- 0:59Speaker 2: State And good morning and welcome to a new day.
- 1:42Speaker 2: I just said it feels for some reason kind of
- 1:45Speaker 2: like a like a Monday, but it is officially Tuesday now,
- 1:51Speaker 2: the third of June, and welcome to a new month.
- 1:56Speaker 2: If I forgot to say that yesterday. Absolutely pleasure to
- 2:00Speaker 2: have you on board with us this morning. Thank you
- 2:02Speaker 2: so much for tuning in. Thanks to our supporting and
- 2:05Speaker 2: presenting sponsors. We're gonna have a great week. We have
- 2:08Speaker 2: a lot going on. What a ride yesterday literally with
- 2:12Speaker 2: Jeru General Transport. It was so much fun to be
- 2:15Speaker 2: there with Bill. One of the big things that we're
- 2:19Speaker 2: gonna be talking well, of course, we're going to take
- 2:21Speaker 2: a deep dive into peer Palooza this morning with Penny
- 2:26Speaker 2: Martin and Rain. Let's Rain parlt perlt in just a
- 2:33Speaker 2: little bit. We're gonna be telling you everything of what
- 2:37Speaker 2: to expect up at the Berry Auditorium Thursday and Friday.
- 2:41Speaker 2: But first let's talk about the golf tournament and the
- 2:45Speaker 2: Silent auction which we've been nibbling on here for the
- 2:49Speaker 2: last at least week or so with us. Emily McKenna
- 2:53Speaker 2: from Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, the Chief Advancement Officer.
- 2:58Speaker 2: I am so pleasure to have you on the air
- 3:01Speaker 2: with us this morning.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Good morning, Thank you, Jad, good morning. Thanks for having
- 3:05Speaker 3: me on.
- 3:06Speaker 2: What is happening with this golf tournament? Tell me about
- 3:10Speaker 2: the first let's talk about the golf tournament, and then
- 3:13Speaker 2: we're gonna we'll talk about the silent auction.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Yeah, thank you. So the golf tournament is in its
- 3:20Speaker 3: twenty ninth year. It's our Hospice Memorial Golf Tournament, and
- 3:26Speaker 3: the tournament was founded twenty nine years ago to remember
- 3:30Speaker 3: and recognize a Central Vermonter, Scott Freeman, who was cared
- 3:35Speaker 3: for by cv ajjh's hospice team. And it's kept going
- 3:41Speaker 3: year after year for twenty nine years and it's really
- 3:44Speaker 3: grown into a day long event at the country Club
- 3:49Speaker 3: of Barry and we're so lucky to have them as
- 3:52Speaker 3: our partner. And it's a eighteen hole scramble and we
- 3:57Speaker 3: have lots of fun games and now we have the
- 4:01Speaker 3: silent auction that is a really fun part of the tournament.
- 4:05Speaker 3: That lets people in the community who don't who don't
- 4:09Speaker 3: play golf, but who really want to support the tournament
- 4:13Speaker 3: or the hospice program. We have lots of people who
- 4:18Speaker 3: who want to support and who did in the auction
- 4:21Speaker 3: year after year. That's their thing and it's a way
- 4:25Speaker 3: of just supporting us and the tournament and our hospice program.
- 4:29Speaker 3: And it's it's just it's really evolved into this, this
- 4:33Speaker 3: fun event to raise awareness for hospice and for our
- 4:39Speaker 3: agency and for the care, the excellent care that we provide.
- 4:42Speaker 2: And look at this, she got about twenty incredible items
- 4:47Speaker 2: that are that are that are up for auction. This
- 4:50Speaker 2: is this is amazing.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I think the you know, we're we're
- 4:56Speaker 3: playing golf and we have these amazing item But I
- 5:01Speaker 3: think really for me and Sandy Ruth, our CEO, she
- 5:05Speaker 3: talks about this a lot, I think what at its core,
- 5:09Speaker 3: this event is also about thanking our incredible community because they,
- 5:17Speaker 3: you know, they really make they really make this event
- 5:20Speaker 3: what it is. So you know, we couldn't have this,
- 5:24Speaker 3: We couldn't have this auction without the the vendors, the
- 5:29Speaker 3: golf courses, the local businesses who contribute. We couldn't have
- 5:33Speaker 3: the event without the incredible sponsors and golfers who come
- 5:37Speaker 3: year after year and support it and sponsor it. So
- 5:40Speaker 3: it's really just it's like the event is a way
- 5:44Speaker 3: for us to thank the community for their support, for
- 5:46Speaker 3: their generosity. So yeah, I'm just We're so grateful.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I'm just having a glance here at some
- 5:54Speaker 2: of the some of the items. You got gift cards
- 5:56Speaker 2: to local restaurants like Black Back Pub and Sardoucis the
- 6:01Speaker 2: Alchemist Brewery, Snowfire Auto detailing.
- 6:06Speaker 3: And we have two of those yep. And I live
- 6:08Speaker 3: off a long dirt road, so I'm like, I'm tempted
- 6:11Speaker 3: to bet on that one because that will be like
- 6:13Speaker 3: a full a full car detail yep.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Wow. And and golf too. You got the mountain course
- 6:20Speaker 2: at Spruce Peak, which is amazing by the way, Uh
- 6:24Speaker 2: if you've never been there and what are you.
- 6:27Speaker 3: It's a beautiful course, incredible.
- 6:29Speaker 2: What are what are some of the other items we have.
- 6:33Speaker 3: We have a gift card at the local which is
- 6:36Speaker 3: in Middlesex. We have a one month past Green Mountain
- 6:39Speaker 3: Community Fitness. The Flynn Theater in Burlington was really generous.
- 6:44Speaker 3: They donated tickets to ain't too proud. It's it's a
- 6:48Speaker 3: show about the Temptations, which sounds really cool and totally unique.
- 6:53Speaker 3: One of our former board members, his son was actually
- 6:57Speaker 3: in a production at the Flynn and it was so
- 7:00Speaker 3: popular my daughter went to see it. So the Flynn
- 7:02Speaker 3: is just an amazing just an amazing resource that we
- 7:05Speaker 3: have in Vermont in our community. So I think that
- 7:08Speaker 3: is going to be really fun. Greenountin Community Fitness they
- 7:12Speaker 3: gave us a month pass to use their facility, and
- 7:18Speaker 3: we've got all of these golf courses that have really
- 7:20Speaker 3: generously donated a foursome with a cart, Woodstock country Club,
- 7:25Speaker 3: Burlington Country Club, the Links at lang Farm, Queechee, Newport.
- 7:30Speaker 3: So there are a lot of golfers that come year
- 7:33Speaker 3: after year to the event. So I think that there
- 7:36Speaker 3: are great deals on the golf courses around the state.
- 7:40Speaker 3: So I think that's a big draw for a lot
- 7:41Speaker 3: of people.
- 7:42Speaker 2: They've done this for a long long time, and as
- 7:46Speaker 2: you say, this is year number twenty nine, amazing the sponsors.
- 7:50Speaker 2: You've got almost sixty sponsors and among them Vermont Laser Wash,
- 7:55Speaker 2: Cody Chevrolet. They're bringing a Chevy trail Blazer, a brand
- 8:00Speaker 2: new trail Plazer.
- 8:03Speaker 4: Tournament.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's a hole in one a twenty twenty
- 8:08Speaker 3: five Chevy trail Blazer. Bob Cody has been a really
- 8:11Speaker 3: generous supporter of c v HJH for many years, and
- 8:15Speaker 3: his dealership, Cody Chevrolet, will bring They've been our whole
- 8:19Speaker 3: hole in one sponsor of this tournament for many years.
- 8:22Speaker 3: So he's going to drive a twenty twenty five Chevy
- 8:24Speaker 3: trail Blazer to the course on whole seven. And if
- 8:29Speaker 3: someone you know is a really great golfer and they
- 8:32Speaker 3: get a hole in one, we will have someone posted
- 8:35Speaker 3: there watching to see if someone can do it, they
- 8:38Speaker 3: can drive home in that Chevy trail bra to Chevy
- 8:41Speaker 3: trail Blazer. So it's it's like just a nice, fun,
- 8:44Speaker 3: fun component of the scramble. And we've done it every year,
- 8:50Speaker 3: and I was asking, I know, I actually don't know
- 8:53Speaker 3: if if anyone has ever it's a very common, you know,
- 8:56Speaker 3: part of these tournaments. But it's a great way for
- 8:58Speaker 3: us to partner with Cody. Yes, and you know, to
- 9:02Speaker 3: drum up some just drum up some fun.
- 9:04Speaker 2: So listen, it is important to what get opened. Just
- 9:09Speaker 2: quickly open an account for through the bidding owl auction
- 9:14Speaker 2: website which is free to do. Uh, you should you
- 9:18Speaker 2: should get on that and do that so that you
- 9:20Speaker 2: can get in on some of these items to bid for.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Yes, it's it's it's a very quick process. You just
- 9:27Speaker 3: have to enter your email to register and then you
- 9:30Speaker 3: just have to verify the email address through your you'll
- 9:33Speaker 3: just get an email from Bidding Owl. It's quick, it's free,
- 9:35Speaker 3: it's simple, and really the goal is that you will
- 9:38Speaker 3: get some good deals on these amazing auction items, which
- 9:41Speaker 3: again have been generously donated. And we are so grateful
- 9:45Speaker 3: to all of the local businesses who have supported us.
- 9:48Speaker 3: I mean, you know, this has been a very crazy,
- 9:51Speaker 3: you know, six months, and I know that things have
- 9:53Speaker 3: been up and down, up and down, and we're so
- 9:56Speaker 3: generous to all of the businesses. All of this Monsors
- 9:59Speaker 3: fifty five is a lot for this tournament. And I
- 10:02Speaker 3: just I do want to mention our tournament sponsor, Maple
- 10:04Speaker 3: Capital Management. They have come in year after year as
- 10:08Speaker 3: the big tournament sponsor for Mount Laser Wash, as our
- 10:11Speaker 3: golf cart golf cart sponsor Cody Chevrolet, as you said,
- 10:15Speaker 3: as our home in one and Jeremy Drown from Northfield
- 10:19Speaker 3: has been again a consistent sponsor as our Hospice Memorial
- 10:23Speaker 3: sponsor and NOYL Johnson Group. So it really is a
- 10:26Speaker 3: community event from start to finish, and we're just so
- 10:30Speaker 3: grateful for everyone for coming. And now we just want
- 10:33Speaker 3: everyone to cross their fingers knock on wood for I
- 10:37Speaker 3: don't need sun, but I just don't want rain or thunder,
- 10:39Speaker 3: so we're just we're just helping for I mean, this
- 10:42Speaker 3: has just been an incredibly rainy May. I was just
- 10:44Speaker 3: reading a headline, so we just want some just want
- 10:48Speaker 3: some good weather.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Now, I think you'll get it. We're in a shift.
- 10:52Speaker 2: We're in a shift right now that we're in two.
- 10:54Speaker 2: I tell you I've got the the tournament page link
- 11:00Speaker 2: in the comments here. But I'm so excited about this.
- 11:03Speaker 2: It's listen. We're going to be watching things very carefully Friday,
- 11:08Speaker 2: and we hope the best for everything so much.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I appreciate it.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Thanks, Emily, have a super rest of your day. It's
- 11:16Speaker 2: going to be fantastic. Keep watch of our page to
- 11:21Speaker 2: see more on this. Also keep watch of aired out
- 11:26Speaker 2: on everything that is happening this Thursday and Friday at
- 11:30Speaker 2: the Barry Auditorium. Man oh Man is it going to
- 11:34Speaker 2: be a fantastic event. Up there, we're talking about peer Paluza.
- 11:39Speaker 2: You've heard me talking about this. Everyone is invited, do
- 11:43Speaker 2: not miss it. It is going to be a one
- 11:46Speaker 2: of a kind experience really for everyone but the Burry Auditorium,
- 11:53Speaker 2: not just one day but two with powerful, powerful keynote
- 11:58Speaker 2: speakers and so much to and be part of an
- 12:01Speaker 2: experience with me is Rain Perrault and Penny Martin from
- 12:06Speaker 2: peer PALUSA and from Washington County Mental Health and from
- 12:10Speaker 2: Sunrise and what am I missing? Ladies that covers it.
- 12:16Speaker 2: The two of you have done so much and man,
- 12:20Speaker 2: I'm hearing about it from Heather that you guys have
- 12:25Speaker 2: just created this, this thing which is just going to
- 12:30Speaker 2: be so great for our community. Tell us about the
- 12:33Speaker 2: inception of peer POLUSA. Of course we're going to talk
- 12:37Speaker 2: about the schedule, what to expect, But whose idea was
- 12:40Speaker 2: all of this?
- 12:44Speaker 5: So we received the grant. The agency received a big
- 12:47Speaker 5: grant and part of the grant was training and developing
- 12:52Speaker 5: peer programming and the State of Vermont is also starting certification.
- 12:59Speaker 5: It's one of the last dates in the country. Even
- 13:01Speaker 5: though we have a long history of work done by
- 13:04Speaker 5: people who lived experience. So July first, there'll be certification
- 13:09Speaker 5: and many designated agencies have been developing their own peer
- 13:17Speaker 5: programming as well as there's peer agencies throughout the state
- 13:21Speaker 5: as well, and so I thought, you know, use this grant.
- 13:26Speaker 5: So it's one time fund. So hopefully we can carry
- 13:29Speaker 5: it on and see if we can create a conference
- 13:32Speaker 5: where everybody from the state can start sharing their ideas,
- 13:37Speaker 5: teach each other, celebrate all the work that's being done
- 13:40Speaker 5: by you know, this amazing group of people, and you know,
- 13:45Speaker 5: hopefully get it out there and maybe hopefully we can
- 13:48Speaker 5: expand and keep this going for many years.
- 13:52Speaker 2: What are we What is the community going to experience
- 13:57Speaker 2: when they walk through the doors beginning Thursday morning up
- 14:03Speaker 2: at the Berry Auditorium.
- 14:05Speaker 5: Well as anyone who walks into Sunrise knows, as soon
- 14:10Speaker 5: as you walk through the doors, you're going to get
- 14:12Speaker 5: greeted because everybody, everybody should have someone say hello to them.
- 14:17Speaker 5: So you'll get greeted, we'll check in, get you your
- 14:21Speaker 5: very own swag bag. There is a limited supply, but yes,
- 14:28Speaker 5: we do.
- 14:28Speaker 4: Have a swag bag.
- 14:30Speaker 5: And basically there's going to be exhibit tables that are
- 14:35Speaker 5: open from different agencies and organizations also from within Washington
- 14:42Speaker 5: County and other agencies, and you'll be able to hear
- 14:50Speaker 5: speakers and get some education about what it means to
- 14:54Speaker 5: be peered, learn about some of the programs, how to
- 14:57Speaker 5: care for yourself and things like that.
- 15:03Speaker 2: I'm so interested in this. I'll be there both Thursday
- 15:06Speaker 2: and Friday. I'll be streaming live. But rain tell us
- 15:11Speaker 2: a little bit about who you are, what you do.
- 15:15Speaker 4: So I to start, I am a peer and I
- 15:24Speaker 4: work at Sunrise as a peer support provider. So what
- 15:26Speaker 4: that means is I have lived experienced myself, and studies
- 15:31Speaker 4: have shown that it is easier for someone to come
- 15:34Speaker 4: into Sunrise and work with somebody that knows where they
- 15:40Speaker 4: are coming from, knows where they have been, because I've
- 15:42Speaker 4: been there too. So if they were to come into
- 15:45Speaker 4: Sunrise and meet with a therapist that has been to
- 15:49Speaker 4: college and is speaking to them in a language that
- 15:52Speaker 4: isn't person centered, but is more therapeutic in saying things
- 15:57Speaker 4: like I hear you, so many of our people that
- 16:02Speaker 4: come in have a lot of experience with that already
- 16:05Speaker 4: and have been through the system enough to know that
- 16:09Speaker 4: it doesn't fly, and it's it's just not going that way.
- 16:14Speaker 4: But when they come into Sunrise, as Penny says, you're
- 16:16Speaker 4: greeted a lot of the times because we know our people.
- 16:20Speaker 4: Not only are you greeted, but you're greeted by name.
- 16:23Speaker 4: So if you were to come in, we would say, hi, JD,
- 16:25Speaker 4: how's it going, Get yourself a cup of coffee, Come
- 16:28Speaker 4: on over come work with us on this. If you
- 16:31Speaker 4: were to get food shelf, we would know you well enough.
- 16:35Speaker 4: We know what kind of foods you like, so we
- 16:37Speaker 4: would say, oh, JD, we have this today, would you
- 16:40Speaker 4: like some of that? So we have that one on
- 16:43Speaker 4: one personal sort of rapport that we know not only
- 16:49Speaker 4: who you are clinically, but we know who you are
- 16:52Speaker 4: as a human being, and a lot of the times
- 16:55Speaker 4: we know you better than your families do.
- 16:58Speaker 2: How many regulars are coming to Sunrise on a given.
- 17:05Speaker 5: Week, it depends in terms of individuals that are consistently there,
- 17:14Speaker 5: probably twenty twenty five. We also have individuals from the
- 17:19Speaker 5: community that aren't part of Washington County Mental Health who
- 17:22Speaker 5: are unhoused to come in and receive some support and
- 17:25Speaker 5: services from us, as.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Well support services and amazing food. You guys really know
- 17:33Speaker 2: what you're doing over there. Tell me about the chefs
- 17:37Speaker 2: who's doing the cooking over there, because.
- 17:39Speaker 5: We all do.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Amazing food.
- 17:43Speaker 4: A lot of it is all homemade. We have a
- 17:46Speaker 4: couple of people that have worked in restaurants. I myself,
- 17:49Speaker 4: I grew up at restaurants. My dad was a chef
- 17:52Speaker 4: for most of my life, so instead of having a babysitter,
- 17:55Speaker 4: I just sat in the kitchen while he cooked. One
- 17:59Speaker 4: of our chefs has been cooking there since the dawn
- 18:02Speaker 4: of time.
- 18:03Speaker 5: I think, Yeah, you know, moms, a couple of moms,
- 18:09Speaker 5: and you know, just other people who enjoy food and
- 18:13Speaker 5: enjoy sharing, and food is often a love language, and
- 18:17Speaker 5: so you know why not share it?
- 18:20Speaker 2: Certainly is with me, I'll tell you that.
- 18:23Speaker 4: And we share recipes too, So if there's something there
- 18:26Speaker 4: that you've eaten, we fully like to share the recipe
- 18:30Speaker 4: so you can take that recipe home, you can get
- 18:33Speaker 4: things from the food shelf so that you can make
- 18:34Speaker 4: it that day if you really.
- 18:37Speaker 2: It's Penny. It's been a while since I was over
- 18:41Speaker 2: there streaming Live with Heather. I got to get back
- 18:44Speaker 2: over and do that. One of that time that I
- 18:48Speaker 2: was there, I was I remember being distracted by the spouse.
- 18:51Speaker 2: I mean it was I don't know what. I think
- 18:54Speaker 2: it was chocolate chip cookies. I don't know, but it
- 18:56Speaker 2: was amazing.
- 18:58Speaker 5: Snecker doodles also fairly often, Kathy perry Is does a
- 19:04Speaker 5: lot of our baking, and so when we do some
- 19:06Speaker 5: fundraisers like well, we celebrate Pie Day by selling whole
- 19:11Speaker 5: pies and slices of pies. Kathy makes homemade crust and
- 19:15Speaker 5: so we're lucky with that.
- 19:18Speaker 4: I saw some rhubarb this morning.
- 19:20Speaker 5: Yeah, really, there might be some strawberry rumor pie come
- 19:24Speaker 5: into Sunrise.
- 19:25Speaker 2: That's my number one most favorite pie. Right There will
- 19:28Speaker 2: there be any of this at Pere Palooza.
- 19:31Speaker 5: There will be. We are bringing recipe cards and stuff,
- 19:35Speaker 5: but probably not the pie.
- 19:37Speaker 4: We do have. It's going to be catered by a
- 19:41Speaker 4: local family owned business.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Yes, our new sponsor as of this week, and I
- 19:52Speaker 2: am so thrilled about it.
- 19:54Speaker 5: Yeah, us too. They're amazing, incredible.
- 19:57Speaker 2: They're doing grab and go meals up at Hill Street Market,
- 20:01Speaker 2: Harrington's and Green Mountain Community Fitness. Fantastic meals. I'll be
- 20:10Speaker 2: probably grabbing one of those on Wednesday or Thursday this week.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Perfect for for for busy people who are on the go.
- 20:19Speaker 2: I got to catch a softball game and there's really
- 20:21Speaker 2: no time for dinner. So there it is right there exactly. Yeah.
- 20:25Speaker 2: So they're going to be doing the food huh.
- 20:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Do we know what's on the menu yet?
- 20:30Speaker 5: Caesar, salad, bar and sandwiches. I'm not sure which days
- 20:36Speaker 5: which I trust them to do it. It was really
- 20:39Speaker 5: important that we had a local organization. Do you know
- 20:44Speaker 5: the food for us?
- 20:45Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 20:46Speaker 5: With Jeff Appel did our t shirts and so we
- 20:51Speaker 5: you know, we're community, so try to support the community.
- 20:54Speaker 4: And the design was done in collaboration with peers.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Ye.
- 20:58Speaker 5: So it's not just staff working on peer Palooza. We
- 21:03Speaker 5: have the guests of Sunrise have been helping out and
- 21:06Speaker 5: we'll be running a couple tables.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Wow. I absolutely cannot wait to be there. I'll be
- 21:13Speaker 2: streaming live on Thursday and Friday. Nine o'clock. Thursday morning
- 21:18Speaker 2: is when the door is open. Yes, poster presentations, art displays,
- 21:24Speaker 2: an exhibit, hall, ted style talks. Can you tell us
- 21:29Speaker 2: who some of the work the workshops are going to
- 21:34Speaker 2: be the speakers?
- 21:35Speaker 5: Yeah, so we're lucky in that Pathways Slash Peer Workforce
- 21:41Speaker 5: Development Initiative will be there on both Thursday and Friday
- 21:45Speaker 5: doing presentations the Copeland Center, So Mary Allen Copeland very
- 21:52Speaker 5: much grassroots organization that started in southern Vermont, where the
- 21:56Speaker 5: whole mindset is the individual knows themselves best. We'll be
- 22:01Speaker 5: there also on Thursday doing some presentations. We have different
- 22:11Speaker 5: let's see, we have presentations by h Tara Miller, who
- 22:17Speaker 5: is going to talk about working at DMH. We have
- 22:21Speaker 5: some of our internal programs are going to be talked about,
- 22:26Speaker 5: and of course Will Eberley is our keynote speaker.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Will's amazing.
- 22:30Speaker 5: Yes, he's got a lot of energy.
- 22:33Speaker 4: He's got a very intelligent man.
- 22:35Speaker 5: Yeah, and he is a good way to kick off
- 22:38Speaker 5: the whole the whole thing.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm hoping that I'll be able to and if
- 22:42Speaker 2: Will is listening this morning, I'm hoping that I'll be
- 22:44Speaker 2: able to get a microphone in his face. I'm sure
- 22:48Speaker 2: on Thursday would be would be great. Do we know
- 22:52Speaker 2: when he's going to be keynoting you have the.
- 22:55Speaker 5: Schedule right over there. I think he's at like tennis.
- 22:59Speaker 2: Yep.
- 23:00Speaker 5: Beth will be doing the welcome our CEO and then
- 23:07Speaker 5: well we'll be on and.
- 23:08Speaker 2: That's incredible too. Yes, yeah, so we'll Joy is resistance
- 23:17Speaker 2: that's at nine thirty. Yes, so this is uh and
- 23:21Speaker 2: I've got to get this this whole schedule post. I
- 23:24Speaker 2: think it already is on Facebook though, but we're going
- 23:27Speaker 2: to make it. We're going to make sure is this
- 23:29Speaker 2: the updated one.
- 23:30Speaker 5: There's got a one more correction to be made and then.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Yes, okay and Christen Chandler, Yes, tell me about that
- 23:40Speaker 2: at one o'clock in the afternoon.
- 23:42Speaker 5: So Team two is an amazing training program that is
- 23:48Speaker 5: designed for first responders to kind of learn how to
- 23:54Speaker 5: better manage situations where maybe someone is struggling with symptoms
- 24:03Speaker 5: for substance use.
- 24:04Speaker 4: And so.
- 24:06Speaker 5: Kristen along with some statewide police officers screeners, they do
- 24:14Speaker 5: the training throughout the state. It's actually a mandated trainer
- 24:18Speaker 5: for training for first responders. I've done the training. It's
- 24:24Speaker 5: really good and it's a good way for people to
- 24:29Speaker 5: kind of understand each other.
- 24:34Speaker 2: The Center for Substance Use Services is also going to
- 24:40Speaker 2: be there, formerly known as Treatment Associates, and I'm going
- 24:43Speaker 2: to be chatting with Amber and hopefully getting her on
- 24:47Speaker 2: the air as well. There is you guys are unpacking
- 24:51Speaker 2: a ton of stuff under one roof. No wonder why
- 24:57Speaker 2: it's two days. I'm not say that's surprised. Who has
- 25:05Speaker 2: helped create this whole thing and get this whole thing
- 25:10Speaker 2: designed and mapped out and planned. And this is a
- 25:13Speaker 2: huge undertaking.
- 25:15Speaker 5: So Washington County has a Peer Advisory Committee that was
- 25:20Speaker 5: started about a year ago or longer two years. And
- 25:26Speaker 5: you know, one of the premises of peer work is
- 25:28Speaker 5: nothing about us without us, and so the pere Advisory
- 25:31Speaker 5: Committee creates policies procedures to get approved of through the
- 25:36Speaker 5: board in HR about you know, basically work ethics and
- 25:40Speaker 5: things like that, and also figuring out the trainings that
- 25:43Speaker 5: peers should have and that might be helpful. So the
- 25:47Speaker 5: Peer Advisory Committee has been helping staff of Sunrise Wellness Center.
- 25:53Speaker 5: I ask them to do so much and they are
- 25:57Speaker 5: always ready willing to step up, and I'm waiting for
- 26:00Speaker 5: them to lock me out of the building at some point.
- 26:03Speaker 5: And the guests who come to Sunrise, So it's really
- 26:06Speaker 5: important for us to help make sure people are involved
- 26:10Speaker 5: in the community because they're part of the community. And
- 26:14Speaker 5: so there will be actual clients, people who utilize the services,
- 26:20Speaker 5: and people who provide the services will be there. Under
- 26:23Speaker 5: the one roof working.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Together Katie Wilson and Jane Winterling are going to be
- 26:29Speaker 2: doing a presentation at four o'clock, which is seems like
- 26:35Speaker 2: it's really.
- 26:37Speaker 5: One not to miss the self care.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Yeah, it's called understanding Self Compassion and self Esteem, the
- 26:45Speaker 2: foundations of wellness. Who doesn't need to hear this?
- 26:51Speaker 5: Right? Who doesn't.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Do not miss it? And again, what's the cost to
- 26:59Speaker 2: get into all of the us free bingo? So don't
- 27:04Speaker 2: pass this up if you can. If you're you're busy,
- 27:08Speaker 2: you're working, try to take a break, skip out and
- 27:15Speaker 2: get through the doors of the Barry Auditorium Thursday and Friday,
- 27:19Speaker 2: both days, starting at nine am, going all the way
- 27:23Speaker 2: to five o'clock. Yep, that's incredible. So if you gotta,
- 27:27Speaker 2: if you're anywhere near Barry my pilure, you gotta. You
- 27:32Speaker 2: got a lunch break, skip over to the auditorium running
- 27:36Speaker 2: there and and catch something if you can. Team two
- 27:41Speaker 2: again starts at one o'clock. Four o'clock is under Understanding
- 27:45Speaker 2: Self Compassion and Self Esteem. Is this the same schedule
- 27:50Speaker 2: for both days?
- 27:51Speaker 4: No?
- 27:52Speaker 5: If you turn it over, yeah, you'll see that we
- 27:55Speaker 5: have On the second day, we'll have poster presentation which
- 28:00Speaker 5: are just kind of fifteen twenty minute blurbs about different programs,
- 28:04Speaker 5: got it, and also Ted style talks, which are again
- 28:09Speaker 5: quick fifteen minutes or so different describing different programs. So
- 28:15Speaker 5: the Downstreet you know, Downstreet Housing, which is an amazing program,
- 28:21Speaker 5: works with Washington County in a couple different programs. We're
- 28:24Speaker 5: going to talk about the Tiny House Project. There is
- 28:30Speaker 5: going to be a description of Maple House, which is
- 28:33Speaker 5: a peer run crisis bed and the only peer run
- 28:36Speaker 5: crisis bed in the state of Vermont is remained open
- 28:39Speaker 5: during COVID. Really yeah, yeah, we were serving guests. They
- 28:47Speaker 5: again a group of people that are absolutely amazing that
- 28:50Speaker 5: most people didn't realize even existed, that that program existed,
- 28:54Speaker 5: and yet they remained open during COVID when so many
- 28:57Speaker 5: other things did not. And Tara Miller Tarah Miller from DMH.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Yeah, so first self identified person at TMH. It's going
- 29:08Speaker 2: to be and I really want to hear the Tiny
- 29:13Speaker 2: House Project Ted talk from Downstreet because there's a lot
- 29:21Speaker 2: of interest in that has been even before the housing crisis,
- 29:28Speaker 2: the tiny holmes and I have a friend who lives
- 29:32Speaker 2: in one and loves it and is laughing at the
- 29:36Speaker 2: rest of us for with our eating bills and whatever.
- 29:40Speaker 2: But anyway, I'm sure he'll be there as well. This
- 29:44Speaker 2: is really really really cool the history and social change.
- 29:51Speaker 2: Intention Intentional of Peer support.
- 29:55Speaker 5: What is that?
- 29:56Speaker 2: That's at one o'clock.
- 29:57Speaker 5: Intentional Peer Support IPS is a program through Pathways. Well
- 30:03Speaker 5: Pathways actually has it, but it's a peer based program
- 30:08Speaker 5: and it's it's again very grassroots, and it's based on
- 30:17Speaker 5: mutuality with peers meeting people where they're at and truly
- 30:24Speaker 5: having the conversations that help support each other because it's
- 30:30Speaker 5: never a one way street, it's always a two way street.
- 30:34Speaker 5: And so we're lucky in that Chris Hansen is going
- 30:36Speaker 5: to be there along with Amy dettwor Pathways I believe
- 30:43Speaker 5: or IPS I believe started in New Hampshire, so another
- 30:47Speaker 5: New England based program that's evidence based. Both the Copeland
- 30:52Speaker 5: Center and Pathways are known internationally and have a lot
- 30:57Speaker 5: of international programming and education. So we're really lucky to
- 31:02Speaker 5: have them join us.
- 31:03Speaker 2: Yeah, wouldn't it be amazing if we had things like
- 31:08Speaker 2: this in place thirty forty years ago?
- 31:12Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 31:13Speaker 2: Yeah, at two thirty the poster presentations, what's what is that?
- 31:20Speaker 5: So basically it's literally there'll be a visual off and
- 31:24Speaker 5: on a poster board, could be on a screen as well,
- 31:28Speaker 5: and it's going to describe different programs. So again they're brief,
- 31:32Speaker 5: they're not very long, fifteen to twenty minutes. So we've
- 31:36Speaker 5: got poster presentations on Maple House. You got the Access
- 31:43Speaker 5: Advisory Board access Hub, so the Access Hub, which is
- 31:47Speaker 5: an amazing program open to anybody in Washington County. Sure
- 31:52Speaker 5: is that over the age of eighteen. They're going to
- 31:55Speaker 5: be doing post presentation. They're also going to have a
- 31:58Speaker 5: table set up in the exhibit hall. They're located at
- 32:01Speaker 5: the thirty four Berry Street in the front part of
- 32:04Speaker 5: where Sunrise is located in Montpellier. Anybody who is struggling
- 32:12Speaker 5: and just need some support, the Access Hub is there
- 32:15Speaker 5: and the people who greet you when you walk through
- 32:19Speaker 5: the door are the peers, so it's really that'll be exciting.
- 32:24Speaker 5: Interlude will also be there, which is another similar program
- 32:30Speaker 5: that is out of SEASAC the Counseling Service Services of
- 32:34Speaker 5: Addison County, and they will be helping. We'll have a
- 32:40Speaker 5: small room downstairs at Peer Paluza where if people are
- 32:43Speaker 5: starting to get a little over stimulated, there's going to
- 32:46Speaker 5: be a quiet section, but there'll also be a smaller
- 32:48Speaker 5: room where people can kind of take a break from
- 32:54Speaker 5: you know.
- 32:54Speaker 4: Sure, And because we are mental health based, I think
- 32:58Speaker 4: we are one of the only companies that had to
- 33:01Speaker 4: have a conversation about is the chewing from the food
- 33:05Speaker 4: going to affect the people in the quiet space. I
- 33:08Speaker 4: don't think anyone else has had to plan around that.
- 33:12Speaker 5: Popsicides ofthing.
- 33:15Speaker 2: Back to the UH, to the access Hub, and I'm
- 33:21Speaker 2: hoping to get somebody from the Access Hub on the
- 33:25Speaker 2: air with me. That would be amazing, remarkable. And they're
- 33:30Speaker 2: thirty four Barry Street, just down the road from you guys,
- 33:33Speaker 2: just down the in the same build, the same building
- 33:36Speaker 2: right there on Barry Street in Montpelier. Amazing that they're
- 33:43Speaker 2: open from early morning until seven o'clock seven to seven,
- 33:47Speaker 2: right twelve hours, and then on Fridays, I think it's.
- 33:52Speaker 5: What like eight to four or something like that, seven
- 33:55Speaker 5: to four.
- 33:58Speaker 2: This is a no apoint ointment needed, walk in, chat
- 34:02Speaker 2: with someone, get some advice, get some direction. Got to
- 34:08Speaker 2: be eighteen yes to to UH to take advantage of
- 34:12Speaker 2: the services. But it could be peer consoling, it could
- 34:15Speaker 2: be mental health care, nursing care, and case management, management
- 34:20Speaker 2: referrals food shelf, foodshelf, no matter what it is, go in,
- 34:26Speaker 2: no appointment needed, chat with someone and at least get
- 34:31Speaker 2: some direction of which road to get on.
- 34:33Speaker 4: Correct.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Yeah, that's uh, that's gotta be uh that that's a
- 34:39Speaker 2: job to be able to know. We got a lot
- 34:44Speaker 2: of roads in front of us, which direction might point
- 34:47Speaker 2: in this this individual and not only just give them
- 34:50Speaker 2: a nudge in that direction, but also following through and
- 34:53Speaker 2: making sure that they're okay.
- 34:55Speaker 4: And they also do mobile outreach as well.
- 34:58Speaker 2: Yeah, there's aren't we so lucky that we have services
- 35:04Speaker 2: like this and Vermont. I wish they were better utilized.
- 35:10Speaker 5: Yes, better utilized, better funded.
- 35:12Speaker 4: You know, at least they should have capes like superheroans.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Yeah, oh they are. This is really going to be
- 35:23Speaker 2: something amazing. I look forward so much to this event
- 35:29Speaker 2: Peer Palooza year number one. And you've already got how
- 35:34Speaker 2: many vendors, how many? How many tables ready to go?
- 35:38Speaker 5: About twenty different exhibit tables and than a full schedule
- 35:44Speaker 5: of O planning.
- 35:46Speaker 2: And what about folks that have registered? How many?
- 35:50Speaker 5: About seventy?
- 35:51Speaker 2: Okay, all right, let's get some more easy to do,
- 35:57Speaker 2: free to do. Get the link post it up for you.
- 36:02Speaker 2: But it's what is an easy point to go to
- 36:07Speaker 2: for So.
- 36:08Speaker 5: There is a QR code and you registered through the
- 36:13Speaker 5: QR code. If you're not able to utilize that, you
- 36:17Speaker 5: can email Sunrise at w c MH dot org and
- 36:26Speaker 5: we can register you for that as well. We just
- 36:29Speaker 5: need to know your name, if you work for an agency,
- 36:33Speaker 5: what that is your preferred pronouns.
- 36:37Speaker 2: I just dropped the link right in the conference here,
- 36:40Speaker 2: So don't wait on this. I mean today's Tuesday. Don't wait.
- 36:48Speaker 2: Get registered today tomorrow as soon as you can and
- 36:54Speaker 2: be there. Are we looking for any donations? Are we
- 36:59Speaker 2: looking for anymore vendors? What are we in need of
- 37:02Speaker 2: right now?
- 37:07Speaker 5: To some extent, we don't know what we'll need. We've
- 37:09Speaker 5: never done this before. But yeah, I mean, if anybody
- 37:14Speaker 5: wanted to offer us things or say hey, can we
- 37:19Speaker 5: do a table, we'll figure it out.
- 37:22Speaker 2: Okay again. This is at the Bury Auditorium Thursday and
- 37:27Speaker 2: Friday from nine to five both days, keynote speakers, great
- 37:37Speaker 2: food from the Carno's a one of a kind, dynamic
- 37:42Speaker 2: event that you guys have been working on this for
- 37:46Speaker 2: a long time and the first one hundred and fifty
- 37:51Speaker 2: or so through the door, get a swag pack. Correct, Wow,
- 37:57Speaker 2: inspiring stories, great connections and insights. You're going to even
- 38:05Speaker 2: if you're there for an hour, you're gonna leave taken
- 38:10Speaker 2: away something with you absolutely that you'll be able to
- 38:14Speaker 2: use in your life, or at least something that will
- 38:19Speaker 2: fire a neuron and say, I remember that from peer Palusa.
- 38:24Speaker 2: Incredible artwork. Again, don't miss your chance to be part
- 38:30Speaker 2: of this. Get on w cmhs dot org if you
- 38:35Speaker 2: want to learn more about it, and don't pass this up.

- 38:45Speaker 2: Anything else that you can think that you want to
- 38:50Speaker 2: you want to convey over the air as we get
- 38:55Speaker 2: ready for Thursday, which is like.
- 38:58Speaker 4: One thing I just wanted to point is, this is
- 39:01Speaker 4: not nineteen fifty anymore. When you come in to view
- 39:05Speaker 4: everything that the peers have done, I don't want people
- 39:09Speaker 4: to expect birdhouses made out of popsicle sticks. Prepare to
- 39:15Speaker 4: be amazed. Wow, just prepare for it. We have some
- 39:20Speaker 4: really incredibly talented people and just be ready for that.
- 39:27Speaker 2: Will any of these art pieces be available for sale?
- 39:33Speaker 5: Possibly?
- 39:34Speaker 4: Possibly?
- 39:35Speaker 2: Okay, everything is for sale for the right donation.
- 39:42Speaker 4: Absolutely absolutely.
- 39:46Speaker 2: Kudos to both of you, and there's so many people
- 39:51Speaker 2: that I look forward to having on with me on
- 39:54Speaker 2: Thursday and or Friday. Amber from the Center for subsid
- 40:00Speaker 2: Use and Services will every Heather Slayton, of course, each
- 40:04Speaker 2: of you. But it is going to be a remarkable
- 40:08Speaker 2: experience both days and I can't wait for it. Thank
- 40:12Speaker 2: you so much for not only coming in here today,
- 40:16Speaker 2: but all of your hard work and dedication in putting
- 40:20Speaker 2: this together and making making this event successful before it's
- 40:25Speaker 2: even started, we already know it's going to be, but
- 40:27Speaker 2: also for what you both do every single day, what
- 40:31Speaker 2: you bring over to Barry Street, thirty four Barry Street,
- 40:35Speaker 2: and for a.
- 40:36Speaker 5: Huge team event. We couldn't do it without everybody there
- 40:39Speaker 5: at Sunrise. Even the guests that come in to participate
- 40:44Speaker 5: in the program are willing to help. So without Sunrise
- 40:48Speaker 5: Wellness Center, this wouldn't be happening. Without the staff and
- 40:51Speaker 5: without the guests that come in.
- 40:53Speaker 2: Wow, I'd like to hop over to Sunrise one of
- 40:58Speaker 2: these one of these mornings.
- 40:59Speaker 4: We always well, you have to meet the chickens.
- 41:01Speaker 2: I would love to meet the chickens. How many do
- 41:04Speaker 2: we have?
- 41:05Speaker 4: Five? And they have submitted an art piece as well.
- 41:10Speaker 2: What time did the doors open at sunrise on a
- 41:13Speaker 2: given weekday morning? Eight thirty? Okay? Is there always breakfast
- 41:18Speaker 2: that's served?
- 41:19Speaker 5: No, but if somebody's hungry and hasn't had a meal, yeah,
- 41:23Speaker 5: we'll figure something out.
- 41:24Speaker 2: That's so cool. Thank you both so much. I look
- 41:28Speaker 2: forward to seeing you on Thursday and Friday. It's going
- 41:31Speaker 2: to be incredible up at the Berry Auditorium. Thank you
- 41:34Speaker 2: ever so much for coming in here and being part
- 41:37Speaker 2: of the Aired Out podcast. Appreciate you, thank you, Thank you.
