- 0:02Oi, Mr., is you my dead? Is you ready?
- 0:05Is you me dead? Is you me dead?
- 0:08Hello guys. We're back.
- 0:10We back, we're back. I am one year older since the
- 0:14last time you heard me. Brian is old.
- 0:17You tell her, put on a year. The grey hairs tell me
- 0:20everything I didn't know there. Is none I dyed it like the day
- 0:24of my birthday or the day after my birthday I.
- 0:27Did you really? I dyed the gate the grey away.
- 0:30You, you straight guys? No, I always expected it, you
- 0:37know? No, no, no, no, no.
- 0:40I dyed the grey away. I prayed the grey away.
- 0:43No. I'm of that age, I get grey hair
- 0:46and it's I'm not praying. Nope, Nope.
- 0:48Praying it away. I'm not praying anything away.
- 0:52So you dyed. Your hair.
- 0:53I didn't, no, I didn't even notice.
- 0:54I do. You don't notice that it's like
- 0:56extra black? No, I noticed today when I was
- 0:59looking in the mirror that it's a lot darker than like my beard
- 1:01hair, but that's fine. It looks the same to me.
- 1:04It's the lighting. It's it's the lighting.
- 1:06The bathroom lighting makes it more more drastic.
- 1:08The studio lighting in here isn't as potent.
- 1:11But I had a fantastic birthday weekend.
- 1:14I hope you did. I'm glad you did.
- 1:17Do you feel older? No.
- 1:20No, because every day you get older and then you just, you
- 1:23have that, that one day of the year that reminds you that
- 1:25you're one year older from that same day to last year.
- 1:28But yeah, day-to-day, pretty, pretty similar.
- 1:32So tell me about it. What did, What were the events?
- 1:34How are you feeling? What went through your head?
- 1:37Guys have so many lovely friends and I got to see so many of
- 1:40them. For my birthday, I went to a
- 1:44brewery and I invited my like a lifelong friends and then
- 1:48friends I've met in most more recent years.
- 1:51And it was like last year. I also like meshed friend
- 1:54groups. We did a San Diego trip, but
- 1:56this year it was like so many friends.
- 1:59The collab, like so many friends.
- 2:01Yes, it was fun. I was nervous going into it, but
- 2:06I listen. I pick and choose my friends.
- 2:09I know they're all great people and I would not put two people
- 2:12in a room together that I don't think would get along.
- 2:14And I think everyone had a great time by the end of the night.
- 2:18Like people who went to 'cause we had an after party, I'm still
- 2:21young enough for after parties. We went out dancing and everyone
- 2:25was like having a good time with each other.
- 2:26And dance they did. They did dance, I did dance,
- 2:30they did, they played. I kissed a girl.
- 2:34So I did as as Katy Perry says. You kissed a girl Many.
- 2:38You kissed a many girls. And some boys.
- 2:41I think I'm not. I think I think you did.
- 2:43You're not getting the allegations.
- 2:44Right. But that was fine.
- 2:48I got to celebrate with friends. Before that I celebrated with my
- 2:53family. I did have a work event the day
- 2:54of my birthday, but I had dinner with my mom, my brother and my
- 2:58stepdad and one of my Tia's and the guys.
- 3:01I have a ghost story. Please.
- 3:05So phoned in from my mom, Phoned in, not phoned in.
- 3:08I don't have something to tell you, but it's from her.
- 3:10To say yes. Phoned in so I don't She said
- 3:15that this is from years ago. I don't know why she hasn't told
- 3:18me before. Like she knows that I grew up
- 3:20watching Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventures Adventures because
- 3:23she would watch it with me. Yeah, we loved those shows, but
- 3:28she said a couple years back when she was living with my, my
- 3:33brother at the time was living with her and my stepdad and they
- 3:37live right now, they live like 2 blocks away from one Mike DS and
- 3:41my mom is always there. But during that time they did
- 3:44live like a city away, 2 cities away.
- 3:47Still not super far. It's like maybe a 15 minute
- 3:50drive. But she, we were talking about
- 3:52cemeteries and stuff for some reason, and she started talking
- 3:56about the Pomona some. I think it's a Pomona cemetery.
- 4:03Never been. It's in the middle of a
- 4:05neighborhood. Like it's not tucked away
- 4:07anywhere. It's not off to the side of the
- 4:08city. Like there's housing 360 all
- 4:12around it. It's like not far from where my
- 4:15mom used to live. Yeah.
- 4:15Imagine living. Right there.
- 4:17I will, I would love that. You probably got a house real
- 4:19cheap. And that's true.
- 4:20That's true. And who cares if you like sea
- 4:22coastal apparition? Their their home.
- 4:25That's where they live. That's where they live rent
- 4:26free. They paid upfront.
- 4:28True, it's expensive to buy a plotted land to get married in,
- 4:31by the way. Anyways, so she said she was
- 4:34driving home and they were driving past that direction.
- 4:37And at that point it was dark. But my mom said she was just in
- 4:42the passenger seat and it was a street that was relatively dark.
- 4:46But she saw a guy walking like all like bundled up like in a
- 4:50hoodie. My mom's like, it's so it's
- 4:53late. Like why are they are they
- 4:54walking so late at night with like their hood up?
- 4:56Like, uh huh. That's dangerous.
- 4:58Like, you're out here alone. You're all like, in black as
- 5:01your head covered. And she said while she was
- 5:04looking at him, she like, looked him down and she realized he had
- 5:07no legs. He was just a torso and loading,
- 5:11torso loading. And my mom said, no.
- 5:18My stepdad said, did you see that too?
- 5:21And my mom said, yeah. And my stepdad said he didn't
- 5:24have legs, and mom said she had chills go through her whole
- 5:29body, I bet. But the both of them said they
- 5:31saw a man walking down the street with no legs.
- 5:33You know, just floated. You know what's what's crazy is
- 5:381 scene that experiencing that your body like reacting to that
- 5:42because she was driving or or your mom was driving, right?
- 5:44No, she's passenger seat. Or passenger seat your stepdad
- 5:47was driving. But the like the the fear that
- 5:51comes with getting someone's like approval of like, I saw
- 5:56that too, like right away. It wasn't like a, oh, I saw it
- 5:59first and then you saw now you guys saw it at the same time,
- 6:00you guys saw the exact same thing.
- 6:02And then you realize we just saw that.
- 6:04Like what are your next steps? Yeah, you realize your mind is
- 6:07not playing tricks on you because someone else saw the
- 6:09exact same thing that you did. A floating torso with a hoodie
- 6:13covering its face. Just walking down, floating down
- 6:16the street. Wow, you think?
- 6:21I had to bring that up. It was too good not to share.
- 6:24Also, let it be known, if any of our friends have really good
- 6:26ghost stories and they want to tell us, please, we'll happily
- 6:30either have you on the podcast. You can send us a voice memo and
- 6:33we'll play it. We'll spice it in, or you can
- 6:35write it out to us and we'll read it on your behalf.
- 6:38Let me backtrack really quick to your birthday weekend.
- 6:42I had a conversation with individuals and this is actually
- 6:49tied to what you just said right now.
- 6:53One experiencing experiencing it, but having someone else also
- 6:59like validate you and say, I just saw that too.
- 7:03I think it's going to be for sure going to be a future
- 7:05episode, like near future because they want the active
- 7:10listeners 'cause I appreciate them.
- 7:11But when they told me, I'm like, I need this to be heard, like
- 7:15you guys need to give this story to the to the public.
- 7:17They need to hear this. So I'm I can't say.
- 7:20What the heck. I can't say.
- 7:21Guys, I don't like this habit of Jerry starting to keep secrets
- 7:24from me and surprising me it's. Part of the contract.
- 7:27I'm sorry, I don't. Have a heart attack or something
- 7:28at some point? It's it's all good.
- 7:31I have, I have aspirin. I have the first aid kit ready
- 7:34to go. You'll be fine.
- 7:36CPR certified you'll be. Fine.
- 7:38OK. Well, yeah.
- 7:39So it's kind of weird that you're bringing this up because
- 7:42you didn't you had no idea what what I what I'd like, you know,
- 7:45no gluten and you just said something really similar,
- 7:48similar. Can't talk right now.
- 7:50That's so cool, friend. Like so is our next.
- 7:54Episode similar like a floating. No, Some aspects of your story
- 7:58are similar to what I listened, but I what I'm hearing is we're
- 8:02going to the Pomona Cemetery. Oh, let's explore.
- 8:05I mean, you can't go at night time.
- 8:07Most cemeteries close at 6:00 Ava right now.
- 8:11Like, I drive past a cemetery on the way home and it is dark when
- 8:14I leave work. Yeah, but that would mean I have
- 8:17to go alone and I'm. I want to experience something
- 8:20supernatural but I I don't know how comfortable I am like going
- 8:25out on my own to. Experience it exactly, exactly.
- 8:27Yeah, someone you have no one around you like, yeah, corporal
- 8:31validation exactly. But physical being dude, like
- 8:34experiencing the the freaking cat balls going off on the
- 8:38stairs like that was a trip. We didn't we weren't seeing
- 8:41anything, but we were seeing supposedly a connection of some
- 8:45sort and making the cat balls react and light up.
- 8:48I think that's so one of the craziest things I've ever seen
- 8:50live multiple times. That's how I felt with the EMF
- 8:54reader going off when we were like trying to talk about like
- 8:57certain things. Uh huh, that was scary.
- 8:59Uh huh, that too. Not scary.
- 9:01Exciting. Exciting.
- 9:02It was exhilarating. Like it gets your heart rate
- 9:04going. It's so cool.
- 9:06It's so cool. We need to invest in more ghost
- 9:08hunting stuff. I've been bookmarking things
- 9:10I've been seeing on Tiktok. I received good feedback on the
- 9:13paranormal episodes. Good.
- 9:16Good. Keep them coming, guys.
- 9:18Yep, Keep listening. Keep watching, watching,
- 9:21watching. I'm gonna have more visual
- 9:24content in the future. By the way, shout out to to
- 9:27Brian for putting out these reels because these reels are so
- 9:29funny. Like if you if you aren't
- 9:31laughing, that's fucked up. Yeah guys that's fucked up.
- 9:35Please we we have a TikTok now. It's also the daily BJ podcast.
- 9:39Daily BJ? Yeah, please hold while I get
- 9:42the exact username. Hopefully TikTok doesn't start
- 9:45playing something weird. It didn't.
- 9:48We're on TikTok now, the daily BJ.
- 9:52Some of our videos have truly popped off.
- 9:54Y'all really like the the, the spank stick?
- 10:00That one is sitting at like 4000 views.
- 10:02Damn. Imagine if we had a visual
- 10:04podcast. Would you have done it?
- 10:05Would you have let me go? I mean, it's content.
- 10:08Yeah, for sure it's content. Shout out to everyone that was
- 10:12that got their wrapped of some sort and The Daily Beauty was on
- 10:15there as their top podcast. That was pretty cool.
- 10:18Shout out to y'all. Guys that made my day.
- 10:21The fact that you guys listen to our podcast that regularly, that
- 10:25you're like our 1% listeners, I love you.
- 10:29I wasn't even a 1% listener. I'm kidding.
- 10:31I was OK. I listen to a lot of podcasts.
- 10:35I think I was like, it wasn't my top, top 5% of podcasts or
- 10:38something. I think it gave me a ranking.
- 10:40OK, Now I. Just I that's the only podcast
- 10:42I. Because we don't we in the grand
- 10:45scheme of things, we don't have that many episodes.
- 10:47That's true. That is true.
- 10:48Some of the podcasts I listen to have been going at it for years
- 10:51so I'm I'm still burning through them.
- 10:54Yeah, no, I, I don't believe in any other podcast except ours.
- 10:56I don't listen to anything. I like that mentality.
- 10:58Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So guys, we we've been teasing
- 11:04this episode. Yes, we have.
- 11:06We've been wanting to tell you about our crazy work
- 11:09experiences. Because we've all had them.
- 11:13And Jerry has had more than most people.
- 11:16A lot of people, including me, have just gone through some shit
- 11:19situations. How?
- 11:22Many jobs have you had. That's a good question.
- 11:27Paid right? Not like.
- 11:29Yeah, paid not like. That was your job.
- 11:31You were there for a while. Maybe right under 9, like 10,
- 11:39maybe like 978-9789. I'm going to leave it.
- 11:43I'm going to cut those numbers there.
- 11:45I would not go below that. I've had four jobs OK in my
- 11:48life. And when did you start working?
- 11:51At like 17 I started in high school I.
- 11:54Started at 18 like right after graduation.
- 11:56OK. I am going to count 1 of OK,
- 11:59we'll, we'll get into that. But I think we are both in the
- 12:03same realm of like our first jobs were retail.
- 12:07Yes, Yeah, OK. For the longest time my only job
- 12:10was retail up until like the last two years.
- 12:12Did you ever do food, food industry, fast food?
- 12:16I was neither have I, I was too scared.
- 12:17Neither have I. I feel like it's that's been a
- 12:19conversation of have you worked retail, food business or or
- 12:26both? Or like a service.
- 12:27And it's never yeah, and it's never both.
- 12:29It's like, at least in my immediate circle, I don't know
- 12:32anyone that's worked both. It's always one or the other.
- 12:35My brother has worked both both. Dang.
- 12:38I think I feel like he worked at a restaurant.
- 12:43Taco Bell? Yes.
- 12:44No way I I'm right. I'm sensing things.
- 12:48We had a Taco Bell like a block and a half away and he was
- 12:51working there. I'm kidding.
- 12:52That's crazy. And getting a vision.
- 12:54I see. I might have told him.
- 12:56He he's been waiting for this moment.
- 12:58He's like one day he's going to ask.
- 12:59He's going to quiz me. I was going to say yo que to
- 13:02Taco Bell. I wasn't even going to say the
- 13:03Taco Bell. I see the I'm getting a name.
- 13:08Adrian. I never told you that before.
- 13:13Heat work that Taco Bell. My ears are buzzing.
- 13:15I'm. Seeing a vision, That's crazy.
- 13:17That was a total guess guys, I swear.
- 13:20Copay a lottery ticket after this.
- 13:22I I never do just say 7 numbers really quick.
- 13:26There was a 721 three, 1175, you said seven.
- 13:33I'm at 6/6 and. Two, I was going to say 12 for
- 13:38the last one, and then you said two.
- 13:40OK, we're not. We're not as linked.
- 13:41We're not as linked. Anyways, that wins you a lottery
- 13:43ticket like money you owe us. You stole Jerry's bid.
- 13:46Or one of our listeners will buy a ticket using my numbers and
- 13:52then sponsor this podcast. Yeah, you should do that or
- 13:54otherwise we're going to sue. Oh, by the way, Michael and
- 14:00Peter give me a really good idea.
- 14:01We should start, you know, dropping our sponsor names
- 14:03really quick. So I just want to like give a
- 14:05shout out, thank you to our sponsors of today's episode.
- 14:10Brian and and Jerry and Jerry, it's just us.
- 14:13Thank you. You guys fund everything that we
- 14:14do with this podcast. You guys bought us our mics, the
- 14:18programs we used to edit the audio, the voices.
- 14:23Yeah. Anyways, Anyways, anyways, yeah,
- 14:25that was our ideal all the. Equipment we've ever purchased
- 14:27to go ghost hunting. You guys have really dug deep in
- 14:31those. Wall, I mean, honestly and and
- 14:33we'll keep dropping. We'll keep dropping our shout
- 14:36outs to to our. I forgot that word already.
- 14:40To. Our sponsors.
- 14:41Thank you anyways. So going back, I would love to
- 14:44pick your brother's brain because that'd be a cool
- 14:46question, but what was your first shop?
- 14:48My first shop straight out of high school was retail.
- 14:51I got a job at Kmart. OK Kmart, rest in peace.
- 14:54I got the job because it was four blocks from my house and I
- 14:57had to have, I'd have to walk to work.
- 14:59Amazing. No commute?
- 15:01Nope, just walk. No money on gas, I use that
- 15:03money from there to buy my first car.
- 15:05Fuck yeah. The Honda Honda, the 2004 Honda,
- 15:10his name was OO my little 2 door Honda.
- 15:14Oh the memories I had in that car.
- 15:16That car got me through college. That's amazing.
- 15:18I I'm not fortunate enough to have like driven inside the car,
- 15:23but I've heard a lot of stories. Like I mentioned, that was
- 15:26probably one of our first conversations.
- 15:28Oh my God. Yeah.
- 15:29Talking about cars. Oh, my goodness.
- 15:31Yeah, you're right. You're like, let me tell some
- 15:33water I'm having vivid. Flashbacks like like stranger
- 15:37let me cars yeah I drive a Honda yeah I.
- 15:39Drive a Honda. I'm like.
- 15:41Fuck, I don't know shit about cars.
- 15:42That's so cool man. He's driving me home from a lazy
- 15:46dog. A random parking lot.
- 15:49A random McDonald's parking lot. Crazy times flies.
- 15:53That was two months ago. That was four years ago.
- 15:58And how was Kmart? Because Kmart is a fucking
- 16:00warehouse. Kmart.
- 16:01Think about it of. Everything Kmart was like living
- 16:07ATV show where things did not seem real.
- 16:11We had I would like we we did have like a a custodial staff.
- 16:16So they would like clean early in the morning.
- 16:18I never really met them because I would work like late at nights
- 16:21because I was so I was part time.
- 16:23I went to college. Yeah, but there is times we
- 16:26would find needles in the bathroom, crack pipes in the
- 16:32bathroom. You're right next to the freeway
- 16:35and like a gas station and a Carl's Junior.
- 16:41I was there until the store closed like fully.
- 16:43They shut business down. They said oh, you guys are all
- 16:46losing your jobs, but here's a whole bunch of hours because we
- 16:50have to sell everything. So I left making money.
- 16:53Yeah, got my first, first time I ever got unemployment.
- 16:57It was amazing. I didn't work for like 3 months,
- 17:00but I locate I love working there really.
- 17:03I miss the friends I've made there because we I would see the
- 17:07same group of people everyday the work all the time.
- 17:10Our assistant manager, his name was Scott.
- 17:13Hope I'm not doxing you Scott, but he was so cool.
- 17:17He was so nice. Every other like lead person was
- 17:26the devil reincarnated. Oh my God.
- 17:30Except for this one lady. Her name was Mitzi.
- 17:33She was OK Think of a woman who's like 5 foot.
- 17:37She has like, boy, short hair, Gray.
- 17:42OK, she has to go take her smoke breaks.
- 17:45But she's also the coolest woman you've ever met.
- 17:47I feel that that image you just painted, I feel like, I feel
- 17:49like her name's it's a mid sea, you know, it's just got to take
- 17:52a quick smoke break. People would come and try to
- 17:55like cost some shit and little 5 foot woman would look him up,
- 17:58look him down and be like you can leave.
- 18:01Wow. No, we're not doing business.
- 18:03You can go. Yeah, I'm not fighting with you.
- 18:05Leave like she was. That bitch.
- 18:08That's fucking cool. How older?
- 18:10Older. Yeah.
- 18:11She must have been like, in her. I mean, not older, maybe 50s.
- 18:14Yeah. And she's not taking anyone
- 18:17shit. Nope.
- 18:18No time. Oh, and then we had our HR
- 18:20person, Debbie. She was so sweet.
- 18:22Like, how can you hate someone named Debbie?
- 18:24True. She had her nails done.
- 18:27She had her glasses. She always had candy in her bowl
- 18:29at her desk. And she would be like at the
- 18:31entrance of the waiting or not of the break room.
- 18:34So we'd pass by and she would be like, hi, Brian.
- 18:37And I'm like, hey, Debbie. I would go in there and complain
- 18:41and she was like, she would feed us.
- 18:43Wow. She would ask how we're doing.
- 18:46A good human resources like staff.
- 18:48She really fought for us, like she saw the writing on the wall.
- 18:51Luckily, they did transfer over to another store.
- 18:54Yeah, she was good at her job, but she she saw, like, all the
- 18:59BS that we were dealing with. Yeah, it was this.
- 19:02I don't know how much I want to share.
- 19:03What? Because no, no name.
- 19:07I'm never going to see this person again.
- 19:09I won't. I won't give her her name.
- 19:10But the closing era was some shit dude dude.
- 19:17What? What were the hours like?
- 19:18What was the closing hours? It would, I think, be 6 to 10,
- 19:22OK. And I think at that point,
- 19:25listen, at any job I've ever had, my goal has always been to
- 19:28be the best at it. Like, even if I hate the job,
- 19:31look at that. And are even if I'm feeling
- 19:33lazy, like I'm not going to do a subpar job.
- 19:35Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like I will always, like, do my
- 19:38best with the least effort possible.
- 19:39OK, OK. Why would I expend the extra
- 19:41effort? But if I know, I can kick some
- 19:43ass. Spoken like a true Sagittarius.
- 19:45I was also like 1819 at the time.
- 19:47Ambitious, full of life. So they're like, you want to do
- 19:52the customer service desk? And I was like, yeah, first
- 19:54mistake. Oh.
- 19:55Man, not a Gray. Hair did.
- 19:57He gave me a $0.25 raise to deal with all the people yelling
- 20:01about returns, wanting to speak with the manager or that
- 20:05cashier. Oh my God.
- 20:09We had to learn how to sell lottery tickets for like 3
- 20:11months and then literally no one ever came to buy any.
- 20:14So we just unplugged the machine and started saying we weren't
- 20:16selling lottery tickets anymore. Yeah, like with the machines
- 20:19right there. Oh, it doesn't work.
- 20:20I'm so sorry. There's a gas station across the
- 20:22street. Go there.
- 20:24Yeah, jeez. And in that same time I have a
- 20:28theory. OK, we got a new manager at that
- 20:31time and I'm pretty sure they sent her there knowing that the
- 20:35store was going to close and they're going to lay off
- 20:36everyone. OK, so they give a fuck.
- 20:38She was a terrible person. Of course, of course.
- 20:42She was mean. The only person that she like
- 20:45showed any kind of grace to that I saw or two people was Debbie.
- 20:49The. HR person and then she brought
- 20:52an assistant manager from her store over and they would spend
- 20:57all their days in their office. Buddy, buddy.
- 20:59Just yeah, guys, I'm not a mean person.
- 21:03I didn't start this this name, but she had some greasy blunt
- 21:07bangs and people started calling her trash bangs.
- 21:12I didn't. I personally didn't, but that's
- 21:14how I knew her was trash bangs. OK trash bangs mean derogatory
- 21:20now. It's in the name.
- 21:21It's in the. Yeah, listen.
- 21:22Jerry, what did I say? I I try my best to be a good
- 21:24worker. Yes, I always try to excel,
- 21:27exceed, move on up. Why did this woman at our yearly
- 21:33reviews said, Brian, come here, come into my office, we need to
- 21:37talk. And I was like, I'm getting a
- 21:39raise. This is going to be amazing.
- 21:41I've been working so well. We need to talk about your
- 21:45attendance. I'm like my perfect attendance.
- 21:48Yeah, you're late all the time. And I was like this bitch.
- 21:54I was like, what? Actually, yeah, you're late.
- 21:56And it's been a lot. We're going to give you a final
- 21:59warning, so if you're late again, we're going to have to
- 22:01terminate you. I was like, what?
- 22:03The out Granted also, at this point I was like 19.
- 22:06I had no knowledge of my rights as an employee, as a worker.
- 22:10Was it fear? It was.
- 22:12Plus I didn't like this lady. Yeah.
- 22:14So at that point she got me mad and I are you mad?
- 22:16I don't want to talk to you anymore, especially back then,
- 22:18so afraid of confrontation. Now I'll fight.
- 22:20But yeah, I've seen it. I've seen it first hand.
- 22:22Now I'm going to. Tell you, don't talk to me.
- 22:26Guys, the amount of times I reference Brian at Target with
- 22:30the fucking spectrum people that come up, he's like, hey man,
- 22:33what kind of Internet do you have?
- 22:34He's like, not interested. No, but I don't want to talk to
- 22:37you. The fear and like the he just
- 22:41started. He was about to cry.
- 22:42No, he was going to fucking cry. Yes, he was.
- 22:44He just said Oh well damn. Yeah, I'm not.
- 22:48I don't want to waste your time dude.
- 22:49Yeah, yeah, I walked away. I strive to be that person.
- 22:53I I just. Don't want to talk to that man.
- 22:55I already I already have spectrum like I have.
- 22:57Spectrum. You're not going to listen to
- 22:58me. Anyways, anyway but.
- 23:00This was before it came. Into my own.
- 23:02For sure. And there I was like, oomph, I
- 23:05mean, OK, And I signed a paper saying that I'm on on my final
- 23:10strike. Punch in the air right now.
- 23:12And I left that place with a a wonderful reviews, references
- 23:17like friends, like everyone else was amazing.
- 23:22I miss the guys, but I had a good group of like guy friends,
- 23:26which did not happen again for like a while.
- 23:29But they were all so cool. And now dude, I still follow
- 23:32them on social media. So some of them have like kids,
- 23:35they're married families and I met them as like I was older
- 23:39than them. They were like.
- 23:40Still, in high school, they were even smaller than.
- 23:42Yes, there were like part time students, like high school
- 23:44students. I remember when we did close the
- 23:48store that last day, our manager or assistant manager was like
- 23:53stay a once they locked once like I saw the keys.
- 23:56Like we're going to stay with who?
- 23:58Party. That's cool.
- 23:59So like all our friends, we smoke and alcohol.
- 24:04Yeah. In our lockers.
- 24:05Yeah. And at the end of the night,
- 24:08once everyone else had left, we just pumped our music in the
- 24:12offices, we had food. And then we kind of just looked
- 24:17around because at that point, the store was empty.
- 24:20Everything is sold. All the fixtures are sold.
- 24:22Imagine like you walk into a Walmart, a Walmart now, and
- 24:25there's no shelves. The only thing that's there is
- 24:27the stuff that's built into the floor, into the walls.
- 24:31It's so sad. Did you guys do it like that
- 24:33movie scene where it's like a cutscene where everyone was just
- 24:35like shoulder to shoulder and like just looking and just
- 24:38admiring like the sunset in the back?
- 24:42No, it was the moon was out and we were on the roof.
- 24:44That's fucking cool. We took the emergency exit up to
- 24:47the roof and we were up there. Two guys peed off the side.
- 24:50Of the I was about to say that I'm like, did anyone pee off
- 24:52the? Side, I regret not participating
- 24:54because when I was like, when was I going to have that chance
- 24:56again? That's true.
- 24:59That's so good, yeah. Wow.
- 25:03Oh, there was also like a lead. Her name was Tina.
- 25:05I wonder where she's up to. She was cool too.
- 25:09A lot of cool people. I still follow a lot of them on
- 25:11social media so I see them around, but that's cool.
- 25:13That was that was my first job. I was there for like 3 years, so
- 25:16from 2. To like 20 if you, in my
- 25:19opinion, if you're holding on a job for more than a year as a
- 25:23teenager, that's that's cool. Like that was doing, yeah.
- 25:29They had me everywhere. I bet.
- 25:31I worked at electronics for a hot 2nd and then they got rid of
- 25:33the electronics department she and then they put her in
- 25:36sporting goods. I'm like what the fuck am I?
- 25:39In here. Yep.
- 25:40If anyone knows sports, it's it's Brian.
- 25:43And the only reason was because they needed men on the floor for
- 25:48sure, for all the stuff that came off the truck.
- 25:50So even though you live great cashier, I've always been a
- 25:52great cashier. They're like, no, we need you on
- 25:54the floor. I'll be like, OK.
- 25:56Bron Bron and steel or whatever the fuck that saying is.
- 26:00Yep. The only thing I never did was
- 26:03the fitter room and clothes, which is so funny because my
- 26:08second job was only clothes. And you're good as fuck at that.
- 26:12Absolutely. Damn.
- 26:13I bet. What was your first job?
- 26:15You can give a couple because you have, Yeah.
- 26:17I might. I'm going to have to double dip
- 26:19and like just some key points. So I'm going to count my first
- 26:23ever job as a paid internship because I was paid that summer
- 26:26accounts. So that was my first job working
- 26:28at TJ Maxx. TJ Maxx was AROP like
- 26:33partnership with, you know, the high schools and stuff.
- 26:36And that summer I forgot what break it was.
- 26:38I worked for like a good month there and I was like 1716 1/2
- 26:43seventeen. I was, I was still a sophomore
- 26:45in in in high school, so. Do you think you have pictures
- 26:48from this era? That's what I'm looking for.
- 26:50Right now, absolutely not. If I did it, it might have been
- 26:53on my phone at the time, but that phone is like maybe at my
- 26:56parents, maybe that's the phone that I used.
- 27:00I I traded for my bass guitar when I was in fucking high
- 27:02school. Idiot.
- 27:03Anyways, Anyways. Oh my God, I found videos from
- 27:06that party that no, I'll show you.
- 27:08OK, we got, we got to put some of these up.
- 27:09I know, I know, I don't have these people per permission.
- 27:12It's not videos of me. That's true.
- 27:14That's true. We don't want to get.
- 27:15Sued. I might have a lot on Snapchat.
- 27:16I need to watch those I'll. Show you after.
- 27:20I have no videos, but it was, it was interesting because I was
- 27:26like the youngest person there and and they only offered it to
- 27:29like 223 people. What year?
- 27:31What grade were you in? I was a sophomore.
- 27:32In high school. Oh my God, so you were like 15?
- 27:34Yeah, I had just transferred to this, to the high school and I
- 27:38was put in a class with a bunch of seniors and and like kids
- 27:41from the Learning Center that would take this ROP class.
- 27:45But anyways, through that ROP class, like they offered
- 27:47internships, like summer paid internships and shit.
- 27:49That's how I got my first shot. I was like, fuck it, I'm not
- 27:51doing shit. Whatever.
- 27:52Yeah. So, TJ.
- 27:53Maxx, make your money. Huge, right?
- 27:54It was right at the at the outlets in San Ysidro, so it's
- 27:57right by the border. It's a hella pack like the on my
- 28:00first day, someone stole fucking purses which are right next to
- 28:04the fucking entrance. Like God, it doesn't matter how
- 28:06many sensors there they came in, they just grab the whole fucking
- 28:09stack ran out and like, Yep, that happens.
- 28:13It's like the it's what? It's what the major losses every
- 28:15year. Was the purses the purses?
- 28:17We might have to do a Part 2 because I would.
- 28:20We're going to be here for hours talking about all the crazy
- 28:22situations. I'm only going to, yeah, I'm
- 28:24only going to like skim through like just the main points, The
- 28:26main points. I'm going to talk about those,
- 28:28not the detail, but it was fun. I mean, it was only for like a
- 28:31month, month or two. So that summer I had some money
- 28:34for the first time. My checks were good.
- 28:36I think I was paying like 18 an hour or something or 7/17 an
- 28:39hour. 17 as a. 15 year old. It was an RP program, like it
- 28:42was like they're just they want to get you the experience for
- 28:44your resume and they're paying really good for like a month or
- 28:47two. So it wasn't too crazy.
- 28:48When I started my job, I think my wage was $14.00.
- 28:53And I might be lying then, this was 20.
- 28:55I was, yeah, it was like 2016 and I think I was making like
- 29:01$15 maybe. OK, I might be lying.
- 29:03I'll I'll find a pay stub or something.
- 29:06I won't find a pay stub. But it was really high.
- 29:08It was really good at like paid. It was above minimum wage and
- 29:10everything. But anyways, what I was getting
- 29:12used to was waking up early. I'm chronically late.
- 29:15I'm fucking like it's, it's always been in my blood.
- 29:17It was what I was taught as a kid.
- 29:18With my friend, but he is not punctual.
- 29:20Oh man I fucking suck. Like I I'll wake up early I'll
- 29:23I'll hate my life. My contact just moved.
- 29:26I'll hate my fucking life. I hate waking up early.
- 29:29But anyways, that was my first experience was that late almost
- 29:33everyday. Yeah, did they care?
- 29:35Was IA joy to have around? Yep, Absol fucking lutely.
- 29:38Lift up the vibes. The manager, I forget his name.
- 29:41So I'm like, you know, maybe like 30s, late early 40s Mexican
- 29:46dude. Super cool.
- 29:47He we would always talk sports 'cause he was a big football fan
- 29:50and I was playing football at the time.
- 29:51So like he was like, oh, that's so cool.
- 29:53And like I just got to know him. He was super cool.
- 29:56They wouldn't have me on go backs.
- 29:57They would have me at like just fixing all the guys and stuff,
- 30:00the toys, the sales, but they would rotate us.
- 30:02Never did cashier 'cause we were too young.
- 30:04Yeah, but I remember after that internship, he said apply like I
- 30:08will give you a job. And I remember, I remember being
- 30:12like in the clearance section in the back corner, like
- 30:14organizing, thinking I was organizing.
- 30:16I was putting clearance shit in the wrong place.
- 30:18I was. And then I would like put my
- 30:19head down 'cause it was like early as fuck.
- 30:20I, I opened every morning with a whole group.
- 30:24I put my head down and I would like fall asleep.
- 30:26Oh my God, I would just lean on a, on a, on a rack and I would
- 30:28just be like, oh, let me just like close my eyes.
- 30:30I swear I'd be falling asleep. It was, it was so funny.
- 30:34Like I just looked back at it. I'm like, I wonder if they're
- 30:36looking at me through the cameras, but like, look.
- 30:37At this kid three years again. Look at Needle falling asleep on
- 30:40a rack like. 15 years old. Yeah.
- 30:43And then, yeah, that was kind of weird.
- 30:46Then I ended and I was like, no, I'm not.
- 30:48I don't want to work. Fuck that.
- 30:50So when did you have your second job?
- 30:52After high school my first like official job was a part time
- 30:55job, but it was at the mall working for lids.
- 30:58That was my that my. So Lids was the first night of
- 31:01high school. That was my first experience
- 31:02working like out of high school, college, minimum wage, part
- 31:08time, just fucking just your regular teenage job.
- 31:11You know the first one you get. But I was obsessed with hats at
- 31:14the time. So it was like fuck yeah.
- 31:16Like when I get a discount, I did get AI got a fat discount
- 31:18and and best believe I had a whole stack of hats in the back.
- 31:21That's when I owned the most hats.
- 31:22At one point I had like over 40 hats.
- 31:25Oh my God. Yep.
- 31:26And when I wear all of them, no. Some of them are just possessed,
- 31:28prized possessions. They're for display only.
- 31:33That was my first experience of A having a shitty ass fucking
- 31:37manager B. Like the pressures of people
- 31:41wanting to take advantage of you because you're a kid and then
- 31:44working at the mall. I think working at the mall's
- 31:46fun, but it's just, it's also like, Dan, I got to drive home
- 31:49now. I got to drive back to the mall.
- 31:50Like it's not you. You lose the whimsy of the mall
- 31:52because you're just like, man, fuck this place, you know?
- 31:55I think we're also the last generation of mall culture.
- 31:57Probably. Because after that I don't think
- 32:01I did mall activity. Mall as an activity past
- 32:06college, maybe In college, Yeah, I stopped going to the mall.
- 32:09Yeah for what? To see the same shit I see
- 32:11everyday? Like fuck that, like.
- 32:15So you didn't have like a romanticized like mall job or
- 32:18like all your friends are going to meet at like right after your
- 32:21shift and you're going to go shop the stores.
- 32:23Nope. Because because I was part time,
- 32:26I felt like I would just give in like the random schedules for
- 32:28the weekend. So I would, I would work Friday,
- 32:30Saturday or Sunday of course. And they would always give it to
- 32:33me. I would either because you're
- 32:34the new guy, because I'm the new guy, I'm the youngest guy.
- 32:37And then you would I would work closing.
- 32:39So I would be there from like the ball close like at 7 or
- 32:42something. That's not bad.
- 32:44But I'd be there from like. 4:00 to 8:00.
- 32:47Yeah, yeah, yeah, like 3 to 7, four to seven, whatever,
- 32:50whatever it was. But dude, like my first hints of
- 32:54a shitty manager was when he was like 1, I found out he didn't
- 32:57drive and he was he, he like he brought up the conversation
- 33:00super weird dude, by the way, just when I, when I look back at
- 33:03the conversations, he was like a big sneaker head.
- 33:06He would like buy double pairs of everything because he said he
- 33:09would always, I respect the culture, you know, do what you
- 33:11got to do. But he was like, no, I always
- 33:13buy 2 pairs of shoes. I put one in my closet to just
- 33:16hold and I didn't understand that at the time.
- 33:17I'm like, that's interesting. And then we were talking about
- 33:20shoes and he's like, oh, yeah, also like, yeah, I don't drive.
- 33:23I live like, you know, maybe like 10 minutes from here.
- 33:25But I get I get picked up and I'm like, oh, like, that's cool.
- 33:28Maybe he just doesn't have a car.
- 33:29No, he just said he doesn't want to drive.
- 33:31And what do I do as a kid? Hey, you need a ride.
- 33:34To your manager. Come on, fucking manager.
- 33:37And he'd be like, yeah, sure. He was like 30 something.
- 33:41That's strange. And he's like, yeah, sure.
- 33:43And then he'd he's yeah. So I would give a ride and then
- 33:48he did he would just start being fucking like like we would do
- 33:51like these. We would sell access passes,
- 33:54which is like the membership when we had them at the time.
- 33:56Like the physical memberships are 5 bucks but then you'd get
- 33:58like a 15% off that same day which would pay off the card and
- 34:02like the next purchase whatever it was worth it if you didn't
- 34:07hit your goal. At the end of like the bi weekly
- 34:10weekly thing there would be a sheet with all the numbers of
- 34:13how many you sold, what your total transactions were, blah
- 34:15blah blah. All your metrics.
- 34:16All the metrics and then at the bottom he would write everyone's
- 34:19name like a shout out, hey, you got to do better and what are
- 34:24you doing? And he would fucking like target
- 34:26those that were like in that bottom percentile.
- 34:28And this is public to. Everyone no public to our like
- 34:30little no no but. Yes.
- 34:32Everyone. And he would always say some
- 34:34fucking dumb slice shit to me, tell he'd be like, like, Jerry,
- 34:39you got to step it up. Like, are you even clocking in
- 34:42or like, what are you showing up to do?
- 34:44Like just always jabbing. And I'm like, at first I was
- 34:46like, ha, ha, ha, ha. But then I was like, dude, like,
- 34:48I don't, I don't, I get it. It's not that serious, dude.
- 34:50Like, chill. Yeah, I'm not.
- 34:52Going to give you a ride anymore.
- 34:53Yeah. So no, after a while I was just
- 34:54like, dude, fuck you, I don't want to give you a ride.
- 34:56You're a fucking weirdo. And he would always be weird.
- 34:58Like he, he like wouldn't schedule me with certain people.
- 35:02There was like 2 girls, but like I, I don't fucking like I was
- 35:05out at work, you know? And but he specifically told
- 35:07them, oh, I don't want you to work with him because he's going
- 35:09to distract you and he would like schedule himself with.
- 35:12With them, No. He.
- 35:13Wasn't creep. Yeah, he's a fucking weirdo
- 35:15dude. So after I started like giving
- 35:17him rides and like just being cool with him, I was like he
- 35:20started being a Dick like he would just stop scheduling me.
- 35:23He would call me out for being late, but I was working at 3,
- 35:25like I was there early, so I was here and then I was kind of
- 35:28late, but Nah, not that serious. And then, yeah, we just, we, we
- 35:35kept getting new guys. And then the new guys would be
- 35:37like, like, oh, oh, you're Jerry.
- 35:40And I'll be like, yeah, like, what the fuck does that mean,
- 35:43you know? What are you hearing and.
- 35:45Man, like this. Like the stories I heard after I
- 35:48did work with one of my older brother's friends.
- 35:50Well, not friends, but he knew him.
- 35:52He was cool, but he would he would be like, yeah, and I, he
- 35:54doesn't. He doesn't like you.
- 35:55I'm like, why? Like what did I do him rights.
- 35:58Like what did I do? Like what the fuck?
- 35:59That's so weird. Jealousy, man, you were the
- 36:01alpha. I, I had to, I ended up fucking
- 36:03quitting. I'm like, fuck you, dude, you're
- 36:04weird. Fuck this place.
- 36:06He would, he would, he would call me out because people would
- 36:08come in like Gary, what's up? And I'd talk to them, but they
- 36:11did buy shit. Or, or if not, I'd be, I'd talk
- 36:13to them for like a minute or two and he'd call me.
- 36:16I'd be like, hey, can I talk to you?
- 36:17Be like, hey, you can't do that. I'm like do what customer
- 36:20service? Like ha ha, no, I'm serious.
- 36:23Like you're like distracting other people and like it looks
- 36:26like you're just having fun. I'm like, well, isn't that the
- 36:28whole point to have fun at my job?
- 36:30Like it just just weird man. Like.
- 36:32Sounds miserable and like he doesn't have friends and his
- 36:34social life was going to work. Yeah, and fucking trying to
- 36:37bully 18 year olds. 1718 year olds.
- 36:39Like how old was he? Like he was like 30 something
- 36:41for sure. He had a family, he had kids.
- 36:43Oh my God, that was a signor. He yeah, he is jealous, dude.
- 36:46Yeah, probably jealous of all the young people.
- 36:49Mm hmm. I wanted to fraternize with all
- 36:52the young girls. I quit, I gave him my letter.
- 36:57I'm like, hey, I'm resigning. I give him a two weeks and I, I
- 37:01forget what I asked him like I was like, I'm not expecting like
- 37:04a, a, a like a referral or like a letter of recommendation.
- 37:07He's like, Oh no, I'm I'm not. I'm like, I know, like I'm, I'm,
- 37:11I don't expect anything like that's it.
- 37:13Thank you, but I, I, I did bring it up as like a baby a hope,
- 37:17like, hey, you know, if I fucking can I put you down as a
- 37:19reference? But he was like, no, I'm like,
- 37:21cool. He did not like you.
- 37:23No, dude, he didn't, he didn't do that.
- 37:25And and I remember like talking about these, these interactions
- 37:29with with let's say, or like, yeah, she'd be like, it's just
- 37:32fuck this guy. I'm like, yeah, fucking weirdo.
- 37:35That was my first one. That was my first one but.
- 37:37Damn, I'm glad you quit. How long were?
- 37:39You there for? I was there for like less than a
- 37:41year. Good.
- 37:42Yeah, after the first couple months I was like, yeah, this
- 37:45place kind of sucks. Those vibes are not great here.
- 37:48I don't get that. Man's a bully.
- 37:50Like you get it. Yeah.
- 37:52And once again, I think I would do like you.
- 37:54I would try to overachieve. I'd be like, when I'm here, like
- 37:56I'm going to try to have fun. I'm going to be super talkative.
- 37:59I I got the. It was a seasonal position,
- 38:01which I then they kept you. They kept me.
- 38:03Yeah. So I was like, I was doing
- 38:05something right downhill from there.
- 38:07Shit. Yeah.
- 38:08They said now that we have downtime, I can bully you.
- 38:10Yeah. Now that we're not super busy,
- 38:12yeah. But just try to be a good
- 38:14person. Yeah.
- 38:15So yeah, that was the first one, retail man.
- 38:20Was that your last retail job or do you have more?
- 38:23I think that might have been it because after that I started
- 38:25working in schools as a coach, which was super fun.
- 38:30Works with Mariano as a soccer coach for a while.
- 38:33Oh, cute. With a manager who was
- 38:35eventually our friend because she was super cool.
- 38:39That was like my first taste of like working at schools and like
- 38:42coaching and like doing all that stuff, which is really fun.
- 38:45Did that for a couple years and then for when I was in Community
- 38:48College and then when I transferred up to university,
- 38:53that's when I got the security gig and I did that for I think
- 38:56the longest. This was the era I met Jerry.
- 38:57Yeah, I was. I was being told who Jerry was.
- 39:00I was like, Oh yeah, he, he does security out in LA somewhere.
- 39:04Like I was like, OK. And then, not long after, he had
- 39:06another job. Yep, Yep, I did do that for, I
- 39:09want to say over 2 years and then COVID hit, which then like
- 39:13there's no one, there's nothing to do.
- 39:15But I did have a lot of fun, man.
- 39:16I I worked the other night and then like a lot of his friends
- 39:19ended up joining a couple of mine ended up picking up a
- 39:22couple gigs. Security was fun.
- 39:24It had its moments. I also feel like it was like,
- 39:29you're working with a bunch of like old grown men.
- 39:31You're like those people that think they're fucking cops.
- 39:33Oh. My God I can I can just imagine
- 39:36their mindset. Yeah, I had AI had a couple like
- 39:39altercations with like just older dudes who just didn't like
- 39:42being told what to do. Because eventually I did get
- 39:43like a supervisory position as like a 20 year old, 21 year old
- 39:48to, to some guys that are like in their 30s, forties, 50s, like
- 39:51they don't like being told what to do by younger people.
- 39:54So that's what that's where it got interesting.
- 39:56And then obviously some celebrities had really good
- 39:58interactions with them, others not so much.
- 40:01Name drop Who'd you meet? Dude, don't tell me if it's good
- 40:03or bad, but just who, who who who'd you meet?
- 40:05I used to have, I used to have a list like I, I was like, I have
- 40:08to, I have to put a list together.
- 40:10I worked a couple red carpets where like Tom Hanks for like
- 40:12the the premiere for like Toy Story.
- 40:16What's his name? The guy that plays Buzz
- 40:18Lightyear, Woody Allen, him, we saw a Doja Cat perform in a
- 40:23small ass little bar. We saw Caliucci's perform in a
- 40:26small little bit. Yeah, we worked.
- 40:30What's that? Stagecoach?
- 40:32So I met like, a lot of like, sons of this rapper and then
- 40:37this, whatever. I had a picture with a
- 40:40basketball player running. I ran into him in like the
- 40:42restroom and like, can I get a picture?
- 40:44And then I took a picture, lost it, lost that phone.
- 40:46No trace. Wow.
- 40:50Yeah, security was cool. I made a lot of money to like
- 40:52just the gigs where you you have the opportunity to make money.
- 40:56If you're smart enough, you can totally get in to do extra shit.
- 40:59Damn, you were hustling. It was, it was really fun.
- 41:01It had a really good era that that year, those years COVID
- 41:05hit, declined. Gone.
- 41:06Nothing. And then after that, I just kind
- 41:08of focus on working in the realm of like where I wanted to study,
- 41:12where I wanted to get to and stuff.
- 41:14But I'm a pause here to let you go because that was like back
- 41:17to. Back-to-back at this same era is
- 41:19when I got my second job because I was working through, I think I
- 41:29had just finished school. No, no, I was still in school
- 41:34because I had this job before COVID.
- 41:36I went from my old job to unemployment for a couple months
- 41:42because I'm like, what the heck, I get to make money and not have
- 41:47to work and I just have to apply.
- 41:50And unfortunately I only got unemployment for like 2 months
- 41:53because I did get a call back in an interview for a, for a
- 41:56clothing store. OK, I don't want to say what
- 41:59clothing store because I still have a lot of colleagues, OK,
- 42:02who work in that, in that field and in that chain.
- 42:05But I would say that 80% of it was a good job, OK, 20% of it
- 42:13was bad, and when it was bad, it was terrible.
- 42:16Fuck. Started off as just like a
- 42:19regular cashier and going from a huge like department store to a
- 42:27small like kind of outdoor mall store where it's only clothing.
- 42:30Yeah, night and day difference. I bet it was so easy and the
- 42:36expectations, or maybe it was just the management team in
- 42:39general, was way more uplifting, way more positive and really
- 42:42wanted you to grow. Because every, like, manager
- 42:46that I met and talked with, like had a long history with the
- 42:49company and would say, hey, if you like work really hard and
- 42:53you're motivated to try new things, you'll move up.
- 42:56I was a cashier for like maybe 6-7 months before.
- 42:58They're like, oh, we need a lead, are you interested?
- 43:01And I was like, yeah, put me in coach.
- 43:04Yeah, yeah. This is also where I think I've
- 43:08finessed my customer service skills, which have led me to
- 43:11like where I'm at now because now I'm my field of job is 2/3
- 43:16worlds away from from retail, but still customer service is
- 43:19still needed important. I had to like the thing that
- 43:24they were hardest on was selling credit cards.
- 43:27All they cared about was how much money they made at the end
- 43:29of the day and how many credit cards are made.
- 43:31That was one of my biggest stressors, everyone's stressors.
- 43:35That quota. And unfortunately I was pretty
- 43:38good at it. OK, like I was really good at
- 43:40it, like top performer until I became a manager and then the
- 43:44nation. No, for like our like the
- 43:46district, like the whole group of stories.
- 43:49That's technically the nation. So they were like, oh, you're
- 43:52really good, let's make you instead of a lead, we have a, it
- 43:57was like an in between position of like a lead and a manager
- 44:00because you're part of the management team, you're in all
- 44:02the management meetings and your title was not manager.
- 44:05OK. And I was found myself in charge
- 44:08of our truck deliveries. OK.
- 44:11For like a $2.00 raise and I said give it to me two.
- 44:13Dollars. I'll do it.
- 44:14I'll become a trucker. No, Jerry, during the holiday
- 44:18season, I'd have to start my shifts at 4:00 in the morning.
- 44:21Have some horseshit? Waiting for the truck to get
- 44:24there because sometimes the truck would be late.
- 44:25Why are we there at 4:00? And they were doing this whole
- 44:28like restructuring of our operation for how we unload
- 44:31trucks, how we get products on the floor.
- 44:33And we were part of like the pilot program.
- 44:36So they'd be like, oh, Brian, there's a meeting at the out of
- 44:40store all the way in Orange County and you need to be there
- 44:42at 6:00 AM. So there I am on a day I'm not
- 44:46doing truck, waking up at 4:00 in the morning so I can get
- 44:49ready and drive all the way down to like deep Orange County.
- 44:52Like deep. To then to know what's even
- 44:55further, to then still come back and receive the truck.
- 44:58No, no, no, no, no. We would watch them do their
- 45:00truck because some of them had slightly different.
- 45:02Oh, I see what you mean. I see.
- 45:03I think they had different schedules.
- 45:04Got it, got it. So you'd be there to see their
- 45:06operation. To see how they're doing because
- 45:07they'd be like, can we they're like, we needed to push this
- 45:10many units per hour while we do truck because that's how you're
- 45:14getting allocated for your for your team.
- 45:19Like that's how I would I would know how many people I need to
- 45:21schedule because we get an invoice of all the items we're
- 45:25getting on the truck that day. I'd have to coordinate with the
- 45:28department heads like women's lead, men's lead, kids lead and
- 45:32be like, hey, this product is new This product is new.
- 45:36I don't see it in the flow plant.
- 45:38This, this part was cool, which I really liked was like the
- 45:41structure of the of the store, OK And moving stuff around and
- 45:45doing layout changes like that was so fun.
- 45:48Yeah, I wasn't the greatest at it to begin with.
- 45:53And ultimately it wasn't my job. So I would go to the other
- 45:55people and be like, hey, you're getting 100 new jackets of the
- 45:58style where they go. And she'd be like follow me and
- 46:03she'd like like puzzle pieces. All of a sudden she has a bunch
- 46:07of empty hooks and arms and shelves.
- 46:10She like it's going to go there crazy.
- 46:12So then I would then have it all written out.
- 46:16I'd have printed copies of our guidebook and be like, hey, so
- 46:21and so you have to, you're going to be in charge of women's,
- 46:25you're unboxing all of women's active and all of women's active
- 46:28is going to go on these shelves. And I would have to like run my
- 46:32circles, make sure everyone's on time, see that someone is
- 46:35struggling, have to go in and help them.
- 46:37And then they'll be like, oh, hey, this is new, but it's not
- 46:40on the flow plan. What do we do?
- 46:44And that's where I'm like, I'm so sorry, lady.
- 46:48I, I but I'm going to mess your shelves up right now.
- 46:51Yeah. So there I am, restructuring
- 46:53shelves, trying to put stuff together.
- 46:54Yeah, I was one way skinnier than I am now and two were
- 46:59really strong. OK, 'cause shit was heavy.
- 47:01Yeah, I bet. Dude, those boxes are fucked.
- 47:03close. Yeah, they're packed.
- 47:05Moving mannequins around the wooden shelves that everything
- 47:08is on. Those were like 25 lbs.
- 47:10These are the questions as like a a consumer when you're
- 47:12walking, you're like, oh wow, they changed the layout.
- 47:14Like I wonder when they did it We were.
- 47:15There at 4:00 in the morning Fucking.
- 47:17Crazy. I can't.
- 47:18Or were there late at night the night before.
- 47:20Yeah, but I had really good Co workers.
- 47:25I made great friends like where it evolved past coworkers.
- 47:29Yeah, I love that job when it was great and it was terrible.
- 47:37Like the holiday season is been ultimately like what led me to
- 47:43quit because I got promoted again, didn't have to do truck
- 47:45no more. And then I became the manager of
- 47:47like all operation stuff, so like scheduling and I don't even
- 47:53remember what he did anymore. It's like so it's a blur to me.
- 47:57I think it's called trauma. Yes, if there was any issues,
- 48:01anyone wanted to fight any of the cashiers, I'd have to go out
- 48:03there. I have to be vigilant in case
- 48:05someone is trying to steal constantly.
- 48:07We did have a lot of like crazy experiences, people threatening
- 48:13because one, we're not I I also stand by this.
- 48:18If someone is stealing stuff and they're running out your door,
- 48:20do not chase them. Do not.
- 48:23Above your pay Agree. Dude, yeah, do not get involved
- 48:25because your safety and your life is more important than that
- 48:28clothes, than those clothes and those losses.
- 48:30And if some LP person is going to yell at you for that, be
- 48:34like, I'm so sorry, but my life is worth so much more than these
- 48:37clothes. My safety.
- 48:38I if you think that's not the case, bye.
- 48:42Bye. Yeah, fuck you, fuck off mate.
- 48:47Downside of being in management means you are also responsible
- 48:50for any kind of like emergency or any crazy scenario.
- 48:55And I we had bathrooms open to the public.
- 48:59I had to clean shit. Shit like full on people are
- 49:02pooping on the floor, on the sides of the toilet, on the wall
- 49:08like 3 times in the time I live there or work there.
- 49:11The third time was like in the rush of like right before the
- 49:15holiday season and I had already been thinking about like wanting
- 49:18to move somewhere else because I don't want to do retail forever.
- 49:22I already graduated. I got my degree in cinema and
- 49:25film or cinema and TV was not working on that at that point,
- 49:29had no plans in working that. But I'm like I need to, I need
- 49:33to do something new. I cannot do retail forever.
- 49:34It's stressing me out. Yeah, I went into the office, on
- 49:39my office, literally the office computer, and I opened a board
- 49:43and I said I am resigning. I was so dramatic about it too.
- 49:49But honestly at that point I had like 3 or 4 months of just just
- 49:54being miserable about it. So much stuff at that point had
- 49:57just like added on. I was stressed about like, not
- 50:00being where I wanted to be career wise.
- 50:02Yeah, feeling like my talents could be used somewhere else and
- 50:07they're not being as much as at that point I've been promoted
- 50:10twice. But what I realized the only
- 50:12thing coming after that was a manager and their lives are
- 50:16their job and that will never be me.
- 50:20I can give you my 9:00 to 5:00 and a little bit more than that,
- 50:23but I can't be 10:30 PM everyday thinking.
- 50:27Did we make sales? Like how are we with credit
- 50:29cards? How are we for the quarter?
- 50:32I thought you're not living your life.
- 50:35So at that point I'm like, there's nowhere else for me to
- 50:38go. I'm going to I'm going to out
- 50:40the door. I'm quitting.
- 50:41I have nothing lined up, but I'm quitting.
- 50:42I wrote my resignation like, hey, this has been too much low
- 50:46key miserable the last couple weeks, last months.
- 50:48Yeah. So not a you thing because I
- 50:50gave my final notice to the person to I miss her who was
- 50:56manager at the time because we had a great management team, so
- 50:59great that they were pulling them to different areas.
- 51:01Of course, that's what they do. So by the end of it, it was just
- 51:04a whole like mismatch of people in management.
- 51:07Not that I had issues with any of them, like all on their own.
- 51:10They're all great except one. Don't talk to her.
- 51:15The rest of them were great, were great.
- 51:17So to be like, hey lady, yeah, like this is not a you like I've
- 51:23like you helped make this like a fun place to be.
- 51:24And we're so like motivated to to do more.
- 51:27This is too much. And I gave them a three-week
- 51:31notice. More than you should have.
- 51:33And then by this point, COVID had happened.
- 51:36Yeah. I was making so much money with
- 51:39disability or unemployment when I wasn't working for four
- 51:41months. Yeah.
- 51:42For some reason they decided we were a what's the name for
- 51:46businesses that they let them come back to work like?
- 51:53Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Something that was allowed to be
- 51:56open. Not like a like a fundamental,
- 51:58but it was like a. Something along those lines.
- 52:00Yeah, yeah, yeah. They said, oh, no, you you
- 52:03should be selling clothes right now.
- 52:04You definitely everyone at home, but you should be selling
- 52:06clothes. So they made us come back to
- 52:07work really early and weird and never, I had never got COVID.
- 52:13Essential workers. Essential workers, yes.
- 52:16Oh, you're so smart. Yeah, I knew I had the word
- 52:17fundamentals really close to the word I'm looking for anyways.
- 52:20So we were essential workers, but it was Thanksgiving time and
- 52:27like I said, I I was good at the job.
- 52:30I wasn't going to leave them high and dry.
- 52:32So I said here is a three-week notice because like I said, I
- 52:36had nothing lined up. I'll help you work through the
- 52:42week before Black Friday because I was not going to work another
- 52:45holiday week for retail. That's a miserable it's terrible
- 52:51I got COVID. But Brian?
- 52:54So I worked. I turned to my notice like 5
- 52:57days later I got COVID. Yeah, I think it was over
- 52:59Halloween. Yeah, remember the Halloween?
- 53:02I remember all of this. No, I remember all of this,
- 53:04friend. Like I, I was going to butt in
- 53:05and say I remember when all of this was happening through like
- 53:09in like a third party, like information wheel because I
- 53:13didn't really talk to you at the time.
- 53:14No, this is when I was living in Pomona, Yeah.
- 53:16Uh huh. So I would hear the stories and
- 53:18I would be there like, Dang, wow, that sucks.
- 53:21Yeah. Shit, yeah.
- 53:23And then you got COVID. I got COVID.
- 53:24But the amazing thing is I got COVID pay.
- 53:30I got my final check. Another reason why I quit it was
- 53:34it was so hard to take time off as management because there's
- 53:37only like so many other people that can cover you, so you got
- 53:40time off. I had like 100 hours of vacation
- 53:42time. That's fucking crazy.
- 53:43I left that job with thousands of dollars, thousands.
- 53:46My final paycheck. Yeah, I didn't work for like 3
- 53:49months after that dude. As you should have.
- 53:52As you should have. It was hard to find jobs.
- 53:54That was mostly the reason. That too.
- 53:57Yeah, post COVID but that's so wild.
- 54:02It unfortunately led to the most stressful job I've ever had in
- 54:06my life. But I will let you continue
- 54:11wherever you left off. We don't have to do a Part 2
- 54:13because. I was going to say I'm like
- 54:15Brian. I don't think I've scratched the
- 54:17surface, but like, I don't even think I've like.
- 54:20Jerry's next jobs are the ones I'm most excited for.
- 54:23The next ones are like if they just like if they were bad, they
- 54:26just go to worse and then we're back up we're.
- 54:29Back up. We're back up especially.
- 54:31Yeah, love Brian. I think we might have to do a
- 54:34Part 2 to this because yeah, it's actually going to help me
- 54:38remember things because I I started remembering things from
- 54:40like the first job and I'm like, I should have said that.
- 54:42Irrelevant. This next one, I'm going to like
- 54:45put some stuff together because it's so interesting.
- 54:48It's just like it's life and we're only we're in our late
- 54:5120s, we're. In our late 20s and we've lived
- 54:53lifetimes. You know, whereas like, you
- 54:55know, some other generations in the past would would have been
- 54:58like, suck it up. That's what you got to do.
- 55:00Stay in your job for 10-15 years.
- 55:02Hate it, but hey, you got to do it.
- 55:03Make it work. Suck.
- 55:04Yeah, suck it up. So that was a mentality that I
- 55:09did not want to replicate and never want to do.
- 55:13So I think we might need a Part 2 guys.
- 55:15Yeah, Holy shit. You're saying that and I'm
- 55:17thinking now like in the time I've known my parents because
- 55:21like you're only conscience from like maybe the ages of five and
- 55:24up. That a little older for some of
- 55:26us. Some of those are are barely
- 55:29experiencing it now. In our late 20s.
- 55:32My dad had this same job literally until he stopped
- 55:35working. Yeah, and same with my mom.
- 55:38As long as I've been aware of them having jobs, it was the
- 55:41same job. That's like 20 + 30 + 20 plus at
- 55:48least minimum. Yeah, I think my dad worked like
- 55:5015 years at his job, but. I would say that's like what,
- 55:5340% of your life if you have more.
- 55:54Giving to one company? That's crazy.
- 55:57No, but I think the difference is when you go to college, they
- 56:00also kind of give you that mentality of like build your
- 56:03resume, move on. Build your resume, move on.
- 56:07If there is a cap, you shouldn't be there.
- 56:09Yeah, exactly. And you know that right away,
- 56:12like, it doesn't take too long to be like, OK, I can see myself
- 56:15growing here or I'm just, you know, stifled.
- 56:17And I'm not going anywhere. And they're going to keep taking
- 56:20advantage of us. Crazy.
- 56:21Also, at the end of the day, your job does not define you as
- 56:24a person. No.
- 56:25I had a friend that a while ago that was going through like,
- 56:29their master's program. And, like, when I would meet his
- 56:33friends, I felt like a very type of way because they were all,
- 56:39like, Business School students. And this is when I was working
- 56:42in retail. And I was like, I was making my
- 56:43good money as like a manager. Like I was set when I would
- 56:48mention like, oh, are you part of the program?
- 56:50No. Oh, what do you do?
- 56:52I'm like working in retail. Oh, OK.
- 56:53Turns away, walks away, not interested in me because I can't
- 56:57help them in any way in moving on up in their career.
- 57:00Yeah, that's that's too far. Yeah.
- 57:02I don't want to rub elbows with those people.
- 57:10Life, life, this, this, this wasn't a he ha ha episode, but
- 57:15like, it's, it's good to talk about it, you know, it's just, I
- 57:18feel like we've all been through something like that so.
- 57:20Do you guys have terrible jobs or have you had them?
- 57:22Please tell us. I want to know.
- 57:25Or do you love your job? That's true.
- 57:27Have you had the opposite? Where you just like every
- 57:29fucking job I've worked at has been awesome.
- 57:31Or I've been at the same job for like years and I love it.
- 57:34And if so, that's fucking cool and I envy you, but I'm happy
- 57:38for you. Described.
- 57:43Yeah, it's we're all just raindrops on a windshield.
- 57:48True. And we all have different areas
- 57:52of our lives, even like you said, we're in our late 20s.
- 57:54I feel like I've lived four different versions of myself in
- 57:58my 20s. Yeah, the updates have been
- 57:59real. Yeah, the, the, the system
- 58:02updates. It's fucking cool.
- 58:04It's cool. But like I said, I like where
- 58:06we're at now. OK, it's the next next episode
- 58:11will not be work because we already have the next one
- 58:13planned and you guys have homework.
- 58:14True, true. Tell them.
- 58:17Have you guys started heated rivalry on HBO slash Craig?
- 58:24Because if not you have homework because we are coming at you and
- 58:27next week haven't watched up to episode 4.
- 58:30You got 4 episodes. It is an 18 plus show.
- 58:32Do not watch with your parents. Don't watch in the privacy of
- 58:35your own home. Don't even look it up.
- 58:37Just start episode 1. It's.
- 58:39A family friendly show. You can watch it with your
- 58:40parents and family. Teaches you exactly how to try
- 58:43to make a family. Yeah, if you can watch it like
- 58:45in public out loud, do it. I recommend it.
- 58:47Nope. Headphones on in your phone,
- 58:49under the covers, hand in your pants.
- 58:52Be be be mindful of those around you.
- 58:56But yeah, just no fucks giving. Just watch it.
- 58:59All you need to know is hockey. Are you a hockey fan?
- 59:04I am now, I am now love the ducks.
- 59:09Quack. They're right here in Anaheim.
- 59:12Yes, they are. Let's go to game.
- 59:14Let's go. OK, next week we're talking all
- 59:15about sports. Sports we've played, sports
- 59:17Jerry's played and the TV show we're watching.
- 59:21And I'm going to give Jerry a quiz.
- 59:23It's all going to be live at the Honda Center on the ice.
- 59:27We're going to be playing an actual game miked up with
- 59:30Oculus. Oh my God, we have cameras
- 59:36strapped to work for. Fucking cameras are going to be
- 59:38destroyed within the 1st 30 seconds.
- 59:39Let me eat so much shit. And hey, if we end up having a
- 59:42different idea by then, you can't blame us.
- 59:44But that's the plan. You guys have your homework, you
- 59:46need to watch that. This might be the first time we
- 59:48let them know what's going to what's coming.
- 59:50Literally. Yeah, the next episode.
- 59:52Why these are so spoiled? OK, anyways, it's music time,
- 59:58baby. It's music time what you got for
- 1:00:03us. I have one right away.
- 1:00:04I've been listening. I've been hooked.
- 1:00:06So I've I've just been I've been circling through my dragon phase
- 1:00:09again. Fucking love Dragons.
- 1:00:11And by the way, Lucy got me this art piece from some sort of like
- 1:00:14little fair thing that she went to over the weekend.
- 1:00:17It's like this black dragon and she texted me randomly.
- 1:00:20I told you Brian, but she texted me randomly.
- 1:00:22We were playing Fortnite. She said pick a dragon colour
- 1:00:24go. I said Obsidian because I'm
- 1:00:27thinking Dragons loving Obsidian Dragon doesn't answer, leaves me
- 1:00:33on red and I'm like, did I win? And then like maybe 30 minutes
- 1:00:36later she was like, yes. And then she gets home and then
- 1:00:39she whips out this beautiful print of a dragon.
- 1:00:44It's a black dragon. Got no, like no specific
- 1:00:47Obsidian, but it's a black dragon and there's birds like
- 1:00:52he's holding a bird with his finger.
- 1:00:53There's a bird, there's an owl on the bottom.
- 1:00:55It's a beautiful picture of a dragon.
- 1:00:57But anyways, I've been listening to Dio as I do every week.
- 1:01:02DODIO he has an album called Killing the Dragon and a song
- 1:01:06called Killing the dragon. I just want I want Oh, I'm
- 1:01:10playing it. My bad.
- 1:01:11I want everyone to my phone has been acting.
- 1:01:14Look at that. Look at that art like just not.
- 1:01:18The never ending breath of fire. I think my phone's about to die.
- 1:01:21I think that's why it's oh Yep, it's dead.
- 1:01:22My phone died killing the dragon by DIO.
- 1:01:25It is my new obsession this week.
- 1:01:28That's cool, that's cooler than my suggestion.
- 1:01:30This is a song that I started listening to very recently.
- 1:01:34It came up on my Spotify DJ which honestly when it
- 1:01:37recommends new stuff to me it's mostly miss rather than hits.
- 1:01:41Hey, Brian, it's me. Your boy X.
- 1:01:45Your boy. XI usually skip through.
- 1:01:46I'm like I listen to the first like 30 seconds and pass and
- 1:01:50pass and pass. However this one got me.
- 1:01:55I don't listen to a lot of male performers.
- 1:01:59I I listen to maybe like 2, which is Omar Apollo and like
- 1:02:03Bad Bunny, that's it. But this one is by an A singer
- 1:02:09called Omar Rudberg, know nothing about him, don't know
- 1:02:14what he's about, but he has a song called Malandro MALANDRO
- 1:02:19and it's really good. Is it like?
- 1:02:21Is it like Latin pop? I think.
- 1:02:23So it's in English, but I think no parts of it are in Spanish.
- 1:02:28OK, but it's really good. It's like a little dark and a
- 1:02:32little vibey and dancy. I like that vibe.
- 1:02:35Is did you play for me already? I don't think so no, because
- 1:02:39this this is like a recent like just showed up in my things and
- 1:02:43he's not super duper popular. No, he only has 400,000
- 1:02:47listeners. That's that's a lot, Yeah.
- 1:02:50Oh, true true, true in the in the scope.
- 1:02:53Of in the scope of the world, that's not a.
- 1:02:55Lot. That's a lot, right?
- 1:02:56No, that's a different story. Yes, if you had a car.
- 1:03:01Oh, and he's handsome. He looks like a moral.
- 1:03:05I know, I know. That is the same person
- 1:03:09different. Font.
- 1:03:09I have a type I don't know. Yeah, I don't know where he's
- 1:03:13from. It doesn't say on the in the
- 1:03:18description. No, it says nothing.
- 1:03:21It says I'm not Omar Apollo. No, you know how normally
- 1:03:24they'll have like an about? Yeah, like, who is this person?
- 1:03:28They're that low key. He's got an Instagram.
- 1:03:30What's Instagram say, Malandro? There's nothing.
- 1:03:34There's literally nothing there. Oh, followed by Omar Apollo.
- 1:03:38Oh my God. He has a picture with Who is
- 1:03:42this? Zara Larsson?
- 1:03:45Oh he he rolls with LGBT. Anyways, that's all we have.
- 1:03:51What? Was his last name Rudberg?
- 1:03:56Rudberg Sounds. Familiar.
- 1:03:58I don't know. One of these captions is in like
- 1:04:00Turkish. Whoa, maybe Turkish?
- 1:04:02He's from Iceland. Oh, he opened up for Sarah
- 1:04:05Larson. Oh, he knows the old.
- 1:04:08The rest of his music is probably super pop.
- 1:04:10The yo lads, sorry. Oh, he.
- 1:04:12Definitely knows about the Yo lads or not.
- 1:04:14No, no. Maybe because he was just
- 1:04:16touring there that he wrote in that language.
- 1:04:19That's cool. Wow.
- 1:04:20Well, thank you for listening, guys.
- 1:04:23This was a chill episode. I think I'm ready for a nap.
- 1:04:27I am too. I need some coffee.
- 1:04:29I don't. Coffee.
- 1:04:31No. Coffee.
- 1:04:33No coffee. Fine, yes.
- 1:04:36Alright guys, bye. Before he changes the.
- 1:04:38Line bye, bye.
