- 1:22Speaker 2: Right here? I think I'm sicking for you guys.
- 1:28Speaker 3: They have on their green jackets and we have John's
- 1:30Speaker 3: green socks.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Here for Green Socks Day.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Let's talk about that, John before we get into Actually, I.
- 1:37Speaker 4: Want to thank Walmart because Doug McMillan and Julie.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Gersty and all the people in Walmart helped.
- 1:43Speaker 4: Last year, we thought, at a time where no one
- 1:47Speaker 4: seems to agree on anything where you can't have a
- 1:50Speaker 4: conversation that arguing about black and white or red or blue?
- 1:54Speaker 2: Can we disagree on the greed that's now married? And
- 1:59Speaker 2: so Walmart was all in.
- 2:01Speaker 4: They donated the socks last year, thousands of them.
- 2:04Speaker 2: This year another company built made them, preferred by Walmart.
- 2:08Speaker 4: They've donated all the proceeds operation. But basically it's global.
- 2:12Speaker 2: April thirtieth tomorrow tomorrow.
- 2:15Speaker 4: And you put your green socks on, take a photo,
- 2:17Speaker 4: post it online, tag it, and everybody who tags it
- 2:22Speaker 4: and gets posted you'll get all. You'll be able to
- 2:24Speaker 4: do a virtual lunch with me and ask whatever question
- 2:28Speaker 4: you want.
- 2:28Speaker 2: So it's gonna be global.
- 2:30Speaker 4: And we just ring the bell at Nasdak yesterday and
- 2:33Speaker 4: out on our Green Socks Day. We're going back there
- 2:35Speaker 4: in May with some of the top video submitters from
- 2:40Speaker 4: Green Socks Day. We're going to invite them to Wall
- 2:42Speaker 4: Street to ring the bell and Nasdack. So it's pretty cool.
- 2:47Speaker 4: Put on your your green socks tomorrow, buying for Walmart.
- 2:51Speaker 2: You don't have them. That's what I was gonna say.
- 2:53Speaker 2: So they can go into Walmart right now and get
- 2:55Speaker 2: these socks.
- 2:55Speaker 4: They can get green socks. I'm not sure they can
- 2:57Speaker 4: give those. They should be able to.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Okay, all right, everybody, get your green socks and screenshot
- 3:03Speaker 3: them and put him on the ground and you get
- 3:05Speaker 3: a virtual lunch with that man right there and ask
- 3:09Speaker 3: him anything you want to ask him in the financial world.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Before we go any further, I think you guys don't
- 3:16Speaker 4: understand who's here.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Can we do this one more time? By Afony ender O?
- 3:26Speaker 2: Thank you, thank you.
- 3:28Speaker 4: I'm excited to be here, John, honored to be here
- 3:31Speaker 4: with you, and my god coincidence, I was just way
- 3:35Speaker 4: and remaining anonymous.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Yes, sir, that's Andrew Young quote. We're sitting in the
- 3:40Speaker 2: trailer and it's like mind blowing.
- 3:44Speaker 4: How much connective tissue he and I have together so much.
- 3:50Speaker 2: And I'm gonna shut up and let him sort of
- 3:53Speaker 2: tee this up.
- 3:54Speaker 4: But I want to also say that this is the
- 3:58Speaker 4: connection between least culture community in Capitol and this goes
- 4:09Speaker 4: back to Sam Walton. Okay, Sam Walton with a pickup
- 4:14Speaker 4: truck in a storefront in a high school education and
- 4:18Speaker 4: a dream, and he didn't start it for anybody who
- 4:21Speaker 4: is in your forties or in your fifties and you're
- 4:24Speaker 4: wondering if you could make it. He didn't start this
- 4:27Speaker 4: until his mid to late forties. The company went public
- 4:31Speaker 4: in his mid fifties and people had written him off.
- 4:35Speaker 4: In fact, the first store he opened, Anthony, the guy
- 4:38Speaker 4: who was a landlord saw he had a good concept,
- 4:43Speaker 4: stole the business.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Idea from him. Oh I didn't know that.
- 4:46Speaker 4: Yes, his first Walmart store, they stole the business idea,
- 4:50Speaker 4: shut him down. He was undeterred, started another one happened
- 4:55Speaker 4: to be in Bendonville. The person was not in Mindeville.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Oh I didn't know that. Never give up.
- 5:02Speaker 4: And now is the biggest retailer in the world, the
- 5:04Speaker 4: largest employer of African Americans in the world, and smartly
- 5:09Speaker 4: just recently their new CEO, John and we we know
- 5:11Speaker 4: Dougie Millan was amazing.
- 5:13Speaker 2: John Ferner is also great guy.
- 5:15Speaker 4: They recently committed they're not laying people off on it
- 5:18Speaker 4: because of Ai.
- 5:19Speaker 2: They're gonna teach him AI. That's the way too, That's
- 5:22Speaker 2: the way to do it. Uh So to.
- 5:24Speaker 4: Go from that dream to this reality and then to
- 5:28Speaker 4: invite you and me, Yeah, in this conversation. Yeah, and
- 5:33Speaker 4: then for us to have this backstory, it's unbelievable. I
- 5:37Speaker 4: don't know if you want to tell your backstory first
- 5:39Speaker 4: or mind, but let's just get out.
- 5:41Speaker 3: I'll kill mine and they're going to collide, you know.
- 5:43Speaker 3: Speaking of dreams, you know, I was just a kid
- 5:45Speaker 3: with the dream.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Nine years old growing up in Compton, California.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Uh.
- 5:50Speaker 3: And I realized that I was blessed with the gift.
- 5:53Speaker 3: I don't call what I have a talent. I call
- 5:55Speaker 3: what I have a gift, and being blessed with the gift,
- 5:58Speaker 3: it's my responsibility to share this gift that I've been
- 6:01Speaker 3: blessed with with the world.
- 6:03Speaker 2: So I was in the theater.
- 6:05Speaker 3: My mother is a horrible actress, but she was in
- 6:08Speaker 3: the production of A Raisin in the Sun at Compton
- 6:10Speaker 3: Community College. I'm the oldest four children, three boys and
- 6:15Speaker 3: a girl. My sisters the youngest. She wasn't born at
- 6:18Speaker 3: the time. I was nine years old. My next brother
- 6:20Speaker 3: was five, and mother brother and that was three. We're
- 6:25Speaker 3: in the back of the theater and I just happened
- 6:26Speaker 3: to look up on the stage and I see my
- 6:28Speaker 3: mother and rehearsal for raising in the sun, and I say,
- 6:31Speaker 3: that is what I'm going.
- 6:32Speaker 2: To do with the rest of my life. And this
- 6:34Speaker 2: part of the story just speaks to dreams.
- 6:36Speaker 3: And you talk about Sam Walton having his dream, It's
- 6:39Speaker 3: just my dream to be able to do what I'm
- 6:42Speaker 3: doing today, to travel the world, to heal people with
- 6:45Speaker 3: laughter and to entertain. I believe that's what my energy
- 6:49Speaker 3: was put on this earth to do, to entertain.
- 6:52Speaker 2: And just a kid from Compton.
- 6:55Speaker 3: So backstage talking to John, John says, and you don't
- 7:01Speaker 3: know that I'm from Compton, I said, no, I didn't.
- 7:03Speaker 2: He gives his address. He's less than ten minutes away.
- 7:06Speaker 3: From where I grew up in Compton, same neighborhood and
- 7:10Speaker 3: everything yours is a little better, by the way.
- 7:14Speaker 4: Anybody knows counting anybody else if you if you want
- 7:17Speaker 4: other pretty girls who in a stuck on neighborhood, the
- 7:19Speaker 4: Stuckle houses.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Y'all were upscale. Yeah, I'm in the O G Compton. Yeah,
- 7:26Speaker 2: I called a counting.
- 7:27Speaker 4: People are so ported you could afford to o R
- 7:29Speaker 4: this boy.
- 7:30Speaker 2: We were reading go to that. We had the O Rye.
- 7:34Speaker 3: But you know, we were just sharing our experiences backstage,
- 7:37Speaker 3: and you know, we started talking about our grade schools.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Middle school, junior high schools, and we went to the
- 7:42Speaker 2: same schools.
- 7:44Speaker 3: We went to the same junior high school, Wayley Junior
- 7:46Speaker 3: High School in Compton. He's telling me the story how
- 7:49Speaker 3: he went. I said, well, I would have went to Domingus.
- 7:51Speaker 3: He said, Dimingus would have been my high school. He said, well,
- 7:55Speaker 3: I said, well, where did you go to high school?
- 7:56Speaker 3: He said, he went to Hollywood Business School.
- 7:59Speaker 2: And I said, well, I went to.
- 8:00Speaker 3: The Los Angeles County High School for the Performing Arts,
- 8:03Speaker 3: but then I got kicked out and I ended up transferring.
- 8:06Speaker 2: To the Hollywood school that he went to.
- 8:08Speaker 3: And we were just sharing our experiences of catching the
- 8:12Speaker 3: bus to school.
- 8:13Speaker 2: I had to catch the bus two hours each way.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Rough tough and thirty rough trepreneury at the RTV, that's
- 8:18Speaker 3: what we call it. He rode his bike to Hollywood
- 8:22Speaker 3: from thirty ninth to thirty fourth.
- 8:25Speaker 4: Then we moved to thirty fifth in the Western and
- 8:27Speaker 4: I had a drive right from thirty fifth in the
- 8:28Speaker 4: Westerners and my dad wouldn't drive me.
- 8:30Speaker 2: He was working in his own business and right at
- 8:32Speaker 2: the Hollywood Boulevard at the Hollywood Professional School. Yeah, you
- 8:36Speaker 2: guys don't know anything about that.
- 8:37Speaker 3: That's a long bike ride for a thirteen fourteen, fifteen
- 8:41Speaker 3: year old got corect.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Said what I got Jack from? I got Jack from
- 8:45Speaker 2: his next bike on the way home one day. But
- 8:49Speaker 2: the moral of was not the moral of the story.
- 8:51Speaker 3: But the story is his two black men from Compton,
- 8:54Speaker 3: California living the dream and doing the things that we
- 8:56Speaker 3: love to do. I got I used to walk hollyod
- 9:00Speaker 3: Boulevard after high school and say one day I'm going
- 9:03Speaker 3: to have.
- 9:03Speaker 2: A star on Hollywood Boulevard. A few years ago during.
- 9:08Speaker 3: COVID, I got my star on Hollywood Boulevard, on the
- 9:11Speaker 3: corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Island. And as I got
- 9:16Speaker 3: my star, I stood there and looked, literally Walmart is
- 9:22Speaker 3: my high school.
- 9:22Speaker 2: This is my star. Here.
- 9:24Speaker 3: I'm looking at my high school and remembering the dream
- 9:27Speaker 3: and the manifestation that I had at seventeen years old
- 9:31Speaker 3: and say, one day I'm going to have this.
- 9:33Speaker 2: And I got it. And I got to stand there
- 9:35Speaker 2: as it was.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Being installed into the ground and look and saw where
- 9:39Speaker 3: that dream started, literally across the street from me. So
- 9:43Speaker 3: you know, we talk about dreams, we talk about passion,
- 9:47Speaker 3: we talk about manifestation. We talk about all those things,
- 9:50Speaker 3: or at least that's what I do. And I'm a
- 9:52Speaker 3: living testament to dreams coming true. If you put in
- 9:57Speaker 3: the hard work, and if you make the sac and
- 10:00Speaker 3: if you believe, and if you surround yourself with the
- 10:03Speaker 3: right people, anything is possible.
- 10:06Speaker 2: As God is good. We're a going to have church
- 10:08Speaker 2: in here today. Look, this is really quite a man.
- 10:13Speaker 4: This may be You're going to be part of the
- 10:17Speaker 4: Money and Wealth podcast is my podcast on iHeartRadio and
- 10:21Speaker 4: Black Effect Network with Charlemagne Like God, and we're one
- 10:24Speaker 4: top one percent podcast in the world.
- 10:27Speaker 2: So this might be.
- 10:30Speaker 4: The most interesting, inspiring, and certainly the most real episode
- 10:37Speaker 4: in three seasons I've ever done, because I'm not often surprised.
- 10:44Speaker 4: I come prepared, yes, and I was completely floored by
- 10:52Speaker 4: not only our conversation and the backstory, but the improbability
- 10:59Speaker 4: of the coincident, which means it's all God and it's.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Meant to inspire you because you can't make this up,
- 11:07Speaker 2: not at all, or.
- 11:11Speaker 4: Did everything that I'm gonna say, And a lot of
- 11:14Speaker 4: what Anthony's going to say has never been said before.
- 11:18Speaker 4: I'm never I know for me, I've never repeated what
- 11:20Speaker 4: I'm about to tell you now. So, Anthony, I didn't
- 11:26Speaker 4: tell you that I was nine years old and confident.
- 11:29Speaker 4: You said you were nine. I didn't tell you that
- 11:34Speaker 4: I went to school and this banker came and taught
- 11:39Speaker 4: me financial literacy. And I asked him just to cut
- 11:43Speaker 4: to the chase of the story, because he came once
- 11:46Speaker 4: a week for six weeks.
- 11:47Speaker 2: What do you do for a living? And how did
- 11:49Speaker 2: you get rich legally?
- 11:53Speaker 4: I was dead serious. What do you do and how'd
- 11:56Speaker 4: you get rich legally? A beautiful suit and stitching?
- 12:01Speaker 2: What do you do?
- 12:01Speaker 4: He said, I'm a banker and our finance entrepreneurs. I said,
- 12:04Speaker 4: I don't know what an entrepreneur is, but if it's legal, yeah,
- 12:07Speaker 4: and you're financing it, I'm gonna be one.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Yes. And I went home and opened the dictionary. It's
- 12:14Speaker 2: a Google search today to the word.
- 12:16Speaker 4: And by the way, if you were in Counton or
- 12:18Speaker 4: South Central, you had if your parents were aspirational, you
- 12:22Speaker 4: had a Encyclopedia.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Partaking Encyclopedia book. Queen used to walk door to door
- 12:28Speaker 2: to settlement. My mom and daddy Baltimore.
- 12:30Speaker 4: Yes, and you never opened it, but everybody had it,
- 12:35Speaker 4: and you couldn't sit on the on the couch because
- 12:37Speaker 4: it was coming with plastic.
- 12:38Speaker 2: That is the got me cut you off. That is
- 12:41Speaker 2: the book that I looked in when I saw Atlanta
- 12:44Speaker 2: for the first time, and I said, that's where I
- 12:45Speaker 2: want to move it.
- 12:46Speaker 3: Going back to Yes, Well, I told you right before
- 12:48Speaker 3: we walked down stats that is where I saw the picture.
- 12:51Speaker 1: This is Yes.
- 12:52Speaker 4: So so I said, you know, if you fall asleep
- 12:55Speaker 4: on your mother's upholstery with that plastic on it, your face.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Is glued on the side of the of the couch.
- 13:03Speaker 2: And I get amen, Amen, So you up your hat, your.
- 13:07Speaker 4: Face, you get your slide outside of your mouth. And
- 13:10Speaker 4: I see this inside of Pedia Fortetica. Pull it out
- 13:13Speaker 4: and I opened it to the word entrepreneur, frinch, word
- 13:16Speaker 4: bill create something or.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Nothing, just like Sam Walton did. And I go, I'm
- 13:21Speaker 2: reading this and God, that's me. That's what I want
- 13:24Speaker 2: to do.
- 13:25Speaker 4: So I'm walking down the street now, going back to school,
- 13:28Speaker 4: and I see them the muffler shop. That's a business,
- 13:32Speaker 4: and I see the nail salon, that's a business. I
- 13:35Speaker 4: see the barber shop. That's a business. But I see
- 13:38Speaker 4: the grocery you little grocery store. By the way, what
- 13:40Speaker 4: me to Walmart has done. It's taking all those and
- 13:42Speaker 4: roll them up and do a new kind of business.
- 13:44Speaker 2: And I said, my god, they're all around us. This
- 13:47Speaker 2: is capitalism. He's are owners, and I want to be
- 13:51Speaker 2: an owner.
- 13:51Speaker 4: So I went later on, I went to the back
- 13:56Speaker 4: of the banker and I said, he said, you know,
- 13:58Speaker 4: the next week because he didn't want to be there.
- 14:00Speaker 4: He said, you know, you kids, you're not so bad.
- 14:02Speaker 4: Remind me and my kids. I said, well, you're not
- 14:05Speaker 4: so bad for a white dude. And we started building
- 14:08Speaker 4: a relationship. And then he started teaching this about free
- 14:11Speaker 4: enterprise of capitalism. And I went home and I saw
- 14:14Speaker 4: the liquor store so candy. I told my mother I
- 14:17Speaker 4: wanted to start a.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Business to put the liquor store out of the candy business.
- 14:21Speaker 2: She loaned me.
- 14:22Speaker 4: She's my first banker. Loan me the money, and I
- 14:24Speaker 4: make a long story short, put them out of the
- 14:27Speaker 4: candy business. I was nine years old. I got that idea.
- 14:30Speaker 2: I was ten years old. I put them out of business,
- 14:33Speaker 2: and then I got on that.
- 14:34Speaker 4: Then I moved to South Central to my dad's house,
- 14:37Speaker 4: and that's where I rode the bus to Hollywood professional school,
- 14:40Speaker 4: and you had a similar story of ambition and aspiration,
- 14:44Speaker 4: and you rode the bus further than me.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Now let's fast forward to our adulthood.
- 14:49Speaker 4: Now he's going to do an event for one of
- 14:52Speaker 4: these lovely ladies who year for Walmart. And I'm not
- 14:57Speaker 4: gonna tell his story, but he ends up at because
- 15:00Speaker 4: the airline loses his luggage. Now I'm invited by Douging
- 15:05Speaker 4: Millan to speak at one of their events, and we
- 15:10Speaker 4: take Helton and from Atlanta and somehow because no.
- 15:15Speaker 2: No, no, I'm sorry, no no. I was going to
- 15:17Speaker 2: meet some billionaires in the middle of the country.
- 15:20Speaker 4: There's another trip, but he had to take two different
- 15:22Speaker 4: connections and they lost my luggage and the connection. When
- 15:25Speaker 4: I get off, I have nothing, so I tell the
- 15:28Speaker 4: driver hide me a Walmart. I'm sure there's a Walmart somewhere.
- 15:33Speaker 4: I need one open at midnight, so it's by her superstore.
- 15:37Speaker 4: I go in and I have nothing, So we go
- 15:40Speaker 4: and get the toiletries and the underwear and the socks. Yes,
- 15:43Speaker 4: he's a Walmart socks here, and we go and get
- 15:46Speaker 4: everything and clothes, everything to go meet these millionaires.
- 15:50Speaker 2: I'm trying to do some business and my wife has
- 15:52Speaker 2: to get her stuff. So we go dress up. Look great.
- 15:56Speaker 2: I still wear those clothes this day. I set a
- 15:57Speaker 2: photo to Dougan Villain. I wasn't as smart as you.
- 16:02Speaker 4: Okay, now what's your Is your story somewhat similar but
- 16:07Speaker 4: just better?
- 16:08Speaker 2: My story is somewhat similar.
- 16:11Speaker 3: I was invited to come down to Bittonville to speak
- 16:14Speaker 3: at the Saturday morning meeting for all the Walmart employees.
- 16:18Speaker 3: I was not to put anybody on the last I
- 16:21Speaker 3: was promised the Walmart jet. You know that would gonna happen.
- 16:25Speaker 4: Yeah, Walmarts you yeah, I mean, I mean cost conscience,
- 16:29Speaker 4: I mean very smart.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:31Speaker 2: So one day before the jet was supposed.
- 16:33Speaker 3: To pick me up, I get the call to say
- 16:36Speaker 3: the jet is double books.
- 16:38Speaker 2: So they were like, well, you don't have to come.
- 16:40Speaker 2: I say no, no, it's all about building relationships. I said,
- 16:42Speaker 2: I don't need a jet to get to pitch slow.
- 16:46Speaker 4: You hear what you just said, relationship capital.
- 16:50Speaker 2: If you hang around nine pro people, you'll.
- 16:52Speaker 4: Be the two true amen and the opposite. That's also true.
- 16:58Speaker 2: So here's a star. He's a legit global star who's
- 17:02Speaker 2: now saying, wait.
- 17:03Speaker 4: A minute, I'm trying to go from the camera to
- 17:06Speaker 4: the business. Yes, sir, so he needs relationships on the
- 17:10Speaker 4: business side, okay.
- 17:12Speaker 3: And I realized that's what it was all about. It's
- 17:15Speaker 3: about relationships.
- 17:16Speaker 2: I was like, that's fine.
- 17:17Speaker 3: I'm not upset that I don't have a gent. I'll
- 17:19Speaker 3: get there commercially. They're like, we'll pay for your ticket,
- 17:22Speaker 3: so they put me on a Delta flight. Delta flight
- 17:25Speaker 3: is direct from LA to Bittonville. I get to Bittonville,
- 17:29Speaker 3: my clothes.
- 17:30Speaker 2: End up in Dallas. I don't know how that happens.
- 17:33Speaker 3: So on the way to the hotel, the Saturday morning
- 17:37Speaker 3: meeting is first thing in the morning.
- 17:39Speaker 2: I have no idea if I'm going to have clothes
- 17:41Speaker 2: to wear.
- 17:42Speaker 3: So I have my driver take me to a Walmart supercenter.
- 17:46Speaker 3: I go in there, group of girls out there raising
- 17:49Speaker 3: money from back to school or back to school program
- 17:52Speaker 3: and back to school supplies. I say, I will give
- 17:54Speaker 3: you one hundred dollars, but you're going to have to
- 17:55Speaker 3: work for it. I talk to the teachers and then
- 17:57Speaker 3: their parents, and it's like, that's fine. I go into Walmart.
- 18:00Speaker 3: I bought everything that I need toiletry, socks, draws, t shirts,
- 18:04Speaker 3: everything that I need clothes for the next morning, because
- 18:07Speaker 3: I have no idea if my luggage is going to ride.
- 18:11Speaker 3: I then take all of the supplies and the Walmart
- 18:15Speaker 3: employee and I go to the home and garden section
- 18:18Speaker 3: and I sit on one of those lawnmowers that you
- 18:21Speaker 3: drive yourself. I have a thirteen foot canoe behind me.
- 18:24Speaker 3: I have all of the other lawn supplies around me,
- 18:27Speaker 3: and I have all of the girls from the middle
- 18:28Speaker 3: school hold an item that I bought in the store.
- 18:32Speaker 3: I have someone film it, and I say, unfortunately, the airline.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Lost my luggage.
- 18:37Speaker 3: But fortunately for me, there's a Walmart wherever I go,
- 18:41Speaker 3: and I can buy socks, I can buy draws, I
- 18:43Speaker 3: can buy toothpaste, I can buy mouthwash.
- 18:45Speaker 2: I can even buy this lawnmower in this canoe if
- 18:51Speaker 2: I wanted to.
- 18:52Speaker 3: And even while I'm there, I can donate to the
- 18:55Speaker 3: Saint Mary's School for Girls. And when I say that,
- 18:57Speaker 3: we all say thank you Walmart.
- 19:00Speaker 2: I take that video. This is just for fun for me.
- 19:03Speaker 2: I give it to Shiranda.
- 19:05Speaker 3: It's lady right here stating in the black who used
- 19:07Speaker 3: to work for Walmart. He was responsible for my relationship
- 19:10Speaker 3: with Walmart. I give it to her, and I say
- 19:13Speaker 3: this is how I want to be brought onto stage
- 19:16Speaker 3: at the Saturday morning meeting.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Everybody, please pay attention to what comes next this.
- 19:21Speaker 3: I have no idea what the Saturday morning meeting is
- 19:25Speaker 3: other than it's just all of the employees in the
- 19:28Speaker 3: Bittonville area coming to this Saturday morning meeting. Fifteen hundred employees.
- 19:33Speaker 3: The CEOs, all the CEO, CEO, CMO, all of the
- 19:39Speaker 3: olds of Walmart are there. Sharanda plays the video. I
- 19:45Speaker 3: come on stage. The crowd goes wild. Not only did
- 19:49Speaker 3: they go wild for me, but they went wild because
- 19:51Speaker 3: Lenny Kravitz was there on stage with me as well.
- 19:54Speaker 3: I tend to think they were screaming for me. I
- 19:57Speaker 3: agree with you, Yeah, thank you. So at the end
- 20:00Speaker 3: the day, I see Sharonda huddled with the CEOs, the
- 20:03Speaker 3: CMO and all of these people I don't know who
- 20:07Speaker 3: they are. And she comes to me and she says, Anthony,
- 20:11Speaker 3: they fucked or they asked me the question, when did
- 20:15Speaker 3: we send a film crew to film Anthony at a Walmart.
- 20:19Speaker 3: Sharonda says, we didn't. The airline actually lost his luggage,
- 20:25Speaker 3: so he went to Walmart and filmed that on his
- 20:28Speaker 3: own and just wanted us to bring.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Him on stage with that.
- 20:32Speaker 3: Because of that little thing that I did, the CEO
- 20:35Speaker 3: of Walmart at the time gave me their holiday campaign
- 20:39Speaker 3: on the spot, and I ended up shooting fifty six
- 20:43Speaker 3: commercials for Walmart that holiday season, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year,
- 20:50Speaker 3: all because of the relationship that I wanted to build
- 20:55Speaker 3: with this company that we're sending here for right now.
- 20:58Speaker 2: And you're giving spirit and my givings. Bill, you didn't
- 21:02Speaker 2: have your handout. Well, I transactional. It wasn't about what
- 21:05Speaker 2: you have to get. It is what you had to give, exactly.
- 21:08Speaker 2: And whatever goes around comes around.
- 21:11Speaker 4: So relationships are really important. And he did the right
- 21:17Speaker 4: thing because it was the right thing, not because of
- 21:20Speaker 4: what he thought he was going to get. And as
- 21:22Speaker 4: a result of that, the universe rewarded him with this
- 21:26Speaker 4: incredible opportunity and why he's filming Blackish, which.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Is an incredible hit.
- 21:32Speaker 4: He then has to go to another studio in Hollywood
- 21:36Speaker 4: to film the commercials for three weeks, two weeks.
- 21:39Speaker 2: Two weeks, fourteen days.
- 21:41Speaker 3: This was the first year of Blackish, and the same
- 21:43Speaker 3: time I got to the holiday campaign from Walmart, I'm
- 21:48Speaker 3: shooting fourteen to sixteen hours a day on Blackish. As
- 21:51Speaker 3: soon as I finished work, I had to go to
- 21:53Speaker 3: a different studio to shoot another twelve hours a day
- 21:57Speaker 3: to shoot these Walmart commercials.
- 21:59Speaker 2: So for two weeks straight, I never went home. I
- 22:03Speaker 2: was in between two studios, in two dressing rooms.
- 22:06Speaker 3: And that is about dedication and it's about passion.
- 22:12Speaker 2: But that is what happened for me, and that is
- 22:14Speaker 2: part of the story.
- 22:15Speaker 3: And this took place back in twenty thirteen and here
- 22:20Speaker 3: we are in twenty twenty six. I still have this
- 22:23Speaker 3: relationship with Walmart. Cedric the entertainer and I was start
- 22:27Speaker 3: of the Barbecue Lifestyle Company. And when I did, I
- 22:31Speaker 3: called up Doug McMillan, who was the CEO at the time.
- 22:34Speaker 2: He remembered me.
- 22:35Speaker 3: I remember with him when he was just an associated Walmart.
- 22:39Speaker 3: He is now the CEO. I have seasonings, barbecue seasings,
- 22:43Speaker 3: and barbecue sauces that I'm trying to get into the
- 22:46Speaker 3: marketplace because he remembered me and what I did that
- 22:50Speaker 3: day at the Saturday morning meeting. He gave me two
- 22:53Speaker 3: thousand stores to put my barbecue seasonings and sauces in
- 22:58Speaker 3: the stores. And as a result of that, we now
- 23:02Speaker 3: have me and Cedric's cookbook ac Barbecue, the Husky and
- 23:07Speaker 3: Handsome Gud the Grilling in Walmart stores. Now Seed also
- 23:12Speaker 3: has his mother's wine in Walmart stores. So it's all
- 23:17Speaker 3: about relationships and the equity that you put into that.
- 23:21Speaker 3: Not going into it thinking it's a transactional thing, but
- 23:25Speaker 3: to build a relationship based on you know, brand recognition,
- 23:30Speaker 3: passion and belief and understanding.
- 23:33Speaker 4: Yes, I mean I have now that you're saying this,
- 23:36Speaker 4: I have spoken for Walmart a number of times.
- 23:39Speaker 2: I've never talked to them about my commercial rates or
- 23:42Speaker 2: that kind of stuff.
- 23:43Speaker 4: They has to come do it the good of my community,
- 23:45Speaker 4: the good of my philanthropy operation.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Hope. I see the sincerity. Dog's my friend.
- 23:52Speaker 4: Yeah, sure, I'm happy to show up and having nothing
- 23:55Speaker 4: to do with that in my mind. Here they go
- 23:58Speaker 4: supporting my work in around financial literacy, and we're supporting my.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Work around my books.
- 24:05Speaker 4: And it's not connected, but it's connected. Yes, you don't
- 24:09Speaker 4: do it seeking an outcome. You understand what I'm saying.
- 24:13Speaker 4: You're about the inputs. It's about what you give, not
- 24:16Speaker 4: what you get. Another thing that Anthony has said that
- 24:19Speaker 4: I want you to understand. Only in the dictionary does
- 24:23Speaker 4: the word success come before the word work because it's
- 24:28Speaker 4: alphabetical every place else, work comes before first.
- 24:35Speaker 2: So he put in the work he put This is
- 24:38Speaker 2: which is the stories you don't hear, the stuff that
- 24:40Speaker 2: happens behind the camera, behind the scenes.
- 24:44Speaker 4: The meetings with Walmart executives, the meetings with the community,
- 24:47Speaker 4: the stuff he does with Century the entertainer and others
- 24:50Speaker 4: that nobody sees.
- 24:51Speaker 2: That has the value because it shows its character. What
- 24:55Speaker 2: we did coming up, taking the busy from Compton to
- 24:59Speaker 2: pursu our dreams.
- 25:01Speaker 4: And by the way, let me tell you how much
- 25:02Speaker 4: if this is an impossibility, there's only two hundred people
- 25:07Speaker 4: that went to Hollywood Professional School. I have never met
- 25:11Speaker 4: another person in my adult life that went the Hollywood
- 25:15Speaker 4: Professional School's statistically almost impossible.
- 25:19Speaker 2: This ain't digging me on the planet. The fact that
- 25:21Speaker 2: he and I were both were lived.
- 25:24Speaker 4: In Compton, California, within fiver ten minutes from each other.
- 25:27Speaker 4: We both at nine years old, triggered our passions. Our
- 25:31Speaker 4: mothers were the instigators of that.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Yes, we caught the bus.
- 25:36Speaker 4: To Hollywood from Compton and pursued our dreams and turned
- 25:42Speaker 4: our so called negatives into positives. I mentioned that the
- 25:46Speaker 4: banker was a white dude. I have no problem with
- 25:49Speaker 4: white people. That was a positive experience because he we
- 25:53Speaker 4: teased each other, but we built a relationship and a
- 25:56Speaker 4: rapport and now I.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Can flow through I'm by Lincoln. Yes we are.
- 26:05Speaker 4: We're multi linguals.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Yes.
- 26:06Speaker 4: And so you had that same experience when you had
- 26:09Speaker 4: in Hollywood. You had to change your language. You could
- 26:12Speaker 4: not be living in a surviving mindset. You had to
- 26:16Speaker 4: be in a thriving and a building mindset.
- 26:19Speaker 2: Yes, all these subtle things.
- 26:22Speaker 4: I hope you're getting it, because this is really what
- 26:25Speaker 4: success requires, the right mind set. Money is under overvalue.
- 26:33Speaker 4: Getting that bad, getting that dollar, getting that cash useless, ridiculous,
- 26:37Speaker 4: make change of value. You build wealth in your sleep, Yeah,
- 26:41Speaker 4: you make money during the day. You build wealth in
- 26:44Speaker 4: your sleep.
- 26:48Speaker 2: And so Anthony, yes, the first time you gotta check, yes,
- 26:53Speaker 2: a big one. Did you lose your mind or did
- 26:57Speaker 2: you do it? I mean, what was that experience? Like?
- 26:59Speaker 3: No, I didn't, I didn't move my mind that the
- 27:03Speaker 3: you know, it was always survival mode. And even when
- 27:07Speaker 3: I was working early as an actor, you know, coming
- 27:10Speaker 3: from nothing, and I had experiences where I got to
- 27:13Speaker 3: watch people lose everything, so.
- 27:16Speaker 2: I didn't want that experience to be for me.
- 27:18Speaker 3: I like beautiful things, I like big things, I like
- 27:21Speaker 3: expensive things. But I didn't want to fall into that trap.
- 27:25Speaker 3: So when I got the first my first big check,
- 27:29Speaker 3: I went and bought me a piece of property. I
- 27:31Speaker 3: bought my first home. I bought my first home for
- 27:34Speaker 3: my family. I didn't waste it on cars. I didn't
- 27:37Speaker 3: waste it on anything. I spent my money on something
- 27:40Speaker 3: that was going to grow in value. Where'd that maturity
- 27:43Speaker 3: comes from? What were you signaling your parents, your uncle, who?
- 27:48Speaker 3: Or what in the was it in the back of
- 27:50Speaker 3: your mind that got the fog out and you decided
- 27:53Speaker 3: you're gonna win the war, not just the battle. I
- 27:56Speaker 3: think watching other people's failures. I think that's where it
- 28:01Speaker 3: came from.
- 28:02Speaker 2: I think the fact that my parents lost.
- 28:07Speaker 3: Our first home to foreclosure. I didn't want that to happen, yeah,
- 28:12Speaker 3: to me and to my family. I just learned from experiences.
- 28:17Speaker 3: I had friends in the industry who were on top
- 28:19Speaker 3: of the world, and now they were, you know.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Begging Paul to pay Peter.
- 28:24Speaker 3: I didn't want to fall into that, and I just
- 28:27Speaker 3: wanted to be smart about the money that I was
- 28:30Speaker 3: making now because where we come from, we're never taught
- 28:35Speaker 3: financial literacy.
- 28:36Speaker 2: That's right.
- 28:36Speaker 3: We're not taught financial literacy. We're not we're not taught
- 28:42Speaker 3: generational wealth. We're not taught any of those things. And
- 28:45Speaker 3: I still didn't learn those things until later on in
- 28:48Speaker 3: life for me, even after I had become successful.
- 28:52Speaker 2: So those are things that I'm learning now. So it's
- 28:55Speaker 2: fortuitous that you and I met a couple of weeks ago.
- 28:57Speaker 3: In Atlanta, and then I went to you and say, John,
- 28:59Speaker 3: you gonna be a Walmrans Like I don't know what
- 29:01Speaker 3: my schedules like. I was like, no, you're gonna be
- 29:03Speaker 3: a Walmart, you know, selling your book and doing your podcast.
- 29:07Speaker 2: Is I'll be there selling my.
- 29:08Speaker 3: Book and doing your podcast. And so here we are
- 29:11Speaker 3: today talking to you. So I have a lot of
- 29:13Speaker 3: questions I'm going to ask you, you know, probably on
- 29:15Speaker 3: this sage and even after this, uh, just about you know,
- 29:19Speaker 3: financial literacy and building that wealth for my grandchildren's grandchildren,
- 29:24Speaker 3: because that's what it's all about.
- 29:26Speaker 4: Well, I mean honored to answer them, but I'm gonna
- 29:27Speaker 4: tell you what you've already. You've inspired me, and you
- 29:30Speaker 4: did I'm a little I never used this word. Ever,
- 29:34Speaker 4: I'm a little jealous of something.
- 29:36Speaker 2: You said, what's that? And you did that? I didn't.
- 29:39Speaker 4: I want to. I'm trying to get I'm trying not
- 29:41Speaker 4: to get emotional here. That banker changed my life. Yeah,
- 29:51Speaker 4: he happened to be Caucasian. The teachers changed my life.
- 29:54Speaker 4: There are all racists, my elementary school, middle school teachers.
- 30:00Speaker 2: I wanted to say thank you.
- 30:01Speaker 4: Ever, since I didn't get the business card, I didn't
- 30:06Speaker 4: get their numbers, I didn't remember their names.
- 30:08Speaker 2: I was moving so fast and going back.
- 30:13Speaker 4: There was no internet back then, there was no digitization,
- 30:16Speaker 4: so the records are almost nonexistent.
- 30:18Speaker 2: And it hurts my heart that I can't go back
- 30:22Speaker 2: and say thank you. You change because of you.
- 30:25Speaker 4: I stepped on a ledge called opportunity for myself and
- 30:29Speaker 4: I never looked back.
- 30:31Speaker 2: And a lot of my friends, our friends, prison of probation, parole,
- 30:34Speaker 2: in death. Yes, and we have to carry their names
- 30:37Speaker 2: and their legacies for it because the world has forgotten
- 30:39Speaker 2: about it. Yes, sir, And.
- 30:42Speaker 4: You told me you know the name of the teacher
- 30:47Speaker 4: who taught you at Hollywood Professional School and another school
- 30:51Speaker 4: you went to.
- 30:52Speaker 2: You're still connected to him.
- 30:53Speaker 4: You know these names and these histories, and so I have,
- 30:57Speaker 4: in my later years documented everything. So I don't miss
- 31:02Speaker 4: the opportunity to go back and say thank you to everybody. Black, white, red, brown, yellow, male, female.
- 31:07Speaker 4: I want everybody to know you're part of my story
- 31:10Speaker 4: and I'm part of yours. So just real respect. You
- 31:12Speaker 4: also remind me of Quincy Jones.
- 31:16Speaker 2: And Stevie Wonder. These are friends of mine. And in
- 31:20Speaker 2: the sense that you're both.
- 31:22Speaker 4: You're a right brain genius, like you're creative genius. Everybody
- 31:26Speaker 4: knows you from stage and comedy and movies and TV.
- 31:30Speaker 4: But you also are a good business man. I can
- 31:33Speaker 4: know that just by talking to you. You're also a listener.
- 31:38Speaker 4: You have both right brain and left brain. That's a
- 31:41Speaker 4: very unique combination.
- 31:44Speaker 2: Okay, and I commend you, thank you for that. Yes,
- 31:48Speaker 2: you know, just such fun those who we think. I'm
- 31:51Speaker 2: still in contact with those teachers I know. Yeah. Gails
- 31:55Speaker 2: Fan was my twelfth grade.
- 31:57Speaker 3: English teacher at Hollywood, and she was a woman that
- 32:01Speaker 3: my teacher who believed in me. And I remember sitting
- 32:03Speaker 3: in her class one day and she said, Anthony, where
- 32:05Speaker 3: are you applying to college?
- 32:07Speaker 2: I hadn't even thought about college at that time, and
- 32:09Speaker 2: I was like, I don't know, miss man. She said,
- 32:12Speaker 2: I think you would be a good fit at Howard University.
- 32:15Speaker 3: So that was the only college that I applied to,
- 32:18Speaker 3: and I got accepted and I received my degree from
- 32:21Speaker 3: Howard University.
- 32:22Speaker 2: By the way, went back to school.
- 32:27Speaker 4: Now he goes back to school and to Howard University
- 32:31Speaker 4: to get his degree.
- 32:32Speaker 2: He's making smart sexty again. Yeah.
- 32:35Speaker 3: No, I you know, it's crazy because I had to
- 32:38Speaker 3: leave after my junior year due to financial hardships. Okay,
- 32:42Speaker 3: and and then I came home and you know, went
- 32:45Speaker 3: to junior college at home in Compton because I wanted
- 32:47Speaker 3: to keep my mind active because I had every intention
- 32:50Speaker 3: on returning back to Howard to finish my senior year.
- 32:53Speaker 3: And then my career took off. You know, my career
- 32:56Speaker 3: took off. I started a family, and then I just
- 32:59Speaker 3: didn't have the time. Well, in twenty eighteen, my son
- 33:02Speaker 3: got accepted to Howard University. Nice and I told him,
- 33:05Speaker 3: I said, you know what, son, I'm going to walk
- 33:08Speaker 3: with you in twenty twenty two. I only have a
- 33:11Speaker 3: year left at fifteen credits to complete. I could do
- 33:15Speaker 3: that in four years. So in twenty twenty two, I
- 33:18Speaker 3: went back to school and I was able to walk
- 33:21Speaker 3: and get my degree from Howard University. Yeah, and even
- 33:26Speaker 3: before that, I also have two doctorates now.
- 33:28Speaker 2: I received a.
- 33:29Speaker 3: Doctorate from Talladega College, University.
- 33:31Speaker 2: And Virginia Union as well.
- 33:35Speaker 3: So you know, education is an important part of my
- 33:40Speaker 3: life and from my family. I would have been the
- 33:42Speaker 3: first person to graduate college in my family, and so
- 33:46Speaker 3: it was disappointing to me when I didn't finish in
- 33:49Speaker 3: nineteen ninety two. So that's why I have a foundation
- 33:54Speaker 3: called the Anderson Family Foundation, where my eighth year now
- 33:58Speaker 3: and so for the last two years I've reached dedicated
- 34:00Speaker 3: my foundation to raising scholarship funds pursuit at Howard University.
- 34:04Speaker 4: Nice rainbows after storms, Anthony, yes, sah, and not have
- 34:08Speaker 4: a rainbow without a storm exactly. First, are you guys
- 34:12Speaker 4: starting in the audience, are you getting the memo that
- 34:15Speaker 4: you can do this?
- 34:17Speaker 1: Absolutely?
- 34:18Speaker 4: I mean, by the way, if you work at Walmart,
- 34:22Speaker 4: Walmart's not compensating me to say this. I'm under no contractual,
- 34:27Speaker 4: They're not sponsoring nothing. Let me tell you you can
- 34:30Speaker 4: work at Walmart and make fifty to one hundred thousand
- 34:33Speaker 4: dollars as a store manager. Many are making five hundred
- 34:38Speaker 4: thousand dollars a year as a store manager with a.
- 34:43Speaker 2: High school education.
- 34:45Speaker 4: So whether it's working here, are you using your community
- 34:49Speaker 4: as a catalyst to go pursue your dreams as we have.
- 34:53Speaker 4: Are you getting the memo that you can go from
- 34:55Speaker 4: the streets to the suites?
- 34:58Speaker 2: I mean, there's a reason that I mean over.
- 35:00Speaker 3: The years, over the last thirteen years that I've been in.
- 35:04Speaker 2: Partnership with Walmart.
- 35:05Speaker 3: There here's a reason that these employees have been here
- 35:08Speaker 3: twenty thirty forty years.
- 35:11Speaker 2: You know, you're not just here punching the clock. Tis
- 35:13Speaker 2: because oh it's a paycheck.
- 35:15Speaker 3: You know, it's a community that they're part of, and
- 35:17Speaker 3: there's a reason that they're here in this community.
- 35:20Speaker 4: So let's get into the problem we won't have is
- 35:24Speaker 4: we will run out of time evenore we run out
- 35:25Speaker 4: of question?
- 35:26Speaker 2: See there, how are you tell them on the five?
- 35:27Speaker 3: Are you guys enjoying the how the time we don't
- 35:29Speaker 3: have trying to.
- 35:30Speaker 2: Find many minutes started? Even what we want to come
- 35:35Speaker 2: to you? John, it's crazy because you mentioned that you said.
- 35:39Speaker 3: You wanted to at nine years old, you wanted to
- 35:42Speaker 3: put the candy store out of business.
- 35:44Speaker 2: This was my hustle. In junior high school.
- 35:47Speaker 3: There used to be magazines called right On and Word Magazine.
- 35:51Speaker 2: Yeah, i'gree you gonna come yeah right On all the time.
- 35:54Speaker 2: So I would go by the magazine, and the magazines
- 35:59Speaker 2: were like a dollar dollar ninety five at the time.
- 36:03Speaker 3: Michael Jackson was huge at the time. Michael Jackson was
- 36:05Speaker 3: on the cover, and they were whoever was the hottest
- 36:07Speaker 3: thing of it. So I would get the magazines.
- 36:09Speaker 2: I would spending my dollar dollar fifty on the magazine.
- 36:12Speaker 2: I would bring it to school.
- 36:14Speaker 3: People wanted the pictures out of the magazine. I had
- 36:20Speaker 3: the foresight to get the magazine and cut them out
- 36:23Speaker 3: and sell the pictures for three dollars a piece. Wow,
- 36:28Speaker 3: they could have went and bought the magazine.
- 36:30Speaker 2: For a dollar.
- 36:32Speaker 3: I cut out one Michael Jackson picture and sold it
- 36:35Speaker 3: for free, which means I could go by another three
- 36:39Speaker 3: magazines and triple that money.
- 36:42Speaker 2: That's right.
- 36:42Speaker 3: So that was my business acumen growing up as a kid.
- 36:51Speaker 3: You know, when we first met, you asked me this
- 36:53Speaker 3: question is I'm going to close it to you? You
- 36:55Speaker 3: asked me what am I passionate about it? So I'm
- 36:58Speaker 3: gonna ask you, what are you passionate about John changing
- 37:03Speaker 3: the world.
- 37:04Speaker 4: In my lifetime, finishing the unfinished work of doctor Margaret
- 37:10Speaker 4: the King Jr. Which, when he was assassinated was a
- 37:13Speaker 4: poor people's campaign. Yes, and that was about poor blacks
- 37:16Speaker 4: and poor whites and poor Latinos and everybody left behind
- 37:20Speaker 4: and connecting them to the economy. He had integrated the
- 37:24Speaker 4: lunch counter, but didn't integrate the dollar. And Andrew Young,
- 37:28Speaker 4: my mentor, said, to live in a system of free
- 37:32Speaker 4: enterprise and not to understand the rules of free enterprise
- 37:37Speaker 4: must be the very definition of slavery. And I think
- 37:41Speaker 4: we integrated the lunch counter, but we didn't teach people
- 37:43Speaker 4: how to pay.
- 37:44Speaker 2: The bill or own the building, own the building. And
- 37:46Speaker 2: it's what we don't know that we don't know, but
- 37:49Speaker 2: we think we know. And so I vote. I wrote
- 37:52Speaker 2: the book Financial Literacy Bral, which is the best seller.
- 37:54Speaker 4: I wrote this book Capitalism Bral, which is which is
- 37:57Speaker 4: this is a very disruptive book.
- 37:59Speaker 2: And I I put this out there in people's.
- 38:01Speaker 4: Face bluntly, because we're all living in capitalism.
- 38:05Speaker 2: We just don't understand it.
- 38:07Speaker 4: And people say, I hate rich people in our community,
- 38:11Speaker 4: and I say, no, you don't, you hate rich people
- 38:15Speaker 4: until you become rich. Exactly what you hate is a
- 38:18Speaker 4: game system. What you hate is the system, And no
- 38:21Speaker 4: matter how hard you work, you can't seem to get ahead.
- 38:24Speaker 4: So let's ungame the system. So I wanted to go
- 38:28Speaker 4: back to my childhood, Anthony, when I was in Comson,
- 38:30Speaker 4: and that banker opened my brain to free enterprise and capitalism.
- 38:35Speaker 2: And I said, other bankers like you.
- 38:38Speaker 4: There's millions, he said, And your job to teach, which
- 38:42Speaker 4: are to lend poor people money?
- 38:43Speaker 2: Yes? And all I got to do is prove I
- 38:45Speaker 2: can pay it back. Yes. And what happens if I
- 38:48Speaker 2: don't pay it back? Do I get dead?
- 38:50Speaker 4: Because you know, in our neighborhood you didn't pay it
- 38:53Speaker 4: back the local lender. Yeah, you disappear, Yes, he laughed
- 38:57Speaker 4: and said, why would.
- 38:57Speaker 2: I kill you? Of course not. I give you a
- 38:59Speaker 2: notice that I said, you give me a piece of paper. Oh,
- 39:03Speaker 2: sign me up.
- 39:08Speaker 4: I've been so Operation Hope really is an institutionalization of
- 39:12Speaker 4: the lesson I learned, and what and and really the
- 39:16Speaker 4: four to half billion dollars that we've deployed in capital
- 39:19Speaker 4: for home ownership, for small business ownership, for entrepreneurship, for
- 39:24Speaker 4: consumer credit at prime rates getting credits for us up
- 39:28Speaker 4: debt down, savings up so we can apply for prime credit.
- 39:33Speaker 4: And the bank out of the no business back in
- 39:34Speaker 4: the Yes business.
- 39:36Speaker 2: Even the Delta.
- 39:36Speaker 4: Employees on the plane that we flew in Long last
- 39:40Speaker 4: night on my clients and I coached all Delta employees.
- 39:43Speaker 2: My mission is to finish with Frederick Douglass and.
- 39:49Speaker 4: Doctor King started, but there just did not have an
- 39:53Speaker 4: opportunity to complete a call of the third reconstruction. I
- 39:58Speaker 4: think we're in it right now, and I think that
- 40:01Speaker 4: this conversation is critical, Anthony, because doctor King couldn't have
- 40:06Speaker 4: done this work. I'm not even deserved to be at
- 40:09Speaker 4: the hem of his garments. I'm not putting myself in
- 40:11Speaker 4: that context, but I do know he couldn't have got
- 40:14Speaker 4: what he got done without Sidney Potier, without all the
- 40:21Speaker 4: Muhammad A Lea, Arry Belafonte, the celebrities that they made
- 40:26Speaker 4: that work alluring and interesting and attractive to the masses
- 40:33Speaker 4: and not just the classes.
- 40:35Speaker 2: I need you, I need t I I need Killer Mike, I.
- 40:40Speaker 4: Need two Chains, I need I need all these heroes
- 40:43Speaker 4: and sheros that are that have got this this generation's
- 40:47Speaker 4: attention to make smart sexy again.
- 40:50Speaker 2: We've been making dumb sexy the way too long.
- 40:53Speaker 4: We've dumbed down and celebrated it, and it's time to
- 40:57Speaker 4: make smart sexy. I can't do it, and that's why
- 41:02Speaker 4: I'm doing this, and that's why I'm so inspired by
- 41:05Speaker 4: sharing your story.
- 41:06Speaker 2: I love it. Now.
- 41:06Speaker 3: Now, I know you probably can't get into detail.
- 41:09Speaker 2: About the question I'm about to ask you next because
- 41:11Speaker 2: you mentioned.
- 41:13Speaker 3: By the way, oh I'm interviewing you brother, do this.
- 41:17Speaker 3: But just but you brought about getting your credit up
- 41:20Speaker 3: and your debt down. And I know it's an intricate
- 41:25Speaker 3: thing to do. But what can we tell the people
- 41:27Speaker 3: out there? How can we help them? But where can
- 41:30Speaker 3: we turn this or how can we educate them into
- 41:36Speaker 3: raising their credit scores? Yes, and getting their debt down.
- 41:40Speaker 3: But let's just talk about raising that credit score, because
- 41:42Speaker 3: that's what you know. There's a lot of things on
- 41:44Speaker 3: the in and OEt you know, call experience at eight
- 41:46Speaker 3: o'clock in the morning, you say this, and then by
- 41:48Speaker 3: eight fifteen you'll get thirty points on your credit.
- 41:51Speaker 2: Don't believe that. But what can we what can they do?
- 41:54Speaker 4: And don't educate them and don't pay for credit counseling,
- 41:58Speaker 4: don't pay any of these telling you they're gonna change
- 42:01Speaker 4: your life, and don't pay for some fake profile of
- 42:05Speaker 4: yours that is illegal.
- 42:07Speaker 2: By the way, you're going to jail. So here's the
- 42:10Speaker 2: way to do this. I know, we gotta saw. Here's
- 42:12Speaker 2: a way to do this. You get my book Capitalism
- 42:15Speaker 2: Verrall's here. Get Anthony's book because you want to cook
- 42:18Speaker 2: why you're why? All right?
- 42:23Speaker 4: But but sit in at the kitchen table once a week,
- 42:26Speaker 4: open my good capitals of Overall and read a chapter
- 42:29Speaker 4: one of the powerful chapters Anthony is on seven of
- 42:32Speaker 4: the credit schools.
- 42:33Speaker 2: Okay, so here's what you do. This is this is
- 42:36Speaker 2: making me more sexy. The law states there's three credit bureaus.
- 42:40Speaker 2: If they can't.
- 42:41Speaker 4: Confirm that's something, you don't recognize your credit.
- 42:45Speaker 2: Story is yours. Within thirty days of being notified, they
- 42:48Speaker 2: must remove it.
- 42:51Speaker 4: So my team at Operations Home, which is in forty
- 42:54Speaker 4: three states, which doesn't cost you a dollar, which scholarships
- 42:57Speaker 4: you in, they.
- 42:58Speaker 2: Will coach you.
- 42:58Speaker 4: If we pull your credit score and you don't recognize
- 43:02Speaker 4: what's on there. And there's a good chance if you
- 43:04Speaker 4: haven't pulled your credit scord in a year or two,
- 43:06Speaker 4: there's an error on your credit report. If you say,
- 43:09Speaker 4: what's that, we write a letter to the credit girls
- 43:12Speaker 4: within thirty days. If they cannot confirm that that is yours,
- 43:17Speaker 4: they must remove it by law. When they remove it,
- 43:21Speaker 4: it happens ninety percent of the time you get a
- 43:23Speaker 4: thirty to forty point pop an.
- 43:26Speaker 2: Increase in your credit scord. So if you're at five
- 43:28Speaker 2: point eighty and you pop it thirty points, you're at
- 43:31Speaker 2: what six ten? What happens to your self esteem?
- 43:36Speaker 3: It goes up, You're confidence, you're belief in the system,
- 43:39Speaker 3: and then we just keep working on it and working
- 43:41Speaker 3: on it.
- 43:42Speaker 2: It gets you up to seven.
- 43:43Speaker 4: Hundred, where you're not black or white or brown, or
- 43:47Speaker 4: you're not a gender.
- 43:49Speaker 2: You're green, you're economic green. The computer just says yes
- 43:53Speaker 2: to you above seven hundred. Let me ask you a
- 43:56Speaker 2: final question that we wrap here that no way all
- 43:58Speaker 2: the time. If you had to think that your eighteen
- 44:00Speaker 2: year old self, yes, what advice would you give them?
- 44:04Speaker 4: And what advice could you give this audience and the
- 44:07Speaker 4: one listening about one thing to do or not do
- 44:12Speaker 4: that you wish your eighteen year old self new. That's
- 44:16Speaker 4: what we're talking about right now. Financial literacy.
- 44:19Speaker 2: You know how to manage a.
- 44:20Speaker 3: Check book, you know how to pay, how to buy
- 44:24Speaker 3: something that you're how to invest in something that's going
- 44:27Speaker 3: to grow, and not invest in something that's going to
- 44:31Speaker 3: have a depreciation a depreciating asset. Not go out and
- 44:35Speaker 3: buy the fancy car just because.
- 44:37Speaker 2: I have the money to go do it.
- 44:39Speaker 3: But what can I take this money and invest in
- 44:42Speaker 3: that is going to grow exponentially over time and at
- 44:46Speaker 3: the end of that or during the duration of that,
- 44:49Speaker 3: I can pull that money out and then go buy
- 44:51Speaker 3: whatever it is that I want.
- 44:53Speaker 2: I would have a financial conversation with my younger self.
- 44:56Speaker 3: Because I wasn't taught that from my mother and because.
- 45:00Speaker 2: They weren't taught that, and I didn't want.
- 45:03Speaker 3: To complete or continue that cycle, which I didn't, fortunately
- 45:08Speaker 3: for me. But I would go back and have that
- 45:11Speaker 3: conversation and in depth conversation with my eighteen year old self,
- 45:14Speaker 3: and I believe I would be much further in life financially,
- 45:19Speaker 3: investment wise, wealth wise, and not not that I worry now,
- 45:24Speaker 3: but not having to worry about the future for my children,
- 45:28Speaker 3: my children's children and their children.
- 45:30Speaker 2: Let me tell you something.
- 45:31Speaker 4: I mean a lot of people coachs wearing sunglasses at night.
- 45:38Speaker 4: This dude here is a real deal and you don't
- 45:40Speaker 4: have to worry about anything because you're as smart as
- 45:43Speaker 4: you are funny. And I am honored. Thank you, know you,
- 45:46Speaker 4: and whether you like it or not, you are my
- 45:48Speaker 4: new friend. You're stuck with me.
- 45:50Speaker 2: Oh you stuck with me, brother. So look, I gotta
- 45:52Speaker 2: go sign these books. Capitals of raw. I hear there's
- 45:54Speaker 2: a line can give you. Give some love to Anthony.
- 46:01Speaker 3: Thank you very much, and give us a up for
- 46:03Speaker 3: John Hope right here as well. And I will be
- 46:06Speaker 3: back to have a conversation on health and wellness and diabetes.
- 46:10Speaker 2: And all that stuff, and we'll be signing the book
- 46:11Speaker 2: later on today. Thank you guys for coming out.
