- 0:19Speaker 1: We'd love to work with you.
- 0:21Speaker 3: In the late eighties early nineties, I think one of
- 0:23Speaker 3: their models it had what they called a pervert lever.
- 0:26Speaker 1: I one of those too. Do you want to say? Yeah?
- 0:29Speaker 3: Can you put it away?
- 0:30Speaker 2: The Driver's Show with Paul Marrick and Gordy Waters.
- 0:41Speaker 1: How's it lighting? Is it lighting? Okay?
- 0:44Speaker 3: Well you've got a hat on, so yeah.
- 0:46Speaker 1: But you requested us.
- 0:47Speaker 3: So no, no, no, no, I requested flood.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Lights, soft shadow. We no, I'm lighting. This is what
- 0:53Speaker 1: you will? I need.
- 0:55Speaker 3: I need flood lights and vasoline on the.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Lens Jesus oh on the land.
- 1:00Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah, Okay, what kind of show do you
- 1:02Speaker 3: think this is?
- 1:03Speaker 1: Well? I don't know how much of the show you've
- 1:05Speaker 1: actually heard, but by the way, Steph Coombs is here
- 1:07Speaker 1: and I'm just going through her list of demands. She
- 1:10Speaker 1: has actually just finished a forty five minute foot massage
- 1:13Speaker 1: from the cleaner, which I thought was How was that?
- 1:16Speaker 1: You know what?
- 1:17Speaker 3: It was pretty good. She looked a bit tired at
- 1:19Speaker 3: the end.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Yeah, well she started crying when she got to Bunyip country.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Yeah, and again in my favent. I have huge feet,
- 1:25Speaker 3: so it takes quite a while to work from the
- 1:28Speaker 3: top of the foot down to the bottom of the foot,
- 1:30Speaker 3: and from left to right.
- 1:32Speaker 1: There was a mirror needed in here, but that was
- 1:33Speaker 1: for me just so I can see myself in the
- 1:36Speaker 1: in the reflection.
- 1:37Speaker 3: You haven't looked at me once.
- 1:38Speaker 1: We have a bowl of Eminem's here too, which Steph
- 1:41Speaker 1: demanded the brown ones get picked out. Yeah, not for
- 1:44Speaker 1: any racist reasons or anything like that. I think you
- 1:46Speaker 1: just thought they were almonds. I don't know what would
- 1:49Speaker 1: Are we.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Going to air all my dirty laundry? Okay, yes, all
- 1:52Speaker 3: of it?
- 1:52Speaker 1: Well, including your underpants, which, by the way, sunny sided
- 1:55Speaker 1: up left on the floor. Not a good look.
- 1:58Speaker 3: I'm leaving. We're here to talk about.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Car, are we, I guess if you want, But it would.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Be really nice if I could get those strike cleaned
- 2:04Speaker 3: and returned to me, not like last time, or I
- 2:07Speaker 3: didn't get them back.
- 2:08Speaker 1: You didn't get your clothes.
- 2:09Speaker 3: You're wearing my underpants right now.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Yes, I'm using them. Why you use them as a
- 2:12Speaker 1: hairnout bacon? I'm going to have this turkish to light
- 2:16Speaker 1: while we talk.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Oh, don't do that to them. Oh, they don't want
- 2:19Speaker 3: to hear that. That's so gross.
- 2:22Speaker 1: That always looks a little sass when you look at
- 2:25Speaker 1: it from the inside, brown on the outside, pinped in
- 2:28Speaker 1: the middle.
- 2:29Speaker 3: I don't know what you're referring to.
- 2:30Speaker 1: A bum hoole.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Oh it's a bumhole. I see, Yeah, I don't know.
- 2:34Speaker 3: I don't stare that directly into bumholes all that.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Don't you know? You should check your own bumhole every
- 2:39Speaker 1: now and then. I thank you out of all those
- 2:43Speaker 1: like my muscle chefs and stuff that you eat, you
- 2:46Speaker 1: should really check your poop.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Nothing is said in confidence here. I don't eat well.
- 2:50Speaker 3: What we were discussing before, you kindly bought me a dinner,
- 2:54Speaker 3: which is lovely. That stopped me from digging around in
- 2:56Speaker 3: the bin like a possum.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Yes, which you were doing, by the way, That's how
- 3:00Speaker 1: I found you downstairs. Oh sure, whether to like bring
- 3:05Speaker 1: you in or she you out with a broom.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Thank you for choosing the one where you brought me
- 3:09Speaker 3: up and you fed me back. Yeah.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I grabbed you in a towel, yeah, put you in
- 3:13Speaker 1: a cardboard box and my history and then poked you
- 3:15Speaker 1: a couple of times, and I'm like, okay, I think
- 3:16Speaker 1: she's ready.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's all carts. But yeah, I ate a
- 3:20Speaker 3: lot of microve food, just because I was saying this before,
- 3:23Speaker 3: But eating is just an imposition. And if we could
- 3:25Speaker 3: just get the soilent green version of eating, where you
- 3:28Speaker 3: just get fed a nutritional paste and ideally, you know,
- 3:32Speaker 3: ideally not made out of people. But I'd be kind
- 3:34Speaker 3: of okay with that anyway, then I'd just be a
- 3:36Speaker 3: happier person.
- 3:37Speaker 1: I feel like, I feel like breastfeeding for you is
- 3:40Speaker 1: just like you were just straight to the point. I
- 3:42Speaker 1: am done with nutrition now, mother.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Just give me soilent green.
- 3:46Speaker 1: I don't know what that nineteen sixties reference is.
- 3:50Speaker 3: It's a little bit it's a little bit too high brow.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Yeah, it's going to very like.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Do you prefer me to bring in some like gladiator references?
- 3:57Speaker 1: Yeah, bring in some Russell Crow stuff. Not your bloody
- 3:59Speaker 1: nine teen sixties. I'm a library teacher vibe.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Sorry, some people in this show like to read how
- 4:05Speaker 3: are you? I'm good good. It's been a while since
- 4:08Speaker 3: I've been on this show.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Pavlai Sendsi's condolences.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Have you ever noticed you've never seen us in the
- 4:14Speaker 3: same time, in the same room.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Well, I have seen you. Well, I know that you've
- 4:18Speaker 1: been in the same room before we were. We were.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Actually I was in Japan for the Tokyo Mobility Show,
- 4:25Speaker 3: which was unbelievably cool. Two years ago. I paid for
- 4:29Speaker 3: myself to go to the Tokyo Mobility Show. This is
- 4:30Speaker 3: how much I love this stuff, right, and I got
- 4:33Speaker 3: sent this time to go and cover should I say Honda,
- 4:37Speaker 3: the Honda No, the Honda Storm in particular. It's been
- 4:39Speaker 3: a long day already.
- 4:40Speaker 1: So does that mean like Honda sends you over there? Yeah.
- 4:42Speaker 3: So I was writing for news dot com today and
- 4:46Speaker 3: Honda had some stuff that they wanted to show us.
- 4:48Speaker 3: They want to show us the new Prelude. They want
- 4:50Speaker 3: to show us the.
- 4:51Speaker 1: New Super One Vibe.
- 4:54Speaker 3: I've got a lot to say on both of those.
- 4:55Speaker 3: The Super One is the first electric car that Honda
- 4:58Speaker 3: is bringing to Australia. It's a little bit like a
- 5:02Speaker 3: CA car Ki, those little Japanese guys are not technically
- 5:05Speaker 3: a K car because a CA car is very underpowered
- 5:10Speaker 3: and you can't have those on Australian roads usually because
- 5:13Speaker 3: they're too dangerous. So the super one looks like a
- 5:15Speaker 3: K car. It's cute and it's round whatever. It's just
- 5:18Speaker 3: it's just got a better safety rating than that.
- 5:22Speaker 1: And it was great.
- 5:22Speaker 3: It was fun.
- 5:23Speaker 1: But by the way, wash your vibe on the Prelude,
- 5:25Speaker 1: because looking on paper, I thought it looked kind of cool.
- 5:29Speaker 1: It sort of felt underpowered. I think the vibe is
- 5:33Speaker 1: it's not fast, but it is fun.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Paul sounded out really well where he said it's a fast,
- 5:38Speaker 3: slow car, and I like that line, and I was like, oh,
- 5:42Speaker 3: I passed that on to it. Why do I rip
- 5:43Speaker 3: that off? And passed off as my mind? But no,
- 5:45Speaker 3: I won't that those were his words, and I think
- 5:47Speaker 3: that for a lot of people, yeah, they will feel
- 5:49Speaker 3: like it is a slightly underpowered car and it is
- 5:53Speaker 3: a hybrid, and you know, the power train is not
- 5:56Speaker 3: extremely like gutsy and exciting. But the history of the
- 5:58Speaker 3: Prelude is that it wasn't ever really like a sports car.
- 6:01Speaker 1: It was never a you know, it was a genuine
- 6:05Speaker 1: car if anything.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's about confiden it's about handling. So you
- 6:09Speaker 3: never had a car that was blistering. It was a car.
- 6:11Speaker 3: That's why it was called a secretary's car in Australia.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Or no, it was a hairdressers car in Australia. It
- 6:15Speaker 3: was a secretary's car in America. And that was because
- 6:19Speaker 3: it kind of looked spawty and then you drove and
- 6:20Speaker 3: it was a little bit gutless. So I kind of
- 6:22Speaker 3: got that reputation in Japan. Here's a fun prelude fum fact.
- 6:25Speaker 3: In Japan, it was known as a date car. But
- 6:28Speaker 3: date car it was, but it had it had a
- 6:30Speaker 3: bad reputation in Japan. And this was this flew under
- 6:33Speaker 3: the radar. It was in the late eighties, early nineties.
- 6:36Speaker 3: I think one of their prelumed models. It had what
- 6:39Speaker 3: they called a pervert lever. Okay, one of those two
- 6:43Speaker 3: do you want to say, yeah, can you put it away?
- 6:45Speaker 3: The the pervert lever was when you had the chair recline, right.
- 6:52Speaker 3: Usually when you have the chair reilcline and it's on
- 6:54Speaker 3: the side of the door, okay, and that's how the
- 6:57Speaker 3: passenger is in control of that. But in the prelude
- 7:00Speaker 3: in Japan, and the passenger seat recline was in easiest
- 7:04Speaker 3: reach for the driver. So if you're driving with a
- 7:08Speaker 3: partner and you decide like we've gone to make out
- 7:10Speaker 3: point and we're gonna get more serious, the driver would
- 7:12Speaker 3: be able to like honk down your seat.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Give you a big pink yeah.
- 7:15Speaker 3: And then that's why I had this date car reputation.
- 7:18Speaker 1: It's not like the Prolia do something you would drive
- 7:21Speaker 1: just so you could just do a bit of honking.
- 7:25Speaker 3: What can I say that suits my vile yeah, but yeah.
- 7:27Speaker 3: But anyway, so that's the history of the car is
- 7:30Speaker 3: that it's never been like a really gutsy Growley car,
- 7:33Speaker 3: and this one wasn't. The hybrid would be disappointing, but
- 7:37Speaker 3: the simulated manual mode was really convincing. It was very fun.
- 7:41Speaker 3: I reckon people aren't going to be wildly There'll be
- 7:44Speaker 3: some there'll be some enthusiasts, some people who really like
- 7:47Speaker 3: the history of the car and who had it. You know,
- 7:49Speaker 3: maybe in there they think that it's going to be
- 7:51Speaker 3: a big gen X car. They think gen x is
- 7:53Speaker 3: going to go mad for it, so maybe it'll just
- 7:55Speaker 3: have that nostalgia. Yeah, now I can finally afford it.
- 7:58Speaker 3: We don't know pricing yet. I suspect it will be expensive.
- 8:00Speaker 3: There is a bit expensive.
- 8:01Speaker 1: The thing is, though, like you don't see many preludes
- 8:04Speaker 1: on the road now.
- 8:05Speaker 3: They were discontinued in early two thousand something, like, you know,
- 8:09Speaker 3: a lot of them just don't exist anymore.
- 8:11Speaker 1: But there's still just not a huge amount of love
- 8:14Speaker 1: for the There's not like a huge cult vibe from them.
- 8:18Speaker 3: Maybe maybe this is just me right, because I am
- 8:21Speaker 3: actually a bit of a Honda fan girl. I would
- 8:23Speaker 3: love a prelude, and I keep my eye open on
- 8:25Speaker 3: them Facebook marketplace.
- 8:26Speaker 1: I can tell you would love a proude I would.
- 8:28Speaker 1: I know it.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Yeah, it's the perfect lea. But I did ask if
- 8:31Speaker 3: they had it in this model. They do not. They
- 8:34Speaker 3: they didn't continue that well, but god damn Jesus, we
- 8:39Speaker 3: re ruined it for everyone.
- 8:40Speaker 1: You ed it. You run the bloody what do you
- 8:43Speaker 1: call it? The you ruined it?
- 8:47Speaker 3: We did, we did.
- 8:48Speaker 1: You were your bloody equal rights Jesus.
- 8:51Speaker 3: But they're like, it's you know that's still got the
- 8:53Speaker 3: date car DNA. It's like, yeah, but I can't force
- 8:56Speaker 3: my date to recline, you know, while we're at make
- 8:58Speaker 3: out point, can I what's the point?
- 9:00Speaker 1: What am I going to do with this happy meal?
- 9:02Speaker 3: Yes?
- 9:05Speaker 1: What are we going to do with this? Okay? So
- 9:07Speaker 1: the Toyota, the Tokyo Motor Show, I guess, or the
- 9:10Speaker 1: Tokyo Mobility Show, which, by the way, does sound like
- 9:14Speaker 1: something for disabled people. Well, I mean that is actually
- 9:17Speaker 1: why I thought you were there, that is, and I.
- 9:20Speaker 3: Don't take that as an insult because it's not an insult,
- 9:22Speaker 3: thank you. Mobility is for everyone.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Of course.
- 9:25Speaker 3: That actually was a big part of the show, honestly,
- 9:27Speaker 3: like assisted mobility. Japan has a big aging population and
- 9:31Speaker 3: there's a lot of stuff that supported that because they've
- 9:34Speaker 3: got a huge crisis coming as their population gets older
- 9:36Speaker 3: and there's not enough people to look after the.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Eato bloody healthy over there. That's their problem, right, They
- 9:41Speaker 1: need a bit of a turnaround.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Give them some microwave meals. I can give them some
- 9:45Speaker 3: tips exactly. I make it to.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Forty if you want that. I want that bean bag
- 9:50Speaker 1: like stomach whatever it is, with your bits of plastic
- 9:53Speaker 1: in it. Hey, miagi, I got a fucking deal for you.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Eat some microplastics.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Yes, I mean we did. Going we eat your box
- 10:01Speaker 1: of shit and get out of cut your bond's eye tree,
- 10:05Speaker 1: eat your meal. There's your plot in the ground. Yeah.
- 10:08Speaker 3: Too much mindfulness, too much good living, too much lifestyle.
- 10:13Speaker 3: So that look, the mobility is a big part of it.
- 10:15Speaker 3: But they also just had some cool stuff, right, was
- 10:18Speaker 3: it cool stuff? I think that Toyota had a few
- 10:21Speaker 3: really fun things on there.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Is that what they revealed? The Highlux?
- 10:25Speaker 3: No, they had the area, If they did, I didn't
- 10:27Speaker 3: say it. No, they had the New Century.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that was like, yes, the suv.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Yeah, it looked great because it was so shiny and
- 10:37Speaker 3: it was this really violent orange color and under the
- 10:40Speaker 3: lighting and they were like, oh, this is the car
- 10:43Speaker 3: that gives us vision for the future. They were a
- 10:45Speaker 3: bit emotional about it. How much will it be? I
- 10:48Speaker 3: don't know. Would you buy a Toyota instead of a Bentley,
- 10:51Speaker 3: you're noddy.
- 10:51Speaker 1: I would, But I would buy a Century, one of
- 10:54Speaker 1: the New Centuries every day of the week, every day. Yeah,
- 10:58Speaker 1: because like, for say, let's say, the price you're getting
- 11:00Speaker 1: one of those cars half the price of a Rolls
- 11:03Speaker 1: Royce and way less wonkyre like. I'm sorry, but a
- 11:05Speaker 1: lot of the new roles are so I fucked the Bentley.
- 11:09Speaker 1: The Bentley Bentager is a shit car. It's so shit,
- 11:13Speaker 1: it's so shit, it's so overrated. It's like, oh, half
- 11:16Speaker 1: a million barks felt like a heavy piece of junk.
- 11:19Speaker 3: Have you driven up?
- 11:20Speaker 1: Yes?
- 11:21Speaker 3: Why are you driving Bentley's? Then I'm not driving Bentley's.
- 11:23Speaker 3: That doesn't seem fair. Why because I should have a Bentley?
- 11:26Speaker 3: Where's my Bentley?
- 11:27Speaker 1: Well? What have you done to get a Bentley?
- 11:29Speaker 3: What have you done to get a Bentley?
- 11:30Speaker 1: I started a podcast?
- 11:32Speaker 3: Yeah, well maybe this will be enough. Hey Bentley? Yeah,
- 11:37Speaker 3: and I won't. I won't come on and rubbish it
- 11:39Speaker 3: so you know you won't get that's.
- 11:40Speaker 1: The whole point of the podcast. I'm not gonna lie
- 11:42Speaker 1: to people.
- 11:42Speaker 3: There's shit cars, okkay, alright, alright, alright, there's shit I
- 11:45Speaker 3: won't like. I also have a soft spot for Bentley
- 11:48Speaker 3: because I love the Bath's twelve hour Yes, and they're
- 11:51Speaker 3: not in the GT series anymore, which is tragic, I think.
- 11:53Speaker 3: But when I saw that green Bentley win the Baths
- 11:56Speaker 3: don't like what that's cool? It was sick because I
- 12:00Speaker 3: don't think of them as racing cars. They're like comfortable couches. Yeah,
- 12:04Speaker 3: and to see like a couch when an endurance race
- 12:07Speaker 3: was was sick and the next year they're out of it.
- 12:11Speaker 1: I'm going to talk about an old Bentley later on,
- 12:13Speaker 1: which we'll get to in a second. Not totally shit
- 12:15Speaker 1: counting Bentley.
- 12:15Speaker 3: I just that one.
- 12:17Speaker 1: You don't A lot of them are overrated.
- 12:19Speaker 3: But yeah, I think the Century was pricing obviously not out.
- 12:21Speaker 3: Will it comes to Australia.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Yeah, no.
- 12:24Speaker 3: But the other thing is is like you know, they're
- 12:26Speaker 3: like we have this new luxury brand, like what Century,
- 12:28Speaker 3: and you know obviously it's been around before, but like,
- 12:30Speaker 3: oh we reallauded. It's beautiful, and then like this is premium.
- 12:33Speaker 3: And meanwhile in the corner, Lexus is like, oh oh no,
- 12:38Speaker 3: the prop It's like get in the corner.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Yeah, get in the corner. You're adopted, Get in the corner,
- 12:47Speaker 1: you're pracy bitch.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:48Speaker 1: So Lexus is impression of Toyota, complete with Japanese accent.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Yeah, and I was just going to let that one
- 12:54Speaker 3: go through the keeper, but thank you for bringing attention
- 12:56Speaker 3: back to it. But Lexus, yeah, which I felt like
- 12:59Speaker 3: Oh that must make them feel a little bit like
- 13:02Speaker 3: who are we in the market if you've got this
- 13:04Speaker 3: like actual, like holy shit, amazing brand. And then Lexus,
- 13:09Speaker 3: which is a premium brand, but it's not the big, shiny,
- 13:13Speaker 3: beautiful orange supercar that they've just released.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Family.
- 13:18Speaker 3: Oh my god, this is absolutely not. I actually speak
- 13:22Speaker 3: a bit of Japanese.
- 13:23Speaker 1: I do you already? No, don't have a conversation.
- 13:27Speaker 3: Absolutely not. Please stop Lexus, Yeah you can, very bad.
- 13:37Speaker 3: This is okay. I feel like I have to talk
- 13:40Speaker 3: about a European car or something to stop. I feel
- 13:44Speaker 3: like you watched the Karate Kid and that's kind of
- 13:47Speaker 3: all that you've absorved.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Stephanie Bonzi. I basically wanted to. I want to. I've
- 13:54Speaker 1: always wanted like to beat up the bully in the
- 13:57Speaker 1: car park and somebody you were the bully in the
- 14:00Speaker 1: car now No, I'm the hero of this story, okay.
- 14:03Speaker 1: And somebody hands me a gigantic, way oversized trophy and
- 14:09Speaker 1: just says, you're all right, LaRusso you're all right.
- 14:14Speaker 3: A formative, afformative film.
- 14:16Speaker 1: All I wanted, right, Okay, we should talk about you.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Last time you were on here, you were like, oh,
- 14:25Speaker 1: I don't curve for Genesis. Stop it.
- 14:29Speaker 3: I was dully then I was such a joke about Jennial.
- 14:34Speaker 1: He was such a shit canner.
- 14:36Speaker 3: I just think they look a little bit boring. And
- 14:38Speaker 3: then I think they were brilliant.
- 14:41Speaker 1: And I told you how good they were. I told
- 14:42Speaker 1: you they were one of my boss genuinely. My boss
- 14:45Speaker 1: the other day said hey, I'm tossing up between a
- 14:47Speaker 1: BMW X three and that's it, and I said, fuck
- 14:52Speaker 1: your X three, get a Genesis. And you've never heard
- 14:54Speaker 1: of them. He goes, what are they? And I told him, hey,
- 14:56Speaker 1: they're like the Lexus of young Day, but they are
- 14:59Speaker 1: South kore In just gold. Just go get it and
- 15:03Speaker 1: buy them.
- 15:03Speaker 3: Don't buy them, you buy them secondary.
- 15:05Speaker 1: There's a fair few people downstairs too that have asked me,
- 15:08Speaker 1: and I've spooked the good name of Jennie.
- 15:09Speaker 3: Look and I will in my words. I said that
- 15:12Speaker 3: when I saw them drive by, I'm I was like, oh,
- 15:14Speaker 3: is that an interesting current?
- 15:15Speaker 1: Then I'm like, oh, by second hand? Why buy secondhand.
- 15:18Speaker 3: Because they lose a lot of value on resale. Yeah,
- 15:21Speaker 3: so if you want it, you'll save a lot of
- 15:22Speaker 3: money if you buy it once it's off the lot.
- 15:24Speaker 3: But having said that. I don't think that's necessarily fair
- 15:26Speaker 3: because I think that it's brand recognition is the problem.
- 15:29Speaker 3: Because I hitcanned them.
- 15:31Speaker 1: They reached out to you. They listened to this podcast
- 15:33Speaker 1: they did, and they went.
- 15:35Speaker 3: They were like, hey, Steph, why don't you drive this
- 15:37Speaker 3: car before you say something about it. I'm like, oh, okay, sorry,
- 15:40Speaker 3: So I was rewarded for bad behavior. So I was
- 15:42Speaker 3: in the GV seventy and the GB eighty and both
- 15:45Speaker 3: cars were really good, so good.
- 15:49Speaker 1: They were so good.
- 15:51Speaker 3: It was so fun, and they drove beautifully. The engine
- 15:56Speaker 3: sounded amazing. I think it had this like really low
- 15:58Speaker 3: grumbly sound. It was really responsive to drive. I actually
- 16:02Speaker 3: think the the GV eighty, though, I think was a
- 16:05Speaker 3: better car on the road. I thought that was stunning.
- 16:08Speaker 3: It was actually really really comfortable to drive.
- 16:11Speaker 1: They're so well kitted out. That's sports coup that I
- 16:14Speaker 1: had back in I think it was July. They were
- 16:17Speaker 1: amazing and like, like they've got all the BS in
- 16:20Speaker 1: the back, the TV screens and stuff like that, which
- 16:23Speaker 1: probably not necessary, but I like the fact that they're there.
- 16:25Speaker 3: Yes, such a little but like that's it has all
- 16:28Speaker 3: the silly tech which you can love or ignore all whatever,
- 16:31Speaker 3: but it's there. A lot of people want.
- 16:32Speaker 1: It, I think, I think a lot of people. For me,
- 16:34Speaker 1: it's basically got like all the high end lux tech
- 16:38Speaker 1: that you're getting in European cars, but you're not paying
- 16:41Speaker 1: that price.
- 16:41Speaker 3: But it has the engine and the feel of the car.
- 16:44Speaker 3: It's around, it feels good on the road, and I
- 16:46Speaker 3: thought that the tech was less intrusive, like the safety
- 16:49Speaker 3: tech I think, especially in the GV eighty was really
- 16:52Speaker 3: good lan assist. I can find it tries to yunk
- 16:54Speaker 3: me in front of trucks of air bit. I don't
- 16:56Speaker 3: know if you've experienced that on lane assist, But whereas
- 16:58Speaker 3: I thought, all of the safety tech wasn't intrusive, which
- 17:02Speaker 3: was nice. So yeah, anyway, so I eat my words
- 17:05Speaker 3: on that one. Genesis. Yes, Gordy as well, I gave
- 17:09Speaker 3: you a hard time for that, but I will say
- 17:11Speaker 3: that is a that was a nice car.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a great car. And weirdly did this end
- 17:16Speaker 1: you getting an Excel.
- 17:21Speaker 3: There is a wonderful story here. This is actually so
- 17:23Speaker 3: the best, the best thing that's happened to me this year.
- 17:25Speaker 3: I've been in the lookout for a while. I've really
- 17:28Speaker 3: wanted a pristine shipbox. That's my thing. Like a bad car,
- 17:32Speaker 3: an average car that's in really good condition, that's quite old,
- 17:35Speaker 3: because you know, if you're buying a Ferrari, right, you're
- 17:39Speaker 3: looking after it and you have this understanding that it
- 17:41Speaker 3: will either keep its value or appreciated value, right, And
- 17:45Speaker 3: that's why there are a lot of like pristine looking
- 17:47Speaker 3: supercars that are quite old. But you don't get that
- 17:51Speaker 3: for bad cars. No one buys a Hyundi Excel or
- 17:55Speaker 3: you know.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Any of this. Which way do Excel now are great?
- 17:58Speaker 3: Now?
- 17:58Speaker 1: Well?
- 17:59Speaker 3: You know, well now they're the I thirty right, that's
- 18:01Speaker 3: sort of the family that it branched into. But as
- 18:03Speaker 3: I was handing back the Genesis the keys, there was
- 18:06Speaker 3: this really old looking car in the lot and it
- 18:09Speaker 3: had perfect paint work. And if you're looking for a
- 18:11Speaker 3: shitty old car, paint work is you know the one
- 18:14Speaker 3: when you.
- 18:14Speaker 1: When you were handing back the keys of the Genesis. Yeah,
- 18:16Speaker 1: this was in the day headquarters.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Yes, well, anyway, so there's this. This wasn't the sprint though,
- 18:21Speaker 3: and I was like it was a pony, the predecessor
- 18:24Speaker 3: to the Excel anyway, So the pony was there and
- 18:27Speaker 3: I said to the guys, I'm like, what's the deal
- 18:28Speaker 3: with that car. I'm like, that's a beautiful old car.
- 18:31Speaker 3: The paint on that is exquisite. And they're like, oh, yeah,
- 18:33Speaker 3: we used it for a photo shoot. I reckon they
- 18:35Speaker 3: might be getting rid of it. And I'm like, no one, Like,
- 18:37Speaker 3: like I was putting my arms around it, like don't
- 18:40Speaker 3: take this baby away from me, you know, I'll look
- 18:41Speaker 3: after her. And they were like, yeah, just get in
- 18:44Speaker 3: touch with your car person and see what the deal is,
- 18:46Speaker 3: because it's like if they're going to throw it out,
- 18:48Speaker 3: and I was like, that's throw it out. But anyway,
- 18:50Speaker 3: So I got in touch and they were like, all right,
- 18:52Speaker 3: you know, no, it hasn't actually got an engine in it,
- 18:53Speaker 3: which which would have been a problem for me. And
- 18:55Speaker 3: it's got a little bit of historic value. It's got
- 18:57Speaker 3: a bit of a story, that car. And they're like,
- 18:59Speaker 3: but I can I know something that you'll like put
- 19:01Speaker 3: me in touch with a Hyundai employee who was selling
- 19:05Speaker 3: his Excel, which is the car that I've now bought.
- 19:08Speaker 3: It's a nineteen ninety one Hundi Excel. It has less
- 19:11Speaker 3: than thirty thousand kilometers on it, so great it's brand new,
- 19:14Speaker 3: it was garaged. It's the Sprint edition. It's got these
- 19:17Speaker 3: like pin striped stickers.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Yeah, the stickers making stickers are still on. They look
- 19:22Speaker 1: so bad.
- 19:22Speaker 3: They look incredible.
- 19:23Speaker 1: And the caps the wheels, yeah.
- 19:25Speaker 3: The caps, so the plastic cub caps, it has all
- 19:28Speaker 3: four of them. This car, it's absolutely yeah, it's imperfect.
- 19:32Speaker 3: It's a five speed manual. It's imperfect condition. It's like
- 19:35Speaker 3: it's brand new, which means it's still a shit car.
- 19:37Speaker 1: And how much then, how much did you pay for it?
- 19:41Speaker 3: Fills?
- 19:42Speaker 1: Oh, you got it for five grand.
- 19:43Speaker 3: That's amazing, I reckon, that's probably what it's worth.
- 19:47Speaker 1: No, it's not. I regon that's what If this person's listening,
- 19:51Speaker 1: I would have paid eight.
- 19:53Speaker 3: You wouldn't have loved it like me, though, I would.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Have loved the fact that I have it and you don't.
- 19:58Speaker 3: Yeah, And I would have because then it would have
- 20:00Speaker 3: been a bidding walk because I really wanted it. And
- 20:02Speaker 3: I took it to a friend. I've got a friend
- 20:04Speaker 3: who is the owner of the muscle car warehouse. Yeah right,
- 20:08Speaker 3: And so I had it delivered there just while I
- 20:09Speaker 3: got for every car in that place is worth more
- 20:12Speaker 3: than my wall wage. Like twice over. It's unbelievable. They've
- 20:15Speaker 3: got the most insane cars, but they treated my excel.
- 20:20Speaker 3: It was this vip car. It was on the floor
- 20:23Speaker 3: of their warehouse. They did they detailed it. It looked amazing.
- 20:25Speaker 3: They put like the muscle car warehouse plates on it
- 20:27Speaker 3: while they were doing work on it. Meanwhile, there's like
- 20:30Speaker 3: a walking short next to it that's done. You know,
- 20:32Speaker 3: it's never been registered. That's worth you know, six hundred
- 20:34Speaker 3: thousand dollars and it's sort of just sitting there. And
- 20:37Speaker 3: they were like, oh, look, well we'll help you out.
- 20:39Speaker 3: You know, I know someone who has a car club.
- 20:41Speaker 3: So my huned I Excel is officially if you're wondering
- 20:44Speaker 3: what historic plates, it's officially part of the Sydney Prestige
- 20:48Speaker 3: and Muscle Car Club.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Oh good, And so you're on historic plates and that thing.
- 20:52Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah yeah.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Like how many CA's per.
- 20:56Speaker 3: Year, Not very far, so it's it's more days. I think,
- 21:00Speaker 3: like fifty or sixty days of the year you're allowed to.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Drive, okay, but you didn't drive it here.
- 21:05Speaker 3: I was like, oh no, no, no no. I live
- 21:07Speaker 3: in the Eastern suburbs near the water.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Mortgage mortgage is classic.
- 21:17Speaker 3: But the problem with these old cars a reason why
- 21:20Speaker 3: not many of them existed, particularly that era of the Hyundai.
- 21:24Speaker 3: You tipped the paint in a week, the panel would
- 21:26Speaker 3: just have rusted off. Yeah, they was so susceptible to russ.
- 21:29Speaker 3: So all of these cars, they just do not exist
- 21:32Speaker 3: on the road. I cannot have this within one hundred
- 21:34Speaker 3: kilometers of any kind of ocean. I'm keeping it with
- 21:37Speaker 3: my parents, which are in the Southern Highlands, just to
- 21:39Speaker 3: keep it nice and.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Nice and fresh fresh nice.
- 21:42Speaker 3: Yeah, that's my so thank you because of this podcast,
- 21:47Speaker 3: I met the love of my life myself.
- 21:49Speaker 1: There you go. This podcast brings I was going to say,
- 21:52Speaker 1: people together, things together. What do you think of the
- 21:55Speaker 1: Toyota Highlarks.
- 21:56Speaker 3: Yeah, look, so I was at the launch for that
- 21:59Speaker 3: a short while ago. It's an interesting car. Always, I
- 22:02Speaker 3: think that it's hard, right, because that's a car that
- 22:05Speaker 3: people love, and there is a big argument to be
- 22:08Speaker 3: made for if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
- 22:12Speaker 1: And yeah, I think at some point though, progress has
- 22:14Speaker 1: got to take shape. And yeah, I question whether this
- 22:18Speaker 1: was enough putting that old what is it the you
- 22:21Speaker 1: still kept the two point eight liter for cylinder turbo
- 22:24Speaker 1: diesel in it.
- 22:25Speaker 3: So here here's the thing, right, there's a lot of carryover,
- 22:28Speaker 3: So it's the same chassis, it's the same engine, and
- 22:31Speaker 3: that two point eight liter four cylinder is going to
- 22:33Speaker 3: be across all the variants. We've lost the cheaper petrol models,
- 22:37Speaker 3: and I think that there was a two point four
- 22:39Speaker 3: liter diesel as well that's now gone. The biggest change
- 22:42Speaker 3: I think if you're going from one drive experience to
- 22:44Speaker 3: the next is the steering is really different. So it's
- 22:47Speaker 3: not hydraulic steering, its power electric steering now, and that
- 22:51Speaker 3: makes it really beautiful on the road. The comfort is
- 22:55Speaker 3: really good. The interior has been changed for comfort. The
- 22:57Speaker 3: screen they did.
- 22:59Speaker 1: The god like do you know what's wild up until
- 23:02Speaker 1: like even now as we as we record this episode,
- 23:05Speaker 1: people are paying eighty five ninety thousand dollars drive away
- 23:10Speaker 1: for a highlux that is so old, like the tech
- 23:14Speaker 1: in it, the interior and it is just like you
- 23:17Speaker 1: don't even get Apple car Play or Android Auto.
- 23:20Speaker 3: Well now you do. So's that's now across it. And
- 23:23Speaker 3: what it does is it makes this car competitive again
- 23:26Speaker 3: a little bit longer, I think in the mark, so
- 23:28Speaker 3: it keeps it alive what I'm guessing is that they
- 23:31Speaker 3: can see that the dual cab UoT market is getting
- 23:34Speaker 3: more competitive and it's softening. A lot of people who
- 23:38Speaker 3: have these cars have these cars now. A lot of
- 23:40Speaker 3: the tax advantages that really brought people into buying them
- 23:43Speaker 3: have finished up. So why would you reinvest a lot
- 23:47Speaker 3: of money and time and resources into it when they're
- 23:49Speaker 3: probably going to get diminishing returns. So keep it a
- 23:51Speaker 3: float a little bit longer rather than five for it.
- 23:53Speaker 1: And I think there are no There are no condic car,
- 23:56Speaker 1: There's no doubt about it. Yeah. The thing is, I
- 23:59Speaker 1: just think the price point it's at, they haven't quite
- 24:02Speaker 1: done enough like it's it might have kept it in
- 24:04Speaker 1: the game, but I don't think it's enough for it
- 24:06Speaker 1: to They should have done more for it to lead
- 24:09Speaker 1: in the game.
- 24:10Speaker 3: I think that that's strategic though. I'd like these guys
- 24:12Speaker 3: don't do anything that's like, they know exactly what the
- 24:15Speaker 3: market is worth and they can reject where it's going
- 24:17Speaker 3: to be in a few years time. I think that
- 24:19Speaker 3: they have done exactly what they think makes sense in
- 24:21Speaker 3: the market. That's and they're not trying to win. They
- 24:23Speaker 3: don't need to be number one they're selling enough and
- 24:25Speaker 3: if they, you know, there's no point spending double to
- 24:28Speaker 3: completely redevelop the car to get back to number one
- 24:32Speaker 3: and sell you a few thousand more units. The amount
- 24:35Speaker 3: it's diminishing returns, I think is probably really I reckon.
- 24:39Speaker 1: I feel like if they if they put just a
- 24:41Speaker 1: little more something something into it.
- 24:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, and a lot of people agree. But
- 24:46Speaker 3: if you don't like that, you've got a lot of
- 24:47Speaker 3: other options and you're never going to please anyone. Here's
- 24:50Speaker 3: my thing about you though, all right, here's my controversial
- 24:53Speaker 3: lady's opinion on you. And god knows men love it
- 24:56Speaker 3: when women have an opinion on you. But the thing
- 24:59Speaker 3: I reckon, all these car manufacturers are missing a trick here.
- 25:02Speaker 1: What do you mean?
- 25:03Speaker 3: Well, Key and Tasman did the same thing. When you're
- 25:05Speaker 3: looking at the ads that those guys ran, it's blowkey
- 25:09Speaker 3: blokes doing blokey ute stuff and they're all trade's or
- 25:13Speaker 3: whatever and it's sports, don't you And now for the highlights,
- 25:18Speaker 3: it's the same thing. It's blokey like they're all pushing
- 25:21Speaker 3: the one line, which is trade's are men right? And
- 25:25Speaker 3: definitely obviously utes are something that's being driven a lot
- 25:29Speaker 3: by trades. That's the market they're trying to capture. There
- 25:31Speaker 3: is a secondary market that everyone is intent on ignoring.
- 25:35Speaker 3: The guys who are buying this often are family men,
- 25:38Speaker 3: and if you're buying a car, you can't just have
- 25:41Speaker 3: like one person driving it you. If you're a family
- 25:43Speaker 3: your wife's going to need to drive that to take
- 25:45Speaker 3: you to the shops to drop off the kids. Women
- 25:48Speaker 3: are just ignored in this at all. And if you
- 25:49Speaker 3: look at all the changes that have been made in
- 25:51Speaker 3: the high Lux, they're all comfort changes. The car is
- 25:55Speaker 3: more comfortable to drive. That's it. None of this is
- 25:57Speaker 3: about performance.
- 25:58Speaker 1: All they've done in the Highlight.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just a it's a more comfortable car to
- 26:02Speaker 3: sit in to drive.
- 26:03Speaker 1: It's also a different look, yeah.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Which is and I feel like I can talk about
- 26:07Speaker 3: that in a moment. But the because I also have
- 26:10Speaker 3: feelings on the appearance of this thing, but the way
- 26:12Speaker 3: that it's marketed, I think that they're forgetting this secondary market,
- 26:16Speaker 3: which is that this wouldn't be the most popular car.
- 26:18Speaker 3: Youutes wouldn't be the most popular car in Australia if
- 26:21Speaker 3: they weren't serving as family cars. And I think that
- 26:23Speaker 3: if they want to get these sales across you have
- 26:25Speaker 3: to say to women. Because I was talking to someone
- 26:27Speaker 3: at work the other day who was like, oh, yeah,
- 26:30Speaker 3: I wanted to I wanted to you, but my wife
- 26:32Speaker 3: said absolutely not. And I'm like, well, there's your problem,
- 26:35Speaker 3: Like you've got to show this as a car that's
- 26:37Speaker 3: actually useful for you know, you know, he's a tough
- 26:41Speaker 3: tradey driving and then you get to take it to
- 26:44Speaker 3: the shops or whatever, and it's convenient because you chuck
- 26:46Speaker 3: your groceries in it. But that side of it is
- 26:48Speaker 3: being ignored by all these car manufacturers.
- 26:51Speaker 1: Isn't that what SUVs are more popular than ever, But
- 26:53Speaker 1: that's the thing.
- 26:54Speaker 3: They're trying to make utes closer to the suv, but
- 26:57Speaker 3: also but kind of covertly marketing to this group rather
- 27:02Speaker 3: than overtly marketing to this group. And I think it's
- 27:04Speaker 3: mostly weekend warrior dad types who are getting these high range,
- 27:09Speaker 3: spect up off roading vehicles, whether or not they actually
- 27:11Speaker 3: take it anything, you know, off dirt is remains.
- 27:15Speaker 1: So I'm just looking out. I'm just chat chepting what's
- 27:16Speaker 1: the most popular Oh, don't use chat chip. What's the
- 27:19Speaker 1: most popular style of car in Australia. In Australia today,
- 27:22Speaker 1: the most popular style of car is in a little sedan.
- 27:26Speaker 1: It's a larger vehicles like SUVs and SUVs, coming in
- 27:30Speaker 1: at number one, sports utility vehicles. SUVs they've become the
- 27:33Speaker 1: clear favorite embody style for Australians, accounting for around sixty
- 27:37Speaker 1: percent of all new vehicle sales. Second are utes. So
- 27:43Speaker 1: the thing is, I think what you're saying is very true.
- 27:46Speaker 1: But that's why SUVs have kind of climbed to number one.
- 27:49Speaker 3: In twenty twenty four, the top selling car was still
- 27:52Speaker 3: the Ford Ranger, right, and then we had the Rab four,
- 27:54Speaker 3: which is an suv, and then we had the High Lucks.
- 27:56Speaker 3: You are not driving. I don't think that these Ford
- 27:59Speaker 3: Ranges and these highluxes that are selling really well, they're
- 28:02Speaker 3: not just being sold dust to tradees. It's just that
- 28:04Speaker 3: that's not it. They have this, they have this secondary life.
- 28:07Speaker 3: They want to but you want to sell more cars.
- 28:09Speaker 1: But no trade is buying one of those Toyota Red Force.
- 28:13Speaker 3: But like men are still involved in the marketing, but
- 28:15Speaker 3: you still have like this is the thing. I'm just
- 28:17Speaker 3: saying that. I'm not saying that like it's not an
- 28:19Speaker 3: inclusivity thing. I think it's just business sense that the
- 28:22Speaker 3: people who are driving these top of the range just
- 28:24Speaker 3: because like Trade's aren't getting.
- 28:27Speaker 1: They're advertising rugged X advertising like straight up and down.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Why would you advertise it as a woman's car when no.
- 28:35Speaker 3: No, no, no, it's not advertising as a woman's car.
- 28:38Speaker 3: It is advertising it as you know. Sure, he can
- 28:41Speaker 3: go put the cement bags in the back and then
- 28:44Speaker 3: have a couple of shots of you know, women driving
- 28:47Speaker 3: to do whatever the hell they want. Just have a
- 28:49Speaker 3: picture of a women in a car doing something, maneuvering it.
- 28:52Speaker 3: They are so absent from the campaign that is to me,
- 28:55Speaker 3: I think ignoring the secondary market. And it's why people
- 28:58Speaker 3: like and you know, I don't care. I have no
- 29:00Speaker 3: skin in this game, really like I'm not buying these,
- 29:03Speaker 3: but I just think that they're missing a trick. They're
- 29:05Speaker 3: missing a trick. This is what the cars are used for.
- 29:07Speaker 3: They're making the cars more comfortable because people are driving
- 29:09Speaker 3: them like SUVs. Just acknowledge the fact. Acknowledge the fact
- 29:13Speaker 3: that there might be a family involved in this. I
- 29:16Speaker 3: think the advertising is derivative.
- 29:18Speaker 1: I think there might be, but I don't understand.
- 29:20Speaker 3: Because if you want to sell stuff. You want to
- 29:22Speaker 3: show people using the car, who would be using the car,
- 29:25Speaker 3: that's the thing.
- 29:26Speaker 1: But clearly like a ute is for a tradee there's
- 29:29Speaker 1: no doubt about it. What do you think it should
- 29:30Speaker 1: be more of a family car?
- 29:32Speaker 3: I think that that is why a lot of people
- 29:33Speaker 3: are buying them. It wouldn't affod the Ranger would not
- 29:36Speaker 3: be the top selling car in Australia if it didn't
- 29:38Speaker 3: have a secondary market of people who are using.
- 29:40Speaker 1: How many women do you see driving Rangers? But like
- 29:44Speaker 1: percentage wise.
- 29:45Speaker 3: I'm not sitting there with a notebook. But that's you
- 29:49Speaker 3: buy them. It's a family car, I think for a
- 29:51Speaker 3: lot of people because you buy them so you can
- 29:53Speaker 3: have the horse trailer or the caravan off the back
- 29:56Speaker 3: and that's that's a family activity.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Well, I just I think now like the ute is
- 30:00Speaker 1: definitely more of a family car than it used to
- 30:02Speaker 1: be because when we were growing up, the ute was
- 30:05Speaker 1: two seats in the front, just enough for the trady
- 30:08Speaker 1: and maybe an apprentice.
- 30:09Speaker 3: Yeah exactly.
- 30:10Speaker 1: But now like the trading wants to use it as
- 30:12Speaker 1: a main car. So that's hence why the dual cabs
- 30:15Speaker 1: a popular, say spending.
- 30:17Speaker 3: Seventy five thousand dollars on a car you're probably between
- 30:20Speaker 3: thirty five to let's say sixty five, and I reckon
- 30:24Speaker 3: that that means that you're likely you have kids, and
- 30:26Speaker 3: that means that the car is going to be used
- 30:28Speaker 3: for two purposes. I don't reckon. I'm not saying that
- 30:31Speaker 3: you need to paint it pink and you know, call
- 30:33Speaker 3: it the tampon mabile. I just think that's a great idea, though, yeah,
- 30:37Speaker 3: that's how you drive it.
- 30:38Speaker 1: I would drive the tamponile, but.
- 30:40Speaker 3: You just need to I just think that it's just
- 30:42Speaker 3: a just a market that would make sense to acknowledge
- 30:46Speaker 3: because in advertising, right, if everyone is zigging, it pays
- 30:49Speaker 3: to be zagging. I'm seeing the same fucking ad over
- 30:52Speaker 3: and over again.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Give me an example.
- 30:54Speaker 3: It's like, okay, every every ad you see red dirt
- 30:57Speaker 3: and just blokes driving around a rugged red and they're
- 31:00Speaker 3: always twenty thirty something, right and then and they're just
- 31:02Speaker 3: doing tough shit. That's that's the ad. That's that's all
- 31:05Speaker 3: it is, whether or not they use exactly what we saw,
- 31:08Speaker 3: but that's a variation of what the Highlus ad is.
- 31:10Speaker 3: That's exactly what the Tasman ad is.
- 31:12Speaker 1: The AD's not that at all. Probably one of the
- 31:15Speaker 1: most genius ads ever.
- 31:16Speaker 3: That's just a bunch of sa pretending around trading.
- 31:21Speaker 1: There's heaps of sports women in that.
- 31:23Speaker 3: There's two, there's two or three, but so that. But
- 31:25Speaker 3: that's still the idea. Let me let me finish, right, okay,
- 31:28Speaker 3: let me no, no, no, no, no, let me finish, because
- 31:30Speaker 3: then you have I think the highlight I watched a
- 31:33Speaker 3: Highlights ad which was the same thing. Why don't we
- 31:35Speaker 3: when we're doing this, like the trade's driving it might
- 31:38Speaker 3: not just have a cutaway of all, like have a
- 31:40Speaker 3: couple fighting over who gets to use the keys, and
- 31:43Speaker 3: like he wants to go take it for off roading
- 31:44Speaker 3: and she wants to go take a back road to
- 31:46Speaker 3: pick up you know something, you know, like have like
- 31:49Speaker 3: this this struggle between two people wanting to drive this car.
- 31:52Speaker 3: I just reckon that. Again, in advertising, if everyone is zigging,
- 31:56Speaker 3: it pays to be zagging. There's a secondary market that
- 31:59Speaker 3: we know exist because they wouldn't be popular. Just just
- 32:02Speaker 3: acknowledge it in any of your advertising material. Just acknowledge it.
- 32:05Speaker 3: And I reckon that would go well. I reckon they'd
- 32:07Speaker 3: sell more cars. That's it. I don't know why you're
- 32:09Speaker 3: so offended by that.
- 32:10Speaker 1: I'm not offended by it. I just don't agree with that.
- 32:12Speaker 3: You just do not think that at all, acknowledging the
- 32:15Speaker 3: fact that fifty percent of the population may be interested
- 32:18Speaker 3: in driving this car.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Because if they if they were interested in driving that car,
- 32:23Speaker 1: they would be buying that car.
- 32:25Speaker 3: I reckon that they are also driving that car and
- 32:27Speaker 3: buying that car, and maybe they'd be more interested in
- 32:30Speaker 3: buying that car boarding if they had some ads telling
- 32:33Speaker 3: them that it would be a good thing to buy.
- 32:34Speaker 3: That's what advertising is. It changes opinion most people on Again,
- 32:38Speaker 3: I'm not working. I get no commission for you sold.
- 32:42Speaker 3: But I reckon that if you got rid of that,
- 32:45Speaker 3: like you know, the wife says, there's no way we're
- 32:47Speaker 3: buying that car because it's really you know, I don't
- 32:50Speaker 3: want to be seen in it. If you could fix that,
- 32:52Speaker 3: you could sell the more stuff. And I reckon that's
- 32:54Speaker 3: what they want to do.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Really, I think they do. We need to bring the
- 32:57Speaker 1: pink tampon car out.
- 33:00Speaker 3: And watch these ads. If you see any women driving them,
- 33:03Speaker 3: it has been one and I.
- 33:05Speaker 1: Forget, forget the care. I think I've proved my point
- 33:07Speaker 1: about the Ki Tasman. All I'll say is, let's look
- 33:09Speaker 1: at okay, And actually I think you're right. We say
- 33:11Speaker 1: the shark, I look at the shark at it and
- 33:13Speaker 1: that's like mud and blah blah blah. But to be fair,
- 33:16Speaker 1: I can't remember seeing a guy in that car.
- 33:17Speaker 3: Yeah, ranger. Also I saw an out it was more
- 33:21Speaker 3: mard and stuff. And then they were a young couple
- 33:23Speaker 3: and they went camping, and I'm like, no, I don't
- 33:24Speaker 3: think I don't think that it's young couples. Though, I
- 33:27Speaker 3: think that young couples aren't buying stuff that's worth this nime.
- 33:29Speaker 1: So do you think the advertising, the people who are
- 33:31Speaker 1: getting paid lots and have fed all this information about
- 33:35Speaker 1: demographics and all this sort of stuff that the client
- 33:38Speaker 1: brief you think that they've got it totally wrong.
- 33:41Speaker 3: I don't think they have it totally wrong, but I
- 33:44Speaker 3: do think that they are again covertly marketing these people.
- 33:47Speaker 3: If you're making it more comfortable, and you're talking about
- 33:49Speaker 3: ride comfort, which was a lot of what the highlights was,
- 33:51Speaker 3: you've got the lower spec models that are tuned, you know,
- 33:54Speaker 3: for the car to be really good when it's got
- 33:55Speaker 3: a lot of weight in the back and then the
- 33:57Speaker 3: high spec models had much better tuning for softer road.
- 34:00Speaker 1: You so the big tough trader shouldn't have comfort.
- 34:02Speaker 3: Obviously they should and that's why people drive it. But
- 34:05Speaker 3: the cars are looking and the Tasman as well. They
- 34:09Speaker 3: this is stuff. They were telling us that the launchers
- 34:11Speaker 3: like it is more comfortable, and we know that people
- 34:13Speaker 3: are using for SUVs acknowledge the fact that families have it.
- 34:15Speaker 3: Why do none of these ads have any families in them.
- 34:17Speaker 3: I just think it's a strange blind spot. I'm surprised at.
- 34:21Speaker 1: You haven't take that. I haven't convinced me, but I'm
- 34:24Speaker 1: open to the argument. You know, when Ford got number
- 34:26Speaker 1: one with their with their cars, you know who the person.
- 34:30Speaker 1: There was one single person that was responsible for that
- 34:33Speaker 1: in their advertising, and it was a woman. And she
- 34:36Speaker 1: sold fuck loads of cars. They'd never done it before.
- 34:39Speaker 1: You can look her up that whole ad campaign. They
- 34:42Speaker 1: used her for years and she was a total monopoly.
- 34:45Speaker 1: She sold a ship ton of cars for them, including you,
- 34:49Speaker 1: including everything. I don't know her name, she's just an actress.
- 34:56Speaker 1: Why I don't trust it because it's proving you wrong.
- 35:00Speaker 3: Gonna it's gonna take your job.
- 35:03Speaker 1: I can have it. If DBJ wants to talk about
- 35:07Speaker 1: the new one from Justin Bieber. All right, here you go. Hey,
- 35:10Speaker 1: who was the lady who was That's great? Okay are
- 35:17Speaker 1: you there?
- 35:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm right here, No worries.
- 35:22Speaker 1: Okay, stop talking. Who was the lady who was doing
- 35:27Speaker 1: the advertising for the Ford commercials a couple of years ago?
- 35:32Speaker 2: Oh?
- 35:36Speaker 3: Sure, that would be Nira don Fair. She was the
- 35:39Speaker 3: actress who did those Ford commercials in Australia a couple
- 35:41Speaker 3: of years back.
- 35:43Speaker 1: Nira down Fair. Okay, have you got a photo of her?
- 35:48Speaker 1: Even sounds international, sounds like they're hitting all the demographics
- 35:56Speaker 1: that you were hoping for.
- 35:57Speaker 3: God, don't care about demographics.
- 36:01Speaker 1: You're really getting the diversity higher on and you're still
- 36:03Speaker 1: not pleased that chick.
- 36:07Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, I kind of remember. Yeah, but that's
- 36:11Speaker 3: I think that that only goes to my point.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Doesn't it. It proves your point wrong.
- 36:15Speaker 3: No, it doesn't.
- 36:16Speaker 1: Car companies were doing exactly that.
- 36:18Speaker 3: And it succeeded, and then they never did it again. No,
- 36:20Speaker 3: I think that. I just look at look at some
- 36:23Speaker 3: you ads again. I don't I know this is very threatening.
- 36:26Speaker 3: I don't think it should be. I don't think it
- 36:28Speaker 3: should be threatening.
- 36:29Speaker 1: I just think I just think that.
- 36:30Speaker 3: I think it wouldn't be that crazy if, considering that
- 36:32Speaker 3: women are fifty percent of the population and they do
- 36:34Speaker 3: often make the decisions about car purchases, that you just
- 36:36Speaker 3: have one picture of them driving that you once, just one,
- 36:39Speaker 3: Just try it out, Just try it out. I know
- 36:40Speaker 3: it's crazy, just but like you know, we have licenses now,
- 36:43Speaker 3: just one picture of them driving. You know, we're more
- 36:45Speaker 3: than fifty percent of the population. I kind of feel
- 36:47Speaker 3: like it's almost weird that we don't, you know, just one,
- 36:50Speaker 3: one picture of them holding a steering wheel.
- 36:52Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, just one, just one, just one.
- 36:56Speaker 3: Just one and then and then I'll be quiet and
- 36:57Speaker 3: maybe it all work. Maybe maybe you're wrong. Maybe women
- 36:59Speaker 3: don't ever ever buy cars and have no opinions when
- 37:04Speaker 3: families are making seventy five thousand dollars purchases. Maybe that's
- 37:07Speaker 3: entirely a masculine thing. I think that we should acknowledge
- 37:10Speaker 3: that women exist in these ones. But you know that
- 37:12Speaker 3: is my crazy lady brain talking.
- 37:16Speaker 1: That's a nut for Australian car mechanics and they've got
- 37:19Speaker 1: a woman doing the advertising.
- 37:20Speaker 3: Fan Okay, are you just googling women driving car.
- 37:25Speaker 1: No, don't be silly, tell just this.
- 37:30Speaker 3: It's just something i've noticed, just something i've noticed.
- 37:34Speaker 1: You know.
- 37:34Speaker 3: You let one by the way, I'm not one woman
- 37:37Speaker 3: on the show, and she starts saying, come on, come on.
- 37:40Speaker 1: We've had trevorlong on several times. I wanted to talk
- 37:45Speaker 1: about top three cars, right, Yeah. For I thought this
- 37:48Speaker 1: would be fun to do little lists and maybe people
- 37:50Speaker 1: can vote for the favorite if we threw down like
- 37:53Speaker 1: a top three and gave it a category. Okay, all right,
- 37:57Speaker 1: so if we did, like, say, the top three O
- 38:00Speaker 1: trip cars. I think we've talked Genesis GV eighty. That's
- 38:04Speaker 1: got to be on there.
- 38:05Speaker 3: That has to be. I took that on a road trip. Yep.
- 38:07Speaker 1: Same.
- 38:07Speaker 3: The funniest thing about that car, right, I actually had
- 38:10Speaker 3: friends in the in the back seat, and the friends
- 38:13Speaker 3: sometimes sometimes if you've got a nice car. The women,
- 38:17Speaker 3: they were all men, and they were all my little
- 38:19Speaker 3: passenger princesses. I was like, you can get in my car,
- 38:22Speaker 3: but you have to wear a dress, and I'm.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Gonna masculate proude kind of. Yeah.
- 38:29Speaker 3: They all sat in the back. They weren't risking the
- 38:31Speaker 3: front seat. These wondering hands.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Yeah I heard her vagina has teas. It does, Yeah,
- 38:38Speaker 1: it does.
- 38:39Speaker 3: Can you believe I'm single?
- 38:41Speaker 1: It's I've got no idea. I mean, you just need
- 38:43Speaker 1: a guy driving a ute. You'll be fine.
- 38:46Speaker 3: I'll be fucking driving. He'll be sitting in the back passenger, Princess.
- 38:49Speaker 1: Oh my god. Can you imagine if like you started
- 38:51Speaker 1: dating a guy, or you went out on a date
- 38:53Speaker 1: with a guy and he said, so, what car do
- 38:55Speaker 1: you drive? And he goes, I drive a ute.
- 38:57Speaker 3: I would be like, cool, would you?
- 39:00Speaker 1: Yes?
- 39:00Speaker 3: Why would I have no problem? Like I feel like
- 39:02Speaker 3: I'm being painted like a shrew. I just think if
- 39:06Speaker 3: you're selling an ad having a one picture of a
- 39:08Speaker 3: woman driving.
- 39:09Speaker 1: Isn't that radical?
- 39:14Speaker 3: I knew I stepped into an AIRFM radio station. This
- 39:16Speaker 3: is a this is a dead of snakes.
- 39:20Speaker 1: I like to call it a room full of assassin's babe.
- 39:22Speaker 4: And yeah, so yeah, when I when I had my passenger, Princess,
- 39:28Speaker 4: guys in back, you have these screens right and in
- 39:31Speaker 4: the back seat and you can start a.
- 39:33Speaker 3: Mode where they or a mood or something like that.
- 39:36Speaker 3: And there was like, oh, we will enact relaxation mode.
- 39:41Speaker 3: And from the back seat, your press this button. The
- 39:43Speaker 3: lights in the car change around the trim to sort
- 39:46Speaker 3: of match the mood. You get relaxing music playing through
- 39:49Speaker 3: the speakers, which is I don't know. I find that
- 39:51Speaker 3: very funny. And get a scent, and there's a scent
- 39:55Speaker 3: It wasn't loaded into this car. I couldn't find. But
- 39:57Speaker 3: they're quite expensive, I think, to refill you. It gets
- 40:00Speaker 3: a massage too.
- 40:02Speaker 1: It actually smells like noodles from South Korea.
- 40:07Speaker 3: I'd actually really love that.
- 40:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:10Speaker 3: Can you imagine, though I don't have kids, if you were,
- 40:13Speaker 3: what can I do? Not like this representation of me?
- 40:17Speaker 3: I was an annoying kid. If I had that option
- 40:21Speaker 3: to piss off my family, I would be just like
- 40:24Speaker 3: hammering the moods all the time just to annoy them.
- 40:26Speaker 3: I don't know if I want my backseat passengers being
- 40:28Speaker 3: able to curate the mood of the car at their
- 40:31Speaker 3: discretion and not me.
- 40:32Speaker 1: Can you imagine Paul in that car. He'd just be like, Yeah,
- 40:34Speaker 1: it's got a bloody let's check on this, let's check
- 40:37Speaker 1: on the sin. It's pie causing intigestion scent. But I'm
- 40:46Speaker 1: setting in the mood now. I should give him more
- 40:52Speaker 1: Croatian less Trevor Long, I mean lolly.
- 40:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I know you chose the chewiest lolly.
- 40:59Speaker 1: This is your worrying me.
- 41:00Speaker 3: So I was not talking about gender stuff that I
- 41:03Speaker 3: was talking about the genesis. I thought you liked that.
- 41:05Speaker 1: Okay, that's better. Okay, so let's check a genesis on
- 41:08Speaker 1: the there. Just because I want to piss you off,
- 41:10Speaker 1: I'm going to put affordable Ranger wild track.
- 41:13Speaker 3: No, I have no ideological issue with yous beby cakes.
- 41:18Speaker 1: Okay, sure, push a cat. So I actually have one
- 41:30Speaker 1: for a while, and I'm taking one over summer, and
- 41:32Speaker 1: I just think they're the best.
- 41:34Speaker 3: Are you going to let your wife drive it?
- 41:36Speaker 1: My new crush, don't be stupid. He's so cute, Lady brains,
- 41:44Speaker 1: And you wanted to put in a controversial.
- 41:46Speaker 3: One, yeah, well, look.
- 41:48Speaker 1: I think it's a good idea.
- 41:49Speaker 3: This is a controversial one. I'm actually not a fan
- 41:52Speaker 3: of the Tesla's usually I find them they have their aggrievances.
- 41:57Speaker 3: But if you're doing a road trip and you've got kids,
- 42:00Speaker 3: there are things about that car that's fun.
- 42:02Speaker 1: Any sort of the ridiculous screen in the back, that's
- 42:04Speaker 1: a waste. Do you think it's a worse Yes, I
- 42:07Speaker 1: do think it's because kids are gonna have their own
- 42:09Speaker 1: bloody screen. They're not gonna look down on this tiny
- 42:11Speaker 1: little screen in the middle. Yeah, I'm telling you as
- 42:15Speaker 1: a parent, they're not gonna look down on that thing. Well, yeah, silly,
- 42:18Speaker 1: it's just a gimmick. It really is a gimmick. It's cool,
- 42:21Speaker 1: don't get me wrong, it's kind of cool. But kids
- 42:23Speaker 1: are gonna have like the fucking iPads that are attached
- 42:26Speaker 1: to the back of the seat, and that's that.
- 42:28Speaker 3: Yeah, and you aren't. They won't care about it.
- 42:31Speaker 1: I care They'll probably kick the fucking thing. Nathan. Stop
- 42:34Speaker 1: kicking the fucking testless screen? How many Nathan?
- 42:38Speaker 3: Your fuck?
- 42:39Speaker 1: I told you you do it one more time? Next
- 42:42Speaker 1: time we get to the fucking survey, Nathan, I'll belt. Yeah. Yeah,
- 42:46Speaker 1: that's good.
- 42:47Speaker 3: Is that was that you growing up?
- 42:49Speaker 1: Yeah? Rum would ahould dart my face?
- 42:54Speaker 3: Bring back cigarette?
- 42:55Speaker 1: Yeah? Bloody? How good is smokes?
- 42:58Speaker 3: And like that? When you would ash out in the
- 43:01Speaker 3: carpet Yeah no, no, no, when you had the actual
- 43:03Speaker 3: ash trays in cars.
- 43:05Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I love how you've thought about that. What
- 43:07Speaker 1: are you talking about? My bloody holding commodore was an
- 43:10Speaker 1: ash tray and they built a car around that started
- 43:14Speaker 1: off as a fucking ash tray. How can we make
- 43:17Speaker 1: this ash tray better? Yeah? Drive around this ash tray
- 43:22Speaker 1: can can get you from fucking Terrelgan to bloody Frankston.
- 43:28Speaker 3: I was driving the model why the most recent one.
- 43:31Speaker 1: I have you a uber driver on the site.
- 43:34Speaker 3: Oh god, no, could you could you imagine? I'm actually yeah,
- 43:39Speaker 3: I would not.
- 43:40Speaker 1: I'd report you. She tried to get bloody touchy.
- 43:46Speaker 3: That actually gets me six stars, you know, like my
- 43:50Speaker 3: rating system is actually pretty good. Some people prefer that.
- 43:52Speaker 3: But I was in the y and there were things
- 43:55Speaker 3: about that car that was really good and really clever.
- 43:57Speaker 3: Stuff that shat me, like the fact that you you
- 44:00Speaker 3: want to put the car in reverse and it's through
- 44:02Speaker 3: the screen.
- 44:03Speaker 1: Yeah what?
- 44:05Speaker 3: That was so infuriating. That was crazy making I like,
- 44:08Speaker 3: how could you not? And it didn't matter how many
- 44:10Speaker 3: times I did it. It was really annoying a bit
- 44:12Speaker 3: a bit.
- 44:12Speaker 1: It's one of those things. It's not intuitive, ever intuitive.
- 44:16Speaker 3: But yeah, you would never get used to it.
- 44:17Speaker 1: Well, people clearly do.
- 44:19Speaker 3: Well, I guess I think you put up with that
- 44:20Speaker 3: for other benefits of car. But okay, but the reason
- 44:23Speaker 3: I put in an electric car, any electric car on
- 44:25Speaker 3: this list is that if you're driving an electric car
- 44:27Speaker 3: on a road trip, you know, having to fill up
- 44:30Speaker 3: and get the car up to charge actually can sort
- 44:33Speaker 3: of make it more fun. You've got to have. It
- 44:35Speaker 3: just means that you plan out your trip a bit differently.
- 44:37Speaker 3: You sort of know where you're stopping and where you're going.
- 44:39Speaker 1: Well, Tesla's really good with that sort of stuff, Okay
- 44:41Speaker 1: with that, it's probably the best of out of all
- 44:43Speaker 1: of them.
- 44:43Speaker 3: Yeah, and I'm someone who if I'm driving, I usually
- 44:47Speaker 3: just will jet off and I'll do as many hours
- 44:50Speaker 3: as I can just to get there. But if you
- 44:51Speaker 3: have a car, it forces you to go and interact
- 44:53Speaker 3: with local towns again, which I actually think is really good.
- 44:56Speaker 3: Like you're forced there for forty minutes, you'll go get
- 44:58Speaker 3: a coffee, you'll have a walk around at the souvenir stores.
- 45:00Speaker 3: It sort of reinvigorates a road trip thing. Rather than
- 45:03Speaker 3: just getting to your destination, It forces you to get
- 45:06Speaker 3: out and look around.
- 45:07Speaker 1: So alright, the toplights on there. Top three road trip cars,
- 45:10Speaker 1: well not top three, but yeah, let's call it top
- 45:12Speaker 1: three that we liked. Top three Top three road trip cars.
- 45:15Speaker 1: Ford Ranger, Wild track, Tesla Model three Genesis GV eighty.
- 45:20Speaker 1: Let us know what you think. I guess you can
- 45:22Speaker 1: comment below or if this is a little snap real
- 45:24Speaker 1: I don't know, or contact drivershow dot com, dot au
- 45:28Speaker 1: or chuck as a DM. What about summer fun cars?
- 45:32Speaker 1: All right? I put on the Mini Cooper s Cabrolet.
- 45:34Speaker 1: Of course you put on obnoxious what your pick? I
- 45:40Speaker 1: liked it.
- 45:41Speaker 3: I was in this car for like five minutes and
- 45:44Speaker 3: you had to practically drag me out. It's the nine
- 45:47Speaker 3: to eleven GTS hybrid. It was a startlingly fun, amazing
- 45:53Speaker 3: car to performance hybrid. So the hybrid engine is just
- 45:56Speaker 3: going towards getting rid of any sort of tobo lag.
- 45:58Speaker 3: I've never driven a Porter before. I never loved the lads.
- 46:01Speaker 1: You should compare it to other ones. You should jump
- 46:03Speaker 1: in something else.
- 46:05Speaker 3: I can't afford the excess if I crashed you you'll.
- 46:07Speaker 1: Find, honestly, go like hopefully Porsche will listen to this
- 46:11Speaker 1: now and go because I'm the fanboy, but you should
- 46:15Speaker 1: compare like that hybrid to just even a base nine
- 46:18Speaker 1: to eleven.
- 46:19Speaker 3: Oh look, I'm that car. Though, was because I watch
- 46:23Speaker 3: a lot of racing, car racing, and I watch a
- 46:25Speaker 3: lot of you know, touring car racing, and they've never
- 46:28Speaker 3: been the most beautiful cars to me, but everyone I
- 46:30Speaker 3: was always like, I don't really get it. And then
- 46:32Speaker 3: someone said to me, you'll get it when you drive it,
- 46:33Speaker 3: and I'm like, you get me drive and then and
- 46:35Speaker 3: then I drove it, and I'm like, oh, I get it.
- 46:38Speaker 3: And It's why these cars win the baths twelve hour
- 46:41Speaker 3: and that's why they're so competitive. Is the handling of
- 46:44Speaker 3: that car. It was just glued to the road. I
- 46:47Speaker 3: had utter faith in where it was going to be
- 46:50Speaker 3: and how it was going to sit. It was unbelievable.
- 46:52Speaker 3: If I had that car for summer, you would never
- 46:54Speaker 3: get me out of it.
- 46:55Speaker 1: The German they tell you how to drive.
- 46:56Speaker 3: That car, and I'm like, thank you.
- 46:58Speaker 1: So yes. I had a bit of a debate in
- 47:01Speaker 1: my head whether we should put on the Mazda MX
- 47:04Speaker 1: Favor or the Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, and I reckon we
- 47:08Speaker 1: should check on the Gladiator because that car is just
- 47:12Speaker 1: it's like a shopping trolley. When you get pushed by
- 47:14Speaker 1: your mates and you're in a shopping trolley, You've got
- 47:16Speaker 1: no fucking clue where you're going. You're going around a corner.
- 47:19Speaker 1: You're like, oh my god, I'm but you're hoping for
- 47:21Speaker 1: the best and you're having a great time getting there,
- 47:24Speaker 1: do you know what I mean? And that's this car.
- 47:26Speaker 1: It's big. You can take the bloody roof off, you
- 47:28Speaker 1: have the fucking doors off. It's got this cool thing
- 47:31Speaker 1: where it's like an easter egg but in the back
- 47:33Speaker 1: seats you can pull up the back seats and it's
- 47:35Speaker 1: got like a pull out Bluetooth speaker. So if you're
- 47:39Speaker 1: on the beach or something like that, yeah, you can
- 47:41Speaker 1: like just have like have a bit of fun.
- 47:42Speaker 3: Actually, that is an actual summer cart Like yeah, like
- 47:46Speaker 3: that's like an American teen movie. You're in a beach town.
- 47:49Speaker 1: Come on, Jeesson, let's go to the beach. Kirsty's gonna
- 47:52Speaker 1: be there exactly that.
- 47:54Speaker 3: And there's like a surfing competition but like you know,
- 47:57Speaker 3: you've only just started to learn how to surf.
- 47:58Speaker 2: Man.
- 47:58Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, think this is just a And you're sitting
- 48:00Speaker 1: around a bonfire and some guy with long hairs like
- 48:02Speaker 1: that would be a waste of time, and you're like,
- 48:05Speaker 1: is that Anthony Keaters Chili Peppers, what's going on? Yeah?
- 48:09Speaker 1: So Mini Cooper es Cabrolet Portion nine eleven GT three
- 48:12Speaker 1: Hybrid and the Jeep Gladiator Rubicon are our top three
- 48:16Speaker 1: summer cars. Let us know what you think, all right,
- 48:19Speaker 1: Top three hidden gems. Of course, your little hidden number.
- 48:24Speaker 3: One you'll know Excel nineteen ninety one Sprint Edition five
- 48:27Speaker 3: Speed Manual. But it has to have less than fifty
- 48:30Speaker 3: thousand kilometers. It has to be my car specifically.
- 48:33Speaker 1: You said that like you're busting from a perp nose.
- 48:36Speaker 3: Lets love that car so much.
- 48:37Speaker 1: How are you going with the Vanuel by the way.
- 48:39Speaker 3: Oh, has it been a bit of a learning poor
- 48:43Speaker 3: cars clutch? Okay, yeah, because it's unforgiving. It's an unforgiving car.
- 48:47Speaker 3: It's not holding your hand at any point. And I
- 48:49Speaker 3: have not had to drive a lot of manuals in
- 48:50Speaker 3: my life.
- 48:51Speaker 1: That's the truth of It's.
- 48:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm getting there. It's fine.
- 48:54Speaker 1: Okay. So we're putting on steps Yon Day Excel nineteen
- 48:58Speaker 1: ninety one, which edition we're going to put on a
- 49:02Speaker 1: Toyota century as a hidden gem because it's always such
- 49:06Speaker 1: a delight when I see that cargo and it's such
- 49:09Speaker 1: a brilliant, just smooth, old school Japanese stoic car.
- 49:17Speaker 3: Where did you even get a chance to drive one?
- 49:19Speaker 1: I know a few people, and by the way, nearly
- 49:20Speaker 1: that I came close to actually buying one. A dude
- 49:24Speaker 1: was something. It really cheap and I don't know what
- 49:27Speaker 1: happened with that. Actually, Like the weird thing is I
- 49:31Speaker 1: went round there test rove it twice. Wow. I agreed
- 49:34Speaker 1: to buy it without a pre purchase. And because the
- 49:37Speaker 1: pre purchase, especially because that's a V twelve, it was
- 49:39Speaker 1: just to drive time and I was like, yeah, cool,
- 49:43Speaker 1: I'll pick it up Saturday. Yeah yeah cool. And he
- 49:47Speaker 1: just scrubbed everything. He just disappeared. What Yeah, that's weird,
- 49:51Speaker 1: Like did the ad went on? He took the ad
- 49:53Speaker 1: off Facebook called him, never picked up. Just yeah, yeah,
- 49:56Speaker 1: it was really weird.
- 49:57Speaker 3: It sounds like a ghost car.
- 49:59Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe it was a goes. Maybe wouldn't be funny
- 50:02Speaker 1: if like I go to the guy's house, like, hey
- 50:04Speaker 1: is John here? It's like John John died twelve years ago.
- 50:09Speaker 1: Who the fuck are you? I was supposed to buy
- 50:12Speaker 1: his Toyota Century. Oh you bashed and he died in
- 50:16Speaker 1: that Toyota Century. No.
- 50:18Speaker 3: No, that's what I like to think happened, rather than
- 50:20Speaker 3: it was a stolen car or something and you just
- 50:22Speaker 3: have to scrub, which imagine would.
- 50:24Speaker 1: And then I look over at a brick wall and
- 50:25Speaker 1: a big burst of flames and a Toyota century comes out,
- 50:29Speaker 1: like how to be sick? Like it's like back to
- 50:31Speaker 1: the future to be sick? That would be cool.
- 50:33Speaker 3: I hope that happens to you.
- 50:34Speaker 1: Would they do? Do you reckon? They could do it
- 50:36Speaker 1: like a back to the future again, because I know
- 50:39Speaker 1: Martin Clyde's future is not looking to oh my god,
- 50:42Speaker 1: I'm just suck.
- 50:44Speaker 3: But like I reckon the mood down.
- 50:46Speaker 1: But I reckon they could. I don't think the mood
- 50:48Speaker 1: was ever up, but I think I just think, like,
- 50:52Speaker 1: do it while Doc Brown still looks good? Like you
- 50:55Speaker 1: could write, Martin mccly I.
- 50:57Speaker 3: Reckon, I reckon, We've I reckon. We just leave that one.
- 51:01Speaker 3: What old eighties classic has been improved by a reboot
- 51:05Speaker 3: in the last ten years?
- 51:07Speaker 1: Name? I was gonna say Terminator terminated, like ten years
- 51:10Speaker 1: the last Yeah, well the very last Terminator that where
- 51:13Speaker 1: Sarah Knna comes back. That was a good movie.
- 51:16Speaker 3: Was that that wasn't ten years ago, it.
- 51:17Speaker 1: Was less than ten years ago, not the second one.
- 51:19Speaker 1: I didn't even know they put out another one. There's
- 51:21Speaker 1: like a terminated five and it's really good movies on
- 51:26Speaker 1: didn't they haven't they done something recently?
- 51:28Speaker 3: There's heaps, Yeah, but they're all the reboots are just
- 51:31Speaker 3: I think Top Gun is sad.
- 51:33Speaker 1: Top Oh.
- 51:33Speaker 3: No, top Gun was good. That was that was sick.
- 51:36Speaker 1: That's good.
- 51:37Speaker 3: But it's just the same movie again, if you know
- 51:39Speaker 3: what I mean, right, Like it's.
- 51:40Speaker 1: Just the same storyline.
- 51:42Speaker 3: But it's like it's exactly it's beat for beat the
- 51:44Speaker 3: same year, but.
- 51:44Speaker 1: Like they just do it so well, well, what did
- 51:46Speaker 1: you say again? If it's broken, wife something. If it's broken,
- 51:50Speaker 1: don't come down to Tony Robbins.
- 51:52Speaker 3: If it's broken, don't fix it.
- 51:54Speaker 1: Yeah, get in my fuckings love, you're not driving nice
- 52:00Speaker 1: and stopped gigging the fucking ters for scribes. Okay, so
- 52:04Speaker 1: what do we have? So we're talking.
- 52:06Speaker 3: We've been recording for a thousand hours.
- 52:08Speaker 1: This is our best take. We've got century, We've.
- 52:14Speaker 3: Got you and I Excel one two three.
- 52:17Speaker 1: You're Young Eggxcel nineteen ninety one, Bloody Sprinter Edition, and
- 52:22Speaker 1: I'm chucking in as a bit of fun fight and
- 52:24Speaker 1: I'm going to chuck in as Zuzuki Jimney because they
- 52:26Speaker 1: are fun, and they're fun in the sense that you
- 52:29Speaker 1: can take them on the beach, you can take them
- 52:31Speaker 1: off road, you can take them down the shops. That
- 52:33Speaker 1: is a little suv for the lady.
- 52:36Speaker 3: It's a lady card.
- 52:39Speaker 1: Look at.
- 52:41Speaker 3: If you crush it, your body is the crumpleson. Yeah,
- 52:44Speaker 3: like your meat meaty body takes the impact of the crush.
- 52:47Speaker 1: Yeah. But other than that, Yeah, your boobs are good
- 52:50Speaker 1: for shouting.
- 52:52Speaker 3: Sorry, wait, I'm sorry it do we want to go
- 52:56Speaker 3: back onto the gender stuff because I can do it?
- 52:58Speaker 3: Go on, No, I can't be bothered. I've run out
- 53:00Speaker 3: of Jean.
- 53:01Speaker 1: Did you want me down? The Jimney is a great car.
- 53:03Speaker 1: The Jymney is really cool. It's fun, but it doesn't
- 53:06Speaker 1: feel safe.
- 53:07Speaker 3: It's like that's partially why it's fun.
- 53:09Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's got like a I can't go
- 53:11Speaker 1: over one hundred and ten kilometers an hour and you
- 53:13Speaker 1: are technically driving a tin can. Yeah, but geez, you're
- 53:17Speaker 1: having fun while doing it.
- 53:18Speaker 3: Same thing, same thing, my excel. It's like, if there
- 53:20Speaker 3: is a crash in this, I'm not coming out. Okay,
- 53:23Speaker 3: I am not.
- 53:24Speaker 1: Out backs in that.
- 53:25Speaker 3: No, And it's like driving and like the car is rattling,
- 53:30Speaker 3: like everything feels because it was a cheap car in
- 53:32Speaker 3: the nineties, and like a cheap car in the nineties,
- 53:34Speaker 3: who gives a shit about safety? Like it drove cheap
- 53:37Speaker 3: it's fine.
- 53:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 53:38Speaker 3: Yeah, So like the shops, you know, if you crash
- 53:39Speaker 3: into that, the steering column is just going to like
- 53:41Speaker 3: pin you like a bug to the chair. I think
- 53:44Speaker 3: you know you're flailing around.
- 53:46Speaker 1: Top three Hidden gym cars. What's your favorite out of
- 53:48Speaker 1: the Jymney, the Toyota Century or the young Day Excel
- 53:51Speaker 1: in nineteen ninety one sprint Thank you enough opinions on
- 53:56Speaker 1: this shell already cry cry.
- 54:00Speaker 3: If you don't say to Excel, I love that car,
- 54:01Speaker 3: you have to love it too.
- 54:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I actually think that's a good choice. Yeah, it's
- 54:05Speaker 1: a good top three.
- 54:06Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a weird top three.
- 54:08Speaker 1: I was going to say, actually because when we wasn't
- 54:10Speaker 1: totally shit counting Bentley's but like nineteen eighty eight Bentley
- 54:14Speaker 1: like the turbos, like the turbo ones, they've kind of
- 54:18Speaker 1: got the red around the headlights. They look really that's
- 54:23Speaker 1: how people know it's a turbo. What you yeah about
- 54:26Speaker 1: nineteen eighty eight year I.
- 54:28Speaker 3: Was born nineteen eighty eight. Well, yeah, I know I
- 54:31Speaker 3: should have lied about that. I should probably lie about
- 54:34Speaker 3: I'm kind of at the age. Wach Oh, that looks sick.
- 54:37Speaker 1: Doesn't look good?
- 54:39Speaker 3: That looks sick. Oh man. And I mean like the
- 54:42Speaker 3: interiors on the Bentley's are just cool.
- 54:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 54:45Speaker 3: Like I'm looking at one with like red leather interior
- 54:47Speaker 3: and there's like a there's like a tray table for drinks,
- 54:52Speaker 3: very funny. So it's like it's like an aeroplane.
- 54:55Speaker 1: Yeah, look at that.
- 54:56Speaker 3: So you can drink. And that's like a Scotch glass
- 54:58Speaker 3: that someone's put up there so you can sit in
- 55:00Speaker 3: the back of the Bentley drinking.
- 55:01Speaker 1: Smell your velveline, you know what I mean. It doesn't
- 55:05Speaker 1: go on with a greasy smell or a mess, and
- 55:10Speaker 1: makes a good lubricant when I'm in a prelude with
- 55:13Speaker 1: the wanking stick or whatever.
- 55:19Speaker 3: Yes, you and I don't have them anymore.
- 55:21Speaker 1: All right, Welcome to the program. My name is Gordon,
- 55:25Speaker 1: and you know he's Stephanie Coombs with an opinion. Okay,
- 55:30Speaker 1: that's enough, babycakes, Thanks for your time.
- 55:33Speaker 3: It's been a pleasure. Thank you so much.
- 55:34Speaker 1: I do bring you a Christmas present. Do you want to? Yeah, sure, yeah,
- 55:39Speaker 1: of course. Here it is. I've got you a Christmas present.
- 55:41Speaker 1: There is something you will not have. It's for the
- 55:44Speaker 1: girl who has everything.
- 55:45Speaker 3: It's a fresh head steririzer.
- 55:48Speaker 1: Yeah, thank you?
- 55:49Speaker 3: All right, that's so nice. It's and it's a us B.
- 55:53Speaker 3: You kind of been plugging it the well. You have
- 55:54Speaker 3: to plug it into your computer.
- 55:56Speaker 1: You can sterilize. It's the same USB. What what do you
- 55:58Speaker 1: do for your vibrator?
- 56:00Speaker 3: That's loving. What I really like about this is that
- 56:03Speaker 3: it assumes I use a toothbrush, which is really nice.
- 56:06Speaker 1: You don't. What do you use your finger?
- 56:07Speaker 3: I just don't brush my teeth.
- 56:08Speaker 1: Oh that fucking explains a few things I do I do?
- 56:13Speaker 3: Where on earth do you even get that?
- 56:14Speaker 1: Well? I know some people, and I made some calls.
- 56:17Speaker 1: I said, Hey, I got Steph Coombs on the show.
- 56:19Speaker 1: News dot com News called she's a big deal. It's
- 56:23Speaker 1: a deal in the rag. See ninety nine.
- 56:25Speaker 3: Point nine percent of bacteria. I'm worried about that point
- 56:29Speaker 3: one percent. It doesn't kill. That's that's that's got to be.
- 56:32Speaker 1: She'd probably put that in your underpants. What sorry, what
- 56:37Speaker 1: does it even mean? I don't know Paul would have
- 56:40Speaker 1: laughed at that.
- 56:40Speaker 3: I'm sure he would have. I'm sure he would.
- 56:42Speaker 1: Have anyway, Merry Christmas.
- 56:45Speaker 3: Thank you very much. Christ That's sweet and also revolting,
- 56:48Speaker 3: but sweet.
- 56:49Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 56:50Speaker 3: It has been a pleasure.
- 56:52Speaker 1: Yeah, thank you, and thank you for coming in and
