The especial team stuck out to me after that, Yes,
- 24:59but it it wasn't as bad as what we've seen as bad could be
- 25:03from Special teams. Like, yeah, but the punt was horrible. We
- 25:06missed a field goal. But it's not like we were zero for three on
- 25:08field goal. It's not like we muffed a punt. It's not like we
- 25:11had a Remember we had a what was that one punt? Go like seven
- 25:14yards one game? Yeah, Like we've had those before. So yeah,
- 25:18eighteens not good? Was better than seven So like, yeah, special teams
- 25:22was the worst. I agree, but it was a bunch of little things.
- 25:26I'm like, this, well, this happened, this happened, this
- 25:27happened. Yeah, I guess ye had all those things up. You probably
- 25:30don't win a football game that way. So that was where my takeaway was
- 25:33after the game, which is a little bit different way of losing, right,
- 25:37not beating yourself, but ultimately still it results in nell on the scoreboard.
- 25:42But you can fix the little things that it's It's reassuring to me,
- 25:48how about this. After the game I felt, I didn't feel I didn't
- 25:51feel happy by any means, but you can clean up the little things.
- 25:56It Once you start losing by the little things, it means you've cleaned up
- 25:59the big things. Having no turnovers, I was like, we've They were
- 26:03like, all right last week they probably were like, all right, we're
- 26:06fucking done turning over the ball. And then we didn't turn over the ball,
- 26:10obviously ignoring the last interception. But I think that's just I would it's
- 26:15good that we're losing by the little things because that means that we've we're cleaning
- 26:19up the big things and we can clean up the little things that just take
- 26:22It just takes time. I hope, I I agree, and I hope
- 26:26that we do like we have cleaned the big things up. I think it
- 26:30was one game that we've seen now of that way and yeah, you play
- 26:36like this, we we do win. I mean, I think this is
- 26:37kind of how we played against your Illinois Northwestern and won those games, right,
- 26:41And I think you play this way against Michigan State, you probably win.
- 26:44You play this way against Maryland last week, you probably win. We
- 26:48knew Wisconsin was going to be one of the toper teams in Wisconsin's down.
- 26:52Yes they're not. They're not. They're still five or five like they're not
- 26:57Dawn. So it is an They're one of those teams that you've got to
- 27:02do the little things right to win, and it is promising. We got
- 27:06rid of big glaring mistake issue that being turnovers. But yeah, I was
- 27:12after the game that I was not like damn it, Like it was like,
- 27:17okay, we didn't turn it over. And I said it, if
- 27:19we go these next two games without turning it over and still lose them,
- 27:22like okay, like I'll be I'll be like damn. But we did it
- 27:27one game. I'm not counting that last pass at all. We did it
- 27:30one game where we really didn't beat ourselves. But see if we can do
- 27:33it against Iowa, who's really going to capitalize on anything that we do mess
- 27:38up. And this was arguably the first game where I actually noticed this having
- 27:41penalties, Like I really haven't felt that the whole season, but this was
- 27:47the first game where it's like, oh, we got a fall start like
- 27:49that happened like three times. It's like, well then it happened. Yeah,
- 27:55they weren't great. I guess that's one angle of saying good, we
- 28:02fix the big things and not the little but maybe the best. The negative
- 28:04side of that is these little things are popping up again where they haven't showed
- 28:10maybe last time. Have they not shown because they've been overshadowed by the big
- 28:15glaring issues, or have we actually been pretty clean besides turning the ball over?
- 28:19I guess I don't know the answer to that. Did you guys about
- 28:25shuit yourself after off the foot of that game time field goal? Because I
- 28:30thought right off the foot, I was like, oh fuck, he miss
- 28:33that Nick curl back in. Oh yeah, that thing was a knuckle.
- 28:36I mean it was wobbling. I thought that was going dead right. I'm
- 28:42with you. I did not know, not think that was going in right
- 28:45but off his foot, but it did. Hallelujah. What does this mean
- 28:55here. I guess going into this week, does it change anything? Dak,
- 28:59sorry to say, I don't know if you just saw, but the
- 29:00Vikings already put it on the turf and turned it over. Yeah. I
- 29:03threw my hat as the second guy I saw that. That's God, damn
- 29:07it, the fuck does that play? Gault do? Do? What?
- 29:14What? What's our expectation? I guess going into the last game because I
- 29:17I think ultimately still making a bowl game is the goal here, and getting
- 29:26that extra week or month, month and a half practice is going to be
- 29:32huge. I also think that the Big Ten wants us to win this game
- 29:37really bad because Iowa's situation, they're set in stone. Regardless of this game,
- 29:44they're gonna go to the Big Ten title game, they're gonna get their
- 29:45ass kicked, and they're gonna play in the Capitol One Bowl or something like
- 29:49that. Is not gonna matter if they win or lose against us, and
- 29:52actually might even help the Big Ten if they lose, so they're not playing
- 29:56such a good team in a bowl game, so we don't get embarrassed with
- 30:00them in a bowl game. So the Big Ten actually wants us to win
- 30:03so we can get to a ball game, make more money. Obviously,
- 30:07our fans are going to travel to it. So if anybody says that the
- 30:11Rests are trying to screw us, they're not. The rest are gonna do
- 30:14everything they can to help us this game. The Big Ten wants us to
- 30:15win and go to a bowl game. I think we can beat Iowa.
- 30:22I mean they skate skated, but I can't believe they fucking won that game.
- 30:26I was incredible good find I hate them so much. How do they
- 30:32win these games? I want most of that game, obviously for the implications
- 30:36on our end. I got not one time. I'm like they're gonna lose
- 30:38this game. I didn't think that. I'm like, they'll find a way
- 30:41to win. It was third and six with like four and a half minutes,
- 30:44and like here comes the stripsack fumble or turn for a touchdown or it
- 30:48just you knew something's gonna happen. There you go, you have to get
- 30:51the ball back. There's a thirty eight yard run, broke up the middle,
- 30:53touchdown, Like find a way? How about the how about the gatorade
- 31:00bath? Double gatorade bath of Brian Ferrens. I'm not deserved, but you
- 31:06know that's okay, you're a dead man kind of like to make a wish
- 31:11kid, you know, give him his moment. Yeah you don't. You
- 31:18don't gotta worry about imposing quarterback this week. You you can let that dude
- 31:22throw it all over the field. He's a big dude, isn't he's He's
- 31:27one of the worst quarterbacks I've ever seen play. You guys see, you
- 31:32guys have a quarterback problem. Fair and did you guys see the over runner
- 31:38said at you, I think you're gonna set a record twenty seven and a
- 31:42half. It was higher than I thought it was gonna be. Yeah that
- 31:45that's way too high. It's and at what point they start putting Iowa on
- 31:52over runners like seventeen because they all go under. I mean, seriously,
- 31:56I thought I was gonna come out of like twenty three like it's supposed to
- 32:00be snowing too, I think or like like that. That's only gonna make
- 32:04it even more to the Yeah that that that that won't be my home first
- 32:12Baker type of game watching it. I'll just say that it's not gonna beautiful
- 32:16watch. Thanks thanks for letting everybody know that, Dack, it's not It's
- 32:20not gonna not gonna be in the third shout out to the volleyball team,
- 32:28though Big Ten champions as well as the women's soccer team made it to the
- 32:30Elite eight. Yeah, I didn't want to shout out the women's soccer team.
- 32:35I watch their game the other night, not SBM, plus I was
- 32:38like, we're making some noise in women's soccer. Then today I saw we
- 32:44won four nothing, So we're in the Elite eight. Baby, that's where
- 32:47your bathtball is gonna be too. Hey man, they looked freaking good.
- 32:52Yeah, they kicked ass. Ring Mass and Kaise One might have been right.
- 33:01There's a lot of pieces there. And I would even say Bryce Williams,
- 33:05like I enjoy watching him almost the most at all. I love watching
- 33:09rank and we knew what we had on a case. Uh, there's a
- 33:13lot of there's a lot of pieces on this team, and I do think
- 33:15the Big Ten. Not gonna say they're down, but they're They're definitely not
- 33:22the Big Ten that we're used to. And yeah, that was like the
- 33:24biggest takeaway I think from Saturday. And I was like, oh, like
- 33:30we might be okay. And Oregon State's not a powerhouse, but they are
- 33:34a power five team, and we were up thirty like early second half just
- 33:39look like yeah, we were like down to soh and then we just ripped
- 33:45off basically like a forty to twelve run or something. It was. It
- 33:50was very impressive, and I'm I'm I'm looking forward to watching this team like
- 33:54throughout the rest of the non conference here too, because we got some winnable
- 33:59games. And I do think, you know, beat beat a Creighton or
- 34:04Kansas State, You're sitting in a pretty good spot going into Big Ten play
- 34:08as far as the tournament resume goes. With obviously a strong record and then
- 34:14having to take care of business in the conference of winning I mean even half
- 34:17your games, I think you're you're looking okay going into the postseason. And
- 34:22I think that's what we're all after right now, right just yeah, obviously
- 34:28getting away. Just want balligibility and I want to get into the tournament.
- 34:32Such low bars, really, such low bars for any d one program.
- 34:37Yeah here we are. My Jink's your ballligibility. When I said fire the
- 34:44cannon's off, you're going bowling after they beat it Purdue? Yeah, you
- 34:49sure? Did? You know? The other thing I thought of and I
- 34:53actually thought of this, like when we lost to Michigan State, so it
- 34:58was a couple of weeks ago. I'm like, what if we lose out?
- 35:00Remember there are five and seven teams that still make bowl games? Like
- 35:06remember that that that happens, right, Like if they don't have enough full
- 35:09eligible teams to qualify. And there's so many freaking bowl games now, who
- 35:14knows how many forty one forty two for I don't know, there's a lot.
- 35:16Like it's not out of the realm of possibility that a five and seven
- 35:22Nebraska team could still make it. What could be really intriguing is will we
- 35:29want to go if we've lost? I mean, if we lose to Iowa,
- 35:32don't make it like it won't feel like quote unquote we deserve to go
- 35:36to a bowl game, right, We had every opportunity in four games and
- 35:38we blew it. But if we got invited, would we do because Frost
- 35:47declined that a couple of years right and that so which that was the three
- 35:52and five COVID year. Yeah, three and five like wasn't wasn't great,
- 35:59But yeah, got asked to go to a bowl game but declined it.
- 36:00Guys, we that's gonna that decision. If that happens a very small chance
- 36:05it probably does happen. But if it does, like, that's gonna tell
- 36:07us a lot about the staff because I'm with you, Austin, like we
- 36:10we need to go play in a bowl game and regardless situation, for the
- 36:14practice time alone, and we bet we better we better go play like it.
- 36:20Yeah, it'll be scary if we say that. No, like we
- 36:22don't deserve this, Like, no, I don't care if we deserve it
- 36:25or not. We need to practice for another practice and visibility, like there's
- 36:29no doubt to it outside of like, uh, we don't accept failure here.
- 36:34It's like, well, this isn't a reflection of how good your season
- 36:37win, No, it's just another practice. It's another another game, another
- 36:40opportunity to play. Yeah, totally in mind. I think just keep that
- 36:45in the back of your mind even if we do lose this week, because
- 36:47I think we forgot about that. The only reason why our remember is because
- 36:51we've been in that situation the past years. We're trying to get just the
- 36:53five wins because we're like, oh, at five wins, there's a sliver
- 36:57chance that we might get in by to do a bull game. That's happened
- 37:00in the past couple of years. So I think it comes down after you
- 37:07get all six six teams, and I think it comes down to academics.
- 37:09That's how they decide, like what schools have the best GPA or something like
- 37:13that. It's I don't know why that's how they decided, but that's actually
- 37:19have a decent gp Yeah, we all, we do. I don't.
- 37:22I never know the qualifications or what I do know. Like in general,
- 37:27bowl games get to pick like that. It's kind of like a draft of
- 37:30who you want. Right, you have your set conference teams and slots,
- 37:35and then you kind of draft from that in summer, just at large.
- 37:38But I don't know when it comes to who gets into the five and seven
- 37:42slots how that works. But all right, anything else going to nebrasketball lost
- 37:52again Nebraska USC in a bowl game, so we're all hoping for please please
- 38:02How was USC gun? Like I read that's that's Kile Williams last game.
- 38:07They took their bye week on week thirteen. Oh yeah, what the yeah?
- 38:14All right, right, we'll be back Wednesday. Thanksgiving. You go
- 38:19Bigred g v R School hun
