- 0:40SPEAKER_03: Welcome in, everybody, to the Talk and Tech Podcast, Powered by the Nation, part of the Nation Podcast Network.
- 0:45SPEAKER_03: I am your host, Steven Rodriguez, my co-host Tristan McGonagall.
- 0:49SPEAKER_03: Tristan, we haven't recorded a podcast in a month.
- 0:51SPEAKER_03: What's up, man?
- 0:52SPEAKER_02: Dude, a lot has happened.
- 0:53SPEAKER_02: Um, here I am in my brand new podcast studio.
- 0:56SPEAKER_02: I'm coming to you live from the deep in the heart of Texas, Temple, Texas.
- 1:01SPEAKER_02: And I know everything sounds way different, right?
- 1:04SPEAKER_02: Doesn't everything everything's coming through differently, right?
- 1:06SPEAKER_02: With this high-tech thing I've got going on here.
- 1:08SPEAKER_02: What do you think?
- 1:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, totally.
- 1:09SPEAKER_03: I mean, you're using the same microphone, so you know it shouldn't come off differently, but it just has a different feel, different vibe to it.
- 1:16SPEAKER_02: Hashtag vibes, right?
- 1:18SPEAKER_02: That's this what's going on here.
- 1:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:21SPEAKER_03: Always vibes.
- 1:22SPEAKER_02: What about you, sir?
- 1:23SPEAKER_02: I see your tan is already gone from Mexico.
- 1:26SPEAKER_03: Well, that's not true necessarily.
- 1:28SPEAKER_03: If you look at my arm here, it's not too bad.
- 1:30SPEAKER_02: And so the fake, you know what happened to your face?
- 1:32SPEAKER_02: Are you just sticking your arms out the window the whole time?
- 1:35SPEAKER_03: It was yeah, that was it.
- 1:36SPEAKER_03: I I had a face mask on the entire time.
- 1:38SPEAKER_03: I was just covering in like a ski mask on the beach.
- 1:41SPEAKER_03: That's what I was doing.
- 1:42SPEAKER_03: Um, were people calling security?
- 1:45SPEAKER_03: They were.
- 1:45SPEAKER_03: They were wondering why is this person not at this resort wearing a ski mask?
- 1:49SPEAKER_03: This is too sketchy.
- 1:51SPEAKER_02: So you weren't just like sticking your uh hand out the window and going, but senor, Uno, Uno Quino Colada, por favor.
- 1:58SPEAKER_03: I will I will say already the sidebar on the podcast.
- 2:02SPEAKER_03: The worst thing when you go to Mexico for five days is you come back and you just start saying gracias to anybody that is handing you anything, even here in the United States.
- 2:11SPEAKER_03: We went we went and saw our cousins right after that live in Houston, and we went to like this very, very white farmers market to like get lunch with them.
- 2:20SPEAKER_03: And I I said to the very white cashier Gracias.
- 2:25SPEAKER_03: Well he was like, What?
- 2:29SPEAKER_02: Well, you see, that's not really an issue if you're doing that in Texas in Louisiana.
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: Like, obviously, that's gonna be a problem.
- 2:35SPEAKER_03: Like, yeah, well, uh no, we were in Houston.
- 2:38SPEAKER_03: We were in Houston, it was just the the place we were at was very much not a place for gracias.
- 2:45SPEAKER_02: You can't say you can't just throw in a gracias.
- 2:47SPEAKER_03: No, yeah, I mean, I guess you can.
- 2:49SPEAKER_03: He wasn't the America I want to live in.
- 2:51SPEAKER_03: He wasn't like super weirded out, but it was like, why did you just say why didn't you just say thank you?
- 2:55SPEAKER_02: Did you just say it's it's cool?
- 2:57SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm my last name's Rodriguez.
- 3:00SPEAKER_02: It's cool, it's cool.
- 3:01SPEAKER_02: I'm Mexican, I swear.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: Believe me.
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: Look at me.
- 3:07SPEAKER_02: That didn't help, sir.
- 3:08SPEAKER_03: No, okay.
- 3:09SPEAKER_03: So if you y'all can't see this because we don't publish uh the video feed of this podcast, but uh Tristan is drinking straight from the wine bottle today.
- 3:17SPEAKER_03: Um, he made his own wine spritzer in the bottle.
- 3:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we're working with some pinot griege.
- 3:24SPEAKER_02: Uh it was some uh 1887, the the the H E B Topo Chico with lime.
- 3:31SPEAKER_02: So there's a lot going on here, man.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: I'm a chemist.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: If you guys nice, uh some of somewhat of a chemist myself.
- 3:38SPEAKER_03: Well, I'm proud of you uh for enjoying a drink on this Sunday.
- 3:41SPEAKER_03: Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there.
- 3:44SPEAKER_03: Um, thank you for raising um these two idiots that are on this podcast.
- 3:53SPEAKER_02: Shout out to our moms, and uh obviously the listeners, thank you to uh your mothers as well, because you know, uh I guess they where you where are you going with this?
- 4:02SPEAKER_02: You know, like I guess if you're listening to this, um I don't know if your brains are all there.
- 4:08SPEAKER_02: Your mother, your mother did something like it's on your mom's fault, but it's not it's happy Mother's Day to them.
- 4:13SPEAKER_03: Yes, yes.
- 4:14SPEAKER_03: Okay, moving on.
- 4:16SPEAKER_03: Texas Tech.
- 4:16SPEAKER_03: We have a Texas Tech podcast.
- 4:18SPEAKER_03: Um shall we start with basketball?
- 4:21SPEAKER_02: Yes, Coach Grant McCasslin.
- 4:23SPEAKER_02: The shooty hoops.
- 4:24SPEAKER_03: Shooty hoops.
- 4:25SPEAKER_03: Uh Coach Grant McCastlin doesn't talk much on social media, and that has riled up a certain few a certain portion of this fan base, I should say, on the Twitter sphere.
- 4:37SPEAKER_03: Um your thoughts on Coach Mac, his communication style, how he goes about it.
- 4:45SPEAKER_03: What do you think?
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: This isn't really a shift from the guy before.
- 4:49SPEAKER_02: Were we not already used to this radio silence on Twitter?
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: That's true.
- 4:53SPEAKER_02: That's true.
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: This isn't new.
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: I get like Grant is a younger dude, but uh I it's not like this is an app this is like a foreign territory that we're in with the uh with the coaches, but um, you know, uh I was just it's just kind of the modern era we live in.
- 5:07SPEAKER_02: I think maybe it's because Joe, it's the Joey Maguire effect more than anything, that like we just have a guy that's super into using Twitter like a tool and just really using it to unite the fan base.
- 5:17SPEAKER_02: And now that we have a guy who's even younger than him and is you know not even really using the internet at all, I think it's just catching some people off guard.
- 5:26SPEAKER_02: So I I I think it's I think it's uh just kind of riling people up there.
- 5:30SPEAKER_02: But uh, what do you think?
- 5:32SPEAKER_03: Uh people like to be in the know, uh, especially our fan base.
- 5:36SPEAKER_03: They really like to be in the know, especially now that it's transfer portal season, we don't really have a complete roster yet.
- 5:43SPEAKER_03: So people just want to know, and it's frustrating for those fans that aren't getting really anything from and and it's less about Coach McCaslin actually using social media because I think what you said, Mark Adams tweeted every two weeks, retweet if you're with us, and that was that was not him.
- 6:01SPEAKER_03: That was that was not him either.
- 6:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Mark Adams did not run his Twitter account, yeah.
- 6:04SPEAKER_03: Like that didn't happen.
- 6:06SPEAKER_03: But no, I think it's more about the the secrecy inside the program that our fan base doesn't, or I won't say our fan base, I'll say a portion of the Texas Tech fan base doesn't like.
- 6:19SPEAKER_03: I don't agree with those people, but I will say not having any leaks, not having anything come out, not having the you know, certain reporters constantly on Texas Tech guys, because I think Coach McCaslin and his staff that he has right now doesn't want stuff to get out very easily, and I think that's fine.
- 6:42SPEAKER_03: That's a fine way to go about it because you can use social media really well.
- 6:45SPEAKER_03: It can also hurt you if you have constant um rumors spilling out of who you're going after, um, who this player might might be interested in coming to Texas Tech.
- 6:55SPEAKER_03: Then more schools see that on Twitter and they want to go and try to poach those certain players.
- 7:00SPEAKER_03: So um I think that's the ultimate frustration.
- 7:04SPEAKER_03: I don't think we should be mad at all with his use of social media.
- 7:08SPEAKER_03: I think that's just who he is as a guy.
- 7:10SPEAKER_03: He doesn't need to change his ways.
- 7:11SPEAKER_03: Um, he's won everywhere he's been.
- 7:14SPEAKER_03: We need to trust that he's gonna do the same thing here.
- 7:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, I was gonna ask if you think this is maybe a uh like a a uh a new to the job thing, or like maybe you know he's just so focused on you know making sure everything's kind of kept within house because right now it's kind of a uh a mysterious situation, the sense of like who's gonna be on the staff and who's gonna be on the team.
- 7:37SPEAKER_02: Um, it's just like you know, uh a regime shift maybe calls for more focus and less communication, and then if uh to put it kind of bluntly there, but when we start looking through his Twitter, I'm on a Twitter Twitter feed right now.
- 7:49SPEAKER_02: The dude doesn't tweet, no, uh and the only thing he does is he hits the retweet button.
- 7:54SPEAKER_02: And uh, because I it took me two finger scrolls to get to 2021, and that was two years ago now.
- 8:02SPEAKER_02: So it's this guy does not use Twitter.
- 8:04SPEAKER_02: So if fans are gonna be frustrated with that, then get get buckle in for a really long time of no tweeting because it's just not gonna happen.
- 8:13SPEAKER_03: Do you know who else doesn't tweet?
- 8:15SPEAKER_03: Tim Tadlock.
- 8:16SPEAKER_03: It's true.
- 8:17SPEAKER_02: That's true, and that guy's mad decent at his job.
- 8:20SPEAKER_03: All he does is tweet, put him on the board, hashtag rec'em.
- 8:23SPEAKER_03: And we all we we get fired up about that, and we do, we do, and just like I do get fired up now every time I see a grand mcasson tweet.
- 8:30SPEAKER_03: I think he's gone crazy.
- 8:31SPEAKER_03: He's done like three retweets in the past like week, and it's been nuts.
- 8:34SPEAKER_03: Oh, slow down, Greg.
- 8:35SPEAKER_03: I know crazy time.
- 8:36SPEAKER_03: He put a Mother's Day message out there today on Twitter.
- 8:39SPEAKER_03: He's been going outrageous.
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: So no, I'm not frustrated with his social media use.
- 8:45SPEAKER_03: I like that he is secretive, I like that he keeps uh everything in-house because um we've seen national reporters not care for Texas Tech too much um in the past, and so I'm fine.
- 8:58SPEAKER_03: I'm fine with everything.
- 9:00SPEAKER_02: Whatever, whatever I see uh us kind of clash with other fan bases, I see other fan bases kind of take a dig at us saying we're a perpetually online fan base.
- 9:08SPEAKER_02: Do you think there's any truth to that?
- 9:10SPEAKER_03: Yes, yes, we're insane, we're an insane Twitter fan base.
- 9:15SPEAKER_03: Like our our fans, for better or for worse, are always present, always talking, and always there.
- 9:24SPEAKER_03: They are which is it's it's a good it's how you look at it.
- 9:27SPEAKER_03: It's a good thing, especially when we're winning.
- 9:29SPEAKER_03: It's a really good thing because it's a lot of positivity, it's a lot of people coming together, it's a lot of awesome, you know, feedback.
- 9:35SPEAKER_03: When we're losing, it's a little worse to look at.
- 9:38SPEAKER_03: It's sometimes you just need to hop off Twitter when Texas Tech is losing because our fan base tends to overreact about a lot of things.
- 9:45SPEAKER_03: But again, I don't want to tell people how to be a fan or not.
- 9:49SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm choosing to be a fan the way I want to be a fan.
- 9:53SPEAKER_02: Look, I mean, I I love Twitter and I'm on it way too much as well.
- 9:57SPEAKER_02: Um, and it gives us a lot of beautiful moments.
- 10:00SPEAKER_02: I mean, without Twitter, we wouldn't have Coach Beams eating worms, so it's it giveth and taketh at the same time, you know.
- 10:07SPEAKER_03: Rip beans, man.
- 10:09SPEAKER_03: That sucks.
- 10:09SPEAKER_03: That was for Fardaws.
- 10:10SPEAKER_03: That I know, you know, it was an all-time moment.
- 10:13SPEAKER_03: We're always gonna remember it for our guy Beans, but um, no, that looking back at it, very much not worth not not worth the worm, not worth the worm's life looking back, you know.
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, homie gave it all for Fardawz.
- 10:28SPEAKER_02: And yeah, and maybe gets it.
- 10:29SPEAKER_03: Fardaws did not he did not reciprocate.
- 10:32SPEAKER_02: He didn't reciprocate much of anything while he's at Texas Tech, if we're gonna be completely honest.
- 10:37SPEAKER_03: For real.
- 10:37SPEAKER_02: Speaking was a little unpleasant the entire team.
- 10:41SPEAKER_03: Speaking of Fardaws, let's talk about the roster as of right now.
- 10:46SPEAKER_03: Uh, because we did pick up some players, we also lost some players.
- 10:49SPEAKER_03: We haven't really talked about it much because we haven't recorded a podcast in a month.
- 10:53SPEAKER_03: Um, Kevin O'Banner lost to eligibility, he is going to pursue a professional career.
- 10:59SPEAKER_03: Good luck to KO, all-time red writer.
- 11:02SPEAKER_03: Um, Fardos, gone, transferred to Cal, which it seems like that's a hot spot for a lot of guys this year, is transferring over to Cal.
- 11:12SPEAKER_03: Um Fardos, I'm not I'm I'm not sad about in the slightest.
- 11:17SPEAKER_03: Like, I just think um there were things that were out of his control, out of out of tech's control last year that didn't work out.
- 11:25SPEAKER_03: Um, the team was a mess.
- 11:27SPEAKER_03: I think we all know that in a lot of different ways.
- 11:30SPEAKER_03: Um and from you know what who we've talked to, what we've heard, Faros didn't help that, you know what I'm saying?
- 11:38SPEAKER_03: He's he was one of the senior most guys on the team.
- 11:40SPEAKER_03: He obviously broke his foot, so he was out for a lot of the year.
- 11:43SPEAKER_03: That affects everything, but the locker room was not good, and he was a senior, he was a leader in that locker room, and uh, you know, I think that's telling.
- 11:51SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 11:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, it's it's it's strange to see um the the this weird Cal pipeline being created here.
- 11:58SPEAKER_02: What's that about?
- 11:59SPEAKER_02: This do you know anything about that?
- 12:01SPEAKER_02: Like what's what's what's the connection?
- 12:03SPEAKER_03: I do know that um Cal recently hired Mark Madsen, who was the coach at Utah Valley with Fardos.
- 12:11SPEAKER_03: Um he he recently took the Cal job this offseason, and Mark Madsen hired an assistant that has been on Texas Tech's roster or Texas Tech's staff for I think the last couple of years.
- 12:24SPEAKER_03: I think his name is Matt.
- 12:25SPEAKER_03: Uh he's got a weird last name.
- 12:27SPEAKER_03: It's like starts with an S.
- 12:28SPEAKER_03: It's like sure, sure something.
- 12:30SPEAKER_03: Um, but apparently he was like a big part of recruiting some of these guys, and he's been a big uh a big asset for Texas Tech.
- 12:38SPEAKER_03: And so this was a good hire, and I think that's why we're seeing this pipeline, not only with Fardos, but with Jalen Tyson as well.
- 12:45SPEAKER_02: Man, I I don't think we've recorded a podcast since the whole Jalen Tyson thing went down, and I think that one's probably the biggest surprise for Texas Tech fans, I mean, including us.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: That was just a really weird spiral.
- 13:00SPEAKER_02: Uh it kind of and it's getting kind of frustrating to see these guys' tweets hashtag Red Raider for Life only to uh transfer about two weeks later.
- 13:12SPEAKER_02: What is what what is going on?
- 13:14SPEAKER_02: Like, I I what went down with Jalen Tyson?
- 13:17SPEAKER_02: Like, it really seemed like he was gonna team up with Grant and kind of just laid his foundation for the future that was to come.
- 13:23SPEAKER_02: What the hell happened?
- 13:24SPEAKER_03: Can we get rid of RRFL?
- 13:27SPEAKER_03: Can we just get rid of it?
- 13:28SPEAKER_03: I'm fine with getting it fair.
- 13:30SPEAKER_03: I'm fine if we just get rid of it.
- 13:32SPEAKER_03: Like, I'm fine with it.
- 13:34SPEAKER_03: First off, first off, that hashtag kind of started from the Dallas Mavericks with their MFFL, Mavs fan for life.
- 13:41SPEAKER_03: That's their whole thing.
- 13:42SPEAKER_03: I'm not a big fan of the of the Dallas Mavericks.
- 13:44SPEAKER_03: Sorry to all the Dallas listeners, but um, no, the Red Raider for Life is abused far too often.
- 13:50SPEAKER_03: Um, it doesn't apply to a lot of the people that tweet it about themselves.
- 13:54SPEAKER_03: Uh, people should never tweet it about themselves unless they have graduated from the university, spent their time.
- 14:01SPEAKER_03: There's only a specific amount of people that can actually or should be called Red Raiders for Life.
- 14:07SPEAKER_03: And it's abused.
- 14:08SPEAKER_03: And it was abused by Jalen Tyson, it was abused by Kevin McCullough, it was abused by a lot of guys.
- 14:13SPEAKER_03: So um, I'm fine if we just get rid of it and never tweet about it.
- 14:17SPEAKER_02: Well, how about we just make it a senior thing?
- 14:20SPEAKER_02: You know, like walking out the door on graduation.
- 14:23SPEAKER_02: Make let's I'm cool with it happening then.
- 14:26SPEAKER_02: But it's it's such a great idea because anytime a guy tweets it, you get really happy about it.
- 14:30SPEAKER_02: You're like, oh, let's go, he's locked in, he's ready to go.
- 14:32SPEAKER_02: But it's really kind of being associated directly with, oh, I guess he's gonna be leaving in a couple days.
- 14:37SPEAKER_02: Like that's really what it seems like it's turning into.
- 14:41SPEAKER_02: Especially Jalen.
- 14:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we've had it from Kyler from Kyler Edwards, Kevin McCullough, Jalen Tyson.
- 14:48SPEAKER_03: Now it's just uh it's not a good hashtag to see a player when he tweets that because and it's just the state of college basketball.
- 14:54SPEAKER_03: Like you know, things change so dramatically and so quickly because all these guys have so many different um people telling them what they should do, and all sorts of people in their corners, not just the coaching staff, but with people on their personal side, if they have an agent, if they have their family who wants them to, you know, go one way or another.
- 15:13SPEAKER_03: So you just can't trust it when a guy's you can get hyped about it, you can say awesome, this rules.
- 15:18SPEAKER_03: Jalen Tyson tweeted RRFL, but um ultimately it doesn't really matter.
- 15:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, absolutely so.
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: What do you what do you what do you think happened?
- 15:28SPEAKER_03: Um, I don't think he fit the culture with what Coach Mack wants to build here, and I think that's fine.
- 15:35SPEAKER_03: Um Jalen Tyson is a very talented player.
- 15:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I hate losing talented players, but on the other hand, if he's going to be uh detriment to the locker room or to what he's trying to build on next year's team, then I'm fine with getting rid of it.
- 15:52SPEAKER_03: There's been very talented players that don't fit the culture well, and that ultimately affects your team's performance.
- 15:58SPEAKER_03: And I think this is one of those situations that um I I and I don't know anything, I I don't have like any insight or information or anything on uh how their meetings went, but from what has been put out there, Jalen Tyson and Coach Mac met and had a few discussions, and ultimately they decided to part ways.
- 16:18SPEAKER_03: And I think it was a very mutual decision.
- 16:20SPEAKER_03: Um, so that's why it doesn't bother me.
- 16:23SPEAKER_03: It did bother me initially because it was kind of out of the blue, and you're like, oh man, this guy was all in on Texas Tech, and now all of a sudden he's not.
- 16:31SPEAKER_03: Is this coach the right guy?
- 16:32SPEAKER_03: Like, no, I think it things happen sometimes, and these guys didn't really mesh the way that they wanted to, and so they went their separate ways, and I think it's gonna be fine for both parties.
- 16:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I have no issue with uh a coach coming in and not bending to any of what the players uh want him to be.
- 16:50SPEAKER_02: You know, that's not his job.
- 16:52SPEAKER_02: His job isn't to be what the players want him to be, his job is to is there to build a culture and win games.
- 16:57SPEAKER_02: So um I'm I'm totally I totally get that.
- 17:00SPEAKER_02: It just kind of makes you wonder what is so different about this locker room.
- 17:03SPEAKER_02: And I don't mean that in a negative way either.
- 17:05SPEAKER_02: It's just I'm just it's just genuine curiosity as to what what what kind of shift could happen to where you don't you you you you seemingly can't buy in, but a lot of other guys in the locker room can.
- 17:15SPEAKER_02: So it's just it's just kind of like that's just a human question at the end of the day.
- 17:20SPEAKER_02: But I I'm just interested.
- 17:21SPEAKER_02: I would just like to know why.
- 17:22SPEAKER_02: No, not not for any negative reason, just plain old curiosity.
- 17:25SPEAKER_02: I would like to see the difference between a uh a McCasslin um uh practice and a and an Adams practice, you know what I mean?
- 17:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I've been thinking about this a lot um over the last couple weeks, and I think clearly the Sweet 16 team was an outlier in Adams' first year.
- 17:42SPEAKER_03: I think he had a very old team and a very mature team that was willing to be coached hard by Coach Adams.
- 17:49SPEAKER_03: And I also think Adams dramatically changed from year one to year two.
- 17:54SPEAKER_03: Um, clearly, you had guys that were in this program for three, four years that left after the first year of Adams, Kevin McCullough, Terrence Shannon, those type of guys um that normally you would have stay if the culture was solid.
- 18:09SPEAKER_03: Um, so you know, the more I think about this and the more stuff that comes out, it it Adams just didn't have a good culture.
- 18:16SPEAKER_03: And those guys that were on the team last year were not a fit.
- 18:21SPEAKER_03: Um, I think two sides can be true here.
- 18:24SPEAKER_03: I don't think Adams did a good job, and I also don't think some of those guys on last year's roster were gonna lead to winning basketball.
- 18:31SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm not saying Jalen's that guy, but I am saying that I I it doesn't seem like Coach Mack was very sad to lose Jalen Tyson.
- 18:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so yeah, as for right now, I'm going to trust Coach Mack um because he's here at Texas Tech.
- 18:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I uh you see a lot of nervousness come from the fan base.
- 18:51SPEAKER_02: And you know, he had that long Twitter thread that uh uh about yeah from Don that was discussing his his silence on social media, which is kind of where we began this discussion.
- 19:01SPEAKER_02: Um, you see a lot of nervousness from the fans, and they're really thinking that, like, you know, since players are transferring out, that this guy can't retain talent, this guy can't hold on to players.
- 19:10SPEAKER_02: Is was he the right hire?
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: Um, but you I think you and I have the same uh doctrine on hiring a coach, is you cannot let the players decide who's hired, and you cannot let the players just decide who stays, kind of thing.
- 19:24SPEAKER_02: So um, I'm fully on board with Grant doing, you know, take going scorched earth and just making the McCastlin program, not how do I continue the Adams or Beard program?
- 19:35SPEAKER_02: Like it's a the reset is needed, and I think I think that's just what we're witnessing.
- 19:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, that's a that's a great way to put it.
- 19:41SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, the ultimately these players are here for four years, five years at the most.
- 19:47SPEAKER_03: And even with basketball these days, it seems like a one-year contract that these guys are going off of with how the transfer portal is run.
- 19:54SPEAKER_03: So you can't base it off players.
- 19:56SPEAKER_03: Um, and I I'm gonna yeah, I like the I like the culture that he's building, but um, let's keep moving on to guys that that are not gonna be in the red and black next year.
- 20:05SPEAKER_03: Elijah Fisher, I think we all kind of this is what was gonna happen.
- 20:10SPEAKER_03: Um, we thought I I mean there are rumors from day one that he got uh, or at least when the season started and he wasn't playing much that he was gonna transfer out pretty quickly.
- 20:20SPEAKER_03: Um, I thought it was an interesting tweet that uh Pop Isaacs tweeted the other day, and and this is a guy who does not tweet very often, um, but he randomly came out and kind of said, Hey, now that I've been in college basketball for a year, guys that reclassify from high school and miss out on a year of high school to jump to college basketball real quick, it's a bad decision in pretty much every way.
- 20:42SPEAKER_03: Uh and and pop tweeted that kind of really out of the blue randomly.
- 20:46SPEAKER_03: And this was the exact situation that Elijah Fisher did.
- 20:50SPEAKER_03: He um reclassified, he was originally going to be a 2024 guy, reclassified to 2023, and you know, kind of had the season that he did.
- 20:58SPEAKER_03: But I think there's a lot of truth to what Pop was saying.
- 21:01SPEAKER_03: It's um it's a really tough league, the Big 12, to be competitive.
- 21:07SPEAKER_03: And freshmen do not contribute right away for the majority.
- 21:12SPEAKER_03: I I mean, there's obviously those ultra-talented ones that are always going to contribute no matter what, because they're just great basketball players.
- 21:19SPEAKER_03: But this is a very veteran league.
- 21:21SPEAKER_03: This is uh with a lot of coaches that tend to, you know, play their older guys, and um, it's just really tough for freshmen to do that, especially when you're technically still a high school.
- 21:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, I I don't want to like try to act like I have any sort of real world experience when it comes to any of this, but uh, I am an assistant coach, and what you do realize, even at the high school level, is obviously the older kids are going to be better players than the younger kids, just from flat out experience.
- 21:49SPEAKER_02: And obviously, in high school, there's that true physical difference between them that you see.
- 21:54SPEAKER_02: But the maturity difference is the number one thing that separates a senior from a friend.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Whenever you're looking at uh, I'm sure it's the same in college, but if you're looking at um coachability, because the older guys can take it, the older guys will listen to you, the older guys will take the punishment, while the younger guys, it's an attack, you know, it's an offense, it's it's uh, you know, it's it's the the coach doesn't know anything.
- 22:17SPEAKER_02: I'm really good, um, and I'm ready to play right now, sort of thing, while the older guys understand the process better.
- 22:22SPEAKER_02: So I think I think you I think what but that's another instance that Pop's kind of leaning into is like you don't have that maturity, uh, you don't have you're not able to incubate that mature mindset that you need.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: Whenever you're a young kid going into uh any sort of any any higher level of sports, like you have to have the mentality that it's it's not gonna be about you immediately, and you're gonna have to have some time to develop, you know, and and that you you see you see, I'm just saying, like you can see it from uh all sorts of ages, and I I can't imagine it being much different in college with that sense as well.
- 22:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and if you are a player that is considering reclassifying to a to like an earlier year, you are a highly touted player, a very talented player that has a lot of, like I mentioned earlier, a lot of different people in your corner telling you a bunch of things to hype you up and say, Hey, you should be getting more playing time.
- 23:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I don't care if you're 17 or 18 years old, you are this level of player, and you've been getting that probably your whole life.
- 23:23SPEAKER_03: So um, you know, it there's uh that's a more complicated conversation, but ultimately I think Elijah Fisher probably had a really poor experience at Texas Tech, yeah.
- 23:34SPEAKER_03: Uh, partially due to the coaching staff, partially due to just him not getting exactly what he wanted.
- 23:41SPEAKER_03: Um, and so he's moving on to DePaul, and I think that's fine for all parties.
- 23:45SPEAKER_03: Uh, I you know, I I I wish him best.
- 23:47SPEAKER_03: I don't I don't really think he's uh he's a bad kid or anything or anything like that.
- 23:51SPEAKER_03: I uh I think he's actually a really talented player that could be a an awesome, awesome athlete one day.
- 23:57SPEAKER_02: No, absolutely.
- 23:58SPEAKER_02: It wasn't there a bit of a controversy with him going on a podcast or uh yeah, he went on a podcast and basically like all that our fan base takes away is the negative stuff, I think sometimes.
- 24:09SPEAKER_03: And so I I think it got out of that podcast that um he mentioned the food in Lovick wasn't very good and that it's either steak or salmon that you eat there, which is just false.
- 24:19SPEAKER_02: Uh I mean what two stellar options as well, though.
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: Honestly, that is known as amazing food anywhere.
- 24:26SPEAKER_02: So yeah, right.
- 24:27SPEAKER_03: He's he's like, he's like, Yeah, I was either eating steak or salmon every day.
- 24:31SPEAKER_03: Oh no, oh no, right?
- 24:33SPEAKER_03: Disgusting.
- 24:35SPEAKER_03: No, there's so much good food, but I can see where he's coming from.
- 24:39SPEAKER_03: He came from Toronto, he came from a different place with a bunch of a different culture and a different food, a metropolitan area, uh, where you have a lot of choices.
- 24:47SPEAKER_03: And Lubbock, Texas is different from Toronto, Canada.
- 24:51SPEAKER_03: So um, yeah, I can see some of these guys that make it to Texas Tech not really understanding the vibe and accepting the vibe.
- 24:58SPEAKER_03: There's also people, and there's also players that come in and adjust and really love the culture and the people and the and the place and everything about Lubbock.
- 25:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the list is endless with those guys, way more so than than guys like Elasticsearch.
- 25:10SPEAKER_02: That wasn't even that much of a dig, whatever.
- 25:11SPEAKER_02: And it wasn't when you expect a Canadian to come down and eat Mexican food and stuff.
- 25:16SPEAKER_02: Get real.
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: Come on.
- 25:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so it is what it is.
- 25:19SPEAKER_03: Uh you know, he's going to DePaul, he's gonna be up in Chicago, so uh hopefully you get it a couple different food options up there, my guy.
- 25:28SPEAKER_03: Try the try the deep dish.
- 25:30SPEAKER_03: I think it's pretty good.
- 25:31SPEAKER_02: You can't take another dinner of steak at salmon.
- 25:36SPEAKER_03: No, but I I don't think that's the spam.
- 25:39SPEAKER_05: I think it's the spam.
- 25:43SPEAKER_03: No, I don't think I don't think he's a bad kid.
- 25:45SPEAKER_03: I I wish him best.
- 25:46SPEAKER_03: Um, Davion Harmon is moving on to professional route.
- 25:50SPEAKER_03: Um I don't I don't really see him being an NBA player, just being straight up.
- 25:55SPEAKER_03: Um I think he's a talented.
- 25:58SPEAKER_03: No, he he could have come back for another year if he wanted to.
- 26:01SPEAKER_03: Um, but he's been in college basketball a long time.
- 26:04SPEAKER_03: Everything that happened last year, I can understand him not wanting to transfer and find a new home.
- 26:09SPEAKER_03: And I actually do think he likes he loves Texas Tech.
- 26:13SPEAKER_03: He seems like he he went on uh the seeing Scarlet podcast, which by the way is a is a really good podcast um out there, though um they do a really good job over there, but he's he's an emotional player, and I think just an emotional human being.
- 26:30SPEAKER_03: And so the highs are really high and the lows are really low.
- 26:34SPEAKER_03: And I I think he had a lot of lows last year, and that was ultimately out of his control.
- 26:39SPEAKER_03: He always competed, he always played hard.
- 26:41SPEAKER_03: I'll always respect him for doing that.
- 26:43SPEAKER_03: Um, but I think this was his best route.
- 26:46SPEAKER_03: Go play overseas, go make some money, go have a career for yourself.
- 26:50SPEAKER_03: Um, so I I don't think he he did all that he needed to do in college.
- 26:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's a good point, man.
- 26:56SPEAKER_02: And at some point, don't you think he has to think he's getting a little old for this at the same time, right?
- 27:00SPEAKER_02: You know, it's time, maybe it's time to move on with my life.
- 27:02SPEAKER_02: And you gotta respect that more than just trying to stick around at the same time, you know.
- 27:06SPEAKER_02: Might as well start, you know, go and make a career out of what you love while you can, because you're running out of time to do that.
- 27:12SPEAKER_02: And I respect the crap out of it, man.
- 27:14SPEAKER_02: I I much prefer that than him trying to transfer maybe in you know, at worse in inner conference as well.
- 27:19SPEAKER_02: So, no, I I I respect the crap out of it, man.
- 27:21SPEAKER_02: Go, go, go, go be great, go make some money.
- 27:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I also don't think he would have had the role he had this year on next year's Texas Tech team because I think he he might have stayed.
- 27:30SPEAKER_03: If he stayed in college basketball, Texas Tech, I think would have been an option for him.
- 27:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, um, but I just don't think he was gonna have the role that he had last year.
- 27:38SPEAKER_03: So um wish him the best.
- 27:40SPEAKER_03: KJ Allen is moving on to Portland State, which is exactly where he needs to be.
- 27:46SPEAKER_03: Um this is not a dig at him.
- 27:49SPEAKER_03: I I some guys just aren't meant to are they're not meant for Big 12 ball.
- 27:56SPEAKER_03: It's not I that's not a bad thing.
- 27:59SPEAKER_03: Um, I I just think after watching him for two years, there's a there's a small portion of the fan base that thinks he didn't really get a shot, which I guess is a little fair, but um I I just don't think his talent and his skill set was very compatible for Big 12 ball.
- 28:16SPEAKER_03: And I think he's moving down a level, and uh he's gonna be great over there.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: I mean that's fair.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: You're still playing D1 ball, and I I just I don't think he was going to make that jump that we all kind of thought we bought him for.
- 28:28SPEAKER_02: You know, I think I think he was recruited on potential more than anything.
- 28:32SPEAKER_02: You know, he showed some athletic potential, uh, but it just never really came to pass.
- 28:36SPEAKER_02: You know, if if it was there, we we would have saw him more.
- 28:39SPEAKER_02: Um, so you know, I think this is the right decision as well.
- 28:42SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's you're still like I said, you know, you're still out there playing D1 ball, hopefully having school paid for.
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: Um, so you know, might as well, you know, make the most out of that.
- 28:49SPEAKER_02: That's the whole point.
- 28:50SPEAKER_02: So good for him.
- 28:51SPEAKER_03: He's also at a really tough spot because he's one of those tweeners where he's between the the positions.
- 28:56SPEAKER_03: He's really he should be a big man, but he's only six foot five.
- 29:00SPEAKER_03: And that's really difficult to succeed when you are doing that.
- 29:04SPEAKER_03: I mean, even guys that are six, seven, six, eight would have an easier time, but he's just smaller and he's not uh, you know, he's he's wide, he's big, he's strong, and everything like that.
- 29:13SPEAKER_03: But to compete with guys that are constantly seven, eight inches taller than you is just it's difficult.
- 29:19SPEAKER_03: So um, yeah, and his skill set never really transferred over to be a wing.
- 29:23SPEAKER_03: I think they tried to do that a little bit last year and it just didn't happen.
- 29:26SPEAKER_03: So um wish him the best.
- 29:28SPEAKER_03: West Coast, he's a West Coast guy, he's going back to the West Coast.
- 29:31SPEAKER_03: Good for him.
- 29:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, heading back home.
- 29:33SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 29:33SPEAKER_03: Uh, last one, Daniel Bacho moving on.
- 29:37SPEAKER_03: This was a surprise, big surprise for me.
- 29:40SPEAKER_03: Um, that he went, and it's more about the destination than that he transferred.
- 29:45SPEAKER_03: He went to Louisiana Tech.
- 29:47SPEAKER_03: Um, Coach Talvin Hester, who was there in Adams' first year, is now the head coach over there.
- 29:52SPEAKER_03: Obviously, they had that connection, and that probably led to him going over there.
- 29:56SPEAKER_03: I thought he was gonna get some D1.
- 29:59SPEAKER_03: I thought he was gonna get D1 offers uh out of the transfer portal.
- 30:03SPEAKER_03: And he, well, this is D one, but yeah, our six offers, I should say.
- 30:08SPEAKER_03: Um, because the talents there, in my opinion, for him.
- 30:11SPEAKER_03: It there's just a lot of things about Bach, man.
- 30:14SPEAKER_03: What were your thoughts about Bachcho?
- 30:15SPEAKER_02: I know you you had a lot of lot a lot to say about Mr.
- 30:18SPEAKER_02: Bacho towards the end of uh his tenure here at Texas Tech.
- 30:22SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, I'm not surprised that the Frenchman is rolling on.
- 30:26SPEAKER_02: I mean, wasn't there talk of him potentially leaving uh this pass off season and the one before that?
- 30:31SPEAKER_02: It's always kind of felt like he's maybe kind of one foot out the door, one foot in.
- 30:35SPEAKER_02: Um, but dude, it's uh I mean my heart isn't burning too much, other than just him kind of being a fun player to have around, you know.
- 30:43SPEAKER_02: But I mean, I think it's kind of cool that he's gonna go see ego go play with a former Texas Tech guy.
- 30:48SPEAKER_02: Um, and if you know, yes, he is kind of staying taking a step down in competition, but maybe this is a chance for him to excel and shine amongst a lesser competition, you know, in a way.
- 30:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Daniel Bacho is an extremely talented basketball player.
- 31:02SPEAKER_03: Uh insane athleticism for a guy his size.
- 31:07SPEAKER_03: But when you can't stay on the floor consistently because you're constantly injured, then it's not it doesn't matter how talented you are.
- 31:16SPEAKER_03: Um and he plays with a recklessness that is ultimately gonna affect his longevity playing basketball.
- 31:25SPEAKER_03: Um, he doesn't watch his landing, he doesn't um monitor how high he is in the air.
- 31:33SPEAKER_03: Um and that there's a reason he's always hurt because he doesn't take care of himself on the court.
- 31:42SPEAKER_03: I'm not saying he doesn't take care of himself outside and working out, stretching, doing all that stuff.
- 31:46SPEAKER_03: But um, dude, you're seven feet tall and you're jumping way high in the air and you're not even focusing on landing a lot of the time.
- 31:53SPEAKER_03: Uh big men have long careers when they start focusing on that stuff.
- 31:57SPEAKER_03: And if he can get a grasp on that, I think he can have a really long career and play professionally.
- 32:03SPEAKER_03: But um if you're missing two-thirds of the season or even one third of the season all the time, um, there's uh that kind of says everything you need to know, you know.
- 32:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, I absolutely it's that's just kind of one of those uh intangible stats on a player is durability, right?
- 32:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and especially whenever you have a guy his size or that role is just tougher to fit uh to fill.
- 32:29SPEAKER_02: So whenever he's constantly out, you're you have a big problem on your hands.
- 32:32SPEAKER_02: So um that's that's absolutely a good point, man.
- 32:35SPEAKER_02: I didn't even think about it that way.
- 32:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I think he's gonna be fine.
- 32:38SPEAKER_03: I just I just really want him as a player because I think he can be really, really good and play professionally to be more mindful of his landing and just not going all out all the time, trying to block the shot at its peak instead of trying, you know, there's there's stuff that big guys do that kind of bother me a little bit, and uh bocho really got to me last year.
- 33:00SPEAKER_03: So um, you know, wish wish the best to a lot of these guys um in their new tenure.
- 33:06SPEAKER_03: Let's talk about some guys that are gonna be on Texas Tech Team next year.
- 33:10SPEAKER_03: Yes, um, so returners.
- 33:13SPEAKER_03: We got pop coming back, we got Lamar coming back, uh, we got big Bob Jennings coming back, uh, which I'm gonna call in Bob Jennings.
- 33:24SPEAKER_03: We gotta get Bob on the podcast.
- 33:26SPEAKER_03: Bob needs to come on the podcast.
- 33:27SPEAKER_03: I love Red Bull.
- 33:28SPEAKER_03: How do you feel about that, Bob?
- 33:29SPEAKER_02: What do you what do you what do you what do you think about the season, Bob?
- 33:32SPEAKER_02: It's Robert.
- 33:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's just call me Robert.
- 33:35SPEAKER_03: Just call me Robert or RJ.
- 33:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, whatever you say, Bob.
- 33:37SPEAKER_03: Whatever you say.
- 33:41SPEAKER_03: Bob Jennings is coming back, Kyron Lindsay is coming back, Demarion Williams, Kerwin Walton are coming back.
- 33:47SPEAKER_03: Those are guys from last year's team that are going to be Red Raiders next year.
- 33:52SPEAKER_03: Um, very excited about a few of those.
- 33:54SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, less less excited about a few of those.
- 33:58SPEAKER_03: I I don't really know.
- 33:59SPEAKER_03: I want to be positive here.
- 34:01SPEAKER_03: Um, Pop coming back is huge because that guy could have gone wherever he wanted.
- 34:06SPEAKER_02: That guy is spectacular.
- 34:07SPEAKER_03: He's phenomenal, an ace shooter.
- 34:10SPEAKER_03: Um, he was one of those rare true freshmen that competed in the Big 12 immediately.
- 34:14SPEAKER_03: Our best guard since Keenan.
- 34:16SPEAKER_03: I I mean he's up there.
- 34:18SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 34:18SPEAKER_03: I don't know about I don't know about that yet, but um he is a fan.
- 34:24SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 34:24SPEAKER_03: I mean, we had some good guards.
- 34:26SPEAKER_03: Mac was a good guard, you know.
- 34:27SPEAKER_03: Kyler, Kyler had some really good years.
- 34:29SPEAKER_03: Um, but pop definitely is one of the most talented players and one of the best shooters, I think we've seen in a long time here at Texas Tech.
- 34:37SPEAKER_03: So uh I think he was uh uh probably the focal point of Grant McCastan on returners of wanting to get back, was he was going to pop first and being like, dude, we're gonna base this whole team around you.
- 34:49SPEAKER_03: Like, let's let's roll.
- 34:50SPEAKER_03: So obviously, he's gonna be a huge piece of next year's team.
- 34:55SPEAKER_03: Um, Lamar coming back.
- 34:57SPEAKER_03: There was rumors that he was gonna enter the transfer portal that were quickly shot down by the guy himself.
- 35:03SPEAKER_02: Do you have a source on that?
- 35:05SPEAKER_03: I I have no source on that.
- 35:07SPEAKER_03: I have uh just facts of there was a tweet that came out from a very uh uh notable um, you know, Tobias Bass, who is on the athletic now, uh Bass Bomb.
- 35:19SPEAKER_03: He is a Texas Tech grad.
- 35:20SPEAKER_03: Obviously, a lot of Texas Tech fans know him.
- 35:22SPEAKER_03: He uh tweeted out that Lamar was gonna enter the transfer portal.
- 35:26SPEAKER_03: He ultimately didn't.
- 35:27SPEAKER_03: I don't know if there was a quick change of mind after he talked to him.
- 35:30SPEAKER_03: I don't know what the whole deal was.
- 35:32SPEAKER_03: But what we need to know is that Lamar Washington is gonna be in Texas Tech next year, which is awesome.
- 35:36SPEAKER_02: What's the opposite of a bass bomb?
- 35:39SPEAKER_02: A uh a carp.
- 35:42SPEAKER_02: Um you're reaching here.
- 35:44SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 35:44SPEAKER_02: Spark alert.
- 35:48SPEAKER_02: No, I know but the source was himself Bob himself.
- 35:52SPEAKER_02: Wait, no, this is Lamar.
- 35:54SPEAKER_02: I'm just still stuck on Bob.
- 35:57SPEAKER_02: That bit's gonna get old real quick for the the audience, but well, the source was Lamar himself.
- 36:02SPEAKER_02: So yes, uh obviously it didn't land, just like my carp sparkler, but it's I I'm giving it my best try here.
- 36:11SPEAKER_03: Tobias does a really good job with what he does in his work.
- 36:14SPEAKER_03: Um, and you know, sometimes guys change their mind, and this was one of those situations where a guy changed his mind, and uh Lamar's gonna be here.
- 36:21SPEAKER_03: I don't know if it was something the coaching staff told him, but he's gonna be a huge part of next year's team.
- 36:26SPEAKER_03: He's just one of those grinded out defensive um energy guys that is always going to be present and always going to have minutes on a team because of the way he plays.
- 36:35SPEAKER_03: So this is huge.
- 36:36SPEAKER_03: He's and and defensively, you know, if anything for Pop's game that he lacks is a little bit of defense.
- 36:43SPEAKER_03: Lamar makes up for that.
- 36:45SPEAKER_03: So um this is uh a one-two punch that I'm really glad are gonna be in the red and black next year.
- 36:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, I at the at the in the least you get familiarity around the key key piece you want to keep around, right?
- 36:54SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's that's that's gonna be kind of probably the general idea of wanting to keep a lot of these guys around because you're just kind of scratching your head as you're looking at the list um about who you're thrilled about and here you're like yeah, about so I think a lot of it has to do with like you know, like that chemistry and that familiarity of the foundation you've got.
- 37:10SPEAKER_03: No doubt.
- 37:10SPEAKER_02: And he obviously Lamar's a big part of that.
- 37:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely.
- 37:15SPEAKER_03: Shall we do it?
- 37:15SPEAKER_03: Bob Jennings, Bob, Bob, Bob back, baby.
- 37:20SPEAKER_03: He was entered his name in the transfer portal, decided between Virginia and Texas Tech, ultimately decided to come back to school at Texas Tech under Coach Mack.
- 37:31SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm not sure what what Bob's uh role is gonna be next year.
- 37:35SPEAKER_03: I'm not uh I he's gonna play big, a lot of what he did last year, because I think ultimately what Coach Mack wants to do is um play with one big and uh we'll the rest will figure it out.
- 37:49SPEAKER_03: Um whether he's his immediate backup, whether he starts next to him potentially, I don't know.
- 37:54SPEAKER_03: But what I do know is that Robert Jennings has a lot of room to develop and be a really good player.
- 37:59SPEAKER_03: I think he showed a lot of signs last year, um, defensively rebounding that he can be a really, really key contributor to even next year's team, not just down the road, but next year's team.
- 38:10SPEAKER_03: So this was a big pickup.
- 38:11SPEAKER_02: Well, I think I think the big thing about Bob is whenever he was uh talking to Virginia, he remembered Virginia, and then so Bob said Virginia.
- 38:21SPEAKER_02: So that was that was his email back to the recruiter was Virginia.
- 38:25SPEAKER_02: I'm Bob, I'm gonna go play for TechSeg.
- 38:27SPEAKER_02: Sign Bob.
- 38:28SPEAKER_02: So like that's that is that is absolutely what happened.
- 38:31SPEAKER_02: My source, Lamar, says that says that's what happened.
- 38:35SPEAKER_03: So even though you said frick there, I'm still gonna bleep it.
- 38:38SPEAKER_03: Just uh just so it adds a little flavor to the podcast.
- 38:43SPEAKER_03: Uh no, he's uh he's a big guy, six seven coming back.
- 38:48SPEAKER_03: We need some length, we need some height on this year's team.
- 38:51SPEAKER_03: Um, so this is a this is a big retention, I will say, yeah, of Bob Jennings coming back.
- 38:58SPEAKER_03: Um what I think is another key key piece besides maybe it goes pop Lamar and then Kyron Lindsay.
- 39:06SPEAKER_03: Kyron Lindsay, uh which some of the fan base doesn't quite understand, this is a guy who was awesome at Georgia as a true freshman.
- 39:15SPEAKER_03: Decided to transfer midseason last year, committed to Texas Tech.
- 39:19SPEAKER_03: Uh he's going to be a guy next year.
- 39:22SPEAKER_03: Like he's gonna be he's gonna be a starter next year, um, in my eyes.
- 39:26SPEAKER_03: And even I think he could potentially even play the five.
- 39:29SPEAKER_03: We'll talk about some of the transfer portal guys that we've got here, but um, he's six eight, he's a really good rebounder, um, doesn't quite have the outside range that you I think you want, but for a six's eight wing player, I think he is fantastic, and I'm going to have a good career.
- 39:46SPEAKER_02: I can't believe that he this this this mid-season transfer guy just just like I'm going to stick around, even though this this all this is going on.
- 39:56SPEAKER_02: Who does that?
- 39:57SPEAKER_02: That's crazy.
- 39:58SPEAKER_03: He had the same situation as Jalen Tyson did.
- 40:00SPEAKER_03: He came in mid-year, uh, couldn't play for the rest of the year because of transfer rules.
- 40:05SPEAKER_03: Um, and through all of this, I mean, obviously, Coach Mac saw something in him that he wanted to retain him and be a key piece.
- 40:15SPEAKER_03: So this is gonna depend.
- 40:16SPEAKER_03: I think we have a couple scholarship spots left open, but uh, I really think Kyron's gonna be a guy next year that is going to be probably a starter.
- 40:23SPEAKER_02: All right, I gotta say it.
- 40:25SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna I'm gonna say it.
- 40:26SPEAKER_03: Uh-oh.
- 40:27SPEAKER_02: He's got that dog in him.
- 40:28SPEAKER_03: He's got that dog in him.
- 40:30SPEAKER_02: He's in the and the the pun is 100% intended on that.
- 40:33SPEAKER_03: So yeah, I'm excited.
- 40:35SPEAKER_03: I'm excited for Kyron.
- 40:36SPEAKER_03: I think he's going to be a really, really good player next year.
- 40:39SPEAKER_03: Um, two other guys that it looks like we're retaining is Demarian Williams and Kerwin Walton.
- 40:44SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, guys that obviously their uh attitude, uh I don't want to say attitude, their confidence was diminished last year.
- 40:54SPEAKER_03: Um the playstyle didn't work for them, the coaching didn't work for them.
- 40:59SPEAKER_03: They were pieces that we were expecting to be real contributors to last year's team, and they just weren't.
- 41:06SPEAKER_03: I mean, to put it bluntly.
- 41:08SPEAKER_03: Um I don't know, I don't have much expectation for either of these players.
- 41:13SPEAKER_03: Um they could they could surprise me.
- 41:16SPEAKER_03: Maybe Coach Mac pulls something out of them, pulls a little confidence boost in both of them.
- 41:21SPEAKER_03: Uh the skill level, I think, is there for them to be uh division or I keep saying division one, power six level players, but uh I I none until they prove it to me, I'm not gonna say that they're gonna be contributors right away.
- 41:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, that's that's fair.
- 41:38SPEAKER_02: And like I said, I think it's just kind of comes back around to the familiarity and the the foundation that you try to retain, you know, at that in the least, you know, just to keep that, especially whenever you like you're trying to say, like uh how pop is gonna be your your your key piece to it all.
- 41:52SPEAKER_02: You might as well try to keep uh everything to as familiar for him as possible.
- 41:57SPEAKER_02: So while trying to get some new pieces around him, I'm sure I'm sure.
- 42:00SPEAKER_03: For sure, for sure.
- 42:01SPEAKER_03: Um, so speaking of that's that's our returners.
- 42:04SPEAKER_03: We got three guys from the transfer portal that I'm very excited about all three of them.
- 42:09SPEAKER_03: Believe it or not, there's a transfer that comes into Texas Tech.
- 42:12SPEAKER_03: I'm excited.
- 42:12SPEAKER_03: Wow, big shock.
- 42:14SPEAKER_03: Um also, before I mention these three guys, Coach Mac is three for three on visits.
- 42:22SPEAKER_03: Is that good?
- 42:23SPEAKER_03: Getting that player.
- 42:24SPEAKER_03: That's 100%.
- 42:25SPEAKER_03: If my calculation is 100% good, 100% is pretty good.
- 42:29SPEAKER_02: Okay, that's that's what I needed.
- 42:32SPEAKER_03: That tells me that a coach who gets a guy on campus to take a look at everything, they're gonna get that guy.
- 42:40SPEAKER_03: Um, or at least have a really, really good chance.
- 42:42SPEAKER_03: Now, you know, securing that visit in a first-year head coach has been difficult, I imagine.
- 42:48SPEAKER_03: Um, we haven't quite got some of the guys that we've wanted, but we have got three guys that I think are going to be and definitely going to be instant contributors on next year's team.
- 42:58SPEAKER_03: Um, the first one, what what you got some?
- 43:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I was gonna say I already know what Grant does when they get there.
- 43:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, was he tells them as you know, steak and salmon every night?
- 43:11SPEAKER_02: You win?
- 43:12SPEAKER_03: Steak and salmon every night.
- 43:14SPEAKER_03: We got a pretty kick-ass practice facility.
- 43:17SPEAKER_03: What else could you want?
- 43:20SPEAKER_02: What more do you need?
- 43:21SPEAKER_03: Um okay.
- 43:23SPEAKER_03: Darion Williams, transferred from Nevada.
- 43:26SPEAKER_03: He's a forward, he's about 6'6, 6'5.
- 43:29SPEAKER_03: Um, pretty good shooter last year.
- 43:31SPEAKER_03: Was a uh, I think the freshman of the year in the Mountain West.
- 43:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the from the Mountain Best.
- 43:36SPEAKER_03: Mountain Best Division.
- 43:38SPEAKER_03: Um he's gonna be really good.
- 43:40SPEAKER_03: Top saying division.
- 43:41SPEAKER_03: Mountain West Division?
- 43:43SPEAKER_03: Conference?
- 43:44SPEAKER_03: Conference.
- 43:45SPEAKER_03: Conference?
- 43:46SPEAKER_03: Awesome.
- 43:48SPEAKER_03: He's fantastic.
- 43:49SPEAKER_03: Darion Williams.
- 43:51SPEAKER_03: Um I I don't know much about his game.
- 43:54SPEAKER_03: Uh there's certain YouTube Highlight reels that you can go watch for many.
- 44:00SPEAKER_03: Minutes on minutes of Nevada basketball last year.
- 44:05SPEAKER_02: I'm talking compilations of three episodes.
- 44:11SPEAKER_02: They're mixed.
- 44:12SPEAKER_02: No mixed with other teams.
- 44:14SPEAKER_03: Big big Wolfpack YouTubers.
- 44:16SPEAKER_03: Go look out for them.
- 44:18SPEAKER_02: It's you know, my the Wolfpack is like my second favorite team.
- 44:21SPEAKER_02: And as a big Nevada Wolfpack guy, I am I can speak for the rest of the Wolfpack Nish that we're sad to see him go.
- 44:29SPEAKER_02: Um, because we think there's a lot of potential, a lot of potinch there.
- 44:34SPEAKER_03: Nevada Wolfpack, second favorite team.
- 44:37SPEAKER_03: Um, no, I know we're joking around, but he's actually a really good player.
- 44:41SPEAKER_03: He he was like a 40% three-point shooter last year, uh, rebounded at a really high rate.
- 44:46SPEAKER_03: Um, he's he might be a starter.
- 44:48SPEAKER_03: If not, he's one of your first guys off the bench.
- 44:51SPEAKER_03: He's still young, he's in the same group as he's gonna be a sophomore next year, same as pop, uh Lamar, Bob Jennings, all those guys.
- 44:58SPEAKER_03: Um I keep cracking myself.
- 45:04SPEAKER_03: He is Bob.
- 45:05SPEAKER_03: I keep cracking myself up with Bob Jennings.
- 45:08SPEAKER_02: Um I apologize.
- 45:12SPEAKER_02: It's the offseason.
- 45:14SPEAKER_03: Darion Williams, he's gonna be very good.
- 45:18SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm expecting him to be a uh a guy that keeps progressing into himself and uh will be a real player for you.
- 45:25SPEAKER_03: Chance McMillan is another guard that we got from Grand Canyon University.
- 45:30SPEAKER_03: Go loops, not online, actually has a real campus, a real campus, it's a real place, Grand Canyon University.
- 45:38SPEAKER_03: Um Chance McMillan's a really good player.
- 45:41SPEAKER_03: He started at the uh played a lot of point guard, played some two for them, shot the ball really well.
- 45:46SPEAKER_03: Um, I don't know if he's a starter yet for Texas Tech, but again, he's a guy that could potentially break into that role a la Adonis Arms um in the sweet 16 year.
- 45:58SPEAKER_02: Um nice, nice, nice French there.
- 46:01SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 46:01SPEAKER_02: Um, dude, all right, before we continue.
- 46:05SPEAKER_02: Uh it's yes, they have a real campus, but why are they called Grand Canyon University?
- 46:09SPEAKER_02: Aren't they in Phoenix?
- 46:10SPEAKER_02: Uh I think they're in Phoenix.
- 46:13SPEAKER_02: That is stolen valor.
- 46:15SPEAKER_03: Phoenix is a short six-hour drive from the canyon.
- 46:18SPEAKER_02: That's that's like, yeah, well, welcome to Big Bend University here here in San Antonio, Texas.
- 46:26SPEAKER_02: That's that is that is Phoenix.
- 46:28SPEAKER_02: Are they actually in Phoenix?
- 46:29SPEAKER_02: I am pretty positive they're in Phoenix.
- 46:31SPEAKER_03: Oh, that's not good.
- 46:33SPEAKER_03: I thought they could like walk outside of the university and be like, oh, there's this big canyon.
- 46:38SPEAKER_02: We get a lot of lope listeners on this on this podcast, so I need I need to I need I need to pull that up.
- 46:45SPEAKER_02: Why is Yahoo my default search engine?
- 46:49SPEAKER_02: I hate when this happens.
- 46:53SPEAKER_03: Tristan's back in 2003.
- 46:55SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, uh Yahoo being his main search engine.
- 46:59SPEAKER_03: All right, all right, all right, all right, all right.
- 47:01SPEAKER_03: Where are we?
- 47:01SPEAKER_03: Where are we?
- 47:02SPEAKER_03: Where while while he's searching, Grand Canyon, you're Phoenix Street.
- 47:06SPEAKER_03: Okay, wow, surprising.
- 47:08SPEAKER_02: 70,000 students enrolled online.
- 47:12SPEAKER_03: Okay, online.
- 47:13SPEAKER_02: So their games are virtual, they have like a bunch of laptops set up in the student section.
- 47:17SPEAKER_03: Grand Canyon made the NCAA tournament last year, something that Texas Tech did not do.
- 47:22SPEAKER_03: So we're we're crapping on them for no reason right now.
- 47:26SPEAKER_03: Um, no, Chance McMillan's a really good player, really good player, really good shooter, something that we're gonna need if we're gonna play a small ball lineup.
- 47:35SPEAKER_03: We need some shooting.
- 47:36SPEAKER_03: This is gonna provide that big pickup.
- 47:39SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 47:40SPEAKER_02: I don't know how that was more about his former school than the man himself, and we apologize for that.
- 47:45SPEAKER_03: No doubt.
- 47:46SPEAKER_03: Um, another commitment that we got that actually put a spark into the fan base for the first time in a long time.
- 47:52SPEAKER_03: Um, for the basketball Twitter Texas Tech squad.
- 47:57SPEAKER_03: Um Warren Washington, big guy, seven feet tall, transferred from Arizona State.
- 48:05SPEAKER_03: He's also like 24 years old.
- 48:08SPEAKER_03: So he's an yeah, he's been in college basketball for we have him for one year.
- 48:14SPEAKER_03: Um, he's a grad transfer.
- 48:16SPEAKER_03: He's going to be the same thing that Bryson Williams was, um, that a lot of other guys that have been in the past, just one-year guys for Texas Tech, but actually gonna be a focal point of this team.
- 48:28SPEAKER_03: Uh, he's gonna start at the five.
- 48:31SPEAKER_03: He is a great pick and roll big man, um, has no outside game whatsoever, which is fine for a guy that's seven feet tall, um, great rebounder, and he contributed for Arizona State.
- 48:43SPEAKER_03: Arizona State was a play-in team for the uh NCAA tournament.
- 48:48SPEAKER_03: I think they lost to they were one of those 11 seeds that had to do the play-in game.
- 48:52SPEAKER_03: Um, but they were decent last year, and he was a real contributor and blocks a lot of shots.
- 48:56SPEAKER_03: He's a good defensive player, and uh, if you use him in the right way, he's going to be um a really, really solid weapon for you.
- 49:05SPEAKER_02: So, can we expect this guy to be like a real plug-and-play?
- 49:08SPEAKER_02: Uh kind of like a fill-in spot as uh Grant gets things going, you know, like a true, a true transfer in the transferist ways.
- 49:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he's a he's a Tariq Owens.
- 49:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, best case scenario is he's Tariq Owens.
- 49:22SPEAKER_03: You know, he he contributes really well for one year at your university, but he's uh um I defensively, he's a really good player.
- 49:31SPEAKER_03: Uh pick and roll, I I can see him and pop really meshing on a pick and roll game.
- 49:35SPEAKER_03: Um, Ali oops up there, if it's leaving Pop open for a step back, three feet behind the three-point line, three-pointer, great.
- 49:43SPEAKER_03: Um, but Warren Washington is going to be a starter for you and going to be a key piece for this peep for this team next year.
- 49:52SPEAKER_02: And I mean, you know, you you know we really pissed off the uh the the soon-to-be fellow rival in comp interconference Sun Devils on that one.
- 49:59SPEAKER_02: And we apologize for that.
- 50:01SPEAKER_02: Sorry about the the poor welcoming on that one.
- 50:04SPEAKER_03: Stuff sorry, devil bros.
- 50:06SPEAKER_03: Um, but you know, we gotta we we needed a big man.
- 50:09SPEAKER_03: We needed a big man very badly because we have approximately one now uh on the roster, and that is um, no, not particularly, but uh we still have two scholarships open right now.
- 50:22SPEAKER_03: That's not even including the freshman, who I guess we could talk about right now, Drew Steffi and Jason Jackson.
- 50:30SPEAKER_03: Um, it looks like Drew is 100% in on Texas Tech.
- 50:34SPEAKER_03: The big mystery, the big mystery around Texas Tech basketball is Jason Jackson.
- 50:38SPEAKER_03: Is he going to be a player on our team next year?
- 50:41SPEAKER_03: Does he even exist?
- 50:43SPEAKER_03: What is happening with Jason Jackson?
- 50:46SPEAKER_03: And I'm here to tell you that I have no idea.
- 50:49SPEAKER_02: Um I feel like Drew, but quick on Drew, I feel like he's been committed to tech for like five years now.
- 50:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it really feels like Drew's been on the team already for like two, three years.
- 51:00SPEAKER_02: I I can't believe I can't believe he's not on the team yet.
- 51:03SPEAKER_02: It's it just blows my mind.
- 51:05SPEAKER_03: He will be on the team, despite some rumors that when Coach Mac came in, he was looking at a clean house and just tell there was a rumor that came out when Mac came at uh when Mac was officially hired, and for like a week they were saying, Oh, yeah, he's looking at a clean house, he's getting rid of everybody.
- 51:21SPEAKER_03: We're gonna have 12, 13 players.
- 51:24SPEAKER_03: Back your bags, bozo.
- 51:26SPEAKER_03: Get out of Loving.
- 51:29SPEAKER_02: Here's a stake to go.
- 51:31SPEAKER_02: Get out.
- 51:32SPEAKER_03: The salmon doesn't stay good very long.
- 51:36SPEAKER_02: Or thinking about your health, but get get going.
- 51:39SPEAKER_02: You don't want it to go box of salmon.
- 51:44SPEAKER_03: Drew Steppy will be a red raider next year.
- 51:47SPEAKER_03: I'm not sure about Jason Jackson.
- 51:49SPEAKER_02: Um and Drew Steppe's family fits in because they are perpetually online.
- 51:53SPEAKER_03: Yes, they are.
- 51:54SPEAKER_03: Matt is an all-time follow on Twitter.
- 51:57SPEAKER_03: Not not as good as Richard Isaacs.
- 52:00SPEAKER_03: Not even close.
- 52:01SPEAKER_03: Who is a new follower of Talk and Tech Podcast?
- 52:03SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 52:04SPEAKER_02: Very big news.
- 52:04SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 52:05SPEAKER_03: Thank you to Dad Dad Isaacs.
- 52:07SPEAKER_02: Uh please, we we gotta get him on.
- 52:11SPEAKER_03: Elite follow on Twitter.
- 52:13SPEAKER_03: Yes, is is Pop Isaac's dad.
- 52:16SPEAKER_02: We'll get Pop Isaac's dad on.
- 52:18SPEAKER_02: We'll just bring a list of various questions that aren't even basketball related and just see how he answers them.
- 52:23SPEAKER_02: Just see what kind of advice he can give us.
- 52:27SPEAKER_02: We'll do like an AMA.
- 52:29SPEAKER_03: So, Richard, tell me about your political leanings.
- 52:34SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 52:34SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 52:35SPEAKER_02: You're gonna walk away with it not having any better ideas what he thinks about it.
- 52:39SPEAKER_02: No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 52:41SPEAKER_03: He he speaks in riddles, which is crabs.
- 52:45SPEAKER_03: I it's it's most of it is nonsense, but he's got his own way of getting his point across.
- 52:51SPEAKER_03: Um like a wise hermit.
- 52:54SPEAKER_03: I I think a lot of people are wondering what these freshmen are actually gonna contribute next year.
- 52:59SPEAKER_03: Um, Drew's a shooter, so I could see him potentially you know having a small roll off the bench, getting 10-15 minutes a game.
- 53:08SPEAKER_03: Uh, just if he gets hot, he stays in.
- 53:11SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, but I I don't think these guys are really gonna contribute right away, potentially be guys to look at in year two or year three of uh of Coach Mac.
- 53:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 53:20SPEAKER_02: I mean again, they're freshmen.
- 53:22SPEAKER_02: Well, I mean, what we expect these guys to just hop in and go crazy.
- 53:24SPEAKER_02: Not everybody's a pop, you know.
- 53:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly, exactly.
- 53:27SPEAKER_03: But if he can shoot the ball and he's competitive and he's playing hard and learns defense and everything like that, I mean, feel free.
- 53:34SPEAKER_03: Play play him 20 minutes a game.
- 53:36SPEAKER_03: That's great.
- 53:37SPEAKER_03: Um, I know this basketball segment has gone on far too long.
- 53:41SPEAKER_02: Way too long.
- 53:42SPEAKER_02: It's been like over an hour.
- 53:43SPEAKER_02: It's been ridiculous.
- 53:44SPEAKER_02: We may need to summarize everything else.
- 53:47SPEAKER_03: We may, we may, but there's one more thing, and that is a guy to watch out for for next year's team.
- 53:51SPEAKER_03: He's gonna be another freshman.
- 53:53SPEAKER_03: Class of 2023 from Finland.
- 53:57SPEAKER_03: Um, which the Finland to Texas Tech pipeline is actually kind of running deep here.
- 54:04SPEAKER_03: Okay, we have a women's basketball player that is from Finland.
- 54:08SPEAKER_03: We have I there's another one that I believe.
- 54:10SPEAKER_03: Oh, no, no, no.
- 54:11SPEAKER_03: The girl from UTEP that just transferred to Texas Tech Women's Basketball is also from Finland.
- 54:16SPEAKER_03: So we have two women's basketball players from Finland.
- 54:20SPEAKER_03: We might get this one too.
- 54:21SPEAKER_03: He's gonna be a true freshman if he commits.
- 54:24SPEAKER_03: Uh, his name, and forgive me, uh Emeli Yalaho, I think is how you say it.
- 54:33SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 54:34SPEAKER_02: Uh I'm not gonna try, dude.
- 54:35SPEAKER_02: I'm not gonna, I'm not even giving it a good call try.
- 54:38SPEAKER_03: He visited Texas Tech recently, like actually got on campus.
- 54:41SPEAKER_03: And as we said before, we know what happens when people come to campus and actually visit Texas Tech.
- 54:48SPEAKER_03: It usually leads to good things.
- 54:50SPEAKER_02: I've said it for a really long time that the Finnish pipeline is like untapped potential in basketball.
- 54:59SPEAKER_02: Like the the good folks of Finland are just waiting to get discovered, man.
- 55:03SPEAKER_02: Like they're they're just they they they're just waving their hands.
- 55:06SPEAKER_02: And when we whenever we look at uh a place like Helensky, Finland, and compare it to Lubbock, Texas.
- 55:11SPEAKER_02: That is there's it's like looking at mirror images.
- 55:15SPEAKER_02: So, you know, one is very cold and frozen, another one is sometimes cold and frozen.
- 55:21SPEAKER_02: So you're you can see the similarities.
- 55:23SPEAKER_03: The population of Finland is 5.5 million people.
- 55:27SPEAKER_03: Um a lot of snow.
- 55:31SPEAKER_03: Oh I I know nothing else about trees.
- 55:35SPEAKER_02: Trees, yeah, I got trees.
- 55:37SPEAKER_03: They have trees.
- 55:38SPEAKER_03: You heard it here first.
- 55:40SPEAKER_03: Was that right?
- 55:40SPEAKER_02: Is Helenski their capital?
- 55:42SPEAKER_03: Um Finland capital.
- 55:46SPEAKER_02: I need to go brag to my wife if I nail this.
- 55:49SPEAKER_03: Holinski.
- 55:52SPEAKER_03: Am I saying it right?
- 55:53SPEAKER_03: Helsinki.
- 55:54SPEAKER_03: Helsinki.
- 55:55SPEAKER_02: All right, well, good listeners need to our good our good Finnish loyal listeners will give us a a good correction on that one.
- 56:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, for sure.
- 56:02SPEAKER_03: Uh, the Finnish pipeline to Lubik runs deep.
- 56:05SPEAKER_03: Um this would be great.
- 56:08SPEAKER_03: This wait, oh no, Ludwig is Swedish.
- 56:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's Swedish.
- 56:11SPEAKER_02: Hey, that's that Nordic pipeline.
- 56:13SPEAKER_03: The Nordic pipeline, the Nordic Alliance, right there.
- 56:16SPEAKER_03: It just keeps growing.
- 56:17SPEAKER_03: This is insane.
- 56:18SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 56:19SPEAKER_02: Ludwig's a whole man, dude.
- 56:21SPEAKER_03: Ludwig, I can we start talking about Ludwig Aberg being like one of the best athletes to ever come to Texas Tech.
- 56:28SPEAKER_02: I think it's time to start having that discussion that the Swedish fish goes crazy.
- 56:34SPEAKER_03: The guy's gonna be in the PGA tour like next year.
- 56:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 56:39SPEAKER_02: He like he like took he has like the big 12 tournament record in men's golf now.
- 56:44SPEAKER_02: And he it's he took he easily took the solo men's trophy.
- 56:47SPEAKER_02: Like it was nobody's like, like it was no issue.
- 56:50SPEAKER_03: So Ludwig Ludwig is out of here playing with five-year-olds.
- 56:53SPEAKER_03: Like he rules.
- 56:56SPEAKER_02: I I want to, I do want to get his address.
- 56:58SPEAKER_02: I know that sounds okay, that's a weird way to start the sentence.
- 57:01SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 57:04SPEAKER_02: His mailing address.
- 57:05SPEAKER_02: Because like from talking pot talking tech with love to the Swedish fish, and just and just have bags.
- 57:12SPEAKER_02: A big bag of Swedish fish.
- 57:14SPEAKER_02: And just be like, we we know where it all started.
- 57:16SPEAKER_02: And then whenever he's at the PJ tour, you'll like lift the bag up out of his golf bag unopened because it's good luck, and just give it shout outs to the guys that always believed in him.
- 57:26SPEAKER_03: I actually think to give it another shout out to Ramblin' Raiders, I actually think they had Ludwig on their pod.
- 57:32SPEAKER_03: No way! Oh, I think they did.
- 57:33SPEAKER_03: I think you're right.
- 57:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I want to say it wasn't too long ago, but uh good for them.
- 57:38SPEAKER_03: Good for them.
- 57:39SPEAKER_03: Uh, because Ludwig is a catch.
- 57:42SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 57:42SPEAKER_03: Oh Swedish fish.
- 57:44SPEAKER_03: Oh bam! Oh nailed that one.
- 57:48SPEAKER_02: The Swedish and Swedish pipeline to the nation podcasts is real.
- 57:54SPEAKER_02: I've been talking about it for a while.
- 57:57SPEAKER_03: We move on.
- 57:59SPEAKER_02: So we hey, we hit golf now.
- 58:01SPEAKER_03: We did, we did.
- 58:02SPEAKER_03: We had golf.
- 58:03SPEAKER_03: We don't usually hit on golf, so shout out, shouts out to golf.
- 58:06SPEAKER_03: Um football?
- 58:09SPEAKER_03: Football?
- 58:10SPEAKER_03: Let's touch on football, huh?
- 58:12SPEAKER_03: Football.
- 58:13SPEAKER_02: We didn't really conclude basketball, just really turned into utter nonsense.
- 58:17SPEAKER_03: Look, look, okay, okay.
- 58:18SPEAKER_02: Be patient.
- 58:20SPEAKER_02: Let's spend another 30 minutes on this.
- 58:22SPEAKER_03: Be patient with basketball, be patient with Coach Mac.
- 58:25SPEAKER_03: He's got something rolling, he's won everywhere he's been.
- 58:28SPEAKER_03: He my mindset is going to be prove me wrong.
- 58:32SPEAKER_03: I'm expecting you to win.
- 58:34SPEAKER_03: Prove me wrong.
- 58:35SPEAKER_03: You've won everywhere you've been.
- 58:36SPEAKER_03: You've been talking a big game about you know, everywhere that you have won.
- 58:40SPEAKER_03: Let's let's get a couple more guys in here and let's freaking roll next year, man.
- 58:44SPEAKER_03: I mean, um, with what Grant McCasslin has done in the past, is that he's won with lesser talent on his teams.
- 58:54SPEAKER_03: I mean, North Texas had like one 21 season before he got there, and then they had five.
- 58:59SPEAKER_03: So he obviously knows how to win.
- 59:01SPEAKER_03: Um, I be patient with the coaching staff.
- 59:04SPEAKER_03: There's stuff that's out of anybody's control right now that is working through.
- 59:09SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, there's uh contractual situations and everything like that.
- 59:13SPEAKER_03: So I would expect a full staff to be announced probably in the next couple weeks.
- 59:17SPEAKER_03: Um be patient and things are gonna work out.
- 59:20SPEAKER_02: Hashtag trust the process.
- 59:22SPEAKER_02: I mean, you kept saying prove me wrong, you won everywhere.
- 59:24SPEAKER_02: Do you want him to not win here?
- 59:26SPEAKER_02: Is that where is that what you want to be proven wrong on?
- 59:28SPEAKER_03: Okay, no, that was that was bad phrasing.
- 59:30SPEAKER_03: That's a good call.
- 59:32SPEAKER_03: That was bad phrasing.
- 59:33SPEAKER_03: I do not want prove me wrong.
- 59:35SPEAKER_03: I don't want I don't want Texas Tech basketball to be bad.
- 59:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I want to get that out there.
- 59:41SPEAKER_03: Um, but be patient.
- 59:42SPEAKER_03: We'll see as the process goes.
- 59:45SPEAKER_03: Trust the process.
- 59:46SPEAKER_03: Good move.
- 59:47SPEAKER_02: Good vibes.
- 59:47SPEAKER_02: All right, that's that's a good that's a good ender on a whole lot of deterioration at the end of basketball.
- 59:54SPEAKER_03: A whole lot of nonsense, but vibes are high.
- 59:56SPEAKER_03: Vibes are good.
- 59:57SPEAKER_03: Um, if you can't tell the whiskey is flowing.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_03: Um, football.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_03: Emmanuel Okoye, the number one player in England, names Tech as a finalist.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_03: He's an edge edge rusher.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_03: Um, Tennessee, Texas Tech, and USC.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_03: The usual suspects.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_03: Classic battle of Titans.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_03: Classic battle of historically great football programs.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_03: Um after this guy.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_03: He named Tech in his top three.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_03: Joey continues to Joey.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_02: Once again, look at London, England, and look at Lubbock, Texas.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_02: It's got same place, everything's everything you need.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_02: It's got bridges, it's got clocks, it's got rain sometimes.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_03: It's got some sort of dirt or foundation.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's got some sort of ground you walk on.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_02: I'm just I'm telling you, even concrete is there.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_02: You got sidewalks, bro.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_02: So I'm telling, I'm saying the pieces are there, but how crazy is that?
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_02: I don't think a British dude, we're getting English, we're looking at an Englishman here, but hey, Joey, Joey recruits.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_03: I'm convinced Joey does not sleep.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_03: Joey McGuire recruits non-stop.
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_03: He's looking in England, he's looking in Finland, he's looking in Australia, he's looking all over the world for new recruits to play football.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_02: And so, this is why you hire a Texas high school football coach so you can get guys from London, England.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_02: All right, that is the end, that is the end goal.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_02: That is the formula.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_02: I've said this a long time.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_03: No, but keep an eye out.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_03: This could be another guy, four-star edge rusher, number one player in England.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_03: I don't know what weight that carries.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_02: What do these tapes look like?
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_02: Like, it's just this guy like destroying Pacy White dudes, like oh no, you I just wanted how many little throw, you know.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_02: It's just like, and he's just blowing them up, you know.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_03: I didn't know if you'd throw out the the Eagle accent.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_02: I someone had to do it.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_03: You had to do it.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_03: We we throw out the England accent when we're together way too much, way too often.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_03: It's and and it will continue if we do get this guy and we're gonna get that guy.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be a bit, it's gonna be stupid.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_03: Gonna be just as stupid of a bit as Bob Jennings's.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_02: Watch him speak like the king, it's just like, oh, it's yeah, right.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_02: You know, it's just we're playing some football.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_03: Yes, no, totally not Cockney accent that we assume every British version.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_03: Bigger news.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_02: We're wasting so much time on everything.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_03: Bigger, bigger news.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_03: Micah Hudson, five star, true five-star, not five star on whatever rank, it's five star everywhere.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_03: This would be the highest recruit in Texas Tech football history.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_03: Um, wide receiver.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_03: He is officially scheduled a visit to Texas Tech and a visit to the University of Texas.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_03: Um according to all outlets, and correct me if I'm wrong, it really seems like Texas Tech has a real shot here at this guy.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_02: Well, I mean, we're in the top two.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_02: I would really, really hope so, you know.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_02: And it's this is definitely whatever, like uh, you know, uh, obviously, I was very serious about locking down the London thing, but this is definitely whenever those connections in the Texas high school football ring really come into play.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_02: Um, and it this is a temple local guy, you know.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_02: This is right here in my area here.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_02: And um, man, it'd be go to go to his house.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_02: Convince him.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna drop by, bring some cookies.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_02: Bring there you go, and say, hey, if you're thinking about it, I think you should go to Texas Tech.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_02: And that and he he and his he and his parents will be like, I like this, these are good cookies.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_02: Um, definitely store bot.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_02: But you know, I think I think I think I think he's got the right idea.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_02: But no, dude, seriously, I think this is a great option.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_02: You know, you see a lot of people making the argument for UT because of the quarterback room, but like that is our argument as well.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_02: That's the absolute worst.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_03: It's the worst argument ever.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_03: What yeah?
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_03: Because you have a guy who happens to have the well, he is of the family.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_03: Because you have a guy with the last name Manning on his on his jersey, you think that's like an automatic boom, perfect.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they were acting like it was set the world on fire last season.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_02: You know, he'll see he was by all measures a disappointment to people.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_03: And Quinn Ewers had a poor season by metrics.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_03: He had a poor, poor season.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_03: Now, the whole thing is his potential is Quinn Ewers gonna be the guy this year.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_03: He very well could have a step and be a phenomenal quarterback.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_03: From what we've seen so far, and from what people are saying, that the quarterback room is gonna be this, nobody has shown it.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_03: So show it before you start touting it.
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_02: We have two dudes have absolutely slung it already.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_02: So it's uh like I said, like I think I think our quarterback room is even more of an asset than them, besides.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_02: I mean, I guess they have name alone, but um, you know, it was obviously you if he had it come to Texas Tech, you'd obviously have been amazing, you know, spectacular.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_03: So uh he would have been the third string behind you know Baron Morton and Tony.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_02: I mean, so I'm saying those people would have been spectacular, but still third string because two good dudes ahead of him are gods, right?
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_02: So um no, but dude, seriously, I I think this is a great shot here, and I think this would be a real statement uh for Joey McGuire.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_02: Obviously, get the greatest, I mean the highest-rated recruit in school history that says something.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's what you're hired here to be, is the recruiter more than anything.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_02: So I I have high hopes.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_02: Um, and because I really do think if we'd land him, this he can really open up some doors for a lot of other kids as well.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you get a five-star here, you get multiple that follow.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_03: It just is what it is.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_03: Joey is the recruiting, the recruiting genius that we think he is.
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_03: So um I I would I I I'm just really hyped.
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_03: I'm just really hyped that we're in the conversation because Texas Tech Football was not in the conversation two years ago.
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_02: So now Matt Wells, I don't think Matt Wells is getting Mr.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_02: London England and Mr.
- 1:05:57SPEAKER_02: Uh Lake Dalton.
- 1:05:59SPEAKER_02: Uh I don't think that was happening.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_03: No, it wasn't happening for Matt Wells.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_03: So um Tyree Wilson got drafted between the time again.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_03: We haven't recorded a podcast in a month.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_03: So Tyree Wilson is going from Red Raider to Oakland, or not Oakland, Vegas Raider.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_03: Whoa, sir.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_03: Throw me back a little bit.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_03: Um, no so far, real old school.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_03: I know, I know.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_03: But back in my day, the Raiders were Oakland and not Vegas.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_03: Um, Tyree Wilson, pick number seven, another top 10 pick for Texas Tech, another first rounder, and from defense.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_02: But like I please, let's just annihilate the no defense at Texas Tech uh uh stigma.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_02: Please just flush it down the drain.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_02: And dude, Tyree's really come out as like an awesome ambassador for Texas Tech.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_02: The dude loves his school, the dude respects his roots, and I love him for it.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_02: The way he's been talking about it, like now what I really loved one of the statements that I really loved, you know, giving mad respect to a a guy that came before him saying that you know what what Patrick Mahomes has been for offense to Texas Tech, I want to be the Patrick Mahomes for defense for Texas Tech.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_02: And I think that's just an awesome statement.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_02: The only crappy thing about the situation is he has to play Patrick Mahomes a ton now.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_03: I was about to say he got drafted the same division as Patrick Mahomes.
- 1:07:27SPEAKER_03: He is going to play, they are going to play twice this year.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_03: And now, another sidebar.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_03: My uncle has season tickets to the Vegas Raiders.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_03: Uh, really random.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_03: He lives in Texas.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_03: I don't know why he does it.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_03: He flies out the Vegas, he has no kids, so he just does whatever he wants.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_03: Um, no, he goes probably two or three games a year and then sells the rest.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_03: But immediately on draft day, I reached out to him and I was like, hey, just uh reaching out about those Chiefs Raiders uh tickets, you know, just in case you're looking to sell them, yeah, whatever it is, uh, potentially, because I want to see a freaking Red Raider versus a Red Raider in the NFL in a divisional game in Vegas.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_03: The greatest thing ever.
- 1:08:16SPEAKER_03: And he was like, hey, um, so normally I'd be like, in the nicest way, in the in the nicest way, he legitimately told me the price for what these tickets go for, and he told me it's the Mahomes effect.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_03: Um, the Raiders Chiefs game in Vegas every year, he sells his tickets for$850 a seat.
- 1:08:48SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_03: Easy.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_03: Selfishly, if he just gave them to his favorite nephew or his only nephew, as I like to say, um he would be losing out on$1,700.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_03: Which I don't want to do that to my guy.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_03: So I will probably not be in attendance for that game, but I did reach out.
- 1:09:11SPEAKER_02: So after you after he said that number two, you didn't respond with so I did not respond.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_03: I did not respond.
- 1:09:19SPEAKER_03: Um, I did not respond because I threw my phone away.
- 1:09:22SPEAKER_03: I threw my phone away.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_03: I was like, what please?
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_03: No, okay, I get it.
- 1:09:28SPEAKER_03: Um, so no, I will be watching on TV Tyree Wilson and Patrick Mahomes play against each other twice next year.
- 1:09:36SPEAKER_02: That is they're gonna be playing so much now, and I really please tackle him gingerly, please, Tyree.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_03: I am buying the jersey now.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_03: Are you?
- 1:09:47SPEAKER_03: Yes, you already have it?
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_03: I'm going to buy it.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_03: I have not bought it yet, but I'm going to buy it.
- 1:09:53SPEAKER_03: Get a black one.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_03: Yes, exactly.
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_03: Something to wear, exactly.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_03: I did that with I did that with Crabtree for probably the last two years of college.
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_03: Is I just wore the Raiders Crabtree jersey for every home game.
- 1:10:09SPEAKER_02: And again, I and he had the red Mahomes jersey, which was the correct color as well.
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_02: So correct.
- 1:10:13SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, no, and it was funny to see Patrick uh tweet, you know, congrats, and please go easy on me.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_02: So that was that was that was a pretty great uh back and forth there.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_02: So now, dude, it's seriously, all the love to a man.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_02: Um I was just in the middle of reading an article before we hopped on this on the athletic about him.
- 1:10:27SPEAKER_02: And the dude just seems like like a ray of sunshine, he just like seems like an orb of positivity, and he just he really seems like a super stand-up dude.
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_02: And I can't wait to see him uh go crazy in the NFL.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he's gonna be awesome.
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_03: Uh, I mean, you can't teach length, you can't teach size.
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_03: Um, he's an edge rusher that's six foot six and 290 pounds.
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_03: Like, you you don't you don't find those very often, even in the NFL.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm expecting big things from Tyree.
- 1:10:53SPEAKER_03: I'm really I'm really happy for him, really proud of him.
- 1:10:56SPEAKER_03: Thanks, Matt Wells.
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_03: Thank you, Matt Wells.
- 1:11:01SPEAKER_03: Matt Wells brought us Texas Tech greats like uh Jordan Brooks, Tyree Wilson, and Henry Columbi.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_02: Hey, hey, you Colin Schooler.
- 1:11:11SPEAKER_02: He's an XFL champion, by the way.
- 1:11:13SPEAKER_03: XFL champion, Colin Schooler.
- 1:11:15SPEAKER_03: Thank you for that that shout out because I would have missed it.
- 1:11:19SPEAKER_03: Uh Dallas Renegades, or yeah, I think that's the team.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_03: Um, they won the XFL championship.
- 1:11:25SPEAKER_03: Colin Schooler rules.
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_02: Let's go, man.
- 1:11:28SPEAKER_02: I we we loved him.
- 1:11:29SPEAKER_02: And hey, like you he really just glazed over Columbia.
- 1:11:33SPEAKER_02: I mean, come on now.
- 1:11:34SPEAKER_02: He's he's getting he got a camp.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_02: Let's go.
- 1:11:36SPEAKER_02: Hollywood Henry.
- 1:11:36SPEAKER_02: I've been entering.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_03: We were talking about this pre-pod.
- 1:11:39SPEAKER_03: Hollywood Henry um transfer Marshall.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, we're still blocked, of course.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_03: I couldn't be being blocked.
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_03: Hollywood Henry got a mini camp invite to some team.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_03: Everybody gets mini-camp invites.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_03: Um, Hollywood Henry went to Marshall, as we all know.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_03: Yes, got benched at Marshall, um, then immediately changed all of his stuff to I went to Texas Tech.
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_03: Um, I am not a Marshall quarterback.
- 1:12:10SPEAKER_03: I am not a Marshall alum.
- 1:12:11SPEAKER_03: I am a Texas Tech alum.
- 1:12:13SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_03: Give me my respect.
- 1:12:18SPEAKER_03: This is sounded like a roast sesh.
- 1:12:20SPEAKER_03: I don't want to roast.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_02: No, we love we love ourselves some clubmy.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_02: Unblock us.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_03: Unblock us.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_03: Damion Harmon, unblock us.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_03: I don't know what I still don't know what we did.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_02: I don't know what we did.
- 1:12:34SPEAKER_02: Stop pissing people off, bro.
- 1:12:35SPEAKER_02: I didn't want I don't want to do it as the antagonistic.
- 1:12:39SPEAKER_03: I tag no players.
- 1:12:41SPEAKER_03: I tag, I tag a player when I am giving them like the utmost respect.
- 1:12:46SPEAKER_03: And then these players that block us, they search their names.
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_03: You you know Henry Columbia and Davion Harman search their names and said, This guy is shitting on me.
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_03: Or this guy is giving me a subtle jab, so I am going to block him.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_03: Respect.
- 1:13:05SPEAKER_03: Respect.
- 1:13:10SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 1:13:14SPEAKER_02: It's way too long.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_02: It's off the rails.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_02: Happy Mother's Day.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_02: Happy Mother's Day.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_02: We haven't even mentioned.
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_02: We know what we haven't mentioned yet.
- 1:13:22SPEAKER_02: Are we done with football?
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_02: We won the track and field Big 12 championship.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_02: We did it.
- 1:13:29SPEAKER_02: Cheers.
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_02: Cheers to that, brother.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_03: We are national champions in track and field, and we won by a lot.
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_02: Not national.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we are.
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_03: Okay, Big 12.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_03: Big 12.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_03: You're right.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_03: Big 12.
- 1:13:41SPEAKER_02: Division one, big 12.
- 1:13:45SPEAKER_02: Division one champs.
- 1:13:51SPEAKER_03: Wes Kitley's the goat.
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_03: Wes Kitley is the goat.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_03: Like it that's there's no joking with that.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_03: He was.
- 1:13:59SPEAKER_02: And uh his son tweeted, um, I want one of those.
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_02: Whenever his dad tweeted a picture with the trophy.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_02: And I say, let's go ahead and do that.
- 1:14:08SPEAKER_02: I say let's do that, let's go for that this season.
- 1:14:10SPEAKER_02: What do you mean?
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_02: Like, like, like the guy that knows ball Shaeanj Raja says that we're winning the Big 12.
- 1:14:17SPEAKER_02: And I think that he's just the brightest mind in in college football.
- 1:14:20SPEAKER_02: He needs to come on the podcast.
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_03: Shehan rules.
- 1:14:23SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:14:24SPEAKER_03: That was that was definitely a piece that was overreactions to spring games.
- 1:14:30SPEAKER_02: That was full analysis.
- 1:14:32SPEAKER_03: For for sure, for sure.
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_03: We'll ask him about that if he ever comes on the pod.
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_03: Shehan, come on the pod.
- 1:14:37SPEAKER_03: She's um baseball to bring it down a little to kind of humble us.
- 1:14:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, let's let's end it on baseball.
- 1:14:46SPEAKER_02: Awesome.
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_03: What do you we're gonna end it on Song of the Week?
- 1:14:51SPEAKER_03: That's always a high note.
- 1:14:52SPEAKER_02: That's that's a big high note, especially this week.
- 1:14:54SPEAKER_03: Big high note.
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_03: So we're we have to mention baseball.
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_03: Yes, we lost the series at West Virginia.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_03: West Virginia is the number one team in the Big 12.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_03: Uh uh out of nowhere.
- 1:15:04SPEAKER_03: Everyone didn't uh out of nowhere, nobody expected this.
- 1:15:06SPEAKER_03: Good for them.
- 1:15:07SPEAKER_03: They have a great team, they have a really good crowd.
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_03: Um, this baseball team has been frustrating uh pretty much all year, yeah.
- 1:15:17SPEAKER_03: Um, because we have a certain expectation as Texas Tech fans of uh how our baseball team should perform, and uh it just has not been it's been very, very up and down this year.
- 1:15:30SPEAKER_02: Yes, it really has.
- 1:15:31SPEAKER_03: You've had your real highs, you've had your real lows with Texas Tech Baseball.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_03: And uh the one thing uh both me and Tristan are not baseball experts in the slightest.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_03: Like, I'm not gonna pretend like I know baseball, I don't.
- 1:15:46SPEAKER_03: Um but what I've seen is that our pitching needs help, it's not necessarily the talent, it's kind of the positions that we put our guys in.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_03: Um we don't come up big in the situations that we need to.
- 1:16:02SPEAKER_03: We leave a lot of runners on base.
- 1:16:04SPEAKER_03: It's uh really a frustrating season.
- 1:16:08SPEAKER_03: Um, and this is the first season without a big star, without a young runner, without you know any of these guys that have made the lead.
- 1:16:16SPEAKER_03: So um there it this is kind of a transition year, and we're still on the uh premise or on the line of making the NCAA tournament.
- 1:16:25SPEAKER_03: Um, this is just a it's just a frustrating season.
- 1:16:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, yeah.
- 1:16:29SPEAKER_02: I mean, you put it perfectly, it's been super up and down, and I really hate to break it to the crowd, but I tainted the season.
- 1:16:36SPEAKER_02: It was me.
- 1:16:37SPEAKER_02: What'd you show up?
- 1:16:38SPEAKER_02: I I showed up to it to the at UT game in the boss.
- 1:16:42SPEAKER_02: It's this is on me completely, dude.
- 1:16:45SPEAKER_02: And I I'm really sorry, y'all.
- 1:16:47SPEAKER_02: But no, but seriously, it's it's been a really stinky season, like whatever it's been down, but like there's been a lot of highs as well.
- 1:16:53SPEAKER_02: So it's it's been it's it's sometimes we look like we can come back from any deficit, like we did against uh like uh uh Sam Houston.
- 1:17:00SPEAKER_02: And then other times it's just like we cannot get out of our own way, and and it's just it's a like like like we just keep saying, it's just really frustrating.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_02: I hope we can kind of pull a rabbit out of the hat here at the end of the season and just and get that postseason bid because that is the expectation.
- 1:17:13SPEAKER_02: At least get to the postseason.
- 1:17:15SPEAKER_02: You don't have to go far every year, but please at least keep the season going past the uh the final um inning in the in the conference play.
- 1:17:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, there are other podcasts, there are other outlets that know much more about baseball than we do.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, um, but from what I've gathered from different outlets and different podcasts is that uh Texas Tech Baseball is probably going to make the postseason.
- 1:17:37SPEAKER_03: A lot is writing on this final series against Kansas at home.
- 1:17:43SPEAKER_03: Kansas is not a great baseball team.
- 1:17:45SPEAKER_03: We should win this series, but Texas Tech has underperformed in the times that we have wanted them to perform.
- 1:17:53SPEAKER_03: So hashtag relatable just monitor it.
- 1:18:00SPEAKER_03: We're fine.
- 1:18:02SPEAKER_03: I don't think there needs to be any major changes made.
- 1:18:04SPEAKER_03: I think it's just a transition year.
- 1:18:07SPEAKER_03: Um, no, what do you even mean?
- 1:18:09SPEAKER_02: What do you mean?
- 1:18:11SPEAKER_03: You got a younger team.
- 1:18:12SPEAKER_03: A lot of people are asking for the pitching coach to be fired.
- 1:18:16SPEAKER_03: A lot of people.
- 1:18:17SPEAKER_02: I just trust him.
- 1:18:18SPEAKER_02: I don't I would I would never question anything tadlock would ever do.
- 1:18:22SPEAKER_03: The pitching has been very bad, and that's not tadlock.
- 1:18:25SPEAKER_03: That's not tadlock.
- 1:18:27SPEAKER_03: That and then I don't think it's necessarily the pitchers, I think it's the coach.
- 1:18:31SPEAKER_03: No, you want him out.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_03: You want him out.
- 1:18:33SPEAKER_03: I don't want him out.
- 1:18:34SPEAKER_03: I don't want him out.
- 1:18:35SPEAKER_03: I don't want him out.
- 1:18:35SPEAKER_03: I didn't say that.
- 1:18:36SPEAKER_03: I just said it hasn't been a great year for our guy.
- 1:18:39SPEAKER_03: It wasn't a great year last year for our guy.
- 1:18:41SPEAKER_03: So, you know, we'll see.
- 1:18:44SPEAKER_03: Did you have anything else for this offseason episode?
- 1:18:49SPEAKER_02: No, I I don't I don't think so.
- 1:18:50SPEAKER_02: I it's kind of insulting that we say off-season episode.
- 1:18:54SPEAKER_03: It's an off-season episode.
- 1:18:57SPEAKER_03: Listen, I I respect everybody that loves this baseball team and watches every game.
- 1:19:02SPEAKER_03: You go for it.
- 1:19:03SPEAKER_03: I'm not a baseball guy.
- 1:19:05SPEAKER_03: Trist is not a baseball guy.
- 1:19:06SPEAKER_03: We didn't play baseball growing up.
- 1:19:08SPEAKER_03: We don't watch baseball.
- 1:19:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I played t-ball.
- 1:19:10SPEAKER_03: We watch chill out there, guy.
- 1:19:13SPEAKER_03: Um I watch Texas Tech baseball, but I don't watch any other baseball.
- 1:19:18SPEAKER_03: So it's, you know, it's not a sport that I am well versed in.
- 1:19:22SPEAKER_03: It's tough for me to put my words together on baseball.
- 1:19:27SPEAKER_02: Um, it's not the whiskey.
- 1:19:29SPEAKER_03: It's totally not the whiskey.
- 1:19:32unknown: All right.
- 1:19:33SPEAKER_03: Song of the week.
- 1:19:36SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 1:19:37SPEAKER_03: Of the week.
- 1:19:38SPEAKER_03: We we okay.
- 1:19:39SPEAKER_03: You explain.
- 1:19:39SPEAKER_02: No, yo, all right, yeah, I'll explain.
- 1:19:41SPEAKER_02: Uh, so uh Steven is now married.
- 1:19:43SPEAKER_02: I'm now married.
- 1:19:43SPEAKER_02: Both of us have been married in less than a year, so we're both newlyweds, and we decided to ask our new new brides uh to do these songs of the week.
- 1:19:51SPEAKER_02: Um, so my song of the week is gonna be a country superstar, a uh red-headed smoke show to this day.
- 1:19:59SPEAKER_02: Uh Reba McIntyre.
- 1:20:01SPEAKER_02: And it's gonna be I'm a survivor.
- 1:20:03SPEAKER_02: And the main reason why my wife likes this song so much is because it is the intro theme to the show Reba, which my wife loves.
- 1:20:11SPEAKER_02: So that is that is why.
- 1:20:12SPEAKER_02: And I'm gonna do I'm a survivor.
- 1:20:14SPEAKER_02: And how about we just go ahead and put that as like a connection to baseball because we're gonna survive this season and get to the postseason, all right?
- 1:20:23SPEAKER_04: With gentle hands and the heart of a fiber.
- 1:20:28SPEAKER_04: I'm a survivor.
- 1:20:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna tag Tadlock in that.
- 1:20:39SPEAKER_02: Bingo.
- 1:20:40SPEAKER_02: Bingo.
- 1:20:41SPEAKER_03: Bingo, you nailed it.
- 1:20:42SPEAKER_03: Um have you heard this song?
- 1:20:45SPEAKER_03: Uh Tim Tadlock, I'm sure, is very well versed in Reba.
- 1:20:48SPEAKER_02: I I yeah, absolutely.
- 1:20:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, um, this was a last second ask.
- 1:20:54SPEAKER_03: Um, we are having the wives do the song of the week, which is great.
- 1:20:58SPEAKER_03: Reba, I I'm not familiar with, I'm sure she's great.
- 1:21:02SPEAKER_03: That's a poor.
- 1:21:03SPEAKER_03: No, I'm sorry.
- 1:21:03SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry.
- 1:21:04SPEAKER_03: Uh I'm familiar with the TV show more than I am revisiting, which is very weird.
- 1:21:10SPEAKER_03: But um, all-time great TV show.
- 1:21:12SPEAKER_03: It's up there.
- 1:21:13SPEAKER_03: All-time great.
- 1:21:14SPEAKER_03: What King of the Hill, SpongeBob, Reba.
- 1:21:16SPEAKER_03: That's that's a good that's a good lineup.
- 1:21:17SPEAKER_03: That's a good lineup, yeah.
- 1:21:18SPEAKER_03: Probably, probably.
- 1:21:20SPEAKER_03: Um my wife's song of the week.
- 1:21:22SPEAKER_03: Um, I I don't know this song personally.
- 1:21:25SPEAKER_03: I don't listen to a lot of Zach Bryan.
- 1:21:26SPEAKER_03: I'm sure Zach Bryan's great.
- 1:21:28SPEAKER_03: I just haven't dipped my toes in that yet.
- 1:21:31SPEAKER_03: Um, her song of the week is Dawns by Zach Bryan, featuring Maggie Rogers.
- 1:21:37SPEAKER_03: This is something that she I asked her last minute.
- 1:21:40SPEAKER_03: I was like, You got a song of the week?
- 1:21:42SPEAKER_03: Let's go, let's do this.
- 1:21:43SPEAKER_03: Text it to me.
- 1:21:44SPEAKER_03: She texted it to me.
- 1:21:46SPEAKER_03: She has no, I don't I don't know her personal connection to it, but Zach Bryan is a uh a good songwriter, good performer from everything that I know.
- 1:21:56SPEAKER_03: Um, that was Dawn's Zach Bryan featuring Maggie Rogers.
- 1:22:01SPEAKER_04: And my time she weight shall be halfway to my mommy's fall.
- 1:22:09SPEAKER_04: It just dawn only out is as fleeting as the passing doll.
- 1:22:18SPEAKER_02: CMA male artist uh artist of the year, new artists of the year, and well deserved.
- 1:22:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's he's a song, he's a songwriting guru.
- 1:22:24SPEAKER_02: He's like the real deal in that sense.
- 1:22:26SPEAKER_03: I'm a little weirded out by his hair color.
- 1:22:28SPEAKER_03: It's not natural blonde, it's very blonde.
- 1:22:31SPEAKER_03: It's like it's like uh it's like rascal flats.
- 1:22:34SPEAKER_02: I don't think no, that's like a frosted tips.
- 1:22:36SPEAKER_02: Oh, stop it.
- 1:22:38SPEAKER_03: He he does not, that's not his natural hair color.
- 1:22:40SPEAKER_03: I did not I don't know much about Zach Bryan, so when I saw his picture, I was like, that no.
- 1:22:46SPEAKER_03: Guys can just be blonde, bro.
- 1:22:48SPEAKER_02: Like this is a toe head, you know.
- 1:22:50SPEAKER_03: The blonde goes away naturally.
- 1:22:51SPEAKER_03: When you're not not if it's like super, super blonde.
- 1:22:56SPEAKER_03: You know, the you have to personally ask your hairstylist to keep up with the blonde if you want to retain that same blonde that you had as a kid.
- 1:23:05SPEAKER_03: So he's lying.
- 1:23:06SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:23:07SPEAKER_03: I want to see you lie a little bit.
- 1:23:10SPEAKER_03: I want to see you go to your hairstylist and be like, give me the blonde I looked like when I was 14.
- 1:23:15SPEAKER_02: I I don't know how uh the the the the the the barber would just look at me like what are you talking about?
- 1:23:19SPEAKER_02: You know, I don't know what's what's he gonna do to my hair?
- 1:23:22SPEAKER_03: This isn't blonde, it's brown.
- 1:23:24SPEAKER_03: And he's like, No, I want to see I want to see your young blonde because that's what Zach Bryan has.
- 1:23:30SPEAKER_03: He has young blonde hair.
- 1:23:32SPEAKER_03: I I I just think guys can have really blonde hair.
- 1:23:34SPEAKER_03: No, they don't have blonde.
- 1:23:36SPEAKER_03: No, no, no.
- 1:23:36SPEAKER_03: You have to work to have that blonde hair.
- 1:23:39SPEAKER_03: You have to put in the work, you have to keep in the blonde.
- 1:23:42SPEAKER_02: Put in the work.
- 1:23:43SPEAKER_02: This is so dumb.
- 1:23:44SPEAKER_02: I'm ready for this to end.
- 1:23:47SPEAKER_02: Like, really?
- 1:23:48SPEAKER_02: We're arguing about a man's hair.
- 1:23:50SPEAKER_02: That's where we're at.
- 1:23:51SPEAKER_03: His hair is too blonde.
- 1:23:52SPEAKER_03: That's what I'll say.
- 1:23:54SPEAKER_03: That's what I'm gonna say.
- 1:23:55SPEAKER_03: That's the last thing I'll say.
- 1:23:57SPEAKER_03: Trash content.
- 1:23:59SPEAKER_03: If for some reason, if for some reason you like listening to this.
- 1:24:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the answer.
- 1:24:05SPEAKER_03: You can follow both me and Tristan on Twitter.
